A sense of irony is created as the most honest people in the film are labelled as mentally unstable
(Donnie is diagnosed with schizophrenia) or, in Ms Pomeroy s case, unsuitable figures of
authority, whereas characters such as Jim Cunningham, while famous and respected are revealed
as false (Donnie burns down Jim s house to expose a kiddie porn dungeon ).
While outcasts of society, they all are connected by their position, which could be seen as either a

She was not only the first American woman but also the youngest astronautin space. She went

space two times. On her journey into space for the first time Ride worked the robotic arm which
helped place satellites in space, assisted the commander during ascent, re entry, landing, and acting
as flight engineer. Not only did Ride battle stereotypes throughout her time at NASA, but she kept
her personal life very quiet. She was involved with Tam O Shaughnessy, although this was
unknown until her death. Ride died of pancreatic cancer in 2012 at only the age of 61.
