Conflict Between Two Cultures, The Chinese American And...
In American Born Chinese there is a constant struggle between two cultures, the Chinese American
and the white culture. Their interaction yields constructive and destructive results in terms of their
cultural integration. The characters can be separated into two distinct categories, empathizers and
antagonists. Empathizers are the individuals that allow other cultures to exist freely within their city in
the United States. They make no attempts to suppress other s cultural identity, instead, they make
decisions that promote the coexistence of multiple cultures. For example, when Jin Wang went out on
a date with a white girl this would represent two cultures actively working to coexist (Yang 164). In
this case, the girl would be considered an empathizer. On the other side of the spectrum, antagonists
actively attempt to suppress cultures dissimilar to their own. They go out of their way to force
conformity through the use of bullying and exclusion. Peter Garbinsky is an example of an antagonist.
His abuse of Jin Wang catalyzed Jin s transition to conformity rather than identifying with his own
culture. Yang represents both of these groups through their appearance in the graphic novel, more
specifically their eyebrows. Empathizers are given two distinct eyebrows while the antagonists
possess a unibrow. The unibrows represent our progress, or lack of progress, as a society towards
cultural acceptance. Referring to the examples above, Jin s date was given two eyebrows while

Underage Tanning Law
Many teens today feel pressured to live up to society s standards. They believe that perfect hair,
flawless makeup, designer clothes, and bronze skin is required. This is where tanning beds come into
play. About 29.5 percent of teenagers use indoor tanning devices. (Health Day News). However, is the
warm, golden glow going to be achievable any more? State Representatives are considering new
restrictions, and changing existing laws, in regards to teen tanning. These new commands will ban
teens from tanning. Are these bills acceptable? Are they needed? The Senate and Assembly of New
York agreed to ban teens ages 16 years and younger from tanning beds (Precious). Lawmakers in New
Jersey are adding new rules to teen tanning; no one can tan under the age of 17. (N.J. Bans Minors
from Tanning Beds). Therefore, teen tanning bed use is a very controversial topic.
Have you ever felt the false sense of security that [you] may not feel under direct sunlight from a
tanning bed (Jeffrey)? Your body relaxes, you feel serene, and you get a golden glow. Some teens
strive for this feeling...and the tan. Tanning is the skin s response to injury, according to Arielle

Honor Killings Research Paper
An honor killing is an epitomized murder committed against a woman for actual or perceived immoral
behavior that is deemed to have breached the honor code of a household or community. It is the
perpetrators belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon the family name or societal
standard. These so called honor codes are the product of condoning deep seated patriarchal societal
and ethnic injustices, where women are compelled to assume all responsibility for upholding the
morality of an entire culture. It is the most extreme case of gender based violence. Honor killings are
the ultimate sanction against women who are deemed to have offended the collective morality of a

Reflection Of Spiderman Homecoming
Spiderman Homecoming is a 2017 American superhero movie based from Marvel s fictional
character, Spiderman. It was directed by John Watts and starred by Tom Holland who portrayed as
Peter Parker or the man inside the Spiderman suit. The movie started with Peter Parker, who is inside
the Spiderman suit, vlogs about his training and how he get drafted to Avenger by Tony Stark, who is
in the suit of Iron Man. However, Parker decided to resume his studies at the Midtown School of
Science and Technology in New York City. Stark then said that he is not ready to become a full

I applaud Holland s role as Peter Parker because he could be a lazy student and at the same time, a
great hero who could save the city. It had some entertaining actions which won t lead the audience to
be bored. Their all act naturally. They have the facial expression that is right for the character they are
portraying. The plot have some great twists which we never knew would happen or would even shock
us like Adrian Toomes being revealed as Liz s father. These special effects even made the movie more
interesting and colorful. In terms of script, those were so hilarious. They minimized saying foul words.
They said the script clearly so that we could understand what they are saying. Overall, I give the
movie a 4 stars over 5. This is one the best movies I have ever watched in cinemas. From start to
finish, it was hilarious. From Peter Parker s vlog until Aunt May discovered Peter being Spiderman.
The line If you are nothing without that suit, then you shouldn t have it. It means that if you are
nothing without something, you shouldn t have that. The explanation of that is that if you want to be
successful, you should not say that you are nothing without something. You could still contribute
without that thing. It teaches us to be your self. Just because you don t have that thing with you doesn t
mean that you are completely nothing. It could be a test for you whether you can do good without that

Kant On Morality
We will be concerned with Kant s theory on morality and rather or not it is convincing. I will argue
about on how the good will is The only thing that is absolutely good, good in itself and without
qualification, is the good will (pg. 127). All natural virtue, both clever and moral can contribute to
wicked acts. Sometimes we assume that if we are successful in life and happy then that s all we need,
but in order to be successful we need integrity and recognition that can steer us in the direction of
satisfaction. I will argue that Kant s theory on morality is rather very convincing in this paper, how
hypothetical and categorical imperatives are different but a key factor. Likewise, that the principle law

My Hot Family Vacation Essay
A few minutes before we landed at the airport, I looked at the screen in front of me and it showed
33°C . It had been a year since I last experienced that kind of heat and I couldn t bear it last time, so I
wondered how I would cope with the heat this time. As the plane began to slow and turn into terminal,
I could hear people around me start to get there belongings together so that they could get off the
plane first. People returned the magazines to the rack on the back of the chair in front of them and I
turned off my iPod and put it back in my bag. When I took my headphones out, I felt like I was back

When I finally had my passport stamped and got my luggage, I made my way towards the arrivals
hall. The number of people didn t change but in fact looked like more, probably because the hall
stretched out from one end to another. I slowly pulled along my suitcase as I met my uncle and I
followed him to his car. On the way there, we went in a lift which was full of people.
As soon as the door opened, the heat hit me. It was like putting a hot iron in front of my face. But it
felt even worse as there was a slight wind which pushed the heat towards me. My body was
surrounded in a blanket of heat and I even started to sweat slightly. My uncle told me to wait by the
lift as he went to collect the car so I wouldn t have to walk as far and drag my suitcase along. While I
waited, I took time to look around at the surroundings. I could see mountains which stretched towards
the clouds and the airport behind me. There were a vast number of people walking around from their
flight looking drowsy and with no energy. The frequent red double decker bus also came and a few
planes flew above my head. I didn t even have to look, but I could hear the planes departing and
arriving. The planes all looked the same in the sky, big and white with some sort of logo. During the
wait, I took a few steps to take away the cramp. Although I had trainers on, I could feel and see that
the floor was new. The concrete looked

Ever since I took computer science honors over the summer and am in AP computer science now, I
have developed a liking in computer science and what can be done with it. I believe that this can help
us to the best of our advantage to try to help these people: I could make a website with stories,

that, I could raise awareness and start a charity that would donate money to the people of Africa,
which they could utilize to buy basic necessities such as food, water, and shelter, and possibly further

Essay on Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey
After having a thorough read of the novel Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey, I have come to understand the
powerful effects of using written codes and conventions in novels. Silvey s impressive piece of
literature was carefully constructed through techniques such as characterization, socio cultural context,
themes and intertexuality. By doing this, Silvey was accredited for convincing the readers, appealing
to their emotions and manipulating their beliefs and values to accept or agree with his opinions on the
issue covered in the novel. Characters play a major role in ensuring that the novels can be read and
comprehended. However, the success of a novel is dependent on the quality of characterization and

The community also had issues with Vietnamese immigrants due to their different physical features
and the crisis Vietnam was in. For instance, Jeffrey and his family were harassed and Mr. Lu was
beaten by four drunken men. The messages are being conveyed as themes in the novel and Silvey aims
to inform Australians of the consequences for our actions. He explored ideas of racism and
discrimination, inequality, injustice and alcoholism. In the novel, Charlie is distressed to find both of
his friends being insulted and abused for the nationality. For example, Jasper is blames for Laura s
death and for every conflict he is held as scapegoat. In Jeffrey s case, his family is looked down upon
and their reputation as humans is disregarded and degraded. Silvey is trying to highlight the stupidity
of the people and show the importance of giving everyone a fair go. Jasper Jones has strong
intertextual links to an all time favourite but a complex novel to understand, To kill a mocking bird by
Harper Lee. In fact Silvey wrote Jasper Jones as an easier and modern version of To Kill a Mocking

between law and justice, and both, Jasper Jones and TKAMB create a world of moral opposites

John Hughes The Breakfast Club
For this movie reflection essay I chose to write about The Breakfast Club. Directed by John Hughes
and released in 1985, The Breakfast Club is a fast paced drama with comedy mixed in. The Breakfast
Club included lead stars such as Emilio Estevez, Paul Gleason, Anthony Michael Hall, John Kapelos,
Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy. The movie begins with five students who all fit into a
specific stereotypes and have never associated with each other, spending Saturday in detention at

The movie revolves around the five individuals trying break out of their specific stereotypes and
express their own thoughts and emotions, rather than just towing the line of the stereotype they ve
been put into by their parents and friends. Hughes wanted to show people that just because you don t
look or act like someone doesn t mean you can t become friends or find commonalities with that
individual. Furthermore, Hughes shows the benefit of waiting until you understand why an individual
acts or dresses a specific way rather than just assuming their reasons for doing so. Another issue
Hughes touches on is how bad parenting effects these student s lives and personalities. Abuse, neglect,
and pressure are all issues that these students face with their parents and is what has, in part, put them

Rod-Shaped Cell Case Study
1. Under a microscope, you can see a rod shaped cell that is rapidly swimming forward. What do you
automatically know about the bacterium s structure?
How would the bacterium use its flagellum for chemotaxis?
Bacillus is a rod shaped cell. The flagellum on the surface of the bacterium can detect nutrients in the
environment and they are drawn to it when the nutrient concentration is high. It spins its flagella to
swim towards the nutrient. The movement responding to chemical gradient is called chemotaxis.
When the bacterium feels the decrease in nutrient concentration, it will change its direction and orient
to move where it can get a high nutrient source. If it detects a potential toxic chemical it will draw

This is a virus that may cause the formation of papillomas and deadly malignant tumors. A common
term for a papilloma is a wart. The epithelium, or epithelial layer that these warts are found on is the
layer of tissue that lines the outer surface of the body, skin and mucous membranes, as well as hollow
organs, like the stomach or uterus and the body glands. However, the virus itself infects the basal, or
bottom most portion of the epithelium, when the epithelium is traumatized by something like a cut or
micro abrasion. When it touches the area of the skin or mucous membranes that have a papilloma to
any area of your damaged skin, it is a way to get infected. It can get you infected even without visible

Computerizimg the Regitration Process at Universities
The University Student Registration System: a Case Study in Building a High Availability Distributed

Abstract
Prior to 1994, student registration at Newcastle University involved students being registered in a
single place, where they would present a form which had previously been filled in by the student and
their department. After registration this information was then transferred to a computerised format.
The University decided that the entire registration process was to be computerised for the Autumn of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The high availability requirement implies that the computerised registration system must be able to
tolerate a reasonable number of machine and network related failures, and the consistency requirement
implies that the integrity of stored data (student records) must be maintained in the presence of
concurrent access from users and the types of failures just mentioned. It was expected that most
human errors, such as incorrectly inputting data, would be detected by the system as they occurred,
but some off line data manipulation would be necessary for errors which had not been foreseen.
Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying
much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the
registration system. A solution that would require the University buying and installing specialist fault
tolerant computing systems, such as Tandem [1] or Stratus [2] was not considered economically
feasible. The only option worth exploring was exploiting the University s existing computing
resources. Like most other universities, Newcastle has hundreds of networked computers (Unix
workstations, PCs, Macs) scattered throughout the campus. A solution that could make use of these
resources and achieve availability by deploying software implemented fault tolerance techniques
certainly looked attractive.

Common Core State Standards Initiative
Common Core: To Be or Not to Be Politics and education have been intertwined since the
establishment of public education in the United States. In other words, it is a well known fact that
public education is an extension of our political system. This has never been more apparent to the
public than over the last three decades, beginning in 1983 with A Nation at Risk which is considered a
significant event in modern American educational history. For the last few years, it has been the
controversial topic of the Common Core State Standards Initiative in the headlines. One can hardly
turn on the news or read a newspaper or web site without hearing something about Common Core
State Standards (CCCS). People either seem to be adamantly for or against the standards. Educational
reform and educational standards are not new and date back much further than many people realize.
Furthermore, if the public understood what the standards actually encompass, there may be more
support for Common Core State Standards. However, the public is being inundated with a multitude of
reasons why states should not adopt Common Core by making it a political issue in order to gain
votes. Regardless of what standards are adopted, common standards in education should be
implemented in the United States to prepare students for college and career in order to compete and
succeed in a global economy.
Since its inception, public education has continually focused on improving schooling in the United

Low Birth Weight Research Essay
The term low birth weight is used in describing infants weighing less than 5 lbs 8 ounces (2500g)
whereas the average weight is 8 lbs (Stanford, 2015). An infant with a low birth weight has a
significantly higher chance of neonatal and perinatal mortality (Maheswari Behera, 2014). Babies who
do persevere and survive are documented of having inadequate neurosensory, cognitive, behavioral
development and limited school performance (Guyatt Snow, 2004). Shiono and Behrman (1995) state
that infants with low birth weight consist of 7% of live births, however, 35% of the cost of health care
goes towards caring for low birth weight infants. Studies show that African American infants are twice
more than Caucasian infants to have a low birth weight. To bring a life into this world takes more than
conception; sacrifices need to be made, nurturing, and providing a safe home for the child, but many
minorities struggle to fulfill these needs. Health and health care are imperative when it comes to being
an expecting mother; therefore, it is important that to address what influences the birth weight of
African American infants in my research paper. I hope to address how factors such as racial
discrimination within the American health care system, prenatal care, stress, and the age of the mother
contributes to the low birth weight (LBW) disparities between African American infants and
Caucasian infants.

Persuasive Essay On Head Start
Head Start Programs:
All Children Deserve the Same Chance at an Education Head Start programs came about in 1964;
when President Johnson declared a war on poverty. His idea was you must break the cycle of poverty
to win the war. The program s idea was to help break the cycle of poverty by, providing the children of
low income families the ability to meet the emotional, social, health, nutrition, and mental needs. The
Parents also are offered resources in higher education, paying utilities, and other needs that are
essential to succeed. According to The Basic Head Start Facts Sheet 2011, Head Start is the nation s
first national early education and early childcare program. Since then over thirty two million children
have had assistance with the program; therefore, has caused an increase of twenty eight percent in
High School Graduations (Smith 8). Head Starts main goal is to lower the achievement gap between
lower class and middle class children.
Being born in poverty and the disadvantages Smith states that children who are born into poverty
already have a disadvantage. The journal Why Investments in Early Childhood work, 2011, shows that
these children are twenty five percent more likely to drop out of school, forty percent more likely to
become a teen parent, and seventy percent more likely to commit a violent crime in their life.
Therefore, the cycle needs to end. We need to educate ourselves so our children can succeed, and live
a better life than we had. Abbott Shim

Ancient Civilizations Of Mesopotamia And Mesopotamia
Sumerian (3500 2300BC) Babylonian (1792 1750 BC) both belong to civilizations of Mesopotamia,
but they existed different period. The ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia are the source of the
earliest surviving art; these civilizations were situated between the Tigris and the Euphrates Rivers.
Dating back to 3500 B.C.E., Mesopotamian art was intended to serve as a way to glorify powerful
rulers and their connection to divinity. Art was made from natural resources such as stone, shells,
alabaster and marble, and was often created as didactic pieces. No artist signatures can be found on
most of the work, because the pieces were meant to embody the subject matter, rather than the creator.
Popular items that typify this time period include cylindrical seals, steles, narrative relief sculptures,
and lavishly decorated tombs. More than 4,000 years ago the valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers
began to teem with life first the Sumerian, then the Babylonian, Assyrian, Chaldean, and Persian
empires. Here too excavations have unearthed evidence of great skill and artistry. Examples of fine
works in marble, diorite, hammered gold, and lapis lazuliahve been found. Stone, wood, and metal
was imported. Sumerian art and architecture was ornate and complex primarily used for religious
purposes painting and sculpture the main median used. Of the many portraits produced in this area,

Impact Of The Dodge Plan
POST WAR JAPAN S ECONOMIC MIRACLE The Dodge Plan of 1948 In the year 1947, Cold War
unrest had started building up in Eastern Asia that prompted the United States of America to revise its
policies towards Japan in order to accelerate its economic recovery. The Dodge Plan conceived by
Joseph Dodge in 1948 was implemented as a solution to bring Japan back to its complete strength and
economic recovery. The Dodge Plan focused on resolving the serious problem of inflation and
establishing a more stable Japan through three policies. First being a balanced budget, followed by
suspension of new loans from the Reconstruction Finance Bank (this source of supply of money was
identified as the root cause of inflation), and lastly, reducing as well as completely eliminating
subsidies. The above mentioned policies were identified to aid in accelerating the Japanese economy.
Dodge s policies caused problems along the way in its implementation but it created a path for
recovery without the help of America. The Japanese were encouraged to economize and accumulate
capital through such a policy. The Korean War Boom The initial spell of the implementation of the

Use cleaning products that are specifically formulated for alligator leather. The wrong chemicals,
especially those in cowhide leather cleaning agents, can do more harm than good by darkening the
leather and damaging its skin.
Just like human skin, alligator leather can manifest adverse reactions to cleaning products. When using

One coat of wax or polish at a time is generally enough.

To be added under ADVANTAGE OF CAIMAN SKIN heading:
As we have mentioned earlier, caiman leather is relatively cheaper compared to crocodile and alligator
leather. This does not mean that caiman skin is of inferior quality, though. Part of the reason caiman
leather is more affordable is that caimans are not as hard to find. There are farms where caimans are
grown specifically for their skin.
The fact that caiman leather is not as soft or pliable as crocodile and alligator leather does not make
caiman skin low quality. In fact, its rigid body is highly ideal for boots, handbags, and other items that
need to hold their shape.
Also, although caiman leather has smaller tiles, it does have deeper ridges that give it more character
and personality. The Hornback, for instance, is favored by some manufacturers and designers because
of their distinctive scales, which add to the final product s appeal.
Finally, caiman leather has a rich history behind it. Back in the 30 s and the 40 s, it became a popular

your days on earth growing with that one special someone. Unfortunately marriage isn t always so
special. For some, it is a sentence to slavery. Today, one out of every three girls in the developing
world is married before the age of eighteen with the largest concentration existing in Southwest Asia (
United Nations Population Fund ). The marrying of young boys and girls, even in cases where it is not
forced, can lead to physical abuse and torture, health complications and the termination of any
possible future educational endeavors ( International Center for Research on Women , 2006).
For the nation of Pakistan, approximately 21 percent of young girls are married before the age of 18,
and many of these marriages are forced ( Girls Not Brides ). Although this number is lower than the
regional average, the forced marriage problem in Pakistan is highly concentrated in poorer areas,
endangering those who are socioeconomically at risk. Furthermore, Pakistan ranks as the sixth most
populated country in the world, exemplifying the devastating amount of young girls at risk for forced
child marriage. Note that both girls and boys are affected by child marriage, but girls represent the
overwhelming majority of those sold into marriage (Ahmad, 2014).

Journey Through Suburban Life in John Cheever s The Swimmer
The Swimmer, by John Cheever, illustrates one man s journey from a typical suburban life to
loneliness and isolation. This short story is characteristic of John Cheever s typical characterizations
of suburbia, with all it s finery and entrapments. Cheever has been noted for his skill as a realist
depicter of suburban manners and morals (Norton, p. 1861). Yet this story presents a deeper look into
Neddy Merril s downfall from the contentment of a summer s day to the realization of darker times.
The story begins with a scene of midsummer, with the laziness of those who can afford to lounge near

As he continues from pool to pool, each house is described by the various occupants, who most are

The first inclination of a turning lies in the coming storm, the stand of cumulus cloud that city had
risen and darkened, and while he sat there he heard the percussiveness of thunder again (Norton, p.
1864). As he starts again to make his way towards home, he begins to be a bit foggy, wondering what
time it has gotten to be. It is almost as if his mind is clouding over, the imagery of darkness
descending, it was growing dark; it was that moment when the pinheaded birds seem to organize their
song into some acute and knowledgeable recognition of the storm s approach (Norton, p. 1865).
His growing fogginess becomes more apparent as he is unable to recall details of his life, ...and rain

Examples Of Biological Determinism In The 1800s
Biological determinism is the concept that most human characteristics, physical and mental, are
determined at conception by hereditary factors passed from parent to offspring. In the 1800s this was
the mindset of the majority of people. This was applied towards women and education. It was firmly
believed by many Universities and individuals that women should not get an education beyond basic
schooling. Most universities in the United States did not allow female students until the 1830s. It was
believed that because men s brains were bigger and had more grey matter they were superior to
women with a smaller brain size, women were also called childlike because of this size difference.
The thought was also presented that if women were educated

Irgages And Disadvantages Of Alternative Dispute Resolution
1) Alternative Dispute resolution or ADR refers to any sort of action that is utilize instead of a court of
action. The following are advantages to alternative dispute resolution.
One of this advantages is that it allows both parties to obtain some sort of gain because in a court of
action only party would be the beneficiary. Another benefit is that the process would not be as
bureaucratic as it would be on court of action where representatives of the company would also focus
on the case and not in the activities of the company. ADR also provides the ability for the company to
not get negative attention as matters can be keep private. Lawyer and administrative cost would be
greatly reduce because not many lawyers would be need it for negotiations. Furthermore, Alternative
Dispute resolution are often use by companies operating in international markets.
2) Negotiation, refers to the process of having the two sides come to an agreement without the help of
an externality. This could be beneficial to both parties because they can come to an agreement of their
own terms and both side win. Mediation is when a neutral authority brings both sides to the table to
help solve the dispute. Benefits to doing this process, is that the mediator can provide alternatives to
how to solve the dispute, although results are nonbinding. Arbitration is when a third party decides the
outcome of a dispute. For the winning party is an advantage because the decision in not appealable, it

to you so you have an good understanding. Branson is a city located in Missouri, which is a state in
the Midwestern region of the United States which borders the states of Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky,
Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. Branson has a good geography along with an
interesting past and attractions that are worth visiting. Some points that I will cover include the
geography of Branson, the city s history, and a past time that Branson is best known for. Now since we
ve talked about what I will cover in this speech, let s get into the geography of Branson.
Body
Branson is a city located in Taney County which extends into Stone County in the state of Missouri
(which was admitted to the union as the 24th state on August 10, 1821 from Missouri Territory). It s
located in the Ozark Mountains 43 miles south of Springfield, near the Arkansas state line as well as
on Lake Taneycomo, near the Bull Shoals lake, Table Rock Dam, and Table Rock Lake and State
Park. A city of less than 7,000 permanent residents, Branson attracts up to 7 million tourists with
vacationers swelling it s population of 65,000 during peak season The region where the Ozark
Mountains are located is more dramatic than the rest of the central Mississippi valley area. Many
natural springs are in the area due to a vast system of underground rivers underneath the rugged

Nine Algorithms That Changed The Future
In Mathematics is an integral part of of computer science and computer programming. A great
example of this would be how algorithms for computer programs are directly taken from a
mathematics stand point. They are used for calculations and data processing. In the book Nine
Algorithms that Changed the Future by John MacCormick, the author takes the reader through
different algorithms that have made a significant impact on the internet and computer science as a
whole. None of these algorithms would even be possible if it was not for applied or pure mathematics.
Similarly, computer scientist can gain a lot by developing a deeper understanding of mathematical
foundations. According to Wikipedia, applied mathematics is where one studies practical problems,
whereas pure mathematics tends to focus on the ideas or concepts behind these problems. Both play

Numerical analysis can be defined as the design and analysis of techniques to give approximate but
accurate solutions to difficult problems. I find this interesting because by using numerical analysis one
can find different tricks or methods of understanding or solving a problem. Many theories within
mathematics come from numerical analysis. It s been in practice for centuries and without it, simple
mathematical operations such as solving a system of equations might not exist. Furthermore, the
theory of computation also interests me due to the fact that it tests the limitations on what computers
can and can not do. According to Wikipedia, the theory of computation is split into three different
branches: automata theory and language, computability theory, and computational complexity theory.
In fact, one of the most commonly used models used when studying computation is the Turing
machine. This is because it is simpler to analysis and represents everything a computer could

College Sports Is A Multi Billion Dollar Business
Can you list off companies that are worth a billion dollars? I m sure you may be able to list a few. Let
me help you out. Here are ten of the world s most gigantic business in (billions), and they started in a
garage Yankee Candle, Mattel, Maglite, Lotus Cars, Hewlett Packard, Harley Davidson, Google,
Disney, Apple, and Amazon. All huge businesses. However, did you happen to think of college sports?
College sports is a multi billion dollar business. Let me share with you an example. In 2012, the
NCAA men s basketball March Madness tournament in, TV ad earnings along eclipsed $1 billion
(Cheney Rice Zak, Mic.com). Furthermore, in that very same year, The NFL playoffs generated $976
million, while the NBA, MLB and NHL playoffs combined failed to out earn March Madness,
clocking a paltry $991 million (el at,. Rice). I believe the best business model in the world is coming
to the end. It comes down to it; it s the NCAA vs. Student Athletes. I don t agree with the current
business model in college sports for three reasons. First, the term student athlete; does that name really
exist? Second, the money NCAA is making is outrageous; they could pay their players. Lastly, these
student athletes bring more future students to their universities because of college sports.
Nonetheless, what seems to be in my eyes is an apparent employer laborer relationship. An association
that s a professional sports league in virtually everyway but its name the NCAA avoids paying players

The Difference Between Child Abuse And Discipline
Do you know the difference between child abuse and discipline? Child Abuse is when someone
physically and mentally hurts another person. Discipline is teaching someone or something to do the
right thing. Child Abuse is very common in the United States. Many children suffer from bruising,
swelling skin, and broken bones. Situations like this happen because of problems at home or personal
problems. Parents at home abuse their children because of drinking and depression issues. In this
crazy world, there are numerous types of abuses. There is sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and
emotional or psychological abuse. Sexual abuse is an intentional incident that involves sexual
relationship to a child using all their power and taking advantage of them. According to Family
Community Services, Physical abuse is a nonstop injury that happens more than one time. Neglect is a
type of abuse you just don t care or pay no attention to your child. Emotional or psychological harm is
when you make your children think something that isn t true. Discipline children usually do the things
their parents or guardian tell them what to do because they teach them to pay attention and be polite.
Child Abuse is constantly hitting your child for no apparent reason. Many children may tease other
kids at school but they don t know what it is happening at home. They don t know that you are getting
abused at home repetitively. Most of the people may not know but if they do they don t do anything

Chan s article (2016) talked about how identity, efficacy and anger help legitimize and support the
activities of social movements. First, according to social identity theory, if individuals categorized
themselves into the groups they belong to, they would be more motivated to support the group and act
in accordance with the internal goal. In other words, Higher levels of group identification with the in

advocates that language, first and foremost, as a system for communication .

strategies for language acquisition will be used, and this will allow them to learn to use the language
(Communicative Approach, 2006) .
The questionnaire and interview showed that Saúl needs to focus on his listening and speaking

Nietzsche And The Birth Of Tragedy
Austin Tierney Thompson 4970 05 06 2018 Nietzsche and The Birth of Tragedy To argue that Birth of
Tragedy has a central claim; theory is created at the expense of art , is to attempt to reduce its offerings
to an oversimplification of a single thematic component. A central claim is the result of a complete
and settled debate within defined parameters. This is true even if this settlement; subsequently, proves
merely temporary. To be central is to exist at a single point between the outer parameters of
phenomena which must be known or at least defined and agreed upon. There is no single central claim

Environmental Issues Affecting The Exploitation Of...
1 INTRODUCTION There is an increasing energy demands worldwide towards the exploitation of
renewable resources from agricultural and forest remnant. The major components of these remains are
cellulose, lignin and pectin. These materials have paid more interest as an alternative feedstock and
energy source, since they are abundantly obtainable. Large quantities of wastes are produced every
year from the industrial treatment of agricultural raw materials. Most of these wastes are used as
animal feed or burned as alternative for removal. However, such wastes usually have a composition
rich in sugars, minerals and proteins, and therefore, they should not be considered wastes but raw
materials for other industrial processes(Mussatto et al., 2012) (2). Using of residues from agro
industrial sources in bio processes has aroused the interest of the scientific community lately.
Ecological issues and concerns aimed to reducing pollution have boosted the search for clean
Technologies to be used in the production of commodities of importance to chemical, energy and food
industries. This idea makes use of alternative materials, requires less energy, and minimizes pollutants
in industrial effluents, as well as being more economically useful due to its reduced costs (Martins et
al., 2011) (1). Agro industrial wastes are at most composed of complex polysaccharides that might

Laura, and Tom Wingfield all attempt to escape the dull and depressing reality of their situation. They
engage in escapism by fleeting into their own idealistic worlds which push them farther apart.
Similarly, we can detect the same theme in Gaines book, Lesson Before Dying. In this book various
people use escapism to leave their reality and enter this alternate headspace that allows them to feel
free of all of their worries. However, it is soon realized that this facad will never last. In this book,

This central theme of escapism can be paralleled to today s world. The era in which Grant and

racism, prejudice, and the theme of this essay, of escapism. I don t believe that Escapism is necessarily
bad, but it is a natural human quality to want to push out reality. However, forms of escapism can be
dangerous. Substance abuse has become a huge issue within all age groups, but specifically teenagers.
Teen alcohol statistics in the United States show that among 10 million underage drinkers, about 6.5
million of them are binge drinkers and 2 million are classified as heavy drinkers. This is a major issue
that needs to be addressed, and we see that alcohol has the power to ruin lives. Escapism is also found
in other forms of love, which is definitely something Gaines includes in his book. People find and use
love in all different sorts of ways and I personally think that everyone needs some sort of love in their
life, platonic or not. Love gives you the power to escape your hardships, but to also create new
memories, and learn more about yourself. I encourage you to endure your hardships and find it within

Examples Of Outsiders In The Outsiders
What does it take to not be an outsider and to fit in with everybody else? Ponyboy Curtis in S.E.
Hinton s The Outsiders tries to explain that he and his friends, the Greasers, are more than just thugs.
They have low external expectations which also leads to low internal expectations. His friends have
all grown up in poor conditions. His best friend, Johnny, is constantly beat at home and is only himself
when he is with the gang. The Greasers are rivals with the Socs, a rich gang made of rich kids.
Ponyboy thought that the Socs had it made, but after he meets Cherry he finds out that they also have
external and internal expectations that make their lives not so made. Ponyboy and Cherry are outsiders
because they see the world differently than the groups that they are in and have a window to escape
stereotype threat and into society where they will be known as an individual, while Dally and Bob
have decided that they are what their group is and they won t have that window.
Ponyboy Curtis faces stereotype threat because of the actions of the group that he is in. They ll know
we re hoods the minute they see us, I thought (Hinton 58). This quote shows that the Greasers face
stereotype threat because people are scared just at the sight of Johnny and Ponyboy. Stereotype threat

way they dress. It drives my brother Darry nuts when I do stuff like that, cause I m supposed to be

  • 2. Conflict Between Two Cultures, The Chinese American And... In American Born Chinese there is a constant struggle between two cultures, the Chinese American and the white culture. Their interaction yields constructive and destructive results in terms of their cultural integration. The characters can be separated into two distinct categories, empathizers and antagonists. Empathizers are the individuals that allow other cultures to exist freely within their city in the United States. They make no attempts to suppress other s cultural identity, instead, they make decisions that promote the coexistence of multiple cultures. For example, when Jin Wang went out on a date with a white girl this would represent two cultures actively working to coexist (Yang 164). In this case, the girl would be considered an empathizer. On the other side of the spectrum, antagonists actively attempt to suppress cultures dissimilar to their own. They go out of their way to force conformity through the use of bullying and exclusion. Peter Garbinsky is an example of an antagonist. His abuse of Jin Wang catalyzed Jin s transition to conformity rather than identifying with his own culture. Yang represents both of these groups through their appearance in the graphic novel, more specifically their eyebrows. Empathizers are given two distinct eyebrows while the antagonists possess a unibrow. The unibrows represent our progress, or lack of progress, as a society towards cultural acceptance. Referring to the examples above, Jin s date was given two eyebrows while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Underage Tanning Law Many teens today feel pressured to live up to society s standards. They believe that perfect hair, flawless makeup, designer clothes, and bronze skin is required. This is where tanning beds come into play. About 29.5 percent of teenagers use indoor tanning devices. (Health Day News). However, is the warm, golden glow going to be achievable any more? State Representatives are considering new restrictions, and changing existing laws, in regards to teen tanning. These new commands will ban teens from tanning. Are these bills acceptable? Are they needed? The Senate and Assembly of New York agreed to ban teens ages 16 years and younger from tanning beds (Precious). Lawmakers in New Jersey are adding new rules to teen tanning; no one can tan under the age of 17. (N.J. Bans Minors from Tanning Beds). Therefore, teen tanning bed use is a very controversial topic. Have you ever felt the false sense of security that [you] may not feel under direct sunlight from a tanning bed (Jeffrey)? Your body relaxes, you feel serene, and you get a golden glow. Some teens strive for this feeling...and the tan. Tanning is the skin s response to injury, according to Arielle Kauvar, M. D. The exposure of UV rays over time can cause skin cancer. Skin cancer is the growth of abnormal growth of skin cells that forms in the tissue of the skin (Skin Cancer). Melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer, can come from UV rays. • 4. Honor Killings Research Paper An honor killing is an epitomized murder committed against a woman for actual or perceived immoral behavior that is deemed to have breached the honor code of a household or community. It is the perpetrators belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon the family name or societal standard. These so called honor codes are the product of condoning deep seated patriarchal societal and ethnic injustices, where women are compelled to assume all responsibility for upholding the morality of an entire culture. It is the most extreme case of gender based violence. Honor killings are the ultimate sanction against women who are deemed to have offended the collective morality of a group. • 5. Reflection Of Spiderman Homecoming Spiderman Homecoming is a 2017 American superhero movie based from Marvel s fictional character, Spiderman. It was directed by John Watts and starred by Tom Holland who portrayed as Peter Parker or the man inside the Spiderman suit. The movie started with Peter Parker, who is inside the Spiderman suit, vlogs about his training and how he get drafted to Avenger by Tony Stark, who is in the suit of Iron Man. However, Parker decided to resume his studies at the Midtown School of Science and Technology in New York City. Stark then said that he is not ready to become a full avenger. One night, Parker decided to be on his Spiderman suit and saw some guys who attempted to rob the bank. Spiderman then stops them but he somewhat get hurt because the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I applaud Holland s role as Peter Parker because he could be a lazy student and at the same time, a great hero who could save the city. It had some entertaining actions which won t lead the audience to be bored. Their all act naturally. They have the facial expression that is right for the character they are portraying. The plot have some great twists which we never knew would happen or would even shock us like Adrian Toomes being revealed as Liz s father. These special effects even made the movie more interesting and colorful. In terms of script, those were so hilarious. They minimized saying foul words. They said the script clearly so that we could understand what they are saying. Overall, I give the movie a 4 stars over 5. This is one the best movies I have ever watched in cinemas. From start to finish, it was hilarious. From Peter Parker s vlog until Aunt May discovered Peter being Spiderman. The line If you are nothing without that suit, then you shouldn t have it. It means that if you are nothing without something, you shouldn t have that. The explanation of that is that if you want to be successful, you should not say that you are nothing without something. You could still contribute without that thing. It teaches us to be your self. Just because you don t have that thing with you doesn t mean that you are completely nothing. It could be a test for you whether you can do good without that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Kant On Morality We will be concerned with Kant s theory on morality and rather or not it is convincing. I will argue about on how the good will is The only thing that is absolutely good, good in itself and without qualification, is the good will (pg. 127). All natural virtue, both clever and moral can contribute to wicked acts. Sometimes we assume that if we are successful in life and happy then that s all we need, but in order to be successful we need integrity and recognition that can steer us in the direction of satisfaction. I will argue that Kant s theory on morality is rather very convincing in this paper, how hypothetical and categorical imperatives are different but a key factor. Likewise, that the principle law of nature is the core to the categorical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. My Hot Family Vacation Essay A few minutes before we landed at the airport, I looked at the screen in front of me and it showed 33°C . It had been a year since I last experienced that kind of heat and I couldn t bear it last time, so I wondered how I would cope with the heat this time. As the plane began to slow and turn into terminal, I could hear people around me start to get there belongings together so that they could get off the plane first. People returned the magazines to the rack on the back of the chair in front of them and I turned off my iPod and put it back in my bag. When I took my headphones out, I felt like I was back in the real world now as I had been concentrating on listening to music for hours. It seemed like time was going slower and slower ... The number of people didn t change but in fact looked like more, probably because the hall stretched out from one end to another. I slowly pulled along my suitcase as I met my uncle and I followed him to his car. On the way there, we went in a lift which was full of people. As soon as the door opened, the heat hit me. It was like putting a hot iron in front of my face. But it felt even worse as there was a slight wind which pushed the heat towards me. My body was surrounded in a blanket of heat and I even started to sweat slightly. My uncle told me to wait by the lift as he went to collect the car so I wouldn t have to walk as far and drag my suitcase along. While I waited, I took time to look around at the surroundings. I could see mountains which stretched towards the clouds and the airport behind me. There were a vast number of people walking around from their flight looking drowsy and with no energy. The frequent red double decker bus also came and a few planes flew above my head. I didn t even have to look, but I could hear the planes departing and arriving. The planes all looked the same in the sky, big and white with some sort of logo. During the wait, I took a few steps to take away the cramp. • 8. Trip To Uganda Research Paper I am interested in traveling to Uganda because I believe that the trip will give me the opportunity to learn, give, teach, grow, and look at the world in a completely different light. Being around those who are less fortunate than I am will enable me to learn how different people live in different ways, because here, in Vernon Hills, we take basic necessities for granted, like food, water, shelter, and education. By exposing myself to a world without some of these things, I hope to learn no longer take anything for granted. Ever since I took computer science honors over the summer and am in AP computer science now, I have developed a liking in computer science and what can be done with it. I believe that this can help us to the best of our advantage to try to help these people: I could make a website with stories, pictures, and videos that could help convey to an audience about how impacting my trip was, and with that, I could raise awareness and start a charity that would donate money to the people of Africa, which they could utilize to buy basic necessities such as food, water, and shelter, and possibly further their education. The website would be publicized through my social media accounts, and also event programs, which brings me to my other idea. I am part of the computer science club at school and am currently planning a coding event for younger children at our public library, and if it goes well, we will have more events like that. I was thinking that we could could have a charity fundraiser at this computer science event, where all the funds would go directly to our sister school in Africa. Essay on Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey After having a thorough read of the novel Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey, I have come to understand the powerful effects of using written codes and conventions in novels. Silvey s impressive piece of literature was carefully constructed through techniques such as characterization, socio cultural context, themes and intertexuality. By doing this, Silvey was accredited for convincing the readers, appealing to their emotions and manipulating their beliefs and values to accept or agree with his opinions on the issue covered in the novel. Characters play a major role in ensuring that the novels can be read and comprehended. However, the success of a novel is dependent on the quality of characterization and whether they will attract the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The community also had issues with Vietnamese immigrants due to their different physical features and the crisis Vietnam was in. For instance, Jeffrey and his family were harassed and Mr. Lu was beaten by four drunken men. The messages are being conveyed as themes in the novel and Silvey aims to inform Australians of the consequences for our actions. He explored ideas of racism and discrimination, inequality, injustice and alcoholism. In the novel, Charlie is distressed to find both of his friends being insulted and abused for the nationality. For example, Jasper is blames for Laura s death and for every conflict he is held as scapegoat. In Jeffrey s case, his family is looked down upon and their reputation as humans is disregarded and degraded. Silvey is trying to highlight the stupidity of the people and show the importance of giving everyone a fair go. Jasper Jones has strong intertextual links to an all time favourite but a complex novel to understand, To kill a mocking bird by Harper Lee. In fact Silvey wrote Jasper Jones as an easier and modern version of To Kill a Mocking Bird. Many of the characters have parallel personalities and some of the main ideas were the same. Furthermore, Hughes shows the benefit of waiting until you understand why an individual acts or dresses a specific way rather than just assuming their reasons for doing so. How would the bacterium use its flagellum for chemotaxis? Bacillus is a rod shaped cell. The flagellum on the surface of the bacterium can detect nutrients in the environment and they are drawn to it when the nutrient concentration is high. It spins its flagella to swim towards the nutrient. The movement responding to chemical gradient is called chemotaxis. When the bacterium feels the decrease in nutrient concentration, it will change its direction and orient to move where it can get a high nutrient source. C. Little, S. M. Wheater, D. B. Ingham, C. R. Snow, H. Whitfield and S. K. Shrivastava Department of Computing Science, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU, England. Abstract Prior to 1994, student registration at Newcastle University involved students being registered in a single place, where they would present a form which had previously been filled in by the student and their department. After registration this information was then transferred to a computerised format. The University decided that the entire registration process was to be computerised for the Autumn of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high availability requirement implies that the computerised registration system must be able to tolerate a reasonable number of machine and network related failures, and the consistency requirement implies that the integrity of stored data (student records) must be maintained in the presence of concurrent access from users and the types of failures just mentioned. It was expected that most human errors, such as incorrectly inputting data, would be detected by the system as they occurred, but some off line data manipulation would be necessary for errors which had not been foreseen. Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the registration system. A solution that would require the University buying and installing specialist fault tolerant computing systems, such as Tandem [1] or Stratus [2] was not considered economically feasible. The only option worth exploring was exploiting the University s existing computing resources. Like most other universities, Newcastle has hundreds of networked computers (Unix workstations, PCs, Macs) scattered throughout the campus. A solution that could make use of these resources and achieve availability by deploying software implemented fault tolerance techniques certainly looked attractive. ... In other words, it is a well known fact that public education is an extension of our political system. This has never been more apparent to the public than over the last three decades, beginning in 1983 with A Nation at Risk which is considered a significant event in modern American educational history. For the last few years, it has been the controversial topic of the Common Core State Standards Initiative in the headlines. One can hardly turn on the news or read a newspaper or web site without hearing something about Common Core State Standards (CCCS). People either seem to be adamantly for or against the standards. Educational reform and educational standards are not new and date back much further than many people realize. Furthermore, if the public understood what the standards actually encompass, there may be more support for Common Core State Standards. However, the public is being inundated with a multitude of reasons why states should not adopt Common Core by making it a political issue in order to gain votes. Regardless of what standards are adopted, common standards in education should be implemented in the United States to prepare students for college and career in order to compete and succeed in a global economy. • 14. Low Birth Weight Research Essay The term low birth weight is used in describing infants weighing less than 5 lbs 8 ounces (2500g) whereas the average weight is 8 lbs (Stanford, 2015). An infant with a low birth weight has a significantly higher chance of neonatal and perinatal mortality (Maheswari Behera, 2014). Babies who do persevere and survive are documented of having inadequate neurosensory, cognitive, behavioral development and limited school performance (Guyatt Snow, 2004). Shiono and Behrman (1995) state that infants with low birth weight consist of 7% of live births, however, 35% of the cost of health care goes towards caring for low birth weight infants. Studies show that African American infants are twice more than Caucasian infants to have a low birth weight. To bring a life into this world takes more than conception; sacrifices need to be made, nurturing, and providing a safe home for the child, but many minorities struggle to fulfill these needs. Health and health care are imperative when it comes to being an expecting mother; therefore, it is important that to address what influences the birth weight of African American infants in my research paper. I hope to address how factors such as racial discrimination within the American health care system, prenatal care, stress, and the age of the mother contributes to the low birth weight (LBW) disparities between African American infants and Caucasian infants. The program s idea was to help break the cycle of poverty by, providing the children of low income families the ability to meet the emotional, social, health, nutrition, and mental needs. The Parents also are offered resources in higher education, paying utilities, and other needs that are essential to succeed. According to The Basic Head Start Facts Sheet 2011, Head Start is the nation s first national early education and early childcare program. Since then over thirty two million children have had assistance with the program; therefore, has caused an increase of twenty eight percent in High School Graduations (Smith 8). Head Starts main goal is to lower the achievement gap between lower class and middle class children. Being born in poverty and the disadvantages Smith states that children who are born into poverty already have a disadvantage. The journal Why Investments in Early Childhood work, 2011, shows that these children are twenty five percent more likely to drop out of school, forty percent more likely to become a teen parent, and seventy percent more likely to commit a violent crime in their life. The ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia are the source of the earliest surviving art; these civilizations were situated between the Tigris and the Euphrates Rivers. Dating back to 3500 B.C.E., Mesopotamian art was intended to serve as a way to glorify powerful rulers and their connection to divinity. Art was made from natural resources such as stone, shells, alabaster and marble, and was often created as didactic pieces. No artist signatures can be found on most of the work, because the pieces were meant to embody the subject matter, rather than the creator. Impact Of The Dodge Plan POST WAR JAPAN S ECONOMIC MIRACLE The Dodge Plan of 1948 In the year 1947, Cold War unrest had started building up in Eastern Asia that prompted the United States of America to revise its policies towards Japan in order to accelerate its economic recovery. The Dodge Plan conceived by Joseph Dodge in 1948 was implemented as a solution to bring Japan back to its complete strength and economic recovery. The Dodge Plan focused on resolving the serious problem of inflation and establishing a more stable Japan through three policies. First being a balanced budget, followed by suspension of new loans from the Reconstruction Finance Bank (this source of supply of money was identified as the root cause of inflation), and lastly, reducing as well as completely eliminating subsidies. After years of searching for that one special person, you have finally committed yourself to spend the rest of your days on earth growing with that one special someone. Unfortunately marriage isn t always so special. For some, it is a sentence to slavery. Today, one out of every three girls in the developing world is married before the age of eighteen with the largest concentration existing in Southwest Asia ( United Nations Population Fund ). The marrying of young boys and girls, even in cases where it is not forced, can lead to physical abuse and torture, health complications and the termination of any possible future educational endeavors ( International Center for Research on Women , 2006). For the nation of Pakistan, approximately 21 percent of young girls are married before the age of 18, and many of these marriages are forced ( Girls Not Brides ). Although this number is lower than the regional average, the forced marriage problem in Pakistan is highly concentrated in poorer areas, endangering those who are socioeconomically at risk. Furthermore, Pakistan ranks as the sixth most populated country in the world, exemplifying the devastating amount of young girls at risk for forced child marriage. Chan s article (2016) talked about how identity, efficacy and anger help legitimize and support the activities of social movements. First, according to social identity theory, if individuals categorized themselves into the groups they belong to, they would be more motivated to support the group and act in accordance with the internal goal. In other words, Higher levels of group identification with the in group is related to a greater likelihood of engagement (Kelly, 1994). Based on this theory, we decided to expose messages that made our audiences feel like the sharply decreasing oyster population is closely related to their daily life. For example, oysters are beneficial to their health, water environment and plants. Second, Chan suggests higher group efficacy is a stronger predictor of collection actions. For our campaign, we tried to make our audiences feel like they are an indispensable part of our campaign. • 36. Nietzsche And The Birth Of Tragedy Austin Tierney Thompson 4970 05 06 2018 Nietzsche and The Birth of Tragedy To argue that Birth of Tragedy has a central claim; theory is created at the expense of art , is to attempt to reduce its offerings to an oversimplification of a single thematic component. A central claim is the result of a complete and settled debate within defined parameters. This is true even if this settlement; subsequently, proves merely temporary. To be central is to exist at a single point between the outer parameters of phenomena which must be known or at least defined and agreed upon. There is no single central claim that could conceivably be presented as a reference point offering access to anything like a comprehensive insight to all that this work contains. That theory is created at the expense of art is certainly a discernible assertion made by Nietzsche. One possible mode of discernment is offered by the author himself via a comment he makes on another great work on which so many have differing views and approaches; Hamlet:We find the same thing in Shakespeare, whose Hamlet, for example likewise speaks more superficially than he acts, so the lesson of Hamlet, which we have already mentioned, is to be found not in the words themselves but in a profound contemplation and survey of the play as a whole To gain access to Birth of Tragedy, to define its claims and to locate their relationship we must not, of course, ignore the actual text but we certainly need to be mindful of more than that which is simply being said and to be willing to consider and take in to account; the intent of the author in publishing this work, the discernable premises and meanings inherent in its ... • 39. Environmental Issues Affecting The Exploitation Of... 1 INTRODUCTION There is an increasing energy demands worldwide towards the exploitation of renewable resources from agricultural and forest remnant. The major components of these remains are cellulose, lignin and pectin. These materials have paid more interest as an alternative feedstock and energy source, since they are abundantly obtainable. Large quantities of wastes are produced every year from the industrial treatment of agricultural raw materials. Most of these wastes are used as animal feed or burned as alternative for removal. However, such wastes usually have a composition rich in sugars, minerals and proteins, and therefore, they should not be considered wastes but raw materials for other industrial processes(Mussatto et al., 2012) (2). Using of residues from agro industrial sources in bio processes has aroused the interest of the scientific community lately. Ecological issues and concerns aimed to reducing pollution have boosted the search for clean Technologies to be used in the production of commodities of importance to chemical, energy and food industries. This idea makes use of alternative materials, requires less energy, and minimizes pollutants in industrial effluents, as well as being more economically useful due to its reduced costs (Martins et al., 2011) (1). Agro industrial wastes are at most composed of complex polysaccharides that might serve as nutrients for microbial growth and production of enzymes, several microorganisms are capable of using ... Amanda, Laura, and Tom Wingfield all attempt to escape the dull and depressing reality of their situation. They engage in escapism by fleeting into their own idealistic worlds which push them farther apart. Similarly, we can detect the same theme in Gaines book, Lesson Before Dying. This central theme of escapism can be paralleled to today s world. I don t believe that Escapism is necessarily bad, but it is a natural human quality to want to push out reality. However, forms of escapism can be dangerous. Substance abuse has become a huge issue within all age groups, but specifically teenagers. Teen alcohol statistics in the United States show that among 10 million underage drinkers, about 6.5 million of them are binge drinkers and 2 million are classified as heavy drinkers. This is a major issue that needs to be addressed, and we see that alcohol has the power to ruin lives. Escapism is also found in other forms of love, which is definitely something Gaines includes in his book. People find and use love in all different sorts of ways and I personally think that everyone needs some sort of love in their life, platonic or not. Love gives you the power to escape your hardships, but to also create new memories, and learn more about yourself. • 41. Examples Of Outsiders In The Outsiders What does it take to not be an outsider and to fit in with everybody else? Ponyboy Curtis in S.E. Hinton s The Outsiders tries to explain that he and his friends, the Greasers, are more than just thugs. They have low external expectations which also leads to low internal expectations. His friends have all grown up in poor conditions. His best friend, Johnny, is constantly beat at home and is only himself when he is with the gang. The Greasers are rivals with the Socs, a rich gang made of rich kids. Ponyboy thought that the Socs had it made, but after he meets Cherry he finds out that they also have external and internal expectations that make their lives not so made. Ponyboy and Cherry are outsiders because they see the world differently than the groups that they are in and have a window to escape stereotype threat and into society where they will be known as an individual, while Dally and Bob have decided that they are what their group is and they won t have that window. Ponyboy Curtis faces stereotype threat because of the actions of the group that he is in. They ll know we re hoods the minute they see us, I thought (Hinton 58). This quote shows that the Greasers face stereotype threat because people are scared just at the sight of Johnny and Ponyboy.
