7. ANALYTICAL METHODS
The purpose of this chapter is to describe the analytical methods that are available for detecting,
measuring, and/or monitoring chlorine dioxide and chlorite, its metabolites, and other biomarkers of
exposure and effect to chlorine dioxide and chlorite. The intent is not to provide an exhaustive list of
analytical methods. Rather, the intention is to identify well established methods that are used as the
standard methods of analysis. Many of the analytical methods used for environmental samples are the
methods approved by federal agencies and organizations such as EPA and the National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Other methods presented in this chapter ... Show more

The absorbance is proportional to the concentration of the chlorine dioxide in water. Indicators used
for this technique include N,N diethyl p phenylenediamine, chlorophenol red, and methylene blue
(APHA 1998; Fletcher and Hemming 1985; Quentel et al. 1994; Sweetin et al. 1996). For example,
chlorophenol red selectively reacts with chlorine dioxide at pH 7 with a detection limit of 0.12 mg/L.
The interferences from chlorine may be reduced by the addition of oxalic acid, sodium cyclamate, or
thioacetamide (Sweetin et al. 1996). APHA Method 4500 CLO2 B, iodometric titration analysis,
measures the concentration of chlorine dioxide in water by titration with iodide, which is reduced to
form iodine. Iodine is then measured colorimetrically when a blue color forms from the production of
a starch iodine complex. The detection limit for this method is 20 µg/L (APHA 1998).

Introvertive Mysticism Katz
The debate in the academic study of mysticism between Steven Katz and Robert Forman consists of
Katz s argument that, There are NO pure (i.e. unmediated) mystical experiences (Katz, 26). Further,
Katz affirms that mystical experiences are difficult to interpret and are impossible to verify.
Comparatively, Robert Forman argues for the existence of what he refers to as Pure Consciousness
Events (PCEs) whereby mystical experiences extend beyond language and culture. Katz contends that
the major problem of the study of mysticism is the problem of whether or not mystical experiences
can be verified when experienced by a person. In like manner, Katz states that accounts of mystical
experiences are unreliable because they commonly relate to the ... Show more content on

Forman defines Pure Consciousness Events as wakeful though contentless (nonintentional)
consciousness (Forman, 8). He expands by stating, This is a form of what W.T Stace called
introvertive mysticism, which he distinguished from extrovertive mysticism. In extrovertive
mysticism one perceives a new relationship one of unity, blessedness, reality, or what have you
between the external world and the self. In introvertive mysticism there is no awareness of the external
world per se; the experience is of the self itself (Forman, 8). Moreover, Forman explains, Introvertive
mysticism denotes a transient state; (after all, no one who eats and sleeps can remain entranced
forever), whereas extrovertive mysticism denotes a more permanent state, one that lasts even while
one is engaged in activity (Forman, 8). If Forman is right and Pure Consciousness Events are real,
then that assumes that anyone can achieve a mystical experience without having a religious or spiritual
affiliation. Katz affirms that one must have a spiritual or religious connection or affiliation in order to
have a mystical experience and they will only have an experience that results from the persons mental
perceptions about the world around them. Forman responds to this by stating, Katz does not specific

To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis Essay
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the most recognizable books of all time. Ever since it s July 1960
release date it has been hailed for its genius writing, relatable characters, and narration. The novel is
told through the eyes of Scout, a young girl living in the fictional Alabama town of Maycomb, and
how she develops during an important time in her childhood. Scout s character will affect the story in
many different ways. Her childlike demeanor, strong southern accent, and personality adds to the book
s charm and memorability. You will get to see her evolve as a person throughout the entire story. As
the only narrator, all of what you know of Maycomb and its inhabitants is through her eyes. Scout is
not only the most memorable, but the most important.
In To Kill a Mockingbird the primary narrator for the story is Scout. All the characters, settings, and
plot are all introduced by Scout. You will come to know these characters through her. Why is that so
important? Simple, you are able to see Scout growing up face these challenges internally, instead of
externally. Through this story, you understand her emotions and see her learning about the world. This
also demonstrates a major conflict she and her family faces and ultimately comes to her own
conclusion. We have all been kids once, so we can relate to Scout and her dilemma. During the
confrontation with Bob Ewell at the ending of the book, if Jem were the narrator, then we wouldn t
have gotten the ending with Scout

Indigo Airways Success Story
yINDIGO AIRLINE
How India s youngest airline became the largest

Reticent and low profile are not the usual personality traits of a CEO in a high profile business like
aviation. Image: Aditya Ghosh
But Aditya Ghosh, 37, has defied convention in many ways. His regular office wear is T shirt with
jeans, he doesn t have a B school degree and before joining IndiGo, he was a lawyer at J Sagar.
Ghosh has justified his aversion for the spotlight by saying that people don t fly IndiGo because they
know the president of the company.
So his reaction to the six year old IndiGo taking a giant leap to become India s largest airline in July
was just an one liner: The airline, he said, never chased market share, but being the largest in ... Show

Before every departure, an automatic message is triggered from the aircraft to control centre and the
departure time recorded immediately. Also, the moment the flight lands, an automatic message is
triggered from the aircraft to the control centre.
There are some dissent notes as well. While vouching for its operational efficiency and attention for
details, industry analysts take the airline s claim of profitability with a pinch of salt. I doubt if the
company was able to maintain profit at operational level last year, said an analyst.
The company, which claims to be profitable since 2009 10, is not publicly listed and does not
announce its detailed financial figures. However, numbers filed with the Registrar of Companies show
that the result for 2011 12 is still awaited.
However, in an interview in March, Ghosh claimed that the company would remain in the black albeit
with a smaller profit. In the previous financial year, the airline reported 18 per cent rise in its net profit
to Rs 650.32 crore.
The country s youngest airline has become its largest. Low cost carrier IndiGo, which began
operations this month in 2006, has overtaken Jet Airways in terms of passengers flown.
According to the latest figures released by the DGCA, IndiGo, with 27 per cent market share in July
this year, has edged past Jet, which managed 26.6 per cent share.

The Great Outdoors
O Is for the Great Outdoors
In my opinion, we can sort everyone alive into two categories: outdoor people, and indoor people. I
fall into the latter category; being a pale, unathletic girl, it is difficult to be anything else. However,
despite my genetic averseness to it, I love being outside, soaking in the beauty, and just enjoying God
s creation. There are countless ways to appreciate the great outdoors, even an AC lover like me can
find ways to love it.
One way I have learned to connect with nature is through photography. About a year and a half ago, I
discovered my affinity for photography, and I started seeing the way objects interacted and filled the
negative space. There is a certain satisfaction rewarded when I take a picture and every detail just falls
in line. Nature is art, a photogenic subject waiting to be studied. Be that as it may, taking pictures
outside is somewhat different than working, practicing, and being active outside. ... Show more

Practices take up about 8 hours weekly and, consequently, it is tough to avoid outdoor activity.
Currently, with the summer weather, outside practices are not so much a chance to admire scenery as
they are blistering hot and bug filled. During the next couple months, though, the weather will chill,
and I ll be able to relish the autumn breezes and the color change of the leaves. My band experience
has shown me that in some situations, a semi coerced experience can be as benefiting as an experience
you plan.
In my family, nature is a chosen bonding point. Our vacations do not occur annually, our schedule is
normally too occupied, but we do visit scenic sites every few years. This past summer, we stayed in
West Virginia for white water rafting. The trip was terrific, and captivated all of us with the vibrant
environs of the camp and the business of the rapids. Spending time outside in a place like that gave me

Functional Impairment Analysis
Functional Impairment Autistic individuals struggle daily with social impairments like the use of non
verbal behaviors , creating and keeping friendships, and lack of interest in others (Orsmond, Krauss,
Seltzer, 2004, pg. 245). When placed in a social setting, adolescents with autism don t interact with
their peers as much as typical children (Orsmond et al., 2004). Also, they rarely ever initiate
conservations, making potential friendship more problematic to maintain (Orsmond et al., 2004). A
study showed that 47% of individuals had no friends that shared the same interests (Orsmond et al.,
2004). A small group of autistic children are able to relate to teachers and parents, but majority still
have difficulty (Orsmond et al., 2004).

Wine For Thanksgiving
# The Ideal Wine For Thanksgiving
Rushing to find the ideal wine for your Thanksgiving dinner? Not sure which one pairs best? Don t
hesitate. You ll have time to watch the Macy s Thanksgiving parade and enjoy dinner with your loved
ones.
What confuses most people in the selection of wines is that they don t draw a line between these two
categories:
1. Wines that pair well for cooking the turkey.
2. Wines that pair well for Thanksgiving dinner.
Still not sure what we mean? Let us simplify.
## Wines That Pair Well For Cooking The Turkey
Cooking with wine is a common choice for several meals. Turkey falls into the category of meals that
cooked with wine opens up new flavors. Still, not every wine should be used for cooking.
In this camp, red wines with high acidity and fruitful flavors work well. Zinfandel wines from Napa
Valley or Chile. Rioja wines from Spain are also a great choice. ... Show more content on

A red wine could be a logical choice if it is recommended for cooking. That s not the case. Red wines
are not as flexible in matching with the different meals a Thanksgiving dinner might have: ham, gravy,
potatoes, cornbread, pumpkin pie, cranberry, etc.
White wine wins over the red wine. As we stated before, red wine doesn t match well with the whole
Thanksgiving dinner experience. White wine allows the pallad to cleanse and taste every plate without
the interference of other flavors. The turkey cooked with the red wine also won t step in with the white
wine. The red wine loses moistens the turkey and elevates the taste. White wine like Rieslings or
Sauvignon Blanc works in these situations. When there is diversity in the meal course, white wine is
best.

William Blake s Poetry
William Blake was a powerful poet in the Romantic era. During this era, there was a cultural shift that
caused many changes such as natural word influences, breakaway from rules, individualism, and
social changes. These changes caused people to break away from traditional norms and focus on
imagination and culture change. Poets during this era were the center of the movement. They
concentrated their work on Imagination to create new ideas, emotions of the individual, and the
influence of nature ( William ). William Blake wrote his poetry to inform people about social
injustices and teach about the importance of imagination. He wanted to influence people through his
work of poetry, by using his ideas to change the rules and injustices of ... Show more content on

Around this time, people were going back and forth about freedom and injustices they had and the
rules they were authorized to follow. Many people like William Blake wanted a change and an
enlightenment of freedom. Later, Blake wrote A War song to Englishmen which describes the
rebellion for freedom from the horrific control of the authorities. William Blake wrote this poem as a
call for a fight against supremacy, and for the rights of the individual for freedom. Blake states in his
poem, And casts them out upon the darken d earth! (Poetic Works). This is describing the global
enslavement of society due to the lack of imagination and sovereignty of the people( William ). Blake
felt connected to the society and informs them about the absence of new ideas. He wants the people to
use their imagination to create a new system of change due to the injustices they faced. Who s fatal
scroll is that? (Poetic Works). The scroll symbolizes the freedom wanted by the people willing to fight
for it to change the rules of society. William Blake is saying that you may die for the great cause, and
if you do, you will rise with ghosts as a hero. Blake continues to talk about the risk of death while
fighting for freedom in lines twenty two through twenty five. Soldiers prepare! Be worthy of our
cause/ Prepare to meet our fathers in the sky/ Prepare, O troops, that are to fall to day!/ Prepare,

campuses are forming regulations on speech codes on campuses, others choose to remain unregulated.
The decision is not put at ease with the first and fourteen amendment conflicting between the citizens

But not if they liked Gore (Dolgow). The same cannot occur on a college campus, however the fear
remains on information on others can be used or freedom of expression in a college setting. The fact
remains that there is a substantial difference between a corporation and a university. Universities are
meant to be a place of learning and just like science is able to accept new theories, we should be
willing to accept new ideas. Building tolerance as a community allows us to embraces unpopular
ideas. That being said, there is very good reasons to protect offensive or unpopular speech. During the
1950 s, minority groups didn t have the right to vote and civil rights movements sprung across the
country. Voting right activists in the South experienced various forms of mistreatment and violence.
One such event on March 7, 1965, when peaceful participants in a voting rights march from Selma,
Alabama, to the state capital in Montgomery were met by Alabama state troopers who attacked them
with nightsticks, tear gas and whips after they refused to turn back ( Voting Rights Act ). One can
conclude based on the reactions, the decision to call in the state troopers and the state troopers
attacking the protestors, that these individuals found the protest offensive and threating their values of
white supremacy. Therefore, should we banned offensive or popular speech solely on the fact that
these speech may make some individuals feel uncomfortable or offended? Some

Essay On Bureaucrats
Federal bureaucrats can slow down or stall a president s agenda by claiming lack of knowledge or by
using interests groups. Bureau chiefs can claim they do not have enough information to make a
decision, especially a decision involving other bureaus. By doing this, they are claiming then need
more time to investigate, which slows the president s policies. By using interest groups, bureaucrats
can go through Congress. This interest groups plead to their Senators and House reps, which takes
longer to have the president s policies in place by law. They can also sabotage a president s agenda by
leaking unauthorized information. This reduces the president s credibility and forces people to think
about the effect of the new information on the policies. Bureaucrats would do these things, because
they support their burea more than the president. These bureaucrats sincerely believe in their bureau s
purpose and feel they must protect its jurisdiction, programs, and budget at all costs (Heclo 275).
Presidents and administrations chance, but the bureaus stay and bureaucrats try to stand in its best
standings. The president can counter the attempts to slow down, stall, or sabotage his administration
by building strong outside contacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stories become a great influence on people as they view other people either on television or through a
book as they explain their struggles or experiences. They should not view them as a negative
perspective because of the media. In the article, Slippery Slopes: Media, Disability, and Adaptive
Sport, the author William Peace notes how the media shows disability out as something to be
miraculously and inspirationally overcome with real consequences (Peace 676). When taking a gander
at somebody with an incapacity, people tend to believe that they are not ready to do the things that
individuals with abled bodies can, which is false. While having an incapacity there are approaches to

Common Core Standards Literature Review
Literature Review What is the common core? The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) defines the
knowledge and skills in English language arts and mathematics that students need for success in
college and careers upon high school graduation (Santos, Darling Hammond, Cheuk (2012)). The
common core was created, to provide clear academic benchmarks with more concise academic
standards for essential learning that will prepare students to be college and career ready (Liebtag, E.
(2013)). The common core standards have then, been introduced and applied to most schools in the
U.S, and although it may have its controversies, the major issue, is its effect on ELL (English

According to Duguay, A., Massoud, L., Tabaku, L., Himmel, J., Sugarman, J. (2013, September), As
educators have examined the standards more deeply, concerns have arisen about their implementation
in classrooms with diverse groups of students, including English learners . Not only this, but the
concept of math also has its visible adversities. According to Robertson, K. (2009), Although it is easy
to assume that many English language learners (ELLs) will excel in math because math is a universal
language and students may have had prior educational experience that included mathematical
instruction, that assumption can lead educators astray . Many teachers are struggling with the,
increasingly rigorous grade level content instruction; by content area teachers, many of whom are
newly incorporating language development techniques in their subject area classes (Duguay, A.,
Massoud, L., Tabaku, L., Himmel, J., Sugarman, J. (2013, September)). The common core may be the
stepping for detailed curriculum, but it is seeming that, it cannot be tailored to all of the diverse
populations of our nation (Liebtag, E. (2013)). The expectations of the common core exacerbate the
academics for ELL students. According to, HAKUTA, K., SANTOS, M., FANG, Z. (2013), when ELs

Foundations Of The Building Transfer
FOUNDATIONS The foundations of the building transfer the weight of the building to the ground.
While foundation is really a general word, normally, every building has many individual foundations,
commonly called footings. Usually each column of the building will have its individual footing. Since
the weight of the building rests on the land (or rock), engineers have to study the properties of the soil
very carefully to ensure it can carry the loads imposed because of the building. It is common for
engineers to determine the safe bearing capacity of your soil after such study. Because the name
suggests, this is the amount of weight per unit area your soil can bear. For instance, the safe bearing
capacity(SBC) for a location could be 20 T/m2, or perhaps tonnes per square metre. That capacity also
changes at different depths of soil. In normal, the deeper one digs, the greater the SBC, unless there
are pockets of weak soil in the earth. To properly support a building, the soil must become very firm
and strong. It is common for the soil near the top of earth to be loose along with weak. If a building is
rested within this soil, it will sink in the earth like a ship in water. Building contractors will commonly
dig until they reach quite firm, strong, soil that can not be dug up easily before building a foundation.
To study the properties of the soil before designing foundations, engineers will request a soil
investigation to be achieved. A soil investigation engineer will

The Theme Of Insecurity In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Illusions of Insecurity The emergence of the Romantic era of literature was greatly catalyzed by the
works of Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne. The Romantic ideals of a flawed society and the
impaired human state are prevalent throughout a variety if their works especially Poe s The Man of the
Crowd and Ligeia as well as Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown. Within these short stories, Poe and
Hawthorne manipulate the novels structure and use devices such as irony diction to assert that selfish
and insecure individuals strive to affirm his or her purity by comparing it to the flaws and sins of
others and throughout this quest to scrutinize others, an individual unknowingly falls into path of

Once again the reader is guided throughout the story by an obviously flawed and unreliable narrator.
The accounts of Ligeia are a story from the past and narrator s retelling is most likely from a distant

memories. In terms of the narrator, the life of his former wife Ligeia was somewhat of a blur and he

but what he does not fall short on describing is the features of her actual person: In stature she was

the reader sees the selfishness that is associated with the narrator of The Man of the Crowd and the
main character of Young Goodman Brown. Within Ligeia lies a certain purity and

The Global Climate Change Debate Essay
The Global Climate Change Debate How do I know what to believe?
Introduction:
Climate change has been a topic of debate for decades. Scientists support climate change is happening
with hard scientific evidence whereas the people who oppose climate change have evidence which is
mainly opinion based. This report will cover what climate change is, why climate change is
happening, the science that supports climate change, the different views and opinions on climate
change, the effects of climate change around the world and particularly the effects in New Zealand,
my opinion on climate change and my conclusion on the issue.
The science of Climate Change:
(1) The process of climate change
The most basic definition for climate change is a change in the average weather conditions and this
has always been a part of the Earth s natural process however recently climate change has been used
to refer to the change caused by human activities, this is known as Human Induced Climate Change.
Human Induced Climate Change began after the Industrial Revolution but it didn t have a large effect
until after the 1950s in which human activities greatly accelerated. Will Steffen in an interview
referred to this as The Great Acceleration (2)
(2) The Great Acceleration shows how human activities and environmental trends have increased of
the past 60 years.

Economic And Monetary Union Of The European Union

though there have been many setbacks to a united Europe, including WWI, WWII, and the Cold War,
the realization of a united Europe became a reality with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992

The Flaws of the European Monetary Union and European Union: Even with the limitations inherent
to the EMU and EU, they have provided great economic gains. Since the establishment of the EMU
and EU, trade costs have decreased between member nations, and have given Europe the ability to
compete economically with the United States, China, and other global economic superpowers
(Feldstein). However, there are four major problems that the EMU and EU cannot currently address:
(1) irresponsible government expenditure, (2) stabilizing economic shocks, (3) coordinating economic
policy between nations, and (4) addressing debt crises.
[1] Irresponsible Government Expenditure: A major issue faced by the nations in the EMU and EU is
irresponsible government expenditure. This issue grew rapidly due to the low interest rates offered to
members of the EMU after its creation. At the time, creditors believed that nations involved would
either be protected from default by member nations, or become more fiscally responsible as a result of
becoming a member (Feldstein). However, this did not stop countries like

Ontological And Epistemological Debate About The Nature Of...
Ontological and Epistemological debates about the nature of the therapeutic relationship.
Existence and Relationship . Can these two concepts exist independently of each other without the
presence of the one to be necessary for the presence of the other? Is it possible for anything to exist
without being related to anything else nor being perceptible by touch? Is it possible for something to
exist if it cannot be described nor being visually present, even though it brings out strong feelings and
a sense of connection?
Epistemologically, everything we see (people, objects, etc.) exists only in relationship to something
else.
As Cottone (1988,363) mentions, relationship is what we are born from, nurtured by and getting
educated from. Our existence is defined within the domain of the society, and it is within society
where we interact with others, socialise and satisfy our biological needs. ... Show more content on

From the ancient years, the relationship between two people has healing properties and is the main
influence for changes in people s lives.
Especially, in counselling and psychotherapy, the relationship between client and counsellor is the
most significant part of the therapeutic procedure. Many studies (Buborsky et al. 1983, O Maley et al.
1983, Hill 1989) illustrate that it is the therapeutic relationship more that any other factor, which
determines the effectiveness of counselling therapy. Moreover, literature which reviews the way, in
which clients experience the therapeutic process, indicates that the many of the client s thoughts and
feelings remain unspoken during the counselling sessions. (Dinnage, 1988, Mearns and Dryden,

Small et al. (1997) provide a summary of theoretical on the review of congestion measures
demonstrated at the outset of this project that a number of different approaches are used to quantify
the level of congestion for an urban area. Although there are a number of different congestion
measures, travel time measures offer the best means for estimating the economic impacts of the
congestion. There are several reasons for this:
1. Travel time corresponds directly to the traveler s experience of congestion, when measured from a
given origin to destination;
2. As indicated below, efforts to estimate the direct user costs of congestion are based on placing a
value on travel time, often as a percentage of the wage rate; and

According to the municipality s website, Windhoek is growing at a rate of approximately 4.3% per
year and within 20 years Windhoek will have to cater to the transport needs of 1 million residents. At
the moment, there are approximately 330 000 people living in Windhoek and more than half of them
work in the city center while some learners travel to school in the city from Katutura and other
suburbs every day.
Apart from public transportation, which consists of taxis and municipal buses, the number of private
vehicles in the city seem to be increasing daily as more and more people buy cars and traffic
congestion gets worse as most of these vehicles use the three main routes into town.
According to IJG Securities statistics of vehicle sales, 6 373 vehicles have been purchased in
Windhoek alone since the beginning of the year, consisting of 3 102 passenger vehicles, 2 841 light
commercial vehicles (bakkies) and 430 extra heavy vehicles (buses and trucks).
The Chief Engineer: Road Planning, Design and Traffic Flow at the City of Windhoek, Horst Lisse,
said the municipality is very aware of the situation and although it has a plan for the creation of new
roads, funding has been a problem for the past five years. As such the municipality decided to go in a

Puerto Rico In Crisis Analysis
Puerto Rico has been in a state of crisis since the start of its ambiguous, inferior, and dependent
relationship with the United States. The phrase Puerto Rico in crisis , in its political context, refers the
fact that Puerto Rico has never had political sovereignty since 1898. Instead the U.S. established and
maintained unchecked control over the island since the U.S. acquired it. There are two aspects of
Puerto Rican politics that make up the political crisis. The first aspect is the fact that Puerto Rico has
never secured political autonomy or sovereignty to govern itself under the U.S.. The second aspect is
that Puerto Rican voters have never been able to unify their support under one method of attaining
sovereignty, regardless of whether

The Bodhisattva s Body
The elaborateness of the bodhisattva remains in the figure as whole and in its separate parts,
specifically the headdress and its sword halo, the cloth, and the lotus flower seat. As a whole, the
bodhisattva is made up of multiple parts: the sword halo, the headdress, the bodhisattva s body and
arms, the lotus flower seat, and the earth base. The sword halo appears to be slightly detached from
the bodhisattva s body, mostly connected to the lotus flower seat. The halo gives the body more depth
because it provides a background. This means that the bodhisattva is not in need of having a highly
decorated backdrop behind it, especially because the halo creates an interesting shadow. The shadow
is defined by the holes within the halo and the swords ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sheer amount of weapons the bodhisattva, including the ax, trident, and spear, strikes fear in those
who disobey. This image instills a sense of reverence because of the danger that could come from
being bad in nature. It also promotes the desire to worship and become a devout Buddhist because of
the consequences that one could face on other paths of life. If on Buddhist path, one has this
bodhisattva to protect and guide them. It elevates the value of Buddhism and its teachings; the viewer
will see Buddhism as the way of life that will help them reach Heaven and achieve an afterlife that
other religions cannot achieve. To go along with the weapons, there are eight arms in total, all doing
different things: between holding objects and signing mudras. It is overwhelming to see eight arms
because of how otherworldly it is; furthermore, the arms all have their own function. This being has
the capability to control more than two arms, without any difficulty. The admiration for the power and
strength of the bodhisattva develops as the viewer takes in the the arms and weaponry. It would be
necessary to take multiple visits to see the bodhisattva to begin to process everything the arms are
doing and what their positions are. While this is outrightly stunning, the finer details remain to be
found by the viewer, an example being the patterned

An Exploration of Management Practices in a Military...
Introduction An exploration of management practices in a military organization is substantively
different in a number of ways from the same type of exploration conducted in the world of civilian
enterprise. In the military, there is a cord extending from Pentagon level leadership to down range
command. This cord is an articulation of myriad rules and regulations that are not vulnerable to
managerial whimsy or subject to the next new best management practice being promulgated in Ivy
League business schools as the enlightened way forward. This is not to say that military management
cannot or does not access the rich store of contemporary management theory. Rather, it is a validation
of the place reasoned change has in the military machination. For military management practices to be
revised, there must be a clear cut advantage to capacity and force development. ARFOGEN was
established for just those reasons to ensure that the Army regained its balance in order to meet the
requirements to operate in an environment of prolonged conflict against a hybrid threat ( Stand To!,
2010).
Planning. In 2006, the United States Army took planning steps to move away from a de facto demand
driven process of force generation that left the forces, in the words of Army Chief of Staff General
George Casey, out of balance ( Stand To!, 2010). The demand for forces in the protracted conflicts in
Afghanistan and Iran was met without conscription a first time circumstance for military

Essay on The Poetic Style of Henry Charles Bukowski
Henry Charles Bukowski
Poetry is the art of rhythmical composition written or spoken for exciting pleasure by beauty
imaginative or elevated thought. It is also literary work in metrical form. By definition, a poet is a
person how composes poetry. The relationship between poetry and the late Henry Charles Bukowski is
equivalent to that of a professional ice skater and the ice that he skates on . By the same token, it
compared to something a bit less governed, although a pro ice skater is free to graze the ice at his own
expense, the root of professional ice skating is indeed restricted. For example, judges, rules,

Bukowski s youth played a great role in the consistent content that he provided. He had a level and
limit that was different from what everyone at that time was used to. In an interview when he was
asked about his father, there was discontent in the eyes of Bukowski. He said his father taught him
how to type, being physically and verbally abusive. Getting beaten with a razor strap three times a
week since the age of six, all the pretense is gone, so you tend to say what you mean. That made him
different from others because he didn t use metaphors a lot. Another aspect that influenced his content
was the fact that he was a virgin till his mid twenties. He had a shyness problem and horrible acne.
Those factors in his youth were ingredients to being an outcast in mainstream society, which is bound
to make one different in few ways or another. The style and content of Bukowski s work was heavily
influenced by the environment that surrounded him. He took classes at Los Angles City College where
he missed classes. He held a job at the postal service that he absolutely despised, he did as little as
possible . He went on a journey roaming the States because he wanted experience to make his writings
more in depth. He looked at sex as something you do when you can t sleep. To him love was

The Hidden Driver Of Excellence
A Summary of Chapters Three and Four in Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence by Daniel
Goleman
(450) Chapter Three: Attention Top and Bottom
In this chapter, Goleman (2015) defines the important differences in the way the brain functions in
order to focus on a particular object or event. The neurological function of the brain defines why there
is a bottom up mind and top down mind that operates when discerning between differing focus
orientation. In this way, Goleman (2015) identifies the bottom up mind as being much faster in
deciphering perceived threats or challenges as an involuntary focus: Faster in brain time...involuntary
and automatic (Goleman 25). In contrast to this faster mindset, Goleman (2015) the top down mind is
much slower, which provides a voluntary attention span that can analyze an event or situation through
focus. In this manner, Goleman (2015) is really talking about the involuntary and voluntary
neurological functions of the brain that identify the differing aspects of focus that a human possesses.
This is an important part of this chapter that allows the reader to understand the brain s ability to
discern between two differing focuses options.
Another important aspects of the bottom up and top down approach that human beings tend to be
reactionary by relying too much on their involuntary focus. Therefore, the bottom up method tends to
be a driving force in concentration, which can be problematic if it is not analyzed and checked

Differences Between Formalist And Functionalist Stylistics
The Comparison and Contrast between Formalist and Functionalist Stylistics There are several
differences way how formalist and functionalist analyze a text. The formalists consist of Roman
Jakobson s poetic function of language, Viktor Shklovsky s defamiliarisation and Vladimir Propp s the
morphology of the folktale. Besides, the functionalist consists of Halliday with his tripartite functions
(ideational, interpersonal, and textual). Both differences will explain below. The first part will flesh
out about formalist stylistics. Russian Formalism is known at the beginning of the twentieth century as
the great impact on the contemporary stylistics. There are two famous schools which claim founding
the Russian formalism movement. They are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Functionalist is not only concerning the text, but it is also interested in the role that context play in the
process of meaning making. So, there are gradual movements from text to context, from form to
function, from semantics to pragmatics and from logic to rhetoric. In Halliday in Routledge (2014:46),
Halliday observes that language has tripartite function which can be broken down into three
interconnecting metafunctions . They are ideational (to express ideas and experience (clause as
representation)), interpersonal (to mediate in the establishment of social relationship(clause as
exchange)), textual (to provide the formal properties of language(clause as message)). These three
metafunctions are good when these are used all of the in any study of text. Cohesion is the part of
textual metafunction which refers to the way in which sentences are linked together in order to make
sense. There are several cohesion devices which are able to tie together semantically such as
conjunction, ellipsis, substitution and reference. These features of cohesion have function to cohere
between the message and the language so that the readers are not

It Was Not Fair, By The Brown V. The Board Of Education
It was Not Fair Knowledge overcomes ignorance and was the best weapon in the fight against
injustice. Words as these were the only form of consolation for children who were separated but they
remained to be equal because they were either worthless in society or they were inferior. But the
inferior here were the whites, it was whom a black child noticed were always in charge. This
inferiority was what caused black children like Moses attend schools were children who looked like
himself attended. Moses had moved into an all white neighborhood where a new school was being
constructed across the street. Everyone wondered if he would be able to attend the school, the answer
was clear: NO. Therefore, Moses had to wake up, pretend there was no school right across the street
and walk or ride his bike two miles to the school where the law said he belonged. This was in 1958,
four years after the Brown v. the Board of Education. By knowing what Brown v. the Board of
Education was, the effects before the case and the outcomes, it is better understood why children like
Moses did not have to walk long distances to attend a school when there was one right across the
street. It was not fair. Brown v. the Board of Education was a Supreme Court decision held in 1954 in
which the Equal Protection Clause was being violated in segregated schools because the city s black
and white schools were not equal to each other and never could be . At this point in time, schools

Based on my week, I spend the bulk of my time on school associated activities. This was not a
surprise to me, what I was surprised by was the small amounts of time that I devote to my religion.
Although I attend seminary, read my scriptures, and pray everyday, the accumulative time of all on
these activities adds to just over an hour a day. I am quite aware of how I spend my time, it is very
unusual for me to lay around and waste time of useless tasks.
2. Based on my week, I can only largely identify two main values from exercise #1: knowledge and
service. This makes sense because I spend 32 hours sitting in class a week. This doesn t include time
spent on homework or other corresponding activities. Something that did not make too large of an

extremely diminished this week. But it is to be expected that my religion isn t quite as evident within
my daily schedule because it isn t practical to spend over 4 hours a day reading scriptures, there
simply isn t enough time. True spirituality is seen through more subtle actions than in extravagant
activities that draw large amounts of attention. With this considered, I do still need to increase the

How Did Buddy Bolden Influence African American
Music is a simple part within everyone s lives; whether you re young or old, black or white, music has
a place within your heart. Music is a diverse world within itself, including many different genres like
jazz, pop, rock, classical, etc. Jazz is the only music genre that Americans themselves invented.
African American culture is where this music started, though. A very influential African American
character in our history is Buddy Bolden. He was an enormous influence on the jazz cultures in
American history. Buddy Bolden is also the first known person to ever play jazz music, crediting him
as the original creator.
Charles Joseph Buddy Bolden was born September 6th, 1877 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born
to Westmore Bolden and Alice née Harris. His father passed away when Charles was only 6 years old.
He grew up to play the cornet and the ragtime style of Jass , which later became known as Jazz.
Bolden was an avid cornet player and enjoyed experimenting with different playing styles within his
music. He wrote his own song, which is labeled now as Buddy Bolden Blues , but was originally
called Funky Butt back in his time. This song was considered extremely offensive to some people, as
the lyrics weren t the nicest. He enjoyed playing in this new style of music labeled as blues ... Show

Importance Of Visit To A Shinto Church
I decided to write about my visit to a Shinto Church as my cultural experience. The church I visited is
called Izumo Taisha Mission of Hawaii. I had actually been to this church many times since I was a
child to participate in Japanese cultural events, but I have little knowledge of what the Shinto religion
actually practices. This is also the shrine where my family goes for our New Year s blessing ritual.
Since turning to Christianity, I still liked to attend the church s events and New Year s ritual, but other
than that, I just didn t have the desire to learn more about Shinto. Based on my fieldwork into the
appearance, clothing, and rituals of Shinto, I theorize that Shinto is religion to focuses highly on
keeping one s body and soul pure and in good fortune through worship to multiple God s.
When I visited the church, I had scheduled the meet the Bishop, Daiya Amano. He has been a friend
of my family for a long time, and he was happy to share the Shinto culture despite knowing I had
already chosen my belief. Shinto is one of the two primary religions of Japan, and the church is a good
place for tourist and local Japanese to pay their respects to. Shinto is a religion of polytheism and
animism, and thus, believes in God s of animate and inanimate objects. Shinto believes that every
aspect of life has a God in charge. There s a God of nature, weather, business, knowledge, war,

Nurses Usage Of Clinical Decision Support Systems
Little is know regarding nurses usage of Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSSs). Few studies in
this subject focus on nurses adherence and engagement on using this healthcare information
technology to ensure patient safety and delivery of the best care possible (Anderson Willson, 2008).
Clinical decision support systems are defined as electronic systems (computer software applications)
designed to aid directly in clinical decision making, in which patient s characteristics are used to
generate patient specific assessments and recommendations (Bright et al., 2012). Examples of CDSSs

In 2009, the Institute of Medicine listed the implementation of clinical decision support systems,
among other healthcare information technologies, as one of its 100 priority areas of research, bringing
visibility and reinforcing the need of theses systems to improve the health of the country. A
considerable investment ($36 billion) aiming the rapid implementation and adoption of these
information technologies came from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009
(Piscotty Kalisch, 2014). The previous listed works and investments, among others, have the goal to
use electronic health records in a meaningful way, promoting exchange of information among
healthcare providers (Piscotty Kalisch, 2014), delivery of the best care possible and patient safety.
Different works found in the literature address research questions regarding the function of clinical
decision support systems, its usage among healthcare providers, the role on improving care and

Neil Postman The End Of Education Summary
Introduction:
Education in today s day in age has evolved to become an intricate system of developing individual
knowledge on social values and academic knowledge in the context of a technologically advanced
global society.
Neil Postman in his book, The End of Education, argues that the educational crisis is complex and that
the technical problem of building academic skills is just a scratch in the surface. Postman believed that
schools focused more on teaching economic utility, consumerism, multiculturalism and technology.
Postman (1995) also claims that schools in their methods and practices do not necessarily help
students in preparing for economic life and that there was no evidence that a quality schooling
experience could be associated with positive economic productivity (p.28). Moreover, Postman claims
that the value of group cohesion and connectivity with peers is lost with the individualization of
computer learning (1995, p.45). Postman believed that learning to accept the world with all its cultural
rules, requirements, constraints, and even prejudices; is one of the two things schools must be
teaching. The second being, students developing skills to be critical thinkers, which in turn makes

The Study Of Nonlinear Electron-Acoustic ( EA ) Wave...
The study of nonlinear electron acoustic (EA) wave propagation is one of the predominant research
areas in space plasma environments. The concept of EA waves was developed by Fried and Gould (
removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) 1 ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) for the first time in an
unmagnetized plasma, and they observed that electron plasma oscillations can appear in a continuous
formulation without correlation in the presence of collective effects, making the physics non trivial.
The authors ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) 1 ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) noticed
that beyond the well known Langmuir and ion acoustic (IA) waves, there was a heavily damped

studied the nonlinear propagation of EA waves in an unmagnetized plasma with hot Maxwellian
electrons and fluid cold and beam electrons and ions and compared their results with the spiky
structures of the broadband electrostatic noise due to nonlinear EA waves observed in the aurora1
region of the Earth s magnetosphere. Schriver and Ashour Abdalla ( removed HTML ) ( removed

electron ion instability can be combined to form a broadbanded wave spectrum that rapidly destroys
the electron beam. Pottelett ( removed HTML ) et al. ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) (

The Effects Of Binge Drinking On College
One of my youth pastors told the teens at church on a Wednesday night, Don t start a habit in your
younger years that is going to control the way you live your adult years . Whenever I heard this
statement, I thought of teens binge drinking in college. College drinking has become a major issue for
people under the age of twenty one. Binge drinking becomes addicting, especially for people under the
age of twenty one. Understanding the problem and consequences of binge drinking will help to show
that lowering the drinking age will not help the problem. Binge drinking in college is when students
consume an excessive amount of alcohol in a short period of time. This can happen because of parties,
meeting new friends, even being in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with binge drinking comes consequences. The most common cause for deaths in car accidents
is drinking and driving. In Roan s book, Roan states, In 1984, a federal standard was established
setting the minimum legal drinking age at 21. Since then, traffic fatalities among drivers ages 18 to 20
have fallen by an estimated 13%, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(Roan ). This statistic is one that shows how lowering the legal drinking age would not solve the
problem of binge drinking in college. Most people that are freshman in college start school at 18 or
19. As stated in the previous paragraph, these freshman attend parties or events with older people.
These students can be 21 or older and be able to buy alcohol. This can lead to underage drinking. If a
student does not live on campus, he or she will have to drive back to their house. They can be giving
friends a ride to wherever they need to go, or just driving around goofing off. If they have had an
excessive amount of alcohol, they can be endangering the lives of themselves, their friends lives, and
other people on the road. If they were to have a car accident, they could kill the other people in the
cars involved. They can then be charged with murder. Another consequence of binge drinking is
alcohol related death. In the same article by Roan, he talks about a

Broadway Play Compare And Contrast Essay
I watched Broadway Play and Baz Luhrman
The first difference I noticed after watching two scenes was the involvement of audience. Broadway
Play is a recorded film of a live play in which audiences and actors both exist actors must not only
speak their lines to portray and reveal their emotions, but must also speak their lines in a way the
audience can understand it. Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, is a film with a purpose to emphasize the
theme of Romeo and Juliet with its viewers. There are no restrictions in which actors speak their lines,
as long as the main message can be understood by the viewers.
Involvement of audience also can be related to how music is being used in the two scenes. In
Broadway Play, music seems to be used as a transition between dialogues of characters. The scene
first starts off with a lively music, but the sound decreases as Lord Capulet takes control. In Baz
Lurhman, music is used to maximize the emphasis on the love of Romeo and Juliet. An example
would be when Romeo and Juliet are staring at each other, with an aquarium in between. No words are
spoken, but as Romeo and Juliet slowly engage in each other, viewers can easily understand that the
two are in love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Broadway Play, is a live play with a limited space, and so there is also a limit to the usage of props.
Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, has nearly unlimited space, and so the setting feels much like a party.
Personally, I enjoyed Broadway Play more than Baz Luhrman. I do admit that the settings in Baz
Luhrman feels much more like the settings Shakespeare would ve written in his plays, but there are so
much things going on in a scene in Baz Luhrman and it sometimes can be hard to understand what the
characters are trying to

Guns Germs And Steel Imperialism
In the novel Guns, Germs, and Steel, by Jared Diamond, it is emphasized how the modern world holds
an utmost array of differences among societies. Those of Eurasian origin greatly influence the world
of power and wealth. However, other people such as Africans, fought off against European colonial
dictatorship, lack such influence and wealth. And other people, including the Aboriginal Australians,
no longer rule their own land. Rather, they have become decimated and subjugated by European
colonists. Food production, technology, and the decisions made by varying continents played a role in
the fates of societies. Geographic features, along with other factors, dictated the development of guns,
germs, and steel.
Food production was the leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What Diamond failed to discuss is the political decisions made to engage in European imperialism, to
construct steel and guns, and to utilize disease as a weapon. European s acquirement of guns and steel
did not mean they were compelled to use such technology to colonize the other continents. Without
acknowledging this, Europeans appear as inadvertent conquerors. Guns, Germs, and Steel does not
explain the capability for people to make judgements and influence the aftermath. For example, stated
in the epilogue, the Fertile Crescent lost its head start because it was the inhabitants decision to clear
the woodlands periodically, not allowing the vegetation to grow back soon enough. In China, it was
the type of political organization the inhabitants agreed on that allowed one of their dictators to decide
whether they accept innovation for the entire empire. The arrangements that Europe, the Fertile
Crescent, and China established, along with the environments they resided in, and many other factors,
all contribute to the disparate fates of their

Examples Of Competent Evidence
1) Competent evidence is described by Ingram as the quality of evidence that is offered which makes
it proper to be received (p. 29). Two examples of competent evidence: murder weapon with
fingerprints of the suspect on them, and secondly a sworn written statement confessing to a crime.
Incompetent evidence is evidence that was obtained illegally or is considered to be incompetent by
some court established statute. Two examples of incompetent evidence: murder weapon found in a car
as a result of an illegal search and seizure, and secondly anything deemed immaterial or not relevant
due to its lack of authenticity or any evidence that has a defect of some kind. Ingram, Jefferson.
Criminal Evidence. 12th ed. Amsterdam: Elsevier, 2015. Print. 2) Originally the Frye test was
established to help determine the competency of evidence but was quickly replaced by the Federal
Rules of Evidence with the main rule of competency being Rule 702. Ingram, Jefferson. Criminal
Evidence. 12th ed. Amsterdam: Elsevier, 2015. Print. 6) No, it does no mean that they must declare a

Criminal Justice Challenges
The Criminal Justice System has evolved during the 21st century, especially when it comes to the
challenges that it is faced with and the way Criminal Justice officials execute their actions. There are
many different challenges that the Criminal Justice System has encountered, however, this author
believes the most important challenge they have to encounter in the 21st century is the way the media
and society portray the role of law enforcement officials. It is the most important challenge because as
law enforcement officers they are to be trusted but if the media portrays them as untrustworthy or
corrupt then society will not respect them nor will they feel safe around them. As a reader, do you
believe that one of the most important challenges is the portrayal of law enforcement officials?
The media has a major impact on people s mindsets, especially the way that people view the criminal
justice system and law enforcement officials. According to an article in the Journal of Criminal Justice
and Popular Culture, it quotes, it is speculated that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a law enforcement official, it is their job to serve and protect the community. In order for them to
be able to serve and protect efficiently, their community has to trust them and be aware that they are
safe having law enforcement on their side. However, there are many citizens that do not trust law
enforcement officials because of the negative stories that media outlets publicize. Media outlets leave
the majority of the positive law enforcement stories out of the news and headlines, which makes
citizens not aware of the positive actions that police officers actually do. This author believes citizens
should not be quick to form a judgment on law enforcement until they have experienced negative
actions from law enforcement at hand. Although there may be law enforcement officials that may be
corrupt, not all of them are a part of those corrupt

The Divine Comedy Dante By Dante Alighieri
Perfection. Society has been taught to strive for that and normally perfection is accompanied by a
religion that exemplifies it and the reward tends to be unimaginably amazing. The problem is that no
one is perfect, and because there is no way to measure that we try our best or we give up and follow
other paths. Dante Alighieri, born in Florence, Italy in 1265, was born into a very power hungry age.
Morality was not very high on someone s to do list. In the Divine Comedy Dante makes a point of
writing about those that have done him wrong and placing them where the belong . But Dante does not
only expose the bad people in his life but the bad people all over the world and he also includes
himself. Dante writes his book to scare others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Justice the founder of my fabric moved: To rear me was the task of Power divine, Supremest Wisdom,
and primeval Love. Before me things create were none, save things Eternal, and eternal I endure. All
hope abandon, ye who enter here. This phrase needed to be proclaimed for the story to go on because
it established the road for the poem. The phrase divulges that Hell is almost like a city where there is
interminable pain and suffering and anguish. In Hell there are nine circles and each of those circles is
centralizes it s punishment around a type of sin. In the first circle it is called Limbo where the
unbaptized and virtuous pagans are grieving all day every day from not being with God. The second
circle was for the lustful who are blown around by a never ending and violent wind. In the fifth circle
are the Wrathful which contain those who were angry and did not let things go. In the fifth circle is a
man named Filippo Argenti, a man who Dante hated and wished more punishment upon. Dante got his
wish. Circle VI embodies the Heretics and where Farinata, Dante s enemy in politics, resides. Both
Filippo and Farinata did Dante wrong but that is not the only reason they ended up in Hell. They
ended up there because they sinned and the punishment fit their sins. Dante not only punished the

Torts and Professional Liability
Case 6 a) There are many defendants in this case. First and foremost Dale, the loss prevention officer
for Wal Mart, is a defendant because he intentionally restrained Bob against his will and the restraint
was unlawful. Dale also failed to follow company rules; Dale was supposed to watch a video that
explained how to catch and deal with thieves but decided not to watch the video. The second
defendant would be Dale s supervisor. The supervisor recorded a pass on an exam that dale did not
take. The exam Dale failed to write was based on the video that Dale did not watch. The third
defendant would be Wal Mart; Wal Mart assumes liability because they could be at fault for not
properly training staff. Bob would want to take action on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case Tardif v. Wiebe, Tardif, a bouncer, was liable for physically assaulting a patron of a bar.
But what is interesting is that the Hotel was vicariously liable for Tardifs excessive and unjustified
force . This applies to this case because Dale acted with excessive and unjustifiable force on Bob. In
Tardif v. Weibe, the courts ruled the fact that the business instructed employees not to use force does
not operate as a defense. So, even though Wal Marts training video that clearly states that no
chokeholds are to be used on any suspected shoplifter, Wal Mart can not use this as a defense.
Investing in training one s staff could have prevented this. c) Dale could claim that he was acting in
reasonable manner according to section 494 (1) of the criminal code. That he reasonably believed Bob
had committed the criminal offense of stealing and had to forcibly restrain the said thief because
police would not make it to the scene on time. If you refer to R. v. Chen, Chen claimed he had to
forcibly restrain the thief because the police were too busy to respond promptly to complaints of
shoplifting. Dale could say Bob was resisting even after Dale showed his badge and that restraining
him was his only option to prevent the theft. The supervisor could possibly claim that he did not owe a
duty of care and that the duty of care fell onto Dale, the loss prevention officer. Therefor, not

1.1 Explain The Difficulties Of Using English Language
Transcriptional
Again using the standards of a year 6 pupil within national curriculum, it shows that in relation to
transcriptional areas it is clear that this child is quite confident with their spelling and handwriting.
There are more strengths than weaknesses. This child has the ability to spell words with a silent letter,
such as, like and would. Their ability to use homophones is clearly shown especially in words like
would, were, look and wear. However, it was noticed that this child struggled with the homophone
their and there, due to incorrectly using this in their writing e.g. this argument is about if their should
be rather than using there. In their writing only one spelling mistake was noticed, which was about,
incorrectly spelt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parts of the child s writing, such as, the grammar used could be overcome by teaching this as a whole
class, by year 6 children should write plausible sentences that make sense. Therefore, modelling to the
whole class a sentence which isn t clear and asking them to discuss why it is incorrect and what they
could do to improve this is a way to get children actively thinking and guiding each other s learning or
even allowing the child to proof read their work again to ensure it makes sense in their head before
carrying out the previous activity. To help up level punctuation, it would be useful to model a sentence
with punctuation including question marks, semi colons, dashes etc. and allow the child to use one of
their sentences, in order to up level that by using a variety of punctuation that is set at a year 6
standard within the national curriculum. The child seems to be quite confident with transcriptional
areas, apart from the few areas mentioned therefore to help with those particular issues, as a teacher it
would be an idea to just mark these areas or highlight them to make it clear that they are incorrect.
After the child has looked at the marking, talk it through with them to ensure they have a clear
understanding of how they went wrong and how to fix it. Allowing the use of a thesaurus and
dictionary will enable the child to use a bigger range of vocabulary or even allowing them to use
words from the national curriculum for year 6 to see if they could include some of these in their
writing, this will be a good way to influence a higher level piece of writing. After analysing this child
s piece of work and going through how they could improve, an idea would be to give the child another
writing frame which they

  • 2. Clo2 Residual Testing Method CHLORINE DIOXIDE AND CHLORITE 105 7. ANALYTICAL METHODS The purpose of this chapter is to describe the analytical methods that are available for detecting, measuring, and/or monitoring chlorine dioxide and chlorite, its metabolites, and other biomarkers of exposure and effect to chlorine dioxide and chlorite. The intent is not to provide an exhaustive list of analytical methods. Rather, the intention is to identify well established methods that are used as the standard methods of analysis. Many of the analytical methods used for environmental samples are the methods approved by federal agencies and organizations such as EPA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Other methods presented in this chapter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The absorbance is proportional to the concentration of the chlorine dioxide in water. Indicators used for this technique include N,N diethyl p phenylenediamine, chlorophenol red, and methylene blue (APHA 1998; Fletcher and Hemming 1985; Quentel et al. 1994; Sweetin et al. 1996). For example, chlorophenol red selectively reacts with chlorine dioxide at pH 7 with a detection limit of 0.12 mg/L. The interferences from chlorine may be reduced by the addition of oxalic acid, sodium cyclamate, or thioacetamide (Sweetin et al. 1996). APHA Method 4500 CLO2 B, iodometric titration analysis, measures the concentration of chlorine dioxide in water by titration with iodide, which is reduced to form iodine. Iodine is then measured colorimetrically when a blue color forms from the production of a starch iodine complex. The detection limit for this method is 20 µg/L (APHA 1998). Introvertive Mysticism Katz The debate in the academic study of mysticism between Steven Katz and Robert Forman consists of Katz s argument that, There are NO pure (i.e. unmediated) mystical experiences (Katz, 26). Further, Katz affirms that mystical experiences are difficult to interpret and are impossible to verify. Comparatively, Robert Forman argues for the existence of what he refers to as Pure Consciousness Events (PCEs) whereby mystical experiences extend beyond language and culture. Katz contends that the major problem of the study of mysticism is the problem of whether or not mystical experiences can be verified when experienced by a person. In like manner, Katz states that accounts of mystical experiences are unreliable because they commonly relate to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Forman defines Pure Consciousness Events as wakeful though contentless (nonintentional) consciousness (Forman, 8). He expands by stating, This is a form of what W.T Stace called introvertive mysticism, which he distinguished from extrovertive mysticism. In extrovertive mysticism one perceives a new relationship one of unity, blessedness, reality, or what have you between the external world and the self. In introvertive mysticism there is no awareness of the external world per se; the experience is of the self itself (Forman, 8). Moreover, Forman explains, Introvertive mysticism denotes a transient state; (after all, no one who eats and sleeps can remain entranced forever), whereas extrovertive mysticism denotes a more permanent state, one that lasts even while one is engaged in activity (Forman, 8). If Forman is right and Pure Consciousness Events are real, then that assumes that anyone can achieve a mystical experience without having a religious or spiritual affiliation. Katz affirms that one must have a spiritual or religious connection or affiliation in order to have a mystical experience and they will only have an experience that results from the persons mental perceptions about the world around them. Forman responds to this by stating, Katz does not specific just which concepts enter into just which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis Essay To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the most recognizable books of all time. Ever since it s July 1960 release date it has been hailed for its genius writing, relatable characters, and narration. The novel is told through the eyes of Scout, a young girl living in the fictional Alabama town of Maycomb, and how she develops during an important time in her childhood. Scout s character will affect the story in many different ways. Her childlike demeanor, strong southern accent, and personality adds to the book s charm and memorability. You will get to see her evolve as a person throughout the entire story. As the only narrator, all of what you know of Maycomb and its inhabitants is through her eyes. Scout is not only the most memorable, but the most important. In To Kill a Mockingbird the primary narrator for the story is Scout. All the characters, settings, and plot are all introduced by Scout. You will come to know these characters through her. Why is that so important? Simple, you are able to see Scout growing up face these challenges internally, instead of externally. Through this story, you understand her emotions and see her learning about the world. This also demonstrates a major conflict she and her family faces and ultimately comes to her own conclusion. We have all been kids once, so we can relate to Scout and her dilemma. • 7. The Great Outdoors O Is for the Great Outdoors In my opinion, we can sort everyone alive into two categories: outdoor people, and indoor people. I fall into the latter category; being a pale, unathletic girl, it is difficult to be anything else. However, despite my genetic averseness to it, I love being outside, soaking in the beauty, and just enjoying God s creation. There are countless ways to appreciate the great outdoors, even an AC lover like me can find ways to love it. One way I have learned to connect with nature is through photography. About a year and a half ago, I discovered my affinity for photography, and I started seeing the way objects interacted and filled the negative space. There is a certain satisfaction rewarded when I take a picture and every detail just falls in line. Nature is art, a photogenic subject waiting to be studied. My band experience has shown me that in some situations, a semi coerced experience can be as benefiting as an experience you plan. In my family, nature is a chosen bonding point. Our vacations do not occur annually, our schedule is normally too occupied, but we do visit scenic sites every few years. This past summer, we stayed in West Virginia for white water rafting. Wines that pair well for Thanksgiving dinner. Still not sure what we mean? Let us simplify. ## Wines That Pair Well For Cooking The Turkey Cooking with wine is a common choice for several meals. Turkey falls into the category of meals that cooked with wine opens up new flavors. Still, not every wine should be used for cooking. In this camp, red wines with high acidity and fruitful flavors work well. Zinfandel wines from Napa Valley or Chile. Rioja wines from Spain are also a great choice. ... Red wines are not as flexible in matching with the different meals a Thanksgiving dinner might have: ham, gravy, potatoes, cornbread, pumpkin pie, cranberry, etc. White wine wins over the red wine. As we stated before, red wine doesn t match well with the whole Thanksgiving dinner experience. White wine allows the pallad to cleanse and taste every plate without the interference of other flavors. The turkey cooked with the red wine also won t step in with the white wine. The red wine loses moistens the turkey and elevates the taste. White wine like Rieslings or Sauvignon Blanc works in these situations. William Blake wrote this poem as a call for a fight against supremacy, and for the rights of the individual for freedom. Blake states in his poem, And casts them out upon the darken d earth! One such event on March 7, 1965, when peaceful participants in a voting rights march from Selma, Alabama, to the state capital in Montgomery were met by Alabama state troopers who attacked them with nightsticks, tear gas and whips after they refused to turn back ( Voting Rights Act ). Bureau chiefs can claim they do not have enough information to make a decision, especially a decision involving other bureaus. This interest groups plead to their Senators and House reps, which takes longer to have the president s policies in place by law. They can also sabotage a president s agenda by leaking unauthorized information. This reduces the president s credibility and forces people to think about the effect of the new information on the policies. Bureaucrats would do these things, because they support their burea more than the president. These bureaucrats sincerely believe in their bureau s purpose and feel they must protect its jurisdiction, programs, and budget at all costs (Heclo 275). The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) defines the knowledge and skills in English language arts and mathematics that students need for success in college and careers upon high school graduation (Santos, Darling Hammond, Cheuk (2012)). The common core was created, to provide clear academic benchmarks with more concise academic standards for essential learning that will prepare students to be college and career ready (Liebtag, E. (2013)). Not only this, but the concept of math also has its visible adversities. According to Robertson, K. (2009), Although it is easy to assume that many English language learners (ELLs) will excel in math because math is a universal language and students may have had prior educational experience that included mathematical instruction, that assumption can lead educators astray . • 15. Foundations Of The Building Transfer FOUNDATIONS The foundations of the building transfer the weight of the building to the ground. While foundation is really a general word, normally, every building has many individual foundations, commonly called footings. Usually each column of the building will have its individual footing. Since the weight of the building rests on the land (or rock), engineers have to study the properties of the soil very carefully to ensure it can carry the loads imposed because of the building. It is common for engineers to determine the safe bearing capacity of your soil after such study. Because the name suggests, this is the amount of weight per unit area your soil can bear. For instance, the safe bearing capacity(SBC) for a location could be 20 T/m2, or perhaps tonnes per square metre. That capacity also changes at different depths of soil. In normal, the deeper one digs, the greater the SBC, unless there are pockets of weak soil in the earth. To properly support a building, the soil must become very firm and strong. It is common for the soil near the top of earth to be loose along with weak. If a building is rested within this soil, it will sink in the earth like a ship in water. Building contractors will commonly dig until they reach quite firm, strong, soil that can not be dug up easily before building a foundation. The Romantic ideals of a flawed society and the impaired human state are prevalent throughout a variety if their works especially Poe s The Man of the Crowd and Ligeia as well as Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown. Within these short stories, Poe and Hawthorne manipulate the novels structure and use devices such as irony diction to assert that selfish and insecure individuals strive to affirm his or her purity by comparing it to the flaws and sins of others and throughout this quest to scrutinize others, an individual unknowingly falls into path of delusion that leads to true corruption. Even though there have been many setbacks to a united Europe, including WWI, WWII, and the Cold War, the realization of a united Europe became a reality with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992 creating the European Union (EU). Furthermore, the progression towards a fully united Europe took another step with the introduction of the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union (EMU), which introduced a common currency, the euro (Bordo). This issue grew rapidly due to the low interest rates offered to members of the EMU after its creation. Although there are a number of different congestion measures, travel time measures offer the best means for estimating the economic impacts of the congestion. There are several reasons for this: 1. Travel time corresponds directly to the traveler s experience of congestion, when measured from a given origin to destination; 2. This cord is an articulation of myriad rules and regulations that are not vulnerable to managerial whimsy or subject to the next new best management practice being promulgated in Ivy League business schools as the enlightened way forward. The Hidden Driver Of Excellence A Summary of Chapters Three and Four in Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence by Daniel Goleman (450) Chapter Three: Attention Top and Bottom In this chapter, Goleman (2015) defines the important differences in the way the brain functions in order to focus on a particular object or event. The neurological function of the brain defines why there is a bottom up mind and top down mind that operates when discerning between differing focus orientation. In this way, Goleman (2015) identifies the bottom up mind as being much faster in deciphering perceived threats or challenges as an involuntary focus: Faster in brain time...involuntary and automatic (Goleman 25). In contrast to this faster mindset, Goleman (2015) the top down mind is much slower, which provides a voluntary attention span that can analyze an event or situation through focus. In this manner, Goleman (2015) is really talking about the involuntary and voluntary neurological functions of the brain that identify the differing aspects of focus that a human possesses. This is an important part of this chapter that allows the reader to understand the brain s ability to discern between two differing focuses options. • 39. Importance Of Visit To A Shinto Church I decided to write about my visit to a Shinto Church as my cultural experience. The church I visited is called Izumo Taisha Mission of Hawaii. I had actually been to this church many times since I was a child to participate in Japanese cultural events, but I have little knowledge of what the Shinto religion actually practices. This is also the shrine where my family goes for our New Year s blessing ritual. Since turning to Christianity, I still liked to attend the church s events and New Year s ritual, but other than that, I just didn t have the desire to learn more about Shinto. Based on my fieldwork into the appearance, clothing, and rituals of Shinto, I theorize that Shinto is religion to focuses highly on keeping one s body and soul pure and in good fortune through worship to multiple God s. When I visited the church, I had scheduled the meet the Bishop, Daiya Amano. He has been a friend of my family for a long time, and he was happy to share the Shinto culture despite knowing I had already chosen my belief. Shinto is one of the two primary religions of Japan, and the church is a good place for tourist and local Japanese to pay their respects to. Shinto is a religion of polytheism and animism, and thus, believes in God s of animate and inanimate objects. Shinto believes that every aspect of life has a God in charge. Few studies in this subject focus on nurses adherence and engagement on using this healthcare information technology to ensure patient safety and delivery of the best care possible (Anderson Willson, 2008). Clinical decision support systems are defined as electronic systems (computer software applications) designed to aid directly in clinical decision making, in which patient s characteristics are used to generate patient specific assessments and recommendations (Bright et al., 2012). Examples of CDSSs include alerts (allergic reaction warnings), reminders (antibiotic order renewal), clinical guideline recommendations, diagnostics support, ... • 41. Neil Postman The End Of Education Summary Introduction: Education in today s day in age has evolved to become an intricate system of developing individual knowledge on social values and academic knowledge in the context of a technologically advanced global society. Neil Postman in his book, The End of Education, argues that the educational crisis is complex and that the technical problem of building academic skills is just a scratch in the surface. Postman believed that schools focused more on teaching economic utility, consumerism, multiculturalism and technology. Postman (1995) also claims that schools in their methods and practices do not necessarily help students in preparing for economic life and that there was no evidence that a quality schooling experience could be associated with positive economic productivity (p.28). Moreover, Postman claims that the value of group cohesion and connectivity with peers is lost with the individualization of computer learning (1995, p.45). Postman believed that learning to accept the world with all its cultural rules, requirements, constraints, and even prejudices; is one of the two things schools must be teaching. The second being, students developing skills to be critical thinkers, which in turn makes them rational, independent minded and problem solving adults (1995, p.60). Postman s views were that education with technology is teaching about how technology assists and restricts students in doing positive or negative things, how education was dealt with in the ... The Effects Of Binge Drinking On College One of my youth pastors told the teens at church on a Wednesday night, Don t start a habit in your younger years that is going to control the way you live your adult years . Whenever I heard this statement, I thought of teens binge drinking in college. College drinking has become a major issue for people under the age of twenty one. Binge drinking becomes addicting, especially for people under the age of twenty one. Understanding the problem and consequences of binge drinking will help to show that lowering the drinking age will not help the problem. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with binge drinking comes consequences. The most common cause for deaths in car accidents is drinking and driving. In Roan s book, Roan states, In 1984, a federal standard was established setting the minimum legal drinking age at 21. Since then, traffic fatalities among drivers ages 18 to 20 have fallen by an estimated 13%, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (Roan ). This statistic is one that shows how lowering the legal drinking age would not solve the problem of binge drinking in college. Most people that are freshman in college start school at 18 or 19. As stated in the previous paragraph, these freshman attend parties or events with older people. These students can be 21 or older and be able to buy alcohol. This can lead to underage drinking. If a student does not live on campus, he or she will have to drive back to their house. They can be giving friends a ride to wherever they need to go, or just driving around goofing off. If they have had an excessive amount of alcohol, they can be endangering the lives of themselves, their friends lives, and other people on the road. If they were to have a car accident, they could kill the other people in the cars involved. They can then be charged with murder. Another consequence of binge drinking is alcohol related death. • 44. Broadway Play Compare And Contrast Essay I watched Broadway Play and Baz Luhrman The first difference I noticed after watching two scenes was the involvement of audience. Broadway Play is a recorded film of a live play in which audiences and actors both exist actors must not only speak their lines to portray and reveal their emotions, but must also speak their lines in a way the audience can understand it. Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, is a film with a purpose to emphasize the theme of Romeo and Juliet with its viewers. There are no restrictions in which actors speak their lines, as long as the main message can be understood by the viewers. Involvement of audience also can be related to how music is being used in the two scenes. In Broadway Play, music seems to be used as a transition between dialogues of characters. The scene first starts off with a lively music, but the sound decreases as Lord Capulet takes control. In Baz Lurhman, music is used to maximize the emphasis on the love of Romeo and Juliet. An example would be when Romeo and Juliet are staring at each other, with an aquarium in between. No words are spoken, but as Romeo and Juliet slowly engage in each other, viewers can easily understand that the two are in love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Society has been taught to strive for that and normally perfection is accompanied by a religion that exemplifies it and the reward tends to be unimaginably amazing. Parts of the child s writing, such as, the grammar used could be overcome by teaching this as a whole class, by year 6 children should write plausible sentences that make sense. Therefore, modelling to the whole class a sentence which isn t clear and asking them to discuss why it is incorrect and what they could do to improve this is a way to get children actively thinking and guiding each other s learning or even allowing the child to proof read their work again to ensure it makes sense in their head before carrying out the previous activity. To help up level punctuation, it would be useful to model a sentence with punctuation including question marks, semi colons, dashes etc. and allow the child to use one of their sentences, in order to up level that by using a variety of punctuation that is set at a year 6 standard within the national curriculum. The child seems to be quite confident with transcriptional areas, apart from the few areas mentioned therefore to help with those particular issues, as a teacher it would be an idea to just mark these areas or highlight them to make it clear that they are incorrect.
