Le Villi Ipaccini Research Paper
Singing and the opinions of the human voice is a very subjective universe. What qualities make a
great or even a good voice? Why does one voice stand out over another? Even if I did not have life as
a singer, I would still believe that the human voice is a great marvel. Some singers find a musical
home based in the vocal categories of what the Germans call fach. In this system of classification,
singers are bound, in some places, by the roles and composers in this system. Where this classification
usually bears no flexibility is in the categories of Wagnerian voices. Simply, one is a Wagnerian or one
is not. Rarely does a singer exist who embodies all of the dramatic qualities as record for the work of
Wagner. One exceptional singer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a lineage of music dating back for over one hundred years it was expected that Puccini would
follow his musical roots. His works represent very distinct parts of his life. Early in his composition
journey he wrote Le Villi, the poorly received, but stunningly beautiful Edgar, and the regularly
produced Manon Lescaut. He went on to also set La Bohème, Tosca and Madama Butterfly. For the
majority of his career he was under contract by Ricordi. Following death of Ricordi in 1912 one
considered if this would also be the end of works by Puccini. He later followed with La Fanciulla del
West (based on David Belasco s play. Belasco also wrote the original play for with Madama Butterfly
is based.) La Rondine, Il Tabarro, Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi and his final opera Turandot. As a
leading composer of the romantic and early part of the modern era, German Richard Strauss is known
for his highly dramatic and intense operas. Strauss work seems to be, along with Gustav Mahler, the
ultimate representation and evolution of German Romanticism developed by Richard Wagner. Known
for some unbelievable staggering orchestral music and lieder, Strauss operas included Der
Rosenkavalier, Elektra, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Ariadne

Zapata Class Divide
The Mexican muralist movement produced artwork on walls that defined the social and political
atmosphere of Mexico. Diego Rivera was an innovator in the muralist movement that helped depict
the Mexican Revolution for its violence and demand for equality among the lower class (Gonzales 240
45). Rivera s painting, Agrarian Leader Zapata, exemplifies the hardships of the revolution through a
group of rebel, lower class farmers led by Emiliano Zapata who is standing over a dead, elite soldier.
Agrarian Leader Zapata, utilizes the contrast of the soldiers, the focus on Zapata, and symbolism to
convey the idea that the class divide was the root of violence and the outbreak of the Mexican
Revolution. Rivera uses aesthetic disparities the farmers and the soldier to illustrate the class divide
present in Mexico. Rivera exhibits class divide, notably through the clothing and weaponry of the
figures. Rivera uses clothing to convey the motivations of the farmers. The farmers wear white while
the soldier wears a traditional dark, military uniform. The contrast of the white clothing of the farmers
and dark clothing of the soldier shows the farmers were pure and ... Show more content on

Despite symbolizing freedom, the horse raises the question; is the horse the soldier s or Zapata s? This
then questions the integrity of the farmers because is killing and stealing justifiable if it is the name of
equality? These questions expand the symbolism of the horse to a symbol for the bridge of equality
between the elite and the poor. This emphasizes that equality in Mexico will be violent if not given
and implies that the sharing of material items and social status will aid in reaching an egalitarian
society. The horse in the painting is important to the class divide in the Mexican Revolution because it
reveals the violence and the societal gap between the upper and lower

Hepatitis B And Its Effects
Hepatitis B is a genuine liver disease created by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). For some individuals,
hepatitis B contamination gets to be incessant, which means it keeps going over six months. Having
unending hepatitis B builds your danger of creating liver disappointment, liver disease or cirrhosis
which is a condition that causes lasting scarring of the liver. A great number of people contaminated
with hepatitis B as grown ups recuperate completely, regardless of the possibility that their signs and
side effects are extreme. Babies and youngsters will probably build up a ceaseless hepatitis B
contamination (MayoClinic).
Hepatitis C contamination additionally expands the danger of creating liver disease just like hepatitis
B. Until the 1980 s, hepatitis C virus (HCV) was known as non A non B hepatitis. The underlying
disease may have side effects, yet a critical number of individuals don t have side effects. Not at all
like hepatitis B, in which the ailment does not frequently get to be constant, have around 80% of
individuals with hepatitis C built up an endless disease. As the invulnerable framework keeps on
assaulting the infection after some time, fibrosis grows, in the end prompting cirrhosis. This unending
aggravation can likewise prompt liver growth. This infection is spread through tainted blood, for

Advantages Of Helical Spring
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1.1 Helical Spring
Helical spring is defined as an elastic body, whose function is to distort when loaded and to recover its
original shape when the load is removed. The helical springs are made up of a wire coiled in the form
of a helix and are primarily intended for compressive or tensile loads. The cross section of the wire
from which the spring is made may be circular, square or rectangular. Helical compression springs
have applications to resist applied compression forces or in the push mode, store energy to provide the
push . Different forms of compression springs are produced. The helical springs are said to be closely

Allusions In O Brother Where Art Thou
Some movies have strong connections to famous books, epics, or myths. Often times, there will be
many strong allusions to different epics, but there will be few weak allusions. In Joel and Ethan Coen
s O Brother Where Art Thou, The movie has strong allusion with the plot, hero qualities, and the
minor characters of The Odyssey,
O brother Where Art Thou has strong allusion with the minor characters of the Odyssey. For example,
in the movie, Everett and his men meet a blind traveler who tells them about their journey ahead. This
shows a strong allusion to The Odyssey as Odysseus and his men meet a blind foreteller named
Tiresias. Tiresias tells them about the different issues occurring at home and how to reach Ithaca.
Another example is that, in the movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also prayed to god. This shows a strong allusion to The Odyssey, as Odysseus faced a one eyed
cyclops named Polyphemus, who started eating his men. After Odysseus beat him, the cyclops prayed
to his father, Poseidon to bring about hardship to Odysseus. Lastly, in the movie O brother Where Art
Thou, a man named Vernon was trying to marry Penny. When Everett saw this, he started attacking
Vernon. This shows an allusion to The Odyssey, as many suitors tried to marry Penelope when
Odysseus was gone. Once Odysseus came back, he started fighting with the other suitors.
O brother Art Thou also has strong allusions with the plot of the Odyssey. For example, in the movie
O brother Where Art Thou, Delmar wanted to stay in the Baptist rive, because he was attracted to the
river and felt like he was relieved when he dipped his head. Everett, however, forced Delmar to get
out of the water and continue their journey. This shows an allusion to The Odyssey, as Odysseus had
to force his men away from the Lotus eaters. Some of his men ate lotus, which made them relieved of
their problems and want to stay there for the

Audio Engineering Career
As audio engineers it is our duty to bring the highest quality audio to all of our projects. These can
range from studio recording, radio, TV, movies, games, forensic audio and what we will be going
through in detail, live sound. Any form of live event, be it a rock band s concert, orchestral
performance, stage play or even live sports events will need some form of sound reinforcement. Sound
reinforcement consists of an arrangement of microphones, signal processing, mixing, amps and loud
speakers to reinforce the sound of an event, ensuring that all members of the audience have the best
auditory experience and can clearly and adequately hear all audio evolved in the event.

Being able to communicate well is vital as there are many people involved in a live performance and
the audio has to work in conjunction with many other aspects of the the show. The engineer has to
communicate with not only the auido team but also the managers of the venue, the musicians, punters,
lighting teams and security. By having the ability to engage and communicate each of their specific
needs can be met. Does a musician have a specific instrument set up that they desire? Are the certain
venue regulations that have to be upheld? Clear communication means that questions such as these get

The Great Lakes Region
The Huron were a First Nations people around what is currently known as the Great Lakes region. The
Jesuits, a group of French Catholic missionaries, voyaged to various parts of the St. Lawrence region.
With that, the Jesuit missions of Huronia are significant in understanding the history of Huronia,
Catholic conversions of First Nations, the epidemics that ravaged many Aboriginal peoples, and the
displacement of the Huron. There were considerable effects of the Jesuit missions, including economic
benefits for the French and the Huron, differences and similarities among the two cultures, and the
devastating epidemics among the First Nations. This essay argues that the Jesuit missions of Huronia

By the 1620s, the Huron French economic alliance was strong and benefitted both partners. As this
economic partnership progressed, the Huron people allowed the French to send Catholic priests to
Huronia as a part of the Counter Reformation movement of this time, in which the French aimed to
root out corruption in the Catholic Church as Christianity split along irreconcilable differences among
Catholics and Protestants. Firstly, the Recollet missionaries voyaged to the Huron area to convert
Aboriginal peoples to Catholicism and French values. However, due to financial issues, the Recollets
worked with the Jesuits from 1625 to 1629, who were wealthy and dominant, whose mission was to
convert non Christians throughout the world. Moreover, in 1634, the French Huron alliance was
renewed as the Huron people reluctantly allowed the French missionaries to live among them in
Huronia. However, the Huron people were apprehensive of the Jesuits as there had been a
considerable loss of life after various European diseases were introduced to them. The Jesuits exerted
considerable effort in their missions in Huronia. Firstly, as these distinct cultures closely interacted
with each other, a relationship required the building of cooperation and communication. That is, the
Jesuits stressed the importance of learning the Huron

Characters In Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms
During World War I, the Allies and Central Powers fought a long and grueling war. Ernest Hemingway
served in WWI as an ambulance driver and did not have a pedestrian life. Hemingway wrote the book
Farewell to Arms based on his time in WWI. In A Farewell to Arms, the main character Frederic
Henry is fighting in the Italian army; however, he is an American. During his time in the war, Henry
meets a woman named Catherine Barkley and pursues a complex, quasi relationship at first. After
some time Henry and Catherine s relationship deepens as they spend more time together. Throughout
the book, many heavy themes are discussed: appearances, uselessness, and identity. In Hemingway s
Farewell to Arms, he teaches the lesson that appearances can affect the way other people judge others.
Hemingway shows the use of appearances when Catherine worries about her appearance throughout
the book and worries about the criticism she will receive. While at the hospital, Cathrine says, but I
will. I ll say just what you wish and I ll do what you wish and then you will never want any other girls,
will you? She looked at me very happily. I ll do what you want and say what you want and then I ll be
a great success, won t I? (82). Catherine worries that Henry will compare her to the other women that
he has stayed with. Catherine wishes to be the best woman that he has ever had and will do anything
to satisfy Henry s carnal, erotic hunger. Catherine keeps referring back to her

Abstract: the open nature of the wireless medium leaves it vulnerable to drive or wedge packets
forcibly into a tight position referred as squeeze. This intentional interference with wireless
transmissions can be used as a launch pad for mounting Denial of Service attacks on wireless
networks typically; squeeze has been addressed under an external threat model. However, person with
depth knowledge of internet protocol specifications and network secrets can launch low effort squeeze
attacks that are difficult to detect and counter. In these attacks, the adversary is active only for a short
period of time, selectively targeting messages of high importance. We illustrate the advantages of
selective squeeze in terms of network performance degradation and adversary effort by presenting two
case studies; a selective attack on TCP and one on routing. In this work, we address the problem of
selective squeeze attacks in wireless networks. We show that selective squeeze attacks can be
launched by performing real time packet classification at the physical layer. To reduce these attacks,
we develop three schemes that prevent real time packet classification by combining cryptographic
primitives with physical layer attributes. We

Figurative Language In Stephen King s On Writing
1.
Many skilled authors use literary elements and techniques in their stories; for example, imagery,
dialogue, and figurative language. Not only do these authors use this devices, they use them correctly.
Stephen King, the author of On Writing and many other novels, uses these a lot throughout his novels.
Figurative language and imagery plays a huge role in developing King s novel. The
Rag s office was a table located in the dirt floored, rock walled, spider infested confines of our
basement, somewhere north of the furnace and east of the root cellar, where Clayt and Ella s endless
cartons of preserves and canned vegetables were kept (pg. 42). The author uses great imagery in this
passage in which he is describing the area where his brother worked. This is effective because it
allows the reader to envision the workspace. Grammar is not just a pain in the ass; it s the pole you
grab to get your thoughts up on their feet and walking (pg. 121). This is a metaphor, which is the
comparison of two things by just stating that one thing is the other.
Another example of this would be, Plot is a far bigger tool, the writer s jackhammer (pg. 164).
In the first example, grammar is being compared to a pole that a writer grabs hold of. In the second
sentence, King is comparing plot to a jackhammer, and it is effective to get the point across and
explain the things, grammar and plot in these examples, in an interesting way. In the first sentence,
there is also an example of

Queer Representation Of All Age Media Essay
Queer Representation in All Age Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s
and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media
I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in
hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something
negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected
exactly how homosexuality was portrayed in media at the time. Queer characters and homosexuality
were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst,
something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly reads comics, watches
Saturday morning cartoons and play video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of progress
that has been made in queer representation in all age media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and
lows of LGBTQ representation in all age media and highlight the positive and negative impact of
media representation. Before we can look forward, we must look back at queer representation of the
past. The late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly researched the evolution of queer representation
in cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet. In both the book and its documentary of the
same name, Russo details the earliest portrayal of homosexuality in

Early Childhood Special Education has come so far in the last decade and that is thanks to different

Theme Of Wait And Hope In The Count Of Monte Cristo
The Count of Monte Cristo, written by Alexandre Dumas, is an adventure novel published in 1844 in
France which gained worldwide popularity for its universal themes. Dumas incorporated themes of
moral justice, ultimate happiness, and hope. These themes are apparent throughout this novel, where
the main character Edmond Dantes, or The Count of Monte Cristo, takes justice into his own hands,
and plays God to get his vengeance on those who have wronged him. In the following essay I will
analyze the true meaning of wait and hope found in this novel. Edmond Dantes had an extremely
successful young life, he was engaged, he was about to be captain of a ship, and he was quite popular
all before the age of 20. Unfortunately, who he thought were his friends were envious of all his
success. Fernand Mondego was in love with his fiance Mercedes, his cohort Danglars wanted to have
the success that he had for himself, and Caderousse was jealous of him as well. Together, the trio
destroyed his life by putting him in prison to steal everything good away from him. Danglars created
the plot to frame Dantès for treason, Fernand mailed the letter they constructed, and Villefort sent the
Count to jail only to protect his own father and himself. Dantes spent fourteen years in prison, but in
this time he grew up and discovered his true values with the help of his greatest mentor and jail
neighbor Abbe Faria. He became a teacher to him during their several years as prisoners, and he taught

Gender, Transgender, And Queer Essay
As a nation, the United States often views itself as a champion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
and queer (LGBTQ) rights. While we are far ahead of many countries, quite a few of which still
criminalize same sex relationships, we aren t the queer utopia we like to see ourselves as. Even today,
there are many states within the US that do not have laws explicitly prohibiting discrimination based
on sexual orientation in the workplace or during the hiring process. According to the Human Rights
Campaign s website, there are currently sixteen states that have no statewide employment laws
protecting the rights of queer and/or trans individuals in the workplace. An even larger number of
states have no laws protecting LGBTQ from housing discrimination. Since same sex marriage was
legalized in June 2015, many people feel as though the fight for equal rights is over. However, what
people tend to forget about, are the dozens of macro and microaggressions queer people still face in
many cities, towns, and states throughout the country. Not only are LGBT people in the United States
still subject to discrimination in educational institutions and in hiring practices, but these
discriminatory acts are highly regionalized. In 2011, the Gay, Lesbian Straight Education Network
(GLSEN) conducted the The National School Climate Survey, which aimed to report the prevalence of
homophobic and transphobic language in schools across the country. Not surprisingly, the study
reported that

The Role Of Cybersecurity And Its Effects On The World
Cybersecurity Cybersecurity has only been around for a short time. In the short time it s been around,
it s gone from a simple application process in security, to one of the most complicated things to get
right in order to protect the internet. In the late 80 s the very first computer worm was created by
Robert Morris. He released it into the internet in the early 90 s. With it, he shut down large portions of
the internet. (Infosecurity Magazine) Back then, the internet didn t play a large role in everyone s
lives, as it does today. But with that breach, it alerted people that we needed to come up with
something to keep that from happening again, hence cybersecurity was born. Since then, cybersecurity
has only become more complicated, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the career requirements. The minimum requirements for this job is actually rather easy to

anything, so a bachelor s or master s degree in cybersecurity is unnecessary if you have appropriate
job experience. (Cyber Degrees) Since it doesn t take a college degree, it only takes about two or four
years of experience in the field to achieve this position. If you do take a college route, it ll be 4 6 years
in college plus the 2 4 years of security experience. The education costs will vary, as there are several
ways to learn. Some teach themselves how to code, others use training courses on the internet. I have
also found Metasploit: A Penetration Tester s Guide, a book that is great for beginners to pick up and
learn the basic skills to help get them started in the field. Such as how to create your own modules, or
how to port your own exploits to a server s framework. (David Kennedy) Many security companies
and even individual penetration testers or network/systems technicians will create their own labs in
which they can configure and reconfigure

Comparing Roland Marchand The Advertisers Of The 1920s And...
Using close readings of the advertisements themselves as well as extensive information on the
marketing and advertising industries, Roland Marchand argues that the advertisers of the 1920s and
1930s worked both as advice givers about the problems of modernity. His analysis is divided into
three sections: the advertising industry, advertising as visual culture. Using three examples, Marchand
illustrates why the early twenties were a turning point in advertising. The reason being the shift in the
ads themselves from being product centered to consumer centered, where the product is a solution to a
consumer problem.
Marchand notes the patronizing attitude of the admen to mostly female consumers even as they
worked to connect with them. However,

Description Of The Mid Length Design
Using these forms and various finishes will have you become the go to stylist for the long hair client.
Women who prefer to wear their hair long tend to shy away from salons because they fear having the
hair cut too short. Showing that you understand and have the knowledge to give them what they want
will get them to trust in you and your ability.
THE MID LENGTH DESIGN
Probably the most versatile length is the mid length design. This section will give the basic form, and
many adaptations and finishes.
Shampoo and condition the hair as usual. You will be using your honed edge shears for a wet cut.
Remember to continue to dampen the hair as you work through a wet cut, as we spoke about for
consistency. It bears repeating to have the client ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Take the sides over and behind the ear and sculpt even with the side back sections. The sides are also
cut at 0˚, or low projection. So far, we have just established the form. At this point, the hair should be
blown dry to examine its personality. Notice, we have purposefully left additional length at the sides.
This allows for shrinkage. We can always go back and trim shorter, if necessary. Once the hair is
dried, you will see that there is one smooth line from the center back to the sides. Any trimming can
be done now. The reason for this care is that the Mastoid bones cause the hair to split behind the ear;
and the Parietal bones can cause a lift in the same area. By creating more weight in this area, we can
successfully offset these natural tendencies. We are sure that you have seen poorly performed bobs
walking around.
Now, we need to work on the internal variations. If the design demands an all one length middle and
inner perimeters, you will still need to give some texture, internally, to these areas. Part off the top
layer of the head. Vertically section 1 panels and use the blenders at least 2 times on each section. For
a stronger texture of hair, you may wish to use your feather razor to remove some bulk from these
areas, while the hair is still wet. Again, because short hair pushes long hair , the design will have
bounce and action when dried; but still maintain a smooth finish on the surface.
One variation that is popular is termed the layered

Essay about Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern...
Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are Dead, a humorous piece of self reflexive theater that draws upon Shakespeare s
Hamlet as the source of the story. The actual device of self reflexive theater is used so well in
Stoppard s play that it reads like the love child of a play and a compelling critical essay. The play is
academic yet conversationally phrased and it deepens our understanding of the original play but also
criticizes it. The aspect of self reflexive theater is used to comment on theater itself but also as a
presentation of ideas and analysis that had previously had no place on the plot centric set up of stage
and audience. The essay Rosencrantz and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

up: your father, whom you love, dies, you are his heir, you come back to find that hardly was the

both legal and natural practice. Now why exactly are you behaving in this extraordinary manner?
GUIL. I can t imagine!
Stoppard is commentating on Shakespeare s writing, by portraying onstage the ignorance that is
required of the characters for the original plot of Hamlet to work. The meat of the scene isn t to insult
the duo, but for the critically inclined audience to analyze the sort of logical leaps we take in order to
participate in a narrative. The traditional outlet for such observations were academic journals and
essays but Stoppard is exhibits these ideas onstage for a mass audience. The Player exemplifies my
point (bloated and wriggling as it is) of the unique space that Stoppard is trying to occupy with the
play. The Player is at once detached and involved in the happenings onstage (textual evidence? How

Virginia Woolf s Of Human Bondage
Of Human Bondage is, as we all know, written from Philip s point of view, and therefore we
sympathize with Philip, care about what goes on his life, and even feel attached to him. But, if the
story had been written from say, Mildred s point of view, we may not feet the same about Philip.
Chances are, his characterization would be completely different because of how Mildred views him,
and we would probably grow to dislike Philip as much as we learned to dislike Mildred. Many have
heard the saying, history is written by the winners, meaning we more commonly sympathize with the
winners because it is they who got to tell the story, and we learn to dislike the opposing side, the way
we dislike the British of the Revolutionary, the way we dislike ... Show more content on

We would have been able to understand her thoughts about Philip, her odd distaste for him, how she
genuinely felt about the German man she left Philip for. We may view Philip in a different light, as a
weak, easily manipulated man, or as a man who didn t care, didn t understand her situation. While we
would still, most likely, see the faults in Mildred, the way we did with Philip, we would probably
think of them in a kinder way. After all, we all disliked Mildred when she left Philip, who clearly
loved her, to be with the German man. Yet, is that not what Philip did do Nora, who really did love
him? The two characters have many similarities, yet we view one as good, and one as bad. Both raised
by people other than their parents, both concerned with money, both easily distracted, both in love
just, not necessarily with each other. They both turned to others for money when they were struggling;
Philip wishing his uncle would die, Mildred begging Philip for help. Neither of these characters are
exactly good people, but they are seen as opposing forces of good versus evil. It is in this way that,
through perspective, we choose who are the good people, and who are the bad. If Of Human Bondage

distribution (upper right), and the United States (bottom). Pie charts depict the percentage of wealth
possessed by each quintile; for instance, in the United States, the top wealth quintile owns 84% of the

Americans Prefer Sweden
For the first task, we created three unlabeled pie charts of wealth distributions, one of which depicted
a perfectly equal distribution of wealth. Unbeknownst to respondents, a second distribution reflected
the wealth distribution in the United
States; in order to create a distribution with a level of inequality that clearly fell in between these two
charts, we constructed a third pie chart from the income distribution of Sweden

The Role Of Perfectionism In Eating Disorders
When perfectionist behaviour can be considered as a state that is under conscious control, it can be
deemed as merely a healthy desire to excel (Eusanio, Thomson, and Jaque, 2014). However, if
perfectionism is a personality trait, it cannot be consciously controlled and has been proven to show
positive correlations with mental illness such as anxiety and depression (Enns and Cox, 2002, cited in
Stoeber, Otto, and Dalbert, 2009b). Self oriented perfectionism in dancers and a fear of failure can
lead to injury, depression, and other psychological disorders such as anxiety and possible eating

Obstacles In A Midsummer Night s Dream

Advantages of steel
Steel beam is given a mass that is capable of resisting much higher stresses without fracture than an
equivalent mass of wood or stone. It is very strong in terms of strength and is resistant to corrosion.
Stainless steel can be manufactured such way to be extremely resistant to rust and corrosion. Stainless
steel is a mix of steel and chromium. Thus, it has a much longer life expectancy.
Cost
Steel costs very little compared with other metals. This, combined with its other mechanical and
chemical attributes, contributes significantly to the popularity of steel beams as a construction
material.

Areas of concern

In an effort to rise to the customers expectations of superior customer service, a cross reference

Assessment Criteria for Performance enhancement
The following are the suggested criteria in assessing the performance of airlines:
1. Operational accuracy. The planes departure and arrival times must be closely monitored in order to
maintain accuracy and adjust any unnecessary delays. Time is of the essence to the majority of
travelers, their travel plans are well thought out in advance and accuracy needs to be of the utmost

financially. I won t lie it was stung for a bit realizing that I lived two houses away from my father and
he didn t even bother to stop by just to see how I was doing. I was working so hard in school so that

Flight Patterns And A Pair Of Tickets
Comparison of Identity Crisis in Flight Patterns by Sherman Alexie and A Pair of Tickets by Amy Tan
Sherman Alexie s Flight Patterns from Ten Little Indians and Amy Tan s A Pair of Tickets from Joy
Luck Club share a common theme of searching for identity. Each of these short stories is about
multicultural characters having trouble finding how they belong in their communities and cultures.
Unlike people who live in their mother country or come from one specific race, multiracial people
have to figure out how to balance the culture of where they live and the culture of their ancestors. This
confusion over identity is the main cause of strife for William in Flight Patterns and Jing Mei Woo in
A Pair of Tickets. While Jing Mei struggles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remembering conversations she had with her mother, Jing Mei notes, I think about what my mother
said, about activating my genes and becoming Chinese. And I wonder what she meant. Right after my
mother died, I asked myself a lot of things... to force myself to grieve more. But now I ask the
questions mostly because I want to know the answers (Tan, 270 71). She feels as though it is too late
to have closure with her mother, putting a strain on her relationship with the rest of her family. Bella
Adams discusses these problems in relationships between generation gaps in Identity in difference: Re
generating Debate about Intergenerational Relationships in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club. Adams
agrees that relationships between mother and daughter are difficult but vital to understanding one s
identity. In Diasporic Self, Cultural Other: Negotiating Ethnicity through Transformation in the
Fiction of Tan and Kingston Li Zeng notes, The assurance of self definition through connecting with
her cultural roots is Jing Mei Woo s resolution to her ethnic dilemma (7). When Jin Mei is staying in
the hotel she says she finally feels what her mother meant by activating her genes and becoming
Chinese (Tan, 270). She does not feel this sort of primal connection to her Chinese culture until she is
immersed in it. Because of this immersion she realizes how distant she has kept

Abu Na Im Al-Asfahanis Beauty Of The Righteous
One of the most challenging problems I encountered this semester was reconciling the inconsistency
within the Sufi textual tradition between the hagiographies of the early Sufi masters, who practiced a
form of renunciation that was characterized by the unfettered relinquishment of all possessions, social
relations, and familial duties, and the instruction manuals of the developing systematization of Sufism,
which no longer required its students and masters to engage in such rigorous renunciation but instead
substituted more moderate and socially acceptable forms of renunciation. On the one hand, Abu Na im
al Asfahani (d. 429/1038), author of Beauty of the Righteous, refers to a group of renunciants named
ahl al Suffa, as the apotheosis of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, conceptually, scholars of Islam should stay away from understanding zuhd as asceticism. While
asceticism as a category may seem unproblematic for scholars of Early Christianity, Islamic Studies
scholars are studying different religious contexts and worldviews that should be analyzed without the
weight and baggage of the English and Christian term asceticism. Many of the concepts associated
with asceticism that were mentioned above do not integrate neatly into the Islamic worldview nor they
embody the practices of zuhd. I contend that thinking of zuhd generally as renunciation instead of
asceticism allows for much greater malleability within the various traditions of Islamic renunciation
that do not conform to the ascetic (Christian) standard. Second, I argue that renunciation as zuhd has
not had one particular meaning or one specific mode of praxis throughout Islamic history and that the
clash of zuhd archetypes has been a hallmark of Sufism since its nascent days in the desert until its
most recent struggles in the modern era. The Islamic renunciant can be both the wandering outcast,
who prays to God in solitude away from society, and the active socialite, who maintains an occupation
and possesses a family. Overall, I hope this essay helps other readers and scholars of Sufism overcome
the same mental roadblock I possessed in regards to asceticism, renunciation, and

  • 2. Le Villi Ipaccini Research Paper Singing and the opinions of the human voice is a very subjective universe. What qualities make a great or even a good voice? Why does one voice stand out over another? Even if I did not have life as a singer, I would still believe that the human voice is a great marvel. Some singers find a musical home based in the vocal categories of what the Germans call fach. In this system of classification, singers are bound, in some places, by the roles and composers in this system. Where this classification usually bears no flexibility is in the categories of Wagnerian voices. Simply, one is a Wagnerian or one is not. Rarely does a singer exist who embodies all of the dramatic qualities as record for the work of Wagner. One exceptional singer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a lineage of music dating back for over one hundred years it was expected that Puccini would follow his musical roots. His works represent very distinct parts of his life. Early in his composition journey he wrote Le Villi, the poorly received, but stunningly beautiful Edgar, and the regularly produced Manon Lescaut. He went on to also set La Bohème, Tosca and Madama Butterfly. For the majority of his career he was under contract by Ricordi. Following death of Ricordi in 1912 one considered if this would also be the end of works by Puccini. He later followed with La Fanciulla del West (based on David Belasco s play. Belasco also wrote the original play for with Madama Butterfly is based.) La Rondine, Il Tabarro, Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi and his final opera Turandot. As a leading composer of the romantic and early part of the modern era, German Richard Strauss is known for his highly dramatic and intense operas. Strauss work seems to be, along with Gustav Mahler, the ultimate representation and evolution of German Romanticism developed by Richard Wagner. Known for some unbelievable staggering orchestral music and lieder, Strauss operas included Der Rosenkavalier, Elektra, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Ariadne ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Zapata Class Divide The Mexican muralist movement produced artwork on walls that defined the social and political atmosphere of Mexico. Diego Rivera was an innovator in the muralist movement that helped depict the Mexican Revolution for its violence and demand for equality among the lower class (Gonzales 240 45). Rivera s painting, Agrarian Leader Zapata, exemplifies the hardships of the revolution through a group of rebel, lower class farmers led by Emiliano Zapata who is standing over a dead, elite soldier. Agrarian Leader Zapata, utilizes the contrast of the soldiers, the focus on Zapata, and symbolism to convey the idea that the class divide was the root of violence and the outbreak of the Mexican Revolution. Rivera uses aesthetic disparities the farmers and the soldier to illustrate the class divide present in Mexico. Rivera exhibits class divide, notably through the clothing and weaponry of the figures. Rivera uses clothing to convey the motivations of the farmers. The farmers wear white while the soldier wears a traditional dark, military uniform. The contrast of the white clothing of the farmers and dark clothing of the soldier shows the farmers were pure and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite symbolizing freedom, the horse raises the question; is the horse the soldier s or Zapata s? This then questions the integrity of the farmers because is killing and stealing justifiable if it is the name of equality? This intentional interference with wireless transmissions can be used as a launch pad for mounting Denial of Service attacks on wireless networks typically; squeeze has been addressed under an external threat model. However, person with depth knowledge of internet protocol specifications and network secrets can launch low effort squeeze attacks that are difficult to detect and counter. In these attacks, the adversary is active only for a short period of time, selectively targeting messages of high importance. We illustrate the advantages of selective squeeze in terms of network performance degradation and adversary effort by presenting two case studies; a selective attack on TCP and one on routing. In this work, we address the problem of selective squeeze attacks in wireless networks. We show that selective squeeze attacks can be launched by performing real time packet classification at the physical layer. To reduce these attacks, we develop three schemes that prevent real time packet classification by combining cryptographic primitives with physical layer attributes. We ... • 14. Figurative Language In Stephen King s On Writing 1. Many skilled authors use literary elements and techniques in their stories; for example, imagery, dialogue, and figurative language. Not only do these authors use this devices, they use them correctly. Stephen King, the author of On Writing and many other novels, uses these a lot throughout his novels. Figurative language and imagery plays a huge role in developing King s novel. The Rag s office was a table located in the dirt floored, rock walled, spider infested confines of our basement, somewhere north of the furnace and east of the root cellar, where Clayt and Ella s endless cartons of preserves and canned vegetables were kept (pg. 42). The author uses great imagery in this passage in which he is describing the area where his brother worked. This is effective because it allows the reader to envision the workspace. Grammar is not just a pain in the ass; it s the pole you grab to get your thoughts up on their feet and walking (pg. 121). This is a metaphor, which is the comparison of two things by just stating that one thing is the other. Another example of this would be, Plot is a far bigger tool, the writer s jackhammer (pg. 164). In the first example, grammar is being compared to a pole that a writer grabs hold of. In the second sentence, King is comparing plot to a jackhammer, and it is effective to get the point across and explain the things, grammar and plot in these examples, in an interesting way. Queer Representation Of All Age Media Essay Queer Representation in All Age Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected exactly how homosexuality was portrayed in media at the time. Queer characters and homosexuality were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst, something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly reads comics, watches Saturday morning cartoons and play video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of progress that has been made in queer representation in all age media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all age media and highlight the positive and negative impact of media representation. Before we can look forward, we must look back at queer representation of the past. Theme Of Wait And Hope In The Count Of Monte Cristo The Count of Monte Cristo, written by Alexandre Dumas, is an adventure novel published in 1844 in France which gained worldwide popularity for its universal themes. Dumas incorporated themes of moral justice, ultimate happiness, and hope. These themes are apparent throughout this novel, where the main character Edmond Dantes, or The Count of Monte Cristo, takes justice into his own hands, and plays God to get his vengeance on those who have wronged him. In the following essay I will analyze the true meaning of wait and hope found in this novel. Edmond Dantes had an extremely successful young life, he was engaged, he was about to be captain of a ship, and he was quite popular all before the age of 20. Unfortunately, who he thought were his friends were envious of all his success. Fernand Mondego was in love with his fiance Mercedes, his cohort Danglars wanted to have the success that he had for himself, and Caderousse was jealous of him as well. Together, the trio destroyed his life by putting him in prison to steal everything good away from him. Danglars created the plot to frame Dantès for treason, Fernand mailed the letter they constructed, and Villefort sent the Count to jail only to protect his own father and himself. Women who prefer to wear their hair long tend to shy away from salons because they fear having the hair cut too short. Showing that you understand and have the knowledge to give them what they want will get them to trust in you and your ability. THE MID LENGTH DESIGN Probably the most versatile length is the mid length design. This section will give the basic form, and many adaptations and finishes. Shampoo and condition the hair as usual. You will be using your honed edge shears for a wet cut. Remember to continue to dampen the hair as you work through a wet cut, as we spoke about for consistency. It bears repeating to have the client ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Take the sides over and behind the ear and sculpt even with the side back sections. The sides are also cut at 0˚, or low projection. So far, we have just established the form. At this point, the hair should be blown dry to examine its personality. Notice, we have purposefully left additional length at the sides. This allows for shrinkage. We can always go back and trim shorter, if necessary. Once the hair is dried, you will see that there is one smooth line from the center back to the sides. Any trimming can be done now. The reason for this care is that the Mastoid bones cause the hair to split behind the ear; and the Parietal bones can cause a lift in the same area. By creating more weight in this area, we can successfully offset these natural tendencies. We are sure that you have seen poorly performed bobs walking around. Now, we need to work on the internal variations. If the design demands an all one length middle and inner perimeters, you will still need to give some texture, internally, to these areas. Part off the top layer of the head. Vertically section 1 panels and use the blenders at least 2 times on each section. For a stronger texture of hair, you may wish to use your feather razor to remove some bulk from these areas, while the hair is still wet. Again, because short hair pushes long hair , the design will have bounce and action when dried; but still maintain a smooth finish on the surface. Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, a humorous piece of self reflexive theater that draws upon Shakespeare s Hamlet as the source of the story. The actual device of self reflexive theater is used so well in Stoppard s play that it reads like the love child of a play and a compelling critical essay. The play is academic yet conversationally phrased and it deepens our understanding of the original play but also criticizes it. The aspect of self reflexive theater is used to comment on theater itself but also as a presentation of ideas and analysis that had previously had no place on the plot centric set up of stage and audience. To sum up: your father, whom you love, dies, you are his heir, you come back to find that hardly was the corpse cold before his young brother popped onto the throne and into his sheets, thereby offending both legal and natural practice. Now why exactly are you behaving in this extraordinary manner? GUIL. I can t imagine! Stoppard is commentating on Shakespeare s writing, by portraying onstage the ignorance that is required of the characters for the original plot of Hamlet to work. The meat of the scene isn t to insult the duo, but for the critically inclined audience to analyze the sort of logical leaps we take in order to participate in a narrative. The traditional outlet for such observations were academic journals and essays but Stoppard is exhibits these ideas onstage for a mass audience. The Player exemplifies my point (bloated and wriggling as it is) of the unique space that Stoppard is trying to occupy with the play. The Player is at once detached and involved in the happenings onstage (textual evidence? How about on page 25 when Guildenstern and the Player discuss fate. Guildenstern asks Yours [fate] or ours? The Player answers It could hardly be one without the other ). The Player, in my opinion, diffuses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Virginia Woolf s Of Human Bondage Of Human Bondage is, as we all know, written from Philip s point of view, and therefore we sympathize with Philip, care about what goes on his life, and even feel attached to him. But, if the story had been written from say, Mildred s point of view, we may not feet the same about Philip. Chances are, his characterization would be completely different because of how Mildred views him, and we would probably grow to dislike Philip as much as we learned to dislike Mildred. While we would still, most likely, see the faults in Mildred, the way we did with Philip, we would probably think of them in a kinder way. After all, we all disliked Mildred when she left Philip, who clearly loved her, to be with the German man. Yet, is that not what Philip did do Nora, who really did love him? The two characters have many similarities, yet we view one as good, and one as bad. Both raised by people other than their parents, both concerned with money, both easily distracted, both in love just, not necessarily with each other. They both turned to others for money when they were struggling; Philip wishing his uncle would die, Mildred begging Philip for help. While asceticism as a category may seem unproblematic for scholars of Early Christianity, Islamic Studies scholars are studying different religious contexts and worldviews that should be analyzed without the weight and baggage of the English and Christian term asceticism. Many of the concepts associated with asceticism that were mentioned above do not integrate neatly into the Islamic worldview nor they embody the practices of zuhd. I contend that thinking of zuhd generally as renunciation instead of asceticism allows for much greater malleability within the various traditions of Islamic renunciation that do not conform to the ascetic (Christian) standard. Second, I argue that renunciation as zuhd has not had one particular meaning or one specific mode of praxis throughout Islamic history and that the clash of zuhd archetypes has been a hallmark of Sufism since its nascent days in the desert until its most recent struggles in the modern era. The Islamic renunciant can be both the wandering outcast, who prays to God in solitude away from society, and the active socialite, who maintains an occupation and possesses a family.
