Design For Automotive And Aviation Systems Essay
TECHNOLOGIES
As a part of the coursework this semester, we have been exposed to experts in various aspects of
vehicle technologies and markets, including automotive and aviation. Technology applications in each
of these industries have included drones, controls, power trains, fuel sources, material, etc.
In this report we will discuss the similarities and differences with regard to design for Automotive and
Aviation systems in some of the technology areas of concern.
FUELS AND ENGINES
Automotive
The cars of the street are powered by gasoline, or as some may know it petroleum. Some heavier
vehicles run on diesel and its domestic variants. The following are some of the properties of these
dominating fuels.
1) Petrol/Gasoline: This is primarily a clear fuel that is derived from petroleum that is used primarily
as a fuel in internal combustion engines. It consists mostly of organic compounds obtained by the
fractional distillation of petroleum, enhanced with a variety of additives.
2) Diesel: This is liquid fuel used in diesel engines, whose fuel ignition takes place, without any spark,
as a result of compression of the inlet air mixture and then injection of fuel. There are majorly 3 types
of diesels crude/petroleum derived, synthetic, and biomass derived diesel. All three forms however
hold the similar properties.
3) Ethanol E85 Flexible Fuel: Flexible Fuel Vehicles are designed to run on Gasoline and Ethanol
Blended Gasoline. The volume of Ethanol can be upto 85% by volume

The Truth in Negotiations Act
The Truth in Negotiations Act was passed on December 1, 1962 requiring government contractors to
submit cost or pricing data if the procurement met specific requirements in order to establish that the
offer is fair and reasonable. The history of The Truth in Negotiations Act will set the stage for its
significance in the twenty first century. Prior to World War II, the United States government conducted
its bidding process for procurement in an open bid environment. What was required for a bid was a
complete description of the requirement, two or more suppliers capable and willing to complete the
requirement, a selection based on price competition and sufficient time to prepare a complete
statement of the government s needs and terms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was contended by GAO that the government s negotiator would be in a better position to establish
an equitable price if contractor cost data were made available. (Maddox, 2013)
In 1959, the United States Air Force took the beginning steps of implementing a process that was
based on the Government Accountability Office s recommendation. This process required certification
of contractor cost data, as recommended. The Department of Defense followed the example set by the
Air Force by issuing a revision to the Armed Services Procurement Regulations to require certification
of cost data.
The Truth in Negotiations Act has the purpose of insuring that the government is receiving a fair and
reasonable pricing, essentially helping to prevent defective pricing and allowing the government to be
able to get set retributions for defective pricing. This is something that is solely found in the world of
government contracting, as there is nothing similar to it in a commercial environment. A potential
supplier will have to supply the government with a certificate of current cost or pricing data.

My Writing As A Student Entering My English Course
As a student entering my English course for the term I can admit I was a little anxious about the work
I would be doing and the difficulty I would have due to the fact I knew my writing was far from
perfect. Throughout the class I did see progress, but I still struggled with the writing process with my
narrative draft and revision as well as my persuasive draft and revision. I used text resources available,
but that still did not give me a complete understanding not at least until I used video resources as well.
By looking at instructional videos provided on YouTube and other sites gave me a more visual
understanding which I can say it has helped quite well. A Challenge the writing process has been for
me, I would write ideas I had during my pre writing and that was all, but I did not build on my idea. I
went from an idea to a draft and that was not the proper way to go about with my writing process.
With innumerable Resources available it has helped me in my writing more than I thought it would
because if I needed an example of what to do, I had text and video resources for that, video resources
helped me to understand even more how to write correctly on my essays, writing tools and many more
great resources. Using time management for my writing was very useful as well my research, pre
writing and drafting stage should have took up most of the time, therefore after editing and revision
then would be a breeze. Everyone has their own way of writing and not everyone

Data About Data And Information About Information
The term metadata first used in 1969 is called data about data or information about information . The
term meta derives from the Greek word denoting a nature of a higher order or more fundamental kind ,
or above , beyond , and of something in a different context , metadata is data associated with objects
which relieves their potential users of having to have full advance knowledge of their existence or
characteristics. It helps in finding data and tells how to interpret and use data. Metadata gives
descriptive information about the producer, content , quality, condition and other characteristics of a
dataset. Metadata ensures use of right data for right purpose, Metadata assigns quality and defines

Executive Summary
This report is about the social customs in America, Vietnam and China. Social customs include actions
and behaviors that are expected of a particular culture, and people could learn the particular culture via
its social customs. We introduced four aspects in the report: dining etiquette, gift presenting etiquette,
festival celebration and the wedding process. We tried to represent all three of these cultures in all of
the aspects of the report. The Chinese and Vietnamese cultures are quite similar in these areas, but
these two cultures differ greatly from the American culture. From these aspects, we can learn how
different the American culture, Vietnamese culture and Chinese culture are. We used primary sources
such as an interview, a survey, and our own personal experiences to form this report. We also used
secondary sources such as the Web to help move our research along. Our goal is to inform our
audience of the social customs of these cultures. We tried to show a contrast of the American culture
against the two

To Kill A Mockingbird Main Idea
The main idea of the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is about how Scout is going to learn
about evil forces in her life like racism and inequality. Scout is a 6 year old girl, who is an extremely
smart for her age and is quite curious, has a brother named Jem, who is in the fifth grade, her father,
Atticus, who is a lawyer, and her mother, who died when she was two years old, so she doesn t have
her in her life. While living in the town of Maycomb, she is learning about the inequality towards
women and all the racism that is in this town too. This main idea is shown several times in the first
chapter, when it gives us an example of how the town s people are racist. According to the book, The
sheriff hadn t the heart to put him in jail among the Negroes, so Boo was locked in the courthouse
basement.(Lee 11). Even though Boo did something mentally unstable, he didn t receive the same
punishment by the reason of being white, while if a person with a different colored skin did that they
would receive jail time. In chapter four, Jem, Scout s brother, said, I swear, Scout, sometimes you act
so much like a girl it s mortifyin (Lee 38). At first, you believe that this is rude, but then if you
actually think about what he has just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harper Lee puts this main idea in the book to inform people of the hardships women and African
Americans faced during these depressing times. By putting this in she is showing us how the people
here think, they believe that whites shouldn t receive as worse of a punishment as African Americans
and being a woman is an insult. Even the children are raised with these ideas of inequality, it doesn t
seem wrong to the kids, for it is just part of life and being a woman is worse than being a man. Harper
Lee is showing us something that we may never honestly thought of, but it is absolutely a major part
in everyday life that started years

External Factors ( Or External Environment )
Case Study
External Factors (or External Environment)
During the 1970s and 1980s, the Republic of Korea achieved exceptional economic development.
However, the government focused on regional development rather than infrastructure development
(Hine Chelliah, 2009). Therefore, the rate of infrastructure investment had been decreasing in the
1980s in particular, which drove a lot of traffic bottlenecks in many regions, and high traffic
congestion costs in roads, railways, and seaports. At the beginning of the 1990s, the government
acknowledged the limits to fund the needed construction of infrastructure facilities and felt the need to
mobilize new sources to invest infrastructure (Kim et al., 2011).
To promote the PPP program as a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government modified this law again in January 2005. The revised Act established a specialized
agency ( Public Private Infrastructure Investment Management Center ) to provide technical assistance
to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and procuring authorities. Also, the MRG was amended due to
excessive demand. In October 2009, the MRG program ended, and was replaced by the support
measurement of compensation of base cost, under which the government shares investment risks
within the limit of the government s cost, if the project was conducted as a public project. Therefore,
the changes in toll road PPP projects characteristics can be divided as shown in Table 2 (Hine
Chelliah, 2009; Kim et al., 2011).
Current Status of PPP highways
The first PPP highway is the Incheon International Airport Expressway completed in November 2000.
As of 2015, there are 24 PPP highways in Korea, and 10 of them are operating, 8 projects are under
construction, 3 of them are in the planning stage and the remaining 3 projects are under discussion.
The total investment cost for 24 routes is 41.2 trillion won. The ratio of PPP highways continuously
increased after 2000, and the PPP highways account for 11% (460km) of the total Korean national
highways (4,139km) as of 2015. On the other hand, the PPP projects were developed as solicited PPP
projects, but since 2005, projects were in progress by unsolicited projects.

On April 23rd, I attended a musical performance by the Diderot String Quartet. The performance was
held at the Bruno Walter Auditorium in 111 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, N.Y. at 2:30 p.m. The
Diderot String Quartet performance that I attended was titled Diderot String Quartet: Haydn and his
Students. The Diderot String Quartet performance is titled after the musical pieces of the concert,
which included string quartets by Franz Joseph Haydn, Anton Ferdinand Titz, and Ludwig van
Beethoven. The first musical piece performed was String Quartet No. 1 in G Major by Anton
Ferdinand Titz. The second musical piece performed was String Quartet Op. 76, No.6 in Eb Major
Fantasia by Franz Joseph Haydn. The third and final piece performed was String Quartet Op.74 in Eb
Major Harp by Ludwig van Beethoven. Each musical piece was performed beautifully by the Diderot
String Quartet, which included 2 violinists (Johanna Novom and Adriane Post), a cellist (Paul Dwyer),
and a violist (Kyle Miller). Besides the performance, the location of the concert was exceptional. The
Bruno Walter Auditorium is a relatively small concert hall. According to its website, the auditorium
can only accommodate an audience of 202. However, the Bruno Walter Auditorium has an
empowering effect on the audience. When the performance began, I felt the empowering effect of the
auditorium when I saw how the audience was drawn to the center of the stage. The attention of the
audience created an intimate

A great artist, Eugene Delacroix, once said, “What moves...
A great artist, Eugene Delacroix, once said, What moves men of genius, or rather what inspires their
work, is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not
enough. This famous saying, highlights one of the reasons art or even a single painting is so important.
Art is more than shapes and colors; art brings about so much more meaning. It expresses life, history,
beauty, and morals. It shows beliefs and contributes to the many reasons that make a human being, a
human. Art represents past, present, and future. An ancient painting that was made over 500 years ago
could have all the meaning in the world. It shows what life was back then, how humans have evolved

She is elegantly dressed and in this painting is shown as the goddess who protects and cares for the
institution of marriage. The Primavera and the Birth of Venus were both believed to be made for the
Botticelli s friends, the Medici family, a Florentine family made up of Lorenzo Di Medici who was
ruler of Florence and Cosimo Di Medici who was known for opening the first public library in Europe
in 1444. Botticelli s artistic and financial highpoint was reached during his middle years when he had
contacts, money and fame as a result of the Medici family s patronage. Botticelli was self confident
and completely at peace with his work, fellow Italian painter Giorgio Vasari claimed about Botticelli
that, he loved beyond measure (Lightbown 17), and that his affections were absorbed by his family
and his artwork by mysteries of religion and Greek Mythology. One of the unusual depictions of
Botticelli s early work at the time was that it was all based off mythologies and not religious paintings
which must have been a shock to people outside of the Humanist circle. Botticelli s work is very
sophisticated and feminine. Botticelli loved to make his paintings beautiful in that fantasy kind of way,
Botticelli was an individual in an age of belligerent singularities. Extraordinarily gifted, and
thoroughly trained in the studio of Fra Filippo Lippi, the healthy monk, he passed on to the influence
of Pollaiuolo, from whom he learned the new secrets of bodily

War On The Battle Field And The Return Home
Danfung Dennis perfectly portrayed the difficulties of war on the battle field and the return home in
Hell and Back Again . Following a wounded solider throughout his tour in Afghanistan as well as his
first few months back home shines light on the hardship that these soldiers go through while serving
their country. This film takes a look inside the nightmares of war on the battle field and in the heads of
the soldiers that come home. Sending men and women into war not only has a damaging physical
effect, but also has a devastating mental effect as well.
Sergeant Nathan Harris served two tours in the Echo Company 2nd Battalion 8th Regiment of the US
Marine Corp. In the summer of 2009, when the fighting was at its highest ever since the first initial
attack, he was severely wounded and relieved of his duties. Once he is sent home he is left to deal
with the physical pain and hardship of rehabbing his broken hip. Along with the physical pain, he
fights to keep his mental health stable as well. Struggling with the effects of war on his brain
alongside the struggle of taking handfuls of narcotics each day without becoming dependent on them.
His story is just a glimpse of what thousands of men and women deal with after returning home from
the battlefield.
It s no secret that our government has sent men and women into the battle field to return in pieces, if
not in a wooden box. We have all seen the images and heard the stories of our wounded warriors

The Nature of King Lear Essay
The most prevailing images in King Lear are the images (metaphoric and actual) of nature. The
concept of nature seems to consume the dialogue, monologues, and setting.
It might be useful to view nature as `the natural order of the world (and, perhaps, the universe). When
one goes against the natural order, chaos will follow. Shakespeare has made this point clear in Troilus
and Cressida where Ulysses predicts that once the specialty of rule hath been neglected disaster will
follow, for take but degree away, untune that string, and hark what discord follows (I.iii). But what are
the natural orders that were upset in King Lear? First, and foremost, King Lear divided his kingdom

215).
As Regan and Goneril show their disdain and, thereby, expose their `natural selves to Lear, his
recognition of them and the wrong he did to Cordelia are also expressed with the language of nature;
of Cordelia he says, O most small fault, how ugly dids t thou in Cordelia show! That, like an engine,
wrenched my frame of nature from the fixed place (I.iv. 262 265). And when Lear realizes that both
Regan and Goneril have deceived him, he calls them unnatural hags (II.iv. 276).
Lear s actions of distributing his kingdom to his daughters (which in a patriarchal society such as Lear
s is against natural law) and his rashness of expelling Cordelia and wrongly rewarding Regan and
Goneril, were a violation and misreading of true nature which, from that point on, lead to the
destruction and death of Lear and his family.
The subplot in King Lear is of Gloucester and his sons Edmund and Edgar. Edmund, the illegitimate,
bastard son, can be seen as somehow unnatural according to the laws of society at that time.
Gloucester himself says to Kent, regarding Edgar, But I have, sir, a son by order of law... (I.i. 18). The
subtext here is that Edmund s conception was outside the law and unnatural to the social structure.
Like Lear, Gloucester fails to see the true nature of his children and also invokes the language of
nature in blind ways. After wrongly condemning Edgar he calls Edmund a loyal and natural boy (II. i.
85).

War Of 1812 Dbq
The War of 1812 made the United States realize that they needed more industrial business because
they had lost their trade relation with Great Britain. Their industrial business was centered more
around the North and less in the South. At the end of the war, their trade relation got better, but the
Government put tariffs on imported goods. Before the war, tariffs were at 7%, but it changed to more
than 20% in 1816. The Tariff of 1824 barely passed the House of Representatives, but there was a tiny
margin for it to slip through. While the North supported this tariff, while the South strongly opposed
the tariff, because it benefited the North and the South didn t get any benefit at all. The tariff had

How Did Nicholas Sarkozy Ban The Construction Of More...
Amidst the furore instigated by the Swiss minaret referendum in 2009 (Migration Policy Institute,
2009), former French president Nicolas Sarkozy voiced his sympathy and his understanding for the
collective decision to ban the construction of more minarets within Switzerland through an article
titled Respecter ceux qui arrivent, respecter ceux qui accueillent (Sarkozy, 2009b). Sarkozy s article
first appeared in the December 8th publication of Le Monde a French daily newspaper in 2009, and
was subsequently edited and translated by The Guardian, an English news agency based in the United
Kingdom (Sarkozy, 2009a). It is of importance to note that this discourse is based on the translated
(English) version of Sarkozy s article. Given the nature of translations, expressions and connotations
from the original commentary may be altered and hence, discrepancies may arise. ... Show more

cause of the Swiss minaret vote, the opposition and their perspective, the image and lives of Muslims

Preconceptions In The Blind Man
If a blind person walked into the room, I would expect to see someone who looked feeble, wore dark
glasses, used a cane, and potentially had a guide dog. The narrator of this story had similar
preconceptions about the blind. Some of these preconceptions were that the blind move slowly and
never laugh , sometimes [the blind are] led by seeing eye dogs , the blind man s life and marriage were
unfulfilling because he was unable not see, and others that had to do with physical appearance and
mannerisms. This blind man though breaks these stereotypes and much more. Conventional ideas
about the blind are broken because of the way he was portrayed and helped to teach the narrator a
lesson. The blind man, Robert, is an independent person. Throughout the story, he shows this through
some of his actions, such as not using a cane and cutting his food without the help of the others at the
table. He also portrays his independence through his stories when he talks about some of his past jobs
such as a ham radio operator and an Amway distributor. Robert s independence helped to break many
of the stereotypes that the narrator had in place which helped to change the narrator s life. One of
these main lessons I believe was that there is a difference between physically seeing and perceptively
seeing. Although Robert was not able to see things physically like the narrator, he was able to perceive
things in a way that the narrator could not. This could be seen when it came to Robert and the narrator
s wife. Even though the Robert was unable to see the narrator s wife, he could perceptively see her,
understand her, and listen to her in a way the narrator was unable to. He understood her problems and
poetry, and give her companionship in a way that the husband did not see that she needed. From the
beginning of the story, the narrator gave the impression that he believed he was better than the blind
man because he had physical sight. After realizing the blind man understood his wife more and during
the last moments when the two of them drew a cathedral together, the narrator s perspective changed.
In the evening, after a documentary aired on the television about Cathedrals, the narrator attempted to
describe one to the blind

Peacekeeping An Effective Method Of Conflict Intervention...
While peacekeeping has become a mainstay of the United Nations collaboration in international
affairs, it is evident that peacekeeping no longer espouses the ideals it was create with. Peacekeeping
has devolved into ineffective barbarisms. This is evident in the sexual abuses perpetrated by
peacekeepers, the growing complexity of peacekeeping mandates, which is at times in conflict with
United Nations principles, and the lack of legal institutions surrounding peacekeeping, which validates
a belief of impunity. However, peacekeeping is not to be totally derided as, in certain situations, it can
be effective at limiting civilian deaths. Furthermore, peacekeeping can be made effective if several
reforms are enacted. These include an effective legal order, an understanding of local culture, and
developing strong relationships within the jurisdiction of the operation. These changes could make
peacekeeping an effective method of conflict intervention.
Peacekeepers have committed various sexual crimes against local populations whilst under the
purview of the United Nations, yet few of these peacekeepers have ever been prosecuted for their
crimes. The international community became aware of the damaging deficiencies of peacekeeping
during the decade leading up to the twenty first century (Wills 2013, 49; Odello and Burke 2016, 839).
Additionally, despite being aware of the sexual crimes being committed by peacekeepers, very little
has been accomplished to rectify the situation or to

Darwin s Theory On Evolution
Darwin s theory on Evolution Evolution is the belief that all living forms including humans came from
ancient ancestors. Evolution is what makes life possible. It allows organisms to adapt to the
environment as it changes. In Biology, theory of evolution does not tell us how life began on earth, but
it helps us understand how life came into existence, diversified in many forms on earth, and fossil
records. Scientists have many theories on evolution. One of the theories suggests all the healthy
species can reproduce but they do so imperfectly. Small variations can build up over generations to
create dramatic differences in the body form and function of living creature, called biological
evolution. Evidence overwhelmingly suggests that all life on earth is related. Charles Robert Darwin,

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by Wordsworth Essay
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by Wordsworth
Wordsworth takes readers on a reminiscent journey in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud reflecting upon
visions of nature. The figurative language and diction used elucidate the poet s response to nature.
Wordsworth uses each stanza to share his experience in nature through the image of a dance that
culminates in the poet s emotional response.
Wordsworth opens with reference to himself through simile as a part of the natural landscape, I
wandered lonely as a cloud / That floats on high (Wordsworth, Line 1). The diction used in the
opening simile puts the reader in the poet s state of mind. A cloud is a lightweight, free flowing image.

Wordsworth continues to relay his experience in nature as he expounds upon the affiliation between
the daffodils and another natural element. Applying simile, the poet connects the flowers to the stars,
Continuous as the stars that shine / And twinkle on the milky way (7 8). A mental picture of infinite
flowers is created, while shine and twinkle produce an image of light. Wordsworth uses the light
imagery to link the two aspects of nature; the luminous stars of the night and golden daffodils of the
day. The link shows the reader the connection the poet sees in different facets of nature. The second
stanza continues the description of the dance Ten thousand saw I at a glance, / Tossing their heads in
sprightly dance (12). The image created is of large numbers of flowers moving in unison and
expresses the harmony the poet finds in nature. The usage of sprightly makes another reference to
light, but in the sense of movement and weight as cloud and floats were utilized in the first stanza.
Diction in the second stanza provides the reader with a multi dimensional prospective of Wordsworth
s imagery by giving the images action, feeling and weight.
Personifying another facet of nature, Wordsworth partners the daffodils in their dance, The waves
beside them danced, but they / Outdid the sparkling waves in glee (13 14). The lines also work to

The Blood Rushing Effect On Readers, And Dracula By Bram...
Only few stories and novels have the blood rushing effect on readers, and Dracula by Bram Stoker is
one of those novels. This novel utilizes the method of using letters and other documents in order to tell
the story. The application of the epistolary technique in the story Dracula proves to be quite effective
because it does enable the reader to foresee the happenings in the story on a closer and more personal
scale. In this novel, the man who writes the letters in Transylvania experiences a vast amount of
supernatural experiences. Within the first four chapters of Dracula, Jonathan Harker witnesses
supernatural occurrence s such as seeing flickering blue lights, how Jonathan Harker s coachman
magically made the were wolves disappear, and how he cannot see the Count Dracula s reflection in
the mirror. In the novel Dracula, Jonathan Harker tries to overlook these supernatural occurrences
because of Mr. Hawkins interest. However, this reason may not be the most realistic justification in
why Jonathan is persistent in his stay, but rather he is also aware that he is a prisoner. The novel
Dracula also has many other supernatural aspects such as the three women in Count Dracula s house,
and how Count Dracula proceeds down the walls in a lizard like manner. In the novel Dracula, it could
be argued that Jonathan Harker is not a reliable narrator because of the fact that he is the only one in
the book experiencing these occurrences and his mental state is questionable at times. The

Age Discrimination Essay 9
Stereotypes about older people are a bound in our culture, but employers are not allowed to indulge in
them when making workplace decisions. Manifestations of age discrimination can be subtle or blatant.
Typical actions might include refusing to hire or promote older workers, curtailing their employee
benefits, limiting their training opportunities or limiting their job responsibilities and duties. Older
workers may be targeted in reductions of the work force; they may be encouraged to retire. Exit
incentive programs may deny valuable additional benefits to an older worker and early retirement
incentives may pressure older workers to retire prematurely. Incentive benefits may be reduced for
people who continue working beyond normal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The elimination of mandatory retirement is one of AARP s legislative priorities. Another priority for
them is to make sure that workers do not have to waive their rights to sue in exchange for an offer of
early retirement benefits. They want to make sure that older workers pension benefits are treated the
same as others.
As employers and as workers, it is important for all of us to be aware of the subtle way in which age
biased prejudices can influence our thinking. These stereotypical thoughts and actions reduce both the
incomes and the self confidence of millions of workers. An individual s ability, not their age, should
determine their qualifications for getting and keeping a job.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a US federal agency empowered by
Congress, particularly since the passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, to help enforce laws
prohibiting discrimination in the workplace. The Commission was first established in the early 1960s,
but it was not until 1964 that the EEOC was given the congressional power it needed to pursue those
companies with discriminatory practices, through lawsuits. The Civil Rights Act, in Title VII of its law
specifically gives the Commission the rights to oversee the employment practices of both private and
government employers, and to enforce the administration of laws set

Wherein this might have been possible in times past, it appears that in the future it will mean a
decrease in revenue for these organizations. Another reason for a lack of alignment is that the key
players of the organization are not on the same sheet of music. When this happens it is nearly
impossible to form an internal alignment of types. In this situation information technology is wasted.
The motive is because one key ingredient to alignment is collaboration. Collaboration is actually about
effective communicating. In this forum not only is information shared it is also redefined into new
ideas. All of this is not possible if key players of the organization do not work collaboratively. The
Right Combination The solution to what ills the alignment of IT strategy and business strategy can be
found in the alignment of the organization s CEO, CIO, and CFO. In order for the business strategy
and the IT strategy to come together to for any type of alignment (cutting edge) there must be

Charles Horton Cooley Looking Glass Self
Explain Charles Horton Cooley s concept of the Looking Glass Self. Then apply the concept of the
looking glass self to describe hypothetically how a person who has an eating disorder could have been
influenced by others.
The Looking Glass Self is interpreted as a person s way they view or perceive themselves based off of
how they feel that others see them (Conley, 2017), This is generally done in three steps, the first we
would imagine how we appear to others, secondly, we envision which judgements were made based
on that appearance, and finally how the person feels about us founded on their judgements.

The media has changed the views of what is considered socially acceptable for appearances. From the
movie stars and sports personalities people idolize down to our local media personalities, there is a
certain accepted type that is portrayed. If a person with an eating disorder, that being anorexia,
bulimia, or any others, is seen in public they are concerned with their appearance. Thinking do I look
fat, or am I eating to much, and other questions about how they feel about what others think about
them race through their head. If an obese person looks at the model type person, they both have
common stereotypes they base how they think about that person in their mind. Things like why do
they eat so much, why don t they take better care of themselves, you have to live at the gym to look
like that, they must not eat anything or they always vomit it after they do. All those and many other

Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific...
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social problems.
Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice and
discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of
society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to solve its
problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural process of
survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and competition
mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or patterns of behavior
characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic observation to study
sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid considering people s attitudes
when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also take into account people s
interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that sociologists must inquire
about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own behaviors. These Sociologists
were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their prior work led to the development of
Sociology in America. Sociologists throughout the decades have sought to develop a scientific
approach to the study and resolve such issues as prejudice and discrimination. Early

Analysis Of David Kaplan s Doe Season
Everyone goes through changes in life, especially ones that define who you are. In David Kaplan s
short story Doe Season, he portrays a young tomboyish girl that metamorphosis into a young woman
over a short hunting trip. Not only does the young girl enjoy spending time with her father, but she
enjoys the things that he does shooting, camping, hunting. This is not typical of your average girl, or
even a 9 year old girl. Throughout the story there are symbols that show the audience Andy s conflicts
with herself and her gender or sexuality. It is also clear that she struggles with herself and her gender
role in society. Gender roles are the result of the behavior of sexes in society (Basow 1992). This
means that men and women act a certain way to fit society s needs. In 1985, there were apparent roles
for gender. For example, the women usually stayed at home while the men were out working or away.
The women also stayed at home and cleaned the house, made dinner, and were considered the home
maker. In Doe Season, the author represents this societal value. This is shown to the reader when it is
said that her mother... cooked them eggs and French toast (Kaplan 290). Even though the mother is
exhausted and clearly not wanting to be up that early, she is still up making breakfast for her husband
and daughter. It is shown again when Andy decides to wash the dishes from lunch, rather than any of
the men (291). Although Andy is a tomboy and enjoys the outdoors with her

Persuasive Speech About Baking

incredible way to relieve stress, show individuality, or even impress a significant other. As
intimidating as baking can be, it is actually quite a simple process and if you can follow these
instructions then you can achieve your baking dreams in a few simple steps. The first thing we need to

ceramic dishes and what not, but there are also the people that don t want to mess with all the extra

are going to add ¾ cup of unsalted butter (this is roughly one and a half sticks), ¾ cup of brown sugar,
½ cup of granulated sugar. Once these three ingredients are in the bowl we are going to whisk these

Tree Stump Removal
Tree stumps are an inevitable part of owning property with trees. After a tree is downed, homeowners
often decide to leave the stumps in the ground, either to reduce tree removal costs, or clean up efforts.
However, doing so can actually end up costing you more in landscaping and home maintenance. Here
are 5 reasons homeowners should consider a tree stump removal service in Wilmington.
Stumps Can be Safety Hazards
Making sure the home and surrounding areas are free from safety issues should be high on any
property owner s priority list. As innocent as low cut stumps may appear, they can actually create
hazards for both adults and children because they are easily hidden behind shrubs and grass.

play a major role in decomposing and are vital to a health ecosystem; however, insects can spread into
surrounding trees, and buildings, causing thousands of dollars worth of property damage. Removing
the stump reduces these pests and the risk to the home.
Saplings Can Grow From The Stump
Particularly important when the tree was removed due to space or drainage issues, when left in the
yard, stumps may grow new saplings. New growth, while slow and steady, will revert the yard to the
same circumstances that led to the removal to begin with. Removing the stump minimizes the risks of
a new tree causing the same problems.
Difficult Landscaping Upkeep
Stumps create unique challenges when it comes to maintenance and landscaping. Mowing and weed
control can become difficult, especially for large and oddly shaped stumps. Simple upkeep can also
take a lot longer than if the stump was removed, causing property owners to abandon other projects to
maintain the space around the stump, or allow the stump to become over grown, which posses a safety

How Did Mother Teresa Influence The Missionaries Of Charity
When I think of great people who have helped others worldwide, many people come into my thoughts.
However, one person stands out from the rest for me: Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was a very
influential person who went above her call of duty by helping people and forming the Missionaries of

The Catholic Church has helped many people who are in need that would have died if they did not

help in many things. Catholic communities worldwide help people almost everywhere, making the
Catholic Church s influence in people s lives very large. The Catholic Church, in general, will always

women have not been given proper recognition for their insight in the field of psychology. They were

of definition, but a fundamental way of thinking that has political consequences. What is a Woman?
This question may seem to be rudimentary, but when thought about women are the foundation for life.
Women are more than their uterus, or an imperfect man. It was believed that women were made from
man s image, Adam and Eve. This alone gives rise to men and lessens women as an individual. Man
cannot think of himself without the other. Without women there would be no man. In the most

pollutants is either staying indoors or wearing masks outdoor. Accordingly, outdoor activities,
especially sports and exercise, are strongly not recommended. While staying indoor, residents could
utilize green plants and humidifiers to absorb and precipitate harmful substances. There is also an
interesting commercial phenomenon related to smog pollution. Many medical equipment
manufacturers have introduced mouth muffles that are advertised having function of filtering out PM
2.5. Meanwhile, a lot of companies have increased the supply of air purifiers in the market responding
to the smog crisis. It turns out that this sort of particular merchandises are very popular in the market
so that some retailers experienced supply shortage for a while. Also, to improve immune system,
people need to obtain more vitamins and nutrients through a variety of diet. In China, it is universally
believed that many herbal plants have the function of preventing illness related to virus and toxics.
Therefore, many people take this advantage when they are not sick therefore lowering the chance of
visiting hospital.
For the society, battle against air pollution is much more complicated. London smog incident

Female Characters In And Then There Were None
Women. They are a complete mystery, said the revolutionary physicist Stephen Hawking. In the novel
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed
in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a fellow character
or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the
males, or downright treating the female protagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel
and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through
hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for
impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the
largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while
referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be
homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as Agatha Christie, you would
not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the same. On a broader note, the three
main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman one following under her husband
even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in love she is willing to literally kill anyone
who stands in her way. More specifically, when William Blore is analyzing the death of Mrs. Rogers,

Still Life With Skull Essay
Still Life with Skull by Paul Cezanne was completed in 1898 during the Post Impressionist era
commonly known as the final period. The piece features a skull, fruits, and a piece of white cloth
placed on a table. It takes the vanitas genre of art, done using oil on canvas measuring 65.4 cm by 54.3
cm which is exhibited at the Barnes Foundation, Merion, Pennsylvania, USA (Lindsay 1969, 23). This
work represents a powerful and essential link between the materialistic artistic movement of
Expressionism and the ephemeral features of Impressionism. The painting features a dark background
with planes of color used in the foreground and on objects to create space and depth of perspective.
Texture is used to create a tonal harmony devoid of tactile or sensual appeal, therefore portraying
volume.
However, Cezanne leaves little room for color and volume to play their great roles as light diffuses to
the balanced tints of ochre. Space is created by the absolute stillness of the piece thereby affirming the
painter as a great master of composition, color, and design. Further, the piece features complex fields
that create an abstraction by the artist s sensitive and repetitive brushstrokes. Cezanne is portraying the
complexity of man s visual perception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quill, writing materials, and journals are reminiscent of moral messages and the closed book is a
show of knowledge formerly held by the skull. The mature fruits depicted on the painting by Paul
Cezanne symbolize abundance and fertility, which is figuratively used to mean well being and
wellness. The flowers on the background mean folly and mortal sin of laziness (Platzman 2001, 116).
The glasses are representative of vanity, as is the reflection shown on the still life with a skull and
writing quill. The empty glass is a symbol of death and fragility of human life. The bottle may also be
a sign of the sin of

  • 2. Design For Automotive And Aviation Systems Essay TECHNOLOGIES As a part of the coursework this semester, we have been exposed to experts in various aspects of vehicle technologies and markets, including automotive and aviation. Technology applications in each of these industries have included drones, controls, power trains, fuel sources, material, etc. In this report we will discuss the similarities and differences with regard to design for Automotive and Aviation systems in some of the technology areas of concern. FUELS AND ENGINES Automotive The cars of the street are powered by gasoline, or as some may know it petroleum. Some heavier vehicles run on diesel and its domestic variants. The following are some of the properties of these dominating fuels. 1) Petrol/Gasoline: This is primarily a clear fuel that is derived from petroleum that is used primarily as a fuel in internal combustion engines. It consists mostly of organic compounds obtained by the fractional distillation of petroleum, enhanced with a variety of additives. 2) Diesel: This is liquid fuel used in diesel engines, whose fuel ignition takes place, without any spark, as a result of compression of the inlet air mixture and then injection of fuel. There are majorly 3 types of diesels crude/petroleum derived, synthetic, and biomass derived diesel. All three forms however hold the similar properties. 3) Ethanol E85 Flexible Fuel: Flexible Fuel Vehicles are designed to run on Gasoline and Ethanol Blended Gasoline. The volume of Ethanol can be upto 85% by volume ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Truth in Negotiations Act The Truth in Negotiations Act was passed on December 1, 1962 requiring government contractors to submit cost or pricing data if the procurement met specific requirements in order to establish that the offer is fair and reasonable. The history of The Truth in Negotiations Act will set the stage for its significance in the twenty first century. Prior to World War II, the United States government conducted its bidding process for procurement in an open bid environment. What was required for a bid was a complete description of the requirement, two or more suppliers capable and willing to complete the requirement, a selection based on price competition and sufficient time to prepare a complete statement of the government s needs and terms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was contended by GAO that the government s negotiator would be in a better position to establish an equitable price if contractor cost data were made available. (Maddox, 2013) In 1959, the United States Air Force took the beginning steps of implementing a process that was based on the Government Accountability Office s recommendation. This process required certification of contractor cost data, as recommended. The Department of Defense followed the example set by the Air Force by issuing a revision to the Armed Services Procurement Regulations to require certification of cost data. The Truth in Negotiations Act has the purpose of insuring that the government is receiving a fair and reasonable pricing, essentially helping to prevent defective pricing and allowing the government to be able to get set retributions for defective pricing. This is something that is solely found in the world of government contracting, as there is nothing similar to it in a commercial environment. A potential supplier will have to supply the government with a certificate of current cost or pricing data. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Writing As A Student Entering My English Course As a student entering my English course for the term I can admit I was a little anxious about the work I would be doing and the difficulty I would have due to the fact I knew my writing was far from perfect. Throughout the class I did see progress, but I still struggled with the writing process with my narrative draft and revision as well as my persuasive draft and revision. I used text resources available, but that still did not give me a complete understanding not at least until I used video resources as well. By looking at instructional videos provided on YouTube and other sites gave me a more visual understanding which I can say it has helped quite well. A Challenge the writing process has been for me, I would write ideas I had during my pre writing and that was all, but I did not build on my idea. I went from an idea to a draft and that was not the proper way to go about with my writing process. With innumerable Resources available it has helped me in my writing more than I thought it would because if I needed an example of what to do, I had text and video resources for that, video resources helped me to understand even more how to write correctly on my essays, writing tools and many more great resources. Using time management for my writing was very useful as well my research, pre writing and drafting stage should have took up most of the time, therefore after editing and revision then would be a breeze. Scout is a 6 year old girl, who is an extremely smart for her age and is quite curious, has a brother named Jem, who is in the fifth grade, her father, Atticus, who is a lawyer, and her mother, who died when she was two years old, so she doesn t have her in her life. While living in the town of Maycomb, she is learning about the inequality towards women and all the racism that is in this town too. This main idea is shown several times in the first chapter, when it gives us an example of how the town s people are racist. According to the book, The sheriff hadn t the heart to put him in jail among the Negroes, so Boo was locked in the courthouse basement.(Lee 11). Even though Boo did something mentally unstable, he didn t receive the same punishment by the reason of being white, while if a person with a different colored skin did that they would receive jail time. However, the government focused on regional development rather than infrastructure development (Hine Chelliah, 2009). Therefore, the rate of infrastructure investment had been decreasing in the 1980s in particular, which drove a lot of traffic bottlenecks in many regions, and high traffic congestion costs in roads, railways, and seaports. The performance was held at the Bruno Walter Auditorium in 111 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, N.Y. at 2:30 p.m. The Diderot String Quartet performance that I attended was titled Diderot String Quartet: Haydn and his Students. The Diderot String Quartet performance is titled after the musical pieces of the concert, which included string quartets by Franz Joseph Haydn, Anton Ferdinand Titz, and Ludwig van Beethoven. The first musical piece performed was String Quartet No. 1 in G Major by Anton Ferdinand Titz. The second musical piece performed was String Quartet Op. 76, No.6 in Eb Major Fantasia by Franz Joseph Haydn. The third and final piece performed was String Quartet Op.74 in Eb Major Harp by Ludwig van Beethoven. Each musical piece was performed beautifully by the Diderot String Quartet, which included 2 violinists (Johanna Novom and Adriane Post), a cellist (Paul Dwyer), and a violist (Kyle Miller). A great artist, Eugene Delacroix, once said, What moves men of genius, or rather what inspires their work, is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough. This famous saying, highlights one of the reasons art or even a single painting is so important. Art is more than shapes and colors; art brings about so much more meaning. It expresses life, history, beauty, and morals. It shows beliefs and contributes to the many reasons that make a human being, a human. Art represents past, present, and future. Botticelli s artistic and financial highpoint was reached during his middle years when he had contacts, money and fame as a result of the Medici family s patronage. Botticelli was self confident and completely at peace with his work, fellow Italian painter Giorgio Vasari claimed about Botticelli that, he loved beyond measure (Lightbown 17), and that his affections were absorbed by his family and his artwork by mysteries of religion and Greek Mythology. One of the unusual depictions of Botticelli s early work at the time was that it was all based off mythologies and not religious paintings which must have been a shock to people outside of the Humanist circle. This film takes a look inside the nightmares of war on the battle field and in the heads of the soldiers that come home. • 15. The Nature of King Lear Essay The most prevailing images in King Lear are the images (metaphoric and actual) of nature. The concept of nature seems to consume the dialogue, monologues, and setting. It might be useful to view nature as `the natural order of the world (and, perhaps, the universe). When one goes against the natural order, chaos will follow. Shakespeare has made this point clear in Troilus and Cressida where Ulysses predicts that once the specialty of rule hath been neglected disaster will follow, for take but degree away, untune that string, and hark what discord follows (I.iii). As Regan and Goneril show their disdain and, thereby, expose their `natural selves to Lear, his recognition of them and the wrong he did to Cordelia are also expressed with the language of nature; of Cordelia he says, O most small fault, how ugly dids t thou in Cordelia show! That, like an engine, wrenched my frame of nature from the fixed place (I.iv. 262 265). And when Lear realizes that both Regan and Goneril have deceived him, he calls them unnatural hags (II.iv. 276). Lear s actions of distributing his kingdom to his daughters (which in a patriarchal society such as Lear s is against natural law) and his rashness of expelling Cordelia and wrongly rewarding Regan and Goneril, were a violation and misreading of true nature which, from that point on, lead to the destruction and death of Lear and his family. The subplot in King Lear is of Gloucester and his sons Edmund and Edgar. Edmund, the illegitimate, bastard son, can be seen as somehow unnatural according to the laws of society at that time. Gloucester himself says to Kent, regarding Edgar, But I have, sir, a son by order of law... (I.i. 18). The subtext here is that Edmund s conception was outside the law and unnatural to the social structure. Like Lear, Gloucester fails to see the true nature of his children and also invokes the language of nature in blind ways. • 20. Preconceptions In The Blind Man If a blind person walked into the room, I would expect to see someone who looked feeble, wore dark glasses, used a cane, and potentially had a guide dog. The narrator of this story had similar preconceptions about the blind. Some of these preconceptions were that the blind move slowly and never laugh , sometimes [the blind are] led by seeing eye dogs , the blind man s life and marriage were unfulfilling because he was unable not see, and others that had to do with physical appearance and mannerisms. This blind man though breaks these stereotypes and much more. Conventional ideas about the blind are broken because of the way he was portrayed and helped to teach the narrator a lesson. The blind man, Robert, is an independent person. Throughout the story, he shows this through some of his actions, such as not using a cane and cutting his food without the help of the others at the table. He also portrays his independence through his stories when he talks about some of his past jobs such as a ham radio operator and an Amway distributor. Robert s independence helped to break many of the stereotypes that the narrator had in place which helped to change the narrator s life. One of these main lessons I believe was that there is a difference between physically seeing and perceptively seeing. Although Robert was not able to see things physically like the narrator, he was able to perceive things in a way that the narrator could not. This could be seen when it came to Robert and the narrator s wife. Even though the Robert was unable to see the narrator s wife, he could perceptively see her, understand her, and listen to her in a way the narrator was unable to. He understood her problems and poetry, and give her companionship in a way that the husband did not see that she needed. From the beginning of the story, the narrator gave the impression that he believed he was better than the blind man because he had physical sight. After realizing the blind man understood his wife more and during the last moments when the two of them drew a cathedral together, the narrator s perspective changed. In the evening, after a documentary aired on the television about Cathedrals, the narrator attempted to describe one to the blind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Peacekeeping An Effective Method Of Conflict Intervention... While peacekeeping has become a mainstay of the United Nations collaboration in international affairs, it is evident that peacekeeping no longer espouses the ideals it was create with. Peacekeeping has devolved into ineffective barbarisms. This is evident in the sexual abuses perpetrated by peacekeepers, the growing complexity of peacekeeping mandates, which is at times in conflict with United Nations principles, and the lack of legal institutions surrounding peacekeeping, which validates a belief of impunity. However, peacekeeping is not to be totally derided as, in certain situations, it can be effective at limiting civilian deaths. Furthermore, peacekeeping can be made effective if several reforms are enacted. These include an effective legal order, an understanding of local culture, and developing strong relationships within the jurisdiction of the operation. These changes could make peacekeeping an effective method of conflict intervention. Peacekeepers have committed various sexual crimes against local populations whilst under the purview of the United Nations, yet few of these peacekeepers have ever been prosecuted for their crimes. The international community became aware of the damaging deficiencies of peacekeeping during the decade leading up to the twenty first century (Wills 2013, 49; Odello and Burke 2016, 839). It allows organisms to adapt to the environment as it changes. In Biology, theory of evolution does not tell us how life began on earth, but it helps us understand how life came into existence, diversified in many forms on earth, and fossil records. Scientists have many theories on evolution. One of the theories suggests all the healthy species can reproduce but they do so imperfectly. Small variations can build up over generations to create dramatic differences in the body form and function of living creature, called biological evolution. Evidence overwhelmingly suggests that all life on earth is related. Charles Robert Darwin, an English naturalist and geologist, established that all species of life on earth have descended over time from common ancestors. In 1859, Darwin released his theory of evolution in The Origin of Species. Darwin presents his idea that species evolved through process called Nature Selection. Charles Darwin says: Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. Applying simile, the poet connects the flowers to the stars, Continuous as the stars that shine / And twinkle on the milky way (7 8). A mental picture of infinite flowers is created, while shine and twinkle produce an image of light. Wordsworth uses the light imagery to link the two aspects of nature; the luminous stars of the night and golden daffodils of the day. The link shows the reader the connection the poet sees in different facets of nature. The second stanza continues the description of the dance Ten thousand saw I at a glance, / Tossing their heads in sprightly dance (12). The image created is of large numbers of flowers moving in unison and expresses the harmony the poet finds in nature. The usage of sprightly makes another reference to light, but in the sense of movement and weight as cloud and floats were utilized in the first stanza. This novel utilizes the method of using letters and other documents in order to tell the story. The application of the epistolary technique in the story Dracula proves to be quite effective because it does enable the reader to foresee the happenings in the story on a closer and more personal scale. In this novel, the man who writes the letters in Transylvania experiences a vast amount of supernatural experiences. Within the first four chapters of Dracula, Jonathan Harker witnesses supernatural occurrence s such as seeing flickering blue lights, how Jonathan Harker s coachman magically made the were wolves disappear, and how he cannot see the Count Dracula s reflection in the mirror. In the novel Dracula, Jonathan Harker tries to overlook these supernatural occurrences because of Mr. Hawkins interest. However, this reason may not be the most realistic justification in why Jonathan is persistent in his stay, but rather he is also aware that he is a prisoner. The novel Dracula also has many other supernatural aspects such as the three women in Count Dracula s house, and how Count Dracula proceeds down the walls in a lizard like manner. The Looking Glass Self is interpreted as a person s way they view or perceive themselves based off of how they feel that others see them (Conley, 2017), This is generally done in three steps, the first we would imagine how we appear to others, secondly, we envision which judgements were made based on that appearance, and finally how the person feels about us founded on their judgements. Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice and discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to solve its problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural process of survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and competition mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or patterns of behavior characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic observation to study sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid considering people s attitudes when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also take into account people s interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that sociologists must inquire about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own behaviors. These Sociologists were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their prior work led to the development of Sociology in America. This is not typical of your average girl, or even a 9 year old girl. Throughout the story there are symbols that show the audience Andy s conflicts with herself and her gender or sexuality. It is also clear that she struggles with herself and her gender role in society. Gender roles are the result of the behavior of sexes in society (Basow 1992). This means that men and women act a certain way to fit society s needs. In 1985, there were apparent roles for gender. For example, the women usually stayed at home while the men were out working or away. The women also stayed at home and cleaned the house, made dinner, and were considered the home maker. In Doe Season, the author represents this societal value. This is shown to the reader when it is said that her mother... cooked them eggs and French toast (Kaplan 290). Even though the mother is exhausted and clearly not wanting to be up that early, she is still up making breakfast for her husband and daughter. Whether the incidents include a fellow character or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the males, or downright treating the female protagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be homemakers who cook and clean. It takes the vanitas genre of art, done using oil on canvas measuring 65.4 cm by 54.3 cm which is exhibited at the Barnes Foundation, Merion, Pennsylvania, USA (Lindsay 1969, 23). This work represents a powerful and essential link between the materialistic artistic movement of Expressionism and the ephemeral features of Impressionism. The painting features a dark background with planes of color used in the foreground and on objects to create space and depth of perspective. Texture is used to create a tonal harmony devoid of tactile or sensual appeal, therefore portraying volume. However, Cezanne leaves little room for color and volume to play their great roles as light diffuses to the balanced tints of ochre. Space is created by the absolute stillness of the piece thereby affirming the painter as a great master of composition, color, and design.
