Dbq Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange was the widespread transfer of plants, animals, culture, human populations,
technology, and ideas between the Americas and the Old World in the 15th and 16th centuries, related
to European colonization and trade after Christopher Columbus s 1492 voyage. The Columbian
exchange affected some lives tremendously and others lives in relatively less significantly. The people
who were most strongly affected were the natives of the Americas and those of Africa. The Native
Americans were affected tremendously, mostly in negative ways. It is possible to say that they were
helped by the Columbian Exchange because the exchange brought new species of animals to the New
World. This improved the lifestyles of many native groups. However, the natives of the Americas were
devastated by the germs that came to the New World as part of the exchange. Infectious diseases like
smallpox are believed to have killed up to half of the of the native population since that population
had no resistance to those diseases. Europeans lives were generally enriched by the exchange.
Europeans got new foods like tomatoes and potatoes. They got corn and tobacco and chocolate. All of
these new foods diversified their diets and made them more interesting. Other Europeans enriched
themselves monetarily. Many Europeans came to the New World and ... Show more content on

Essay On Veteran Application
For many years the VA has been the only source of veteran support in the US. The VA s main purpose
is to provide a trust worthy source of information and resources for all military personnel. The VA is
not driven by its dollar signs but by seeing that everyone involved with the military has a place that
they can turn to for anything they need. With that in mind, I know that the Department of Veteran s
Affairs is the place for me.
After searching through thousands of job announcements I was fortunate enough to come across the
Civilian Payroll Technician position on the VA s career webpage. Upon reading the position
description I am convinced that my experience and prior knowledge make me a perfect candidate for
this position.
During my time as an accounting intern and assistant, as well as my time as a receptionist, I performed
many clerical duties such as handling all telephone calls, and preparing and editing documents for my
supervisors. As a receptionist, I was also in charge of setting up meetings and ordering different office
supplies and tools. During my time as an intern, I was in charge of entering and correcting certain
invoices, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

experience that would allow me to not only continue developing and strengthening my overall skills,

Problem 1 In what specific ways (if any) does a college education increase a worker s productivity?
Take some special care with this problem. A college education can increase a workers productivity in
various ways. Generally a college graduate enters into the labour market with more knowledge and
higher skills than a non college graduate. These higher skills can be improved thinking, writing,
communication and problem solving; which increase productivity. The thinking processes increases
the application of their knowledge which increases their productivity and efficiency. Also a college

Polyphonic Hmi Marketing Strategy Essay
Recommendation: Target the record labels for promotion of HSS reports. Start with the initial
enthusiasts like Ken Bunt of Hollywood Records and use their testimonials to win other record labels.
Make use of the business connections of the advisory board at Polyphonic to get better reach to
decision makers at record labels. Offer free trial reports to convince record labels and an initial lower
cost for buyers along with discounts for high volumes ordered over a fiscal year. In the long run,
promote Human Music Interface as a complement for Hit Song Science to maximize the revenue
earning capability of a song (by ensuring better listener penetration) that is marked as a winner by
HSS. Rationale: Target segment rationalization: The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the software doesn t produce enough value for the artist segment. Suppose, HMI promotes
specifically to this group and the members show enough enthusiasm resulting in satisfactory initial
penetration. Once, the initial curiosity about the quality of her own performance is satisfied the artist
won t find any alternative use of the report. If the report says their song has enough potential to be a
great hit, that conclusion does little for them because the record labels are not likely to acknowledge
the credibility of the HMI report. All exhibits are restricted to the US Market. Exhibit 1: Why USA is
the best choice of geography? The rationale behind the choice is obvious when we consider that it has
the highest music market in the world and is [(12609 5001) / 12609] ~ 60% more in dollar values than
the second highest, Japan. Graphically, when compared to the top 5 music markets, USA looks
significantly higher (for 2002): Exhibit 2: Cost savings to record labels The HSS software will identify
potential top 40 singles at an 80% success rate (based on trial run) as compared to the industry average
of 10% success rate. However, assuming a conservative approach let us assume that the actual success
rate for HSS will be 50%. Now let s run our analysis based on Sony where Polyphonic has the highest
chances of making a good penetration. There are about 3000 singles released per year; of which 10%

Analysis Of The Ruined Maid And One Perfect Rose
Women have been the victim of unfair stereotypes and placed at different standards than men since the
beginning of time. The Ruined Maid by Thomas Hardy and One Perfect Rose by Dorothy Parker take
an in depth look at how women are viewed by the opposite gender. Although they take a different
approach and have contrasting poetry styles, the theme that is portrayed is prominent for both. Hardy s
poem portrays a woman living in the Victorian Era where the norm was to be married and faithful.
The character Melia lives in an individualistic way and is not only unmarried, but has participated in
sexual activities before marriage. With this liveliness comes riches and prosperity, but also social
backlash. One Perfect Rose tells the story of a woman who receives a rose as a gift from her love
interest. The unnamed persona is displeased with this rose because it is typical and thoughtless. The
classic gift that men give to women is a rose, which is looked at as a romantic gesture. This poem s
purpose is to show the audience that not every girl s dream gift is a perfect rose. The Ruined Maid by
Thomas Hardy and One Perfect Rose by Dorothy Parker explore how two women break away from
typical stereotypes and long for a more unconventional way of life.
Throughout the course of both of the works of poetry, symbolism is repeatedly presented. When
Parker reads the line One Perfect Rose she is symbolizing how this is a stereotypical gift that women
receive and it holds little meaning

Ethics Essay
Our case study discusses the rise and fall of one of the largest telecommunications corporations in the
world, Nortel Networks Corporation. Nortel was one of the many early 21st century
telecommunications companies that failed due to upper echelon management, a dysfunctional board of
directors, inflated costs and earnings, and a smoke and mirrors illusion of stability. There were many
avenues that could have been taken that would have prevented the demise and fall of the organization,
but those roads were not traveled. Many argue that government intervention could have prevented the
backlash and whitewater effect of Nortel s bankruptcy, but due to corporate ties within the government
and the Securities and Exchange Commission the many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although initially they created unintended unethical behavior which probably resulted from a
dysfunctional management team, those initial ideas would later lead to several action sequences that
would have lasting effects. The two moral imperatives of do not lie and do unto others as you want
done to you were not attributes that several of the board members held (Collins, 2011, pg. 24). There
are a multitude of mechanisms that should be put in place to better align managers with the interests of
shareholders, and the government plays a big part of that puzzle. Agency problems arise when the
management of a public company pursues its own economic self interest ahead of shareowners and
secondary stakeholder s interests and portrays disregard for the respect for others and does not reflect
at atmosphere of corporate citizenship. This behavior may manifest itself in the form of golden
parachutes, long term employment contracts, corporate jets, and other perquisites. Managers are
susceptible to human nature and may pursue their own economic agendas without any concern for
maximizing the wealth of the shareowners (Anson, White, McGrew, Butler, 2004). Nortel investors
complained that even in its downward spiral, the executives received bonuses and issued excessively
optimistic projections. Soon there would not be much left other than the lawsuits alleging issuance of
misleading financial statements and blatant insider trading

The Battle of Coral Sea Essay
The Battle of Coral Sea was the first major sea battle between allied fleet forces, including those of the
United States and Australian Navies, and the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II.
Pivotal in terms of allied naval fleet operations during the war, the Battle of Coral Sea was also the
first naval battle that featured opposing air craft carriers in close proximity to each other, resulting in
air battles initiated by sea, rather than from traditional land bases. The following provides relevant
details. The plan calling for expansion of Japanese forces throughout the Pacific theater was
developed by the IJN and Japanese Army. As detailed by Stille, This called for a series of sequenced
operations designed to bring key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This had the effect of reducing the contingent of allied aircraft carriers in the Pacific by half. Hence,
when the Japanese launched their next offensive in the Southern Pacific, the IJN fleet would now be
augmented with carrier support, while U.S Naval forces suffered from a reduction in the same support
vital to their mission of defending a major Japanese offensive (Stille 8). Prior to the upcoming Coral
Sea battle, a number of Japanese military messages had been intercepted by the U.S. Navy signals
intelligence unit. The first, dated March 28, 1942, was encoded as stating The objective of MO will be
first to restrict the enemy fleet movements and will be accomplished by means of attacks on the north
coast of Australia. ( Battle of the Coral Sea ) Subsequent messages were intercepted that provided
allied forces with updated details concerning IJN fleet progress, as well as elements of IJN plans that
included battleship and carrier logistics. This resulted in the U.S. Navy s deployment of a cotillion of
numerous warships and support craft, and also the carriers Lexington and Yorktown ( Battle of the
Coral Seas ). In the upcoming battle, these ships would do battle against a superior IJN force
comprised of far more battleships, submarines and support craft, as well as aircraft carriers. While the
events leading up to the battle have been

Fracking And The Shale Formation
Fracking The Marcellus Shale formation located in western Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio is
projected to supply an equivalent of 45 years of the United States current energy consumption. Worth
an estimated five hundred billion, this can translate into cheaper and wider variety of products such as
plastic, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals. It can also relate to an increase [in] the supply of
fertilizer, ensuring the availability of food and reducing...the conversion of forests to agricultural
farms (Sovacool 252). The fracking industry will only increase in size in future years, so much so that

However, fracking fluid is not the only questionable aspect of fracking. Included is land and
infrastructure degradation, physiological harm to local citizens, utilization of legislation loopholes,
and the secrecy of fracking fluid formulas within the industry. Fracking, like all industries, has many
hazards associated, and has initiated much political discussion at the state and federal levels of
government, while inciting concern of local citizens. Fracking is not the cleanest alternative to oil
reclamation, but has improved drastically with the introduction of hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic
fracturing is an extremely controversial topic, raising concerns of safety and of economic feasibility
by both affected or non affected citizens and members of government. Nonetheless, the negative
attributes of fracking, such as fracking fluid dispersal and other environmental issues are outweighed
by the vast economic gains and can be mitigated by a system of regulations and development of new
technologies for the industry.
The term, fracking, has existed for nearly a half century and has always had the negative connotation
of being unclean and associated with many environmental issues and adverse health effects. The

The Effects Of Mass Media And Communication On The Society
Media Message
Introduction
Behavioral sciences play a central role in figuring out the likely effect of mass media and
communication in the society. Different theories and approaches are used to figure this out. This study
refers to the Uses and Gratifications, and Cultivation theories to consider the effect of the media
article below on individuals. The uses and gratification theory argues that consumers of a given media
uses this media to satisfy and fulfill specific desires and needs. On the other hand, cultivation theory
holds that heavy exposure to a certain media can cause an individual to have an illusory perception of
the life reality based on the most consistent and repetitive message that is given in this media (Fourie,
2011).

United Parcel Service and Ups
United Parcel Service Executive Summary UPS has announced that after more than 90 years as a
private company, it was planning an initial public offering to become a publicly traded company. In
response to this, we will first analyze UPS¡¦s business strategy and it¡¦s sustainability of its current
performance. Then we will look at key factors to estimate the UPS¡¦s market capitalization value using
FedEx¡¦s multiples as well as ¡§best in breed¡¨ company premiums. From this, we concluded that
UPS¡¦s IPO should create a market capitalization for UPS between $17,520 million and $30,415
million. Evaluation UPS is the largest parcel delivery service in the world. They also help their
customers its customers with supply chain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we benchmark UPS relative to best of breed(BOB) industry premium using FedEx as the industrial
comparable, then we come up with an average UPS market capitalization of $ 30,415 million. Using
the 58% average BOB premium for the trailing price to earnings multiple, we come up with UPS
market capitalization of $21,985 million. If we use the 103% average BOB premium for the market to
book multiple, then we come with UPS market capitalization of $38,845 million. UPS doesn¡¦t seem
like it deserves a BOB premium because its only has 15% higher net income than FedEx where the
BOB premium companies average over 200% higher net income than the industrial comparable. But,
since the last year¡¦s net income was negatively affected by the tax court ruling we believe their net
income in 1999 should be looked at without this one time write off against their net income which
would bring their net income more closer to what the BOB premium companies average. Conclusion
We believe the UPS¡¦s actual market capitalization and stock value lies somewhere between $17,520
million and $30,415 million. Although we believe that UPS shouldn¡¦t be fully valued using the BOB
premium because of the uncertain future business and financial prospects, we also don¡¦t think just
using FedEx¡¦s multiples as benchmark for the UPS¡¦s value captures the true market capitalization
value for UPS.

Charlie Strong Character Analysis
As the kick off to the college football season rapidly approaches, the start of a new era is ready to get
underway in Austin, Texas. The Longhorns finished the season 8 5 last year, with a rough beginning
that saw the firing of Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz by the second game of the season. The team
came together midseason to put together a string of victories during conference play, including a
surprise upset of the 14 point favorite Oklahoma Sooners. The season ended on a bad note with
embarrassing losses to conference rivals Oklahoma State and Baylor and with an awful performance
in the Alamo Bowl against Oregon.
After 16 years of coaching the Longhorn football program, Head Coach Mack Brown, a man that won
it all in 2005 and nearly won it all again in 2009, gives up the reigns to Coach Charlie Strong. Charlie

$25,000 and all felony criminal cases in which jail time exceeds 1 year. In each district there are also
numerous limited jurisdiction courts such as Michigan District Courts which handles traffic matters,
criminal cases in which the punishment is less than a year in jail, and civil cases for between $3000
and $25,000 in damages is sought. Michigan Small Claims Courts in which civil cases of $3,000 or
less are heard. Michigan Probate Courts which handle wills, estates and guardianships cases and also

3D printing is where a three dimensional object is created by laying down successive layers of
material that adhere to one another, creating a three dimensional output. (Kurt and Colegrove, 2012) It
has the ability to turn digital files created on a CAD or CAM program into physical objects. (Hoffman,
2015) MakerBot Replicator is a typical example of a product that uses 3D printing. (Figure 1)
The Replicator uses 1.75mm polylactic acid (PLA) filament. Various colors are available, meaning
that lots of flexibility is given as to the final look of the product that s printed.
As its software, MakerBot Desktop software is used. This allows individuals to save files in a personal
Library that you ve created, printed, or want to print; find new objects in the Thingiverse to print; and
access instructional and troubleshooting videos. (Hoffman, 2015) In other words, it s software that

Personality, Psychology, And Humanistic Approach
Personality in a Nutshell Personality is looked at everyday purposely and accidently. Whether you are
judging how your new professor for the semester will be, or if you are studying your best friend for a
project, personality is studied abundantly. While there are many ways to define personality, there is
not a worldwide definition around. Personality is the unique combination of patterns that influence
behavior, thought, motivation, and emotion in a human being (boundless.com). That is one of many
ways of defining personality. When examining personality, there are four main approachable theories
including: The Psychodynamic Approach, The Trait Approach, The Social Cognitive Approach, and
The Humanistic Approach. The Psychodynamic Approach was first approach by Sigmund Freud; he
dealt with the understanding that personality came from our unconscious state of mind. And that
unconscious state interacted to determine our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings (Bernstein, 425). Freud
also created the psychoanalytical theory stating that personality led the way to handling psychological
disorders. He divided personality into three main topics; which are the id, the ego, and the superego.
The id is the basis of each human being s instincts we are all born with. It is the immediate wants I
crave; it may show more selfish side. The ego is the part that subdues the id and calms it down. It
allows me to think and realize certain actions may upset someone else around me. The superego is

Main Theme Of The Aboriginal View Regarding The Natural...
Aboriginal In Canada, many Aboriginal people highly value traditional knowledge that the
environment can teach them. They have traditional ways of using natural resources. They also have a
sort of theory that a person is connected by the food they eat, their environment, and the impact of
lifestyle choices. These three things are essential to have a good quality of life. In Aboriginal
communities, oral history is very important. It is passed down, from Elders to children about practical
knowledge of how to live off the land and their other cultural history. They always try to heal and
protect mother nature. Societal Society has two completely different sides on the subject of
environmentalism. The one side will brush of the problems that the environment faces today. A person
that thinks this way will reassure the society that the problem is not as bad as originally thought. The

What is the main theme of the Aboriginal view regarding the natural environment? The main theme
that appears constantly throughout the history of the Aboriginals is to have respect for the natural
environment. The Aboriginals will have complete disregard for anything that is processed or man
made, because it does not allow for the environment to be appreciated as it should be. Generation after
generation of Aboriginals are taught that the land that they live on is sacred, and if the land is
respected, then you will respected in return by the land as well as Mother Nature. 2. What is the
relationship between the Creator and the people? The relationship that people have with the Creator is
a sacred one that should not be disturbed in any way. Sometimes people take that relationship for
granted and lose their way to happiness because they have lost the Creator s guidance. In order to
maintain that stable relationship, respect for all things living is essential. 3. Based on the Catholic

The Problem Of Deaf Culture
Deaf culture is a way to start this essay. Most people, when they think of deafness, assume that it is
nothing more than a disability. This is erroneous because defining what deaf really means, means
looking past the definition and looking into the heart of a deaf person, to see equality among us all.
Equality among humans isn t controversial, but what is? Cochlear Implantation is controversial.
Inserting an internal disruption of the deaf culture is controversial. Placing an electronic device in
your children s ears because you want them to talk like a normal child is controversial. After having a
very rigorous debate about CI s in my ASL class, I came to the conclusion that out of 30 students,
more than half of them would choose implantation of their young fragile, pure child. Being deaf is
way more than just being able to hear, being deaf is a gift; a family within a family, and implanting a
child a child under your circumstances only shreds the wrapping paper off that gift. Lets jump right
into the positive facts of cochlear implants, because there isn t many. in a very descriptive and
informational article by Ron Kotulak, he mentions that, The implant significantly improve the hearing
of adults in conjunction with speech reading. Benefits have also been observed in children as young as
two. So, it is an unbiased fact that, in some cases, Cochlear Implantation is highly effective and serves
as a great purpose for the treatment of hearing loss. The FDA, Food and

The Phoenicians Research Paper
The Phoenicians: The Master Traders of the Mediterranean World The Mediterranean Sea is home to
many great civilizations in our early history. The Ancient Greeks and Romans established their
empires in this region and their cultural contributions have greatly influenced the development of
modern Western culture. Unlike the Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, there is one
Mediterranean civilization that did not have a land centric empire. The Phoenicians are the first
civilization to create a long distance sea trading network in the ancient Mediterranean world. This

According to the Phoenician Maritime Religion: Sailors, Goddess Worship, and the Grotta Regina

will want his ship to have certain attributes necessary for his trading voyage. These attributes include
the overall size of the ship, the amount of cargo and the durability of the ship while using different
trade routes during its voyage (Christian 2013:181). One example, which features an archaeological
analysis of an ancient Phoenician galley is in the Iron Age Shipwrecks in Deep Water off Ashkelon,
Israel article. This article features a discovery of a sunken Phoenician galley called the Tanit located
near modern day Israel in 1997. Archaeologists working on this project dated the Tanit around 750

regions of the Mediterranean. The archaeologists have also discovered several artifacts within the

Introduction
Private carriage is an important part of the U.S economy and world over as well. The development of
private fleets became pervasive after World War I when governments, local, state, and federal,
developed highways. It is an important complex task to operate private fleets whereby significant
pressures related to cost and maintenance remains pervasive in the industry. Along with industry
related challenges, there are several factors related to compliance, safety, and accountability (CSA)
enforcement that private fleet owners have to consider. The transportation system world over and
specifically in the U.S is not complete until private fleet is not accounted for. The U.S has one the
largest private fleet companies in the world. Until 1990s, 50% of all domestic trucking in the U.S was
accomplished by the private fleets (Maltz, 1993). Usually the private transport carriers are vertically
integrated firms that use transportation transport hires the rental services from private transport
carriers. The logistics management journal estimated the private fleet market to be $280 billion

Animal Rights and Laws
Animal Rights The world has existed with the presence of both living and non living matter. Human
beings have been accorded the right of protection and preservation of the environment, where the
animals belong. In essence, humanity is all about coexisting with animals and plants, together with the
other non living matter. With preference of human beings over animals, and with preference of
animals over plants, every category higher than the other, is relinquishing the capacity to dominate
and coexist with the higher authority. The world is evidently a home to both plants and animals,
including the non living matter. All animals are living. Moreover, all plants are living. The distinction
between human beings and other animals has led to the establishment of a code of relationship and use
which human beings has embraced over the years. Human beings have dominion over animals. This is
in accordance with the innate characteristics and capabilities that human beings possess unlike other
animals (Hargrove 168). With respect to this, human beings have often used animals in assorted ways.
The many ways that animals are beneficial to human beings has elicited concerns over the rights of
animals. Because of this, there is an ethical relationship between plants and animals, together with
animals and man. There is a philosophy that human beings are a dominant factor in the environment.
Evidently, human beings have used and misused animals as part of the other facets found in the

Darwinists and Dissenters
Did God create the universe or did the universe create itself? Ever since Charles Darwin s On the
Origin of Species was first published in 1859, the debate between those that believe life was brought
into existence by supernatural means and those who believe in Darwin s theory of evolution has been
fierce. Each side presents compelling arguments that may sway any uneducated reader to agree with
their position based solely on the confidence they portray in their writings. However, because of the
vastness and strength of evidence presented by the proponents of modern evolutionary theory,
Darwinists have proved their point much greater than those who argue in favor of Intelligent Design.
In this essay, four arguments will be presented; two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, the complexity of life and its organisms could not have arisen slowly over time
because if one part of a whole is not present then it cannot function, survive, and therefore possess the
ability to reproduce and evolve. Behe explains this theory using a mousetrap as an example. He writes
that if any one of the components of the mousetrap (the base, hammer, spring, catch, or holding bar) is
removed, then the trap does not function and that because the mousetrap is necessarily composed of
several parts, it is irreducibly complex... thus [proving] irreducibly complex systems exist (5).
Although Behe s theory seems reasonable, Jerry Coyne points out in his book, Why Evolution Is True,
that the... designs [observed] make sense only if they evolved from features of earlier ancestors and
that an Intelligent Designer would not have made it a motive to have organisms appear as though they
evolved (Coyne, 85). Coyne s critique of Behe s theory of irreducible complexity further solidifies the
Darwinists claim, especially in regard to his point that an Intelligent Designer

U.s. Foreign Policies During The Arab Spring
Review of U.S. Foreign Policies to Egypt after the Arab Spring
Our initial response to the 2011 revolution was appropriate. You suggested Mubarak to resign and
declared U.S. support for the revolutionists. The decision reversed our long time Middle East policy
favoring stability over democracy, but it served our national interest. It forestalled a Syria style civil
war as we dissuaded the Egyptian Army from suppression. Such a war can jeopardize our use of the
Suez Canal as a crucial route to deploy our naval forces.
Unfortunately, our subsequent policies only undermined the stability in Egypt and our influence in this
area. We have used the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans to persuade both the SCAF and
President Morsi to accelerate their political and economic reform. However, this project was not
accepted by the Egyptian leaders who were reluctant to initiate political reforms that may undermine
their domestic support and increase their national debt. The delay of IMF aid weakened the Egyptians
power to stabilize its rickety economy and pacify its poor civilians. Consequently, the Egyptian
leaders sought alternative sources of funding from Libya and the Gulf States, which decreased our
voice in the politics of Egypt.
When President Morsi was abdicated in the 2013 coup d état by the military, the U.S. took an
ambiguous policy. You condemned the coup and demanded the power to be returned to democratically
elected leaders. To materialize your criticism, we

Abraham Lincoln s Beliefs
Some have said that Abraham Lincoln s beliefs are a mystery. He himself has never proclaimed his
beliefs but a lot can be determined by his actions and words. Through observation, there have been
quite a lot of conclusions to his faith. Some conclusions are: skepticism, deism, Christianity, theism,
fatalism, and even atheism. It s an on going debate for the conclusion to his faith although we won t be
able to ever prove exactly what his beliefs were since he never made a profession, there are many facts
leading to his belief in a personal savior.
Among the conclusions, skepticism is one of many. In his earlier years, he was a known skeptic and he
is often remembered as a skeptic because of his earlier quotes (George). Despite his firm belief in
God, proved by the references to God and the Bible in the Second Inaugural Address, some say that he
was just trying to please the audience even though what he said is not what the people wanted to hear
(Calhoun and Morel). Lincoln may have been a skeptic at a young age, but he showed reliance on God
later in life. James Smith said that he was inclined to believe that Lincoln was a skeptic but unlike
most skeptics, he was a constant reader of the Bible (Lind, 51). He showed no skepticism as the
president, he only showed his reliance on God and his unfailing word.
Another belief was that Lincoln was a deist. Possibly because he never made a profession of faith and
he never officially joined a church but this is not a sound argument.

Cleophon The Agora
My film is a fictional tale based on historic events and using legitimate historical characters. Under the
genre of war/political drama, this film focuses greatly on the final period of the Peloponnesian War
between Athens and the Peloponnesian League. Many scenes in the film take place in Athens during a
period of upheaval und unrest; therefore, filming scenes in sets of the Agora, will capture the scale of
Athens at the time. One example is the trial of Cleophon, a scene that will be shot in a reconstruction
of the Heliaia, the courthouse of Athens. An earlier scene detailing the arrest of Cleophon takes place
in his fictional office on the outskirts of the Agora.

It takes place in Cleophon s fictional office room, a simple square room with minimal furniture to
emphasize the focus on Cleophon and his diligence. The scene occurs at nighttime and indoors, and
will be dimly lit by closed lamps and candles. This minimal lighting will provide even more drama, as
shadows will be cast along the walls. The main furniture in the scene is Cleophon s oak desk, covered
with parchment, emphasizing Cleophon s business and desperation to stop the Peloponnesians. On the
back wall of the office is a wall painting of Dike holding a scale of justice, representing the ironic
injustice of the scene. Cleophon is seated at his desk, wearing a simple chiton to suggest his lack of
concern for flamboyant, elite garments. The actor is in his early 30s, as the true age of Cleophon is not
known. This age emphasizes the perspective difference between Cleophon and the older oligarchs
with their superiority complex. The scene will begin with focus on a distressed Cleophon, busily
working at his desk on plans to unite the people against the Peloponnesians. This distress will be
quickly interrupted by the sound of the magistrates police knocking on the door. Cleophon is then
arrested and lead out of his office, while the camera ends on the illuminated painting of Dike. Overall,
this scene occurs in a historically accurate setting, yet one

Our Paper Today Will Be On Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo Is
Our paper today will be on Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo is an American bank that was created in 1852 by
Henry Wells and James Fargo. It is the second largest bank in the USA in terms of market cap,
operates in over 42 countries around the world, and has over 260,000 employees.
In 2016, federal regulators caught Wells Fargo creating millions of fake bank and credit card accounts;
over 1.5 million bank accounts were created. Furthermore, federal regulators also said that 565,443
credit cards were created, and 1400 of those accounts had been charged over 400,000 dollars in fees.
Wells Fargo employees broke many ethical and legal boundaries and engaged in counterproductive
work behavior.

This practice was so common that Wells Fargo employees had several methods for doing this. The
first method is sand bagging. Sand Bagging involves failing to open accounts by customers at their
requested date, instead accumulating accounts to open in the next sales period to inflate profits.
Another practice was called Pinning which was creating pin numbers without customer s
authorization, and attaching them to credit cards. Then employees would impersonate customers on
Wells Fargo s computers and use these pin numbers to create online banking and bills for customers.
Finally, a practice called bundling was done where Wells Fargo employees would mislead customers
saying that certain banking products were only available in bundles which forced customers to add
more products than they wanted. So, one wonders, how could this have happened? Why did high
expectations of sales lead to unethical, almost criminal behaviour? This is tied to Goal Setting theory.
Goal setting theory, created by Edwin Locke, states that employees are motivated by clear goals, and
appropriate feedback. Individuals that were given clear, specific and difficult goals had greater
performance than individuals given general and easy goals. However, research has shown that setting
unattainable and challenging goals can lead to risky or even unethical behaviour. A study done by

The Comic Book Maus
In the comic book Maus, Art Spiegelman shows the readers what people endured during the Holocaust
terror. Art mostly spoke about persons of Jewish descent. He utilized great imagery, and characteristics
to allow readers to get a mental image and painting of the immense pain and suffering Jews endured
during the Holocaust. His use of symbolism of mice and cats helped to show how Jews were just
pawns, and experimental factors to Germans. Art allows for the reader to see how terrifying and
horrific it was for Jews to live through the senseless racism, and harsh living conditions. These camps
were like a living hell, full of deceit, hate, guilt, and survival of the fittest. If one were to read Maus ,
and fully look at the words , and paint these pictures they would noticed how the Holocaust just wasn t

Throughout Maus, it was vividly painted how awful it was to kill so many innocent lives, and treat
them like animals, and second class citizens. This is why Spiegelman chose the specific type of
animals he did to help symbolize the slayings. He chose mice, because majority of time mice are

How Do Proteins Help Body Repair Cells
Living organisms need proteins in their diet to help the body repair cells and make new ones. The
basic structure of protein is a chain of amino acids. When two amino acids join together a dipeptide is
formed but when more than two amino acids are joined together a polypeptide is formed. Proteins are
made up of one or more polypeptides. Proteins are large molecules made up of the elements hydrogen,
oxygen, nitrogen and carbon. Types of proteins include, structural proteins, contractile proteins,
hormones, enzymes, antibodies and transport proteins. Some functions of proteins are movement in

quarter of all proteins in the body. The function of collagen is to give mechanical strength. In the walls
of arteries, a layer of collagen prevents blood that is being pumped from the heart at high pressure
from bursting the walls. Tendons connect skeletal muscles to the bones. Tendons are mostly collagen
and form a strong connection that allows muscles to pull bones for movement. Collagen is also
responsible for the elasticity of the skin, which is why the skin becomes wrinkled when it lacks
collagen . It also makes the skin waterproof. The functions of collagen in the connective tissue include

Lebrón Bayrón Article Rebuttal In this article rebuttal an analysis will take place on the authors,
reliability, credibility, and validity on the account of Noah s flood. The rebuttal will give emphasis on
the claims young earth creationist have on the earth s existence period. Additionally, address old earth
and young earth theories. Finally identify any fallacies in the argument. For centuries creation
theorists have given emphasis to Noah s flood as enough evidence to a universal deluge. Nevertheless,
it is understood the ark presented in the Bible had a higher credibility to a local flood. According ...

The following claim states that it can give evidence that all animals and humans originated from
occupants of the ark. The people could have descended from the ark inhabitants, but scientist lack
evidence on the animals descending from the ark. Finding the ark does not give evidence of the
ancestry of all creatures. One way to refute this is consider the Koala in Australia. How did this
earthly animal travel to Australia once the ark settled? Traveling this distance would be impossible
nevertheless because the flood was local Koalas did not need to be on the ark. Furthermore, the author
asserts that locating ark remains forces paleontologists to re decipher fossils as an effect of the flood,
not of many years buildup. Old earth creationists relates fully with the geological proof of the arks old
age existence. There are no findings of the ark, although several informants alleged to have seen it. In
reality the ark will never be located, most likely it no longer exists. Noah maybe used the ark wood for
rebuilding the society. God declared to Noah never again would He destroy the world with water.
Noah was clear he had no use for the ark maybe he dismantled it for constructing material. Moreover,
creation theorists Baumgardner, and Barnett claim after the flood the land would have resembled a
lifeless wilderness deprived of trees and plants. If the plant and tree seeds floated after the flood it
would still take many years

Bioluminescence in Fungi
Bioluminescence in Fungi
INTRODUCTION
What is Bioluminescence?
The current paper main focus is on bioluminescent Fungi but the basic features of bioluminescence
discussed are common to all bioluminescent organisms.
Bioluminescence is simply light created by living organisms. Probably the most commonly known
example of bioluminescence by North Americans is the firefly, which lights its abdomen during its
mating season to communicate with potential mates. This bioluminescent ability occurs in 25 different
phyla many of which are totally unrelated and diverse with the phylum Fungi included in this list
(an illustration of a bioluminescent fungi is displayed in figure 1). One of the features of biological
light that distinguishes it from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luciferins and Luciferase differ chemically in different organisms but they all require molecular
energy
(ATP) for the reaction. 2) The chemical energy in stage one excites a specific molecule (The
Luminescent Molecule: the combining of Luciferase and Luciferin).
The excitement is caused by the increased energy level of the luminescent molecule. The result of this
excitement is decay which is manifested in the form of photon emissions, which produces the light.
The light given off does not depend on light or other energy taken in by the organism and is just the
byproduct of the chemical reaction and is therefore cold light. The bioluminescence in fungi occurs
intracellulary and has been noted at the spore level(Burr 1985, Newton 1952 and Herring 1978). This
may at times be mistaken for a extracellular source of light but this is due to the diffusion of the light
through the cells of the fungus. In examining the photograph in figure 1, it appear that the cap of the
fungus is glowing but after study, it was observed that just the gill structures that emits the light and
the cap
(which is thin) emits the light of the

  • 2. Dbq Columbian Exchange The Columbian Exchange was the widespread transfer of plants, animals, culture, human populations, technology, and ideas between the Americas and the Old World in the 15th and 16th centuries, related to European colonization and trade after Christopher Columbus s 1492 voyage. The Columbian exchange affected some lives tremendously and others lives in relatively less significantly. The people who were most strongly affected were the natives of the Americas and those of Africa. The Native Americans were affected tremendously, mostly in negative ways. It is possible to say that they were helped by the Columbian Exchange because the exchange brought new species of animals to the New World. This improved the lifestyles of many native groups. However, the natives of the Americas were devastated by the germs that came to the New World as part of the exchange. Infectious diseases like smallpox are believed to have killed up to half of the of the native population since that population had no resistance to those diseases. Europeans lives were generally enriched by the exchange. Europeans got new foods like tomatoes and potatoes. They got corn and tobacco and chocolate. The VA s main purpose is to provide a trust worthy source of information and resources for all military personnel. The VA is not driven by its dollar signs but by seeing that everyone involved with the military has a place that they can turn to for anything they need. With that in mind, I know that the Department of Veteran s Affairs is the place for me. If the report says their song has enough potential to be a great hit, that conclusion does little for them because the record labels are not likely to acknowledge the credibility of the HMI report. All exhibits are restricted to the US Market. Exhibit 1: Why USA is the best choice of geography? The rationale behind the choice is obvious when we consider that it has the highest music market in the world and is [(12609 5001) / 12609] ~ 60% more in dollar values than the second highest, Japan. • 6. Analysis Of The Ruined Maid And One Perfect Rose Women have been the victim of unfair stereotypes and placed at different standards than men since the beginning of time. The Ruined Maid by Thomas Hardy and One Perfect Rose by Dorothy Parker take an in depth look at how women are viewed by the opposite gender. Although they take a different approach and have contrasting poetry styles, the theme that is portrayed is prominent for both. Hardy s poem portrays a woman living in the Victorian Era where the norm was to be married and faithful. The character Melia lives in an individualistic way and is not only unmarried, but has participated in sexual activities before marriage. With this liveliness comes riches and prosperity, but also social backlash. One Perfect Rose tells the story of a woman who receives a rose as a gift from her love interest. The unnamed persona is displeased with this rose because it is typical and thoughtless. The classic gift that men give to women is a rose, which is looked at as a romantic gesture. This poem s purpose is to show the audience that not every girl s dream gift is a perfect rose. The Ruined Maid by Thomas Hardy and One Perfect Rose by Dorothy Parker explore how two women break away from typical stereotypes and long for a more unconventional way of life. Throughout the course of both of the works of poetry, symbolism is repeatedly presented. When Parker reads the line One Perfect Rose she is symbolizing how this is a stereotypical gift that women receive and it holds little meaning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nortel was one of the many early 21st century telecommunications companies that failed due to upper echelon management, a dysfunctional board of directors, inflated costs and earnings, and a smoke and mirrors illusion of stability. There were many avenues that could have been taken that would have prevented the demise and fall of the organization, but those roads were not traveled. Many argue that government intervention could have prevented the backlash and whitewater effect of Nortel s bankruptcy, but due to corporate ties within the government and the Securities and Exchange Commission the many ... The two moral imperatives of do not lie and do unto others as you want done to you were not attributes that several of the board members held (Collins, 2011, pg. 24). There are a multitude of mechanisms that should be put in place to better align managers with the interests of shareholders, and the government plays a big part of that puzzle. Agency problems arise when the management of a public company pursues its own economic self interest ahead of shareowners and secondary stakeholder s interests and portrays disregard for the respect for others and does not reflect at atmosphere of corporate citizenship. This behavior may manifest itself in the form of golden parachutes, long term employment contracts, corporate jets, and other perquisites. Managers are susceptible to human nature and may pursue their own economic agendas without any concern for maximizing the wealth of the shareowners (Anson, White, McGrew, Butler, 2004). Prior to the upcoming Coral Sea battle, a number of Japanese military messages had been intercepted by the U.S. Navy signals intelligence unit. The first, dated March 28, 1942, was encoded as stating The objective of MO will be first to restrict the enemy fleet movements and will be accomplished by means of attacks on the north coast of Australia. This resulted in the U.S. Navy s deployment of a cotillion of numerous warships and support craft, and also the carriers Lexington and Yorktown ( Battle of the Coral Seas ). United Parcel Service and Ups United Parcel Service Executive Summary UPS has announced that after more than 90 years as a private company, it was planning an initial public offering to become a publicly traded company. In response to this, we will first analyze UPS¡¦s business strategy and it¡¦s sustainability of its current performance. Then we will look at key factors to estimate the UPS¡¦s market capitalization value using FedEx¡¦s multiples as well as ¡§best in breed¡¨ company premiums. From this, we concluded that UPS¡¦s IPO should create a market capitalization for UPS between $17,520 million and $30,415 million. Evaluation UPS is the largest parcel delivery service in the world. Using the 58% average BOB premium for the trailing price to earnings multiple, we come up with UPS market capitalization of $21,985 million. If we use the 103% average BOB premium for the market to book multiple, then we come with UPS market capitalization of $38,845 million. UPS doesn¡¦t seem like it deserves a BOB premium because its only has 15% higher net income than FedEx where the BOB premium companies average over 200% higher net income than the industrial comparable. But, since the last year¡¦s net income was negatively affected by the tax court ruling we believe their net income in 1999 should be looked at without this one time write off against their net income which would bring their net income more closer to what the BOB premium companies average. Conclusion We believe the UPS¡¦s actual market capitalization and stock value lies somewhere between $17,520 million and $30,415 million. Although we believe that UPS shouldn¡¦t be fully valued using the BOB premium because of the uncertain future business and financial prospects, we also don¡¦t think just using FedEx¡¦s multiples as benchmark for the UPS¡¦s value captures the true market capitalization value for UPS. ... The Longhorns finished the season 8 5 last year, with a rough beginning that saw the firing of Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz by the second game of the season. • 18. Personality, Psychology, And Humanistic Approach Personality in a Nutshell Personality is looked at everyday purposely and accidently. Whether you are judging how your new professor for the semester will be, or if you are studying your best friend for a project, personality is studied abundantly. While there are many ways to define personality, there is not a worldwide definition around. Personality is the unique combination of patterns that influence behavior, thought, motivation, and emotion in a human being (boundless.com). That is one of many ways of defining personality. When examining personality, there are four main approachable theories including: The Psychodynamic Approach, The Trait Approach, The Social Cognitive Approach, and The Humanistic Approach. The Psychodynamic Approach was first approach by Sigmund Freud; he dealt with the understanding that personality came from our unconscious state of mind. Freud also created the psychoanalytical theory stating that personality led the way to handling psychological disorders. He divided personality into three main topics; which are the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is the basis of each human being s instincts we are all born with. It is the immediate wants I crave; it may show more selfish side. The ego is the part that subdues the id and calms it down. Their duet performance was entertaining and colorful, the two girls added their own style which gave the performance an extra twist on the song. This is erroneous because defining what deaf really means, means looking past the definition and looking into the heart of a deaf person, to see equality among us all. Equality among humans isn t controversial, but what is? Cochlear Implantation is controversial. Inserting an internal disruption of the deaf culture is controversial. Placing an electronic device in your children s ears because you want them to talk like a normal child is controversial. After having a very rigorous debate about CI s in my ASL class, I came to the conclusion that out of 30 students, more than half of them would choose implantation of their young fragile, pure child. Being deaf is way more than just being able to hear, being deaf is a gift; a family within a family, and implanting a child a child under your circumstances only shreds the wrapping paper off that gift. Lets jump right into the positive facts of cochlear implants, because there isn t many. in a very descriptive and informational article by Ron Kotulak, he mentions that, The implant significantly improve the hearing of adults in conjunction with speech reading. Benefits have also been observed in children as young as two. It forestalled a Syria style civil war as we dissuaded the Egyptian Army from suppression. Such a war can jeopardize our use of the Suez Canal as a crucial route to deploy our naval forces. Through observation, there have been quite a lot of conclusions to his faith. Some conclusions are: skepticism, deism, Christianity, theism, fatalism, and even atheism. It s an on going debate for the conclusion to his faith although we won t be able to ever prove exactly what his beliefs were since he never made a profession, there are many facts leading to his belief in a personal savior. Among the conclusions, skepticism is one of many. In his earlier years, he was a known skeptic and he is often remembered as a skeptic because of his earlier quotes (George). Despite his firm belief in God, proved by the references to God and the Bible in the Second Inaugural Address, some say that he was just trying to please the audience even though what he said is not what the people wanted to hear (Calhoun and Morel). Lincoln may have been a skeptic at a young age, but he showed reliance on God later in life. James Smith said that he was inclined to believe that Lincoln was a skeptic but unlike most skeptics, he was a constant reader of the Bible (Lind, 51). He showed no skepticism as the president, he only showed his reliance on God and his unfailing word. Another belief was that Lincoln was a deist. The following claim states that it can give evidence that all animals and humans originated from occupants of the ark. The people could have descended from the ark inhabitants, but scientist lack evidence on the animals descending from the ark. Finding the ark does not give evidence of the ancestry of all creatures. One way to refute this is consider the Koala in Australia. How did this earthly animal travel to Australia once the ark settled? Traveling this distance would be impossible nevertheless because the flood was local Koalas did not need to be on the ark. Furthermore, the author asserts that locating ark remains forces paleontologists to re decipher fossils as an effect of the flood, not of many years buildup. Old earth creationists relates fully with the geological proof of the arks old age existence. There are no findings of the ark, although several informants alleged to have seen it. In reality the ark will never be located, most likely it no longer exists. Noah maybe used the ark wood for rebuilding the society. God declared to Noah never again would He destroy the world with water. Noah was clear he had no use for the ark maybe he dismantled it for constructing material. Moreover, creation theorists Baumgardner, and Barnett claim after the flood the land would have resembled a lifeless wilderness deprived of trees and plants. Luciferins and Luciferase differ chemically in different organisms but they all require molecular energy (ATP) for the reaction. 2) The chemical energy in stage one excites a specific molecule (The Luminescent Molecule: the combining of Luciferase and Luciferin). The excitement is caused by the increased energy level of the luminescent molecule. The result of this excitement is decay which is manifested in the form of photon emissions, which produces the light. The light given off does not depend on light or other energy taken in by the organism and is just the byproduct of the chemical reaction and is therefore cold light. The bioluminescence in fungi occurs intracellulary and has been noted at the spore level(Burr 1985, Newton 1952 and Herring 1978). This may at times be mistaken for a extracellular source of light but this is due to the diffusion of the light through the cells of the fungus. In examining the photograph in figure 1, it appear that the cap of the fungus is glowing but after study, it was observed that just the gill structures that emits the light and the cap (which is thin) emits the light of the ...
