Roundtable members and three Student Senators. They will research best practices from other
institutions and create a proposal that UNITY will vote on and present to the board of Trustees during
their spring gathering.

The first major battle was Juno and it was landed on by Canadians. The objectives of the 3rd Division
on D Day were to cut the Caen Bayeux road, seize the Car piquet airport west of Caen, and form a link
between the two British beaches of Gold and Sword on either side of Juno Beach. The landings
initially encountered heavy resistance from the German 716th Infantry Division; the preliminary
bombardment proved less effective than had been hoped and rough weather forced the first wave to be
delayed until 07:35. The beach was defended by two battalions of the German 716th Infantry
Division, with elements of the 21st Panzer Division in reserve near Caen. The Canadians took heavy
casualties in the opening minutes of the first wave. Strength of numbers, as well as coordinated fire
support from artillery and armored squadrons, cleared most of the coastal defenses within two hours
of landing. The subsequent push inland towards Car piquet and the Caen Bayeux railway line
achieved mixed results. The sheer numbers of men and vehicles on the beaches created lengthy delays
between the landing of the 9th Brigade and the beginning of substantive attacks to the south. The 7th
Brigade encountered heavy initial opposition before pushing south and making contact with the 50th
Infantry Division at Creully. The Queen s Own Rifles of Canada had reached its D Day objective, and

Police Chief Brody jumps up from his tense sitting position and shouts for everybody to get out of the
water. This was what Police Chief Brody was worried about. The boy, Alex is a lost cause can do
nothing but scream, splash and attempt to believe he can escape from the sharks clutches. Alex is
dragged down violently as he tries to gasp for breath; he is finally dragged and lost to the depths of the

Dolce et Decorum est. , both written by Wilfred Owen. I would choose these two poems to be in an
anthology because I found the poems to be very dramatic and extremely detailed. Owen intends to
shock us by demonstrating what a soldier might expect in a situation between life and death. He is not

Owen intends to shock us by presenting the reality he is feeling, this is why I had chosen this to be one
of my poems Owen usesgraphic descriptions, speaking in a very direct and straightforward way, using
words that convey ugliness and also shows the reality of war which clearly changes our thoughts of

In A Plague of Tics,
David Sedaris s describes his life from childhood to adulthood. He suffers from
OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorder). Sedaris writes, If I were to lose count of my steps, I d have to
return to school and begin again (360). This showcases the extreme case of Sedaris s OCD; that if he
does not make his route absolutely perfect, he won t be able to find peace. His compulsive routine as a
young child included his unsettling tics , which he had little to no control over. It never fails to amaze
me that people might notice these things. Because my actions were so intensely private, I had always
