Patrice Lumumba’s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism Essay
Patrice Lumumba s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism
It is hard to believe that in 2002 there is still imperialism being practiced in the world, but the fact of
the matter is, it is. Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation s territory or power by establishing
dominance over other nations. A modern example of imperialism is the Congo.
At the 1885 Berlin Conference, where the European powers carved up most of Africa among
themselves, they sanctioned the claim of Belgian King Leopold II to sole authority over the Congo, a
land mass 75 times the area of Belgium. The Congo was virtually his private property. He wiped out
some 10 million people, around half the population, in his determination to extract every ... Show

However, Lumumba s intentions became clear from his Independence Day speech. He said,
We have known sarcasm and insults, endured blows morning, noon and night because we were
niggers ... We have seen our lands despoiled under the terms of what was supposedly the law of the
lad but which only recognised the right of the strongest. We have seen that this law was quite different
for a white than for a black: accommodating for the former, cruel and inhuman for the latter.
It is evident from this excerpt that Lumumba s Congo would not be one where the Belgians could
remain in complete control.
The imperialist powers, led by Washington together with Brussels, undertook a series of operations
designed to undermine the new Lumumba led government. Less than two weeks after Congo s
independence, the former Belgian rulers succeeded in organizing a secessionist movement in the
province of Katanga, where U.S. and European companies had vast mineral holdings. On July 11,
1960, Moise Tshombe, a wealthy businessman and leader of the UCOL party who bitterly opposed
Lumumba, declared Katanga s separation from the Congo. UCOL originally stood for the Union for
Colonization but then was later changed to the Union for the Collaboration of the Middle Classes in
Katanga due to the feverish anti colonial spirit in the Congo. Brussels sent 10,000 troops to Katanga to

Intellect By Ralph Waldo Emerson Poem
Often regarded as the leader of the Transcendentalist literary movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson
believed that the individual must look inward to find truth and knowledge. He emphatically stressed
that one must practice self reliance: the ability to trust one s intuition and not conform to societal
standards. Through the use of strict form, powerful imagery, and a wise tone, Emerson s poem
Intellect urges us to stay true to ourselves by refusing the practice of blind obedience. The form of
Intellect is comprised of just six lines which suggests a call to action for the reader to listen to his wise
words. The short form produces a riddle like tone; it follows a strict rhyme scheme and a very strong
rhythm. The lines are end rhymed this, coupled with the length of the poem produces an almost child
like simplicity. The morals hidden in Intellect aren t simple per se, nevertheless we are reminded of
the riddles of our primary school days; we remember the catchy rhythm and traditional morals we
learned from these riddles. The rhythm and meter are also vital aspects of this poem s structure: each
line contains seven syllables and begins with a stressed syllable. This didactic rhythm jumps out of the
page at the reader, causing us to pay attention. The stressed and unstressed syllable pattern produces a
sing song effect; the poem beckons us to listen to the wise counsel of Emerson with a child like
openness and implores the reader to find the moral that Emerson is trying to get across. The imagery
of Intellect is challenging: the poem features a fountain, a wave, the shore, and wings all in just six
lines. This abstract imagery allows us to tap into our own intellect and it leaves room for the reader to
interpret its meaning. Let us contemplate the fountain first. A fountain is often used to symbolise the
source for something desirable: whether it be a drinking fountain, a fountain of youth, or the fountain
of life we come across in Christian doctrine. Often times we crave rules; or we might just crave
direction or someone to tell us what to do. Unfortunately, the source of these rules is often society. We
choose to listen to the voice of society for direction, instead of turning inward. Perhaps by writing

Opinion Poll Essay
Another factor to note is the influence of opinion polls. Parties that gain popular support during
campaigns may have benefited from the bandwagon effect , (Kay, 1997). Some undecided voters may
look at opinion polls, and other polling data to decide where the political parties stand relative to each
other. The various opinion polls conducted seem to indicate that Alberta was to be an NDP province as
the campaign neared its later stages. There were several pre election polls conducted in the province
that showed the roughly even amount of support between all three parties. However, the Progressive
Conservative s did hold an early lead at the start of the campaign, leading some to believe that they
would be re elected. As the campaign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Jim Prentice unsuccessfully attempted to convince the Albertans on the importance of
such economic blueprint. The early election call made it possible for the NDP to take an advantage of
an unpopular budget.
By calling an early election, Jim Prentice was trying to take advantage of the political environment.
The PC government were facing a declining approval rate and Jim Prentice had hoped that an early
election would provide his government with a new mandate and more years in power. Yet, voters were
tired of the PC s budget deficits and lack of vision, and scandals, which provided the NDP the
opportunity to offer voters an alternative solution, (Leeson, 2015). These events made the NDP s
appear even more attractive to voters as a new approach to governing.
Leadership
The image of Jim Prentice has been mentioned on most occasions as a reason why Albertans withdrew
their support from the long governing PCs. The then government led by Mr. Prentice had received
poor reputation and this led to the defeat of his government. Jim Prentice was seen as an elite that was
out of touch with the common, everyday Albertan, (Sayers and Stewart, 2016). As a result of this,
many voters defected from the PC party and supported other options instead. This was an adequate
indication that the party was losing its popularity while NDP was gaining. Also, the New Democratic
Party accused the incumbent government of Jim Prentice of poor fiscal policy due to his

My Brother s Life
I couldn t believe it when the tomato red rental car pulled into our gravel driveway. He s here, I
shouted, racing outside to welcome my nephew who had driven across the country to visit us.
After greeting him with hugs, we watched as Evan s eyes took in our cabin, nestled in the woods. So
this is White Pines, he said. At that moment I wished I could crawl inside Evan s head and see what
his first impressions were.
If I were a betting woman, I d bet my life that curiosity had forced my nephew into visiting. We d
invited my brother s family for a visit several times over the years, but they had never come.
Eventually our families had grown up. But as my sons and their cousins stayed in touch, their cousins
seemed curious about the kind of lifestyle we led snuggled in the mountains. I believe Evan finally
had to check it out for himself before life s obligations made it impossible.
Not only had my children and their cousins grown up on different sides of the country, but world s
apart when it came to lifestyles. My brother led a traditional life, which offered a beautiful home, the
latest clothing styles, and security; while our family had chosen a meager lifestyle, unlike anything my
brother s kids could imagine.
And while two of our kids had left the nest and blessed us with grandchildren, we felt honored that
two of our adult children shared our home. They worked and slept in the attic, while my husband and I

Link Between Autism And Vaccinations
No Link Found between Autism and Vaccinations
The purpose of report is to explore the possible link between the development of Autism or Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and vaccinations containing thimerosal. Around the world, there is a
debate over the administration of the mumps, measles, and rubella (MMR) vaccination due to the use
of the preserver, Thimerasol. Thimerasol s use is controversial to the fact that the compound contains
the toxic chemical element, mercury (Hg). In 1999, the Center for Disease Control and the American
Academy of Pediatrics pushed the FDA for the removal of mercury from vaccinations administered to
children under the age of six. Although this measure was only of a cautionary nature, it led to many

They state that their subsequent spread into the general population poses concerns for public safety.
They go on to state that they compiled studies that examined the relationship between the MMR
vaccination and the post administration development of Autism or the spectrum disorders. The
information that they extracted consists of the study characteristics, methods, and outcomes. They
finally state that they found no relationship, of any kind.
The first section in the methods section describes the protocol to be followed. In order to find
appropriate studies for the meta analysis, Taylor and Swerdfeger, examined articles from Medline,
Pubmed, Embase, and Google Scholar using the guidelines outlined by the Preferred Reporting Items
for Systematic Review and Analysis (PRISMA) and independently assessed the risk of bias using the
Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS). Eslick then reviewed the articles. Following this, Taylor manually
extracted the study design, the country of completion, sample sizes, interventions, outcome measures,
and measures of effect from the articles. All literature had to be published and there was no language
restriction on the studies,
The second section details the eligibility requirements for the analysis. The first criterion of which was
that the publications included cohort and case control studies that looked at the prospective

Education Reform in American Schools Essay
Education Reform in American Schools
Frederick Douglass was, and still is, a golden example of why education is so important to a human
being s life. Douglass spent the first part of his life in ignorance. However, his life of a seemingly
endless servitude and ignorance was completely shattered by the fact that he learned to read. Once he
learned to read, his life was forever changed. He escaped slavery and tyranny and became an icon
even to this day.
Douglass s story more than adequately shows that a quality education is perhaps the most important
thing a person can receive in their life. Without his education, he would not have realized the shame
and inadequacy his slavery, and unfortunate acceptance of that slavery, held him ... Show more content

Interest groups, who are more interested in preserving their values as opposed to maintaining an
exceptional education (Christian fundamentalists, for instance), that control some communities, can
completely destroy any opportunity for a young mind to learn. The politics of racial injustice are
hopefully completely gone, but we re still living through a state where the races feel as though they
are still there. Of course, from my perspective (the perceived subjugator), it is easy to claim the
politics are not there. From the perspective of those who believe they are being subjugated, it is even
easier to say it is there. They feel it.
The second problem, and possibly the most important, is a question of interest.
Are schools really condusive to American youth to learn in a stumulating way? I don t believe so.
Pubescent students are almost incapable of true learning because their minds are clouded by a
hormonal fog for an enormous part of their lives. They walk around the schools nearly humming and
buzzing with new and exciting thoughts they are just beginning to understand. Once those hormones
have calmed and the student feels they can control them a little, there is still no difference in the way
they are taught. Nearly every school is the same (Wood 9). The students go to class around eight in the
morning and come home around three in the afternoon. If a student is old enough, that student will

Gang Injunction
This week s reading was a chapter from the book Police, Power, and the Product of Racial Boundaries
by Ana Muniz analyzed the function and outcomes of gang injunctions, specifically the Glendale
Corridor Gang Injunction. From what I understood, gang injunctions were used as a modern peculiar
institution that reestablished the definition of race and normalized forms of racial inequality to fit their
societal needs. Society s wishes to gentrify lead to the displacement of certain people of color and
justified the use of violence against individuals through police action. This is similar to slavery and the
separation between white and black to justify the use of violence and dehumanization by reducing
African Americans to objects of labor when

the spectrum, concluded the six distinctive colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.1,5
These spectrum colors have been noted as constants of color that measure luminosity, chroma, and
wavelength.5 Wavelengths, in the range of 400 750 nm, have been ascertained by the absorbance
spectrum due to the way for which light is absorbed by a compound, such as food dyes, and how the
observed color tends to complement the absorbed color, i.e. red paired with green, orange with blue,

Each sample was tested against water, which was carefully calibrated. Furthermore, to determine the
concentration of the food dye found within a beverage sample, the ingredients label from the beverage
container was read and used to determine which food dye was present within the sample.
Subsequently, 50 mL of the food dye type was collected and separated into labeled test tubes in 2 mL
decreasing increments from 10 mL to 2 mL. Likewise, water was added to the test tubes in 2 mL
increasing increments from 0 mL to 8 mL, so that each test tube contained 10 mL of solution. The
absorbance of each solution was measured using the spectrometer, recorded, and then used to
determine the concentration of each solution. A scatter plot of the concentration of the food dye in
each sample versus absorbance was created, allowing or the equation of the trendline to be found. The
absorbance of the beverage solution was then ascertained, and was calculated against the trendline for
the scatter plot to determine whether it was within the same range of standards as the food dye. If the
beverage had not been within the same range of standards, the beverage would have been diluted,
recorded, and measured

The Environment And Its Impact On The Environment
Americans became concerned about the environment in the latter part of the 20th century. Victory over
Nazi Germany was a result of industrialization; however it was detrimental for the environment. With
industries booming, meant more pollution affecting natural resources. DDT was helping to save
millions of lives from fatal disease, but there was minimal evidence as to how harmful this insecticide
was for both humans and animals. Throughout the 1960 s new research was discovered as to the
impacts destroying the environment. Activists as well as politicians began to incorporate the value of
protecting the environment into mainstream events. This gave the perfect opportunity for new
organizations to arise, which over a dozen did. The most influential one being Greenpeace as it was
the first organization to spread awareness about environmental issues, and is now the largest
organization promoting a green and peaceful world.
A decade before Greenpeace was established, leading environmentalist and biologist, Rachel Carson,
published Silent Spring which shed light for the first time on the effects of pesticides. It challenged the
belief that insecticides would not be harmful for people and animals. The impact industrialization had
on the environment and on people s health, such as smog and pollution, was also brought up in the
book. In the latter part of the 1960 s, Ralph Nader, a consumer activist, helped to make the
environment a mainstream issue by ensuring that everybody

The Georgia Straight, By Adrian Mack And Miranda Nelson s...
The choices of words, research, and exceptional organization in an essay will amaze an audience,
while a poorly written one will make a very strong argument ineffective. This failure of possessing a
robust argument and being unable to effectively deliver it is expressed through Adrian Mack and
Miranda Nelson s Vancouver Hockey Riot Is a Symptom of a Larger Problem . The authors view the
riot of June 15th, 2011 in a much broader perspective and intend to use the event as a means to attack
the government. Published in the youth oriented magazine, The Georgia Straight, the essay focuses to
appeal to the youth of Vancouver and does this adequately through its aggressive tone. However, due
to the lack of crucial evidence to support their claims and along with the hypocrisy within the piece,
the effectiveness of the essay to express the argument is poor.
Mack and Nelson begin their essay by taking a look at the borderline psychotic society of Vancouver
(Mack and Nelson 209). The essay discusses the alienated community the city has become along with
the foolishness of the youth. This information soon becomes misleading as the blame from the riot is
dismissed from the city and is placed elsewhere. The outlook of the frenzy is taken from a much more
expansive approach and this is evident in the statement: It s a problem that, as always, starts from the
very top (210). Mack and Nelson note that rather than the rioter s being the problem, the economy and
politicians are at fault

The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargai
Plea bargaining is what individuals would rather do to solve their cases and receive their sentencing
rather than bringing their cases to a trial. Countless individuals would rather take a plea deal then go
through with a trial because trials can last a long time and can come to a longer verdict than with a
plea deal. A plea deal is an agreement that the defendant and the prosecution must agree on in hopes to
benefit from the decision (Plea Bargains or Agreements and Sentencing, 2015). Two of the most
common plea deals are either guilty pleas or no contest pleas where the defendant does not admit or
deny that they committed the crime. In the case of Larry Servedio, he should accept the plea deal
because he is only being sentenced for two consecutive counts of second degree kidnapping. Servedio
will serve fifteen years in state prison seven and a half years for each count which is less time than he
would serve in state prison if he was charged for all his crimes. The process of a plea ... Show more

In addition, plea deals allow the prosecutors to free up their time to focus on other cases and ensures a
conviction for the prosecutor. If represented by a private attorney, the defendant saves money by not
having to retain a lawyer as representation any longer. The downside of a plea bargain could leave an
innocent defendant found guilty and charged for a harsher sentence than what a judge would charge.
In addition, plea bargaining could lead to rushed police investigation where they do not take their time
to look over every piece of evidence (The Pros and Cons of Plea Bargaining, 2015). Some judges may
even believe that plea bargaining is unconstitutional because they are settling for a crime that they
committed and not allowing a judge to do

Consequences Of Texting And Driving
Wouldn t you agree that texting and driving is a big issue nowadays? Many drivers are so caught up in
their phones that they risk their lives and the lives of others just so that they could answer a simple
text message. Now that this problem is becoming so big, it should have severe consequences. People
who text and drive should get license suspension for six months and get $500 for the first violation
and $1000 for the second violation. People who text and drive can hit or even kill pedestrians because
of being distracted by their phones and not paying attention to the road. In the course of five years, the
national number of pedestrians who were killed or hit by distracted drivers increased from 344 to 500
people. If you think about it, many of those people who died could have been young children or
elderly people who didn t have a fault, but because of someone being so inconsiderate using their
phone, they killed these people. In 2015, 5,376 pedestrians were killed because of drivers who were
too busy texting. All those pedestrians who were killed did not think that because of walking
somewhere they would be killed by someone so distracted who didn t have the capacity to make sure
that the road was clear for them to keep driving. If this problem had further consequences, then many
of the people who died wouldn t be dead right now. Most of the drivers who end up killing someone or
getting killed by someone on their phone are usually teens. Eleven teens die every day as

The Supply And Demand For Metals Found At The Ocelot Mine
The supply and demand for metals found at the Ocelot Mine will vary by commodity although the
demand for all three is increasing. Zinc, in particular, shows the most potential for increase, as many
of the world s main producers are closing between the years 2015 and 2020 [16]. It is believed that
this will result in a gap between supply and demand. Already the demand is outweighing the supply,
and as such, zinc prices have increased dramatically. Silver and lead also show growth potential,
largely due to high demand from developing nations and the increase in the industrial sectors of these
countries. Being an operator in Peru also requires understanding what countries are buying Peru s
exports. China received 16.65% of the total value of Peru s exports in 2012 [22]. As such, the
continued growth of Peru s economy is largely dependent on the wellbeing of China s economy. A
slowdown in their economy would reduce the ability of producers to export their products. An
example of this can be seen in the financial crash of 2008 to 2009, which had a devastating impact on
the production of galvanized steel sheets. The global production decreased by 40% during this crisis,
as depicted in Figure 8.10. Since then the market has recovered approximately 65%, primarily due to
the growth in Chinese steel production [17]. This highlights the sensitivity of the zinc market to the
wellbeing of the Chinese economy. Figure 8.5: Historic production of galvanized steel [17] 8.4.

Your Writing Style Essay
Your Writing Style
How can one person know what good style is when writing a paper? Where is it written that we as
students should have to follow specific guidelines while writing? Anyone wanting to make their
writing clear, precise, and simply correct will usually try following some type of guideline, or book in
order to perfect their own writing style. After reading both The Elements of Style by Strunk and
White, and also Williams s Style toward Clarity and Grace I can see why teachers discuss these books
as tools for correcting and perfecting their students writing, and style. While at the same time

before they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of calling these books rule books they should be called suggestive writing tip books. Whereas,
before someone thought if they did not follow the rule they were breaking it, now they can feel they
are simply choosing to ignore some advice that may or may not have been helpful to them. This helps
them to understand that not every time they break a rule is wrong, sometimes choosing to ignore the
advice can have positive effects on their writing. Strunk and White, and Williams use very different
approaches when addressing the issue of style.
Strunk and White, apply more of a straight forward approach strictly telling the reader to follow their
rules word for word. Although, many students and teachers believe it is a mystery why they choose the
rules in style that they put into their book. Are these places where students have the most trouble with
their style, and diction? If not, then are they the pet peeves of an overtly critical no nonsense teacher?
It was my understanding that overall the students should not question the advice being given them;
they should simply follow the rules with no questions asked. After going through the blogs I came
across Paula Newsom s, she felt the same way I did about Strunk and White s method for addressing
style in their book. According to Paula s blog any style book that makes a reader presume that its rules
are engraved in stone suggests that there is only one

My Meme Speech
For as long as I can remember, My Meme has been one of the most intelligent and godly people I
know. She and my Pawpaw helped my single mother raise me and my two sisters. They played a huge
part in turning me into the person I am today. Whether it was something that you needed to know or
when you were feeling down, Meme was there. She was a librarian and a teacher for decades and
everyone of her former students I ve met talk about how she was their favorite. Meme was also the
first to send out birthday or get well letters to members of our church, friends, and family. A few years
ago, she started to act a little strange and ditzy. At first we just thought she was getting goofy in her
old age, but as time went on, things got worse.
At first, she stopped recognizing little things like food being spoiled or the smell of gas. One day, I
came into Meme and Pawpaw s house and the air reeked of gas. Meme had unknowingly left the gas
stove on, unlit. I turned it off and cleared the air by opening up some doors and windows. Soon we
began to recognize that Meme was showing signs of Alzheimers. Eventually we couldn t have candles
in the house and we had to take the keys to Meme s car. My Pawpaw s sight physical condition
wouldn t allow him to drive, but my Meme couldn t understand why we wouldn t let her. Before we
took them, we would find her driving aimlessly around town or circling the high school, looking for
the post office.
Then three years ago, on the morning of August 23rd, my step dad Larry came into my room and
woke me up. Pawpaw had passed away in his sleep. The world stopped spinning, but my head went
reeling as I sat in my bed, surrounded by the darkness of the room. He was the best man I ever knew
and his death broke the hearts of so many. However, the one person who would have been affected the
most by his death couldn t quite grasp the concept of it. When the funeral home gave us the box of
Pawpaw s ashes for a service, it peaked her curiosity. After she finally made us explain to her that
Pawpaw s remains were in the box, she said Where s the rest of him? I bet they cut his legs off! .
Meme eventually recognized that Pawpaw was gone and he isn t coming back. But even in her
fractured mental state,

The Field Communication ( Nfc ) Standards
INTRODUCTION Near Field Communication (NFC) standards were first developed by the NFC
forum, which was founded by a consortium of Nokia, Sony and Philips in the year 2004. It is a
wireless communication standard that uses magnetic induction to fill the physical space between
devices in close proximity to one another in order to exchange data, usually in the 13.56 MHz band.
Since it is closely spaced (less than 10 cm), it is more secure than other wireless tools like Wi Fi and
Bluetooth. There are two types of NFC devices: Active devices have their own power source can read
information from an NFC tag and respond to other devices, and passive NFC devices, which lack the
power source and can only send data. Since the data being exchanged is often sensitive credit card
numbers and medical data, for example NFC encrypts the data and sends it over a unique, secure
channel. (Chris, 2014). Furthermore, NFC enabled device can operate in three different modes. They
are reader/writer mode, peer to peer mode, and card emulation mode.
In Reader/Writer mode the NFC device is capable of reading NFC enabled tag types, such as a tag
embedded in an NFC smart poster.
In Peer to Peer mode, two NFC devices can exchange data. For example, you can share Bluetooth or
Wi Fi link set up parameters or you can exchange data such as virtual business cards or digital photos.
In Card Emulation mode, the NFC device appears to an external reader much the same as a traditional

Hind Swaraj And Indian Western Civilization Analysis
Since the 17th century, Britain had been established on the Indian subcontinent along with the
influence of its Western economic, political, military, and educational systems. In Hind Swaraj or
Indian Home Rule, Gandhi repudiates Britain s Western civilization as essentially secular, failing to
embody morality and religion and instead indulging in materialism. In contrast, the morally superior
Indian civilization is anchored in the belief of God. Therefore, he argues that India must achieve
Swaraj or self rule from Britain to preserve and embrace the true India created by its ancestors.
Successful passive resistance against the British Raj, through individual swaraj or complete control
over one s own physical body and soul, will enable India to cure the disease of civilization.
Gandhi begins his critique of Western civilization by listing its symptoms, most importantly,
industrialization. The development of machinery has transformed everyday life in Europe and has
attempted to promote overall well being of the individual and society. However, Gandhi differentiates
this means of progress as strictly superficial, believing these developments only promote bodily
happiness and self indulgence. In the past, for example, men were required to manually plow land, but
this long process evolved with the invention of the steam engine so that a single man can plow
significantly more land and thereby gain the monetary rewards for the machine s efficiency. By
contrasting previous ways of life to reality, Gandhi emphasizes the changes brought about by
civilization and the newfound reliance on superfluous wealth to buy superfluities for the means of
physical comfort. Money, Gandhi argues, is England s god and guides the pathway of Britain s goal to
convert the whole world into a vast market for their goods (37). Western civilization induces moral
weakness, allowing people to give in to their earthly desires, making bodily welfare the object of life
(31). The illusion of wealth as the means to happiness is the focal point of civilization and will
ultimately lead to its own destruction. Conclusively, Britain s persistent, yet remediable disease of
Western civilization is a grossly incompetent model for India.

was processing large input data and distributed computations. There was no solution for parallelizing
the computations, distributing the data, and handling failures. In order to solve these problems, Google
introduced the concept of MapReduce for parallel computation in a distributed system for synthesizing
large datasets. MapReduce programming paradigm is similar to the concept of map and reduce
primitives which are present in Lisp and many other functional languages. The input to a MapReduce
program is a (key, value) pair. The output is a set of (key, value) pairs. There are two main functions, a
map function and a reduce function. Map function takes an input (key, value) pair and produces a set
of intermediate (key, value) pairs. The MapReduce library looks for all the values of one key and
groups them together. These are then passed to reduce function. The reduce function gets an
intermediate key and all the values associated with it and merges these values together to form a
possibly smaller set of values. The original implementation of MapReduce was done by Google but
now other companies are using their own implementation of MapReduce. For example, Amazon s

John Locke And Niccolo Machiavelli s Views On Human Nature
Locke, Marx and Machiavelli describe their views about trusting the human reasoning. John Locke
and Karl Marx argues that humans have the capability, to be both reasonable and cognitive and they
adapt this nature from their society to be united. However, Niccolo Machiavelli argues that human
beings are not being reasonable and are getting disorganized at some point. Marx and Locke believe
that people are caring, equal and they have the power to rule themselves. Although Machiavelli
describe people as selfish and easily changed. He also wants the people to rule themselves, but he is
supporting only upper class people. Even though all three writers describe different views on human
reasoning but they all wanted the government to give freedom of liberty to humans and bring the
change around the world.
Locke s have developed different views on human nature. He states, that all the men should have
natural right to get private property and protection should a top priority of the government. Locke s
powerful quotes states that the men should have the right to life, liberty and property. He depends on
human reason to give citizens their freedom and their right to protect it. This freedom is the
foundation of the individual s way of life and their human rights. A threat to an individual s freedom
can be extended to be a threat to many other aspects of the individual to take away their freedom. One
of the Locke s quote states, Master and servant are names as old as history, but

Efficient Market Hypothesis For The Real World
Efficient Market Hypothesis has been controversial issues among researcher for decades. Until now,
there is no united conclusion whether capital markets are efficiency or not. In 1960s, Fama (1970)
believed that market is very efficient despite there are some trivial contradicted tests. Until recently,
both empirical and theatrical efficient market hypothesis was being disputed by behavior finance
economist. They have found that investor have psychological biases and found evidences that some
stocks outperform other stocks. Moreover, there are evidences prove that market are not efficient for
instance financial crisis, stock market bubble, and some investor can earn abnormal return which
happening regularly in stock markets all over the world. Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to
demonstrate that Efficient Market Hypothesis in stock (capital) markets does not exist in the real
world by proofing four outstanding unrealistic conditions that make market efficient: information is
widely available and cost free, investor are rational, independent and unbiased, There is no liquidity
problem in stock market, and finally stock prices has no pattern.
Efficient capital market It was generally believed that securities markets were extremely efficient in
reflecting information about the stock market as a whole (Fama 1970). To extent that when there is
new information about stock rise, the news was dispersed immediately and it affects the security s
price at that time.

Abstract
This project us gave the opportunity to analyze and explore performance management system at Bajaj
Allianz. We have explored the performance appraisal part of the same namely understanding the
Talent Management System (TMS) and its use in Bajaj Allianz. How they differentiate between
potential and performance and how they rate a team Member on Performance and Potential to finally
arrive at the overall TMS rating.
Introduction
Performance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there must be consistency in the rating provided to an individual through the two systems.
Performance and potential
Bajaj Allianz differentiates clearly differentiates between performance and potential. These two form
the basis of PMS at Bajaj
Performance refers to the actual performance exhibited by a Team Member in their daily activities and
is measured in terms of Target Achievement.
Performance = Past + Current
Potential refers to the inherent ability or capacity of a Team Member to take on higher roles in the near
future.
It is measured on the basis of:
Ability to learn and contribute to own and other areas of work ,display of energy, enthusiasm, and
positive attitude, ability to serve Customers better, ability to develop relationship and collaborate with
people to work more effectively
Potential = Future (Potential to grow into a higher role in the next 2 year
Assessing Performance
Performance for the purpose of the TMS activity is classified into four performance categories, as
under Assessing Potential
Potential is assessed on the following 4 areas
Each of these areas need to be rated on the following scale:
Scale Rating
Best in Class: The person proactively grabbed every opportunity that presented itself and was found
outstanding in this area. The person can be compared to the best in the industry and sets benchmarks.

Three Year Trend
It is evidently by the graph that the amount of sassy comments significantly decreased over the three
week programme. The programme had an average of 10.7 sassy remarks per day compared to the
baseline data of 15.5, this shows an average decrease of 4.8 sassy comments. Consequently, the
programme data greatly fluctuates over the three weeks with the maximum number of sassy comment
made during the three week period was fifteen and the minimum was six. Unmistakeably, there are
several trends, both of which are also seen in the baseline data. Firstly, the general trend of sassy
comments decreases towards the end of the week and during the weekend (Friday to Sunday) similar

Comparing the two data s, the baseline data had a positive correlation of 0.4048 whereas the
programme data had a negative correlation of 0.1513. This signifies that for the baseline data for my

negative trend. Although, the 0.1513 is a relatively weak decrease compared to a reasonably moderate
increase of 0.4048, it nevertheless demonstrates a small effectiveness of the programme. As seen on
the graph, the blue line (baseline data) is largely above the yellow line (programme date) in an upward
trend whereas the yellow line gradually declines. It is highly difficult to factor out the antecedents that
influence my behaviour; therefore understanding those factors is the second best option. I have noted
that my mood affects my amount of sassiness each day and that midweek my mood significantly
decreases and then increases in late week. Although, it impacts my data greatly it is too difficult to
change these controlling factors. A solution to the problem would be to control the amount of people I
see, thus, controlling my sassiness. Generally, I only express sassy comments as a response to a
cheeky or somewhat vacuous question/comment made by an acquaintance. Henceforth, restricting the
amount of people I see midweek when my sassiness peaks due to antecedents, such as mood, would to

Student Code Of Professional Responsibility
As members of Western College of Law, and, moreover, as members of the legal and academic
communities, students must hold themselves to the highest standards of ethical behavior. An
individual whose actions impugn the integrity of his self or herself necessarily impugn the integrity of
the institutions and communities in which they are permitted membership. Moreover, those who
would practice law have a sworn duty to the People, who must trust in the honor and integrity of their
legal advocates and representatives. If the People lose faith in the law, the law loses its efficacy as a

How Does Holden Characterize Allie s Mitt
One of the symbols J.D. Salinger uses quite frequently in Catcher in the Rye is Allie s baseball mitt. In
the beginning of the novel, it s a normal baseball glove with poems on it, which we later found out
was owned by Holden s brother who had died when they were young. Although, when you reach the
end of the book, you realize that Allie s mitt, along with the memory of him, shaped Holden to be the
person he was in the novel. The baseball mitt represented the past. Before Allie died, the glove didn t
mean anything to anyone else except Allie, but after he died, the glove brought on a whole new
meaning to everyone else in the family, especially to Holden. He carries the glove with him to every
school he goes to, and always thinks about it. When he writes the composition for Stradlater, it has to
be about a detailed room, but Holden ends up writing the composition about his brothers baseball
glove, and it is extremely detailed. He constantly mentions his brother, whether it is in conversation or
his thoughts, because he might be afraid that his brother will be forgotten, and Holden does not want
that to happen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

he didn t get kicked out of schools all the time. After Allie s death, Holden seemed to become more

Robb Osinski and Bob Winskowicz had been friends for twelve years and business partners for five.
In the middle of 2002, they felt that they were on the verge of a breakthrough in the commercialization
of a new technology that their firm, Performance Indicator, LLC, had developed to let golfers know
when a used golf ball had suffered performance degradation due to immersion in water hazards like
ponds and creeks on golf courses. Specifically, they held patents on technology that would change the
color or appearance of balls when they had been submerged in water for an extended period of time.

The U.S. Golf Association (USGA) specified the characteristics of legal balls within tight parameters.
These restrictions on size, weight, materials, texture, etc., seemingly left little room for product
innovation. In fact, the USGA regulations specified not just what went into a ball, but how it could
perform, stipulating to within 10 20 yards how far the ball could travel when hit by a certain type of
club traveling at a certain speed, all verified under controlled conditions with robotic testing
equipment. Nonetheless, new product introductions were rampant in the industry, with slight changes
in surface coatings and dimple patterns, for example, being touted for their ability to add a handful of
yards to a golfer s shots, to give more accuracy, or to create greater control through faster spin on the
ball. In addition, ball manufacturers spent millions of dollars on advertising campaigns for their balls.
There were three basic types of balls, all conforming to the same general specifications. The oldest
technology still in use was the three piece ball, which consisted of a core, windings, and a cover; this
ball was good for spin and overall control. The second, and most popular, type of ball was the
twopiece ball, which eliminated the windings of the three piece ball; this ball produced more distance.
The newest technology was the solid core, multi layered ball, which had taken the

Confucianism Rituals and Sacrifices
Introduction
Ritual is a religious ceremony that involves a series of activities performed in a particular order by
those who subscribe to the religion. Sacrifice is the act of giving something to a supernatural being to
please it. The word sacrifice also means the offering given to the supernatural human being. The essay
is going to discuss rituals and sacrifices in Confucianism, which is one the largest religion in China.
Rituals
In the Confucianism religion, rituals are held to bring people together. The core unifying factor of
rituals is worship. One of the oldest rituals in the Confucian is the worship of the ancestors.
Confucians took ancestors worship as a source of their moral and spiritual fulfillment something that
brought harmony in the society. The rise of Han dynasty in 202 BC, endorsed Confucianism as a
leadership ideology, and it came with the incorporation of the ancestors worship (Dubs, 1938). Shrines
to ancestors mostly consisted of pictures of the dead elders and to show respect to them, one was
required to clasp incense in the hand and kneel before the picture to place the burning incense in the
holder. Ancestors are taken to be a link to the Supreme Being and the people. The respect for the dead
was caused by the belief that a person has two souls, namely hun and po. The two souls are associated
with yang and yin

Similarities Between a Global Leader and an Effective...
A global leader has a lot of things in common with an effective innovator and one of the principal
similarities between the two involves their ability to coordinate teams with the purpose of achieving
goals in a limited amount of time and with as little impediments as possible. It is only safe to say that
innovation is a team sport and that a global leader thus needs to focus on this concept in order to be
able to assist his subordinates in meeting deadlines.
In most cases global leaders feel that it is not up to them to come up with innovative solutions. Rather,
they feel responsible for facilitating the innovation process. (Dyer, Gregersen, Christensen) Even with
the fact that being an entrepreneur in many cases means having to criticize creative individuals for
failing to play an active part in the actual production process, there is much more to being a global
leader. Such a person basically needs to employ complex attitudes in order for him or her to be able to
cooperate effectively with all of his or her subordinates.
Effective innovators are in some situations less concerned about matters like discipline or
accountability. This is why it is difficult for many global leaders to be able to adopt attitudes that
would involve innovation, as they are unwilling to take risks and thus believe that they should solely
concentrate on increasing profits through employing rational actions. Similar to how global leaders are
reluctant to consider innovation as a strategy

The Cruelty Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The inclination to belong in a group or society is naturally present in all humans. We, as a species,
want to belong somewhere or with someone. Even though, we understand the struggle of fitting, we,
as humans still persecute others for not being similar to us. All in all, the exclusion is a form of
bullying. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley exemplifies this phenomena of human behavior,
when she shows the maltreatment that Frankenstein s monster is given for his unattractive physical
features and what he does to terminate his isolation. Victor Frankenstein engulfed in the dedication of
creating a god like image of himself creates a monster. Upon its creation, the monster s entire
perception of the world was around Victor Frankenstein resembling an infant perceiving its
surroundings through its parents. Victor was the monster s father . The monster tried to learn more
information on its creator by staring at Victor Frankenstein laid out on the bed. The monster is
displaying the behaviors of the attachment theory. All of us have a predisposition to instinctively and
immediately seek to attach ourselves to someone who will keep us safe (Lines 51). Victor
Frankenstein is the first one who outcasts the monster. Victor shuns the monster for being hideous,
from the moment he is resurrected. His aspirations of a creature worth admiring was plunged down the
drain. Ostracized by Victor Frankenstein, the monster left the humble abode of Frankenstein. Child

The Art Of Being Hum Role Of Myth
In the textbook: The Art Of Being Human Chapter 3 is about the role of myth in the humanities.
Before art was made there was something called mythology. In every religion, there is a hero and that
hero was prophesied to save the world or save the people that believed in that religion or followed the
rules by granting them eternal life or afterlife in a promised land. The humanities could be found in
mythology. This essay will talk about how mythology, in the role of humanities, should be considered
nonfiction or real.
The birth of the hero may come in an extraordinary circumstance such as the womb of a virgin or a
mortal woman impregnated by a god. That hero is always a man. In Greek culture, that hero is
Hercules, son of Zeus and a mortal woman. In Christian Culture the hero is Jesus, son of God and the
Virgin Mary. His birth was announced by an angel and took place in an inn. Both births are similar
because they were both born with fathers that are gods and mothers that are mortals. Muhammad from
Islamic religion was also born from a virgin mother and announced by an angel. His mother Aminah

Jesus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to push a giant boulder off of something his father buried in the earth long ago. He along with Zeus

The Causes Of Discrimination Against Homosexuals
There are many causes of discrimination against homosexuals in the world today. A homosexual is one
who has sexual relationships with members of the same sex. Worthen states that the majority of
homosexuals believe they were born gay (Worthen, F 2014). This belief often supplies them with
comfort, relieving them of any responsibility to change. However, there is no solid scientific evidence
that people are born homosexual (Worthen, F 2014). Along with outside factors in a person s life, his
own personal choices have played a key role in forming and shaping his homosexual identity, though
few will admit this (Worthen, F 2014). Homosexuals are just ordinary people who happen to love the

engage in marital affair should be a personal decision and not the decision of the state (Osbong, Tony

Perceptions and stereotypes or another discrimination against homosexuals and it leads to homophobia

one slip, one little kiss or too intimate friendship (Howe, Z 2014). And once lost, it can be nearly

Wheelchair Rugby And Its Impact On Sports

organises play, qualifications, the specialist equipment used in the sport, as well as the development of
the sport with in the UK. This is due to the author s ability to rugby and interest in how rugby has been
developed into a disability sport.
Wheelchair rugby, formally known as Murderball, was developed in Canada in 1977 by quadriplegic
athletes (International Wheelchair Rugby Federation, 2014). Quadriplegia is more commonly known
as tetraplegia, this is where all four limbs are paralysed and most commonly as a result of a neck
injury (Disabled World, 2010) Wheelchair Rugby was created as an adaptation of wheelchair
basketball, by reducing the amount of hand and arm actions to make the game inclusive for
quadriplegic athletes; this was done by removing dribbling. Athletes were classified on their medical
diagnosis, in relation to the level of their spinal injury. In 1991 this was changed to a functional
classification specific to wheelchair rugby, in order to include those with polio, cerebral palsy,
muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and amputations. According to Sport England (2010) 68% of
wheelchair rugby participants have a spinal cord injury, compared 6% with cerebral palsy and 4%
with muscular dystrophy. It s also estimated that 40,000 people are living with a spinal cord injury in
the UK (The Backup Trust, 2014). Rugby is one of 11 out of the 23 Paralympic sports

  • 2. Patrice Lumumba’s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism Essay Patrice Lumumba s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism It is hard to believe that in 2002 there is still imperialism being practiced in the world, but the fact of the matter is, it is. Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation s territory or power by establishing dominance over other nations. A modern example of imperialism is the Congo. At the 1885 Berlin Conference, where the European powers carved up most of Africa among themselves, they sanctioned the claim of Belgian King Leopold II to sole authority over the Congo, a land mass 75 times the area of Belgium. The Congo was virtually his private property. He wiped out some 10 million people, around half the population, in his determination to extract every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Lumumba s intentions became clear from his Independence Day speech. He said, We have known sarcasm and insults, endured blows morning, noon and night because we were niggers ... We have seen our lands despoiled under the terms of what was supposedly the law of the lad but which only recognised the right of the strongest. We have seen that this law was quite different for a white than for a black: accommodating for the former, cruel and inhuman for the latter. It is evident from this excerpt that Lumumba s Congo would not be one where the Belgians could remain in complete control. The imperialist powers, led by Washington together with Brussels, undertook a series of operations designed to undermine the new Lumumba led government. Less than two weeks after Congo s independence, the former Belgian rulers succeeded in organizing a secessionist movement in the province of Katanga, where U.S. and European companies had vast mineral holdings. On July 11, 1960, Moise Tshombe, a wealthy businessman and leader of the UCOL party who bitterly opposed Lumumba, declared Katanga s separation from the Congo. UCOL originally stood for the Union for Colonization but then was later changed to the Union for the Collaboration of the Middle Classes in Katanga due to the feverish anti colonial spirit in the Congo. Brussels sent 10,000 troops to Katanga to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Intellect By Ralph Waldo Emerson Poem Often regarded as the leader of the Transcendentalist literary movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson believed that the individual must look inward to find truth and knowledge. He emphatically stressed that one must practice self reliance: the ability to trust one s intuition and not conform to societal standards. Through the use of strict form, powerful imagery, and a wise tone, Emerson s poem Intellect urges us to stay true to ourselves by refusing the practice of blind obedience. The form of Intellect is comprised of just six lines which suggests a call to action for the reader to listen to his wise words. The short form produces a riddle like tone; it follows a strict rhyme scheme and a very strong rhythm. The lines are end rhymed this, coupled with the length of the poem produces an almost child like simplicity. The morals hidden in Intellect aren t simple per se, nevertheless we are reminded of the riddles of our primary school days; we remember the catchy rhythm and traditional morals we learned from these riddles. The rhythm and meter are also vital aspects of this poem s structure: each line contains seven syllables and begins with a stressed syllable. This didactic rhythm jumps out of the page at the reader, causing us to pay attention. The stressed and unstressed syllable pattern produces a sing song effect; the poem beckons us to listen to the wise counsel of Emerson with a child like openness and implores the reader to find the moral that Emerson is trying to get across. The imagery of Intellect is challenging: the poem features a fountain, a wave, the shore, and wings all in just six lines. This abstract imagery allows us to tap into our own intellect and it leaves room for the reader to interpret its meaning. Let us contemplate the fountain first. A fountain is often used to symbolise the source for something desirable: whether it be a drinking fountain, a fountain of youth, or the fountain of life we come across in Christian doctrine. Often times we crave rules; or we might just crave direction or someone to tell us what to do. Unfortunately, the source of these rules is often society. We choose to listen to the voice of society for direction, instead of turning inward. Perhaps by writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Opinion Poll Essay Another factor to note is the influence of opinion polls. Parties that gain popular support during campaigns may have benefited from the bandwagon effect , (Kay, 1997). Some undecided voters may look at opinion polls, and other polling data to decide where the political parties stand relative to each other. The various opinion polls conducted seem to indicate that Alberta was to be an NDP province as the campaign neared its later stages. There were several pre election polls conducted in the province that showed the roughly even amount of support between all three parties. However, the Progressive Conservative s did hold an early lead at the start of the campaign, leading some to believe that they would be re elected. As the campaign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Jim Prentice unsuccessfully attempted to convince the Albertans on the importance of such economic blueprint. The early election call made it possible for the NDP to take an advantage of an unpopular budget. By calling an early election, Jim Prentice was trying to take advantage of the political environment. The PC government were facing a declining approval rate and Jim Prentice had hoped that an early election would provide his government with a new mandate and more years in power. Yet, voters were tired of the PC s budget deficits and lack of vision, and scandals, which provided the NDP the opportunity to offer voters an alternative solution, (Leeson, 2015). These events made the NDP s appear even more attractive to voters as a new approach to governing. Leadership The image of Jim Prentice has been mentioned on most occasions as a reason why Albertans withdrew their support from the long governing PCs. The then government led by Mr. Prentice had received poor reputation and this led to the defeat of his government. Jim Prentice was seen as an elite that was out of touch with the common, everyday Albertan, (Sayers and Stewart, 2016). As a result of this, many voters defected from the PC party and supported other options instead. This was an adequate indication that the party was losing its popularity while NDP was gaining. Also, the New Democratic Party accused the incumbent government of Jim Prentice of poor fiscal policy due to his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Brother s Life I couldn t believe it when the tomato red rental car pulled into our gravel driveway. He s here, I shouted, racing outside to welcome my nephew who had driven across the country to visit us. After greeting him with hugs, we watched as Evan s eyes took in our cabin, nestled in the woods. So this is White Pines, he said. At that moment I wished I could crawl inside Evan s head and see what his first impressions were. If I were a betting woman, I d bet my life that curiosity had forced my nephew into visiting. We d invited my brother s family for a visit several times over the years, but they had never come. Eventually our families had grown up. But as my sons and their cousins stayed in touch, their cousins seemed curious about the kind of lifestyle we led snuggled in the mountains. I believe Evan finally had to check it out for himself before life s obligations made it impossible. Not only had my children and their cousins grown up on different sides of the country, but world s apart when it came to lifestyles. My brother led a traditional life, which offered a beautiful home, the latest clothing styles, and security; while our family had chosen a meager lifestyle, unlike anything my brother s kids could imagine. And while two of our kids had left the nest and blessed us with grandchildren, we felt honored that two of our adult children shared our home. They worked and slept in the attic, while my husband and I slept in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Link Between Autism And Vaccinations No Link Found between Autism and Vaccinations The purpose of report is to explore the possible link between the development of Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and vaccinations containing thimerosal. Around the world, there is a debate over the administration of the mumps, measles, and rubella (MMR) vaccination due to the use of the preserver, Thimerasol. Thimerasol s use is controversial to the fact that the compound contains the toxic chemical element, mercury (Hg). In 1999, the Center for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics pushed the FDA for the removal of mercury from vaccinations administered to children under the age of six. Although this measure was only of a cautionary nature, it led to many parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The information that they extracted consists of the study characteristics, methods, and outcomes. They finally state that they found no relationship, of any kind. The first section in the methods section describes the protocol to be followed. In order to find appropriate studies for the meta analysis, Taylor and Swerdfeger, examined articles from Medline, Pubmed, Embase, and Google Scholar using the guidelines outlined by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Analysis (PRISMA) and independently assessed the risk of bias using the Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS). Eslick then reviewed the articles. Following this, Taylor manually extracted the study design, the country of completion, sample sizes, interventions, outcome measures, and measures of effect from the articles. All literature had to be published and there was no language restriction on the studies, The second section details the eligibility requirements for the analysis. • 7. Education Reform in American Schools Essay Education Reform in American Schools Frederick Douglass was, and still is, a golden example of why education is so important to a human being s life. Douglass spent the first part of his life in ignorance. However, his life of a seemingly endless servitude and ignorance was completely shattered by the fact that he learned to read. Once he learned to read, his life was forever changed. He escaped slavery and tyranny and became an icon even to this day. Douglass s story more than adequately shows that a quality education is perhaps the most important thing a person can receive in their life. Interest groups, who are more interested in preserving their values as opposed to maintaining an exceptional education (Christian fundamentalists, for instance), that control some communities, can completely destroy any opportunity for a young mind to learn. The politics of racial injustice are hopefully completely gone, but we re still living through a state where the races feel as though they are still there. Of course, from my perspective (the perceived subjugator), it is easy to claim the politics are not there. From the perspective of those who believe they are being subjugated, it is even easier to say it is there. They feel it. The second problem, and possibly the most important, is a question of interest. Are schools really condusive to American youth to learn in a stumulating way? I don t believe so. Pubescent students are almost incapable of true learning because their minds are clouded by a hormonal fog for an enormous part of their lives. They walk around the schools nearly humming and buzzing with new and exciting thoughts they are just beginning to understand. Once those hormones have calmed and the student feels they can control them a little, there is still no difference in the way they are taught. Nearly every school is the same (Wood 9). Society s wishes to gentrify lead to the displacement of certain people of color and justified the use of violence against individuals through police action. Victory over Nazi Germany was a result of industrialization; however it was detrimental for the environment. With industries booming, meant more pollution affecting natural resources. DDT was helping to save millions of lives from fatal disease, but there was minimal evidence as to how harmful this insecticide was for both humans and animals. Throughout the 1960 s new research was discovered as to the impacts destroying the environment. Activists as well as politicians began to incorporate the value of protecting the environment into mainstream events. This gave the perfect opportunity for new organizations to arise, which over a dozen did. The most influential one being Greenpeace as it was the first organization to spread awareness about environmental issues, and is now the largest organization promoting a green and peaceful world. A decade before Greenpeace was established, leading environmentalist and biologist, Rachel Carson, published Silent Spring which shed light for the first time on the effects of pesticides. It challenged the belief that insecticides would not be harmful for people and animals. The choices of words, research, and exceptional organization in an essay will amaze an audience, while a poorly written one will make a very strong argument ineffective. This failure of possessing a robust argument and being unable to effectively deliver it is expressed through Adrian Mack and Miranda Nelson s Vancouver Hockey Riot Is a Symptom of a Larger Problem . The authors view the riot of June 15th, 2011 in a much broader perspective and intend to use the event as a means to attack the government. Published in the youth oriented magazine, The Georgia Straight, the essay focuses to appeal to the youth of Vancouver and does this adequately through its aggressive tone. However, due to the lack of crucial evidence to support their claims and along with the hypocrisy within the piece, the effectiveness of the essay to express the argument is poor. Mack and Nelson begin their essay by taking a look at the borderline psychotic society of Vancouver (Mack and Nelson 209). The essay discusses the alienated community the city has become along with the foolishness of the youth. This information soon becomes misleading as the blame from the riot is dismissed from the city and is placed elsewhere. The outlook of the frenzy is taken from a much more expansive approach and this is evident in the statement: It s a problem that, as always, starts from the very top (210). Mack and Nelson note that rather than the rioter s being the problem, the economy and politicians are at fault ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Countless individuals would rather take a plea deal then go through with a trial because trials can last a long time and can come to a longer verdict than with a plea deal. A plea deal is an agreement that the defendant and the prosecution must agree on in hopes to benefit from the decision (Plea Bargains or Agreements and Sentencing, 2015). Two of the most common plea deals are either guilty pleas or no contest pleas where the defendant does not admit or deny that they committed the crime. In the case of Larry Servedio, he should accept the plea deal because he is only being sentenced for two consecutive counts of second degree kidnapping. Now that this problem is becoming so big, it should have severe consequences. People who text and drive should get license suspension for six months and get $500 for the first violation and $1000 for the second violation. People who text and drive can hit or even kill pedestrians because of being distracted by their phones and not paying attention to the road. In the course of five years, the national number of pedestrians who were killed or hit by distracted drivers increased from 344 to 500 people. If you think about it, many of those people who died could have been young children or elderly people who didn t have a fault, but because of someone being so inconsiderate using their phone, they killed these people. In 2015, 5,376 pedestrians were killed because of drivers who were too busy texting. Zinc, in particular, shows the most potential for increase, as many of the world s main producers are closing between the years 2015 and 2020 [16]. It is believed that this will result in a gap between supply and demand. Already the demand is outweighing the supply, and as such, zinc prices have increased dramatically. Silver and lead also show growth potential, largely due to high demand from developing nations and the increase in the industrial sectors of these countries. Being an operator in Peru also requires understanding what countries are buying Peru s exports. China received 16.65% of the total value of Peru s exports in 2012 [22]. As such, the continued growth of Peru s economy is largely dependent on the wellbeing of China s economy. A slowdown in their economy would reduce the ability of producers to export their products. An example of this can be seen in the financial crash of 2008 to 2009, which had a devastating impact on the production of galvanized steel sheets. The global production decreased by 40% during this crisis, as depicted in Figure 8.10. Since then the market has recovered approximately 65%, primarily due to the growth in Chinese steel production [17]. Strunk and White, and Williams use very different approaches when addressing the issue of style. Strunk and White, apply more of a straight forward approach strictly telling the reader to follow their rules word for word. Although, many students and teachers believe it is a mystery why they choose the rules in style that they put into their book. Are these places where students have the most trouble with their style, and diction? If not, then are they the pet peeves of an overtly critical no nonsense teacher? She was a librarian and a teacher for decades and everyone of her former students I ve met talk about how she was their favorite. Meme was also the first to send out birthday or get well letters to members of our church, friends, and family. A few years ago, she started to act a little strange and ditzy. At first we just thought she was getting goofy in her old age, but as time went on, things got worse. At first, she stopped recognizing little things like food being spoiled or the smell of gas. One day, I came into Meme and Pawpaw s house and the air reeked of gas. Meme had unknowingly left the gas stove on, unlit. I turned it off and cleared the air by opening up some doors and windows. Soon we began to recognize that Meme was showing signs of Alzheimers. Eventually we couldn t have candles in the house and we had to take the keys to Meme s car. My Pawpaw s sight physical condition wouldn t allow him to drive, but my Meme couldn t understand why we wouldn t let her. Before we took them, we would find her driving aimlessly around town or circling the high school, looking for the post office. • 18. The Field Communication ( Nfc ) Standards INTRODUCTION Near Field Communication (NFC) standards were first developed by the NFC forum, which was founded by a consortium of Nokia, Sony and Philips in the year 2004. It is a wireless communication standard that uses magnetic induction to fill the physical space between devices in close proximity to one another in order to exchange data, usually in the 13.56 MHz band. Since it is closely spaced (less than 10 cm), it is more secure than other wireless tools like Wi Fi and Bluetooth. There are two types of NFC devices: Active devices have their own power source can read information from an NFC tag and respond to other devices, and passive NFC devices, which lack the power source and can only send data. Since the data being exchanged is often sensitive credit card numbers and medical data, for example NFC encrypts the data and sends it over a unique, secure channel. (Chris, 2014). Furthermore, NFC enabled device can operate in three different modes. They are reader/writer mode, peer to peer mode, and card emulation mode. In Reader/Writer mode the NFC device is capable of reading NFC enabled tag types, such as a tag embedded in an NFC smart poster. In Peer to Peer mode, two NFC devices can exchange data. For example, you can share Bluetooth or Wi Fi link set up parameters or you can exchange data such as virtual business cards or digital photos. • 19. Hind Swaraj And Indian Western Civilization Analysis Since the 17th century, Britain had been established on the Indian subcontinent along with the influence of its Western economic, political, military, and educational systems. In Hind Swaraj or Indian Home Rule, Gandhi repudiates Britain s Western civilization as essentially secular, failing to embody morality and religion and instead indulging in materialism. In contrast, the morally superior Indian civilization is anchored in the belief of God. Therefore, he argues that India must achieve Swaraj or self rule from Britain to preserve and embrace the true India created by its ancestors. Successful passive resistance against the British Raj, through individual swaraj or complete control over one s own physical body and soul, will enable India to cure the disease of civilization. Gandhi begins his critique of Western civilization by listing its symptoms, most importantly, industrialization. The development of machinery has transformed everyday life in Europe and has attempted to promote overall well being of the individual and society. However, Gandhi differentiates this means of progress as strictly superficial, believing these developments only promote bodily happiness and self indulgence. In the past, for example, men were required to manually plow land, but this long process evolved with the invention of the steam engine so that a single man can plow significantly more land and thereby gain the monetary rewards for the machine s efficiency. By contrasting previous ways of life to reality, Gandhi emphasizes the changes brought about by civilization and the newfound reliance on superfluous wealth to buy superfluities for the means of physical comfort. Money, Gandhi argues, is England s god and guides the pathway of Britain s goal to convert the whole world into a vast market for their goods (37). Western civilization induces moral weakness, allowing people to give in to their earthly desires, making bodily welfare the object of life (31). The illusion of wealth as the means to happiness is the focal point of civilization and will ultimately lead to its own destruction. Conclusively, Britain s persistent, yet remediable disease of Western civilization is a grossly incompetent model for India. True ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Introduction Of Mapreduce Programming Model Introduction to MapReduce Programming Model MapReduce is a programming model and an associated implementation for processing and generating large data sets with a parallel, distributed algorithm on a cluster [1]. Before the introduction of MapReduce, biggest challenge in front of Google was processing large input data and distributed computations. There was no solution for parallelizing the computations, distributing the data, and handling failures. In order to solve these problems, Google introduced the concept of MapReduce for parallel computation in a distributed system for synthesizing large datasets. MapReduce programming paradigm is similar to the concept of map and reduce primitives which are present in Lisp and many other functional languages. The input to a MapReduce program is a (key, value) pair. The output is a set of (key, value) pairs. There are two main functions, a map function and a reduce function. Map function takes an input (key, value) pair and produces a set of intermediate (key, value) pairs. The MapReduce library looks for all the values of one key and groups them together. These are then passed to reduce function. The reduce function gets an intermediate key and all the values associated with it and merges these values together to form a possibly smaller set of values. The original implementation of MapReduce was done by Google but now other companies are using their own implementation of MapReduce. For example, Amazon s Amazon Elastic ... Admission to the State Bar will require that Mr. Oshea to prove that he [i]s a person of good moral character, which may be proved by any evidence satisfactory to the court. Furthermore, the State Bar often considers an applicant s financial integrity. In Application of Taylor, the Supreme Court of Oregon denied the applicant, relying heavily on the evidence that the he had committed theft and that he had exhibited dishonest financial practices. Mr. Oshea s offense covers both of these grounds with a single act. The Committee should apply the same logic to its decision. Though this recommendation is admittedly severe, the details Mr. Oshea s actions clearly warrant expulsion. Mr. Oshea intentionally committed fraud. In the beginning of the novel, it s a normal baseball glove with poems on it, which we later found out was owned by Holden s brother who had died when they were young. Although, when you reach the end of the book, you realize that Allie s mitt, along with the memory of him, shaped Holden to be the person he was in the novel. The baseball mitt represented the past. Before Allie died, the glove didn t mean anything to anyone else except Allie, but after he died, the glove brought on a whole new meaning to everyone else in the family, especially to Holden. He carries the glove with him to every school he goes to, and always thinks about it. When he writes the composition for Stradlater, it has to be about a detailed room, but Holden ends up writing the composition about his brothers baseball glove, and it is extremely detailed. He constantly mentions his brother, whether it is in conversation or his thoughts, because he might be afraid that his brother will be forgotten, and Holden does not want that to happen. ... The U.S. Golf Association (USGA) specified the characteristics of legal balls within tight parameters. These restrictions on size, weight, materials, texture, etc., seemingly left little room for product innovation. In fact, the USGA regulations specified not just what went into a ball, but how it could perform, stipulating to within 10 20 yards how far the ball could travel when hit by a certain type of club traveling at a certain speed, all verified under controlled conditions with robotic testing equipment. Nonetheless, new product introductions were rampant in the industry, with slight changes in surface coatings and dimple patterns, for example, being touted for their ability to add a handful of yards to a golfer s shots, to give more accuracy, or to create greater control through faster spin on the ball. In addition, ball manufacturers spent millions of dollars on advertising campaigns for their balls. There were three basic types of balls, all conforming to the same general specifications. The oldest technology still in use was the three piece ball, which consisted of a core, windings, and a cover; this ball was good for spin and overall control. The second, and most popular, type of ball was the twopiece ball, which eliminated the windings of the three piece ball; this ball produced more distance. • 32. Similarities Between a Global Leader and an Effective... A global leader has a lot of things in common with an effective innovator and one of the principal similarities between the two involves their ability to coordinate teams with the purpose of achieving goals in a limited amount of time and with as little impediments as possible. It is only safe to say that innovation is a team sport and that a global leader thus needs to focus on this concept in order to be able to assist his subordinates in meeting deadlines. In most cases global leaders feel that it is not up to them to come up with innovative solutions. Rather, they feel responsible for facilitating the innovation process. (Dyer, Gregersen, Christensen) Even with the fact that being an entrepreneur in many cases means having to criticize creative individuals for failing to play an active part in the actual production process, there is much more to being a global leader. Such a person basically needs to employ complex attitudes in order for him or her to be able to cooperate effectively with all of his or her subordinates. Effective innovators are in some situations less concerned about matters like discipline or accountability. This is why it is difficult for many global leaders to be able to adopt attitudes that would involve innovation, as they are unwilling to take risks and thus believe that they should solely concentrate on increasing profits through employing rational actions. Similar to how global leaders are reluctant to consider innovation as a strategy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
