Environmental Pollution To Save The Environment
Whether individuals choose to believe in it or not, environmental destruction is a very real and
apparent social problem that needs to be addressed before it is too late to save the Earth. Numerous
factors such as the climate change, disposal of waste, deforestation, and the quality of air and water
impact the destruction of our world. The majority of the blame for our Earth s deterioration falls on
the human race, however, some of the blame does fall on industries, that for example may improperly
dispose of their waste. Because of the actions and behaviors of humans as a whole, the environment is
suffering irreversible damage. The small population of people that do advocate for change or engage
in environment friendly activities is not enough to help fix the environment alone. Drastic changes
need to start being made if the human race wants a chance at saving our environment. This change is
urgent because problems are not linear. If you inflict enough damage, you ve shifted the planet into a
whole new state and the damage spirals out of control (1). Examples of this detrimental damage are
demonstrated in The Guardian news article, Humans have destroyed a tenth of Earth s wilderness in
25 years study, where the effects of deforestation are focused on. By invading the wilderness, many
animals habitats are disrupted, consequently putting them in danger of becoming extinct. Once this
habitat is disturbed and destroyed, it is officially gone and cannot be restored. Humans

The Debate Over Abortion On Abortion Essay
So long as political debate has existed in America, there has been a strong tension between the
ideologies of conservatism and liberalism. While there are numerous differences between the two
ideologies, the core of each is expressed clearly through the modern debate of abortion. The vision,
ideals, and assumptions of each ideology can be identified through the way in which each ideology
argues its position on abortion. The debate over abortion has been taking place since the 19th century.
Abortions were legal until the mid 1800s when states began to outlaw them. When the Roe vs Wade
decision was made in 1973, laws affecting abortions existed in 46 states. This Supreme Court decision
affirmed the right for women to have abortions. While the decision was made over forty years ago, the
public debate is as fierce as ever. A popular political action within the anti abortion movement is to
protest outside of Planned Parenthood facilities. Planned Parenthood is a non profit organization
which provides reproductive planning and services to women. Anti abortion activists have targeted
Planned Parenthood because a small percentage of their services include abortion. As a result of the
protests, as well as outrage caused by hidden video from inside a Planned Parenthood center, several
states have defunded the organization. It should be noted that government money is not used at
Planned Parenthood to conduct abortions. There are two main viewpoints on the issue of abortion.

Causes of Workplace Stress
Causes of Workplace Stress
There are many factors that can exacerbate the causes of stress in the workplace. The challenges faced
by people in the workplace make the job more exciting and interesting. However, there are challenges
that can also have negative effects. The normal reaction to stress is tension, anxiety and excitement
and work life goes back to normal after a while. If however, the stress becomes overwhelming or if it
happens too often, there can be a problem getting back to the normal state and one is no longer able to
relax. The most common causes of stress in the workplace are the following:
Demands at work become too extreme or excessive

Work bullies or co workers who make life miserable for you can also be a cause of workplace stress.
Job stress for women can also be caused by sexual harassment from colleagues or superiors. The
constant worry and isolation gives so much tension to a female employee leading to a hostile work
environment. This is a situation in which one is forced to deal with an intimidating and offensive
workplace everyday. This affects the ability to perform and to grow and be given credit in one s
chosen career. Success and advancement becomes hard, making the female worker frustrated and
unsatisfied.
One of the worst causes of stress in almost all workplace is a hostile working environment that can
come as a result of workplace bullying, sexual harassment or discrimination. These problems can only
be solved if a worker is well aware of her rights and if the company or the organization has provided a
proper forum that will address and solve such problems.
In the workplace, stress can be the result of any number of situations. Some examples include:
Categories of Job Stressors Examples
Factors unique to the job workload (overload and underload)
pace / variety / meaningfulness of work
autonomy (e.g., the ability to make your own decisions about our own job or about specific tasks)
shiftwork / hours of work
physical environment (noise, air quality, etc)

Liberal Arts Education In Plato s The Allegory Of The Cave
Patrick Awuah, the founder of Ashesi University, explains that the purpose of a liberal arts college is
to educate free men and woman to become leaders. Ashei was the first non profit liberal arts college in
West Africa. Patrick saw the need for a liberal arts education because he felt that the current leaders of
Africa did not have the creative thinking skills necessary to fix the problems threatening Africa. He
believed that a liberal arts education teaches students how to confront complex problems and create
new and important ideas. The key trait of a liberal arts education is that it teaches students how to
think creatively and allows them space to develop their own thinking skills, it creates a good balance
between societal and scientific knowledge. new sentence/rephrase
The Skidmore College Mission Statement emphasizes the importance of a never ending quest for
knowledge . This outlines one key part of a liberal arts education, the understanding that knowledge is
limitless and there will always be more questions to ask. This idea is conveyed in Plato s The Allegory
of the Cave, in this story, shadows on a wall represented the whole world to prisoners until one was
enlightened and saw the real world. Until enlightenment, the prisoners had no way of knowing that
they were looking at shadows their entire life, because we don t know about the knowledge that we
have not yet discovered. In the same way, we don t know the answers to questions we have not
thought of. It

Operational Strategies That Management May Use to Respond...
Operations refers to the transformation of raw materials(inputs) into finished products(outputs). The
operations process is one of the key business functions and is a crucial component to business success.
Like every business, Qantas is affected by many internal and external influences requiring it to have
effective strategies to respond to these influences. Businesses that are able to adopt and utilise
effective operational strategies are able to quickly adapt and either reduce or take advantage of these
influences that impact the business. The effectiveness of these strategies can measured by Qantas
performance and whether or not it is able to hold it s competitive advantage. How well these strategies

By outsourcing, Qantas is able to significantly reduce costs and maintain it s competitive advantage.
However this advantage also has a draw back, hundreds of engineers have also been cut from their
jobs and have had their jobs given to people overseas. This puts a bad reputation on the name of the
business as an Australian business will cut jobs from Australian workers and supple foreign workers
with jobs. Families and friends of these workers may feel resentment towards Qantas and choose to
travel with another airline instead resulting in a loss of customers. This strategy has been effective in
reducing cost but has resulted in a reduction of quality and safety and led to a decreased business
reputation resulting in a loss of customers and stakeholders.
Another strategy that Qantas has used to respond to globalisation is through product differentiation.
Qantas maintained it s competitive advantage by providing a service which was unique and different
to those of it s competitor. Qantas was known for having the best safety record of any airline in the
world . The airline was also true blue Australian and was Australian owned. This made the business
different and attracted customers towards Qantas giving it a competitive edge over it s foreign
competition. Following the deregulation of Qantas, the business has started to lose sight of what it
really was. The business has recently decided to implement another

Hip Hop Research Paper
In the past thirty years, hip hop culture has grown from its respectful beginnings in the South Bronx
section of New York City into an important and influential cultural movement. Created in the mid
1970s by poor Bronx residents with few resources, hip hop has become a billion dollar industry whose
reach now stretches around the world. Hip hop has influenced the way people make music, the way
they dance, and the way they wear their clothes. It has also shaped people s political views and turned
many people into entrepreneurs. Hip hop culture includes four main components: rapping, DJing,
graffiti art, and break dancing. At its start, hip hop was inspired by a change of other art forms, many
of which still influence and inspire hip hop artists today. One of hip hop s key characteristics is its
ability to take an idea, a practice, or a way of doing something and make it into something new. Hip

organization called the Zulu Nation that aimed to popularize and promote the developing hip hop

My Pain For Comfort
Pain For Comfort
I ve gone from house to house trying to find one to call home. I should call where i live home but
home shouldn t make you want to run. Walking into the door of my house feels so forlorn and cold.
Nothing there is ever happy and all the love has left along with the good memories. My only comfort
now comes from the solitude of my room and the deafening sound of my music, desperately trying to
drown out the shouts of anger and hate.
No I m not saying my life is completely awful, I do have good moments but not as often as I do bad
ones. A plethora amount of problems started with my mom and somehow moved its way towards my
dad and then my siblings. Everything isn t how it should be and where there should be love there is
hate and it just makes everything even more stressful when trying to focus on work and education. My
dad is the type of person everyone wants to know and love but behind the walls of the house he takes
all the anger in him and releases it like a tormented dragon on the knights he calls his family. My mom
is a people pleaser but that gets in the way a lot because she tries to please so much that all the stress
she gets from the day she holds back comes back home with her and wrecks everything. My house is a
constant alarm clock going off that has no snooze button. There is never a silent moment. There is
never peace.
Dinner was eaten together every night and we talked about stuff that made us happy. We went places
every year for a vacation. It

Importance Of Workplace Democracy In The Workplace
As Mahatma Ghandi once said: I understand democracy as something that gives the weak the same
chance as the strong .
A strong public demand, in the past two decades, for greater democracy and employees participation
has been growing and management is being put under pressure to meet this demand in all sectors
(Foley and Polanyi, 2006). In all political theories, one idea is never changing, democracy isn t only
the democracy of the state institutions but it includes all organizations and enterprises of the society.
The concept of workplace democracy was forgotten or actually neglected for so many years that now
it is being revived again especially with Theresa May s speech.
If we want to define workplace democracy in a very general way, it is the association of democratic
policies and practices in the workplace. It is a way to realize self actualization, reach individual
autonomy and freedom and it is the root of motivation to claim rights and participatory decision
making (Pausch, 2013). For the liberal thinking, it constitutes of having a set of institutions and
representatives that express and aggregate the voice of individual citizens. It is based on a majority
rule.
Individuals should, to a greater extent, be able to take control over their decisions and their workplace
conditions that affect their life. For democracy to be a way of life at work, transparency is the first rule
that should be applied as well as economic power. Employee participation in all ways

Unrealistic Expectations In Saramago s Blindness
Additionally, women all over the world are being subjected to cruelty by men and society because of
the unrealistic expectations that society places on them. Unrealistic expectations expand from,
expectations that are impossible to reach, to expecting too little from a person with potential for
greatness. Women in today s society are expected to fulfill impossible tasks that no one person is
capable of fulfilling, for example, women are expected to bare children and raise them to a certain
standard and if they their children do not meet the standard then they are ridiculed and discriminated
against. Also, women are belittled and suppressed by men because women are expected to only fulfill
tasks and jobs that men do not want, for example receptionist. ... Show more content on

Most of the men are older and have troubles just being able to participate in the conceiving of a child.
Although obvious that the women are not getting pregnant because of the men, the government and
the rest of the towns people blame the women for not being able to conceive. The impossible
expectation that is placed on the women is also followed by consequences for the women. After a
certain amount of time the women are cent to what they call the colonies to clean up nuclear waste
Even in todays time, women are checked to see why they can not get pregnant before a doctor ever
suggests that it could be the man. Women are the ones that are made to bare children. They are to take
responsibility for everything that men do not want to. If a relationship does not work out it is the
woman that has not worked to make a man want to stay. Unruly children are seen as not taught right
by their mothers. If a boy is homosexual, then his mother babied him to much. A miscarriage must be
because the mother did something wrong for example; did not eat proper food. Expectations are
placed on women everyday that have two sides, but the women are the ones that are expected to fulfill
the tasks and if something goes wrong it is her fault, not the other party for not assisting. Women that
are single mothers are judged if their children do not turn out as well as a child with two

World Order Research Paper
The world order, in general, refers to the economic, political or social state of affairs prevailing in the
world at a given time and the corresponding effect this has on the different relationships countries
have among each other. In this essay, I will argue that the world order is not in fact changing and that
we are not witnessing a power shift from the West to the rest of the world. To prove this, I will analyse
in terms of hard and soft power how the West is still the more dominant party. Firstly, I will compare
the military and economic power of the US and China and come to the conclusion that the US is the
more dominant power. Next, I will demonstrate how in terms of foreign policy and political power the
US commands more soft power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could, therefore, be argued that these increased political tensions may cause the US to lose key allies
and in turn help China become the more favoured country. However, in recent times, China has proven
to be arrogant, aggressive and rude when it comes to executing its foreign policy. Many countries,
including Japan and India, claim to find it increasingly challenging to cooperate with China and this
has done nothing but push said countries towards the US and cemented the US s global power.
Therefore, it is clear that even in terms of soft power, the US scores much higher than China and as a
result there will be no shift in power which re emphasizes the fact that the world order is not changing.
In conclusion, I have argued that the world order is not changing. In order to prove this, I have first
established that in terms of hard power (militarily and economically) the US is the more dominant
power and as a result there appears to be no power shift. Furthermore, I have shown that even in terms
of soft power (using foreign aid and foreign policy) the US still scores ahead of China, once again
indicating no signs of a power

George Orwell Beliefs

Orwell s personal background and strong beliefs about politics, religion, and his exposure to many

Importance Of Language In The Duchess Of Malfi
The passage to be studied is from Act 3, scene1, from the play, The Duchess of Malfi . The importance
of this passage, and where it fits into the play, is explained in the first paragraph. The following
paragraph will highlight some of the distinctive features of its language, starting with the beginning of
the passage and comparing it to the end of the passage. The analysis of the text will cover rhythm,
sounds, punctuation, repetition, alliteration, enjambment and caesura. Using these techniques Webster
helps the reader to extract meaning, characterisation and the themes of the play. Finally, the third
paragraph will show how the distinctive features of the language can be translated into performance
using lighting, tone of voice, props, costume, sound and space. The language used in the text of the
play is the source to its meaning and performance.
This scene is important as it comes midway into the play, marking a turning point, that drives the
action towards the tragic end. The scene opens with all three characters relaxed and in a playful mood,
but there is an underlying tension that builds throughout the scene with an uneasy sense of insecurity,
which is felt by the Duchess as she is aware that her brother has returned to court. The tension
continues to increase, with the use of dramatic irony, where the audience is aware of information that
the actors on stage do not have. The atmosphere soon shifts from a light hearted one to one of fear.

The Importance Of Police Integrity In The Police
The world is full of crime and hate. When you think of criminal, an image pops in your head of
someone wearing bland clothing with a mask or a thug with gang tattoos. Some criminals are harder to
spot, like those who commit white collar crime. What happens when the police officers who are
supposed to enforce the law, are the actual criminals? During the 1990 s in Los Angeles, the Los
Angeles Police Department (LAPD) was full of police who were criminals. The Rampart incident is a
textbook example of how criminal activity can be found even in the law enforcement branch of our
society. To get a better understanding what police corruption is, one must understand the importance
of the police having integrity. Integrity means that a person is honest and has strong moral and will do
the right thing. For the police department in a community to have integrity, it means that there is little
or no misconduct by police officers and the office follow the Police Code of Ethics. The level of
integrity within each police department depends on how the department is managed, which then
dictates how officers act toward the community, and how the officers acts determines how the public
views the integrity of the police. (Police Integrity)
When police departments do not have integrity it is called police corruption. For corruption, three
distinct elements must be present, 1) miss use of authority, 2) miss use of official capacity, and 3) miss
use of personal attainment (Dantzker, 1995).

A Brief Note On Cross Culture Of India
Somewhere culture defines the way of living of people of that area. Therefore I selected this topic of
cross culture of India because the India a huge populated country and there are different religions in
this country. Besides this I think we should have the knowledge about the other country cultures there
languages how they like to live because in this world we can meet any one in any situations. That s
why it s necessary for us to have knowledge about the cultures of the other country there people, there
style of living, festivals, education systems, cuisines, weddings and the most important one their
languages. India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. The culture of India varies from place
to place within the country. The Indian culture is the combination of several different cultures. Indian
culture is specifically based on the religions there are several different religions belonging to same
country. Basically they have the same religion but they have divided themselves into various sub
groups for example Brahmans and others. Moreover, there are several more religions living there as
the minority such as Islam (14.2%), Christianity (2.3%), Sikhism (1.7%), Buddhism (0.2%), Jainism

The role of an economy is to effectively make use of a countries resources, thus increasing economic
performance. If economic performance of a country was at a maximum, then the country would have
substantial wealth and therefore purchasing power, which would be available to spend on allocated

Any text that is composed is written to fit into the society that it is written for. A genre must evolve
and modernise itself to remain relevant and interesting to the target audience. In The Black Cat by
Edgar Allen Poe and Dracula by Bram Stoker, the composers have both adapted their stories to appeal
the people of their time.
Dracula by Bram Stoker used many of the conventions of the gothic genre to appeal to the Victorian
Society. Stoker used the style of the novel, his characters and the tone to create an enticing text based
on the beliefs of the novel s era.

The nails were long and fine, and cut to a sharp point. Upon Jonathon staring out the window, he

Count Dracula brings back a small child to feed to the female vampires, which is the most barbaric
deed that any character could do in a gothic novel. To lose a child was the greatest fear of many
Victorian women, making this crime a truly abominable one.
The many gothic conventions in Dracula played to the morals of the Victorian era to make it both
controversial and acceptable, giving the novel the success it deserved. In comparison, the story The
Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe modernized the gothic genre even further to adapt it to the audience of
the early 19th century. The composer used the questionable sanity of his character and the overtly
violent acts committed by this character, to create an evil that was not embodied as a supernatural
creature, but as a man. He created an idea of the perverse nature of humans to create an evil that was
truly terrifying.
In The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator of the story starts to question his own sanity, though
instead of taking responsibility for his own actions he shifted the blame onto the

Early Literacy Experiences
A brain is a wonderful thing to have. Why waste it? Well, research shows that reading makes you
smarter. Although you may not notice but you read every day. From little things like a stop sign to a
chapter book or your homework. Reading has an effect on your grades and your IQ. Scientist have
proven on different test subjects or even identical twins that the ones who don t read that often have a
lower grade level then the person who does read often.
According to Teach Reading early, In the first six years, children learn at a much faster pace than at

The Factors Of Air Resistance And Frictivity
Air resistance is the frictional force that an object has on air. Friction is resistance of an object s
surface. The amount of air resistance an object has is reflected on the speed of the object that has been
dropped. Weight does not affect how fast an object falls. A plastic bag weighs about 5.5 grams. A
piece of printer paper weighs about 4.5 grams. A handkerchief weighs about 3 ounces per square yard.
Gravity drops all objects in the same was regardless of their mass or build structure
(kidsdiscover.com). Gravity is the force pulling down an object that comes in the way. Acceleration is
the change of speed or direction. The amount of mass something has is its weight which determines
the amount of a downward gravity force it experiences. A falling object will continue to accelerate
until air resistance force becomes more to balance the force that s bringing the object
(physicsclassroom.com). Isaac Newton s 1st law of motion; an object has to stay in place unless it
comes in contact with another object which causes force or a push for the objects to start to move. An
object at rest stays in place unless a force is brought to it. 2nd law; force equals mass times
acceleration (F=ma). 3rd law; every action has the same opposite reaction towards the first action.
Generally increasing temperature lowers the density and viscosity, so it decreases the air resistance
(Qoura.com). Handkerchiefs can be made out of any materials such as cotton, cotton synthetic blend,

Antisemitism In The Holocaust
In contemporary society holocaust literature is considered rudimentary by intellectuals, to
continuously remind young scholars about the Third Reich and Nazi crimes against Jews. Deep
reflection allows one to understand the desperation driving the nation in their pursuit of worldwide
domination. The serious nature associated with Holocaust causes the authors to be weary as not to
lower standards by creating a pulp fiction narrative. The authors strive to positively compound the
subject s potential, and gain momentum toward standards in integrity. Therefore, these authors choose
not to resort to secularism, deriving inspiration from Jewish culture and religion. For the sake of the
reader, the balance lies at maintaining respect for self and ancestors, while also keeping audience
interest. These authors burdened themselves with the survival of a people. At the core of antisemitism
is the denial of Jewish history, and especially the holocaust. Modern anti Semitism isn t based on
religion, but on the theory that Jews are an inferior race. These ideas derive from the Enlightenment
period (17th 18th century) in Europe. The same ideals that motivated the German sponsored holocaust
of the 20th century.
The problem of how to tell the survivor s story through narrative raises the question of how can you
tell the story of a survivor whose people have been oppressed throughout history, and are still
oppressed to this date? A more abstract antithesis can be how to tell the victims

Differences Between Horror And Horror Movies
One can find it challenging to discern a thriller from a horror movie; however, close examination
shows that these genres in their purest forms have diverse elements that differentiate the two. Horror
movies and thriller movies can share common traits. Horror movies can give the audience a sense of
thrill, and a thriller movie can horrify the audience. Both genres rely on the fight or flight situational
effects. In the first or possibly even second act of the movie, the characters are attempting to flee the
problem, but are eventually forced into engaging with it. How these characters react with the problem
is where the two genres start to deviate. One clear way to spot the differences between the two genres
has to do with the protagonists. Although characters each deal with the antagonist/antagonist s plan,
the disparity is in how they respond to it. As described by script editor Lucy Hay:
In Horror, characters frequently make active decisions that take them directly into the monster s literal
or metaphorical lair. In contrast, a thriller protagonist is frequently drawn against his/her will into the
antagonist s evil plan. In other words, the antagonist drives the action in the Thriller genre; the
protagonist is generally unsuspecting and would have lived a normal life had the antagonist not kicked
everything off. (Hay)
All horror movies must have a fantasy related aspect to them. To be pure horror, the purpose of the
story must be to invoke fear and dread and it

The Inhumanity Of Animal Testing
Would you like to see animals suffer everyday because of a lab test? Just imagine seeing pictures and
videos of harmless animals being tested and tortured for human benefits. A research by Cruelty Free
International and Dr. Hadwen Trust estimates about 115 million animals are being used in experiments
all around the world each year. Animal testing should be prohibited and not be used for research. The
reasons are that the method of animal testing is very cruel and inhumane. Also most experiments that
scientists conduct, do not work and the life of an animal is wasted.
The method of using animals for lab testing is very cruel and inhumane. Studies show that when an
animal is in a laboratory, it feels lonely, trapped, isolated, and the animal is in complete misery. One
shocking fact is that the U.S law allows animals to be tortured and killed. They allow scientists to do
whatever they want to the animal to reach their goal. The scientists force the animals to drink
chemicals and many other things that can be harmful to them and that later ends up damaging many
parts of the animal s body. Even after the animals endure all the pain, they get put back into their cage
without having anything to stop the pain. Many animals are in danger of losing their lives due to the
cruelty and inhumanity of animal testing in labs.
Most of these experiments performed on animals do not work and their life is wasted. Dr. Michael
Bracken, professor of epidemiology at Yale University s School of

Work Interest Assessment Essay
After taking the three assessments about my work interest, leisure interest, and the 16 personalities. I
learned many things about myself. Majority of assessments are aligned up with each other and said
what I expected them to.
The work interest assessment was unlike any assessment I have ever taken. After taking the
assessment I got the code of SEI which stands for social, enterprising, and investigative. During the
class, I guess that I was a social, enterprising and realistic. I was close to my guest but not exactly
right. Looking at the graph from The assessment it shows that I am almost at 100 in the social
category. Social is explained as the helpers they enjoy working with others. It also says they are highly
verbal and expressive. I think this explains my personality perfectly. The next interest area in the code
is enterprising the persuaders . The people in this category enjoys influencing others and are often
competitive with activities. They are also self confident, talkative and energetic. I would also explain
myself like this. In enterprising people often prefer activity selling and promoting. Which I do not
enjoy doing (I probably like doing this less than swimming and you know I REALLY don t like
swimming!). The last category that the test put me in was investigated. I would agree that I do prefer
science and math and enjoy having minimal supervision which are all different aspects of the
investigative category. But I also would disagree with them saying

Violation Of Nonverbal Communication Violations
This week I decided the behavior I d choose to violate would be physical appearance and space. I
decided on violating these specifically because I felt like these specific nonverbal communication
behaviors would generate the most amounts of different reactions from those around me. I also took
this as a bit of a challenge for myself as I see myself as someone who is very aware of my physical
appearance at all times as well as respectful with it comes to others personal space, so breaking two of
my own nonverbal behavior rules would be something different and out of character for me. My first
violation was Tuesday morning, I work in the biology department at FIU, so I am always expected to
look at least business casual and have your hair nicely done, which usually I ironed mine. This
particular day I walked into work wearing sweatpants, a baggy T shirt, and some old gym shoes I ve
owned for a few years that were filthy and worn out, my hair was even in its natural afro like curly
mess. Giving a massage that I did not care nor did I want to be there, my supervisor got the message
loud and clear. Since I was not dressed correctly I was told to put on a giant lab coat to cover up my
clothing. When my coworker showed up he thought I looked comfortable and didn t care whether I
was dressed in business casual or not! He wasn t the only one who didn t have a problem with my

Who Motivates Odysseus Analysis
Who motivates Odysseus?
Motivation is defined as having a strong reason to act or accomplish something. This reason to act
could be a variety of things. The motivation one receives can also come in many forms. For some, the
act for themselves; others act for someone else. Still others receive their motivation from another who
has complete faith in them to accomplish their task. In the epic poem The Odyssey, by the Greek poet
Homer, the main character, Odysseus, is motivated to return home by the courage he receives from the
goddess, Athena.
The first instance the reader encounters the wise goddess, Athena, helping Odysseus, she is advocating
to the gods for his return home. Athena pleads to Zeus, in hopes that Odysseus will be able to ... Show

Poseidon is the only god who does not like Odysseus, because he harmed his son. Athena did not let
Poseidon s wrath overcome Odysseus. Instead, she calms the winds and takes Odysseus to safety on
the island of Phaeacia. Without her help, Odysseus would have never safely landed on the shores
Phaeacia.
The goddess of wisdom disguises Odysseus, in order that he might pass through the city of Phaeacia,
safely unseen. Pallas Athena, harboring kindness for the hero, drafted a heavy mist around him,
shielding him from any swaggering islander who crossed his path, provoked him with taunts and
search out who he was (7.16 19). The Phaeacians are known for being very prideful in themselves and
believing that they were better than most. This cloud of mist Athena gives Odysseus keeps him from
being noticed and questioned by the townspeople.
Athena also disguises Odysseus into a beggar when he finally reached Ithaca s shores, so that none
know that he has made the journey home until the time is right.

Cargador De Flores
A man struggles, unable to rise to his feet. A woman toils, unable to support her companion. A basket
of fuchsia torments, unable to consider its damage. A society discriminates, unable to give its workers
equality. In his painting Cargador de Flores, Diego Rivera denounces subjugation by portraying two
commoners struggling to survive. Rivera employs these workers as a representation of the proletariat
class of Mexico, and by utilizing his illustration to depict the working people of his country, he applies
this artwork to exhibit the efforts of the Mexican laborer. Furthermore, the artist contrasts the
blossoms with the workers who bear their weight. The florets radiate with a rich coral and gold

Never before have I seen such bleak poverty define a community. I see oppression in one man s eyes,
desperation in another s. As I observe these emotions, I feel an anguish more powerful than anything I

I look around the slum for something to distract myself from this sorrow. My eyes settle on an ornate
rug hanging outside a specialty market. It s similar to a tapestry that sits in our dining room. I move to
point out the comparison to my mother, but my voice is locked in my throat by an appalling scene: a
child with bloodied, bruised hands hangs another rug on the rack before returning to the shop.
Anger boils within my veins. I realize that this child, no older than me, will likely spend the rest of her
life toiling in this neighborhood; she will forever be servile to society s demands. It strikes me that the
shortcomings that compelled Rivera to create Cargador de Flores still exist in our world; the disregard
for the workers in the painting seems to emerge even in modern times. Disillusioned by this fact, I let
my face fall into my hands.
A few minutes later, my mother asks about my silence. Mom, there s so much hardship in this

while building one of them. The structure types can be arch, beam, truss, suspension and cable stayed.
Among this diversity of designs, two important bridges of the United States are the already
constructed Mike O Callaghan Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, which is an arch bridge that connects
Nevada and Arizona above the Colorado River; and the St. Anthony Parkway Bridge, which is a truss

Hecox (2011) says that the arch structure of the Tillman Bridge makes the canyon walls hold the
weight of both vehicles and the bridge itself. In addition, the arch structure allows a better vision of

other hand, according to Jones (2015), the truss structure of the new St. Anthony Bridge also was
requested by the population because they wanted to keep a truss bridge in that place. The author also
affirms that the St. Anthony Bridge is a truss, but the project team proposed adding a posttensioned
concrete bottom chord to the steel truss in order to reinforce it. The project team made this choice
because one bridge in Minnesota has collapsed in 2007, and the engineers wanted to lessen the
fracture critical issues to avoid a new catastrophe. In addition, this posttensioning approach wiil make

First Artificial Heart Transplant
The First Artificial Heart Transplant Elon Musk, an inventor, once said, If something is important
enough you should try, even if the probable outcome is failure. In the medical world, doctors have to
be satisfied with their outcomes, no matter the circumstance. After they research a new topic and
establish a base for a new invention, they work hard in order to make it perfect before using it in a
human body. The doctors make many improvements to their invention and test it in every possible
situation. Following the tests, the doctors will implant their invention into a human body for the first
time. They do not know if there will be any complications during this surgery or if it will be a success,
but they have to live with the initial result and improve on it for future transplants. For example, the
first artificial heart transplant was a surprising success, but the surgery had several complications,
which led to improvements on all artificial hearts. In 1982, the first artificial heart called the Jarvik 7
was implanted into a human body. The recipient of this heart was a sixty one year old man, ... Show

remove the artificial heart and put in the real one. This decreased the mortality rate. The only downfall
was that for people in the same situation as Clark, being too old for a heart transplant, would not

Affluenz The All Consuming Epidemic By John De Graaf
Affluenza is defined as the need to consume and pursuit a high status in society. In the book
Affluenza: The All Consuming Epidemic by John de Graaf, David Wann, and Thomas H. Naylor, the
authors explain affluenza, and how it causes overwork, personal stress, the erosion of family and
community, high debt, and the growing dissatisfaction for current living. A large contributor to
affluenza is advertisement, a tactic that encourages over consumption by purchasing items irrationally.
The sports industry has been taken over by advertisement, allowing corporations to take full advantage
of the satisfaction that sports entertainment brings to the fans.
The Super Bowl, an annual championship game of the National Football League between the two best
teams, one from the AFC and NFC division. This needs to be explained because most would see the
Super Bowl as a time slot for entertaining commercials and an ad sponsored halftime show. According
to Affluenza thirty second slots during the Super Bowl have sold for much as $1.6 million each (155).
Of course this book is out dated, so the number has increased throughout the years. The idea is still
same; companies spend a fortune to buy all possible ad space. The reason, the Super Bowl, frequently
is the most watched American televised broadcast of the year. Companies will continue to find ways to
fit ads into the Super Bowl by taking bits and pieces away from the game. Examples like the pre

  • 2. Environmental Pollution To Save The Environment Whether individuals choose to believe in it or not, environmental destruction is a very real and apparent social problem that needs to be addressed before it is too late to save the Earth. Numerous factors such as the climate change, disposal of waste, deforestation, and the quality of air and water impact the destruction of our world. The majority of the blame for our Earth s deterioration falls on the human race, however, some of the blame does fall on industries, that for example may improperly dispose of their waste. Because of the actions and behaviors of humans as a whole, the environment is suffering irreversible damage. The small population of people that do advocate for change or engage in environment friendly activities is not enough to help fix the environment alone. Drastic changes need to start being made if the human race wants a chance at saving our environment. This change is urgent because problems are not linear. If you inflict enough damage, you ve shifted the planet into a whole new state and the damage spirals out of control (1). Examples of this detrimental damage are demonstrated in The Guardian news article, Humans have destroyed a tenth of Earth s wilderness in 25 years study, where the effects of deforestation are focused on. By invading the wilderness, many animals habitats are disrupted, consequently putting them in danger of becoming extinct. Once this habitat is disturbed and destroyed, it is officially gone and cannot be restored. Humans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Debate Over Abortion On Abortion Essay So long as political debate has existed in America, there has been a strong tension between the ideologies of conservatism and liberalism. While there are numerous differences between the two ideologies, the core of each is expressed clearly through the modern debate of abortion. The vision, ideals, and assumptions of each ideology can be identified through the way in which each ideology argues its position on abortion. The debate over abortion has been taking place since the 19th century. Abortions were legal until the mid 1800s when states began to outlaw them. When the Roe vs Wade decision was made in 1973, laws affecting abortions existed in 46 states. This Supreme Court decision affirmed the right for women to have abortions. While the decision was made over forty years ago, the public debate is as fierce as ever. A popular political action within the anti abortion movement is to protest outside of Planned Parenthood facilities. Planned Parenthood is a non profit organization which provides reproductive planning and services to women. Anti abortion activists have targeted Planned Parenthood because a small percentage of their services include abortion. As a result of the protests, as well as outrage caused by hidden video from inside a Planned Parenthood center, several states have defunded the organization. It should be noted that government money is not used at Planned Parenthood to conduct abortions. There are two main viewpoints on the issue of abortion. Most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Work bullies or co workers who make life miserable for you can also be a cause of workplace stress. • 5. Liberal Arts Education In Plato s The Allegory Of The Cave Patrick Awuah, the founder of Ashesi University, explains that the purpose of a liberal arts college is to educate free men and woman to become leaders. Ashei was the first non profit liberal arts college in West Africa. Patrick saw the need for a liberal arts education because he felt that the current leaders of Africa did not have the creative thinking skills necessary to fix the problems threatening Africa. He believed that a liberal arts education teaches students how to confront complex problems and create new and important ideas. The key trait of a liberal arts education is that it teaches students how to think creatively and allows them space to develop their own thinking skills, it creates a good balance between societal and scientific knowledge. new sentence/rephrase The Skidmore College Mission Statement emphasizes the importance of a never ending quest for knowledge . This outlines one key part of a liberal arts education, the understanding that knowledge is limitless and there will always be more questions to ask. This idea is conveyed in Plato s The Allegory of the Cave, in this story, shadows on a wall represented the whole world to prisoners until one was enlightened and saw the real world. Until enlightenment, the prisoners had no way of knowing that they were looking at shadows their entire life, because we don t know about the knowledge that we have not yet discovered. In the same way, we don t know the answers to questions we have not thought of. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The operations process is one of the key business functions and is a crucial component to business success. Like every business, Qantas is affected by many internal and external influences requiring it to have effective strategies to respond to these influences. Businesses that are able to adopt and utilise effective operational strategies are able to quickly adapt and either reduce or take advantage of these influences that impact the business. The effectiveness of these strategies can measured by Qantas performance and whether or not it is able to hold it s competitive advantage. How well these strategies respond to the influences on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By outsourcing, Qantas is able to significantly reduce costs and maintain it s competitive advantage. However this advantage also has a draw back, hundreds of engineers have also been cut from their jobs and have had their jobs given to people overseas. This puts a bad reputation on the name of the business as an Australian business will cut jobs from Australian workers and supple foreign workers with jobs. Families and friends of these workers may feel resentment towards Qantas and choose to travel with another airline instead resulting in a loss of customers. This strategy has been effective in reducing cost but has resulted in a reduction of quality and safety and led to a decreased business reputation resulting in a loss of customers and stakeholders. Another strategy that Qantas has used to respond to globalisation is through product differentiation. Qantas maintained it s competitive advantage by providing a service which was unique and different to those of it s competitor. Qantas was known for having the best safety record of any airline in the world . The airline was also true blue Australian and was Australian owned. This made the business different and attracted customers towards Qantas giving it a competitive edge over it s foreign competition. Following the deregulation of Qantas, the business has started to lose sight of what it really was. The business has recently decided to implement another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Hip Hop Research Paper In the past thirty years, hip hop culture has grown from its respectful beginnings in the South Bronx section of New York City into an important and influential cultural movement. Created in the mid 1970s by poor Bronx residents with few resources, hip hop has become a billion dollar industry whose reach now stretches around the world. Hip hop has influenced the way people make music, the way they dance, and the way they wear their clothes. It has also shaped people s political views and turned many people into entrepreneurs. Hip hop culture includes four main components: rapping, DJing, graffiti art, and break dancing. At its start, hip hop was inspired by a change of other art forms, many of which still influence and inspire hip hop artists today. • 8. My Pain For Comfort Pain For Comfort I ve gone from house to house trying to find one to call home. I should call where i live home but home shouldn t make you want to run. Walking into the door of my house feels so forlorn and cold. Nothing there is ever happy and all the love has left along with the good memories. My only comfort now comes from the solitude of my room and the deafening sound of my music, desperately trying to drown out the shouts of anger and hate. No I m not saying my life is completely awful, I do have good moments but not as often as I do bad ones. A plethora amount of problems started with my mom and somehow moved its way towards my dad and then my siblings. • 9. Importance Of Workplace Democracy In The Workplace As Mahatma Ghandi once said: I understand democracy as something that gives the weak the same chance as the strong . A strong public demand, in the past two decades, for greater democracy and employees participation has been growing and management is being put under pressure to meet this demand in all sectors (Foley and Polanyi, 2006). In all political theories, one idea is never changing, democracy isn t only the democracy of the state institutions but it includes all organizations and enterprises of the society. The concept of workplace democracy was forgotten or actually neglected for so many years that now it is being revived again especially with Theresa May s speech. If we want to define workplace democracy in a very general way, it is the association of democratic policies and practices in the workplace. It is a way to realize self actualization, reach individual autonomy and freedom and it is the root of motivation to claim rights and participatory decision making (Pausch, 2013). For the liberal thinking, it constitutes of having a set of institutions and representatives that express and aggregate the voice of individual citizens. It is based on a majority rule. Individuals should, to a greater extent, be able to take control over their decisions and their workplace conditions that affect their life. For democracy to be a way of life at work, transparency is the first rule that should be applied as well as economic power. Employee participation in all ways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unrealistic Expectations In Saramago s Blindness Additionally, women all over the world are being subjected to cruelty by men and society because of the unrealistic expectations that society places on them. Unrealistic expectations expand from, expectations that are impossible to reach, to expecting too little from a person with potential for greatness. Women in today s society are expected to fulfill impossible tasks that no one person is capable of fulfilling, for example, women are expected to bare children and raise them to a certain standard and if they their children do not meet the standard then they are ridiculed and discriminated against. • 12. World Order Research Paper The world order, in general, refers to the economic, political or social state of affairs prevailing in the world at a given time and the corresponding effect this has on the different relationships countries have among each other. In this essay, I will argue that the world order is not in fact changing and that we are not witnessing a power shift from the West to the rest of the world. To prove this, I will analyse in terms of hard and soft power how the West is still the more dominant party. Firstly, I will compare the military and economic power of the US and China and come to the conclusion that the US is the more dominant power. Next, I will demonstrate how in terms of foreign policy and political power the US commands more soft power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It could, therefore, be argued that these increased political tensions may cause the US to lose key allies and in turn help China become the more favoured country. However, in recent times, China has proven to be arrogant, aggressive and rude when it comes to executing its foreign policy. Many countries, including Japan and India, claim to find it increasingly challenging to cooperate with China and this has done nothing but push said countries towards the US and cemented the US s global power. Therefore, it is clear that even in terms of soft power, the US scores much higher than China and as a result there will be no shift in power which re emphasizes the fact that the world order is not changing. In conclusion, I have argued that the world order is not changing. In order to prove this, I have first established that in terms of hard power (militarily and economically) the US is the more dominant power and as a result there appears to be no power shift. Furthermore, I have shown that even in terms of soft power (using foreign aid and foreign policy) the US still scores ahead of China, once again indicating no signs of a power ... • 17. The Importance Of Police Integrity In The Police The world is full of crime and hate. When you think of criminal, an image pops in your head of someone wearing bland clothing with a mask or a thug with gang tattoos. Some criminals are harder to spot, like those who commit white collar crime. What happens when the police officers who are supposed to enforce the law, are the actual criminals? During the 1990 s in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) was full of police who were criminals. The Rampart incident is a textbook example of how criminal activity can be found even in the law enforcement branch of our society. To get a better understanding what police corruption is, one must understand the importance of the police having integrity. Integrity means that a person is honest and has strong moral and will do the right thing. For the police department in a community to have integrity, it means that there is little or no misconduct by police officers and the office follow the Police Code of Ethics. The level of integrity within each police department depends on how the department is managed, which then dictates how officers act toward the community, and how the officers acts determines how the public views the integrity of the police. (Police Integrity) When police departments do not have integrity it is called police corruption. For corruption, three distinct elements must be present, 1) miss use of authority, 2) miss use of official capacity, and 3) miss use of personal attainment (Dantzker, 1995). ... The composer used the questionable sanity of his character and the overtly violent acts committed by this character, to create an evil that was not embodied as a supernatural creature, but as a man. The amount of air resistance an object has is reflected on the speed of the object that has been dropped. Weight does not affect how fast an object falls. A plastic bag weighs about 5.5 grams. A piece of printer paper weighs about 4.5 grams. A handkerchief weighs about 3 ounces per square yard. Gravity drops all objects in the same was regardless of their mass or build structure (kidsdiscover.com). Gravity is the force pulling down an object that comes in the way. Acceleration is the change of speed or direction. The amount of mass something has is its weight which determines the amount of a downward gravity force it experiences. A falling object will continue to accelerate until air resistance force becomes more to balance the force that s bringing the object (physicsclassroom.com). Antisemitism In The Holocaust In contemporary society holocaust literature is considered rudimentary by intellectuals, to continuously remind young scholars about the Third Reich and Nazi crimes against Jews. Deep reflection allows one to understand the desperation driving the nation in their pursuit of worldwide domination. The serious nature associated with Holocaust causes the authors to be weary as not to lower standards by creating a pulp fiction narrative. The authors strive to positively compound the subject s potential, and gain momentum toward standards in integrity. Therefore, these authors choose not to resort to secularism, deriving inspiration from Jewish culture and religion. For the sake of the reader, the balance lies at maintaining respect for self and ancestors, while also keeping audience interest. These authors burdened themselves with the survival of a people. At the core of antisemitism is the denial of Jewish history, and especially the holocaust. Modern anti Semitism isn t based on religion, but on the theory that Jews are an inferior race. These ideas derive from the Enlightenment period (17th 18th century) in Europe. The same ideals that motivated the German sponsored holocaust of the 20th century. • 26. Differences Between Horror And Horror Movies One can find it challenging to discern a thriller from a horror movie; however, close examination shows that these genres in their purest forms have diverse elements that differentiate the two. Horror movies and thriller movies can share common traits. Horror movies can give the audience a sense of thrill, and a thriller movie can horrify the audience. Both genres rely on the fight or flight situational effects. In the first or possibly even second act of the movie, the characters are attempting to flee the problem, but are eventually forced into engaging with it. How these characters react with the problem is where the two genres start to deviate. One clear way to spot the differences between the two genres has to do with the protagonists. Although characters each deal with the antagonist/antagonist s plan, the disparity is in how they respond to it. As described by script editor Lucy Hay: In Horror, characters frequently make active decisions that take them directly into the monster s literal or metaphorical lair. In contrast, a thriller protagonist is frequently drawn against his/her will into the antagonist s evil plan. In other words, the antagonist drives the action in the Thriller genre; the protagonist is generally unsuspecting and would have lived a normal life had the antagonist not kicked everything off. Studies show that when an animal is in a laboratory, it feels lonely, trapped, isolated, and the animal is in complete misery. Giving a massage that I did not care nor did I want to be there, my supervisor got the message loud and clear. Since I was not dressed correctly I was told to put on a giant lab coat to cover up my clothing. When my coworker showed up he thought I looked comfortable and didn t care whether I was dressed in business casual or not! He wasn t the only one who didn t have a problem with my outfit; the other teaching assistants (TA s) kept telling me how envious they were of my very casual and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The motivation one receives can also come in many forms. For some, the act for themselves; others act for someone else. Still others receive their motivation from another who has complete faith in them to accomplish their task. Athena did not let Poseidon s wrath overcome Odysseus. Instead, she calms the winds and takes Odysseus to safety on the island of Phaeacia. Without her help, Odysseus would have never safely landed on the shores Phaeacia. The goddess of wisdom disguises Odysseus, in order that he might pass through the city of Phaeacia, safely unseen. Pallas Athena, harboring kindness for the hero, drafted a heavy mist around him, shielding him from any swaggering islander who crossed his path, provoked him with taunts and search out who he was (7.16 19). The Phaeacians are known for being very prideful in themselves and believing that they were better than most. This cloud of mist Athena gives Odysseus keeps him from being noticed and questioned by the townspeople. Athena also disguises Odysseus into a beggar when he finally reached Ithaca s shores, so that none know that he has made the journey home until the time is right. A society discriminates, unable to give its workers equality. In his painting Cargador de Flores, Diego Rivera denounces subjugation by portraying two commoners struggling to survive. Rivera employs these workers as a representation of the proletariat class of Mexico, and by utilizing his illustration to depict the working people of his country, he applies this artwork to exhibit the efforts of the Mexican laborer. Furthermore, the artist contrasts the blossoms with the workers who bear their weight. The florets radiate with a rich coral and gold arrangement, and the container weaves with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Never before have I seen such bleak poverty define a community. I see oppression in one man s eyes, desperation in another s. As I observe these emotions, I feel an anguish more powerful than anything I ve ever experienced. I look around the slum for something to distract myself from this sorrow. My eyes settle on an ornate rug hanging outside a specialty market. It s similar to a tapestry that sits in our dining room. I move to point out the comparison to my mother, but my voice is locked in my throat by an appalling scene: a child with bloodied, bruised hands hangs another rug on the rack before returning to the shop. Anger boils within my veins. I realize that this child, no older than me, will likely spend the rest of her life toiling in this neighborhood; she will forever be servile to society s demands. It strikes me that the shortcomings that compelled Rivera to create Cargador de Flores still exist in our world; the disregard for the workers in the painting seems to emerge even in modern times. Disillusioned by this fact, I let my face fall into my hands. A few minutes later, my mother asks about my silence. Mom, there s so much hardship in this neighborhood, I ... Hecox (2011) says that the arch structure of the Tillman Bridge makes the canyon walls hold the weight of both vehicles and the bridge itself. In addition, the arch structure allows a better vision of the canyon for the drivers, which was a request of the population to the engineers of the project. In the other hand, according to Jones (2015), the truss structure of the new St. Anthony Bridge also was requested by the population because they wanted to keep a truss bridge in that place. The author also affirms that the St. Anthony Bridge is a truss, but the project team proposed adding a posttensioned concrete bottom chord to the steel truss in order to reinforce it. The project team made this choice because one bridge in Minnesota has collapsed in 2007, and the engineers wanted to lessen the fracture critical issues to avoid a new catastrophe. In addition, this posttensioning approach wiil make the structure redundant for both resiliency and long term durability. In conclusion, both bridge s structures were right chosen in order to provide safety and beauty in both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. First Artificial Heart Transplant The First Artificial Heart Transplant Elon Musk, an inventor, once said, If something is important enough you should try, even if the probable outcome is failure. In the medical world, doctors have to be satisfied with their outcomes, no matter the circumstance. After they research a new topic and establish a base for a new invention, they work hard in order to make it perfect before using it in a human body. The doctors make many improvements to their invention and test it in every possible situation. Following the tests, the doctors will implant their invention into a human body for the first time. They do not know if there will be any complications during this surgery or if it will be a success, but they have to live with the initial result and improve on it for future transplants. For example, the first artificial heart transplant was a surprising success, but the surgery had several complications, which led to improvements on all artificial hearts. In 1982, the first artificial heart called the Jarvik 7 was implanted into a human body. The recipient of this heart was a sixty one year old man, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They agreed that it would only be used to bridge patients ( Robert Jarvik, MD on the Jarvik 7 ). The patients would receive the Jarvik 7 until a transplant heart became available. They would then remove the artificial heart and put in the real one. This decreased the mortality rate. The only downfall was that for people in the same situation as Clark, being too old for a heart transplant, would not benefit from this discovery. As a result, a new artificial heart was ... • 38. Affluenz The All Consuming Epidemic By John De Graaf Affluenza is defined as the need to consume and pursuit a high status in society. In the book Affluenza: The All Consuming Epidemic by John de Graaf, David Wann, and Thomas H. Naylor, the authors explain affluenza, and how it causes overwork, personal stress, the erosion of family and community, high debt, and the growing dissatisfaction for current living. A large contributor to affluenza is advertisement, a tactic that encourages over consumption by purchasing items irrationally. The sports industry has been taken over by advertisement, allowing corporations to take full advantage of the satisfaction that sports entertainment brings to the fans. The Super Bowl, an annual championship game of the National Football League between the two best teams, one from the AFC and NFC division. This needs to be explained because most would see the Super Bowl as a time slot for entertaining commercials and an ad sponsored halftime show. According to Affluenza thirty second slots during the Super Bowl have sold for much as $1.6 million each (155). Of course this book is out dated, so the number has increased throughout the years. The idea is still same; companies spend a fortune to buy all possible ad space. The reason, the Super Bowl, frequently is the most watched American televised broadcast of the year. Companies will continue to find ways to fit ads into the Super Bowl by taking bits and pieces away from the game. Examples like the pre game, halftime and post game shows, the ...
