Respondeat Superior
Respondeant superior is derived from the Latin word which means let the master answer. Respondeat
superior, according to Legal Information Institute, is actually the legal doctrine that grants the
employer principal legally responsibility of any wrongful deeds made by an employee especially when
such scope happens within the area of the employment.
Respondeat Superior: legal doctrine
In the United States of America, the doctrine of respondeat superior is applicable but under different
variation. For example in the Maryland, the principle step in carrying out liability is to determine

to the welfare of the employee and his original action which led to the assault.
Case 2: The Abusive Psychotherapist
When the court took an action of revisiting the issue 10 years later, it actually eschewed searching

where action was taken against psychotherapist involved in a situation where there was a sexual
misconduct by two patients at a psychiatry clinic.
It can be seen that the ground for the defendable holding was narrow. The therapist s conduct is not
very clearly aimed at serving the master (the clinic which employed him). It is observable that it is the
psychologist employment which led to the occurred sin. The therapist, according to the case abused
one of the dangerous tools of his career (employment). He also misused one of the fundamental trusts

Grapes Of Wrath Transcendentalism
In John Steinbeck s 1939 novel, The Grapes of Wrath, the theme of family is explored. Steinbeck
follows a family of migrants moving westward during the Great Depression/Dust Bowl era, and
chronicles their experiences as they live through overly inferior conditions. In Chapter Seventeen of
the novel, Steinbeck discusses what life is like generally for migrant families as they journey out west.
It becomes the norm for families to set up camp each night with other families and share their food
and experiences. The migrants set up their own rules for their society and through these rules, the
audience can understand how these people wish to be governed. Their ideals are very similar to the
ideals of Henry David Thoreau, a transcendentalist author, poet, philosopher, and historian. In an
essay entitled Civil Disobedience, Thoreau ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The migrants in Steinbeck s novel have similar beliefs, but also have differing opinions regarding the
function of government. Both Steinbeck and Thoreau agree that in a society, there should be no ranks,
and everyone should be equal and united in order for the society to function properly. When referring
to how the unity of the migrants started, Steinbeck says, In the evening a strange thing happened: the
twenty families became one family, the children were the children of all. The loss of home became
one loss, and the golden time in the West was one dream, (Steinbeck 264). The migrants didn t have a
lot of possessions when they moved westward. They were all very impoverished, so there was nothing

The Importance of Accountability in the Army Essay examples
The Importance of Accountability Is so you know where everyone is so if you need a person for
something you will know where to find them. It is also necessary to have accountability to make sure
everyone in your unit is safe and so you make sure they are where they are supposed to be. You also
want your unit to be on standby so they are ready for anything that may happen. It is also needed so
nobody goes UA. When you have accountability it is easier to track down people if you were to need
them for anything. Being accountable means being dependable, showing up to work and to
appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being at the right place and at the right time and doing the
right thing at the right time. It is also to see if everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There many reasons why accountability is an important part of business. Showing up on time is a very
important thing when it comes to work because if you ever show up late that would be time lost from
the work day or the time you lost you could have been working on something but because you showed
up late that task was never completed on time as needed. When something is not done it affects
everything in the organization. If one thing isn t completed it affects all the other tasks like a chain
reaction. Another reason accountability is needed is so you know where weapons are located. In
leadership roles, accountability is the acknowledgment of responsibility for actions, decisions, and
resulting consequences. Some of those consequences can be loss of pay, loss of rank, or loss of job.
When you say you are going to get something done you are accountable of getting it done no matter
what because you gave your word that you were going to get it done. Whenever you don t keep your
word it makes everyone think you are not reliable. Then none of your peers will come to you for help
because you will not be able to complete the task. Consequences when you do something wrong could
mean that you can lose your job or just get a warning. Whenever you do something wrong it is
possible to correct your mistake if it is possible to make a correction. The ways you can make a
mistake when getting accountability is by not having an up to date muster

Nursing Leadership Priorities
Two nursing leadership priorities, nurse retention and increasing the education level of the registered
nurse (RN) are crucial to the safety of the patients and the stability and respectability of the nursing
profession at Children s Hospital. In order to implement these leadership priorities, the objective is to
reinvent the organizational culture of nursing at Children s Hospital through the use of
transformational leadership and innovation theory.
I. NURSE RETENTION
A. Nurse retention affects quality of care and costs to the organization.
1. The quality of patient care is enhanced by nurse retention. The National Database of Nursing
Quality Indicators (NDNQI) indicates that years of nursing experience is related to a decrease in

Transformational leadership in nursing is positively related to job satisfaction, decreased burnout, and
overall staff well being, and nurse retention (Weberg, 2010)
2. Transformational leaders who inspire, stimulate intellect, have charisma and provide individual
consideration have a positive impact on nurse retention (Huber, 2014)
3. Transformational leadership can inspire nurses to attain higher levels of education, including the
BSN.
B. Organizational culture change related to nursing retention and increasing the educational level of
the RN can be accomplished by using Innovation Theory.
1. Innovation theory involves leadership being creative, abandoning the obsolete, and implementing
new processes and ways of thinking (Huber, 2014).
2. Leaders who use Innovation Theory for change are charismatic, self confident, and ambitious
(Huber, 2014).
C. Analyze current data on nurse retention and the current BSN percentage of nurses on staff, set goals
within the organization, implement leadership strategies to achieve these goals, then measure
outcomes in the next four years.
1. The organization should set a goal of retaining 80% of the nursing staff each year over the next four

The Delivery Of Public Service
There are mistakes, maladministration and misunderstanding that may occur during the delivery of
public service in the United Kingdom (UK). The citizens have a right to complain if they feel
aggrieved. There are many citizens who normally complain not only for their benefit but to ensure that
the public service is improved so that it can cater for the needs of the citizens and so that the same
mistakes are not inflicted on others. However, there are instances when the complaints are not
resolved by the said service provider. In such an instance when an individual feels that the complaint
has not been fully addressed by the government agency, department or National Health Service (NHS)
in England, then that individual has a right of asking for the complaint to be referred to the
Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) or the individual can personally refer the
matter to the PHSO. This paper seeks to discuss the single reform of the PHSO that would best serve
the interests of administrative justice. An Ombudsman may be defined as an officer appointed to
investigate citizen s complaints against injustice or maladministration by public officials. The concept
of the Ombudsman is anchored on the idea that citizens have a right of complaining against specific
actions of omission or commission by public officials. The Ombudsman therefore has investigative
powers vested on him and which include investigating the internal workings of departments or entire
organization.

distinct location of considerable distance by the school. Recent studies have shown that providing high
school students the choice to a better quality of healthy food during lunch could lead to higher test
scores. (Michael, Justin, Elizabeth. How the quality of school lunch affects students academic

A Narrative Of The Oriental Rugs
Jake, a chocolate lab, examines the oriental rugs upon the floor with his head down as he patrols the
entire ground floor. As he enters a room he is not usually permitted in, his ears perk up, his tail wags
and he begins to leer around. He peers his head up onto the couch searching, and locates his prey.
Enveloped in a sheath of plaid flannel blankets a person lay out cold, fully elongated upon the
cushions covering the entirety. Jake s muscles contract as he struggles to lift his oversized body atop
the couch. His careful paws with long nails carry him bit by bit until he reaches just atop the lower
legs of the person, and plops down, releasing all of his weight at once. Out of the covers, a man yells,

Filippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments
One of the world s most famous architects and engineers was born in the Italian city state of Florence
sometime in 1377. Although he had a huge influence on building design and construction, and on art,
we don t know a lot about Filippo Brunelleschi s early life. Nonetheless, he left buildings and artwork
that still exist today, and he had two biographers who provided information about his work, from these
we can learn a lot about this Renaissance genius. His most important work, the ll Duomo di Firenze
(the Dome of the Florence Cathedral), was finished in 1436 and remains as one of the greatest
symbols of the period. Before he started building this revolutionary structure, Brunelleschi studied the
architecture of Roman buildings and monuments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Filippo Brunelleschi invented new technology for the dome and created far more advanced technology
to help the dome be built. He began studying the science of motion and particular weights, wheels,
and gears and it lead him to invent some of the first alarm clocks, as well as some of the equipment to
raise the bricks from the ground to the roof (King, 13). In addition, Brunelleschi also made sure that
the dome was being built to his standard and it was going to last a long time. For example, he
inspected every one of the four million bricks that he was going to use for the structure. Another
important quality of the dome was the mortar used to hold the bricks together. It was made by mixing
sand and water with quicklime (King, 93). The quality of the bricks and mortar was only the
beginning. He worked out how to set the bricks for the greatest strength to support the weight of the
dome by having them set in a criss crossing herringbone pattern (Mueller, 84). The brickwork was
crucial because the bricks needed to make up the dome without any outside support. In order to do this
Brunelleschi linked the bricks in a spiral going up to the top, called a herringbone pattern. The vertical
bricks acted as book ends to keep the horizontal bricks in place. The ll Duomo di Firenze was built to
be an eight sided dome that stood taller and stronger than others during that time period.

Water Pollution in Cairo Essay
Water Pollution in Cairo
The scale of pollution in Cairo is mammoth with the ever, continuing amounts of waste being released
into the city. With the ever, growing population of Cairo levels of pollution are sure to increase.
Recently the large EU financial institution announced on April 10 that it had awarded Egypt a grant of
$79,000 to investigate the cause of the choking air pollution in the city, which has been blamed on
Nile Delta. Due the massive amounts of pollution Cairo s daily air quality remains a constant health
concern. The World Health Organization has reported that the air pollution in downtown Cairo is 10 to
100 times above the level considered safe

· Most of the wastewater collected by sewerage has not received much or in some areas no treatment.
Also many wastewater treatment plants do operate unsatisfactorily.
· At the moment there are at least six operating domestic wastewater treatment plants serving the
Greater Cairo area, and none of them discharge to the Nile near Cairo: three plants discharge through
agricultural drains to the Northern Lakes and the Mediterranean, and the bilge water from two plants
will be used largely for desert irrigation and land reclamation; only one plant discharges to the Nile,
through an agricultural drain.

in the city districts many small Nile canals are totally filled with plastic bags full of solid waste.

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Tunneling Method
It is a type of underwater tunnel. It consists of segments which are constructed somewhere else and
are then floated at the tunnel site to be linked together. These tunnels are normally used together with
other tunnel construction methods like bored tunnel, etc. This method is commonly used for road and
rail crossings of river, sea channels/ harbors, etc. Refer Exhibit 7 for how it works
This method has many advantages:
1. Cost effective
2. Speedy construction
3. Resistant to earthquakes
4. Safety during construction
Some of the disadvantages are:
1. It would have direct contact with water hence it is important to have a careful waterproofing design.
2. Since the tunnel is constructed in segments, utmost care needs to be taken during the design of ...

2. Cost of lining the tunnel is reduced.

2. It is difficult to transport TBMs
New Austrian Tunneling Method
New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) or also called Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) has
revolutionized the tunneling industry. It is the most popular method of tunnel design and construction.
This method draws its advantage from the capability of using the geological strength of the
surrounding rock mass in stabilizing the tunnel. Refer Exhibit 9 for elements of NATM
The main principle of NATM is to monitor the performance of underground construction during
construction. It is also called as design as you go and design as you monitor approach since on the
basis of observed ground conditions, the desired action can be taken.
There are seven elements in NATM:
1. Exploitation of strength of native rock mass
2. Shotcrete protection
3. Measurement and monitoring
4. Flexible support
5. Closing of the invert
6. Contractual arrangements
7. Rock mass classification.

Arguments Against Gay Adoption
Only 25 out of 196 countries in the world have legalized same sex marriage, while only 26 allow gay
adoption. Gay marriage and adoption is widely opposed all over the globe. Though there s been
recordings of people who are LGBT as early as 2400 B.C, many still oppress those inside of the
community. Since the stonewall riots in 1969, the gay rights movement has been a slow progression
for equal rights and social acceptance. Gay marriage isn t deducting anything from heterosexual
marriages. Many make the argument that gay people shouldn t have the ability to get married because
of the inability to have biological children, but many straight people can t reproduce either. In the case
of gay adoption, many will argue that having same sex parents will negatively affect a child, while no
studies have proven this. Gay people should be able to adopt and marry because they can raise kids as
well as heterosexuals can, and marry without causing harm. Smith 2 Why is gay marriage feared by a

Machiavelli s The And Machiavellian Discourses
The maintenance of a state requires the ability to act in accordance to the times. The Hobbesian and
Machiavellian discourses in relation to the legitimacy of violence are distinct, nonetheless, bring forth
significant arguments. Machiavelli claims that leaders ought to be good as long as the times permit,
however, the leader with virtu ought to prepare to enter into evil when forced by necessity. Contrary to
popular belief, Machiavelli does not endorse violence, rather he provides advice to those who wish to
maintain their state or creation and in spite of the ravaging forces of time. The advice of Machiavelli is
selective as it is geared to those who wish to maintain their state, not those preoccupied with salvation.
In my understanding, Machiavelli advises that in order to maintain a political order, leaders ought to
acquire virtu and not remain obstinate or operate with eternal principles. The Hobbesian account of the
legitimacy of the use of violence is based on a notion of exceptionalism, which is the distinctive
characteristic of the sovereign. Whereas Machiavelli appeals to effects, Hobbes defence of the
legitimacy of violence is intrinsically necessary to the notion of sovereignty. By definition, the
sovereign is sovereign or exceptional to commit violence. For example, the governing laws of physics
make it impossible for man to walk on water, except when the law giver walks on water. It is in the
nature of the sovereign to determine exceptions, any act of

Theme Of Technology In The Veldt
Technology is viewed as revolutionary, inventions that make our lives simply better by the touch of a
screen to the click of a button. However, in the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury portrays that
technology, despite its benefits, has many significant flaws. The improper and overuse of technology
in The Veldt causes the characters to forget how to live for themselves. The technology takes over
their independence as well as their personal lives and relationships. In The Veldt , Ray Bradbury
asserts that becoming reliant on technology causes a strain on family relations, and can be dangerous
to the way one functions as a human, taking away one s purpose in life. To begin with, the Hadley
family abuses the luxurious technology in their home, which leads to the replacement of love and real
relationships to that of technology. The dynamic of the Hadley family is influenced by technology, and
its overuse causes the hindrance of affection in the children s relationship with their parents. When
psychologist David McClean comes to discuss the problematic African Veldt in the nursery, he
realizes the root of the problem and says: You ve let this room and this house replace you and your
wife in your children s affections (Bradbury 8). This quote conveys that as much as the children have
fallen in love with their nursery, it is taking away the love they should have for their parents.
Additionally, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, are replacing their parents with their beloved
nursery, completely shutting out their parents as a whole. As David McClean further analyzes the
children and the problems in their nursery, he exclaims that This room is their mother and father, far
more important in their lives than their real parents (8). Wendy and Peter have made the relationship
with their parents obsolete, as they now consider the nursery a substitute for their mom and dad.
Overall, the Hadley children have completely replaced their parents with technology, displaying the
cautions of technology straining familial relationships. Next, the Hadley s reliance on technology
revolves around and takes over their daily lives, restricting the way they should be functioning as
humans. The HappyLife home that the

Beowulf, An Anglo Saxon Epic Poem
Beowulf, an Anglo Saxon epic poem, contains several rhetorical strategies. The poem follows the life
of a noble warrior named Beowulf while he quests to live up to his father s name. In the poem,
Beowulf overcame many obstacles primarily those of which involved battling supernatural creatures.
Epic poems were generally written during the Anglo Saxon era. They are commonly written in an
elevated style in order to glorify the deeds of a legendary hero or god. Literary works during the Anglo
Saxon era usually focussed around a quintessential war hero of strength and noble standing while
often times referring to the Bible and Christianity. These traits of Anglo Saxon writing can
undoubtedly be found within Beowulf. Throughout the poem, the author expresses epic poem traits
through the use of rhetorical strategies. The author used literary devices such as imagery, allusion,
metaphors, and tone to express the epic traits of a legendary hero with significance, a vast setting, and
supernatural beings.
Beowulf, the fearless warrior of Geatland, established his role in the novel as the stereotypical Anglo
Saxon main character. Throughout the poem, Beowulf was unconditionally praised by the people for
his valor and strength. He commonly boasted about his fearless characteristics, When it comes to
fighting, I count myself as dangerous any day as Grendel. So it won t be a cutting edge I ll wield to
mow him down, easily as I might, (677 680). In this quote, the author uses the

The Impact of Information Technology on the Workforce of the Future
To determine the impact of information technology on the workforce of the future, I conducted a study
using an historical perspective on the use of information technology in the workplace and by the
workforce.
This study also considered recent trends in workforce management such as telecommuting,
globalization, outsourcing, and off shoring activities. The results of this study revealed that
technological advances in office equipment over the past thirty years have enabled organizations to

Computers loaded with word processing, spreadsheet analysis and presentation software programs
have become standard fixtures on each employee s desk. Some of the workforce became mobile,
conducting business outside of the traditional office settings through the use of Personal Digital
Assistants (PDAs), cellular phones and laptop computers. The initial users of mobile technology were
salespeople and executive management; however, easier access to the Internet allowed more
employees to become telecommuters, who conducted work related activities either from their homes
or from some other remote location.
Technological advances in electronic communication may continue to decrease the need for traditional
office setting while increasing the number of telecommuters. Electronic capabilities will also continue
to affect outsourcing, off shoring and globalization efforts by many organizations.
Collaboration technologies, currently being enhanced by Microsoft and IBM, may enable companies
to conduct virtual meetings in the near future. In a virtual meeting, employees from remote locations
conduct real time meetings from their own computers using peer to peer software. Participants can see
one another on computer screens, share computer space and make changes to product designs or
contract documents via a virtual whiteboard.

Why Global Warming Doesn T Cause Disease Thomas Moore Summary
This world is heating up, and all the fire mix tapes that are getting dropped are not the reason why.
Global warming is a very controversial topic in the first place, but is the idea that it is the cause of
diseases even more disputable? It seems so. Thomas Gale Moore, a Senior Fellow at Stanford
University, wrote an argumentative paper titled Why Global Warming Doesn t Cause Disease , using
sources from the late 1990 s and arguing that The United States Government stating information
concluding that Global warming may cause disease is wrong and should pay attention to the experts
on disease. The information that you will gain from this article is that Global warming is a possible
cause of disease (Moore, n.d).
In the introduction of Thomas Gale Moore s essay, he states that Threats of global warming are
bringing on a plague... infestation we speak of is a plague of misinformation, infecting the public
consciousness and blurring the issue of the effects of climate change on human health in a swarm of
anxiety and confusion . One of his sources states that global warming is not the current problem. It is a

the protestant reformers, like those of, John Calvin, Martin Luther, John Wesley, Ulrich Zwingli, he
would carry a name of his own. He was/is considered to be a forerunner, one who kicked off the

Carousel Alternate Ending
In front of Jack lay a shadow of a mysterious person. With a Texas accent, the strange voice called,
HEY Y ALL. HOW Y ALL DOING? 5 Minutes Earlier...

Finally! Sally sighed in a sarcastic way as her eyes rolled around constantly like a carousel.
Jack and Sally ran down into the field. Sally was usually angry at Jack, but for once, she was not.

I m fine, Jack responded

Remember when we fed Bob and Patricia berries because they can eat them? So, we can use a fishing
rod with a bunch of berries, which would attract some turkeys. Then, we pick one and eat it for
Thanksgiving. Mom and Dad will never find out.
That sounds great! Let s get started.
1 Day Later....
On Thanksgiving day, the turkey that Jack and Sally picked tasted delicious! The Brown family
feasted on turkey, ham, corn, squash, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, and much much more.
To cut the turkey, Dad used an electric carving knife. As a thank you gift from Sally, she gave Jack a
special rock and Jack then named it Plymouth, Plymouth the Rock. Ever since that day, Jack and Sally
s relationship changed in a good way. Jack then learned a lesson that day: to always help anyone in
need. That lesson paid off about a month later. On Christmas that year, Jack received the gift that he
has always been waiting for: an iPhone 7 Plus! Sally also learned to not be sassy to her brother
anymore. Anyways, in the end, everybody received some knowledge about how to be a better family

Eating Nuts Research
Bogus Science Everyone wants to live longer, but the lengths that people will go is outrageous. People
are so desperate to fight the inevitable that they are willing to fall for bogus scientific claims. One of
these cases is Eating nuts linked to healthier, longer life , an article written by the Harvard Medical
School. This article claims that eating nuts will increase your life expectancy, but is that really the
case? Foremost, to determine if this article is relaying truthful information we need to look at the
scientific method. When examining the research, found in the New England Journal of Medicine, the
experiment is looking for a relationship between nut consumption and mortality rate. The hypothesis
is that consuming nuts will

ETHICAL FRAMEWORK, LIMITS OF PROFICIENCY AND THE LIMITATIONS ON
COUNSELLORS COMPARED TO OTHER PROFESSIONS THAT USE COUNSELLING SKILLS.
The Ethical Framework is made up of rules and regulations within which Counsellors and
Psychotherapists strive to achieve in order to attain a high professional standard. It protects client and
counsellor and compounds values, principles and personal moral qualities for counsellors to work
alongside in order to achieve the highest standard of counselling for clients. These include safety,
record keeping, confidentiality and issues such as prejudice, transference. It also requires that at the
start of every new counselling relationship a clear contract is set up between the counsellor and the
client. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Counsellors are required to have adequate training and supervision to help maintain them throughout
their professional lives. Counsellor must be respectful of their professional position and remain loyal
to their clients. Although someone who uses counselling skills will utilise the same key concepts and
principles, such as empathy and unconditional positive regard, they are less likely to belong to, and be
bound by, a professional body such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy
(BACP). When we look at other professions like social workers, housing officers, the emergency
services, the police and priests who utilise counselling skills we realise that some of the key concepts
that are fundamental to the counselling profession are not their main priority. If such people were to
introduce themselves as counsellors their clients may be under the impression that such things as
confidentiality will be upheld. An example is the work of doctors, social workers, nurses and carers, in
these types of professions advise is given to the client as to what to do and what not to do, medication

Provide early treatment, including access to drug treatment and rehabilitation programs. Reduce risk
of the client re offending. The Bail support program also aids an accused person that would otherwise
be remanded in custody to be granted bail and to remain on bail to satisfy the conditions of their bail.
A decrease of relevant services to aid youth to gain bail and meet the conditions has been noted as
possibly contributing towards the large number of youth on custodial remand, mainly for the
indigenous community and younger people who reside in more remote and regional areas.
Because of this the provision aid in finishing bail orders can partake a critical role in decreasing rates
of custodial remand. The bail Support programs are mainly aimed at the youth or adults, to distinguish
the different needs of the groups. The jurisdictions youth Justice department or non government
organisations give them. The Bail support program was created from two other bail programs. The
Bail support program main aim is to achieve the successful completion of bail by the accused that
would normally be in custody. Reduce the amount of accused kept in remand because of lack of
treatment, support from the community and lack of accommodation.

Constantine The Great And Flavius Valerius Constantinus
PART A
Constantine, more formally known as Constantine the Great or Flavius Valerius Constantinus, was
born on the 27th of February in possibly 280 CE. Constantine was a Roman, and subsequently
Emperor known to be Christian. Flavius Valerius Constantius, whom was an army officer, was his
father, whilst his mother is named Helena thought to possibly be a concubine of his father. His father
is known for being raised to the title of Caesar, becoming known as Constantius Chlorus, granted 3
years of peaceful rule due to the treachery of the previous ruler of Roman Britain. The key influences
for Constantine are firstly his father. Having been able to watch the ascendancy of his father to
Emperor, and follow in his footsteps to become Emperor of Rome himself it is clearly evident that
Constantine s father was a great role model. Constantine also found himself under the tutelage of
Diocletian after his father took him to the East Empire becoming known as a youth amongst the
leaders there.
PART B
Constantine is most notably recognized due to his leadership as Emperor of Rome, and the way in
which he gained power and held it for such a long time. The first thing that he is best known for is that
he was the first of the Roman Emperors to embrace the Christian faith, going against he paradigms
and religion of the time. Before Constantine, Christianity was tolerated, but much persecution ensued.
His shift to Christianity made it legal, and it became the official religion of the

Symbolism In The Old Man And The Sea
In The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, Santiago faces trial and injury to prove himself a
great fisherman. He s pertinacious throughout each journey; working diligently, he still returns without
a prospect of success. Hemingway uses powerful symbols to reveal his theme that conflict is more
important than outcome. Santiago s proven as a symbol through his honor and pride, those
characteristics keep him perseverant throughout each journey he endures. In this introduction of
Santiago, Hemingway tells him as the old man. Throughout the story, his old age plays a valuable role
in his fishing abilities; his body s well worn out, except for his eyes which are cheerful and undefeated
(10). His eyes are the same color as the sea which portrays his livelihood. He has joy and love for
fishing to such a great extent that that s what keeps him positive through the tedious times (10). He
takes pride in the work that he accomplishes and honors it deeply. After suffering his final loss,
Santiago states that man can be destroyed but not defeated (103). Santiago s outlook implies that when
a man fails, he pursues it with a purposefulness that shows insufficient effort. No matter the outcome
he retains his skill and strength and possibly even gains wisdom for any future challenges. Manolin,
Santiago s closest family member and friend, described him as a unique and all around great
fisherman. From Manolin s view: Santiago is the most important to him. He declares that there is

Santa Marta Settlement Of A Farm Owned By Francisco Jose...
Minoja (2012) found that until 1824, the area now occupied by Santa Marta settlement is part of a
farm owned by Francisco Jose Leite, Baron of Vassouras. In 1824 the land then passed to a second
owner of the farm to the Baron of Macaubas. In 1920 began the growth of the nearby suburb of
Copacabana and Botafogo, causing large amounts of development and thus increasing the need for
workers. On Santa Marta hill, due to the construction of Santo Inacio church and college, many people
migrated for the economic opportunities offered by the project and for the land in which to erect
houses offered by the priests. This project lasted almost 30 years.
The priest permitted the workers to erect their houses on Santa Marta hill, marking the beginning of
this settlement. The first dwellings were built on the top section of the hill surrounded by the atlantic
forest, one of the first being the chapel built by Jesuit priests consecrated to Santa Marta, in which the
settlement is named after (Minoja, 2012, pg41).
Between 1930 1940 many people migrated from other areas of Brazil, as a result over time the
settlement densified and grew downwards towards the city. In 1940 approximately 31% of Brazil s
population was living in urban areas and the first census was conducted of 14 favelas in Rio de Janeiro
(Minoja, 2012).

All the ranks on the social class had dropped. The poor became poorer than the poor. Finding work
was sporadic at best and it was impossible for men to pay for their homes which led to people having
to move into their cars, piano boxes and anything they could possibly find shelter in. The Great
Depression got farmers the worst as severe dust storms hit the prairies. Temperature raised immensely
in 1936 making wind storms hotter and drier, and with no rain there was no crops. Western prairies
became almost completely dependent on the export of wheat but grass hoppers and plant diseases
cause the last few crops destroyed. Farmers had to sell their farms as debts raised because they couldn

teachers and increase the amount of students. Even marriage was effected, while Canada experienced
the Great Depression, many couples refrained from marrying due to economic uncertainty and high
unemployment. These causes of the Depression impacted the everyday Canadian.
Moreover, the Canadian government took many measures to pull Canada out of the Depression they

Emily Bronte started writing Wuthering Heights in December of 1847. She was born on July 30, 1818

alternative was her liking to animals as they do not judge nor cause pain, just love for their human
counterpart. She was known for having the will of iron because anything that she sets her mind too
gets done without hesitation. This can be seen in her writing as one of her characters in the book never

Majority of the people would get sick and die because of the lack of medicines and antibiotics. The
characters would mostly die from being sick. This is an issue because kids would often be left alone
without parents. Since the main character did not have any parents, he was raised cruelly. He was
abused and mistreated by none relative and made him grow up to be a psychopath. The author did a
great job on using symbols to help understand what the feeling and emotions are running through the
characters minds. Many scenes were memorable. The first scene that caught my attention is the female
and male first realize the love that they have for each other. The scene helped me understand what a
nice moment it was for both of the characters. Heathcliff s love for Catherine is intense and he is very
romantic and full of passion. She loves him as well and she considers themselves as one. She tells

The Effect Of Heat On The Transport And Removal Of...
Effect of heat on the transport and removal of contaminants from soil
1. Introduction
1.1 Background
Soil remediation has emerged as an important field in Applied Sciences due to its potential in
environmental clean up of harmful chemicals and contaminants. Various incidents in the past like the
deep water horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has raised an alarming question regarding how to
protect the environments encountering such devastating effects and restore them to their original state.
In this regard, researchers have put together their efforts coming from various disciplines to be able to
find a solution for this challenging question.
Soil forms an important asset of today s urban and rural population. Crops growing on fertile soils are
important for feeding the millions around the globe. Accidental oil spills from water bodies and
industries contaminate the soil in its vicinity. Also, pollution due to pesticides and insecticides have
increasingly demanded soil clean up and restoration. Often we lay more emphasis on the role of biotic
agents in remediation/ biodegradation but forget the important role that some physical effects have on
the remediation of soils. This can be more advantageous and often is more effective in contaminant
removal than other chemical or biological processes. The potential for using such an approach is clear
in the fact that such methods are currently being used at some Superfund sites throughout the United
States. They have been proven

Alienation
Alienation
Alienation is defined as; isolation from a group or an activity to which one should belong or in which
one should be involved, but the definition can change depending on a person s experience. Alienation
can come across in many different feeling s such as powerlessness helpless and ineffectual,
meaninglessness having no significance, normlessness lack of social norms, cultural estrangement and
social isolation. In the three chosen texts; Enter Without So Much As Knocking by Bruce Dawe,
Capitalism and Alienation by Danielle Pioli and Be My Brother by Geneueve Clay, alienation is
forced upon the characters by external forces.

In contrast to the pig the worker s clothes are painted dirty and unclear brush work has been used. This
brings a sense of self estrangement to the picture, as the worker doesn t care about his work otherwise

Capitalism and Alienation by Danielle Pioli is much like Enter Without So Much As Knocking by
Bruce Dawe. They both show that alienation is caused by external forces and both shows that these
types of alienation, powerlessness and meaninglessness are mainly caused by society how it values
money.
The third text is a short film called Be My Brother by Geneueve Clay. The alienation present in this
film, like the other texts, is caused by external forces. In contrast to the two texts, the film show the
cause of this alienation is a stereotypical point of view towards the main character Richard. This
causes Richard to be socially alienated throughout the film. There are also signs of cultural
estrangement and family alienation. In the establishing shot, alienation is created through the main
character Richard. This is shown through the many camera techniques, such as close up of hand as

Free Will Arguments
Even thought the idea that everyone has free will is widely accepted and appreciated, it is obvious that
by the very definition of the word free no such thing can exist. The idea that free will exists has been
supported by several arguments against the idea that the everything in the world has been previously
determined rather than arguments that are actually for the existence of free will. This is a very key
point in the argument that free will has never and can never exist. If free will is not actually free then it
cannot be considered free will. If free will isn t free will then it has never been free will and can never
be free will. If there has never been and will never be free will, then we cannot have free will. Thus,
we do not have free will. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main argument seems to be that we have free will because we have the choice to do one thing or
another thing. This, however, is not freedom. Everyday I am made to think that I have the freedom to
choose what I want to eat for lunch. When I arrive at the commons, I have a limited amount of
options. At the Panini grill, I can choose between a turkey and cranberry Panini or a Caprese Panini.
Do I really have the freedom to choose what Panini I want for lunch? No, I don t. I have a limited
number of options meaning I have a limited freedom. If my freedom is limited, it is not free and
therefore is not actual freedom.
By definition, the word free implies without hindrance. In this sense, the only literal rather than
applied sense of the word, freedom can be found nowhere. Humans are only free to do what their
bodies and the laws of nature permit them to do. They are only free to speak in words that are
available in the language and with sounds that their mouths limit. They are free to think only what the
brain will let them. The fact that there are so many constraints on all possibilities just ensures the fact
that there is indeed no true

complicated sounding disease. Initially I felt confused and a bit doubtful. I asked the doctor over and
over again to make sure it was the correct diagnosis. Eventually I came to accept the fact that I have
Ventricular Tachycardia. Eventually, I was able to see that having this disease didn t have to be such a
negative thing; that it could help me on my path. I went back to volunteering and shadowing with a
new understanding. I was finally able to feel what the patients were going through, because I had gone
through something similar. The confusion, fear, doubt, anger. I finally felt like I had the capacity to
show empathy and understanding to patients and that medical school would help me to advance this
ability

Classics Should Be Taught In Australia Essay
There is no hiding the fact, classics can be a challenge to read: however, does that mean we should
just forget about them?. A modern teenager wouldn t know one of the most iconic Australian songs
Waltzing Matilda . For those that do recognize the song would most likely only be able to recite the
chores, the remaining verses will be a endless monotone mumble of confusion. Furthermore, not all of
Australia s classics are being lost as and enhanced number of children recognize dreamtime stories
rather than western culture as they are being taught in primary school. There are many things that can
distract students such as technology, technology has changed the world and it is reaching new limits as
I write. The advancements of technology does have negative effects on active students and their
schooling life. Countless students would rather watch Tv than read, However this doesn t mean
reading is dying as their is an abundance of children that love reading novels. Nonetheless classics do
not pose much of an intrest to teenages as they would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over all books are cherished by all ages and should be celebrated more throughout school as they can
broaden one s vocabulary and imagination. Classic are all around us however only so many of us can
see them, this number is growing dinner dramatically year by year. Australian Classics. When you
hear these what comes to mind? The Man from Snowy River perhaps, Waltzing Matilda or even Myles
Franklin? These names are getting abandon generation by generation. This fact is very alarming, we as
a nation have the option to bring the classics back into the curriculum or we could just simply watch
them get erased from our own culture. Bringing the classics back will help infuse the young minds of
Australia with the importance of the dying heritage that seems to be

The Evolution Of The Internet Radio
The evolution of music has taken exponential routes into our homes. The vast market for the
consumers who always like to have music playing have a variety of options to choose from. There is
the origin company of Pandora that has spearheaded the entire industry, as well as Spotify who has
reimagined the internet radio genre. Spotify is one of the top companies in today s society, including
its Premium version which offers discounts to students. Apple Music and Tidal are companies with
strong backgrounds, but are actually struggling to manifest some success in their revenues.
SoundCloud is a newer and more diverse music streaming site, since it allows the freedom of any
individual to upload their own music to the world and allowing anyone ... Show more content on

In this report, we examine the market for streaming music through the internet. I discuss five
successful companies and possible segments for each of them that solidify the growing market for
internet radio. Specifically, the customer segment of females who are teens to their early 20 s who are
mid to high class college students would be targeted from Spotify. The beginnings of the new service
have started less than a decade ago but has already been a huge factor of how people listen to their
music. Instead of buying physical, hard copies of an artist s album, people either buy the song digitally
or now use a specific software that will allow them to stream and listen to any song they want for free.
The use of applications on smartphones also aid in this world wide domination of internet radio.
Normally, the trial versions of this software will include advertisements by companies who pay the
streaming music companies. If someone has an aversion to all of the commercials, there is a monthly
payment subscription where no advertisements will interrupt the streaming of their music. One of the
most powerful forms of art and expression has gone digital. There is no secret that music can influence
millions. The music industry has always contributed to society s biggest icons and created revenues
that exceed lottery numbers. Key players of this new wave of streaming music would be Spotify,
Pandora, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and Tidal. These five

Alexsandro Palombo Essay
I also chose a picture of Disney princesses created by AleXsandro Palombo. There are a few reasons
he states that are the inspiration behind the images. The first being that he suffered paralyzation in
some parts of his body after surgeries to remove a rare cancer that he had. He is now disabled and
experiences what he says is discrimination and humiliation. He wants to create an awareness of this
problem. The next reason he gives is there are no Disney movies depicting a princess with a disability
and he believes that now is the time for Disney to consider creating a princess with a disability
because there are now more than ever so many people with disabilities. He wants Disney to get the
message that Disabled people have rights and are part of the world. I agree with what AleXsandro
Palombo says about Disney, they have not had any movies with a disabled princess and I believe now
is the time. Doing so could create a bridge between people with disabilities and people without. It
could create a tremendous positive outcome. Sure, you will have some people complain that it is not
acceptable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was shocked at this comment. I think that there would be a greater outcomes of positives than
negatives by creating a princess with a disability. I believe that Disney could create an acceptance and
understanding of people with disabilities. It would probably produce a greater confidence in younger
children with disabilities and less fear from people who aren t educated about disabilities. It could
create inclusion and tolerance the list is endless. Disney has the power to educate and bridge a gap
between people with disabilities and people without

Steinbeck follows a family of migrants moving westward during the Great Depression/Dust Bowl era, and chronicles their experiences as they live through overly inferior conditions. In Chapter Seventeen of the novel, Steinbeck discusses what life is like generally for migrant families as they journey out west. It becomes the norm for families to set up camp each night with other families and share their food and experiences. The migrants set up their own rules for their society and through these rules, the audience can understand how these people wish to be governed. The Importance of Accountability in the Army Essay examples The Importance of Accountability Is so you know where everyone is so if you need a person for something you will know where to find them. It is also necessary to have accountability to make sure everyone in your unit is safe and so you make sure they are where they are supposed to be. You also want your unit to be on standby so they are ready for anything that may happen. It is also needed so nobody goes UA. When you have accountability it is easier to track down people if you were to need them for anything. It is also to see if everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There many reasons why accountability is an important part of business. Showing up on time is a very important thing when it comes to work because if you ever show up late that would be time lost from the work day or the time you lost you could have been working on something but because you showed up late that task was never completed on time as needed. When something is not done it affects everything in the organization. If one thing isn t completed it affects all the other tasks like a chain reaction. Another reason accountability is needed is so you know where weapons are located. In leadership roles, accountability is the acknowledgment of responsibility for actions, decisions, and resulting consequences. Some of those consequences can be loss of pay, loss of rank, or loss of job. When you say you are going to get something done you are accountable of getting it done no matter what because you gave your word that you were going to get it done. Whenever you don t keep your word it makes everyone think you are not reliable. Then none of your peers will come to you for help because you will not be able to complete the task. Consequences when you do something wrong could mean that you can lose your job or just get a warning. Whenever you do something wrong it is possible to correct your mistake if it is possible to make a correction. The ways you can make a mistake when getting accountability is by not having an up to date muster ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Delivery Of Public Service There are mistakes, maladministration and misunderstanding that may occur during the delivery of public service in the United Kingdom (UK). The citizens have a right to complain if they feel aggrieved. There are many citizens who normally complain not only for their benefit but to ensure that the public service is improved so that it can cater for the needs of the citizens and so that the same mistakes are not inflicted on others. However, there are instances when the complaints are not resolved by the said service provider. In such an instance when an individual feels that the complaint has not been fully addressed by the government agency, department or National Health Service (NHS) in England, then that individual has a right of asking for the complaint to be referred to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) or the individual can personally refer the matter to the PHSO. This paper seeks to discuss the single reform of the PHSO that would best serve the interests of administrative justice. An Ombudsman may be defined as an officer appointed to investigate citizen s complaints against injustice or maladministration by public officials. The concept of the Ombudsman is anchored on the idea that citizens have a right of complaining against specific actions of omission or commission by public officials. The Ombudsman therefore has investigative powers vested on him and which include investigating the internal workings of departments or entire organization. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nonetheless, he left buildings and artwork that still exist today, and he had two biographers who provided information about his work, from these we can learn a lot about this Renaissance genius. Filippo Brunelleschi invented new technology for the dome and created far more advanced technology to help the dome be built. He began studying the science of motion and particular weights, wheels, and gears and it lead him to invent some of the first alarm clocks, as well as some of the equipment to raise the bricks from the ground to the roof (King, 13). In addition, Brunelleschi also made sure that the dome was being built to his standard and it was going to last a long time. For example, he inspected every one of the four million bricks that he was going to use for the structure. Another important quality of the dome was the mortar used to hold the bricks together. It was made by mixing sand and water with quicklime (King, 93). The quality of the bricks and mortar was only the beginning. He worked out how to set the bricks for the greatest strength to support the weight of the dome by having them set in a criss crossing herringbone pattern (Mueller, 84). The brickwork was crucial because the bricks needed to make up the dome without any outside support. In order to do this Brunelleschi linked the bricks in a spiral going up to the top, called a herringbone pattern. The vertical bricks acted as book ends to keep the horizontal bricks in place. The ll Duomo di Firenze was built to be an eight sided dome that stood taller and stronger than others during that time period. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Hobbesian and Machiavellian discourses in relation to the legitimacy of violence are distinct, nonetheless, bring forth significant arguments. Machiavelli claims that leaders ought to be good as long as the times permit, however, the leader with virtu ought to prepare to enter into evil when forced by necessity. Contrary to popular belief, Machiavelli does not endorse violence, rather he provides advice to those who wish to maintain their state or creation and in spite of the ravaging forces of time. The advice of Machiavelli is selective as it is geared to those who wish to maintain their state, not those preoccupied with salvation. In my understanding, Machiavelli advises that in order to maintain a political order, leaders ought to acquire virtu and not remain obstinate or operate with eternal principles. The Hobbesian account of the legitimacy of the use of violence is based on a notion of exceptionalism, which is the distinctive characteristic of the sovereign. Whereas Machiavelli appeals to effects, Hobbes defence of the legitimacy of violence is intrinsically necessary to the notion of sovereignty. However, in the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury portrays that technology, despite its benefits, has many significant flaws. The improper and overuse of technology in The Veldt causes the characters to forget how to live for themselves. The technology takes over their independence as well as their personal lives and relationships. In The Veldt , Ray Bradbury asserts that becoming reliant on technology causes a strain on family relations, and can be dangerous to the way one functions as a human, taking away one s purpose in life. To begin with, the Hadley family abuses the luxurious technology in their home, which leads to the replacement of love and real relationships to that of technology. The dynamic of the Hadley family is influenced by technology, and its overuse causes the hindrance of affection in the children s relationship with their parents. When psychologist David McClean comes to discuss the problematic African Veldt in the nursery, he realizes the root of the problem and says: You ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your children s affections (Bradbury 8). This quote conveys that as much as the children have fallen in love with their nursery, it is taking away the love they should have for their parents. Additionally, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, are replacing their parents with their beloved nursery, completely shutting out their parents as a whole. As David McClean further analyzes the children and the problems in their nursery, he exclaims that This room is their mother and father, far more important in their lives than their real parents (8). Wendy and Peter have made the relationship with their parents obsolete, as they now consider the nursery a substitute for their mom and dad. Overall, the Hadley children have completely replaced their parents with technology, displaying the cautions of technology straining familial relationships. Next, the Hadley s reliance on technology revolves around and takes over their daily lives, restricting the way they should be functioning as humans. The HappyLife home that the ... Minoja (2012) found that until 1824, the area now occupied by Santa Marta settlement is part of a farm owned by Francisco Jose Leite, Baron of Vassouras. In 1824 the land then passed to a second owner of the farm to the Baron of Macaubas. In 1920 began the growth of the nearby suburb of Copacabana and Botafogo, causing large amounts of development and thus increasing the need for workers. On Santa Marta hill, due to the construction of Santo Inacio church and college, many people migrated for the economic opportunities offered by the project and for the land in which to erect houses offered by the priests. This project lasted almost 30 years. The priest permitted the workers to erect their houses on Santa Marta hill, marking the beginning of this settlement. The first dwellings were built on the top section of the hill surrounded by the atlantic forest, one of the first being the chapel built by Jesuit priests consecrated to Santa Marta, in which the settlement is named after (Minoja, 2012, pg41). Between 1930 1940 many people migrated from other areas of Brazil, as a result over time the settlement densified and grew downwards towards the city. In 1940 approximately 31% of Brazil s population was living in urban areas and the first census was conducted of 14 favelas in Rio de Janeiro (Minoja, 2012). Ethnography In The History Of African-American Politics In the history of African American politics in this country there has always been some tension between speaking in universal terms and speaking in very race specific terms about the plight of the African American community (Williams, 2007). Ethnography is an analyzing technique used to document collected and studied information of a living person. Whereas, anthropology focuses on the how the person adapted over time and place. She was not too fond of people. The alternative was her liking to animals as they do not judge nor cause pain, just love for their human counterpart. She was known for having the will of iron because anything that she sets her mind too gets done without hesitation. This can be seen in her writing as one of her characters in the book never gave up trying to get what he wants. One of her favorite pass times was cooking in the kitchen to get away from the moors. This is an issue because kids would often be left alone without parents. Since the main character did not have any parents, he was raised cruelly. He was abused and mistreated by none relative and made him grow up to be a psychopath. The author did a great job on using symbols to help understand what the feeling and emotions are running through the characters minds. Many scenes were memorable. The first scene that caught my attention is the female and male first realize the love that they have for each other. The scene helped me understand what a nice moment it was for both of the characters. Heathcliff s love for Catherine is intense and he is very romantic and full of passion. She loves him as well and she considers themselves as one. She tells Nelly about this when she tells her about Edgar. When Catherine talks to Nelly about Edgar, they are in the kitchen. Breaking the painting down into four major points of representation is the best way to describe the thinking behind this piece. The first general section of the painting being the face. I gave her doll like features to draw in your eyes, all of the features making your eye wander to her eyes, the eyes are one of the most communicative parts of the face, and by adding longing, watery looking eyes, it communicates that she is struggling with something. The light accents of red around her eyes are to draw your eyes to hers and to represent how badly she wants to bury her brother s body, and the aftermath of her decision. ... • 38. The Effect Of Heat On The Transport And Removal Of... Effect of heat on the transport and removal of contaminants from soil 1. Introduction 1.1 Background Soil remediation has emerged as an important field in Applied Sciences due to its potential in environmental clean up of harmful chemicals and contaminants. Various incidents in the past like the deep water horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has raised an alarming question regarding how to protect the environments encountering such devastating effects and restore them to their original state. In this regard, researchers have put together their efforts coming from various disciplines to be able to find a solution for this challenging question. Soil forms an important asset of today s urban and rural population. Crops growing on fertile soils are important for feeding the millions around the globe. Accidental oil spills from water bodies and industries contaminate the soil in its vicinity. Also, pollution due to pesticides and insecticides have increasingly demanded soil clean up and restoration. Often we lay more emphasis on the role of biotic agents in remediation/ biodegradation but forget the important role that some physical effects have on the remediation of soils. This can be more advantageous and often is more effective in contaminant removal than other chemical or biological processes. The potential for using such an approach is clear in the fact that such methods are currently being used at some Superfund sites throughout the United States. They have been proven ... They both show that alienation is caused by external forces and both shows that these types of alienation, powerlessness and meaninglessness are mainly caused by society how it values money. The third text is a short film called Be My Brother by Geneueve Clay. The alienation present in this film, like the other texts, is caused by external forces. In contrast to the two texts, the film show the cause of this alienation is a stereotypical point of view towards the main character Richard. This causes Richard to be socially alienated throughout the film. There are also signs of cultural estrangement and family alienation. This is shown through the many camera techniques, such as close up of hand as gun and how it follows up Richards arm to his face, which has distinct Down syndrome features. • 45. Free Will Arguments Even thought the idea that everyone has free will is widely accepted and appreciated, it is obvious that by the very definition of the word free no such thing can exist. The idea that free will exists has been supported by several arguments against the idea that the everything in the world has been previously determined rather than arguments that are actually for the existence of free will. This is a very key point in the argument that free will has never and can never exist. If free will is not actually free then it cannot be considered free will. If free will isn t free will then it has never been free will and can never be free will. If there has never been and will never be free will, then we cannot have free will. Thus, we do not have free will. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main argument seems to be that we have free will because we have the choice to do one thing or another thing. This, however, is not freedom. Everyday I am made to think that I have the freedom to choose what I want to eat for lunch. When I arrive at the commons, I have a limited amount of options. At the Panini grill, I can choose between a turkey and cranberry Panini or a Caprese Panini. Do I really have the freedom to choose what Panini I want for lunch? No, I don t. I have a limited number of options meaning I have a limited freedom. If my freedom is limited, it is not free and therefore is not actual freedom. By definition, the word free implies without hindrance. In this sense, the only literal rather than applied sense of the word, freedom can be found nowhere. Humans are only free to do what their bodies and the laws of nature permit them to do. They are only free to speak in words that are available in the language and with sounds that their mouths limit. They are free to think only what the brain will let them. The fact that there are so many constraints on all possibilities just ensures the fact that there is indeed no true ...
