Twisted Heroes In Our Twisted Hero
Terrorism, one of the most twisted causes in the world, yet it is seen as heroic to some people. When
considering cultural ways of viewing heros, we generally put them on the highest pedestals for what
they do. They are seen as admirable and an image people strive to be. But, a twisted hero is not
someone who is put on that pedestal. They are not admired and look upon as great. By definition
twisted means unpleasantly, or unhealthily abnormal. Also, if you just think about it, twisted is
something grotesque in nature and not desired upon being. Therefore, a twisted hero is someone who,
although they use unconventional and undesirable methods to advance a cause, by the fruit of their
actions they are heroic. When looking at the book Our Twisted Hero, by Yi Munyol, he presents a
number of different characters within a classroom setting to be a twisted hero. Within the story the
twisted hero is the 6th grade teacher, who broke up Om s rule over the class. He did this by beating the
class into submission saying I wouldn t have laid a hand on you unless absolutely necessary (Munyol
95). This shows how the teacher used an unorthodox and harsh method to produce his results. He
explains how he was disappointed in them and how they so easily gave in. He did the unpopular thing.
Like an army does to its adversary he beat that class into submission. This example ties back into how
a twisted hero is not some one desired upon being for being and using objectionable standards,

State Statutes Authorize The Formation Of Limited...
State statutes authorize the formation of limited liability companies to operate as unincorporated
entities with legal identities separate and distinct from their members. With Wyoming being the first
state in the nation in 1977 to recognize LLCs as a legal structure for operating a business, all fifty
states now have statutes authorizing LLCs.
Characteristics of an LLC
Limited liability companies possess characteristics of both partnerships and corporations. Like a
partnership, an LLC is a pass though entity for tax purposes. Many businesspeople find this feature
particularly appealing because of the avoidance of double taxation. On the other hand, members of
LLCs enjoy limited liability as do the shareholders of a corporation. Where owners of a corporation
are called shareholders, the owners of an LLC are referred to as members. In most states, members
may include individuals, corporations, and other limited liability companies. Like a corporation, most
state statutes do not place a limit on the number of members comprising an LLC, and all fifty states
allow for a single person LLC, i.e., only one member.
The Supreme Court of Delaware made the following observation about limited liability companies:
The limited liability company ( LLC ) is a relatively new entity [in 1999] that has emerged in recent
years as an attractive vehicle to facilitate business relationships and transactions.... [It] is seemingly a
simple concept to permit persons or entities ( members ) to

Mid Term
How did the Ottoman Empire differ from earlier Islamic empires in the Middle East?
The Ottoman Empire, or Ottoman Turkish, was one of the longest in history, having gone through the
whole modern era and only come to an end with the end of World War I in 1918. The event that is
commonly taken by historians as the inaugurator of the Modern age is the fall of Constantinople, the
center of the Byzantine Empire, and was triggered by the Turkish Ottoman. Also, you certainly heard
about the Arabs, the Muslim religion and Islam. Certainly we have also had contact with some of the
achievements of the Arabs, as the Arabic numerals, the number zero or even a compass. These
contributions of Arab and Islamic peoples to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ordering of the army was one of the main assets of the Ottoman Empire. There was a formation of
elite warriors, called Janissaries (or Yeniceri in Turkish), they became one of the greatest war
machines of the period.
The control by the Ottomans expanded toward the Arabian Peninsula and Mesopotamia during the
fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The Sultan Mome II, or Mehemd (1432 1481), was responsible for
the defeat of the Byzantine Empire in 1453, when he claimed for himself the title of caliph, full name
of a Muslim political, meaning sovereign over all Muslims. It was the first time a Turkish Ottoman,
not an Arab, received the title of caliph. It was then that Constantinople was renamed Istanbul.
The cultural and political legacy of the Ottoman Empire still reflects up today in Arab nations such as
Turkey and Saudi Arabia. In the capital of Turkey, Istanbul, there are examples of art and architecture
Muslim living with art and Byzantine architecture, product of Christian orthodoxy. The most
sumptuous monuments are the Church of St. Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Since then, the Ottoman
Empire came to dominate a region that included Anatolia, the Balkans, North Africa, the Arabian
Peninsula and much of Asia Minor. One of the most striking events of the twentieth century was
perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire: the genocide of the Armenians, between 1915 and 1917, during

Dendermonde Essay
Mammoth of Dendermonde restored Woolly overhaul Age began to wear off Dendermonde s oldest
inhabitant. A restauration of the mammoth skeleton at the Vleeshuismuseum imposed itself. Now, the
woolly mammoth of Dendermonde is ready to face time again. A while ago, we started to notice a
kind of yellowish stains on several spots on the skeleton, explains Carolien Van Hecke, director of the
Vleeshuismuseum of Dendermonde. It became clear that something needed to be done in order to
preserve the mammoth, after all, one of the show cases of the museum. At the same time, a group from

the Sixties, major construction works took place in an aera nearby called the Onolfpolder. During the
late Ice Age, swollen rivers deposed a mass of organic materials in that area, like the skeletons of
woolly mammoths, and bones from the equally woolly rhinoceros. Up to three tones of bones were
shipped off to Brussels for furter examination. Fascinated by all these fossiles, Hugo De Potter, 15 or
16 at that time, started to collect bones himself, hauling huge mammoth bones on the back of his
bicycle. Too bad, officials confiscated his collection. But years later, when De Potter had became a
paleontologist himself, he discovered his own collecting in a warehouse of the Royal Belgian Intitute
of Science. For years, he devoted himself to bring back a mammoth to Dendermonde. The result of his
efforts is preserved again for many

Biblical Allegory In The Edenian
In a world where popular culture is ever changing, the Bible continues to provide inspiration for many
cultural texts. The practice of religion has always been tied to popular music in a symbiotic way
(Rauhut, 2017), and representations of the Bible remain prolific in popular music today. Sara Bareilles
is an American pop rock and soul artist, who achieved mainstream success with her 2007 song (I m
not gonna write you a) love song. Her third album The Blessed Unrest was released in 2013, and
features the song Eden (Bareilles, Sara Hales, Matt. 2013), a song that contains heavy biblical
connotations. The lyrics of Eden are symbolic of the traditional story of Adam and Eve in Genesis 2
and 3 from the Christian Old Testament, and demonstrate how music continues to be influenced by the
Bible in the 21st Century. The song Eden offers an excellent example of the way biblical allegory can
be used to retell stories from the Bible through music, however it also shows how popular culture
provides alternative interpretations of biblical texts as well. In this essay, I will first explore the world
in the text through an in depth analysis of the biblical allegory within the lyrics of Eden, to show how
it conveys the traditional story from Genesis 2 and 3. I will then go on to consider the world behind
the text; discussing how Eden is inspired by Bareilles own life, and the way artistic decisions made
within the song differ from the interpretation of the traditional biblical text.

Essay Armor of Ancient Rome
Armor of Ancient Rome Ancient Rome expended a great deal of economic resources and effort upon
conquest and expansion through military means. The role of armor was fundamental in this expansion
as it played a significant role in the success of the Roman armies on the battlefield. There were three
common requirements for armor construction throughout its history: The first was that armor had to be
flexible enough to allow the wearer freedom of movement; second, it also had to be lightweight
enough to be worn without tiring the wearer while providing protection against opponents weapons;
and third, armor had to be cost effective. These three aspects influenced the evolution of Roman
cuirass (lorica) design throughout Rome s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further reorganization occurred after the civil war of A.D.69, when the victorious Flavian dynasty
dispersed disloyal units. As the Empire s expansion slowed, permanent borders were established.
Auxiliaries patrolled the borders and legionnaires were stationed within the frontiers to act as a
strategic reserve and intimidate potentially rebellious provinces. The army can be divided into two
distinct parts: the legion and the auxiliary ( auxilia), with a marked social division existing between
the two. Only Roman citizens could become legionnaires, while auxilia were composed of non
citizens recruited from Rome s client states and tribes. These legions were supported by the non
citizen auxilia consisting of infantry cohorts and cavalry (alae). A legion consisted of around 5,000
men which were mostly heavy foot soldiers. However, it is only possible to attempt a rough estimate
of the men who constituted a legion. It has been estimated that the total number of Roman troops,
including legions and auxilia, numbered more than 300,000 during the first century A.D. It has also
been assumed that the legionary and auxiliary troops were equipped differently. This notion is based
on evidence from a single source, Trajan s column, which shows clear distinctions between legionary
and auxiliary equipment. The early view put forward by historians such as Webster was that the
equipment issued to legionnaires was remarkably uniform throughout the

Essay on Racist Society in Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird
Racist Society in Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird
The way I perceive racism would be discrimination and prejudice against somebody with a different
skin colour or ethical background. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses racial prejudice as the
main subject matter either towards a single person (for example, Tom Robinson) or towards groups of
people (for example, the black community in Maycomb.)
To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the 1930 s. This is when the blacks have gained equal rights with white
people. Bob Ewell is almost if not is, fearful of the blacks as he is seen as the lowest of the low, and he
sees there is no definitely defined line between the black community and himself. ... Show more

We also hear that Jem is aware of Atticus situation, there is evidence that Atticus avoids Jem knowing
this when Jem asks They were after you weren t they? Atticus replies with, No, son, those were our
friends. Atticus called them friends because he didn t want to cause any alarm even though Jem was
aware of the situation.
Jem then shows knowledge of racial politicians , the Ku Klux Klan, by responding to Atticus comment
on that he had never heard of a gang in Maycomb. This is an early sign that Jem is growing up and
able to see what is happening around him, that he doesn t just automatically accept what he sees.
In the novel, racism shows up at both sides of the spectrum, either physical racism or verbal racism.
The most severe form of physical racism is in chapter 24 when Tom Robinson is imprisoned and
murdered when trying to escape even though he was assured by Atticus that he was confident in
winning the case. During his murder, he was shot seventeen times whilst trying to escape the prison. If
this was a non racist attack, however, he would have only been shot once in somewhere like the foot
to bring him down. In some cases, verbal racism can be just as damaging as physical racism. Take Bob
Ewell for example, even though he was the lowest of the low (known as white trash) he was still
considered higher than any black person and quite often addressed them as hey

Sight And Blindness In Oedipus
When most people think of blindness they think of someone who cannot see out of their eyes.
However, someone can have their eyesight but be unable to see what is going on around them and the
impact they are making in everyday life. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus was blind both metaphorically and
eventually physically. Sophocles recurring motif of sight and blindness serves to illustrate Oedipus s
own blindness and understanding. Tiresias is physically blind, but sees more into Oedipus than
Oedipus can see in himself. Oedipus s lack of self knowledge makes him metaphorically blind. Once
he gains knowledge and insight, Oedipus no longer wants his physical sight.
Tiresias is a blind prophet who Oedipus calls upon to clarify information from Apollo s oracle.
Tiresias is physically blind but has the ability to see metaphorically and make predictions. He is
hesitant to reveal to all of his knowledge of Oedipus identity. You, even though you see clearly, do not
see the scope of evil, nor where you live, nor with whom you dwell. Do you know your true descent?
And secretly you are an enemy to your own kin, both under the earth and on it (433 438). Tiresias
knows Oedipus descent and Oedipus needs some self insight to understand the deeds he has
committed and the truth of his birth. Oedipus ignorance causes him to be angry and poke fun at
Tiresias s blindness. Tiresias s blindness allows him to ponder and self reflect, which Oedipus fails to
do which causes his downfall. Tiresias

Columbus Before The Council Of Samaca Analysis
The artwork my group of three chose to describe for this assignment is called Columbus Before the
Council of Salamaca. William H. Powell painted it in 1847. The professor said to identify three
stylistic characteristics, however I am going to identify four of my favorite stylistic characteristics.
Theatricality, immediacy, human drama, and descriptive realism of particulars are the four stylistic
characteristics from different stylistic periods I am going to pinpoint and describe in the painting.
Theatricality is the use of light and shadowy dark to create a spotlight effect, also known as tenebrism.
The artist painted tiny segments of windows behind the figures to allow the bright afternoon sunlight
to penetrate through it and hit the figures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caravaggio painted it in the year ca. 1597 1601 and it can be found on page 539 of the texbook. The
artworks named the Calling of Mathew and Columbus Before the Council of Salamaca are both
similar in many ways. They both have the four stylistic characteristics of human drama, immediacy,
theatricality, and discriptive realism of particulars. In Columbus Before the Council of Salamaca
Powell used the same technique as Caravaggio to create windoms that allow the afternoon sunlight to
reflect on the figures at a particular angle. Powell made his windoms visible to the viewer, however
Caravaggio did not; he just gave the viewer a sense of having one. They both used light and shadowy
dark to create a spot light effect on their figures, the term known as theatricality. Both of these
paintings display a great deal of human drama, the first painting show Columbus infront the concil
men trying to convince them of his finding, while the second is a babically scene of Jesus Calling
Mathew, who was then Levi the tax collector. Those surrounding Jesus were surprise that he wanted a
man that must of them thought was the biggest sinner of all to follow him and so were those listening
to Mr. Columbus. The immediacy play a great role in both of the paintings, in Calling of Saint
Matthew, Jesus raise his left hand to point at Levi,

Hassan Sabbah s Influence On The World
Hassan Sabbah was born and raised in the city of Qom, Iran in the 1050s to a family of Twelver Shia.
Early in his life, his family moved to Rey, South Khorasan in the district of Tehran. Rey was a city
that had a history of radical thought since the 9th century. It was in this center of religious hub that
Hassan developed a keen interest in metaphysical matters and live by the Twelver code of instruction.
From the age of 7 to 17, he studied at home, and mastered palmistry, languages, philosophy,
astronomy and mathematics.
Rey was also home to the activities of Ismaili missionaries in the territory of Jibal located in western
Iran. At the time, Ismailism was a growing movement in Iran and other lands east of Egypt. The

This prompted his abandoning Rey and heading to Cairo in 1076.
Hassan took about 2 years to reach Cairo. Along the way he toured many other regions that did not fall
in the general direction of Egypt. Isfahan was the first city that he visited. He was hosted by one of the
missionaries of his youth, a man who had taught the youthful Hassan in Rey. His name was Resi
Abufasl and he further instructed Hassan.
From here he went to Caucasian Albania, current Azerbaijan, hundreds of miles to the north, and from
there through Armenia. In Armenia, Hassan was persecuted from the region, due to heated arguments
with priests.
He then turned south and traveled through Iraq, reached Damascus in Syria. He left for Egypt from
Palestine. Records exist, to date his arrival in Egypt at 30 August 1078. However, it is unclear how
long Hassan stayed in Egypt, it is said that the assumed amount of time is three years. After which he
attained the Grand Master status.
After achieving his status as Grand Master, Hassan began his claim over the fortress of the eagle s nest
also known as the fortress of Alamut in the Qazvin region in modern day Iran. The fortress of Alamut

Anne Marie Slaughter And Richard Dorment Essay
In life we are told to have it all by raising a perfect family, getting a beautiful house, and having a high
paying job; but is it possible to have it all? How many people can honestly have it all, when so many
are just trying to survive? In the articles, Why Women Still Can t Have It All and Why Men Still Can t
Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter and Richard Dorment, discuss how women function in the
workplace and the different expectant outcomes for each, mainly focusing on the upper class. The
primary objective of Slaughter s passage was to show how women are treated poorly and how they are
held to a different standard than their male counterparts. Dorment focused mostly on how neither
women nor men should strive to have it all because nobody can. Together they consider the subjects of
workplace discrimination, housework standards, family involvement, and striving to have it all.
Anne Marie Slaughter constructed the article, Why Women Still Can t Have It All including personal
and statistical measures to prove that, though women have come far, they are not to the standard of
men. She begins the article informing us of her job as the first female director of policy planning at the
State Department in Washington D.C. Admittingly, with such a high profile job and finding herself
struggling to balance her 14 year old son, she made the decision to quit her job after two years.
Accordingly, Slaughter pondered her years working in a high power workplace, realizing

Types Of Motion Tracking Systems
There are two main types of motion tracking systems. Sensor based tracking systems mainly rely on
contact with the moving object to pick up on signals from movement. Some examples of sensing
techniques are inertial, magnetic, and ultrasonic. Optical or vision based system require the object in
motion to be seen from the device. Often this includes optical markers that are detected by a camera.
Both tracking methodologies and associated devices have their advantages and disadvantages.
2.1 Sensor Based Methods
Cyber Gloves are one type of wireless sensor device that can be used in trajectory model for hand
gesture recognition (Trajectory Modeling in gesture recognition using cybergloves). Glove attached
with sensors determine hand pose by converting sensed finger flexion into electrical signals (Design
considerations for a wearable monitor to measure finger posture). Although there are different
configurations for cyber gloves, most consists of sensors on the back of the glove that detect finger
range of motion and flexion.
Inertial measurement units such as accelerometers can measure things such as gesture withdrawal
capture movement information about hand rotation, and measure acceleration of movement. However,
accelerometers can be uncomfortable for the participant to wear since they are often attached to a band
on the wrist. Additionally, they do not provide much information for recognition of finger movements

Richard Wasserstrom s Ideal Society
Everyone has their own definition of what a perfect world would be. Richard Wasserstrom in Sex
Roles and the Ideal Society states that in an assimilationist ideal society, a person s sex should be as
unimportant as eye color is in our society today.1 But should we just ignore a person s sex all together
to make the world equal? A different opinion from Phyllis Schlafly in The Power of the Positive
Woman states that sex should be a relevant factor in family roles and social roles.Ā² But should a person
s sex completely dictate what they can or cannot do within their family and in society? In this paper I
will argue that Wasserstrom s ideal society will not work because I think that eventually humans
would naturally make general gender roles based on the different activities that each sex excels in. I
agree, to some extent, with Schlafly s that sex should be a relevant factor with reference to roles in the
family and society. In my ideal society, there would be a balance in social and family roles, which
would be based on an individual s personal strengths and weaknesses. In this utopia, complete equality
is possible, unlike in Wasserstrom s and Schlafly s.
Wasserstrom s supports the conclusion that to allocate social roles to individuals based on their sex is
inherently unjust. He goes through different arguments as to why he thinks we should do away with
sex roles. One argument was that within these roles are not the behaviors we would be naturally, but
due to these

Obesity Prevention In The United States
Obesity Prevention in the United States How can obesity be prevented? One of my co workers eats
unhealthy food and she barely engages in physical activities. I wonder how this affects her health. The
risks of obesity doesn t only affect the physical health of a person but also emotional and
psychological. Obesity has become a major public health challenge in the United States. Obesogenic
habitat have increased due to the eating of low calorie foods of low nutritional value and the cutback
of daily physical activity (e.g., the increased portion sizes of food eaten inside and outside of the home
and the reduction of physical activities at home or in schools). Public health experts and personages

In other to prevent obesity, cities and counties have to encourage food retail establishments to promote
healthier options through law and inducement. Retail food establishments like, chain restaurants,
corner stores, supermarkets, farmers markets, and mobile vendors affect public health. Public officials
have advocated a range of policy options to cities for improving access to healthy food and decreasing
the popularity of unhealthy food in various retail food settings (Diller and Graff). Paul A. Diller and
Samantha Graff convey to readers that Regulating retail food establishments can be a powerful tool
for improving a community s food environment, especially in low income food deserts areas that lack
full service supermarkets and restaurants and are saturated with fast food restaurants and liquor stores.
Cities challenging unusual obesity rates are considering numerous governing policies for expanding
the convenience and accessibility of nutritious food, and diminishing the universality of fast food
restaurants and obesogenic packaged food. According to the article Regulating Food Retail for
Obesity Prevention: How Far Can Cities Go? Diller and Graff indicate that most states grant cities or
counties some form of home rule, allowing for broad local policymaking authority. In many home rule
states, cities or counties exercise the police power that is, the authority to regulate for the health,
safety, and welfare of the community concurrently with the state legislature. This home rule is a form
of dividing state and local power that allows municipalities to exercise only those powers directly
assigned by state law. In most states, there is solid legal authority at the municipal level that accept

Stephen King Why We Crave Horror Movies

Wild Card Game Controversy
My passion is being at stadiums of big games that decide if a team makes it to the playoffs, or if they
make it to the wild card game. I would love to start a sports program where we give the fans the
ability to watch the game how they want to want to watch it. Every fan has seen at least one game
when the commentary was biased against your team. Every fan has seen at least one game where they
wouldn t show a replay that, in your eyes, was a controversial play. The program I want to start will
help elevate all of those problems. I want to start a program where we have three different versions of
the same game. One version has a commentary biased toward the home team, one biased toward the
visiting team; the last is a non biased commentary.

Alcoholism Essay
Alcoholism
Alcoholism refers the drinking of alcohol to such a degree that major aspects of one s life are seriously
and repeatedly interfered with. These aspects include work, school, family relationships, personal
safety and health.
Alcoholism is considered a disease. It has known physical, psychological and social symptoms. An
alcoholic continues to drink even despite the destructive consequences. Alcoholism is serious and
progressive. It can be fatal if not treated. Alcoholism is a very complex disorder. An alcoholic who
stops drinking for a while is considered recovering, not cured.

Some common symptoms of alcoholism in the early stages are constant drinking for relief of personal
problems, an increase in one s tolerance for alcohol, memory lapses or blackouts while drinking, and
an urgent craving for alcohol. In the middle and late phases, dependence on alcohol causes tremors
and agitation only relievable by alcohol.
Most likely, a combination of biological, psychological, and cultural factors contribute to the
development of alcoholism in any individual.
Alcoholism often seems to run in families. Although there is no conclusive indication of the alcoholic
family member is associated, studies show that 50 to
80 percent of all alcoholics have had a close alcoholic relative. Some researchers believe that one
inherits an addiction for alcohol. Studies on animals and twins seem to support this theory. One study
suggests that a susceptibility to alcoholism may be linked to a gene on chromosome eleven.
Alcoholism may also be related to emotional problems. For example, alcoholism is sometimes
associated with a family history of maniac depression.
Some alcoholics have used alcohol medicate a depressive disorder. Alcoholics commonly drown their
depressed or anxious feelings with alcohol. Some may drink to reduce inhibitions or negative feelings.
Many alcoholics share experiences of loneliness,

Ten Commandments
For as long as we can remember there have been rules, a set of guidelines for basic human behavior,
and we follow them as if they are second nature. Where did these guidelines come from? What are
they based off of? How did they affect changes in societal behavior? In this essay I will demonstrate
values of previous societies and how they might have led to the creation of the Ten Commandments or
the creation of modern laws and regulations. Next, I will examine the Ten Commandments and their
place in western society today. Finally, I will show cases in which if a commandment were created or
deleted how it would affect such case.

I personally see adultery as abominable behavior. If one is so unhappy that they seek attention from
persons other than their partner, why don t they just leave? When a person commits adultery not only
are they cheating on their partner thus breaking the Seventh Commandment, they are also hurting their
partner in unimaginable ways, causing emotional and psychological effects that may never be
reversed. Fortunately, in America there are punishments for the adulterous party. According to the
Michigan judicial law adultery can be charged as a felony ( Michigan ). They also state that when an
unmarried man commits adultery with a married woman, the man is also chargeable with a felony (
Michigan ). In social situations typically the person who commits adultery is shunned from the group
of friends. The shunning shows the societal view of adultery which to me is that it is unacceptable. Dr.
Wilson supports my idea that adultery corrupts ones relationship and mind (Wilson). In the end,
adultery isn t specifically covered in the United States law but some states do address the

The Criminal Justice System Across The Country Essay
The criminal justice system across the country is designed to punish and strive to rehabilitate those
who have committed offenses against the law. Compared to some of the harshest regimes in the world,
the United States has a harsh history of mass incarceration. American prisons maintain nearly 25
percent of the world s prison population. Of the nearly 2.3 million incarcerated, 1 million are African
Americans (NAACP). The poverty stricken in America, especially those who are persons of color,
face a greater risk of incarcerated for minor offenses than their white counterparts. People charged and
or convicted of crimes are overwhelmingly poor. The Prison Policy Initiative finds that incarcerated
people have a median annual income of $19,185 prior to their incarceration which is 41% less than
that of non incarcerated individuals of a similar age ( Prisons of Poverty ). Both race and socio
economic status plays a critical role in the inequality that takes place in the criminal justice systems.
Over the last half century, the total number of those imprisoned has spiked dramatically as crime rates
have sharply dropped since the early 1990 s. Experts offer varied explanations for the troubling
growth of the American prison industrial complex, including the War on Drugs, harsh mandatory
minimum sentences and a system largely incapable of handling suspects with mental health issues
(Lee). Across the United States, the cost of the justice system is paid increasingly by the

I. Introduction:
Research Question:Are there correlations between different risk factors that teenagers possess that
attribute to Type 2 diabetes and what do they mean in reference to the chances of future diagnosis and
health?
Type 2 Diabetes is a prevalent and growing epidemic in South Texas, according to the American
Diabetes Association. It is the community s duty and obligation to recognize the problems and risk
factors that attribute to Type 2 Diabetes, so that further generations can avoid these lifestyle habits.
Type 2 Diabetes is an insulin deficiency disease that occurs in people aged 40 or older, and is much
more common than Type 1 Diabetes because it can be acquired genetically, but it is more commonly a
progressive disease based on the individual s unhealthy lifestyle, which is why adolescents are still at
risk to contract Type 2 Diabetes. When a person has Type 2 Diabetes, they may suffer from insulin
resistance. The insulin levels in their body are too low, or the cells in a person s body do not respond
properlyto the correct amount of insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas that strictly
regulates the use and amount of glucose (sugar) levels in an individual s blood. Sugar must be stored
for the future or used as energy by the body. Without insulin regulating an individual s blood sugar
level, a person may become hyperglycemic, with too high of a

let s face it, discrimination isn t over, and it never will be. Women have been belittled in almost every

advanced to, we still see women as less superior and deserving of less pay. the average wage for
women is seventy seven cents to the dollar that a man makes for the exact same job. To add salt to the

Women have a small place in the film industry. Well, let me clarify, a VERY small place in the
industry. The biggest role they have is in producing, which is getting a script, director, and team (this
is the job for the people with enough money to sponsor a big part of the creation). It has little to do in
the actual creation of the movie. They make up only twenty five percent in film. That means that men,
make up seventy five percent, but that s only the beginning. five men work in the industry for every
one woman, and women only make up fifteen percent of all the writing done for movies. Even worse,
for the job of directing, women make up a miniscule nine percent in comparison to the ninety one that
men take up, but one more thing. Cinematographers, the people that film the movie and make it
immersive for us, is the worst place for women. They make, only two percent in the entire industry,
meaning that the rest is made up of men. this stereotype of men being better than women at their jobs,
whether it be directing, editing, filming is based on no true information but rather a stigma of women
in the workplace. The public is less able to recognize this discrimination because they re exposed to it
every day. But to have such discrimination even in the background and off stage, without the attention
of the public eye, is disgusting and an insult to

The Female Employer May Sue For Emotional Distress
The female employer may sue for emotional distress. Prior to suing, she must show that she filed with
the federal or state EEOC. Depending on her state, she may also be required to file with her local Fair
Employment Practices Agency (FEPA). The female employer could file a Workers Compensation
claim. In the Supreme Court of Virginia. Ms Butler filed a workman s comp claim, Butler v. Southern
States Coop. Inc., __ Va. __, 620 S.E.2d 768 (Nov. 4, 2005), stating among other things, her employer
was responsible for the emotional distress when a co worker grabbed her and tried to kiss her while
conducting business duties. However Ms. Butler lost her case, with the courts stating the workers
compensation law does not cover distress, due to sexual harassment. Workers Compensation is a law
that compensates employees when they are injured while working. A company with three employees
are less are usually exempt. The employee does not have to prove it was the fault of the employer to
receive the compensation. In workers comp claims, the employer is not able to use contributory
negligence, assumption of risk, and the fellow servant rule to their defense. Also, the injury has to be
work related. Even if the accusation of sexual harassment could not be proven, the company would
not have been liable for Marwan s actions. Marwan was of a seniority position, which exempts Studio

personal achievement which then leads them to be considered as a successful man. Okonkwo is

Rhythm And Blues Research Paper
In 1946, the American entertainment industry grew at a substantially rapid rate. The cause of this was
the Post World War II economic expansion. The Postwar era was filled with many different genres,
and talented artists. It is argued to be one the most multifaceted, and dynamic eras in the history of
American popular music. In the midst of the complexity, two women emerged into the genre of
Rhythm and Blues. Ruth Brown, also known as Miss Rhythm, was one of the biggest stars in the
postwar era. She started at a young age, singing in two sectors of black church tradition. She sang in
the AME (African Methodist) and Baptist denominations. I attended a fundraiser at the Redeemer

Saturday. I am proud of myself for putting myself out there and attending this event. Was I glad I
attended? Yes and No. I am glad I attended because I got to experience something that most students

there will most likely not be another game of this stature since it was a special event, but I would

reason why I find this event caters to a specific audience is because it is a sporting event. Obviously, it

The Effects Of Psychedelics
In the 1950s and 60s research into the potential of psychedelic drugs to treat illnesses began but was
unfortunately stopped in the 70s due to legal opposition from governments and regulatory bodies. It
has only been in very recent years that laws and attitudes regarding psychedelics have changed enough
to allow for research to resume. During this time, evidence has been found to suggest that there is an
unlocked potential of psychedelics to lower rates of mental illness in many sufferers; treating

In humans, DMT is thought to be produced by the lungs (Mandel et al., 1972) and by the pineal gland
(Cozzi et al., 2011), where it also acts to influence mood, perception and thought. DMT is synthesized
from the enzymatic conversion of L tryptophan, which is produced endogenously in plants and is an
essential amino acid in animals, to tryptamine, which is then converted to N methyltryptamine, the
final precursor for N,N Dimethyltryptamine (Axelrod, 1961). DMT non selectively binds to 5 HT
serotonin receptors acting as an agonist or antagonist predominantly in the prefrontal cortex
(Strassman, 1996), an area of the brain responsible for mood and emotional processing (Yang and
Raine, 2009). As previously mentioned, it s been observed that depressed patients have reduced
activity in the prefrontal cortex (Gibb, 2012), so activating this area as well as bringing further release
of serotonin is what s thought to treat the depression and increase connections between emotions,
actions and thoughts. The psychological benefits gained from this can be profound for some
individuals as DMT often promotes the development of personal insights and self knowledge. DMT
can be taken externally via inhalation, injection or oral ingestion in which it is more commonly known
as ayahuasca, a traditional brew used by many cultures throughout history in cultural and spiritual
practices (OsĆ³rio et al., 2015). With regular consumption

Economic Growth And Economic Development
Economic growth refers to an increase in the capacity for an economy to produce goods and services
as compared from one period of time to another. It can be measured either in nominal terms which
include inflation, or in real terms that are adjusted for inflation. It is mainly influenced by
unemployment, inflation, technology levels, rate of investment, population growth rate, among other
factors. These factors are used further to explain the differences in the varying level of output per
capita between and among countries, and explain why some countries are economically growing faster
than others. These factors are best represented in both the theoretical and empirical forms through the
neoclassical endogenous growth models (Steil, 2013, n.p.).
Economic growth revolves around business cycle which include the following phases; depression,
growth or expansion, boom and recession. During economic downfalls such as recession and
depression phases, it is evident that aggregate demand for both goods and services might be
insufficient thus leading to unnecessarily high unemployment rates, low investments and potential
losses of economic output. At this phase the economy of a country goes down as some of the
investments and savings are used to cater for other basic necessities. Inflation also pins down the
growth further as the purchasing power of the current level of income is greatly reduced. As explained
by the IS/LM model in the general theory by John Hicks, there are some

Essay On Website Builders
DIY Website Builders are SEO Friendly or not?
A DIY website builder is a program that is accessible online (it is software) where you can sign up
using just your email address, and the program allows you to start inserting components such as text,
images, slideshows, etc., into a blank canvas so you can start populating your website. These websites
are the likes of Wix, Weebly, Google Sites, WordPress, blogger, etc.
Many people are complaining about the performance of website builders in search engines. Some
argue that it s impossible to rank well for them. The reality is that they are not excessively different
from other website development tools, what is important is how you use them.
Do It Yourself website building tools have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These visitors coming from your SEO efforts (also known as organic traffic) are free.
The search engine results are presented in a hierarchical order, and the higher you appear, the more
clicks and visits you get. There are already lots of websites fighting for organic traffic. Many of them
spend considerable time and resources to improve their search rankings.
One can as well improve his/her SEO performance with a website builder by considering few things
1. Web Technologies:
When speaking about web design technologies, I mean staying away from Flash (or at least using less
Flash) and using more digestible or engine friendly programming languages instead. You might be
shocked to learn that in ancient times, many website builders used to be exclusively Flash based
services (until Flash was proven to be SEO unfriendly). Take Wix for instance. It had been using a
platform based on Adobe Flash till March 2012. Since then it has been using HTML5.
2. On Page SEO Features:
While choosing a site builder, pay close attention to what we call SEO blocks or SEO packs. Usually,
these allow users to easily insert meta tags: title, description, and keywords. Website builders with
advanced SEO capabilities, H1 title tag
Meta description ( keywords if necessary), URL, Image names, Image descriptions, Canonical tags,
also, your Web builder should also

Reflection On Calcium
I have learned from the computer analysis project that my intake in calcium is low, and my intake in
sodium is high. My DRI reports showed me that I am receiving only 31% of the recommended daily
value for calcium intake. An appropriate amount of calcium is 1300 mg, but I consumed only 409 mg.
My DRI reports also showed me that I consumed above the recommended range for sodium. A
deficiency of calcium has serious effects just as a toxicity of sodium does. After reviewing my reports,
I learned that I need to change my diet and be more cautious about the amounts of calcium and sodium
that I consume.
In nutrition class, I learned that calcium is a mineral that an individual needs in order to maintain
healthy bones. If an individual does not consume enough calcium than he or she is will be at risk of
osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a lack of calcium in bones which is a loss of total bone mass, not just
minerals. Bones become weak and very brittle. This leads to fractures of the weight bearing bones,
such as those in the hips and spines. To prevent osteoporosis, I need to consume the daily
recommended value of calcium. Calcium is primarily found in dairy products such as cheese and milk.
Throughout September 30th to October 2nd, I did not consume enough dairy products. Out of the
1300mg recommended value for calcium, I only consumed 409 mg. I ate American processed cheese,
scrambled eggs and mashed potato which were prepared with milk, but that was not enough to meet

  • 2. Twisted Heroes In Our Twisted Hero Terrorism, one of the most twisted causes in the world, yet it is seen as heroic to some people. When considering cultural ways of viewing heros, we generally put them on the highest pedestals for what they do. They are seen as admirable and an image people strive to be. But, a twisted hero is not someone who is put on that pedestal. They are not admired and look upon as great. By definition twisted means unpleasantly, or unhealthily abnormal. Also, if you just think about it, twisted is something grotesque in nature and not desired upon being. Therefore, a twisted hero is someone who, although they use unconventional and undesirable methods to advance a cause, by the fruit of their actions they are heroic. When looking at the book Our Twisted Hero, by Yi Munyol, he presents a number of different characters within a classroom setting to be a twisted hero. Within the story the twisted hero is the 6th grade teacher, who broke up Om s rule over the class. He did this by beating the class into submission saying I wouldn t have laid a hand on you unless absolutely necessary (Munyol 95). This shows how the teacher used an unorthodox and harsh method to produce his results. He explains how he was disappointed in them and how they so easily gave in. He did the unpopular thing. Like an army does to its adversary he beat that class into submission. This example ties back into how a twisted hero is not some one desired upon being for being and using objectionable standards, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. State Statutes Authorize The Formation Of Limited... State statutes authorize the formation of limited liability companies to operate as unincorporated entities with legal identities separate and distinct from their members. With Wyoming being the first state in the nation in 1977 to recognize LLCs as a legal structure for operating a business, all fifty states now have statutes authorizing LLCs. Characteristics of an LLC Limited liability companies possess characteristics of both partnerships and corporations. Like a partnership, an LLC is a pass though entity for tax purposes. Many businesspeople find this feature particularly appealing because of the avoidance of double taxation. On the other hand, members of LLCs enjoy limited liability as do the shareholders of a corporation. Where owners of a corporation are called shareholders, the owners of an LLC are referred to as members. In most states, members may include individuals, corporations, and other limited liability companies. Like a corporation, most state statutes do not place a limit on the number of members comprising an LLC, and all fifty states allow for a single person LLC, i.e., only one member. The Supreme Court of Delaware made the following observation about limited liability companies: The limited liability company ( LLC ) is a relatively new entity [in 1999] that has emerged in recent years as an attractive vehicle to facilitate business relationships and transactions.... [It] is seemingly a simple concept to permit persons or entities ( members ) to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Did The Ottoman Empire Differ From Earlier And The... story 02/28/2016 Mid Term How did the Ottoman Empire differ from earlier Islamic empires in the Middle East? The Ottoman Empire, or Ottoman Turkish, was one of the longest in history, having gone through the whole modern era and only come to an end with the end of World War I in 1918. The event that is commonly taken by historians as the inaugurator of the Modern age is the fall of Constantinople, the center of the Byzantine Empire, and was triggered by the Turkish Ottoman. Also, you certainly heard about the Arabs, the Muslim religion and Islam. Certainly we have also had contact with some of the achievements of the Arabs, as the Arabic numerals, the number zero or even a compass. These contributions of Arab and Islamic peoples to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ordering of the army was one of the main assets of the Ottoman Empire. There was a formation of elite warriors, called Janissaries (or Yeniceri in Turkish), they became one of the greatest war machines of the period. The control by the Ottomans expanded toward the Arabian Peninsula and Mesopotamia during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The Sultan Mome II, or Mehemd (1432 1481), was responsible for the defeat of the Byzantine Empire in 1453, when he claimed for himself the title of caliph, full name of a Muslim political, meaning sovereign over all Muslims. It was the first time a Turkish Ottoman, not an Arab, received the title of caliph. It was then that Constantinople was renamed Istanbul. The cultural and political legacy of the Ottoman Empire still reflects up today in Arab nations such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia. In the capital of Turkey, Istanbul, there are examples of art and architecture Muslim living with art and Byzantine architecture, product of Christian orthodoxy. The most sumptuous monuments are the Church of St. Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Since then, the Ottoman Empire came to dominate a region that included Anatolia, the Balkans, North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and much of Asia Minor. One of the most striking events of the twentieth century was perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire: the genocide of the Armenians, between 1915 and 1917, during the First World ... A restauration of the mammoth skeleton at the Vleeshuismuseum imposed itself. Now, the woolly mammoth of Dendermonde is ready to face time again. A while ago, we started to notice a kind of yellowish stains on several spots on the skeleton, explains Carolien Van Hecke, director of the Vleeshuismuseum of Dendermonde. It became clear that something needed to be done in order to preserve the mammoth, after all, one of the show cases of the museum. But a mammoth has a lot of bones, which all had to be taken from the supportive frame for series of bath in chemical products. It was urgent, but now our mammoth is ready for the years to come. And for the public. Mammoth on the cycle rack The mammoth of Dendermonde has a particular story. In the Sixties, major construction works took place in an aera nearby called the Onolfpolder. During the late Ice Age, swollen rivers deposed a mass of organic materials in that area, like the skeletons of woolly mammoths, and bones from the equally woolly rhinoceros. Up to three tones of bones were shipped off to Brussels for furter examination. Fascinated by all these fossiles, Hugo De Potter, 15 or 16 at that time, started to collect bones himself, hauling huge mammoth bones on the back of his bicycle. Too bad, officials confiscated his collection. But years later, when De Potter had became a paleontologist himself, he discovered his own collecting in a warehouse of the Royal Belgian Intitute of Science. For years, he devoted himself to bring back a mammoth to Dendermonde. The result of his efforts is preserved again for many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Biblical Allegory In The Edenian In a world where popular culture is ever changing, the Bible continues to provide inspiration for many cultural texts. The practice of religion has always been tied to popular music in a symbiotic way (Rauhut, 2017), and representations of the Bible remain prolific in popular music today. Sara Bareilles is an American pop rock and soul artist, who achieved mainstream success with her 2007 song (I m not gonna write you a) love song. Her third album The Blessed Unrest was released in 2013, and features the song Eden (Bareilles, Sara Hales, Matt. 2013), a song that contains heavy biblical connotations. The lyrics of Eden are symbolic of the traditional story of Adam and Eve in Genesis 2 and 3 from the Christian Old Testament, and demonstrate how music continues to be influenced by the Bible in the 21st Century. The song Eden offers an excellent example of the way biblical allegory can be used to retell stories from the Bible through music, however it also shows how popular culture provides alternative interpretations of biblical texts as well. In this essay, I will first explore the world in the text through an in depth analysis of the biblical allegory within the lyrics of Eden, to show how it conveys the traditional story from Genesis 2 and 3. I will then go on to consider the world behind the text; discussing how Eden is inspired by Bareilles own life, and the way artistic decisions made within the song differ from the interpretation of the traditional biblical text. ... • 7. Essay Armor of Ancient Rome Armor of Ancient Rome Ancient Rome expended a great deal of economic resources and effort upon conquest and expansion through military means. The role of armor was fundamental in this expansion as it played a significant role in the success of the Roman armies on the battlefield. There were three common requirements for armor construction throughout its history: The first was that armor had to be flexible enough to allow the wearer freedom of movement; second, it also had to be lightweight enough to be worn without tiring the wearer while providing protection against opponents weapons; and third, armor had to be cost effective. These three aspects influenced the evolution of Roman cuirass (lorica) design throughout Rome s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Further reorganization occurred after the civil war of A.D.69, when the victorious Flavian dynasty dispersed disloyal units. As the Empire s expansion slowed, permanent borders were established. Auxiliaries patrolled the borders and legionnaires were stationed within the frontiers to act as a strategic reserve and intimidate potentially rebellious provinces. The army can be divided into two distinct parts: the legion and the auxiliary ( auxilia), with a marked social division existing between the two. Only Roman citizens could become legionnaires, while auxilia were composed of non citizens recruited from Rome s client states and tribes. These legions were supported by the non citizen auxilia consisting of infantry cohorts and cavalry (alae). A legion consisted of around 5,000 men which were mostly heavy foot soldiers. However, it is only possible to attempt a rough estimate of the men who constituted a legion. It has been estimated that the total number of Roman troops, including legions and auxilia, numbered more than 300,000 during the first century A.D. It has also been assumed that the legionary and auxiliary troops were equipped differently. This notion is based on evidence from a single source, Trajan s column, which shows clear distinctions between legionary and auxiliary equipment. The early view put forward by historians such as Webster was that the equipment issued to legionnaires was remarkably uniform throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Essay on Racist Society in Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird Racist Society in Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird The way I perceive racism would be discrimination and prejudice against somebody with a different skin colour or ethical background. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses racial prejudice as the main subject matter either towards a single person (for example, Tom Robinson) or towards groups of people (for example, the black community in Maycomb.) To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the 1930 s. This is when the blacks have gained equal rights with white people. Bob Ewell is almost if not is, fearful of the blacks as he is seen as the lowest of the low, and he sees there is no definitely defined line between the black community and himself. ... Atticus replies with, No, son, those were our friends. Atticus called them friends because he didn t want to cause any alarm even though Jem was aware of the situation. Jem then shows knowledge of racial politicians , the Ku Klux Klan, by responding to Atticus comment on that he had never heard of a gang in Maycomb. This is an early sign that Jem is growing up and able to see what is happening around him, that he doesn t just automatically accept what he sees. In the novel, racism shows up at both sides of the spectrum, either physical racism or verbal racism. The most severe form of physical racism is in chapter 24 when Tom Robinson is imprisoned and murdered when trying to escape even though he was assured by Atticus that he was confident in winning the case. During his murder, he was shot seventeen times whilst trying to escape the prison. If this was a non racist attack, however, he would have only been shot once in somewhere like the foot to bring him down. In some cases, verbal racism can be just as damaging as physical racism. Take Bob Ewell for example, even though he was the lowest of the low (known as white trash) he was still considered higher than any black person and quite often addressed them as hey ... • 10. Sight And Blindness In Oedipus When most people think of blindness they think of someone who cannot see out of their eyes. However, someone can have their eyesight but be unable to see what is going on around them and the impact they are making in everyday life. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus was blind both metaphorically and eventually physically. Sophocles recurring motif of sight and blindness serves to illustrate Oedipus s own blindness and understanding. Tiresias is physically blind, but sees more into Oedipus than Oedipus can see in himself. Oedipus s lack of self knowledge makes him metaphorically blind. Once he gains knowledge and insight, Oedipus no longer wants his physical sight. Tiresias is a blind prophet who Oedipus calls upon to clarify information from Apollo s oracle. Tiresias is physically blind but has the ability to see metaphorically and make predictions. He is hesitant to reveal to all of his knowledge of Oedipus identity. You, even though you see clearly, do not see the scope of evil, nor where you live, nor with whom you dwell. Do you know your true descent? And secretly you are an enemy to your own kin, both under the earth and on it (433 438). Tiresias knows Oedipus descent and Oedipus needs some self insight to understand the deeds he has committed and the truth of his birth. Oedipus ignorance causes him to be angry and poke fun at Tiresias s blindness. Tiresias s blindness allows him to ponder and self reflect, which Oedipus fails to do which causes his downfall. Theatricality, immediacy, human drama, and descriptive realism of particulars are the four stylistic characteristics from different stylistic periods I am going to pinpoint and describe in the painting. Caravaggio painted it in the year ca. 1597 1601 and it can be found on page 539 of the texbook. The artworks named the Calling of Mathew and Columbus Before the Council of Salamaca are both similar in many ways. They both have the four stylistic characteristics of human drama, immediacy, theatricality, and discriptive realism of particulars. In Columbus Before the Council of Salamaca Powell used the same technique as Caravaggio to create windoms that allow the afternoon sunlight to reflect on the figures at a particular angle. Powell made his windoms visible to the viewer, however Caravaggio did not; he just gave the viewer a sense of having one. They both used light and shadowy dark to create a spot light effect on their figures, the term known as theatricality. Both of these paintings display a great deal of human drama, the first painting show Columbus infront the concil men trying to convince them of his finding, while the second is a babically scene of Jesus Calling Mathew, who was then Levi the tax collector. Those surrounding Jesus were surprise that he wanted a man that must of them thought was the biggest sinner of all to follow him and so were those listening to Mr. Columbus. • 15. Anne Marie Slaughter And Richard Dorment Essay In life we are told to have it all by raising a perfect family, getting a beautiful house, and having a high paying job; but is it possible to have it all? How many people can honestly have it all, when so many are just trying to survive? In the articles, Why Women Still Can t Have It All and Why Men Still Can t Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter and Richard Dorment, discuss how women function in the workplace and the different expectant outcomes for each, mainly focusing on the upper class. The primary objective of Slaughter s passage was to show how women are treated poorly and how they are held to a different standard than their male counterparts. Dorment focused mostly on how neither women nor men should strive to have it all because nobody can. Together they consider the subjects of workplace discrimination, housework standards, family involvement, and striving to have it all. Anne Marie Slaughter constructed the article, Why Women Still Can t Have It All including personal and statistical measures to prove that, though women have come far, they are not to the standard of men. She begins the article informing us of her job as the first female director of policy planning at the State Department in Washington D.C. Sensor based tracking systems mainly rely on contact with the moving object to pick up on signals from movement. Some examples of sensing techniques are inertial, magnetic, and ultrasonic. Optical or vision based system require the object in motion to be seen from the device. Often this includes optical markers that are detected by a camera. Both tracking methodologies and associated devices have their advantages and disadvantages. 2.1 Sensor Based Methods Cyber Gloves are one type of wireless sensor device that can be used in trajectory model for hand gesture recognition (Trajectory Modeling in gesture recognition using cybergloves). Glove attached with sensors determine hand pose by converting sensed finger flexion into electrical signals (Design considerations for a wearable monitor to measure finger posture). Although there are different configurations for cyber gloves, most consists of sensors on the back of the glove that detect finger range of motion and flexion. Inertial measurement units such as accelerometers can measure things such as gesture withdrawal capture movement information about hand rotation, and measure acceleration of movement. Richard Wasserstrom in Sex Roles and the Ideal Society states that in an assimilationist ideal society, a person s sex should be as unimportant as eye color is in our society today.1 But should we just ignore a person s sex all together to make the world equal? A different opinion from Phyllis Schlafly in The Power of the Positive Woman states that sex should be a relevant factor in family roles and social roles.Ā² But should a person s sex completely dictate what they can or cannot do within their family and in society? In this paper I will argue that Wasserstrom s ideal society will not work because I think that eventually humans would naturally make general gender roles based on the different activities that each sex excels in. I agree, to some extent, with Schlafly s that sex should be a relevant factor with reference to roles in the family and society. In my ideal society, there would be a balance in social and family roles, which would be based on an individual s personal strengths and weaknesses. In this utopia, complete equality is possible, unlike in Wasserstrom s and Schlafly s. Wasserstrom s supports the conclusion that to allocate social roles to individuals based on their sex is inherently unjust. He goes through different arguments as to why he thinks we should do away with sex roles. One argument was that within these roles are not the behaviors we would be naturally, but due to these ... These are the type of times when a cop has to be mentally able to handle the situation and provide the most help he can. I one day want to be a state trooper so I know now after this paper that there is a lot to look forward to. When thinking about being thrown into scary situations mentioned above. One of my co workers eats unhealthy food and she barely engages in physical activities. I wonder how this affects her health. The risks of obesity doesn t only affect the physical health of a person but also emotional and psychological. Obesity has become a major public health challenge in the United States. Obesogenic habitat have increased due to the eating of low calorie foods of low nutritional value and the cutback of daily physical activity (e.g., the increased portion sizes of food eaten inside and outside of the home and the reduction of physical activities at home or in schools). In other to prevent obesity, cities and counties have to encourage food retail establishments to promote healthier options through law and inducement. Retail food establishments like, chain restaurants, corner stores, supermarkets, farmers markets, and mobile vendors affect public health. Public officials have advocated a range of policy options to cities for improving access to healthy food and decreasing the popularity of unhealthy food in various retail food settings (Diller and Graff). Paul A. Diller and Samantha Graff convey to readers that Regulating retail food establishments can be a powerful tool for improving a community s food environment, especially in low income food deserts areas that lack full service supermarkets and restaurants and are saturated with fast food restaurants and liquor stores. Cities challenging unusual obesity rates are considering numerous governing policies for expanding the convenience and accessibility of nutritious food, and diminishing the universality of fast food restaurants and obesogenic packaged food. According to the article Regulating Food Retail for Obesity Prevention: How Far Can Cities Go? Diller and Graff indicate that most states grant cities or counties some form of home rule, allowing for broad local policymaking authority. In many home rule states, cities or counties exercise the police power that is, the authority to regulate for the health, safety, and welfare of the community concurrently with the state legislature. This home rule is a form of dividing state and local power that allows municipalities to exercise only those powers directly assigned by state law. In social situations typically the person who commits adultery is shunned from the group of friends. The shunning shows the societal view of adultery which to me is that it is unacceptable. The Criminal Justice System Across The Country Essay The criminal justice system across the country is designed to punish and strive to rehabilitate those who have committed offenses against the law. Compared to some of the harshest regimes in the world, the United States has a harsh history of mass incarceration. American prisons maintain nearly 25 percent of the world s prison population. Of the nearly 2.3 million incarcerated, 1 million are African Americans (NAACP). The poverty stricken in America, especially those who are persons of color, face a greater risk of incarcerated for minor offenses than their white counterparts. People charged and or convicted of crimes are overwhelmingly poor. The Prison Policy Initiative finds that incarcerated people have a median annual income of $19,185 prior to their incarceration which is 41% less than that of non incarcerated individuals of a similar age ( Prisons of Poverty ). Both race and socio economic status plays a critical role in the inequality that takes place in the criminal justice systems. Over the last half century, the total number of those imprisoned has spiked dramatically as crime rates have sharply dropped since the early 1990 s. Experts offer varied explanations for the troubling growth of the American prison industrial complex, including the War on Drugs, harsh mandatory minimum sentences and a system largely incapable of handling suspects with mental health issues (Lee). Type 2 Diabetes is a prevalent and growing epidemic in South Texas, according to the American Diabetes Association. It is the community s duty and obligation to recognize the problems and risk factors that attribute to Type 2 Diabetes, so that further generations can avoid these lifestyle habits. Type 2 Diabetes is an insulin deficiency disease that occurs in people aged 40 or older, and is much more common than Type 1 Diabetes because it can be acquired genetically, but it is more commonly a progressive disease based on the individual s unhealthy lifestyle, which is why adolescents are still at risk to contract Type 2 Diabetes. When a person has Type 2 Diabetes, they may suffer from insulin resistance. The insulin levels in their body are too low, or the cells in a person s body do not respond properlyto the correct amount of insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas that strictly regulates the use and amount of glucose (sugar) levels in an individual s blood. The biggest role they have is in producing, which is getting a script, director, and team (this is the job for the people with enough money to sponsor a big part of the creation). It has little to do in the actual creation of the movie. They make up only twenty five percent in film. In the Supreme Court of Virginia. Ms Butler filed a workman s comp claim, Butler v. Southern States Coop. Workers Compensation is a law that compensates employees when they are injured while working. A company with three employees are less are usually exempt. In workers comp claims, the employer is not able to use contributory negligence, assumption of risk, and the fellow servant rule to their defense. Also, the injury has to be work related. In humans, DMT is thought to be produced by the lungs (Mandel et al., 1972) and by the pineal gland (Cozzi et al., 2011), where it also acts to influence mood, perception and thought. DMT is synthesized from the enzymatic conversion of L tryptophan, which is produced endogenously in plants and is an essential amino acid in animals, to tryptamine, which is then converted to N methyltryptamine, the final precursor for N,N Dimethyltryptamine (Axelrod, 1961). DMT non selectively binds to 5 HT serotonin receptors acting as an agonist or antagonist predominantly in the prefrontal cortex (Strassman, 1996), an area of the brain responsible for mood and emotional processing (Yang and Raine, 2009). As previously mentioned, it s been observed that depressed patients have reduced activity in the prefrontal cortex (Gibb, 2012), so activating this area as well as bringing further release of serotonin is what s thought to treat the depression and increase connections between emotions, actions and thoughts. The psychological benefits gained from this can be profound for some individuals as DMT often promotes the development of personal insights and self knowledge. • 40. Economic Growth And Economic Development Economic growth refers to an increase in the capacity for an economy to produce goods and services as compared from one period of time to another. It can be measured either in nominal terms which include inflation, or in real terms that are adjusted for inflation. It is mainly influenced by unemployment, inflation, technology levels, rate of investment, population growth rate, among other factors. These factors are used further to explain the differences in the varying level of output per capita between and among countries, and explain why some countries are economically growing faster than others. These factors are best represented in both the theoretical and empirical forms through the neoclassical endogenous growth models (Steil, 2013, n.p.). Economic growth revolves around business cycle which include the following phases; depression, growth or expansion, boom and recession. During economic downfalls such as recession and depression phases, it is evident that aggregate demand for both goods and services might be insufficient thus leading to unnecessarily high unemployment rates, low investments and potential losses of economic output. At this phase the economy of a country goes down as some of the investments and savings are used to cater for other basic necessities. Inflation also pins down the growth further as the purchasing power of the current level of income is greatly reduced. As explained by the IS/LM model in the general theory by John Hicks, there are some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Reflection On Calcium I have learned from the computer analysis project that my intake in calcium is low, and my intake in sodium is high. My DRI reports showed me that I am receiving only 31% of the recommended daily value for calcium intake. An appropriate amount of calcium is 1300 mg, but I consumed only 409 mg. My DRI reports also showed me that I consumed above the recommended range for sodium. A deficiency of calcium has serious effects just as a toxicity of sodium does. After reviewing my reports, I learned that I need to change my diet and be more cautious about the amounts of calcium and sodium that I consume. In nutrition class, I learned that calcium is a mineral that an individual needs in order to maintain healthy bones. If an individual does not consume enough calcium than he or she is will be at risk of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a lack of calcium in bones which is a loss of total bone mass, not just minerals. Bones become weak and very brittle. This leads to fractures of the weight bearing bones, such as those in the hips and spines. To prevent osteoporosis, I need to consume the daily recommended value of calcium. Calcium is primarily found in dairy products such as cheese and milk. Throughout September 30th to October 2nd, I did not consume enough dairy products. Out of the 1300mg recommended value for calcium, I only consumed 409 mg. I ate American processed cheese, scrambled eggs and mashed potato which were prepared with milk, but that was not enough to meet the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
