Russian Ballet Dance In The 17th And 18th Century
Poverty and other major problems involving constant combatant situations and invasions Russia faced
in the 17th and 18th centuries led to many adaptations of performance and arts which were centered
around dancing. Due to the exclusivity of proper ballet teachings from known academies many lower
class Russian citizens were innovative in the creation of their own ballet performances. Unlike the
higher social classes who found great significance to formality and the esteem which surrounded
Russian ballet, the lower class had their own take on ballet. Lower class Russian citizens adapted
ballet dances through their peers who had commonly been instructed from a handful of other
interpretations of the dance. (Schmidt, 1988). Because the Russian ballet academies were selective
and difficult to attend many versions of the ballet were formed based upon various interpretations of
the dance. Most commonly ballet dances which were performed by those who were not receiving
ballet direction from institutions were more inventive and lively than the serious demeanor of formal
performances of Russian Ballet.
The ability of the Russian people to adapt to the popular ballet dance despite their social class
differences has great prominence in the cultural identity of the country. ... Show more content on

Ballet helped to bridge a gap between social classes during a time when Russia was unstable both
economically and socially. Prominence of the popular dance positively impacted the entire country
through accelerating women s prestige as well as forming a unity of culture across social boundaries.
From the 17th century to today, Russian ballet is held to a very high esteem taken seriously by many
involving high ranking performances, yet another side of the Russian ballet which was shaped by the
lower class expresses a more creative, less serious dancing

Taking a Look at Customs Valuation
Customs Valuation
What is Customs Valuation? Customs valuation can be defined as process to value to a good or service
for the purposes of import or export. Basically, it will involve tariff concessions, implementing trade
policy and others. For our information, this systems has been used a thousand of years ago among
different cultures, and was been proven by evidence in the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty.
Further, the first recorded custom tariff was from 336 in Palmyra, an oasis city in the Syrian Desert.
But, since 20th century, this system has been strength by existence of Agreement on Implementation
of Article VII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994.
In India, customs valuation is a compulsory process that needs to handle. As stated, when an import
consignment arrive in India they need to clear the customs barrier which is their goods will be analyze
in terms of value and a suitable import tariff imposed. The parties that responsible to this process are
the importer or agent which is they need to pay the duty before the goods are cleared by the customs.
Further, tariff is a schedule of duties and it also known as the duty or tax imposed by a country and the
duty or tax within the tariff schedule. Basically, a tax will imposed when the goods cross the border
between two countries.
Besides, export and import are levied either at specific rates or on ad valorem basis. For case of ad
valorem duties, the value of the goods becomes the basis for

A Rhetorical Analysis of “The Death of Honesty” by William...
In The Death of Honesty, William Damon raises the concern that current apathy towards increasing
dishonesty threatens democracy. In this essay taken from the online volume Endangered Virtues
published by the Hoover Institute in 2012, Damon initially concedes that there are situations where
lying could be considered acceptable. However, with that being acknowledged, he transitions to his
main premise that honesty is losing its importance in society and will lead to its downfall, and he cites
examples in politics, law, journalism, and business in contemporary society where dishonesty is
expected, and even, condoned. Damon finally directs his remarks pointedly at teachers and current
students who accept cheating in schools. To persuade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
14, 16). Throughout his essay, Damon parallels these arguments of logic along with emotion to gain a
response from the audience. Damon uses descriptive words to carry the audience from acceptance, to
tolerance, and then, outrage in order to convince them of the urgency to espouse to the virtue of
honesty in a democratic society. Although he speaks of the need for compassion, diplomacy and
protection from unadulterated truth, he claims that no one is naive or surprised their politicians are
dishonest (par. 2, 3). Damon uses references to historical figures to invoke a spiritual and patriotic
response from the audience (par. 6). He refers to Gordon Hinkley s descriptive passage as alarm
sounding...a neglected virtue...and problematic status to extract a response (par. 7). Damon presents a
strong warning when he states that we are reaching a dysfunctional tipping point when honesty
becomes the loser s way of operating, and lying is tolerated (par. 8 9). He also advances that it is most
troubling that there is current lack of honesty amongst young people due to the inconsistent
implementation of standards within schools (par. 11). He goes on to use words like sympathize,
excusable, motivate, encourage, vacillate, half hearted to address the response to cheating in schools
(par. 15,16,18, 20). He pulls on the heartstrings of his audience when warning of the implication of
our current moral decline on children in their formative

Similarities And Differences Between The New England And...
During the colonial era, England founded the Thirteen colonies. The New england colonial region was
established for religious freedom. The Southern colonial region settled to find gold and earn profits.
There were many differences and similarities in New England and the Southern geography, economy,
and culture. There are similarities and differences of the geography of New England and Southern
colonies. The South had mild, rainy winters and long hot humid summers. This means, the South could
grow many crops. According to A Virginia Plantation, the south had lots of plantations with tobacco
and corn (Doc 6). However, New England had long cold winters and a short growing season. This
means New England did not grow as many crops as the South. Instead, many colonists had small
farms for their family or community. Therefore, the differences in geography helped to shape the
development of the New England and Southern regions. There were similarities and differences in the
economy of New england and the Southern colonies. New England colonies had small farms,
lumberjacks, and shipbuilders. The colonies were near the Atlantic Ocean to help with their jobs. The
coast helped the colonists trade. New England did not have slaves instead they used indentured
servants to help with labor. These servants in a passage to the New World and after about 7 years they
are given land and freedom. On the other hand, to make money in the South they would sell slaves to
make a profit. The slaves did most of the work on their plantations. The slaves would do all of the
work so their owners could make the money from the crops they grew. When they were traveling on
the ship to be sold the conditions were terrible. The ship was very crowded and many of the slaves got
sick. According to The Slave Flyer it states that they made sure the slaves didn t have smallpox
because they would be able to sell them for more money if they seemed to be in good condition. They
didn t care if they were not healthy they just wanted them to look healthy (Doc 8). Many people came
to the South only to find gold. They only cared about finding gold so they didn t build houses or get
prepared for what might happen to them. They just looked

Computer Engineering At Shanghai Jiao Tong University
During my college career, through various challenging courses and research experience, as a computer
engineering major, I not only obtained a solid background knowledge in this field but developed an
analytical mind for research and a passion to continuing working in computer architecture. After
deliberating on my future, I decided to apply for the Ph.D. program at (department of Computer
Science Engineering) at (the Pennsylvania State University).
I was honored to be admitted to the dual degree program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the
University of Michigan in 2013. During my freshman and sophomore years at Shanghai Jiao Tong
University, I led some embedded system related projects, and developed small applications on
different kinds of microprocessors. Writing software that is so close to hardware made me curious
about how these microprocessor s internal architecture works. Therefore, I declared my major in
Computer Engineering when I started my junior year at the University of Michigan. However, what
really got me excited about the field of computer architecture was the Computer Architecture course.
The course gave me the opportunity to build a synthesizable two way out of order MIPS R10K based
processor in Verilog. By walking through the progress that computer engineers have been made since
last century, I realized that I can learn more about computer architecture and even make innovations
by joining them in academic research.

King Alfred Research Paper
King Alfred of Wessex was probably the best known of all Anglo Saxon rulers . And Alfred s
reputation still stands high with historians, though few would now want to follow following, claiming
him as the most perfect character in history.
Alfred is someone who has had greatness thrust upon him. How and why did he acquire his glowing
reputation, and how does it stand up today? There can be no doubt that Alfred s reign was significant,
both for the direction of the country s development and the fortunes of his descendants. Alfred was the
only surviving Anglo Saxon province. Alfred nearly succumbed to the Vikings, but kept his nerve and
won a decisive victory at the battle of Edington in 879. He then paved the way for the future unity of
England, who conquered the remaining areas held by the Vikings in the east and north, so that by the
mid tenth century, the England we are familiar with, was ruled as one country for the first time. Alfred
studied, and even translated from Latin into Old English, certain works that were regarded as most
necessary for all men to know . Alfred also tried to put these principles into practice, for instance, he
became convinced that those in authority in church or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

just and show kindness to almost everyone in his domain. As a pious king with an interest in
promoting the use of English, Alfred was an ideal figure for emerging English at a Protestant Church.

Circus Creative Writing
Screams. That s all I could hear when everything went black. I do not know how, but I am currently
lying on the frigid damp asphalt. I hear familiar voices in the distance, and the voices are full of
dismay. I recognize the voices as Anastasia s and my parents. I have an abundant amount of
unanswered questions. Why is everyone terror stricken? How did I get here? Why am I unable to
move? The next thing I know I hear what sounds like a heart rate monitor beeping in the distance.
Although everything seems to be a blur, I start to recollect my day, and it all began at my second
home, the circus. As a trapeze artist, I live and breath the circus. I would rather die than not be able to
perform my show in front of my amazing enthusiastic fans. As I swing back and forth on the bars that
I practice on for an infinite number of hours, I am reminded that with my condition my death could be
very near.
I remember getting prepared for the show today, and I recollect dripping in sweat because I was
anxious to perform in a sold out show. This caused my hands to perspire more, making it nearly
impossible to hold on to my bar. My parents, Beatrice and Alonzo Moss, had already given me a talk
about how I could not let them down, and that the future of the circus depended on this show. Feeling
an immense amount of pressure, I knew that I still had to go out there. Walking into the tent, I could
feel the anticipation of the crowd, and I decided to make my way to my bars like I had done a

Trigger Point Of Muscle Demographics
Trigger points, also known as trigger sites or muscle knots, are described as hyperirritable spots in
skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fiber. These very
localized areas in muscle tissues and/or their tendinous attachments are often felt as taut bands when
palpated, which elicits pain. A trigger point is a very circumscribed region in which relatively few
motor units seem to be contracting. So it is localized spot of tenderness in a nodule of a palpable taut
band of contractured muscle fibers The exact nature of a trigger point is not known. It has been
suggested that certain nerve endings in the muscle tissues may become sensitized by algogenic
substances that create a localized zone of hypersensitivity

Ten Years Ago A Journalist With The New York Times Committed
Ten years ago a journalist with the New York Times committed plagiarism on an article. Moreover, it
was later found he previously committed plagiarism before that while employed in other writing
capacities. Blair attended the University of Maryland where he studied journalism. He interned at The
New York Times in 1998 and offered an extended internship. However, he declined the offer of the
extended internship to complete more courses before graduating (Bailey, 2008). In 1999 Blair returned

Also, it was later found that Blair s time at prior journalist jobs, as well as, his college newspaper
showed similiar questionable behavior, but The Times ignored Blair s potential for use of unethical
journalism methods (Bailey, 2008). In addition, it was later found that Blair s senior editor warned
Blair a number of times about possible plagiarism. However, for whatever reason The Times ignored
these warning, stating that they placed complete trust in its employees. In fact The Times compared
the paper to other entities replying, like Every newspaper, like every bank and every police
department, we trust our employees to uphold central principles (Bailey 2008, p.1). However, in many
ways The New York Times blind trust policy was unchecked and even promoted Blair s unethical
behavior (Mnookin, 2005).
Jayson Blair s New York Time s scandal would never have happened if The Times had a better system
of validating and checking for possible plagerism before a story was sent for print. Moreover, as
Tannenbaum (2003) mentions in her article there were plagiarism detection tools present that could
have been used and would have averted the Blair scandal. The New York Times like other newspapers
determined that they did not have to check their writer s stories for accuracy or possible plagerism.
Unfortunately, Blair crossed the line and ignored the majority of the journalism codes of

Explain The Potential Difficulties Of The Lambing Process
Potential Difficulties of the Lambing Process The lambing process is a natural procedure that usually
can take place without assistance however, when breeding, it is helpful to know about it so that if
needed you can help and successfully deliver the lamb. A ewe is pregnant for 5 months before
delivering her lamb/s and can carry a few lambs at once however single and twin births are the most
common in flocks. First time mothers are usually expected to have a single lamb whereas 2nd time
and older ewes commonly have twins or even triplets. A ewe will mother/lamb multiple times in her

G. F. Kennedy) The failure to dilate occurs when the cervix, lower passage of the womb, fails to dilate

symptom to look for and if it hasn t occurred then time is to be given to allow it however, failure to
dilate for an extended period of time with hard labour and the presence of a water bag probably needs
veterinarian assistance and possibly a caesarean section. (Mike Neary Extension Sheep Specialist,

taken between 1996 and 2004 by the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science. 162 ewes underwent
caesareans and 162 underwent natural births. Out of the caesareans, 2 ewes died from illnesses they
were exposed to in the unnatural process whereas only one of the ewes passed during delivery.
Although the death rate of lambs did not differ significantly, although they were higher for caesareans,
the numbers of ewes that went on to deliver the next year did. The ewes that delivered unnaturally had

sentenced to exile twice and supporting the Mensheviks, Trotsky was deported to New York
Citywhere he was to be a peaceful, productive member of society. Following the removal of the Tsar
during the Russian Revolution, Trotsky returned to Russia in May 1917.
In August 1917, Trotsky joined the Central Committee of the Bolshevik party whose leader was none

Trotsky marched out of negotiations, however the immediate threat posed by German forces led the
Bolsheviks to sign the treaty of Brest Litovsk and agree to even harsher terms than what was first
proposed. Trotsky was the main negotiator at the peace talks, supporting a strategy of no war, no peace
. Despite Trotsky s actions at negotiations, forcing the Bolshevik government to agree to even harsher
terms, Lenin understood Trotsky s motivations as a show of loyalty to the Bolshevik Government and
allowed him to stay Minister of Foreign Affairs.
As the Civil War started, the Bolsheviks passed a declaration announcing the creation of the Red
Army, which was Trotsky s idea. On the 8th of April, Lenin appointed Trotsky as Minister for War.
Shortly after Trotsky introduced conscription and obtained the numbers to overcome the Whites, the
Red Army had a total of 3 million men by 1920. Trotsky s disciplinary actions paid off with the Red
Army being able to launch a counter attack, driving the enemy back. Thus, with Trotsky s other
military success of the Bolshevik Revolution and the support from within the Army, Trotsky took on
another major feature of his life, the Civil War and successfully created Red Army into victory, as well
as consolidating his power by being made Commissar for War.

Another man told of his horrible experience with Prozac in an anonymous letter to Ann Tracy, Ph.D.,
who was doing research on the adverse affects of Prozac. He was taking Prozac for Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome and had been using it for a year; I quite liked the unsought for increase in confidence,
sociability, etc. However, after he stopped taking it he began to experience what he called a whole host
of mental problems that I d never experienced before. He described a lack of emotional response that
soon became a full blown depersonalization disorder, which was accompanied by episodes of
derealization, extreme experiences of mental impairment, and loss of short term memory. He went to
seven of Los Angeles s top psychiatrists, each one telling him the same thing. They claimed that it

began to experience nauseatingly violent dreams with a constant state of unremitting

In a last resort, the writer decided to visit Dr. Murray Susser, one of the foremost authorities on the

the psychiatrists who had told him that it had nothing to do with Prozac, Dr. Susser said B**L S**T!

Compare And Contrast The Canterbury Tales And The...
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales and Margaret Atwood s Handmaid s Tale are similar in the way that their
tales are each addressed to various audiences and the significance of the tales to each of these
audiences is shaped by the conditions under which they receive the tale. In a broader sense, the
various audiences can be classified into one of two categories. The first of these we will call the
immediate audience and it consists of the fictional audience that lives within the same space and time
as the storyteller. The second category we will call the audience at large and it includes the
contemporary audience of the authors as well as the modern day readers. Each set of work has three
types of audience that falls into one of these categories. Dynamically, the three audiences are
structured in such a way that they appear to be layered. This layering allows for one group of audience
to sometimes shape and/or challenge the expectations of another audience. The complexity of how the
role of the audience is explored by both The Canterbury Tales and The Handmaid s Tale is what
allows for the meaning of each tale to expand beyond the narrative.
The Canterbury Tales has three distinguishable layers of audience that are addressed by the various
tales; and this layering is created by the boundaries of space and time, as well as the boundary
between fiction and reality. The three audiences are the pilgrims, Chaucer s contemporary audience
and the modern day audience. The pilgrims and

Southwest Airlines And The State Of Texas
Back in March of 1967, Southwest Airlines was first founded under a different name, Air Southwest
Company, by Rollin King and Herb Kelleher . With his own funds of $500 thousand, Kelleher filed an
application with the Texas Aeronautics Commission for the right to fly commercial airplanes in the

Southwest Company tried to file appeal with the Austin State District Court and the Third Court of

Texas Supreme Court. The Texas Supreme Court unanimously voted to overturn the lower court s
decisions and ruled in favor of Air Southwest . In December of 1970, the United States Supreme Court

Egalitarianism In Australia
Introduction
Australian society is often defined as egalitarian since the government equally accepts the diversity of
population regardless of their personal backgrounds, socioeconomic status, health condition and
political opinions. The society is supposed to attach importance to the fair civil liberties, protect local
industries and provide every resident with welfare support, the opportunity of education and
employment. However, after world economy crisis brought great global change in the 1980s,
Australian political policy dramatically changed into profitability toward this competitive global

After the federation in 1901, this nation practiced protectionism for national industrial development
such as iron, steel, woolen goods, and motors. The regime set more than 60 percent tariff wall for
import and export to secure local income and employments in growing population. Consequently the
allocation of importation in Australia conserved more than 80 percent for the local markets, but also
maintained generous working conditions for employers and employee (Abbott, 1997). The regime also
focused on the wage fairness and providing welfare benefits based on the needs of families and the
individuals to maintain their standard living (Anderson, 1938). The government practiced strong
encouragement and created an environment for working and middle class population to participate in
universities with financial support between the 1940s and the 1990s. Naturally, the university system
and the governmental policy resulted in an increase rate of university students and the low level of
employment, which was around three percent in 1940 1970 (Gale Parker, 2013; Loundes, 1997).
There were supports for persons who have chronicle diseases and the government provided state
government housing for population who had financial difficulties. Therefore, this country started to be

tales and mythical stories because the power of imagination is still at play in their lives. Adults on the
other hand hide themselves in a veneer of reality which can however be unmasked by sneaking
through the critical mind.
How to Use Imagine in Your Online Marketing Strategy
1. Create mental and enticing pictures into the minds of your customers using the words imagine ,
visualize , picture and envision . Suggest to them what how life would be good/easy/enjoyable if they
bought your products. You could also ask customers who have already bought your products how they
are using them and how they changed their lives. Use these narratives to create more pictures in your
copy.
2. Use call to action statements that will leverage the imaginative ability of your customers. If for
example, you are selling a weight loss eBook, your checkout cart could read, Welcome to the Slim
World . If selling a snoring aid, it could read To Sound, Fitful Sleep .

Warlord Rule and Sun Yat Sen s Inability to Achieve the...
Warlord Rule and Sun Yat Sen s Inability to Achieve the Aims of the Three People s Principles
I agree with the statement only to a small extent. The period of warlord rule was particularly chaotic in
China. However, even when order was being restored again, the aims of the three people s principles
were not all being achieved. Therefore, I feel that warlord rule is not the most important reason as to
why Sun Yat Sen was unable to achieve the aims of the three people s principles.
The three people s principles are the principle of nationalism, the principle of democracy and the
principle of the people s well being. The first one is Sun Yat Sen s aim to unite the whole of China. As

During this period, it was also a time of lawlessness. The warlords fought each other as they hoped to
gain control over a larger territory. This brought about much suffering to the Chinese people. Sun Yat
Sen s principle of democracy is not being upheld as these warlord ruled over their area like a dictator.
These warlords exploited the people under them, like the peasants. Thus it is clear that Sun Yat Sen s
principle s are not being achieved or even upheld. He, himself could not do anything as his party and
government was still too weak. However, this period of warlord rule is not the only factor that
prevented him from being unable to achieve his aims.
Due to the disunity in his party, Kuomintang (KMT), he could not achieve the aims of his three
principles. Before he can actually unite the whole country, he would need to unite his party members.
He often met failure when he tried to reunite the country due to internal squabbles in his own party.
They often argued over the third principle. Some party members wanted the land of the landlords to be
taken away from them, and come under state ownership. However, there were others who disagreed.
Therefore, this made it very difficult for Sun Yat Sen to get his party members to work together to
achieve his aims. He soon realised he had to reorganize his movement again before he could actually
topple warlord rule and unify

Is Attrition A Negative Impact On Late Stage Doctoral...
Literature Review Willis and Carmichael (2011) presented foundlings stating that attrition is defined
by the experiences gathered in the doctoral study rather than the stage at which erosion occurs. The
study share relevant similarities to previous research, indicating perverse experiences could lead to
pessimistic outcomes regardless of the field or stage of the doctorate program (Willis and Carmichael,
2011). The theoretical foundations of this case study support the synthesis arguments of Hoskins and
Goldberg (2005) that stated dissertation committee chair post a problematic negative impact on late
stage doctoral attrition. Other scholars argue the results of the current research. Incomplete doctoral
learners all assert how a problematic relationship with their dissertation chair played a significant role
in their decision to leave the program (Willis and Carmichael, 2011). However, Willis and Carmichael
(2011) identified the gap and addressed problems in the attrition decision. Dropped out learners were
not allowed to achieve their goals, and that resulted in negative emotions (Willis and Carmichael
(2011). According to Willis and Carmichael (2011), comparatively, students that willing quit the
dissertation process no longer desire the degree, and thus experienced positive emotions related to
attrition, but more research is needed. Phenomenon Key Component The event key element in this
qualitative study describes dissertation committee chair as the problem in

Comparing The Prophetic Lives Of Prophets, Moses, And...
Hypothesis: I believe that the prophetic lives of prophets Jesus, Moses, and Mohammed will be
similar, each facing different obstacles.
Thesis: I believe that the lives of the three prophets, Jesus, Moses, and Muhammad, are all related to
each other through the guidelines of prophethood.
Introduction:
Prophets have been a major factor in religions around the world, from modern day prophets, to older
prophets, and they continue to affect the world we live in. Roger Karban of the National Catholic
Reporter, in his article entitled Real Prophets, discusses how the people of old used prophecies to
determine the word or message of god. He maintains that in these ancient civilizations people claimed

Jesus was said to have been ridiculed, persecuted, and insulted on many occasions. The last event of
suffering that Jesus underwent was his crucifixion, in which his hands and feet were nailed to a cross,
until he bled out (http://www.thoughts about god.com/easter/easterstory.htm ).
According to the website US Islam, Muhammad suffered similarly to Jesus. The writers of this article
believed that Mohammed was viciously ridiculed for his message, including having garbage and dust
thrown on him, facing many verbal slurs, and eventually having to survive an assassination plot
against him

Jewish prophet, also underwent suffering during his life due to his message. According to a website by

the religion of his land. Moses also chose to suffer with his people rather than accepting his Egyptian

Shale Gas Of Ammonium And Ethylene
Shale Gas to Ammonium and Ethylene
Nikita Cardenas, Lucas Freiberg, James Watkins, Heitor Almeida Rogerio
RA2
Main Goals:
We are interested in using our shale gas stream, which we currently sell as heating fuel, to create
another product of value. We are considering taking the shale gas and producing anhydrous ammonia,
urea, ammonia sulfate, and ethylene. The main goal is to make a greater profit from our shale gas by
selling it as more valuable products rather than solely heating fuel.
Specific objectives and requirements: This project aims to create valuable products from natural gas
extracted from shale formations. The shale gas feed entering the process contains mostly hydrocarbons
that can be transformed into a variety of value added chemicals, but it also contains impurities that
must be removed. Carbon dioxide is useful in the chemical reactions utilized to convert hydrocarbons
into hydrogen gas (in order to create ammonia), but at 8 mole percent, the concentration of CO2 in our
feed will dilute the shale gas and may cause corrosion. Hydrogen sulfide is not only hazardous to
health and corrosive to pipelines, but also destroys metal catalysts used in the processes downstream.
These impurities can be removed using a variety of separations techniques. Once removed, however,
sulfur should not be considered a waste product. It can be collected and used in ammonium sulfate
fertilizer. Depending of the desired quality of gas,

The Upside And Hardship Of Hamlet From Hamlet By William...
The Upside to Hardship The three characters, Hamlet from Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Mr.
Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and Pi from Life of Pi, all must overcome hardships
in order to be successful in life. It is apparent that each of these characters has his own struggle to go
through. However, each struggle helps the character to become stronger in his own way. These
struggles give the characters strive to achieve a goal, and eventually each character is able to achieve
his own individual success. It is through the experience of hardships, Hamlet, Mr. Darcy and Pi,
become stronger, more ambitious individuals, ultimately achieving success. It is impossible to go
through life without hardships, as Hamlet, Darcy and Pi are powerful examples of characters who
endure many hardships throughout their journey to success. One struggle that Hamlet encounters
within the play is the murder of his father: But two months dead, nay, not so much, not two; so
excellent a king that was to this Hyperion to a satyr, so loving to my mother (Shakespeare, I, ii, 139

becomes after Old Hamlet s death. Hyperion is the God of Light, while a satyr is a grotesque creature
that is half man half goat, symbolic of sexual promiscuity (Mabillard). This allusion helps the reader

The Case Of Augustus s True Message
Art is often used in propaganda regimes in order to convey a certain message. Many times that
message is clear. However, in the case of Augustus, is his message straightforward? Was he telling
people that he was a brave and godlike man with the Prima Porta? Or would he rather be known as the
humble pontifex maximus? Or rather a man who works in conjunction with his family and the senate
as seen in the Ara Picas Augustae? Certainly these different characteristics make it hard to pin point
Augustus s true message. What was Augustus really trying to say? Why keep himself young and
idealized even as he aged? Why did he make divine symbols subtle? If he wanted the Roman
population to view him as a god couldn t he just force everyone to worship him? Well that would
probably work in a world where assassination wasn t an option. But, then again, was Augustus really
the mastermind behind the propaganda? Maybe it was all Livia.
The Prima Porta Speaking of Livia, she was he owner of the Prima Porta, an idealized statue of a
young Augustus. She had it displayed in her villa, from which the statue got its name. It is believed
that The statue, probably carved after Augustus death, may be a copy of an earlier bronze statue put up
in a public space, made soon after his victory over the Parthians in 20 B.C. Let s look first at what the
original statue, if there was one, would have meant for Augustus s propaganda. Certain features of the

The Similarities And Differences Of Fairy Folk Tales
Comparative Analysis Essay
Fairy Folk Tales are the most popular types of literature. The tale is an orally transmitted tradition by
generations through the time; some events are changed to fit reality and society. Folk fairy tales deal
with the dualism of the good and the evil. They are basing on a conflict between the good and the evil
forces. The conclusion comes from aspirations of the human desire to achieve the justices. There are
no known authors and sources for ancient s literature. We have many versions of the story; they are
credited by many authors later. Each tale is very like some other culture s tale. Each culture has own
tales, but all the tales are similarities and differences in some points. This essay will compare between
two fairy tales, Cinderella and In the Land of Small Dragon . The tale of Cinderella is a French tale. It
is credited by Charles Perrault; it is published in 1697. The in the Land of Small Dragon is a
Vietnamese folktale; it is told by Dang Manh Kha in 1979.
The tale works to improve the man s image, as a fair and a wise father; or a prince who is the savior of
hopeless girl. The hopeless girl expresses a kind and a simple girl; otherwise, the woman mirrors a
wicked, jealous, and ugly character. That is clear in these two fairy tales. While Cinderella and Tam
were little kids, they lost their mothers. At this point, each of them her suffering and the painful
journey begins. Cinderella lives in her father s house with a stepmother and

Cannibalism And Its Impact On Society
Introduction
Throughout the course of our evolution hominids have engaged in, what today would be considered
savage, inhumane practices, such as manslaughter, torture and mutilation (Lewis, Jurmain Kilgore,
2013). These actions today are considered almost taboo in society, however anthropologists who study
such behaviour and historians who have meticulously documented it are completely comfortable
divulging their work to the scientific community. Based on this acceptance, one would expect the
topic of cannibalism to be met with the same understanding within academia. Astoundingly though,
the discussion of cannibalism within our ancestral past encounters much controversy and is greatly
looked down upon within the general population (White, 2001). For those who study this highly
provocative practice, like paleoanthropologist Tim White, the idea of cannibalism is as significant to
the holistic study of anthropology as the idea of evolution is to the study of creationism. This
viewpoint is only one of many related to cannibalism today and is shared by a very small group of
individuals. The thought of cannibalism within modern society though comes with so much
displeasure to the point that conferences go to the length of entitling presentations such that the notion
of one human being consuming another is eluded altogether. An example of this tactic would be the
Multidisciplinary Approaches to Social Violence in the Prehispanic American Southwest symposium
which outlined

Influenza Virus Life Cycle
Influenza A viruses are enveloped, single stranded, negative sense RNA viruses which contain eight
gene segments. The influenza virus life cycle can be divided into the four stages: entry of virus inside
the host cell entry of vRNPs (also known as viral nucleoproteins) into the nucleus of host cell ,
transcription and replication of the viral RNA, export of the vRNPs from the nucleus and finally
leading towards assembly and budding of newly formed Influenza virus from the host cell membrane.
The virus infection is initiated by binding of the virus to sialic acid host cell surface receptors, and the
entry of pathogen is mediated by receptor mediated endocytosis. The next step involves the fusion of
viral envelope and the host cell membrane. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The synthesis of the viral glycoproteins HA NA starts in the cytoplasm and later these growing
polypeptide chains are transported to the endoplasmic reticulum where the proteins are modified and
assembled into trimers and tetramers ( Samji T.,2009).These proteins are then transported through the
Golgi apparatus and the trans Golgi network to the plasma membrane of the cell where they inserted
finally. The synthesis and folding of viral core proteins occur entirely in the cytoplasm. NP and the
RNA polymerase components interact with newly synthesized viral RNA to form RNPs. The M1
protein forms interaction with the C terminal domains of HA and NA protein on the cell plasma
membrane. The newly formed RNPs interact with the M1 protein. This interaction also stops re entry
of RNPs inside the nucleus of the cell. After attachment of RNPs to M1protein where it act as a bridge
on the inner half of the cell plasma membranes, in a process of budding, the new virus particles are
assembled . The progeny virions bud off from the host cell. (Shi etal.,2014).As soon as budding takes
place, the new virions are still attached to the cell surface through interaction of the HA with sialic
acid moieties on cellular glycoproteins or glycolipids. The

Immanuel Kant s Uninable Peace
In 1795, Immanuel Kant a German philosopher wrote an essay titled perpetual peace: a philosophical
sketch where he lays down rubrics that define the general nature of states as political entities and how
state structures and external policies should be reformed to ensure lasting peace. Over a century later,
the proposal he made in this essay have been linked to traits and theories in modern day society like
the democratic peace theory that states that democratic nations don t fight one another, and the
cosmopolitan theory which is used to explain the unprecedented rise in regional organizations. So far,
the EU is considered as the most successful regional organization that has managed to achieve peace

The first definitive article states that the civil constitution of every state shall be republican (Kant,
1795). However, while questioning whether only republican constitutions can bring about peace, he
reasoned that since power will be constituted in the people, they would least likely to resort to war
than if it were an authoritarian regime. While noting that with this explanation, the citizens who hold
power can be described as despotic, Christian Covell in his book on the law of nations in political
thought noted that Kant indicated that international peace is dependent on the transformation of
domestic policies. He further linked this proposal to just war theory especially in relation to jus ad
bellum because Kant acknowledged that states need some sort of authorization to go to war. He stated
that the form of constitution is presented as a decisive factor in determining if the lawful authority of
states to wage war would ever be exercised (Covell, 2009). Still, Lars Erik Cederman in his article on
modelling democratic peace as a Kantian selection process , noted that this proposal was flawed in the
sense that the spread of norms that bring progress don t have to stop at democratic borders. According
to Cederman, once the spread of progress begins, the rule of law creeps into interstate, or more
precisely inter democratic,

When this writing assignment was given to me, I sat and pondered about the three poems by T.S.

Then in flipping a couple of pages and finding the poem, The Hollow Men and after reading this poem

In the article How Junk Food Ends Obesity, David H. Freedman, an author and writer, discusses the

business will expand. Not only will business expand, but more people will become healthy by eating
the same food but without it being processed. His plan is to create a wholesome food movement that
could work better, reducing the chance of obesity rates increasing. In my personal opinion, I believe
that this is a great idea among adults. Freedman wants to make this society a better way to live. This
article impacts many individuals who do struggle with their weight. Food is an addiction, a way to

Discussion and debate are important within Global Affairs. They allow for education about issues that

change in the world.

Factors Based On John Bowlby s Attachment Theory
Attachment Theory. Attachment Theory is based on John Bowlby s, British Psychologist observation
and findings. He studied a child s bond with his or her caregiver and reactions of separation. The
theory emphasizes the importance of these interactions. (Zastrow, C., Kirst Ashman, K, 2013)
Mary Ainsworth, expanded on Bowlby s theory by testing his ideas. She developed the Strange
Situation a demonstrated episode of mother and child and his or her interactions with a stranger. The
mother interacts with the child, while the stranger is either absent or present. The child is eventually
left alone with the stranger. Ainsworth recorded and measured the child s emotional states, giving
insight to the severity of attachments a child forms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cognitive Development is an important guideline in the process of thought. Piaget s stages of
cognitive development explain the origination of thought and it s progression through aging. At the
age of 7, Amber fell victim to sexual assault. Amber was also in Piaget s period of concrete operations.
Her thought process was at a developmental stage, which allowed her to comprehend the severity of
the sexual assault. This could have contributed to Amber s self concept of low self worth. From birth
to age 7, Amber thoughts matured allowing for process and understanding. At the age of 15, Amber
thoughts reached the period of formal operations. According to Piaget, Amber is fully capable of

Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning Model
Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning Model (Observational Learning) The term learning is defined by
the Oxford dictionary as the process of acquiring knowledge from reading and studying. This is a very
formal view on how we humans learn on a daily basis. However, Bandura s Social Cognitive Learning
Model proposes that learning may occur just by mere observation of one s surrounding. This process
of learning may be also referred to as informal learning. This way of learning has been in practice
since the beginning of our civilisation as a method to pass on the wisdom of the elders to the younger
generations in order to perform day to day tasks. Bandura on the other hand calls this form of learning
as Observational Learning. This theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this experiment, each child was brought into a room individually and asked to watch a clip of a
model displaying both physical and verbal aggression towards the Bobo doll. In the model rewarded
condition the model was awarded with sweets and soft drinks while in the model punished condition a
reinforcing model was brought in shaking his finger and giving comments such as If I catch you doing
that again... I ll give you a hard spanking. . The results showed that when let to go in the playroom,
children on the model punished condition showed less imitative aggression than the other groups.
However, if all children were given rewards for imitating the model, all groups showed a high level of
imitation. With this information Bandura then postulated that observational learning consists of four
aspects. Firstly, attention a process whereby people observe and gain certain information on the
behaviour or situation being observed. Secondly, retention which involves a process of transforming
and restructuring information in the form of rules and conceptions (Wood Bandura , 1989). Next,
reproduction where the individual reenacts the behaviour that was formerly observed. Finally,
motivation which is what the individual needs in order to repeat the behaviour in order to learn

concurred that these were issues that could be illuminated, and from that meeting, the National

  • 2. Russian Ballet Dance In The 17th And 18th Century Poverty and other major problems involving constant combatant situations and invasions Russia faced in the 17th and 18th centuries led to many adaptations of performance and arts which were centered around dancing. Due to the exclusivity of proper ballet teachings from known academies many lower class Russian citizens were innovative in the creation of their own ballet performances. Unlike the higher social classes who found great significance to formality and the esteem which surrounded Russian ballet, the lower class had their own take on ballet. Lower class Russian citizens adapted ballet dances through their peers who had commonly been instructed from a handful of other interpretations of the dance. (Schmidt, 1988). Because the Russian ballet academies were selective and difficult to attend many versions of the ballet were formed based upon various interpretations of the dance. Most commonly ballet dances which were performed by those who were not receiving ballet direction from institutions were more inventive and lively than the serious demeanor of formal performances of Russian Ballet. The ability of the Russian people to adapt to the popular ballet dance despite their social class differences has great prominence in the cultural identity of the country. ... • 4. A Rhetorical Analysis of “The Death of Honesty” by William... In The Death of Honesty, William Damon raises the concern that current apathy towards increasing dishonesty threatens democracy. In this essay taken from the online volume Endangered Virtues published by the Hoover Institute in 2012, Damon initially concedes that there are situations where lying could be considered acceptable. However, with that being acknowledged, he transitions to his main premise that honesty is losing its importance in society and will lead to its downfall, and he cites examples in politics, law, journalism, and business in contemporary society where dishonesty is expected, and even, condoned. Damon finally directs his remarks pointedly at teachers and current students who accept cheating in schools. To persuade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 14, 16). Throughout his essay, Damon parallels these arguments of logic along with emotion to gain a response from the audience. Damon uses descriptive words to carry the audience from acceptance, to tolerance, and then, outrage in order to convince them of the urgency to espouse to the virtue of honesty in a democratic society. Although he speaks of the need for compassion, diplomacy and protection from unadulterated truth, he claims that no one is naive or surprised their politicians are dishonest (par. 2, 3). Damon uses references to historical figures to invoke a spiritual and patriotic response from the audience (par. 6). He refers to Gordon Hinkley s descriptive passage as alarm sounding...a neglected virtue...and problematic status to extract a response (par. 7). Damon presents a strong warning when he states that we are reaching a dysfunctional tipping point when honesty becomes the loser s way of operating, and lying is tolerated (par. 8 9). He also advances that it is most troubling that there is current lack of honesty amongst young people due to the inconsistent implementation of standards within schools (par. 11). He goes on to use words like sympathize, excusable, motivate, encourage, vacillate, half hearted to address the response to cheating in schools (par. 15,16,18, 20). He pulls on the heartstrings of his audience when warning of the implication of our current moral decline on children in their formative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The New england colonial region was established for religious freedom. The Southern colonial region settled to find gold and earn profits. There were many differences and similarities in New England and the Southern geography, economy, and culture. There are similarities and differences of the geography of New England and Southern colonies. The South had mild, rainy winters and long hot humid summers. This means, the South could grow many crops. According to A Virginia Plantation, the south had lots of plantations with tobacco and corn (Doc 6). However, New England had long cold winters and a short growing season. This means New England did not grow as many crops as the South. Instead, many colonists had small farms for their family or community. Therefore, the differences in geography helped to shape the development of the New England and Southern regions. There were similarities and differences in the economy of New england and the Southern colonies. New England colonies had small farms, lumberjacks, and shipbuilders. The colonies were near the Atlantic Ocean to help with their jobs. The coast helped the colonists trade. New England did not have slaves instead they used indentured servants to help with labor. These servants in a passage to the New World and after about 7 years they are given land and freedom. On the other hand, to make money in the South they would sell slaves to make a profit. The slaves did most of the work on their plantations. The slaves would do all of the work so their owners could make the money from the crops they grew. When they were traveling on the ship to be sold the conditions were terrible. The ship was very crowded and many of the slaves got sick. According to The Slave Flyer it states that they made sure the slaves didn t have smallpox because they would be able to sell them for more money if they seemed to be in good condition. Computer Engineering At Shanghai Jiao Tong University During my college career, through various challenging courses and research experience, as a computer engineering major, I not only obtained a solid background knowledge in this field but developed an analytical mind for research and a passion to continuing working in computer architecture. After deliberating on my future, I decided to apply for the Ph.D. program at (department of Computer Science Engineering) at (the Pennsylvania State University). I was honored to be admitted to the dual degree program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Michigan in 2013. During my freshman and sophomore years at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, I led some embedded system related projects, and developed small applications on different kinds of microprocessors. Writing software that is so close to hardware made me curious about how these microprocessor s internal architecture works. Therefore, I declared my major in Computer Engineering when I started my junior year at the University of Michigan. However, what really got me excited about the field of computer architecture was the Computer Architecture course. The course gave me the opportunity to build a synthesizable two way out of order MIPS R10K based processor in Verilog. By walking through the progress that computer engineers have been made since last century, I realized that I can learn more about computer architecture and even make innovations by joining them in academic research. And Alfred s reputation still stands high with historians, though few would now want to follow following, claiming him as the most perfect character in history. Alfred is someone who has had greatness thrust upon him. How and why did he acquire his glowing reputation, and how does it stand up today? There can be no doubt that Alfred s reign was significant, both for the direction of the country s development and the fortunes of his descendants. Alfred was the only surviving Anglo Saxon province. Alfred nearly succumbed to the Vikings, but kept his nerve and won a decisive victory at the battle of Edington in 879. He then paved the way for the future unity of England, who conquered the remaining areas held by the Vikings in the east and north, so that by the mid tenth century, the England we are familiar with, was ruled as one country for the first time. Alfred studied, and even translated from Latin into Old English, certain works that were regarded as most necessary for all men to know . In fact The Times compared the paper to other entities replying, like Every newspaper, like every bank and every police department, we trust our employees to uphold central principles (Bailey 2008, p.1). Jayson Blair s New York Time s scandal would never have happened if The Times had a better system of validating and checking for possible plagerism before a story was sent for print. Moreover, as Tannenbaum (2003) mentions in her article there were plagiarism detection tools present that could have been used and would have averted the Blair scandal. Chaucer s Canterbury Tales and Margaret Atwood s Handmaid s Tale are similar in the way that their tales are each addressed to various audiences and the significance of the tales to each of these audiences is shaped by the conditions under which they receive the tale. In a broader sense, the various audiences can be classified into one of two categories. The first of these we will call the immediate audience and it consists of the fictional audience that lives within the same space and time as the storyteller. The second category we will call the audience at large and it includes the contemporary audience of the authors as well as the modern day readers. Each set of work has three types of audience that falls into one of these categories. Dynamically, the three audiences are structured in such a way that they appear to be layered. This layering allows for one group of audience to sometimes shape and/or challenge the expectations of another audience. The complexity of how the role of the audience is explored by both The Canterbury Tales and The Handmaid s Tale is what allows for the meaning of each tale to expand beyond the narrative. The Canterbury Tales has three distinguishable layers of audience that are addressed by the various tales; and this layering is created by the boundaries of space and time, as well as the boundary between fiction and reality. Warlord Rule and Sun Yat Sen s Inability to Achieve the Aims of the Three People s Principles I agree with the statement only to a small extent. The period of warlord rule was particularly chaotic in China. However, even when order was being restored again, the aims of the three people s principles were not all being achieved. Therefore, I feel that warlord rule is not the most important reason as to why Sun Yat Sen was unable to achieve the aims of the three people s principles. Sun Yat Sen s principle of democracy is not being upheld as these warlord ruled over their area like a dictator. These warlords exploited the people under them, like the peasants. Thus it is clear that Sun Yat Sen s principle s are not being achieved or even upheld. He, himself could not do anything as his party and government was still too weak. However, this period of warlord rule is not the only factor that prevented him from being unable to achieve his aims. Due to the disunity in his party, Kuomintang (KMT), he could not achieve the aims of his three principles. Before he can actually unite the whole country, he would need to unite his party members. He often met failure when he tried to reunite the country due to internal squabbles in his own party. They often argued over the third principle. Some party members wanted the land of the landlords to be taken away from them, and come under state ownership. However, there were others who disagreed. Literature Review Willis and Carmichael (2011) presented foundlings stating that attrition is defined by the experiences gathered in the doctoral study rather than the stage at which erosion occurs. The study share relevant similarities to previous research, indicating perverse experiences could lead to pessimistic outcomes regardless of the field or stage of the doctorate program (Willis and Carmichael, 2011). The theoretical foundations of this case study support the synthesis arguments of Hoskins and Goldberg (2005) that stated dissertation committee chair post a problematic negative impact on late stage doctoral attrition. Other scholars argue the results of the current research. Shale Gas Of Ammonium And Ethylene Shale Gas to Ammonium and Ethylene Nikita Cardenas, Lucas Freiberg, James Watkins, Heitor Almeida Rogerio RA2 Main Goals: We are interested in using our shale gas stream, which we currently sell as heating fuel, to create another product of value. We are considering taking the shale gas and producing anhydrous ammonia, urea, ammonia sulfate, and ethylene. The main goal is to make a greater profit from our shale gas by selling it as more valuable products rather than solely heating fuel. Specific objectives and requirements: This project aims to create valuable products from natural gas extracted from shale formations. The shale gas feed entering the process contains mostly hydrocarbons that can be transformed into a variety of value added chemicals, but it also contains impurities that must be removed. Carbon dioxide is useful in the chemical reactions utilized to convert hydrocarbons into hydrogen gas (in order to create ammonia), but at 8 mole percent, the concentration of CO2 in our feed will dilute the shale gas and may cause corrosion. Hydrogen sulfide is not only hazardous to health and corrosive to pipelines, but also destroys metal catalysts used in the processes downstream. These impurities can be removed using a variety of separations techniques. Once removed, however, sulfur should not be considered a waste product. It can be collected and used in ammonium sulfate fertilizer. Depending of the desired quality of gas, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Case Of Augustus s True Message Art is often used in propaganda regimes in order to convey a certain message. Many times that message is clear. However, in the case of Augustus, is his message straightforward? Was he telling people that he was a brave and godlike man with the Prima Porta? Or would he rather be known as the humble pontifex maximus? Or rather a man who works in conjunction with his family and the senate as seen in the Ara Picas Augustae? Certainly these different characteristics make it hard to pin point Augustus s true message. What was Augustus really trying to say? Why keep himself young and idealized even as he aged? Why did he make divine symbols subtle? If he wanted the Roman population to view him as a god couldn t he just force everyone to worship him? Well that would probably work in a world where assassination wasn t an option. But, then again, was Augustus really the mastermind behind the propaganda? Maybe it was all Livia. The Prima Porta Speaking of Livia, she was he owner of the Prima Porta, an idealized statue of a young Augustus. She had it displayed in her villa, from which the statue got its name. It is believed that The statue, probably carved after Augustus death, may be a copy of an earlier bronze statue put up in a public space, made soon after his victory over the Parthians in 20 B.C. They are basing on a conflict between the good and the evil forces. The conclusion comes from aspirations of the human desire to achieve the justices. There are no known authors and sources for ancient s literature. We have many versions of the story; they are credited by many authors later. Each tale is very like some other culture s tale. Each culture has own tales, but all the tales are similarities and differences in some points. This essay will compare between two fairy tales, Cinderella and In the Land of Small Dragon . The tale of Cinderella is a French tale. It is credited by Charles Perrault; it is published in 1697. The in the Land of Small Dragon is a Vietnamese folktale; it is told by Dang Manh Kha in 1979. The tale works to improve the man s image, as a fair and a wise father; or a prince who is the savior of hopeless girl. The hopeless girl expresses a kind and a simple girl; otherwise, the woman mirrors a wicked, jealous, and ugly character. That is clear in these two fairy tales. • 32. Cannibalism And Its Impact On Society Introduction Throughout the course of our evolution hominids have engaged in, what today would be considered savage, inhumane practices, such as manslaughter, torture and mutilation (Lewis, Jurmain Kilgore, 2013). These actions today are considered almost taboo in society, however anthropologists who study such behaviour and historians who have meticulously documented it are completely comfortable divulging their work to the scientific community. Based on this acceptance, one would expect the topic of cannibalism to be met with the same understanding within academia. Astoundingly though, the discussion of cannibalism within our ancestral past encounters much controversy and is greatly looked down upon within the general population (White, 2001). For those who study this highly provocative practice, like paleoanthropologist Tim White, the idea of cannibalism is as significant to the holistic study of anthropology as the idea of evolution is to the study of creationism. This viewpoint is only one of many related to cannibalism today and is shared by a very small group of individuals. The thought of cannibalism within modern society though comes with so much displeasure to the point that conferences go to the length of entitling presentations such that the notion of one human being consuming another is eluded altogether. However, while questioning whether only republican constitutions can bring about peace, he reasoned that since power will be constituted in the people, they would least likely to resort to war than if it were an authoritarian regime. While noting that with this explanation, the citizens who hold power can be described as despotic, Christian Covell in his book on the law of nations in political thought noted that Kant indicated that international peace is dependent on the transformation of domestic policies. He further linked this proposal to just war theory especially in relation to jus ad bellum because Kant acknowledged that states need some sort of authorization to go to war. He stated that the form of constitution is presented as a decisive factor in determining if the lawful authority of states to wage war would ever be exercised (Covell, 2009).
