Symptoms And Treatment Of Crohn s Disease Essay
Crohn s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that is characterized by inflammation of the
digestive, or gastrointestinal tract. It can affect any part of the GI tract, including the mouth and anus.
However, Crohn s most often affects the end of the small intestine (Crohn s Colitis, 2016). Crohn s
disease does not have a cure and there is no exact cause for the occurring disease. Since the exact
cause of Crohn s disease is unknown, it has been linked to a combination of environmental factors,
immune function and bacterial factors, as well as a patient s genetic susceptibility to developing the
disease (History Cooperative, 2014). Lauren Page is 28 years old. She was diagnosed with Crohn s
disease when she was 24 going on 25 years old and was hospitalized during her birthday week. Her
breaking point was when she could not take the pain any longer. Lauren had a fever of 104.5 and
unbearable abdomen pain. She had also contracted an infection in her bloodstream from developing a
fistula from her vagina to her rectum. They luckily were able to do surgery to correct her fistula. She
had a multitude of tests including: blood work, stool samples, CT scans, MRI, X rays, a balloon test,
endoscopy and countless colonoscopies. Lauren s disease is located in her large intestines. Chron s
disease is not apart of Lauren s family so she was clueless to what it was when she was diagnosed. It
took about a month until they were completely certain that it was Crohn s disease.

Barcode Image Analysis Paper
We had categorized our work into 3 categories to achieve the goal of our project and to make a
complete barcode scanner Glassware to facilitate work ows in the biomedical laboratory. At rst we
were successfully able to scan a sample barcode image through the Glass. Then we had integrated the
Glass with Biobank and
Cryorepository webservice. At last we were able to display the desired information from the
webservice to the Glass display screen. The result of 3 catogories explains in detail below:

6.1 Barcode Image Analysis
In the real test, monochrome barcode image HIV 1722 of Code 128 format was used.
Glass was able to detect the barcode of image size 3.5cm x 7cm, 96 dpi (dots per inch) and bigger than
this. The distance between the barcode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other sample barcodes were also tested. Since, we have used Zbar library for reading barcode, it
had successfully detected EAN 13, UPC A, UPC E, EAN 8, Code 128, Code 39 and QR Code format
barcode. Glass was able to detect the barcode of image size 2.7cm x 3cm with bar height 5, bar
distance 0.20, text size 1.2 mm and a resolution of 300. The image size of 2.5cm x 3cm was also
tested, but Glass was not able to detect this barcode because of the autofocus problem. A sample
barcode detected by the Glass is shown in the gure 13 below:
6.2 Integration with Biobank and Cryorepository
The Biobank and Cryorepository webservice (eurocryoDB) had Apache Axis2 server with the
authentication security. But we had disabled the security authentication in the server for our test and
our program with ksoap2 library was successfully able to retrieve the xml element from the
webservice. The gure below shows the associated xml element of a sample barcode from the

Critical Aspects Of Social Work Essay
One of the key things that stood out for me while doing this course and before has made me realize
that social work is harder than I thought it would be. There are many critical aspects of social work
that help us work with clients. One of the biggest things that have stood out for me was that helping
people is more complicated than I thought there are so many critical things in the process that work to
help others. Therefore it is not as easy as I expected it would be. The main reasons that I wanted to do
this course was because I ultimately wanted to do to help people. I have learned that many factors
come into play in the field of social work, including levels of practice, ethics and critical reflection
and self care. While I have been at university and doing the social work course I come to realize that
the levels of social work are broken down into three different categories they are micro, mezzo and
macro social work, therefore, going from the little picture to the bigger picture stuff which relates to
the system theory. Systems theory allows the client and the social worker can create an interconnected
relationship with all forms (Moore, 2009. P86). From what I have learned is that there are many roles
and responsibilities and power that a social worker has on the person they are helping. Therefore, I
have discovered that a practice framework comes from many different aspects of learning through
university and all throughout our lives. I have learned that

Comparison Of News And ABC News
News broadcast is fundamentally a method in which information can be most quickly transmitted to a
large audience, and regardless the commercial or public roots of the broadcast the basic structure of
the news bulletin remains unchanged. However when taking the key differences in ownership,
financial funding and intended audience into account, the differences in content and delivery of news
are made apparent. To more closely illustrate the specific differences that can be found we will be
comparing the public broadcasts of Triple J and ABC News with the commercial broadcasts Gold FM
and Seven News where the disparity in news priorities is most evident. Gold FM and Triple J are both
FM stations that take advantage of their stereo quality to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the selection of stories has a definite impact, with ABC choosing many serious stories that
would be more suited to its serious, sombre tone, of news reading, it can be seen in their respective
stories on Bronwyn Bishop that Channel Seven while using sound effects with its twitter snapshots.
ABC instead opts for the comedic aspect to be shown through an interview while quickly segueing to
the further political implications. Ultimately all news items presented on both television and radio are
newsworthy and as each bulletin is looking to cater towards a different audience, they have been
compiled with different intentions so it cannot be said that one news bulletin is superior to another.
Depending on the news and issues that are important to said audience a different news bulletin will be

George S. Patton Jr, Visionary Leadership
George S. Patton Jr, Visionary, Not Ethical Leadership General Patton once said Moral courage is the
most valuable and usually the most absent characteristic in men (A quote by George S. Patton Jr, n.d.)
He did not know that would describe both his positive example of visionary leadership and his
inability to practice ethical leadership all at the same time. His performance during World War II
offers great examples of his visionary leadership by utilizing inspirational motivation, idealized
influence, and overall embodying transformational leadership. Despite his influence, he illustrated a
lack of ethical leadership by falling into the ethical dilemma of competing values and not using the 5
Step Ethical Decision Making Process. General Patton was a visionary leader that showed a lack of
ethical leadership, which motivates me into being a better leader in the Wing Inspector Generals (IG)
office. To do so, a better understanding of his visionary leadership is required.
Visionary Leadership General Patton s actions during World War II led using his ability to be a
visionary leader through transformational leadership tactics that were years ahead of current tactics.
According to Axelrod (2006), he was given the nickname Old Blood and Guts for telling those under
his command that they will be up to their necks in blood and guts (Axelrod, 2006, p. 2). Patton s
intention for such colorful inspiration was to push his troops to strive for the extraordinary. General

Gop Pros And Cons
Q 1: The support of religious conservatives leaning more towards the GOP rose during Reagan s 2
term presidency and the years that followed. By capturing the religious right, Reagan set precedence
for expanding the conservative base of the Republican Party (McAdam and Kloos 212). By stressing
their activist and organizational movement skills, the Christian Right were able to develop and solidify
more of an influence over the GOP, pushing the GOP in a rightward direction.
Termed as Reagan realignment moved the South from majority Democratic electorate to a reliably
Republican region due in part from Reagan s growing popularity with southern constituents (213).

Economic inequality seemed to be in a decline or general phasing off starting from the mid 1930s.
However, in part due to the Reagan presidency and regime changes, starting 1981 we have seen a
steady rise in economic inequality in America between the haves and the have not s. Economic
inequality is only emphasized as data shows severely concentrated gains as those in the top .1 and .01
percent earn[ing] four and a half, and nearly seven times, respectively, that of their counterparts of
three decades earlier (234). McAdam and Kloos only emphasizes this growing inequality over a
multitude of statistics that offers compelling evidence that convinces me that not only economic
inequality has been on the rise for some years now but also shows that there is a possible connection
to the slow release revolution of the Reagan administration. While I do not believe that all economic
inequality can be traced back to the Reagan administration, I do believe that it had a key part in
changing the political landscape that would only seek to provide a prime breeding ground for
economic inequality to flourish in America. Poverty also has a way of rising health inequality, as those
with lower income do not have the discretionary spending

The Evolution Of Comedic Self Representation Of Minorities...
The Evolution of Comedic Self Representation of Minorities
Over the past 70 years, there has been great change in comedy especially for African Americans and
other Non American races. During the early days of comedy, many of these people were considered to
be minorities during that era. This influenced many comedic stints of that time which over the years
have evolved to catch up with the modern day society. Some of these include the humor, the topics
discussed and also epithets. Over the years many comedians have emerged from this group of
minorities and have played a major factor in the evolution of comedy itself and how the different
minorities have evolved from being quiet to playing a great part in show casing their lifestyle.
Compared to the past, there has been a great change in comedy from the old times of Dick Gregory to
the modern times of Aziz Ansari.
Through the years, many comedians have used their talent to address many issues that faced the
society and express their ideologies in a rather subtle manner. This was difficult as many tried to avoid
the situation of coming out as racists. According to the Jonathan Paul Rossing in the article Dick
Gregory and Activist Style, Dick Gregory emerged in the early 1950s where he used the platform to
portray his ideologies to the public (58). Considering his political activism, he used rib cracking
humor to enlighten the public on many issues that faced the African American society at the time
(Rossing 59). He mostly

Taking a Look at a Shamrock Organization
A Shamrock Organization Charles Handy is an author and philosopher who specializes in
organizational behavior and management. He has written several books that help companies succeed
in creating relationships with their employees that are similar to communities rather than just entities
on a mission for profit. Most of his working life was spent in Britain, where he became a
spokesperson for management. Charles Handy was rated among the Thinkers 50, a list of the most
influential management thinkers. In 2001 he came second to Peter Drucker. Charles Handy is married
to Elizabeth, a photographer, who he has collaborated with on a number of his most notable works.
Together, they have a son, Scott, who is an actor. Scott has played with the Royal Shakespeare
Company. Handy studied at Oriel College in Oxford where he obtained a first class honor in Greats, a
study of classics, history, and philosophy. Unlike most influential individuals to management and
business in general, Handy actually lacks a lot of business background. Peter Drucker once said that
Handy was a man practicing the scholarship of common sense. This is apparent in the majority of his
works by the use of his use of elaborate metaphors and easily understandable writing style. He uses
metaphors and parables related to his work experiences or life experiences to teach a lesson to his
audience. The way Handy tells a story is captivating and every part of the story is relevant to the

Holocaust Migration Research Paper
Migration: Communist Cleanse
World War II: Yet another instance of mass relocation and genocide of an ethnic group. But what
about after the Holocaust? In December 1944, Prime Minister Winston Churchill stood on the world s
stage and announced the largest forced population transfer in human history the ethnic cleansing of
post war Germany (Douglas). Up until the 1970 s or so, resources written in English on this particular
involuntary migration were nonexistent; even in Europe, the subject is considered taboo.
British, American, and Russian governments officialized the controversial decision to expel between
12 15 million Germans from both their homeland and surrounding countries at the Potsdam
Conference in 1945. The allied nations of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most began championing right wing politics, which value tradition... survival of the fittest, and...
economic freedom (Nicklin). Others began working peacefully towards the reconstruction of post war
Germany and recognizing those displaced all around Europe (specifically Poland). At about the same
time the Cold War was getting cold, an increasing number of German expellees began to speak up
about their forgotten holocaust. Many created organizations that demanded compensation for their
suffering, especially in West Germany. Still, the Allies kept the discussions to a mum; some (such as
Czechoslovakia) continued to justify the cleansing as a fit punishment for Nazi crimes and refused to
acknowledge the atrocity as anything more. After the fall of the U.S.S.R. and the reconciliation of East
and West Germany, the subject became a slightly more open topic. After the Nuremberg Trials in 1945
concluded that forced immigration was a crime against humanity, the issue could no longer be
ignored... or so it seemed. Today ethnic cleansing is considered a crime against international law,
although some consider the forced expulsion of Germans after WWII to have been a legal procedure at
the time (seeing as such crimes were not addressed by the UN Declaration of Human Rights nor the
European Convention on Human Rights in 1950). The expulsion continues to make appearances in
modern politics, especially in Europe; for instance, a declaration in 1997 by the Czech Republic has
effectively closed the topic and attempted to restrict legal claims made by German descendants (
Germans Expelled ). Still, these immigrants, along with their children, continue to try and demand the
property confiscated from them during the

them to give me their word that explain America since they have been here, they said, lazy, separated

The Good Life Montaigne Analysis
The good life is one of stability and the failure to be affected by forces and circumstances beyond the
control of the individual. This has been clearly stated beginning with Socrates, stating how each life
should be lived with self purpose: no outside influences. The artificial goods represent that of wealth,
status, and political power, whereas what an individual should cherish is their own personal beliefs
and convictions. All items that society has taught a person to hold and respect create more damage and
disruption than they benefit as they can easily be taken from oneself. A fortune can be lost, the
President will run out of terms, but the moral holding of each person is something that cannot be lost
or stripped by a force outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, stating that a human has desire not only to attain a flourishing life, but also to appreciate what
surrounds them daily. He believes that every person has the craving for knowledge, but that each can
only learn a limited amount about Nature and how it operates. Montaigne later says, In her [Nature]
promises and threats there is great uncertainty, variability and obscurity, (Montaigne 1243).
Knowledge is so limited to each individual because Nature is constantly changing; changing what it
has to offer at any given time. It is not right or fair to live a life in which no material items are
cherished or respected. It is necessary to acknowledge that objects such as wealth, power, and social
status allow for a more comfortable life. However, like Boethius, Montaigne also accepts that these
material possessions are only temporary and will not be with the one forever. That is why they need to
be recognized while such Fortunes exist, but one should not allow oneself to become attached or
dependent upon such items. He contradicts Plato s platform stating, I hate being told to have our
minds above the clouds while our bodies are at the dinner table, (Montaigne 1257 1258). Plato, like
Socrates, believes in only focusing on what cannot be taken from an individual. Montaigne is
beginning to break free of the mold previously set by other philosophers and does not accept their way
of thinking. Although he does believe that societies goods should not take over one s life it is crucial
to accept them to live the good life. Montaigne believes that all things in life were placed by Nature
gives all that is needed. Therefore, to ignore temporary material possessions is nothing more than to
break Nature s laws. (Montaigne

Another point is that, it brings in bureaucratic complexity. In addition to direct financial costs, there
may be additional bureaucratic complexities necessitated by the need to coordinate and control core
activities with additional activities. This tends to waste time and resources of GIA which could have
otherwise been used for productive activity.
SUGGESTIONS
Mr. Chairman, I m not only here to make worse an already worst situation, but also to provide
suggestions to possible solutions to saving GIA.
Firstly: Formation of a new management team to replace the old Since there were so many problems
associated with the previous management and several complaints about their incompetency; instead of
divesting, a new management team should be put in place with a control mechanism in place to check
against corruption. This proposed new management will possess the requisite expertise and adequate
knowledge in the aviation industry to move GIA forward into its denied glory.
Mr. Chairman, in addition to this: GIA could also practice CODE SHARING. According to Wikipedia,
Code sharing or codeshare is an aviation business term for the practice of multiple airlines selling
space on the same flights, where a seat can be purchased on one airline but is actually operated by a
cooperating airline under a different flight number or code. It allows greater access to cities through a

F 22 Raptor Acquisition Essay
The initial production of 750 F 22 aircraft envisioned in the 1970, ended to 187 in 2009. From 2009 to
2012, two important factors prompted civilian leadership decision to reduce F 22 Raptor procurement
quantities from 339 aircraft to 187 aircraft.
The DOD strategy for development of the F 22 was to create a fifth generation fighter with
revolutionary capabilities that would put it to a decadeΒ΄s leap ahead of any foreseeable threat.
However, the F 22 Raptor development strategy resulted in a significant cost increases and schedule
delays. The program costs increases and schedule inefficiency in weapon system acquisitions, as well
as reductions in Defense spending caused the failure of the F 22 Raptor acquisition strategy.

This high risk development strategy resulted in significant cost increases and schedule delays.
The cost increases and schedule inefficiency in the weapon system acquisition, over the years reported
problems and issues associated with the F 22A development program. In 1986, the program was
expected to complete development in nine years for an estimates cost of $12.6 billion. After taking 19
years to complete development, by December 2005, development costs reported at $26.3 billion 109
percent more than expected. The result of these inefficiencies in the acquisition program was a loss of
buying power, as the reduced quantity of aircraft would require a significant higher unit cost than
expected.
Also, the changes in procurement quantities over time and allocate both development and procurement
costs to those changing procurement quantities showed the trend of average total acquisition unit costs
and procurement costs. The Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) buy to budget acquisition strategy
placed a ceiling on total program costs resulting in procurement quantities reduced from 750 aircraft
(1986) to 187 aircraft (2010).
This caused average procurement unit costs (APUC $88.6 million to 186.9 million, BY2005$) and
program acquisition unit costs (PAUC $122.7 million to $366.7 million, BY 2005$) per aircraft to
increase dramatically from 1992 to 2009. Fly away unit cost in 2010 was $14 million (BY2010$).

Both Simon and Leonard Mead, when solely with their thoughts, are able to foresee the heinous ways

The Measure of Aggression
The construct that is in question is the measure of aggression. Aggressiveness has been a popular
disposition for study because it can be closely linked to observed behavior. An aggressive behavior
has generally been defined as a behavior that is intended to injure or irritate another person (Eron,
Walder, Lefkowitz, 1971). Aggressiveness, then, is the disposition to engage frequently in behaviors
that are intended to injure or irritate another person. The one difficulty this definition presents for
measurement is the intentionality component. Whether or not an observed behavior injures or irritates
another person can usually be determined without much difficulty, but the intention behind the
behavior may be more difficult to divine, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

may not be fully aware of their actions in the past and how they truly relate to the question being

Overview of the Scale: The Aggression Questionnaire was developed by Buss and Perry in 1992, to
replace the Hostility Inventory, consists of 29 items concerning self reports of behavior and feelings,
which are completed along a five point scale (5: very often applies to me to 1: never or hardly applies
to me ); two items are reverse scored. There are four subscales, physical (9 items), verbal (5 items),
anger (7 items), and hostility (8 items). The first two are concerned with behavior (e.g., I have
threatened people I know, and I often find myself disagreeing with people ), and the other two with
feelings (e.g., anger: I have trouble controlling my temper ; hostility: I am sometimes eaten up with
jealousy ). The questionnaire is intended for the general public to ascertain the level of aggression and
what subscales of aggression the person exhibits. This can be used in a clinical setting and/ or as a

What Is Tesla s Induction Coil
Tesla originally experimented with induction coils, similar to those found in ignition coils in internal
combustion engines. He decided to power this setup with a high speed alternator he was developing.
However, the high frequency melted the iron core and the insulation between the primary and
secondary windings of the coil. To solve the problem, Tesla removed the insulation and replaced it
with an air gap. He also designed the setup so that the iron core could be moved. Additionally, he
discovered that he needed to place the capacitor between the alternator and primary windings to avoid
burning out the coil. Adjusting the coil and capacitor allowed Tesla to use resonance to attain higher
frequencies. He later relocated to Colorado after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, his idea was to utilize a large central Tesla coil to send electricity across the globe. Anyone
who needed to use it would only need a receiving coil to convert it into a useful form. Tesla was aware
of the range limitations of the coils, and his idea of countering that was to simply make giant coils.
Tesla attempted construction of Wardenclyffe Tower, a coil standing 168 feet tall. The tower, if
completed, would have been the largest Tesla Coil in history to have been constructed. Little is known
of the project, as they kept the public and media away from it. However, Tesla was unable to complete
the tower, as his funding was cut off by his supporter, J.P. Morgan, who ultimately deemed the project

Patriot Essay
Martin, a veteran of the French and Indian War, thinks of himself as a battle weary peacenik (his eldest
son joins the army against his wishes), but if he believes in liberating the colonies from the tyranny of
King George III, he believes even more fervently in smiting the holy bejesus out of the soldiers who
have torn his family apart. That these aristocratic oppressors happen to be the same redcoats who are
fighting to quash the American Revolution is, shall we say, a matter of the highest moral convenience.
Written by Robert Rodat ( Saving Private Ryan ) and directed by the heavy tromping blockbuster
maestro Roland Emmerich ( Independence Day, Godzilla ), The Patriot is set in fields, forests, homes,
and backwaters, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, the opposing armies, in their red and blue uniforms, line up in stately rows, absurdly
organized, like marching bands with muskets. As the guns crack and the soldiers fall, the battles
become a stately ritual of mass suicide. The revolutionary forces are the underdogs, ragged and barely
equipped. It s Martin who has the idea of uniting a militia to stage pinpoint ambushes in the woods.
Attacking by stealth, he becomes a fearsome legend, a ghost of a fighter. In one juicy scene, he sneaks
out of hiding for an impromptu negotiation with Lord General Cornwallis (Tom Wilkinson), who leads
the British troops in the South. Cornwallis is actually an honorable fellow, and that s his problem. He
approaches armed conflict like a gentleman; he believes in war as a civilized assertion of Empire.
What he can t wrap his mind around, because it has barely existed before, is the notion of a soldier
who fights as an individual, without rules.
As long as it stays on the battlefield, The Patriot is a brutishly compelling broad canvas entertainment.
But the movie is also inflated with clichΓ©s from the screenwriter s manual. There s the motley crew of
loutish colorful proles who join Martin s militia, the squeaky clean romance between Martin s soldier
son (Heath Ledger) and a local lass (Lisa Brenner), the vacuously noble slave turned soldier (Jay
Arlen Jones) who counts down the months before he s freed from servitude, and, of

The Big Ideas Of Professional Learning Communities By...
In his article, Richard DuFour outlines the big ideas that represent the core principles of professional
learning communities. He explores how the core principles of professional learning communities
guide school efforts to sustain the professional learning community model until it is embedded in the
school culture.
He identifies 3 Big Ideas of Professional Learning Communities: (1) Ensuring That Students Learn,
(2) A Culture of Collaboration, and (3) A Focus on Results
Big Idea #1: Ensuring That Students Learn
The professional learning community model flows from the assumption that the core mission of
formal education is not simply to ensure that students are taught but to ensure that they learn. Focus on
Learning

Social Strain Theory And Rational Choice Theory In...
Criminology is an interdisciplinary science that gathers and analyzes data on crime and criminal
behavior. As I learned about criminology I learned that there are several theories that come along with
it. The two theories in criminology that stood out the most to me were social strain theory and rational
choice theory. These theories stood out to me because I felt like these were two that I can truly see
how the people who developed them came about. Social strain theory was created by Robert Merton
in the 1940s. Robert Merton is a very famous sociologist who accomplished a lot throughout his
career. He spent a lot of his time studying at Colombia University. He also was the first sociologist
that received a National Medal of Science Award. Merton came up with the strain theory as an
explanation as to why crime rate was so high. Rational choice theory was created by Ronald Clarke
and Derek Cornish. Ronald Clarke was a professor who severed as a dean at the School of Criminal
Justice. He was there was longer than a decade. Clarke also had a very successful career. An important
and most noted part of his career is him being given the highest award in criminology. The highest
awards was the Stockholm Prize in Criminology. Clarke has also written several books and help
developed several things in Britain s government. Cornish worked in the department of social science
at London School of Economics. Rational choice theory was created to explain why and how every
human who commits a crime is faced with a choice.
Theory A
Social Strain Theory is one of the many theories in criminology. According to our textbook, the
definition of social strain theory better known as strain theory is that crime is generated from the
acceptance of middle class values that emphasize financial success while certain segments of the
population are restricted from attaining monetary success by legitimate means. Essentially this means
that everybody does not have the same opportunities. It means that sometimes people do want to
achieve more but it hard for them. As you grow, one of the main things you are taught as a child is the
American Dream. The dream that tells you one day you will be successful with a family and good job
to support.

My Consequences Of Crafting
My attention on crafting was it was, though, I almost failed to notice the trio of seven foot tall
dinosaurs skulking through the bush on the right side of the road... Almost. One was closing in from in
front and to the right, behind to the right, and the last almost directly to the right A pincer with the one
in the center to finish me off. Definitely not something a friendly lumbering herbivore would do. No
siree. I glanced left and right, eyeing the six foot fencing on either side with slack, rusted cables that
gave little comfort. And looking up the road I could see two wide breaks in the fence where the poles
were flat out gone. Trampled down most likely. The thing was as holed as swiss cheese. So it was
useless, and then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The first had called out and... yes, the other had been in retreat as well, but at the call, the other two

might be telling each other they were retreating. A dinosaur whatever person would probably be
dancing in glee. They never quite left, though. As I walked they ghosting in and out of range, lingering
at the edge of my awareness until I rebuffed them. Interesting, in a different sense, but they weren t
quite pushing it. Watching how they acted, I almost wanted to say they were testing how the swarm
reacted when they got too close. But that level of pattern recognition... Communication was one thing,
but that was a bit much. Nearing a junction in the road the sock on my right foot slipped down under
my heel, but I ignored it. Instead, I stopped at the fork to look down both roads, standing on the rail

Cheating Is A Hot Topic
Cheating
Introduction
Cheating is a hot topic these days. There is much pressure on a student or child to perform well in
class. Not only does the pressure build academically, but physically on the sports field. As parents, are
we encouraging this behavior because we want our student to do well and achieve the end goal of
being recognized or to receive a scholarship? I see it happening and depending on who the
child/parent is, I might say something, because the end result could result horribly. I can remember a
time, and I am dating myself here, back in high school, I remember it distinctly. I was a sophomore at
Portage Northern High School. I was sitting in Mr. Sterner s Spanish class and we are about to take a
test. Let me advice, Spanish was not a fun class, especially when it is not as interactive as the classes
our children are attending today. Our teachers/professors have learned a few things since the 80 s.
However, I am preparing for a test and yes, I cheated. I purposely wrote answers on the top of my note
book where it just shows indentations of the words I needed. Did I get caught?, YES! Mr. Sterner
pulled me aside after class and directly asked if I did. I wasn t going to lie, but flat out told him that I
did not feel confident or prepared for this exam. I knew others were cheating, but I was one that got
caught and remorse did set in. I was probably more fearful of my parents finding out than anything
else. Yikes! Looking back, I would have a

Economic perspective of Climate change Climate is an average weather condition during a region in a
given period, it will not change by one day or one night, but instead caused through over time. From
the perspective of meteorology, The climate change refers to a specific location, time of regional or
global climate change or conversion, based on the all of the conditions associated with the average
weather characteristics, such as temperature, wind and precipitation etc. According to the IPCC s
Synthesis Report, Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions have increased since the pre industrial era,
driven largely by economic and population growth, and are now higher than ever. This has led to
atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide that are unprecedented in at
least the last 800,000 years. Their effects, together with those of other anthropogenic drivers, have
been detected throughout the climate system and are extremely likely to have been the dominant cause
of the observed warming since the mid 20th century (Page4) Human are the main reason to cause the
climate change. While during the climate changing in naturally, human activities have altered the
chemical composition of the atmosphere, causing the today s climate change. And this change is not

Calypso and Circe in Homer s Odyssey Essays
Calypso and Circe
The islands of Circe and Calypso in Homer s Odyssey are places where Odysseus most challenging
problems occur. In contrast to battles with men, Cyclops, or animals, sexual battles with women are
sometimes much more difficult to win. These two female characters are especially enticing to
Odysseus because they are goddesses. Though it is evident that Odysseus longs to return to Penelope
in Ithaka, it sometimes appears that he has lost vision of what life was like with a wife, a son, and with
thousands of people who regard him as King. Although his experiences on the islands of these
goddesses were similar in that he was retained from Ithaka for the longest periods of his adventure,

At first it appears as though the only reason Odysseus sleeps with Circe is to regain his companions,
but she easily persuades them to stay. And what s even worse is the fact that Odysseus isn t even the
first one ready to go. His men are the ones who urge him to leave: What ails you now? It is time to
think about our own country . So though at a glance it appears that Odysseus is merely succumbing to
Circe s schemes for reasons related to their health and well being, if we read between the lines, we
soon begin to realize that Odysseus is weak in the voracious hands of lust.
Odysseus arrives on Calypso s island alone, after the loss of his men and ship. Calypso rescues him
and loves and cares for him in her cave. At first, it seems like Odysseus doesn t seem much to mind
her taking care of him, but over time it is plainly evident that he is unhappy with her. When Hermes
arrives on Calypso s island to give her the message from Zeus to release Odysseus, he is bawling on
the beach a day long activity for him. Calypso is holding him with her by force; she has no
companions to help him back to Ithaka, nor has she a ship to send him in. Athena pleads with Zeus to
give Odysseus good fortune, saying that he lies away on an island suffering strong pains in the palace
of the nymph Kalypso, and she detains him by constraint, and he cannot make his way to his country,
for he has not any ships by him, nor any companions who can convey him back

Black bears in BC have a population that is 9 times that of the grizzlies, however, the results show that
the grizzlies have inflicted 9.7 times more attacks on humans in the past 16 years. This goes to show

Christianity And The Rise Of Christianity Essay
Christianity in the 21st century is the largest religion in the world and has over two billion followers.
Christians classify themselves under 34,000 different denominations. This popular religion is all about
the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When a religion is born so is a holy book to remember
it by. The bible is considered the word of God and is known for its infamous stories and sayings. The
Bible contains rules and righteous acts to live by. Many question as to how Christianity spread and to
what extent did Jesus Christ and his apostles go through in order to gain followers. A major reason for
the spread of Christianity was because people seeked comfort in the promise of the afterlife and found
the need to preform charitable deeds euphoric. Jesus Christ founded Christianity which later on began
to spread its meaning around the Roman Empire by his apostles. Jesus Christ was also born a Jew in
about 7 B.C and almost all of his followers at that time were Jews as well. Jesus Christ also observed
the Jewish faith and was very well experienced with the Jewish law. Jesus Christ s mission was made
to spread the word of God to mankind. As converts to Christianity increased, the religion as well
began to spread. This all began somewhat 2000 years ago in what is now Israel but was at that time,
Judea. Christianity was quite linked to Judaism; they both shared similar rules and meanings to what
the religions held. The emperor of Rome was Nero, who was famously

Women In Popular Culture
Objective male narration reduces women to apparitions not only in these works, but in most of today s
media. The standard defense for such blatant sexism is that it is a product of its time (Berlatsky 2).
This defense reasons that Conrad and Orwell, who respectively published their works in 1899 and
1948, could not have been expected to write any differently. By delineating the past as completely
benighted and the present as completely beknighted, contemporary readers ignore that this issue still
exists (Berlatsky 5). Gender inequality persisted in 1899 and through 1948, but it is still around today
and will be for centuries to come. Because men were the main authors and audience in 1899 and 1948,
the male narrative had a monopoly over other perspectives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Women still experience the same marginalization; the monster just has a different face. The video
game industry serves as a great example of this. Anita Sarkeesian is the founder of Feminist
Frequency, a website hosting video commentary that analyzes the portrayal of women in popular
culture, primarily video games. One of her video series, Video Game Tropes Today, explains with
countless examples the many ways women are objectified and pushed aside in video games. They
become rewards for players; if a player achieves a certain goal, he unlocks sexual clothing or a racy
cut scene depicting the female characters. In addition, Sarkeesian lists several games that began with a
female lead eventually swapped out for a male character during the design stage. In these games,
producers reduce the female lead to a damsel in distress for the male to rescue. Just like 1984 and

I Am A Holistic Thinker
3. How does your orientation in these 6 areas compare with the expectations of our society? (School,
jobs, relationships) Explain.
My orientation in the six areas may or may not compare with the expectations of our society. I am
time oriented. This is a very American way of thinking. American schools, businesses, and homes
often have a clock in every room, and nearly everyone wears a watch. Each day is organized into time
periods of specific length, and use of each period is fully planned. Anniversaries, dates, and historical
chronologies also have special importance.
I am a holistic thinker. This orientation tends to be present in Hebrew and other non western cultures
while dichotomistic thinking lies primarily in the west. This tends to be because westerners tend to use
the left hemisphere of the brain which is analytical, logical, precise, and time sensitive, while the non
western cultures use the right hemisphere which is holistic, emotional, pattern recognition, and
sensory. Although hemispheric dominance limits the creativity of individuals and cultures, the general
tendency is towards extremes. Western schooling and religious denominations suppress the concrete,
emotional, and synthetic thinkers, while non western cultures suppress their analytic and abstract
thinkers.
I am also more non crisis oriented than crisis oriented. My orientation is seen more in non American
societies. An example is the American military system. They have a set code of

Amendments Of The Fifth Amendment
This Amendment was passed by Congress on September 25, 1789 and was ratified by the states
December 15, 1789. It is a part of the Bill of Rights, the first Ten Amendments of the Constitution.
The Fifth Amendment has five sections or clauses. Clause number one The right to a Grand Jury
Hearing. The Grand Jury decides whether to indict a person. This is not a trial. The exception to this
clause is, land or naval forces in service during time of war or public danger. Article 1 Section 8 gives
the authority for the use of Military Courts for the Armed Forces. This denies military personnel the
same rights as civilians. Clause number two is the Double Jeopardy Clause. This protects you from
being prosecuted twice for the same crime after conviction or acquittal, or multiple punishments for
the same crime. This does not count if one is a civil case and one is a criminal case. A person can be
prosecuted by the state and the federal government if he/she has committed a crime in state and
federal jurisdiction. Usually the federal side will concede to the state and not prosecute. Clause
number three is the Self Incrimination Clause. This clause protects from a person that has been
accused of a crime from being forced to testify against him/herself. We are innocent until proven
guilty, it is the job of the state or federal governments to prove guilt. Words can be changed in ways
physical evidence cannot. Information from sobriety tests, voice samples etc. are admissible in court,

What Was The Fall Of The Roman Empire
The Fall of the Roman Empire
The Roman Empire, at its highest, was prosperous and extremely powerful. Its extensive territories,
strong economy and government structures, and huge bureaucracy, formed a stable empire of utmost
greatness. Augustus formally started the Roman Empire in 27 BC and it was a mighty empire for a
long time until it eventually fell in 476 AD. The fall of the Roman Empire was gradual and caused by
a variety of factors, however leadership failure was the major contributor overall.
The Roman Empire had quite a number of insane and inarguably autocratic emperors, beginning with
Tiberius, Augustus son in law. Tiberius was cold and paranoid, and immediately dissipated all the
prestige of Rome that Augustus had built before him. He disposed of anyone he did not like and was
referred to by the Romans as Old Goat. Next in line was Tiberius grandnephew, Caligula, who carried
the role of Princeps to an extreme. Caligula ordered the public to address him as God and wanted his
horse to be elected as consul to show that the Republic was dead. He constantly mocked the
government and essentially had no real conscience. Then Nero later took the leadership role as the
youngest man to become emperor at the age of 16. At first, his moves were good, then there was a
sudden shift from his virtuous ways to insanity. In 64 AD, there was a fire in Rome, the cause
unknown, and Nero recited lines from Homer as his city went up in flames. He also regularly had

Community Health in the Event of a Sars Outbreak Essay
Community Health in the Event of a SARS Outbreak The SARS Outbreak of 2003 SARS (Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome) is a respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus, originally reported in
Asia in February 2003 and spread to over two dozen countries before being contained (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2005). Once infected, individuals with SARS initially develop
a high fever and other flu like symptoms including headache, body aches and overall feeling of
discomfort before, in most cases, progressing to pneumonia (CDC, 2005). The disease was first
diagnosed in a middle aged man who had flown from China to Hong Kong. A few days after the
announcement of the disease, rumors and panic began to spread, causing ... Show more content on

14). Routes of Transmission In the laboratory setting, the virus was found in respiratory droplets,
feces, saliva, tears and urine (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). SARS is primarily spread through close, personal
contact, such as kissing, hugging, eating or drinking, as well as being within 3 feet of a person who
coughs or sneezes while infected and shedding the virus. These activities allow the respiratory
droplets shed during these activities to come in contact with mucous membranes found in the eyes,
nose and mouth (Kutsar, 2004). Other modes of transmission include aerosolizing procedures in
hospital settings and contamination of surfaces in healthcare facilities, households and other closed
environments (Kutsar, 2004, para. 12). There has been no confirmation of fecal oral transmission or of
transmission via water or food; however, over one third of the earliest cases in China were among
food handlers (Kutsar, 2004). Finally, there is a possibility of animal vector transmission, as discussed
in regards to the Hong Kong s Amoy Gardens (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). Effect of Outbreak on
Community The SARS outbreak caused major effects on the communities affected. Based on the 2003
outbreak, one can assume similar issues would develop should the disease recur. The biggest impact to
communities affected would be the strain on the healthcare system. Since SARS is a largely
respiratory disease, it can cause very serious problems in the patients infected, requiring

Analysis Of Cathedral And The Handsomest Man Drowned
Point of view is an integral tool that is used by authors to express an individual s feelings, emotions,
and thoughts throughout the story. It gives the reader an understanding of a character s development.
The first person point of view is limited to one character as it draws the reader into the mind of one
character s thoughts and emotions. Third person narration may be omniscient or limited. The third
person omniscient tells the story in which the narrator is aware of the thoughts and feelings of all the
characters, while limited third person is restricted to the thoughts of certain characters. The use of the
first person narration and third person limited omniscient may at first seem restraining because it only
presents one or a limited number of character s thoughts and feeling. However, the use of first person
narration in Cathedral and the use of limited third person perspective in The Handsomest Man
Drowned in the World, is effective because both provides a deeper insight into character s feelings,
thoughts, and opinions. These choices of narration also aid a reader in relating to the characters, and
helps convey the central theme of the story.
First person narrators are the characters who have very limited knowledge about other characters and
convey the story in the perspective of I and we. In Cathedral, Carver uses the first person narration to
reveal information about the narrator s personality. The opening scene of the story makes it apparent
that the

Homeostatic Imbalances. Hypertension and Diabetes Essay
Hypertension is a common health problem especially among people over age of 60 years. This disease
is diagnostic when a patient blood pressure is more than 140 to 159 over 90 to 99. Blood pressure
refers to the pressure that blood applies to the inner walls of the Diabetes is an endocrine system
disorder that occurs when the body is unable to control or balance the amount of sugar in blood and
within bodily tissues. You know that the human body is like a machine, with organ systems that are
specialized in certain functions, and interact with each other to allow all vital functions to happen. For
the body to stay healthy, it is essential that its internal environment is stable and balanced despite the
different changes that can occur inside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

arteries. When this pressure is over the limits, it is very dangerous and can increase the risk of heart
failure, heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. For that reasons I would like that you understand what
the reason of your problem is. When the heart beats too hard and fast, the levels of blood pressure
increase. In normal conditions our body has a complex system of regulation that allows the levels of
pressure back to the normal ranks. This system which is known as negative feedback is responsible for
achieving balance in our bodies even if external or internal changes occur. When any internal or
external factor makes the blood pressure rise, we have specialized cells located in the walls of some
blood vessels that are able to detect the problem and send nerve impulses to the brain which sends
nerves impulses to the heart and blood vessel that receive the information. As a result, the heart rate
decrease, the blood vessels dilate, and the blood pressure goes down. Finally, the body goes back to
the balance condition that is called homeostasis. In your case this natural process does not occur and

The Process Of Learning How I Read And Write
The process of learning how to read and write
Speaking and expressing oneselves in verbal communication, is not an activity as simple as we think it
might be. In fact speaking takes to the brain a noticeable quantity of effort to be completed every time
we feel the necessity or instinct to communicate with worlds with an other human beings. The brain is
one of the most powerful Central Processing unit existing in the world. Reading and writing than are
activities vay more tiresome and articulated compared to the mere capacity of speaking. Not for a
coincidence a person at first learn how to speak, than write, and at the end to read. Generally childrens
learn those skills during the first years of elementary school and they keep working and evolving them
during the course of their educational life. Although this is a reality that is completely distant to the
one associated to the way in which Alexie, Malcom X, and Douglass achieved their competence in
literacy. The unconventional method through which they learned the art of reading and writing was a
way more extreme and complex path from the one that anyone else at their age would have had.
The three authors mentioned above, all comes from disadvantaged backgrounds that prevented them
to get their instruction and found shelter in books stories when they were alone. They all were all men
who truly loved to read. Sherman Alexie and Malcolm X, both started to understand books with
pictures in comic books and journals, reading

New-Hire Onboarding and Information Security Essay
New employees, full time or non employee contractors, present a number of risks in regards to
information security. These risks can be mitigated with well designed and thorough interview and
onboarding processes. An organization s human resources department must have guidelines in place
for interviewers and hiring managers to follow to allow for high risk potential candidates to be filtered
out prior to hiring. The importance of information security as part of the hiring process is so
important; the PCI Security Council has implemented a section in hits reference guide to maintain PCI
compliance. PCI DSS Section 12.7 states, Screen employees prior to hire to minimize the risk of
attacks from internal sources (PCI Quick Reference Guide, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Employees and non employee contract workers must all be vetted to ensure they do not pose threats to
the organization s physical and information assets. It is up to the organization to determine what levels
of access or levels of restriction should be in place on employees and contractors post hire. These
levels should be identified prior to the hiring process to drive how thorough the candidate screening
should be. The amount of background checks and reference checks for a waiter at a restaurant may not
be as thorough as those of a candidate for a network engineering role in the restaurant s corporate
headquarters IT department. Once a position s scope of work and access has been determined, the job
must be posted to receive responses from interested candidates. It is important for the posting to avoid
revealing access privileges to prospective employees when it advertises open positions (Whitman
Mattord, 2011, p494). The job description must contain specifics about the job and its duties while not
divulging too much detail that may open a part of the organization to risk by providing sensitive
details. Interviews are used as a tool to identify a candidate to hire, usually based on a field of
potential candidates resumes. The interview is a good resource for the hiring manager and human
resources to talk with candidates one on one to verify if the candidate actually matches some of the

Electronic Communication Privacy Act Summary
With the advancement of technology employers are now able to store access and monitor employees
actions on company computing systems. In 1986, The Electronic Communication Privacy Act (ECPA)
was introduced which disallow the intentional interception of any wire, oral or electronic
communication , it provides an exemption that permits right to monitor employees in the course of
business (Beesley, 2012). According to the act, if the employee is using equipment owned by the
employer then employer is allowed to monitor an employee s use of computer or phone for a valid
reason. Also, if employer has obtained prior written consent from employee to monitor employee
computer usage then they are legally authorized to do so. Johnson (2015) lists

  • 2. Symptoms And Treatment Of Crohn s Disease Essay Crohn s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that is characterized by inflammation of the digestive, or gastrointestinal tract. It can affect any part of the GI tract, including the mouth and anus. However, Crohn s most often affects the end of the small intestine (Crohn s Colitis, 2016). Crohn s disease does not have a cure and there is no exact cause for the occurring disease. Since the exact cause of Crohn s disease is unknown, it has been linked to a combination of environmental factors, immune function and bacterial factors, as well as a patient s genetic susceptibility to developing the disease (History Cooperative, 2014). Lauren Page is 28 years old. She was diagnosed with Crohn s disease when she was 24 going on 25 years old and was hospitalized during her birthday week. Her breaking point was when she could not take the pain any longer. Lauren had a fever of 104.5 and unbearable abdomen pain. She had also contracted an infection in her bloodstream from developing a fistula from her vagina to her rectum. They luckily were able to do surgery to correct her fistula. She had a multitude of tests including: blood work, stool samples, CT scans, MRI, X rays, a balloon test, endoscopy and countless colonoscopies. Lauren s disease is located in her large intestines. Chron s disease is not apart of Lauren s family so she was clueless to what it was when she was diagnosed. It took about a month until they were completely certain that it was Crohn s disease. ... There are many critical aspects of social work that help us work with clients. One of the biggest things that have stood out for me was that helping people is more complicated than I thought there are so many critical things in the process that work to help others. Therefore it is not as easy as I expected it would be. The main reasons that I wanted to do this course was because I ultimately wanted to do to help people. I have learned that many factors come into play in the field of social work, including levels of practice, ethics and critical reflection and self care. While I have been at university and doing the social work course I come to realize that the levels of social work are broken down into three different categories they are micro, mezzo and macro social work, therefore, going from the little picture to the bigger picture stuff which relates to the system theory. Systems theory allows the client and the social worker can create an interconnected relationship with all forms (Moore, 2009. P86). From what I have learned is that there are many roles and responsibilities and power that a social worker has on the person they are helping. Therefore, I have discovered that a practice framework comes from many different aspects of learning through university and all throughout our lives. I have learned that ... He did not know that would describe both his positive example of visionary leadership and his inability to practice ethical leadership all at the same time. His performance during World War II offers great examples of his visionary leadership by utilizing inspirational motivation, idealized influence, and overall embodying transformational leadership. Despite his influence, he illustrated a lack of ethical leadership by falling into the ethical dilemma of competing values and not using the 5 Step Ethical Decision Making Process. General Patton was a visionary leader that showed a lack of ethical leadership, which motivates me into being a better leader in the Wing Inspector Generals (IG) office. To do so, a better understanding of his visionary leadership is required. Visionary Leadership General Patton s actions during World War II led using his ability to be a visionary leader through transformational leadership tactics that were years ahead of current tactics. According to Axelrod (2006), he was given the nickname Old Blood and Guts for telling those under his command that they will be up to their necks in blood and guts (Axelrod, 2006, p. 2). • 9. The Evolution Of Comedic Self Representation Of Minorities... The Evolution of Comedic Self Representation of Minorities Over the past 70 years, there has been great change in comedy especially for African Americans and other Non American races. During the early days of comedy, many of these people were considered to be minorities during that era. This influenced many comedic stints of that time which over the years have evolved to catch up with the modern day society. Some of these include the humor, the topics discussed and also epithets. Over the years many comedians have emerged from this group of minorities and have played a major factor in the evolution of comedy itself and how the different minorities have evolved from being quiet to playing a great part in show casing their lifestyle. Compared to the past, there has been a great change in comedy from the old times of Dick Gregory to the modern times of Aziz Ansari. Through the years, many comedians have used their talent to address many issues that faced the society and express their ideologies in a rather subtle manner. This was difficult as many tried to avoid the situation of coming out as racists. In December 1944, Prime Minister Winston Churchill stood on the world s stage and announced the largest forced population transfer in human history the ethnic cleansing of post war Germany (Douglas). Up until the 1970 s or so, resources written in English on this particular involuntary migration were nonexistent; even in Europe, the subject is considered taboo. Others began working peacefully towards the reconstruction of post war Germany and recognizing those displaced all around Europe (specifically Poland). At about the same time the Cold War was getting cold, an increasing number of German expellees began to speak up about their forgotten holocaust. Many created organizations that demanded compensation for their suffering, especially in West Germany. Still, the Allies kept the discussions to a mum; some (such as Czechoslovakia) continued to justify the cleansing as a fit punishment for Nazi crimes and refused to acknowledge the atrocity as anything more. After the fall of the U.S.S.R. and the reconciliation of East and West Germany, the subject became a slightly more open topic. The expulsion continues to make appearances in modern politics, especially in Europe; for instance, a declaration in 1997 by the Czech Republic has effectively closed the topic and attempted to restrict legal claims made by German descendants ( Germans Expelled ). This has been clearly stated beginning with Socrates, stating how each life should be lived with self purpose: no outside influences. The artificial goods represent that of wealth, status, and political power, whereas what an individual should cherish is their own personal beliefs and convictions. All items that society has taught a person to hold and respect create more damage and disruption than they benefit as they can easily be taken from oneself. He believes that every person has the craving for knowledge, but that each can only learn a limited amount about Nature and how it operates. Montaigne later says, In her [Nature] promises and threats there is great uncertainty, variability and obscurity, (Montaigne 1243). Knowledge is so limited to each individual because Nature is constantly changing; changing what it has to offer at any given time. It is not right or fair to live a life in which no material items are cherished or respected. It is necessary to acknowledge that objects such as wealth, power, and social status allow for a more comfortable life. However, like Boethius, Montaigne also accepts that these material possessions are only temporary and will not be with the one forever. That is why they need to be recognized while such Fortunes exist, but one should not allow oneself to become attached or dependent upon such items. He contradicts Plato s platform stating, I hate being told to have our minds above the clouds while our bodies are at the dinner table, (Montaigne 1257 1258). Plato, like Socrates, believes in only focusing on what cannot be taken from an individual. Montaigne is beginning to break free of the mold previously set by other philosophers and does not accept their way of thinking. Although he does believe that societies goods should not take over one s life it is crucial to accept them to live the good life. Montaigne believes that all things in life were placed by Nature gives all that is needed. Therefore, to ignore temporary material possessions is nothing more than to break Nature s laws. In 1986, the program was expected to complete development in nine years for an estimates cost of $12.6 billion. After taking 19 years to complete development, by December 2005, development costs reported at $26.3 billion 109 percent more than expected. The result of these inefficiencies in the acquisition program was a loss of buying power, as the reduced quantity of aircraft would require a significant higher unit cost than expected. Aggressiveness, then, is the disposition to engage frequently in behaviors that are intended to injure or irritate another person. There are four subscales, physical (9 items), verbal (5 items), anger (7 items), and hostility (8 items). The first two are concerned with behavior (e.g., I have threatened people I know, and I often find myself disagreeing with people ), and the other two with feelings (e.g., anger: I have trouble controlling my temper ; hostility: I am sometimes eaten up with jealousy ). • 19. What Is Tesla s Induction Coil Tesla originally experimented with induction coils, similar to those found in ignition coils in internal combustion engines. He decided to power this setup with a high speed alternator he was developing. However, the high frequency melted the iron core and the insulation between the primary and secondary windings of the coil. To solve the problem, Tesla removed the insulation and replaced it with an air gap. He also designed the setup so that the iron core could be moved. Additionally, he discovered that he needed to place the capacitor between the alternator and primary windings to avoid burning out the coil. Adjusting the coil and capacitor allowed Tesla to use resonance to attain higher frequencies. He later relocated to Colorado after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, his idea was to utilize a large central Tesla coil to send electricity across the globe. Anyone who needed to use it would only need a receiving coil to convert it into a useful form. Tesla was aware of the range limitations of the coils, and his idea of countering that was to simply make giant coils. Tesla attempted construction of Wardenclyffe Tower, a coil standing 168 feet tall. The tower, if completed, would have been the largest Tesla Coil in history to have been constructed. Little is known of the project, as they kept the public and media away from it. However, Tesla was unable to complete the tower, as his funding was cut off by his supporter, J.P. Morgan, who ultimately deemed the project impractical. He scrapped the tower in an attempt to pay off his debts. Despite the failure of his great dream, Tesla s work would live to be used in radio transmission. The exact circuit used in a Tesla coil can be found in virtually every radio. His work resulted in the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Guglielmo Marconi s patent on radio, as Telsa s work predated Marconi s. An example of a large coil that survives today can be found at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, California. It is capable of amplifying its input current by over 2,000 times, turning 248 volts into around 500,000. While not built by him, this coil is an indirect monument to a colossal dream by a man way ahead of his time that ultimately proved to be his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Patriot Essay Martin, a veteran of the French and Indian War, thinks of himself as a battle weary peacenik (his eldest son joins the army against his wishes), but if he believes in liberating the colonies from the tyranny of King George III, he believes even more fervently in smiting the holy bejesus out of the soldiers who have torn his family apart. That these aristocratic oppressors happen to be the same redcoats who are fighting to quash the American Revolution is, shall we say, a matter of the highest moral convenience. As the guns crack and the soldiers fall, the battles become a stately ritual of mass suicide. The revolutionary forces are the underdogs, ragged and barely equipped. It s Martin who has the idea of uniting a militia to stage pinpoint ambushes in the woods. Attacking by stealth, he becomes a fearsome legend, a ghost of a fighter. In one juicy scene, he sneaks out of hiding for an impromptu negotiation with Lord General Cornwallis (Tom Wilkinson), who leads the British troops in the South. Cornwallis is actually an honorable fellow, and that s his problem. He approaches armed conflict like a gentleman; he believes in war as a civilized assertion of Empire. What he can t wrap his mind around, because it has barely existed before, is the notion of a soldier who fights as an individual, without rules. As long as it stays on the battlefield, The Patriot is a brutishly compelling broad canvas entertainment. But the movie is also inflated with clichΓ©s from the screenwriter s manual. There s the motley crew of loutish colorful proles who join Martin s militia, the squeaky clean romance between Martin s soldier son (Heath Ledger) and a local lass (Lisa Brenner), the vacuously noble slave turned soldier (Jay Arlen Jones) who counts down the months before he s freed from servitude, and, of ... • 22. Social Strain Theory And Rational Choice Theory In... Criminology is an interdisciplinary science that gathers and analyzes data on crime and criminal behavior. As I learned about criminology I learned that there are several theories that come along with it. The two theories in criminology that stood out the most to me were social strain theory and rational choice theory. These theories stood out to me because I felt like these were two that I can truly see how the people who developed them came about. Social strain theory was created by Robert Merton in the 1940s. Robert Merton is a very famous sociologist who accomplished a lot throughout his career. He spent a lot of his time studying at Colombia University. He also was the first sociologist that received a National Medal of Science Award. Merton came up with the strain theory as an explanation as to why crime rate was so high. Rational choice theory was created by Ronald Clarke and Derek Cornish. Ronald Clarke was a professor who severed as a dean at the School of Criminal Justice. He was there was longer than a decade. Clarke also had a very successful career. An important and most noted part of his career is him being given the highest award in criminology. The highest awards was the Stockholm Prize in Criminology. Clarke has also written several books and help developed several things in Britain s government. Cornish worked in the department of social science at London School of Economics. Rational choice theory was created to explain why and how every human who commits a crime is faced with a choice. Theory A Social Strain Theory is one of the many theories in criminology. According to our textbook, the definition of social strain theory better known as strain theory is that crime is generated from the acceptance of middle class values that emphasize financial success while certain segments of the population are restricted from attaining monetary success by legitimate means. Essentially this means that everybody does not have the same opportunities. It means that sometimes people do want to achieve more but it hard for them. As you grow, one of the main things you are taught as a child is the American Dream. The dream that tells you one day you will be successful with a family and good job to support. ... Not only does the pressure build academically, but physically on the sports field. As parents, are we encouraging this behavior because we want our student to do well and achieve the end goal of being recognized or to receive a scholarship? I see it happening and depending on who the child/parent is, I might say something, because the end result could result horribly. I can remember a time, and I am dating myself here, back in high school, I remember it distinctly. I was a sophomore at Portage Northern High School. So though at a glance it appears that Odysseus is merely succumbing to Circe s schemes for reasons related to their health and well being, if we read between the lines, we soon begin to realize that Odysseus is weak in the voracious hands of lust. The standard defense for such blatant sexism is that it is a product of its time (Berlatsky 2). This defense reasons that Conrad and Orwell, who respectively published their works in 1899 and 1948, could not have been expected to write any differently. By delineating the past as completely benighted and the present as completely beknighted, contemporary readers ignore that this issue still exists (Berlatsky 5). Gender inequality persisted in 1899 and through 1948, but it is still around today and will be for centuries to come. • 37. I Am A Holistic Thinker 3. How does your orientation in these 6 areas compare with the expectations of our society? (School, jobs, relationships) Explain. My orientation in the six areas may or may not compare with the expectations of our society. I am time oriented. This is a very American way of thinking. American schools, businesses, and homes often have a clock in every room, and nearly everyone wears a watch. Each day is organized into time periods of specific length, and use of each period is fully planned. Anniversaries, dates, and historical chronologies also have special importance. I am a holistic thinker. This orientation tends to be present in Hebrew and other non western cultures while dichotomistic thinking lies primarily in the west. This tends to be because westerners tend to use the left hemisphere of the brain which is analytical, logical, precise, and time sensitive, while the non western cultures use the right hemisphere which is holistic, emotional, pattern recognition, and sensory. Although hemispheric dominance limits the creativity of individuals and cultures, the general tendency is towards extremes. Western schooling and religious denominations suppress the concrete, emotional, and synthetic thinkers, while non western cultures suppress their analytic and abstract thinkers. I am also more non crisis oriented than crisis oriented. My orientation is seen more in non American societies. An example is the American military system. They have a set code of ... Its extensive territories, strong economy and government structures, and huge bureaucracy, formed a stable empire of utmost greatness. Augustus formally started the Roman Empire in 27 BC and it was a mighty empire for a long time until it eventually fell in 476 AD. The fall of the Roman Empire was gradual and caused by a variety of factors, however leadership failure was the major contributor overall. The Roman Empire had quite a number of insane and inarguably autocratic emperors, beginning with Tiberius, Augustus son in law. Tiberius was cold and paranoid, and immediately dissipated all the prestige of Rome that Augustus had built before him. He disposed of anyone he did not like and was referred to by the Romans as Old Goat. Next in line was Tiberius grandnephew, Caligula, who carried the role of Princeps to an extreme. Caligula ordered the public to address him as God and wanted his horse to be elected as consul to show that the Republic was dead. He constantly mocked the government and essentially had no real conscience. Then Nero later took the leadership role as the youngest man to become emperor at the age of 16. At first, his moves were good, then there was a sudden shift from his virtuous ways to insanity. In 64 AD, there was a fire in Rome, the cause unknown, and Nero recited lines from Homer as his city went up in flames. He also regularly had concerts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

SARS is primarily spread through close, personal contact, such as kissing, hugging, eating or drinking, as well as being within 3 feet of a person who coughs or sneezes while infected and shedding the virus. These activities allow the respiratory droplets shed during these activities to come in contact with mucous membranes found in the eyes, nose and mouth (Kutsar, 2004). Other modes of transmission include aerosolizing procedures in hospital settings and contamination of surfaces in healthcare facilities, households and other closed environments (Kutsar, 2004, para. 12). There has been no confirmation of fecal oral transmission or of transmission via water or food; however, over one third of the earliest cases in China were among food handlers (Kutsar, 2004). Finally, there is a possibility of animal vector transmission, as discussed in regards to the Hong Kong s Amoy Gardens (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). Effect of Outbreak on Community The SARS outbreak caused major effects on the communities affected. Based on the 2003 outbreak, one can assume similar issues would develop should the disease recur. The biggest impact to communities affected would be the strain on the healthcare system. Since SARS is a largely respiratory disease, it can cause very serious problems in the patients infected, requiring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Analysis Of Cathedral And The Handsomest Man Drowned Point of view is an integral tool that is used by authors to express an individual s feelings, emotions, and thoughts throughout the story. It gives the reader an understanding of a character s development. The first person point of view is limited to one character as it draws the reader into the mind of one character s thoughts and emotions. Third person narration may be omniscient or limited. The third person omniscient tells the story in which the narrator is aware of the thoughts and feelings of all the characters, while limited third person is restricted to the thoughts of certain characters. The use of the first person narration and third person limited omniscient may at first seem restraining because it only presents one or a limited number of character s thoughts and feeling. However, the use of first person narration in Cathedral and the use of limited third person perspective in The Handsomest Man Drowned in the World, is effective because both provides a deeper insight into character s feelings, thoughts, and opinions. These choices of narration also aid a reader in relating to the characters, and helps convey the central theme of the story. First person narrators are the characters who have very limited knowledge about other characters and convey the story in the perspective of I and we. In Cathedral, Carver uses the first person narration to reveal information about the narrator s personality. The opening scene of the story makes it apparent that the ... This system which is known as negative feedback is responsible for achieving balance in our bodies even if external or internal changes occur. When any internal or external factor makes the blood pressure rise, we have specialized cells located in the walls of some blood vessels that are able to detect the problem and send nerve impulses to the brain which sends nerves impulses to the heart and blood vessel that receive the information.
