George Patton Leadership Qualities
Jesse O. Roseberry Mrs. Cannon 4th Hour October 21, 2016 Leadership Research Paper Leadership of
General George S. Patton Jr. During WWII, while fighting in France, George S. Patton said to his
troops Keep on advancing... whether we go over, under, or through the enemy (biography.com George

pushed his troops to the farthest extent and then pushed them more because he wanted them to

One thing George Patton was, is a relentless man to his troops and his enemies. His philosophy
towards battle is We shall attack and attack until we are exhausted, and then we shall attack again .
This philosophy, of course, left the men beyond exhausted. In the battle of Normandy, after the
invasion forces broke through the German lines and they had to retreat, Patton and his troops of the

The Multiple Intelligences Theory Developed By Howard Gardner
This research paper will unpack the multiple intelligences theory developed by Howard Gardner.
According to Molly Zhou and David Brown, Howard Gardner s theory of Multiple Intelligences
utilizes aspects of cognitive and developmental psychology, anthropology, and sociology to explain
the human intellect (Zhou Brown, 2015). By touching on the life of Howard Gardner, exploring some
of his achievements, and studying his theory as well as how it relates to the modern day classroom, a
better understanding of what teachers are up against will be reached. Biographical Background of

Howard Gardner s theory challenged that by stating an intelligence encompasses the ability to create
and solve problems, create products or provide services that are valued within a culture or society
(Zhou Brown, 2015). Next, Howard Gardner established a list of eight criteria for identifying what a
true intelligence is. In the past, studies were done on individuals with brain injury, diseases, and
psychological disorders. These studies helped determine what portions of the brain were responsible
for which functions. Howard Gardner listed that a true intelligence will have its function identified in
a specific location in the human brain (McKenzie). Also, unique individuals, like prodigies, show that,
in rare instances, a human being can perform highly developed intelligences (McKenzie). In addition,
there is an identifiable set of procedures and practices which are unique to each true intelligence
(McKenzie). Just as humans have developmental stages in cognitive growth, a true intelligence must
contain stages that individuals can climb that ultimately lead to an expert like level (McKenzie). A true
intelligence must also have its roots in the evolution of humanity (McKenzie). Another criteria; for or
an intelligence to be considered true, it must be able to withstand psychological and

A Universal Message in Mountains Beyond Mountains Essay
A Universal Message in Mountains Beyond Mountains The suffering and misery of the poor and
destitute has long been reported on and documented by writers all over the world. The circumstances
and stories of the less fortunate are accounted by authors who sometimes distance themselves from the
people they write about. However, Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder focuses on the
work of Dr. Paul Farmer, a man who works tirelessly to comfort the sick and dying in the poorest
countries in the world. Instead of being a simple biography about a wonderful man, Kidder weaves his
own message of human rights into the book. Kidder successfully conveys his message that universal

The suffering of a poor man in America is not the same as a poor man in Haiti. A man in America has
more access to hospitals, shelters, and basic needs than a man in Haiti. Kidder s main message lies in
this principle. While progress has been made in medical technology in powerful countries, moral
progress has not developed at the same rate. A man who would agree with Kidder s message of the
universal right of health care is Mahatmas Gandhi. In his speech Economic and Moral Progress
Gandhi says that many people mistake economic progress for moral progress. He points out those
countries have become more industrial as well as technologically advanced but this upgrade has been
at the expense of their obligations to their morality. He cites an example he is very familiar with the
cruel oppression of the British Empire over India. The people were rationed to one meal a day, No one
has ever suggested that grinding pauperism can lead to anything else than moral degradation. Every
human being has a right to live and therefore to find the wherewithal to feed himself and where
necessary to clothe himself (334). Gandhi asserts his belief that there are a basic set of human rights
that all people are born with no matter what country they live in, what their status, or how much
money they earn. In part II of the book Farmer explains some of the circumstances that have been laid

Social Media s Effect On Society
People live in a world today where most communication takes place through a technological mediator.
One of the most common forms of these mediators is social media. According to an article by Patricia
Reaney, 62% of the population of 26 countries, including; the United States of America, Russia,
Japan, Indonesia, and South Africa use social media. That means that more than half of everyone in
some of the biggest countries in the world uses social media. The United States alone has over 300
million people, 62% of that being 186 million people. Anything that is part of the livelihood of that
many people should be looked farther into for any hidden dangers or benefits. How does this much
impersonal conversation affect what people s real world interactions are? How does it change their
mental thought processes? From message boards and private Skype calls to public posts and forums,
how do all of these affect everyone? There is no inherent good or bad to social media s affect on
everyone, it is purely situational and what people themselves make it to be. What exactly is social
media? The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines social media as: Forms of electronic communication
(as Web sites for social networking and micro blogging) through which users create online
communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos). Social
media is a very large family of applications and websites that all accomplish this same goal. It harbors

The Theme Of Wealth In The Lesson By Toni Cade Bambara
The biggest theme I found in The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara was poverty and wealth. Throughout
the story it is clear that Sylvia and the rest of the kids and their families are poor, living in what seems
to be the ghetto. Miss Moore is a young educated black women who tries to show the Sylvia and the
children that they, being part of a disadvantaged group, need to think about the distribution of wealth
in the United States. Sylvia is mostly angry throughout the whole story. Sylvia towards the beginning
and middle of the story doesn t enjoy Miss Moore and her trip ideas. This is due to the fact that it is
summertime and schools out so Sylvia thinks they shouldn t be learning anything. However, once they
arrive at F.A.O. Schwarz her anger

Willa Paskin s Game Of Thrones
Willa Paskin s argument was stating that the Game of Thrones was trying to be something it s not.
Basically not trying to give the audience what they want nor expect, to leave some mystery in the fairy
tale. Though I personally don t watch Game of Thrones, I assume season six to be different because it
gives the audience exactly what the want, there is no twist to this season its just getting right to the
point. Another point is made when the women take over, that something that usually never happens, so
yet Game of Thrones are giving the audience what they want. It is significant because it is a win, lose
situation, the women are in charge now so it gives the female viewers something cheer about. One the

Essay about Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness
The novella Heart of Darkness illustrates readers with three different types of depictions that men had
of women during the late 1800 s; also known as the imperialistic era. These depictions were as
follows; the naive woman, the mistress, and the wealthy widow. The naïve woman was personified by
Kurtz intended. The mistress was personified by the native African woman. The wealthy widow is
personified by Marlow s aunt. This assumption can be made on various levels. The most obvious level
is how Joseph Conrad never gave these characters names. Also when they are mentioned it is very
brief.
Kurtz s intended is the naïve character. She is alone and waiting for Kurtz for as long ... Show more

The small part that she has in this novella she manages to sound like a naïve woman.
The second character that we are introduced to is Kurtz s African mistress. The mistress is a beautiful
woman who seems to evoke some sort of control over the men. Whenever she is mentioned the men
just stand there as if in awe. She never speaks in the novella. During the late 1800 s it was acceptable
for men to have mistress , I believe that is what Conrad tried to show. That s why Kurtz s intended
never questioned why he was taking so long. She probably knew he had a mistress and couldn t really
say anything against it. The mistress managed to gain some type of control over Kurtz, and that is why
he hadn t left yet. Even Marlow was in awe when he saw the beautiful native woman with jewelry on.
Perhaps she was a wealthy woman, and that s why the people respected her.
The last female character that I will examine is Marlow s aunt. She is perhaps a wealthy widow, who
also has nothing better to do with her money. She believes strongly on the topic of imperialism. She
thinks that it helps people progress. She was the one who got Marlow this opportunity. Marlow s aunt
is the combination of both characters. She was naïve and controlling at the same time. Conrad
probably used this character to show readers how older women were in the past.
Its amazing to see how men stereotyped women in the past it hasn t

President Lincoln As A Visionary Leader
Abraham Lincoln
Imagine how the state of the world will be today without the leadership of the United States of
America to police the world. Think about Iraq during Saddam Hussein s regime, Libya during Arafat s
regime and the behaviors like Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Had it not been the vision of
Abraham Lincoln to preserve the Union, there would not have been a strong unified United States
today. President Abraham Lincoln was a visionary leader and an ethical leader when leading the
United States through the Civil War during his Presidency. In this paper we will review how Lincoln
used his leadership traits to win the Civil War to preserve the Union and abolish slavery in America.

He often would walk from his office to the Secretary of War s office to discuss strategies to win the
war. David T. Phillips stated in his book Lincoln on Leadership that, Lincoln spent most of his time
among the troops (p.13). Lincoln rode his horse most of the time to the camp of the Union soldiers and
cheered them up. He also motivated them by letting them know the importance of winning the war.
The Core Lesson under Individual Consideration states that, The leader empathizes with and supports
each follower and keeps channels of communication open [BCEE] (2014a, p.13). We have discussed
Lincoln as Visionary Leader now let s move on to Lincoln as Ethical Leader.
Ethical Leader Abraham Lincoln was an Ethical Leader; he did the right thing, and made ethical
decisions regarding slavery. Lincoln was an honest man, and as a result he earned the nickname
Honest Abe . David Phillips wrote in his book Lincoln on Leadership , Lincoln always did the right
thing or at least he attempted to do so (1992, p.54). Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education
[BCEE] (2014b) defines ethics as what we understand to be good and right behavior . Lincoln did the
right thing and did not associate himself with people he could not trust. He fired his first Secretary of
War, Simon Cameron, for illegally awarding a defense contract and other shady dealings. Lincoln

Kate Chopin Analytical Essay
The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is a short yet complex story, describing Mrs Mallard s feelings.
It focuses on the unfolding emotional state of Mrs Mallard after the news of her husbands death, and
has overflowing symbolism and imagery. It is an impressive literary piece that touches the readers
feelings and mind and allows the reader to have a connection to Mrs Mallard s emotional process.
Although the story is short, it is complete with each word carrying deep sense and meaning. It is
written in the 19th century, a time that had highly restrictive gender roles that forbade women to live
as they saw fit. Mrs Mallard experiences something not everyone during this time has the luck to

In paragraph eight, Chopin begins to use personification as well as imagery. Mrs Mallard young, with
a fair, calm face (158) is sitting in the armchair with a dull stare in her eyes (158) which indicated of
intelligent thought (158). Reading this, the reader can form an idea of what Mrs Mallard looks like,
and we understand that there s something going on in Mrs Mallards head, something changing
everything in her mind. Mrs Mallard is still struggling to figure it out but she felt it, creeping out of
the sky, reaching towards her through the sounds, the scents, the color that filled the air . From this we
understand that she is beginning to realise it, and her soul is beginning to fill with happiness of
freedom, which is in all the sounds, smells and things she sees. For one moment, however, she is
somewhat afraid of feeling happy about her freedom and she was striving to beat it back with her will
(159). This shows that Mrs Mallard is a product of her time, and is striving to feel what is socially
accepted. She realizes that society would determine her thoughts of freedom inappropriate, but she can
t stop herself from feeling that way.
However, she knew that she would weep again when she saw the kind, tender hands folded in death
(159), but it s just a reaction, one that society expects her to have, and one that many have when
dealing with the death of someone they know. Chopin

Naked Lunch Thesis
Statement of Purpose for Admission to XXXXX The first text that repulsed me was Naked Lunch by
William S. Burroughs. As I devoured the novel I felt as if it was devouring me, changing me. I was
transfixed. Many people I have spoken with about the text stopped reading it because the graphic
violence, sexual imagery, and dissonant structure was alienating to the point of hostility, anger, and
disgust. Flipping through its pages felt like an unauthorized act, like I stumbled upon the unsettling
political tirade of a drug addled psychopath. As I closed the novel for the first time, I was repelled and

on the theoretical underpinnings of Foucault and Bataille, and magnify and extend research conducted
by Jonathan Dollimore in Sex, Literature, and Censorship, Peter Stallybrass and Allon White in The

Pure Intuition, By Immanuel Kant
Math, to Kant is synthetic because mathematical knowledge requires is true more than just definition.
All bachelors are unmarried is analytic; the bachelor down the street is untidy is synthetic. This may
seem odd; 1+2 = 3 seems to be analytic, as 2 is the sum of 1 and 1 by definition. Nevertheless this is
illusory, according to Kant, because this is already a solved equation. When we look at an unsolved
equation, we are presented with a problem. Take, for example 1+2 alone. We do not know what the
sum of 1 and 2 are, just that their sum constitutes a number. We then must solve the equation using our
intuition, or capacity to reason to come upon the answer, 3. The answer to the equation is not initially
contained in the equation in question. If it were, then there would be no ... Show more content on

This may seem peculiar at first, as Kant previously defines intuition as sense perception. How, one
may ask, could one perceive without sensation? Kant explains that sensory intuition helps us visualise
physical objects, while pure intuition helps us visualise abstractions this means we are capable of
visualisation objects before their actual experience. Although this may seem peculiar, this, Kant
explains, is because when we intuit something, we only intuit our own perceptions: we cannot
comprehend things in themselves, or what he called in Critique of Pure Reason noumena . Otherwise,
all our intuitions would be empirical, and such pure mathematics would not be possible: we could
simply see things as they really are, and we would not resort to abstracting relationships between
concepts as we do in mathematics. What we perceive are our own understandings and ideas of objects;
to understand them as they really are is not just impossible, but we could not even comprehend what it

Evolution Chapter 22
Name _______________________ Period _________
Chapter 22: Descent with Modification: A Darwinian View of Life
As you study this chapter, read several paragraphs at a time to catch the flow of ideas and understand
the reasoning that is being described. In some places, the text describes a narrative or story of events
that led to
Darwin s theory of evolution. Therefore, first read the narrative to absorb the big picture and then
return to answer the few questions that accompany this material.
Overview
1.
Define evolution broadly and then give a narrower definition, as discussed in the overview.
Evolution: Descent with modification; the idea that living species are descendants of ancestral species
that were different from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
inheritance of acquired characteristics: This idea states that an organism could pass these
modifications of use and disuse to its offspring.
8.
Although Lamarck s mechanism of evolution does not explain the changes in species over time, his
thinking has been influential. What is considered to be the great importance of his ideas? Lamarck
recognized that the match of organisms to their environments can be explained by gradual
evolutionary change rather than special creation.
Concept 22.2 Descent with modification by natural selection explains the adaptations of organisms
and the unity and diversity of life
9.
Charles Darwin proposed that the mechanism of evolution is natural selection and that it explains how
adaptations arise. What are adaptations? Give two examples of adaptations.
Adaptations are inherited characteristics of organisms that enhance their survival and reproduction in
specific environments. Possible examples include the mottled coloration of a fawn that allows it to
blend with its environment, or the sharp talons and beaks of birds of prey so well suited for predation.
10.
Explain the process of natural selection.
In the process of natural selection, individuals that have certain inherited traits tend to survive and
reproduce at higher rates than other individuals because of those traits.

Marketing strategy of Samsung mobile phone.
The global communications industry has been changing during the past few years, and quite
dramatically. Wireless communication, as a result, proves to be a hot area for telecom suppliers.
Accordingly, the demand for handset products, from businesses to consumers continues to rise. The
question is how handset manufacturers have fit their global marketing strategies to win widespread
acceptance as competition intensifies. Thus, this analysis highlights Samsung s recent success as a
very typical case in point to the above question. In more focus, the purpose of this analysis is to

Thus, global marketing does suggest that reaching global consumers is a strategically intended
outcome of a hybrid strategic approach. In more details, four main factors included in the above
mentioned approach are product, price, place, and promotion. In other words, when marketing their
products, whether locally or globally, firms need to create a successful mix of:
* the right product
* sold at the right price
* in the right place
* using the most suitable promotion.
1. 1. Product decisions
A product is defined as: Anything that is capable of satisfying customer needs . Then the product is the
central point on which marketing energy must focus. Finding out how to make the product, setting up
the production line, providing the finance and manufacturing the product are not the responsibility of
the only marketing function. However, it is also concerned with what the product means to the
customer. Marketing therefore plays a key role in determining such aspects as:
* the appearance of the product in line with the requirements of the market
* the function of the product products must address the needs of customers as identified through
market research.
Businesses need to regularly develop new products and markets for future growth. A useful way of
looking at growth opportunities is the

A Comparison Of Malcolm X Vs. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Civil Rights movement in the 1960 s birthed the most prominent figures in the battle against
racism in the United States. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. are immortalized as the men who
stood up and spoke out during the most crucial time in US History for African American activism.
Though often brought up in the same vein, the two had complete opposite ideology about how to
reach equality. Their influence created many prominent groups in the 60s against mistreatment of
African Americans, including the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). According to
the name of this group, they were a nonviolent team of young black activists that stemmed from MLK
s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Apparent in their name, they shared the same
peaceful approach as MLK, but over time and as the hardships of the movement began to callous the
young group they shifted towards the by any means necessary approach of Malcolm X. Through the
excerpts in Takin it to the Streets, one can see the stark difference between Malcolm X s more
aggressive approach, MLK s loving approach, and the SNCC shifting its views over time but always
maintaining a steadfast commitment to the cause and a youthful bravado. Martin Luther King Jr. is a
household name. He became a martyr, known for exclusively preaching about love and dreams of
equality. MLK was impassioned and eloquent and palatable enough for white people. He never

Counseling, Psychotherapy, And Psychoeducational Group Essay
Counseling, Psychotherapy, or Psychoeducational Group In considering that a group on aging is
centered on a particular theme, a psychoeducational group would be most appropriate. Corey (2010)
suggests that the elderly may benefit from a psychoeducational structure as groups of this nature not
only provide the opportunity to connect with members within the group, but teach members the skills
they need to learn how to foster relationships and support systems beyond the group. Many older
individuals, especially those within nursing or retirement homes, face isolation and loneliness as they
have been removed from their friends and family primarily due to health reasons. Friends and family
may visit often, but being separated from one s home, community, and family unit, which can take a
toll on an individual s mental and emotional well being. Attending a psychoeducational group on
successful aging might provide people a way to connect with their peers, while providing tools and
coping skills to achieve a sense of meaning outside of the group. Co leader Considerations
For a psychoeducational group on aging, a comfortable and light rapport should exist between the co
leaders (Corey, 2010). This will not only put the members at ease, but will make for a more successful
session for the co leaders as they can bounce the concerns and ideas they may have off of each other
before and after each session. Additionally, it would likely be easier for members to trust and confide

Eating Animals By Eric Schlosser Essay
Today, the food industry has not just altered the American diet, but it has also had a negative effect
within the labor sector as well as the animals meant for consumption and the lack of government
oversight. Eric Schlosser in Fast Food Nation, and Jonathan Foer in Eating Animals, illustrate the
mistreatment of labor workers as well as the animal abuse that goes unseen within the food industry.
Foer gives such examples of employees who work in slaughterhouses giving accounts of what goes on

animals that are processed for consumption.

Role Of The British Empire During The Industrial Revolution
Introduction The people of Great Britain are very proud of the nations history when it comes to
engineering and innovation. The role the British Empire played in the industrial revolution??, the
development of the steam engine?? and rail transport?? were the first few steps that changed the face
of the world (for better or worth) that we live in now. This idea fills people s hearts with pride. But
where this idea is still alive in some parts of the country, there are areas where this attitude is no
longer to be found. The birthplace of the railway has seemed to have fallen behind the rest of the
world. High speed trains that are outdated before they are even built and portion of the public resisting

An Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Desdemona
1. Introduction
I exist in between, now: between being killed and being un dead; between life on earth and life beyond
it; between all time, which has no beginning and no end . . . (Morrison 1.14)
In that timelessness of afterlife, Toni Morrison allows Othello s wife Desdemona to tell the stories that
William Shakespeare did not allow her to tell (Sciolino). Desdemona is a collaboration between writer
Toni Morrison, musician Rokia Traoré and director Peter Sellars. It retells the story of William
Shakespeare s Othello and, thus, serves a prequel and sequel to the tragedy (Carney 1). Toni Morrison
s play examines Desdemona s relationship with her husband Othello as well as with other female
characters, in particular, Desdemona s relationship with her nurse Barbary (Erickson 3 4).
Furthermore, the drama introduces the social conflicts the women come into contact with which are
based on gender and ethnicity. An analysis of Toni Morrison s Desdemona shows the social
construction of the division of the sexes as well as the division of ethnicities. This division is known
as Otherness:
The idea of Otherness relates to the construction of majority and minority identities ... Show more

In fact, man is seen as the universal norm whereas woman is defined and differentiated with reference
to man (ibid.). Thus, man is defined as the One which entails the submission of woman as the Other
(xxiv). This submission, however, is a result of natural condition rather than historical events or social
change (xxiv xxv). Moreover, it is due to the fact that woman do not form an independent unit as they
do not have a past or history of their own which differentiates them from men. Hence, woman is the
Other in a duality in which both elements man and woman are essential, as the division of the sexes is
a biological fact not a historical event

Persuasive Essay On The Future Of The Postal System
The United States Postal Service has been very prominent in everyone s lives, even if most people don
t realize it. Although, over the years many of our needs have changed and email rose to the top as a
new way of sending mail, much of what the USPS had used to its advantage, such as the large amount
of mail that has been sent physically, has been slowly dissipating over the last decade or so. From
2008 to 2009, the mail volume dropped by 30 billion, which is a drastic change compared to the 4 or 5
billion fluctuation between previous years (Source B). As it is evident, the postal system has changed
with our growing need for faster forms of transportation of information subsided by email. The postal
system has been extremely affected by our advances in technology and it is time that we understand
that this process was inevitable, and the USPS needs to be restructured by doing Sunday delivery, and
strategically closing branches to save money and accommodate to the needs of a changing world .
The major point of competition for the USPS would have to be email, and in some cases, other postal
services (Source E). Over the years whenever the postal service was in its prime, it kept much of our
communication constant, whether mail was being sent from person to person, or even from the
government to the citizens of the U.S. (Source F). Many have worried that without permanent record
of things such as letters, bills, and other information sent through postage, we will lose

The Importance Of Communication Skills In The Workplace
Communication skills are important for those big or small. There was once a mouse called Jack. He
went to work every day, collecting cheese and putting it in a shack. One day at work he saw that the
shack could not hold anymore cheese. Jack decided not to communicate his concerns with his co
workers. Eventually, a hole was created in the shack and his workplace lost all their cheese to the
starving cats. If Jack had only communicated his concerns, then maybe he and his co workers could
have prevented the issue. This is why it is important that professionals in corporate businesses, health
organizations, and other industries have good communication skills. According to Alison Doyle, the
ability to communicate effectively with superiors, colleagues, and staff is essential, no matter what
industry you work in . Another article by Mike Kermode stated having good communication skills in
the workplace is all about being able to convey information to people clearly and simply, in a way that
means things are understood and get done . Listening, forming personal relationships, reasoning and
explaining, and speaking honestly and directly are communication skills that professionals deem as
important to ensure their job functions smoothly and successfully. An interview was conducted with
Ms. Pamella Jackson, a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Midwife (RMW), and Mental Health
Nurse (MHN). She perceived listening and forming personal relationships as the most important

Coal Mining As Environmental Health Issue
There is a common bond throughout Kentucky that stretches from western to eastern state lines that
unites many Kentuckians. This common thread is coal mining. Window decals proudly proclaiming
Coal miner s daughter , friend of coal license plates, and yard signs declaring Coal keeps the lights on
are only a fraction of the coal mining propaganda frequently seen throughout my community. There is
an allure to being a coal miner not only because it is a high paying job that does not require a college
degree, but also because being a coal miner evokes a sense of pride within people. However due to the
occupational hazards and coal s impact on the environment, coal mining also poses as a very real
environmental health issue for not only my community in western Kentucky but the entire state as
well. This research paper aims to describe coal mining as environmental health issue, explain the
potential health risks of working in and living near coal mines, identifying regulations and laws
concerning the issue, describe the industry s response to this issue, describe my community s response
to this issue, and identify needs and nursing interventions required for affected aggregates.

holiday tradition. We had not a single inkling of where it was, or how to get there. We found ourselves
at a crosswalk surrounded by congregations of other people. The light suddenly turned white, and
people flooded the street jostling us every which way. Out of sheer desperation, we turned left hoping
to find some help or indicators of where the tree was. We were met with the same row of shops we d

rain kicked up again the torrential downpours discombobulated us even more. I looked to my mom,

doubled back to where we started. My mom pulled out her phone in hopes of searching for directions,
but couldn t unlock it due to the untimely rain. Mother Nature kept berating us as we searched for
shelter. And now we re caught up huddling together in a tiny room, our clothes sopping wet, our spirits
disheartened, and our bodies aching. Eventually, we constructed a route to the Rockefeller Tree that
consisted of three miles of complex intersections and meandering roads. In desperation, I looked to

Social Policy and Drug Research Paper

Social Policy and Drug Research by Daniel Patrick Moynihan
The major idea that the author discussed in this article was how current social policy is aimed at
decreasing the use of illegal substances? The question progresses whether research efforts must stick
to this policy in order to be considered ethical. If research is to be judged in fair terms, what effect
does this have on the selection of research projects to be funded, how the research is done? and how
the findings are treated by the public, as represented by both professionals and the media? All these
questions need to be taken into considerations while looking at this current social policy. The author

this is the central experience of modern society. At one or two removes, most of the ills we suffer are
the consequences of technology. That is to say, the bad results that accompany the good ones good
results which led to the adoption of the technology in the first place.
To date, there are five large and important areas of research that have been either neglected: (1) the
sequence of drugs used and the development of different drug using patterns; (2) the individual, group,
and cultural factors influencing low risk and high risk outcomes among equivalent drug users; (3) the
changing attitudes of both users and nonusers toward psychoactive drug use; (4) the impact of the
media on drug use and drug choice; and (5) the process of socialization as it applies to patterns of drug

how drugs influence individual health and behavior, what use is being made of drug research, and how
its findings influence public policy decisions.

The Philosophy Of Transactional Leadership
The Philosophy of Transactional Leadership
According to Avolio, Bass, and Jung, (1999) transactional leaders motivate to perform by using
positive or negative feedback. Employees work is determined by the reward or punishment that the
leader prescribes to achieve mission accomplishment. The leader s effectiveness is determined by task
completion. Breevaart, Bakker, Hetland, Demerouti, Olsen, and Espevik, (2014) suggest that the
transactional leader is involved in sustaining operational flow. Zhu, Sosik, Riggio, and Yang, (2012)
argue that the transactional leader uses the exchange of rewards to increase performance and is not
concerned with strategic planning, as much as daily operations. Bass and Riggio, (2006) contend that
the transactional leader depends on a contingent reward for production. In this philosophy, a follower
may be satisfied with the reward and will display loyalty and remain committed to accomplish a task.
This commitment will remain as long as the reward stimulates the follower. The transactional leader is
concerned with operations and maintains incentives while the task is getting completed. According to
Breevaart, Bakker, Hetland, Demerouti, Olsen, and Espevik, (2014) the transactional leader will use a
host of incentives to maintain the motivation of the followers. The incentives will remain as long as
the task is complete to the satisfaction of the leader and the goal is reached.

Persuasive Essay On Autonomous Cars
The Autonomous car is coming and there is nothing we can do about it. In a world where everything
has a beginning and an end, technology is always upgrading and advancing every day. The next step in
the automotive world is Autonomous cars. The Autonomous car in the simplest terms are cars that
drive themselves using cameras and sensors to drive just like a human would. Today, instead of a word
its a phrase, the five levels of autonomy. (Martin) At level five the car does not need humans at all and
can drive almost anywhere without the help or the control of a human. When autonomous cars start

The autonomous car is coming without a doubt, the only question is when will it arrive? The Ford

The fear of death is universal. Death is an inescapable personal experience that can never be fully

The Negro Speaks Of Rivers Essay
Slavery has influenced how people of African descent went forth and lived life. In the poem The
Negro Speaks of Rivers , Langston Hughes tells a story of the black man s journey to America while
trying to hold on to his past. Hughes uses imagery and tone to create a picture that illustrated racial
pride and dignity. Phillis Wheatley, On Being Brought from Africa to America describes the positivity
of being an American slave and the perks of Christianity. The major theme that runs throughout these
two poems are how someone views their own race. Though each poem is set around the same time
period, we can see two different effects of slavery and it could change in an person. Wheatley s On
Being Brought from Africa to America has a lot of literary devices within it and reading it out loud
really helps you find them. There is some end rhyme like eye die ; land understand ; and cain train .
Lines 7 and 8 shows a heroic couplet; Remember, Christians, Negros, black as Cain,/ May be refin d,
and join th angelic train. Another big literary device that could not be overlooked is personification. In
the first line of the poem, the speaker personifies mercy . The speaker is using the term mercy in a
biblical notion and in that sense mercy could not have physically picked the speaker up and carry him
or her over to America. In Langston Hughes The Negro speaks of Rivers , the speaker sets a tone
while makes a connect between him and the earth he lived on.

begin acting very emotional, not understanding why. Guy quickly hides the books in the backyard and
is called out to another fire alarm. He was not prepared for it to be his own house. Guy s own wife,
Mildred was the one to report him. Montag burns his own house down along with all of his
possessions alone, at the orders of Chief Beatty. Afterwards the two get into an argument, and after
Beatty continues to harass Montag, Guy flips the switch and burns the chief to the ground. Instantly,
an attack hound named The Mechanical Hound is alerted to track down Montag. After the hound stabs
Guy once with a procaine needle, it is incinerated. Montag quickly gathers his books

Blue Dress By Walter Mosby
Devil in A Blue Dress was originally a novel written by Walter Mosby in 1990 and then made into a
film in 1995. To begin this reflection I will start with my summary of the movie, and then comment on
the actors and how they compared to the books characters, then discuss how the movie compared to
the book, and lastly discuss how the movie fits into the noir/neo noir film category. The film s opening
credits feature a catchy jazz song and artwork from the era that helps set the setup the movie as to
when and where it is taking place
It then begins with a view of easy Rawlings sitting in his friend Joppy s bar. Easy is reading a paper in
hopes of finding a job, after he was unjustly fired from his job. An elegant dressed white man named
Dewitt Albright then enters the bar and has a conversation with Joppy, who then calls Easy over to the
pair. Mr. Albright is looking for someone to help him locate a missing woman named Daphne Monet.
Easy is not really an investigator but is desperate for many to pay his mortgage so he accepts the offer.
Easy learns that Daphne is said to be hiding out somewhere in the black community and frequents a
juke joint. Easy heads to this place she frequents and finds his friend Odell and a former co worker
Dupree and his girlfriend Coretta. After a long night of drinking Easy helps take Dupree home with
Coretta. After putting Dupree to bed, Easy and Coretta have some relations with each other and have a
talk about Daphne and this is when Easy learns

Time In Slaughterhouse-Five
Kurt Vonnegut s American classic, Slaughterhouse Five, is a novel that embodies various themes and
messages, such as time, war, and death. While the latter are quite significant to the novel, the former,
time, is a profound element in Vonnegut s novel, as it dictates its progression of events and is also
supported by several other literary elements within Billy Pilgrim s tale. Time is a topic discussed at
length in Slaughterhouse Five by Vonnegut in his narration and Billy in his references to the
Tralfamadorians. Time is woven throughout the novel and has a great bearing on Billy Pilgrim and
how he views his life. Vonnegut utilized various forms of structure and style in Slaughterhouse Five
which paralleled the novel s account of time. Literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vonnegut expertly used tone, diction, and sentence structure to convey that time is repetitive and
injurious. He used intricate chronology and the development of Billy Pilgrim to show that time is
unforgiving and treacherous. But despite this, Billy s tale ends on a positive note. The war is over; he
can go home. The sky is still blue and the birds are singing once more. It can be seen that not only for
Billy, but for the human race, time is ticking and being wasted, but people can still cherish the
moments they have. They can still revel in the glory of a blue cape and boots of silver. It is because
humans are fickle. Time is fickle. Time is not a constraint to anyone as much as it is an encouragement
to spend it

The Azusa Street Revival
Allan Anderson, a reader at the Graduate Institute for Theology and Religion, states that
Pentecostalism received global recognition during the events at Azusa Street in spite of having various
origins in the beginning of the twentieth century (Anderson 180). The intense apocalyptic eschatology
of the Pentecostals thus created a self appraisal that their movement was something profoundly
original and which had few precedents in Christian history, suggests Steven Hunt, author of A History
of the Charismatic Movement in Britain and the United States of America (117). Joe Creech, a
doctoral candidate in history at the University of Notre Dame, suggests that Pentecostals believed
Azusa was the place where God would reestablish the church. He ... Show more content on

Gorman reports that manifestation of the Holy Spirit took precedence over the rules of dogma. He
explains that the unorthodox church practices, which allowed any person to speak behind a pulpit,
created discord among the congregation (Gorman 520). Ben Pugh, a Lecturer in Theology at Cliff
College, UK, describes how William Seymour implemented a third aspect of the evidence of speaking
in tongues to the Wesleyan belief system (Pugh 17). Hegertun explains that rather than attacking the
dogmatic positions of others the evidence of the Holy Spirit and charismatic gifting served as
justification of their theology (37 38). Pugh states that the trifold aspect of theology is implemented to
date by the Holiness Pentecostals with the majority being African American (17). He also reveals that
by 1910, the end result would be a metamorphosis of American Pentecostals to the trifold model of
sanctification (Pugh 17). Hunt explains that receiving the gift of utterance, according to Synan, is the
driving force behind Pentecostalism (117). Dodson proposes that the evidence of the gifts of the Holy
Spirit happening at the revival demonstrated God s authority and existence (52). Hunt reports there
were numerous personal accounts of healings, deliverance, and miracles (116). He reveals that by
1914, all churches implemented the

Washington Dc Vs Riyadh Research Paper
Have you ever thought about the similarities and differences between to different cities from two
different countries? Some countries are similar in many traditions. Also, you can find major tradition
differences between two different countries. A Capital is usually the biggest city in a country. I have
been to Washington D.C and Al Riyadh, they both are cities from two different countries which are the
United States and Saudi Arabia. we can compare and contrast both cities in terms of food, weather,
and festivals.
To begin with the similarity, DC and Al Riyadh are both big capital cities because as I mentioned
above usually a capital is the big city in the country. You can find in the both cities the government
and high authority branches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Thanks Giving is a day that all families gather together and eat turkey for dinner, Black
Friday is a day that comes after thanksgiving in U.S and this day you can find huge discounts that the
stores provide for the costumers, and the New Year s eve is the first day of the year all the countries
have a vacation on this day and most of the people celebrate with their friends family and enjoy
watching fireworks. In Riyadh there are only two special festivals, Eid Al Fitter which comes after
Ramadan all Muslims celebrate this special holiday because it is in their religion, the wear new clothes
and go to the mosque to pray in the morning and after that they visit their friends and families and go
back home to wait for an guests to come. Eid Al Adha, is the second special holiday and it comes in
the 10th day of Eid Al Haj and we sacrifice a sheep and volunteer to poor people meat.
To sum up, each capital has similar and different traditions. There is a huge difference between these
two capitals D.C and Al Riyadh more than the similarities. However, capital cities have a prominent
place in the countries. I have been to both capitals and I think D.C has most spectacular places, and
incredible nature. Finally, there is many places to visit and have many activities to

Next, Howard Gardner established a list of eight criteria for identifying what a true intelligence is. In the past, studies were done on individuals with brain injury, diseases, and psychological disorders. These studies helped determine what portions of the brain were responsible for which functions. Howard Gardner listed that a true intelligence will have its function identified in a specific location in the human brain (McKenzie). Also, unique individuals, like prodigies, show that, in rare instances, a human being can perform highly developed intelligences (McKenzie). In addition, there is an identifiable set of procedures and practices which are unique to each true intelligence (McKenzie). Just as humans have developmental stages in cognitive growth, a true intelligence must contain stages that individuals can climb that ultimately lead to an expert like level (McKenzie). A Universal Message in Mountains Beyond Mountains Essay A Universal Message in Mountains Beyond Mountains The suffering and misery of the poor and destitute has long been reported on and documented by writers all over the world. The circumstances and stories of the less fortunate are accounted by authors who sometimes distance themselves from the people they write about. However, Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder focuses on the work of Dr. Paul Farmer, a man who works tirelessly to comfort the sick and dying in the poorest countries in the world. Instead of being a simple biography about a wonderful man, Kidder weaves his own message of human rights into the book. The suffering of a poor man in America is not the same as a poor man in Haiti. A man in America has more access to hospitals, shelters, and basic needs than a man in Haiti. Kidder s main message lies in this principle. While progress has been made in medical technology in powerful countries, moral progress has not developed at the same rate. A man who would agree with Kidder s message of the universal right of health care is Mahatmas Gandhi. In his speech Economic and Moral Progress Gandhi says that many people mistake economic progress for moral progress. He points out those countries have become more industrial as well as technologically advanced but this upgrade has been at the expense of their obligations to their morality. He cites an example he is very familiar with the cruel oppression of the British Empire over India. The people were rationed to one meal a day, No one has ever suggested that grinding pauperism can lead to anything else than moral degradation. Every human being has a right to live and therefore to find the wherewithal to feed himself and where necessary to clothe himself (334). One of the most common forms of these mediators is social media. According to an article by Patricia Reaney, 62% of the population of 26 countries, including; the United States of America, Russia, Japan, Indonesia, and South Africa use social media. That means that more than half of everyone in some of the biggest countries in the world uses social media. The United States alone has over 300 million people, 62% of that being 186 million people. Anything that is part of the livelihood of that many people should be looked farther into for any hidden dangers or benefits. How does this much impersonal conversation affect what people s real world interactions are? How does it change their mental thought processes? From message boards and private Skype calls to public posts and forums, how do all of these affect everyone? There is no inherent good or bad to social media s affect on everyone, it is purely situational and what people themselves make it to be. What exactly is social media? The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines social media as: Forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and micro blogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos). Essay about Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness The novella Heart of Darkness illustrates readers with three different types of depictions that men had of women during the late 1800 s; also known as the imperialistic era. These depictions were as follows; the naive woman, the mistress, and the wealthy widow. The naïve woman was personified by Kurtz intended. The mistress was personified by the native African woman. The wealthy widow is personified by Marlow s aunt. This assumption can be made on various levels. The most obvious level is how Joseph Conrad never gave these characters names. During the late 1800 s it was acceptable for men to have mistress , I believe that is what Conrad tried to show. That s why Kurtz s intended never questioned why he was taking so long. She probably knew he had a mistress and couldn t really say anything against it. The mistress managed to gain some type of control over Kurtz, and that is why he hadn t left yet. Even Marlow was in awe when he saw the beautiful native woman with jewelry on. Perhaps she was a wealthy woman, and that s why the people respected her. The last female character that I will examine is Marlow s aunt. She is perhaps a wealthy widow, who also has nothing better to do with her money. She believes strongly on the topic of imperialism. She thinks that it helps people progress. She was the one who got Marlow this opportunity. Marlow s aunt is the combination of both characters. She was naïve and controlling at the same time. All bachelors are unmarried is analytic; the bachelor down the street is untidy is synthetic. This may seem odd; 1+2 = 3 seems to be analytic, as 2 is the sum of 1 and 1 by definition. Nevertheless this is illusory, according to Kant, because this is already a solved equation. When we look at an unsolved equation, we are presented with a problem. Take, for example 1+2 alone. We do not know what the sum of 1 and 2 are, just that their sum constitutes a number. We then must solve the equation using our intuition, or capacity to reason to come upon the answer, 3. Although this may seem peculiar, this, Kant explains, is because when we intuit something, we only intuit our own perceptions: we cannot comprehend things in themselves, or what he called in Critique of Pure Reason noumena . Otherwise, all our intuitions would be empirical, and such pure mathematics would not be possible: we could simply see things as they really are, and we would not resort to abstracting relationships between concepts as we do in mathematics. Lamarck recognized that the match of organisms to their environments can be explained by gradual evolutionary change rather than special creation. Concept 22.2 Descent with modification by natural selection explains the adaptations of organisms and the unity and diversity of life 9. Charles Darwin proposed that the mechanism of evolution is natural selection and that it explains how adaptations arise. What are adaptations? Give two examples of adaptations. Adaptations are inherited characteristics of organisms that enhance their survival and reproduction in specific environments. Possible examples include the mottled coloration of a fawn that allows it to blend with its environment, or the sharp talons and beaks of birds of prey so well suited for predation. 10. Many older individuals, especially those within nursing or retirement homes, face isolation and loneliness as they have been removed from their friends and family primarily due to health reasons. Eating Animals By Eric Schlosser Essay Today, the food industry has not just altered the American diet, but it has also had a negative effect within the labor sector as well as the animals meant for consumption and the lack of government oversight. Eric Schlosser in Fast Food Nation, and Jonathan Foer in Eating Animals, illustrate the mistreatment of labor workers as well as the animal abuse that goes unseen within the food industry. Foer gives such examples of employees who work in slaughterhouses giving accounts of what goes on in the kill floors, and stories of employees who have witnessed thousands and thousands of cows going through the slaughter process alive (231). Eating meat does not have to be so inhumane for example, Foer quotes Frank Reese, who does not permit inhumane practices on his ranch that are cruel, and Reese believes that there are other ways of having a sustainable humane animal agriculture instead of the methods of the large corporate meat industry (238). It retells the story of William Shakespeare s Othello and, thus, serves a prequel and sequel to the tragedy (Carney 1). Toni Morrison s play examines Desdemona s relationship with her husband Othello as well as with other female characters, in particular, Desdemona s relationship with her nurse Barbary (Erickson 3 4). Furthermore, the drama introduces the social conflicts the women come into contact with which are based on gender and ethnicity. An analysis of Toni Morrison s Desdemona shows the social construction of the division of the sexes as well as the division of ethnicities. Moreover, it is due to the fact that woman do not form an independent unit as they do not have a past or history of their own which differentiates them from men. • 26. Persuasive Essay On The Future Of The Postal System The United States Postal Service has been very prominent in everyone s lives, even if most people don t realize it. Although, over the years many of our needs have changed and email rose to the top as a new way of sending mail, much of what the USPS had used to its advantage, such as the large amount of mail that has been sent physically, has been slowly dissipating over the last decade or so. From 2008 to 2009, the mail volume dropped by 30 billion, which is a drastic change compared to the 4 or 5 billion fluctuation between previous years (Source B). As it is evident, the postal system has changed with our growing need for faster forms of transportation of information subsided by email. The postal system has been extremely affected by our advances in technology and it is time that we understand that this process was inevitable, and the USPS needs to be restructured by doing Sunday delivery, and strategically closing branches to save money and accommodate to the needs of a changing world . The major point of competition for the USPS would have to be email, and in some cases, other postal services (Source E). Over the years whenever the postal service was in its prime, it kept much of our communication constant, whether mail was being sent from person to person, or even from the government to the citizens of the U.S. (Source F). Many have worried that without permanent record of things such as letters, bills, and other information sent through postage, we will lose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Importance Of Communication Skills In The Workplace Communication skills are important for those big or small. There was once a mouse called Jack. He went to work every day, collecting cheese and putting it in a shack. One day at work he saw that the shack could not hold anymore cheese. Jack decided not to communicate his concerns with his co workers. Eventually, a hole was created in the shack and his workplace lost all their cheese to the starving cats. If Jack had only communicated his concerns, then maybe he and his co workers could have prevented the issue. This is why it is important that professionals in corporate businesses, health organizations, and other industries have good communication skills. According to Alison Doyle, the ability to communicate effectively with superiors, colleagues, and staff is essential, no matter what industry you work in . Another article by Mike Kermode stated having good communication skills in the workplace is all about being able to convey information to people clearly and simply, in a way that means things are understood and get done . Listening, forming personal relationships, reasoning and explaining, and speaking honestly and directly are communication skills that professionals deem as important to ensure their job functions smoothly and successfully. The Philosophy Of Transactional Leadership The Philosophy of Transactional Leadership According to Avolio, Bass, and Jung, (1999) transactional leaders motivate to perform by using positive or negative feedback. Employees work is determined by the reward or punishment that the leader prescribes to achieve mission accomplishment. The leader s effectiveness is determined by task completion. Breevaart, Bakker, Hetland, Demerouti, Olsen, and Espevik, (2014) suggest that the transactional leader is involved in sustaining operational flow. Zhu, Sosik, Riggio, and Yang, (2012) argue that the transactional leader uses the exchange of rewards to increase performance and is not concerned with strategic planning, as much as daily operations. Bass and Riggio, (2006) contend that the transactional leader depends on a contingent reward for production. In this philosophy, a follower may be satisfied with the reward and will display loyalty and remain committed to accomplish a task. This commitment will remain as long as the reward stimulates the follower. The transactional leader is concerned with operations and maintains incentives while the task is getting completed. In the poem The Negro Speaks of Rivers , Langston Hughes tells a story of the black man s journey to America while trying to hold on to his past. Phillis Wheatley, On Being Brought from Africa to America describes the positivity of being an American slave and the perks of Christianity. The major theme that runs throughout these two poems are how someone views their own race.
