A Short Note On Migraine s Effect Of Migraine For...
Migraine Scientific Research Proposal
Based on Measuring the Impact of Migraine for Evaluating Outcomes of Preventative Treatments for
Migraine Headaches. Authors: Sally Mannix, Anne Skalicky, Dawn Buse, Pooja Desai, Sandhya

Central. Pages 1 11.
Question to be Investigated
Multiple people with migraines experience many difficulties that affect their daily life, overall
contentment of life, ability to live life fully because of the symptoms associate with a migraine
headache. With little support and evidence, it is difficult to find a natural approach to migraine
treatment and to provide relief. If a migraine can be treated naturally, what steps will need to be taken
by the individuals who are seeking relief from migraine pain and improve quality of life?
Hypothesis and Prediction
If environmental factors can cause a migraine attack then changes in an individuals sleep cycle,
food/drink, hormones, external stimuli, weather changes and stress levels will be able to lessen the
severity of a migraine, lessen the symptoms or completely prevent a migraine attack. If the hypothesis
that environmental factors cause a migraine attack is positively supported, then the results will be that
the symptoms of a migraine have

Engineers in the R D department are creating a product with must have features for which (as the
marketing group could have told them) customers will not pay; the sales force is selling customers on
quick turnaround times and customized offerings even though the manufacturing group has just
invested in equipment designed for long production runs; and so on. If you pass a magnet over those
filings, what happens? They line up. Similarly, a well understood statement of strategy aligns behavior
within the business. It allows everyone in the organization to make individual choices that reinforce
one another, rendering those 10,000 employees exponentially more effective. What goes into a good
statement of strategy? Michael Porter s seminal article What Is Strategy? (HBR November December
1996) lays out the characteristics of strategy in a conceptual fashion, conveying the essence of
strategic choices and distinguishing them from the relentless but competitively fruitless search for
operational efficiency. However, we have found in our work both with executives and with students
that Porter s article does not answer the more basic question of how to describe a particular firm s
strategy. It is a dirty little secret that most executives don t actually know what all the elements of
a strategy statement are, which makes it impossible for them to develop one. With

Student Government At Houston Community
Four students voted in favor of changing the fundamental structure of student government at Houston
Community College. The motion passed.
The amendments to HCC s United Student Council constitution is changing the student government
system from Student Appointed Representatives to a senator system akin to how the University of
Houston s student government operates.
The change cuts out one layer of student government, and is intended to make student government
officers more accountable and cooperative district wide.
The only change that is happening is that we will no longer have Student Appointed Representatives,
explained United Student Council President Josue Rodriguez. Instead, students will directly elect their
representatives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When transformation started, all student organizations became district wide organizations, so
technically HCC has had seven operational district wide student government organizations for the past
two years. This change means that the student government at HCC will start operating more like a
single student government organization, not seven.
There were nine students and two student life advisors at the special United Student Council meeting
on Wednesday, April 5 when the vote took place. After some rewording of the amendments, five
students voted: one abstained and four voted in favor. The three students present who were USC
executive officers could not vote. The meeting started late as they group waited for the last student to
arrive so quorum could be met. The vote to amend the USC Constitution took place after the group
voted to suspend the normal parliamentary rules of order.
Although the meeting took place at their normal meeting room on the second floor of the HCC
Administrative building at 3100 Main, it wasn t their normal meeting day. It was changed from their
usual Friday meeting day to a Wednesday for student government officers who were at a convention.
Those officers still didn t attend.
Only Central, Coleman and Southeast were represented at the meeting when the vote took place. To
meet quorum, the United Student Council needed a majority of its executive

The Media s Portrayal Of Asian Americans
Throughout history, the media has been known to be influential towards how individuals of society
perceive the world and their environment. This influence can lead to people creating prejudices
towards those who are highlighted by the media. It also has the ability to change the attitude of one
person towards another class of people and stereotype them in positive, but mostly negative ways. One
population that has played victim to the repercussions of the mass media is Asian Americans, who
have been oppressed and deemed a minority by Americans. The media s portrayal of Asian Americans
has had detrimental effects on one s opportunities, performance, and their perception of the world. The
mass media consists of any means of communication that has the ability to reach a large amount of
people. The term media can refer to movies, television, the newspaper, etc. It is because of it s ability
to out reach to a mass quantity of people that it is able to reinforce and teach societal values. At a
young age, socialization occurs in that it involves the learning of the values and the norms of society
and adopting them into their own personal values (Perse, 2001.) Children often have little life
experience so they learn and imitate their environment whether that be the characters on television or
societal institutions like their families or teachers at school. Adolescents are more susceptible to
socialization in that they are at a period in which they are trying to find

Crossing Flies to Demonstrate Inheritance Patterns
Introduction
Drosophila melanogastor were one of the first organisms chosen to be analyzed and study, since they
are the work force of the genetics research. Back in the early 1900s, researchers such as T.H. Morgan,
H.J. Muller, E. Weischaus, and C. Nisslein Volhard were able to use the organisms to determine how
genes are inherited, how radiation causes DNA damage, and there are genes that controls human
development. In 2000, scientists found over a hundred genes that can be used to study human diseases
because they found a way to sequence the drosophila genome. This organism has been used for
scientific research for decades and is continued to be used because they help scientists and researchers
understand how human processes and their disorders. With the experiment, crossing the flies is to
demonstrate the inheritance pattern of a single and double trait.
Studying and manipulating fruit flies, scientists are able to learn about the human genetics and
understand the function in biology of other organisms. Drosophila can demonstrate Mendelian
inheritance because they can display massive amounts of genes, demonstrate genetic mapping, and
used as genetic crosses. Being able to study these organisms across multiple generations and
understand its life cycle would help with understanding basic genetic concepts, such as trait
inheritance. Learning how to control the breeding is important as well, since interbreeding or mixing
the generations would cause insufficient data.

Prostate Cancer Research Papers
Cancer, one of the worst most detrimental forms of illness a person can receive. Prostate cancer is
cancer that develops in the prostate which is located in the male reproductive system. The cancer
spreads from the prostate to other parts of the body including the bones and lymph nodes. Which
cause difficultly in urinating, pain in the pelvis or back when urinating, and a person with this illness
can experience bloody urine. The majority of people who are diagnosed with prostate cancer are those
who are older in age, have a family background of this caner, and race. Prostate cancer is curable if

Self Motivation In Henley s Invictus And If
When people are faced with challenges in life they tend to deal with the problems in different ways.
The poems Invictus by William Ernest Henley and If by Rudyard Kipling both discuss the hardship of
lives and how to be resilient. In these poems the poet s tones represent that they were going through
times of struggle and need. Both Invictus and If address resiliency; however If better demonstrates this
concept better. The poem Invictus demonstrates resilience through the concept of self motivation.
Henley exhibits this when he states, I am the master of my fate, / I am the captain of my soul (15 16).
This quote is significant because the only thing that can control who someone is and how they act is
their morals which are decided through decisions. The author proposes that he is able to get through
challenges when he states, I thank whatever gods may be / For my unconquerable soul (3 4). This
shows that Henley is confident that he can surpass any challenges that he is faced with. ... Show more

This is shown in the poem when Kipling says, If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, / Or
walk with Kings nor lose the common touch (25 26). This talks about how no matter how successful
someone is in life to always remember those who got them there and to never become cocky. When
the author says this it helps portray this as one of his many recommendations to achieve success. In
the poem Kipling also states, If you can keep your head when all about you / Are losing theirs and
blaming it on you, / If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, / But make allowance for their
doubting too (1 4). This helps describe the author showing encouragement of resiliency by talking
about when someone is being brought down by others and still keeping their head high and doing the
best they can

opportunities in China is also very limited and competitive. Thousands of people might be fighting

Graphic Imagery And Designs Evolve Until Production
The process towards architectural construction takes on many forms, including various design stages.
The graphic imagery and designs evolve until production begins. There are undoubtedly many
considerations into a building s design, which stresses their representation as even more important and
influential to its potential construction. Elevation drawings and plans lay out the details of
construction, they are useful to ensure the structure adheres to any local codes, however more detailed
drawings are required for construction known as final renderings.1 Drawings are therefore a
fundamental form of documentation that informs a building s production. On the other hand, the
emergence of archigram in the post war era encouraged the imagination and was a platform that
challenged previous form of representation. Archigram placed as much influence on the context of the
building and depicting its urban surrounding as much as emphasising the building itself. In addition,
architectural photography provoked the emergence of modern forms and structures; however,
contextualizing buildings within the image was unnecessary. It was believed that architecture could
reform people architecture is the art one lives in and thus rational design could make rational
societies.2 This idea was very much a driving force of representation which drawings, photography
and archigram intended to reform their urban landscape. Unlike detailed drawing which provided an
insight into the scale and

Strategic Bombing During World War 2
World War 2 was a war fought in two distinct phases. The first was the last war of a new generation.
The second was emphatically the first of a new era . br br The British strategic bomber campaign was
of doubtful cost effectiveness . Bomber Command was by far the largest claimant on labour and
factory space within the armed forces. Relative to their size they suffered more casualties than any
other sector. br br The Anglo American bomber force was divided in terms of strategy. Bomber
Command believed it was too risky to bomb by day, while the Americans believed it was too difficult
to bomb by night. Initially both forces lacked accurate navigational equipment, which deterred them
from precision bombing. br br Germany developed a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The morale of the German people was not affected enough to effect their war waging capacity. Neither
a maintenance of productivity nor a rebuilding of industry could have been achieved by means of
compulsive but only by virtue of the voluntary response of German workers . br br It was assumed
that bombing raids would be made in the daylight. In August 1940 German bombers suffered heavily
in daylight even though they were escorted. This helped to confirm to Bomber Command that night
bombing was the best policy. Bomber Command flew night missions over Germany during the winter
of 1940 1941 in the belief their bombs had fallen within about 300 yards of their targets. This figure
was plainly wrong, a new assumption was made. The R.A.F decided the average error was closer to
1000 yards, which meant that Bomber Command could not be expected to hit targets as small as oil
facilities, until they had been equipped with vastly improved navigational aids. The U.S.A.A.F
opposed Bomber Commands view, they believed accurate bombing could only be achieved during the
day. They assumed unescorted bombers flying in well designed formations could penetrate the
German lines. On 14th October 1943, 60 out 291 flying fortresses were shot down by German fighters
during the last major raid on Schweinfurt. The formation had been obliged to fly 400 miles without
fighter cover. The Americans suspended daylight

Analysis Of Wit By Alex Rogo
In chapters ten through twelve, Alex Rogo is trying to explain to his employees, the meaning of
throughput, inventory and operational expense. Throughput is money coming in. Inventory is the
money currently inside the system and operational expense is the money we have to pay out to make
throughput happen. Discussion takes place regarding how anything that is considered an investment
and can be sold is part of inventory, including the buildings, machines, etc.
Alex then had discussion with Jonah regarding managing capacity. According to Jonah, a managed
plant is one where the capacity of each and every resource is balanced exactly with demand from the
market. He explains that a plant where everyone is working all the time is not efficient.

What Were The Political And Social Changes During The...
Progressive Era Reform Essay
Through the years 1890 and 1920, many changes occurred. This time was called the Progressive Era,
and during the time period, there were new political and social changes. New laws that the public
wanted were enforced, and new opportunities came to a rise. Many of the changes that took place
affected a lot of people. During the progressive era, many political and social changes took place.
Some political changes that took place were the recall, direct election of senators, referendum, and the
initiative just to name a few. The recall was a process by which people may vote to remove an elected
official from office. This reform helped get rid of corrupt officials. Another political reform was the

Some of the social changes were women s rights, conservation, and minority groups fighting against
discrimination. Women s rights was a big thing back then. Women started entering higher professions
and becoming doctors and lawyers. They fought to protect women and children. They also raised
money for libraries, schools, and parks. In 1919, women got the right to vote after working hard for
several years. Conservation was really important back then and still is to this day. Conservation means
the protection of natural resources. Roosevelt loved the outdoors and worried about the destruction of
the wilderness, so he pressed for conservation. Roosevelt also had thousands of acres of land set aside
for national parks, which is a natural area protected and managed by the federal government. Minority
groups fighting against discrimination was also a social change that occurred in the progressive era.
Some of these minority groups were Mexican Americans, African Americans, Jewish Americans,
Asian Americans, and Catholics. The NAACP worked for equal rights for African Americans.
Mexican Americans formed mutualists, or mutual aid groups who helped each other. Catholics were
looked down upon and because of discrimination, the set up their own schools called parochial
schools, or schools sponsored by a church. Many of these minority groups just wanted to be treated
equally and not be judged. Those are some social changes that took place in the progressive

In Favor of Gun Ownership in the US
The ownership of a firearm should not be illegal when most gun owners are law abiding citizens who
use guns in a responsible manner. Our country s founding fathers ratified the second amendment as a
part of our Constitution in order to protect citizen s right to bear arms and to be prepared for foreign
invasion. However, currently the views on gun ownership are beginning to differ even more in urban
and rural communities across America because of how each society is individually affected by the use
of firearms. Many Americans who rely on concealed weapons are women and even families while
some Americans are not yet permitted to keep a firearm like school staff and store owners. Also many
sheriffs across the United States oppose gun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Legal Action Project determined that the main purpose of writing the Second Amendment was to
make sure that the federal government would not be able to disarm the militia. Also during the late
eighteenth century colonists and even the Founding Fathers wanted reassurance that in case of a
standing army there would be a militia ready for a counterattack. The author, James Madison,
obviously guarantees that the right to bear arms is a collective right of all the people not just the
government s army (Dolan Jr. 71). However many argue that the second amendment only refers to our
country s organized army, not the whole population. Their reason for this is that no country should put
their lives in the hands of mere civilians. Alexander Hamilton specifies that there are actually two
militias; the first is organized, while the second consists of the rest of the people (Dolan Jr. 47). There
is no surprise when people hear about how the gun control is openly despised in rural communities.
Areas centered on agriculture and or the great outdoors are focal points of recreational firearms use,
whether it is for hunting or just target practice. Often children are taught in these areas how to load,

Cuba Human Geography
Cuba has been the source of controversy for decades. Between events such as the Bay of Pigs invasion
and the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s and the country s ongoing Communist dictatorship, this
island nation has not always been thought of as an appealing place to visit. However, Cuba s physical
and human geography, especially when coupled with the lifting of the US embargo, give it the
potential to be a prime tourism destination. Cuba first gained importance in the 1560s, when the
Spanish built Havana as a center to keep and build navy ships. During the 1700s, it primarily profited
from sugar plantations, though it also made money from cattle farming, tobacco, and coffee. Cuba
primarily exported the sugar it produced to Spain, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although only certain Americans will be able to visit Cuba at first, there is the potential to allow free
travel between the two countries in the future (Marsh, 2016). Because Americans make up over half of
all Caribbean tourist arrivals, they would likely add Cuba to their itineraries when visiting the region.
Another potential sector for development is ferry service from Florida to Cuba. These ferries would
easily allow Floridians to make quick weekend trips to the Caribbean, and even bring their car by
using one of the larger drive on ferries (Padilla McElroy, 2007, p. 650). In addition to ferries, Havana
could become a port of call for the hundreds of cruise ships that sail through the Caribbean each week.
Although the Port of Havana is currently only suitable for smaller ships with a maximum length of
755 feet, the government is sure to realize the huge potential economic benefit from cruise ships and
construct larger areas for them to dock (Port of Havana). Another way Americans will be able to visit
Cuba in the future is by plane. Currently, the United States Department of Transportation is reviewing
bids submitted by airlines in February for various routes between the United States and Cuba. Flights
are expected to be rewarded to airlines over the summer and to begin around October. Competition

What makes them different ?
Girls and Boys Town is under the guidance of adults, the kids actually govern themselves, electing
their Mayor, Councillors and Managers who make the rules and see that they are kept. This capitalises
on the teenage desire to be admired and respected by their peers.

Hmong Culture Case Study
Over a period of time, the Hmong people have immigrated from country to country due to oppression
from governments and due to their involvement in wars. For this reason, Hmong people are now
found living scattered across the globe (Tatman 2004). With no country to call home, they fled to the
hillsides and mountain tops of nearby neighboring countries. As a result, the Hmong people had to
reestablish their communities and families wherever the settled. Although the Hmong s lacked a

A Wireless Sensor Network ( Wsn )
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous sensors
to monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure,
humidity, motion or pollutants and to cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main
location. The WSN is built of nodes from a few to several hundreds or even thousands, where each
node is connected to one (or sometimes several) sensors. Each such sensor network node has typically
several parts: a radio transceiver with an internal antenna or connection to an external antenna, a
microcontroller, an electronic circuit for interfacing with the sensors and an energy source, usually a
battery or an embedded form of energy harvesting [23].
Fig. 1.1 : Multi hop wireless sensor network
1.1 Event Driven Mechanism for WSN
In event driven wireless sensor network, instead of sending periodic observation when an event of
interest occurs, the sensing node also sends the messages additionally for reporting an event. In this
context, it can be explicitly specified that not all the sensing nodes need to report an event.
Theoretically, sending messages by all the nodes whenever an event occurs will result in integrity of
data, but in real time scenario, it becomes tricky as it results in redundancy and overload of
information, that in turn results in depletion of energy and thus, the lifetime of the sensor node gets
reduced. In wireless sensor

An insane man suffocates and stifles an innocent old man because he does not like the old man s pale
blue, vulture like eye, yet he claims to be sane. In The Tell Tale Heart , by Edgar Allan Poe, the main
character, the narrator, is haunted by an old man s pale blue eye. The narrator is haunted so much by
the eyes that he decides to get rid of the eye, even if it meant getting rid of the old man too. In the end,
the narrator ends up a telling the police where he concealed the old man s dead body to the police, on
account of him being insane. Even though the narrator claims to be sane, I can tell by his actions,
thoughts, and words, that he is clearly insane. The narrator loves the old man but is haunted but the
old man s evil eye. The narrator makes up his mind to kill the old man and to get rid of the eye. The
text states, It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted
me day and night. Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never
wronged me. He had never given me insult.

they just don t know what it means. According The United States Department of Justice website, the

The Cause Of Gun Violence
According to the Virgin Islands Police Department s public information officer as quoted in the VI
Consortium (Gilbert, 2016, para. 4), violence is increasing and is expected to continue rising and reach
60 non vehicular homicides by the end of the year in the territory. Within the same VI Consortium
article (Gilbert, 2016, para, 5), the Governor of the Virgin Islands, Kenneth Mapp was quoted as
saying [t]he violence is going to be brought under control, but there is going to be more violence and
there s going to be more homicides and more shootings before we arrest this problem because we have

Many educators might believe that teaching gun safety skills is the role of the parents, while the
parents might assume that the educators are taking on that role. The role of educating children about
gun safety skills should be equally implied by the parents and the educators, both having an outline of
required regulations they should discuss with accurate and modern information. The results of this
research might persuade the Department of Education to implement a course or a mandatory part of
the curriculum to discuss and prevent gun violence and administer proper and firearm safety

The Transportation Of Cargo Transport
Executive summary
Thousands of airports all over the world handle cargo attracting both big and small companies into the
industry. The transportation of cargo is an indicator of how the international trade is performing and
shows the position of the global economy. With the economies of countries growing wider every day
the demand for consumer goods increases. The supply chain exists so that manufacturers can be
connected to the suppliers and the middlemen to the shippers till it reaches the end user. Airports play
an important part in the cargo transport hence there is the need to understand the relationship that
exists between the two industries. This paper will be addressing the important role of airports in the
transportation of cargo. It will highlight the marketing strategies that are used by airports to attract
cargo lines. It will also reveal the characteristics of the major airports.
Introduction
Air freight is an important contributor to UK s economy making the country notable in the
international trade arena. Air transport helps in improving the competitiveness of companies
operations such as logistics and the management of inventory. According to Oxford Economic
Forecasting report (2013) shows that twenty five percent of the companies in UK consider airport
services to be very important to them in ensuring smooth running of their cargo. In UK the freight
industry accounts for 55% of all the cargo transported especially the perishable goods which can only

Comparing Taming Of The Shrew And Zeffirelli s
One s true sentiments lie buried beneath what seems to be multiple layers of personal propaganda.
However, despite these fabricated personas deceiving most, may only be seen through by those who
dare to look further; those who remain unfooled by the performance. This statement abides intact for
Katherina Minola, one of William Shakespeare s protagonists in The Taming of the Shrew, as well as
the protagonist for the Zeffirelli Burton production of the same name, with Elizabeth Taylor as
Katherina. Throughout both works, the portrayal of Katherina is a fiercely independent and quite
violent woman who suffers great internal conflicts hidden by this shrewish personality, yet the
Zeffirelli Burton production spares little room for interpretation ... Show more content on

Perhaps due to the egregious difference in the perception of a character when acted out by a human
being, Katherina appears to be more violent and physical in her behaviours compared to her character
in the play. For instance, during her argument with Bianca in the play, she simply strikes her once
before the interference of Baptista. However, Katherina chases her through the corridors of the Minola
residence with a large sword acting as a threat, as she unabatingly enjoins her to confess which suitor
she favours. Destroying furniture and throwing items during the process of her beseeching Bianca for
a confession, Katherina almost uses the sword on her as she flies towards her in a stabbing stance,
until the appearance of Baptista interferes with her intention to impale her younger sister. In
comparison with the pure striking of Bianca in the play, Katherina presents herself as not only more
physically violent, but more malicious and willing to cause injury, indicating a greater temper as well.
In addition, Katherina s violence ensues with her first encounter with Petruchio. Arriving at the
Minola residence to woo Katherina, she is not at all impressed by his first appearance. When the two
are placed into solidarity and Petruchio quite suddenly proposes to Katherina, she becomes enraged by

La Belle Dam Sans Merci Essay
The poem La Belle Dame Sans Merci by John Keats is a ballad that expresses all of Keats
philosophies of happiness and the ideal world while, at the same time, being an enchanting love story
on a simpler level. The poem contains his pleasure thermometer which leads to Keats idea of
happiness. The poem also contains Keats vision of an ideal world where nothing ends or dies.
The poem begins with a narrator questioning a Knight at arms. The Knight is seen wandering around
lifelessly and listlessly. Not only is he lifeless, but, around him, the whole forest is dying as well. The
sedge has withered from the Lake/ And no birds sing! (Keats, p506 lines 3 4) The Knight is feverish, a

Keats wrote in a letter to George Keats that he was delighted with Canto V in which Dante meets
Paulo and Francesca. Keats tells George that he had a delightful dream that he was in Hell with those
guilty of carnal sins. He is whirling around with all the sinners, as is the punishment in that area of
Hell, with his lips pressed against those of a beautiful woman. He wrote that he was pressed against
her it seem d for an age. (Kauvar122) Soon after this letter he wrote On a Dream and La Belle Dame
Sans Merci. The inspiration for both poems, according to Kauvar, had a lot to do with Canto V.
It is interesting that an experience that, in Dante, was supposed to be torture and was intended as a
punishment for sinners is a delightful experience to Keats. The punishment is torture because is goes
on forever. Paulo and Francesca are forever joined and endlessly whorled about; they have tired of
each other, as they would have soon after their affair if they hadn t died. By being forced to commit
the same act over and over again they no longer enjoy it, they abhor it. To Keats, however, being
forced to constantly relive the intense experience of love forever and ever is a joy. This is what Keats
ideal world is.
Keats pleasure thermometer is easily revealed through an analysis of the Knight s narrative. In the first
three stanzas of his narrative, the Knight

Review Of Gramsci s Political Thought The Prison...
AJ FAAS 3 4 08 A REVIEW OF GRAMSCI S POLITICAL THOUGHT IN THE PRISON
NOTEBOOKS [DRAFT DO NOT CITE WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THE AUTHOR]
Antonio Gramsci was an Italian communist scholar, journalist, and activist who served as a deputy
member of the Italian Parliament, representing the Italian Communist Party (PCI), which he helped to
establish in 1923. In the wake of the triumph of Mussolini and the Italian fascists in 1926, Gramsci
was sentenced to 20 years in prison in order to prevent his thought from spreading (Crehan 2003:17).
From 1926 to 1937, when he was released from prison only to die one week later, Gramsci composed
thirty two notebooks (over 2,350 printed pages) which has come to be regarded as his greatest work
and an unfinished classic of Marxist thought (Simon 1991; Crehan 2002). The fact that he composed
these great works while he was in prison and during a time of political turmoil that provoked him has
particularly confounding effects on the reader. First, these notebooks were hand written in prison and
he frequently revisits or elaborates on earlier notes throughout the journals. They are therefore not
organized under coherent headings to facilitate a systematic interpretation of his thoughts. Some
editors organize the notes under their own themes, and Gramsci himself at times inserts instructions
that one passage should be tied to another, but some imposed order is always inevitable. Second,
Gramsci, though in prison, was very much informed, and

Social audit procedure.
The social audits are really important in order to implement the social standards. They aim to make an
assessment of the company s situation and offer the possibility to dicuss about the solutions wich the
company can develop in order to respect rules and laws.
There is three main steps for a social audit :
The mission framing: like any other audit, before starting the audit a prescriber has to send a letter
explaining his demand. This step permit to the auditor to clarify many points like : the targeted
objectives, the mission organisations conditions, the area on wich the audit is based.
The mission realization : the auditor is then going to define the reference table of the audit, in
particular by mobilizing standards, norms, codes of conduct and procedures (internal or external),
conventions or international recommendations, etc. and to draft and make share the guide of audit
before the realization of his mission. During the audit the auditor will regroup many information with
different tools (observation, interviews, questionnaires, etc)

Essay about Persevering Literature
The novel Sense and Sensibility was truly a masterpiece. Written by Jane Austen this ironic love story
has captured the heart of readers for years. The popularity of Austen as a novelist can now be
experienced through film. This book has been adapted into various screenplays, including one by
Emma Thompson. Another version of the film was done by the BBC. Perhaps it is the manner in
which it was filmed, the character choices or other aspects of the films that make them so different.
Though they are based upon the same novel it is to be sure that the Emma Thompson version will
preserve Austen s talent in the world of film.

It is not to say that it is not an educational version. This lower budget allowed for the full development
of the characters in a way a short made for Hollywood film can not. Yet it is not to the taste of many of
those in today s audience.
One scene in the film in which Marianne and Elinor discuss the prospect of Edwad Ferras is handled
quite differently in each of the films. In Thompson s Marianne visits Elinor s bedroom as she is
settling in for the night to discuss Elinor s true feelings about her time spent with Mr. Ferras. This
scene is exciting in that it shows the girls talking quietly in the night about a rather taboo subject. The
idea that Marianne comes to Elinor s bedroom suggests the matter is of an intimate nature, as it surely
is. In the BBC version the girls are propped on a see saw type apparatus. This suggests a type of
disagreement between the two while still maintaining an understanding. They shift their weight and
ideas back and forth while still supporting wash other. This is a more literal depiction of their feeling
about the matter.
Another notable scene is of the conversation between Fanny Dashwood and Mrs. Dashwood as to the
high hopes the family has for Edward. In the BBC there more of Fanny s cruelty is revealed through
her comments concerning the china and furniture in the house. Mrs. Dashwood s character is
developed further when she defends herself against Fanny s malice.

Many readers of the book The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Nightime by Mark Haddon may

death to Christopher. The father is doing his best to take care of a special kid who does not fully
understand human emotions and feelings which creates a barrier to the outside world. As the book
progresses the father does hit Christopher, but that is a simple reaction to Christopher s persistent
pushing around. Eventhough alcohol creates some of the anger in the father, the alcohol I think is a
coping mechanism for the father to get over his wife leaving him. Christopher s father really loves his

Hector Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique
Review: Symphonie Fantastique
Symphonie Fantastique is the first full musical outpouring of romanticism composer, Hector Berlioz.
Hector Berlioz is a French composer, a microcosm of the romantic era. Symphony Fantastique is a
quintessential example of romantic programmatic music. It is a novel, unlike poetry. It is free of
structural form; based on Berlioz being under the influence and remembering of an unattainable
woman. There are five movements; his first tempers his depression, his love and jealousy which then
rage to religious consolation. The second movement is about his encounter with her at ball. The third
movement consists of him seeking peace while wandering in the countryside only to have her disrupt
his peace.
There is a slow introduction; you get a sense of longing in the music suggesting that Berlioz is feeling
sad before he saw his lady friend. The symphony plays a slow introduction in a classical sonata style.
The muted strings play a sort of veiled tune and it fits Berlioz s romantic spirit. The orchestra gives off
a dreamlike condition and the melody provides a sense of loneliness, and despair, a description of how
Berlioz feels. The key it is being played in is C minor.
In the first movement a recurrent theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

descending and the tempo increases. Idèe Fixe is incorporated as soon as Berlioz sees the woman
again and then it slowly fades away because the waltz takes over as she disappears into the crowd. The
music becomes livelier. At the end there is a whirling rush and the movement ends because cause

Why Is The Battle Of Vimy Ridge Significant
The Battle of Vimy Ridge Significant or not significant?
Johnathan Hua April 14 2016
The Battle of Vimy Ridge is historically significant because a vast amount of people were affected.
The battle of Vimy Ridge was a critical battle during the Allied offensive called the Arras offensive. It
was a great Allied victory. It started an unbroken chain of victories for the Canadian Corps. This essay
will be explaining why The Battle of Vimy Ridge is historically significant by having multiple
perspectives, many people affected and what long lasting consequences occurred.
The Battle of Vimy Ridge was historically significant because there were a wide range of stakeholders
that had different perspectives on Vimy Ridge. Many Canadians thought that it was a great victory for
Canada. The Germans thought of it as a draw at best for the Canadians because there wasn t a
breakthrough following the victory. Some historians thought the battle was just a myth created by
Canada because the battle occurred on Easter Monday, giving it religious significance. Historians also
believe that it was not a very significant event because no breakthrough occurred after the battle. They
believe that other battles, for example Amiens, were far less known, had more effect on ... Show more

Paul urges in 1 Corinthians 14:39 40 that speaking in tongues should not be forbidden, and be done in
order. Brand, Draper and England add in their commentary, There is no compelling reason to believe
that ecstatic utterance is the same thing as the Biblical gift of tongues. (1606). There exists no
restriction for personal prayer (1 Corinthians 14:18 19), however should not be used in public places
without an interpreter, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:28. This would compromise the edifying
design for unbelievers. Much controversy has been raised over 1 Corinthians 13 and what is said to be
valid . Those negating the validity of speaking in tongues typically use 1 Corinthians 13:8 10 as the
basis for their argument. However, the verse is comparing eternal with temporal things. This is Paul s
way of emphasizing peace in abiding things (like faith, hope and love) versus division for the sake of
the tongues controversy to the church (Smith). Verse 10 also brings about the discussion of what Paul
refers to as perfect . Even though, those belonging to the Negative School argue that which is perfect
is to be the full canon of the Bible, there is nothing that suggests that the Holy Spirit will stop moving
through this gift. When moving down to verse 12, it speaks of the time that the bride of Christ shall
come face to face with her groom. Because Jesus is the personification of perfection, I believe this

The Use Of Rggt Inhibitors Doesn t Exhibit Any Toxicity...
The use of RGGT inhibitors doesn t exhibit any toxicity in mouse models (Taylor et al., 2011). This is
supported by comparison to gunmetal mice that harbour a RGGT mutation leading to 80% reduction
of RGGT function. There are mild dysfunctional phenotypes such as hypopigmentation and altered
platelet synthesis. This suggests that a decreased RGGT activity, such that Rab proteins would be
hypoprenylated, would not be lethal if targeted (Recchi and Seabra, 2012). The decrease in RGGT
activity is only specific to certain tissues, leading to the idea that this mutation does not affect all Rabs
equally (Hume, et al. 2001).
NE10790 is a phosphonocarboxylate analogue of the more potent bisphosphonate risedronate (BP
RIS), and contains a carboxylate group instead of a phosphonate group. NE10790 is a specific
inhibitor of RGGT, whereas BPs are non specific inhibitors of Rab prenylation. They act on farnesyl
diphosphate synthase to inhibit prenylation of a variety of proteins such as Rho and Ras, seen in
Figure 9 (Gong, Altman and Klein, 2011). The use of BPs in clinical trials has been successful in
decreasing mortality from lytic bone disease in multiple myeloma. There is also evidence of anti
tumour effects, such as apoptosis and arresting the cell cycle, as well as in other tumour cell types
associated with bone. BPs have also been investigated in vitro on breast and prostate cancers, as they
commonly metastasise to bone. Studies show inhibition of invasion and adhesion to bone,

The Term Cochlear Amplifier, Coined By Thomas Gold
The term cochlear amplifier, coined by Thomas Gold in 1948, can be described as a positive feedback
mechanism whereby outer hair cells amplify displacements of the basilar membrane in the cochlea. It
characterises the collection of processes that increase sound vibrations in the inner ear (Ashmore Gale,
2004). Sounds are generated by movement of air molecules that create changes in air pressure. These
changes in pressure are called compressions, when the molecules are closer together, and rarefication,
when the molecules are less densely packed and are cyclic, thus making a pressure wave. The human
auditory system is able to respond to these pressure waves over a range of about 20 hertz (Hz) to
20,000 Hz. The intensity of a sound is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This electromotility of the OHCs has been attributed to the motor protein, prestin, which is embedded
in the cell membrane, and it is the role of these mechanical changes that has been identified in
amplifying the vibrations of the cochlea in the transduction of sound (Zheng et al., 2000). The
outcome is an enhancement of the basilar membrane amplitude by more than one hundred times
(Davies, 2014).
The key to the cochlea amplifier mechanism is the prestin motor protein as it is this that underlies the
activity of the OHCs. On the apical surface of sensory hair cells are finger like projections, forming
hair bundles, called stereocilia. These stereocilia bathe in a cochlear fluid containing about 145 mM of
potassium which is called endolymph. The deflection of a single stereocilium invokes a pull on a
spring which links to the tip of the neighbouring stereocilium and thus pulls it in the same direction. A
domino effect subsequently occurs until the whole hair bundle has been moved. This process causes
mechanically gated transducer channels, which are non selectively permeable to cations and are
located at the base of the tip links, to open. This provides a passage for potassium to enter the hair
cells down its electrochemical gradient as the electric potential of the endolymph, +80 mV, is much
greater than that of the hair cell body, between 55 mV and 70

The Epidemic Of The United States Essay
The earliest human records attest to the fact that human beings have been using addictive narcotics
since we were hunter gatherers. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, physicians prescribed
drugs like opium, morphine, cocaine and even heroin in the United States. (Crocq 355) Currently,
these substances are either highly regulated or they are outright illegal. The irony here is that the the
largest pharmaceutical companies or Big Pharma as they are better known, are selling the general
public narcotics that are just as addictive and harmful as what the many gangs in the United States are
selling to their customer base. The last statement may sound extreme, however, the third leading cause
of death after heart disease and cancer are prescription drugs both in the United States and in Europe.
(Gotzche 628) Unfortunately, these pharmaceutical companies are not satisfied with just making us
addicts, they are also bankrupting the American consumer and our health care system. The statistics of
deaths and the criminal practices of these pharmaceutical companies are distressing, however, it is not
surprising since their main objective is to maximize profits. First, let us take a look at some of the
offenders. Five of the top ten pharmaceutical companies are located in the United States and the other
five are European companies, all of these companies combined, employ approximately 787,000
people. The ranking of the following pharmaceutical companies are based on

The Specialization Of Domesticated Animals
1 In this context, the word domestication mean the way crops are changed by the hand of Humans.
2. Food sources, especially cereal crops, were easy to domesticate due to the conveniences of having
multiple tiny seeds and being able to spread the seeds in comparison to having to plant one bulb at a
time, harvesting cereal takes less time and less effort.this process resulted in the production and
development, advancement of survival in that environments.
3. Humans domesticated animal s by learning to get the animals to listen, some of these tactics were
feeding them, taking over a heard by concurring the leader to that animal species. There was some
qualities or realization that humans had to look for in an animal while domesticating them. Humans
had animals domesticated to provide a convenience. They reaped many benefits such as milk clothing
meat with protein and fertilizer, it also created a system of having less labor than gathering. some
animals were not domesticated because they were not able to be tamed while the ones that were was

The Secret In Their Eyes Film Analysis
After watching both films The Secret in Their Eyes(2009) and Missing(1882), many ideas and
concerns ran throughout my head. Many civilians were kidnapped and later killed. Those were big
concepts happening during the films and that was done great by the director Juan José Campanella.
The disappearance and assassination of both Argentines and Chileans made these films similar. The
Secret in Their Eyes(2009) is a film written by Eduardo Sacheri and the director Juan José
Campanella. The film was released in August 13, 2009. The film took place in during the mid 1970s in
Argentina. During 1976 is the time is when the Argentina s Dirty War was happening. The Dirty War
was a war in Argentina when the military had power and was there to overthrow Isabel Peron. As
Galeano stated, The same process of repressing and strangling the people occurred under Ongania in
Argentina (Galeano, 212 213). More the 30,000 civilians were kidnapped and raped or tortured then
were killed by the military. Some were most likely killed and others disappeared.

consulate to find help but they weren t any help. It seemed to me that the consulate knew what had
happened to Charles but they didn t want to tell them. When the consulate finally decided to tell
Edmund and Beth that Charles had been murdered and buried in a wall, it was very tragic. Edmund
was furious and was going to sue the American consulate. If I were Edmund, I would have done the
same. It seemed as if the consulate didn t care if Charles was found or not. The Americans had

Native American Art Essay
Native american culture is packed with many different things. In this paper I will be writing about
what I researched and found about Native American art. Native American art is made up of many
different forms and techniques. It plays an important role in what makes up native American culture
and tradition, some of which is still around today,. In Native American s daily life was simply not
possible without the arts, there are many different types and forms, some common types include
painting, basket weaving, and wood carving, many of these things have progressed today and are
displayed in museums and created over again by new generations. What is Native American art?

To create Native American common and tradition art they used different tools, some including, rocks,
feathers, cloth, clay, and fabric. Native americans also used material from animals like fur and bones.
They would never hunt for sport and used every last part of what they hunted and didn t let any part of
their animals go unused. To get pigments and different colors they would use plants and different
kinds of berries to mix and get the desired colors they wanted. They were known for having many
bright colors to represent what they love. There are many, forms, and genres of Native American art, a
common one is painting. The earliest form of painting that we know of, dates back all the way to 4000
b.c. These paintings have been found in caves, rock shelters, and clay plasters and were usually
applied with a fibre brush. Many designs are in forms of both supernatural and natural ideas and
scenarios, it was a way to tell and visualize stories. Painting was also used to decorate things like
pottery and instruments. This form of art was probably the most popular. Another common form of art
was basket weaving, this form of art was very useful. They used these baskets for things like storing
and protecting foods and supplies. They were also used to get things from place to place. The baskets
were weaved with different grasses, wood and ash splints, bark, or bundled pine

Importance of Mountains in Kerouac s Dharma Bums and Barthelme s The Glass Mountain
Mountains are significant in the writing of Jack Kerouac and Donald Barthelme as symbolic
representations of achievement and the isolation of an individual from the masses of the working class
in industrialized capitalist American society. The mountains, depicted by Kerouac and Barthelme, rise
above the American landscape as majestic entities whose peaks are touched by few enduring and
brave souls. The mountains of Kerouac s The Dharma Bums symbolize personal freedom and
accomplishment through achieving a connection with nature distant from the constraints of
materialism and a polluted industrialized American society. Barthelme s ... Show more content on

The mountains, being so colossal, have many levels and plateaus in which some people may find
comfort and a sense of accomplishment where they may choose to live out the remainder of their
lives, although they are far from the peak. Morley s decision to stay behind while Japhy and Ray
continue their climb to the peak of Matterhorn is comparable to Barthelme s depiction of the crowd on
the streets watching cynically as their hero climbs to the golden castle of the glass mountain. This
crowd symbolizes the growing middle class, comfortable in their conformity as working stiffs and
homemakers who do not want to risk their current contentment for a chance to reach the heights of
American capitalism. Morley is content to remain a dreaming spot by the little lake in the eyes of Ray
Smith who is miles ahead on the mountain questioning his own decision to tackle the frightening
height of the Matterhorn. (p.82). Morley represents, through his actions, Americans living
comfortably, yet always dreaming the American dream to be more successful, powerful, or rich as he
says I don t think I can make it. Ill wait here (P. 81). The plateaus in the Glass Mountain are equally
represented by small cubicles inside

Analysis Of The Book The First Thing
The first thing I noticed that was unique about the way the book was written was that the entire novel
takes place in just a single day. Woolf gives the reader so many details, seemingly ordinary ones such
as Clarissa going to buy flowers for her party, mending her dress, meeting old acquaintances, etc.
However, these everyday interactions (combined with the character s inner thoughts) create a very
clear and complex image of social class, the perception of time, loneliness/being alone (not physically,
but mentally because of self repression), and lastly, the devastating effects of war (as shown by
Septimus s mental condition).
From early on in the book, the reader can tell that social class is a very big part of British society.

She even admits that her and Miss. Kilman may have gotten along, but not in this world . Proving just
how important social class is.
Yet, while Clarissa follows the heavy class based system of British society, she also finds herself
limited by it. Forcing her to alter her identity to play the expected part in society and maintain her
social status/class. She admires Sally, and how she would voice her opinions and do things her own
way no matter what anyone else thought of her, in a way she envies her for having the freedom she
never had. There is a big gap between what Clarissa thinks and what she does/how she allows people
to perceive her. Even mentally stifling her own ideas that do not fit into the role she is attempting to
play. This leads directly into her feelings of loneliness because while she interacts with a lot of people
and is married, there is a distance between her true self and everyone else. Throughout the book, the
reader is given insight to how each character perceives another vs. what they actually say out loud, if
they say anything at all. This gives the reader the ability to see this distance between everyone, even
Clarissa s own husband is unable to tell her that he loves her, yet he really does love her on the inside.
There are several other forms of repression, such as

Of Mice And Men Regret Analysis
Every one in the world has probably felt regret from time to time, whether its something small or
something huge. In John Steinbeck s novella, Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck shows multiple examples
of regret and what it can do to a person. This is a story of two friends who are seeking a better life and
their own place. However, in this search they encounter many problems that prevent them from
achieving their dream. The author shows us the many forms of regret and how it affects people. One
of the earliest examples of regret is on page eleven when George was lecturing Lennie about grabbing
a woman dress. George felt a little regret after he said, ... I wisht I could put you in a cage with about a
million mice an let you have fun. It was clear

Socrates In Plato s The Apologia
The Apologia
Through the analyzing of The Apologia, is it learned much about the life of Socrates as well as how he
lived. In the Apology, Plato recounts the words given by Socrates during his trying in which he was
sentenced to death. During the trial, Socrates defends himself on two charges, which are set in writing
by Meletus, one of the prosecutors. The first set of charges Socrates refers to them as the first lying
accusations , and are informal charges to set an image of who people believe Socrates to be. The
second set makes up the formal accusations and the charges that they hope commit Socrates to death.
The speech was given by Socrates to defend himself to the Athenian Council against chargers of
corrupting the young, and by not believing in the gods the city believes that are in the novel. Although
no such speech was recorded, with the idea that Plato was at the trial, we can conclude that the
dialogue of the Apologia contains words as they were remembered by Plato. The original speech was
written in 399 BC in hopes of Socrates defending his reputation against his accusers. The speech was
then rewritten by Plato as remembers the trial and words . Socrates. addresses each charges in the
attempt to convince the Men of Athens that he was not who his accusers claim for him to be. ... Show

With little support and evidence, it is difficult to find a natural approach to migraine treatment and to provide relief. If a migraine can be treated naturally, what steps will need to be taken by the individuals who are seeking relief from migraine pain and improve quality of life? Hypothesis and Prediction If environmental factors can cause a migraine attack then changes in an individuals sleep cycle, food/drink, hormones, external stimuli, weather changes and stress levels will be able to lessen the severity of a migraine, lessen the symptoms or completely prevent a migraine attack. Engineers in the R D department are creating a product with must have features for which (as the marketing group could have told them) customers will not pay; the sales force is selling customers on quick turnaround times and customized offerings even though the manufacturing group has just invested in equipment designed for long production runs; and so on. If you pass a magnet over those filings, what happens? They line up. Similarly, a well understood statement of strategy aligns behavior within the business. It allows everyone in the organization to make individual choices that reinforce one another, rendering those 10,000 employees exponentially more effective. What goes into a good statement of strategy? Michael Porter s seminal article What Is Strategy? (HBR November December 1996) lays out the characteristics of strategy in a conceptual fashion, conveying the essence of strategic choices and distinguishing them from the relentless but competitively fruitless search for operational efficiency. However, we have found in our work both with executives and with students that Porter s article does not answer the more basic question of how to describe a particular firm s strategy. It is a dirty little secret that most executives don t actually know what all the elements of a strategy statement are, which makes it impossible for them to develop one. With ... • 4. Student Government At Houston Community Four students voted in favor of changing the fundamental structure of student government at Houston Community College. The motion passed. The amendments to HCC s United Student Council constitution is changing the student government system from Student Appointed Representatives to a senator system akin to how the University of Houston s student government operates. The change cuts out one layer of student government, and is intended to make student government officers more accountable and cooperative district wide. The only change that is happening is that we will no longer have Student Appointed Representatives, explained United Student Council President Josue Rodriguez. Instead, students will directly elect their representatives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When transformation started, all student organizations became district wide organizations, so technically HCC has had seven operational district wide student government organizations for the past two years. This change means that the student government at HCC will start operating more like a single student government organization, not seven. There were nine students and two student life advisors at the special United Student Council meeting on Wednesday, April 5 when the vote took place. After some rewording of the amendments, five students voted: one abstained and four voted in favor. The three students present who were USC executive officers could not vote. The meeting started late as they group waited for the last student to arrive so quorum could be met. The vote to amend the USC Constitution took place after the group voted to suspend the normal parliamentary rules of order. Although the meeting took place at their normal meeting room on the second floor of the HCC Administrative building at 3100 Main, it wasn t their normal meeting day. It was changed from their usual Friday meeting day to a Wednesday for student government officers who were at a convention. Those officers still didn t attend. • 5. The Media s Portrayal Of Asian Americans Throughout history, the media has been known to be influential towards how individuals of society perceive the world and their environment. This influence can lead to people creating prejudices towards those who are highlighted by the media. It also has the ability to change the attitude of one person towards another class of people and stereotype them in positive, but mostly negative ways. One population that has played victim to the repercussions of the mass media is Asian Americans, who have been oppressed and deemed a minority by Americans. The media s portrayal of Asian Americans has had detrimental effects on one s opportunities, performance, and their perception of the world. The mass media consists of any means of communication that has the ability to reach a large amount of people. The term media can refer to movies, television, the newspaper, etc. It is because of it s ability to out reach to a mass quantity of people that it is able to reinforce and teach societal values. At a young age, socialization occurs in that it involves the learning of the values and the norms of society and adopting them into their own personal values (Perse, 2001.) Children often have little life experience so they learn and imitate their environment whether that be the characters on television or societal institutions like their families or teachers at school. Adolescents are more susceptible to socialization in that they are at a period in which they are trying to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Crossing Flies to Demonstrate Inheritance Patterns Introduction Drosophila melanogastor were one of the first organisms chosen to be analyzed and study, since they are the work force of the genetics research. Back in the early 1900s, researchers such as T.H. Morgan, H.J. Muller, E. Weischaus, and C. Nisslein Volhard were able to use the organisms to determine how genes are inherited, how radiation causes DNA damage, and there are genes that controls human development. In 2000, scientists found over a hundred genes that can be used to study human diseases because they found a way to sequence the drosophila genome. This organism has been used for scientific research for decades and is continued to be used because they help scientists and researchers understand how human processes and their disorders. With the experiment, crossing the flies is to demonstrate the inheritance pattern of a single and double trait. Studying and manipulating fruit flies, scientists are able to learn about the human genetics and understand the function in biology of other organisms. Drosophila can demonstrate Mendelian inheritance because they can display massive amounts of genes, demonstrate genetic mapping, and used as genetic crosses. Being able to study these organisms across multiple generations and understand its life cycle would help with understanding basic genetic concepts, such as trait inheritance. Learning how to control the breeding is important as well, since interbreeding or mixing the generations would cause insufficient data. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poems Invictus by William Ernest Henley and If by Rudyard Kipling both discuss the hardship of lives and how to be resilient. In these poems the poet s tones represent that they were going through times of struggle and need. Both Invictus and If address resiliency; however If better demonstrates this concept better. The poem Invictus demonstrates resilience through the concept of self motivation. Henley exhibits this when he states, I am the master of my fate, / I am the captain of my soul (15 16). This quote is significant because the only thing that can control who someone is and how they act is their morals which are decided through decisions. The author proposes that he is able to get through challenges when he states, I thank whatever gods may be / For my unconquerable soul (3 4). This shows that Henley is confident that he can surpass any challenges that he is faced with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the author says this it helps portray this as one of his many recommendations to achieve success. In the poem Kipling also states, If you can keep your head when all about you / Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, / If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, / But make allowance for their doubting too (1 4). The graphic imagery and designs evolve until production begins. There are undoubtedly many considerations into a building s design, which stresses their representation as even more important and influential to its potential construction. Elevation drawings and plans lay out the details of construction, they are useful to ensure the structure adheres to any local codes, however more detailed drawings are required for construction known as final renderings.1 Drawings are therefore a fundamental form of documentation that informs a building s production. On the other hand, the emergence of archigram in the post war era encouraged the imagination and was a platform that challenged previous form of representation. Archigram placed as much influence on the context of the building and depicting its urban surrounding as much as emphasising the building itself. In addition, architectural photography provoked the emergence of modern forms and structures; however, contextualizing buildings within the image was unnecessary. It was believed that architecture could reform people architecture is the art one lives in and thus rational design could make rational societies.2 This idea was very much a driving force of representation which drawings, photography and archigram intended to reform their urban landscape. Bomber Command was by far the largest claimant on labour and factory space within the armed forces. Relative to their size they suffered more casualties than any other sector. br br The Anglo American bomber force was divided in terms of strategy. The morale of the German people was not affected enough to effect their war waging capacity. Neither a maintenance of productivity nor a rebuilding of industry could have been achieved by means of compulsive but only by virtue of the voluntary response of German workers . br br It was assumed that bombing raids would be made in the daylight. In August 1940 German bombers suffered heavily in daylight even though they were escorted. This helped to confirm to Bomber Command that night bombing was the best policy. Bomber Command flew night missions over Germany during the winter of 1940 1941 in the belief their bombs had fallen within about 300 yards of their targets. This figure was plainly wrong, a new assumption was made. The R.A.F decided the average error was closer to 1000 yards, which meant that Bomber Command could not be expected to hit targets as small as oil facilities, until they had been equipped with vastly improved navigational aids. The U.S.A.A.F opposed Bomber Commands view, they believed accurate bombing could only be achieved during the day. They assumed unescorted bombers flying in well designed formations could penetrate the German lines. Discussion takes place regarding how anything that is considered an investment and can be sold is part of inventory, including the buildings, machines, etc. Alex then had discussion with Jonah regarding managing capacity. Women started entering higher professions and becoming doctors and lawyers. They fought to protect women and children. They also raised money for libraries, schools, and parks. In 1919, women got the right to vote after working hard for several years. Conservation was really important back then and still is to this day. Conservation means the protection of natural resources. Roosevelt loved the outdoors and worried about the destruction of the wilderness, so he pressed for conservation. Roosevelt also had thousands of acres of land set aside for national parks, which is a natural area protected and managed by the federal government. Minority groups fighting against discrimination was also a social change that occurred in the progressive era. Some of these minority groups were Mexican Americans, African Americans, Jewish Americans, Asian Americans, and Catholics. The NAACP worked for equal rights for African Americans. Mexican Americans formed mutualists, or mutual aid groups who helped each other. Our country s founding fathers ratified the second amendment as a part of our Constitution in order to protect citizen s right to bear arms and to be prepared for foreign invasion. However, currently the views on gun ownership are beginning to differ even more in urban and rural communities across America because of how each society is individually affected by the use of firearms. Many Americans who rely on concealed weapons are women and even families while some Americans are not yet permitted to keep a firearm like school staff and store owners. The Legal Action Project determined that the main purpose of writing the Second Amendment was to make sure that the federal government would not be able to disarm the militia. Also during the late eighteenth century colonists and even the Founding Fathers wanted reassurance that in case of a standing army there would be a militia ready for a counterattack. The author, James Madison, obviously guarantees that the right to bear arms is a collective right of all the people not just the government s army (Dolan Jr. 71). However many argue that the second amendment only refers to our country s organized army, not the whole population. Their reason for this is that no country should put their lives in the hands of mere civilians. Alexander Hamilton specifies that there are actually two militias; the first is organized, while the second consists of the rest of the people (Dolan Jr. 47). There is no surprise when people hear about how the gun control is openly despised in rural communities. Between events such as the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s and the country s ongoing Communist dictatorship, this island nation has not always been thought of as an appealing place to visit. However, Cuba s physical and human geography, especially when coupled with the lifting of the US embargo, give it the potential to be a prime tourism destination. Cuba first gained importance in the 1560s, when the Spanish built Havana as a center to keep and build navy ships. During the 1700s, it primarily profited from sugar plantations, though it also made money from cattle farming, tobacco, and coffee. Cuba primarily exported the sugar it produced to Spain, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although only certain Americans will be able to visit Cuba at first, there is the potential to allow free travel between the two countries in the future (Marsh, 2016). Because Americans make up over half of all Caribbean tourist arrivals, they would likely add Cuba to their itineraries when visiting the region. Another potential sector for development is ferry service from Florida to Cuba. These ferries would easily allow Floridians to make quick weekend trips to the Caribbean, and even bring their car by using one of the larger drive on ferries (Padilla McElroy, 2007, p. 650). In addition to ferries, Havana could become a port of call for the hundreds of cruise ships that sail through the Caribbean each week. Although the Port of Havana is currently only suitable for smaller ships with a maximum length of 755 feet, the government is sure to realize the huge potential economic benefit from cruise ships and construct larger areas for them to dock (Port of Havana). Another way Americans will be able to visit Cuba in the future is by plane. It is a tale of faith, courage and sympathy one that enchanted the imagination of the world and changed the way South Africa cares for challenged youth. Founded by the late Bishop Reginald Orsmond in 1958 and based on the principles of Father Flanagan s famous Girls Boys Town in Nebraska, USA, Girls Boys Town has granted thousands of children of all races, genders, faith and languages a new beginning. Most of them arrive here with broken dreams, sick at heart and in body too. Some have been physically or sexually abused, forgotten or abandoned. Some come from broken homes, do badly at school, have discipline issues, and lack social skills. What makes them different ? Girls and Boys Town is under the guidance of adults, the kids actually govern themselves, electing their Mayor, Councillors and Managers who make the rules and see that they are kept. This capitalises on the teenage desire to be admired and respected by their peers. Our eight registered Children s Homes four large Youth Development Centres and four community family homes offer residential care to children whose own families cannot cope and who don t do well in foster care. • 18. Hmong Culture Case Study Over a period of time, the Hmong people have immigrated from country to country due to oppression from governments and due to their involvement in wars. For this reason, Hmong people are now found living scattered across the globe (Tatman 2004). With no country to call home, they fled to the hillsides and mountain tops of nearby neighboring countries. As a result, the Hmong people had to reestablish their communities and families wherever the settled. Although the Hmong s lacked a formal government and a central leader, Hmong families were often lead by a dominant male figure within the family who was responsible for the decision making and wellbeing of the group (Long 2008). A Wireless Sensor Network ( Wsn ) CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, humidity, motion or pollutants and to cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main location. The WSN is built of nodes from a few to several hundreds or even thousands, where each node is connected to one (or sometimes several) sensors. Each such sensor network node has typically several parts: a radio transceiver with an internal antenna or connection to an external antenna, a microcontroller, an electronic circuit for interfacing with the sensors and an energy source, usually a battery or an embedded form of energy harvesting [23]. Fig. 1.1 : Multi hop wireless sensor network 1.1 Event Driven Mechanism for WSN In event driven wireless sensor network, instead of sending periodic observation when an event of interest occurs, the sensing node also sends the messages additionally for reporting an event. In this context, it can be explicitly specified that not all the sensing nodes need to report an event. Theoretically, sending messages by all the nodes whenever an event occurs will result in integrity of data, but in real time scenario, it becomes tricky as it results in redundancy and overload of information, that in turn results in depletion of energy and thus, the lifetime of the sensor node gets reduced. Perhaps due to the egregious difference in the perception of a character when acted out by a human being, Katherina appears to be more violent and physical in her behaviours compared to her character in the play. However, Katherina chases her through the corridors of the Minola residence with a large sword acting as a threat, as she unabatingly enjoins her to confess which suitor she favours. Destroying furniture and throwing items during the process of her beseeching Bianca for a confession, Katherina almost uses the sword on her as she flies towards her in a stabbing stance, until the appearance of Baptista interferes with her intention to impale her younger sister. In comparison with the pure striking of Bianca in the play, Katherina presents herself as not only more physically violent, but more malicious and willing to cause injury, indicating a greater temper as well. He wrote that he was pressed against her it seem d for an age. (Kauvar122) Soon after this letter he wrote On a Dream and La Belle Dame Sans Merci. The inspiration for both poems, according to Kauvar, had a lot to do with Canto V. It is interesting that an experience that, in Dante, was supposed to be torture and was intended as a punishment for sinners is a delightful experience to Keats. The punishment is torture because is goes on forever. Paulo and Francesca are forever joined and endlessly whorled about; they have tired of each other, as they would have soon after their affair if they hadn t died. By being forced to commit the same act over and over again they no longer enjoy it, they abhor it. • 28. Review Of Gramsci s Political Thought The Prison... AJ FAAS 3 4 08 A REVIEW OF GRAMSCI S POLITICAL THOUGHT IN THE PRISON NOTEBOOKS [DRAFT DO NOT CITE WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THE AUTHOR] Antonio Gramsci was an Italian communist scholar, journalist, and activist who served as a deputy member of the Italian Parliament, representing the Italian Communist Party (PCI), which he helped to establish in 1923. In the wake of the triumph of Mussolini and the Italian fascists in 1926, Gramsci was sentenced to 20 years in prison in order to prevent his thought from spreading (Crehan 2003:17). From 1926 to 1937, when he was released from prison only to die one week later, Gramsci composed thirty two notebooks (over 2,350 printed pages) which has come to be regarded as his greatest work and an unfinished classic of Marxist thought (Simon 1991; Crehan 2002). The fact that he composed these great works while he was in prison and during a time of political turmoil that provoked him has particularly confounding effects on the reader. First, these notebooks were hand written in prison and he frequently revisits or elaborates on earlier notes throughout the journals. They are therefore not organized under coherent headings to facilitate a systematic interpretation of his thoughts. Some editors organize the notes under their own themes, and Gramsci himself at times inserts instructions that one passage should be tied to another, but some imposed order is always inevitable. Hector Berlioz is a French composer, a microcosm of the romantic era. Symphony Fantastique is a quintessential example of romantic programmatic music. It is a novel, unlike poetry. It is free of structural form; based on Berlioz being under the influence and remembering of an unattainable woman. There are five movements; his first tempers his depression, his love and jealousy which then rage to religious consolation. The second movement is about his encounter with her at ball. The third movement consists of him seeking peace while wandering in the countryside only to have her disrupt his peace. There is a slow introduction; you get a sense of longing in the music suggesting that Berlioz is feeling sad before he saw his lady friend. The symphony plays a slow introduction in a classical sonata style. The muted strings play a sort of veiled tune and it fits Berlioz s romantic spirit. The orchestra gives off a dreamlike condition and the melody provides a sense of loneliness, and despair, a description of how Berlioz feels. The key it is being played in is C minor. There exists no restriction for personal prayer (1 Corinthians 14:18 19), however should not be used in public places without an interpreter, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:28. • 35. The Use Of Rggt Inhibitors Doesn t Exhibit Any Toxicity... The use of RGGT inhibitors doesn t exhibit any toxicity in mouse models (Taylor et al., 2011). This is supported by comparison to gunmetal mice that harbour a RGGT mutation leading to 80% reduction of RGGT function. There are mild dysfunctional phenotypes such as hypopigmentation and altered platelet synthesis. This suggests that a decreased RGGT activity, such that Rab proteins would be hypoprenylated, would not be lethal if targeted (Recchi and Seabra, 2012). The decrease in RGGT activity is only specific to certain tissues, leading to the idea that this mutation does not affect all Rabs equally (Hume, et al. 2001). NE10790 is a phosphonocarboxylate analogue of the more potent bisphosphonate risedronate (BP RIS), and contains a carboxylate group instead of a phosphonate group. NE10790 is a specific inhibitor of RGGT, whereas BPs are non specific inhibitors of Rab prenylation. They act on farnesyl diphosphate synthase to inhibit prenylation of a variety of proteins such as Rho and Ras, seen in Figure 9 (Gong, Altman and Klein, 2011). The use of BPs in clinical trials has been successful in decreasing mortality from lytic bone disease in multiple myeloma. There is also evidence of anti tumour effects, such as apoptosis and arresting the cell cycle, as well as in other tumour cell types associated with bone. The Term Cochlear Amplifier, Coined By Thomas Gold The term cochlear amplifier, coined by Thomas Gold in 1948, can be described as a positive feedback mechanism whereby outer hair cells amplify displacements of the basilar membrane in the cochlea. It characterises the collection of processes that increase sound vibrations in the inner ear (Ashmore Gale, 2004). Sounds are generated by movement of air molecules that create changes in air pressure. These changes in pressure are called compressions, when the molecules are closer together, and rarefication, when the molecules are less densely packed and are cyclic, thus making a pressure wave. The human auditory system is able to respond to these pressure waves over a range of about 20 hertz (Hz) to 20,000 Hz. The intensity of a sound is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This electromotility of the OHCs has been attributed to the motor protein, prestin, which is embedded in the cell membrane, and it is the role of these mechanical changes that has been identified in amplifying the vibrations of the cochlea in the transduction of sound (Zheng et al., 2000). The outcome is an enhancement of the basilar membrane amplitude by more than one hundred times (Davies, 2014). The key to the cochlea amplifier mechanism is the prestin motor protein as it is this that underlies the activity of the OHCs. On the apical surface of sensory hair cells are finger like projections, forming hair bundles, called stereocilia. These stereocilia bathe in a cochlear fluid containing about 145 mM of potassium which is called endolymph. The deflection of a single stereocilium invokes a pull on a spring which links to the tip of the neighbouring stereocilium and thus pulls it in the same direction. A domino effect subsequently occurs until the whole hair bundle has been moved. This process causes mechanically gated transducer channels, which are non selectively permeable to cations and are located at the base of the tip links, to open. This provides a passage for potassium to enter the hair cells down its electrochemical gradient as the electric potential of the endolymph, +80 mV, is much greater than that of the hair cell body, between 55 mV and 70 ... Importance of Mountains in Kerouac s Dharma Bums and Barthelme s The Glass Mountain Mountains are significant in the writing of Jack Kerouac and Donald Barthelme as symbolic representations of achievement and the isolation of an individual from the masses of the working class in industrialized capitalist American society. The mountains, depicted by Kerouac and Barthelme, rise above the American landscape as majestic entities whose peaks are touched by few enduring and brave souls. This crowd symbolizes the growing middle class, comfortable in their conformity as working stiffs and homemakers who do not want to risk their current contentment for a chance to reach the heights of American capitalism. • 46. Analysis Of The Book The First Thing The first thing I noticed that was unique about the way the book was written was that the entire novel takes place in just a single day. Woolf gives the reader so many details, seemingly ordinary ones such as Clarissa going to buy flowers for her party, mending her dress, meeting old acquaintances, etc. However, these everyday interactions (combined with the character s inner thoughts) create a very clear and complex image of social class, the perception of time, loneliness/being alone (not physically, but mentally because of self repression), and lastly, the devastating effects of war (as shown by Septimus s mental condition). From early on in the book, the reader can tell that social class is a very big part of British society. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She even admits that her and Miss. Kilman may have gotten along, but not in this world . Proving just how important social class is. Yet, while Clarissa follows the heavy class based system of British society, she also finds herself limited by it. Forcing her to alter her identity to play the expected part in society and maintain her social status/class. She admires Sally, and how she would voice her opinions and do things her own way no matter what anyone else thought of her, in a way she envies her for having the freedom she never had. There is a big gap between what Clarissa thinks and what she does/how she allows people to perceive her. Even mentally stifling her own ideas that do not fit into the role she is attempting to play. This leads directly into her feelings of loneliness because while she interacts with a lot of people and is married, there is a distance between her true self and everyone else. Throughout the book, the reader is given insight to how each character perceives another vs. what they actually say out loud, if they say anything at all. This gives the reader the ability to see this distance between everyone, even Clarissa s own husband is unable to tell her that he loves her, yet he really does love her on the inside. • 48. Socrates In Plato s The Apologia The Apologia Through the analyzing of The Apologia, is it learned much about the life of Socrates as well as how he lived. In the Apology, Plato recounts the words given by Socrates during his trying in which he was sentenced to death. During the trial, Socrates defends himself on two charges, which are set in writing by Meletus, one of the prosecutors. The first set of charges Socrates refers to them as the first lying accusations , and are informal charges to set an image of who people believe Socrates to be. The second set makes up the formal accusations and the charges that they hope commit Socrates to death. The speech was given by Socrates to defend himself to the Athenian Council against chargers of corrupting the young, and by not believing in the gods the city believes that are in the novel. Although no such speech was recorded, with the idea that Plato was at the trial, we can conclude that the dialogue of the Apologia contains words as they were remembered by Plato. The original speech was written in 399 BC in hopes of Socrates defending his reputation against his accusers. The speech was then rewritten by Plato as remembers the trial and words .
