Essay On Political Campaigns
The Ever Changing Nature of Political Campaigns Noam Chomsky once said, That s the whole
point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody s going to be against, and
everybody s going to be for. Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn t mean anything.
Wednesday morning, the chilly November air stung my face as I walked slowly towards my car
door. To me, it seemed that everything had changed. News of the election results mumbled
quietly on the radio as I drove past signs all with the bold words, Make America Great Again. The
presidential campaigns of 2016 year seemed so odd to my generation because it seemed that in
modern times, campaigns had not been as unpleasant; however, before 2016, my age group had only

Beyond these essentials, I believe it is clear our federal government is overgrown and
overweight. Not only did Reagan promise of rejuvenation of the American domestic economy,
but also advocated for stronger relations with allies to consolidate our spot in the international
spotlight. With that being said, the would be fortieth president promoted a North American
Accord for strengthening North American links while urging an end to discrimination for
women in particular. Overall, Reagan s 1980 campaign rhetoric employed an ambiguous,
uplifting approach that urged an encompassing moral reconsideration of American life rather
than specific policies; primarily, Reagan appealed to the American public based upon his image
of the nation and essentially because he did not represent the America Carter was leading the
nation towards. Reagan s opinion on Carter s America can be seen in the quote, I m talking in
human terms and he is hiding behind a dictionary. If he wants a definition, I ll give him one. A
recession is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you lose yours. A recovery is
when Jimmy Carter loses his. While the feel good patriotism of the Reagan era was coming to a
close, the composition of forty s positive campaign during a nation s era of suffering was now
solidified as a potential method of vanquishing the component. The next monumental campaign
strategy change since the

Nat King Cole s Vocal Style
Today, 66 years after the peak of his career, Nat King Cole remains to be a household name. Most
anyone you ask will recognize his iconic baritone vocals. Although he is best known for his
vocal style, Cole was also an extremely talented piano player. Along with his elegant presence,
Cole was able to break the strong barriers of racism in the 1960s, leaving a legacy for artists
behind him. Cole was raised in an extremely religious household outside of Chicago. His mother
was the choir director of the church, and his father a Pastor. Cole began learning pianoaround age
four, which would lead to him dropping out of school at 15 to pursue a career in music. Cole s
first band was called the Royal Dukes. In 1936, he left home at age 17 to perform with the
national tour of Shuffle Along. Cole s piano technique was greatly influenced by Earl Hines. Cole
himself once said that he owed everything to that man ( Nat King ColeJazzPianist ).
Over the years Cole developed his own piano style, he became known for its syncopated left
hand, and his ability to quickly move from octave to octave. Cole also had an ability to play with
a more freedom, as he often played without a drummer. This allowed him to create his own
personal style, known for its modern rhythms ( Nat King Cole: The Pianist ). Cole s stage
presence was said to be extremely strong, facing the audience as he played. In 1937, Cole formed
the King Cole Trio, consisting of himself on the piano, Oscar Moore on the

The Church during the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages were a time that revolved around Christianity and converting or killing off all
those who were not Christian. As a result, strict laws were put in place that prohibited the practices
that weren t Christian. This also meant anything that was pagan was prohibited and punishable by
death. There were many practices that would be considered pagan, but the main ones of concern
were the things the Church did not approve. Of the things the Church did not approve magic, like
witchcraft, and heresy were two of the main things that were forbidden by both state and Church
law. The main reason the Church wanted to block off magic practices was to stay in power (or
keep its power). This is supported by the following: the influence of the Church on the kings
resulted in the passing of civil laws against magic; the Inquisition making sure people did not
engage in magical practices; the Church leaders downplaying witchcraft; and the persecution of the
Knights Templarand followers of John Wycliffe (who led the movement against papal authority and
the clergy).
Magic originated from pagan roots in the Ancient period when Christianity did not exist. It did not
involve devils or demons, as the Church branded it later on and is often portrayed currently.
Witchcraft originally was just a form of folk magic that would be practiced as a normal routine,
like a prayer, or used for good luck. People made charms and potions to help them do something in
their lives. Whether it is for

Anthropology Is A Study Of Humankind
Anthropology is a study of humankind in all places at all times as one may say it is an observer
of human mind. This essay will critically discuss the following keys. Firstly, it will start by defining
the term holistic than it will critically discuss the statement which says why anthropology has been
describe as holistic study of humankind. Secondly, it will concisely discuss four subfields which are
linguistic anthropology, socio cultural anthropology, physical or biological anthropology, and
archaeological anthropology by linking them with the above statement explaining their role in
making the discipline holistic. Lastly, it will conclude by refreezing the important aspects that this
essay has captured in the discussion.

Firstly, historical linguistics deals with the arrival of language and how languages have altered
and diverged overtime (Nzozo, 2013). Secondly, descriptive linguistic studies the sounds (phones)
sound systems, grammar, syntax, and the meaning that are attached to words in specific
languages (Nzozo, 2013). One might also describe it as an analytic and descriptive branch of how
language was used in the past by a collective of people. Thirdly, ethno linguistic inspects the
relationship between culture and language and how the two interact and influence each other
(Nzozo, 2013). In addition, one could say it is the way different ethnic groups view the world and
it is the mixture of ethnology and linguistics. Lastly, Sociolinguistics search relationships between

The Halo Effect
For our action research project, we studied the Halo effect and how the Halo effect decreasing with
age. Our hypothesis for this experiment was: As we age, the influence our first impressions of
someone have on our future impressions decreases.
The method of research we chose was; experiment.
Before we could conduct this experiment we wrote a story in which the protagonist and antagonists
roles were switched around. Meaning, that the perceived protagonist was actually the antagonist
and vise versa. After writing the story we came up with seven questions which corresponded with
the above story. These questions ranged from, who would you want your friend to be? , to what
did you learn from our experiment? . The purpose of these questions was ... Show more content on

We were surprised to see how well the grade 3 students paid attention to our story and cooperated
with us as we went through the questions. As for the grade 6 class, they cooperated with as as
best they could, with the exception of the lack of interest in the story, which was mentioned
previously. As far as our method of research goes, it worked out perfectly. If we had done any
other method it might not have worked out as well. For example, a survey would not have been
as accurate as we were aiming for. By doing an experimental project we were able to get the fairly
honest answers from the students. This is mainly because they did not know what we were
experimenting and thus could not alter their answer to meet our demands.
After our experiment was conducted we analysed the data. This data showed us that: 67% of the
grade 3 students continued to believe that tyrone was the protagonist, while only 21% of the
grade 6 students believed tyrone was the protagonist. This is a 46% difference between the
grades. Looking at this data we can see that as our age increases, our opinions of a person being
influenced by our first impression decreases. Or in other words, the Halo effect reduces. These
results can be seen in the following

18th Century Roman Clothing
1.In the realm of fashion, the attire one wears can broadcast a statement, whether of their political
view or general lifestyle. Consequently, throughout history groups in our society are often
associated with a typical style of clothing. For instance, in 18th century France the sans culottes
(translated to those without britches ) were the unruly lower class that would wear, long
trousers...[and] special caps, the same as those worn in ancient Rome by free slaves. (pg. 81) This
is indicative toward their ideals of a well off government as well as the prospect of liberty.
Moreover, they would refuse to sport the knee breeches worn by the wealthy, and was a method of
identification, with this distinctive difference between them and the bourgeoisie.

The Bolshevik Tactics that Allowed the October Revolution
Assess the view that it was mainly the tactics of the Bolshevik leadership that made possible the
October Revolution.
INTRO:
It was undoubtedly the Bolshevik leadership that made possible the revolution. It was the excellent
combination of Trotsky s rhetoric, rallying and inspiring personality, Lenin s astute ability to judge
the political mien and the whole party s force and power within the country that led to superb tactics
that would eventually make possible the October Revolution.
Most modern historians agree that the peasants, workers and soldiers played a major part in the
revolution and therefore it was the job of the Bolsheviks to capture this power and manipulate and
use it for their own ends. This was made much easier as a result of Trotsky s excellent rhetoric and
Victor Serge, in Memoirs of a Revolutionary (1945), recalled that Trotsky was all tension and
energy [...] an orator of unique quality [whose voice] always infused with a truly spontaneous
passion. He outshone Lenin through his great oratorical talent, through his organising ability, first
with the army, then on the railways, and by his brilliant gifts as a theoretician. Naturally, as a
Bolshevik it was easier for Serge to agree with Trotsky and therefore, find his words inspiring and
interesting. However, to make special note of his rhetoric suggests an unusually good quality to his
work and this is further demonstrated by the number of people he managed to rally around his
cause. Wood writes

Comparing Ramayana And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Ramayana and The Epic of Gilgamesh The different cultures of Indian and European, can be similar
in literature. In Valmiki s Ramayana , that was written in 550 B.C.E. and The Epic of Gilgamesh ,

Functions Of Immune Defense For The Elimination Of Pathogens
Yahya Bello
Chemokine receptor CXCR3 mediates gene transcription
Introduction
The invasion of microorganisms constantly threatened many organisms and it has evolved systems
of immune defense for the elimination of pathogens in the body (Shizuo Akira1, 2006). Innate and
adaptive immunity are two branches that are comprised in the immune system (Shizuo Akira1,
2006). The innate immune system is the first line of the defense against pathogens and it is
mediated by phagocytes, which includes macrophages and dendritic cells (DC). Adaptive immunity
involved in the elimination of pathogens in the late phase of infection as well as the generation of
immunological memory (Shizuo Akira1, 2006). This type of immunity is characterized by
specificity and develops by clonal selection from a vast range of lymphocytes bearing antigen
specific receptors that are produced through a mechanism that is generally known as gene
rearrangement. The innate immune response is not entirely specific, but it was rather able to
discriminate between self and a variety of pathogens (Shizuo Akira1, 2006). The innate immune
system identifies microorganisms through a limited number of germline encoded pattern
recognition receptors (PRRs). This is large varieties of rearranged receptors utilized by the adaptive
system. PRRs identify microbial components known as pathogen associated molecular patterns
(PAMPs) and they are important for the survival of the microorganism and are therefore difficult for

Theme Of Water In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
Written Task 2 The Symbol of Water within Samuel Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Romantic literature writers commonly input elements of nature within their writing to express their
opinions. Samuel Taylor Coleridge includes the most abundant form of nature, water, within The
Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Water, in its various forms, symbolizes the power and force of
nature in both the natural and spiritual world. Water in the form of ice represents imprisonment
and the harsh acts that nature imposes as a punishment. The Mariner the main character of the
ballad says that the ice was all between. / The ice was here, the ice was there, / the ice was all
around , essentially imprisoning him within it (58 60). Repeating the word... Show more content on

While surrounded on the ship, there is water, water, everywhere. / Nor any drop to drink for the
mariner and his crew because the ocean is all made of salt water (121 122). Nature torments the
crew by not letting them have any fresh water as punishment for their actions, and the irony of
the drought is how there is water everywhere but they still are in a drought, constantly being
teased by nature; also, in attempts to describe the degree of irony, water is repeated twice
highlighting the access of water that is unavailable. The water is also described as like a witch s
oils which Burnt green, and blue, and white (129 130). Water is compared by a simile to witch s
oils , equating the necessary resource of water to other evil related liquids; this in turn de values the
water that they need to live, and continues the entrapment of the crew as punishment. Nearing the
end of the passage, water still rumbled on, / Still louder and more dread in a never ending torment
of water and imprisonment (547 548). Water continuously represents the harsh punishments of
nature, specifically eliciting fear in the Mariner as words such as dread and rumbled impose fear
and stun the Mariner, during the falling action of the ballad. Nature barrages the Mariner with
punishment using irony and imprisonment through the element of water excessively. Samuel

Pet Abandonment In The Dog
A boiling, muggy, day where even bacon fries on the sidewalk. You look out your window, and
see a bird, a sneaker, and, a puppy? But, this is not your average spotless, chubby puppy. This
puppy is skinny, and dirty, barely able to lift its front small paws, on the scorching sidewalk. This
puppy is abandoned. Next you see a car, a beautiful shimmering white, the sun s rays bouncing off
the car, blind your eyes just as a girl jumps out. She walks over to the dogslowly, then gently she
leads him into the back of their van and they are gone. Who was that girl you wonder. Why was
that dog just roaming on the streets? Why would anyone just abandon their poor pup? What can I

The Success Of Michael Vick
Another reason Michael Vick rebuilt his image after the dog fighting scandal of 2007 was that he
helped develop the Animal Fighting Speculation Prohibition Act. One way he did that was
helping craft the future to prevent dog fighting. Once Vick and a few others came up with the
idea, they brought it to Wayne Pacelle, the president of the Humane Society. We saw a great
opportunity for me to come to Capitol Hill and draw attention to some of the inadequate animal
welfare laws (Vick). Vick was eight years old when he saw his first dog fight. Back then, police
would come break up the fights, but no one would be arrested. Vick wanted to change that.

because he was a convicted felon ( Protester Again ). Vick new this and used it as fuel to work as
hard as he could on and off the field to prove those people wrong. Vick wanted people to know
that he was not only going to talk the talk, but he was going to walk the walk as well (Vick). One
night, after Vick had a meeting with James Dubose, who was producing a documentary on him,
a reporter/sports writer followed him onto the elevator. He asked Vick what he ate, if he had any

(Vick). Vick was disturbed by this, because it meant that some people hated him so much that
they would go that far out of their way just to get rid of him. Andy Reid, the Eagles coach at the
time, took particular interest in Vick s recovery because he had two sons imprisoned in 2007 for
drug abuse. He knew what it was like seeing all those men in prison throwing their lives away.

Anne Moody s Influence On A Plantation
Anne Moody grew up in the south as a sharecropper on a plantation in the postwar south that still
had Jim Crow controlling what the black population was able to do and what they couldn t do.
The Moody family was poor and was trying to make a living working for a white farmer. They
and the other black plantation workers lived in a tiny two bed shack without electricity and
plumbing, while the Carter s house had both. Anne s childhood was very difficult when her
father decided to leave the family and have an affair with another black women. After this

she got to high school, while others were extreme racists and accused her and her brother of doing
things that they didn t do. As time went on Anne s mother meets Raymond Davis and start a

Essay on The Themes of Arrogance, Greed, and Materialism...
The Themes of Arrogance, Greed, and Materialism in The Bet
In Anton Chekhov s The Bet two men, one a banker and the other a lawyer, begin the story arguing
about whether or not capital punishment is fair. The banker is in favor of capital punishment while
the lawyer contends that if offered the chance he d take life in prison. The banker bets the lawyer
two million rubles that he couldn t survive in prison for fifteen years. The lawyer agrees to
remain in the banker s prison for fifteen years, and if the lawyer lasts those fifteen years he is to
receive the two million rubles. Thus, the stage is set for this short, but powerful commentary on
society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greed is another theme that occurs quite frequently in The Bet. Not only did the lawyer want to
prove that he could survive fifteen years in prison, he also stood to gain two million rubles for his
efforts. The lawyer did not think about volunteering to stay in prison for any amount of time until
the banker offered a cash prize for doing so. The lawyer s motivation was evidently the love of
money. In the case of the banker, greed almost drives him to murder. When the fourteenth year
nears an end and the lawyer has remained in prison, the banker realizes that he s going to have to
part with two million rubles, which would be crippling to him financially. Instead of paying the
money, the baker decides to try to murder the lawyer to get out of paying.
Materialism is probably the major theme found in The Bet. First of all, the whole reason the
lawyer got involved in the bet to begin with is his desire to be rich. He was willing to give away
fifteen years of his life in order to achieve the status he thought would make him

Laparoscopic Distal Pancreatectomy
Recently, laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP) has emerged as choice of surgical procedure
for benign or low grade malignant tumor of the pancreas with an advantage of less postoperative
pain and early recovery after surgery [1, 2]. Traditionally, spleen was removed during LDP because
of surgical difficulty and its close relationship with pancreatic tail. However, splenectomy combined
with resection of other abdominal organs was found to be associated with high postoperative
morbidity like overwhelming post splenectomy infection (OPSI), subphrenic abscess formation,
hypercoagulability and even increase risk of cancer[3, 17, 18]. Thus, preservation of spleen during
LDP is highly recommended. The Laparoscopic spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy... Show

The surgeon was accustomed to use superior anterior approach [10], because the splenic artery is
relatively fixed, and it is easy to control bleeding after the separation and isolation. However, for
the obese patients and the inflamed pancreas, there is risk of splenic artery injury due to
obscurity between spleen artery and celiac trunk, or sometimes during anatomical variations of
splenic artery. Moreover, some surgeons uses lateral approach [11], where dissection of the
pancreas is commenced from the pancreatic tail and medially toward the pancreatic head. This
approach does not expose the superior mesenteric vein. For the tumor near the tail of the
pancreas, the free length of the splenic vessels is relatively short. However, we routinely carry
dissection from medial to lateral in respect to vascular anatomy, for two reasons: (1) In obese
patients, demarcation between pancreatic tail and splenic hilar is unclear due to excess fat (2)
splenic hilar region may have anatomical variations of splenic vessels and its branches, and thus
may easily lead to injury of the vessels, leading to operation difficulty or further failure to preserve

To make matters even more difficult, every sailor who came to my department was brand new

every emotion that came from being a leader. In the beginning I felt stressed, overwhelmed, and
inadequate. I struggled to find a balance of meeting my squadron s demands while still ensuring

Case Analysis Of Colgate Luminous White
Sld9: In 2015 we measured different brands from 2016, so we cannot make a comparison because
the inclusion of new brands for AE makes the distribution of this to affect the percentages of the
remaining brands, making them not comparable.
Sld11: Luminous White and Oral B have similar levels of consideration; given that both brands are
communicating the benefit of Whitening, Luminous must be very striking in its communication. On
the other hand, although Fluocardent is new in the category, it is not new in the Oral Care segment
(New competitor)

Colgate Luminous White has a trend among Millennials, but its awareness is not so out as to be an

Colgate Luminous White apparently is not seen as an independent brand of Colgate, but as an
additional variety of brand, plus it is seen as an expensive brand and with no difference for the
category.
Sld41:
Colgate Plax and Luminous White have to work on communicating the concept of benefit or
communicating in a more successful way for this to generate more relevance
Colgate Plax has to work into consideration, relevance and closeness, but this has to be achieved by
better communicating the benefit; it has to better manage the benefit regarding germs and bacteria.
Luminous White must better manage its Attitudinal Equity structure; if it focuses its
communication towards Millennials, doing this would be easier (Focus Target to Millennials), in
addition, this variant should work more on brand awareness and then focus on a concept for the

Amusement Park Negligence
Amusement park owners are also required to have policies and practices in place that a reasonable
amusement park would have in order to ensure the safety of guests. Failure to have these policies in
place or to take care in hiring amusement park employees can result in a general negligence lawsuit
against the amusement park. In addition, when amusement park employees are negligent in
operating the rides or ensuring guest safety, their negligenceis considered to be the negligence of the
amusement park itself because of legal rules referred to as vicarious liability or agency laws. Since
the park becomes responsible for the negligence of its employees, people who are injured as a result
of improper ride operation or other related causes may... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All four of these elements have to be shown in order to recover on a negligence claim.
To put it simply, when an amusement park owner or operator fails to maintain the park or its
rides in a safe way, it can be considered in breach of a legal duty owed to customers under
premises liability law. This negligence can make the amusement park owner responsible for any
injuries that result, and the owner may be liable for medical costs, lost salaries, damages for pain
and suffering and emotional distress, and wrongful death damages based on lack of appropriate
warning
To sum it up, the negligence legal theory rests on the notion that an amusement park is
responsible for providing customers with a safe environment. The amusement park is responsible
for the actions of its employees. So if an employee is negligent, injured parties may sue the park
for that employee s actions. The park or its employees may be negligent by affirmatively doing
something or by failing to do something. Examples include: failing to post clear warning signs that,
for example, customers with blood pressure or heart problems should not go on a ride
posting signs that don t adequately warn riders of the risks

Similarities Between As I Lay Dying And For Whom The Bell...
In their very nature, we can see that these two novels vary greatly in purpose, structure, and the
way that they convey their messages. Although this is true, they make up for this when we
examine the motives of the authors and certain ways that the authors convey messages. Ernest
Hemingway and William Faulkner grew up and developed their opinions in far different ways.
Hemingway was heavily affected by his experiences in World War I
and the Spanish Civil War.
These events greatly influenced Hemingway s ideas about war in For Whom the Bell Tolls (5).
Conversely, Faulkner grew up in the deep south of Mississippi, and his life in the south heavily
influenced his writing of As I Lay Dying (4). The two authors and their stories may vary, but these...

One of the most central character relationships in both surrounds hostility between characters
that should otherwise be friends. In As I Lay Dying, this situation is shown through the
relationship between Jewel and Darl, and also through the relationship between Anse and Addie.
In For Whom the Bell Tolls, we see a similar relationship between Pablo and Robert Jordan. The
hostility that these character have for one another is rooted in a lack of trust. Addie is hostile to
Anse because she believes that Anse manipulated her into having children, without truly loving
her. Darl is hostile to Jewel because Jewel was Addie s favorite child, and Darl believes that
Jewel was unfairly given love (so he chooses not to trust Jewel). Robert Jordan lacks trust for
Pablo because he believes that Pablo will betray the him and the Republic. This hostility
between characters is also similar in the fact the we do not always know the reasoning or the
outcome of hostility. For the entire first half of the novel, we do not know why Addie acted the
way that she did, and for the same reason, why Darl treated Jewel the way that he did. We will
never know how much Robert Jordan s hostility for Pablo affected the story. Perhaps Robert
Jordan would have gone on to live a happy life had he not disrupted the flow of the group. The
similar way in which hostility between characters is depicted shows a great similarity between
the novels, but we can also see a great contrast in the way love is shown. The love that Maria and
Robert Jordan have in For Whom the Bell Tolls is depicted as very free and open, while Addie
refuses to love anyone but Jewel in her family, because she was betrayed and Anse only said, and
did not show, that he loved her. This contrast might be shown as a difference, but the opposite
appears to be true. The love that Maria and Robert have is really

Health Information Exchange Model
In today s fragmented healthcare system, clinical decisions are made based on the available
information. Unfortunately, the available information is not always complete. Patients have been
using an increasing number of providers and health systems, many of which have no way to
effectively communicate clinical information. This forces healthcare providers to make decisions
based on incomplete information at the cost of outcomes to the patients and dollars to the health
system. It is estimated that the use of health information exchange (HIE) could save $78 billion in
healthcare costs per year (Shortliffe, 2014, p425). A concerted effort to solve this problem began in

California has had a number of failures and has, yet to develop a high quality state HIE. One of
the first failures was the Santa Barbara County Data Exchange (SBCDE). What caused the
failure was a lack of value for participants in the program. The SBCDE began as non profit
organization in 1998. The goal of the organization was to create a single access site for all

When the grant money ran out, it became evident that there was a lack of value to potential

encountered much difficulty with the lack of standards, requiring a great deal of customization to
facilitate each individual system. This resulted in a draining of resources that also contributed to the
projects failure. Through this project failure we learned that successful projects utilize step wise

employer not in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for rescinding a job offer

make reasonable accommodations to disabled employees within the meaning of the ADA.
Complaints under the ADA in relation to disability are one of the top complaints against

Listeria Monocytogenes
Description
Listeria monocytogenes is a gram positive motile facultative anaerobe that inhabits a variety of
environments. Using selective media it can be readily isolated from soil, water, vegetation and
processed products, including ready to eat products designated for human consumption (Graves et
al., 1992). The bacterium was named monocytogenes because one distinguish characteristic of
infection in rabbits, which was the production of monocytosis in blood (Shuin et al., 1982).
L. monocytogenes is phychrophilic, has a temperature for growth of 0В°C to 45В°C (Barbosa et
al., 1994), and enjoys a competitive advantage against other gram positive and gram negative

monocytogenes. Pasteurization effectively inactivates this organism. However, fluid milk that is
contaminated after pasteurization and stored under refrigeration may achieve very high populations
of L. monocytogenes after one week; Furthermore, temperature abuse may enhance the
multiplication of bacterial cells. L. monocytogenes can also be found in cheese because of its
relative hardiness to temperature fluctuations, ability to multiply at refrigeration temperature and
salt tolerance. During manufacturing process, L. monocytogenes is primarily concentrate in the
cheese curd, with only a very small portion of cells appearing in the whey. Then, during ripening
of the cheese, the numbers of cells may increase (Camembert), decrease gradually (Colby or
cheddar), or decrease rapidly (blue cheese) and then stabilize. In addition, cooked and ready to eat
meat and poultry products have been implicated as the source of sporadic and epidemic listeriosis
on several occasions in North America and Europe (Schwartz et al., 1989). L. monocytogenes
attaches strongly to the surface of raw meats and is difficult to remove or inactivate. The
multiplication in meat and poultry depends on the type of meat, pH, and the type of cell
populations of competitive flora (Farber et al., 1999). However, it has been shown that poultry
supports the growth of L. monocytogenes better than other meats. Furthermore, the incidence of L.

Glossolalia Essay
Origin of Glossolalia in Relation to the COGIC Church
Speaking in tongues is an interfaith phenomenon that has roots in the bible, but also has branches in
the environment I was raised in. Growing up in a Church of God in Christ church, which is the
third largest pentecostal denomination in the world, every Sunday morning and Friday night I
would witness people ecstatically break out into tongues after catching the holy spirit. This piqued
my interest in its origin and meaning to the pentecostal church. Glossolalia, also known as speaking
in tongues, is a vital aspect of the pentecostal COGIC church. Looking into glossolalic origins such
as where it came from and its purpose can provide insight into the practices of the pentecostal
COGIC church.
The Church of God in Christ started as a black sect of the Holiness movement in the Mississippi
Valley. The black Holiness movement began in response to the Great Migration of blacks moving
from the rural south to the urban north after changes in the agricultural economy. It gave African
Americans an emotional release through the practices of shouting. Shouting is generally known as
a loud outburst in church after being overwhelmed with the spirit of the Lord combined with fast
dance similar to stepping. Baer says that this practice was popular in the black community as it
provided a temporary spiritual relief from frustrations on racism and poverty. Overall, the goal of
the Holiness movement was to promote sanctification of

Forelimb Ladder Experiment
The purpose of this experiment was to compare rat forelimb preference in the cylinder task and
performance on the horizontal ladder task before and after ischemic stroke in the left motor cortex.
This demonstrates the behavioural effects of ischemic strokes in localized brain regions, including
motor areas. Our results implicate the motor cortex in the production of voluntary movement, and
illustrate the effect of neuronal death on this behaviour. These results support our hypotheses,
revealing that stroke produces deficits in horizontal ladder task performance and decreases forelimb
preference for the limb contralateral to the stroke region. Our results for the horizontal ladder task
found that, on the side contralateral to where stroke... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also likely that the rat forepaws could not fit through this gap, and that fewer errors were
recorded simply due to the close spacing of the rungs. In the 1 Irregular condition, it is possible
that compensatory changes in locomotion to the stroke occurred. This is unlikely, however, as
the purpose of irregular spacing is to control for post stroke compensation (Metz and Whishaw,
2009). All other ladder conditions showed an increase in paw slip errors post stroke, including the
regular patterns. This suggests that rats were unable to compensate behaviourally to the regular
patterns post stroke. Regardless, literature shows that compensatory behaviours occur on the
horizontal ladder task within a few sessions (Metz and Whishaw, 2002; Metz et al., 2005).
However, our rats only performed three trials for each condition on the horizontal ladder over one
day. Thus, the compensatory mechanisms may have needed more time to develop in response to
stroke. Results from the cylinder task showed a significant increase in left forelimb preference
(with a corresponding decrease in right forelimb preference) after ischemic stroke induced in the
left motor cortex, supporting our hypothesis. This is most likely due to the stroke in the left
forelimb motor area making it difficult to control digit movements, wrist extension, elbow flexion,
and shoulder movements for the right limb (Neafsey and Sievert, 1982; Tennant et al., 2011).
Therefore, the left forelimb would be

Although short and non eventful, the battle of Hampton roads, during the Civil war, showed the
world the future of warship construction, forever changing Naval Warfare. After visiting the past
through the museums exhibits, I believe in order to understand this battle in its entirety, one must
not only look at the battle itself but the events leading up to it.
The union had a plan to block the confederacy by placing union ships around it. This particular
battle was a small, taking place in Hampton roads, but the size of the battle has no effect on its
significance. The battle is fought between the CSS (confederate states ship) Virginia, formerly
called the Merrimack, and USS (union states ship) monitor. Each of these ships were carefully
designed war weapons, each made of iron. Beforehand war ships were made of wooden material.

others know that they are being abused would most likely look toward committing suicide.
Some kids who were victims of child abuse would even run away(Ganderilla1). Child abuse not
only effects the child being abused, but also effects the people around him. They also cause
injuries to others around them(Fiorvanti1). Children who gets abused are more likely to cause
fights with others(Pam1). The fighting rate from kids who have been abused by a parent has
rose dramatically(Hugler1). Some kids may get kicked from school or get expelled because of
their behavior. Child abuse can effect children not only physically, but also socially. Child abuse
can also cause social issues for children. Children who have experienced child may keep away
from others or their friends(Ricca1). Some children may even keep away from their family
members(Ricca1). If a child near you is being abused, you should tell someone or confront their

The Motor s New Robotic Surgery System
1.Introduction Motors are widely used to actuate various devices in the field of engineering. The
motor s ability to induce motion at a wide range of scales from small toy car motors to large
industrial fans allow engineers to apply them to a wide variety of situations. Reverse engineering or
testing Or Testing Of Motors (MOTOРЇ), Inc is concerned with the potential applications of three
different types of motors; stepper motors, servo motors and DC and assigned a team to test these
three motors and report the best use for each one. The purpose of this experiment was to test the
different types of motors, report the best case application for each one and recommend a motor for

This linear equation was also used to determine if the motor met the Maximum torque and speed
requirements for each individual joint in the surgery arm. The Vex DC motor that was tested in
this lab met the requirements for Joint C however for A and B, only one of the max
requirements could be met at a time. The requirements for each joint can be found in Table 5 in
the attached sheet. For the servo motor, the values of the pulse widths in milliseconds were
recorded in Table 2 in the attached Figures and Tables sheet with respect to their angles. This
information was graphed into a scatterplot using Excel. A trendline was fitted to the graph to find
Equation 2 that describes the linear relationship between pulse width and servo angle. This
equation can be found on the Sample Calculations sheet. As the stepper motor was tested, the
corresponding angle of different combinations between Switch A and Switch B. The result of
these combinations can be found in Table 3 of the Figures and Tables sheet. Each specific
combination of switch orientations resulted in an angle that was a multiple of 45. From this
information, a sequence was deduced to rotate the motor a full 360 in increments of 45 degrees,
found in Table 4 in Figures and Tables. . Keeping one switch on in one direction whether left or

The World Trade Organization ( Wto ) Agreements
The World Trade Organization (WTO) deals with the global rules of trade between nations. It is
mainly responsible for ensuring that the trade flows smoothly, predictably and freely. The principal
objective of WTO is upliftment of the standard of living internationally; it does activities
surrounding the same.
When Ministers had adopted the Marrakesh Agreement they had also decided to include a
specific reference to Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Article V: 2. The General
Council additionally clarified the framework for relations with NGOs by adopting a set of

Symposia
Since 1996, a number of symposia have been arranged by the Secretariat for NGOs on particular
issues of interest to civil society, namely, three on trade and the environment, one on trade and
development and one on trade facilitation. These symposia have provided, on a relaxed basis, the
opening for NGOs to discuss certain specific issues with representatives of WTO Member countries.
Day to day Contact
The WTO Secretariat receives a huge number of requests per day from NGOs, from all over the
world and Secretariat staff meets with NGOs on a habitual basis both individually and as a part of
NGO organized events.
The annual report of the World Trade Organizationcorroborates the growing official relationship
between civil society and trade. Tucked away in a silent corner of the report is the reason that the
number of NGOs attending the WTO ministerial increased many times over, from 108 at the
Singapore ministerial in 1996 to 811 in the Hong Kong ministerial, nine years later.
The growth that occurred in the Seattle ministerial can be attributed to the mobilization of NGOs
that were in fact against the WTO. Indeed, at several points in that ministerial, including its
abandoned inauguration, official NGO delegates attempted to disrupt proceedings.
The role of NGO s in the panel proceedings has been recognized recently but their potential on how

Android Vs Apple Vs Android
One well known ongoing controversy is Apple versus Android. Many buyers want to know
which phone will be more dependable in long run, so they will not have to purchase another one
anytime soon. People have become biased toward which device they believe performs better and
will not try and use any other programmed device. There are also those who like to experiment
and try a new something new, and love and switch or hate and remain loyal to their original buy.
People are subjective to their own decisions there is no hard proof that one is more significantly
greater than the other. Important aspects are taken into consideration when purchasing a phone
such as: hardware, software, and the basics. The way these devices perform paves how they will
appeal to potential buyers. Durability is important, because nobody wants a phone that will
crack with the slightest drop. However, people are tending to lie less on this factor because of
lifeproof, waterproof, shockproof, shatterproof, etc. cases that were developed. Battery life is a
key factory in anything technological because people want a reliable phone that they know will
hold out. Both parties allow users to view their battery life and even put it on low power mode.
However, Androidreleased a gadget that allows phones to charge faster and wirelessly, feeling
defeated Apple decided to launch the same thing. The only downside to this is that with IOS it has
to be purchased separately just like the air pod earphones, which are

Should Children Be Allowed In Schools Research Paper
Should children be segregated from each other in schools based on their gender? Many teachers

Why Ducks In Cowville Was A Flop
Why Ducks in Cowville Was a Flop Our class play, Ducks in Cowville, was a flop. The acting
was terrible, the costumes appeared dreadful, and all the bad news about our play got out fast. It
was not just one person s fault though. We all contributed to the disaster. The terrible acting was
the main reason Ducks in Cowville was horrible. Luckily, Ben, Jill, Chris, and Feliz, the actors
who played the cows, remembered most of their lines. On the other hand, the actors who played
the ducks only had one rehearsal, so they barely remembered any of their lines! In addition, no
one could hear Enrico s solo, Oh Lonely Duck. I know it made up part of the show, but it might
have been a good thing no one could hear him. He ruined the whole song.

Society has been greatly influenced by song and movement. There is no documented time when
dance was first discovered, since it has been around for more than any person remember. There are
millions of types and definitions of dance in the world, and it can be performed or interpreted in
many different ways. The dictionary most commonly defines danceas moving rhythmically to
music, typically following a sequence of steps. But dance is so much more than justs the simple
movement, it is an escape from reality, the opportunity to meet great new people, and a message to

Effects Of Media Bias On Society
Media Bias and its effects on society Media includes news outlets, print news, and social
networks such as Facebook. Media can be a useful tool for society, allowing everyone to keep in
touch with what is happening around them and working almost as an educator for everyday
people. This being said media is also misused; the media is inaccurate, biased and potentially
dangerous. To counter the problem regulations should be in place along with balanced and fair
reporting. Media can be misused. Media has the power to influence society, from what people

Regulations should not be in place to control media but to ensure that what the media reports is
real and unbiased. The media should be in place to inform and educate the people not to scare or

United states. The U.S. media today is frequently known as the Fourth Estate, an appellation that
suggests the press shares equal stature with the other branches of government created by the

Both Star Trek and Star Wars are historically popular film series and cinematic works of art.
Although they may be works of fiction, the elements and symbols contained within them resemble
historical fact. In these films, there are culturally inherited myths that are synonymous with the
very roots of western civilization. In this essay, I will examine different examples of myth that are
present in these films, what they mean, and offer an explanation for why they are significant. In
order to help understand my thesis, the question may be asked, What is myth? In terms of this

This is an example of Star Trek taking real events from the past and breathing life back into them
by retelling them in a utopian future. In Star Trek s series Deep Space Nine, the planet of Bajor,
and its inhabitants, the Bajorans are like the Hebrew people of Earth, They had a central
religion that kept them hopeful but also made them seem inferior. Instead of the Holocaust it is
called the occupation and it ends with the death of over 10 million people, often in camps. Even
more so, the people commiting this genocide, the Cardassians, were bankrupt, and forced into
wars for agricultural land, with the rise of a new fascist leader they began conquest. This closely
mirrors The bankruptcy of Germany in the 1920 s and their agricultural crisis which led to the
rise of the power of Adolf Hitler. With the help of Star Trek s United Nations, The united
federation of planets The bajorans are able to regain their homeland and be freed from their
camps and establish a weak government. Now this almost like a direct reflection of the events
that took place in World War 2. It is very hard to talk about or in a way recreate such a horrifying
atrocity without criticism, the only way Star Trek did so was because they put more emphasis on
the good parts and the liberation, instead of the countless deaths of innocents. This ties into another
mythos that is key to Star Trek, The

Conch In Lord Of The Flies
Symbols are important to many people because they are a representation of their individuality. In
the novel Lord of The Flies , the conch shell is a representation of leadership and the society. The
scene where the conch is used to take turns speaking throughout the book is one of the most
important scenes. It prevents the tribe from getting out of control, plus it was a great way for them
to understand each other. The conch also displays order through the rule that you must have the
conch to speak in an assembly or meeting. The reason for this rule is that we can t have everybody
talking at once. We ll have to have hands up like at school. Therefore it won t be messy. At first

They have all the power over the conch. Their goal was to control the fire, food, and have
everyone in control. They are the ones that can speak first or over take it. However Ralph has a
bit more power because during the voting for leader, Ralph won until he felt bad and offered his
opponent Jack half. Jack is eager to make rules and punish those who break them, although he
consistently breaks them him self when he needs to further his own interest. As jack with half
of the leadership, he is in charge of the hunters. This being one of his main interests, it begins
with the desire of meat and builds to the overwhelming urge to master and kill other living

Ralph. Piggy was the one who showed Ralph how to blow it and recognized what shell the conch
was. S right, it s a shell! I had seen one like that before. On someone s back wall. A conch he

that piggy and the conch were linked together because in a way, they died at the same time.

No Shave November Tradition
The tradition of No Shave November can be traced to Australia in 2004. A group of 30 men

depression in men. Before No Shave November was created, it started off as Movember, which
was used as an Australian holiday for men to shave off their mustache. Years later it transitioned

became No Shave November, the trend had begun to grow throughout social media as a trending

The Renaissance, Baroque, And Rococo Periods
Abstract
This essay looks at the time in history beginning in the 1400 s to the mid 1700 s which we identify
in art history as The Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo periods. Focusing on the influence new
scientific knowledge had in the art produced during this time with specific examples from each
period and artists of the time.
Keywords: Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Art, History, Science, Knowledge The Renaissance
Beginning with the Renaissance (1400 1600) we see a change in the subject matter being portrayed
by artists of the time. We can attribute this change not only to the change in patrons, from the
Christian church to wealthy bankers and politicians, but also to the growing body of scientific
knowledge. The Renaissance was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

misleading but appropriate for a time in which men were beginning to question the divine and
finding answers in the natural world where science and mathematical solutions were starting to
make sense of everything around us.
Baroque
It is hard to believe that what began during the Renaissance would be followed by what we refer
to as the Baroque period beginning in the 1600 s and later the Rococo. The term Baroque was
first used in the eighteenth century by critics in a negative way. To the eyes of these critics, who
favored the restraint and order of Neoclassicism, the works of Bernini, Borromini, and Pietro da
Cortona appeared bizarre, absurd, even diseased in other words, misshapen, like an imperfect pearl
(Camara, E., n.d. para. 12). Stylistic style differs in the Baroque period with the use of interrupted
contours, dynamism, and instability. In addition, artists were moving toward a more realistic
subject matter and not the idealized portrayals we saw in the Renaissance period.
I see this very much in Zurbaran s paintings of Saint Francis, where the use of chiaroscuro gives it
a dramatic effect but not an idealized or unrealistic feel. However, in keeping with the focus of this
essay which is the influence new scientific knowledge had in the arts we

The Technology Of The Home Appliance Market
The ThermoWave is the newest advancement in the home appliance market, a device with the
capabilities to both heat food and beverages as well as cool them. Comparable in design to a
common countertop microwave, the ThermoWave has dimensions of 18 x30 x20 for our household
version. The ThermoWave comes in a stainless steel finish and is operated through a traditional
touch control numerical pad. Controls on the device allow for heating, cooling, defrosting, thawing,
as well as options for specific items such as poultry, beef, and popcorn. Our company has chosen to
market this appliance in department stores, discount retailers, and online. The ThermoWave is
priced at $159.99, which we feel is a fair market price for the devices capabilities and production
costs. Environmental forces that affect our product and company include: competitive,
technological, legal/regulatory, economic, and sociocultural. The environmental forces are
important because they are the influences behind the market and consumer buying. Lower
unemployment and inflation coupled with the current state of recovery that our country is in are all
positive forces for our company, while lower spending on appliances is a concern for us. Our
competition includes companies such as General Electric, Whirlpool, and Samsung, all titans of the
appliance industry. Though currently the ThermoWave is the only product of its kind, we are
expecting companies to emulate our product in the near future. Social media and the

Where the Huns originated from has been a hot Topic for centuries. Some Historians believe they

who migrated to the west may have a combination of central Asian Turk, Mongolic, and Ugric
stocks . Mundzuk, the father of Attila, was brothers to both king Octar and Rugila who ruled over
the Hunnic empire in the fifth century. Two relatives ruling was common among the Huns, it was

His death left Attila and his brother Bleda in charge of the Huns. When the brothers took control of
the Huns they immediately began bargaining with the Byzantine Emperor Theodosius II for the
return of several Hunic who were renegades against the Huns after the brothers had taken control.
In the year 435 they met with Byzantine leaders at Margus and were able to negotiate a treaty. The
treaty established that the Byzantines would return the renegades, would pay a tribute of 350
Roman pounds of gold per year, and would also trade with the Huns. Happy with the treaty Attila

For the next few years, the Huns did not bother the Romans, this is because the Huns were invading

out of the Middle East and returned to Europe. In the year 440 the Huns began harass the Romans

  • 2. Essay On Political Campaigns The Ever Changing Nature of Political Campaigns Noam Chomsky once said, That s the whole point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody s going to be against, and everybody s going to be for. Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn t mean anything. Wednesday morning, the chilly November air stung my face as I walked slowly towards my car door. To me, it seemed that everything had changed. News of the election results mumbled quietly on the radio as I drove past signs all with the bold words, Make America Great Again. The presidential campaigns of 2016 year seemed so odd to my generation because it seemed that in modern times, campaigns had not been as unpleasant; however, before 2016, my age group had only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beyond these essentials, I believe it is clear our federal government is overgrown and overweight. Not only did Reagan promise of rejuvenation of the American domestic economy, but also advocated for stronger relations with allies to consolidate our spot in the international spotlight. With that being said, the would be fortieth president promoted a North American Accord for strengthening North American links while urging an end to discrimination for women in particular. Overall, Reagan s 1980 campaign rhetoric employed an ambiguous, uplifting approach that urged an encompassing moral reconsideration of American life rather than specific policies; primarily, Reagan appealed to the American public based upon his image of the nation and essentially because he did not represent the America Carter was leading the nation towards. Reagan s opinion on Carter s America can be seen in the quote, I m talking in human terms and he is hiding behind a dictionary. If he wants a definition, I ll give him one. A recession is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you lose yours. A recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his. While the feel good patriotism of the Reagan era was coming to a close, the composition of forty s positive campaign during a nation s era of suffering was now solidified as a potential method of vanquishing the component. The next monumental campaign strategy change since the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nat King Cole s Vocal Style Today, 66 years after the peak of his career, Nat King Cole remains to be a household name. Most anyone you ask will recognize his iconic baritone vocals. Although he is best known for his vocal style, Cole was also an extremely talented piano player. Along with his elegant presence, Cole was able to break the strong barriers of racism in the 1960s, leaving a legacy for artists behind him. Cole was raised in an extremely religious household outside of Chicago. His mother was the choir director of the church, and his father a Pastor. Cole began learning pianoaround age four, which would lead to him dropping out of school at 15 to pursue a career in music. Cole s first band was called the Royal Dukes. In 1936, he left home at age 17 to perform with the national tour of Shuffle Along. Cole s piano technique was greatly influenced by Earl Hines. Cole himself once said that he owed everything to that man ( Nat King ColeJazzPianist ). Over the years Cole developed his own piano style, he became known for its syncopated left hand, and his ability to quickly move from octave to octave. Cole also had an ability to play with a more freedom, as he often played without a drummer. This allowed him to create his own personal style, known for its modern rhythms ( Nat King Cole: The Pianist ). Cole s stage presence was said to be extremely strong, facing the audience as he played. In 1937, Cole formed the King Cole Trio, consisting of himself on the piano, Oscar Moore on the ... • 5. The Church during the Middle Ages The Middle Ages were a time that revolved around Christianity and converting or killing off all those who were not Christian. As a result, strict laws were put in place that prohibited the practices that weren t Christian. This also meant anything that was pagan was prohibited and punishable by death. There were many practices that would be considered pagan, but the main ones of concern were the things the Church did not approve. Of the things the Church did not approve magic, like witchcraft, and heresy were two of the main things that were forbidden by both state and Church law. The main reason the Church wanted to block off magic practices was to stay in power (or keep its power). This is supported by the following: the influence of the Church on the kings resulted in the passing of civil laws against magic; the Inquisition making sure people did not engage in magical practices; the Church leaders downplaying witchcraft; and the persecution of the Knights Templarand followers of John Wycliffe (who led the movement against papal authority and the clergy). Magic originated from pagan roots in the Ancient period when Christianity did not exist. It did not involve devils or demons, as the Church branded it later on and is often portrayed currently. Witchcraft originally was just a form of folk magic that would be practiced as a normal routine, like a prayer, or used for good luck. People made charms and potions to help them do something in their lives. Whether it is for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Secondly, descriptive linguistic studies the sounds (phones) sound systems, grammar, syntax, and the meaning that are attached to words in specific languages (Nzozo, 2013). One might also describe it as an analytic and descriptive branch of how language was used in the past by a collective of people. Thirdly, ethno linguistic inspects the relationship between culture and language and how the two interact and influence each other (Nzozo, 2013). In addition, one could say it is the way different ethnic groups view the world and it is the mixture of ethnology and linguistics. • 7. The Halo Effect For our action research project, we studied the Halo effect and how the Halo effect decreasing with age. Our hypothesis for this experiment was: As we age, the influence our first impressions of someone have on our future impressions decreases. The method of research we chose was; experiment. Before we could conduct this experiment we wrote a story in which the protagonist and antagonists roles were switched around. Meaning, that the perceived protagonist was actually the antagonist and vise versa. After writing the story we came up with seven questions which corresponded with the above story. These questions ranged from, who would you want your friend to be? , to what did you learn from our experiment? . The purpose of these questions was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We were surprised to see how well the grade 3 students paid attention to our story and cooperated with us as we went through the questions. As for the grade 6 class, they cooperated with as as best they could, with the exception of the lack of interest in the story, which was mentioned previously. As far as our method of research goes, it worked out perfectly. If we had done any other method it might not have worked out as well. For example, a survey would not have been as accurate as we were aiming for. By doing an experimental project we were able to get the fairly honest answers from the students. This is mainly because they did not know what we were experimenting and thus could not alter their answer to meet our demands. After our experiment was conducted we analysed the data. This data showed us that: 67% of the grade 3 students continued to believe that tyrone was the protagonist, while only 21% of the grade 6 students believed tyrone was the protagonist. This is a 46% difference between the grades. Looking at this data we can see that as our age increases, our opinions of a person being influenced by our first impression decreases. Or in other words, the Halo effect reduces. These results can be seen in the following ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Bolshevik Tactics that Allowed the October Revolution Assess the view that it was mainly the tactics of the Bolshevik leadership that made possible the October Revolution. INTRO: It was undoubtedly the Bolshevik leadership that made possible the revolution. It was the excellent combination of Trotsky s rhetoric, rallying and inspiring personality, Lenin s astute ability to judge the political mien and the whole party s force and power within the country that led to superb tactics that would eventually make possible the October Revolution. Most modern historians agree that the peasants, workers and soldiers played a major part in the revolution and therefore it was the job of the Bolsheviks to capture this power and manipulate and use it for their own ends. This was made much easier as a result of Trotsky s excellent rhetoric and Victor Serge, in Memoirs of a Revolutionary (1945), recalled that Trotsky was all tension and energy [...] an orator of unique quality [whose voice] always infused with a truly spontaneous passion. He outshone Lenin through his great oratorical talent, through his organising ability, first with the army, then on the railways, and by his brilliant gifts as a theoretician. Naturally, as a Bolshevik it was easier for Serge to agree with Trotsky and therefore, find his words inspiring and interesting. However, to make special note of his rhetoric suggests an unusually good quality to his work and this is further demonstrated by the number of people he managed to rally around his cause. • 11. Functions Of Immune Defense For The Elimination Of Pathogens Yahya Bello Chemokine receptor CXCR3 mediates gene transcription Introduction The invasion of microorganisms constantly threatened many organisms and it has evolved systems of immune defense for the elimination of pathogens in the body (Shizuo Akira1, 2006). Innate and adaptive immunity are two branches that are comprised in the immune system (Shizuo Akira1, 2006). The innate immune system is the first line of the defense against pathogens and it is mediated by phagocytes, which includes macrophages and dendritic cells (DC). Adaptive immunity involved in the elimination of pathogens in the late phase of infection as well as the generation of immunological memory (Shizuo Akira1, 2006). This type of immunity is characterized by specificity and develops by clonal selection from a vast range of lymphocytes bearing antigen specific receptors that are produced through a mechanism that is generally known as gene rearrangement. The innate immune response is not entirely specific, but it was rather able to discriminate between self and a variety of pathogens (Shizuo Akira1, 2006). The innate immune system identifies microorganisms through a limited number of germline encoded pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). This is large varieties of rearranged receptors utilized by the adaptive system. PRRs identify microbial components known as pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and they are important for the survival of the microorganism and are therefore difficult for the ... • 12. Theme Of Water In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Written Task 2 The Symbol of Water within Samuel Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner Romantic literature writers commonly input elements of nature within their writing to express their opinions. Samuel Taylor Coleridge includes the most abundant form of nature, water, within The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Water, in its various forms, symbolizes the power and force of nature in both the natural and spiritual world. Water in the form of ice represents imprisonment and the harsh acts that nature imposes as a punishment. The Mariner the main character of the ballad says that the ice was all between. / The ice was here, the ice was there, / the ice was all around , essentially imprisoning him within it (58 60). While surrounded on the ship, there is water, water, everywhere. / Nor any drop to drink for the mariner and his crew because the ocean is all made of salt water (121 122). Nature torments the crew by not letting them have any fresh water as punishment for their actions, and the irony of the drought is how there is water everywhere but they still are in a drought, constantly being teased by nature; also, in attempts to describe the degree of irony, water is repeated twice highlighting the access of water that is unavailable. The water is also described as like a witch s oils which Burnt green, and blue, and white (129 130). Water is compared by a simile to witch s oils , equating the necessary resource of water to other evil related liquids; this in turn de values the water that they need to live, and continues the entrapment of the crew as punishment. Nearing the end of the passage, water still rumbled on, / Still louder and more dread in a never ending torment of water and imprisonment (547 548). Water continuously represents the harsh punishments of nature, specifically eliciting fear in the Mariner as words such as dread and rumbled impose fear and stun the Mariner, during the falling action of the ballad. Nature barrages the Mariner with punishment using irony and imprisonment through the element of water excessively. Samuel Taylor Coleridge s writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One way he did that was helping craft the future to prevent dog fighting. Once Vick and a few others came up with the idea, they brought it to Wayne Pacelle, the president of the Humane Society. We saw a great opportunity for me to come to Capitol Hill and draw attention to some of the inadequate animal welfare laws (Vick). Vick was eight years old when he saw his first dog fight. However, splenectomy combined with resection of other abdominal organs was found to be associated with high postoperative morbidity like overwhelming post splenectomy infection (OPSI), subphrenic abscess formation, hypercoagulability and even increase risk of cancer[3, 17, 18]. This approach does not expose the superior mesenteric vein. For the tumor near the tail of the pancreas, the free length of the splenic vessels is relatively short. In their very nature, we can see that these two novels vary greatly in purpose, structure, and the way that they convey their messages. Although this is true, they make up for this when we examine the motives of the authors and certain ways that the authors convey messages. Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner grew up and developed their opinions in far different ways. Hemingway was heavily affected by his experiences in World War I and the Spanish Civil War. These events greatly influenced Hemingway s ideas about war in For Whom the Bell Tolls (5). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most central character relationships in both surrounds hostility between characters that should otherwise be friends. In As I Lay Dying, this situation is shown through the relationship between Jewel and Darl, and also through the relationship between Anse and Addie. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, we see a similar relationship between Pablo and Robert Jordan. The hostility that these character have for one another is rooted in a lack of trust. Addie is hostile to Anse because she believes that Anse manipulated her into having children, without truly loving her. Darl is hostile to Jewel because Jewel was Addie s favorite child, and Darl believes that Jewel was unfairly given love (so he chooses not to trust Jewel). Robert Jordan lacks trust for Pablo because he believes that Pablo will betray the him and the Republic. This hostility between characters is also similar in the fact the we do not always know the reasoning or the outcome of hostility. For the entire first half of the novel, we do not know why Addie acted the way that she did, and for the same reason, why Darl treated Jewel the way that he did. We will never know how much Robert Jordan s hostility for Pablo affected the story. Perhaps Robert Jordan would have gone on to live a happy life had he not disrupted the flow of the group. The similar way in which hostility between characters is depicted shows a great similarity between the novels, but we can also see a great contrast in the way love is shown. The love that Maria and Robert Jordan have in For Whom the Bell Tolls is depicted as very free and open, while Addie refuses to love anyone but Jewel in her family, because she was betrayed and Anse only said, and did not show, that he loved her. Growing up in a Church of God in Christ church, which is the third largest pentecostal denomination in the world, every Sunday morning and Friday night I would witness people ecstatically break out into tongues after catching the holy spirit. This piqued my interest in its origin and meaning to the pentecostal church. Glossolalia, also known as speaking in tongues, is a vital aspect of the pentecostal COGIC church. Looking into glossolalic origins such as where it came from and its purpose can provide insight into the practices of the pentecostal COGIC church. The Church of God in Christ started as a black sect of the Holiness movement in the Mississippi Valley. The black Holiness movement began in response to the Great Migration of blacks moving from the rural south to the urban north after changes in the agricultural economy. It gave African Americans an emotional release through the practices of shouting. Shouting is generally known as a loud outburst in church after being overwhelmed with the spirit of the Lord combined with fast dance similar to stepping. Baer says that this practice was popular in the black community as it provided a temporary spiritual relief from frustrations on racism and poverty. Overall, the goal of the Holiness movement was to promote sanctification of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Forelimb Ladder Experiment The purpose of this experiment was to compare rat forelimb preference in the cylinder task and performance on the horizontal ladder task before and after ischemic stroke in the left motor cortex. This demonstrates the behavioural effects of ischemic strokes in localized brain regions, including motor areas. Our results implicate the motor cortex in the production of voluntary movement, and illustrate the effect of neuronal death on this behaviour. These results support our hypotheses, revealing that stroke produces deficits in horizontal ladder task performance and decreases forelimb preference for the limb contralateral to the stroke region. Our results for the horizontal ladder task found that, on the side contralateral to where stroke... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also likely that the rat forepaws could not fit through this gap, and that fewer errors were recorded simply due to the close spacing of the rungs. In the 1 Irregular condition, it is possible that compensatory changes in locomotion to the stroke occurred. This is unlikely, however, as the purpose of irregular spacing is to control for post stroke compensation (Metz and Whishaw, 2009). All other ladder conditions showed an increase in paw slip errors post stroke, including the regular patterns. This suggests that rats were unable to compensate behaviourally to the regular patterns post stroke. Regardless, literature shows that compensatory behaviours occur on the horizontal ladder task within a few sessions (Metz and Whishaw, 2002; Metz et al., 2005). However, our rats only performed three trials for each condition on the horizontal ladder over one day. Thus, the compensatory mechanisms may have needed more time to develop in response to stroke. Results from the cylinder task showed a significant increase in left forelimb preference (with a corresponding decrease in right forelimb preference) after ischemic stroke induced in the left motor cortex, supporting our hypothesis. This is most likely due to the stroke in the left forelimb motor area making it difficult to control digit movements, wrist extension, elbow flexion, and shoulder movements for the right limb (Neafsey and Sievert, 1982; Tennant et al., 2011). Therefore, the left forelimb would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Baroque It is hard to believe that what began during the Renaissance would be followed by what we refer to as the Baroque period beginning in the 1600 s and later the Rococo. The term Baroque was first used in the eighteenth century by critics in a negative way. To the eyes of these critics, who favored the restraint and order of Neoclassicism, the works of Bernini, Borromini, and Pietro da Cortona appeared bizarre, absurd, even diseased in other words, misshapen, like an imperfect pearl (Camara, E., n.d. para. 12). Stylistic style differs in the Baroque period with the use of interrupted contours, dynamism, and instability. In addition, artists were moving toward a more realistic subject matter and not the idealized portrayals we saw in the Renaissance period.
