Tetanus And The Diseases History, Symptoms, Epidemiology,...
With many diseases around the world it is amazing how us as humans survive day to day. Bacteria is
everywhere you look and you have millions of them living inside you, not all of which are harmful. Its
the ones that do harm you that we should be considered with that can lead to death or diseases. A
specific fatal bacterial disease that has caused many people harm is Tetanus. Tetanus consist of a
bacteria called clostridium tetani which invades the nervous system causing muscle spasms and severe
pain sometimes leading to death. Many times the bacteria causes muscle spasms most often in the jaw
causing the muscles to commonly known as Lockjaw . The bacteria gets inside the host cell and
produces harmful toxins. According to the centers for disease control 10 to 20% of people affected by
tetanus result in death (Atkinson,2009). This paper will go more in depth into tetanus and the diseases
history, symptoms, epidemiology, treatment and possible vaccinations. The severity of tetanus has been
around for many years and has since been developed and studied differently. The symptoms and
descriptions of tetanus have been traced back to the 5th century BCE which hasn t been completely
proven that it was discovered then. Tetanus was produced by two researchers named Carle and
Rattone in 1884, by experimenting with animals and injecting them with puss from a person infected
with severe tetanus( Tetanus n.d). The injection of animals would help Carle and Rattone discover the

Essay on John Wilkes Booth
John Wilkes Booth
John Wilkes Booth ( A man with a mission) is known as killing one of our U . S presidents, Abraham
Lincoln. How did he do it when did he do it and where did he do it at? Lincoln helping abolish slavery

President and transport him to Richmond. By capturing Lincoln, they expected to force the federal
government to return Confederate prisoners of war who were confined in Union prisons and then
return them to fight Union forces. After nearly five months of planning, the attempt to capture the
president took place on March 17, 1865. Mr. Lincoln, however, disappointed the would be captors by
changing his plans. Instead of visiting a hospital outside of Washington, President Lincoln attended a
luncheon at the
National Hotel. This was the hotel Booth used as his temporary home while in Washington, DC.
On April 14, 1865 Good Friday, in Ford s Theater on the presidential balcony standing a close nine
feet away using a .5 caliber gun
John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln. The theater was performing Our American
Cousin, . If Lincoln had turned around, he would have known his assailant right away, for he had seen
him perform. On the occasion of Booth performing, Our American Cousin, Lincoln asked to see
Booth. Though Booth being true to the south declined the offer. After
Booth shot the president, he jumped off the fifteen foot balcony while yelling, Sic semper tyrannis!

Name: Renee Deverall Student Number: 215067741 1. Write a short paragraph that defines VO2max,
explains what it measures and describes some of the most important ways that it can be used in health
and sport. VO2max can be defined as the maximum oxygen uptake. This entails the maximum rate at
which oxygen is readily available in the body to be taken up and used during aerobic exercise.
(Fletcher et al.) It is a very important and commonly used indicator of a person or athletes level of
cardiovascular fitness. A high VO2max demonstrates a high level of aerobic fitness, where as a low
VO2max indicates a low rate of aerobic fitness. There are two factors that are important in
determining a persons VO2max, which are the hearts ability to deliver oxygen to the muscles and the
muscles ability to extract the oxygen from the blood and use it (Brown, Miller and Eason). This means
that when a person has a high VO2max their body is able to deliver oxygen through the blood
efficiently to the muscles in order to maintain high levels of aerobic exercise over an extended period
of time. VO2max is a valued measurement of cardiovascular fitness in the Sport industry due to its
ability to indicate cardiovascular fitness, as well as the pulmonary and muscular systems efficiency
throughout the duration of the exercise (Brown, Miller and Eason). There are multiple tests that can
measure VO2max

Japanese American Internment Research Paper
In World War II, when Japan became a threat to America, America took action and soon began the
internment of Japanese Americans. Because they could not possibly put 110,000 in jail, they instead
put most of the Japanese American people in concentration camps in remote areas (Japanese American
Internment, ushistory.org). The author of our textbook, Eric Foner, described the internment of
Japanese Americans in one of his author videos as the greatest violation of civil liberties in American
history other than the existence of slavery. FDR was coerced into issuing Executive Order 9066,
which led to the relocation of 110,000 people from their homes into isolated camps; two thirds of
these people were American citizens. The living conditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One example of a contemporary topic that is in the news in the U.S. that relates to the anti Japanese
attitude is the Muslim community. The Muslim community is looked at in a very similar way to which
the Japanese Americans were looked at during World War II. Even though there is a large majority of
Muslims in America that are American citizens and were born in America, many people fear them and
are uncomfortable in their presence. Although returning to the practice of isolating a whole race in
camps is not acceptable, America is taking action by secluding them from our country. As told by
Adam Liptak from New York Times in an article named Supreme Court Allows Trump Travel Ban to
Take Effect, on December fourth of 2017 the Supreme Court authorized a travel ban to go into effect.
The travel ban restricts the travel of people from eight different nations which included six that are
largely Muslim nations. There are different restrictions for each nation, however most include the
restriction of immigration to America permanently; some of the nations are not even allowed to visit
the country. While it is understood that precautions are being taken to protect our country, we cannot

Compare And Contrast On Dumpster Diving And On Compassion
In On Compassion, an essay written by Barbara Lazear Ascher, compassion is observed through the
eyes of someone who seems to be more fortunate. Dumpster Diving, a personal narrative written by
Lars Eighner, features the adventures and tribulations of someone who does not easily survive in the
hectic world that is the modern day. Through these two essays, the perspectives of the privileged and
unfortunate. Each essay provides detail through personal experiences each author has had through
their lives as members of their classes.
Ascher s essay describes the ways she has seen compassion showed, through voluntary donations,
food, shelter. She openly questions what drives humans to be compassionate to each other. As a

The type of food, edibility, time it was disposed of, packaging and witnesses are all taken into account
when finding a way to survive in another s trash. There were ways, Eighner was aware of, to increase
the amount of good food in the area he scrounged from. I never placed a bogus order to increase the
supply of pizzas and I believe no one else was scavenging in this Dumpster. Despite knowing he could
increase his output of food found, he chose not to make more work for others or waste their resources.
There is compassion found in this act. His essay is informative, expemplifying the difficulty in

Essay on Art History
In the early 1700s, the monarchies failures at finance, national debt, involvement in multiple wars
with little care given to veterans and rising unemployment inflamed the people. When coupled with
the monarchies lifestyles of lavish spending on countless mistresses, flouting morals, excessive parties
at court, and political favors, the popularity of royalty was quickly disintegrating. The irresponsibility
of the aristocracy was no longer ignored, and a movement was beginning. This set the stage for
political change.
Writers such as Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) and John Locke (1632 1704) of England experienced
these changes and began exploring the ideals of republicanism and liberalism through their writing.
Thus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It did not take long for the ideas to spread through Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain,
Portugal, and the American Colonies. The American Revolution began in 1775, and Thomas Paine
wrote Common Sense in January of 1776. Voltaire who had written thousands of letters, books, and
pamphlets finished his Dictionnaire Philosophique in 1764, and the French Revolution began in 1789.
As these social, political, and moral views changed, so too did the style the arts used to communicate
life. It was during this Age of Enlightenment that the Neoclassical era in art history began by
reflecting these changing views using a style much less ornate and gilded than the Baroque and
Rococo styles that had previously dominated artistic endeavors. Strict adherence to simple classical
style with an aim to technical perfection was favored and borrowed heavily from Greek and Roman
pieces discovered earlier in the 1700s. Art was approached with the same logic and reason of the age
and with much less emotion and drama than Baroque or Rococo.
The subject matter was often dark and serious, morally and ethically upright, or heroic. Where the
aristocracy had valued drama, emotion, and grandeur, the people now valued self denial and self
sacrifice over self indulgence. The colors were often dark or solemn and made use of chiaroscuro,

Analysis Of The Book Snowman
I am not my childhood, Snowman says out loud.
Okay... Well, who is he? Snowman (or Jimmy, as I will refer to him) is a perplexing character from
Atwood s first introduction. He is living as the only human man among a colony of Crakers over
whom he appears to be some kind of godly leader. As he wallows in his past we discover him to be
almost tragic; a cruel and manipulative lover, void of any real emotionally intimate relationships, who
now spends all of his time thinking, reflecting and obsessing over his past. For a man who is not his
childhood we sure hear a lot about it! Which tells us that his past is critical in understanding who he is
as a character.

A mother who is predominantly absent, either physically or emotionally often leaves the child with
difficulties understanding and experiencing intimacy. Both of these are models of insecure attachment.
Let s look at Jimmy and his relationship with his mother.
Jimmy remembers his mother as predominantly distant and cold. This is depicted in Jimmy s memory
of his mother s response when asked why she had resigned from her job: because I wanted to stay
home with you, she said, looking over the top of Jimmy s head and puffing on her cigarette. As
readers, we are invited to assume that she suffers from some kind of episodic depression though this
cannot be understood by Jimmy as a child. He recalls her forgetting his birthday, and when reminded,
buying him gifts that showed she either knew or cared very little about her son.
According to attachment theory jimmy s memories of his maternal parenting may be either idealised
or devalued. In snowman s reflections, he makes no excuses for the unstable home his mother creates.
He reflects upon her unaffectionately and bluntly and recants his only warm maternal memories of a
hired nanny who was as affectionate and generous as his mother was cold and unpredictable. When
his mother leaves work to care for him Jimmy is told the nanny must leave because; nobody needed
two mummies did they? oh yes, they did, thinks snowman. Oh yes, they really did.
Of course, Jimmy s mother ultimately leaves him and

The Cask Of Amontillado Violence Essay
Violence exists as a key component in various literature. An example of such literature is Edgar Allen
Poe s The Cask of Amontillado. The short story Poe had written involved an intricate murder scheme,
where the victim would be lured into a corner of a labyrinth of catacombs, chained to the wall, and
then sealed off with a brick wall. While many would not consider this violence by any conventional
means, it is still violence Poe had written into the story to contribute to the overall meaning of the
passage as a whole. Firstly, the eerie setting and macabre mood Poe establishes in The Cask of
Amontillado should be emphasized. As soon as Montresor and Fortunado both step into the
catacombs, the story becomes increasingly grim. For instance, Poe mentions the mass of skeletons
stored within the tunnels, and the nitre accumulating on the walls, hanging like moss. The air becomes
thinner, forcing the torches to become increasingly dim as the pair head deeper ... Show more content

As mentioned previously, Montresor leading Fortunado into the end of the catacomb and walling him
in a small niche is an act of violence in itself, for obvious reasons. Violence is an integral part of The
Cask of Amontillado, as it contributes to the macabre mood in the story. Violence also plays a pivotal
role in the setting of the passage. The motto of Montresor s family is Nemo me impune lacessit,
meaning, No one provokes me with impunity. From this, Montresor s motive for murder becomes
clear: some time in the past, his family was attacked in some form, upsetting him, and driving him into
killing Fortunado to live up to his family s motto. Violence is also portrayed literally in his family coat
of arms, which displays a large human foot crushing a serpent biting down on the heel in the midst of
a blue field. In short, violence provides the foundation for the story s plot, and plays a pivotal role in
establishing the mood in the

Scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy Paradox
Zeno of Elea is most well known for his series of about 40 different paradoxes of plurality designed to
show that believing in many things rather than just one can only lead to illogical conclusions. One of
the topics he emphasizes on is motion, more specifically with these paradoxes he attempts to establish
that motion is impossible. Here he describes three different paradoxes one of which is the Dichotomy
paradox. The purpose of this essay is to scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy paradox and to see if it properly
defends itself against some of the main challenges that have been raised against it, which I believe
Zeno has managed to do. I will reevaluate Zeno s paradox in comparison to see how well it defends
against criticism. Although some arguments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mathematics has greatly advanced since the time of Zeno and Aristotle and this has brought to light
another way to counter Zeno s paradoxes. With the creation of calculus, Zeno s paradox has been more
or less resolved. The calculus solution to this paradox considers the infinite sequence of ½, ¼, 1/8, ...,
1/2^n, which is an infinite geometric sequence. Geometric sequences have a formula of ∑_(n=1)^∞▒
〖(〖 1/2〗^i )〗=1 were the number of half steps are balanced out by the increasingly short amount
of time needed to journey through all those distances. However, this is a convergence of an infinite
series, which means that the sum of this can be approximated very closely to one if you add up enough
terms. This mathematical explanation seemed to suffice for a lot of people, since the sum of all of
those terms can be approximated closely enough to a doable number to justify motion being an actual
thing. However, if we take a closer look at Zeno s paradox, the problem was not that the runner
wouldn t get close to the final point, point B. The problem was that the runner would never actually
manage to reach that final point because no matter how small the distance between the runner and the
final point, the distance can still be divisible by half and therefore there would never be a final point
were the runner would confidentially reach point B. Because the calculus equation can only
approximate very closely to the final point, but never the actual point, this solution is still not the

Conflict Resolution And Child Custody
Conflict Resolution Child Custody
As a future marital and family therapist and even as a trainee, it is important to understand the
systemic thinking behind the practice. For those therapists, like myself, that want to become experts in
more an area, it is also important to delve into the theory and practice of that area. For example, child
custody is a big piece to conflict resolution when it comes to thinking systemically in the family. The
current divorce rate is around 50 percent and ever rising, which can be troubling yet promising when it
comes to the mediation field.
For the judicial system, this causes case overload, tired workers, and a lot of fees for the citizens going
to the family courts. One of the biggest things that could potentially stop a family from being happy
with their results is if the courts assign them custody agreements without thinking about each
individual factor. Each family is different and there is no cookie cutter answer when it comes to child
custody. If the family is assigned a family mediator, not only will it save long term costs, it can help
ensure each party feels heard and they are voluntarily agreeing to the terms.
Reasoning for Choosing Topic
When assigned this paper, I had no idea what to write about, since the conflict resolution is so broad.
But I sat down and thought about why I decided to take this class and why I wanted to get my
mediation certificate. As I said in class, I have seen really poor mediation, I have seen

Metaphors In Pilgrim s Progress
The Metaphoricality of Pilgrim s Progress Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan is the third most sold
book in the English language. It has been read and loved dearly by people throughout the world, due
to the fact that it has been printed in over 200 languages and is considered the first novel in English. A
lot attributes to this popularity. The storyline, characters, and plot are all adventurous and easy to get
sucked into, leading to readers being unable to put the book down. However, the greatest strength this
book has is its use of metaphors and imagery. These two traits allow great storytelling and teach quite
a lot to readers everywhere. Pilgrim s Progress use of metaphors hints at real life through Christian s

The people besides Christian and a handful of others he meets such as Faithful and Hopeful are all

the object that made Christian yearn for a better life and started him on his journey. It represents sin.
The Burden holds such a great weight on Christian that he seems to be unable to be freed of it. Yet, the

The Literary Transcendence Of John Keats Works Far...
The literary transcendence of John Keats works far surpasses the malevolent criticism of the Tory
Journals. The beauty of Keats poems and letters, have held him in regard as the quintessential
Romantic poet, whose short life was ultimately consumed by his struggle for acceptance in the
dominant literary community. In the opening lines of Endymion, Keats writes A thing of beauty is a
joy forever ; an assertion that anything beautiful will give unending pleasure a belief that is carried
throughout not only in Endymion but also Ode on a Grecian Urn. It is commonplace for Keats poems
to explore the different forms of beauty most typically through nature, romance and the ideal. Keats
work exemplifies the paradoxical tensions between the passage of time, the permanence of beauty and
the disappointment of reality. Though beauty is arguably subjective thus rooted in opinion and
perception, beauty for Keats is a transcendent aesthetic found in every aspect of the human existence
and beyond.
It would be prudent to understate the impact of Keats tragic family life on his writings. Keats was
haunted by his anticipation of his future death after prematurely losing his father, brother and, perhaps
most traumatically, witnessing the death of his mother to tuberculosis. These events culminated and
into what Hamilton s 1969 psychoanalytic study concluded as his attempt to complete the mourning
process. Furthermore, Hamilton suggested that Keats externalised his dreams and

Ceremony Of Loss Essay
When the first ceremony took place, a couple was given a male newchild named Caleb as a
replacement child. To begin with, according to The Giver, the first Caleb, who was 4 years old,
wandered away unnoticed, and had fallen into a river, and had died. As a result, the Ceremony of Loss
occurred, which is murmuring the name throughout the whole day, less often, quieter, so that the child
is forgotten. To add on, this incident shows that the community tried to eliminate any dangerous
situations because perhaps the death of the first Caleb could cause problems by frightening the rest of
the community and in an attempt to to prevent this, they make sure the child who died, in this case, is

A Brief Note On Depression And The Depression
Robyn Lawhorn
July 11, 2015
Psychology 100
Mrs. Fischer
Hours Worked: 22 Major depression, also known as unipolar depression, is one of the most common
mental illnesses. Over nine million adults each year suffer from depression. Many people don t
understand what depression really is, including myself until I did a lot of research over this subject.
Major depression is more than a temporary state of being sad. It is a persistent state that can
significantly impair an individual s thoughts, behavior, daily activities, and physical health. According
to The Stanford School of Medicine, they said that major depressive disorder impacts all racial, ethnic,
and socioeconomic groups and can occur at any age. (Depression Research Clinic) Depression is a
common, but serious illness that can occur in people of all ages; teenagers, adults, and older adults.
Depression is a condition that reportedly affects one in every ten Americans at some point in their
lives. The incidence of depression is actually higher in some states than others. Certain ethnicities also
report higher depression rates than others. According to Healthline, the number of patients diagnosed
with depression increases by approximately 20% each year. (Healthline) In the United States,
Oklahoma, Arizona, Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have the highest
reported rates of depression. These states also show high rates of other negative health outcomes such
as obesity, heart disease,

How To Avoid Overcrowding In Prisons
6,600 Federal Inmates to be Released this Weekend This article explained how the biggest federal
inmate release on record will take place this weekend. Obama is releasing nearly 6,000 criminals to
avoid overcrowding in prisons and jails. Many of these criminals were convicted for drug offenses.
The commission stated, The sentencing commission decided a year ago to lower maximum sentences
for nonviolent drug offenders and to make the change retroactive, with the inmate releases effective
November 1, 2015. Sentences were reduced an average of 18%. This has become very controversial
for American citizens. Many are questioning their own safety and where the released offenders are
going to live. The article used Samuel Hamilton, who spent

Ok Computer Thom Yorke Analysis
Ok Computer, an album that is considered the last great rock album of the 20th century, has never
stopped expressing its clear message. Most critics have all come to the same conclusion when
discussing the meaning and message of this album. The album touches on the personal experiences of
the writer and the problems of society at the time. Thom Yorke, songwriter, expresses his dislike for
all the fast paced controlled city life with the songs Fitter Happier, Let Down, and Electioneering.
Thom Yorke also reveals his personal issues and experiences with the songs Paranoid Android and
Karma Police. This album shows how Yorke handles his personal life with the dislike for big city life
with the songs Fitter Happier, Let Down, Electioneering, Paranoid Android and Karma Police. The
first song supporting Yorke s disgust towards big society is Fitter Happier. The song is a list made up

Yorke describes all of the hectic traffic as starting and then stopping, taking off and landing. All of the
disappointed people who hold the emptiest of feelings can be seen in this picture. Thom Yorke is being
let down by this crazy society he lives in. The big city life does not impress him and never will. The
song Electioneering gives a look at how little power people have and how everything is controlled in
almost every aspect of the big city life. Yorke gives warning to say the right things when
electioneering as if it matters what anyone says. The government is just business and Yorke says that
he can rely on your vote which does not matter with all of the voodoo economics that decides the
outcome. The government will not stop to get what they want and they will blatantly lie for the vote
they desperately need. Yorke clearly explains that the government will do anything to sway the public
opinion in their

Honors Class Reflection
Upon looking back at my honors experience at Elgin Community College, I vividly remember the first
honors class that I attended, American Government, or POS 150. I remember being extremely nervous
to attend this class. At this point in my ECC career, I still doubted myself when it came to my
academics and what I was capable of. I kept thinking that I was going to fail my honors class and ruin
my honors experience. What I soon came to realize was that this class was going to be something
completely different than the traditional classes that I had taken before. The setting of this class was
mostly discussion, lecture, and reflection. We had our textbook, Democracy for the Few, and each
week we were instructed to read a chapter and then come to class ready to discuss and share our ideas.
I loved this attribute of the class because we could always input different ideas and connect with other
students in the class since there were ten of us in the classroom. Not only did I love how the class was
structured and run, but also the information and material that I learned along the way. Since this class
was American Government, I went into it thinking that I would know some of the basics that we learn
throughout high school, but I was mistaken. Everything that I learned was completely new to me.
Sadly, what I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This class, allowed my eyes to be opened to the true United States that we live in and all of its
different policies. I felt like I was not given the full truth all throughout elementary, middle, and high
school, but rather just the simplified version. In a way, I wish that I was taught things differently in
high school, so that I would be more prepared for my American government class and not be so
perplexed by every new topic. In high school they should have made us analyze and think more
deeply into all of the different policies in the United

My Reflection On My Writing Course
July 31,2017, Entry 18: Course Reflection
Reflect: When I started this course, I did not think that I was going to be able to complete it. Writing
papers is not a strong suit for myself. But this course was about teaching someone to use what inside
themselves to create works of art. Drawing from emotions and imagination and translating that into a
written canvas. Most people would not have a problem with knowing one s self. For me, it is a
different situation, but I overcame this. My skills for writing has greatly improved. I am still a person
who skips steps, outlines for example and goes right to writing. This is something I cannot change
although my Instructors would prefer. I think my impatience is a cause for that. This class has

My skills to create had improved at this time. This class has shown me that limited knowledge of a
subject cause great difficulties when writing. The problem is increases more when more information
cannot be found. I know that I could not ever write fiction. I feel I could have done a lot better if there
were topic choices more geared toward one s field of study. Writing on a subject that one has
knowledge of or already is interested in is more enjoyable. My argument essay was by far the easiest
to write because of this. There have been different types of improvements in this class. My typing
skills have improved, along with spelling. These are two thing that have improved with taking this
class. As for my writing skills, there have been some major leaps and bounds with that. As I don t plan
to write any books anytime, I feel that my skills are enough to handle the need of my job. I will
continue my writing of reports in my present job.
Evaluate: Going into this class was a feeling of ready to take this challenge. The first couple of weeks
were ok then came the writing assignment. What goals I had for my self started to come apparent. My
spelling skills have gotten a great boost; spelling has always been a challenged for me. I have now a
better understanding of grammar and the English language. This will still be a subject for

Descriptive Essay About A Runaway Bird
The Runaway Bird
I stood there looking in through the bars on the cage, watching the birds fly around their cage. I rested
my hands on one of the metal bars on the cage as I watched my favorite bird, Sky , she was the bird I
got for my 12th birthday that year. Sky was a bird with blue feathers and white areas on its stomach
that looked like clouds. I loved to watch the birds play with each other. I was aloud to hold them but I
was not aloud to take them out of the cage without an adult around And my mom was taking a nap.
My mom has black curly hair and brown eyes. I stood there watching and listening to the birds tweet,
chirp, and play. I really wanted to hold one Sky to be exact. I can hold Sky for a few minutes and no
one will know, I thought to myself, I just have to be quiet and I can t tell anyone. So I quickly scanned
the room to make sure no one was there. As soon as I knew no one was there I walked up to the cage. I
put my hand on the cage lock and I looked up to find Sky so I could get her. I slowly unlocked the
cage and I quickly opened the door. As soon as I opened the door a bird flew out. I shut the door as
fast as I could and turned around panicking looking for the bird. I searched every where and once I
couldn t find it I panicked even more but just when I was about to get up I heard a sound. CHIRP
CHIRP. It was the bird sitting on top of the big, tall bookcase.
I looked up at it panicking because the bookcase was too tall for me to reach the bird. I

The Great Hammerhead Shark Essay
Strategy is not easily defined and furthermore the term is not exclusively related to just the business
world. We can confidently say strategy is key to survival, not only in business but also in the animal
kingdom. All animals under go a process of constant change in their physical appearance and in their
behaviour. These changes take place over millions of years and the species that survive, do so because
throughout their evolution they have perfected certain strategies that have enabled them to develop
more successfully in the environment they inhabit. One such case of this successful development is
the great hammerhead shark.

(Society, 2014)
Great hammerheads primarily live in warm temperate and tropical coastal waters all around the globe,
far offshore and near shorelines in depths between 1 300 meters and have also been observed entering
estuarine water between latitudes 40 degrees N and 37 degrees S, down to a depth of 80 metres. It
positions itself as a top predator in its environment. It has no major predators as it is widely feared in
its habitat. Larger sharks will prey on juvenile and subadult great hammerheads. (Wikipedia, 2014)
The great hammerheads migrate seasonally and are often seen in mass summer migrations moving
poleward seeking cooler water. They move back towards the equator over the winter months. During
the day they are often found near the shore in schools of up to one hundred. At night they hunt further
offshore, adults occur alone, in pairs or in small schools while young hammerheads occur in larger
schools. Great hammerheads are most common at seamounts, especially near the Galapagos, Malpelo,
Cocos and Revillagigedo Islands and within the Gulf of California.
Great hammerhead sharks appear to adapt well to their environments. One of their capabilities is that
they are opportunistic predators and are willing to eat anything they can get their hands on to help
them survive. Consequently, one concern would be the changes in temperature in the water. The
hammerhead does not seem to adapt well to the cooler waters.
Additionally, the hammerheads

Spoken English Language Analysis
In recent years, slang and text speak have steadily infiltrated professional compositions; slyly
maneuvering unstately unconventionalities into dignified documents that consequentially cause

miscommunication within the workplace; both of which lead to unproductivity and less millennials to

Sidney Bechet s Major Accomplishments
Sidney Bechet was one of many fantastic up and coming jazz musicians in the Roaring Twenties. He
started on the clarinet, but eventually became one of the first performers to adopt the soprano
saxophone as a main instrument, as well as one of the first to improvise with the swing style of jazz.
In addition, he was one of the first artists to record using a multitrack which was a way of recording
where you would play back the track from one instrument while you recorded with another instrument
and continued this process until you had all of the instruments you wanted. These strides helped
Bechet stand out from other musicians as he progressed through his career. Bechet grew up in a
musical household and toured with popular bands from a young age. His father and four brothers all
played instruments, so his passion for music came as no shock. Although his ability to easily pick up

Bechet s compositions includes Les Oignons, Promenade aux Champ Elysées, Petite Fleur, Si Tous

was also known for his improvisation, solos like those of Louis Armstrong, and especially for
conveying intense emotion through his music. Duke Ellington, a fellow jazz musician, once described
Bechet as The very epitome of jazz, everything he played in his entire life was completely original. I
honestly think he was the most unique man ever to be in this music. Throughout his career he played
in the Marion Cook s Syncopated Orchestra, Louis Mitchell s Jazz King, Duke Ellington s
Washingtonians, and the Noble Sissle Orchestra. He also went on to teach Bob Wilbur who also
became a famous clarinetist and saxophonist. Bechet made the most of his career and continued to

Rabbit Run Quotes
John Updike s Rabbit Run tells the story of Harry Rabbit Angstrom, a man in his mid twenties trying
to reclaim the glory of his high school basketball career. Rabbit married Janice Springer shortly after
graduating, and they had a son, Nelson, soon after. Though Rabbit has a family and a steady, yet
monotonous job as a Magi Peel kitchen peeler demonstrator at the local department store, he feels lost.
Because he wants so desperately to return to the popularity and success he experienced in high school,
Rabbit is unable to grow in character and maturity past his eighteen year old self. This leaves Rabbit
in a place of self doubt and resentment towards himself and his current life. Because Rabbit is
insecure, he asserts a dominance over women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The moment Rabbit meets Lucy, he objectifies her. When Rabbit rings the doorbell at Eccles home, A
crisp little number with speckled green eyes opens the door (122). His first thought is commenting on
her appearance in a rather patronizing way. Rabbit then flirts with Lucy, attempting to be coy, but he
just agitates her. Inside the house, Rabbit reflects on their brief interaction, At once, absurdly, he feels
in control of her, feels like she likes him (122). Rabbit feels as if he was successful in wooing the
married woman, and this makes him even more confident. This unsubstantiated success gives Rabbit
the feeling of power and dominance he has been seeking. While he talks to Lucy, he again mentally
comments on her figure. He thinks, Her bare legs, crosses, show the blue dabs of varicose veins. Her
face, when she sits, is not as young as at the door. Double chin when she relaxes, head tucked back.
Smug little cookie. Firm little knockers (123). Rabbit s condescending tone further exemplifies the
position of power he feels he has gained. Rabbit s euphoria with his feeling of superiority causes him
to react. Updike explains, ... in a mindless follow through, an overflow of coordination, she having on
the drop of his answer turned with prim dismissal away from him again, slaps! her sassy ass. Not hard:
a cupping hit, rebuke and fond pat both, well placed on the pocket (125). Rabbit abuses his perceived
dominance, shocking Lucy into silence. Rabbit s brief discourse with Lucy Eccles divulges some of
the most prominent aspects of his personality. His thoughts, impulses, and actions demonstrate to the
reader how quickly Rabbit takes advantage of power, whether or not it truly exists, to fulfill his

Messages Of Anti-Bolshevism During The Spanish Civil War
TITLE: The piece is titled Bolshevism Unmasked . It is a pamphlet and accompanying poster from a
major Anti Bolshevist exhibition that toured many major cities.
DATE: The exhibition occurred in 1937. 1937 was of particular significance for the NSDAP s Anti
Bolshevist movement as it was the height of the Spanish Civil War. Thus, messages of Anti
Bolshevism during the Spanish Civil War had widespread appeal because they were very topical.
Global anxieties surrounding the Spanish Civil War were exploited as a focal point of Nazi Anti
Bolshevist propaganda throughout the mid 1930s. This is clearly demonstrated throughout the
pamphlet, as exemplified in, ...Jewish Bolshevism calls to sub humanity in Spain to take up the
weapons of destruction against a peaceful people.
AUTHOR: The exhibit was created by the Anti Komintern, an agency established in 1933 by the
Propaganda Ministry. Prior to WWII, the Anit Komintern produced arguably the most relentless strain
of Nazi propaganda. It created a series of Anti Bolshevist campaigns in multiple mediums, including

The Church s Ministry On Teaching And Learning
The church s ministry on teaching and learning is simultaneously a simple and complex ministry. It is
a ministry that is potentially misunderstood more often than it is understood in the life of a
congregation. As the congregation struggles to combine secular life with spiritual practice, the vision
for the teaching and learning ministry of the church can fall out of focus for those who feel called to
this ministry s vocations. To begin, I will define the teaching and learning ministry of the church as I
understand it followed by an elaboration of its definition. Lastly, I will discuss a few implications of
this ministry as it applies to a congregation.
The church s ministry of teaching and learning is the collective discernment of the community, as
loving people of God, which integrates and challenges the understanding of their presence as
individuals in an ever deepening connection with God and their community of neighbors through
various reflective methods and practices, which engage scripture, tradition, experience, and reason.
This definition may appear simple if taken at its face value. However, upon further inspection its
elements contain subtle meanings even multiple layers of meaning. Thus, further explanation of these
elements is required and displayed herein.
The main element of this definition is community. Humanity, generally speaking, is social in nature
which leads individuals to gather into groups of various sizes. These groups or communities can be

Hermann s Addiction To Gambling
Hermann s addiction to gambling is portrayed from the beginning of the story; He s never held a card

watching us play (739).

While he does not actually gamble for fear of losing all that he has, he is very
much addicted. However, his common sense overrides his addiction, so he does not actually
participate. This addiction possibly stems from the fact that he does not have much money, and he
wants to have more. Hermann says himself, I am not in the position to sacrifice the essentials of life in
the hope of acquiring the luxuries (739).

In other words, the fact that he does not have much is what

Bacteria is everywhere you look and you have millions of them living inside you, not all of which are harmful. Its the ones that do harm you that we should be considered with that can lead to death or diseases. A specific fatal bacterial disease that has caused many people harm is Tetanus. Tetanus consist of a bacteria called clostridium tetani which invades the nervous system causing muscle spasms and severe pain sometimes leading to death. Many times the bacteria causes muscle spasms most often in the jaw causing the muscles to commonly known as Lockjaw . The bacteria gets inside the host cell and produces harmful toxins. According to the centers for disease control 10 to 20% of people affected by tetanus result in death (Atkinson,2009). This paper will go more in depth into tetanus and the diseases history, symptoms, epidemiology, treatment and possible vaccinations. The severity of tetanus has been around for many years and has since been developed and studied differently. The symptoms and descriptions of tetanus have been traced back to the 5th century BCE which hasn t been completely proven that it was discovered then. Tetanus was produced by two researchers named Carle and Rattone in 1884, by experimenting with animals and injecting them with puss from a person infected with severe tetanus( Tetanus n.d). The injection of animals would help Carle and Rattone discover the transfer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the occasion of Booth performing, Our American Cousin, Lincoln asked to see Booth. Though Booth being true to the south declined the offer. • 4. Principles Of Exercise And Sport Science HSE101 Principles of Exercise Sport Science Practical Assignment Submaximal Exercise Testing¬ Name: Renee Deverall Student Number: 215067741 1. Write a short paragraph that defines VO2max, explains what it measures and describes some of the most important ways that it can be used in health and sport. VO2max can be defined as the maximum oxygen uptake. This entails the maximum rate at which oxygen is readily available in the body to be taken up and used during aerobic exercise. (Fletcher et al.) It is a very important and commonly used indicator of a person or athletes level of cardiovascular fitness. A high VO2max demonstrates a high level of aerobic fitness, where as a low VO2max indicates a low rate of aerobic fitness. There are two factors that are important in determining a persons VO2max, which are the hearts ability to deliver oxygen to the muscles and the muscles ability to extract the oxygen from the blood and use it (Brown, Miller and Eason). This means that when a person has a high VO2max their body is able to deliver oxygen through the blood efficiently to the muscles in order to maintain high levels of aerobic exercise over an extended period of time. VO2max is a valued measurement of cardiovascular fitness in the Sport industry due to its ability to indicate cardiovascular fitness, as well as the pulmonary and muscular systems efficiency throughout the duration of the exercise (Brown, Miller and Eason). • 5. Japanese American Internment Research Paper In World War II, when Japan became a threat to America, America took action and soon began the internment of Japanese Americans. Because they could not possibly put 110,000 in jail, they instead put most of the Japanese American people in concentration camps in remote areas (Japanese American Internment, ushistory.org). The author of our textbook, Eric Foner, described the internment of Japanese Americans in one of his author videos as the greatest violation of civil liberties in American history other than the existence of slavery. FDR was coerced into issuing Executive Order 9066, which led to the relocation of 110,000 people from their homes into isolated camps; two thirds of these people were American citizens. The living conditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of a contemporary topic that is in the news in the U.S. that relates to the anti Japanese attitude is the Muslim community. The Muslim community is looked at in a very similar way to which the Japanese Americans were looked at during World War II. Even though there is a large majority of Muslims in America that are American citizens and were born in America, many people fear them and are uncomfortable in their presence. Although returning to the practice of isolating a whole race in camps is not acceptable, America is taking action by secluding them from our country. As told by Adam Liptak from New York Times in an article named Supreme Court Allows Trump Travel Ban to Take Effect, on December fourth of 2017 the Supreme Court authorized a travel ban to go into effect. The travel ban restricts the travel of people from eight different nations which included six that are largely Muslim nations. There are different restrictions for each nation, however most include the restriction of immigration to America permanently; some of the nations are not even allowed to visit the country. While it is understood that precautions are being taken to protect our country, we cannot accuse a person of partaking in harmful events and beliefs just because of their ... Compare And Contrast On Dumpster Diving And On Compassion In On Compassion, an essay written by Barbara Lazear Ascher, compassion is observed through the eyes of someone who seems to be more fortunate. Through these two essays, the perspectives of the privileged and unfortunate. The type of food, edibility, time it was disposed of, packaging and witnesses are all taken into account when finding a way to survive in another s trash. There were ways, Eighner was aware of, to increase the amount of good food in the area he scrounged from. I never placed a bogus order to increase the supply of pizzas and I believe no one else was scavenging in this Dumpster. • 7. Essay on Art History In the early 1700s, the monarchies failures at finance, national debt, involvement in multiple wars with little care given to veterans and rising unemployment inflamed the people. When coupled with the monarchies lifestyles of lavish spending on countless mistresses, flouting morals, excessive parties at court, and political favors, the popularity of royalty was quickly disintegrating. The irresponsibility of the aristocracy was no longer ignored, and a movement was beginning. This set the stage for political change. Writers such as Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) and John Locke (1632 1704) of England experienced these changes and began exploring the ideals of republicanism and liberalism through their writing. Thus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It did not take long for the ideas to spread through Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the American Colonies. The American Revolution began in 1775, and Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense in January of 1776. Voltaire who had written thousands of letters, books, and pamphlets finished his Dictionnaire Philosophique in 1764, and the French Revolution began in 1789. As these social, political, and moral views changed, so too did the style the arts used to communicate life. It was during this Age of Enlightenment that the Neoclassical era in art history began by reflecting these changing views using a style much less ornate and gilded than the Baroque and Rococo styles that had previously dominated artistic endeavors. Strict adherence to simple classical style with an aim to technical perfection was favored and borrowed heavily from Greek and Roman pieces discovered earlier in the 1700s. Art was approached with the same logic and reason of the age and with much less emotion and drama than Baroque or Rococo. The subject matter was often dark and serious, morally and ethically upright, or heroic. Where the aristocracy had valued drama, emotion, and grandeur, the people now valued self denial and self sacrifice over self indulgence. Snowman (or Jimmy, as I will refer to him) is a perplexing character from Atwood s first introduction. He is living as the only human man among a colony of Crakers over whom he appears to be some kind of godly leader. As he wallows in his past we discover him to be almost tragic; a cruel and manipulative lover, void of any real emotionally intimate relationships, who now spends all of his time thinking, reflecting and obsessing over his past. A mother who is predominantly absent, either physically or emotionally often leaves the child with difficulties understanding and experiencing intimacy. Both of these are models of insecure attachment. Let s look at Jimmy and his relationship with his mother. Jimmy remembers his mother as predominantly distant and cold. This is depicted in Jimmy s memory of his mother s response when asked why she had resigned from her job: because I wanted to stay home with you, she said, looking over the top of Jimmy s head and puffing on her cigarette. As readers, we are invited to assume that she suffers from some kind of episodic depression though this cannot be understood by Jimmy as a child. He recalls her forgetting his birthday, and when reminded, buying him gifts that showed she either knew or cared very little about her son. According to attachment theory jimmy s memories of his maternal parenting may be either idealised or devalued. In snowman s reflections, he makes no excuses for the unstable home his mother creates. He reflects upon her unaffectionately and bluntly and recants his only warm maternal memories of a hired nanny who was as affectionate and generous as his mother was cold and unpredictable. • 9. The Cask Of Amontillado Violence Essay Violence exists as a key component in various literature. An example of such literature is Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado. The short story Poe had written involved an intricate murder scheme, where the victim would be lured into a corner of a labyrinth of catacombs, chained to the wall, and then sealed off with a brick wall. While many would not consider this violence by any conventional means, it is still violence Poe had written into the story to contribute to the overall meaning of the passage as a whole. Firstly, the eerie setting and macabre mood Poe establishes in The Cask of Amontillado should be emphasized. As soon as Montresor and Fortunado both step into the catacombs, the story becomes increasingly grim. For instance, Poe mentions the mass of skeletons stored within the tunnels, and the nitre accumulating on the walls, hanging like moss. The air becomes thinner, forcing the torches to become increasingly dim as the pair head deeper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned previously, Montresor leading Fortunado into the end of the catacomb and walling him in a small niche is an act of violence in itself, for obvious reasons. Violence is an integral part of The Cask of Amontillado, as it contributes to the macabre mood in the story. Violence also plays a pivotal role in the setting of the passage. The motto of Montresor s family is Nemo me impune lacessit, meaning, No one provokes me with impunity. From this, Montresor s motive for murder becomes clear: some time in the past, his family was attacked in some form, upsetting him, and driving him into killing Fortunado to live up to his family s motto. Violence is also portrayed literally in his family coat of arms, which displays a large human foot crushing a serpent biting down on the heel in the midst of a blue field. • 10. Scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy Paradox Zeno of Elea is most well known for his series of about 40 different paradoxes of plurality designed to show that believing in many things rather than just one can only lead to illogical conclusions. One of the topics he emphasizes on is motion, more specifically with these paradoxes he attempts to establish that motion is impossible. Here he describes three different paradoxes one of which is the Dichotomy paradox. The purpose of this essay is to scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy paradox and to see if it properly defends itself against some of the main challenges that have been raised against it, which I believe Zeno has managed to do. I will reevaluate Zeno s paradox in comparison to see how well it defends against criticism. Although some arguments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mathematics has greatly advanced since the time of Zeno and Aristotle and this has brought to light another way to counter Zeno s paradoxes. With the creation of calculus, Zeno s paradox has been more or less resolved. The calculus solution to this paradox considers the infinite sequence of ½, ¼, 1/8, ..., 1/2^n, which is an infinite geometric sequence. Geometric sequences have a formula of ∑_(n=1)^∞▒ 〖(〖 1/2〗^i )〗=1 were the number of half steps are balanced out by the increasingly short amount of time needed to journey through all those distances. However, this is a convergence of an infinite series, which means that the sum of this can be approximated very closely to one if you add up enough terms. This mathematical explanation seemed to suffice for a lot of people, since the sum of all of those terms can be approximated closely enough to a doable number to justify motion being an actual thing. However, if we take a closer look at Zeno s paradox, the problem was not that the runner wouldn t get close to the final point, point B. The problem was that the runner would never actually manage to reach that final point because no matter how small the distance between the runner and the final point, the distance can still be divisible by half and therefore there would never be a final point were the runner would confidentially reach point B. Because the calculus equation can only approximate very closely to the final point, but never the actual point, this solution is still not the correct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Conflict Resolution And Child Custody Conflict Resolution Child Custody As a future marital and family therapist and even as a trainee, it is important to understand the systemic thinking behind the practice. For those therapists, like myself, that want to become experts in more an area, it is also important to delve into the theory and practice of that area. For example, child custody is a big piece to conflict resolution when it comes to thinking systemically in the family. The current divorce rate is around 50 percent and ever rising, which can be troubling yet promising when it comes to the mediation field. For the judicial system, this causes case overload, tired workers, and a lot of fees for the citizens going to the family courts. One of the biggest things that could potentially stop a family from being happy with their results is if the courts assign them custody agreements without thinking about each individual factor. Each family is different and there is no cookie cutter answer when it comes to child custody. If the family is assigned a family mediator, not only will it save long term costs, it can help ensure each party feels heard and they are voluntarily agreeing to the terms. Reasoning for Choosing Topic When assigned this paper, I had no idea what to write about, since the conflict resolution is so broad. But I sat down and thought about why I decided to take this class and why I wanted to get my mediation certificate. As I said in class, I have seen really poor mediation, I have seen ... It has been read and loved dearly by people throughout the world, due to the fact that it has been printed in over 200 languages and is considered the first novel in English. A lot attributes to this popularity. The storyline, characters, and plot are all adventurous and easy to get sucked into, leading to readers being unable to put the book down. This would have led to his death had Evangelist not turned him around. He also manages to overcome temptation by staying on the path as well as remembering scripture and trusting in the Lord. Throughout the temptations, Christian overcomes with the help of God. Christian s burden and the things surrounding it represent much. It is the object that made Christian yearn for a better life and started him on his journey. It represents sin. The Burden holds such a great weight on Christian that he seems to be unable to be freed of it. Yet, the path to the Celestial City saves him from it. • 16. The Literary Transcendence Of John Keats Works Far... The literary transcendence of John Keats works far surpasses the malevolent criticism of the Tory Journals. The beauty of Keats poems and letters, have held him in regard as the quintessential Romantic poet, whose short life was ultimately consumed by his struggle for acceptance in the dominant literary community. In the opening lines of Endymion, Keats writes A thing of beauty is a joy forever ; an assertion that anything beautiful will give unending pleasure a belief that is carried throughout not only in Endymion but also Ode on a Grecian Urn. It is commonplace for Keats poems to explore the different forms of beauty most typically through nature, romance and the ideal. Keats work exemplifies the paradoxical tensions between the passage of time, the permanence of beauty and the disappointment of reality. Though beauty is arguably subjective thus rooted in opinion and perception, beauty for Keats is a transcendent aesthetic found in every aspect of the human existence and beyond. It would be prudent to understate the impact of Keats tragic family life on his writings. Keats was haunted by his anticipation of his future death after prematurely losing his father, brother and, perhaps most traumatically, witnessing the death of his mother to tuberculosis. These events culminated and into what Hamilton s 1969 psychoanalytic study concluded as his attempt to complete the mourning process. Furthermore, Hamilton suggested that Keats externalised his dreams and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result, the Ceremony of Loss occurred, which is murmuring the name throughout the whole day, less often, quieter, so that the child is forgotten. To add on, this incident shows that the community tried to eliminate any dangerous situations because perhaps the death of the first Caleb could cause problems by frightening the rest of the community and in an attempt to to prevent this, they make sure the child who died, in this case, is forgotten. They marked the new Caleb s replacement by performing another ceremony known as the Murmur of Replacement.
