Classic Bubonic Plague
The black death was one of the deadliest plagues there s been, in the mid 14th century the plague
spread around the world traveling from china to Europe, this plague was responsible for the death of
more than one third of the population of Europe and the middle east. At this time there were a lot of
Christians and Muslims at this time and places it affected both very badly but they reacted to the
plague very differently. The black death had a lot of names some include The Great Pestilence , the
great plague and the black death.in five short years this plague killed between 25 and 45 percent of
population it encountered including children and women .Historians believe that the black death was
caused by bacterial strains and this strains came from the stomach and certain fleas of rotten but more
specifically the black rat. The black death was a combination of 3 plagues Bubonic,Pneumonic and
septicemic one deadlier than the other one.

Thesis Statement On Sea Cucumbers
I aspire to be a scientist who makes real connections between seemingly disparate problems or
challenges and finds human value in scientific knowledge. For my doctoral research, I want to study
unfamiliar marine organisms in unfamiliar habitats to contribute to new knowledge and discover new
species. To these ends, I will connect my graduate thesis on sea cucumbers with my ongoing research
on mesophotic reefs. Sea cucumbers (Echinodermata: Holothuroidea) are diverse worm like organisms
that evolved and diversified for over 400 million years. Mesophotic reefs are found at 30 to 150 meter
depths and developed after the last Ice Age, over 10,000 years ago. In my country, the Philippines,
these deep reefs offer something of a last hope for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bone Marrow Research Paper
Bone Marrow Dorian N. Christian Excelsior College Abstract Every year, thousands of people of all
ages are diagnosed with leukemia and other life threatening diseases. Many of them will die unless
they get a bone marrow or cord blood transplant from a matching donor. Seventy percent of people do
not have a matching donor in their family and depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match to
save their life. The National Marrow Donor Program, which operates Be The Match, is an Institute

to select a process that could be easily implemented and fit the non profit business model and

to the fact that not only was it applicable to NMDP/Be The Match s business model and organizational
requirements, but the balanced scorecard provides an overarching strategic framework that

Profit and Loss Statement Paper
Before beginning, it should be noted that although this project is to be for a Profit and Loss (P L)
Statement, only an Income Statement is available at the Kudler Fine Foods website (Apollo Group,
2011). However, Income Statements and P L Statements are, for all intents and purposes, the same
thing.
With that said, it cannot be determined conclusively by reading the Income Statement for Kudler Fine
Foods if the report is monthly, quarterly or yearly or if the reports are constructed on a different fiscal
schedule. The date at the top, however, reads For the Year Ended December 31, 2003 . ... Show more

Now it is important to account for any other, miscellaneous income, such sales of assets and interest
on money in savings.
For Kudler Fine Foods, this amount is $7,845 (Apollo Group, 2011) and will be added to the income
of the company to reach a final, Net Income of $676,795.00(Apollo Group, 2011).
Conclusion
Kudler Fine Foods, though fictitious, is doing very well for itself even when compared to a large
supermarket chain like Walmart. When dividing the Net Income of Kudler Fine Foods, $676,795.00,
by the company s Net Sales $10,796,200.00, we get a before tax profit margin of 6.268%. This means
that Kudler Fine Foods has almost double the pre tax profit margin than Walmart s post tax profit
margin of 3.515% (Ycharts, 2012). This means that unless the yearly taxes due for Kudler Fine Foods
is about 50%, they will likely have higher profit margins than Walmart. That is pretty good for a
fictitious company...

Auditing, Attestation, and Assurance What is Auditing, Attestation and Assurance? Auditing relates to
the analysis of the financial statements, attestation relates to the financial information beyond the
financial statements, and assurance relates to improvement of the reliability of the financial
information within the financial statements. This paper will give examples of each type of service,
who might request these services, the standards that apply to each service, and who establishes those
standards. The paper will also provide a comparison and contrast point of view for all three services.

SAS No. 1, which established the codification of auditing
standards and procedures, was issued in November 1972 and is currently still in effect. There are
120 Auditing Standard Statements that have been issued since 1972, in which many have been
superseded by new standards. As the auditing profession strives to confirm the accuracy and
credibility of entity financial statements, these standards are required to be updated as the US
economy is constantly changing and auditors are faced with different situations on a daily basis.
Attestation services are guided by The Statements on Standards for Attestation
Engagements (SSAEs), which are issued by attestation specialist within the AICPA. The primary
reason for adopting these standards was to establish a general framework and reasonable
boundaries for attestation services. The standards provide useful and necessary guidance to
CPA s that perform attest services, and to guide designated AICPA standard setting bodies in
establishing the standards for attest services. They are basically an extension to the ten generally
accepted auditing standards to deal with appropriate reporting, adequate planning and
supervision, technical competence, independence in mental attitude, and sufficient evidence,
only with a much broader scope than the GAAS. The SSAE s were developed to be responsive to
a changing environment and the demands of

1996. Interestingly, BackRub had the capability to use links to determine the importance of various

Stereotypes Report
Put an Asian in a fight and expect him to use his expert martial art skills. He ll pull out his nunchucks,
put his hands into fists, and yell Ha ya! while charging at his opponent at full speed. Then he ll karate
chop him and land his foot on his opponent s face. This is one of many stereotypes Asians are
associated with. Stereotypes are standardized, preconceived notions or images invested with a
common group of people. In other words, stereotypes are oversimplified opinions about a group of
people or things who share similar characteristics such as race and gender. Stereotypes are common in
society today. Being an Asian American like other races come with society s ideas of who they are and

Some examples of positive stereotypes are that Asians are good at math or men are good leaders. Yet,
positive stereotypes have negative effects. In January of 2013, John Oliver Siy and Sapna Cheryan
conducted multiple experiments to answer the question, If hearing a negative stereotype about your
group gets you upset, does hearing a positive stereotype have the opposite effect? In one study, an
Asian and White participant were to fill out a packet. One packet had math problems and the other had
verbal problems. The White participant was given the choice to decide who did what packet. Then he
told the Asian, I know all Asians are good at math. How about you take the math packet. I ll work on
this one. Being a math genius categorizes as a positive stereotype which should make an Asian feel
good about themselves. Instead, when the participants were asked how they felt after the activity, the
Asian said he felt disregarded and depersonalised. When the positive stereotype was used in this
situation, the Asian participant felt less like an individual. This study showed how positive stereotypes
are not always positive and how they can hurt others

In South Africa, adolescence is a sensitive period, and...
In South Africa, adolescence is a sensitive period, and not a critical period, for identity development as
it is a period during which normal development is most sensitive to abnormal environmental
conditions (Bruer, 2001). When looking at South Africa particularly, the abnormal environmental
conditions would be apartheid, and one will see its profound effects on identity development.
Adolescence is a sensitive period rather than a critical period as a critical period focuses on a system
that requires a specific kind of experience if normal development is to occur (Bruer, 2001). Therefore
this essay will place an emphasis on adolescence as a sensitive period for identity development.
One first needs to explore the term, sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outside that specific time frame, the experience does not have the same effect (Armstrong et al.,
2006). For the reason that this essay is focusing on identity development in South Africa, it would be
more accurate in stating that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development. Events that
affect individuals during a sensitive period have more chance overcoming the effects than if it were a
critical period. Thus, sensitive periods are subjects of theoretical interest and empirical examination
which will therefore contribute to the idea that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity
development in South Africa.
Identity development of South African adolescents in a democratic society is a crucial topic to explore
as one will find out how important adolescence is in determining one s identity. Given South Africa s
past, it is only correct in saying that apartheid had an enormous effect on people s lives and in
particular on adolescents. Once we examine the effects it had on adolescents, one will realise that
adolescence is considered to be a sensitive period for identity development. Political and Social events
such as the end of apartheid are likely to have a negative effect on an individual s psychosocial
development (Norris et al., 2008). Thom Coetzee (2004) stated that identity formation depends mostly
on how an individual recognises society and their expectations of it. It also relies on specific stages in

Free Will In Short Stories Of Sarah Jewett And Kate Chopin
Free Will in Short Stories of Sarah Jewett and Kate Chopin
Free will is an important feature of modern person s life. It is a philosophical term of art for a
particular sort of capacity of rational agents to choose a course of action from among various
alternatives ( Free Will ). In other words, free will allows person to make a choice regardless of
specific surrounding circumstances. Different systems of philosophy have controversial attitude to this
term. Depending on affiliation with certain school, experts admit or reject the thought of existence of a
free will. But, regardless of philosophical judgments, people often admit an importance of the
possibility to make independent decisions and administer own life. Free will gives person an
opportunity to decide in favor of long term, more global purposes; and this choice can expose
immediate perspectives to a risk. This particular situation was described by Sarah Orne Jewett in her
short story A White Heron. A possibility of free will sometimes became a vital feature; Kate Chopin
showed a literal reflection of this statement in her story The Story of an Hour. The author
demonstrated what catastrophic consequences can cause an unexpected loss of desired free will.
A White Heron speaks about little girl Sylvia who lives with her grandmother in a lonely house deep
in the woods. The old woman took her granddaughter from the city, where the child lived with her
siblings in mother s house. It looked like Sylvia had problems with

Applying this process in a classroom may look like showing students the mnemonic techniques in
Multiplication in a Flash that teaches the zero, one, two, five, and nine times tables with at least two
other different strategies and then allowing the children can choose the one they like best. Once the
students have been introduced to strategies for solving the remaining multiplication facts, pictures,
stories, and rhymes could be shown that are the second part of the Multiplication in a Flash program.
This could be a strengthening and helpful aid for students to be able to memorize their multiplication
tables. Imagine the procedures of this program; first students learning strategies to solve multiplication
facts, and then this program is added in as an aid or reinforcement. An observation of this process
would hopefully look like an activity or review to reinforce the concepts of the multiplication facts
students should have already grasped. The strategies from the program could easily be introduced
while teaching the multiplication facts and wouldn t take much time to implement. The strategies
could be used in centers because most of them are stories or have activities attached to them. This

Living A Health Conscious Lifestyle
Like many children, I went through the ubiquitous why stage. I constantly posed this question, even to
the smallest and most mundane events in life. Filled with genuine curiosity and love of learning, I
desired to understand the ornate workings of the world. Unlike the majority of children, however, I did
not lose this fervor and drive to find answers. This inquisitiveness laid the foundation for my interest
in research work. Growing up, my family placed a tremendous emphasis on health, fitness, and
nutrition.
From an early age, I appreciated the value of living a health conscious lifestyle. However, when my
older sister, Melissa, began to struggle with an eating disorder, I saw the detrimental effects that occur
when this healthy lifestyle is amplified to an all consuming extreme. Witnessing the immense
ramifications and toil that this disorder had on her instigated my interest in the psychology of eating
disorders and led me to countless questions that began with why? . Although this was in keeping with
my inquisitive nature, this time my questions evoked not only a search for answers but a distinctive
and enduring academic quest. By the time I was in 6th grade, I had confidently decided I would obtain
my PhD in clinical psychology. In an academic light, I sought to cultivate a professional
comprehension of eating disorders and dissect their intricate nature and the various methods of
treatment. My aspiration to pursue an active role in this field is chiefly

Immigration Reform In Arizona
Introduction Back in 2007 there were several concerns over immigration as a whole and exploding
proportions of illegal immigrants crossing the border in the Arizona area. Arizona attempted to resolve
the influx of people across the border by imposing heavy fines on employers hiring illegal immigrants.
At that time in Arizona there was a democratic governor Janet Napolitano that continually vetoed the
Arizona s legislature attempt to reduce illegal immigration. In 2009 the state replaced the Democratic
governor with a Republican governor Jan Brewer who was supportive of reforms for immigration in
Arizona. In 2010 the immigration problem was so sever that Arizona passed legislation allowing the
state to enforce federal law for identification of legal immigration into the United States. This sparked
a nation wide discussion on illegal immigration and immigration reform. The problem with
immigration is that the federal government has failed to control immigrants coming into the U.S.
illegally. This has caused a substantial increase in illegal immigration that threatens the U.S. economy.
There continues to be uncertainty on how to approach the legalized immigration into the U.S. The
federal government has attempted since 1975 to enact laws that resolve the issue but the laws continue
to fall short of fixing the problem. One of the democratic approaches to solve the problem is to give
all illegal immigrants citizenship unless they are not in good standings within

Talent Management as an integrated set of processes, programs, and cultural norms in an organization

Consequently, the demand for talent is outstripping the supply. The ability for a firm to create an
integrated system that yields a continual flow of talent ready to address specific strategic and
operational opportunities may be the single most enduring competitive advantage. While organizations
often find that their strategies, products, services, or markets require change, the need to have relevant,
differentiated talent to achieve these business goals remains constant (pp. 73 35). Boudreau and
Ramstad (2002) propose focusing on pivotal talent or the talent where improvements in capabilities
will make the most significant impact on competitive advantage. When talent management is
integrated into strategic business planning, there is an opportunity to discuss the capabilities and skills
needed to execute the plan. This helps leaders create proactive plans to ensure that they have the talent
they need to achieve the strategy (p. 7). According to Aguirre, D., Hewlett S. A., and Post L. (2010)

Motorcycle-Car Collisions Research Paper
Motorcycles, which are a small subset of all motor vehicles, are greatly overrepresented in fatal motor
vehicle accidents. In the United States, the death rate per registered motorcycle (59 per 100,000) is
approximately three times the death rate per registered passenger car (17 per 100,000). 77 Mortality
rates calculated per vehicle, however, does not take into account the substantially lower mileage
travelled by motorcyclists. Per mile travelled, the mortality rate for motorcycles is estimated to be 22
times higher than the comparable death rate for passenger cars.77 Another study also estimated the
death rate for motorcycle riders of about 35 per 100 million miles of travel compared with an overall

collisions, researchers assessed a sample of 109 motorcycle car head on collisions (that is, the impact
speed was the same for the car and the motorcycle) from the same dataset. They found that the
motorcyclists involved were 95.4% likely to be injured while the car drivers were 0.9% more likely to
be injured. The much higher injury rate confirmed that motorcyclists are more physically vulnerable
than those drivers in cars. Overall, the casualty rate (all injury types) is 556 per 100 million vehicle

Power Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
The Power of the American Dream
The American Dream is the belief that anyone can be successful if they just work hard enough. It is
about pursuing happiness through independence and integrity. Many individuals rely on the American
Dream to give them a meaningful life, when in actuality it destroys one s happiness. In reality, those
who give no significance to the American Dream are the ones who are actually satisfied with their
lives. Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, shows that finding purpose in one s life does not revolve
around the American Dream. As a matter of fact, individuals are most content without trying to
achieve that utmost success. The American Dream is a false prospect that people attempt to achieve,

Myrtle believed that in order to be content, she required prosperity and the American Dream. In
reality, the American Dream diminishes one s power to have a meaningful life. The main way in
which Myrtle tried to achieve wealth, was by having an affair with Tom Buchanan. Tom was a
successful, wealthy individual who Myrtle used to gain more wealth. She used his affluence for
herself, and ended up losing the American Dream. Myrtle s greed for luxury made her have an affair
with Tom, and Mr. Wilson eventually found out. Once Mr. Wilson realized Myrtle s motives, he tried
to achieve more money for her. His actions ultimately led to Myrtle s own death. Myrtle lost her
American Dream as quickly as it came in. She was driven to achieve more wealth, and she even died
trying. Basically, her own attempt to become prosperous was what eventually decreased her power to
become happy. From the start, Myrtle was deprived of money and she was unhappy. She actually
remained distressed because of her chase of the American Dream. Myrtle died because she continued
to blame Wilson for her lack of wealth. This is revealed when she says, Beat me...Throw me down and
beat me, you dirty little coward! (pg. 145). Therefore, this proves that another way in which Myrtle
tried to gain more money, was by blaming Mr. Wilson. She pointed all of her problems in Mr. Wilson s
direction, and eventually died by doing so. Mr. Wilson chased Myrtle out of the house, because he was
so upset with how disappointed Myrtle was with him. This shows that Myrtle tried to accumulate
more wealth by involving Mr. Wilson. The outcome was that she lost control and the American Dream
all together. Instead of life just becoming more distressed, Myrtle actually died as a result. Another
way in which Myrtle tried to acquire the American Dream, was through the way she dressed herself.

Sports As A Team And The Main Objective Of The Game
For rugby however, there are 15players on a team and the main objective of the game is to use the ball
to have more points than the other team. In this sport a player can run, kick and pass with the ball but
they are not allowed to pass the ball forward. It is a contact sport as the players can tackle the
opponent/opposition in order to get the ball. There are three ways to score points in rugby, which is by
a try, a conversion and a goal kick. A try is worth five points, a conversion is worth two points, and a
goal kick is work three points. Therefore, this sport becomes a high scoring game. Rugby is played on
a grass field with lines on it to outline the boundaries. At each end of the fields there are goal posts at
either end with an in goal area, where players can score their points by placing the ball over this try
line. One team defends and the other is trying to score points, the same as netball. Rugby consists of
eight minutes and is split into forty minute half s. At half time there is a ten minute break then teams
swap ends of the field. These are the basic rules, regulations and objectives of this sport rugby.
Physical and mental training is required in both sports of Netball and Rugby. Mental attitude and focus
are essential elements in performance of these two sports. For optimal performance, athletes within
these two sports need to learn mental skills to activate and maintain their level of motivation. Physical
training is also an essential part of being

Naturalistic Evolutionary View
The exact age of the Earth has long been an argument between those who believe that God created the
Earth for humans during the Creation Week, which is known as the Young Earth Creation View and
that the age of Earth can easily be counted from that week based on divine revelation direct from
scripture, and those that believe that it was created 4.6 billion years ago out of nothing, which is

Sweetness Of The Belly By Camilla Gibb
Sweetness in the Belly by Camilla Gibb
Sweetness in the Belly by Camilla Gibb is a moving, heart warming tale about a young woman, who
suffers from insecurity and self identity through a world where she is considered an outsider. The
novel s protagonist is Lilly Abdal, born to British vagabonds as she is left in the hands of the Great
Sufi Abdal, who raises her to become a white, devout Muslim woman in East Morocco. The author
seamlessly weaves in Dr. Aziz, an Ethiopian man who creates sparks in Lilly s heart, only to be
separated once Lilly s embarks to London, England. Camilla Gibb takes the tale of an outcast, spun
with religious beliefs and morals, to create a powerful story that challenges and uplights the reader s
mentality on religion and what it means to follow religious and cultural traditions.
Lilly, born in London, England was raised by a Sufi, the Great Abdal after the murder of her parents in
Morocco. She lived in a Muslim shrine for ten years under the influence of the Great Abdal, adopting
his surname, legally becoming his daughter. In her years of learning the Qur an, Great Abdal
undertakes an Ethiopian orphan named Hussein, whom he adopts as a son. Due to the political
upheavals in Morocco, the Great Abdal sends Lilly and Hussein on a spiritual hajj/pilgrimage across
the Sahara desert to the ancient holy city of Harar, at the age of sixteen years. The Abdal recommends
them to the shelter of a fellow sheikh/Sufi, however he does not accept Lilly because she

Use Of Measure Disability And Level Of An Individual s Health
Currently, two other instruments are utilized to measure disability and level of functioning. The two
instruments are: 1.) The RAND 36 Item Short Form Survey (SF 36) and
2.) the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) (Üstün et al., 2010b). Both of these measures are
often compared to the WHODAS 2.0. However, they both vary slightly from the WHODAS
2.0. The SF 36 is a generic quality of life measurement that assesses an individual s health status
(Ware, 2000). This measureme relies specifically on an individual s self reported perceptions related to
the following eight domains: physical functioning, bodily pain, role limitations due to physical health
problems, role limitations due to personal or emotional problems, emotional well being, social
functioning, energy/fatigue, and general health (Ware,
2000). The SF 36 is heavily utilized by managed care organizations and Medicare when monitoring
and assessing progress in adult individuals (Ware, 2000). In regards to scoring the
SF 36, this is a two step process in which scores have to be recoded and then averaged together to
create scale scores for each domain (Ware, 2000). Research on the SF 36 has concluded that it is
relatively easy to score, as long as clinicians follow the two step scoring process (Ware,
2000). It is also important to note that the SF 36 is in the public domain, available in multiple
languages, and has good reliability and validity (Ware, 2000). However, one of the major
limitations

How Does Hana Greenfield Use Personal Experiences In...
In general, history books recite facts and figures to create censored generalizations about historical
events, including the Holocaust. Dramatizations of these tragedies tend to use detailed accounts of
those effected by the catastrophe to create a somewhat accurate storyline, which often elicits some
form of an emotional response from the viewers/readers. These accounts add an extra level of detail to
a once nameless, faceless fact or figure. It allows the reader/viewer to visualize what was occurring at
the time. They start to think what they would do, how they would feel or react if they were in that
particular situation and that is when the emotions start to form inside the reader/viewer. Dramas allow
the readers/viewers to connect more with the material and hopefully find meaning that they could not
find simply skimming pages of a book. In Fragments of Memory, Hana Greenfield uses personal

come into effect after being passed. For years now, copyright infringement has been a problem not just

and the amendment passed with a strong majority behind it. Both parties were keen to vote for the

Social Class Impact On Class And Social Institutions Of...
Introduction
For my assignment I was asked to discuss the two way interaction between social class and social
institutions of family, education and religion. I assignment consisted of six questions, how social class
impacts family, how family impacts social class; how social class impacts education, how education
impacts social class; how social class impacts religion, and how religion impacts social class.
All of the above mentioned questions are interlinked, which means that it effects and determines the
other questions answer. Family, education and religion plays a big role in the different societal classes.
The goal of my assignment is to determine whether your class has a different impact on your beliefs,
upbringing and education.
How social class impacts family
A similar rank or standing in society is based on their prestige, power, wealth, education, and other
valued resources (Sawhill, 2013). Individuals in a similar social class tend to have the same values,
leisure interests, and attitudes (Sawhill, 2013). We inherit a social position that is based on our parents
or guardians social class. Family resources affect the children s ability to practise opportunities like
higher education, however one can move down or up the social hierarchy in adulthood which depends
on one s hard work, connections, and motivations (Sawhill, 2013).
Social class affects several aspects of family life. Class variations exists in when people marry, how
parents socialize their

Similarities Between Reservation Blues And Huckleberry Finn
Twain wrote his novel after the Civil War in 1865 during the Reconstruction Era. His novel is about a
young boy named Huckleberry Finn who flees from home and drifts along the Mississippi River; it
takes place in the 1840s. On the other hand, Alexie s novel is a story of a cluster of Native Americans
who create a band; they call themselves Coyote Springs. Alexie s literary work introduces many
events that occurred in the nineteenth century near the Mississippi River, much like Twain s novel.
Because the novels introduce or take place in American features, the novels are known as American
literature. The novels inaugurate certain themes that relate to American aspects as well. Both Twain s
nineteenth century classic American novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Sherman Alexie s
1995 novel Reservation Blues are distinctly American because of the way they are driven by theme.
Twain s novel is clearly American literature because of the protagonists traditions and regulations.
Huck lives among a community with cruel and absurd tasks. Huck s guardians teach him Christian
merit and manners. Huck narrates, The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she
would sivilize me (1). The two sisters take Huck as a son and teach him religious beliefs and
American culture. Although Huck does not like being religious, he still has a beneficial idea of
American religion and culture overall. After Huck leaves his home, he surrounds himself with a more

Animal Vivisection
Live animal dissection have been recorded in ancient Greek writings from as early as 500 BC.
Vivisection (dissection of living organisms) was first practiced on humans in ancient Rome, but it was
soon prohibited and thus the need for animal subjects.
During the early stages of animal testing, Many philosophers debated on animal vivisection, Aristotle
argued that animals lacked intelligence, and so the meaning of right and wrong had no meaning to
them. Theophrastus, Aristotle s successor, disagreed and objected to the vivisection of animals on the
idea that like humans, they can feel pain, and causing pain to animals was an insult to the gods.
Descartes knew that animals could feel, but lacked a conscious, thus he argued that they were unable
to consciously experience those feelings. Many others believed that animals were automata and that
the way they experience pain and feelings is not the same as humans. Not until animals as pets were
becoming more common did people start to really question the morality of animal vivisections, and
thus, the birth of animal rights groups started popping up in 19th century England.
Theodora Capaldo is president of the New England Anti Vivisection Society(NEAVS). An animal
rights organization with a goal to end the use of animals in research, testing and science. NEAVS is
dedicated to giving outreach and education for helping replace animals with more modern alternatives
that are more efficient, ethical and humane. In Capaldo s article

The Atlantic And Pacific Coasts Fish Stocks Overall Show...
ANSWER / RÉPONSE QUESTION 1
The Atlantic and Pacific Coasts fish stocks overall show little improvement, despite the management
strategies that have been implemented to try to increase fish population. This is primarily due to
overexploitation
North Coast and Hecate Strait
Herring and Salmon populations are low overall. The Prince Reupert Herirng stock is moderate in
abundance, while the Haida Gwaii stock has shown little improvement for the past ten years, The
Central Coast Herring stock numbers are at a record low in abundance. Sockeye Salmon population
has been consistently declining since the 1990 s due to the dangerous nature of their route of migration
of this species through to the Gulf of Alaska. Groundfish stock tends to vary from year to year. The
decline in dissolved oxygen in these areas has shown to affect distribution. Groundfish stocks are
improving overall, but those of shorter life spans (ie. flat fish) show much greater improvement then
those with longer life spans (ie. rockfish).
West Coast Vancouver Island Pacific hake, herring and Sockeye salmon, all remain in low abundance
in this area. The size of herring when they reach maturity is also declining. Sockeye survivability is
considered low in 2010. A single species the pacific sardine was once collapsed coast wide, has now
reached its original full range in this ecozone. Groundfish stocks on Vancouver Island, like those
found in the North Coast, tend to experience a decreased dissolve oxygen

The Process Of Matching Hospitals And Residents
Problem
Initial Solution
The process of matching hospitals and residents was chaotic and confusing before the NRMP began to
be used in 1952. The main way hospitals chose medical students was to extend an offer to the student
as early as they could. The demand of the hospitals was greater than the number of students looking
for residencies, prompting considerable competition among hospitals for interns. 1 This competition
lead to hospitals presenting students offers earlier than others could. With offers so early, hospitals
could not know the final class standings or grades of the students by the time they finished school.1 In
the most extreme cases, hospitals would send offers to students two years preceding the internship.1 In
1926, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The small adjustments began in 1945; the first of which would help students by resolving that
hospitals should allow students 10 days after an offer had been made to consider whether to accept or
reject it. 1 In the year 1946, another change was made and students were given up to eight days to
respond.1 In 1949, the AAMC proposed that appointments should be made by telegram at 12:01 A.M.,
November 15, with applicants not required to accept or reject them until 12:00 noon the same day.
Even this 12 hour waiting period was rejected by the American Hospital Association (AHA) as too
long 1. They agreed on the Appointment of Interns which contained that no specified waiting period
after 12:01 A.M. is obligatory 3. Even after these changes were made, it was clear that there were still
problems in the matching process. In order to avoid these problems and the costs they imposed, it was
proposed, and ultimately agreed, that a more centralized matching procedure should be tried 1.
Second Iteration of the Solution
Ultimately, the students were unhappy with modified original system. Their decisions had to be made
quickly and without the ability to consider other offers. The hospitals had to select students before the
students had developed any notable skills or even knew their specialty. Named as a form of congestion
and market failure by Roth in 2008, it was evident that changes in the residency matching program
needed to be made. Thus,

Racist Language In Literature
Racist language within literature is largely controversial, but there are benefits and drawbacks of using
such language within literature. Using racially charged language depicts the historical time and
mindset of people living within a certain time period. Furthermore, it allows readers a chance to learn
about their own culture from the use of racially insensitive language. Though there are benefits to
using such language, there are consequently some drawbacks to allowing the use of such language.
One of the primary drawbacks of allowing the use of racially insensitive language within literature is
that it normalizes the use of such language within the current culture. The Things They Carried often
uses racially insensitive language throughout the story. This language often comes from the American
military and is directed against the Vietnamese. The guy was a little crazy, for sure, but crazy in a
good way, a real daredevil, because he liked the challenge of it, he liked testing himself, just man
against gook (O Brien 44). While this racial slur is extremely offensive and problematic, it is
acceptable to use in the context that this literature is based in because it is striving to accurately depict
a historical time period and the mindset of people living during that time. Furthermore, the use of this
type of language within literature exposes the stains and issues within one s own culture; especially
those of European descent or who classify themselves as Caucasian.

How Does Pope Francis Laudato Talk
Pope Francis Laudato Si shows that the relationships between God, humans, and the earth are
intertwined, and that better understanding theology as God talk helps people to better understand those
relationships. Drawing from numerous sources including the Catechism, Christian tradition, past
popes, saints, and bishops from New Zealand, Canada, and Brazil, Pope Francis fabricates an
encyclical discussing these relationships and connections, leading to extensive explanation of integral
ecology. Theology is commonly defined as the study of God but a more authentic definition is that it is
God talk (lecture). Theo translates to God and logos translates to logic, language, and reason (lecture).
The sources of theology are scripture, tradition, and experience (lecture). Scripture being the text of
the Bible, tradition meaning a collection of beliefs, practices, habits of a group over time, and
experience being the history of experience of those before them and insights of experts and non

  • 3. Thesis Statement On Sea Cucumbers I aspire to be a scientist who makes real connections between seemingly disparate problems or challenges and finds human value in scientific knowledge. For my doctoral research, I want to study unfamiliar marine organisms in unfamiliar habitats to contribute to new knowledge and discover new species. To these ends, I will connect my graduate thesis on sea cucumbers with my ongoing research on mesophotic reefs. Sea cucumbers (Echinodermata: Holothuroidea) are diverse worm like organisms that evolved and diversified for over 400 million years. Mesophotic reefs are found at 30 to 150 meter depths and developed after the last Ice Age, over 10,000 years ago. In my country, the Philippines, these deep reefs offer something of a last hope for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Bone Marrow Research Paper Bone Marrow Dorian N. Christian Excelsior College Abstract Every year, thousands of people of all ages are diagnosed with leukemia and other life threatening diseases. Many of them will die unless they get a bone marrow or cord blood transplant from a matching donor. Seventy percent of people do not have a matching donor in their family and depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match to save their life. The National Marrow Donor Program, which operates Be The Match, is an Institute Award for Excellence winner (Balanced Scorecard Institute, 2016). But. The not for profit organization matches patients with donors, educates healthcare professionals and conducts research so more lives can be saved. During the summer of 2006, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Decision Boo called on two of his Finance and Strategic Planning senior team members, who were known for their analytical and organization skills. As they began discussing potential strategic management frameworks and tools, they came up with a short list of options: Total Quality Management (TQM), Balanced Scorecard, Lean and Six Sigma. After speaking with other non profits, health care organizations and target vendors clients, as well as researching each methodology on the internet and in best selling business books, Boo s staff prepared a white paper detailing the pros and cons of each given NMDP/Be The Match s organizational culture and capabilities, non profit business structure, employee and Board requirements, along with considering the time constraints for implementation. They decided to take a three phased approach to their selection process. Phase I was to select a process that could be easily implemented and fit the non profit business model and organizational requirements. As a result of Phase 1 analysis, the balanced scorecard was selected due to the fact that not only was it applicable to NMDP/Be The Match s business model and organizational requirements, but the balanced scorecard provides an overarching strategic framework that ... • 5. Profit and Loss Statement Paper Justin Fondriest Professor Timothy Groves BSA/310 October 21, 2012 Profit and Loss Statement Paper Before beginning, it should be noted that although this project is to be for a Profit and Loss (P L) Statement, only an Income Statement is available at the Kudler Fine Foods website (Apollo Group, 2011). However, Income Statements and P L Statements are, for all intents and purposes, the same thing. With that said, it cannot be determined conclusively by reading the Income Statement for Kudler Fine Foods if the report is monthly, quarterly or yearly or if the reports are constructed on a different fiscal schedule. The date at the top, however, reads For the Year Ended December 31, 2003 . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now it is important to account for any other, miscellaneous income, such sales of assets and interest on money in savings. For Kudler Fine Foods, this amount is $7,845 (Apollo Group, 2011) and will be added to the income of the company to reach a final, Net Income of $676,795.00(Apollo Group, 2011). Conclusion Kudler Fine Foods, though fictitious, is doing very well for itself even when compared to a large supermarket chain like Walmart. When dividing the Net Income of Kudler Fine Foods, $676,795.00, by the company s Net Sales $10,796,200.00, we get a before tax profit margin of 6.268%. This means that Kudler Fine Foods has almost double the pre tax profit margin than Walmart s post tax profit margin of 3.515% (Ycharts, 2012). This means that unless the yearly taxes due for Kudler Fine Foods is about 50%, they will likely have higher profit margins than Walmart. That is pretty good for a fictitious company... As the auditing profession strives to confirm the accuracy and credibility of entity financial statements, these standards are required to be updated as the US economy is constantly changing and auditors are faced with different situations on a daily basis. Attestation services are guided by The Statements on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAEs), which are issued by attestation specialist within the AICPA. The primary reason for adopting these standards was to establish a general framework and reasonable boundaries for attestation services. The standards provide useful and necessary guidance to CPA s that perform attest services, and to guide designated AICPA standard setting bodies in establishing the standards for attest services. In South Africa, adolescence is a sensitive period, and not a critical period, for identity development as it is a period during which normal development is most sensitive to abnormal environmental conditions (Bruer, 2001). When looking at South Africa particularly, the abnormal environmental conditions would be apartheid, and one will see its profound effects on identity development. Adolescence is a sensitive period rather than a critical period as a critical period focuses on a system that requires a specific kind of experience if normal development is to occur (Bruer, 2001). Therefore this essay will place an emphasis on adolescence as a sensitive period for identity development. One first needs to explore the term, sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Outside that specific time frame, the experience does not have the same effect (Armstrong et al., 2006). For the reason that this essay is focusing on identity development in South Africa, it would be more accurate in stating that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development. Events that affect individuals during a sensitive period have more chance overcoming the effects than if it were a critical period. Thus, sensitive periods are subjects of theoretical interest and empirical examination which will therefore contribute to the idea that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development in South Africa. Identity development of South African adolescents in a democratic society is a crucial topic to explore as one will find out how important adolescence is in determining one s identity. Given South Africa s past, it is only correct in saying that apartheid had an enormous effect on people s lives and in particular on adolescents. Once we examine the effects it had on adolescents, one will realise that adolescence is considered to be a sensitive period for identity development. Political and Social events such as the end of apartheid are likely to have a negative effect on an individual s psychosocial development (Norris et al., 2008). It is a philosophical term of art for a particular sort of capacity of rational agents to choose a course of action from among various alternatives ( Free Will ). In other words, free will allows person to make a choice regardless of specific surrounding circumstances. Different systems of philosophy have controversial attitude to this term. Free will gives person an opportunity to decide in favor of long term, more global purposes; and this choice can expose immediate perspectives to a risk. This particular situation was described by Sarah Orne Jewett in her short story A White Heron. A possibility of free will sometimes became a vital feature; Kate Chopin showed a literal reflection of this statement in her story The Story of an Hour. The author demonstrated what catastrophic consequences can cause an unexpected loss of desired free will. • 16. Immigration Reform In Arizona Introduction Back in 2007 there were several concerns over immigration as a whole and exploding proportions of illegal immigrants crossing the border in the Arizona area. Arizona attempted to resolve the influx of people across the border by imposing heavy fines on employers hiring illegal immigrants. At that time in Arizona there was a democratic governor Janet Napolitano that continually vetoed the Arizona s legislature attempt to reduce illegal immigration. In 2009 the state replaced the Democratic governor with a Republican governor Jan Brewer who was supportive of reforms for immigration in Arizona. In 2010 the immigration problem was so sever that Arizona passed legislation allowing the state to enforce federal law for identification of legal immigration into the United States. This sparked a nation wide discussion on illegal immigration and immigration reform. The problem with immigration is that the federal government has failed to control immigrants coming into the U.S. illegally. This has caused a substantial increase in illegal immigration that threatens the U.S. economy. There continues to be uncertainty on how to approach the legalized immigration into the U.S. The federal government has attempted since 1975 to enact laws that resolve the issue but the laws continue to fall short of fixing the problem. The RAND 36 Item Short Form Survey (SF 36) and 2.) the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) (Üstün et al., 2010b). Both of these measures are often compared to the WHODAS 2.0. However, they both vary slightly from the WHODAS 2.0. The SF 36 is a generic quality of life measurement that assesses an individual s health status (Ware, 2000). This measureme relies specifically on an individual s self reported perceptions related to the following eight domains: physical functioning, bodily pain, role limitations due to physical health problems, role limitations due to personal or emotional problems, emotional well being, social functioning, energy/fatigue, and general health (Ware, 2000). In regards to scoring the SF 36, this is a two step process in which scores have to be recoded and then averaged together to create scale scores for each domain (Ware, 2000). Research on the SF 36 has concluded that it is relatively easy to score, as long as clinicians follow the two step scoring process (Ware, 2000). Dramatizations of these tragedies tend to use detailed accounts of those effected by the catastrophe to create a somewhat accurate storyline, which often elicits some form of an emotional response from the viewers/readers. These accounts add an extra level of detail to a once nameless, faceless fact or figure. It allows the reader/viewer to visualize what was occurring at the time. • 34. Similarities Between Reservation Blues And Huckleberry Finn Twain wrote his novel after the Civil War in 1865 during the Reconstruction Era. His novel is about a young boy named Huckleberry Finn who flees from home and drifts along the Mississippi River; it takes place in the 1840s. On the other hand, Alexie s novel is a story of a cluster of Native Americans who create a band; they call themselves Coyote Springs. Alexie s literary work introduces many events that occurred in the nineteenth century near the Mississippi River, much like Twain s novel. Because the novels introduce or take place in American features, the novels are known as American literature. The novels inaugurate certain themes that relate to American aspects as well. Both Twain s nineteenth century classic American novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Sherman Alexie s 1995 novel Reservation Blues are distinctly American because of the way they are driven by theme. Twain s novel is clearly American literature because of the protagonists traditions and regulations. Huck lives among a community with cruel and absurd tasks. Huck s guardians teach him Christian merit and manners. Huck narrates, The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would sivilize me (1). Vivisection (dissection of living organisms) was first practiced on humans in ancient Rome, but it was soon prohibited and thus the need for animal subjects. During the early stages of animal testing, Many philosophers debated on animal vivisection, Aristotle argued that animals lacked intelligence, and so the meaning of right and wrong had no meaning to them. Theophrastus, Aristotle s successor, disagreed and objected to the vivisection of animals on the idea that like humans, they can feel pain, and causing pain to animals was an insult to the gods. Descartes knew that animals could feel, but lacked a conscious, thus he argued that they were unable to consciously experience those feelings. Many others believed that animals were automata and that the way they experience pain and feelings is not the same as humans. Not until animals as pets were becoming more common did people start to really question the morality of animal vivisections, and thus, the birth of animal rights groups started popping up in 19th century England. Theodora Capaldo is president of the New England Anti Vivisection Society(NEAVS). An animal rights organization with a goal to end the use of animals in research, testing and science. • 37. The Process Of Matching Hospitals And Residents Problem Initial Solution The process of matching hospitals and residents was chaotic and confusing before the NRMP began to be used in 1952. The main way hospitals chose medical students was to extend an offer to the student as early as they could. The demand of the hospitals was greater than the number of students looking for residencies, prompting considerable competition among hospitals for interns. 1 This competition lead to hospitals presenting students offers earlier than others could. With offers so early, hospitals could not know the final class standings or grades of the students by the time they finished school.1 In the most extreme cases, hospitals would send offers to students two years preceding the internship.1 In 1926, the ... The small adjustments began in 1945; the first of which would help students by resolving that hospitals should allow students 10 days after an offer had been made to consider whether to accept or reject it. 1 In the year 1946, another change was made and students were given up to eight days to respond.1 In 1949, the AAMC proposed that appointments should be made by telegram at 12:01 A.M., November 15, with applicants not required to accept or reject them until 12:00 noon the same day. Even this 12 hour waiting period was rejected by the American Hospital Association (AHA) as too long 1. They agreed on the Appointment of Interns which contained that no specified waiting period after 12:01 A.M. is obligatory 3. Even after these changes were made, it was clear that there were still problems in the matching process. In order to avoid these problems and the costs they imposed, it was proposed, and ultimately agreed, that a more centralized matching procedure should be tried 1. Second Iteration of the Solution Ultimately, the students were unhappy with modified original system. Their decisions had to be made quickly and without the ability to consider other offers. The hospitals had to select students before the students had developed any notable skills or even knew their specialty. Named as a form of congestion and market failure by Roth in 2008, it was evident that changes in the residency matching program needed to be made. Thus, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Racist Language In Literature Racist language within literature is largely controversial, but there are benefits and drawbacks of using such language within literature. Using racially charged language depicts the historical time and mindset of people living within a certain time period. Furthermore, it allows readers a chance to learn about their own culture from the use of racially insensitive language. Though there are benefits to using such language, there are consequently some drawbacks to allowing the use of such language. One of the primary drawbacks of allowing the use of racially insensitive language within literature is that it normalizes the use of such language within the current culture. The Things They Carried often uses racially insensitive language throughout the story. This language often comes from the American military and is directed against the Vietnamese. The guy was a little crazy, for sure, but crazy in a good way, a real daredevil, because he liked the challenge of it, he liked testing himself, just man against gook (O Brien 44). While this racial slur is extremely offensive and problematic, it is acceptable to use in the context that this literature is based in because it is striving to accurately depict a historical time period and the mindset of people living during that time. Furthermore, the use of this type of language within literature exposes the stains and issues within one s own culture; especially those of European descent or who classify themselves as Caucasian. ...
