How Does Goal Displacement Affect Society
Everyone has those times when they wonder about where they are in life and if they truly are doing
the best they are capable of. That statement there is one of the most glossed over issues in society. We
are always told what needs to be done, and how to get it done in good quality and time. Businesses
and people in general are relying more and more on goal oriented ideals, which isn t a bad thing,
except for when it becomes a straight routine and monotonous. Then we have the problem of goal
displacement. Goal displacement is the process that occurs when the rules become an end in
themselves rather than a means to an end and organizational survival becomes more important than
achievement of goals. (Merton, 1968). Goal displacement is becoming ... Show more content on

Whether that be as simple as a to do list or as complicated as a bucket list, or even having a budget to
go by. With more of people s lives becoming goal oriented we are seeing more rise in goal
displacement. Although, by far this is the hardest portion of society to tell signs because each person
has very different lives, and goes about them differently too. But just the same, the signs are there
when you look at the public on a larger scale. So many people have an outstanding debt, and yet, still
spend money making that debt greater. They don t have much of a choice considering the economy,
right? Wrong. The world may run on money, but there are programs that help manage debt while
people still go about their lives, and I am not talking about welfare. Welfare is where the goal
displacement is happening for people, because it s a federal program meant to help those in need until
they can get back on their feet, not to become their main income source. Don t let the rules become an
end for yourselves in pursuing a higher status or being a part of a better income bracket. Yes, it may
take time and seem unattainable, but time is all some have so why not use it for the good of yourselves

Fear In Lord Of The Flies
When I was home alone as a kid I struggled to deal with fear, now if I was alone on a island with other
kids I don t know how I would cope with that fear. Well in lord of the flies, (a book about a bunch of
boys who are stuck on an island with no adults) the kids struggle to deal with the fear they experience.
In chapter 9, of the book after the kids have dealt with fear of the Beastie for almost the entire book
they go on a rampage and form a mob which ended up killing Simon (who they believed to be the so
called Beastie ), who just before that who had met the Lord of the Flies . In this essay I will be writing
about how the kids in Lord of the Flies were affected by fear. Chapter 9 in the book The Lord of the

Techniques of Interrogation
Techniques of Interrogation
One of the best training programs to implement into the police department is the Reid interrogation
techniques. Interrogation and interviewing techniques became popular in 1947 by John E. Reid and
Associates. Joseph P. Buckley stated that The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation is
now the most widely used approach to question subjects in the world (Buckley P. J., 2000). There
three parts to the Reid process for solving a crime. The first stage that should be taking is to collect
and analyze relative information from the crime scene thing that offers insight to the possible suspect
and determine the direction an investigation should take. The second stage of the process interviewing
people of interest using Behavior Analysis Interview (BAI) (Buckley P. J., 2000). The Behavior
Analysis Interview is a non accusatory process that allows detectives to interview a suspect using a
question and answer procedure to provoke a suspect to show non verbal truthfulness or deception. The
third stage, if the offender has not admitted to the crime an accusatory interrogation is administered
(Leave no marks, 2007). The Reid interrogation technique is believed to be a fail proof technique
,however, there are some reservations against using this technique on juvenile offenders
(Constitutional Law(n.d). Implementing the Reid technique into the police departments learning
curriculum will truly

Rise Of Rome Research Paper
The Great Rise of Rome and Latin In the ancient Italian peninsula, numerous languages were spoken
in many different regions. The most influential, extending to modern times, is Latin. Latin was the
vernacular of the region of Latium; the same region that gave rise to the remarkable city of Rome.
Rome was perhaps the greatest empire to have taken shape in history, exerting an infinite amount of
influence in politics, medicine, civilization, military, and language. While Rome spread her borders,
Latin would soon become the lingua franca of the Mediterranean world and beyond. The war against
the vast Carthaginian Empire that enabled the Romans to rule the known world and establish their
long lasting influence will be examined.

Carthaginian forces retreated back to North Africa. Rome, however, was still not satisfied. Ceterum
autem censen Carthaginem esse delendum! or Carthage will be destroyed! said Cato the Elder (Nardo
pg. 32). By this time, Carthage had largely lost all her influence in the Mediterranean, and was
reduced to North Africa, until the final Punic war, when the Romans took over North Africa. Carthage
held out against the Romans as a mere city for three more years. Finally, the Romans decisively
gathered one last force, and breached Carthage s city walls. What ensued was a horrific

Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Analysis
The short story Girl by Jamaica Kincaid, gives us a keen illustration of the relationship between a
mother and daughter living in a post colonial society. Although the Mother s intention is to pass on
helpful advice, we can see where the mother imposes her traditions on her daughter. Also, we can also
deduce that the relationship between the two is molded by the expected behavior of women in society.
The expected behavior of the girl by society is what subsequently leads the mother to make such
forceful demands of her daughter. In this essay, I will focus on the role of women in society, and how
tradition affects the relationship between the mother and daughter. In this literary piece, the mother
and the daughter engages in a conversation where the story is told from the perspective of the
daughter. The daughter only speaks twice, once to defend herself and another toward the end of the
story. This shows the extent to which her mom dominated the relationship and how little control the
girl has in the relationship with her mother. She also asks her daughter, Is it true you sing Benna in
Sunday School? (Line 7) Benna developed as a form of prohibition music against slavery and was
considered a scandalous type of music by those who were Christians and went to Sunday school . Her
mother warned her against singing Benna as it was deemed bad by society. Although the mother may
be the domineering figure in the relationship, it is clear her intentions are good and she wants the best
for her daughter. The advice she passes on is very helpful to the girl such as soaking salt fish to reduce
the saltiness of the food, not to walk on the road with her bare head in the sun, how to grow dasheen
so it does not itch your throat, etc. Some of the advice she tries to impart on her may not be necessary
and could be overbearing on the daughter. She tries to make her daughter lady like and dress and
behave appropriately, this is how to hem a dress when you see the hem coming down and so to
prevent yourself from looking like the slut I know you are so bent on becoming . (Line 15) She also
constantly reinforces the idea that her daughter is headed in the direction of becoming sexually
promiscuous although this may not

Plato s Interpretation Of Utopia
Plato and Aristotle shared many differences despite also sharing a teacher student relationship. This
essay will strive to establish their understandings of reason and the role reason plays in their
comprehensions of politics, differentiating between the kinds of reason and politics produced as a
result.
Plato is regarded as the first writer of political philosophy while Aristotle is recognised as the first
political scientist. Plato s interpretation of Utopia is founded upon the existence of three separate
classes: the producers, the auxiliaries and the guardians. Plato envisions the guardians as wise rulers
whom are best placed in positions of absolute authority. Plato understood it to be the role of the
guardians to be the select few who know what is best for society.
On the other hand, Aristotle is not concerned with perfecting society. Aristotle emphasizes public and
private realms and structures of society. This
Plato and Aristotle by Carlos Cortiglia 2
means that he is interested in the ideals which are expressed in the laws and customs of a state and he
also focuses on public opinion as views expressed by the people living in a given state. Unlike Plato,
Aristotle believe that politics must respect and be based on ideals and views and makes of these ideals
and views the means to improve existing society.
This essay will first diverge into the philosophical

Stimulants And Depressants Essay
The effect of stimulants and depressants on the body and mind is a topic area that should be closely
examined. Depressants and stimulants are two of the most common types of substances that are
abused. While it is clear that some stimulants and depressants have positive attributes. For example,
Adderall a stimulant used with children with ADHD who need help focusing, and Xanax a depressant
used for those who may have increased anxiety. Although are widely used, they have addictive
qualities, especially with prolonged use. Differentiating between the two categories is imperative
because they affect the body and mind in two different ways. Stimulants increase activity in the
individual using the drug, while depressants slow down activity. The ... Show more content on

they are knowledgeable it has raised my comfort level with regard to addressing clients who mix
alcohol with medication prescribed or not. It is important to be direct, but also educate a client on the
harm they can cause by using both things. If it is a case that substance abuse is not the reason for the
mixing of the two, but just a lack of knowledge, educating the client is still important. I would want
my client to be informed about how the harmful interactions can affect them physiological and
psychological. When it comes to a pregnant woman, my comfort level may be decreased due to their
emotional vulnerability, but approaching it in a therapeutic, nonjudgmental way, should alleviate any
discomfort. It would be imperative to educate the mother on the effects substance has not only her, but

The Marketing Environment And Marketing Mix Of A Firm
In this report, I have used marketing concepts to analyze the marketing environment and marketing
mix of a firm, which has achieved superior performance. I have chosen one of the most famous and
oldest retailer in the UK, Marks Spencer.
Marks Spencer is one of the best well known British department stores. It was founded by Michael
Marks and Thomas Spencer in 1884 (M S, 2014). It started as a market stall at Kirkgate Market in
Leeds. Nowadays, M S has transformed to an international multi channel retailer with 798 stores in
UK and 455 international stores (M S, 2014). According to its annual report this year, it has earned a
total revenue of £10.3 billions over the last year. (M S, 2014)

Therefore Plan A is launched in 2007 (M S, 2014). It is a plan that promotes ethical trading,
environmentally friendly and sustainability. For example under this plan, M S has developed a
programme that trains suppliers with their rights, as well as support some disadvantaged supply chain
workers. With the help of Plan A, M S has established a good relationship with their suppliers and also
earn them a place of high rated ethical trading company.
Maintaining good relationship with the suppliers is very important. If one of the suppliers suddenly
refuses to supply material to M S, they can find another suppliers immediately. Therefore M S has
never failed on the supply of materials.
➢ Customers
M S mainly target the consumer market rather than business and government market. The objective of
M S is not only maximizing their profit, but also increase customer satisfaction and their loyalty. M S
target their customers on the upper class of the society that means people with higher income, and also
healthy eaters in the society. Their target customers mostly aim at improving their quality of lives,
concerning about the product quality rather than prices. So M S devote their effort on improving the
quality of their products so as to increase customer s satisfaction. According to Baber Smith, M S have
seen as producing good quality products with good values (Baber Smith, 2009).

we make sustainable plans about our future generation. Our present generation continue to consume
more resources than what is presently in production, thus increasing consumption level which have

A Summary Of The Bhagavad Gita
I have found the book The Bhagavad Gita to be very appealing. I have never been exposed to the
Indian culture but while reading this book it seems that they have similar beliefs than we do, just
quoted differently. Detachment was one of their practices I found interesting. Reasons to be detached
is greatly explained in this quote, Those who are compulsively attached to the results of action cannot
really enjoy what they do; they get downcast when things do not work out and cling more desperately
when they do (55). This quote is simply saying that we as a whole are not focused on what we should
be doing, we only focus on what we are doing to be perfect. If we act without worrying we may even
be able to enjoy ourselves instead. Even though detachment is practiced in the Indian culture,
everyone should practice it. In the religion I participate in, we tend to put value on everything. Some
people may not want to read the Gita or practice any of their practices due to the fact that it may not
be their religion. I feel that you should really view certain things without judging. I would consider
practicing detachment in order to help ease tension. When you are attached to someone or somethings,
anything can happen to it which cares you to feel a certain way. However, if you were practicing
detachment, you wouldn t really care if something happens to it. You also wouldn t be as hurt; this is
when you find yourself thinking everything happens for a reason. The saying everything

Analysis Of Mile Davis The Birth Of Cool Jazz
The development of cool jazz in the late 1950s defines the culmination of the style into popular
mainstream culture. Mile Davis The Birth of Cool defines a masterpiece that projected an image of an
African American cool cat that played a refined, mellow, and sophisticated style of jazz. Davis would
become a central figure in the cool jazz movement due to his rebellious attitudes towards society, as
well as the drug related criminal culture that he exuded as a countercultural figure in conservative
white America. The Birth of the Cool provided a major record release, which was founded on
minimalist instrumentation and selective note playing as a common theme of cool jazz stylistics
during the late 1950s. In contrast to Bebop, Davis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The etymology of cool typically defined a hip person in African American that displayed a relaxed or
nonchalant countenance. The use of this word in Chisholm s Cool Kind Daddy Blues and Huston s
The Gilded Six Bits illustrates a popularized way to express an individual with a cool demeanor in the
arts. This type of cultural label helped to establish cool jazz as an expression of this African American
lifestyle in the jazz community. The deviant nature of the jazz lifestyle is another major part of the
Cool jazz , which made it cool to be seen as a rebellious in terms of criminal behavior and drug usage.
The cool trend in the early 1950s began with album releases, such as Classics in Jazz: Cool and Quiet

Modern Music Orchestra was also a major influence on cool jazz , which revealed the racial diversity
of jazz in white groups that expanded on African American influences. Jazz artists, such as Chet Baker

of the 1950s defined the end of cool jazz as a dominant movement in jazz, but it defines the origins
and development of a relaxed and nonchalant style of playing that made a huge impact on jazz

Methyl Orange Synthesis Lab Report
Experiment 11B consisted of synthesizing methyl orange, a synthetic dye, and testing this dye s
coloring quality and effectiveness as a pH indicator. Methyl orange is an acid base indicator. In a pH
of greater than 4.4, it becomes a yellow solution with a negatively charged sulfonate ion. When
submerged into a solution with a pH less than 3.2, the dipolar red ion (helianthin) predominates.
Methyl orange is a type of azo dye, which is commonly found in food, fabric, paint, and other brightly
colored products. The general structure consists of the N5N functional group sandwiched between two
aromatic species. Azo dyes are brightly colored because of their extensive conjugated system which
gives rise to a strong chromophore. The exact color depends on both the nature of the aromatic group
and the substituents. Methyl orange is synthesized through an azo coupling reaction between a
diazonium ion and N,N dimethylaniline. An electrophilic aromatic substitution causes the positively
charged diazonium ion to act as the electrophilic species. In the first step of azo coupling the
diazonium intermediate is synthesized. This process is called diazonation, in which the diazonium
intermediate is formed by the reaction between sulfanilic acid (an aromatic amine) ... Show more

The Treatment Plan Of Mulch
Methodology
The treatment plan of mulch, compost top dressing, and compost tea application was carried out over
a few weeks. During Week One, the plants were transplanted and intercropped (Figure 1). A 6 inch
space was maintained between each crop to ensure room for growth. The plot was then divided into
two portions, one for control plants and the other for treatment plants. Once the plot was divided, a 3 6
inch layer of straw mulch was added to the treatment portion. The total number of plants in the control
and treatment plots was 200 and 195, respectively.
During Week Two, a top dressing of compost was added to energize the soil and add supplemental
nutrition to aid plant growth. The dry, depleted nature of the soil prompted the addition of compost
tea, which was prepared with the recipe shown in Figure 2 and applied directly to the soil during Week
3. Plants were weeded and thinned regularly twice a week for the first three weeks post
transplantation. From then on, the plot was regularly monitored and weeded.
The water schedule remained consistent throughout the experiment. Water was applied to the plants
via drip irrigation for one hour a day, three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).
Results Looking at the raw data, the trends between the control groups and treatment groups are
highly varied. Among all plant species, the treatment led to an average increase in plant height, a
varied increase or decrease in fresh root weight and aboveground biomass, and

My classroom experience was rather interesting, the education department there wanted us to

Quality In Healthcare
Individual Assignment #1
The most important measure of success in any kind of organization is quality. Quality is extremely
crucial in all organizations whether it is within healthcare or not because, it is a symbol that is
representing the main image of an organization. A quality of an organization is based on the facts that
they are always remarkably meeting the expectations of their customers, if not even doing more. It
also means that such organization is always striving to find the unsatisfied areas of the customers in
which to improve. When every organization ensures that it is producing quality products or services,

efficient, which means they should seek to remove waste from the facilities as soon as possible and
the cost of services should be capable to afford. And the sixth tells us that health care should be
equitable, this means to be known for a great quality in a health care organization, it must accept all
kinds of people, it must not discriminate but strive to give the same high quality care to everyone who

Is Santa Really Real Research Paper
Is Santa Claus Really Real?
BY Aadi
Christmas is around the corner and excitement is on. Santa is checking off his last list of gifts and
everyone is happy. But wait, is there a real Santa anyways?
The long awaited moment of truth has recently been discovered and it proves that Santa, the red suited
guy who hopped through our chimneys, is real. Many adults, nowadays, once used to believe when
they were kids that Santa is Real and he comes with his reindeers to give them gifts, unfortunately, it
was not really the Santa who came and gifted them, but it was their parents.
The myths of the existence of Santa was still like a mystery to a lot.

History Of Accounting And Private Sector
Introduction
Since the early 1980s public sector accounting and private sector accounting have experienced
significant transformation such as decentralization, deregulation and the differences between thee two
sectors are highly topical and political in many countries (Blondal 2003). The key transformation is
the adoption of accrual basis of accounting rather than cash basis accounting by increasing number of
countries (Guthrie and Ryan 1998). Meanwhile, public sectors refer specifically to organizations
owned by government and private sectors refer to those organizations which are not government,
owned and run by individuals and companies for profit oriented (Investopedia 2014). In this essay,
there are several accounting issues to be discussed, include the development of sector neutrality,
advantages and disadvantages of accrual basis accounting in public sector and meaningfulness of
sector neutrality.
Development of sector neutrality
New Public Management is used to describe the institutionalization of private sector corporate models

Solution Focused Therapy And Experiential Therapy
This term paper is about solution focused therapy and experiential therapy. In solution focused
therapy, the therapy does not emphasize the problem at all; it stresses and highlights the solution. The
client is the expert and not the therapist. The experiential approach is often used to facilitate
meaningful changes in individuals. SFBT is a short term goal focused therapeutic approach which
directs clients to focus on developing solutions, rather than on dwelling on problems. The theoretical
framework, how change occurs, therapeutic techniques, postmodern perspective, the role of the
therapist and some clinical examples are given in this term paper.
My Family Therapy Models Term Paper on Solution Focused Therapy and Experiential Therapy
Family therapy is a technique that has many alternative approaches to every aspect of treatment which
Nichols (2014), states may present a challenge when describing a basic technique. The two models of
family therapy in which I feel that I would be most effective and comfortable with would be,
experiential family therapy and solution focused brief therapy. I feel most comfortable with these
models because, I adapt to the role of the therapist of both therapies naturally. According to Nichols
(2014), when families seek therapy they are stuck in a life cycle transition, sometimes they are
obvious and sometimes they are not obvious. I ve found that during the first session an excellent
question is to ask the client why now so that they can

Social Class in Uk
Social Class in UK
The term social class is in UK is a controversial issue,David J Lee said The use of the concept class in
sociology has come under attack , which having many definitions. And as the tile shows, there are
even disagreements over its very existence. Before we get into the details, at least, let us look at one
definition. Social class is a set of concepts in the social sciences and political theory centered on
models of social stratification in which people are grouped into a set of hierarchical social
categories(Grant, J. Andrew (2001). Encyclopedia of International Political Economy ).British society

Marx thinks that the limited power of the worker is the base of the exploitation and the reason for the
conflict. He also believe that both of the class has their own wariness of the situation and unequal
states, they know their social position and why it is the way it is. But appearance of calm is the result
of the education of the capitalists . The workers are told they world works this way and it is
unchangeable, the both parties are compatible with each other. And he suggests that workers need to
be reeducated to gain control of the mind. Then there will be confrontation and gaining of leverage in
asking for better treatment or even revolution to put an end to the very existence of class . The radical
solution comes from careful philosophical thinking.
Weber s analysis of class likes Marx s. The difference is he sees the social classes as more complex
classes, and he argues about social stratification in social class with wider meaning. Weber argues,
Marx s famous dictum that Class . . . is ultimately market situation should be read in the light of his
methodological individualism, with the result that class analysis reduces to a weak rump of residual

The Development Of Human Development Essay
Human Development in Children aged 11years
Human development refers to the biological and psychological development in the human being
throughout the lifespan. It consists of the development from infancy, childhood and adolescence to
adulthood.
In this essay I will analyse two practiced based experiences to demonstrate my understanding of
human development. For my first practiced based experience, I will be drawing on Lev Vygotsky s
Sociocultural Development Theory. His key concepts of The Zone of Proximal Development, More
Knowledgeable Others, and Internalisation.
For my second practiced based experience I will draw on Erik Erikson s Theory of Identity
Development. His key concept of psychosocial development stages.
My first experience concerns an 11year old girl named Ella.
I was sitting in the library with Ella after she had completed her E asTTle testing. While we were
waiting to head back to the classroom Ella was completing a math s project. She explained to me that
she was in a higher learning level math s group and was completing a math s badge. Mrs. Jones head
of math s for year 7/8 is assisting Ella with her math s badge and told me that Ella is doing extremely
well.
My second experience was observing a group of 5 girls that had gone outside to practice their
presentation of an Anzac day story to be delivered before their peers. When one of the girls proceeded
to deliver her part of the presentation, Katy another of the girls in the group sidled up to her,

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. These powerful words were penned in a letter
from a prison cell of Birmingham Jail in 1963, by one of America s best known advocate of equal
rights Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. According to him, all humans are caught in an inescapable network
of mutuality, tied in single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

Each of the different spheres expresses the principles of justice and fairness in its own way, resulting
in different types and concepts of justice; distributive, procedural, retributive, and restorative. These
types of justice have important implications for socio economic, political, civil, and criminal justice at
both the national and international level.
Distributive justice, or economic justice, is concerned with giving all members of society a fair share
of the benefits and resources available. Fair allocation of resources, or distributive justice, is crucial to
the stability of a society and the well being of its members. When issues of distributive justice are
inadequately addressed and the item to be distributed is highly valued, intractable conflicts frequently
result.
Procedural justice is concerned with making and implementing decisions according to fair processes
that ensure fair treatment. Rules must be impartially followed and consistently applied in order to
generate an unbiased decision. If people believe procedures to be fair, they will be more likely to
accept outcomes, even ones that they do not like. Implementing fair procedures is central to many
dispute resolution procedures, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and adjudication.
Retributive justice appeals to the notion of just dessert the idea that . people deserve to be treated in
the same way they treat others. It is a retroactive approach that justifies

lacquered boxes known as betrothal presents. It composes of areca nuts and betel leaves, tea, cake,
fruits, wines and other delicacies which covered with red cloth and carried by unmarried girls or boys.
The gifts brought by the bridegroom to be are placed on the ancestral altar. Joss sticks and lights are lit

the altar, thanked everyone, and divided the edible gifts into two parts, one smaller than the other. The
smaller part was given back to my father s family indicating that they have been far too generous and
that my mother s family is not greedy. This also indicates good luck and a close alliance between the

The Word Voodoo Means Spirit Of The West African
The word voodoo means spirit in the West African. It is a religion practiced by much Haitian living in
Haiti as well as the Diaspora. For the majority of Haitians, it is a symbol of solidarity of how they
stood up and fought for their rights and freedom. For others, it is a painful source of reminder of how
their ancestors were cruelly and unjustly treated by the Europeans.Even though the slaves were forced
to convert to the Roman Catholic Christianity by missionaries, they continue to practice their faith. As
a result, the voodoo is born out of the intermingling of beliefs and practices of African culture and the
Catholicism. Nowadays the voodoo plays important role in different integrals politically and
socially. In 1676, when the French colonized this Island, they possessed vast land, fields, pastures and
garden. They needed cheap labor for the grueling work, especially in those sugars plantations. The
slave system has already existed in the 16th century.
Upon their arrival, the owners stripped them of their fundamental human rights. They exploited their
skills and forbade practicing their traditional beliefs. The Europeans look down on African beliefs as
primitive and savage. They did not accept those beliefs as a genuine religion. As a result, they baptized
those poor souls as real Christians. Those slaves continued to practice their faith at their peril. If they

Strategies Of Oral Communication
The 3 predominantly used communication strategies utilised in Parkway Pantai Group are oral
communication, emails and the means of quarterly printed publications, circulars and memos. Oral
Communication
Oral communication is the most basic medium utilised throughout the company in terms of telephonic
conversations or face to face conversations. For example, if a colleague is facing IT issues on his/her
computer, he/she will most probably pick up the handset and give a convenient call to the IT
department for assistance. Oral communication is best in case of problem resolution and promotes a
receptive and encouraging morale among organizational employees.

habitual productions of the speaker.
There is no legal validity in oral messages as oral messages are not taped and no records are kept.

If one decides to look deeper into Kafka s life after reading the book he will find a lot of similarities
between the author and the character he created. By Comparing Franz Kafka s family, work, and

The new knowledge of light, color and human anatomy prior to the 1700s along with the knowledge
of the ancients helped Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo achieve a higher degree of artistry in their
works. The use of sfumato was one. Instead of stark linear definition of shapes, something is left to the
imagination by the hazy blurring of lines. It is said that the Mona Lisa displays this in the ds Vinci s
use of sfumato for the corners of the eyes and mouth of Mona Lisa to elevate the mystery of her

Artists of the age became anatomists by necessity to reach a level of intuitive familiarity with the

Management and Assumptions
Assumption based planning in project management is a post planning method, that helps companies to
deal with uncertainty. It is used to identify the most important assumptions in a company s business
plans, test these assumptions and think of hedging actions and what if scenarios. Conventional
business planning methods operate on the premise that managers can extrapolate future results from a
well understood base of information from the past. However, for new businesses and projects this way
of planning often does not comply. Most of the time there is no past knowledge and if there s any past
knowledge available, predicting the future out of it is nearly impossible. The dilemma is that corporate

What are we going to do if we re not certain about the size of the market by the end of September next
year? We assume that there the product is not very sensitive to the consumer price, how can we show

the business plan. It is for that reason that ABP should be strongly interwoven into the whole business
planning process. Implicit and explicit assumptions Assumptions according to Wikipedia are
propositions that are assumed, i.e., treated within the context of a discussion as if it were known to be
true or false . But although the Wikipedia definition of an assumption is correct, a better definition of
assumptions in the context of business planning and ABP is given by RAND. An assumption is an
assertion about some characteristic of the future that underlies the current operations or plans of an
organization There are multiple types of assumptions. The most known derivation is between implicit
and explicit assumptions. Another classification used in ABP is the derivation between primary and
secondary assumptions. This latter categorization is discussed in the Critical assumption planning
Wiki. The two classifications are not mutually exclusive; this means that an assumption can be both an
explicit and a primary assumption, while another assumption can be implicitly derived. Explicit
assumptions are assumptions of which the

project lead as it was originally my idea and my fellows agreed I was fit to take charge. We did indeed

CE 3.2.1 The theme of the project was to bring forth an idea which could prove to be helpful in today

solution for people who are physically impaired and could use my invention to complete day to day
tasks more seamlessly. I was very enthusiastic about my idea and thankfully our course instructor was

a robotics related project and a vacuum cleaning automaton such as the famous Roomba® but another
group had already taken this idea a few step further so we dropped our initiative out of professional
and friendly courtesy. CE 3.2.2 Electronic gadgets such as smartphones, PDAs, computers and laptops

Prophet Jeremiah Research Paper
The prophet Jeremiah lived during the most critical period of Judah s existence. He saw the
destruction of Jerusalem. God s declared that my people have committed two evils. They have
forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no
water. Therefore, I will, I cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets in Jerusalem, the
voice in gladness and the voice in joy for the land shall become a desert. Jeremiah had continually
warned God s people to mend their ways before it was too late. And when the devastation finally
overwhelmed Israel, he was the one who mourned Israel s terrible fate. The moral failure in Judah s
leadership was largely responsible for the spiritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voices among the exiles that disbelieve and condemned Jeremiah as a mad man will not live to see
this glorious day.
There is no help for those who have God against them. Jerusalem should have been a center of
devotion but was made a center of wickedness; it is not strange if God employs the service of
destroyers. That God himself will be their enemy when a nation forgets God.
So is the plight of today s society, in particular the United States. Woe is the nation that calls good evil
and evil good. As it was in the day of Jeremiah so it is today. America has turned its back on the God
of creation. When promoting homosexual marriages that is defiant of marriage of the bible that God
instituted, one man and one women, promotion of killing innocent babies and calling that women s
right. We know that life begins at conception and only God has a right to take a life. It is a sad day
since America tries to totally wipe God out of society, Children no longer can pray in school or read
the bible or even say the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The Christian faith now seems to be the
enemy of the political

Indoor Vs. Outdoor Exercise
Conventional wisdom was supported in 2003 by research from the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention which found evidence to support the long held general belief that exercisers profit from
many physical and psychological benefits of physical activity (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, 2003; Plante, Cage, Clements, Stover, 2006). Plante, Cage, Clements, and Stover (2006)
sought to further the idea behind Plante, Aldridge, Bogden, and Hanelin s (2003) study (which built
off of the CDC s 2003 research) concerning virtual reality s role in the psychological benefits of
exercise. Plante, Aldridge, Bogden, and Hanelin s (2003) study included virtual reality scenes of
walking through a college campus that were viewed by participants. This team of researchers paired
virtual reality with exercise, and found that virtual reality paired with exercise can improve the
psychological effects of exercise in a positive way (2006). Plante, Cage, Clements, and Stover (2006)
looked to replicate similar results as well as investigate indoor vs. outdoor exercise benefits.
Plante, Cage, Clements, and Stover declared two hypotheses for their study. First, they hypothesized
that similar results to the Plante, Aldrige, Bogden, and Hanelin (2003) study would be found;
specifically that virtual reality with exercise and also exercise alone would lead to more energy and
less tiredness than virtual reality without exercise (2006). Second, Plante, Cage, Clements, and Stover

The Legal Drinking Age Of America
It was a typical Saturday night working as a waiter. The dinner rush had just ended and I was catching
up on some side work. As I am refilling the salad dressings, the hostess informs me that she had just
sat a table in my section. After arriving at the table and introducing myself, I proceed to ask for their
drink orders. The first words articulated out the woman s mouth are spoken with a deep, thick, Irish
accent. I could not help but acknowledge it and after chatting for a few minutes, I come to learn that
they had just arrived from the airport and are vacationing in Florida for two weeks. After taking both
parents drink orders, I ask their son what he would like to drink. Like the true Irish man he is, he asks
me for a Guinness. He looked a little young to be drinking so I asked him for some id. He hands me
the id and it reads that he is only nineteen years old. I had to explain to them that the legal drinking
age in the United States was twenty one years old and I could see the look of confusion in their face.
The father tried quarreling with me that the law was stupid and since they are allowed to drink their
country, they should be allowed to drink here. Little did they know that this issue is very personal to
me. One of my good friends in high school was riding his bike one night and was hit and killed by an
underage drunk driver. The look of confusion was wiped from their face forthwith after telling them
my story. The topic of changing the minimum legal drinking

Impact Of Colonisation On The Aztecs
What has been the nature and impact of colonisation on the Aztecs?
In the early 15th and 16th centuries many European countries sailed to the west to explore The
Americas. Spain was one of these countries that sailed to The Americas. The Spanish leader of the
expedition was Hernan Cortez and this expedition became known as the Conquistadors of Mexico. In
1519, Tenochtitlan was the centre of the Aztec empire, which conquered and colonised by Cortez and
his Conquistadores overthrowing Aztec rule. Therefore, the impact of Cortez and the Conquistadores
had a chain reaction, which had a huge impact on the Aztec lifestyle.
The Aztecs settled a city known as Tenochtitlan. It was located on a swampy island in Lake Texcoco
in Mexico. The Aztecs settled

Genovese Crime Family Research Paper
Where it all began.
The Genovese Crime Family was formed in 1892 in the Bronx and East Harlem. Originally named the
107th Street gang it was founded by Guiseppe Morello and Ignazio the Wolf Lupo. The gang became
formally known as the Morello Gang, which took part in extortion, kidnappings, and robberies. The
gang had worked closely with the Camorra for years, but because of territory issues they soon
separated. When Morello and Lupo went to jail for extortion in 1909 the Camorra decided to kill off
any Morello members. Camorra had lost the war, but the Morello gang had lost the new boss Nicholas
Morello and couldn t regain its power again. Joseph Masseria took advantage and grabbed control
over surviving members His power wouldn t last long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There he aligned himself with Benito Mussolini and gave him large amounts of money to fund his
fascist government, including building a monument in his honor. Even though Mussolini had strife
with the Mafia, he was okay with letting Genovese operate his drug trafficking. It was not long,
however, before Genovese was identified as an American fugitive and was brought to New York to
stand trial for the murder of Boccia (2007, p. 112). Two people testified against him, Ernet Rupolo and
Peter LaTempa. LaTempa was poisoned and Rupolo testimony wouldn t be enough to convict
Genovese. The lack of evidence acquitted him and he walked free. (p.

Public Opinion of the Affordable Care Act
Nearly two years ago the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into
place by President Obama. This signature placed by President Obama has never rested especially well
with the American public. As to be expected, the views on health care laws are colored by
partisanship. Overall, the opinions towards the health car law have wavered slightly since the passing
in March of 2010, and support has yet to reach favorable in 2014.
Role of Public Opinion
Even with the public being well aware of the elements of the health care law, particularly individual
mandates, there is still a lack of understanding of it. According to Pinto (2013), 41 percent of
Americans felt they had a good understanding of what the new law entailed, but even after two years
and implementation the number has increased just six points to 47 percent. The purpose behind public
opinion was to make more affordable health care insurance for uninsured citizens originally (Pinto,
2013). Supporters of the Affordable Care Act believed that government run insurance companies could
successfully lower rates by using greater leverage than the private industry (Pinto, 2013). Supporters
of such public plans, believed that a small set of companies had control for local health insurance
markets. Having such public opinion at such a huge national level meant insurance companies would
cooperate. Many Democratic Politicians were publically in favor of public opinion for many reasons

Essay about A Proposed ICAAlgorithm
Proposed ICA algorithm This algorithm performs adaptive optimization of kurtosis based contrast
function in floating point arithmetic. The main aim of this algorithm development is to reduce the
number of manipulations and to improve the performance of ICA algorithm in terms of convergence
speed, area, frequency and power. The convergence speed of the algorithm is improved by focusing
the search in particular directions rather than searching for the solution in a random manner. The
random number generator unit present in FastICA has been replaced by an adaptive optimization unit
.This adaptive optimization unit updates the weight values based on the kurtosis function. Since

If x is normalized so variance is equal to unity, then kurtosis is simply the normalized version of the
fourth moment as in (5). kurt(x)=E{x^(4 ) } 3 (5) Kurtosis value is non zero for non gaussian random
variables or signals. The weight vector is updated in ICA by the learning rule w_newi
(k+1)←E{Z.g(〖w(k)Z〗^T)} E{Z.g (〖w(k)Z〗^T)} (6) Where g( ) is a nonlinear function. Since
derivative of kurtosis can be used as a nonlinear function g(x)=x3 (7) On substituting (7) in (6),
w_newi (k+1)←E{Z.(〖w(k)Z〗^T)} 3E{Z〖〖(w(k)Z〗^T)〗^2} (8) Due to the property of unit
variance, the equation (8) becomes, w_newi (k+1)←E{Z.(〖w(k)Z〗^T)} 3w(k) (9) This is used in
main iteration of proposed algorithm for weight updation. The Fig 2 shows the architecture of iteration
process defined in (9) for 2 sources . Prposed ICAAlgorithm for 2 units Having the low

member.
When it comes to the ecosystem perspective, it is about interactions within the environment. The
illness my grandmother has is Diabetes, I believe a support group would be beneficial for her to
meeting others with the same illness, and learning more about her illness. Even though my
grandmother knows about her diabetes on what was told to her by her primary doctor, engaging with
other with the same illness would be informative for her about her diabetes. By relating the ecosystem
perspective with her illness, it would be best in know how she interacts with others, and within the
environment. As to my grandmother being active due to her illness

  • 2. How Does Goal Displacement Affect Society Everyone has those times when they wonder about where they are in life and if they truly are doing the best they are capable of. That statement there is one of the most glossed over issues in society. We are always told what needs to be done, and how to get it done in good quality and time. Businesses and people in general are relying more and more on goal oriented ideals, which isn t a bad thing, except for when it becomes a straight routine and monotonous. Then we have the problem of goal displacement. Goal displacement is the process that occurs when the rules become an end in themselves rather than a means to an end and organizational survival becomes more important than achievement of goals. (Merton, 1968). Goal displacement is becoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether that be as simple as a to do list or as complicated as a bucket list, or even having a budget to go by. With more of people s lives becoming goal oriented we are seeing more rise in goal displacement. Although, by far this is the hardest portion of society to tell signs because each person has very different lives, and goes about them differently too. But just the same, the signs are there when you look at the public on a larger scale. So many people have an outstanding debt, and yet, still spend money making that debt greater. They don t have much of a choice considering the economy, right? Wrong. The world may run on money, but there are programs that help manage debt while people still go about their lives, and I am not talking about welfare. Welfare is where the goal displacement is happening for people, because it s a federal program meant to help those in need until they can get back on their feet, not to become their main income source. Don t let the rules become an end for yourselves in pursuing a higher status or being a part of a better income bracket. Yes, it may take time and seem unattainable, but time is all some have so why not use it for the good of yourselves and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Techniques of Interrogation Techniques of Interrogation One of the best training programs to implement into the police department is the Reid interrogation techniques. Interrogation and interviewing techniques became popular in 1947 by John E. Reid and Associates. Joseph P. Buckley stated that The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation is now the most widely used approach to question subjects in the world (Buckley P. J., 2000). There three parts to the Reid process for solving a crime. The first stage that should be taking is to collect and analyze relative information from the crime scene thing that offers insight to the possible suspect and determine the direction an investigation should take. The second stage of the process interviewing people of interest using Behavior Analysis Interview (BAI) (Buckley P. J., 2000). The Behavior Analysis Interview is a non accusatory process that allows detectives to interview a suspect using a question and answer procedure to provoke a suspect to show non verbal truthfulness or deception. The third stage, if the offender has not admitted to the crime an accusatory interrogation is administered (Leave no marks, 2007). The Reid interrogation technique is believed to be a fail proof technique ,however, there are some reservations against using this technique on juvenile offenders (Constitutional Law(n.d). Implementing the Reid technique into the police departments learning curriculum will truly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Rise Of Rome Research Paper The Great Rise of Rome and Latin In the ancient Italian peninsula, numerous languages were spoken in many different regions. The most influential, extending to modern times, is Latin. Latin was the vernacular of the region of Latium; the same region that gave rise to the remarkable city of Rome. Rome was perhaps the greatest empire to have taken shape in history, exerting an infinite amount of influence in politics, medicine, civilization, military, and language. While Rome spread her borders, Latin would soon become the lingua franca of the Mediterranean world and beyond. The war against the vast Carthaginian Empire that enabled the Romans to rule the known world and establish their long lasting influence will be examined. In present day ... Ceterum autem censen Carthaginem esse delendum! or Carthage will be destroyed! said Cato the Elder (Nardo pg. 32). By this time, Carthage had largely lost all her influence in the Mediterranean, and was reduced to North Africa, until the final Punic war, when the Romans took over North Africa. • 6. Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Analysis The short story Girl by Jamaica Kincaid, gives us a keen illustration of the relationship between a mother and daughter living in a post colonial society. Although the Mother s intention is to pass on helpful advice, we can see where the mother imposes her traditions on her daughter. Also, we can also deduce that the relationship between the two is molded by the expected behavior of women in society. The expected behavior of the girl by society is what subsequently leads the mother to make such forceful demands of her daughter. In this essay, I will focus on the role of women in society, and how tradition affects the relationship between the mother and daughter. In this literary piece, the mother and the daughter engages in a conversation where the story is told from the perspective of the daughter. The daughter only speaks twice, once to defend herself and another toward the end of the story. This shows the extent to which her mom dominated the relationship and how little control the girl has in the relationship with her mother. She also asks her daughter, Is it true you sing Benna in Sunday School? (Line 7) Benna developed as a form of prohibition music against slavery and was considered a scandalous type of music by those who were Christians and went to Sunday school . Her mother warned her against singing Benna as it was deemed bad by society. Although the mother may be the domineering figure in the relationship, it is clear her intentions are good and she wants the best for her daughter. The advice she passes on is very helpful to the girl such as soaking salt fish to reduce the saltiness of the food, not to walk on the road with her bare head in the sun, how to grow dasheen so it does not itch your throat, etc. Some of the advice she tries to impart on her may not be necessary and could be overbearing on the daughter. She tries to make her daughter lady like and dress and behave appropriately, this is how to hem a dress when you see the hem coming down and so to prevent yourself from looking like the slut I know you are so bent on becoming . (Line 15) She also constantly reinforces the idea that her daughter is headed in the direction of becoming sexually promiscuous although this may not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Plato s Interpretation Of Utopia Plato and Aristotle shared many differences despite also sharing a teacher student relationship. This essay will strive to establish their understandings of reason and the role reason plays in their comprehensions of politics, differentiating between the kinds of reason and politics produced as a result. Plato is regarded as the first writer of political philosophy while Aristotle is recognised as the first political scientist. Plato s interpretation of Utopia is founded upon the existence of three separate classes: the producers, the auxiliaries and the guardians. Plato envisions the guardians as wise rulers whom are best placed in positions of absolute authority. Plato understood it to be the role of the guardians to be the select few who know what is best for society. On the other hand, Aristotle is not concerned with perfecting society. Aristotle emphasizes public and private realms and structures of society. This Plato and Aristotle by Carlos Cortiglia 2 means that he is interested in the ideals which are expressed in the laws and customs of a state and he also focuses on public opinion as views expressed by the people living in a given state. Unlike Plato, Aristotle believe that politics must respect and be based on ideals and views and makes of these ideals and views the means to improve existing society. • 12. A Summary Of The Bhagavad Gita I have found the book The Bhagavad Gita to be very appealing. I have never been exposed to the Indian culture but while reading this book it seems that they have similar beliefs than we do, just quoted differently. Detachment was one of their practices I found interesting. Reasons to be detached is greatly explained in this quote, Those who are compulsively attached to the results of action cannot really enjoy what they do; they get downcast when things do not work out and cling more desperately when they do (55). This quote is simply saying that we as a whole are not focused on what we should be doing, we only focus on what we are doing to be perfect. If we act without worrying we may even be able to enjoy ourselves instead. Even though detachment is practiced in the Indian culture, everyone should practice it. In the religion I participate in, we tend to put value on everything. Some people may not want to read the Gita or practice any of their practices due to the fact that it may not be their religion. I feel that you should really view certain things without judging. I would consider practicing detachment in order to help ease tension. When you are attached to someone or somethings, anything can happen to it which cares you to feel a certain way. However, if you were practicing detachment, you wouldn t really care if something happens to it. You also wouldn t be as hurt; this is when you find yourself thinking everything happens for a reason. Mile Davis The Birth of Cool defines a masterpiece that projected an image of an African American cool cat that played a refined, mellow, and sophisticated style of jazz. Davis would become a central figure in the cool jazz movement due to his rebellious attitudes towards society, as well as the drug related criminal culture that he exuded as a countercultural figure in conservative white America. The use of this word in Chisholm s Cool Kind Daddy Blues and Huston s The Gilded Six Bits illustrates a popularized way to express an individual with a cool demeanor in the arts. The deviant nature of the jazz lifestyle is another major part of the Cool jazz , which made it cool to be seen as a rebellious in terms of criminal behavior and drug usage. • 14. Methyl Orange Synthesis Lab Report Experiment 11B consisted of synthesizing methyl orange, a synthetic dye, and testing this dye s coloring quality and effectiveness as a pH indicator. Methyl orange is an acid base indicator. In a pH of greater than 4.4, it becomes a yellow solution with a negatively charged sulfonate ion. When submerged into a solution with a pH less than 3.2, the dipolar red ion (helianthin) predominates. Methyl orange is a type of azo dye, which is commonly found in food, fabric, paint, and other brightly colored products. The general structure consists of the N5N functional group sandwiched between two aromatic species. Azo dyes are brightly colored because of their extensive conjugated system which gives rise to a strong chromophore. The exact color depends on both the nature of the aromatic group and the substituents. Methyl orange is synthesized through an azo coupling reaction between a diazonium ion and N,N dimethylaniline. An electrophilic aromatic substitution causes the positively charged diazonium ion to act as the electrophilic species. In the first step of azo coupling the diazonium intermediate is synthesized. This process is called diazonation, in which the diazonium intermediate is formed by the reaction between sulfanilic acid (an aromatic amine) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During Week One, the plants were transplanted and intercropped (Figure 1). A 6 inch space was maintained between each crop to ensure room for growth. The plot was then divided into two portions, one for control plants and the other for treatment plants. Once the plot was divided, a 3 6 inch layer of straw mulch was added to the treatment portion. The total number of plants in the control and treatment plots was 200 and 195, respectively. Mr. Torda, a Biology teacher in the Mayfield High school and the head of the Science Department, said, When I was a kid, I wondered if Santa was real or not. Like when my parents used to say to me, There is this guy named Santa, who had a workshop and build all the toys, wraps them, deliver them and like that. • 21. History Of Accounting And Private Sector Introduction Since the early 1980s public sector accounting and private sector accounting have experienced significant transformation such as decentralization, deregulation and the differences between thee two sectors are highly topical and political in many countries (Blondal 2003). The key transformation is the adoption of accrual basis of accounting rather than cash basis accounting by increasing number of countries (Guthrie and Ryan 1998). Meanwhile, public sectors refer specifically to organizations owned by government and private sectors refer to those organizations which are not government, owned and run by individuals and companies for profit oriented (Investopedia 2014). In this essay, there are several accounting issues to be discussed, include the development of sector neutrality, advantages and disadvantages of accrual basis accounting in public sector and meaningfulness of sector neutrality. Development of sector neutrality New Public Management is used to describe the institutionalization of private sector corporate models into the public sectors (Guthrie and Ryan 1998). In order to set a standards to private and public sectors, the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB) merged with the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) in 2000 (Ryan, Guthrie and Day 2007). In solution focused therapy, the therapy does not emphasize the problem at all; it stresses and highlights the solution. The client is the expert and not the therapist. The experiential approach is often used to facilitate meaningful changes in individuals. SFBT is a short term goal focused therapeutic approach which directs clients to focus on developing solutions, rather than on dwelling on problems. The theoretical framework, how change occurs, therapeutic techniques, postmodern perspective, the role of the therapist and some clinical examples are given in this term paper. My Family Therapy Models Term Paper on Solution Focused Therapy and Experiential Therapy Family therapy is a technique that has many alternative approaches to every aspect of treatment which Nichols (2014), states may present a challenge when describing a basic technique. The two models of family therapy in which I feel that I would be most effective and comfortable with would be, experiential family therapy and solution focused brief therapy. I feel most comfortable with these models because, I adapt to the role of the therapist of both therapies naturally. According to Nichols (2014), when families seek therapy they are stuck in a life cycle transition, sometimes they are obvious and sometimes they are not obvious. For my first practiced based experience, I will be drawing on Lev Vygotsky s Sociocultural Development Theory. Mrs. Jones head of math s for year 7/8 is assisting Ella with her math s badge and told me that Ella is doing extremely well. Each of the different spheres expresses the principles of justice and fairness in its own way, resulting in different types and concepts of justice; distributive, procedural, retributive, and restorative. These types of justice have important implications for socio economic, political, civil, and criminal justice at both the national and international level. Distributive justice, or economic justice, is concerned with giving all members of society a fair share of the benefits and resources available. Fair allocation of resources, or distributive justice, is crucial to the stability of a society and the well being of its members. When issues of distributive justice are inadequately addressed and the item to be distributed is highly valued, intractable conflicts frequently result. Procedural justice is concerned with making and implementing decisions according to fair processes that ensure fair treatment. Rules must be impartially followed and consistently applied in order to generate an unbiased decision. If people believe procedures to be fair, they will be more likely to accept outcomes, even ones that they do not like. Implementing fair procedures is central to many dispute resolution procedures, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and adjudication. • 41. Prophet Jeremiah Research Paper The prophet Jeremiah lived during the most critical period of Judah s existence. He saw the destruction of Jerusalem. God s declared that my people have committed two evils. They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Therefore, I will, I cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets in Jerusalem, the voice in gladness and the voice in joy for the land shall become a desert. Jeremiah had continually warned God s people to mend their ways before it was too late. And when the devastation finally overwhelmed Israel, he was the one who mourned Israel s terrible fate. Jerusalem should have been a center of devotion but was made a center of wickedness; it is not strange if God employs the service of destroyers. That God himself will be their enemy when a nation forgets God. So is the plight of today s society, in particular the United States. Woe is the nation that calls good evil and evil good. As it was in the day of Jeremiah so it is today. America has turned its back on the God of creation. When promoting homosexual marriages that is defiant of marriage of the bible that God instituted, one man and one women, promotion of killing innocent babies and calling that women s right. We know that life begins at conception and only God has a right to take a life. • 43. Indoor Vs. Outdoor Exercise Conventional wisdom was supported in 2003 by research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which found evidence to support the long held general belief that exercisers profit from many physical and psychological benefits of physical activity (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2003; Plante, Cage, Clements, Stover, 2006). Plante, Cage, Clements, and Stover (2006) sought to further the idea behind Plante, Aldridge, Bogden, and Hanelin s (2003) study (which built off of the CDC s 2003 research) concerning virtual reality s role in the psychological benefits of exercise. Plante, Aldridge, Bogden, and Hanelin s (2003) study included virtual reality scenes of walking through a college campus that were viewed by participants. This team of researchers paired virtual reality with exercise, and found that virtual reality paired with exercise can improve the psychological effects of exercise in a positive way (2006). Plante, Cage, Clements, and Stover (2006) looked to replicate similar results as well as investigate indoor vs. outdoor exercise benefits. Plante, Cage, Clements, and Stover declared two hypotheses for their study. First, they hypothesized that similar results to the Plante, Aldrige, Bogden, and Hanelin (2003) study would be found; specifically that virtual reality with exercise and also exercise alone would lead to more energy and less tiredness than virtual reality without exercise (2006). • 44. The Legal Drinking Age Of America It was a typical Saturday night working as a waiter. The dinner rush had just ended and I was catching up on some side work. As I am refilling the salad dressings, the hostess informs me that she had just sat a table in my section. After arriving at the table and introducing myself, I proceed to ask for their drink orders. The first words articulated out the woman s mouth are spoken with a deep, thick, Irish accent. I could not help but acknowledge it and after chatting for a few minutes, I come to learn that they had just arrived from the airport and are vacationing in Florida for two weeks. After taking both parents drink orders, I ask their son what he would like to drink. Like the true Irish man he is, he asks me for a Guinness. He looked a little young to be drinking so I asked him for some id. He hands me the id and it reads that he is only nineteen years old. I had to explain to them that the legal drinking age in the United States was twenty one years old and I could see the look of confusion in their face. The father tried quarreling with me that the law was stupid and since they are allowed to drink their country, they should be allowed to drink here. Little did they know that this issue is very personal to me. One of my good friends in high school was riding his bike one night and was hit and killed by an underage drunk driver. The look of confusion was wiped from their face forthwith after telling them my story. The topic of changing the minimum legal drinking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Impact Of Colonisation On The Aztecs What has been the nature and impact of colonisation on the Aztecs? In the early 15th and 16th centuries many European countries sailed to the west to explore The Americas. Spain was one of these countries that sailed to The Americas. The Spanish leader of the expedition was Hernan Cortez and this expedition became known as the Conquistadors of Mexico. In 1519, Tenochtitlan was the centre of the Aztec empire, which conquered and colonised by Cortez and his Conquistadores overthrowing Aztec rule. Therefore, the impact of Cortez and the Conquistadores had a chain reaction, which had a huge impact on the Aztec lifestyle. The Aztecs settled a city known as Tenochtitlan. It was located on a swampy island in Lake Texcoco in Mexico. The Aztecs settled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Public Opinion of the Affordable Care Act Nearly two years ago the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into place by President Obama. This signature placed by President Obama has never rested especially well with the American public. As to be expected, the views on health care laws are colored by partisanship. Overall, the opinions towards the health car law have wavered slightly since the passing in March of 2010, and support has yet to reach favorable in 2014. Role of Public Opinion Even with the public being well aware of the elements of the health care law, particularly individual mandates, there is still a lack of understanding of it. According to Pinto (2013), 41 percent of Americans felt they had a good understanding of what the new law entailed, but even after two years and implementation the number has increased just six points to 47 percent. The purpose behind public opinion was to make more affordable health care insurance for uninsured citizens originally (Pinto, 2013). Supporters of the Affordable Care Act believed that government run insurance companies could successfully lower rates by using greater leverage than the private industry (Pinto, 2013). Supporters of such public plans, believed that a small set of companies had control for local health insurance markets. Having such public opinion at such a huge national level meant insurance companies would cooperate. Many Democratic Politicians were publically in favor of public opinion for many reasons ... • 48. Essay about A Proposed ICAAlgorithm Proposed ICA algorithm This algorithm performs adaptive optimization of kurtosis based contrast function in floating point arithmetic. The main aim of this algorithm development is to reduce the number of manipulations and to improve the performance of ICA algorithm in terms of convergence speed, area, frequency and power. The convergence speed of the algorithm is improved by focusing the search in particular directions rather than searching for the solution in a random manner. The random number generator unit present in FastICA has been replaced by an adaptive optimization unit .This adaptive optimization unit updates the weight values based on the kurtosis function. Since adaptive optimization unit contains a subtractor and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If x is normalized so variance is equal to unity, then kurtosis is simply the normalized version of the fourth moment as in (5). kurt(x)=E{x^(4 ) } 3 (5) Kurtosis value is non zero for non gaussian random variables or signals. The weight vector is updated in ICA by the learning rule w_newi (k+1)←E{Z.g(〖w(k)Z〗^T)} E{Z.g (〖w(k)Z〗^T)} (6) Where g( ) is a nonlinear function. Since derivative of kurtosis can be used as a nonlinear function g(x)=x3 (7) On substituting (7) in (6), w_newi (k+1)←E{Z.(〖w(k)Z〗^T)} 3E{Z〖〖(w(k)Z〗^T)〗^2} (8) Due to the property of unit variance, the equation (8) becomes, w_newi (k+1)←E{Z.(〖w(k)Z〗^T)} 3w(k) (9) This is used in main iteration of proposed algorithm for weight updation. The Fig 2 shows the architecture of iteration process defined in (9) for 2 sources .
