The Curse Of The Wiggin Children
1. Who has found out the true identities of Demosthenes and Locke? Graff and the other commander
officers was the one who found out the true identities of Demosthenes and Locke, which are Valentine
and Peter but they choose to keep the secret without letting it reveals in public. The boy is fourteen,
the girl is twelve... And their last name is Wiggin. (p.227) But Graff recommended, and I agree, that
we should leave them alone. Not expose them. Make no report at this time except that we have
determined that Locke and Demosthenes have no foreign connections and have no connections with
any domestic group, either... (p.228). This show that the fact that Graff and the other commander

So during the voyage, after breakfast and morning exercises, Ender and Graff would usually talk.
About Command School. About Earth. About astronomy and physics and whatever Ender wanted to
know... And above all, he wanted to know about the buggers. (p.247) The oddest thing of all was that
they also don t have any communication devices on their ships... (p.248) ...but somebody dredged the
name ansible out of an old book somewhere and it caught on...That means that ships could talk to each
other even when they re across the solar system... (p.249). Both of these three quotes reveal the main
things that Ender was learned during the trip to Command School, and most important of it that Ender
learned about the buggers, which they don t communicate like our humankind do but they
communicate through ships and ships across the galaxies shows that Ender has learned an important
fact about the bugger but it s also an idea for the readers to know the bugger

Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
A. General Science Education Question
Common Core State Standards (CCSS) No Child Left Behind Act (2001) was declared as a concern to
the performance of American students compared to students in other countries. This policy led the
states to develop standards and assessments to demonstrate accountability to the standards. However,
because there were no unified standards and assessments among the states, it was impossible to know
whether all students acquired the same level of education. Therefore, in 2010, experts, researchers,
and teachers from across the country voluntarily developed a Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
that could be implemented across the nation. Currently, forty two states, the District of Columbia, four
territories, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This framework builds on previous high quality works in science education: Science for All
Americans (1989), Benchmarks for Science Literacy (1993), and NSES (1996). Unlike these previous
standards, the importance of having the scientific and educational research communities was taken
into the process for developing the framework. Thus, the most current research on science and science
learning was grounded when identifying the science that all K 12 students should know, which
increased its scientific validity and accuracy. The second step was facilitated by Achieve, Inc. with the
recognition of the importance of state and educator leadership in the development of the actual
standards. Thus, state policy leaders, higher education, K 12 teachers, and the science and business
community were involved when developing Next Generation of Science Standards

Ordinary People Movie Essay
Ordinary People follows the life of the Jarrett family─ parents Calvin and Beth and son, Conrad.
Seemingly picture perfect with an extravagant house, a nice car, and enough wealth to share, the
Jarretts seem ordinary, but much more hides behind the perfect facade. About a year before the movie
begins, Conrad and Buck, another son, go sailing on the lake when a storm hits and waves capsize the
boat. Conrad manages to hold on to the wreckage, but Buck slips away and drowns. After Buck s
death, the Jarrett family struggles with grief: Conrad attempts suicide and tries to recover from the
past; Beth turns against her family because she cannot cope with Conrad s illnesses and the death of
her favorite child; and Calvin tries to keep the family together ... Show more content on

Conrad has difficulty emotionally connecting with people, especially his friends, so he avoids them. In
return, many sever the ties with him. Conrad s parents also are affected greatly by his illness; his
father s job performance declines as he spends his days in guilt and worry for his son s health and well
being, and his mother packs up and removes herself from the family, stating that she can no longer
deal with him or his

The Class System
The class system is commonly known throughout the world, although some countries admit its
existence and adhere to it more readily than others. In the US, sociologists have broken down the
typical three classes of upper, middle and lower into six classes: upper/super class, upper middle,
middle, working, working poor, and underclass. These groupings better illustrate the current state of
society, and the variances that exist between them. The superclass is the elite. They generally are in
this class due to income from outside of work, such as gaining an inheritance. This also includes
captains of industry or other prestigious work positions, and household income is $2 million (Doob,
2013, p. 78). This group is the 1% that was rallied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s often believed that one will remain in the social class to which they were born, but structural
mobility has made a great impact on that concept. Structural mobility describes the technological or
institutional change [that] creates an increase or decrease in jobs within a certain class (Doob, 2013, p.
87). In the last few decades, this has generally served to create downward intergenerational mobility,
because the jobs that were held by baby boomers and caused upward social mobility for them have
now been replaced by technology or eliminated altogether. Younger generations have found
themselves facing competition not only from their peers, but from the machines that are quickly being

Katya Test Anxiety
Katya is a new freshman student who studies really hard to maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
Because Katya needs to maintain a 3.0 grade point average or above for her scholarship, she
experiences severe anxiety before each exam and she worries that the amount of time she studied
before test is not enough to get an A. In order to maintain her scholarship for next semester, Katya
must do well on her chemistry exam this semester. Because of this, she had a panic attack while trying
to study for the chemistry exam and the test anxiety level increase tremendously. Test anxiety is a type
of Performance anxiety a feeling someone might have in a situation where performance really counts
or when the pressure s on to do well (Kidshealth.org). The reason why Katya experiences test anxiety
is because she puts too much pressure on herself and keeps thinking that she has to get the scholarship
for next semester and must do well on the exam.
I understand how stressful Katya feels when studies for the chemistry exam. During fall semester, I
took a Marine Biology class in campus. The lecture part of the class started at 7am to 8:30am and after
the lecture, we also have a lab section, which started at 8:30am to 11:00am every Monday and
Wednesday. This class started really early in the morning and sometimes it is really hard to get up
during the cold weather, so I missed a lot of the lecture sections. In order to maintain a 4.0 grade point

Department of Homeland Security
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is third largest Executive Department of the Federal
Government charged with protecting the security of American homeland. Its primary mission is to
prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, reducing vulnerability to terrorism and minimizing
the damage from potential attacks and natural disasters. The DHS was created by President G.W. Bush
in the aftermath of terrorist attacks on America in 2001. It is relatively new agency that continues to
evolve in the 21st century. In my chosen topic I will perform research on the history and creation of
Department of Homeland Security, identify 3 of the 22 agencies within the DHS and describe their
responsibilities. The purpose of this paper is to define and give detailed information about Homeland
Security in the United States. Exploration of this topic will enhance knowledge about DHS and help
understand the responsibilities of the agencies. First article I selected was written by Columbia
University Press (2012), Homeland Security, United States Department of. The author s research was
taken from The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th edition. Columbia University Press conducted
a tremendous research that provides readers clear insight on how and when the Department of
Homeland Security was established and under what circumstances. The author indicates that DHS was
established in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on Pentagon and World Trade

Perspective In The Host
Perspective is something a scarce number of people consider when attempting to find a solution to an
issue. In The Host, written by Stephenie Meyer the importance of point of view is greatly emphasized.
Wanderer is the main character, and she is not from Earth. She has experienced many lives on several
planets, and in this story she has her view on the human race challenged when she lives alongside
them. The Host has a main idea that one s personal perspective is their reality until they can see the
other side. To begin, people who have lived their entire lives being told lies are not likely to
understand that what they have been told is false, unless someone or something proves it to them. In
The Host, Wanderer has lived her entire life acting

Miss Strangeworth Character Analysis
As long as evil existed unchecked in the town, it was Miss Strangeworth s duty to keep her town in

who writes letters to people telling them their evil in hope of them changing without the person
knowing it is her who is writing the letters.Miss Strangeworth s has a lot of characteristics, there s only
three that I would be able to describe her as organized, clever, and cruel. To begin with,The reason I
believe Miss Strangeworth s is organized, because everything that she does in her lifetime has to be

reason I believe Miss Strangeworth is cruel, because she says really disrespectful things to people

Roswell Incident
The Rendlesham Forest incident, or better known as it s nickname Britain s Roswell, occurred over a

commanders the UK may have dodged a potential UFO nuclear attack 35 years ago. TRIANGULAR
UFO TRIED TO STEAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS The days surrounding Christmas are always filled
with some magic in the air but UFO s are not normally part of the celebration. Aliens on December
26th, 1980 did not get that memo as reports of triangular shaped craft landing in the UK received
some attention from authorities. Ex cops have claimed that they first saw the lights touchdown in the
forest near a military base which cut off communication systems for about 40 minutes. Later on,the
cops went to investigate which lead to a finding of 1.5inch impact holes, damage to the trees and
increased radiation in the area. What little reports there are have been all but silenced in recent years.

What Was Elon Musk Major Accomplishments
When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor. (Musk). Elon
Musk is a man that does not give up. He failed many, many times before he succeeded. The
contributions he has made and continues to make to our society is incredible. Elon Musk is a perfect
example of the fact that the greatest things take time and patience. This 21st century developer has
founded and formed numerous things that play important roles in our everyday life.
The South African born entrepreneur Elon Musk had a unique childhood. The future millionaire was
born in Pretoria, South Africa on June 28, 1971 (Elon Musk, Business Insider). He was the first son to
a South African, British father and a Canadian mother. As a young boy, he was quite awkward and
small. He was interested in Sci Fi, computers, and comic books (Elon Musk, Business Insider). He

because we both disagree with how things have always been done. I do not like to do something just
because it has always been done that way, and Elon Musk thinks the same way.
I chose Elon Musk because I wanted to write about a person who made an impact on my current world

Cerberus had three different opinions. The first head thought they should care for their lonely mother

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Misogynist Analysis
One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest: A Misunderstood Book
People uphold their sex with pride. Gender roles have shifted throughout the history of the United
States. One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest (by Ken Kesey) was written in the 1960s (1962), a time
when gender roles for men and women were shifting. The book was very controversial, spawning
many claims and accusations; one particular claim being that Kesey promotes misogyny. This claim
misrepresents the book for what it is: a book that treats men and women in an equal limelight. One

particular example can found at the end of the book, where McMurphy is lobotomized, giving him a

woman who is actually maimed by a man in the story. Something the opposition fails to mention is the
Japanese nurse in the disturbed ward. She is the only female character in the story that is benevolent
and gentle towards the men. Due to her existence in the story, it also refutes how the story is sexist or

the thought of a story with only negative female characters a myth. One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest

Duck Commander Duck Outsourcing Strategy
Some of the most profitable companies have collapsed due to their failure to respond to changes in the
market. What started as a family business making duck calls has expanded into hunting accessories,
specialty foods, apparel, dvds, books, and speaking engagements for the Robertsons and Duck
Commander. It is no longer viable for the Robertson family, and the extended family of staff, to
handcraft each duck call on site at the current and projected rate of demand. Standard industry practice
is to outsource non strategic functions while retaining in house the company s core value functions.
Other companies attempts to keep their core value functions in house have not yielded success. Our

The Religious Symbolism and Architecture of Angkor Wat and...
Introduction
Built by the Khmers between 802 and 1220 AD, the ancient temples of Angkor Wat exist as the
remaining relics of a historically and religiously rich city. While many other historical and religious
structures in Cambodia have disappeared due in part from being constructed out of vulnerable
materials like wood, Angkor Wat still remains as a symbol of the divinity of its former kings, as well
as for the palace itself. Likewise, Indonesia s Borodubur temples exist as the single remaining
structures of the city. The temples of Angkor Wat and Borodubur hold several similarities within
architecture and symbolism, both being heavily based on religious belief. However, different features

Decorative elements through out the towers and galleries present their own characteristics and fulfill
specific needs within the temple. The towers are formed into the shape of the ever popular lotus buds,
and the galleries are used to expand the many passageways of the temple. Also, the axial galleries
within the temple are used to connect several enclosures. Characteristic decorative components of
Angkor Wat include narrative and historical bas reliefs, pediments, and devatas. The bas reliefs
located in the gallery of Angkor Wat holds a special signification for Angkor Wat. The gallery displays
heaven and the underworld in which garudas and lions are holding the celestial palaces. These gerudas
indicate that the palaces were floating in heaven, comparing Angkor Wat to the palaces of the Gods.
This display furthers the idea that Angkor Wat acts as a liason between the world of Heaven and Earth.
Because the palace physically remains on earth but spiritually resides within heaven, the palace acts as
communal place for believers to gather.
The bas reliefs and pictures did not only serve to decorate the palaces, or depict stories of the past.
They hold the important task of transforming the palace into a celestial dwelling or heavenly place.
Further evidence to support this notion is

We see these features of emerging markets as symptoms of underlying market structures that share
common, important, and persistent differences from those in developed economies.
A fundamental premise of our work is that emerging markets reflect those transactional arenas where
buyers and sellers are not easily or efficiently able to come together. Ideally, every economy would
provide a range of institutions to facilitate the functioning of markets, but developing countries fall
short in a number of ways. These institutional voidsmake a market emerging and are a prime source of
the higher transaction costs and operating challenges in these markets.
By relying on outcome criteria to assess markets, managers often overlook the ways in which
emerging markets operate differently than do developed economies. Ranking the world s economies

among the world s most developed economies, but it is an emerging market nonetheless because of its

crimes are deplorable acts. From the Amish communities of Ohio, to the streets on Houston, Texas,

Reflection On Taboos
For this sequence, our focus was on taboos. This comes out a little in Taylors New Persona and was
my main focus in Inked . I think by including these pieces of work it helps talk about the taboos in
society and it helps shed some light on the untold truths. The second assignment was my story told
through different lenses; this helped me try and expand on my writing style and adapt to writing in a
college setting. For my Taylor Swift assignment, I took very detailed notes on the music video to try
and help me get a good idea of exactly what was going on. I then decided to have my main focus on
the dark spots on Taylor Swifts career. I decided to focus on these because most of the music video
focused in on her past and how it has changed her to be a new person. In the video, there was also
reference to taboos which I explained in my writing. I was very confident on this paper and decided
not to revise for that reason.
In my second assignment, I wanted to try out as many different writing styles as I could. My goal for
my first story, My Voice , reflected my true writing style. I wanted to make it somewhat humorous and
I feel like I achieved this. Compared to this, it was different when writing the School of Horror story. I
had to get into a different mindset when writing it and I feel like I accomplished it very well. The story
about my grandparents I used more simplistic language and I accomplished this by using words like I
fell or I was nervous . The

Cherokee Removal Essay
The Cherokee people were forced out of their land because of the settler s greed for everything and
anything the land had to offer. Many Cherokee even embraced the civilization program, abandoning
their own beliefs so that they may be accepted by white settlers. Unfortunately for the Cherokee
though, the settlers would never accept them as an equal citizen. A quote from historian Richard White
says it very well, The Cherokee are probably the most tragic instance of what could have succeeded in
American Indian policy and didn t. All these things that Americans would proudly see as the hallmarks
of civilization are going to the West by Indian people. They do everything they were asked except one

In order to be civilized Cherokee men had to cease hunting and attend to either the fields of herd
livestock. This was due to the view by the settlers that the Cherokee men were lazy because the
settlers viewed hunting as fun and a sport. Because many felt that working in the fields was something
that is a woman s job many turned to herding livestock as an alternative. Cherokee women were told
that they could no longer work in the fields but should work in the household as a subservient. Many
of the Cherokee had a hard time with this as well because they felt that the women settlers were lazy
and they did not want their women to be the same way. Soon though many Cherokee women began
working in the household, cooking, cleaning, or sewing. The main way Cherokees could be
considered civilized was to accept Christianity. The U.S. government sent missionaries into Indian
Territory to build schools. At these schools though they not only taught literature, math, and English,

Cardiomyopathy Case Study
Cardiac abnormalities are often detected during physical examination of hyperthyroid
cats1
. These abnormalities are diverse and can appear as subtle, clinically inconsequential
myocardial changes but also as severe changes which could be associated with the development
of heart failure leading to death. Often times, it is difficult to determine whether cardiac
abnormalities that persist after the treatment and resolution of hyperthyroidism are the result of
the hyperthyroidism or a primary cardiac disease1

The most common form of primary myocardial disease in cats is hypertrophic

This paper evaluated plasma concentrations of two cardiac biomarkers; N terminal

in response to myocardial stretch, and cTNI is released from the cytosol of damaged

History Of The Scotch Pine
Scotch pine is native to Europe and Asia. From the British and Scandinavian peninsulas through
central Europe south to the Mediterranean and east through eastern Siberia, Scotch pine can be found
at varying elevations. It is adaptable to a wide variety of sites and accordingly, has been widely
planted for both Christmas tree and ornamental purposes. Although plantations have been established
in the United States for the purpose of producing forest products, the species does not perform as well
as in its native habitat. The Scotch Pine is invasive; it s not native to an ecosystem and which causes

There s more than one way you can make money selling on Amazon. I m going to tell you about the
main ones in this article.

books but a whole range of things) on the exact same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It costs 86p plus a referral fee for each sale. You are also restricted to the product categories you can
sell in. However, the advantage is that it costs virtually nothing to start and there are no ongoing
charges if, initially, you don t sell very much.
Selling a lot is for professional sellers who expect to sell more than 35 items a month. You pay a 28.75
monthly fixed fee and a referral fee. You can sell in all the Amazon product categories.
It isn t always viable to list low price, low volume products as a sell a little seller. To do that you need
to be a sell a lot seller! However, I d recommend you take the selling a little route to start out with.
You can always upgrade later.
Choose your option, then fill in the online form.
Pro Merchant Sellers
Once you are selling a lot you will probably also want to become what Amazon call a Pro Merchant
Seller. Pro Merchants have access to volume selling and bulk listing tools. There is a web interface
that allows you to more easily manage your product descriptions, inventory and orders. You will also
be able to export and import information to and from your account.
Once you get up and running the selling a lot/Pro Merchant option will work out much cheaper and,
importantly, will allow you to work on tighter margins and make money from sales that those who sell
just a little can t.

Methods Of Error Detecting Code
Introduction The most common method of transmitting information include use of bit strings. It s
beyond bounds of possibility to evade errors when data is stored, recovered, operated on or
transmitted. The likely source for this errors include electrical interference, noisy communication
channels, human error or even equipment error and storing data for a very long time on magnetic
tapes.. Important to consider therefore is ensuring liable transmission when large computer files are
transmitted very fast or say when data is sent over a very long distance and to recover data that have
degraded due to long storage on tapes. For a reliable transmission of data, techniques from coding
theory are used. It is done in a such a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
in case this is done, errors will not only be able to detected but also corrected . In short , in case
sufficiently few errors are made in the transmission of a codeword, it becomes very easier to
determine which codeword was sent. the following examples illustrate the idea. Application include
television cameras. Hamming Distance when it comes to information theory, Hamming distance refers
to the number of bits which are the difference between two binary strings. expressed alternatively,, the
distance between two strings A and B is ∑ | Ai Bi |. simply put in a similar way is that it determines
the minimum number of substitutions required to alter one string into the other, or the lowest number
of errors that could have changed one string into the other. large application is in coding theory, more
specifically to block codes, in which the equal length strings are vectors over a finite field. Perfect
Codes Perfect Codes refers to those codes that achieve the Hamming bound .A good example include
those codes that have just a single codeword, and also those codes that are the whole of . Another
perfect example can be illustrated by the repeat codes, where each symbol of the message is
duplicated an odd fixed number of times so as to obtain a codeword whereby q = 2. Both of these
examples are often referred to as the trivial perfect codes. In the year 1973, it was confirmed that any
non trivial perfect code over a prime power

Analysis Of The Statue Of Marshal Ney In The Fog
The photo Statue of Marshal Ney in the Fog was taken by the famous artist Brassaï in 1932, one year
before the publishing of his book Paris de Nuit , a collection of night photographies of the French
capital, mostly representing empty gardens and streets in the rain and fog. The picture, featured in the
collection, is a clear example of his early artistic period, which coincides with his first approach to
photography itself.
In the scene we can see the main element, a monument representing the illustrious French military
commander Michel Ney (which gives the title to the entire work), positioned on the extreme left,
dominating the mid and upper third, while in the lower one it is possible to notice a round fence that

Undoubtedly, without that luminous minutia, the picture wouldn t have the same appeal. The photo is
generally soft, since it doesn t convey plenty of details (given the evident atmospheric disturbances)
but when focusing on the main physical components present in the scene, in particular, the intricate
decor on the fringe of the fence, it is possible to notice an unexpected sharpness, probably achieved
with more precision in post production. Because of that, the use of colours and lights appears to be
particularly relevant. The exploitation of hidden backlight sources in this night photography gives the
perception of a much stronger and dramatic contrast, enriching the smooth grayscale palette used for
the background. The boldly black silhouette stands out majestically in the dense grey mist, and the
letters of the sign appear with some sort of mystic grandeur, also acting as a key light point. It s
impossible not to focus on them and not to notice their evident difference, their belonging to different
worlds .The depiction of neon is also significant: this kind of light is blueish and extremely cold.
Consequently, it s the complete opposite of the typical warm light provided by lampposts, always used
to portray Paris by night to convey a sense of romanticism.
Moreover, the picture is not exactly frontal, as the angle of the fence suggests: this slight curvature
accentuates, even more, the

Humanistic Therapy Theory
The therapeutic approach I have chosen to help Maggie overcome her depression is humanistic
therapy. I chose humanistic therapy because first, I like the idea of creating a relationship with your
client to enhance their self worth. Second, I like how the therapist genuinely cares about the patient
and doesn t necessarily have to prescribe medications or just see their patient as another dollar sign.
The humanistic approach is different than the psychodynamic approach because humanist tend to
listen to what their patients have to say and the patient will direct where the therapy session will lead.
However, a psychodynamic therapist already has a conversation thought out and he or she will
determine where the therapy session will go. As a humanistic therapist, the main issues I need to
discuss is her work life, attitudes towards friends or loved ones, and her inner thoughts. To start off,
the first red flag that I see observing Maggie s case is her occupation. She is said to always strive for
the best when it comes to being a medical resident. However, continuously doing work without having
time for herself could be a real problem sanity wise. Furthermore, she has been with irritable and
snippy to her coworkers especially her husband. If she continues this behavior she might lose a bond
with her work colleagues and loved ones. Lastly, her personal thoughts about her performance or
behavior could be draining on a person with depression. When these negative thoughts continue to
circulate especially with her condition it could influence her to distance herself and probably push her
to suicide. The humanistic approach would view and understand by looking at the person from a
whole perspective, instead of a specific point of view shown through sessions by observing their
behavior. Humanists view Maggie s depression as what is holding her back from becoming the best
version of herself. Humanists would believe that Maggie s depression is a result of her inability to
cope with personal circumstances or her inability to have balance in her life. Humanists would
understand her depression by listening to her thoughts and feelings. Maggie is the conductor of the
conversation and humanistic therapists are the listeners

Tabula rasa. A phrase originating from Latin that is translated to clean slate. John Locke, a
philosopher, coined this term to coincide with his theory that each human is born without any pre
existing traits or views of the world. To those who share Locke s conception, one could understand
how easily Tobias Wolff conformed to the negative impacts he had grown up with. He is the
equivalent of an unwritten book with the potential for success and academic achievement but tainted
with abandonment and neglect. The antagonists Roy, Dwight, and even his own mother are the sources

Another reason that leads to his actions, which is also the reason he wanted to strip the importance of
his receival of the name Tobias and call himself Jack instead, is his father who blatantly abandoned
him and his mother for a luxurious life. Wolff s father, in summary, was a man who married a
millionaire and moved to Paris with Jack s older brother, Geoffrey, because he had a promising future.
As wealthy as he was, the cowardly man refuses to pay his legal pittance. Jack witnesses the effects of
the lack of financial support on his mother. This anger leads him to confidently say We were barely

removing his assigned name was a way to disassociate his burden of a father to him and his mom.

the results of the original Scared Straight pilot program in 1978, Royster notices a large discrepancy in
the rates of recidivism of the pilot program compared to modern day Scared Straight style programs.
The rates of recidivism among participants in the pilot program are significantly lower than those who
participate today. In Petrosino s research, he found that 41% of children who participated in a Scared
Straight style program in New Jersey committed a new crime after the program, while a control group,
who came from the same background, but did not go through the program, showed only 11%

modified due to their awareness of being observed. The pilot program was televised, therefore,

Treatment Of Women In Candide
Voltaire s women Francois Marie d Arouet, or more commonly known by his pen name Voltaire, is a
writer and a philosopher whose works have stood the test of time. Possessing exceptional wit and

being on the bad side of the monarchs. His continuous run ins with the church and the state led to his
self imposed exile to Great Britain, where he was immensely impressed by their liberal culture and
exquisite writers such as Shakespeare, Newton and John Locke (who was his greatest influence).

The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions
During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion,
especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique
characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of
focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These
philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the
political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its
importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national
character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of
politics that required some fostering to reforms. This led this idea to moving from the realm of
speculation to a more theoretical realm with a practical applicability. This paper is going to analyzing
the concept of national character from the implications on France in the 1800s and its perspective of
the French philosophers.
A national character is defined as an expression that gives a description of all forms of collective self
perception, conduct as well as collective self perception that are shared by the various individuals

Macbeth Movie Vs Play
Macbeth is a play about a Scottish general (Macbeth) who receives a prophacy from three witches that
states that one day, he wil become the king of Scotland. This makes Macbeth power hungry so he
decides to murder the current king of Scotland, Duncan. As people grow more and more suspicious of
who killed Duncan, Macbeth is forced to commit more murders in order to protect himself from being
exposed. This leads to him becoming filled with paranoia and guilt, which ultimately is his major
downfall. Shakespeare wrote this play in 1606 to make people realize that excessive ambition can
have terrible consequences. Both the play and the movie incorporate murders into telling the story of
Macbeth, but they do so in different ways.

Macbeth was so focused on becoming king that he wanted to eliminate any threat that came his way.
The three witches had warned him to watch out for Macduff, so Macbeth decided to kill him. Not
knowing that Macduff had fled to England with Malcolm, Macbeth sent hired servents to go kill
Macduff. When they realized that Macduff was not there, they decided to kill his family instead to
prove the point that Macbeth is not afraid of Macduff. In the play, Macbeth is not present during the
murder of Macduff s family but in the movie he is. This was probably the biggest difference between
the Macduff family murder in both versions of the story. Another big difference was that in the play
when Ross told Macduff that his family had been viciously slaughtered, Macduff did not seem phased
at all. He was not very upset, just a little mad. In the movie however, Macduff nearly dies himself
when he hears the news that his family had been killed. They made it this way in the movie to make it
more dramatic and suspensful to watch. Another major difference in this scene is that in the play, the
son of Lady Macduff says Thou liest, thou shag haired villian! (Macbeth 4.2.80). After he yells this at
the murderer, the murderer stabs him to death. In the movie, the son never says this and it never shows
him getting stabbed. The movie did this to give the audience a chance to envision what the murder
was like on their own. The three big differences in the murder of Macduff s family is Macbeth was
part of the actual murder in the movie and not the play, Macduff does not get very emotional in the
play but he does in the movie, and the movie does not show the son getting stabbed while the book

  • 3. Common Core State Standards (CCSS) A. General Science Education Question Common Core State Standards (CCSS) No Child Left Behind Act (2001) was declared as a concern to the performance of American students compared to students in other countries. This policy led the states to develop standards and assessments to demonstrate accountability to the standards. However, because there were no unified standards and assessments among the states, it was impossible to know whether all students acquired the same level of education. Therefore, in 2010, experts, researchers, and teachers from across the country voluntarily developed a Common Core State Standards (CCSS) that could be implemented across the nation. Currently, forty two states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This framework builds on previous high quality works in science education: Science for All Americans (1989), Benchmarks for Science Literacy (1993), and NSES (1996). Unlike these previous standards, the importance of having the scientific and educational research communities was taken into the process for developing the framework. Thus, the most current research on science and science learning was grounded when identifying the science that all K 12 students should know, which increased its scientific validity and accuracy. The second step was facilitated by Achieve, Inc. with the recognition of the importance of state and educator leadership in the development of the actual standards. Thus, state policy leaders, higher education, K 12 teachers, and the science and business community were involved when developing Next Generation of Science Standards ... Seemingly picture perfect with an extravagant house, a nice car, and enough wealth to share, the Jarretts seem ordinary, but much more hides behind the perfect facade. Conrad manages to hold on to the wreckage, but Buck slips away and drowns. After Buck s death, the Jarrett family struggles with grief: Conrad attempts suicide and tries to recover from the past; Beth turns against her family because she cannot cope with Conrad s illnesses and the death of her favorite child; and Calvin tries to keep the family together ... • 5. The Class System The class system is commonly known throughout the world, although some countries admit its existence and adhere to it more readily than others. In the US, sociologists have broken down the typical three classes of upper, middle and lower into six classes: upper/super class, upper middle, middle, working, working poor, and underclass. These groupings better illustrate the current state of society, and the variances that exist between them. The superclass is the elite. They generally are in this class due to income from outside of work, such as gaining an inheritance. This also includes captains of industry or other prestigious work positions, and household income is $2 million (Doob, 2013, p. 78). This group is the 1% that was rallied ... Structural mobility describes the technological or institutional change [that] creates an increase or decrease in jobs within a certain class (Doob, 2013, p. 87). In the last few decades, this has generally served to create downward intergenerational mobility, because the jobs that were held by baby boomers and caused upward social mobility for them have now been replaced by technology or eliminated altogether. Because Katya needs to maintain a 3.0 grade point average or above for her scholarship, she experiences severe anxiety before each exam and she worries that the amount of time she studied before test is not enough to get an A. Test anxiety is a type of Performance anxiety a feeling someone might have in a situation where performance really counts or when the pressure s on to do well (Kidshealth.org). The reason why Katya experiences test anxiety is because she puts too much pressure on herself and keeps thinking that she has to get the scholarship for next semester and must do well on the exam. I understand how stressful Katya feels when studies for the chemistry exam. During fall semester, I took a Marine Biology class in campus. The lecture part of the class started at 7am to 8:30am and after the lecture, we also have a lab section, which started at 8:30am to 11:00am every Monday and Wednesday. This class started really early in the morning and sometimes it is really hard to get up during the cold weather, so I missed a lot of the lecture sections. • 31. Methods Of Error Detecting Code Introduction The most common method of transmitting information include use of bit strings. It s beyond bounds of possibility to evade errors when data is stored, recovered, operated on or transmitted. The likely source for this errors include electrical interference, noisy communication channels, human error or even equipment error and storing data for a very long time on magnetic tapes.. Important to consider therefore is ensuring liable transmission when large computer files are transmitted very fast or say when data is sent over a very long distance and to recover data that have degraded due to long storage on tapes. For a reliable transmission of data, techniques from coding theory are used. It is done in a such a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... in case this is done, errors will not only be able to detected but also corrected . In short , in case sufficiently few errors are made in the transmission of a codeword, it becomes very easier to determine which codeword was sent. the following examples illustrate the idea. Application include television cameras. Hamming Distance when it comes to information theory, Hamming distance refers to the number of bits which are the difference between two binary strings. expressed alternatively,, the distance between two strings A and B is ∑ | Ai Bi |. simply put in a similar way is that it determines the minimum number of substitutions required to alter one string into the other, or the lowest number of errors that could have changed one string into the other. large application is in coding theory, more specifically to block codes, in which the equal length strings are vectors over a finite field. Perfect Codes Perfect Codes refers to those codes that achieve the Hamming bound .A good example include those codes that have just a single codeword, and also those codes that are the whole of . Another perfect example can be illustrated by the repeat codes, where each symbol of the message is duplicated an odd fixed number of times so as to obtain a codeword whereby q = 2. Both of these examples are often referred to as the trivial perfect codes. In the year 1973, it was confirmed that any non trivial perfect code over a prime power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My First Choice Program I am applying to my first choice program because I want to take intensive Chinese at one of the best universities in the world, and I also want to experience the culture that my dad has told me so much about since my freshman year of high school. Miss Maudie and Aunt Alexandra were both very influential on the children. Scout and Jem viewed both women differently, but both women affected them. Aunt Alexandra and Miss Maudie were both proper southern ladies, and both wanted to help Scout and Jem grow into better people, but they had different ideas of what a good person was, and how the children could be good people. She always finds the positive side, and she doesn t talk down to Scout, she talks to her like an equal Our tacit treaty with Miss Maudie was that we could play on her lawn, eat her scuppernongs if we didn t jump on the arbor, and explore her vast back lot, terms so generous we seldom spoke to her (pg. 56). Analysis Of The Statue Of Marshal Ney In The Fog The photo Statue of Marshal Ney in the Fog was taken by the famous artist Brassaï in 1932, one year before the publishing of his book Paris de Nuit , a collection of night photographies of the French capital, mostly representing empty gardens and streets in the rain and fog. The picture, featured in the collection, is a clear example of his early artistic period, which coincides with his first approach to photography itself. In the scene we can see the main element, a monument representing the illustrious French military commander Michel Ney (which gives the title to the entire work), positioned on the extreme left, dominating the mid and upper third, while in the lower one it is possible to notice a round fence that encircles the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Undoubtedly, without that luminous minutia, the picture wouldn t have the same appeal. The photo is generally soft, since it doesn t convey plenty of details (given the evident atmospheric disturbances) but when focusing on the main physical components present in the scene, in particular, the intricate decor on the fringe of the fence, it is possible to notice an unexpected sharpness, probably achieved with more precision in post production. Because of that, the use of colours and lights appears to be particularly relevant. The exploitation of hidden backlight sources in this night photography gives the perception of a much stronger and dramatic contrast, enriching the smooth grayscale palette used for the background. The boldly black silhouette stands out majestically in the dense grey mist, and the letters of the sign appear with some sort of mystic grandeur, also acting as a key light point. It s impossible not to focus on them and not to notice their evident difference, their belonging to different worlds .The depiction of neon is also significant: this kind of light is blueish and extremely cold. Consequently, it s the complete opposite of the typical warm light provided by lampposts, always used to portray Paris by night to convey a sense of romanticism. Moreover, the picture is not exactly frontal, as the angle of the fence suggests: this slight curvature accentuates, even more, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Humanistic Therapy Theory The therapeutic approach I have chosen to help Maggie overcome her depression is humanistic therapy. I chose humanistic therapy because first, I like the idea of creating a relationship with your client to enhance their self worth. Second, I like how the therapist genuinely cares about the patient and doesn t necessarily have to prescribe medications or just see their patient as another dollar sign. The humanistic approach is different than the psychodynamic approach because humanist tend to listen to what their patients have to say and the patient will direct where the therapy session will lead. However, a psychodynamic therapist already has a conversation thought out and he or she will determine where the therapy session will go. As a humanistic therapist, the main issues I need to discuss is her work life, attitudes towards friends or loved ones, and her inner thoughts. To start off, the first red flag that I see observing Maggie s case is her occupation. She is said to always strive for the best when it comes to being a medical resident. However, continuously doing work without having time for herself could be a real problem sanity wise. Furthermore, she has been with irritable and snippy to her coworkers especially her husband. If she continues this behavior she might lose a bond with her work colleagues and loved ones. Lastly, her personal thoughts about her performance or behavior could be draining on a person with depression. When these negative thoughts continue to circulate especially with her condition it could influence her to distance herself and probably push her to suicide. The humanistic approach would view and understand by looking at the person from a whole perspective, instead of a specific point of view shown through sessions by observing their behavior. Humanists view Maggie s depression as what is holding her back from becoming the best version of herself. Humanists would believe that Maggie s depression is a result of her inability to cope with personal circumstances or her inability to have balance in her life. Humanists would understand her depression by listening to her thoughts and feelings. Maggie is the conductor of the conversation and humanistic therapists are the listeners ... John Locke, a philosopher, coined this term to coincide with his theory that each human is born without any pre existing traits or views of the world. He is the equivalent of an unwritten book with the potential for success and academic achievement but tainted with abandonment and neglect. Another reason that leads to his actions, which is also the reason he wanted to strip the importance of his receival of the name Tobias and call himself Jack instead, is his father who blatantly abandoned him and his mother for a luxurious life. Wolff s father, in summary, was a man who married a millionaire and moved to Paris with Jack s older brother, Geoffrey, because he had a promising future. As wealthy as he was, the cowardly man refuses to pay his legal pittance. Jack witnesses the effects of the lack of financial support on his mother. Michael Royster, professor of Criminology at Prairie View A M University, would agree. In analyzing the results of the original Scared Straight pilot program in 1978, Royster notices a large discrepancy in the rates of recidivism of the pilot program compared to modern day Scared Straight style programs. The rates of recidivism among participants in the pilot program are significantly lower than those who participate today. In Petrosino s research, he found that 41% of children who participated in a Scared Straight style program in New Jersey committed a new crime after the program, while a control group, who came from the same background, but did not go through the program, showed only 11% recidivism. In contrast, the results of the pilot program showed only 6% of the participants returned to crime (Petrosino). Royster offers several explanations for this gap in rates of recidivism, one being the Hawthorne Effect. The Hawthorne Effect describes the phenomenon in which one s reaction is modified due to their awareness of being observed. • 40. The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion, especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of politics that required some fostering to reforms. This led this idea to moving from the realm of speculation to a more theoretical realm with a practical applicability. This paper is going to analyzing the concept of national character from the implications on France in the 1800s and its perspective of the French philosophers. Macbeth was so focused on becoming king that he wanted to eliminate any threat that came his way. The three witches had warned him to watch out for Macduff, so Macbeth decided to kill him. Not knowing that Macduff had fled to England with Malcolm, Macbeth sent hired servents to go kill Macduff. When they realized that Macduff was not there, they decided to kill his family instead to prove the point that Macbeth is not afraid of Macduff. In the play, Macbeth is not present during the murder of Macduff s family but in the movie he is. This was probably the biggest difference between the Macduff family murder in both versions of the story. Another big difference was that in the play when Ross told Macduff that his family had been viciously slaughtered, Macduff did not seem phased at all. He was not very upset, just a little mad. In the movie however, Macduff nearly dies himself when he hears the news that his family had been killed. They made it this way in the movie to make it more dramatic and suspensful to watch. Another major difference in this scene is that in the play, the son of Lady Macduff says Thou liest, thou shag haired villian! (Macbeth 4.2.80). After he yells this at the murderer, the murderer stabs him to death. In the movie, the son never says this and it never shows him getting stabbed. The movie did this to give the audience a chance to envision what the murder was like on their own. Acids and bases are everywhere but, there are two specific types: Sulphuric Acid and Sodium Hydroxide which we use on a regular day bases. An acid classifies a wide range of materials including Sulphuric acid and bases Sodium Hydroxide. When manufacturing soaps they use Sodium Hydroxide, and detergents use Sulphuric Acid. But these two can be very poisonous, and there are many symptoms that may happen, some even severe. The title shows how much people may be using dangerous things without having the knowledge that they can harm them. Acid and bases can be found in our everyday lives. An acid is a compound that usually has a sour taste, containing hydrogen that can be replaced by a metal to form salt. Bases taste bitter and feel slippery, their water solution conducts and electric currents. When acids and bases are put together they make salt and water. The Arrhenius theory states that acids are substances which produce hydrogen ions in a solution and bases are substances in which produce hydroxide ions in a solution. Neutralization happens when hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions produce water. Something we use every is soaps, detergents and fertilizers, all of these have acids and bases.
