Psychoanalytic perspective of Kurtz in Heart of Darkness
The novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad reveals the uncanny similarities between the
Europeans and the natives as well as demonstrates why imperialism is not civilizing the natives.
Although Conrad often dehumanizes the natives, he still demonstrates that Europeans still are
savage in some ways. Kurtz is an example of the savagery still remnant in European culture buried
deep within us. Kurtz s journey in the Congo can be seen as his pure primal expression of his id
without restraint from his ego and superego.
Kurtz s transformation from a pillar of European ideals and civility to a greedy ... Show more
His descent was mainly caused by the dehumanizing aspect of the Congo which the doctor implies
by taking initial measurements . His separation from civilization and the station allow for him to
forgo the superego and ego because they are not necessary in the Congo where only his primal

My Reflection Of A Writing Course By Susan Mills
In the fall of 2016 I was enrolled in Susan Mills Comp. II course. During my time in this course
we were tasked with several major assignments that were planned so we meet the student learning
outcomes for the writing program. Some of these writing outcomes are 1.) Students use the writing
process to compose with purpose, creating multimodal texts for various audiences, and 2.) Students
productively interact with their peers, often in small groups, in the reiterative processes of
feedback, revision, and editing. Throughout my time in this course I not only had a satisfying
learning experience but enjoyed my time in Professor Mills course as well.

The rice experiment videos essentially is an experiment where someone tested how the use of
words affected how fast grains of rice go bad. The test calls for grains of rice in two separate jars.
One jar is told negative things while the other is told positive things. The experiment proved that
negative words have a negative effect on objects while positive words does the opposite. When
professor Mills began the video I thought the experiment would not prove anything about
communication. However, I was wrong. I was astonished that the experiment actually proved what
it sought to show. I wanted to find a logical explanation that would show what could have caused
the outcome, but was unable too. This experiment showed me just how much language and
communication can affect the outside world. It actually blows my mind to think that words cannot
only hurt my feelings but my wellbeing as well. This experiment essentially proves that the saying
sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me is
