Filipino And Colonial Mentality
US also selected promising Filipino leaders and sent them to prestigious American universities where
they learned American forms of ov government and culture, They would return to the philippines
securing positions within government and governed based off American model. It was as it seems,
what the Americans had intended to do. Knowingly or not, these Filipinos who were educated through
the American system may have supplemented the teachings of the Americans through the way they led
and communicated with the Filipinos back home, contributing to the notion that anything that was
western, or American, is far better than anything filipino, which in turn may have affected their
devaluing in the filipino culture. Colonial mentality can be described as an attitude that colonized
people feel themselves to be inferior to their colonizers based on the fact of colonization. There are
numerous other examples where Filipino/Filipino Americans can experience colonial mentality. We
can see this stemming from results of generational family socialization and the continued
americanization that continues to exist, further endorsing notion of american superiority over filipino
ethnicity and culture. An example of the generational family socialization can be seen throughout the
novel of American Son. Ika s two sons, Gabriel and Tomas are half filipino and half white as a result
of their father who served in the military and is no longer part of their life. Neither of these children

How Does Creon Fight In Antigone
I would not count any enemy of my country as a friend. In the play Antigone, written by Sophocles,
Antigone finds herself torn apart between divine law and state law. The play opens up at the end of a
war between Eteocles and Polyneices, sons of Oedipus and brothers of Antigone and Ismene. These
brothers, fighting for control of Thebes, kill each other, making Creon king of Thebes. Creon, as king,
gives an important speech to the citizens of Thebes, announcing that Eteocles, who defended Thebes,
will receive a proper burial, unlike his brother Polyneices, who brought a foreign army against Thebes.
This speech introduces the major conflict of divine law versus state law. Furthermore, Creon cherishes
order and loyalty above all else. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is evident, through this argument, that there is dramatic foil between Ismene and Antigone. Ismene
is a typical woman of the Greek s society, accepting male dominance. She believes that a man can do
as he pleases, and a woman must not get in the way of his wishes. Antigone, on the other hand, not
only speaks her mind, but acts on her beliefs as well. In the end, she makes up her own rules and
assumes full responsibility for her actions. Although Creon has stated that the traitor Polyneices must
not be given proper burial, Antigone is the only one who speaks against this decree and insists on the
sacredness of family. Whereas Antigone sees no validity in a law that disregards the duty family
members owe one another, Creon s point of view it the total opposite. Antigone calls attention to the
difference between the divine law and human law. She doubts Creon s authority. Creon represents the
power of human law and of the human need for an orderly, stable society. Between Antigone and
Creon there is no compromise. They both find absolute truth in the beliefs they stand up for. Antigone
admits right from the start that she wants to carry out the burial because it is a glorious action. Creon s
pride is that of a tyrant, failing to take advice. They both suffer from pride, which causes them to

On Korea Essay
On Korea
Throughout most of its history, Korea has existed as one country with a rich culture and history. Then
in the 1940 s, Korea was controlled by Japan.
World War II broke out, and the Allies defeated the Axis powers. The country of
Korea was divided into two parts the north and the south. The north was occupied by communist
Russian forces and the south by American troops. The dividing line was the 38th parallel(see map). In
1950, a civil war began between the two Koreas, further separating them. Both countries have since
established totally different ways of life that include government, economics, and lifestyles. As a
result of all that has transpired and recent incidents, it would appear to be highly improbable ... Show

institutions. Both education and religion are considered vital to the people. In government, the
controlling party is democratic. The leaders are elected by the people. The government guarantees
freedom of the press and religion with few limitations. South Korea s economy has been growing at an

How Does Gordie Create Tension In Stand By Me
Stand By Me (1986), directed by Rob Reiner is a movie portraying the adventure of four young boys,
on a journey of self discovery and maturing. The tension and suspence in the movie is enhanced
through different angles, sound effects and dialogue. The first time the audience see the bridge, in the
train bridge scene, it is a long shot of the boys and the tracks streched out infront of them. This angle
makes the boys seen small and weak. This idea is re inforced when the boys look anxious and their
voices shake slightly. Their nerves are shown again when Gordie feels the train trcks while looking
back at the ones they jjst passed. gordiea action is another way the director made this scene dramatic.

Pearl Jam Research Paper
Anyone familiarized with grunge music can agree that the genre skyrocketed in popularity in the 90 s,
due to bands such as Radiohead, Nirvana, and most importantly Pearl Jam. From the beginning of
Seattle s early grunge scene rose a band that would go on to make multi platinum albums, tour the
world, and use their platform to express their own beliefs. Pearl Jam, in spite of their fame, prefer to
use their art to reflect their values and use their platform to convey their activist beliefs. Starting in
Seattle s grunge scene, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament started work on a demo tape after their band,
Mother Love Bone, split after the tragic death of lead singer Andrew Wood. They recorded most of the
tape without vocals, in hopes for finding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Main ideas in grunge are tolerance of difference , feminism , doubt in authority , and bitterness
towards large corporations . The defiance of modern music practices earned Pearl Jam a rebellious
title. Their persistence to fight for what they believe in is often misinterpreted by the media and the
world, therefore creating the very problem that grunge artists are fighting against. Pearl Jam has taken
on many social controversies, such as abortion rights, George W. Bush, and encouraging the people to
vote. They stand firm in their protests, not buckling under the weight of criticism. The large part of
how they shrug off criticism would be due to their loyal fan base they have built over the years
because of their down to earth attitude and honesty. (Glik, Hans, Sheperd, Julianne Escobedo, Pearl

clear hierarchy, they will peck the one did not obey the rules, which is called cannibalism, causing
death. ODI s contact lens for chicken could efficiently reduce this behavior through reducing their
visuals.
As the only company in current industry, ODI faces a problem about future marketing, including
customer segmentation, locations of regional offices, pricing policy and the strategy of convincing
farmers to use the new product.
Based on the case, the target customer should be the farms having flock size over 50,000 and the
locations of regional offices should be in California, South Atlantic, Middle Atlantic and West South
Central. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the analysis above, the target consumers of ODI should be medium and large farms.
Marketing Analysis
Locations of Regional Offices
According to Exhibit 3, California and South Atlantic are the top two areas that have significant
difference in the number of farms having flock size over 50,000. Since these two locations contain
about 45% of farm with flock size between 50,000 and 99,000 and about 46% of farms with flock size
100,000 and over, regional offices should be set and more selling effort should be invested. The
specific numbers are as following: California South Atlantic Total Total Number of Farms Percentage
in Total
Flock size 50,000 99,000 114 168 282 631 45%
Flock size 100,000 and over 87 70 157 345 46%
(Source: Exhibit 3)
Since four to five regional offices should be set, the other locations should be Middle Atlantic and
West South Central. The specific numbers are as following: Middle Atlantic West South Central Total
Total Number of Farms Percentage in Total
Flock size 50,000 99,000 55 77 132 631 21%
Flock size 100,000 and over 29 42 71 345 21%
(Source: Exhibit 3)
Since less farms than California and South Atlantic exist in these two areas, selling efforts could be
invest less, either.

The Disadvantages Of Artifice
Emily Olenik December 1, 2017 Ms. Dolan AP Language The Disavowal of Artifice As a society we
are guided by false veneers and deceit. Artifice is unfortunately a prominent tactic used in hope of
gaining the respect of the public. Politicians and celebrities who we look up to utilize artifice on a
daily basis to gain our recognition and approval. Even teenagers are being taught how to use artifice to
their advantage. Chris Hedges believes that the use of artifice is a necessary device to achieve success.
In his book, The Empire of Illusion, he discusses the appeal of artifice and how individuals become
unreal and ignored if they do not utilize it. His viewpoint is immensely untrue because this strategy
causes a never ending cycle of conflict. If we continue to feign our true appearances, we will become
unable to fix societal issues we face to today. The celebrities in the media are typically portrayed as
people we should look up to and let guide us. They use artifice to make themselves come across and
trustworthy and generous, when in reality they are just the opposite. One serious problem has surfaced
this year regarding the sexual harassment of actresses in Hollywood. Producers, directors, and other
actors have been using artifice to keep their crimes a secret from the public. One of the most
noteworthy examples is the accusations made against film executive and producer, Harvey Weinstein.
Over eighty women have stepped forward to share their stories about his

Settlers In The New World Essay
A Reflection of Settlers in the New World In the event of pursuing freedom, exploration, and goals,
several people journeyed a crossed the shores, and oceans, to discover a land with plenty of
provisions. Meanwhile, natural supplies were bountiful, in a woody environment, with a generous
amount of land inhabited by both wildlife and humans. According to Perkins, from small coastal
footholds, the land stretched before the newcomers in majesty and mystery, while the inhabitants they
met told of wonders yet unseen of towering peaks and mighty rivers, of shifting sands and ancient
cities, in a continent of unimaginable size, more than half of it covered by forest of fabulous density

Linear Momentum
Abstract:
This experiment studies the conservation of linear momentum through a carefully calculated collision.
Two gliders were used on an air track with different weights to demonstrate what would happen as
gliders with varying masses collided into one another. Throughout the experiment the measured values
of the momentum before and after the collision were used to calculate the total momentum conserved.
Introduction:
The question of whether or not momentum is lost or conserved during a collision has been a topic of
interest for many years. When two objects of equal mass or varying masses collide what is the
outcome? The gliders are used to vary the weights and the air track is used to take away all variables
of friction that could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This velocity was multiplied by the mass of the glider to calculate both its momentum before and after
the collision. There were three different situations used in which the weights of the incident and target
gliders were either equal or different. When the two masses are equal, the velocity should be
exchanged from the incident glider to the target glider. Therefore, the incident glider takes on the
velocity of the target glider and the target glider takes on the velocity of the incident glider. When the
incident glider has a mass greater than the target glider, the target body takes up a velocity in the
opposite direction that is twice the incident glider.
After calculating the velocities and momentum of each collision, the percent uncertainty was
calculated by gently pushing a glider through two photo gates and recording the velocity of the glider
through each one. Using the following formula, we calculated the percent difference which is also the
percent uncertainty in our speed measurements: .
Using case 2, we calculated ratios of mass and velocity for each configuration. Using the following
formula, we compared the ratio of mass and ratio of velocity. We compared the ratios to see if
momentum was conserved by seeing if the ratios agree within three times the percent uncertainty in
the velocities.

Mission Statement On Community And Community Service In...
I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to address a concern of
mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a
whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service
important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach
to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community
outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our
church s presence in our community.
Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the
coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems
as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much
embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have
become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think
over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a
youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise
above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting
community outreach opportunities is so important.

People can even go into management in the radiology field or expand out into sales of radiology
equipment. This field is also always in the top three annual revenue services in every hospital so it is
not a field that will be disappearing anytime in the future. With scientific advancements always
changing, there are no limits to where radiology can go in the future and may even find new
diagnostic studies that can be performed to help more people in need. Although radiology is a great
career choice, it does come with its down side. Technologists in many portions of the radiologic
sciences are exposed to certain amounts of radiation which has a negative effect on the human body.
There are many safety precautions that technologists have to take like wearing lead shields anytime
they are in the exam room with patients, and they also must record their employee dose, or their
personal radiation intake, by wearing a dosimeter and having the readings checked monthly to insure
that they are not getting over radiated over a certain amount of time. Overall, this is a very good career

The Scientific Systems Of Engineering Management
Introduction
Engineering Management refers to a specialized type of management which is primarily concerned
with the application of certain engineering principles to business activities or practice. In other words,
Engineering Management can be said to be a career which unites the technological problem solving
aspect of engineering and the administrative, planning, and organizational capabilities of management
to facilitate the efficient operation of activities within a sophisticated establishment from the start to
the end.
Primarily, Engineering Management focuses on the planning, installation, improvement, and design of
integrated systems of material, people, information, energy, and equipment. This is achieved through
utilization of specialized skills and knowledge in the physical sciences, social sciences, and
mathematical disciples. This knowledge and expertise are integrated into methods and principles of
engineering analysis and design (Haverila and Fehr 574). Through this incorporation, they can
evaluate, specify, and predict results that are likely to be obtained. The scientific systems in
engineering management are majorly responsible for designing, implementing, and developing models
to be used as the basis for evaluation and analysis of results. Comparative analysis is achieved by
taking into consideration the relationship that exists between engineering aspects and the management
duties such as organizing, planning, controlling, and leading. Moreover, these

Matthew Murphy Nyquist English 5 30 April 2015 Reservations or Restrictions According to 2010 US
Census projections, 22% of our nation s 5.2 million Native Americans live on reservations or tribal

examination of the living conditions, education, and life altering effects that go along with living on
an Indian reservation, this statistic may appear slightly more alarming. The effects of growing up on a

there are issues that should be seen by the common person and with the knowledge of these issues, can

When in comes to first hand experiences with the New Word, John Smith and William Bradford have
a good idea of what it is like. Although both men are very different, they have some similarities. The
short story, The General History of Virginia, John Smith shares his and his crew s experiences with the
New World, just like the short story, Of Plymouth Plantation, by William Bradford does. While these
short stories both fall under the same category, coming to the new world, they are not exactly the same
nor are they much different from each other. John Smith came to the New World and landed in
Jamestown for one particular reason, for tobacco. Had we been as free from all sins as gluttony and

The Pilgrims were puritans who came to the New World for religious freedom because they were
being persecuted. Coming to the New World was tough to manage, but their faith in God helped them
get through it all step by step. For example, Bradford writes, ... they fell upon their knees and blessed
the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean... (Bradford 78). This just
shows how much faith the pilgrims had in their religion. They believed that if they kept their faith,
that possible everything would be okay. Another difference that they had was that John Smith s story
was in first person, and the Pilgrims story was in third person. John Smith used a handful of adjectives
to describe himself as strong and brave. As for the Pilgrims, Bradford did not give any implications
that he himself was a Pilgrim, which is why his story was in third person. Not only that, but he did not
use pronouns like, I, We, or Us. This is a minor difference, but it is significant because it shows

The Academic Calendar Of The Philippines Essay

The academic calendar in the Philippines should be reverted back to June
Definition of Academic calendar Oxford dictionary defines the term academic calendar as the
schedule of events occurring in an academic year. This includes term times, examination dates, school
activities and many others.
A Glimpse of the Current Situation, The Policy, and Objectives of this Paper The Philippines, which is
a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), is the only country that follows
the June March academic calendar, after Thailand shifted its academic calendar last 2011. In order for
the universities and schools to become global, they will change their calendars from June March to
August May (for some universities, other universities choose September June). This is not only to
respond to the competencies for the international market, but also to maximize the opportunities in the
ASEAN. This policy argues that the academic calendar in the Philippines should be reverted back to
June March calendar. Implementation of this policy will ensure the independence and will give way
towards good quality in the academic standards of the country in relation to the needs of the people.
The people affected in this policy are the administrators, professors, teachers, staff, students, parents,
and prospective foreign academic investors. The main objective of this paper is to explain why the

Tess Of The D Urbervilles Color Red Essay
Just as most pieces of literature, Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles uses different forms of
symbolism throughout the novel. A prominent symbol through the novel, red is used quite often.
Hardy uses it to foreshadow, warn, and hint at future events that are important to the theme and in the
progression of the novel. Other symbolic devices are used, but the color red s myriad of meanings has
proven it to be the best way to trace Tess s journey. The symbolism color red is first introduced in the
description of the girls whom ar attending the May Day Dance. The girls, including Tess, are wearing
various shades of white. Tess, however, is wearing one piece of red; a ribbon in her hair. The insertion
of the red ribbon in Tess s attire is, in a sense, a marker. It s a red flag, if you will, that indicates the
beginning of Tess s condemnation. Another example of the color being used to foreshadow Tess s
future pain, is in the following passage; The dialect was on her tongue to some extent, despite the

is able to hint at Alec s true role in Tess s life. Hardy describes that by putting on a sweet façade, Tess

Should the Federal Government continue funding Planned Parenthood? Planned Parenthood is an
organization that has been around since at least 1921. Recently, it has been in the limelight due to the

health services among the United States as well as internationally, since 1952. In recent news
developments, there have been rumors that Planned Parenthood practices inhumane procedures when
aborting an unborn baby to harvest their organs and that a law should be passed to stop this. The
supporters for Planned Parenthood claim that these claims are unfounded and believe that Planned
Parenthood is a wonderful association that helps women and men all around the world. This issue has

Virginia Woolf s The Death Of A Moth
Even though I tend to like the gory nature of a gruesome death, I don t favor Dillard s piece over
Woolf s. I ask myself why that is? Why do I prefer Virginia Woolf s The Death of the Moth to Annie
Dillard s The Death of a Moth? The answer I conclude, is that I have biographical knowledge of one
over the other. The personal background on Woolf allows me to better understand the writer and, thus,
the possible meaning of the piece. I will read and interpret what I believe a piece is about, but I like to
find out what the author s story is. With the author s story in mind, I will reread and see what she may
have meant based on their life story. I know Woolf s story and can empathize with her, in doing so,
better understand the deeper meaning of

Literacy, Opportunity, And Economic Change
This critique will be of chapter one of the book Literacy in American Lives. The author of this book is
Dr. Deborah Brandt, a professor of English at Wisconsin Madison University and her main focus in
Literacy in American Lives is to study about how people have learned to read, how they use their
ability to read, and how literacy learning changes with time. In this first chapter Literacy, Opportunity,
and Economic Change , Brandt focuses on how economic change can affect the value of literacy, and
the impact that this change in the value of literacy has in the lives of two farm women from
Wisconsin. For the main evidence of her work in chapter one Brandt goes into the personal stories of
two women by which she has given the names Martha Day and Barbara Hunt. Martha Day grew up on
a farm in a time near the 1920 s; she did well in high school but did not pursue a higher education
because, according to Day, they didn t push girls like they did men back then (Brandt). She married a
book keeper and became a small town journalist when her Sunday school teacher, who also happened
to be the editor of the local paper, asked her to manage a monthly news letter about the out pouring of
agricultural articles from the local university and stations. Eventually, Day started to write her own
articles and moved into the corporate world of journalism writing a bimonthly column on domestic
topics. She was able to work her whole life in this field and retire happily all with only a high

Evangelical Liberal And Neo-Orthodox Research Paper
The Place of Scripture in Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo Orthodox Thought
The nature and authority of Scripture is approached differently in reference to the three theological
movements in church history, known as Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo orthodox. Because of these
differences in thought, scripture takes on a different meaning for each movement. The nature and
authority of Scripture will be discussed with each of the three theological movements; Evangelical,
Liberal, and Neo orthodox.
The Issues
Evangelicals view the Holy Scriptures, both old testament and new testament, as the perfect word of
God. Evangelical thought does not make claim that man cannot err in the interpretation of Scripture,
but what it does is position man s Evangelical

Warning Signs of Relapse
WARNING SIGNS OF RELAPSE The clinical definition of relapse is when a person is affected again
by a condition that affected them in the past. By definition, for relapse to happen, the disease must
have been in remission or cured. In the case of addiction, the disease is incurable (chronic), however
the disease can be put into remission. Relapse is often thought of as an event, such as taking a drink or
using a drug: however relapse is actually an extended process that begins long before the use of a
chemical substance. There are significant and identifiable phases of relapse. Terrence Gorski and
Merlene Miller collaborated on the development of eleven phases of relapse. Phase 1: Internal Change

American Airpower s Dependence On Technology And Its...
American airpower s dependence on technology and its influence on future employment are best
described with the words of General H. H. Arnold shortly after the Second World War: The first
essential of air power necessary for peace and security is the preeminence in research . . . . We must
count on scientific advances requiring us to replace about one fifth of existing Air Forces equipment
each year and we must be sure that these additions are the most advanced in the whole world.
Furthermore, General N. F. Twining believed Air Force not to be bound to any fixed doctrine or
concept, but its doctrine grows out of scientific achievement. Therefore, influence of technology on
American airpower is evident since its beginnings and especially after the 1947 and the establishment
of the independent United States Air Force (USAF) service. Technology continued to have the impact
on American airpower after the 1947 through numerous technological achievements and inventions,
but some of the major ones had substantial influence in American aerial warfare. Jet engine
improvements and missile technology changed viewpoint on strategic bomber, and precision targeting
technology and Electronic Counter Measure (ECM) system enabled accurate weapon delivery.
Moreover, the invention of the stealth technology brought invisibility to the radar technology.
Technological improvements of the jet engine and innovations of the missile technology started to
change a viewpoint on airpower

Archetypes In The Lion King
Sydney Rickabaugh Ms. Crider English 10 Honors Period 1 17 October 2014
Wonder for all ages Great stories seem to take people of all ages on a roller coaster ride full of
emotion and wonder. An animated movie called The Lion King was produced by Disney and released
in 1994. The plot of the story is when a young lion prince is born and his evil uncle plots to kill him
and his father the king. After the king is murdered, the prince runs away from his kingdom leaving the
uncle in charge by default. The movie appeals to people of all ages because it shows that all cultures
seemed to enjoy the consistent use of well known archetypes. The Lion King shows similarities of all
ages by recognizing common, situational, and character archetypes. The ... Show more content on

These character archetypes include the mentor, the loyal companions, and the hero. In The Lion King
the mentor is depicted as Mufasa. Mufasa taught Simba basically everything he knows about the pride
lands. One morning, Mufasa takes Simba on a tour of their kingdom and he tells Simba that
everything the light touches is part of their land. Also, he tells him that the darkness of the land
separates the good from the evil. He also teaches Simba about the circle of life. Mufasa tells Simba
that even though they eat an animal, they themselves will eventually die and become grass the animals
will eat. This depicts the circle of life and that everyone and everything is part of the pattern. Then,
Mufasa teaches Simba the importance of putting other people before your self. Simba disobeyed his
father and went to the darkness, or elephant graveyard, with his best friend Nala. Simba did not know
there would be hyenas there and ended up putting himself and Nala in danger. Mufasa sprang into
action and rescued the two trembling cubs. He then explained to Simba that being brave does not
mean that you should go looking for trouble. People seem to enjoy seeing a good father figure in a
movie. The Lion King also has very comical loyal companions. These characters are supposed to help
and protect the hero. Timon and Pumbaa are the loyal companions in the film and are a good comical
relief for people. After Simba runs away

Key Advantages Of The Keyence Vhx 6000
Key Advantages of the Keyence VHX 6000: Advanced Focusing Accurate Dimensional
Measurements Contamination Analysis in line with ISO 16232 Standards 3D Display and
Measurement The Keyence VHX 6000 microscope has been found to have many of the key aspects
needed to analyse and quantify sub surface defects on samples taken from the GKN traveller
specimen. It has many advanced capabilities that lead it to producing sample images of exceptional
quality. A key requirement in this task was to be able to take images of the complete entire surface of a
sample as one. The VHX 6000 uses an image stitching algorithm, combined with a motorised stage to
provide the user with an overall high resolution (20,000 x 20,000 pixels) image of the ... Show more

A Pixel shift method allows for high resolution imaging, and by specifying the measurement point on
a high resolution image, the measurement is taken at an increased accuracy. This along side the
automatic edge detection function, reduces measurement discrepancies between users. Along with the
ability to make accurate measurements quickly, the VHX 6000 allows for clean and contamination
analysis in line with ISO 16232 Standards . The sample surface image is divided into multiple regions
and these regions are analysed individually, which allows for large areas to be contamination analysed.
If using a high resolution microscope lens with a large depth of field, highly precise measurements of
samples can be taken down to 1m. This allows for calculations such as porosity areas, volume
fraction of defects etc. If a sample surface has height variations a fully focused image can be obtained
instantaneously by bringing together images taken over a range of focal planes. This focal position
data can then be used to produce a three dimensional model. The VHX 6000 can create a three
dimensional image, by using a depth from defocus method by calculating height and analysing
extremely small changes in texture. Even within areas of low contrast or under and over saturated
pixels can be accurately calculated unlike when imaged using conventional microscope methods such

Autism Is A Complex Disability Essay
Autism is a complex disability, as the way it manifests in each child differs in severity across
numerous characteristics. Children diagnosed with autism qualify to receive special services and a
free, appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment under the federal legislation,
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 15). Autism was added to IDEA
in 1990 as a new disability category. The legislation defines autism as a developmental disability
significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, generally evident
before age 3 that adversely affects a child s educational performance (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 301).
The Rules for the Provision of Special Education from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction
of Washington state also outlines eligibility and individualized education programs for children
diagnosed with autism (Rules for the Provision of Special Education, p. 11 46). Furthermore, the DSM
diagnoses autism when a child shows qualitative impairments in social interaction, communication,
and restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities (Hunt Marshall,
2012, p. 302).
In 2011, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that on average, 1 in 10 children each
year are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 304). However, the
number of children diagnosed with autism in recent years is

The Importance Of Arts In Education
Some schools in the United States offer a variety of arts programs, while other schools may have
mediocre to non existent arts programs. Students in their early years of schooling from elementary to
high school depending on whether he or she has an arts education can affect them in the long run. Art
programs since the 1980s have integrated into public education, however the No Child Left Behind act
has since put the arts in the decline. According to Americans, 93% of them agree the arts are vital to
providing a well rounded education for children and 86% agree that arts education encourages and

Under the No Child Left Behind Act, passed in 2002, the federal government started assessing school
districts by their students scores on reading and mathematics tests. Due to having reading and
mathematics as the core way of assessing how much a school does and how much it receives in
federal funding, schools focus more on reading and math over anything else including art. Deep
budget cuts on the art education at the benefit of mathematics and reading has long lasting effects on
schools that do so. According to National Endowment for the Arts 2015 Annual Report, many state
and local organizations depend on federal funding to sustain accessible arts programs throughout the
country. With funding being limited, art has to be reduced as it s deemed unimportant. Furthermore a

Persuasive Essay On Secondhand Smoke
Introduction The federal government should pass a nationwide smoking ban from all indoor facilities.
There are many controversial statements out there, but indoor smoking should not be one of them.
There are many lives being affected by people smoking in public facilities. As this puts others at risk
for severe health problems.
Main Point #1 Many may ask what secondhand smoke is. Or many may ask is it harmful? Some may
think, just because I don t actually smoke cigarettes then it can t be dangerous. This is where people
need to be informed on just exactly what secondhand smoke is. According to the CDC website
Secondhand smoke comes from tobacco smoke such as cigarettes, and there are over 4,000 chemicals
in them while over 250 are the ones that they actually know that can cause deadly diseases. The CDC
website also states how many deaths are caused form secondhand exposure in the U.S every year, and
that is around 34,000. To think a lot of these deaths could have been prevented with the help of a ...

The Legacy Of Abraham Lincoln Essay
Abraham Lincoln is a name most commonly associated with our country s Civil War and the abolition
of slavery. When one thinks of this name, one usually envision s his tall, slender physique and that
iconic tall black hat. His face can usually be seen with a look of concern and depth in his eyes. This
man faced not only guiding his country through a state of grave danger, but also terrible tragedies that
would destabilize his personal life. Lincoln would come to lose two of his children (the third died after
Lincoln s assassination), doubt his wife s sanity, and lose his own life. Yet in spite of these personal
struggles, Lincoln immersed himself in his work, and shattered expectations to go down in history as
one of America s greatest presidents.
Lincoln, born in Kentucky, was mostly self educated. Even at a young age, Lincoln was no stranger to
devastation. His mother, Nancy Lincoln, died of milk poisoning when Lincoln was only 9 years old.
This left his sister, Sarah, aged 11, to look after the family. Lincoln s father remarried eventually, and
Abraham took to his stepmother kindly. His sister Sarah died during childbirth in 1828, and greatly
affected him. Some believe that this is when his depression first began to surface. He became engaged
to Mary Todd in 1840. After Lincoln broke off the engagement for unknown reasons, the two
rekindled their relationship and married in 1842. Robert Todd Lincoln was then born in 1843, Edward
Baker Lincoln (called

My Family At Toys R Us For Her Daughter s 8th Birthday
When I visited my Aunt in Concord not too far outside of the San Francisco, I accompanied her in
buying a present at Toys R Us for her daughter s 8th birthday. When entering the store it gave a very
exciting and bright atmosphere. The colors were very vibrant with shelves upon shelves of different
types of toys. The colors at the front seemed to have a combination of all the different colors and
seemed to keep a neutral environment. The store had many places for kids to wonder such as a video
game section, different toy sections that were separated into types of toys, and the older kid sections
which included bikes, scooters, tri wheelers, and push carts which were just for the parents to use to
push their toddlers around.

This obviously is to intrigue the boy who shows interest in explosions and people fighting off
monsters to save the Earth. For the bigger toys in these sections, I noticed that the toys meant for boys
had many toys that suggested they should pretend to be different super heroes. In this section even
though many heroins had similar colors to the men, there were no girl super heroes in this section
despite having many batman and superman toys.
When walking into the girl isles of the toy store, the type of toys completely changed. When walking
in the isles I noticed that the colors obviously changed to pink and purple. The type of toys in these
isles completely contrasted the toys meant for the boys. Toys meant for girls usually comprised of
barbie dolls, flowers, and many color books of princesses. Most toys in this section suggested tea
parties and playing house. Many of the toys also promoted little girls to wear aprons and to bake
cookies and other meals for fun. One of the interesting things about this isle however were how they
had more Life size toys than the boys. The life size toys were usually barbie dolls where they could
dress up the toy in the girls actual clothing to see what the barbie doll would look like. Another thing
that I noticed was that most of the toys were very similar to one another because the girl isles

  • 2. Filipino And Colonial Mentality US also selected promising Filipino leaders and sent them to prestigious American universities where they learned American forms of ov government and culture, They would return to the philippines securing positions within government and governed based off American model. It was as it seems, what the Americans had intended to do. Knowingly or not, these Filipinos who were educated through the American system may have supplemented the teachings of the Americans through the way they led and communicated with the Filipinos back home, contributing to the notion that anything that was western, or American, is far better than anything filipino, which in turn may have affected their devaluing in the filipino culture. Colonial mentality can be described as an attitude that colonized people feel themselves to be inferior to their colonizers based on the fact of colonization. There are numerous other examples where Filipino/Filipino Americans can experience colonial mentality. We can see this stemming from results of generational family socialization and the continued americanization that continues to exist, further endorsing notion of american superiority over filipino ethnicity and culture. An example of the generational family socialization can be seen throughout the novel of American Son. Ika s two sons, Gabriel and Tomas are half filipino and half white as a result of their father who served in the military and is no longer part of their life. Neither of these children ... • 3. How Does Creon Fight In Antigone I would not count any enemy of my country as a friend. In the play Antigone, written by Sophocles, Antigone finds herself torn apart between divine law and state law. The play opens up at the end of a war between Eteocles and Polyneices, sons of Oedipus and brothers of Antigone and Ismene. These brothers, fighting for control of Thebes, kill each other, making Creon king of Thebes. Creon, as king, gives an important speech to the citizens of Thebes, announcing that Eteocles, who defended Thebes, will receive a proper burial, unlike his brother Polyneices, who brought a foreign army against Thebes. This speech introduces the major conflict of divine law versus state law. Furthermore, Creon cherishes order and loyalty above all else. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is evident, through this argument, that there is dramatic foil between Ismene and Antigone. Ismene is a typical woman of the Greek s society, accepting male dominance. She believes that a man can do as he pleases, and a woman must not get in the way of his wishes. Antigone, on the other hand, not only speaks her mind, but acts on her beliefs as well. In the end, she makes up her own rules and assumes full responsibility for her actions. Although Creon has stated that the traitor Polyneices must not be given proper burial, Antigone is the only one who speaks against this decree and insists on the sacredness of family. Whereas Antigone sees no validity in a law that disregards the duty family members owe one another, Creon s point of view it the total opposite. Antigone calls attention to the difference between the divine law and human law. She doubts Creon s authority. Creon represents the power of human law and of the human need for an orderly, stable society. Between Antigone and Creon there is no compromise. They both find absolute truth in the beliefs they stand up for. Antigone admits right from the start that she wants to carry out the burial because it is a glorious action. Creon s pride is that of a tyrant, failing to take advice. They both suffer from pride, which causes them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tension and suspence in the movie is enhanced through different angles, sound effects and dialogue. The first time the audience see the bridge, in the train bridge scene, it is a long shot of the boys and the tracks streched out infront of them. This angle makes the boys seen small and weak. This idea is re inforced when the boys look anxious and their voices shake slightly. • 6. Pearl Jam Research Paper Anyone familiarized with grunge music can agree that the genre skyrocketed in popularity in the 90 s, due to bands such as Radiohead, Nirvana, and most importantly Pearl Jam. From the beginning of Seattle s early grunge scene rose a band that would go on to make multi platinum albums, tour the world, and use their platform to express their own beliefs. Pearl Jam, in spite of their fame, prefer to use their art to reflect their values and use their platform to convey their activist beliefs. Pearl Jam has taken on many social controversies, such as abortion rights, George W. Bush, and encouraging the people to vote. Since these two locations contain about 45% of farm with flock size between 50,000 and 99,000 and about 46% of farms with flock size 100,000 and over, regional offices should be set and more selling effort should be invested. • 8. The Disadvantages Of Artifice Emily Olenik December 1, 2017 Ms. Dolan AP Language The Disavowal of Artifice As a society we are guided by false veneers and deceit. Artifice is unfortunately a prominent tactic used in hope of gaining the respect of the public. Politicians and celebrities who we look up to utilize artifice on a daily basis to gain our recognition and approval. Even teenagers are being taught how to use artifice to their advantage. Chris Hedges believes that the use of artifice is a necessary device to achieve success. In his book, The Empire of Illusion, he discusses the appeal of artifice and how individuals become unreal and ignored if they do not utilize it. His viewpoint is immensely untrue because this strategy causes a never ending cycle of conflict. If we continue to feign our true appearances, we will become unable to fix societal issues we face to today. The celebrities in the media are typically portrayed as people we should look up to and let guide us. They use artifice to make themselves come across and trustworthy and generous, when in reality they are just the opposite. One serious problem has surfaced this year regarding the sexual harassment of actresses in Hollywood. Producers, directors, and other actors have been using artifice to keep their crimes a secret from the public. One of the most noteworthy examples is the accusations made against film executive and producer, Harvey Weinstein. Over eighty women have stepped forward to share their stories about his ... According to Perkins, from small coastal footholds, the land stretched before the newcomers in majesty and mystery, while the inhabitants they met told of wonders yet unseen of towering peaks and mighty rivers, of shifting sands and ancient cities, in a continent of unimaginable size, more than half of it covered by forest of fabulous density (p.2). • 10. Linear Momentum Abstract: This experiment studies the conservation of linear momentum through a carefully calculated collision. Two gliders were used on an air track with different weights to demonstrate what would happen as gliders with varying masses collided into one another. Throughout the experiment the measured values of the momentum before and after the collision were used to calculate the total momentum conserved. Introduction: The question of whether or not momentum is lost or conserved during a collision has been a topic of interest for many years. When two objects of equal mass or varying masses collide what is the outcome? The gliders are used to vary the weights and the air track is used to take away all variables of friction that could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This velocity was multiplied by the mass of the glider to calculate both its momentum before and after the collision. There were three different situations used in which the weights of the incident and target gliders were either equal or different. When the two masses are equal, the velocity should be exchanged from the incident glider to the target glider. Therefore, the incident glider takes on the velocity of the target glider and the target glider takes on the velocity of the incident glider. When the incident glider has a mass greater than the target glider, the target body takes up a velocity in the opposite direction that is twice the incident glider. After calculating the velocities and momentum of each collision, the percent uncertainty was calculated by gently pushing a glider through two photo gates and recording the velocity of the glider through each one. Using the following formula, we calculated the percent difference which is also the percent uncertainty in our speed measurements: . Using case 2, we calculated ratios of mass and velocity for each configuration. Using the following formula, we compared the ratio of mass and ratio of velocity. We compared the ratios to see if momentum was conserved by seeing if the ratios agree within three times the percent uncertainty in the velocities. . • 11. Mission Statement On Community And Community Service In... I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to address a concern of mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our church s presence in our community. Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting community outreach opportunities is so important. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although both men are very different, they have some similarities. The short story, The General History of Virginia, John Smith shares his and his crew s experiences with the New World, just like the short story, Of Plymouth Plantation, by William Bradford does. While these short stories both fall under the same category, coming to the new world, they are not exactly the same nor are they much different from each other. For example, Bradford writes, ... they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean... (Bradford 78). This just shows how much faith the pilgrims had in their religion. They believed that if they kept their faith, that possible everything would be okay. Another difference that they had was that John Smith s story was in first person, and the Pilgrims story was in third person. John Smith used a handful of adjectives to describe himself as strong and brave. As for the Pilgrims, Bradford did not give any implications that he himself was a Pilgrim, which is why his story was in third person. Not only that, but he did not use pronouns like, I, We, or Us. A Glimpse of the Current Situation, The Policy, and Objectives of this Paper The Philippines, which is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), is the only country that follows the June March academic calendar, after Thailand shifted its academic calendar last 2011. • 19. Tess Of The D Urbervilles Color Red Essay Just as most pieces of literature, Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles uses different forms of symbolism throughout the novel. A prominent symbol through the novel, red is used quite often. Hardy uses it to foreshadow, warn, and hint at future events that are important to the theme and in the progression of the novel. Other symbolic devices are used, but the color red s myriad of meanings has proven it to be the best way to trace Tess s journey. The symbolism color red is first introduced in the description of the girls whom ar attending the May Day Dance. The girls, including Tess, are wearing various shades of white. Tess, however, is wearing one piece of red; a ribbon in her hair. The insertion of the red ribbon in Tess s attire is, in a sense, a marker. It s a red flag, if you will, that indicates the beginning of Tess s condemnation.
