What Is Southwest Airlines Case Study
Recommendation
Over the years Southwest Airlines has steadily grew, but their growth has been highly controlled. This
highly controlled growth has allowed them to avoid the trap of growing beyond their means. With the
acquisition of AirTran Air, it accelerated Southwest Airlines entry into the international markets. As
we hold a large investment in Southwest Airlines, I believe this merger with AirTran Air will not affect
the strategy and culture of Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines strategy and culture has a history of
being successful as well as creating large profits for the company and its stakeholders. I do see
Southwest Airlines maintaining their laser like focus on their basic strategy, but it will take time to
fully transition Southwest Airlines strategy and culture to AirTran Air. With this said we should retain
our investment in Southwest Airlines as the company has been consistently profitable for decades and
has weathered hardships such as, the September 11 terrorist attacks, and the 2008 2009 recession.
While making my decision to retain our investment in Southwest Airlines I analyzed Southwest
Airlines performance in the U.S airline industry, as well as looked at Southwest s operations,
strategy/culture. The advantages to my recommendation of retaining our investment in Southwest
Airlines is that our company could see high returns for our customers and shareholders. In addition,
our investment in Southwest Airlines could increase in size, which would

would no longer be his father s name sake. In his early teens he and his brothers lived with his father

lucky enough to be a mechanic who was able to work on the construction of Lindbergh s famous
aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis. Lindbergh s celebrated transatlantic flight in May 1927 inspired many
young men, and some young women as well, to be pioneers in aviation, but none more than Douglas

Hip Hop And The Aesthetics Of Criminalization Analysis
Hip hop has been and still is a huge influence on pop culture. It sets the theme, tone and even style for
the younger generation and the pop culture side helps you know which artists are in right now and
which are not. Hip hop dates back to the 1970s created in the South Bronx but it only really became
popular in the 1990s. According to the article Hip Hop and the Aesthetics of Criminalization by
Andrea Queeley in it states that hip hop was meant to express the Black and Latino experiences of
urban poverty but ended up hurting those races because it soon turned into perpetuating racist
stereotypes and racial discourse. Personally I feel that at one point in time there were messages of
positivity or takeaways in general about life and that

Introduction Of A Primary Alcohol
Substitution
5. Introduction In this experiment, a primary alcohol was converted into a primary bromoalkane using
hydrobromic acid. The reaction was done under reflux and then distilled to obtain a product of higher
purity. The degree of the alkyl halide obtained from the experiment was tested with silver nitrate and
sodium iodide. An infrared (IR) spectra and the weight of the product were obtained for further
analysis. The IR gave information on the present functional groups and product weight was used to
calculate the percent yield.
6. Data and Results The product obtained after reflux was a yellow liquid. With the halide tests, the
product reacted faster with sodium iodide to form a precipitate than with silver nitrate. This indicates
that the degree of the product was primary and that bromine did replace the alcohol group. The IR of
the product showed four peaks at 3326.36, 2932.86, 1465.34, and 1028.73. These peaks indicate O H,
C H, C H3, and C O bonds, respectively, within the product. 2.032 grams of product were recovered
from the reaction. With this, a percent yield of 27.14% was calculated. 7. Discussion and Conclusion
Nucleophilic aliphatic substitution is the replacement of one group for another at a saturated, sp3
hybridized carbon atom. This process is often used to interconvert functional groups, such as in the
preparation of alkyl halides. In these reactions, nucleophiles attack the carbon atom which the
electronegative leaving group breaks its bond

John Marshall s Effect on the American Judicial System Essays
John Marshall s Effect on the American Judicial System I.Introduction In the early years of the
eighteenth Century, the young United States of America were slowly adapting to the union and the
way the country was governed. And just like the country, the governmental powers were starting to
develop. Since the creation of the Constitution and due to the Connecticut Compromise, there is the
Executive, the Legislative and the Judicial Power. But the existence of those powers was not always
that naturally. In these crucial times, the Judicial Power had problems controlling the other powers. It
was a challenge for the Supreme Court to exercise the powers granted by the new Constitution.

Thomas Marshall a desire and eager to educate his son. He was the most influencing person through
John Marshall s early years. As he stated later as an adult, He superintended my education . . . and to

My Passion For Music
From day to day, I live trying to figure out my purpose of being in this world. No child is born a
mistake irrespective of the circumstances. I was born with a talent, although, yet to be discovered. A
talent is a symbol of who a person really is. When I was younger, my dad put me through music
school hoping that I would learn to play the piano because he wished he did when he was my age. I
was not a big fan of playing the piano so I struggled most of the time. My fingers were so stiff and my
instructor would request that I moisturize and massage them to make them more flexible. However,
the underlying issue was my lack of interest and not my un cooperating fingers.
For some, Music is a way to express how they feel. People see through a person with the sound of
music. Since I really had no interest in the piano, I decided to take a look at other instruments. My
passion for music was decreasing as I could not find an instrument that my hands found pleasure in. A
friend of mine said I should try the violin. She described it as a classical instrument that soothes the
soul. The first few weeks I learned how to play the violin, I started to get a hang of it but as I played I
would always dance. It was weird to my classmates but dancing with the sounds the violin made me
so happy.
One s interest typically leads one to one s talent eventually, one step at a time. This is evident from a
popular quote Talent can t be taught, but it can be awakened by Wallace Stegner.

Relayed through Jib Fowles Fifteen basic appeals in Advertising
In the world we live in today advertising has all but consumed us as Americans. An essay entitled
Advertising s Fifteen Basic Appeals by Jib Fowles explains how advertisements affect and influence
us daily in society. He explains how marketers through advertisements play on your needs, emotional
feelings and sometimes desires to draw consumer to their brands. Fowles discusses fifteen main
appeals that marketers use in ads and commercials in hopes we will purchase their product. In the
October issue of Glamour Magazine there s an ad promoting the brand BEBE. In this ad it has a

The fact that he s standing there that makes us pay closer attention to her. At the bottom of this picture
there s caption that catches your eye Nina in NYC. Where does the night take you? . This question and
the writing across the second going into third frame (9pm to 5am: Obey all the rules, you miss all the
fun) demands us to pay attention through an open question and a rebellious overtone and essentially
takes us to the last frame. In accordance with Fowles s theory everything I ve mentioned grabbed our
attention and actually takes us to the next frame.
This last picture of the ad was introduced by a passage from the second to third frame stating, 9pm to
5am: Obey all the rules, you miss all the fun . This in words is the essence of the ad letting you know
that the pictures are a timeline, and it also says to live a little without being direct. Here the woman is
on her knees in the middle of the bed. By centering the woman in the bed looking in what we perceive
is the morning light we have no choice but to give this attention. Fowles says advertisers will exhibit
the models, in their beauty and here we have a beautiful woman in the morning light sun ray making
her face glow. Behind the woman in the bed very inconspicuous like is her date also basking in the
morning sun. In like all the frames her eyes never meet the camera which makes you pay attention to
her. This action alone draws you in. This was all

Vengeance And Dantes
Revenge is often seen as a double edged sword. The victim is consumed with the need for revenge yet
the satisfaction derived from the act of vengeance is never enough to satiate their appetite. However, I
was once falsely accused of an act, and when I was able to orchestrate my own revenge I felt my
hunger for revenge satisfied. However, Hall s article Revenge: Will Your Feel Better? argues using
statistics from studies conducted to understand this phenomenon, and states that revenge will not be
able to satisfy the victim. Based on this data, one can infer that Edmond Dantes will not encounter the
satisfaction that he so desperately craves as he will not be able to move on. In Revenge: Will You Feel
Better? Kevin Carlsmith conducted an experiment

The Effects Of Sleep And Sleep Deprivation On The Body
Michael Ly Professor Hayley Thayer COMM 130 28 September 2014 The Effects of Sleep and Sleep
Deprivation Has on the Body. Specific Purpose: To inform the audience about why we need sleep and
what happens if you are sleep deprived. Thesis: Sleep is crucial for any living creature and lacking an
adequate amount of sleep is detrimental to health. Introduction Attention Getter: Many of us will
spend about a third of our lives sleeping, yet don t know why we need sleep or how important it is for
the body. Did you know you can die faster from sleep deprivation than food deprivation. Credibility
Statement: I am a person who suffers from sleep deprivation, I generally only have about 4 hours
worth of sleep everyday. I am extremely fascinated about sleep and the impact it has on the body since
it is something that affects all living creatures. Preview of Main Points: First, I will discuss why we
get sleepy. Second, I will discuss why we need sleep. Third, I will discuss the effects of sleep
deprivation. II. Main Point: Causes of Sleepiness Transition: We all know that sleep is important for
the body but why do we get sleepy? The amount of light that our eye receives during the dusk and
dawn creates or suppresses hormones that help us sleep. Our eye has intrinsically photosensitive

The Watchmen Mythology
The Watchmen is a action, mystery, and sci fi film which is directed by Zack Snyder and tells the story
of a dystopia 1985. Each character in the film has their own significance and through the flashbacks of
certain characters we find out how the world, and the characters, ended up the way they did. When the
group of retired superheroes return from their retirement, they are called back together once again to
investigate the murder of the comedian who is one of their own. The death of the comedian leads to
his investigation which also leads Rorschach on the journey of a monumental conspiracy. After

An example of a character representing an ethical theory is Ozymandias. Ozymandias represents the
theory of pleasure and pain as he focuses particularly on organized crime and earning a reputation as
the smartest man on the planet. Jeremy Bentham the philosopher believed that pleasure and pain are
the two motivating forces in life. Ozymandias knows that to gain the pleasure in what he wants can
cause pain but he chose the decision in life in which would give him a higher output of pleasure and a
lower output of pain and in the end he is deemed as the smartest man in the world. Another example of
ethical theories is how Ozymandius has a utilitarianism approach. He believes that the greatest amount
of good done to the greatest amount of people is the right way to go, even if it involves killing or lying
and this belief if called utilitarianism. In The Watchmen, Ozymandius displays his own ethical theory
which leads to him sort of helping save millions of lives because in the film he tries to make Doctor
Manhattan seem like the bad guy. He believes that humans are not capable of avoiding a nuclear war
because in his eyes World War III is inevitable and billions will be killed for sure. In the end,
Ozymandius actions are right because they are useful and are for the benefit of a majority of people.
Finally, Rorschach is also an example of a character in The

Hegemony In American Foreign Policy
Hegemony is one of few different logics pertaining to American foreign policy. It is defined as
preponderant influence or authority, especially of one nation over another (Callahan, 2004, p. 12). In
other words, the United States can be seen as the dominate nation over all other nations. This concept
was first mentioned in Notes on the Southern Question (1926) by Antonio Gramsci and was defined as
a system of class alliance in which a hegemonic class exercised political leadership over subaltern
classes by winning them over (Ramos Jr., 1982). The logic of hegemony, as it relates to American
foreign policy, is based on the idea that the United States would use its influence over other countries
in order to provide leadership. Through

Immanuel Kant And Karl Marx
In an effort to understand progress and its goal in humanity, philosophers Immanuel Kant and Karl
Marx each present their theories with Kant believing progress is made through the reform brought on
by antagonism and social instability in humanity which will ultimately lead to perpetual peace, while
Marx argues progress comes in the form of a worker s revolution and the adoption of true communism
that will lead to utopia. These German thinkers seek to define the guiding the force beneath humanity
s constant state of evolution to understand where it is headed and advise towards a goal they find ideal
for humanity.
Through an analysis of human characteristics, Immanuel Kant concludes progress is driven by
humanity s innate behavior of contempt for one another, which he refers to as antagonism. In Kant s
essay On Universal History , his fourth thesis states, The means employed by Nature to bring about
the development of all the capacities of men is their antagonism in society, so far as this is, in the end,
the cause of a lawful order among men. By this, Kant means that man finds himself in mutual
opposition with his peers, but this opposition, as deemed by nature, is the force driving mankind s
development. According to Kant, man has a conflicting, natural tendency to both associate and isolate
himself from others. The former because society gives him the ability to feel he is more developed
than his individual capacities allow for, and the latter is a consequence of his

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Real Time System
Advantages of Real Time Systems: When it comes to the benefits and drawbacks stage, there are
several advantages of real time systems. First of all, while using all the sources and maintaining all
devices active, real time systems helps to give maximum consumption of the systems and enable us
much more output. In addition to these systems, it is not observed little or no down time. Thus, they
enable to servers to use them which are hosted in order to give maximum output of hosting
organizations. Moreover, it provides immediate updating of its databases and very quick responses to
its user inquiries (Ben Ari, M, 1990). Secondly, real time systems can be taken into consideration in

First of all, in these systems, there tasks are restricted and limited tasks are run simultaneously.
Concentration of real time systems are on several applications in order to avoid mistakes and rest of
the tasks have to wait. In addition to this drawback, sometimes it is unpredictable and there is not any
time restriction in order to show how much the waiting tasks should wait (Liu, Jane W.S., 2000).
Second disadvantage is that, a lot of resources are used by real time systems which are not adequate
and very expensive. In addition, real time systems are overpriced due to the resources that they need in
order to work. Thirdly, the real time systems run several tasks and keep focus on them. This is not a
good solution for these systems which use plenty of multi threading due to weak thread priority
(Martin, James, 1965). Fourth problem is that, real time systems use different and complex algorithms
in order to reach to the target level and desired output. The problem is that this kind of complex
algorithms are difficult for designers in order write. So, the designers have to write adequate program
for this kind of systems which is not easy. In addition, real time systems have to make clear its
interrupt signals and device drivers in order to respond quickly to interrupts. As the fifth problem, it is
observed that, there are low priority tasks which do not get enough time in order to run. The problem
is that, the real

Shipping Patented By E Commerce Giant
Anticipatory shipping is a method of shipping patented by e commerce giant Amazon in December
2013. During the normal shipping process, an e commerce retailer or goods manufacturer receives a
customer order specifying the exact address where the product is to be delivered. The company then
prepares the package and hands it over to a shipping service provider such as FedEx for delivery. The
delay of multiple days between order placement and actual delivery is a major impediment to the wide
acceptance of e commerce. It forces e commerce companies to offer incentives like cash on delivery to
their customers. Anticipatory shipping is aimed at cutting the delivery time and improving the
experience for e commerce users. With this technique, a company will ship products even before an
order is placed by a customer. It would specify only a partial address indicating destination
geographical area for delivery. While the packages are in transit, the company will employ advanced
analytics and forecasting techniques to predict which customers would want to buy the shipped
products. Then it could use targeted marketing and sales promotions to induce such customers to buy
the products. If a customer indeed places an order, the company would provide exact delivery address
to the shipping service provider and the products could be delivered much quicker, even on the same
day.

Iago Personality In Othello
Description
Iago is a twenty eight year old man, who is the ensign of the Othello, the play s protagonist. He is very
selfish, hence he manipulates Othello, Roderigo, and Cassio. Throughout the play, characters have
described Iago as an honest and trustworthy man, while not knowing the real him.
Personality Traits
Iago is jealous, dishonest, duplicitous, manipulative, and evil. His jealousy is shown when he is
furious of Cassio becoming the military lieutenant, instead of him. His dishonesty can be seen when
Iago continuously lies to Othello about his wife cheating on him. His duplicity is revealed when Iago
praises Othello in front of him, but badmouths him when around other characters. He is manipulative,
as he uses Roderigo s thirst for Desdemona to do his dirty work: fighting Cassio. His evil nature is
portrayed when he ruins the life of Othello, through convincing him to kill his wife, Desdemona.
Quotes Iago s essence is his deceptiveness. This is shown when Iago reveals his personal qualities,
and through the death of Roderigo. Firstly, when Roderigo questions Iago about why he is loyal to
Othello, Iago reveals his true self. Iago states, In following him [Othello], I follow but myself. [...] But
I will wear my heart upon my sleeve [f]or daws to peck at. I am not what I am (I.i.60 67). Iago reveals
that it may seem as if he is following Othello, but he really is doing it for himself, not for his devotion
towards Othello. By saying I am not what I am , he shows

Happiness And Happiness In The Art Of Happiness
You should never stress about being happy, happiness is in everyone deep in down we just have to do
certain things in order to let it shine. According to McMahon in order to be happy there s no need to
think about it. McMahan states in paragraph eleven, Those who are happy, he came to believe, who
have their minds fixed on some object other than their own happiness; on the happiness of others, on
the improvement of mankind, even on some art of pursuit, followed not as means, but as itself an ideal
end. McMahon believes you should be a part of something bigger than yourself. This means help out
others by doing something you normally wouldn t do something out of the ordinary. Helping others
gives you a heart warming feeling, and many can agree on this. Lastly Mill does believe you should
spend time with people that mean the most to you like loved ones, a little of our happiness is based on
the people we surround ourselves with. McMahon is right about being apart of something bigger than
yourself because helping others be happy makes us feel good about ourselves, and more confidence to
keep pursuing it.
Be yourself and always move forward, happiness doesn t come from being someone you re not.
According to berns in the video Ted talk you should always move on if you can t do something, focus
on what you can. When people are stuck on something they tend to give up and feel very self
conscience best thing to do is walk away from the situation and do what you re best at. We need a
positive attitude in order to achieve what we want and to be essentially happy. Sam Berns chose to be
happy he chose not to let the little things get in his way of achieving what he wanted, it s all based on
you. Yes he could have been sad, because of the horrible disease that stopped him to doing bigger
things in life yet he was still smiling and moving forward as always his muato.
Some people may say you should spend money on yourselfs and materialistic items to be happy.
Every person s desire is to be truly happy, they do believe that money can fit that desire for
themselves. According to the Ted Talk called Happy many people who were wealthy were are the ones
who were suffering the most from unhappiness. Theory is they did

Being A Workaholic In The Censors By Luisa Valenzuela
The story The Censors written by Luisa Valenzuela is about a man named Juan climbing up the ladder
of his career as a censor to find the letter he sent. However, as the story progresses, Juan became
devoted to his work and forgot his original purpose of becoming a censor. Valenzuela wrote, Soon his
work became so absorbing that his noble mission blurred in his mind. (Valenzuela, 41). At the end, he
saw his career as the priority over his life, and he was killed. From this story, I was inspired to write
about being a workaholic, which is defined as a person who compulsively works excessively hard and
long hours (oxforddictionaries.com). The issue of being a workaholic is not as simple as it sounds.

Workaholism also affects ones health substantially. In The Censors , Juan was so loyal to his work as a
censor that he even gave up his life at the end. Valenzuela wrote, Naturally, he censored [his letter]
without regret. And just as naturally, he couldn t stop them from executing him the following morning,
another victim of his devotion to his work. (Valenzuela, 413). In this quote, his life symbolized health,
thus evidently showing the damage to his health due to workaholism. Workaholism is considered a
health destroyer, which might as well turn out to be a life threatening silent killer. Studies shows that
long hours of work cause workers to be mentally unhealthy. They become more and more stressed due
to work and put themselves under a large amount of pressure. The most petrifying part is that work
stress can cause physical health problems. Huffpost affirmed, A number of studies have shown the
detrimental toll that work stress in particular can take on your health, including depression and an
increased risk of heart attack and diabetes. (Huffpost, huffingtonpost.com). To avoid these health
problems, managing a balance between work and free time is vital. A workaholic often gets trapped in
a bad life cycle. In The Censors , Juan gets home really late due to long hours of work, and he has no
time to ensure his life quality.

How Brands Gain Successful Exposure On The Market, And The...
5.1 KNOW THE RULES
The main aim of this study was to investigate the ways brands gain successful exposure in the market,
and the way they build relationships with consumers. Upon researching, it was found that there are
certain brands that do not necessarily follow the current advised procedures for this practice. One of
these brands is Apple Inc., and being one of the most cherished brands of all times, it was decided that
an investigation on its consumers behaviour would possibly shed light over the research question: Are
there exceptions to the current rules in the practice of brand communications and exposure? . To be
able to raise the hypothesis of the exception, the current procedures for successful brand exposure and
communications, were examined and analysed, and then compared to the survey s results on Apple s
consumers opinions.
5.2 SUMMARY OF THE STUDY
The review of literature has provided important information on how the 21st century market is shaped
and influenced by the digital technologies. It was observed that the direct effect derived from the
cultural transformation of the digital ages, has created new ways of receiving information and new
forms of communication amongst people. Consequently, it has also altered relationships between
brands and consumers.
Most experts are suggesting that brands should adjust according to the new rules of the market, which
imply that online existence is essential for achieving successful brand communications and

Personal Style Of Ee Cummings
EE Cummings was well known for his concise, non conforming, innovative works of literature, and it
was thought that his great forte [was] the manipulation of traditional forms and attitudes in an original
way ( E.E. Cummings ). His work stands out from others, especially against others of his time, and his
own personal style is shown in his works not only in the way he uses the form but also in the way he
uses words, grammar, punctuation, etc. He essentially made up his own rules on how literature should
be written. His poem l(a) displays his unique personal style in a way that it is compacted into a clear,
easily understood piece and which remains to impact the reader despite its short length ( E.E.
Cummings ). The poem l(a) contains a lot of meaning in a limited amount of words, portrays his
rebellion of form and structure in poetry, as well as expresses his desire for literature to be visually
appealing.
Cummings was efficient with words when writing all of his poems, including l(a) , and even though it
is merely a sentence in length, its simplicity truly makes it a form of art. Comprised of only twenty
letters, it reads A leaf falls, loneliness , and it is a great example of how pieces of minimalistic
literature still have an impact on its readers, regardless of its short length. Comprised of a total of only
four words, the overall message of loneliness is still quite clear. The image of a single leaf falling is
familiar to many, aside from witnessing it in

rate of reaction in part B is slower because of the non competitive inhibitor that was acting upon the

error and causing it to be slightly unreliable. Failing to change the hydrogen peroxide from part A to a
new solution in part B may be an example of human error. An experimental error that may have
affected the results obtained during the experiment was the labs failure to mention to mix the two
substances, hydrogen peroxide and copper II sulphate in part B. Failure to mention this simple
instruction may have led to the outliers in time retrieved in part B for the experiment. In the first trial
when the filter timed out at 240 seconds at the bottom of the beaker, it may have been caused by the
un dissolved copper II sulphate still at the bottom of the beaker. Another experimental error was that
during the experiment it was stated that if one was able to hurry and do the first two trials quickly then

A Controversial Issue Of Pi
A controversial issue for this book would definitely be the religion. Pi s mother and father found it
totally absurd to have more than one religion, and contradicting ones at that. As did the pandit, the
priest, and the imam. In the book, there is a three page long argument between the priest, the imam,
the pandit, and Pi s parents all claiming the other is mistaken and that Pi is a Muslim or a Hindu or a
Christian. Pi blurts out, Bapu Gandhi said, All religions are true. I just want to love God, (Martel 69).
Another controversial issue dealing with Life of Pi that is not necessarily in the book but rather
dealing with people who have read the book. Many people believe the story Pi tells about being at sea
with the animals is truth, while others believe it is with people. There have actually been debates on
whether or not the people version is true. Which, in the book, it says, So tell me, since it makes no
factual difference to you and you can t prove the question either way, which story do you prefer?
Which is the better story, the story with animals or the story without animals? (Martel 317). It does not
actually state which story is the truth, but the reader must make their own inference to piece together
what they think.

Healthcare System in Great Britain
Health Care System in Great Britain
Organization of health care in Great Britain
Health care in the United Kingdom is devolved depending states: other states like Scotland and
Northern Ireland are separate entities and do not form part of the UK medical healthcare system. The
states have their own private and public sectors of health care to the people. Devolution stretches to
every activity that is concerned with delivering of health care facilities and personalities required that
serve the citizens. The model of offering health care among the citizens of the United Kingdom is
different from those of other states like Wales and Scotland. Moreover, the policies and strategies of
health care are different between the United Kingdom and other states.
Great Britain stands on its own as a separate entity that ensures the citizens of the federal government
have accessed equitable health care services. The payments of the health care services offered by the
states go all the citizens is catered for by the general taxation body within the federal government.
Every state has a private health care centre that is smaller than the public health care sector. The
private health care provisions are provided by the private sector through direct funding by the patient
or through taxation accruals in cases where the patient suffers complicated cases like AIDS/HIV
(Dewar, 2010).
The United Kingdom was ranked as the fifth best in the world by the world health organization. This

Mental Benefits Of Matcha
For the past few years, green tea has been gaining a lot of popularity, especially to those who are in
search of a drink that would improve their metabolism and a java free caffeine kick. Though, aside
from that, one of the reasons that a lot of people are getting more and more interested in drinking
matcha, and why matcha powder is available in most grocery stores, is because of its mental benefits.
That said, here s how matcha can improve brain functioning and productivity.
1. It Helps in Maintaining the Health of the Cerebral Cortex
Regular consumption of matcha green tea can improve the health of the cerebral cortex part of the
brain. This has been proven based on the experiment conducted on pre diabetic rats. Wherein, it has

One study suggests that matcha contains 3 times more EGCG content than other regular green teas.
This is because matcha contains the entire green tea leaf in powdered form unlike traditional teas

The green tea catechins have also shown dramatic neuro protective results in several experiments

Still Alice Humanism Analysis
Linus Pauling said, (that) Humanism is a philosophy of joyous service for the greater good of all
humanity, of application of new ideas of scientific progress for the benefit of all (1961). From this
speech, it displays the main them of humanism and it also inspires a several ways to many people. In
the novel Still Alice by Lisa Genova 2007, the concept of humanism influences on her perception.
This concept is a moral philosophy which mainly focuses on the value or of human being. It uses the
logical reasoning to improve the ability of human being and to understand the world. Humanism is
seemingly to looking forward to science. As a result, in Still Alice novel manifests a lot of elements of
humanism whether it be human rights, rational life and progressive philosophy of life which are three
main elements of humanism.
The idea of human rights is one of the significant elements of humanism. For example, John Howland
got promoted at work. So, he had to move to New York while Alice did not want to go to New York.
They tried to convert each other but it cannot change their own decisions. Thus, in the end of the novel
(P.325), John moved to New York and Alice still lived in Cambridge. From this, it reveals about

church for praying to god. She accepted the reality and struggled with her bad disease. So, Alice

everything is rational not supernatural because in the end of the story there are no magic items which

Film Analysis of The Graduate Directed by Mike Nichols Essays
Mrs. Robinson, you are trying to seduce me, says Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman). The
Graduate, directed by Mike Nichols in 1967 is an influential satire/comedy film about a recent East
Coast college graduated who finds himself alienated and aimless in the changing, social and sexual
general public of the 1960s, and questioning the values of society. The theme of the film is of an
innocent and confused youth who is exploited, mis directed, seduced (literally and figuratively) and
betrayed by a corrupt, self indulgent, and discredited older generation (that finds stability in plastics )
that I found to be quite clear and understanding, while also capturing the real spirit of the times and

filled with other passengers of all different ages. He is returning home to Los Angeles from college in

almost zombie like looking. [The beginning and end of the film are very similar with each other the
young couple, is surrounded by a busload of passengers, but still remain isolated and unemotional.]
Benjamin stands mute to himself on the automated, moving walkway at the busy LAX airport the
camera is positioned to reveal Ben s left profile while the frame height is a medium close shot
allowing Ben s image to dilute in the viewers mind. In this profile shot, the character is positioned to
the right third of the frame to allow sufficient space in front of Ben. This is done in order to not cluster
the characters line of sight as seen by the viewer. Dustin Hoffman s character appears to be lost,
confused, and in the midst of discovering his life. The soundtrack also plays an important role in this
interpretation. The song Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkle establishes a feeling of sadness; it
s a non digital sound that expresses a melancholy reaction, it also reinforces the theme of his
emptiness and alienation from his surroundings.

Public Policy Concerning Education During Prisons
Public policy concerning education in prisons decisively emphasizes punitive programming over
rehabilitate or educational programming. In regards to higher education in prisons the persuasive
public echo of why should criminals get for free what the rest of us pay for is a falsehood built on the
backs of these rulings. I would argue that the education paid for through incarceration entails a greater
personal cost of freedoms than a paid tuition could ever represent. I doubt anyone would ever go to
prison to obtain a free education. The ever increasing costs of higher education invoke a regime of
scarcity that produces anxiety within the working and middle class. Higher education no longer
represents automatic future economic security, furthering social fear. I would argue against the
elimination of higher education in prisons; research shows that prison education reduces recidivism
rates and improves public safety (Chappell). Education behind bars means a greater likelihood of post
release employment. Post release employment means stability and independence. Stability and
independence mean a lower chance of recidivism. Criminal justice researchers Richard Tewksbury
and Kenneth Stengel conclude a more abstract benefit of prison education than just reducing
recidivism, Participation in educational programs yields a positive influence on the psychological well
being of inmates, reduces rule infractions, and enrolled inmates serve as role models to other inmates

Minimum Legal Drinking Age
Young adults drinking under the age of 21 only has negative impacts on today s society and will only
get worse by lowering the minimum legal drinking age. Currently, the legal drinking age in the United
States is 21 years old and it should stay that way. Reason being, that only positive results have come
from making the minimum legal drinking age 21. These positive results include lower costs, less
alcohol related car crashes, and avoiding other dangers like unwanted pregnancy and young adults
being unable to defend themselves while under the influence of dangerous characters. At the age of
18, you may be considered an adult, but you do not have all of the rights that a 21 year old holds.

Underage drinking actually costs the United States a lot of money. In 2007, underage drinking cost the
U.S. $68 billion or $1 for every single drink consumed (Haynes, Melodee). You may ask, how can this
be? Well to get to our total of $68 billion, first, there are the medical bills from accidents related to the
consuming of alcohol underage which totaled to about $7.4 billion. Also, $14.9 billion from income
loss and $45.7 billion from pain and suffering which totals to $68 billion, the total amount of money
spent towards this issue (Haynes, Melodee). Since lowering the drinking age will increase car crashes,
insurance rates will rise because of higher premiums from traffic accidents or convictions for driving
under the influence. Other things that may cost you money are the unwanted pregnancies from teens
being drunk and having unprotected sex. This will either lead to an abortion, which costs money, or
you will need to take care of the baby, which can cause an endless amount of money. Also, the child
could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) which would add even more expenses for treatment.

The Historiography of the Origins of the Cold War Essay
The Historiography of the Origins of the Cold War
There have been many attempts to explain the origins of the Cold War that developed between the
capitalist West and the communist East after the Second World War. Indeed, there is great
disagreement in explaining the source for the Cold War; some explanations draw on events pre 1945;
some draw only on issues of ideology; others look to economics; security concerns dominate some
arguments; personalities are seen as the root cause for some historians. So wide is the range of the

George Kennan, the architect of the Long Telegram, was one of the leading voices, publishing the
traditionalist viewpoint both privately in the Long Telegram of 22 February 1946, as well as publicly
in the anonymous article The Sources of Soviet Conduct in the July 1947 issue of Foreign Affairs
(McCauley 9). Soon after, most of the Western world joined Kennan in the view that: at the bottom of
the Kremlin s neurotic view of world affairs is traditional and instinctive Russian sense of insecurity
(McCauley 131). Kennan warned that, they have learned to seek security only in patient but deadly
struggle for total destruction of rival power, never in compacts and compromises with it (McCauley

Indeed, this sentiment that the Russian side had no desire to compromise was echoed by many
Western academics, including Arthur Schlesinger Jr. who wrote in the article The Origins of the Cold
War in the October 1967 Foreign Affairs:
There is no corresponding evidence on the Russian side that anyone seriously sought a modus vivendi
in these terms. Stalin s choice was whether his long term ideological and national interests would be
better served by a short run truce with the West or by an immediate resumption of pressure. In October
1945, Stalin indicated to Harriman at Sochi that he planned to adopt the second course... (McCauley

the Joker makes her go through when taking naked pictures of her. Barbara is clothed in low neck
shirt, and a knee high dress, and during her shooting, while she falls, more and more of her legs are
exposed, along with a small portion of her cleavage in the last panel. The vulgarity of the scene
immediately implies a relation to a sexual act, in this case, most probably being sexually violated by
the Joker. The emotions brought up by the illustration in the first two panels come rushing back to the
reader, but with a greater impact. They eventually realize the pain Barbara is going through in the
duration of the sequence. Although the writers and illustrators could have chosen a simple shirt and
pant, the dress and low cut shirt, which allowed a more revealing illustration of Barbara, do a better
job in presenting and foreshadowing her sexual assault. Similarly, the particular place where Barbara
is shot by the Joker implies the same ideas. The Joker shoots Barbara in her pelvic area, in order to
break her spine and paralyze her. Even though the spine could have been broken by shooting

Economies Of Brazil, Russia, India, And China
BRIC is an acronym for the economies of Brazil, Russia, India, and China combined, originally
projected to be the fastest growing market economies by Jim O Neill of Goldman Sachs first in 2001,
but most prominently in a follow up paper published in 2003 (( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC,
n.d.). The Goldman Sachs thesis states they, Brazil, Russia, India, and China, have the potential to
form a powerful economic bloc ( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC, n.d.). Just thirty prior, Brazil,
Russia, India, and China were all struggling in some fashion. Brazil was dealing with over inflation.
Russia was behind the Iron Curtain. India made the mistake of kicking IBM and Coca Cola out of
their country, and China was in recovery mode from the Cultural Revolution. Now, each of these
countries are on the rise, and China is likely surpass the United States by having the World s largest
economy. One thing that these countries have in common are low labor and production costs. Due to
lower labor and production costs, many companies also cite BRIC as a source of foreign expansion
opportunity, and promising economies in which to invest ( Brazil, Russia, India, and China BRIC,
n.d.). There is no doubt Brazil, Russia, India, and China all have powerful economies that are
currently busting at the seams. . The likely evolution of the BRICs is one filled with economic growth
and rapid expansion. All of the BRICs are on the verge of rapid market growth. In fact, they all

command is minus 5 / lowercase letter L .) 7. Compute multiple regression equation (vy is response,

the stem command In some versions of Stata, there is a potential glitch with Stata s stem command for
stem and leaf plots. The stem function seems to permanently reorder the data so that they are sorted
according to the variable that the stem and leaf plot was plotted for. The best way to avoid this
problem is to avoid doing any stem and leaf plots (do histograms instead). However, if you really want
to do a stem and leaf plot you should always create a variable containing the original observation
numbers (called index, for example). A command to do so is: generate index = _n If you do this, then
you can re sort the data after the stem and leaf plot according to the index variable: sort index. Then,
the data are back in the original order. Summary of These and Other Commands Here is a list of the
commands demonstrated above and some other commands that you may find useful (this is by no
means an exhaustive list of all Stata commands): anova | general ANOVA, ANCOVA, or regression |

World War 1-Who Was to Blame
World War 1 who was to blame? World War 1 broke out when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of
Austria was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip in 1914, whose organization implicated members of
Serbian military. For this reason, the Austro Hungarian Empire declared war on Serbia, supported by
Germany. This triggered chain reaction, nations in Europe declaring war on the other nations, which,
with in a month, caused Europe to turn into a battlefield. The Great War was ended, when the Treaty
of Versailles and several other treaties were signed in 1919 and Germany was fully held responsible
for causing the war. But it is not justified, that Germany, and Germany alone, should be held
responsible for the outbreak of the war, even though her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

German imperialism, the Kaiser s ambition of over sea empire, and nationalism, the thought of

elements were the causes of World War 1 but what has made the war inevitable was the alliance
system that existed at that time. The alliance system, which at that time was used to prevent any war,
has caused this huge war when Austro Hungarian Empire declared war on Serbia, and making it

with countries in the Balkans. As Austro Hungarian Empire declares war on Serbia, Russia mobilizes

Why Is It Important To Have A Reckless Driving

The Memelon
Nature Morte, essentially still life, refers to the portrayal of inanimate objects within images. One
Artist, recognized for his iconic impressionistic still life work, is Edouard Manet (1832 1883). Manet
is revered for being a key instigator in the transition from realism to impressionism; his still life
impressionism works were amongst those considered the genesis of the impressionist movement in the
late 19th Century. Manet was raised in Paris, to affluent family. Upon failure to make it into the Navy,
Manet began to find his love for art and painting. Manet s work The Melon (c.1880), a still life
painting of a single watermelon, encapsulates this historical movement of still life paintings.
Manet s titular work The Melon s solitary subject matter is a watermelon. The composition of this
painting is simple, a trait of Manet s which developed along side his journey into impressionism.
Despite being a journey that was heavily criticized, it is the style and nuance of Manet s melon, which
sets it apart from traditional still life images. The melon is isolated. It s placed on an innocuous beige
support, against a solid black background. However it is through the use of this space around the
Melon that Manet is able to utilize the light, which floods the left side of the melon, to create a very

Define State Consciousness And The Phenomenal Aspect Of...
Define state consciousness and the phenomenal aspect of conscious (When we say a mental state is
state conscious we mean to identify not only that there is a relational property that we attribute to that
mental state, namely, state consciousness, but also that there is something it s like, an affiliated
phenomenal character, for the bearer of that state.)
MAKE SURE YOU PROPERLY TIE IN HOW PHENOMENAL ASPECT LINKS IN AND HOW IT
LINKS IN WITH STATE CONSCIOUS, that they actually link in there s just two aspects to the one
consciousness. Something like this essay will take for granted that the what it is like part of
consciousness exists.
When a mental state is conscious, we are conscious of being in that state; so the content of our HOT
must be, roughly, that one is in that very state (Rosenthal the hypothesis)
Firstly, I d like to define, via Rosenthal, the phenomenal aspect that accompanies a state conscious
mental state. In some of his work (see Rosenthal, 2004) restricts the definition so that the phenomenal
aspect associated with state consciousness is only associated with state conscious sensations.
However, he less restrictedly says (Rosenthal, 2011 p 421) that a state s being conscious is a matter of
mental appearance of how one s mental life appears to one and that a state is conscious only if one is
subjectively aware of oneself as being in that state which does not require for the phenomenal aspect
to only be associated with sensations, and may also, as Lurz

Discrepancy Between Anaerobic And Aquatic Analysis
There is a discrepancy regarding anaerobic and aerobic capacity between different species of marine

be used quickly but are also scarce when it comes to prolonged use. White muscle fibers are primarily
used in organisms that have short bursts of strong energy (Dickson, 1993). To focus on the white
muscle fibers, any red muscle fibers were not allowed in the samples (Somero, 1980). To keep
consistency, my group tried to take muscle samples from the same spot on each species because of

They prefer to be in sandy areas in shallow or deep water (Chesapeake Bay). Croakers are bottom
feeders which means that they eat food on the ocean floor. This is because they are found in deep
water. A bottom feeder diet includes other small fish and crustaceans (Chesapeake Bay). Shrimp can
tolerate any level of salinity and prefer to live in the bottom of shallow waters (Arnott, Neil, Ansell
1998). They typically feed on small fish and algae. They are also well known for their unique escape
mechanism of flipping off the sea floor and diving into the sediment to get away from predators
(Arnott, Neil, Ansell 1998). This short duration of spontaneous movement requires lots of white
muscle fibers. The objectives of this experiment were to gain the knowledge of how to perform an
enzyme assay, compare the LDH activity in three species, and to associate the LDH activity values
with the capacity for anaerobic metabolism. My group originally thought that all three of these
organisms would have higher LDH levels due to their daily activities. However due to more in depth
background information about their behaviors, my group hypothesized that croakers would have the
highest LDH activity levels due to their continuous migration between multiple habitats. This constant
movement requires a lot of energy. Our results showed that lizardfish had the highest LDH activity
values as opposed to our

An Analysis Of Flannery O Connor
The percentage of people who say they believe in God, pray, frequently go to religious services,
embrace minimal religious practices or find their faith meaningful has declined over the last 50 years.
A growing group of Americans do not believe in God or any organized faith. In fact, unbelief is even
fashionable. Religious conviction is perceived as burdensome or an outdated attitude easily discarded.
This is the backdrop upon which 20th century American, Southern Gothic writer, Flannery O Connor,
wrote her books and short stories in the 1950s and 1960s. She, in her short stories and books of
fiction, did not describe beautiful rooms or people living happily ever after; she wrote about the
human condition in the American South and the state of religious conviction. She wrote about
unbelievers, lukewarm souls, narcissists and the spiritually illiterate. She wrote about racists, white
trash, busy bodies and poor, beaten down black folks. She wrote about the unraveling of faith where
the default mode for her characters was apathy, smugness, desapir or indifference. She believed the
South was haunted by religion but as a group were literally swimming in mediocrity, cynicism and
emptiness a rough and tumble nihilism. They might say their faith mattered or attended services, but
many were just lying to their neighbors and themselves. To her, they were just checking the box with a
faith bordering on tepid and pathetic. She felt, given their current status, they would not know a

School Based Intervention
The purpose study was designed to examine the achievement of first generation immigrant children in
high poverty elementary schools who received a school based intervention. The intervention was
designed to help schools to identify developmental strength and barriers to learning. In addition, it
connected children to community and school supports to align with their strengths and needs. The
participants were 667 first generation immigrant children attending 8 high poverty urban elementary
schools. The study used a quasi experimental design that manipulated school level changes (presence
or absence of the intervention) and had two hypotheses. First, immigrant children who attended
schools when the intervention years would have higher achievement ... Show more content on

The study evaluated the academic, social/emotional, family and physical health well being of
immigrant children with a development for support plans based on the individual needs which build
on skills. The study used a multi method approach with qualitative and quantitative data including
multiple methods of measurement. In addition, longitudinal data was conducted as the intervention
delivery was carried out over a various amount of years. The authors did not over interpret data
discussion. They highlighted the developmental support systems theory that by aligning the child,
family, school, and community assets are critical for promoting positive development. The theory was
compared to the current study intervention linking a positive correlational data to academic
performance, and ELL and English proficiency first generation learners. The study did have internal
validity but rules out potential sources of bias; noted as a limitation. The authors addressed other
limitations; such as there was no potential sources between group variations (family migration, extent
of language isolation, etc.), the inability to precisely measure achievement gains (intervention need for
scientific steps to better guide the support to the barriers of learning), the inability to determine how
many years is enough support and whether the intervention might produce diminishing effects on
achievement once support is withdrawn. This study supports a school practice model and advances the
topic for the development of support plans for all socially disadvantaged students by attending to each
child s developmental strengths and needs; supporting cognitive, social, emotional and physical
growth; and aligning resources for families, schools, and communities in a culturally competent
approach. If I were the authors, I would want to know whether any of first generation students

What Is My Favorite Room Essay
MY FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD ROOM
Our house was over 100 years old, with long narrow windows and a black lacquered front door, made
of solid oak. When my dad stripped the lacquer off the door, it still showed the cut marks made by
charcoal or a pencil that served as a guide for the original door maker. Our house was a medium
brown colored two story stucco dwelling, nestled between old elm and pine trees that sat atop a hill. In
the winter if you stood at the very edge of the street, on your tipee toes, you could see Lake Calhoun at
the bottom of the hill. I loved my old house.
My room, located on the second floor, was shaped somewhat like a hotel suite, with a separate sitting
area that boasted two windows. On the wall next to the windows was the ... Show more content on

I also had a painting of Minnie Mouse, given to me by my great aunt as a Christmas present. She had
painted Mickey for the boys and Minnie for the girls. Minnie was allowed to grace my bedroom walls
because she wore a pretty pink dress and a great big pink bow in her ears.
My room was my haven, my place to play dress up, dance, daydream, whatever I wanted. Life was
perfect in my room, except, it wasn t pink. Begging my parents to paint or wallpaper my room pink
was a task that started and ended just about every day. I felt my room would be perfect if the walls
were a soft pastel, pretty shade of pink, not unlike the tutus I always saw and the dance shops. Every
day, I had to imagine my room was pink, with the windows trimmed in white. I can still see it now, as
I saw it in my mind s eye at six, my beautiful room, not with walls of drab white, but a soft, soothing,
sweet pink, like cotton candy at the state fair.
During the summer of my eighth year, my mother, one day called me into the house. Running inside, I
asked her what she needed. Go to your room, was all she said.
Horrified at the thought of being in trouble, I stammered that I hadn t done anything

Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century
Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace
change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The
first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the
Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second
are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights
Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in
the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player.
When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because
of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and
eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African
American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor
facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students
were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of
education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her
home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of
the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black
community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not
having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their
schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote.
A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south
(Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended

Judicial Branch Vs Executive Branch
Separations of powers is a principle of the United States government, giving powers and
responsibilities that are divided among the legislative branch, executive branch, and judicial branch.
Checks and balances are certain powers that each branch of our federal government have to check on
each other and make sure one branch isn t doing something against the Constitution. These balances
between the branches ensure that no branch becomes too powerful. Preventing this means that all of
the branches are equal and balanced and allows a fair federal government for the people.
The branch that has the greatest amount of checks over the other branches is the legislative branch.
They have the most checks over the other branches for many reasons. One reason is that this branch
has the most people in it, combing both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Also, this branch
is the most directly elected by the people and has people from every state. So, giving the branch that is
the largest and is closest to the people is a good idea. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can do this if it gets a 2/3 vote in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, limiting the
President s powers. The legislative branch also checks on the judicial branch. It can do this by
impeaching judges that are accused in the House and found guilty by a 2/3 vote in the Senate. On the
other hand, the executive branch can also check back on the legislative by vetoing laws that the
President thinks are unconstitutional. Furthermore, the President (executive branch), can pardon any
person convicted of a federal crime, outrunning and overruling the judicial branch s decision. Finally,
the judicial branch, while considered the weakest, also has checks on the other branches. Its check on
the legislative branch is declaring laws that it creates unconstitutional. Similarly, it can declare
executive acts

House Of Sand And Fog Character Analysis
There are two kinds of people in the world, some who think they are unrivaled, and others who think
they are overpowered. The difference between these two individuals is appearance. One thinks the
appearance they put forth is of prestige, while another thinks their appearance is of unworthiness.
Similarly, in the novel House of Sand and Fog, the characters face internal conflict where they want to
have a certain appearance, yet cannot fully achieve it. After recently separating from her husband and
getting rid of her Alcohol addiction, Kathy is trying her best to return back to normalcy with only the
inherited house she has left. However, after being evicted out of the house for false charges, Kathy
becomes even more lonely and and cogitates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nick, Kathy s ex husband unusually left her one day when he decided that he could not handle their
life together anymore. Kathy, who still thinks about why Nick left her often wonders how life would
be different if they were not separated. After getting evicted out of her humble abode, Kathy ponders,
My husband got to miss all this, that s what I kept thinking that he didn t have to be around for any of
this, and I was stuck at the El Rancho motel in San Bruno (Dubus, 34). These thoughts evidently
display that Kathy has still not moven away from her past, as the first person she thinks about right
after being evicted is her ex husband. Nonetheless, when she meets Lester Burdon, she instantly feels
an attraction towards him and feels that life has finally changed. However, their affair is short lived, as
Kathy feels that Lester does not want to fully divorce his wife, and so she tries to let go of him for his
own good. In one particular incident, Kathy is reminded of Lester by the gun he mistakenly left in the
car; In one fluid motion, I put the gas can in and pulled the coiled leather snake out, kept it under my
arm as I unlocked my door, rested it on the seat beside me me, what Lester left behind before we went
into the truck stop bar for our last dance, his sheriffness, his sword, like a gift he d willed me, a piece
of him to carry and remember him by (206). Through Lester s last remaining piece, his gun, Kathy
believes it is a significant reminder for her to stop running to him and take a step back. Although she is
trying to forget about him, it does not last for long as many things remind Kathy of Lester. Throughout
the novel Kathy is desolate and pensive, but not in a positive way. She tries to run away from her
negligent past by wasting away her present, which leads to many other mournful

  • 2. What Is Southwest Airlines Case Study Recommendation Over the years Southwest Airlines has steadily grew, but their growth has been highly controlled. This highly controlled growth has allowed them to avoid the trap of growing beyond their means. With the acquisition of AirTran Air, it accelerated Southwest Airlines entry into the international markets. As we hold a large investment in Southwest Airlines, I believe this merger with AirTran Air will not affect the strategy and culture of Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines strategy and culture has a history of being successful as well as creating large profits for the company and its stakeholders. I do see Southwest Airlines maintaining their laser like focus on their basic strategy, but it will take time to fully transition Southwest Airlines strategy and culture to AirTran Air. With this said we should retain our investment in Southwest Airlines as the company has been consistently profitable for decades and has weathered hardships such as, the September 11 terrorist attacks, and the 2008 2009 recession. While making my decision to retain our investment in Southwest Airlines I analyzed Southwest Airlines performance in the U.S airline industry, as well as looked at Southwest s operations, strategy/culture. The advantages to my recommendation of retaining our investment in Southwest Airlines is that our company could see high returns for our customers and shareholders. In addition, our investment in Southwest Airlines could increase in size, which would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abstract Clyde Corrigan, Jr. was born on January 22, 1907, in Galveston, TX. He was born to Clyde Sr., a Civil Engineer and Evelyn Nelson Corrigan, a School Teacher. As a young boy, he moved around until his parents divorced and his mom and siblings moved to California. After the divorce his mother changed his name to Douglas Corrigan so that he would no longer be his father s name sake. In his early teens he and his brothers lived with his father in New York for a time while his mother recuperated from surgeries. Then, in 1922, after his mother s death, he started working a ... While working at the aircraft factory, he soon met a young pilot named Charles Lindbergh, who was looking to buy an airplane that could fly from New York to Paris. Corrigan was lucky enough to be a mechanic who was able to work on the construction of Lindbergh s famous aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis. Lindbergh s celebrated transatlantic flight in May 1927 inspired many young men, and some young women as well, to be pioneers in aviation, but none more than Douglas Corrigan, who later wrote in his autobiography that he considered Lindbergh the greatest man who ever lived ( even greater than Lincoln ). • 4. Hip Hop And The Aesthetics Of Criminalization Analysis Hip hop has been and still is a huge influence on pop culture. It sets the theme, tone and even style for the younger generation and the pop culture side helps you know which artists are in right now and which are not. Hip hop dates back to the 1970s created in the South Bronx but it only really became popular in the 1990s. According to the article Hip Hop and the Aesthetics of Criminalization by Andrea Queeley in it states that hip hop was meant to express the Black and Latino experiences of urban poverty but ended up hurting those races because it soon turned into perpetuating racist stereotypes and racial discourse. • 5. Introduction Of A Primary Alcohol Substitution 5. Introduction In this experiment, a primary alcohol was converted into a primary bromoalkane using hydrobromic acid. The reaction was done under reflux and then distilled to obtain a product of higher purity. The degree of the alkyl halide obtained from the experiment was tested with silver nitrate and sodium iodide. An infrared (IR) spectra and the weight of the product were obtained for further analysis. The IR gave information on the present functional groups and product weight was used to calculate the percent yield. 6. Data and Results The product obtained after reflux was a yellow liquid. With the halide tests, the product reacted faster with sodium iodide to form a precipitate than with silver nitrate. This indicates that the degree of the product was primary and that bromine did replace the alcohol group. The IR of the product showed four peaks at 3326.36, 2932.86, 1465.34, and 1028.73. These peaks indicate O H, C H, C H3, and C O bonds, respectively, within the product. 2.032 grams of product were recovered from the reaction. With this, a percent yield of 27.14% was calculated. 7. Discussion and Conclusion Nucleophilic aliphatic substitution is the replacement of one group for another at a saturated, sp3 hybridized carbon atom. This process is often used to interconvert functional groups, such as in the preparation of alkyl halides. In these reactions, nucleophiles attack the carbon atom which the electronegative leaving group breaks its bond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Marshall s Effect on the American Judicial System Essays John Marshall s Effect on the American Judicial System I.Introduction In the early years of the eighteenth Century, the young United States of America were slowly adapting to the union and the way the country was governed. And just like the country, the governmental powers were starting to develop. Since the creation of the Constitution and due to the Connecticut Compromise, there is the Executive, the Legislative and the Judicial Power. But the existence of those powers was not always that naturally. In these crucial times, the Judicial Power had problems controlling the other powers. It was a challenge for the Supreme Court to exercise the powers granted by the new Constitution. Federal Government was not generally appreciated and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that the influence of these families brought Thomas Marshall a desire and eager to educate his son. He was the most influencing person through John Marshall s early years. • 7. My Passion For Music From day to day, I live trying to figure out my purpose of being in this world. No child is born a mistake irrespective of the circumstances. I was born with a talent, although, yet to be discovered. A talent is a symbol of who a person really is. When I was younger, my dad put me through music school hoping that I would learn to play the piano because he wished he did when he was my age. I was not a big fan of playing the piano so I struggled most of the time. My fingers were so stiff and my instructor would request that I moisturize and massage them to make them more flexible. However, the underlying issue was my lack of interest and not my un cooperating fingers. For some, Music is a way to express how they feel. People see through a person with the sound of music. Since I really had no interest in the piano, I decided to take a look at other instruments. My passion for music was decreasing as I could not find an instrument that my hands found pleasure in. A friend of mine said I should try the violin. She described it as a classical instrument that soothes the soul. The first few weeks I learned how to play the violin, I started to get a hang of it but as I played I would always dance. It was weird to my classmates but dancing with the sounds the violin made me so happy. One s interest typically leads one to one s talent eventually, one step at a time. This is evident from a popular quote Talent can t be taught, but it can be awakened by Wallace Stegner. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In accordance with Fowles s theory everything I ve mentioned grabbed our attention and actually takes us to the next frame. This last picture of the ad was introduced by a passage from the second to third frame stating, 9pm to 5am: Obey all the rules, you miss all the fun . This in words is the essence of the ad letting you know that the pictures are a timeline, and it also says to live a little without being direct. Fowles says advertisers will exhibit the models, in their beauty and here we have a beautiful woman in the morning light sun ray making her face glow. The victim is consumed with the need for revenge yet the satisfaction derived from the act of vengeance is never enough to satiate their appetite. However, I was once falsely accused of an act, and when I was able to orchestrate my own revenge I felt my hunger for revenge satisfied. However, Hall s article Revenge: Will Your Feel Better? argues using statistics from studies conducted to understand this phenomenon, and states that revenge will not be able to satisfy the victim. Based on this data, one can infer that Edmond Dantes will not encounter the satisfaction that he so desperately craves as he will not be able to move on. In Revenge: Will You Feel Better? Ozymandias represents the theory of pleasure and pain as he focuses particularly on organized crime and earning a reputation as the smartest man on the planet. Ozymandias knows that to gain the pleasure in what he wants can cause pain but he chose the decision in life in which would give him a higher output of pleasure and a lower output of pain and in the end he is deemed as the smartest man in the world. Another example of ethical theories is how Ozymandius has a utilitarianism approach. He believes that the greatest amount of good done to the greatest amount of people is the right way to go, even if it involves killing or lying and this belief if called utilitarianism. In The Watchmen, Ozymandius displays his own ethical theory which leads to him sort of helping save millions of lives because in the film he tries to make Doctor Manhattan seem like the bad guy. It is defined as preponderant influence or authority, especially of one nation over another (Callahan, 2004, p. 12). In other words, the United States can be seen as the dominate nation over all other nations. This concept was first mentioned in Notes on the Southern Question (1926) by Antonio Gramsci and was defined as a system of class alliance in which a hegemonic class exercised political leadership over subaltern classes by winning them over (Ramos Jr., 1982). • 13. Immanuel Kant And Karl Marx In an effort to understand progress and its goal in humanity, philosophers Immanuel Kant and Karl Marx each present their theories with Kant believing progress is made through the reform brought on by antagonism and social instability in humanity which will ultimately lead to perpetual peace, while Marx argues progress comes in the form of a worker s revolution and the adoption of true communism that will lead to utopia. These German thinkers seek to define the guiding the force beneath humanity s constant state of evolution to understand where it is headed and advise towards a goal they find ideal for humanity. Through an analysis of human characteristics, Immanuel Kant concludes progress is driven by humanity s innate behavior of contempt for one another, which he refers to as antagonism. In Kant s essay On Universal History , his fourth thesis states, The means employed by Nature to bring about the development of all the capacities of men is their antagonism in society, so far as this is, in the end, the cause of a lawful order among men. By this, Kant means that man finds himself in mutual opposition with his peers, but this opposition, as deemed by nature, is the force driving mankind s development. According to Kant, man has a conflicting, natural tendency to both associate and isolate himself from others. In addition to these systems, it is not observed little or no down time. Thus, they enable to servers to use them which are hosted in order to give maximum output of hosting organizations. First of all, in these systems, there tasks are restricted and limited tasks are run simultaneously. Concentration of real time systems are on several applications in order to avoid mistakes and rest of the tasks have to wait. In addition to this drawback, sometimes it is unpredictable and there is not any time restriction in order to show how much the waiting tasks should wait (Liu, Jane W.S., 2000). Second disadvantage is that, a lot of resources are used by real time systems which are not adequate and very expensive. In addition, real time systems are overpriced due to the resources that they need in order to work. Thirdly, the real time systems run several tasks and keep focus on them. This is not a good solution for these systems which use plenty of multi threading due to weak thread priority (Martin, James, 1965). Fourth problem is that, real time systems use different and complex algorithms in order to reach to the target level and desired output. The problem is that this kind of complex algorithms are difficult for designers in order write. So, the designers have to write adequate program for this kind of systems which is not easy. In addition, real time systems have to make clear its interrupt signals and device drivers in order to respond quickly to interrupts. • 15. Shipping Patented By E Commerce Giant Anticipatory shipping is a method of shipping patented by e commerce giant Amazon in December 2013. During the normal shipping process, an e commerce retailer or goods manufacturer receives a customer order specifying the exact address where the product is to be delivered. The company then prepares the package and hands it over to a shipping service provider such as FedEx for delivery. The delay of multiple days between order placement and actual delivery is a major impediment to the wide acceptance of e commerce. It forces e commerce companies to offer incentives like cash on delivery to their customers. Anticipatory shipping is aimed at cutting the delivery time and improving the experience for e commerce users. With this technique, a company will ship products even before an order is placed by a customer. It would specify only a partial address indicating destination geographical area for delivery. While the packages are in transit, the company will employ advanced analytics and forecasting techniques to predict which customers would want to buy the shipped products. Then it could use targeted marketing and sales promotions to induce such customers to buy the products. If a customer indeed places an order, the company would provide exact delivery address to the shipping service provider and the products could be delivered much quicker, even on the same day. • 16. Iago Personality In Othello Description Iago is a twenty eight year old man, who is the ensign of the Othello, the play s protagonist. He is very selfish, hence he manipulates Othello, Roderigo, and Cassio. Throughout the play, characters have described Iago as an honest and trustworthy man, while not knowing the real him. Personality Traits Iago is jealous, dishonest, duplicitous, manipulative, and evil. His jealousy is shown when he is furious of Cassio becoming the military lieutenant, instead of him. His dishonesty can be seen when Iago continuously lies to Othello about his wife cheating on him. His duplicity is revealed when Iago praises Othello in front of him, but badmouths him when around other characters. He is manipulative, as he uses Roderigo s thirst for Desdemona to do his dirty work: fighting Cassio. His evil nature is portrayed when he ruins the life of Othello, through convincing him to kill his wife, Desdemona. Quotes Iago s essence is his deceptiveness. This is shown when Iago reveals his personal qualities, and through the death of Roderigo. Firstly, when Roderigo questions Iago about why he is loyal to Othello, Iago reveals his true self. Iago states, In following him [Othello], I follow but myself. [...] But I will wear my heart upon my sleeve [f]or daws to peck at. I am not what I am (I.i.60 67). • 17. Happiness And Happiness In The Art Of Happiness You should never stress about being happy, happiness is in everyone deep in down we just have to do certain things in order to let it shine. According to McMahon in order to be happy there s no need to think about it. McMahan states in paragraph eleven, Those who are happy, he came to believe, who have their minds fixed on some object other than their own happiness; on the happiness of others, on the improvement of mankind, even on some art of pursuit, followed not as means, but as itself an ideal end. McMahon believes you should be a part of something bigger than yourself. This means help out others by doing something you normally wouldn t do something out of the ordinary. Helping others gives you a heart warming feeling, and many can agree on this. Lastly Mill does believe you should spend time with people that mean the most to you like loved ones, a little of our happiness is based on the people we surround ourselves with. McMahon is right about being apart of something bigger than yourself because helping others be happy makes us feel good about ourselves, and more confidence to keep pursuing it. Be yourself and always move forward, happiness doesn t come from being someone you re not. According to berns in the video Ted talk you should always move on if you can t do something, focus on what you can. When people are stuck on something they tend to give up and feel very self conscience best thing to do is walk away from the situation and do what you re best at. We need a positive attitude in order to achieve what we want and to be essentially happy. Sam Berns chose to be happy he chose not to let the little things get in his way of achieving what he wanted, it s all based on you. Yes he could have been sad, because of the horrible disease that stopped him to doing bigger things in life yet he was still smiling and moving forward as always his muato. Some people may say you should spend money on yourselfs and materialistic items to be happy. Every person s desire is to be truly happy, they do believe that money can fit that desire for themselves. • 18. Being A Workaholic In The Censors By Luisa Valenzuela The story The Censors written by Luisa Valenzuela is about a man named Juan climbing up the ladder of his career as a censor to find the letter he sent. However, as the story progresses, Juan became devoted to his work and forgot his original purpose of becoming a censor. Valenzuela wrote, Soon his work became so absorbing that his noble mission blurred in his mind. (Valenzuela, 41). At the end, he saw his career as the priority over his life, and he was killed. From this story, I was inspired to write about being a workaholic, which is defined as a person who compulsively works excessively hard and long hours (oxforddictionaries.com). The issue of being a workaholic is not as simple as it sounds. Being a workaholic doesn t only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Workaholism also affects ones health substantially. In The Censors , Juan was so loyal to his work as a censor that he even gave up his life at the end. Valenzuela wrote, Naturally, he censored [his letter] without regret. And just as naturally, he couldn t stop them from executing him the following morning, another victim of his devotion to his work. (Valenzuela, 413). In this quote, his life symbolized health, thus evidently showing the damage to his health due to workaholism. Workaholism is considered a health destroyer, which might as well turn out to be a life threatening silent killer. Studies shows that long hours of work cause workers to be mentally unhealthy. They become more and more stressed due to work and put themselves under a large amount of pressure. The most petrifying part is that work stress can cause physical health problems. • 19. How Brands Gain Successful Exposure On The Market, And The... 5.1 KNOW THE RULES The main aim of this study was to investigate the ways brands gain successful exposure in the market, and the way they build relationships with consumers. Upon researching, it was found that there are certain brands that do not necessarily follow the current advised procedures for this practice. One of these brands is Apple Inc., and being one of the most cherished brands of all times, it was decided that an investigation on its consumers behaviour would possibly shed light over the research question: Are there exceptions to the current rules in the practice of brand communications and exposure? . To be able to raise the hypothesis of the exception, the current procedures for successful brand exposure and communications, were examined and analysed, and then compared to the survey s results on Apple s consumers opinions. 5.2 SUMMARY OF THE STUDY The review of literature has provided important information on how the 21st century market is shaped and influenced by the digital technologies. It was observed that the direct effect derived from the cultural transformation of the digital ages, has created new ways of receiving information and new forms of communication amongst people. Consequently, it has also altered relationships between brands and consumers. After finishing the first nine chapters of A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, detailing the first hand experience of hiking through the Appalachian Trail, a certain passage displays many of the rhetorical strategies Bryson uses to develop his story and tone. In this particular passage, Bryson details the extreme distances he traveled on the trail with his companion, Stephen Katz, and the dangers they encountered due to the severe weather as they preceded with painstaking deliberativeness . Through Bryson s use of simile, imagery, and onomatopoeia he creates a disheartening and ambivalent tone that reflects the struggles and endurance he underwent on the trail while captivating his audience. • 21. Personal Style Of Ee Cummings EE Cummings was well known for his concise, non conforming, innovative works of literature, and it was thought that his great forte [was] the manipulation of traditional forms and attitudes in an original way ( E.E. Cummings ). His work stands out from others, especially against others of his time, and his own personal style is shown in his works not only in the way he uses the form but also in the way he uses words, grammar, punctuation, etc. He essentially made up his own rules on how literature should be written. His poem l(a) displays his unique personal style in a way that it is compacted into a clear, easily understood piece and which remains to impact the reader despite its short length ( E.E. Cummings ). The poem l(a) contains a lot of meaning in a limited amount of words, portrays his rebellion of form and structure in poetry, as well as expresses his desire for literature to be visually appealing. Cummings was efficient with words when writing all of his poems, including l(a) , and even though it is merely a sentence in length, its simplicity truly makes it a form of art. Comprised of only twenty letters, it reads A leaf falls, loneliness , and it is a great example of how pieces of minimalistic literature still have an impact on its readers, regardless of its short length. Comprised of a total of only four words, the overall message of loneliness is still quite clear. The image of a single leaf falling is familiar to many, aside from witnessing it in ... This is because if you refer back to Graph 1.1 for example it is clear that there is a relative and steady increase in the rate of reaction as the concentration of catalase was increased. Although in part A, the results were fairly reliable and they clearly show the average increase in part B, one can see that the results that were obtained during the experiment were outliers of each other. Looking back at the table from part B when the 80% concentration of catalase was placed into the 3% Hydrogen Peroxide + 10% Copper II Sulphate the results of time it took for the filter disk to reach the top seemed to be unreasonable. Failing to change the hydrogen peroxide from part A to a new solution in part B may be an example of human error. An experimental error that may have affected the results obtained during the experiment was the labs failure to mention to mix the two substances, hydrogen peroxide and copper II sulphate in part B. Failure to mention this simple instruction may have led to the outliers in time retrieved in part B for the experiment. In the first trial when the filter timed out at 240 seconds at the bottom of the beaker, it may have been caused by the un dissolved copper II sulphate still at the bottom of the beaker. • 28. Public Policy Concerning Education During Prisons Public policy concerning education in prisons decisively emphasizes punitive programming over rehabilitate or educational programming. In regards to higher education in prisons the persuasive public echo of why should criminals get for free what the rest of us pay for is a falsehood built on the backs of these rulings. I would argue that the education paid for through incarceration entails a greater personal cost of freedoms than a paid tuition could ever represent. I doubt anyone would ever go to prison to obtain a free education. The ever increasing costs of higher education invoke a regime of scarcity that produces anxiety within the working and middle class. Higher education no longer represents automatic future economic security, furthering social fear. I would argue against the elimination of higher education in prisons; research shows that prison education reduces recidivism rates and improves public safety (Chappell). Education behind bars means a greater likelihood of post release employment. Post release employment means stability and independence. Stability and independence mean a lower chance of recidivism. Criminal justice researchers Richard Tewksbury and Kenneth Stengel conclude a more abstract benefit of prison education than just reducing recidivism, Participation in educational programs yields a positive influence on the psychological well being of inmates, reduces rule infractions, and enrolled inmates serve as role models to other inmates ... His independence lead to the fate of others and to his own fate eventually. This trip effects Marlow s morals to do good deeds and know right from wrong. Prior to leaving, Marlow had a good foundation and knew clearly how to distinguish the two. While on his trip the reader can tell that this is becoming harder and harder. Kurtz is seen to do all these wrong deeds, because he is the God to the natives. Yet, the native woman, that was his lover had complete influence over Kurtz. At the end of the story when Marlow is speaking with Kurtz s fiancé, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Memelon Nature Morte, essentially still life, refers to the portrayal of inanimate objects within images. One Artist, recognized for his iconic impressionistic still life work, is Edouard Manet (1832 1883). Manet is revered for being a key instigator in the transition from realism to impressionism; his still life impressionism works were amongst those considered the genesis of the impressionist movement in the late 19th Century. Manet was raised in Paris, to affluent family. Upon failure to make it into the Navy, Manet began to find his love for art and painting. Manet s work The Melon (c.1880), a still life painting of a single watermelon, encapsulates this historical movement of still life paintings. Manet s titular work The Melon s solitary subject matter is a watermelon. The composition of this painting is simple, a trait of Manet s which developed along side his journey into impressionism. Despite being a journey that was heavily criticized, it is the style and nuance of Manet s melon, which sets it apart from traditional still life images. The melon is isolated. It s placed on an innocuous beige support, against a solid black background. However it is through the use of this space around the Melon that Manet is able to utilize the light, which floods the left side of the melon, to create a very soft, fragile, beautiful painting. ... • 40. Define State Consciousness And The Phenomenal Aspect Of... Define state consciousness and the phenomenal aspect of conscious (When we say a mental state is state conscious we mean to identify not only that there is a relational property that we attribute to that mental state, namely, state consciousness, but also that there is something it s like, an affiliated phenomenal character, for the bearer of that state.) MAKE SURE YOU PROPERLY TIE IN HOW PHENOMENAL ASPECT LINKS IN AND HOW IT LINKS IN WITH STATE CONSCIOUS, that they actually link in there s just two aspects to the one consciousness. Something like this essay will take for granted that the what it is like part of consciousness exists. When a mental state is conscious, we are conscious of being in that state; so the content of our HOT must be, roughly, that one is in that very state (Rosenthal the hypothesis) Firstly, I d like to define, via Rosenthal, the phenomenal aspect that accompanies a state conscious mental state. In some of his work (see Rosenthal, 2004) restricts the definition so that the phenomenal aspect associated with state consciousness is only associated with state conscious sensations. However, he less restrictedly says (Rosenthal, 2011 p 421) that a state s being conscious is a matter of mental appearance of how one s mental life appears to one and that a state is conscious only if one is subjectively aware of oneself as being in that state which does not require for the phenomenal aspect to only be associated with sensations, and may also, as Lurz ... • 41. Discrepancy Between Anaerobic And Aquatic Analysis There is a discrepancy regarding anaerobic and aerobic capacity between different species of marine organisms. Anaerobic metabolism does not need oxygen to transform glucose to pyruvate (Somero, 1980). Type II fibers are found in anaerobic glycolysis. These fibers consist of white muscle that can be used quickly but are also scarce when it comes to prolonged use. White muscle fibers are primarily used in organisms that have short bursts of strong energy (Dickson, 1993). To focus on the white muscle fibers, any red muscle fibers were not allowed in the samples (Somero, 1980). To keep consistency, my group tried to take muscle samples from the same spot on each species because of possible contamination if the muscle was extracted from other areas. ... This is because they are found in deep water. A bottom feeder diet includes other small fish and crustaceans (Chesapeake Bay). Shrimp can tolerate any level of salinity and prefer to live in the bottom of shallow waters (Arnott, Neil, Ansell 1998). They typically feed on small fish and algae. They are also well known for their unique escape mechanism of flipping off the sea floor and diving into the sediment to get away from predators (Arnott, Neil, Ansell 1998). This short duration of spontaneous movement requires lots of white muscle fibers. The objectives of this experiment were to gain the knowledge of how to perform an enzyme assay, compare the LDH activity in three species, and to associate the LDH activity values with the capacity for anaerobic metabolism. My group originally thought that all three of these organisms would have higher LDH levels due to their daily activities. However due to more in depth background information about their behaviors, my group hypothesized that croakers would have the highest LDH activity levels due to their continuous migration between multiple habitats. This constant movement requires a lot of energy. Our results showed that lizardfish had the highest LDH activity values as opposed to our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. An Analysis Of Flannery O Connor The percentage of people who say they believe in God, pray, frequently go to religious services, embrace minimal religious practices or find their faith meaningful has declined over the last 50 years. A growing group of Americans do not believe in God or any organized faith. In fact, unbelief is even fashionable. Religious conviction is perceived as burdensome or an outdated attitude easily discarded. This is the backdrop upon which 20th century American, Southern Gothic writer, Flannery O Connor, wrote her books and short stories in the 1950s and 1960s. She, in her short stories and books of fiction, did not describe beautiful rooms or people living happily ever after; she wrote about the human condition in the American South and the state of religious conviction. She wrote about unbelievers, lukewarm souls, narcissists and the spiritually illiterate. She wrote about racists, white trash, busy bodies and poor, beaten down black folks. She wrote about the unraveling of faith where the default mode for her characters was apathy, smugness, desapir or indifference. She believed the South was haunted by religion but as a group were literally swimming in mediocrity, cynicism and emptiness a rough and tumble nihilism. They might say their faith mattered or attended services, but many were just lying to their neighbors and themselves. To her, they were just checking the box with a faith bordering on tepid and pathetic. She felt, given their current status, they would not know a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

School Based Intervention The purpose study was designed to examine the achievement of first generation immigrant children in high poverty elementary schools who received a school based intervention. The intervention was designed to help schools to identify developmental strength and barriers to learning. In addition, it connected children to community and school supports to align with their strengths and needs. The participants were 667 first generation immigrant children attending 8 high poverty urban elementary schools. The study used a multi method approach with qualitative and quantitative data including multiple methods of measurement. In addition, longitudinal data was conducted as the intervention delivery was carried out over a various amount of years. The authors did not over interpret data discussion. They highlighted the developmental support systems theory that by aligning the child, family, school, and community assets are critical for promoting positive development. The theory was compared to the current study intervention linking a positive correlational data to academic performance, and ELL and English proficiency first generation learners. The study did have internal validity but rules out potential sources of bias; noted as a limitation. The authors addressed other limitations; such as there was no potential sources between group variations (family migration, extent of language isolation, etc.), the inability to precisely measure achievement gains (intervention need for scientific steps to better guide the support to the barriers of learning), the inability to determine how many years is enough support and whether the intervention might produce diminishing effects on achievement once support is withdrawn. This study supports a school practice model and advances the topic for the development of support plans for all socially disadvantaged students by attending to each child s developmental strengths and needs; supporting cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth; and aligning resources for families, schools, and communities in a culturally competent approach. • 45. What Is My Favorite Room Essay MY FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD ROOM Our house was over 100 years old, with long narrow windows and a black lacquered front door, made of solid oak. When my dad stripped the lacquer off the door, it still showed the cut marks made by charcoal or a pencil that served as a guide for the original door maker. Our house was a medium brown colored two story stucco dwelling, nestled between old elm and pine trees that sat atop a hill. In the winter if you stood at the very edge of the street, on your tipee toes, you could see Lake Calhoun at the bottom of the hill. I loved my old house. • 46. Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries. Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player. When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote. A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south (Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Judicial Branch Vs Executive Branch Separations of powers is a principle of the United States government, giving powers and responsibilities that are divided among the legislative branch, executive branch, and judicial branch. Checks and balances are certain powers that each branch of our federal government have to check on each other and make sure one branch isn t doing something against the Constitution. These balances between the branches ensure that no branch becomes too powerful. Preventing this means that all of the branches are equal and balanced and allows a fair federal government for the people. The branch that has the greatest amount of checks over the other branches is the legislative branch. They have the most checks over the other branches for many reasons. One reason is that this branch has the most people in it, combing both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Also, this branch is the most directly elected by the people and has people from every state. So, giving the branch that is the largest and is closest to the people is a good idea. ... On the other hand, the executive branch can also check back on the legislative by vetoing laws that the President thinks are unconstitutional. Furthermore, the President (executive branch), can pardon any person convicted of a federal crime, outrunning and overruling the judicial branch s decision.
