Emile Research Paper
Emile s moral education grounded in nature leads to the cultivation of imagination, which in turn leads
to the transformation of his amour propre. With amour propre one begins to compare themselves to
others and then the desire for attachment is born to provide for the sexual desires. Emile s imagination
allows him to learn from events he sees, which in turn allows him to see himself in the position of
others. By seeing himself as others, Emilie realizes that everyone suffers, not just him, but he also
realizes that he is superior and can help those suffering more than him. Emile s desire for attachment
leads him to Sophie, who allows Emile to transform from what Rousseau refers to as a good man into
a moral man. The goal of Emile s education was to make him fit for society, but not corrupted by
society. Because Emile has been made fit for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only when Sophie and Emile are together, can either of them be truly moral. By delaying the spark of
imagination, Emile is able to develop his amour propre and fall in love with the idea of his beloved.
The cultivation of Emile s imagination leads to the development of his amour propre, which then leads
to the ability to feel pity, and pity, once generalized to mankind, leads to virtue. The transformation of
Emile into a moral man begins before the marriage of Sophie and Emile, while Emile is away from
Sophie, but the process is completed when Emile follows through on his promise to love Sophie.
The cultivation of Emile s imagination is essential for the development of his amour propre. Rousseau
believes that Emilie should learn from events rather than books. One learns much more from the
conversation with authors than in their books . . . It is the spirit of societies which develops a
thoughtful mind and extends our vision as far as it can go. (Bloom tr., 342). Rousseau believes that

Operational Strategies That Management May Use to Respond...
Operations refers to the transformation of raw materials(inputs) into finished products(outputs). The
operations process is one of the key business functions and is a crucial component to business success.
Like every business, Qantas is affected by many internal and external influences requiring it to have
effective strategies to respond to these influences. Businesses that are able to adopt and utilise
effective operational strategies are able to quickly adapt and either reduce or take advantage of these
influences that impact the business. The effectiveness of these strategies can measured by Qantas
performance and whether or not it is able to hold it s competitive advantage. How well these strategies

By outsourcing, Qantas is able to significantly reduce costs and maintain it s competitive advantage.
However this advantage also has a draw back, hundreds of engineers have also been cut from their
jobs and have had their jobs given to people overseas. This puts a bad reputation on the name of the
business as an Australian business will cut jobs from Australian workers and supple foreign workers
with jobs. Families and friends of these workers may feel resentment towards Qantas and choose to
travel with another airline instead resulting in a loss of customers. This strategy has been effective in
reducing cost but has resulted in a reduction of quality and safety and led to a decreased business
reputation resulting in a loss of customers and stakeholders.
Another strategy that Qantas has used to respond to globalisation is through product differentiation.
Qantas maintained it s competitive advantage by providing a service which was unique and different
to those of it s competitor. Qantas was known for having the best safety record of any airline in the
world . The airline was also true blue Australian and was Australian owned. This made the business
different and attracted customers towards Qantas giving it a competitive edge over it s foreign
competition. Following the deregulation of Qantas, the business has started to lose sight of what it
really was. The business has recently decided to implement another

Biodiversity Is The Whole Collection Of Living Organisms
Every ecosystem on earth relies on the complex relationships made between individual species which
have evolved over millions of years. In this jigsaw framework, the loss of any one individual species
has a significant impact on the remaining species and the ecosystem, thereby affecting its biodiversity.
Per Merriam Webster s Dictionary, biodiversity is the whole collection of living organisms, consisting
of different species of plants and animals, that cohabitate in an ecosystem. This term collectively
describes approximately all 8.7 million unique species, including every class of bacteria, virus, plant,
fungi, and animal, that coexist on earth. As such, biodiversity and the conservation of biodiversity is
extremely important to the human population and the health of all ecosystems. For instance,
biodiversity provides food and materials needed to strengthen our economy. The selling of various
plants and animals for consumption, entertainment/ recreation, and building purposes keeps countless
restaurants and supermarkets in business today. Also, through the study of a vast array of plants and
herbs, scientists have discovered cures to disease and have lengthened the average human lifespan. By
doing so, society has increased its research efforts in medical herbs and in studying genomic
sequences of various endangered species in hopes to uncover new treatments and even piece together
mysteries of the past, for instance, using molasses encased mosquitos to examine the spread

Within any company, managers must be reminded that the focus of a layoff is not on the actual
individual being released, but rather on the position itself. The layoff decision is made based on the
needs of the company and the position. If the individual is not fulfilling the position or if the position
is no longer necessary, the company must make the decision to let the person go. With this
perspective, managers can prevent as many negative emotions as possible and it will additionally
affect the communication between the manager and employee being laid off. When the employee is
reminded of the true purpose of the decision, they will accept the decision more easily than if he or

Thus, the payment schedule would be the following, assuming the employee was laid off August 31
and earned $1500 per week.

Oct 15 | $3000 |
Oct 31 | $3000 |

Dec 15 | $3000 |
Included in the benefits package offered to the employee is the option for the single lump sum, which
pays the employee the full amount of their layoff benefits in one lump sum. However, it would not
include any relevant cost of living adjustments. The employee would receive it within 30 days of
being laid off.
Three Ways the Layoff May Affect the Company
Even if a layoff is completed successfully and with little resistance, there are possible negative effects
in which the decision can have on the company. These include:
* Decrease trust among valuable employees
* Hidden costs, such as severance packages, may cause the layoff to be ineffective
* Workplace morale may decrease
Companies are oftentimes hasty to undergo layoffs as they feel they are eliminating their ineffective
employees and building an environment full of strong and effective employees. However, this does
not guarantee that the valuable employees will remain loyal to the company and it is important that
managers do not depend too much on these employees. Layoffs can also decrease trust among the
valuable employees as they may worry that they too could be

Unrealistic Expectations Of Young Adolescents
When comparing this television show to other young adolescent programs this one is the most
realistic, in my opinion. But of course to keep the show entertaining for the audience they mix in
unrealistic expectations or situations they may face in real life. One example is Riley having her own
emergency credit card. The girls were wanting to sell their clothes but got conned into buying other
clothes instead. Riley simply pulled out her credit card to pay for the clothes .If a young adolescent
was watching this show they would start asking her parents for a credit card. This situation makes
young adolescents feel like they should be treated like grown ups , they want to be independent
(Brown Knowles. pg 4). When in reality this is not a

Ireland Fits Well Into Arend Lijphart s Consensus Model...
Scotland fits well into Arend Lijphart s consensus model of democracy, however only to a certain
extent. Arend Lijphart s strategy of the consensus model is how majoritarian a government is. The
consensus model aims to share out power so that it is not all down to the one governing party. The
consensus model is very important when it comes to Scotland as it can be argued that is only effective
for highly divided societies. There are a few significant elements such as party systems, proportional
representation and the comparison between the Scotland and New Zealand which will be investigated
in this essay.
Arend Lijphart could argue that Scotland is moving away from a firm two party system and drawing
closer towards a multi party system. Currently in Scotland, the Scottish National Party (SNP) is the
largest party in the country, with two medium parties which are the Scottish Conservatives and
Unionist Party along with the Scottish Labour Party. Moreover, the shape in which the Scottish
Parliament was designed is to promote consensus and grown up debate rather than the set up of
Westminster as it a confrontational style of politics. There are also two smaller parties which are the
Scottish Green Party and the Scottish Liberal Democrats. The multiparty system enables more than
one party to take charge of the country as it is trying to get as many people as possible governing for
the country which can be extremely beneficial as it allows power sharing and therefore in time

Theme Of Petruchio In The Taming Of The Shrew
The Secret To Wed A Shrew Lust, wealth, and pride are undoubtedly insatiable. They are an impetus
that drives one to embark on a challenging quest. However, when individuals become obsessed with
them, they may even turn them into a villain. In William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew,
Petruchio is the villain that has all these insatiable curiosities. A male chauvinist, he is a boisterous
nobleman from Verona who pursues Katherine even though he knows that she is fiery and obnoxious.
Despite her notoriety, he is not deterred by her egregious disposition because what he wants is her
dowry. By being manipulative, corrupt, and audacious, Petruchio is able to win Katherine s heart as
well as her wealth. Petruchio is able to get closer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ii. 53 62). By analyzing this dialogue, it becomes apparent that Petruchio only cares about wealth and
power, no matter how shrewish and unattractive his future wife may be. Further evidence that proves
that Petruchio only cares about Katherine s dowry is during the wedding feast, Petruchio announces:
Gentlemen and friends, I thank you for you I know you think to dine with me today And have
prepared great store of wedding cheer, But so it is, my haste doth call me hence, And therefore here I
mean to take my leave (III ii 157 161). This seals the fact that Petruchio does not love Katherine at all,
as clearly, there are seemingly more important things to him than celebrating his own marriage.
Hence, Petruchio s corruption for wealth is the only factor that drives him to marrying Katherine, as
he doesn t actually care about Katherine herself. Finally, the reason why Petruchio is able to complete
his plans is because of his audacious nature. His unrefined personality allows him to speak freely and
ask disrespectful questions in order to deceive people and grasp the situation in hand. This is evident
when Petruchio bluntly asks Baptista: Then tell me, if I get your daughter s love,

Essay Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon was born on August 15th, 1769 in Ajaccio (Capital of Corsica) which is an island 70 miles
west of Italy. His parents were Carlo Bonaparte and Letizia Ramolino. They got married when Carlo
was 18 and Letizia was 14, this was in 1764. Letizia was the one who was always putting food on the
table, Carlo was way to lazy. His father was interested in politics.
Napoleon got sent to military school (Brienne Military Academy) in 1778. He hated it; his peers were
constantly making fun of him. They mostly made fun of him for being a Corsican; this would make
him love his homeland more. Because of the young men constantly making fun of him he would get

His mother still looked at him the same and, still, frequently whipped him when he misbehaved. In
1788, when he was supposed to be sent to return to duty he actually got sent to the Artillery Training
School at Auxonne. During that year he learned all he needed to know about cannons. The more he
learned about them, the more he liked them. He called them Engines of Death which protected the
brave soldiers. He studied many books about war, geology, and other subjects. His favorite book was
the Social Contract written in 1762 by Jean Jacques Rousseau. Because of this book he hoped for a
constitution limiting the kings power and guaranteeing people rights. Which is ironic because
Napoleon would later be a dictator and the book is based on aristocracies and democracies.
At the end of the eighteenth century the French revolution had spread chaos across France. Lazy King
Louis XVI did little to help France. It is said that his favorite pastimes were hunting, where he killed
1,274 deer and 189,251 smaller animal, this would take a lot of time doing. His other favorite pastime
was rolling pellets of dirt from between his toes and flicking them at anyone who came in his range.
He spent France s money on his personal luxuries. His wife and daughter were the same way. They
were always buying expensive jewelry and expensive dresses. Nobles were also treated very well.
That is the reason why 21 million

Seventeen dreadful hours in a plane is what it takes to go from Cleveland, Ohio to Chios, Greece. The

The houses do not include just the typically depicted white stone people traditionally think of but all
sort of different colors and styles. The closer to the mountains the darker the stones are. The reason for
this is that the type of stone that was found in the area is what was usually used in making the house.
The country part of the island is mountainous with goats scaling anything they can get their hooves
on. For example one might find one ascending a neighbor s stone fence or perhaps a car. There are
tons of goats on the island but they are never seen as pests. Goats are a useful farm animal as they can
supply both milk, which is used to make Feta cheese, and meat. Finding a hamburger on the island is
difficult because mostly goats and sheep are raised. However there is always plenty of gyro and
souvlaki. Fish is also really big in Chios. Just a peek at the coast and someone will find small boats
bringing in the day s catch. This means the fish is always fresh and if the restaurant ever runs out of
something they can just call out to a local fisherman to pick up some more. Walking along the coast it
is unsurprising to see the local restaurants hanging up fresh octopus to dry out in the sun. They even

The Housing Type Built On Lands Development
Toronto is largely a residential community. Of 641.45 KM2 of land, 50% (321.43KM2) is zoned for
residential uses. On these lands development is restricted to those permitted under the appropriate
section of Chapter 10 or 15 of City of Toronto Zoning By law 569 2013, or active former by laws of
municipalities amalgamated into Toronto. These former municipalities are currently referred to as the
communities of Toronto (former), North York, York, East York, Scarborough, and Etobicoke.
The (R) zoning category is the most permissive, whereas (RD) and (RA) are the least permissive. This
zoning structure makes it difficult to predict the housing type built on lands zoned (R), (RM), (RT), or
(RS). This is because across neighbourhoods these zones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Demographic Changes, 1961 2016
The capacity difference between housing types is magnified by our changing demographics.
Decline in Children per Women
The declined fertility rate has greatly reduced family sizes across the City. Between 1951 and 1961
Canada s fertility rate peaked at just under 4 children per woman. Between 1961 and 1971 the fertility
rate plummeted, resulting in the fertility rate halving to just under 2 children per woman between 1971
and 76. Since then, the fertility rate has remained low, and for the last 30 years it has remained
between 1.75 and 1.5 children per woman (Statistics Canada, 2017). This has contributed to the
decline in the number of people per private dwelling, and growing issue of over housing where many
houses have unfilled rooms because there are too few residents within them (Canadian Centre for
Economic Analysis, 2017). This is troubling because despite over housing in certain areas, most
residents struggle to find affordable housing and are forced outside the City or into housing with too
few bedrooms.
Residential Zoning and Number of People Per Dwelling
In this calculation, the communities of York and Toronto are not included, because it is more difficult

Diversity And Leadership Commitment To Multi-Cultural...
OLCU 618 Test One Heidi Wempen 5/18/16
1. What does it mean when one is said to be culturally programmed to act in a certain way?
The context given in the text is that culture provides us with an effective framework. So that we know
when and how to behave in various situations. Every culture is different so the frameworks that apply
are different. In this way we are programed by our culture. (Moodian, 2009, p. 11 15).
2. How is culture ever changing and dynamic?
A culture, in order to continue cannot stagnate. Culture are always changing due to various influences
(immigration, government change or media). Change often slowly which is not surprising when it is
considered that culture is typically passed down from generation to generation. ... Show more content

This provides a nurturing environment, where members of the organization to perceive things though
different cultural lenses as well as allowing their own cultural lens to be valued (Moodian, 2009,

4. Why is executive level support important and what are 3 key ways to gaining leadership
commitment to multi cultural diversity? Executive level support is important because grassroots
movements rarely inspire change. Without executive commitment attention to diversity any programs
will likely fall by the wayside.
Three ways of gaining executive commitment to diversity are to gather data and to assess the
organizations current commitment to diversity to show where and why there is a need for change. The
development of diversity council can also garner executive support because it offers a way for
executive members of an organization to have a dialog with other members of an organization about
diversity. Systematic changes are also necessary such as hiring from a diverse roster of candidates
when filling a position. (Moodian, 2009,

The human race wouldn t be where it is today without the evolvement of the brain. But unfortunately,
as astonishing as the brain is, different chemicals released can affect our abilities and choices so easily.
An adrenaline rush is a sudden increase in the secretion of adrenaline from the adrenal glands. This
happens when the brain communicates to the glands that there will be a need for a fight or flight
response. (Brogaard). Serotonin is regarded by some researchers as a chemical that is responsible for
maintaining mood balance, and that a deficit of serotonin leads to depression (McIntosh). Another
influential chemical released to the brain is dopamine. Otherwise known as the reward chemical,
dopamine is the brain s way of making us feel good. Dopamine has the ability to rewire the neurons in
the brain to connect memories or feelings with substances, such as eating something delicious. The
spontaneous neural activity of dopamine neurons is greater in adolescents than juveniles or adults
(Sturman and Bita). This translates to teenagers having a higher tendency to get addicted to the release
of dopamine through examples of enjoyment such as eating, drugs, and, of course, pornography. The
brain gets overwhelmed by the constant overload of dopamine, and it fights back by taking away some
of the dopamine receptors. With fewer receptors and the same levels of pornography releasing the
constant levels of dopamine, viewers (especially adolescents) don t get as excited and tend to go
looking for more hardcore pornography for stronger releases of the reward complex. As another side
affect, regular activities that would usually cause healthy releases of dopamine, such as laughing or
seeing a loved one, don t have the same reward release and make the addicted user unhappy or uneasy
whenever they go for awhile without seeing pornography. (Fight the New Drug). It might be hard to

A Summary Of Bayer Aspirin
As a result of the calculations made above the concentration of the pure ASA in the 10.0mL of NaOH
in mg/mL, based on the Beer s Law plot found in figure 1.0 was 0.0978mg/mL. Presumably, the mass
(in mg) of pure ASA based on the two consecutive dilutions was approximately 97.8 mg this value is
unsuccessfully proven to match the associated theoretical value due to the overall percent yield, which
will be discussed further. Also, according to the same calculations made in calculation #1, the
calculated mass for Bayer Aspirin was inaccurate as the calculated value was less than what was said
by the company. In other words, the Bayer Aspirin did not contain 325mg of ASA, instead it actually
contained 283mg. The percent purity of ASA was calculated to be 65.0 % and based on the reaction
table, the limiting reagent was salicylic acid and manipulations were made with the actual and
theoretical yield which gave an overall percent yield of 53.4%. Furthermore, since this value is less
that 100%, it is considered to be a small percentage yield, this is an indication that the actual yield was
less than the theoretical yield. The reason for such a small value can include the incompletion and/or
loss of sample during each part of the experiment.
Beer s law was involved in the calculations in order to solve for the concentration of the pure ASA
when using the absorbance reading of the prepared ASA in table 3. This method was helpful in terms
of solving for the unknown concentration in

acceptable, it teaches a child to follow rules. Discipline may involve both punishment, such as a time

at one time or another with issues surrounding children and discipline.
Every parent wants their children to be happy, respectful, respected by others, and able to find their

But our goal should not be to turn him into someone he is not.
As my children grew and began to understand the connection between actions and consequences, I
started communicating the rules of our family s home, explained what I expect of them.
Even when disciplining my children I show respect they are more likely to respect me, other family
members, and other people in their life. If I lose it or overreact with disrespect, I apologize. Actually I
behave the way I want them to behave.
For instance, the first time my 3 year old son used pencil to decorate the bedroom wall, I discussed
why that s not allowed and what will happen if he will do it again he will have to help clean the wall
and will not be able to use the pencils for the rest of the day. I explained also that pencils are for paper
only and not for wall.
In other words I establish this kind of I set the rules and you re expected to listen or accept the
consequences standard. Consistency is the key to effective discipline, and it s important to decide what
the rules are and then uphold them. Timeouts also can work well for kids at this age, however I didn t
give them timeouts.
I always reward good behaviors. I know how positive effect my praise can have discipline is not just
about punishment but also about recognizing good behavior.

Societal Values Of The Buck V. Bell Decision
Societal Values of the Buck v. Bell Decision The Supreme Court decision in Buck v. Bell displays
some clues to the values of early twentieth century American society. The interpretation of the 14th
Amendment of the United States Constitution is the lynchpin of the decision, and the values of the
court can be derived from it. In this essay I will demonstrate that the ambiguity of the Amendment in
question has significant consequences, the ethics of the interpretation of the Amendment is derived
form the paternalistic nature of the Constitution, and that equality of the law is subservient to the
desire for a homogeneous and comfortable cultural environment. Interpretation of the 14th
Amendment The central contention of the case is of the interpretation of the 14th Amendment of the
US Constitution. The court argued that it was within the power of the State under the Fourteenth
Amendment to provide sexual sterilization to those who were found to be with an heredity form of
insanity or imbecility. Upon close examination of the 14th Amendment, one can see the ambiguity it
contains. The Amendment can be read as really saying that the state shall make or enforce any law
which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; ...deprive any person
of life, liberty, or property as long as due process of law is followed, and granted the equal protection

Robots During The Industrial Revolution
Innovations in technology from the Industrial Revolution to today have changed work and the
workplace. Robots and other automated machines do many human jobs. One study concluded that
about 50 percent of US workers could be replaced by robots in the next 10 to 20 years (Jones, 2016,
para. 3). Even though robots will replace some jobs done by humans, there will be new and higher
skilled jobs for workers. Some people worry that robots will have a negative impact on humans in the
future. However, people have had this concern for a long time (Shah, 2015, para.15). During the
Industrial Revolution, workers demolished machines in the factories because they worried that their
jobs would be replaced by machines. In the manufacturing industry, machines decreased or eliminated
the need for workers. Governments tried different ways to slow or stop the development of new
technology because of their concern over job loss. In 1638, England s government legally prohibited
certain machines. And during the Depression, the US government imposed a tax on companies that
replaced workers with machines. But new technologies do not necessarily mean that workers who are
replaced by machines will not have jobs (Volti, 2012, 80 81). History has shown that even when jobs
are lost to machines, new higher skill jobs are created. For example, even though manufacturing jobs
were lost in the new economy, new jobs were created in the service industry (Volti, 2012, p. 56).

Carmina Burana
A work that many have, at least heard a piece, of is Carmina Burana. Carl Orff composed this piece of
music in 1936. A German, he was one of few composers that continued work during the Anti Semitic
rule of the country. Orff based his work off of a collection of poems found at the monastery of
Benedikbeuren that dates back to the Twelfth Century! Carmina Burana is a set of twenty five pieces
that concern many of things going in everyone s life today. Drinking, gambling, love, sex, fate, and
fortune are just a few of the topics Orff composed of.1 In this concert report I will go through the

Before reading the text in translation, this piece gave the idea of a rabbit jumping through to pasture or
meadow to a novice listener like myself. This piece picks up from the last movement still pertaining to
fortune. In the latter part of this piece Orff actually wrote in his overall theme by mentioning the
wheel of Fortune turns . The fourth movement, Omnia sol temperat is sung in a completely different
way. It begins with a male soloist singing, accompanied softly by violins. The way Orff chose to
display this movement shows that there is no defined rhythm he is following. The soloist singing in a
profound masculine voice sets the tone for this movement. The next movement discussed stands out as
being one of the longest works of the cantata. In taberna quando sumus opens with stringed
instruments followed by percussion, and then a variety of other instruments join with the chorus.
When we are in the tavern , the title sets this piece up for what I think would have a been a popular
movement when it originated. Orff tells of drinking and gambling at the tavern, then goes on to list
thirty names such as the rich man and the poor man that all drink. This stood out to me because I didn
t see this coming at all! It is also my least my favorite piece of the work. With the setting what it is, I
didn t particularly like the minor tone heard on and off in this

This act also gives people who have committed anti social behaviour to clean up the community e.g.

being punished and will have less of a chance of re offending and the community will be cleaner.
The offenders are the most affected by section 30 of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 in my
opinion because If any members of the public have been intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed
as a result of the behaviour of groups of two or more persons in public places in any area the police
can interfere. You can be stopped and searched if there is suspicion that they will or might commit
anything that may damage society or create a disturbance, for example it gives the police the power to
separate groups of more than 2 if the police feel they may be up to no good. It will also affect the
younger generation because the act gives police officers the power to send under 16s home after 9pm
if they are seemed to be suspicious, this will prevent any anti social behaviour to occur. This will also
affect the local communities because it will make the people living in the community a lot more
secure and safe in their housing knowing any people out after 9pm will be being watched and sent
home by the police if they are misbehaving. The police force may also be impacted because each

Effects of Social Darwinism Essay
Introduction
The Effects of Social Darwinism on the social trends of the 19th century.
As a world view, Darwinism cannot of course be refuted, since Faith is, always has been, and always
will be, stronger than facts. Francis P. Yockey
Social Darwinism is a theory that competition among all individuals, groups, nations or ideas drives
social evolution in human societies. The term draws upon Charles Darwin s theory of natural
selection, where competition between individual organisms drives biological evolutionary change
through the survival of the fittest. The term was popularized in 1944 by the American historian
Richard Hofstadter, and has generally been used by critics rather than advocates of what the term is
supposed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first advocate of the social Darwinism theory had a major impact on the American society as a
whole, starting from economic bases, to the big business minds of the time. In the United States,
Spencer gained considerable support among intellectuals and some businessmen, including steel
manufacturer Andrew Carnegie, who served as Spencer s host during his visit to the United States in
1883. The most prominent American social Darwinist of the 1880s was William Graham Sumner, who
on several occasions told audiences that there was no alternative to the survival of the fittest theory.
Critics of social Darwinism seized on these comments to argue that Sumner advocated a dog eat dog
philosophy of human behavior that justified oppressive social policies. Some later historians have
argued that Sumner s critics took his statements out of context and misrepresented his views.
This picture depicts the idea behind social Darwinism. IT is a powerful society in which keeps the
wealthy, and powerful and kicks out the minority, poor folks who are no longer able to survive in such
a materialistic world.
Chapter 2: Major Social Trends of the 19th Century There were many aspects of the American life

Everything You Eve Wanted to Know About The Netherlands Essay
Introduction 3
The country of Netherlands is lowland and a lot of it is water. The size of Netherlands is 41,526 square
kilometers. The highest point there is Vaalserberg and is 321 meters (Amsterdam guide, 2003). Sea
storms and floods are natural disasters there but there are now dikes to control them better. The
climate in Netherlands is mild (Amsterdam guide, 2003).
Netherlands wanted independence in 1581 but didn t get it until 1648 (Amsterdam guide, 2003). They
lost it then in 1794 by the Austrian Throne of Habsburg (Amsterdam guide, 2003). In 1830,
Luxembourg united with Netherlands but separated in 1890 (Amsterdam guide, 2003). The Germans

chamber has 150 members (Amsterdam guide, 2003).
The king of Netherlands currently is King Willem Alexander van Oranje Nassau. He s the head of the
state. The head of state can be a king and he chooses who can be a mayor or a politician and signs
laws. The king also gives a job to either the prime minister or a politician to form the government.
That person must be from the party that won in the elections. The Prime Minister right now is Mark

The, The Sandman By Neil Gaiman
To my knowledge, I have never read or seen that many horror comics that involve women taking the
lead over the typical male. Just like in Vampirella, it had some horror in it, but was more focused on
being sexual and outlandish. One particular comic book series I was quite fond of was The Sandman
by award winning writer Neil Gaiman. What really got my attention was the character Death; the
sister of the main protagonist Sandman. Death is both the lord and personification of all death and life,
but she is the complete opposite of what people see her image as, an image of a skeleton with scythe
and a scary black robe. We do not know the true image of death, but why depict a woman? Why not
just a figure of a skeleton? Is it too complicated to show Death as a skeleton figure or a mere shadow,
like in the film The Frighteners? It is not scary and I find it sexist to have an image of a dark and
strange figure be a woman. This is similar to the Infinity Gauntlet storyline published by Marvel
where Thanos, the main antagonist, is on a quest to please Death herself in order to win over her heart
and cause destruction all over the galaxy. Again, another personification of death is portrayed as a
female, seeming to signify that women are far more ferocious and scary than men are. I always had an
image of a woman when I think of death when I was little. How woman are seen in horror comics,
they are shown either as being the damsel in distress, or being death itself, but not

Data Breach Research Papaer
Secure or Breached?
As technology is becoming more prevalent the manner in which we store information is changing.
Gone are the days of information being stored into file cabinets. Instead information is stored in
databases, a system of hard drives that stores information electronically normally accessible remotely.
With this comes a rise in hackers and correspondingly a rise in security breaches, where hackers have
access to sensitive information. Vulnerabilities are the root of all hacks. For businesses, they result in a
decline in reliability. If an individual or a group wants to breach information, they will almost always
find a way. With the increasing need for information databases, businesses have to weigh the risks of
hacks. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identify theft is protected under the Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act but only discusses
punishment of the violator. This is another law that does not clearly prohibit cybercrime. It
criminalizes identity theft and allows courts to assess the losses suffered by individual consumers
which does not specify the form in which identity theft must take place. Laws prohibiting and
punishing cybercrimes are less effective when the root of the problem cannot be tracked. For as
controversial as the topic is, there may not be laws in effect fully prohibiting cybercrimes to a full
extent.
Motives behind the hack Reasons behind a data breach are just as varied as the people who carry them
out. Most hackers fall in one of three categories, white hat, black hat, and grey hat hackers. The white
hat hacker is a person who hacks legally; no information is stolen or vulnerabilities exploited. Instead,
white hat hackers are hired by companies to try and breach the security in place, they then inform said
company of how they managed to bypass security masseurs in order to help patch exploits in the
security. Then there is the black hat hackers, these hackers hack without permission for self gain or for
the challenge. They normally steal information like credit card numbers, social security numbers and
addresses. Other times the will sell the nature of the exploit on the black market to the highest bidder.
However, financial gain is not the only motivation

Netherlandish Triptych Case Study
My thesis examines in three case studies that taken together demonstrate how the triptych transformed
over the course of the fifteenth century. Chapter 2 discusses the emergence of the characteristic form
of the triptych that begins with Robert Campin. Campin, who lived from 1375 1444, and who is
usually identified with the Master of Flemalle. He is also considered to be the first master of Flemish
and early Netherlandish painting and established the typical form of the Netherlandish triptych.
Campin settled into Tournai in the early 1400s as a free master of the guild of goldsmiths and painters.
Eventually, Campin represented the guild on the city council. Since there are no documents relating to
Campin s apprenticeship or training, three stylistic sources have been proposed. ... Show more content

known for working with Philip the Bold, and Claus Sluter, a Burgundian sculpture, who worked on the

earliest forms of a triptych in the Netherlands. Campin utilized some elements from the Retable of the

realistic figures, depiction of emotions in his paintings and also a sense of ambiguity. That ambiguity

multivalence would come to characterize Campin s

Survival In Auschwitz Analysis
Primo Levi once stated Today I think that for no reason other than that Auschwitz existed, no one in
our age should speak of providence. Levi, the author of Survival in Auschwitz , could not be more
wrong. Auschwitz, one of the most infamous concentration camps in history, absolutely destroyed
ones identity, as thoroughly described in his book. Levi states Imagine now a man who is deprived of
everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his habits, his clothes, in short, of everything he
possesses: he will be a hollow man, reduced to suffering and needs, forgetful of dignity and restraint,
for he who losses all easily losses himself. (Levi, page 27) The prisoners were exposed to countless

They carefully calculated everything and collectively used their reasoning to solve the Jewish problem
. As a result, one may question the use of reason. In an all about me type of world people use
reasoning to attend to their own personal, and often selfish, agendas: they do not consider their impact
on others. This is exactly what happened in the holocaust. The Nazis did not care about what Jews
thought; they only cared about annihilating them. So if using reason is not always the right thing to do
what is one left with? It appears that all one is left with then would be their morals. However, one s
morals may differ greatly from another s. Therefore, the question becomes how one can claim that
their morals are more pure than someone else s. For instance, what justification did the SS man who
decided whom would survive during the selection have? What gives him the right to claim another s
life? Simply put, the only being just enough to do so is God himself. For this reason the only logical
response would be to then conform to God s will. Morals, however, did not usually last long in
Auschwitz. Nonetheless, Lorenzo, another Italian, broke that trend. Levi writes an Italian civilian

vest of his, full of patches; he wrote a postcard on my behalf to Italy and brought me the reply. For all

had become somewhat of a necessity for consumers. Examples of such industries include: power

In order to achieve its goals clear guidelines were set that specified the degree and timing of

the gas transmission industry. Cooper focused on acquisition targets that possessed strong assets with
high quality manufacturing and market leading positions. Cooper continued to refine this acquisition
model seeking companies with stable earnings using well known technologies that served a broad
customer base. Furthermore, Cooper focused on firms with high quality products and recognized

Enzymes are known as protein catalysts. The name protein catalyst suggests that most enzymes are
made of proteins. A catalyst is a substance that speeds up chemical reactions without being consumed
in the process. (Giuseppe, M 2002, p.69). After a reaction has been catalyzed, the catalyst can be used
again to catalyze the same reaction. Enzymes reduce the activation energy (minimal energy) it takes
for a reaction to take place. Enzymes can either catabolize (destroy), or anabolize (build up) a
chemical system. The substrate is the reactant that an enzyme acts upon as it catalyzes a chemical
reaction. (Giuseppe, M 2002, p. 69). The substrate is bound to a specific site on the enzyme and only

To adequately investigate the question as to whether stereotypes are the psychological lubricant on

stereotypes needs to be defined. Although Lippmann (1922) is credited with first using the term
stereotype in this context it is perhaps Brown (1995) who offers the most applicable definition when
he wrote that quot;to stereotype someone is to attribute to that person some characteristics which are

Social Identity Theory is that the very act of categorisation, regardless of group contact, is enough to

individual s self esteem is related to his or her social category membership and therefore the

individuals seek to form self categorisations of themselves at many different levels ranging from the

Definition of Germplasm:
Germplasm is the living genetic resources such as seeds or tissue that is maintained for the purpose of
animal and plant breeding, preservation, and other research uses.
Weismann s Germ Plasm Theory, Main Points, Objections and Significance:
Germplasm theory was proposed by August Weismann (1834 1914) who was a neo Darwinian
biologist. He proposed this theory in his book Das Keimplasma.
According to the Weismann the variations are of two types. Some are congenital i.e. organisms are
born with them and others are acquired during the life time of a particular plant or animal. The
acquired character, was with the latter type of variations, Weismann was very much concerned. To
explain that acquired character could not be inherited Weismann introduced the theory of Germplasm.
The main points of germplasm theory are the following:
The main concept of theory is that living bodies are made up of fundamentally different types of
material the germplasm (protoplasm of germ cell e.g. sperm and ova) and the somatoplasm (
protoplasm of somatic or body cell). The germplasm remain in the organism and responsible for the
development of reproductive parts, secluded and sealed from the somatoplasm which grow ... Show

According to this concept, the stimulus affects simultaneously the germplasm and the soma (body).
He proposed that internal stimulus affects germs in such a way that it results inheritable variations. For
him the stimulus are nourishment which is necessary for determinants and biophores. The determinant
which get better nourishment are fast and stronger than those who get less nourishment. Consequently
the determinant would produce weaker parts or stronger organ in organisms. For Weismann there is a
struggle for existence between better and less nourished, that will cause appearance and disappearance

Violent Lynchings were also a method used to show dominance and whites growing fear of change.
Prior, to the Gilded Age or the Age of Reform, violence towards African Americans, was widely
committed and accepted. Since the violence was being committed against then slaves, the violence
was legal. Ironically, whites were less violent to slaves as they were valuable. Many African
Americans, were growing weary of this unjust treatment, but only a few dared to speak out publically.
Ida B. Wells, was one of the most prominent social reformers. She was a dual reformers, fighting for
both, racial and gender equality. Wells, spoke out against the brutal practice of lynching and mob
justice and the lack of response. Lynch mobs had no fear of reprisal, as the authorities did nothing to
prevent or pursue them. In her Pamphlet: Southern Horrors, she criticized the reasons given to justify
the Lynchings: false sexual assault allegations against white women and protecting white
society/women s virtue. She argued that these relationships were consensual. Wells stated, Nobody in
this section of the country believes the old thread bare lie that Negro men rape white women. If
Southern white men are not careful they will overreach themselves, and public sentiment will have a
reaction; and a conclusion will be reached which will be very damaging to the moral reputation of

Urban Legend Research Paper
Urban legends are like a type of desire. Be it the occurrence of Roswell UFO or the conspiracies of the
American dollar bill; the similarity found between them were realism . Now then, how did this urban
legend come about? It started as an ordinary rumor one player holding 300 game rankings with an
perfect undefeatable record including the fact he had beaten every cheats and grandmaster. The news
spread like wild fire, and some had even suspected this genius gamer to actually be a hacker.
Whatever the case is, this person had allowed this rumor to spread, for he had an account and ignored
this, thus provided little to no information. Crowned the king of world rankings, countless of people
had tried to identify this mysterious player. Nonetheless, the correct answers are usually the most
boring ones... Ahh... It s finally over... 8A.M, middle of the night... 18 years old. A NEET (Not in
Education, Employment or Training). Terrible skill in communication. Game freak. A person who
wore a simple white T shirt and blue jeans that gives off a feeling of a shut in with unkempt black hair.
This is the correct answer. An answer where no one would accept, nor want to pursue, but rather allow
them to keep hugging the clouds of illusion that an urban legend gives off. ... Show more content on

This also means that he had done five all nighters in total. Suddenly, a sharp tone echoed in his dark
room as the male turned his head ever so slightly to glance down at the shining tablet from his seat.
From a friend...? A dull feeling seemed to stab his chest by just thinking about how ironic his response
was to the notification. It wasn t that messages for him were rare he had received multiple invitations,
war requests, and challenges from many other players. His hollow eyes accompanied with his dark eye

Use Of Disruption Of Performance On Roles Involving...
Focus has been thought to be attained automatically from stimuli with negative valence, allowing
quick recognition of possible threats (Itkes Mashal, 2015). The concept of disruption of performance
on roles involving negative words has been heavily researched (Itkes Mashal, 2015), whereas minimal
research has been conducted on the timing of semantic processing where negative valence applies its
influence on performance.
To view the influence of negative valence on performance, the emotional Stroop task has been utilised
(Itkes Mashal, 2015). The Stroop task involves participants naming colours of words whilst
disregarding their background. The words used generally bear negative or neutral valence, and results
propose that reaction times are slower to negative words in comparison to neutral words. (Itkes
Mashal, 2015) suggest that achievements on this role show a basic deceleration resulting from
dangerous stimuli.
In reference to the Automatic Vigilance Hypothesis, surrounding stimuli are involuntarily viewed as
negative or positive (Itkes Mashal, 2015). This rapid reaction occurs due to the allowance for
avoidance or approach behaviour. Negative data is prioritised when studies drew attention to factors of
behaviour and brain activity. This allows for the cognition system to be prepared for any possible
harm, that could disrupt present processing of information (Itkes Mashal, 2015). Therefore, valence is
agreed to be processed early. The question still

Medical Marijuana As A Treatment For Different Diseases
The United States health care industry has been fighting the increased use of medical marijuana as a
treatment for different diseases. Recent research suggests that diseases like AIDS/HIV, Alzheimer s,
Arthritis, Cancer, Crohn s disease, Glaucoma, Multiple sclerosis and Epilepsy can be helped with
Medical Marijuana. Therefore, given this information, federal government and states should lessen the
restrictions on the usage of medical marijuana to help treat different diseases. Alcohol and Opiates
were two of the most widely used substances for pain before medical marijuana. People that used
opiates as a form of self medication usually get addicted to them. American Society of Addiction
Medicine states Opiate addiction is driving this epidemic, with 20,101 overdose deaths . People often
share their unused pain relievers, unaware of the dangers of nonmedical opioid use which causes the
high number of overdose deaths. Opiates are so addicting that Opiates make up 83 percent of
admissions for intravenous drug addictions (. American Society of Addiction Medicine). In 2014
study, for example, found that states with medical marijuana had fewer prescription painkiller
overdose deaths than those without (Huffington post). Another form of self medication that leads to
addiction is alcohol. The use of alcohol to depress the effects of pain is as old as the fermentation
process itself. Using Alcohol to stop pain can be very dangerous. Alcohol helps make people feel
better when

What Are Lululemon s Competitors
Lululemon is a high quality clothing brand selling items at an expensive price. Customers are willing
to pay a substantial amount of money to purchase this clothing. Lululemon has the power to adjust
prices constantly because they have a high budget. Hundreds of companies sell athletic clothes, but it
can be argued that customers spend money to buy the logo rather than the clothing itself. Some of
Lululemon s competitors are Athleta, Nike, Fabletics, and Under Armor. Lululemon s $98 pair of
leggings looks almost exactly like Athleta s $79 pair. Lululemon has the ability to do this because they
know their customers will choose to buy their logo oppose to Athleta s. The target area for Lululemon
is typically upper middle class women but men and

Syriana Corporatocracy
In the film Syriana corporatocracy was portrayed as many companies conspired to control oil
producing nations for their own profit. These power structures are portrayed in a neutral light for the
first half of the movie. Connex and Killeen weren t portrayed in such a terrible light at first because
we were seeing it from a milder point of view, more like the view from someone who works for those
companies. However at the end of the movie I feel that the portrayal of the different types of
companies definitely changed. They began to show the more sketchy parts of it. At the beginning Matt
Damon s character got to take his family to another country with his business and it was really family
friendly. It progressively got shadier as some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Window Into Adults WithAttention-Deficit Hyper-Activity...
Much of the awareness associated with Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder (ADHD), has been
linked to children and adolescents. The problem with that belief is that there s an ever growing
population of adults who have been diagnosed with the disorder and live with it day by day. The
process of living with the disability, getting diagnosed and receiving treatment, is an interesting one
that has begun to rapidly get attention over the past few years. The impact of this disorder can range
anywhere from a mild distress to a problem that spreads into all aspects of an adults life. One of the
main components to an adult living with ADHD is the work related one. Adults with the disability
have a much higher probability of getting fired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Adler, 2006). Many individuals tend to have risky behavior; therefore they get in trouble with the law
more than an individual without ADHD. Often many of them acquire several speeding tickets
throughout their lifetime and get their license suspended, in more severe cases they have been known
to cause more accidents, people between the age of 16 30 years of age are already a huge percent of
accidents, the addition of ADHD has given this statistic even worse results. (Weisler Goodman, 2008).
In one case example by Mark Stein (2008), a 24 year old individual by the name of Tom had been
attending college for over 4 years. The problem with this scenario was that he didn t even have his
associate s degree, his GPA was a 1.7 and he drank heavily. All three of points have been often
connected to ADHD. These forms of impairment can often carry a huge burden on the parent s
economical situation; such can be spending money on college tuition when the child is continually
failing courses. In many cases, Adults who live with ADHD often do not seek medical help. They tend
to adjust to the disability and blame themselves. Individuals believe they are either to lazy or
unintelligent . The main misconception within these individuals is that they do not realize these
symptoms were carried over from childhood. Many factors to this belief can be that they did not have

Essay On Things They Carried
In the list of all the things the soldiers carried, what item was most surprising? Which item did you
find most evocative of the war? Foot powder was most surprising to me. This also shows us how
much these soldiers had to travel in the war. In what sense does Jimmy love Martha? Why does he
construct this elaborate, mostly fictional, relationship with her: What does this reveal about his
character? The sense Jimmy loves Martha is that she gives him perseverance. Martha is the thing that
makes Jimmy get through the war, she s like Jimmy s rock she gives him the motivation to be with
her. Why do the soldiers tell jokes about the war?About killing? I think soldiers joke to help cope what
they re facing out there in the war. Also, to stay in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
THE STRATEGIES What is significant about the poncho in paragraph 2? What effect is created by its
use? The significance of the poncho explains how Ted was shot and how he was brought to the
helicopter in a poncho. This is a fast way to bring up death and sadness into a part of the story. In
paragraph 11 O Brien talks about unweighed fear . What does he mean by that? How does that further
the theme of the text? Unweighted fear includes all of the bad memories that were made during the
war as well as the good memories of the war. This furthers the theme because we are introduced to
physical burden but as the story progress, we slowly see mental burden are being introduced. what
tone is established by the last sentence of paragraph 13?The tone in the last paragraph is somewhat
nostalgic because Jimmy is replaying memories of Martha and imaging new incidents as his way to
escape war and work. What effect is created by the use of rhetorical questions in paragraph 18? The
rhetorical questions further describe how no one wanted to go down the tunnel. Furthermore,
rhetorical question creates a sense of paranoia because the tunnel wasn t as bad as they anticipated.
How would you characterize the diction O Brien uses? What is the effect the word choice he uses? O
Brien word choice emphasizes the hard work of the soldier. Also, the use of rhetorical question helps
us understand the thought process of a soldier THE ISSUES How did you view warfare

The theme of my roller coaster is a snake. The coaster is called the Slithering Serpent. The materials
that I used to create my roller coaster are: popsicle sticks, paper, paint, rocks from my backyard,
ribbon, a bag and a half of hot glue sticks and a sharpie.
Potential energy is created from the combination of mass, gravity, and height. Ever notice how many
roller coasters start out with a tall hill? This is meant to build as much potential energy as possible. It s
like stretching a rubber band as far as you can. The farther you stretch it, the farther it will fly when
you let go. Once your coaster gets over the hill, it then starts to gain kinetic energy. This is the type of
energy that helps to push you through whatever twists and turns

How Does Harry Potter Show Courage
In this unit on Myth and Legend we read many different themes including courage and strength,
compassion and sacrificial love, warning against vanity and gossip and tragic consequence. The one
theme that stuck with me is courage.
I feel that courage is important because if we don t teach that courage is a good thing then, we would
be stuck doing the same thing everyone else would be doing with only courageous enjoying life and
they would most likely control the people that do not have courage. some of the greatest inventions
happened on accident and some people discouraged them for inventing, but they still had enough
courage in themselves and their idea and made things that would change lives. Also amazing things
that changing the course of history happened because people had courage to make a path for
themselves and future generation. If we don t have courage it ... Show more content on

  • 2. Emile Research Paper Emile s moral education grounded in nature leads to the cultivation of imagination, which in turn leads to the transformation of his amour propre. With amour propre one begins to compare themselves to others and then the desire for attachment is born to provide for the sexual desires. Emile s imagination allows him to learn from events he sees, which in turn allows him to see himself in the position of others. By seeing himself as others, Emilie realizes that everyone suffers, not just him, but he also realizes that he is superior and can help those suffering more than him. Emile s desire for attachment leads him to Sophie, who allows Emile to transform from what Rousseau refers to as a good man into a moral man. The goal of Emile s education was to make him fit for society, but not corrupted by society. Because Emile has been made fit for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only when Sophie and Emile are together, can either of them be truly moral. By delaying the spark of imagination, Emile is able to develop his amour propre and fall in love with the idea of his beloved. The cultivation of Emile s imagination leads to the development of his amour propre, which then leads to the ability to feel pity, and pity, once generalized to mankind, leads to virtue. The transformation of Emile into a moral man begins before the marriage of Sophie and Emile, while Emile is away from Sophie, but the process is completed when Emile follows through on his promise to love Sophie. The cultivation of Emile s imagination is essential for the development of his amour propre. Rousseau believes that Emilie should learn from events rather than books. One learns much more from the conversation with authors than in their books . . . It is the spirit of societies which develops a thoughtful mind and extends our vision as far as it can go. • 3. Operational Strategies That Management May Use to Respond... Operations refers to the transformation of raw materials(inputs) into finished products(outputs). The operations process is one of the key business functions and is a crucial component to business success. Like every business, Qantas is affected by many internal and external influences requiring it to have effective strategies to respond to these influences. Businesses that are able to adopt and utilise effective operational strategies are able to quickly adapt and either reduce or take advantage of these influences that impact the business. The effectiveness of these strategies can measured by Qantas performance and whether or not it is able to hold it s competitive advantage. How well these strategies respond to the influences on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By outsourcing, Qantas is able to significantly reduce costs and maintain it s competitive advantage. However this advantage also has a draw back, hundreds of engineers have also been cut from their jobs and have had their jobs given to people overseas. This puts a bad reputation on the name of the business as an Australian business will cut jobs from Australian workers and supple foreign workers with jobs. Families and friends of these workers may feel resentment towards Qantas and choose to travel with another airline instead resulting in a loss of customers. This strategy has been effective in reducing cost but has resulted in a reduction of quality and safety and led to a decreased business reputation resulting in a loss of customers and stakeholders. Another strategy that Qantas has used to respond to globalisation is through product differentiation. Qantas maintained it s competitive advantage by providing a service which was unique and different to those of it s competitor. Qantas was known for having the best safety record of any airline in the world . The airline was also true blue Australian and was Australian owned. This made the business different and attracted customers towards Qantas giving it a competitive edge over it s foreign competition. Following the deregulation of Qantas, the business has started to lose sight of what it really was. The business has recently decided to implement another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Biodiversity Is The Whole Collection Of Living Organisms Every ecosystem on earth relies on the complex relationships made between individual species which have evolved over millions of years. In this jigsaw framework, the loss of any one individual species has a significant impact on the remaining species and the ecosystem, thereby affecting its biodiversity. Per Merriam Webster s Dictionary, biodiversity is the whole collection of living organisms, consisting of different species of plants and animals, that cohabitate in an ecosystem. This term collectively describes approximately all 8.7 million unique species, including every class of bacteria, virus, plant, fungi, and animal, that coexist on earth. As such, biodiversity and the conservation of biodiversity is extremely important to the human population and the health of all ecosystems. For instance, biodiversity provides food and materials needed to strengthen our economy. The selling of various plants and animals for consumption, entertainment/ recreation, and building purposes keeps countless restaurants and supermarkets in business today. Also, through the study of a vast array of plants and herbs, scientists have discovered cures to disease and have lengthened the average human lifespan. By doing so, society has increased its research efforts in medical herbs and in studying genomic sequences of various endangered species in hopes to uncover new treatments and even piece together mysteries of the past, for instance, using molasses encased mosquitos to examine the spread ... • 5. The Awoke Tadiwa Njagu Professor Lewis HRM530 8102015 Within any company, managers must be reminded that the focus of a layoff is not on the actual individual being released, but rather on the position itself. The layoff decision is made based on the needs of the company and the position. If the individual is not fulfilling the position or if the position is no longer necessary, the company must make the decision to let the person go. With this perspective, managers can prevent as many negative emotions as possible and it will additionally affect the communication between the manager and employee being laid off. When the employee is reminded of the true purpose of the decision, they will accept the decision more easily than if he or she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it would not include any relevant cost of living adjustments. The employee would receive it within 30 days of being laid off. Three Ways the Layoff May Affect the Company Even if a layoff is completed successfully and with little resistance, there are possible negative effects in which the decision can have on the company. These include: * Decrease trust among valuable employees * Hidden costs, such as severance packages, may cause the layoff to be ineffective * Workplace morale may decrease Companies are oftentimes hasty to undergo layoffs as they feel they are eliminating their ineffective employees and building an environment full of strong and effective employees. However, this does not guarantee that the valuable employees will remain loyal to the company and it is important that managers do not depend too much on these employees. Layoffs can also decrease trust among the valuable employees as they may worry that they too could be

But of course to keep the show entertaining for the audience they mix in unrealistic expectations or situations they may face in real life. One example is Riley having her own emergency credit card. The girls were wanting to sell their clothes but got conned into buying other clothes instead. Riley simply pulled out her credit card to pay for the clothes .If a young adolescent was watching this show they would start asking her parents for a credit card. • 8. Ireland Fits Well Into Arend Lijphart s Consensus Model... Scotland fits well into Arend Lijphart s consensus model of democracy, however only to a certain extent. Arend Lijphart s strategy of the consensus model is how majoritarian a government is. The consensus model aims to share out power so that it is not all down to the one governing party. The consensus model is very important when it comes to Scotland as it can be argued that is only effective for highly divided societies. There are a few significant elements such as party systems, proportional representation and the comparison between the Scotland and New Zealand which will be investigated in this essay. Arend Lijphart could argue that Scotland is moving away from a firm two party system and drawing closer towards a multi party system. Currently in Scotland, the Scottish National Party (SNP) is the largest party in the country, with two medium parties which are the Scottish Conservatives and Unionist Party along with the Scottish Labour Party. Moreover, the shape in which the Scottish Parliament was designed is to promote consensus and grown up debate rather than the set up of Westminster as it a confrontational style of politics. There are also two smaller parties which are the Scottish Green Party and the Scottish Liberal Democrats. The multiparty system enables more than one party to take charge of the country as it is trying to get as many people as possible governing for the country which can be extremely beneficial as it allows power sharing and therefore in time ... They are an impetus that drives one to embark on a challenging quest. However, when individuals become obsessed with them, they may even turn them into a villain. In William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew, Petruchio is the villain that has all these insatiable curiosities. A male chauvinist, he is a boisterous nobleman from Verona who pursues Katherine even though he knows that she is fiery and obnoxious. By analyzing this dialogue, it becomes apparent that Petruchio only cares about wealth and power, no matter how shrewish and unattractive his future wife may be. Further evidence that proves that Petruchio only cares about Katherine s dowry is during the wedding feast, Petruchio announces: Gentlemen and friends, I thank you for you I know you think to dine with me today And have prepared great store of wedding cheer, But so it is, my haste doth call me hence, And therefore here I mean to take my leave (III ii 157 161). This seals the fact that Petruchio does not love Katherine at all, as clearly, there are seemingly more important things to him than celebrating his own marriage. Hence, Petruchio s corruption for wealth is the only factor that drives him to marrying Katherine, as he doesn t actually care about Katherine herself. Finally, the reason why Petruchio is able to complete his plans is because of his audacious nature. His unrefined personality allows him to speak freely and ask disrespectful questions in order to deceive people and grasp the situation in hand. This is evident when Petruchio bluntly asks Baptista: Then tell me, if I get your daughter s love, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The more he learned about them, the more he liked them. He called them Engines of Death which protected the brave soldiers. He studied many books about war, geology, and other subjects. His favorite book was the Social Contract written in 1762 by Jean Jacques Rousseau. Because of this book he hoped for a constitution limiting the kings power and guaranteeing people rights. Which is ironic because Napoleon would later be a dictator and the book is based on aristocracies and democracies. His other favorite pastime was rolling pellets of dirt from between his toes and flicking them at anyone who came in his range. He spent France s money on his personal luxuries. The country part of the island is mountainous with goats scaling anything they can get their hooves on. For example one might find one ascending a neighbor s stone fence or perhaps a car. There are tons of goats on the island but they are never seen as pests. Goats are a useful farm animal as they can supply both milk, which is used to make Feta cheese, and meat. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Demographic Changes, 1961 2016 The capacity difference between housing types is magnified by our changing demographics. Decline in Children per Women The declined fertility rate has greatly reduced family sizes across the City. Between 1951 and 1961 Canada s fertility rate peaked at just under 4 children per woman. Between 1961 and 1971 the fertility rate plummeted, resulting in the fertility rate halving to just under 2 children per woman between 1971 and 76. Since then, the fertility rate has remained low, and for the last 30 years it has remained between 1.75 and 1.5 children per woman (Statistics Canada, 2017). This has contributed to the decline in the number of people per private dwelling, and growing issue of over housing where many houses have unfilled rooms because there are too few residents within them (Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis, 2017). This is troubling because despite over housing in certain areas, most residents struggle to find affordable housing and are forced outside the City or into housing with too few bedrooms. • 13. Diversity And Leadership Commitment To Multi-Cultural... OLCU 618 Test One Heidi Wempen 5/18/16 1. What does it mean when one is said to be culturally programmed to act in a certain way? The context given in the text is that culture provides us with an effective framework. So that we know when and how to behave in various situations. Every culture is different so the frameworks that apply are different. In this way we are programed by our culture. (Moodian, 2009, p. 11 15). 2. How is culture ever changing and dynamic? Executive level support is important because grassroots movements rarely inspire change. Without executive commitment attention to diversity any programs will likely fall by the wayside. Three ways of gaining executive commitment to diversity are to gather data and to assess the organizations current commitment to diversity to show where and why there is a need for change. The development of diversity council can also garner executive support because it offers a way for executive members of an organization to have a dialog with other members of an organization about diversity. Systematic changes are also necessary such as hiring from a diverse roster of candidates when filling a position. (Moodian, 2009, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The human race wouldn t be where it is today without the evolvement of the brain. But unfortunately, as astonishing as the brain is, different chemicals released can affect our abilities and choices so easily. An adrenaline rush is a sudden increase in the secretion of adrenaline from the adrenal glands. This happens when the brain communicates to the glands that there will be a need for a fight or flight response. (Brogaard). Serotonin is regarded by some researchers as a chemical that is responsible for maintaining mood balance, and that a deficit of serotonin leads to depression (McIntosh). Another influential chemical released to the brain is dopamine. Otherwise known as the reward chemical, dopamine is the brain s way of making us feel good. Dopamine has the ability to rewire the neurons in the brain to connect memories or feelings with substances, such as eating something delicious. The spontaneous neural activity of dopamine neurons is greater in adolescents than juveniles or adults (Sturman and Bita). This translates to teenagers having a higher tendency to get addicted to the release of dopamine through examples of enjoyment such as eating, drugs, and, of course, pornography. The brain gets overwhelmed by the constant overload of dopamine, and it fights back by taking away some of the dopamine receptors. With fewer receptors and the same levels of pornography releasing the constant levels of dopamine, viewers (especially adolescents) don t get as excited and tend to go looking for more hardcore pornography for stronger releases of the reward complex. As another side affect, regular activities that would usually cause healthy releases of dopamine, such as laughing or seeing a loved one, don t have the same reward release and make the addicted user unhappy or uneasy whenever they go for awhile without seeing pornography. A Summary Of Bayer Aspirin As a result of the calculations made above the concentration of the pure ASA in the 10.0mL of NaOH in mg/mL, based on the Beer s Law plot found in figure 1.0 was 0.0978mg/mL. Presumably, the mass (in mg) of pure ASA based on the two consecutive dilutions was approximately 97.8 mg this value is unsuccessfully proven to match the associated theoretical value due to the overall percent yield, which will be discussed further. Also, according to the same calculations made in calculation #1, the calculated mass for Bayer Aspirin was inaccurate as the calculated value was less than what was said by the company. In other words, the Bayer Aspirin did not contain 325mg of ASA, instead it actually contained 283mg. The percent purity of ASA was calculated to be 65.0 % and based on the reaction table, the limiting reagent was salicylic acid and manipulations were made with the actual and theoretical yield which gave an overall percent yield of 53.4%. Furthermore, since this value is less that 100%, it is considered to be a small percentage yield, this is an indication that the actual yield was less than the theoretical yield. The reason for such a small value can include the incompletion and/or loss of sample during each part of the experiment. Beer s law was involved in the calculations in order to solve for the concentration of the pure ASA when using the absorbance reading of the prepared ASA in table 3. This method was helpful in terms of solving for the unknown concentration in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Societal Values Of The Buck V. Bell Decision Societal Values of the Buck v. Bell Decision The Supreme Court decision in Buck v. Bell displays some clues to the values of early twentieth century American society. The interpretation of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution is the lynchpin of the decision, and the values of the court can be derived from it. In this essay I will demonstrate that the ambiguity of the Amendment in question has significant consequences, the ethics of the interpretation of the Amendment is derived form the paternalistic nature of the Constitution, and that equality of the law is subservient to the desire for a homogeneous and comfortable cultural environment. Interpretation of the 14th Amendment The central contention of the case is of the interpretation of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. The court argued that it was within the power of the State under the Fourteenth Amendment to provide sexual sterilization to those who were found to be with an heredity form of insanity or imbecility. Upon close examination of the 14th Amendment, one can see the ambiguity it contains. The Amendment can be read as really saying that the state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; ...deprive any person of life, liberty, or property as long as due process of law is followed, and granted the equal protection of the laws. • 22. Robots During The Industrial Revolution Innovations in technology from the Industrial Revolution to today have changed work and the workplace. Robots and other automated machines do many human jobs. One study concluded that about 50 percent of US workers could be replaced by robots in the next 10 to 20 years (Jones, 2016, para. 3). Even though robots will replace some jobs done by humans, there will be new and higher skilled jobs for workers. Some people worry that robots will have a negative impact on humans in the future. However, people have had this concern for a long time (Shah, 2015, para.15). During the Industrial Revolution, workers demolished machines in the factories because they worried that their jobs would be replaced by machines. In the manufacturing industry, machines decreased or eliminated the need for workers. Governments tried different ways to slow or stop the development of new technology because of their concern over job loss. In 1638, England s government legally prohibited certain machines. And during the Depression, the US government imposed a tax on companies that replaced workers with machines. But new technologies do not necessarily mean that workers who are replaced by machines will not have jobs (Volti, 2012, 80 81). History has shown that even when jobs are lost to machines, new higher skill jobs are created. For example, even though manufacturing jobs were lost in the new economy, new jobs were created in the service industry (Volti, 2012, p. 56). Robots increase the efficiency of ... The fourth movement, Omnia sol temperat is sung in a completely different way. It begins with a male soloist singing, accompanied softly by violins. The way Orff chose to display this movement shows that there is no defined rhythm he is following. The soloist singing in a profound masculine voice sets the tone for this movement. The next movement discussed stands out as being one of the longest works of the cantata. The most prominent American social Darwinist of the 1880s was William Graham Sumner, who on several occasions told audiences that there was no alternative to the survival of the fittest theory. Just like in Vampirella, it had some horror in it, but was more focused on being sexual and outlandish. One particular comic book series I was quite fond of was The Sandman by award winning writer Neil Gaiman. What really got my attention was the character Death; the sister of the main protagonist Sandman. Death is both the lord and personification of all death and life, but she is the complete opposite of what people see her image as, an image of a skeleton with scythe and a scary black robe. We do not know the true image of death, but why depict a woman? Why not just a figure of a skeleton? Is it too complicated to show Death as a skeleton figure or a mere shadow, like in the film The Frighteners? It is not scary and I find it sexist to have an image of a dark and strange figure be a woman. This is similar to the Infinity Gauntlet storyline published by Marvel where Thanos, the main antagonist, is on a quest to please Death herself in order to win over her heart and cause destruction all over the galaxy. Again, another personification of death is portrayed as a female, seeming to signify that women are far more ferocious and scary than men are. This is exactly what happened in the holocaust. The Nazis did not care about what Jews thought; they only cared about annihilating them. So if using reason is not always the right thing to do what is one left with? It appears that all one is left with then would be their morals. However, one s morals may differ greatly from another s. Therefore, the question becomes how one can claim that their morals are more pure than someone else s. For instance, what justification did the SS man who decided whom would survive during the selection have? What gives him the right to claim another s life? Simply put, the only being just enough to do so is God himself. For this reason the only logical response would be to then conform to God s will. • 37. Main Points, Objections And Significance And Definition Of... Definition of Germplasm: Germplasm is the living genetic resources such as seeds or tissue that is maintained for the purpose of animal and plant breeding, preservation, and other research uses. Weismann s Germ Plasm Theory, Main Points, Objections and Significance: Germplasm theory was proposed by August Weismann (1834 1914) who was a neo Darwinian biologist. He proposed this theory in his book Das Keimplasma. According to the Weismann the variations are of two types. Some are congenital i.e. organisms are born with them and others are acquired during the life time of a particular plant or animal. The acquired character, was with the latter type of variations, Weismann was very much concerned. To explain that acquired character could not be inherited Weismann introduced the theory of Germplasm. The main points of germplasm theory are the following: The main concept of theory is that living bodies are made up of fundamentally different types of material the germplasm (protoplasm of germ cell e.g. sperm and ova) and the somatoplasm ( protoplasm of somatic or body cell). The germplasm remain in the organism and responsible for the development of reproductive parts, secluded and sealed from the somatoplasm which grow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this concept, the stimulus affects simultaneously the germplasm and the soma (body). He proposed that internal stimulus affects germs in such a way that it results inheritable variations. For him the stimulus are nourishment which is necessary for determinants and biophores. The determinant which get better nourishment are fast and stronger than those who get less nourishment. Consequently the determinant would produce weaker parts or stronger organ in organisms. She was a dual reformers, fighting for both, racial and gender equality. Wells, spoke out against the brutal practice of lynching and mob justice and the lack of response. Lynch mobs had no fear of reprisal, as the authorities did nothing to prevent or pursue them. In her Pamphlet: Southern Horrors, she criticized the reasons given to justify the Lynchings: false sexual assault allegations against white women and protecting white society/women s virtue. She argued that these relationships were consensual. Wells stated, Nobody in this section of the country believes the old thread bare lie that Negro men rape white women. If Southern white men are not careful they will overreach themselves, and public sentiment will have a reaction; and a conclusion will be reached which will be very damaging to the moral reputation of their ... • 40. Use Of Disruption Of Performance On Roles Involving... Focus has been thought to be attained automatically from stimuli with negative valence, allowing quick recognition of possible threats (Itkes Mashal, 2015). The concept of disruption of performance on roles involving negative words has been heavily researched (Itkes Mashal, 2015), whereas minimal research has been conducted on the timing of semantic processing where negative valence applies its influence on performance. To view the influence of negative valence on performance, the emotional Stroop task has been utilised (Itkes Mashal, 2015). The Stroop task involves participants naming colours of words whilst disregarding their background. The words used generally bear negative or neutral valence, and results propose that reaction times are slower to negative words in comparison to neutral words. (Itkes Mashal, 2015) suggest that achievements on this role show a basic deceleration resulting from dangerous stimuli. In reference to the Automatic Vigilance Hypothesis, surrounding stimuli are involuntarily viewed as negative or positive (Itkes Mashal, 2015). This rapid reaction occurs due to the allowance for avoidance or approach behaviour. Negative data is prioritised when studies drew attention to factors of behaviour and brain activity. This allows for the cognition system to be prepared for any possible harm, that could disrupt present processing of information (Itkes Mashal, 2015). Therefore, valence is agreed to be processed early. The question still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Society of Addiction Medicine states Opiate addiction is driving this epidemic, with 20,101 overdose deaths . People often share their unused pain relievers, unaware of the dangers of nonmedical opioid use which causes the high number of overdose deaths. Opiates are so addicting that Opiates make up 83 percent of admissions for intravenous drug addictions (. American Society of Addiction Medicine). In 2014 study, for example, found that states with medical marijuana had fewer prescription painkiller overdose deaths than those without (Huffington post).
