The Sociological Theories Of Gender Development In Society
Socialization happens over our interactions; however, it is not as simple as it may seem. A gender
system occurs in every society. It is all about of all the ideas of female and male that are in a certain
place at a certain time and all the values as regards who decides what, who does what, and how we
feel ourselves and one another, mutually and independently. For this reason, there are too many gender
researchers that study how we construct our life (for example, how we think, feel, interpret, etc.).
Researches who came up with some theories about gender development, and we will be explaining
them in this essay. According to the book Gendered lives by Julia T. Wood, a theory is a way to
describe, explain, and predict relationships among phenomena. She also explains that each of us uses
theories to make sense of our live, to guide our attitudes and actions, and to predict other s behavior
(Julia T Wood, 37). With this intention, researches came up with four classifications of gender
development and behaviors theories: biological, interpersonal, cultural and critical. Biological theories
of gender maintain that biological characteristics such as chromosomes, hormonal activities and brain
specialization account for gender differences (Julia T. Wood, 38). In other words, gender is determined
by chromosomes and hormones. In fact, hormonal activity plays a big roll in gender development. For
example, there is a study made by Quadango et al. (1977) that found that female

Beretta M9 Research Paper
The 9mm caliber Beretta M9 handgun has been in service for 32 years after it won a competition in
the 1980s to replace the .45 caliber Colt M1911A as the Army s sidearm. The M9 is a short recoil,
semi automatic, single action/double action pistol, chambered in 9mm, and has a 15 round magazine.
It last received an update in 2006 to the M9A1 variant adding a Picatinny rail for various attachments,
a more aggressive front and back strap checkering, and a beveled magazine well for easier reloading.
The Center for Naval Analysis released a report in 2006 on small arms in combat. It conducted
surveys on 2608 Soldiers returning from combat over a period of 12 months. Only Soldiers that had
fired their weapon in combat were allowed to participate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It consists of a 5.5 (full size) or 4.7 (compact) barrel, slide, recoil spring assembly, removable and
serialized internal stainless steel frame fire control unit and trigger mechanism, ambidextrous slide
release and magazine ejector, and an exchangeable polymer lower to allow for different grip sizes. The
slide is fitted with 3 dot adjustable iron sights instead of plastic to reduce wear. Stainless steel
magazines will supply 21 rounds for the full size version and 17 rounds for the compact. Three
different sizes of the polymer lower grip will be available in small, medium, and large. Caliber sizes
can be changed between 9mm, .357SIG, and .40S W by swapping out the slide, recoil spring
assembly, barrel, and magazine. It can be taken apart without tools and without squeezing the trigger.
The trigger has a pull weight of 5.5 lbf. Multiple safeties will ensure safe operations and they include:
a loaded chamber indicator, an ambidextrous thumb safety, a striker safety which prevents the striker
from releasing unless the trigger is pulled, a disconnect safety which prevents the pistol from firing
out of battery, a magazine disconnect safety, and a 3 point takedown safety where the magazine must

L. M. Rosenblatt
Summary and analysis of theory and research Over the last eight years, I have been a reading/literature
teacher in a middle school composed of 6th through 8th grade. I find that my teaching style has
evolved since finishing my undergraduate work due in part to the following theorists. A theoretical
model by definition is an abstraction, or a generalized pattern devised in order to think about a subject
(Rosenblatt, 1938). This was L. M. Rosenblatt s premise on literacy models, and one which I feel
reflects my thought and feelings while writing this paper. Pioneers The theorist listed in this category
could also be listed under the contemporaries. While she began her work many years ago, her work
has continued to the present. She had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader may decide on an efferent attention, which has the reader learning from the text. This is
common core classes such as science and history. The second stance is aesthetic and that has the
reader living or feeling the story. Reading a novel for pleasure would fall under this stance. In her
model, writing takes the same stance. If a student reads a poem, they may write another poem

we are always in a state of transaction. We are always changing and growing. Our socioculture
changes to fit the needs of the school environment as needed. We also bring our community and
family culture into the classroom to add to the already growing and changing atmosphere. This can
affect the entire class dynamics relating to the text. Contemporaries James Paul Gee believes that a

Epiphary In Katherine Mansfield s The Garden Party
There are many reasons behind an author s story. Mainly it is to portray a message, give a good laugh,
or explain a purpose, but the author will get their point across to their readers. In Katherine Mansfield
s, The Garden Party, she focuses on a young, upperclass girl, with the name of Laura Sheridan. During
the story, the Sheridan family is preparing to host a very lively garden party. Unfortunately for the
circumstance, there has been a death in their community. The Scott family, who is of the middle class,
had just lost their husband and their father. The wake for Mr. Scott just so happens to be during the
time of the garden party. The separation of classes causes an unsettling act of sympathy from Laura.
She can not decide whether to be on the right side or the wrong side of the situation. The death of Mr.
Scott allows Laura Sheridan to experience an epiphany, as she encounters the difference s between the
upper and middle classes, life and death, and a new perspective of life. Many people are often judged
by their appearances, living arrangements, or income status. That is how the world views and
classifies people to place them in a hierarchical stature.
There were a few middle class workers hired to set up a marquee at the Sheridan house. Since Laura
was considered to be the artistic one (EastoftheWeb 2) of her siblings, she was chosen to conduct the
hired workers on where to set up the marquee. During her time as supervisor, she overhears a tragic
story one of

Parkinson s Disease And The Disease
Parkinson s disease is a chronic disorder of the nervous system with a gradual onset that primarily
affects the body s motor system. The symptoms of the disease are mainly caused by the death of
dopamine producing cells in the midbrain. Dopamine is an important neurotransmitter that, among
other things, is responsible for playing a role in how the brain controls bodily movements. Therefore,
the cardinal symptoms of the disease are movement related, including tremor and rigid, jerky
movements. Parkinson s is a progressive disease, meaning it gets worse over time, until it eventually
leads to complete disability. Parkinson s is a fairly common disease, and several well known people,
such as actor Michael J. Fox and boxer Muhammad Ali have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Parkinson s disease produces both motor symptoms and nonmotor symptoms. There are four cardinal
motor symptoms of Parkinson s: tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia (slow movements), and postural
instability. Tremor is the most obvious symptom of Parkinson s, as well as the most common. The
tremor is uncontrollable and is most noticeable when the limb is at rest; when the limb is in use, the
tremor disappears. Often times, the tremor only affects the hand or foot on one side of the body, but it
can eventually become bilateral. Rigidity is characterized as stiffness and resistance to movement in
the limbs. The arms, legs, face, and back are areas commonly affected. Early on, rigidity can cause
joint pain, often in the shoulder. Bradykinesia is one of the most common symptoms of Parkinson s. It
is described as slowness and difficulty in initiating and making movements, especially repetitive
movements and fine motor skills, such as writing. Bradykinesia greatly affects the ability of the
Parkinson s sufferer to perform common activities of daily life, like getting dressed. According to
Nolden (2015), postural instability is the imbalance and loss of righting reflexes. This is usually a
symptom that shows up in the late stages of Parkinson s. Postural instability is linked with high rates
of hip fractures in people with Parkinson s disease, due to increased falls. Aside from the four cardinal
motor symptoms, there are secondary motor symptoms that go

Causes: Lenovo was number 9 on PC market and had 2.2% market share worldwide and therefore it

market share and wanted to expand. They first tried to diversify into non PC areas but they failed and

o acquiring LG Laptops (option 3.4.) would lead to a small increase, as LG is not one of the big laptop
producers. o expanding in the non PC area via smartphones (option 3.5.) would not do anything for
the current market share, as we would be talking about a different market segment altogether.
It provides quick and extensive access to a large distribution network of retail and corporate
customers, lowering distribution costs (the same goes for option 3.3., which also brings Lenovo
contact with IBM s network) o option 3.2. keeps Lenovo isolated in the home market o option 3.4.
would bring with it a small distribution network, proportionate to the small size of the LG laptop
division. o option 3.5. might mean a possibly large network, but, as it is in another production sector,
so it could not be easily coupled with Lenovo s existing one.
It provides the possibility of brand capitalization, in the sense that Lenovo would take advantage of
the reputation and customer base of IBM and incorporate them through the acquisition, lowering
marketing costs o in the case of a merger, the brand name would be probably shared for the whole
duration of the partnership. o under options 3.4. and 3.5., as said before, LG is not a brand name in IT
or in smartphones, so Lenovo could not use this to attract more

Billy Bribbit Character Analysis
Secondly, the character Billy Bibbit faces a lot of pressure, as seen with his relationship with his
mother, has a hard time fitting in with others due to his stuttering and find challenges in coping with
such things. First off, he is unable to meet unrealistic expectations , placed upon him by his mother
and enforced by the nurse Miss Ratched. Billy always seems to be in fear every time his mother is
brought up, and worries about disappointing her. His mother unfortunately though, is friends with
Miss.Ratched and so she uses this to her advantage, such as threatening to call Billy s mom, ever time
he steps out of line or does something wrong. It is unfortunate though, that these women in his life

With the high expectations on him, and the struggle to fit in, Billy is caught in the middle of what
other people want from him, without any way out. His stutter is not something he can make go away,
and the pressure from others to do and be better, will always be there, since there will always be
people in our lives who are unsatisfied with something about ourselves. He also cannot erase what he
has done to cope with this, most of his scars from self harming can even be permanent , and the guilt,
or reminder of doing so, will always be there then, marked upon his skin. Chief shows his remorse for
Billy, stating, He has to be cagey Billy... What could I do? I can t fix your stuttering. I can t wipe the
razor blade scars off your wrists or the cigarette burns off the back of your hands. I can t give you a

dignity you got left is gone and you shrink to nothing from humiliation, I can t do anything about that
either... Put your face away, Billy , ( Kesey, pg.115). This was said when the Big Nurse began trying to

on how even if one wanted to help, it is not that easy. Chief in this quote, brings up an

Stern V. Stern Case Summary
Gerald M. Stern, Arnold Porter s lawyer decided to represent survivors of the Buffalo Creek Disaster.
Unlike Pittston, he was very ethical person in the story. Arnold Porter had not enough lawyers to
handle the case properly so G. Stern decided to dedicate the rest of his pro bono partnership
exclusively to this case. He examined what the victims had experienced by information provide by
medical and psychology experts. He put a lot of effort in collecting information of both monetary and
non monetary damage to protect victims. He also pressured Pittston by proving each survivor had

for many months, collecting information on each plaintiff s losses ... to begin providing the details of
psychic impairment and survival syndrome (Stern 94). Pittston s lawyer once asked for a motion to

Organ sale legality Essay
Legalizing the Sale of Human Organs
Every 10 minutes, another person is added to the waiting list for an organ transplant. That s 144
people every day, 52,620 people every year. And every day, 18 people die because there aren t enough
organs to go around. That is 6,570 people dying every year because they have waited too long for an
organ transplant [All About Donation]. There has to be some way to prevent these innocent people
from dying, and there is a way. Pretend for a moment that you re in a room full of very sick people
who need to be treated with medicine. Unfortunately, the room that you re in does not have enough
medicine. What do you do? You get more medicine from somewhere else. So how do we save people
who need an organ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His argument was that The transplants were successful and the donors and recipients are now leading
full and healthy lives. [Anthony Gregory, 1]. These are just a couple of examples from other various
articles who also support legalizing organ sales. It doesn t take a rocket scientist to realize that it
would rescue those needing organ transplants. We shouldn t outlaw something that can potentially
save thousands of lives each year. It isn t right to prevent this from happening.
The sale of organs is a very ethically controversial issue though. It is viewed as disrespecting to the
human body, degrading it into nothing but a product. It would take away the beauty of the beautiful
and amazing anatomical structure that it is. But isn t it just as, if not more, disrespectful and degrading
to let an innocent human being die? That s an innocent person with an incredible life ahead them that
you have just taken away. Yet people are still hesitant. They predict that people will not want to donate
for a good cause but only for a reward. This argument has much truth to it but the human body does
not have much dignity to it now. People are free to do what they please with their body. They can
pierce their whole body as well as tattoo it, and that s on the outside. Changing the body on the inside
is in my opinion less degrading than

Utilitarianism, Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism
There are several theories that try to explain the morality of the actions; however, two stand out. the
first is deontology, and the other one is utilitarianism. The former follow the idea that the
consequences of you action hold no importance in what we ought to do. But rather, some actions are
morally wrong or good by itself. The latter follows an opposite view in which the consequences of an
action are what it makes an action moral. Specially, if that action produce the greatest happiness over
unhappiness. In this essay I will focus on two Utilitarianism ramifications, act utilitarianism and rule
utilitarianism. They both agree that consequences must be the greatest factor in deciding what we
ought to do. Nonetheless they have one big difference. Rule Utilitarianism generalize acts and recreate
the consequences of a rule. If the consequences are ultimately favoring, then it is morally right. By
way of contrast, Act Utilitarianism evaluate each action individually, and similar situation would have
different outcomes depending on the situation. There is no universal rule unlike rule utilitarianism. In
order to determine how different, the act and rule utilitarianism are, I will analyze it by applying them
in the following scenario. Let s imagine, you are a doctor in an oncology ward in a major city that is
strapped for financial and material resources. One evening, two patients are admitted to the hospital.
One patient is suffering from a seemingly incurable form of

Mrs. Linde as a Foil for Nora in A Doll s House
Random House Webster s dictionary defines a foil as a person or thing that makes another seem better
by contrast. This essay will focus on the use of the foil to contrast another character. The characters of
Nora and Mrs. Linde provide an excellent example of this literary device. Mrs. Linde s aged,
experienced personality is the perfect foil for Nora s childish nature. Mrs. Linde s hard life is used to
contrast the frivolity and sheltered aspects of Nora s life. Nora s optimism and belief in things
improbable is an opposite to the rationality and down to earth mentality of Mrs. Linde. Finally, the

Helmer: But Nora
Nora: Oh, please, Torvald darling, do that! I beg you, please. Then I could hang the bills in pretty gilt
paper on the Christmas tree. Wouldn t that be fun? (Ibsen 77 87)
Mrs. Linde is the perfect foil for Nora as can be evidenced with the following excerpt from lines 297
301. Mrs. Linde s self sacrifice for her closest loved ones is atypical of those without the utmost
maturity. Mrs. Linde married a man she did not love for the purpose of security:
Nora: ...is it really true that you weren t in love with your husband? Why did you marry him then?
Mrs. Linde: My mother was still alive, but bedridden and helpless and I had my two younger brothers
to look after. In all conscience, I didn t think I could turn him down.
Evidence of Mrs. Linde s hard life can be seen in the conversation occurring between herself and
Doctor Rank, a friend of the Helmer s. In contrast to Nora s life of little trouble and frivolity, Mrs.
Linde has worn herself out, both mentally and physically:
Mrs. Linde: Yes, I take the stairs very slowly. They re rather hard on me.
Dr. Rank: Uh hm, some touch of internal weakness?
Mrs. Linde: More overexertion, I d say.

Compare And Contrast The New Deal And Populism
The late 19th century and early 20th century was a time of great change and reform for America.
People felt disadvantaged and unequal, causing reform groups to form and government policies to be
instated. These are known as Populism, Progressivism, and the New Deal. Although they are similar in
some ways, they are also different. Populism, or the People s Party, was formed for many economic
reasons. Most of the agrarian society felt as if they were not equal to bigger industries (Brinkley 449
451). Railroad services charged small farmers more for shipping rates and bigger industries less. The
farmers claimed that railroad services fixed their rates because they would cut deals with the bigger
businesses. Populists also wanted a reform of currency (455). They wanted to do so in a way that
would raise crops and farm products, so they could get more money and would be able to alleviate
their debt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People thought that they were destined and supposed to make advances and progress with society
(477). Progressivists were mainly middle class Americans, experts, and women. They pushed for
honest and responsive government, an efficient economy and government, and protection to the
vulnerable. Progressivists are known to have instated a new boldness and confidence for the American
people and wanted to be the best they could be. They were also concerned with poor people. They
wanted to ease poor living conditions and protect them and help them. Women played a huge role in
progressive reform. The Progressive Era was the time of one of the largest movements in American
history, women s suffrage (483). During this time, women pushed for equal rights as men, especially
the right to vote. Women slowly started to gain ground in the movement and finally gained the right to
vote in 1920 when the 19th amendment was

Violence in Contact Sports Essay
THESIS: Contact sports have been here since the medieval times. Soccer was also already being put
into sport use by china in the dynasties. Implied, players on both teams have agreed to be hit, pushed,

line? Using examples from previous court cases, we will examine how players in the NHL could be
charged when excessive force against other players in the opposite team come into play. Having
hockey being used for an example, we will examine and look at the rules of the NHL, as well as how

Penalty calls on the other hand, calls for more serious infractions, like putting the player in the box ,
and creating power plays for example. The 2004 05 lockouts of the NHL (lasting 310 days, this was
originally the 88th season of the NHL) changed some rules of the league with the offense. It started
with the minor offense: offside . The offside pass or two line pass rule was removed; requiring a
stoppage in play if a pass originating from the defensive team was completed on the offensive side of
the center line. Reinstating the tag up offside, this advantage allows an attacking player to get back
onside by returning to the neutral zone. Changes to the offside rule were intended to increase overall
scoring. Another minor offense is the icing call. A linesman gets stopped in play if a defending player
(other than the goalie himself) touches the puck before an attacking player does. As a result, when a
team is called on the offense of icing, they are not allowed to make a line change before the following
faceoff. Fighting (doesn t happen often), is called in penalties as well, both players have the duration
of five minutes. Usually, a penalized team cannot replace a player that is penalized on the ice
shorthanded for the duration of the penalty. But, if the penalties are coincidental, when two players
fight for example, both teams remain at full strength. Unlike minor penalties, major penalties must be

prominent in their campaigns to gather votes in these two regions were government, economy, and
slavery. Using these topics as foundations, the members of both parties of the Second American Party

But when a group of radical evangelicals called for immediate abolition of slavery, they made the
national government face the issue of slavery, an issue it had been trying very hard to side step. In
response, the Democrats prevented any abolitionist mail from reaching the South. Sometimes, they
would not even respond to anti slavery petitions that were sent to them. At this moment, former
President Adams (an opponent to President Andrew Jackson) chose to openly oppose slavery. But
already, most southerners saw what the Democrats wanted them to see: that their surest guarantee of
safety within the Union was a disciplined Democratic Party that avoided sectional arguments. The
Democrats said that a party that united northern and southern rights into a states rights, limited
government majority could guarantee states rights within the Union. This statement answered the
questions that arose during the Missouri debates: how do you protect the slave holding South within
the federal Union. Martin Van Buren believed the alternative to this agenda, the isolation of the
slaveholding south, would lead to moral danger of the republic. Though said to be racists the
Democrats handled the slave situation in a way that made the south understand their plan. Views on
economy were a big difference between the Jacksonian Democrats and their opponents in relation to
the north and south. President Jackson hated the bank and believed it was

The Vikings Research Paper
The Vikings are known for being some of history s most ruthless invaders. Norseman who pillaged
every town they came upon and destroyed any military resistance to their extensive raids. Starting in
the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark the seafarers began extending the scope
of their raids and influence, eventually wintering overseas. Two modern day countries England and
France, once empires and kingdoms, were particularly targeted throughout the Vikings long history.
Viking raids happened fast and were effective, often leaving villages in ruins, having been pillaged by
the fearless warriors. Their naval power was unmatched at the time which gave them the advantage

Vikings negatively impacted political leaders in England by occupying their lands. These Anglo Saxon
kings tried to buy off the Vikings from their kingdoms to remove them (Davis). Following the
occupation of these smaller kingdoms, the Vikings moved in to Mercia, or central England, as well as
East Anglia and North Umbria from 865 CE to 879 CE (Davis). The Vikings killed King Edmund of
East Anglia and occupied his lands (Davis). Over 150 years later, in 1013 1016, Viking invasions
aiming at the conquest of England forced English king Ethelred II and his son Canute to flee from
their kingdom in England to Normandy for safety from the Vikings (Davis). The Vikings negatively
influenced these ruling political leaders due to the occupation of their lands and harm or threats to
them by the Vikings. Vikings negatively impacted religious leaders in France through attacking towns
and churches, taking their resources, and displacing centers for Christian church. During their 9th
century raids in France, the Vikings were said to have caused a wave of fear and revulsion even to
religious leaders. One religious leader, the Bishop of Meaux, described the Vikings as harsh, cruel,
greedy, and insatiable as they used their swords to destroy all the beauty in the region and gave up
everything to a devouring flame. The Bishop of Meaux said this in speculation

Teenage Subcultures
Due to the war ending in 1945, all families were able to settle down and have children. This led to the
baby boom of 1945 1960s where there was an abundance of youths in the 1950s. In the 50s there were
almost 100 babies born a minute putting a threat to over population (Howell.G, 1975). From this, the
teenager was invented (Kotarba J A, 2012) where many different subcultures had formed, each with
individual styles and influenced by figures in film, music and TV. Glossy fashion magazines such as
Vogue and Seventeen were also becoming very popular so youths were able to easily see what the
future held for trends and what clothes they should and shouldn t be wearing. Teenage girls and boys
were now recognised as a new consumer and when designers started to realise this they set up
boutiques inside department stores (Buxbaum.G, 1999). They sold simpler designs at cheaper prices
where the younger generation were able to create their own style rather than copying their parents, for
example ranges of clothes would come out specifically targeted at young girls for dances where they
would have a large choice in dresses to buy. British teenagers had twice as much money to spend on
what they liked compared to their parents (Breward.C, 1999). This meant that a new market opened up
for retailers with a great economic dependence on this particular age group. One of these subcultures
that had formed was called the Teddy Boys and Girls which originated in Mayfair, London before

The Watergate Scandal Of America
The Watergate scandal was an event with many strong incidents in pre scandal, present scandal, and
post scandal. How could this scandal affect American politics? One event that is currently happening
right now because it s a result of the scandal and is affecting American politics is the loss of trust in
the government by the public. With conspiracy theories directed towards criminals and Nixon running
out of office, trust in the system was at an all time low. Another effect of Watergate is when the media
increased its scrutiny of politics and politicians. Ever since the Watergate scandal, the publishers of
media have inflated and over exaggerated the news about Americas federal system to try to be noticed
or start a world controversy. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this period, a presidential election was seemed essential because the Vietnam War was taking
place which led the US to a harsh political divide. The harsh methods used in this campaign were
actually known as illegal espionage . This lead to Nixon s group who reelected the president to steel
copies of top secret documents and bugged the office s phones (Watergate: The Break In). This break
in was known as a third rate burglary attempt. Their attempt failed and the committee came back to
the building a few days later to barge right back in, but this time getting caught before things got out
of hand.
This scandal was attempted to be covered up but did not work. President Richard Nixon thought to
himself, if the media found out about this, they would blow the situation way out of proportion and
take it further then needed (which they did when they found out). Nixon also thought that if any
American citizen found out about this scandal, they would lose trust in politics and never be able to
rely on the governmental system. So the people that attempted to break into the system were offered
money to keep quiet and not tell any true stories to the media. Nixon gave speeches and presentations
on how the staff were not the crime committers and that the people who did it were unknown. His
voters and coworkers grew suspicious so they did a mini, untracked investigation. They found tape

Analysis Of Shane Koyczan And Many Artists
To this day is a spoken word poem and video illustration by Shane Koyczan and many artists. It was
created in 2013 with the purpose of effectively spreading the convincing message that bullying is a
real and serious thing that is too often dismissed as normal and not acted upon as the serious thing it
is. 2013 was shortly after the new large push against bullying which is likely one large reason as to the
creation and popularity of this work. However even with the anti bullying movement it would not
have become popular if it was not in itself an effective piece at conveying its own point against
bullying and contributing to the cause. Koyczan made his piece so successful by successfully using
ethos and pathos to make hard hitting grounded points to his purpose. He also used small amounts of
logos but it was not a majorly effective part of his piece. Ethos is the way the writer creates a persona
that allows the audience to see them as trustworthy, relatable, knowledgeable, and as someone with
authority. Then uses these to convince an audience of their point. This is use of ethos effectively done
in the creation of koyczan s poem to this day . He shows his reliability and knowledge to the viewer
by showing them that he has personal experience with the main topic. He tells the story of his pain
when he was bullied and how simple name calling left lasting effects on him personally. This not only
lets the viewer see that he has a reliable viewpoint, it shows that he has

Reflection About Happiness
When I was around nine years old I lived in California. It was nothing fancy; we lived in a standard
house and I attended the elementary school I was zoned to. I was in the choir, too. The choir was, if
my memory does not fail me, a combination of fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. That year the teacher
had decided to use the song Happiness from the Broadway musical You re a Good Man, Charlie
Brown. While it was not a very good rendition of the piece, it stayed with me throughout the years.
For a long time I believed that happiness could be found in objects, in buying plastic things that I
would throw away a year later. But the song s catchy and meaningful lyrics stayed in the back of my
mind, providing me with a gentle reminder that my happiness did not necessarily have to come from
owning things. Despite popular belief, happiness is not something that is bought. Happiness is not
palpable. Up until a year ago, I believed that in order to be truly happy a person had to have massive
amounts of money and materialistic products that did nothing to make them happy. Though that may
be the case for some, I found that happiness is not often found in the amount of clothes a person has,
or the price tag of their home or car. Happiness is not measured in dollars, or how many properties a
person owns, or even how much their house is worth. Happiness, to me, is a feeling that is found in
people, memories and moments. When I think of the word happy I see my grandparent s house. The

The Florida Panther used to thrive throughout most of southeastern United States, but today, they are
little number of species in southern Florida. The habitat of Florida panthers consists of pinelands,
hardwood hammocks, and swamp terrain. Living in these types of environments, you can tell that their
body types are made to hunt live prey. Their preferences for sources of food are: wild hogs, deer,
rabbits, and when limited resources they will eat raccoons and crocodiles. In the mind of a panther,
their strategy for hunting strategy is single out, stalk, ambush, while rarely chasing their prey for long
periods of time. Florida Panthers are mostly solitary animals, not relying on a pack to help them hunt

square miles of land, while females range much lesser than the males at 70 80 square miles. While
covering such a vast majority of land, Florida panthers rarely fight over territory (BCR,2016). The
historical range of this species occurred throughout 7 states consisting of southeastern United States.

Creation or Evolution of the Earth
Was it creation or evolution? That is the question that is more popular today than ever. There are many
different theories to the creation of the earth and the development of man. The big question is which
one was actually true. Scientists will tell you evolution is how man was created. Creationists or
Christians will tell you that creation was how man was created. Which group of people is right? There
is a bill in Texas State Congress over a new proposed set of guidelines for teaching biology in the
public school system. For the last twenty years state regulations have said whenever the theory of
evolution is. Sanded it is weakness should also be presented. However a new group of professors,
calling themselves The Twenty First Century Science Coalition, this group is calling for a change in
Texas state guidelines and all across America that would profit the mention of any weakness from
being discussed in the public classroom. The also further said any mention of weakness of Darwin s
theory of evolution would harm college students readiness and their ability to compete for jobs. I find
this a bit curious. Here are these people saying we can t even talk about the weakness of evolution.
Somehow this will keep kids from getting jobs and getting into college. It is not the whole purpose of
education to ask questions? Why is the adherence of evolution so adamant in saying we are not even
going to allow any of the weakness of our theory to be discussed? I think the reason is

Shakespeare forces the audience to connive with the villain when he addresses the audience. We see

The History Of Atomic Structure

The History of Atomic Structure For many years Greek philosophers were intrigued by the question of
what matter consists of(Lucretius 31). In the fifth century BC, Democritus was the first philosopher to
come up with a coherent atom theory. Based upon the reasoning that a stone can be split in half an
infinite number of times, he hypothesized that at some point the stone would be too small for the eye
to see. Democritus categorized such miniscule fragments of matter as atomos . Without experimental
evidence, Democritus guessed that atoms of all shapes are in continual motion. Such motion affords
the possibility of collisions in which atoms could attract or repel. Alterations in matter could be
counted for by these collisions. Democritus s original atomic theory had little impact on the world for
many years, due to its lack of evidence, and was rejected by another renowned philosopher, Aristotle (
Ancient Atomic Theory ). Following Democritus, Aristotle brought an opposing view on matter.
Aristotle correctly claimed that there are three states of matter, solid, liquid, and gas. Additionally, he
made the proposition that all matter springs from the four elements, earth, air, fire and water. Similarly
to Democritus, Aristotle had no experimental evidence. Democritus s and Aristotle s theories differ in
that Democritus stated that matter exists in atoms in a void, while Aristotle stated that all matter stems

Government Regulation In Brave New World
Science often sparks many debates because of its controversiality. The scientific advancements that
have occurred over the last few decades have received attention because of the funding and regulation
from the government that is required. Although some people support government regulation of
scientific advancements, others do not. Scientific advancements are the development of the natural
world and its surroundings that are meant to enhance life. Government regulation is control by
authorities to establish order. A totalitarian government is a government in which the state has

Although some believe that without government regulation, embryonic stem cell research and cloning
would do more harm than help, it is actually true that scientific advancements help more than they
harm. For instance, science has improved life and made it more efficient. Huxley portrays a dystopian
world where the government strongly regulates science, and as a result the society is stable, but at the
expense of true happiness. Lenina felt herself entitled, after this day of queerness and horror, to a
complete and absolute holiday. As soon as they got back to the rest house, she swallowed six half

(Huxley 149) Lenina is unable to cope without soma, a drug that relieves consumers of their emotions.
She will never be truly happy because of her dependence on soma and the government s tight grip on
the order of the World State. Huxley s use of satire to emphasize the impossibility of a utopia also
shows that government regulation can lead to their own downfall because of the absence of
individuality. Totalitarian government regulation is not necessary because it only hinders the
development of the society. Cloning is allowing scientists to make new discoveries

People are not forced to exercise so they could be equal with the stronger; rather the strong must equal
themselves by adding weights to make them weaker. This produces a sickly and depressing view of

The present constitution in the United Kingdom is unwritten. There has been much dispute as to
whether or not a written constitution, as implemented by many other countries such as France and the
United States of America, should also be adopted by the United Kingdom. The working mechanism of
government is conditioned by a system of procedures, which regulate on one level of the principle
organs of the state, whilst others govern the conduct of official business. Amid these usages are ones
that have the position of a convention. Lord Wilson describes these conventions as ...political
principles which regulate relations between the different parts of our constitution and the exercise of
power but which do not have legal force. Since they do not have legal force, certain questions emerge,
such as whether constitutional conventions should be codified, and whether their unclassified nature
would permit such alteration. This essay will consider the arguments of the codification of
constitutional conventions if a written constitution were to be implemented by the United Kingdom.
Reasons proposing and opposing codifying conventions will be considered, specifically focusing on
these foremost resolutions: legally enforcing codified conventions, allowing codified conventions to
be regarded as non legal rules, specify a selection of conventions to be codified, or quite simply leave
them as they are, uncodified. This analysis will outline the varied views on codifying conventions

Great Expectations Changes
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is a classic American novel. Great Expectations is about the
protagonist, Pip, and how he matures into a gentleman throughout the entire story. Pip s adventure
begins in in the foggy marshes of Kent, England when Pip was just a common boy. Pip grows from an
innocent child to an experienced gentleman. Pip s relationship with Magwitch changes throughout the
novel as Pip develops into a gentleman. At the beginning of the novel, Pip s relationship with
Magwitch haunts Pip, but their bond grows to be very beneficial and concrete for Pip. In the first stage
of Pip s great expectations, Pip meets Magwitch. While Pip is paying his respects to his parents in the
cemetery, a tattered and bruised convict approaches him. We can tell Pip is frightened by the way
Charles Dickens describes the setting as foggy. The fog is used to symbolize danger and uncertainty.
Pip is very scared, and when expressing his thoughts says, I was dreadfully frightened (Dickens 11.)
The convict, or Magwitch, tells Pip about the young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pip and Wemmick help Magwitch form an escape plan to avoid his arrest. As the boat for Magwitch s
escape comes into view, so does the police boat. Compeyson turned in Magwitch, and so Magwitch
begins to fight him. They swim out into the river, where Magwitch drowns Compeyson. Magwitch is
then arrested and put into jail. He loses his trial and is sentenced to death. But in the prison, Magwitch
falls ill. On the day of his death, Pip comforts Magwitch by telling him that his long lost daughter,
Estella, is alive and well. Pip shows how concrete his relationship with Magwitch is when he says, I
will never stir from your side, said I, when I am suffered to be near you. (Dickens 667.) This is a great
example of Pip and Magwitch s unique bond. Even though this bond proved to be very beneficial to
Pip, it was still a burden to

Atyotypical BCR-ABL Translocation
This paper is a short case study focused on a patient with an atypical BCR ABL translocation in CML.
The 80 year old male patient presented with a history of two months of worsening fatigue, weakness,
shortness of breath and weight loss. Blood tests showed mild anemia, normal platelets, and
leukocytosis with elevated myelocytes and metamyelocytes. The bone marrow aspirate showed a
hypercellular marrow with 90% myeloid cells, but no myeloblasts. A karyotype was performed on the
cells from the marrow aspirate; it revealed the Philadelphia chromosome translocation. This confirmed
the diagnosis of CML. Further PCR study was done on the patient s RNA and it revealed an atypical
band on the gel. This band was purified from the gel and sequenced. It revealed the rare presence of
the e1a3 BCR ABL exon combination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This absence predisposes the patient s cells to growth factor independence and therefore
transformation. Another aspect of the transformation of note is that the proliferation takes longer due
to slower leukemogenesis. This gives this disease an indolent course, which makes it particularly
difficult to detect. The patient in this case was put on 400mg of Imatinib daily. The CML responded
well to the treatment, the patient s blood and marrow studies normalized. However, after five months
the patient developed a lymphoid blast crisis. Bone marrow studies showed 94% lymphoid blast

The girls being so young were much more vulnerable to influences from the American culture, while
their parents specially Papi, were much more determined to keep in Dominican values. As the girls
began assimilating the culture, they got into more and more trouble for wanting to increasingly take on
the American ways. In some of their many experiences Fifi got in trouble for smoking, and Carla was
in trouble for using hair removal cream. Yolanda was put on the hot seat for bringing a book on the
female body into the house, and Sandi was reprimanded for not being back from a study session by the

United States, but they were direct violations of the Garcia family s roots and values. The girls,
however, were not the only ones with assimilation problems, like her daughters Mami wanted to play
a role in her new home; she was very unsatisfied with her recent transition from practically Dominican
royalty to an American middle class housewife. Laura begins inventing new household gadgets,

Urban Systems And The Urban Architecture
In this book Barnow specifically looks at the urban systems and the urban architecture in the antique
Greek world and the Roman Empire. The line of thought and the method to understand the two is
rather subjective. Barnow emphasizes that to understand a society the individual, other stakeholders
and the state, while it is necessary to read into its culture and tradition, it is first important to identify
the simple spatial order of the community. This would then lead to evidence of a surprisingly
organized association and the fact that there will be only a limited number of possible space/form
combinations that could fulfill the requirements of a given social order. To understand the varied
typologies of settlements, it is best to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While attempting to trace back a historical situation, it is important to realize that the aim of
identifying type characteristics is to understand the societal formation, while the form characteristics
help us to understand the national/ regional or any other specific character of the study area. Through
the course of this book, Barnow presents to the reader a number of archaeological findings in the form
of ground plans. Beginning with the Archaic Era, Barnow emphasizes the importance of this period in
understanding the Greek urban system. The formation of city states and the colonization period that
began towards the 8th century provide the best evidence of that era. In all the case studies, is it
Hellenistic period or the Classical Period, the importance of landscape in the birth and evolution of
new urban typologies is crucial to understand the city fabric. From the evidence provided based on
urban architecture principles and archaeological findings, a basis of the social and political systems at
that time maybe well understood. Through the extensive process of documentation across Ancient
Greece and Rome Barnow establishes a theoretical framework of the utilization of landscape by
societies through the ages and the ways in which these have made cultural statements (one can
comprehend this by studying the spatial arrangement, land

The Significant Effects Of Imperialism And Colonization...
Imperialism and colonization caused several effects around the world. Some of these effects have left
behind a legacy that goes on to this day. The continent of Africa was one of the most attractive areas to
colonize for Europe. In a time period between 1870 s and 1900 s Europe colonized Africa due to the
industrial revolution they distributed African lands in order to gain raw material. The lands within
Africa were distributed using the order of imperialism, each country required permission in order to
obtain the land. These lands were extremely useful because of the massive quantity of natural
resources such as gold, iron, cobalt etc. There were several distinguished countries during the
imperialism; a country that definitely holds legacy within several districts and regions of Africa is
Great Britain. A country largely affected by Great Britain and colonialism is my country Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe was under British jurisdiction from 1888 to 1979. The colonization of Zimbabwe began
when the British Statesmen Cecil Rhodes arrived in Zimbabwe with his British South African
Company. He did not squander anytime, he swiftly began taking authority of Zimbabwe. In the

Recently, however, competition has become stiffer and such large biotechnology firms as Genentech,
Amgen, and even Bristol Myers Squibb have begun to recognize the opportunities in SIVMED s
research lines. Because of this increasing competition, SIVMED s founders and board of directors
have concluded that the firm must apply state of the art techniques in its managerial processes as well
as in its technological processes. As a first step, the board directed the financial vice president, Gary
Hayes, to develop an estimate for firm s cost of capital and to use this number in capital budgeting
decisions. Haves, in turn, directed SIVMED s treasurer, Julie Owens, to have cost of capital estimate
on his desk in one week. Owens has an accounting background, and her primary task since taking over
as treasurer has been to deal with the banks. Thus, she is somewhat apprehensive about this new
assignment, especially since one of the board members is a well known Northwestern University
finance professor.

Carbon Dioxide Is Able To Influence Emissions
Carbon FRQ
a) Carbon is able to form covalent bonds with hydrogen and other atoms because it has four valence
electrons. Because carbon needs eight total electrons when its orbital is filled, it needs to form four
more bonds with other atoms. Also, since it is able to form bonds with four other atoms, carbon has
the potential to form single, double, or triple bonds.
b) The greenhouse effect refers to radiation from the sun as it warms the earth. This is caused by the
presence of several greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide being one of them. Carbon dioxide is formed
when carbon compounds undergo oxidation reactions. Carbon dioxide helps confine heat in the earth s

  • 2. The Sociological Theories Of Gender Development In Society Socialization happens over our interactions; however, it is not as simple as it may seem. A gender system occurs in every society. It is all about of all the ideas of female and male that are in a certain place at a certain time and all the values as regards who decides what, who does what, and how we feel ourselves and one another, mutually and independently. For this reason, there are too many gender researchers that study how we construct our life (for example, how we think, feel, interpret, etc.). Researches who came up with some theories about gender development, and we will be explaining them in this essay. According to the book Gendered lives by Julia T. Wood, a theory is a way to describe, explain, and predict relationships among phenomena. She also explains that each of us uses theories to make sense of our live, to guide our attitudes and actions, and to predict other s behavior (Julia T Wood, 37). With this intention, researches came up with four classifications of gender development and behaviors theories: biological, interpersonal, cultural and critical. Biological theories of gender maintain that biological characteristics such as chromosomes, hormonal activities and brain specialization account for gender differences (Julia T. Wood, 38). In other words, gender is determined by chromosomes and hormones. In fact, hormonal activity plays a big roll in gender development. For example, there is a study made by Quadango et al. (1977) that found that female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. L. M. Rosenblatt Summary and analysis of theory and research Over the last eight years, I have been a reading/literature teacher in a middle school composed of 6th through 8th grade. I find that my teaching style has evolved since finishing my undergraduate work due in part to the following theorists. A theoretical model by definition is an abstraction, or a generalized pattern devised in order to think about a subject (Rosenblatt, 1938). This was L. M. Rosenblatt s premise on literacy models, and one which I feel reflects my thought and feelings while writing this paper. Pioneers The theorist listed in this category could also be listed under the contemporaries. While she began her work many years ago, her work has continued to the present. She had ... Rosenblatt contends that we are always in a state of transaction. We are always changing and growing. Our socioculture changes to fit the needs of the school environment as needed. • 7. Epiphary In Katherine Mansfield s The Garden Party There are many reasons behind an author s story. Mainly it is to portray a message, give a good laugh, or explain a purpose, but the author will get their point across to their readers. In Katherine Mansfield s, The Garden Party, she focuses on a young, upperclass girl, with the name of Laura Sheridan. During the story, the Sheridan family is preparing to host a very lively garden party. Unfortunately for the circumstance, there has been a death in their community. The Scott family, who is of the middle class, had just lost their husband and their father. The wake for Mr. Scott just so happens to be during the time of the garden party. The separation of classes causes an unsettling act of sympathy from Laura. She can not decide whether to be on the right side or the wrong side of the situation. The death of Mr. Scott allows Laura Sheridan to experience an epiphany, as she encounters the difference s between the upper and middle classes, life and death, and a new perspective of life. Many people are often judged by their appearances, living arrangements, or income status. That is how the world views and classifies people to place them in a hierarchical stature. There were a few middle class workers hired to set up a marquee at the Sheridan house. Since Laura was considered to be the artistic one (EastoftheWeb 2) of her siblings, she was chosen to conduct the hired workers on where to set up the marquee. The symptoms of the disease are mainly caused by the death of dopamine producing cells in the midbrain. Dopamine is an important neurotransmitter that, among other things, is responsible for playing a role in how the brain controls bodily movements. Parkinson s disease produces both motor symptoms and nonmotor symptoms. There are four cardinal motor symptoms of Parkinson s: tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia (slow movements), and postural instability. Tremor is the most obvious symptom of Parkinson s, as well as the most common. The tremor is uncontrollable and is most noticeable when the limb is at rest; when the limb is in use, the tremor disappears. Often times, the tremor only affects the hand or foot on one side of the body, but it can eventually become bilateral. Rigidity is characterized as stiffness and resistance to movement in the limbs. The arms, legs, face, and back are areas commonly affected. Early on, rigidity can cause joint pain, often in the shoulder. Bradykinesia is one of the most common symptoms of Parkinson s. It is described as slowness and difficulty in initiating and making movements, especially repetitive movements and fine motor skills, such as writing. Bradykinesia greatly affects the ability of the Parkinson s sufferer to perform common activities of daily life, like getting dressed. According to Nolden (2015), postural instability is the imbalance and loss of righting reflexes. This is usually a symptom that shows up in the late stages of Parkinson s. Postural instability is linked with high rates of hip fractures in people with Parkinson s disease, due to increased falls. It provides quick and extensive access to a large distribution network of retail and corporate customers, lowering distribution costs (the same goes for option 3.3., which also brings Lenovo contact with IBM s network) o option 3.2. keeps Lenovo isolated in the home market o option 3.4. would bring with it a small distribution network, proportionate to the small size of the LG laptop division. o option 3.5. might mean a possibly large network, but, as it is in another production sector, so it could not be easily coupled with Lenovo s existing one. He also cannot erase what he has done to cope with this, most of his scars from self harming can even be permanent , and the guilt, or reminder of doing so, will always be there then, marked upon his skin. That s 144 people every day, 52,620 people every year. And every day, 18 people die because there aren t enough organs to go around. That is 6,570 people dying every year because they have waited too long for an organ transplant [All About Donation]. There has to be some way to prevent these innocent people from dying, and there is a way. Pretend for a moment that you re in a room full of very sick people who need to be treated with medicine. Unfortunately, the room that you re in does not have enough medicine. What do you do? You get more medicine from somewhere else. So how do we save people who need an organ ... These are just a couple of examples from other various articles who also support legalizing organ sales. It doesn t take a rocket scientist to realize that it would rescue those needing organ transplants. We shouldn t outlaw something that can potentially save thousands of lives each year. It isn t right to prevent this from happening. The sale of organs is a very ethically controversial issue though. It is viewed as disrespecting to the human body, degrading it into nothing but a product. It would take away the beauty of the beautiful and amazing anatomical structure that it is. But isn t it just as, if not more, disrespectful and degrading to let an innocent human being die? That s an innocent person with an incredible life ahead them that you have just taken away. • 16. Utilitarianism, Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism There are several theories that try to explain the morality of the actions; however, two stand out. the first is deontology, and the other one is utilitarianism. The former follow the idea that the consequences of you action hold no importance in what we ought to do. But rather, some actions are morally wrong or good by itself. The latter follows an opposite view in which the consequences of an action are what it makes an action moral. Specially, if that action produce the greatest happiness over unhappiness. In this essay I will focus on two Utilitarianism ramifications, act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. They both agree that consequences must be the greatest factor in deciding what we ought to do. Nonetheless they have one big difference. Rule Utilitarianism generalize acts and recreate the consequences of a rule. If the consequences are ultimately favoring, then it is morally right. By way of contrast, Act Utilitarianism evaluate each action individually, and similar situation would have different outcomes depending on the situation. There is no universal rule unlike rule utilitarianism. In order to determine how different, the act and rule utilitarianism are, I will analyze it by applying them in the following scenario. Mrs. Linde as a Foil for Nora in A Doll s House Random House Webster s dictionary defines a foil as a person or thing that makes another seem better by contrast. This essay will focus on the use of the foil to contrast another character. The characters of Nora and Mrs. Linde provide an excellent example of this literary device. Mrs. Linde s aged, experienced personality is the perfect foil for Nora s childish nature. Mrs. Linde s hard life is used to contrast the frivolity and sheltered aspects of Nora s life. Nora s optimism and belief in things improbable is an opposite to the rationality and down to earth mentality of Mrs. Linde. Then I could hang the bills in pretty gilt paper on the Christmas tree. Wouldn t that be fun? (Ibsen 77 87) Mrs. Linde is the perfect foil for Nora as can be evidenced with the following excerpt from lines 297 301. Mrs. Linde s self sacrifice for her closest loved ones is atypical of those without the utmost maturity. Mrs. Linde married a man she did not love for the purpose of security: Nora: ...is it really true that you weren t in love with your husband? Why did you marry him then? Mrs. Linde: My mother was still alive, but bedridden and helpless and I had my two younger brothers to look after. In all conscience, I didn t think I could turn him down. Evidence of Mrs. Linde s hard life can be seen in the conversation occurring between herself and Doctor Rank, a friend of the Helmer s. In contrast to Nora s life of little trouble and frivolity, Mrs. Linde has worn herself out, both mentally and physically: Mrs. Linde: Yes, I take the stairs very slowly. They re rather hard on me. People felt disadvantaged and unequal, causing reform groups to form and government policies to be instated. These are known as Populism, Progressivism, and the New Deal. Although they are similar in some ways, they are also different. Populism, or the People s Party, was formed for many economic reasons. Most of the agrarian society felt as if they were not equal to bigger industries (Brinkley 449 451). Railroad services charged small farmers more for shipping rates and bigger industries less. The farmers claimed that railroad services fixed their rates because they would cut deals with the bigger businesses. Populists also wanted a reform of currency (455). The offside pass or two line pass rule was removed; requiring a stoppage in play if a pass originating from the defensive team was completed on the offensive side of the center line. Reinstating the tag up offside, this advantage allows an attacking player to get back onside by returning to the neutral zone. Changes to the offside rule were intended to increase overall scoring. At this moment, former President Adams (an opponent to President Andrew Jackson) chose to openly oppose slavery. The Democrats said that a party that united northern and southern rights into a states rights, limited government majority could guarantee states rights within the Union. This statement answered the questions that arose during the Missouri debates: how do you protect the slave holding South within the federal Union. Martin Van Buren believed the alternative to this agenda, the isolation of the slaveholding south, would lead to moral danger of the republic. This led to the baby boom of 1945 1960s where there was an abundance of youths in the 1950s. In the 50s there were almost 100 babies born a minute putting a threat to over population (Howell.G, 1975). From this, the teenager was invented (Kotarba J A, 2012) where many different subcultures had formed, each with individual styles and influenced by figures in film, music and TV. Glossy fashion magazines such as Vogue and Seventeen were also becoming very popular so youths were able to easily see what the future held for trends and what clothes they should and shouldn t be wearing. Teenage girls and boys were now recognised as a new consumer and when designers started to realise this they set up boutiques inside department stores (Buxbaum.G, 1999). They sold simpler designs at cheaper prices where the younger generation were able to create their own style rather than copying their parents, for example ranges of clothes would come out specifically targeted at young girls for dances where they would have a large choice in dresses to buy. British teenagers had twice as much money to spend on what they liked compared to their parents (Breward.C, 1999). • 25. Analysis Of Shane Koyczan And Many Artists To this day is a spoken word poem and video illustration by Shane Koyczan and many artists. It was created in 2013 with the purpose of effectively spreading the convincing message that bullying is a real and serious thing that is too often dismissed as normal and not acted upon as the serious thing it is. 2013 was shortly after the new large push against bullying which is likely one large reason as to the creation and popularity of this work. However even with the anti bullying movement it would not have become popular if it was not in itself an effective piece at conveying its own point against bullying and contributing to the cause. Koyczan made his piece so successful by successfully using ethos and pathos to make hard hitting grounded points to his purpose. He also used small amounts of logos but it was not a majorly effective part of his piece. Ethos is the way the writer creates a persona that allows the audience to see them as trustworthy, relatable, knowledgeable, and as someone with authority. Then uses these to convince an audience of their point. This is use of ethos effectively done in the creation of koyczan s poem to this day . He shows his reliability and knowledge to the viewer by showing them that he has personal experience with the main topic. That year the teacher had decided to use the song Happiness from the Broadway musical You re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. While it was not a very good rendition of the piece, it stayed with me throughout the years. For a long time I believed that happiness could be found in objects, in buying plastic things that I would throw away a year later. But the song s catchy and meaningful lyrics stayed in the back of my mind, providing me with a gentle reminder that my happiness did not necessarily have to come from owning things. Despite popular belief, happiness is not something that is bought. Happiness is not palpable. Up until a year ago, I believed that in order to be truly happy a person had to have massive amounts of money and materialistic products that did nothing to make them happy. Though that may be the case for some, I found that happiness is not often found in the amount of clothes a person has, or the price tag of their home or car. Happiness is not measured in dollars, or how many properties a person owns, or even how much their house is worth. Happiness, to me, is a feeling that is found in people, memories and moments. The Preface of A Man for All Season, states that the play is not a straight forward narration, though more comparable to a poem. (Bolt, 1960:xvii). The Common Man comments on the action and characters in numerous asides as well as change costume on stage and indicates the locations. The asides extend the idea that The Common man s moral character is not so detached from society s, by removing himself from the actions he is able to conveniently disassociates himself from More s supposed treasonous acts. Iago s substantial use of asides also reveals his cleverness; he is able to not only direct but also to remark on the action of the play. Iago speaks his soliloquies before Othello, this draws the audience into his point of view. Iago s use of soliloquies supports his power of words. Shakespeare forces the audience to connive with the villain when he addresses the audience. We see Othello through Iago s narration. The opposition between Iago and Othello supports the idea of a foreign moor being positioned higher than a white Venison. When taking into consideration the point of view established by Iago, it is clear that Shakespeare was highly influenced by the global controversy over racial differences and origin during the Renaissance (Vaughan, 1996:5). The History Of Atomic Structure Eliza Abrams Mrs. Baldwin Honors Chem ⅘ 24 November 2015 The History of Atomic Structure For many years Greek philosophers were intrigued by the question of what matter consists of(Lucretius 31). In the fifth century BC, Democritus was the first philosopher to come up with a coherent atom theory. Based upon the reasoning that a stone can be split in half an infinite number of times, he hypothesized that at some point the stone would be too small for the eye to see. Democritus categorized such miniscule fragments of matter as atomos . Without experimental evidence, Democritus guessed that atoms of all shapes are in continual motion. Such motion affords the possibility of collisions in which atoms could attract or repel. Alterations in matter could be counted for by these collisions. Democritus s original atomic theory had little impact on the world for many years, due to its lack of evidence, and was rejected by another renowned philosopher, Aristotle ( Ancient Atomic Theory ). Following Democritus, Aristotle brought an opposing view on matter. Aristotle correctly claimed that there are three states of matter, solid, liquid, and gas. Additionally, he made the proposition that all matter springs from the four elements, earth, air, fire and water. Similarly to Democritus, Aristotle had no experimental evidence. Democritus s and Aristotle s theories differ in that Democritus stated that matter exists in atoms in a void, while Aristotle stated that all matter stems from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although some believe that without government regulation, embryonic stem cell research and cloning would do more harm than help, it is actually true that scientific advancements help more than they harm. For instance, science has improved life and made it more efficient. Huxley portrays a dystopian world where the government strongly regulates science, and as a result the society is stable, but at the expense of true happiness. Lenina felt herself entitled, after this day of queerness and horror, to a complete and absolute holiday. As soon as they got back to the rest house, she swallowed six half gramme tablets of soma, lay down on her bed, and within ten minutes had embarked for lunar eternity (Huxley 149) Lenina is unable to cope without soma, a drug that relieves consumers of their emotions. She will never be truly happy because of her dependence on soma and the government s tight grip on the order of the World State. Huxley s use of satire to emphasize the impossibility of a utopia also shows that government regulation can lead to their own downfall because of the absence of individuality. Totalitarian government regulation is not necessary because it only hinders the development of the society. Cloning is allowing scientists to make new discoveries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There has been much dispute as to whether or not a written constitution, as implemented by many other countries such as France and the United States of America, should also be adopted by the United Kingdom. The working mechanism of government is conditioned by a system of procedures, which regulate on one level of the principle organs of the state, whilst others govern the conduct of official business. Amid these usages are ones that have the position of a convention. Lord Wilson describes these conventions as ...political principles which regulate relations between the different parts of our constitution and the exercise of power but which do not have legal force. Since they do not have legal force, certain questions emerge, such as whether constitutional conventions should be codified, and whether their unclassified nature would permit such alteration. This essay will consider the arguments of the codification of constitutional conventions if a written constitution were to be implemented by the United Kingdom. Reasons proposing and opposing codifying conventions will be considered, specifically focusing on these foremost resolutions: legally enforcing codified conventions, allowing codified conventions to be regarded as non legal rules, specify a selection of conventions to be codified, or quite simply leave them as they are, uncodified.
