The Importance Of Return To The Army
Before you get in you must know your mission or you would be lost and stranded in this anarchy place
filled with chaos, destruction, and food. As soon as you get inside you must survey your surroundings
for the assassinators and agitators that will try and stop you from fulfilling you mission, but before
you get there you must put up your defence against the deadly ones that push you right out of their
way onto the ghastly unsanitized ground. Where you would be ambushed with humiliation and shot
with the amusing faces staring at you from high up. Once you made it on the line you must sand
strong from the beggars who would booby trap you into overloading your brain with their confusing
orders .Then you must stop the enemy who tries to ooze their way in the front of you, you must bring
forth sudden destruction by telling the commander and chief; the teacher where they would execute or

Representation Of African American Films
The medium of film and television have not been effectively coding the many American conflicts of
the past decades. The roles of superheroes, villains, and antiheroes have always been used in every
film and media directly or indirectly, introducing which is which. Since the beginning of modern film,
many movies plots and conflicts have revolved around a protagonist or several protagonists faced with
an opposing force that is disturbing the order of things, usually another individual bent on malicious
intent. A battle between the good and the bad, the heroic and the villainous. Unfortunately, the
conflicts between good and bad have not been effectively introduced through this medium.
Throughout history, the definition of what is good and what is bad has also changed slightly as a result
of the effects of the Sexual Revolution and the Judeo Christian ethic, and this has indeed been
reflected in the more modern movies of today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, politics, most notably the presidential election, through the medium of television has
become very confusing and has turned audience s attention to subjects that do not matter much. In
addition, films about racism, particularly towards African Americans, serve only as propaganda to
feed SJW rhetoric into the minds of Americans. Furthermore, the lack of films and media coverage of
educational reform has made audiences uninformed about this issue. On the other hand, the medium of
film has succeeded in providing an effective discussion of income inequality in America. Although
film and media has succeeded in providing accurate information about income inequality in America,
they have failed in effectively coding the conflicts of politics, racism, and education

Why Is Mary Lincoln Insane
Many know Mary Todd Lincoln as Abraham Lincoln s wife who is considered to be crazy, or insane.
However, many who know and study Mary Lincoln s background, are more sympathetic to her mental
state, and try to find the truth behind her present, or not present mental illness. It is a debate still
argued over today with many historians whether or not she was insane enough to be sent to an asylum
like she was forced to do. Since there is no possible way to study her mental state presently, historians
rely on letters, stories, texts, and present day medical knowledge in order to form their most accurate
conclusion of Mary Lincoln s mental state. Their conclusions widely differ; however, most historians
do agree that Mary Todd Lincoln s childhood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, historians do disagree on the level of mental instability this would have caused her to
endure. The historians that argue that Mary Lincoln was not insane, but was suffering emotional
trauma, consider Mary Lincoln to be narcissistic, or just emotionally unstable instead of mentally.
Historian Jean Baker is one who argues this point of view. She stresses the deaths throughout Mary s
life, and the psychological importance they have in her emotional behavior. After the death of her
mother, Mary would always view death as an abandonment of a loved one. Mary felt she was unloved
and abandoned by her family when they passed away. She diagnoses Mary Lincoln with narcissism.
Baker goes on to argue that during the Victorian era, marriage and childbearing were signs of a
complete woman, but if a woman failed at this, or had a child die, then society has reason to look
down on the woman as not fulfilling her duty. Therefore, Mary also had the world to view and judge
her behavior, adding to the pressure she was already under. When her son, Robert, brought her to trial
for lunacy, Baker points out that even the lawyer Robert chose to represent Mary tried to back out
because he had his own doubts about her accused insanity. Baker feels that a broken heart is not a
broken mind. Historians Justin and Linda Turner also argue this approach. They look back to Mary s
childhood, and rely on Dr. W.A. Evan s analysis of how the death of Mary s mother, at such a young
age, was a traumatic experience for her. He says she was most likely over indulged after this event,
and then later on she was denied proper training in areas such as patience, because of the overcrowded
home she was living in. The Turners use Mary s own letters to, in a sense, let her speak for herself.
They find her problems to be

As a child growing up in Communist China, I woke up every morning to the blasting of People s
Central Broadcasting Station from a large radio on the dresser and fell asleep every evening in the
surreptitious murmuring of Voices from America from a small radio by Grandpa s pillow. By fourth
grade, I figured out that the two stations often reported the same events from opposite standpoints,
using different words and tones, and thus projected contradictory interpretations onto the same events.
Eager to share this revelation with my grandparents, I pointed out the differences between the two
stations by singing their respective theme songs and by imitating the voices of their newscasters. To

This past summer, I conducted thesis research on communal and private spaces in Shanghai, where,
through video interviews with former residents, I traced the external and internal, concrete and
abstract changes in three houses from their inceptions to the present. Each house may be thought of as
a palimpsest of memories, of which every wall has markings from different decades, and every altar
held a succession of gods and idols. In excavating these private histories, I was particularly struck by
the ambivalent and ironic moments, where it was impossible to draw a clear line between good and
evil, between innocence and guilt, where the humanity of the situation was stripped of the cloak of
abstract principles and became uniquely touching.
Driven by the wish to rescue common people s stories from sweeping historical master narratives and
by the impulse to help different cultures understand one another on a profound, human level, I want to
be a writer and documentary filmmaker, so that I can pay intimate attention to individuals while
dealing with larger issues. Film, in particular, can immerse its audience in the world it recreates,
allowing them to recognize themselves in others and thereby bridging the distance between the two.

The Case Of Nino V. The Jewelry Exchange Essay
In the case of Nino v. The Jewelry Exchange, there were allegations brought forth by Rajae Nino who
felt he was discriminated against by his former employer, on the account of his gender and national
origin. When he was employed with said employer, he was given a copy of the company s
employment contract by the human resources manager and instructed him to read it and sign it without
affording him any opportunity to negotiate over its terms. With most discrimination cases, the EEOC
encourages the parties to discrimination charges to use mediation (Walsh, p. 20), with this case the
employer invoked an arbitration provision in Nino s employment contract wherein the Court of
Appeals decided the arbitration agreement was unconscionable and therefore unenforceable. On the
flip side, if the unconscionable terms were removed from the contract, the remainder of the
employment contract could be enforced. Additionally, when it comes to a contract being labeled as
unconscionable , it relates to the process of contract formation essentially involves a take it or leave it
offer of an agreement drafted by a more powerful party (a contract of adhesion ) and when the
contents of the agreement unreasonably favor the more powerful party (p. 22). With the term
procedurally unconscionable , which is what Judge Fuentes pointed out Nino had no opportunity to
negotiate with DI over the contract terms, DI was the stronger contractual party, and the arbitration
agreement is thus

For each of the four conditions below, give the expected changes (increased, decreased, or normal) for
PaO2 and SpO2/SaO2

PaO2
SpO2 / SaO2
Severe Anaemia
PaO2 remains normal. Severe anaemia is caused by a reduced amount of RBCs in the body. Oxygen
pressure only measures the free, unbound oxygen dissolved in the plasma. Since severe anaemia is
deficient in RBCs (oxygen molecules bound in haemoglobin in an RBC), it does not affect the oxygen
pressure.
Likewise, SaO2 remains normal. The oxygen saturation measures the amount of oxygen molecules
bound in the haemoglobin. Even if the the RBCs in the body are inadequate, the oxygen saturation can
still be normal since the remaining RBCs can still maintain an adequate amount of haemoglobin

Women s Role Of Women In The Meiji Restoration
Women in the Meiji Restoration During the Meiji era and revolution, the presence of strong leaders
led to the continuous progression of policies on the equality between sexes. The leaders urged the
female gender to arise and advocate for their rights. Fukuzawa Yukichi was the first scholar to speak
out on the rights of women inclusive of their positions and roles in the society. He made emphasis in
the creation of education policies for the women and their improvement within the society. The
American missionaries on their arrival to Japan advocated towards the abolishment of the mistress
customs and law. Also, patriarchy was inclusive of the policies they wanted to be abolished. Women
roles in the home were mainly characterized by them being good wives. They were required to obey
their husbands and raise intelligent children. The requirement was that they be obedient to the man of
the house that was their father, husband, and son when their husbands were deceased. The women
were responsible for cooking, taking care of both young and elderly, and fed the family members. The
Meiji government started the school policy with the advancement on the principle of gender equality.
The leaders and authority established it was essential to educate citizens to ensure the modernization
of Japan. An education code was created in 1872 with the establishment of approximately 20, 000
schools through the country. However, there were more boys than girls enrollment due to the Japanese

Film Analysis Of Elia Kazan s On The Waterfront
Elia Kazan s On the Waterfront is a film that tries to show the reasoning for someone in a difficult
situation. For example, the struggle someone goes through when trying to figure out what the right
thing to do for them morally. The film follows Terry, a brutish type character yet very empathetic of a
man. This type of character makes the audience feel for someone going through this kind of turmoil as
they feel for him in a way as though it were themselves having this dilemma. On the Waterfront plays
with the gray area in life, and frustration of it there never being a black and white answer. For Terry,
the symbol for the black or bad guys are the people who are his only family and were there for him his
whole life. The white or good guys being love and moral duty that are portrayed by Edie Doyle and
Father Barry. The good show him a world out there that he doesn t have to betray himself on what he
feels is wrong. Though how can he go against all those that have stood for him and raised him up
when he had nothing?
It is only when the decision is almost made for him, when the bad guys kill Terry s brother, that he is
able to rise to what is right to him and speak to the law.
Terry is almost a symbol for Kazan in this time period, after and during the HUAC trials period.
Kazan seemed to a struggle with what the right thing to do was, as many of his fiends could be
identified with the communist party. Kazan felt as though the only moral thing to do was to name
names. He looked at the Communist Party as one with current day Russia at the time and the horrible
things it is performing, including its persecution against Poland and Czechoslovakia. Though if Kazan
were to talk and name names he would be going against his friends. This is like Terry, where talking is
going against his family or the mob but staying silent would mean there would be more people like
Joey Doyle getting knocked off. Terry fills as though this would be at his dispense, just as Kazan
seemed to feel the same about the Communist Party.
Him talking to the HUAC was incredibly interesting, as Kazan previous works and by the friends he
surrounded himself with. One of his more prominent friendships was with Arthur Miller. The two

Tidal Energy
Tidal Energy
Introduction
Climate change refers to any long term change in Earth s climate, or in the climate of a region or city.
This includes warming, cooling and changes besides temperature. (NASA Oct.2011) Earth is going
through the climate change of global warming. Climate change is causing a big threat that would
cause great catastrophe to the world and this problem will influence everyone around the world. These
changes are caused by the greenhouse gases which are produced when burning fossil fuels and
transportation. When fossil fuels are burned, they generate a fair amount of energy for people, but at
the same time, produce large amounts of pollution that damages our Earth. To slow down climate
change, we need to start making changes and shift our sole energy source from burning fossil fuels to
an alternative renewable energy source. While tidal energy is an interesting technology and is capable
of providing us a carbon free society, but it can never generate enough energy to reduce the burning of
fossil fuels because of the massive cost for the project and there is limited places in the world to install
the technology.

Tidal energy is converted based on the movements of tides. Tidal power is the result of Earth s rotation
combined with the sun and moon s gravity. The tides come mostly from the Moon s gravity and a little
from the Sun s gravity. So as the Earth rotates, the ocean surface rises and falls. Compared to nuclear
reserves or fossil fuels, the resource of tidal energy will not run out or end unless the sun and moon
does. Usually, there are two high tides and two low tides each day. With all the water moving up and
down, we can capture the kinetic energy from the tides. It works just like wind turbine except ocean
tides turn the blades instead of wind. (Climate Kids,

Symptoms And Treatment Of Infection Control
Infection Control
Since the manual handling task requires close contact with the patient, all handlers should follow strict
infection control protocols in ICU. A recent study showed that by strictly following infection control
protocols the incidence of hospital acquired infections could be reduced (8). In addition, an
observational study concluded that better hospital wide infection control would reduce the number of
MRSA positive patients admitted to ICU and acquisition of MRSA within ICU (9). Therefore, it is
important to minimize the spread of the infection by performing the following aseptic techniques.
Hand washing is the most important methods of preventing the spread of infection (7). Radiographers
should wash their hands before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there is no universal approach and best practices must be adapted to fit the epidemiology of
specific ICUs and should also consider the available resources (10).
Radiation safety
Radiation safety of patients, radiographers and other individuals in ICU should be considered
according to the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle. General radiation safety
principles include time, distance and shielding (7). Since the patient is male, no pregnancy check is
needed.
To protect the patient, the length of time that a patient remains in the path of the x ray beam should be
minimized. Therefore, it is important for radiographers to avoid unnecessary repeats and thus
unnecessary exposure. Gonad shielding should be used on patients if possible, which is particularly
important for young patients. In addition, proper collimations and adjusted exposure factors should be
applied according to patient situations to minimize radiation dose (7).
Radiographers should protect themselves as well. The time spent in radiation fields should be limited
by taking shifts. Radiographers should stand as far away from source as possible to increase distance
between radiation source and themselves. They should stand behind appropriate radiation shields or,
more commonly, wear appropriate protection (7). According to a previous study, lead apron is the
most common method of radiation protection as it may

The Conversion Of Roman Emperor

Research Paper
The conversion of Roman Emperor, Constantine, marked the start of a reform that would change
Rome forever. A once pagan society, Rome was one of the last to grasp the Christianity concept. The
start of Christianizing Rome began with two of Jesus disciples, Peter and James, as well as the apostle
Paul in the Roman province of Antioch during the first century ( New Women of Color Study Bible
1742). From this, Christianity spread all over the province, by the time it got to Rome it was not
widely practiced. It wasn t until the reign of Constantine that Christianity took its place as the empires
forefront religion. Since Rome was known for its worship and idolizing of gods, how and for what
reasons did Constantine transform his subjects beliefs? According to authors, Ramsay MacMullen,
John Curran, and A.H.M. Jones, a number of tactics were used to sway the masses minds. Use of
coercion, money, and campaigns aided Constantine s questionable Christian cleanse .
During the reign of Constantine, cash was quite a factor in conversion of the people. As described by
Ramsay MacMullen, There [was] also an element familiar only from the time of Constantine s reign
forward: imperial cash gifts, some of them quite gigantic (MacMullen 88). These particular cash gifts
were used mainly for church growth. In order to create a steady base of believers Constantine
permitted the enticement of followers by way of church officials. Just as

Example Of The Unsung Heros
Some people view a hero as a man that saves a child from a burning building, or a man that stops the
robber at the bank. Although they re not wrong a hero can be much more, most heros go unheard of
and are not rewarded. On the other hand some heros do get noticed for their courageous acts and are
rewarded with a medal or other objects that signified they have helped the world. The hero s I want to
show you are some of the unsung heros that did great things. I define a hero as being a self sacrificing,
determined, and a brave ordinary person.
Ever seen a hero sacrifice himself for others, if so this is probably a hero like John roberts who put his
life on the line for the greater good. This section of hero usually results in the death of one man to
save many. This example from Listverse.com about 1st Lieutenant John Robert in WW2 shows just
that. Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient and Prince look a like 1st Lieutenant John Robert Fox
was directing artillery fire in the Italian town of Sommocolonia to stall a German advance. While Fox
was directing fire, a large German force moved in on his position.Realising that this force was a huge
threat to his men, Fox called a final artillery strike on himself. When his men eventually retook the
position, Fox s body was found next to approximately 100 dead German troops and a medal was
placed neatly on his chest. This is truly moving who knows if he didn t sacrifice himself it could have
turned the tide for WW2.

Rate Responsive Pacemaker Report
Although heart has its own rhythm and natural electronics stimulation, pacemaker refers an artificial
internal or external device that is implanted in to the chest to regulate and maintain hearts natural
rhythm. In simple word pacemaker send impulse to heart chamber when weak signal of impulse
generated by the heart SA node. My project was based on Rate Responsive pacing systems. During the
day body need different amount of oxygen in the body depending on the state of sleeping, exercise,
sitting, standing and running. When our heart is unable to pump at require rate a rate responsive
pacemaker is comes into action. A rate responsive pacemaker works on principle of special sensors to
recognize changes in how much blood and oxygen are needed by the body during the day. Based on
this information, the heart rate is adjusted to meet the body s changing needs for blood flow.
Figure 1 shows basic block diagram of Temperature sensor based rate responsive pacemaker. The first

The budget is the basis for any form of financial stability, from household to business to country.
So what is a budget and how will it help?
It s not a magic fix to money problems, quite the reverse, it is a tool to help you see where the
problems are. If you re overspending then a budget will help you see where your problems are, but it
won t fix them. That ll be down to you to spend less. There s no other way to do it.
But it can make a big difference in telling you where your money is going. That £2 a day on a coffee,
£3 on a sandwich and £8 on a pack of cigarettes? That comes to £4745 per year. Surprised? That s
where the budget will help you.
How do you set up a budget?
There are two routes to go down, you can either build your own budget or use a template. I would
always recommend building your own budget, it s tailored to exactly what you want see and is as
simple as you make it. The problem with templates is that they can be incredibly hard to customise
and get the information that would be useful to you.
That being said, there are good

Peter Hessler and China
Peter Hessler and a fellow Peace Corp. volunteer were placed in Fuling, and poor town on the Yangtze
River in rural China. River Town is more or less a journal of what it was like being in Fuling on a day
to day basis. He illustrates his experience through stories of trips he took, people that he became close
with, and situations that required an open mind. Peter s job was teaching English literature at a small
college in the town; and through this was able to learn both about the tightly controlled nature of being
a foreigner in China, as well as some of the thoughts of the younger generation through various
assignments. He was greeted as a hero and was lavished upon, but at the same time found it very
difficult to be accepted by the locals, cadres or not.
Many hot topics were addressed, from the Cultural Revolution under Mao Zedong, to the
independence of Taiwan. It is amazing how nationalized China is and how standardized thinking is
there. To the people there; Mao is good because he is a revolutionary, and Taiwan is bad because they
should be part of China. Everything is simplified into this style of thinking and debate is not a valid
avenue for students (or teachers for that matter) to take. Hessler constantly fought with his position as
a foreigner, even after two years of living in the town. Ethnocentrism is evident in China just like it is
everywhere else, and even though Peter tried very hard to blend in, he was never truly able to shed his

Changing Structure of Watch Industry
SWISS WATCH MARKET
In 1970s the Swiss industry produced around 75 million units per year as compared to 25 million units
in 1940s.
Since 1966, when the Swiss Government s restriction on sale and acquisition of watch companies
lapsed, the industry experienced a crescendo of mergers, bringing down the number of firms to around
1000.
In 1971, ASUAG , the super trust combined the assembling firms selling seven different brands into
the General Watch Holding Company. This move forged important new financial and managerial links
between the component manufacturing and assembling sectors of the watch industry.
By 1971 almost three quarters of all Swiss watch exports were accounted for by eight watch making
groups.

manufacturing industry. In fact, only two U.S. watch companies, Bulova and Timex, were involved in
any domestic watch production.
Since the beginning, U.S. companies have struggled to cope with the labour requirements of
watchmaking.
Some U.S. watch sellers never tried; from the start imported finished watches or movements and
simply put them in watch cases here. Other firms tackled the problem by locating at least part of their
production overseas. Bulova and Gruen, for example, established their own manufacturing plants in
Switzerland in the early years of the 1980s.
After the Second World, jeweled lever watches dominated the U.S. market.
Then during the 1950s and early 1960s the situation changed drastically. Timex first stormed the low
price end of the watch market and later moved up into the middle price range. At the same time
marginal Swiss producers flooded the U.S. market with inexpensive pin lever and jeweled lever
watches making price competition all the more severe.
In 1960s the Japanese began to carve out their piece of the U.S. market. On top of this, the mass
merchandising revolution of the 1950s threw the traditional watch distribution system, sales through
jewelers and fine department stores, into chaos. To survive in a market dominated by price
competition, one after another U.S. watch company gave up on domestic watch manufacturing until,
by 1970 there were only two survivors Bulova and Timex.

treatment of the residents. Willowbrook initially opened as a new hospital serving WWII veterans

The Willowbrook research also contributed to the public debate over research ethics and the impetus
for regulation (NAP, 2004). This research does not downplay the egregious acts of the research or
coercing family members or guardians to consent to the research study through allowing entry into the
school via the experiment venue. The residents of the school suffered while being exposed to a live
hepatitis virus and while living in severely unsanitary conditions with undertrained and unsupervised
staff that performed acts of violence on residents of the school. Children were sitting on the floor,
some nude covered in feces, rocking back and forth making pitiful sounds. Willowbrook was a state
school, yet there was very little education happening. This was simply a dumping ground for the city s
unwanted children. The staff, overwhelmed and under supervised, resorted to prison style control
tactics: disruptive residents were confined in solitary pits and left for hours or were beaten with keys
and sticks (Starogannis Hill, 2008, p. 89). Evidently the research setting was not the optimal setting;
the research was performed during a time when guidelines were nonexistent. Protection of the
residents was put aside to reach for a vaccine that would aid many more than were affected which
places into question the ethical behaviors of the determining entities.

classifies, and interpret the cost of products or services. In addition, the concepts of cost accounting
are to account for the incurrence and control of cost and measure the operating efficiency of a
company on a periodical basis. Cost accounting, as defined here, deals with the rest when, and if, such
measurement helps management drive the organization to work better and cost less. (Geiger, 1995, pg.
).
Hence, cost accounting provides management with substantial, compelling, and relevant data that they

The primary methods of cost accounting include activity based costing (ABC), performance measures
method, and the standard accounting method and each method involves different processes,
measurement capabilities, cost benefits, and potential costing issues, companies experience.
Activity based costing (ABC) Method
While analyzing how companies within the service industry utilize activity based cost (ABC), Onat,
Anitsal, Anitsal, (2014), stated that Activity based costing (ABC) focuses on the idea that activities
create costs, while products use activities to gain value added. (pg. 150). In general, this means that
the theory behind activity based costing (ABC) method is that merchandises or services consume
activities and activities consume resources. When used, activity based costing first recognizes key
activities that create overhead costs. Secondly, the activities that have similar cost drivers are then
categorized into cost pools, and finally allocates the total overhead costs for products and services by
computing absorption rate of each cost pool, respectively. Some issues associated with activity based
costing (ABC) is that it is expensive to implement and data can easily be misrepresented. One of the
critical issue company encounter while utilizing the activity based costing method is that it is difficult
to separate some overhead costs the CEO of the company

Reasons For The American Revolution
The American Revolution was a brutal war which lasted for many years, where many brave men lost
their lives. A war of this scaled didn t spontaneously occur, many laws, acts and events drove the
colonists over the edge to rebellion. The colonists were taxed heavily prior to the revolution to fund
Britain s wars (1), as well as were required to shelter and provide food for any British solider when
requested. After many more outrages laws were passed with no representation of the colonists in the
creation of these laws (2), an uprising against Britain began, leading to the American Revolution.
Three of the major reasons why the American Revolution was sparked was due to the
French and Indian war, the royal proclamation and the Sugar and Molasses act. In 1754 the French
built forts on the terribly defined border in the upper Ohio River valley to attempt to strengthen their
claim on the land (1). The British retaliated by attempting to expel the French from the forts which
was a complete failure (1). When the news of this failure reached Britain a retaliation plan was formed
which was made public by the prime minister s advisors, escalating the small dispute into a full scale
war (1). This seven year war unfortunately was extremely expensive, and only ended when the Treaty
of Paris was signed in 1763 (1). This extremely expensive and unnecessary war was funded by the
colonists, by taxing them a ridiculous (1). This caused an increase on the already growing resentment
for the British. Britain also limited western expansion by the colonists, which further angered the
colonists (1), which they called the royal proclamation, which occurred in 1763. Because the west was
still inhabited by the French and Indians who didn t want to lose their land, the colonists had trouble
expanding west. Since the British just achieved peace with the French they didn t want to further
anger the French by the colonists taking their land, therefore they didn t allow the colonists to expand
west. This made increasing infrastructure and gaining more recourses a lot harder, angering the
colonists. Furthermore, a year later the British modified the old Sugar and Molasses act into a new
one. The new act stated that colonial merchants were

Who Is Peter The Great Leader
One of Russia s Greatest Leaders: Peter the Great
The world is chaotic by nature. For this reason, both men and women alike have stepped forward to
lead their people. As such, these people have been gifted with valor and courage to take their countries
into ever lasting prosperity. An example of this kind of leader would be the grand emperor of Russia,
Peter the Great (1672 1725). Peter the Great is a man who put his country before himself. As a matter
of fact, Peter died saving one of his servants who fell overboard on one of his many expeditions. One

A bitter struggle soon advanced for the throne between the two families, the Miloslavskys and the
Naryshkins. The Naryshkins won. With the support by the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church,
a majority in the Boyar Duma (Russia s council of nobles), and a gathering of the gentry (untitled
landowners), the nine year old Peter was proclaimed tsar in April of 1682. Because of his youth, his
mother became regent, while her relatives and friends secured leading positions in the state. However,
as early as May, the Miloslavsky party, led by Alexis s able and strong willed daughter Sofia, Peter s
half sister, inspired a rebellion of the Streltsy, musketeers who made up Russia s top military corps.
The Streltsy in Moscow murdered top members of the Naryshkin group2. There, Peter witnessed these
murders and the Miloslavskys seized power. At the request of the Streltsy, the Boyar Duma declared
Ivan senior tsar and allowed Peter to be junior tsar. A little later, Sofiawas made regent with the
justification that the sickly and feeble minded Ivan was unable to rule. From 1682 to 1689 Sofiaand
her associates controlled Muscovy, while Peter I spent time with the Naryshkin party in the village of
Preobrazhenskoye.
A final confrontation between the Miloslavsky and Naryshkin happened in August 1689. Peter group

Tar Sands, By Jon Brownell
Tar Sands Essay Jon Brownell The Alberta Tar Sands are large deposits of bitumen,a sticky, black and
viscous semi solid form of petroleum.(Merriam Webster) The bitumen is extracted from the earth and
separated from materials that are not petroleum. This process consumes both water from the
Athabasca River drainage basin and energy. While emissions from the water used are low the airborne
pollutants contain more than 350 kilograms of cancer causing chemicals every four months.(Kelly)
Also, bitumen is one of the least efficient power sources in the world.(Rapier) The Tar Sands are
dangerous for people to live near, are environmentally damaging and unsustainable and are an
inefficient source of power compared to other sources available in Canada. While the Tar Sands are
currently good for the canadian economy, in the long term they will cost us more than they make. The
content of cancer causing chemicals like PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) is twice as high as
the standard recommended by the national oceanic and atmospheric administration in the United
States. These levels have been observed to cause liver cancer in fish. (Timoney 68) Fish from Lake
Athabasca have been found with deformities other than liver cancer, like lumps or bumps. Cancer
levels in people who live in Fort Chipewyan are much higher than in other parts of the country.

The Importance Of Water Scarcity In Egypt
Air, food, water, they are the keys of people to survive, it is no doubt that people can t survive without
anyone of these, thus, water is one of crucial thing that people need. In recent year, water
sustainability become a popular topic because water scarcity is quite serious around the world, about
1.2 billion people or nearly 20% of the world s population face physical scarcity, another 25% of
population live in a country which lack of necessary equipment to get water from river or lake (United
Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2014) ,and water sustainability is to make sure
people have clean water to use in future. Egypt face a water problem, bad location and inefficient
water use, but government have some solutions like use water more efficient and reduce waste. Israel
used to be a water scarcity country, but now, this problem has been solved by new technology.
Egypt is one of most water stressed country in the world. Two reasons which directly leads to water
scarcity in Egypt. One of main reason is location, Egypt is located in Africa, and surrounded by Israel,
Libya, Sudan and Red Sea, in addition, most areas of Egypt are deserts, these deserts cause hot and
dry climate (Wolvetang 2015). Inefficient irrigation also leads to water scarcity in Egypt. Because
almost 80 mm of rainfall per year, and only 6% of land is suitable for agriculture in Egypt, which

Chaucer s Parody To Courtly Love Essay example
Chaucer s Parody To Courtly Love
After the Knight tells his story, the Miller insists very rudely to tell his tale. Chaucer uses the aspect of
courtly love which is found in the Knights tale and makes a parody of it; He uses the Miller?s
character to mock the Knights idea of courtly love.
Miller describes the heroine of his story Alison, as a wife of an older man and also an infidel. She?s
compared to a ?wezele? sly and cunning. The description of Alison clearly indicates that she is very
different from an innocent girl from courtly love stories instead she?s well aware of her husbands
jealousy and wears elaborate cloths to show off her beauty.

Miller firstly describes Nicholas as a young scholar who stays as a paying guest with the carpenter,
?And al above ther lay a gay sautrie,?he mad a nightes melodie?
Nicholas is described to have a decorated room, he is a lively man and depends on his friends as he
cant afford to pay all of his rent.
Chaucer continuously uses the word ?hende? when ever he refers to
Nicholas this word would usually mean gentle but as we see that
Nicholas is not described to be courteous or gracious the word is ironically used to suggest that he is
sly and opportunist. Again there is no sign of a hero from courtly love romances.
Nicholas openly expresses his lust to Alison ?love me al atones, or I wol dyen?. Again reflecting back
to the Knights tale in which the lovers stay calm and modestly await the time till when they can get
their love. But here Miller completely mocks that idea of the Knight and so makes a parody out of it.
Alison who at first refuses to kiss
Nicholas then within seconds agrees to sleeping with him, Nicholas very easily persuades Alison ?
spak so faire, and profred him so faste,? Chaucer shows how the miller parody?s this with the courtly
love tale of the Knight as Emily in the Knights tale is extremely innocent about matters of love.
The second lover that the Miller introduces is Absolon who is suppose to be a parish clerk but has
extraordinary talents. He takes more care of his appearance

The United States Of The Industrial Revolution
Earth provides enough to satisfy every man s needs, but not every man s greed. Mahatma Gandhi
Since the start of the Industrial Revolution the United States of America has been dependent on
burning fossil fuels for energy. In 2015 nearly sixty seven percent of energy generated in the United
States was from fossil fuels including coal, natural gas, and petroleum. The United States had been
aware of a large abundance of natural gas in shale rock formations thousands of feet below the
surface; however, when they first found these rocks around 1940 there was no technology or tools
advanced enough to drill into these rocks, until the 1970s and 1980s. Companies worked endlessly
finding a way to allow shale rocks to release the gas that they held. Companies eventually came up
with a practice called hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking; this process utilizes water pressure
to fracture or break a rock in order to release and collect fuel such as gas or oil. In recent years,
companies have mixed sand, chemicals and other proponents to retrieve the maximum amount of gas
that each drilling site has to offer. A heated debate has begun concerning these mixtures and the money
involved in fracking. While one side asserts that fracking should be banned because of potential
environmental damage produced by the fracking mixtures, others claim that fracking should continue
because of potential gains it could provide for the economy in the United States.

Multiculturalism And Media Analysis
While American mainstream media has often been notorious and often ridiculed for being directed
towards specifically white audiences, the rise of populations of color has recently altered the target
audience of media industries. While minorities have made up the population long before, only recently

Linville Valley Fire Case Study
Nestled deep in the mountains of Western North Carolina, the Linville Gorge is a federally designated
wilderness area that is part of Pisgah National Forest. This unique slice of southern Appalachia is
managed by the Grandfather Ranger District and is located in the Blue Ridge Escarpment near the
town of Marion, NC. To the east, Linville Gorge is bordered by Jonas Ridge, and the slopes of Linville
Mountain form the western border. The two steep sides create a terrain that is extremely rugged and
rocky, which would seemingly make it difficult for vegetation to establish communities on the canyon
walls. However, this is not the case, as the gorge has very dense populations of hardwoods, conifers,
and understory shrubs. The intimidating topography of the Linville Gorge Wilderness area enabled it

The fire began as the result of an out of control campfire, and because of high wind and drought
conditions which resulted in low fuel moisture spread relatively quickly for an upland fire in the
southeastern United States, although not to the scale of western wildfires. Even though the 2000
Linville Gorge fire was mainly a surface fire, the fire burned 4,000 hectares of wilderness area, and
forced local management agencies to start paying more attention to upland ecosystems that were not
previously thought to be fire dependent. Considering the magnitude of the fire, it was fortunate that no
human lives or homes were lost in the inferno. Vegetative studies show that Mountain Laurel (Kalmia

Winter Solstice Short Story
Winter Solstice was a very special time in Stormholt, with Kenna and Val s friends visiting them every
year for a grand celebration. It was cold and windy that night, and even though Kenna and Val were
having fun, they were also feeling restless. Damn it Kenna, this dress is so itchy! I hate having to be so
formal. I know Val, but at least I let you do your hair the way you like. With an amorous look, Kenna
eyed Val up and down. You re not wearing anything underneath that dress are you, Val? Grinning at
Kenna, Val nodded, You know me too well. But I m pretty sure it s not just me. I guess you ll have to
find out later. As Val observed the way Kenna s hair flowed in the wind, she had a hard time
concentrating on anything else. ... and that s how I invented plumbing. I... Val! Are you even listening?
What? Oh yeah, very funny, Whitlock. Val! It s not supposed to be funny, it s supposed to be
interesting! Ok, then it s really interesting, Val said with her eyes locked on Kenna, not fully aware of
what she was even saying. Ugh, I don t know why I try with you, maybe Lia will be more considerate.
With that, Whitlock walked off, leaving Val alone with her wife. Kenna, this shouldn t be possible, but
when you re bathed in moonlight, you re even more beautiful. Placing her hand on Val s thigh, Kenna
smiled and gave her a kiss. Funny, I was just thinking the same thing about you, my gorgeous wife.
Kenna looked around to see if anyone was paying attention to them.

The Chemical Element Of Uranium
Background
Uranium (U) is a chemical element; it is a silvery white metal. It is one of the heaviest of all the
naturally occurring elements. It was discovered in 1789 by Martin Klaproth, it was named after the
planet Uranus, which was discovered eight years earlier. Uranium can be found naturally in small
amounts in rocks, air, soil and water.
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Atomic number 92
Atomic mass 238.03 g.mol 1
Density 18.95 g.cm 3 at 20°C
Boiling point 3818 °C
Melting point 1132 °C
Isotopes 11
Electro Negativity according to Pauling 1.7
Uranium is hard, malleable and ductile. Uranium metal has a very high density. It is very reactive so
cannot be found in the environment in its elemental form. When finely divided, it can react with cold
water. In air it is coated by uranium oxide, tarnishing rapidly. It is attacked by steam and acids. It has
the ability to form solid solutions and inter metallic compounds with many metals. While Uranium is
not hazardous by itself, some of its by products and decay products pose a huge threat upon build up.
Uranium is weakly radioactive due to its unstable isotopes; again it has gained importance in the
generation of Nuclear energy. It is of great demand in the production of bullets, missiles and bombs. It
is also used to fuel power plants by enriching it with the uranium 235 isotope. The isotope uranium
238 is used to estimate the age of rocks and also used for radiometric dating. Other

The Rule Of Antoninus Plus ( C. Ce )
During the rule of Antoninus Plus (c. 138 161 CE), Romans began to favor burials over cremations
and the demand for sarcophagi grew rapidly (Kleiner 215). Greek mythology was heavily borrowed
upon by the Roman and prominent members of the Roman society wanted to be commemorated in the
fashion of Greek heroes. The Romans took the general principles of an Egyptian sarcophagus and
added Greek mythology to create a unique piece of Roman art and The Sarcophagus Depicting a
Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is one such example. The Egyptians were the
first to use a sarcophagus to bury and commemorate their dead, and judging from the war themed
artwork on this Roman sarcophagus, it was most likely built to commemorate the death of a great
warrior. The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is a
massive piece of Roman funerary art made of a hollowed out block of white marble around 140 170
CE. Weighing an impressive 5511.5 pounds, the sarcophagus is 40 ½ x 91 ½ x 50 ½ inches in
dimension and is comprised of a lid and casket (The Museum of Fine Arts). The identity of the
sculptor is unknown, and considering the careful attention detail on this impressive work of art, it is
possible that crafting the sarcophagus was the work of multiple sculptors. Unlike the Egyptians, who
preferred gold, the mineral of choice for the Romans was marble. Unlike most Egyptian sarcophagi,
which had a portrait of the dead on the lid, the lid of the

US. Although outsourcing is a contributor to mass production and a products supply and demand

  • 3. Representation Of African American Films The medium of film and television have not been effectively coding the many American conflicts of the past decades. The roles of superheroes, villains, and antiheroes have always been used in every film and media directly or indirectly, introducing which is which. Since the beginning of modern film, many movies plots and conflicts have revolved around a protagonist or several protagonists faced with an opposing force that is disturbing the order of things, usually another individual bent on malicious intent. A battle between the good and the bad, the heroic and the villainous. Unfortunately, the conflicts between good and bad have not been effectively introduced through this medium. Throughout history, the definition of what is good and what is bad has also changed slightly as a result of the effects of the Sexual Revolution and the Judeo Christian ethic, and this has indeed been reflected in the more modern movies of today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, politics, most notably the presidential election, through the medium of television has become very confusing and has turned audience s attention to subjects that do not matter much. In addition, films about racism, particularly towards African Americans, serve only as propaganda to feed SJW rhetoric into the minds of Americans. Furthermore, the lack of films and media coverage of educational reform has made audiences uninformed about this issue. On the other hand, the medium of film has succeeded in providing an effective discussion of income inequality in America. Although film and media has succeeded in providing accurate information about income inequality in America, they have failed in effectively coding the conflicts of politics, racism, and education ... • 4. Why Is Mary Lincoln Insane Many know Mary Todd Lincoln as Abraham Lincoln s wife who is considered to be crazy, or insane. However, many who know and study Mary Lincoln s background, are more sympathetic to her mental state, and try to find the truth behind her present, or not present mental illness. It is a debate still argued over today with many historians whether or not she was insane enough to be sent to an asylum like she was forced to do. Since there is no possible way to study her mental state presently, historians rely on letters, stories, texts, and present day medical knowledge in order to form their most accurate conclusion of Mary Lincoln s mental state. Their conclusions widely differ; however, most historians do agree that Mary Todd Lincoln s childhood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, historians do disagree on the level of mental instability this would have caused her to endure. The historians that argue that Mary Lincoln was not insane, but was suffering emotional trauma, consider Mary Lincoln to be narcissistic, or just emotionally unstable instead of mentally. Historian Jean Baker is one who argues this point of view. She stresses the deaths throughout Mary s life, and the psychological importance they have in her emotional behavior. After the death of her mother, Mary would always view death as an abandonment of a loved one. Mary felt she was unloved and abandoned by her family when they passed away. She diagnoses Mary Lincoln with narcissism. Baker goes on to argue that during the Victorian era, marriage and childbearing were signs of a complete woman, but if a woman failed at this, or had a child die, then society has reason to look down on the woman as not fulfilling her duty. Therefore, Mary also had the world to view and judge her behavior, adding to the pressure she was already under. When her son, Robert, brought her to trial for lunacy, Baker points out that even the lawyer Robert chose to represent Mary tried to back out because he had his own doubts about her accused insanity. Baker feels that a broken heart is not a broken mind. Historians Justin and Linda Turner also argue this approach. They look back to Mary s childhood, and rely on Dr. W.A. Evan s analysis of how the death of Mary s mother, at such a young age, was a traumatic experience for her. He says she was most likely over indulged after this event, and then later on she was denied proper training in areas such as patience, because of the overcrowded home she was living in. The Turners use Mary s own letters to, in a sense, let her speak for herself. They find her problems to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cambridge Admissions Essay Cambridge Admissions Essay As a child growing up in Communist China, I woke up every morning to the blasting of People s Central Broadcasting Station from a large radio on the dresser and fell asleep every evening in the surreptitious murmuring of Voices from America from a small radio by Grandpa s pillow. By fourth grade, I figured out that the two stations often reported the same events from opposite standpoints, using different words and tones, and thus projected contradictory interpretations onto the same events. Eager to share this revelation with my grandparents, I pointed out the differences between the two stations by singing their respective theme songs and by imitating the voices of their newscasters. To my disappointment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This past summer, I conducted thesis research on communal and private spaces in Shanghai, where, through video interviews with former residents, I traced the external and internal, concrete and abstract changes in three houses from their inceptions to the present. Each house may be thought of as a palimpsest of memories, of which every wall has markings from different decades, and every altar held a succession of gods and idols. In excavating these private histories, I was particularly struck by the ambivalent and ironic moments, where it was impossible to draw a clear line between good and evil, between innocence and guilt, where the humanity of the situation was stripped of the cloak of abstract principles and became uniquely touching. Driven by the wish to rescue common people s stories from sweeping historical master narratives and by the impulse to help different cultures understand one another on a profound, human level, I want to be a writer and documentary filmmaker, so that I can pay intimate attention to individuals while dealing with larger issues. Film, in particular, can immerse its audience in the world it recreates, allowing them to recognize themselves in others and thereby bridging the distance between the two. My own immersion in a foreign culture, however, has been limited to the U.S.. Many other parts of the globe remain images and concepts to me, even Europe, a continent that has so deeply influenced and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Jewelry Exchange, there were allegations brought forth by Rajae Nino who felt he was discriminated against by his former employer, on the account of his gender and national origin. When he was employed with said employer, he was given a copy of the company s employment contract by the human resources manager and instructed him to read it and sign it without affording him any opportunity to negotiate over its terms. With most discrimination cases, the EEOC encourages the parties to discrimination charges to use mediation (Walsh, p. 20), with this case the employer invoked an arbitration provision in Nino s employment contract wherein the Court of Appeals decided the arbitration agreement was unconscionable and therefore unenforceable. On the flip side, if the unconscionable terms were removed from the contract, the remainder of the employment contract could be enforced. Additionally, when it comes to a contract being labeled as unconscionable , it relates to the process of contract formation essentially involves a take it or leave it offer of an agreement drafted by a more powerful party (a contract of adhesion ) and when the contents of the agreement unreasonably favor the more powerful party (p. 22). With the term procedurally unconscionable , which is what Judge Fuentes pointed out Nino had no opportunity to negotiate with DI over the contract terms, DI was the stronger contractual party, and the arbitration agreement is thus ... Women s Role Of Women In The Meiji Restoration Women in the Meiji Restoration During the Meiji era and revolution, the presence of strong leaders led to the continuous progression of policies on the equality between sexes. The leaders urged the female gender to arise and advocate for their rights. Fukuzawa Yukichi was the first scholar to speak out on the rights of women inclusive of their positions and roles in the society. He made emphasis in the creation of education policies for the women and their improvement within the society. The American missionaries on their arrival to Japan advocated towards the abolishment of the mistress customs and law. Also, patriarchy was inclusive of the policies they wanted to be abolished. Women roles in the home were mainly characterized by them being good wives. They were required to obey their husbands and raise intelligent children. The requirement was that they be obedient to the man of the house that was their father, husband, and son when their husbands were deceased. The women were responsible for cooking, taking care of both young and elderly, and fed the family members. The Meiji government started the school policy with the advancement on the principle of gender equality. • 9. Film Analysis Of Elia Kazan s On The Waterfront Elia Kazan s On the Waterfront is a film that tries to show the reasoning for someone in a difficult situation. For example, the struggle someone goes through when trying to figure out what the right thing to do for them morally. The film follows Terry, a brutish type character yet very empathetic of a man. This type of character makes the audience feel for someone going through this kind of turmoil as they feel for him in a way as though it were themselves having this dilemma. On the Waterfront plays with the gray area in life, and frustration of it there never being a black and white answer. For Terry, the symbol for the black or bad guys are the people who are his only family and were there for him his whole life. The white or good guys being love and moral duty that are portrayed by Edie Doyle and Father Barry. The good show him a world out there that he doesn t have to betray himself on what he feels is wrong. Though how can he go against all those that have stood for him and raised him up when he had nothing? It is only when the decision is almost made for him, when the bad guys kill Terry s brother, that he is able to rise to what is right to him and speak to the law. Terry is almost a symbol for Kazan in this time period, after and during the HUAC trials period. Kazan seemed to a struggle with what the right thing to do was, as many of his fiends could be identified with the communist party. Kazan felt as though the only moral thing to do was to name names. He looked at the Communist Party as one with current day Russia at the time and the horrible things it is performing, including its persecution against Poland and Czechoslovakia. Though if Kazan were to talk and name names he would be going against his friends. This is like Terry, where talking is going against his family or the mob but staying silent would mean there would be more people like Joey Doyle getting knocked off. Terry fills as though this would be at his dispense, just as Kazan seemed to feel the same about the Communist Party. Him talking to the HUAC was incredibly interesting, as Kazan previous works and by the friends he surrounded himself with. One of his more prominent friendships was with Arthur Miller. Disadvantages Of Tidal Energy Britney 2015/12/16 Tidal Energy Tidal Energy Introduction Climate change refers to any long term change in Earth s climate, or in the climate of a region or city. This includes warming, cooling and changes besides temperature. (NASA Oct.2011) Earth is going through the climate change of global warming. Climate change is causing a big threat that would cause great catastrophe to the world and this problem will influence everyone around the world. These changes are caused by the greenhouse gases which are produced when burning fossil fuels and transportation. When fossil fuels are burned, they generate a fair amount of energy for people, but at the same time, produce large amounts of pollution that damages our Earth. To slow down climate change, we need to start making changes and shift our sole energy source from burning fossil fuels to an alternative renewable energy source. While tidal energy is an interesting technology and is capable of providing us a carbon free society, but it can never generate enough energy to reduce the burning of fossil fuels because of the massive cost for the project and there is limited places in the world to install the technology. The tides come mostly from the Moon s gravity and a little from the Sun s gravity. So as the Earth rotates, the ocean surface rises and falls. Compared to nuclear reserves or fossil fuels, the resource of tidal energy will not run out or end unless the sun and moon does. Usually, there are two high tides and two low tides each day. With all the water moving up and down, we can capture the kinetic energy from the tides. It works just like wind turbine except ocean tides turn the blades instead of wind. (Climate Kids, ... Radiation safety Radiation safety of patients, radiographers and other individuals in ICU should be considered according to the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle. General radiation safety principles include time, distance and shielding (7). Since the patient is male, no pregnancy check is needed. To protect the patient, the length of time that a patient remains in the path of the x ray beam should be minimized. Therefore, it is important for radiographers to avoid unnecessary repeats and thus unnecessary exposure. Gonad shielding should be used on patients if possible, which is particularly important for young patients. In addition, proper collimations and adjusted exposure factors should be applied according to patient situations to minimize radiation dose (7). Radiographers should protect themselves as well. The time spent in radiation fields should be limited by taking shifts. Radiographers should stand as far away from source as possible to increase distance between radiation source and themselves. They should stand behind appropriate radiation shields or, more commonly, wear appropriate protection (7). • 12. The Conversion Of Roman Emperor Nathan Little HY 103 11/7/2014 Research Paper The conversion of Roman Emperor, Constantine, marked the start of a reform that would change Rome forever. A once pagan society, Rome was one of the last to grasp the Christianity concept. The start of Christianizing Rome began with two of Jesus disciples, Peter and James, as well as the apostle Paul in the Roman province of Antioch during the first century ( New Women of Color Study Bible 1742). From this, Christianity spread all over the province, by the time it got to Rome it was not widely practiced. It wasn t until the reign of Constantine that Christianity took its place as the empires forefront religion. Since Rome was known for its worship and idolizing of gods, how and for what reasons did Constantine transform his subjects beliefs? According to authors, Ramsay MacMullen, John Curran, and A.H.M. Jones, a number of tactics were used to sway the masses minds. Use of coercion, money, and campaigns aided Constantine s questionable Christian cleanse . During the reign of Constantine, cash was quite a factor in conversion of the people. As described by Ramsay MacMullen, There [was] also an element familiar only from the time of Constantine s reign forward: imperial cash gifts, some of them quite gigantic (MacMullen 88). These particular cash gifts were used mainly for church growth. In order to create a steady base of believers Constantine permitted the enticement of followers by way of church officials. Just as ... Peter s job was teaching English literature at a small college in the town; and through this was able to learn both about the tightly controlled nature of being a foreigner in China, as well as some of the thoughts of the younger generation through various assignments. He was greeted as a hero and was lavished upon, but at the same time found it very difficult to be accepted by the locals, cadres or not. Many hot topics were addressed, from the Cultural Revolution under Mao Zedong, to the independence of Taiwan. It is amazing how nationalized China is and how standardized thinking is there. To the people there; Mao is good because he is a revolutionary, and Taiwan is bad because they should be part of China. Everything is simplified into this style of thinking and debate is not a valid avenue for students (or teachers for that matter) to take. In fact, only two U.S. watch companies, Bulova and Timex, were involved in any domestic watch production. Since the beginning, U.S. companies have struggled to cope with the labour requirements of watchmaking. Some U.S. watch sellers never tried; from the start imported finished watches or movements and simply put them in watch cases here. Other firms tackled the problem by locating at least part of their production overseas. Bulova and Gruen, for example, established their own manufacturing plants in Switzerland in the early years of the 1980s. After the Second World, jeweled lever watches dominated the U.S. market. Then during the 1950s and early 1960s the situation changed drastically. Timex first stormed the low price end of the watch market and later moved up into the middle price range. At the same time marginal Swiss producers flooded the U.S. market with inexpensive pin lever and jeweled lever watches making price competition all the more severe. In 1960s the Japanese began to carve out their piece of the U.S. market. On top of this, the mass merchandising revolution of the 1950s threw the traditional watch distribution system, sales through jewelers and fine department stores, into chaos. • 23. Reasons For The American Revolution The American Revolution was a brutal war which lasted for many years, where many brave men lost their lives. A war of this scaled didn t spontaneously occur, many laws, acts and events drove the colonists over the edge to rebellion. The colonists were taxed heavily prior to the revolution to fund Britain s wars (1), as well as were required to shelter and provide food for any British solider when requested. After many more outrages laws were passed with no representation of the colonists in the creation of these laws (2), an uprising against Britain began, leading to the American Revolution. Three of the major reasons why the American Revolution was sparked was due to the French and Indian war, the royal proclamation and the Sugar and Molasses act. In 1754 the French built forts on the terribly defined border in the upper Ohio River valley to attempt to strengthen their claim on the land (1). The British retaliated by attempting to expel the French from the forts which was a complete failure (1). When the news of this failure reached Britain a retaliation plan was formed which was made public by the prime minister s advisors, escalating the small dispute into a full scale war (1). This seven year war unfortunately was extremely expensive, and only ended when the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1763 (1). This extremely expensive and unnecessary war was funded by the colonists, by taxing them a ridiculous (1). This caused an increase on the already growing resentment for the British. Britain also limited western expansion by the colonists, which further angered the colonists (1), which they called the royal proclamation, which occurred in 1763. Because the west was still inhabited by the French and Indians who didn t want to lose their land, the colonists had trouble expanding west. Since the British just achieved peace with the French they didn t want to further anger the French by the colonists taking their land, therefore they didn t allow the colonists to expand west. Chaucer uses the aspect of courtly love which is found in the Knights tale and makes a parody of it; He uses the Miller?s character to mock the Knights idea of courtly love. Miller describes the heroine of his story Alison, as a wife of an older man and also an infidel. She?s compared to a ?wezele? sly and cunning. The description of Alison clearly indicates that she is very different from an innocent girl from courtly love stories instead she?s well aware of her husbands jealousy and wears elaborate cloths to show off her beauty. ?Of col blak silk, withinne and eek withoute? Miller firstly describes Nicholas as a young scholar who stays as a paying guest with the carpenter, ?And al above ther lay a gay sautrie,?he mad a nightes melodie? Nicholas is described to have a decorated room, he is a lively man and depends on his friends as he cant afford to pay all of his rent. Chaucer continuously uses the word ?hende? when ever he refers to Nicholas this word would usually mean gentle but as we see that Nicholas is not described to be courteous or gracious the word is ironically used to suggest that he is sly and opportunist. Again there is no sign of a hero from courtly love romances. Nicholas openly expresses his lust to Alison ?love me al atones, or I wol dyen?. Again reflecting back to the Knights tale in which the lovers stay calm and modestly await the time till when they can get their love. But here Miller completely mocks that idea of the Knight and so makes a parody out of it. Alison who at first refuses to kiss Nicholas then within seconds agrees to sleeping with him, Nicholas very easily persuades Alison ? spak so faire, and profred him so faste,? Chaucer shows how the miller parody?s this with the courtly love tale of the Knight as Emily in the Knights tale is extremely innocent about matters of love. The second lover that the Miller introduces is Absolon who is suppose to be a parish clerk but has extraordinary talents. He takes more care of his appearance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mahatma Gandhi Since the start of the Industrial Revolution the United States of America has been dependent on burning fossil fuels for energy. In 2015 nearly sixty seven percent of energy generated in the United States was from fossil fuels including coal, natural gas, and petroleum. The United States had been aware of a large abundance of natural gas in shale rock formations thousands of feet below the surface; however, when they first found these rocks around 1940 there was no technology or tools advanced enough to drill into these rocks, until the 1970s and 1980s. Companies worked endlessly finding a way to allow shale rocks to release the gas that they held. Companies eventually came up with a practice called hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking; this process utilizes water pressure to fracture or break a rock in order to release and collect fuel such as gas or oil. In recent years, companies have mixed sand, chemicals and other proponents to retrieve the maximum amount of gas that each drilling site has to offer. A heated debate has begun concerning these mixtures and the money involved in fracking. While one side asserts that fracking should be banned because of potential environmental damage produced by the fracking mixtures, others claim that fracking should continue because of potential gains it could provide for the economy in the United States. This unique slice of southern Appalachia is managed by the Grandfather Ranger District and is located in the Blue Ridge Escarpment near the town of Marion, NC. To the east, Linville Gorge is bordered by Jonas Ridge, and the slopes of Linville Mountain form the western border. The two steep sides create a terrain that is extremely rugged and rocky, which would seemingly make it difficult for vegetation to establish communities on the canyon walls. The fire began as the result of an out of control campfire, and because of high wind and drought conditions which resulted in low fuel moisture spread relatively quickly for an upland fire in the southeastern United States, although not to the scale of western wildfires. Even though the 2000 Linville Gorge fire was mainly a surface fire, the fire burned 4,000 hectares of wilderness area, and forced local management agencies to start paying more attention to upland ecosystems that were not previously thought to be fire dependent. Considering the magnitude of the fire, it was fortunate that no human lives or homes were lost in the inferno. Vegetative studies show that Mountain Laurel (Kalmia latifolia), an evergreen shrub, reproduced much faster than other understory species (Dumas, Neufeld, Fisk, 2007). It was discovered in 1789 by Martin Klaproth, it was named after the planet Uranus, which was discovered eight years earlier. Uranium can be found naturally in small amounts in rocks, air, soil and water. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Atomic number 92 Atomic mass 238.03 g.mol 1 Density 18.95 g.cm 3 at 20°C Boiling point 3818 °C Melting point 1132 °C Isotopes 11 Electro Negativity according to Pauling 1.7 Uranium is hard, malleable and ductile. Uranium metal has a very high density. It is very reactive so cannot be found in the environment in its elemental form. When finely divided, it can react with cold water. In air it is coated by uranium oxide, tarnishing rapidly. It is attacked by steam and acids. It has the ability to form solid solutions and inter metallic compounds with many metals. While Uranium is not hazardous by itself, some of its by products and decay products pose a huge threat upon build up. Uranium is weakly radioactive due to its unstable isotopes; again it has gained importance in the generation of Nuclear energy. It is of great demand in the production of bullets, missiles and bombs. It is also used to fuel power plants by enriching it with the uranium 235 isotope. The isotope uranium 238 is used to estimate the age of rocks and also used for radiometric dating. Other ... • 39. The Rule Of Antoninus Plus ( C. Ce ) During the rule of Antoninus Plus (c. 138 161 CE), Romans began to favor burials over cremations and the demand for sarcophagi grew rapidly (Kleiner 215). Greek mythology was heavily borrowed upon by the Roman and prominent members of the Roman society wanted to be commemorated in the fashion of Greek heroes. The Romans took the general principles of an Egyptian sarcophagus and added Greek mythology to create a unique piece of Roman art and The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is one such example. The Egyptians were the first to use a sarcophagus to bury and commemorate their dead, and judging from the war themed artwork on this Roman sarcophagus, it was most likely built to commemorate the death of a great warrior. The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is a massive piece of Roman funerary art made of a hollowed out block of white marble around 140 170 CE. Weighing an impressive 5511.5 pounds, the sarcophagus is 40 ½ x 91 ½ x 50 ½ inches in dimension and is comprised of a lid and casket (The Museum of Fine Arts). The identity of the sculptor is unknown, and considering the careful attention detail on this impressive work of art, it is possible that crafting the sarcophagus was the work of multiple sculptors. Unlike the Egyptians, who preferred gold, the mineral of choice for the Romans was marble. Unlike most Egyptian sarcophagi, which had a portrait of the dead on the lid, the lid of the ... This however is one of the biggest discrepancies we confront within our economy. Although many businesses argue this is beneficial in order for them to turn a higher profit and be successful, the National Labor Committee thinks otherwise. Outsourcing has become one of the leading factors in product recalls, exploitation of workers, and a major contributor to the unemployment statistics in the US. Although outsourcing is a contributor to mass production and a products supply and demand growth, it has also been known for some of the largest product recalls. In the largest product recall in China in 2008, the baby formula of Sanlu (the largest company in the industry by volume was found to contain melamine originated from contaminated milk supply outsourced to local farmers. Lu, Ng, Tao simplify the term outsourcing by expressing how Outsourcing involves contracting with external suppliers for the delivery of parts and components with pre specified quality levels. (Lu, Ng, Tao, 2012, p. 2). This is a clear indication that product quality is never fully tested when outsourcing. Quality controllers are given a general guideline to aby with, and once met the product may be produced. As a consumer there is nothing more important than a products quality and reputation.
