Morgan Freeman Mentor
Tennessee born actor Morgan Freeman often plays the role of a mentor or father figure. This can be
seen in numerous films starring Freeman, including, An Unfinished Life, Last Knights, Lean on Me,
The Magic of Belle Isle, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. In all of these films, he is a mentor to at
least one person who has lost a father. However, although he has been pigeonholed as the mentor,
Freeman is capable of portraying a wide variety of characters, and demonstrates this in the
aforementioned films as well as others. In Last Knights, London has Fallen, Dreamcatcher, and Lean
on Me, Freeman s characters Lord Bartok, Allan Trumball, Colonel Curtis, and Joe Clark are strong
leaders who refuse to submit to opposition. Although these characters ... Show more content on

Freeman plays the role accordingly, saying his lines in a stereotypical, strong black dialect akin to
Uncle Remus from Song of the South, with the noticeable quirk of pronouncing the letter r with two
syllables. Freeman s delivery in this manner helps emphasize Hoke s lack of education in English
suggested by the grammatical structure of his lines. He maintains a calm countenance throughout most
of the film, showing that, like Red, he is acclimated to his circumstances, but his tone is jollier,
reflecting Hoke s optimism in contrast to Red s more solemn

Women s Reproductive Rights 1800s
Women across the U.S. were fighting for reproductive rights. The fight was intense due to women not
being able to do decisions for themselves. Since the beginning of civilization, women were expected
to produce children from marriage to menopause, in a constant battle to birth more children than died
in utero, in infancy, or of childhood disease. The birth and mortality rates were so high that women
had to have a stop to it. American white women were considered to be the ones having the most
children. In 1800 American women were bearing an average of 7.04 children; 5.21 in 1860; and 3.56
in 1900. During this time the rates were so high because the typical women of the household was
supposed to be the one at home cleaning, cooking, taking

North Carolina Historic Landmarks
The Great Smoky Mountains a border between Tennessee and North Carolina, and the Blue Ridge
mountain with the bluish color when seen from the distance, is by far, one of the most impressive
places in the United States.
The North Carolina Historic Landmarks from plantations, battleships, lighthouses or museums are part
of the history of this great state.
The Battle of Bentonville, Bethania Historic District, the Biltmore Estate, The Blackwell and
Company Tobacco Factory. Without forgetting about the great USS North Carolina (battleship)
The different plantations, like: Cooleemee Plantation, the Coolmore Plantation and the Hayes

Inventing A Writing Technology Essay examples
Inventing A Writing Technology
According to Walter Ong, an influential scholar of the relationship between technology and media,
Literacy is imperious. It tends to arrogate to itself supreme power by taking itself as normative for
human expression and thought. This is particularly true in high technology cultures, which are built on
literacy of necessity and which encourage the impression that literacy is an always to be expected and
even natural state of affairs (316). Ong would probably agree that literacy is so embedded in our
current technological culture that it has become part of the standard of living, a necessary requirement
for functioning in this highly professionalized world. However, the point of Ong s prior statement ...

Portability was described as the extent to which the text could be moved or carried. Nature referred to
the extent to which the materials used in creating the text and/or writing surface were found in nature
and not manufactured or highly processed. During this experiment, I tried to consider what completely
natural materials I could find. I resorted to using materials found in my backyard including rocks, dirt,
sand, sticks, grass, and leaves. The permanence criterion of the assignment narrowed my choices by
eliminating writing in the dirt, sand, or mud or with grass or leaves. Wind or rain would erase any
writing created using these materials. The issue of portability further narrowed my decision to use a
small, hand held, sharp rock to scrape or chisel words into a larger stone which was able to be carried.
The stone needed to have a writing surface large enough to chisel words but not so large that it could
not be easily transported. All in all, inventing a technology which was creative was somewhat of a
problem when considering permanence and portability and was overlooked as a criterion.
Although the solution to the assignment may sound easy, the creation process was actually very
challenging. One reason may be that Oral speech is fully natural to human beings in the sense that
every human being in every culture who is not physiologically or psychologically impaired learns to
talk (Ong, 322). In U.S. culture, oral speech and writing are

Increasing Legal Driving Age
Teenagers have the highest crash rate when driving, but changing the age will not impact the amount
of crashes happening by new drivers. If the legal driving age is increased, crashes will still happen
because of new drivers and the only thing different will be the word used to describe the people
crashing. Instead of teenager it will be young adult. This won t affect the likelihood of a person
crashing, or how well someone drives. If the age that a driver can legally get behind the wheel in a
vehicle is increased, doing so won t change the ability one has to drive. Most crashes occur because of
inexperience and bad judgement, all of which are teachable. The main way to learn how to drive is to
actually drive a car. Increasing legal age is

The Characteristics Of Aliens In Avatar And District 9
In the films Avatar and District 9, which were both released in 2009, there are stereotypical elements
of the science fiction genre. By discussing humanity towards aliens, a reliance on an advance in
technology, the use of corporate giants as a controlling forces as well as moral and emotional
manipulation, this essay will prove to a large extent that District 9 and Avatar have evolved past
typical science fiction films. However, it will also prove how District 9 has continued to evolve and
therefore is more evolved as a science fiction film than Avatar.
In Avatar and District 9, the initial interaction between the humans and the aliens revealed the true
characteristics of the aliens. For example, in District 9, this scene involved very poor ... Show more

In Avatar, humans use their advanced technology to travel to another planet to obtain precious
elements. The power of the technology is shown as Jake first lands on Pandora. His point of view is
shot at a low angle to the futuristic buildings and machinery, indicating man s inferiority without
technology. In this film, man is dependent on their advanced technology in order to ensure their
superiority over the aliens. This therefore provides an obvious difference between the two

The Flappers Of The 1920 s
Roaring Twenties. The end of WW1 resulted in a new era in which people with money wanted to
enjoy themselves. The U.S economy was booming, profits were increased, resulting in the Roaring
Twenties. The events of WW1 had left many young women disillusioned and led them to question
traditional morality and values which resulted in the rebellious behavior of the Flappers (Henderson).
The increase in leisure time provided people the ability to dance, and listen to the up and coming jazz.
The Flappers of the 1920 s represented Modernism and typified the clash of values and the changing
status of women of the new era. Most women in the 1920s, not just the young Flappers, abandoned
traditional, restrictive women s clothes, such as long dresses and tight corsets, to free themselves of
the shackles of the Victorian era. The free spirited Flappers cut their hair, listened to jazz and
scandalized the older generation (Bode 134). The independent and unconventional attitudes of the
Flappers challenged the traditional ideas by wearing short skirts, bobbed hairstyles, make up and
cosmetics. Flappers began drinking and smoking in public and became more promiscuous during the
1920 s.
Women were much more than just staying home with their kids and doing house work. They become
independent both financially and literally. They worked hard for the same or greater equality as men.
All this brought them much much closer to their goal. In the 1920 s the term flapper referred to a new

Free Bowling Game Pass
Scotch Doubles Prize: Free Bowling Game Pass
How it Works
Bowler 1 throws the first shot in the first frame. If he strikes, the first frame is complete and his
teammate bowls the second frame. If Bowler 1 doesn t strike, Bowler 2 must get up to shoot the spare.
Bowler 1 would then throw the first shot again in the second frame.
It doesn t matter what the pin count from either bowler is throughout the game. It s as simple as the
two teammates alternating shots until the game is over.
To bowl a perfect 300 game in scotch doubles, each bowler will throw six of the strikes, alternating
each time.
Conversely, if Bowler 1 never strikes, then Bowler 2 will spend the entire game throwing at spares.
Not surprisingly, in almost every case, the order switches during the game. While it would be ideal for
teammates to simply alternate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bakers Team Prize: Bowling Pin Trophy
What is The Baker Format?
In a Baker Format game, you and your teammates will bowl toward one score. That is, rather than a
typical league format in which you and your teammates each bowl 10 frames and your team score is
the sum of each individual score, your entire team will combine to bowl 10 frames in a Baker match.
With five person teams, the first bowler will bowl frames 1 and 6. The second bowler will bowl
frames 2 and 7 and so on, with your fifth bowler bowling frames 5 and 10.
5 man teams per lane come up with a team name and enter that name as the bowler. Pick the order
each person will go. That will determine what frame each individual will bowl. Example: Bob, Sally,
Jane, Fred, and Mike. Bob will bowl the 1st and 6th frame, Sally will bowl the 2nd and 7th frame,
Jane will bowl the 3rd and 8th frame, Fred will bowl the 4th and 9th frame, and Mike will bowl the
5th and 10th frame.
The team with the highest game throughout all the lanes will

The Was The Messiah A Little Differently Than Jesus
The Jews pictured the Messiah a little differently than Jesus. Some Jews could have missed Jesus if
you had picture painted of what you thought the Messiah would be like, you might end up passing
them by. the Jews had already made up their minds of who the Messiah was going to be, therefore,
they missed who He actually was, along with the message that He brought. Now knowing this, it s
easier to understand the reasoning behind why the Jews may have denied Jesus as the Messiah. The
Messiah the jew were looking for, was the anointed one, similar to the Messiah. Instead, they were
looking for an all powerful ruler/ political leader, or king that would show up in a fancy manor, and

A Political Cartoon Analysis
Having a Master s degree would be nice. After completing 4 years of college and then going back for
a master s degree and graduating with that is an amazing accomplishment. There is so man benefits
that come with this high degree, more money, better jobs, and more education in the particular work
field as the masters. Let s get this straight, though, going back for a master s degree costs a lot of
money. Just to get a bachelor s degree cost a lot of money so going back to college for more years will
cost a lot more. That s the only downfall of getting a master s degree, the price. In the political cartoon
about a master s degree, the author makes it clear of the downfall of getting that degree which is the
price. He uses color, layout, and characters to make this point very clear. The first notice of this
picture is the color of it. It is not in pretty colors whatsoever. It is two colors, black and white. When
people see black and gray, most people think about back in the day when times were tough and money
was scarce. The black part of the picture brings out the gloom ... Show more content on

proven. When looking at the cartoon, there is a big hand coming from the top right corner, on the

This chain is handcuffed to the graduate s hand symbolizing that the graduate is stuck and will not be
going anywhere. Also in the photo, the graduate is holding a diploma, but instead of it saying
congratulations, it says DEBT written across it. This depicts that the graduate, since going for a master
s degree, is now in debt. These objects in the image make it very clear that getting a master s degree
will cost a lot of money. The last rhetorical element that proves the author s point is the characters in

We are well within the one week countdown mark to possibly one of the most hyped series of Doctor

lots of monsters, mystery and adventure. Also with the important point of it being another Moffat

So, what makes Series 9 that much more gripping, even before it airs? What have got Whovians the

However, the majority of the episodes weren t even originally written for a Doctor of Peter s ilk,
which was never really publicised at the time, so the majority didn t know. They were all Matt Smith

if in certain episodes he was one way, then the next few he was something else. It was a jumbled
characterisation at the time.
That is all change this year, as it truly is the time of the Twelfth Doctor. The scripts have been

Summary Of Bruce Springsteen s Born To Run
The 1970 s, filled with unraveling American society and global uncertainty, spawned many of music s
greatest artists. One of these artists was Bruce Springsteen, who has paved the way for the rock genre
since his 1975 album, Born to Run. While global issues continued at the hands of politicians, no one
quite captured the average Americans issues like Bruce Springsteen s Born to Run. Preformed and
composed entirely by Springsteen, with primary producer Jon Landau and incredible accompaniment
by the wide range E Street Band, the album flawlessly depicted normal Americans problems with the
decaying American dream and crumbling ideals. Bruce Springsteen, through insightful lyrics and
instrumentation, successfully and emotionally showcased common American ideals through his Born
to Run album. Before his successful breakout album, Springsteen endured the uncertain and unstable
society created in the wake of World War II. The United States, in the midst of Cold War tensions on a
global scale, faced domestic challenges as social reform movements protested for natural rights and
American troop removal from Vietnam ( Modern America ). On the musical side of American society,
deaths of influential artists, such as legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix and blues singer Janis
Joplin, and the demise of the 1960s counterculture soured the entrance into the 1970s. Born in a
struggling working class New Jersey in late 1949, Springsteen observed the nature of blue collar life
first hand through his family, despite the increase of affluent, suburban life ( Springsteen s Born to
Run ). These early life experiences influenced Springsteen s songwriting themes and provided an
escape through music. Although Springsteen had established his musical career before 1975, he had
yet to achieve commercial success ( Springsteen, Bruce ). Destined to become the next icon in the
rock genre, Columbia Records allowed Springsteen one final attempt to create a profitable record (
Springsteen, Bruce ). Joined by his E Street Band, which included keyboardists Roy Brittan and
Danny Federici, bassist Garry Tallent, backup guitarist Steven Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg,
and 1950 s R B influenced saxophonist Clarence Clemons, Springsteen set out to

How Rituals Permit the Practice of Worship in Hinduism Essay
Ritual is a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a
prescribed order. Hinduism major religious and cultural tradition of the Indian subcontinent,
developed from Vedic religion.. There are two types of worship such as: temple worship and domestic
worship. Therefore, within these types of worshipping there are rituals that are performed. Some of
these rituals include prasad, darshan, and puja. Thus, A ritual function is a tradition that is used to

Second, darshan is part of the tradition when Hindus make a pilgrimage or visit to the temple. Darshan
is the seeing and being seen by the deity in the temple or by a holy teacher and the experience of
beholding with faith. (Oxtoby p.320) Also, according to Lucy Du Pertuis, darshan means sight of the
deity or the guru who embodies him/her, usually for the purpose of imbibing his/her divine powers or
grace.
Third, domestic worship also known as puja is a significant way for Hindus to express their devotion.
Domestic worship is when Hindus express their devotion to a deity or spiritual teacher is through
rituals performed in the household. According to the Oxtoby: Daily puja typically consists of simple
acts in which all family members can take part, such as lighting oil lamps, and incense sticks, reciting
prayers, or offering food to the deity. (Oxtoby p.300) Many of the domestic rituals are more
particularized towards females of the households. In India, women gather around on fixed days to
celebrate the goddess by fasting and feasting. Moreover, the women would consist of performing
rituals for happiness of the whole clan. As an example, in

held were: She s an adult, she should know better, This makes me shrink, I hate feeling like I m less,
and She s overvaluing her position in the family. Ellis then asks us to dispute those irrational beliefs
and see where holding them gets us (Engler, 2009. I realized that by holding her to the standard that
she is an adult and should know better does not mean that she really does know better. It can be
helpful to understand that not every adult is at the same place of emotional maturity, and learn those

The Graduate Film Analysis
The Graduate, a film directed by Mike Nichols in 1976, is a film that has influenced the way I view
the world. It is a story of a college graduate, Benjamin Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman), who
finds himself trapped in the superficial or plastic world around him. Because of this, he feels trapped,
depressed, and insecure about his future. This makes him an easy target for Mrs. Robinson (played by
Anne Bancroft), the middle aged cougar and wife of his father s business partner. At Ben s Graduation
party, Mrs. Robinson manipulates Ben into driving her home and coming into her daughter s bedroom,
supposedly to look at her daughter s picture, where she appears before him naked offering herself to
him. Ben refuses her at first, but when Ben feels like he cannot escape the pressure of his future, he
decides to start an affair with Mrs. Robinson as a way to mentally escape. Ben continues to meet Mrs.
Robinson at night until he realizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this film Ben feels lost, he doesn t have a plan for his future or any motivation to make one now
that he is out of college. Ben is also stressed because now he has to decide and provide for himself. He
is now an adult and can no longer sit back depend on his parents to provide money and a goal for him.
Understanding this has made me set an ultimate goal for my future and has also encouraged me to
mentally prepare to live life with out as much dependence on my parents. College is a place where
young adults are sent off to grow academically and as an independent individual. However, college
should not be our final goal. After college it is necessary to still have goals and not give up. What Ben
does not understand is that even though his goal was to excel in college and make his parents proud,
now he must move on and make wise decisions that enhance, not hurt, what he can make of his

Miss Peregrine s Home For Peculiar Children
Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children is a science fiction novel that was presented to the
reading world in 2011 by Ransom Riggs. This year the characters of Riggs s novel made their way to
the big screen under the direction of Tim Burton. While critics rave about the wonders of Burton s
skills to transform the novel into a believable reality, I have some other views. My views dig past the
screen and break apart the struggles and decisions Burton made while directing. While I agree with
Hoffman, who noted this film is Tim Burton s best in 20 years (2016), there are some scenes that left
me confused and upset. To begin breaking down the adaptation, it must first be placed in a category.
This category tells us which form of adaptation it is and what we can expect under these
circumstances. I, personally, categorize this as a pluralist adaptation. During my screening of the film,
I spent a good chunk of my time looking for the analogies and similarities between the two. This made
it much easier to pick out the differences that lead me to conclude that the adaptation was pluralist in
nature. I also noticed how the film stuck quite closely to the novel s spirit, this made the film more
inviting and accurate. Riggs himself said in an interview that [Burton] took the ideas I had and made
them bigger and more vibrant than I d imagined (Riggs, 2016). Another characteristic of the film that
made it a pluralist adaptation is how much it exists as its own production; yet many

The Importance Of Winning The Grand Slam
People love others to recognize their accomplishments. In the military, people wear their
accomplishments in medals on their jackets. The greatest honor for a scientist is to win the prestigious
Nobel Prize. For Tennis, one of the highest goals is to win the Grand Slam, The term ... first used in
1933 by the American journalist John Kieran (Wood). The Grand Slam consists of four tournaments:
Australia Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. There are several events: singles, men

The English began their championship 1877, oldest of all four and even the world. They began

sticks with traditional grass tennis courts. They saved the best for last, or maybe it s just my bias as an
American but the Us Open is the last event of the Grand Slam. The tournament started competing in
Newport, Rhode Island in 1881. Through the years, it transitioned to Queens, New York in the late
1970s; only two years after the tournament adopted its present name. It actually was elsewhere in the
state of New York before calling New York City its home. Another interesting thing about the US

Australia Open. A tennis player or players might win one Slam but they must win all four to achieve
the honor of winning the Grand Slam. They must be able to play on different turfs and in different

Anna Karenina Essay
In Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy presents marriage in a realistic sense, marriage is not an easy
institution; couples must work through the rough patches in order for it to be strong; he also presents
passion as a force that can have a positive influence, but simultaneously presents passion as a factor
that can have a corrupting power on a person s life. These two couples, Levin and Kitty and Vronsky
and Anna, are compared throughout the course of the novel. Levin and Kitty differ from Anna and
Vronsky because they do not communicate in the same ways. Kitty and Levin try to resolve issues as
they arise, so that they do not create a bigger issue. Another difference is that Ann and Vronsky are
sheltered from society because of Anna s position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are completely open with each other, no matter how difficult the subject is to talk about. Anna
and Vronsky are completely different with respect to their communication. They are described as
having a dark and powerful spiritual bond (Merezhlevosky, pg.772). Because their relationship is
based solely on love, it is harder for them to communicate effectively. Rather than take the time to
solve a problem, Anna and Vronsky blame each other for the problems. Anna is described as getting
more and more heated and thereby betraying the cause of her irritation (pg.326). Anna simply gets
angry and as a result cannot have a conversation with Vronsky. This is quite different from the Anna
we are introduced to early on in the novel. She is portrayed as a sweet, charming woman. This kind of
attitude is not at all what is expected of Anna. Vronsky is does not handle situations well either. At one
point in an argument, Vronsky leaves. He is described as having announced his departure (pg.584).
Unlike Kitty and Levin, Anna and Vronsky try to avoid each other when an issue comes up.
Because of Anna s position as a fallen woman, she and Vronsky lead rather different social lives than
do Kitty and Levin. As Anna and Vronsky s relationship develops and becomes public, their
interactions with society become dulled. At one point, Anna wishes to go to the theatre; however

The Mind Is An Action
The Great Ideals
The exploration of the mind is an action. To explore and think of new ideas is another worldly concept
that can be achieve by anyone. Ideas of one s own is a creation that can be utilized throughout history.
In the present, scholars and professors utilize works from great thinkers whom put into perspective
different ways to view the world that one lives in. From allegories to theories of the body, all great
thinkers have a mind that is different, in which contributes to the world for further use and

center of thought that attempts to counter the pleasures of the sensual life (Jacobus 866). Plato has
entered minds throughout nations, displaying a question of enlightenment based off one s senses and
how one s perceive them.
To add on, Plato s cave is seen in many forms of depictions. Individuals have given many definitions
to what his allegory is portraying. In short, it is man in a cave with no view of the outside light and is
set to have his life perceived by mere shadows. Morris explains, The shadows are what the prisoners
deem to be real, so they must stand for what we deem to be real (418). Plato classifys the cave s world
as the Lower World , meaning no act of wisdom is inside for all man knows is one place. Plato also
classify s the outside world as the Upper World as being the world of wisdom or enlightenment. As his
allegory precedes, the man finds his way out and sees the Upper World first hand. When viewing what
he does not know leads him to find that this is the truth and everyone in that cave should hear of it.

selected working men and women throughout the state of Mississippi. Interviewees were asked a
certain set of questions dealing with golf etiquette, business golf as a sales tactic, and whether or not it
is beneficial or just a game. Secondary research was conducted through electronic searches.
Findings
Golf etiquette is not the first thing that comes to mind when making a sale or taking on a new
clientele. Companies have used it for years, however, to forge personal relationships with clients. It is
an impeccable way to learn traits about a potential client in a casual setting, without even talking

Most people would turn down a four hour meeting if just asked to sit at the office.
Eurich (2014) also states that one of the biggest problems with business golf is when individuals in
sales pass up the chance to network with potential clients by declining the invitation to play. Some let
their personal golfing ability be the deciding factor of this opportunity, when in reality the level of
play is not the focal point. Hill (2014) furthers this point by mentioning that if the opponent is not as
good of a golfer as most, not to torment or make fun of him. Giving encouragement instead of offering
lessons is the correct move in this situation in order to not make him or her feel inferior to the rest.
Success in business golf is about respect, not the score.
How Golf and Business Correlate
Quinn Thomas (2014) speak from personal experience as they address business golf when they say
that the relation between business tactic and the game of golf is very strong although most people
overlook it. Professional golfer, Cary Middlecoff, as cited by Quinn Thomas (2014) expresses that
many golfers cost themselves strokes by not playing to their strengths. If they do not pick the correct

In the beginning, we were undecided on which would a be great place to start to observe without
looking suspicious. Therefore, I choose the Loggerhead Sea Turtles (Caretta caretta) that swam in the
same tank as some baby sharks. The reason why I picked this particular section out of the entire
aquarium was because it had the most beautiful creature that caught your eyes as you walked by. The
Loggerhead sea turtle was a must picture taking while posing in front of the glass exhibit. The

course you could stand to lose a few pounds. This was said by an individual struggling with bulimia.
The public is presented with thin, tall, muscular, and perfectly fit people in the media such as
magazines or television shows, making people with a more natural body image feel insecure and
unpleased with their body type. The media is promoting body stereotypes and it is negatively affecting
the public. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may
negatively affect the male population. Body stereotyping in the media can lead to body dysmorphia.
Body dysmorphia is common among the younger generation because they are more adept at using
social media. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may
negatively affect the male population. The public blames the media and celebrities for supporting the
idea of the ideal body type. Both men and women want slim, fit bodies. But the media has turned both
genders against each other making it a competition, which is negatively affecting the public ( Body
image concerns more men than women, research finds ). According to Chris Godsey, emphasis on
male physical beauty in the media may contribute to negative body image in boys and young men. He
contends that repeated images of perfectly sculpted, hairless male torsos

Essay about American Airlines Competitive Strategy
Evaluate American s 1992 announcement of a new rate structure:
a. What changes did American make?
American Airlines (American) made four fundamental changes to its rates. First, it moved to a four
tier rate structure; American offered first class rates and three tiers of coach: full fare, 21 day advance
purchase and 7 day advance purchase. Overall, it expected to reduce coach fares by 38% and first
class fares by 20% to 50%. Though full fare coach prices dropped by about 38%, advance purchase
fares dropped by 6% when compared to the advance purchase tickets already being offered. Through
this fare structure, American also eliminated deep discount tickets. Second, American eliminated the
negotiated discount contracts of many large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Travel agents therefore are both positively and negatively impacted. Small business customers are
positively impacted by the fare changes. Previously, the higher full fare prices discouraged small
business travel; small businesses would either decide against travel or incur the cost of a Saturday
night stay and purchase a reduced fare ticket. By reducing the full coach fares, small businesses will
be able to purchase more convenient flights at more economical prices. Large businesses, on the other
hand, may be negatively impacted. Since many large businesses had negotiated discount rate contracts
with airlines, the new full coach fare may be higher than these negotiated fares. For large businesses
that did not have negotiated contracts, the fares will be lower than the previous full fare rate.
Leisure travelers overall will be made better off by the new fare structure. These travelers have more
flexibility and can take advantage of the advance purchase discounts and Saturday night stay
discounts. An exception to this is leisure travelers who had found loop holes in the old fare system by
using creative ticketing and waiting for deep discounts. These leisure travelers may pay higher rates
because the deep discounts will no longer be offered.
c. Why did each of American s competitors react to the fare changes the way they did?
Continental, Northwest and United Airlines intended to adopt part of the new fare system. Continental,

Biological Theories Of Criminal Behavior
Biological Theories of Criminal Behavior Many biological theories of crime have been developed to
explain the analysis of crime and criminality. Scientific studies of research have formed theories as to
what makes a criminal a criminal and what social factors can contribute to criminality. As a result,
criminology scientists Cesare Lombroso, William Sheldon, and Sandberg believe that the presence of
certain physical traits made it more likely that an individual would become a criminal. The three
scientist each share significant theories of criminal characteristics, criminal personality and criminal
behavioral tendencies. Criminologist Cesare Lombroso studied scientifically the born criminal
Atavism theory, which he believed modern criminals share physical characteristics with primitive
humans, Sheldon studied the somatotype theory, the three body types relating to an individual
personality and Franz Gall discovered and studied the phrenology theory, bumps on the head could
indicate certain criminal tendencies. Each theorist philosophy of criminality conveys a scientific
hypothesis as to what biosocial elements of crime establishes an individual as a criminal. In 1987,
while conducting an autopsy of the brigand Villella, Lombroso experienced an unusual, but interesting
epiphany while examining the skull of criminal Villella Giuseppe. Cesare Lombroso discovered an
indention at the base of the skull that he perceived to be commonly shared only amongst apes.

Brief Description Of Manila, Philippines
BODY
I. Brief Description of Manila, Philippines.
Manila is the capital of the Philippines and it is located in Luzon; which is the largest island in the
archipelago. Due to its convenient location for a trade route, it is known as the Pearl of the Orient.
Before Manila was rebuilt, the city suffered many episodes of destruction during World War II
(WWII) where the Japanese invasion occurred. Even though Manila is believed to be one of Southeast
Asia s best capital cities for its breathtaking views and culture, it has its flaws. Manila is filled with
crime, corruption, overpopulation, and the daily inevitable and cumbersome traffic jams. Yet, this city
is still the biggest, most developed and prosperous when compared to the other cities in the
Philippines.
II. The Importance of Preserving Historical Landmarks
Historical landmarks are just as important as every other building that has ever existed. They all have
a purpose; yet people still choose to demolish these structures. It shows a lack of respect towards the
architectural monuments. Most believe that creating brand new buildings is cheaper and more
beneficial rather than maintaining the ancient ones but it is the opposite. You can save money by
preserving them; building a brand new structure costs more.

Vancouver s Temperature Analysis
Average Annual Temperature Winnipeg s climate is colder than Vancouver s climate by 6°C. This is
mainly due to the fact that Winnipeg has a slightly higher latitude by 0.6°, and has a substantially
higher elevation by 235 m. These two factors are the main reasons why Winnipeg s average annual
temperature is lower than Vancouver s average annual temperature, since the greater these values are,
the colder the climate appears to be. Annual Temperature Range Winnipeg s annual temperature range
is wider by 22°C. This is mainly due to the fact that Vancouver is on the west coast, so this moderates
the temperature range a lot more for Vancouver than Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba do for

The Music Of The World Music Essay
Authenticity through Appropriation Ethnicity is deep and innate within stars and society, therefore it
cannot be performed. Artists perform their music. While musicians do not perform their race, since it
is an inherent quality of all people, it is often, but not always, seen as inauthentic when musicians
perform outside of their race, gender, or class. This is especially true when someone from a more
privileged class performs the art of the lower class. While completely replicating a certain style of
music can often be seen as inauthentic, certain artists can easily perform outside of a genre while
taking (or stealing, based on your point of view) elements, sounds, chords, and styles from those
genres and remixing them. The artist achieves expressive authenticity , where an artist is viewed as
real and authentic without the consideration of ethnicity (Rudinow 129). One artist who successfully
does this, but not without controversy, is Paul Simon through his use of world music .
Simon was originally a part of a folk rock duo, Simon and Garfunkel, in the 60s that achieved great
success in the United States. The group, which split in 1970, mostly performed music that is generally
considered to be mainstream white American pop music. In the early 1980s, more than a decade after
his groups split, Paul Simon was in a creative slump with two unsuccessful albums (Greer 1). In order
to explore new sounds and genres Simon traveled to apartheid South Africa. There he met

In 1985, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) evaluated the Silver Creek Wetland, and qualified

functions, protection is crucial. Not only does the area act as flood control, water purification, and
sediment containment, it is a prime fishing location for locals as it provides a cold water habitat and
spawning grounds for several varieties of game fish such as brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis),
Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Numerous

The Scientific Method Of Science Essay
The Scientific Method
Introduction
The Scientific Method is defined as a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since
the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the
formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. The scientific method is used throughout the
world which makes it a uniform way to systematically conduct experiments. The guidelines in this
method are used so that anyone can repeat the experiment as accurate as possible every time the
experiment is done. All measurements in the scientific world are made in metric measurements so
there is a uniform system of measurement. The Scientific Method has steps that are taken to get faster,
more accurate results. The first step is to make observations over the subject you are testing. This
includes studying previous data over the topic under investigation, and making your own observations.
Step number two is to form a testable hypothesis. Also, by forming a hypothesis the scientist can plan
out how the experiment will be conducted. If the scientist has a well prepared hypothesis they should
be able to make a prediction of what the results of the experiment will be. After the hypothesis has
been formed it is time for the experiment. With the experiment the hypothesis will be tested, data will
be obtained, and the results will be concluded. The data will also be used to reject, support, or to
modify the hypothesis. Step number four is to analyze

  • 3. Morgan Freeman Mentor Tennessee born actor Morgan Freeman often plays the role of a mentor or father figure. This can be seen in numerous films starring Freeman, including, An Unfinished Life, Last Knights, Lean on Me, The Magic of Belle Isle, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. In all of these films, he is a mentor to at least one person who has lost a father. However, although he has been pigeonholed as the mentor, Freeman is capable of portraying a wide variety of characters, and demonstrates this in the aforementioned films as well as others. In Last Knights, London has Fallen, Dreamcatcher, and Lean on Me, Freeman s characters Lord Bartok, Allan Trumball, Colonel Curtis, and Joe Clark are strong leaders who refuse to submit to opposition. Although these characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freeman s delivery in this manner helps emphasize Hoke s lack of education in English suggested by the grammatical structure of his lines. He maintains a calm countenance throughout most of the film, showing that, like Red, he is acclimated to his circumstances, but his tone is jollier, reflecting Hoke s optimism in contrast to Red s more solemn ... The birth and mortality rates were so high that women had to have a stop to it. American white women were considered to be the ones having the most children. In 1800 American women were bearing an average of 7.04 children; 5.21 in 1860; and 3.56 in 1900. • 7. Inventing A Writing Technology Essay examples Inventing A Writing Technology According to Walter Ong, an influential scholar of the relationship between technology and media, Literacy is imperious. It tends to arrogate to itself supreme power by taking itself as normative for human expression and thought. This is particularly true in high technology cultures, which are built on literacy of necessity and which encourage the impression that literacy is an always to be expected and even natural state of affairs (316). Ong would probably agree that literacy is so embedded in our current technological culture that it has become part of the standard of living, a necessary requirement for functioning in this highly professionalized world. However, the point of Ong s prior statement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Portability was described as the extent to which the text could be moved or carried. Nature referred to the extent to which the materials used in creating the text and/or writing surface were found in nature and not manufactured or highly processed. During this experiment, I tried to consider what completely natural materials I could find. I resorted to using materials found in my backyard including rocks, dirt, sand, sticks, grass, and leaves. The permanence criterion of the assignment narrowed my choices by eliminating writing in the dirt, sand, or mud or with grass or leaves. Wind or rain would erase any writing created using these materials. The issue of portability further narrowed my decision to use a small, hand held, sharp rock to scrape or chisel words into a larger stone which was able to be carried. The stone needed to have a writing surface large enough to chisel words but not so large that it could not be easily transported. All in all, inventing a technology which was creative was somewhat of a problem when considering permanence and portability and was overlooked as a criterion. Although the solution to the assignment may sound easy, the creation process was actually very challenging. One reason may be that Oral speech is fully natural to human beings in the sense that every human being in every culture who is not physiologically or psychologically impaired learns to talk (Ong, 322). • 8. Increasing Legal Driving Age Teenagers have the highest crash rate when driving, but changing the age will not impact the amount of crashes happening by new drivers. If the legal driving age is increased, crashes will still happen because of new drivers and the only thing different will be the word used to describe the people crashing. Instead of teenager it will be young adult. This won t affect the likelihood of a person crashing, or how well someone drives. If the age that a driver can legally get behind the wheel in a vehicle is increased, doing so won t change the ability one has to drive. Most crashes occur because of inexperience and bad judgement, all of which are teachable. The main way to learn how to drive is to actually drive a car. Increasing legal age is ... • 9. The Characteristics Of Aliens In Avatar And District 9 In the films Avatar and District 9, which were both released in 2009, there are stereotypical elements of the science fiction genre. By discussing humanity towards aliens, a reliance on an advance in technology, the use of corporate giants as a controlling forces as well as moral and emotional manipulation, this essay will prove to a large extent that District 9 and Avatar have evolved past typical science fiction films. However, it will also prove how District 9 has continued to evolve and therefore is more evolved as a science fiction film than Avatar. In Avatar and District 9, the initial interaction between the humans and the aliens revealed the true characteristics of the aliens. For example, in District 9, this scene involved very poor ... • 10. The Flappers Of The 1920 s Roaring Twenties. The end of WW1 resulted in a new era in which people with money wanted to enjoy themselves. The U.S economy was booming, profits were increased, resulting in the Roaring Twenties. The events of WW1 had left many young women disillusioned and led them to question traditional morality and values which resulted in the rebellious behavior of the Flappers (Henderson). The increase in leisure time provided people the ability to dance, and listen to the up and coming jazz. The Flappers of the 1920 s represented Modernism and typified the clash of values and the changing status of women of the new era. Most women in the 1920s, not just the young Flappers, abandoned traditional, restrictive women s clothes, such as long dresses and tight corsets, to free themselves of the shackles of the Victorian era. The free spirited Flappers cut their hair, listened to jazz and scandalized the older generation (Bode 134). The independent and unconventional attitudes of the Flappers challenged the traditional ideas by wearing short skirts, bobbed hairstyles, make up and cosmetics. Flappers began drinking and smoking in public and became more promiscuous during the 1920 s. Women were much more than just staying home with their kids and doing house work. They become independent both financially and literally. They worked hard for the same or greater equality as men. All this brought them much much closer to their goal. Bowler 1 would then throw the first shot again in the second frame. It doesn t matter what the pin count from either bowler is throughout the game. It s as simple as the two teammates alternating shots until the game is over. To bowl a perfect 300 game in scotch doubles, each bowler will throw six of the strikes, alternating each time. • 19. Summary Of Bruce Springsteen s Born To Run The 1970 s, filled with unraveling American society and global uncertainty, spawned many of music s greatest artists. One of these artists was Bruce Springsteen, who has paved the way for the rock genre since his 1975 album, Born to Run. While global issues continued at the hands of politicians, no one quite captured the average Americans issues like Bruce Springsteen s Born to Run. Preformed and composed entirely by Springsteen, with primary producer Jon Landau and incredible accompaniment by the wide range E Street Band, the album flawlessly depicted normal Americans problems with the decaying American dream and crumbling ideals. Bruce Springsteen, through insightful lyrics and instrumentation, successfully and emotionally showcased common American ideals through his Born to Run album. Before his successful breakout album, Springsteen endured the uncertain and unstable society created in the wake of World War II. The United States, in the midst of Cold War tensions on a global scale, faced domestic challenges as social reform movements protested for natural rights and American troop removal from Vietnam ( Modern America ). On the musical side of American society, deaths of influential artists, such as legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix and blues singer Janis Joplin, and the demise of the 1960s counterculture soured the entrance into the 1970s. Born in a struggling working class New Jersey in late 1949, Springsteen observed the nature of blue collar life first hand through his family, despite the increase of affluent, suburban life ( Springsteen s Born to Run ). These early life experiences influenced Springsteen s songwriting themes and provided an escape through music. Although Springsteen had established his musical career before 1975, he had yet to achieve commercial success ( Springsteen, Bruce ). Destined to become the next icon in the rock genre, Columbia Records allowed Springsteen one final attempt to create a profitable record ( Springsteen, Bruce ). Joined by his E Street Band, which included keyboardists Roy Brittan and Danny Federici, bassist Garry Tallent, backup guitarist Steven Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg, and 1950 s R B influenced saxophonist Clarence Clemons, Springsteen set out to ... While critics rave about the wonders of Burton s skills to transform the novel into a believable reality, I have some other views. My views dig past the screen and break apart the struggles and decisions Burton made while directing. While I agree with Hoffman, who noted this film is Tim Burton s best in 20 years (2016), there are some scenes that left me confused and upset. To begin breaking down the adaptation, it must first be placed in a category. This category tells us which form of adaptation it is and what we can expect under these circumstances. I, personally, categorize this as a pluralist adaptation. During my screening of the film, I spent a good chunk of my time looking for the analogies and similarities between the two. This made it much easier to pick out the differences that lead me to conclude that the adaptation was pluralist in nature. I also noticed how the film stuck quite closely to the novel s spirit, this made the film more inviting and accurate. Riggs himself said in an interview that [Burton] took the ideas I had and made them bigger and more vibrant than I d imagined (Riggs, 2016). • 29. Body Stereotyping Within The Media Mark LoPuzzo English 101 Mrs. Ball Senior Research Paper Body Stereotyping within the Media Of course you could stand to lose a few pounds. This was said by an individual struggling with bulimia. The public is presented with thin, tall, muscular, and perfectly fit people in the media such as magazines or television shows, making people with a more natural body image feel insecure and unpleased with their body type. The media is promoting body stereotypes and it is negatively affecting the public. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may negatively affect the male population. Body stereotyping in the media can lead to body dysmorphia. Body dysmorphia is common among the younger generation because they are more adept at using social media. The media displays the average man as being hairless and very well built which may negatively affect the male population. The public blames the media and celebrities for supporting the idea of the ideal body type. Both men and women want slim, fit bodies. But the media has turned both genders against each other making it a competition, which is negatively affecting the public ( Body image concerns more men than women, research finds ). According to Chris Godsey, emphasis on male physical beauty in the media may contribute to negative body image in boys and young men. He contends that repeated images of perfectly sculpted, hairless male torsos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For this reason, I found using the teleprompter difficult, as I would spend some time describing what the shower looked like and how it could be used. For me, it is difficult to put classifiers into words, so this section on the teleprompter had a lot of ... which would prompt me to describe. It is difficult to guess how long it will take to explain the shower, so I found the prompter continuing to the next segment of information before I had finished describing the shower layout. The prompter also posed a challenge as I had trouble getting into character, i.e. looking very excited or interested in the information I was presenting, because I was looking back at the computer screen. And it is hard to represent those feelings into some message on the prompter that could remind me to stay in character. In one section I had wow, interesting to remind me to engage the audience instead of simply providing information about the bathroom. This process felt somewhat unnatural, as I feel I might have been more naturally excited about the information had I memorized the information and retold it that way. Finding a speed on the prompter that will both allow me to add any classifying information without worrying that the prompter will continue to the next segment before I am finished is key to keeping the process flowing naturally. This will ensure that I am completely familiar with all the information I want to provide, so if the prompter does continue on to the next portion of information before I am finished signing, I will be able to catch up without losing any important points I want to ... • 31. Essay about American Airlines Competitive Strategy Evaluate American s 1992 announcement of a new rate structure: a. What changes did American make? American Airlines (American) made four fundamental changes to its rates. First, it moved to a four tier rate structure; American offered first class rates and three tiers of coach: full fare, 21 day advance purchase and 7 day advance purchase. Overall, it expected to reduce coach fares by 38% and first class fares by 20% to 50%. Though full fare coach prices dropped by about 38%, advance purchase fares dropped by 6% when compared to the advance purchase tickets already being offered. Through this fare structure, American also eliminated deep discount tickets. Second, American eliminated the negotiated discount contracts of many large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Travel agents therefore are both positively and negatively impacted. Small business customers are positively impacted by the fare changes. Previously, the higher full fare prices discouraged small business travel; small businesses would either decide against travel or incur the cost of a Saturday night stay and purchase a reduced fare ticket. By reducing the full coach fares, small businesses will be able to purchase more convenient flights at more economical prices. Large businesses, on the other hand, may be negatively impacted. Since many large businesses had negotiated discount rate contracts with airlines, the new full coach fare may be higher than these negotiated fares. For large businesses that did not have negotiated contracts, the fares will be lower than the previous full fare rate. Leisure travelers overall will be made better off by the new fare structure. These travelers have more flexibility and can take advantage of the advance purchase discounts and Saturday night stay discounts. An exception to this is leisure travelers who had found loop holes in the old fare system by using creative ticketing and waiting for deep discounts. These leisure travelers may pay higher rates because the deep discounts will no longer be offered. c. Why did each of American s competitors react to the fare changes the way they did? Continental, Northwest and United Airlines intended to adopt part of the new fare system. Continental, because it is in Chapter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Biological Theories Of Criminal Behavior Biological Theories of Criminal Behavior Many biological theories of crime have been developed to explain the analysis of crime and criminality. Scientific studies of research have formed theories as to what makes a criminal a criminal and what social factors can contribute to criminality. As a result, criminology scientists Cesare Lombroso, William Sheldon, and Sandberg believe that the presence of certain physical traits made it more likely that an individual would become a criminal. The three scientist each share significant theories of criminal characteristics, criminal personality and criminal behavioral tendencies. Criminologist Cesare Lombroso studied scientifically the born criminal Atavism theory, which he believed modern criminals share physical characteristics with primitive humans, Sheldon studied the somatotype theory, the three body types relating to an individual personality and Franz Gall discovered and studied the phrenology theory, bumps on the head could indicate certain criminal tendencies. Each theorist philosophy of criminality conveys a scientific hypothesis as to what biosocial elements of crime establishes an individual as a criminal. In 1987, while conducting an autopsy of the brigand Villella, Lombroso experienced an unusual, but interesting epiphany while examining the skull of criminal Villella Giuseppe. Cesare Lombroso discovered an indention at the base of the skull that he perceived to be commonly shared only amongst apes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Brief Description Of Manila, Philippines BODY I. Brief Description of Manila, Philippines. Manila is the capital of the Philippines and it is located in Luzon; which is the largest island in the archipelago. Due to its convenient location for a trade route, it is known as the Pearl of the Orient. Before Manila was rebuilt, the city suffered many episodes of destruction during World War II (WWII) where the Japanese invasion occurred. Even though Manila is believed to be one of Southeast Asia s best capital cities for its breathtaking views and culture, it has its flaws. Manila is filled with crime, corruption, overpopulation, and the daily inevitable and cumbersome traffic jams. • 35. Vancouver s Temperature Analysis Average Annual Temperature Winnipeg s climate is colder than Vancouver s climate by 6°C. This is mainly due to the fact that Winnipeg has a slightly higher latitude by 0.6°, and has a substantially higher elevation by 235 m. These two factors are the main reasons why Winnipeg s average annual temperature is lower than Vancouver s average annual temperature, since the greater these values are, the colder the climate appears to be. Annual Temperature Range Winnipeg s annual temperature range is wider by 22°C. This is mainly due to the fact that Vancouver is on the west coast, so this moderates the temperature range a lot more for Vancouver than Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba do for Winnipeg. • 36. The Music Of The World Music Essay Authenticity through Appropriation Ethnicity is deep and innate within stars and society, therefore it cannot be performed. Artists perform their music. While musicians do not perform their race, since it is an inherent quality of all people, it is often, but not always, seen as inauthentic when musicians perform outside of their race, gender, or class. This is especially true when someone from a more privileged class performs the art of the lower class. While completely replicating a certain style of music can often be seen as inauthentic, certain artists can easily perform outside of a genre while taking (or stealing, based on your point of view) elements, sounds, chords, and styles from those genres and remixing them. The artist achieves expressive authenticity , where an artist is viewed as real and authentic without the consideration of ethnicity (Rudinow 129). One artist who successfully does this, but not without controversy, is Paul Simon through his use of world music . Simon was originally a part of a folk rock duo, Simon and Garfunkel, in the 60s that achieved great success in the United States. The group, which split in 1970, mostly performed music that is generally considered to be mainstream white American pop music. In the early 1980s, more than a decade after his groups split, Paul Simon was in a creative slump with two unsuccessful albums (Greer 1). In order to explore new sounds and genres Simon traveled to apartheid South Africa. There he met ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A re evaluation was done in 1995, and a decision was made to combine three areas into one complex. The provincially significant wetland is listed as unimpaired and protection was recommended in 2000 by Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority s watershed health monitoring summary. As the area provides vital biological, social, and hydro geological functions, protection is crucial. Not only does the area act as flood control, water purification, and sediment containment, it is a prime fishing location for locals as it provides a cold water habitat and spawning grounds for several varieties of game fish such as brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). • 38. The Scientific Method Of Science Essay The Scientific Method Introduction The Scientific Method is defined as a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. The scientific method is used throughout the world which makes it a uniform way to systematically conduct experiments. The guidelines in this method are used so that anyone can repeat the experiment as accurate as possible every time the experiment is done. All measurements in the scientific world are made in metric measurements so there is a uniform system of measurement. The Scientific Method has steps that are taken to get faster, more accurate results. The first step is to make observations over the subject you are testing. This includes studying previous data over the topic under investigation, and making your own observations. Step number two is to form a testable hypothesis. Also, by forming a hypothesis the scientist can plan out how the experiment will be conducted. If the scientist has a well prepared hypothesis they should be able to make a prediction of what the results of the experiment will be. After the hypothesis has been formed it is time for the experiment. With the experiment the hypothesis will be tested, data will be obtained, and the results will be concluded. The data will also be used to reject, support, or to modify the hypothesis. Step number four is to analyze ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
