Iran under the Pahlavi Monarchy
For many centuries such as the early 1500 s, Iran has been an islamic state consisting of Shiites
majority, ruled by the Qajar dynasty (1796 1925). However, in the early 1920 s during a time of
instability in Iran, Reza Khan (1878 1944), an officer was able to overthrow the Qajar dynasty
and crown himself as the shah in 1925. With it s next door neighbor Turkey already modernized,
Reza had ambitions for Iran; he wanted to modernize Iran as well , that being he wanted to bring
change within the nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reza shah was also able to lay out his plans which consisted of implementing infrastructure
projects, building a railroad system, establishing a public education system, as well as
developing huge industries and overall improving the health care system, and finally reforming
the judiciary branch in Iran. With all these reforms at work, Reza shah was able to turn Iran into
an industrialized nation; though by mid 1930 s many religious and intellectual elites were
dissatisfied by the shah s dictatorial ways in Iran; thus foreshadowing the coming introduction of
Ayatollah Khomeini against the modernized idealism of Reza shah. During World War II, Iran s
oil resources alone played a factor in overthrowing the shah (Reza), which is analyzed by
Mohammad Gholi Majd in his book, Great Britain and Reza Shah: The Plunder of Iran, 1921 1941
. With Great Britain being the majority holder of the Anglo Iranian Oil Company (AIOC), they
feared the possibility of an alliance between both

Net Present Value Essay
Investments are necessary for a business to grow. Although, this is true it much more valuable to
know about the value and benefit of the investment. Selecting the best investment choice will
ensure growth in the future and will generate value. The problem typically arises when trying to
utilize capital budgeting skills in determining different tasks with the same risk. There are many
ways to determine the correct return gained from investments. The (NPV) Net Present Valuehas
proven to be the best method for organizations to use. NPV gives a direct image of what can be
profited or loss when investing. This allows for the best decision to be made when selecting a
project.

Based on this method the future funds that can be potentially earned from the project have to be
larger than the starting amount of investment. At minimum the price of investment has to be
recouped from the project. In both situations there has to be a recoupment or the projects will be
abandoned because there would be too much burden on the organization with no gain. Now, if the
ROI is higher than the price of capital, only then can the choice be made. Assuming both ideas
have large ROI s then the idea with the greatest is going to be chosen. This situation is known as
hurdle rate (Damodar, 2017).
PI or Profitability Index is the method that involves the profits earned from a project. Just like
with NPV all predicted income is discounted to current rates utilizing the price of capital, usually
the discounted rate. The way that choices are made under this method is that all tasks with a
profitability index of higher than one with be chosen and anything under one will not be chosen.
This is because it is assumed that the profitability index value of larger than one lets on that the
projected cash flow will have a higher value than the starting investment. Both PI and NPV answers
will reveal similar data so, it is not sensible to utilize this method to determine the project

Middle Passage Dbq
1st Paragraph In discussions of the Atlantic Slave Trade, the term Middle Passage often arises.
The Middle Passage was the stage of the triangular trade in which millions of Africans were
shipped to the New World as part of the Atlantic Slave trade. The journey was one of the most
horrific aspects of the morally deplorable system of slavery. Death was a constant threat as diseases,
starvation, asphyxiation and severe depression rampantly claimed the lives of African and the ship
s crew. Throughout this essay you will understand the tragic journey of the slaves and what
hardships they had to go through.
2nd paragraph According to Document C, another reliable source, is an excerpt from the Slave
Ship Doctor. Alexander Falconbridge, who served as a doctor on the slave ships claims that,
Their food is served up to them in tubs, about the size of a small water bucket. They are placed
around these tubs in companies of ten... If negroes refused to take sustenance, I have seen coals of
fire, glowing hot, put on shovel, and placed so near their lips, as to scorch and burn them. This
shows that when Falconbridge was treating the slaves he figured out the reasons as to what caused
their injuries. In the Slave Ship Diagram in Document D, it portrays how the compartments in the
boat were tightened up. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In paragraph 2, it states that, First there was not enough room in the boats. They suffered from
heat, thirst, and lack of hygiene. Even the whites had difficulty with these things. This reveals how
the Africans suffered but it does not go into depth about how the whites were treated. Referring
back to Autobiography of Equiano , he included how the white person died and how they treated
him after. Based on the knowledge of slavery, we can imagine the way the Africans were being
punished, but we did not know how the whites had

Summary Of Waiting For Superman
The documentary Waiting for Superman was both informative and eye opening, as it provided
insight into problems that exist within the public school system and demonstrated how difficult the
education reform has been thus far. Specifically, the director David Guggenheim brought light to
the literacy crisis within in the United States, investigated its many causes, and discussed changes
that needed to be made in order to ensure greater academic success among children in America.
While this documentary may cause great controversy among educators due to the exposure of poor
test scores and unfit teachers, there were many great points that should be reflected on by teachers,
Speech Language Pathologists, Literacy Specialists, and others professionals who play a role in the
literacy of our youth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is the role of Speech Language Pathologists to support children who exhibit deficits in
language and literacy to increase overall success. As a Speech Language Pathology graduate student
watching the documentary, it was especially important to keep this role in mind as statistics over a
span of many years have shown that literacy scores are poor/failing in many public schools within
the United States of America. This means that many children are falling behind in literacy which is
inhibiting overall academic success, which could then translate into difficulty functioning in society
if remediation does not occur during the child s educational term. Hence, this documentary
corresponds with Loyola s childhood literacy class and it reflects on how deficits related to literacy
impacts the child s lifetime success and states the importance of intensive instruction and
intervention to improve the literacy crisis within the United

Theme Of Sex In The Sun Also Rises
The Sun Also Rises is a novel by Ernest Hemingway, which explores the post World War I life of
a group of American and British expatriates. The story follows these expatriates as they journey
from Paris to Pamplona for the Festival of San Fermin. The group indulges in wild nightlife,
which includes drinking, dancing, and watching bullfights. This lifestyle takes the characters
through the emotions of anger, fear, and regret. The lone female character of the group, Lady
Brett Ashley, is an attractive, intelligent, and carefree divorcГ©e that the men in the circle
constantly lust for. Her appeal to the men causes a great deal of sexual jealousy. The concept of
sex is a devastating force that damages the group. Sex is able to destroy relationships, people
internally, and the purpose of life for the characters.
There are many relationships in The Sun Also Rises, each one having similar qualities to the
others. Most of the relationships revolve around Lady Brett Ashley, who is very outspoken
about her love life. She has had sexual relations with many men, and has even had affairs, but
does not feel guilty about her lifestyle. The narrator of the story, Jake Barnes, is very attracted to
Brett, and Brett has mutual feelings about Jake. However, Jake is impotent, because of a wound
he received from serving in World War I. Although Jake and Brett love each other, Brett s sexual
desire is too strong for her to abandon for Jake. She would not be able to leave her sex life, not

Comparing Bachelors
Melissa Grant Carol Copenhefer GENR 091 A 02 AUGUST 2016 Comparing Bachelors to
Maids A well known author Herman Melville grew up with a very large family in New York; he
was one of eight children (Merriman). The Melville family was very famous along with being
well respected (Merriman). Herman s father enjoyed telling stories to his children, from terror to
sea life, along with adventure, there was never a dull moment in story time. In Melville s story
there is definitely a sense of adventure, from temples as large as a city, to the Woedlor Mountains
of New England (Merriman). After his father s passing Herman and his family moved from New
York to the banks of the Hudson River. Giving Melville the peace and quiet needed to write
several chapters and essays (Merriman) He continued to write to the very end of his life not
limited to the above, but included short stories (Merriman). Moving back home he later began
writing poetry. In the beginning of The Paradise of Bachelors and the Tartarus of Maids there
presumed to me a formal dinner consisting of several single men. Both proud and ambitious their
faces like horn book missals. (Melville) These men, known as bachelors, were partaking in reserved

of the story, the evening was enjoyable and very adult

Skateboarding Memoir
Another memoir? It feels like the teachers in every grade meet and come up with the same
assignments. It s pointless. At least it s like a free period. It s why I sat in the back. I can be
fully secluded and do what I want, even though it s a large open library. Jam out, watch some
videos, whatever. I won t do well on this paper or in this class, but forget it. School just doesn t
seem important compared to anything else in my life. In every class I just sit and think of all the
better things I could be doing. Why do I have to be stuck here? I should just walk out. My life has
just been going downhill for the past few years. Who would wantto write about that? Nonetheless
have somebody read it. A few minutes ago, my teacher asked why I didn t... Show more content on

I m in the library so I m sure they won t care too much that I m reading instead of doing actual
work. Aside from music, skateboarding is the other half of my life. I ve probable written more
stories about it than music. I don t have an end goal in it, I just love it. It s fun weather I m
progressing or not ; chilling or trying some banger. But just as music goes, it takes up so much
time. It s always one of the two. Thinking of guitar riffs in math, thinking of some handrail to
grind in Physics. The skatepark is right near the school too. Every period I walk past a door and
consider going for it. I m actually getting kind of good too. It s torture, I just picture the
progression I could be making. Landing new tricks, stacking some decent clips, it s awesome.
Not to mention all the hemies. They hype it up and then everything just turns into a party. I ve
always wanted to go on a music/skate tour. One of my bands would hop in a van and go touring
playing shows. Along the way we d skate, hit spots and try and make a short video edit. That
would be the dream life... Sadly I m stuck in school. Not to mention all the other things eating up
my time. Although there s things I enjoy, there s things I m not fond of like work. My job isn t
the worst. The pay is fair, the people are kind. Although if I didn t needmoney in life I wouldn t be
wasting my time. Who would? Then there s any work my family gives me. They don t usually
give me work, but that s why I do it. Aside from that there s all the school work outside of school.
It seems some teachers are beginning to understand that we have lives to live and that no one does
homework. It s all just pointless busy work

What Is The Influence Of Elizabeth Cady Stanton On Women s...
As the daughter of an attorney who often expressed a strong preference for his sons, she made
clear, early on, a desire to thrive in all intellectual and other male dominated realms. Following the
devastating death of her last surviving brother, she declared that she would work hard to achieve
all that her brother had accomplished and beyond. In spite of her efforts, however, her
unremorseful father simply responded that he wished she was born a boy. This was the life of
Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Displeased with the prejudiced attitudes towards women and fueled by her
passion for genderequality, she was determined to break free from confinement in order to pave the
way for women of future generations. The history of the past is but one long struggle upward to
equality, the activist shared.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, she engaged in a variety of social movements prominent during the period of her youth.
In the mid 1800 s, Stanton married a fellow abolitionist she had encountered through her
involvement in early temperance and anti slavery movements. However, while her husband traveled
regularly to speak and write about social issues, Stanton found herself restricted to the domestic
positions of mother and wife. Dissatisfied with her limited roles, she took it upon herself to actively
re engage in the temperance, abolitionist and most importantly, women s rights communities. While
she still devoted a great amount of time and dedication towards her family, she worked to establish
relationships with other like minded women. For the rest of her life, Elizabeth Cady Stanton would
spend her time advocating for women s suffrage, increased economic opportunities, and gender
neutral divorce laws, among many others that remain prevalent even to this

Pros And Cons Of Minimum Voting Age
Imagine a world where the potential leaders of the nation were casual about Tax reforms, health
care amendments and Day Care policies. Imagine that in this world the future leaders were more
concerned with increasing Lady Gaga, BeyoncГ© and Drake performances or with casual matters
like getting your parents to buy you an iPhone, Canadian Goose jackets, and Lululemon pants. A
minimum votingage should be rejected because its view on competency raises irrational controversy
among the voting population.
People at 16 have difficulty with understanding complex long term consequences over short term
and so they should not be allowed to vote. 16 year old are too immature to think about the
consequences of their votes. They might be allowed to work, drive and make decisions about
their future like if they want to go to university, but they are prone to undue influence from their
parents, teachers and friends. People at 16 have not fully formed their ideas about their political
ideology. Letting 16 year olds vote would make them susceptible to pressure from their parents to
vote a certain way and this would give extra votes to people jeopardizing the country s democracy.
People at 16 are thirsting for confirmation and they like to get rewarded for the accomplishments;
parents would be inclined to buy gifts for their children if they vote a certain way and politics
would become an even dirtier game. Not only are 16 year olds not mature and informed enough to
vote, they also have

Self-Acquaintance And John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill
For our second week of school, we learned about the different Puritan ideals and how they
influenced our society today. In this essay, I will discuss one of those many ideals and provide
evidence to defend that it is, indeed, a Puritanical ideal that can be found in many early colonial
pieces of literature, such as Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, Here followes some verses
upon the burning of our house, July 10th, 1666 by Anne Bradstreet, and John Winthrop s City
Upon A Hill, 1630. Loyalty to God, or faith, is a Puritanideal.
Faith is a Puritan ideal as shown in many early colonial works. In Self Acquaintance by William
Cooper, the speaker begins to question his faith before stating, Oh, cleanse me in a Saviour s
blood,/Transform me by thy pow r,/And make me thy beloved abode,/And let me rove no more.
As he begins to wander from his faith, he cries out to God, his Saviour, to cleanse him from the sin
of doubting his faith. In Anne Bradstreet s Here followes some verses upon the burning of our

Rick Perry
Rick Perry
In Section 1 of Article II of the United States Constitution, it is stated that the president is
allowed to serve four years before the election process is once again re initiated. Accordingly,
every four years, new presidential candidates pop up in hopes of becoming the next President of
the United States. 2012 is such a year, and one of the candidates was Rick Perry.
It is interesting to note that when Rick Perry first entered the political scene, becoming elected to
the Texas House of Representatives in 1984, his party affiliation was as a Democrat. It was only
in 1989 that Rick Perry announced he was switching parties and became a Republican. In 1990,
after serving six years (three terms) on the Texas Legislature, he ... Show more content on

This alternative includes restructuring federal Medicaid funding and making it easier for citizens to
afford the health coverage that their employer provides.
Many of Rick Perry s decisions assert his support of the 10th amendment, but perhaps the most
monumental indicator may be his book, Fed Up! in which he accuses the federal system of being a
tyrannical government that takes too much power from the states and stresses repetitively that the
states matter more. In his preface, he emphasizes, I believe that states are critical components of our
federal system of government, that the Founders recognized their importance, and that empowering
the states is the best way to ensure our God given right to live according to the dictates of our
consciences. To sum it up, Rick Perry s core belief is that giving state governments the freedom to
regulate their economy, business, health care, and education on their own without government
intrusion is the only way to go.
When it comes to domestic issues, in particular the economy, Rick Perry may have had some
ideas worth listening to. There were many reasons why American citizens would have been very
pleased with his economic plan and its policies: lower taxes, more jobs, a balanced budget, and a
more responsible, capable government. In an editorial he wrote for the Wall Street Journal in
October 2011, he explains the tax and spending reform plan that would come to define him

Illusions Is An Exhibition At Casa Daros
Illusions is an exhibition at Casa Daros, a gallery dedicated to Latin American contemporary art.
The exhibition explores the idea of illusion and art as illusion (fig. 5), with a focus on artists such
as Luis Camnitzer. The Illusions website explores this theme by creating illusions of space, depth
and movement in a virtual space. The website itself functions as an illusion; although objects and
images fly towards the viewer in a resemblance of the three dimensional, they are still only two
dimensional images in two dimensional space. In comparison to The Curious Gardener,
Illusions also uses parallax scrolling to enable the objects to fly towards and away from the
viewer as they scroll through the website (fig. 6). This gives the user the ability to drive and
control the illusions that they are seeing, becoming an active participator in the exhibition. This
use of parallax motion and depth is being used to innovatively explore objects, ornaments,
artworks and furniture, not only in cultural heritage but in a variety of institutions. A cutting edge
example of how parallax scrolling can be used to display objects is Sony s Be Moved (fig. 7). It
is a detailed and technical website that pushes the boundaries of animation and parallax motion as
cameras, laptops and other forms of technical equipment come apart and are re built as the user
scrolls, showing the intricacy and craftsmanship of the objects interiors. Metal, plastic and wires fly

Plant Mitochondri Cytochrome Oxidase And The Cyanide...
Plant mitochondria include two terminal oxidases: cytochrome oxidase and the cyanide insensitive
alternative oxidase. Electron partitioning between the two pathways is regulated by the redox
equilibrium of the ubiquinone pool and the activation state of the alternative oxidase. The
alternative oxidase appears to exist as a dimer, which is active in the reduced, noncovalently linked
form, and inactive when in the oxidized, covalently linked form. Reduction of the oxidase in
detached tobacco mitochondria occurs upon oxidation of isocitrate or malate and may be mediated
by matrix NAD(P)H. The energy of the reduced oxidase is influenced by certain other organic
acids, notably pyruvate, which appear to interact directly with the enzyme. Pyruvate alters the
interaction between the alternative oxidase and ubiquinol so that the oxidase becomes active at
much lower levels of ubiquinol and competes with the cytochrome pathway for electrons. These
will be further explored in this piece.
Cyanide resistant respiration was found toward the beginning of the twentieth century as a
singularity in thermogenic plants in the middle of anthesis and was later seen to be a regular
highlight of plant respiration. The think of respiration impenetrable to cyanide is related with the
closeness in the respiratory chain of an supplemental terminal oxidase alternative oxidase (AOX).
The closeness of AOX in higher plant mitochondria propose an intriguing, favorable exchange
regarding its title in vivo

Comparing The Integumentary System And Reproductive System
1. Integumentary System and Reproductive System
Several systems work alongside the integumentary system to keep the body functioning properly.
For instance, the integumentary system and the reproductive system are dependent on each other.
The skin, an organ of the integumentary system, protects the organs of the reproductive system,
such as the uterus. The mammary glands, highly modified glands that are part of the integumentary
system, provide milk for an infant after its birth. Skin stretches to accommodate a growing fetus in
the uterus as well. The reproductive system has many functions that aid the integumentary system.

gonadal hormones stimulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The respiratory system carries out gas exchange; it provides oxygen and disposes of carbon
dioxide from the blood. The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from the right
ventricle to the lungs where the carbon dioxide is removed and oxygen is put in. The blood then
travels back to the heart where it is pumped throughout the body through arteries. Carbon dioxide
in the form of carbonic acid and bicarbonate contribute to blood buffering so the pH level of the
blood resists changes. The circulatory system delivers oxygen provided by the respiratory system
throughout the body via arteries, such as the aorta. Veins, such as the superior vena cava and the

Introduction Following the ministry of Jesus here on earth, the several accounts were recorded
in the first four books of the bible. The gospel, as they were referred to have similarities in all
aspects and they tend to contain similar stories of Christ s mission compared to one another. In
spite of that, it is only the first three books of the gospel that actually follows a certain order and
appears similar; that is Mathew, Mark and Luke. Interestingly, the fourth book of the gospel gives
the accounts of the gospel of Christ on a different manner. It is more of the spiritual effect of Christ
s mission on earth as opposed to the normal narration of the events .
There is a record of the fourth gospel of called John in the Christian bible and is among the
conical gospels in the bible. People also call the book the Fourth Gospel because it is the last
recorded gospel book. The book gives an eye witness experience to the miracles of Jesus during
his lifetime, in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus (Michaels 2010). It paints a clearer picture

F. Skinner s Operant Conditioning Theory
Burrhus F. Skinner or more commonly known as B. F. Skinner is regarded as one of the most
influential psychologists in the world by his peers. In comparison to other behaviorist Skinners
approach was referred to as radical behaviorism. Behaviorist search to find answers to how humans
behave through observations in the environment not in the mind ( Conversation 1973). Specifically,
B. F. Skinnerwas not interested in theories that involve speculation, but more importantly theories
that could be proven with explicit definitions and findings. His operant conditioningapproach
controlled behavior. B. F. Skinner s operant conditioning approach includes but is not limited to
shaping, reinforcements, and punishments. One subject that is intertwined in all areas of study and
everyday life is mathematics. Often times, math is one of the hardest concepts for people to grasp.
In regards to B. F. Skinner s operant conditioning theory, mathematics can be learned in the
classroom through shaping, reinforcement, and punishment. Shaping is primarily used to train
animals because it reinforces behaviors that are out of the ordinary. By the same token,
mathematics is foreign to humans it is not something that humans know how to do naturally. The
complex numbers are not easily grasped and the very same techniques used to teach a dog to ride
a bike can be implemented into a lesson to teach a child multiplication or division. Complex

Essay On Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Sleep is very important to live; it is one of many elements that help keep human beings alive. The
dictionary defines sleep as the natural periodic suspension of consciousness during which the
powers of the body are restored (Webster 638). However, there is a percentage of the population
that has difficulty achieving and maintaining Stage 4, the stage that lets both the body and mind
fall into a deep sleep, in their sleep pattern. Stage 4 of sleep is also known as REM sleep. At the
bottom of this difficulty, to fall asleep is a known condition called obstructive sleep apnea(OSA)
that is defined as a serious, potentially life threatening condition that is far more common than
generally understood (Citation). Obstructive sleep apnea can be very treacherous if it is not
properly detected or treated. Research shows that 1 in 15 Americans or eighteen million Americans
suffer from the threatening effects of sleep apnea, in which flow of oxygen to vital organs is
reduced and irregular heart rhythms occur (Sleepdex 1). Sleep apnea happens in two different...

MLK Servant Leader
Servant Leader MLK vs. Servant Leader Honest Abe Throughout the centuries, there have been
many servant leaders that changed the world in their own different ways. MLK and Abraham
Lincoln used the servant leader characteristic, commitment to the people by giving everything
they have for the people. Abe and MLK also used conceptualization to help people dream big
dreams. Lastly, MLK and Lincoln used persuasion to help non believers to join the cause. They
both used the same servant leader characteristics, but the way they used the characteristic was
different. Committing to the growth of the people is a servant leader characteristic that mean the
servant leader is selfless in their acts to the cause they are supporting. Martin Luther King, Jr.
committed himself to the growth people by giving his time to personal life to help brake the
segregation. This is noticeable through all the events he was part of and all the speeches he shared

wrong decision from Parle can have daring consequences for their flagship product Parle G.
The dilemma of December 2009:
A price hike seemed like a necessity to restore the margins; a hike in the price had the potential to
increase the margin by 50% and to restore the previous level of 15%. But the previous experience
of price hike had already given a bad experience to Parle. The problem with Parle is its VFM image,
companies build brand equity in order to deflect the focus of customers from the price. They don t
mind loosening their wallets for a brand which delivers a value on a dimension perceived by them.
Parley needs to come out of its perilous VFM image and secondly the dependence on a single brand

Maximal Oxygen Consumption And The Oxygen
Maximal oxygen consumption or VO2 max refers to the single maximum oxygen consumption that
an individual can utilize during graded intensity exercise. VO2 max can be assessed through
properly administered submaximal oxygen consumption test which can include exercise test modes
of treadmill, cycle ergometer or step test. In an individual, VO2 maxcan be determined by the
cardiovascular system s ability to deliver oxygenated bloodto working muscles and then the muscle
s ability to extract that oxygen from the blood and generate energy for work. Influencing factors
can include genetics, decline of VO2 max with aging, and finally aerobic training can positively
influence an individual s VO2 max and overall aerobic fitness. Individuals with high VO2 maxes
often have greater overall aerobic fitness, which includes high efficiency, or running economy,
better glycogen storage and is often an indicator of success when completing aerobic tasks of
over 20 minutes. On the contrary, a low VO2 max can predict poor overall aerobic fitness which
can include cardiovascular disease and problems with transporting oxygen to working muscles. (3)
In these laboratory exercise test, submaximal intensity exercises were used to determine an
individual s predicted VO2 max which allowed the assessment of their overall aerobic fitness and
the ability to compare the correlations between tests. Before performing any submaximal exercise
test, the individual should be in the proper state of mine

Funerals, Ruals And Funerals
Funerals and the accompanying ceremonies and rituals are as diverse as the people who perform
them. I was raised Roman Catholic and have had first hand experience with the tradition of
receiving the Sacrament of Last Rights before a person dies. When I was seven years old, I had an
emergency appendectomy that was done laparoscopically. Ten days after surgery
, I became very ill
with a high fever, vomiting, and intense abdominal pains. My mother rushed me to the hospital
where I was admitted and taken to the operating room for an emergency surgery. While in
surgery, they discovered I had a surgical infection in my lower right quadrant. They ran my
bowel and found a lump in my mesentery, but they could not biopsy it because it was too close
to a major artery. After surgery, I was recovering well and looking forward to going home. On
my third day post operation, I was difficult to rouse and eventually became unresponsive with my
heart rate dropping to eight beats per minute. I was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit where I
was given Last Rights by the hospital priest because they did not think I was going to make it
through the night. I do not remember receiving the sacrament that night, but I do remember the
second time. Things got a little better, but then I started hemorrhaging from my nose. That,
combined with my blood loss from surgery, resulted in me needing a blood transfusion. I
received Last Rights for a second time after the central line was placed. I remember the priest
making a cross on my forehead and the palms of my hand. He prayed and blessed my soul so that if
I were to die, I could go to Heaven. I remember feeling a sense of calm, but that could have been
the narcotics. The idea of blessing someone before deathto ensure that they get to heaven is
interesting to me. It almost seems as though you can live your life as sinfully as you want to but
when the time comes, if you confess and repent, then all is forgiven. That is quite odd to me. It is
interesting to have had Last Rights twice and still be alive. It makes me wonder if God decided it
was not my time. Despite the priest s best attempts to bless my soul for the journey to heaven.

Reverse Engineering A brilliant method of taking an object apart and disassembling all of its

Many businesses use reverse engineering to take apart a current product and find alternate ways of
making it work by cutting out old techniques and introducing new ones in order to cut down on
the cost of the product. The Japanese used reverse engineering in the 1950 s after Texas
instruments of Dallas had built the first transistors to recreate their own they did it legally and
they obtained the paperwork that gave them the right to make their own transistors, the Japanese
company that did this is Sony. Shortly after entering the market Sony of Japan had easily over

a journey to reach enlightenment. Through his many realizations occurring in stages and phases,
Siddhartha experienced emotional, mental and physical changes. These stages marked the journey
Siddhartha underwent, and the destined metamorphism developed as he followed the path of
enlightenment.
In Siddhartha s first phase, Siddhartha, a wealthy Brahmin found that even though everyone loved
him, he could not bring himself joy and please himself (Hesse). This discontent was spurred by the
fact that the wise Brahmins had shared the majority and the best of their wisdom with him; yet, he
was not satisfied nor did this quench his thirst for knowledge but only fueled it (Hesse). Questions
arose, about sacrifices, happiness and Atman, did he who possessed so much wisdom live a blessed
life (Hesse)? At this moment in Siddhartha s life, he was without peace and he wanted to find
answers to these many questions. Focused and hellbent on the journey to enlightenment, Siddhartha
made an audacious decision to go to the Samanas [and] become a Samana (Hesse). Through hours

Character Analysis Of Linda Loman In Arthur Miller s Death...
Encircled by dreams which she does not desire; actions which impinge themselves into her life;
feelings which only have an affect when it is too late for anyone to sympathize with you. This is
the life of Linda Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman. Although a relatively minor
character in light of the screenplay s title man, Willy Loman, Linda advances the plot of the story
in a fashion which was wholly necessary. Being the spouse of Mr. Loman lead Linda to exposit
much needed information throughout the play, and this leads to a characterization of the woman
herself. She is Willy s one and only crutch in times where the man seems to become nothing more
than a double amputee. Linda is the character Miller uses to complete his masterpiece, and as
such, allows the reader to fully digest the story of a man who had the common dream of all
Americans: the American Dream. Through it all, Linda stood up to the menial position she is
placed within, and retains the courage of her convictions. Linda Loman serves an integral purpose
to Death of a Salesman, in a fashion which is contradictory to the strength of her character: the
meek nature which she displays. The character of Linda Loman is one whose quiet words speak
louder than her actions. As such, her physical actions cannot define her due to the small part she
occupies in Death of a Salesman. Having learned of Happy s, her son s, true feelings towards her
beloved husband, she pours her heart out to him saying, No. You

Traditionally, the low performing label has been applied with a broad brush to bad schools
having a wide range of perceived deficiencies: low academic expectations and achievement, high
dropout rates, lack of discipline, inadequate facilities, and demoralized staff (Lashway, 2003). The
federal government with the indoctrination of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) provided an official
definition of chronically low performing schools. The definition consist of schools that have not
met their Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) in reading and math over a four year period. The newly

Organizations need ideas, energy, and talent; people need careers, salaries, and opportunities.
Political views organization as a complex web of individual and group interests. Symbolic

2003). The leadership component concentrates on the principals role in executing the strategic plan.
Phase I (symbolic) will focus on a needs assessment of the school. Phase II (structural) aligns the
planning and development around the needs of the school. Phase III (human resource) covers the
implementation of the areas covered in the planning and development stage. Phase IV (political) is

Leadership is vital to the effectiveness of a school. James Burns, the founder of modern leadership
theory discusses the ideal of transformational leadership. Transformational leaders form a
relationship of mutual stimulation and elevation that converts followers into leaders and leaders
into moral agents (Burns, 1978, p. 4). Four factors characterize the behavior of transformational
leaders: individual consideration, intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation, and idealized
influence (Bass, 1985). Individual consideration characterized by

The Meaning Of The Assault Weapons
The public does not know the proper federal meaning of the assault weapon entirely. The abridged
definition of the assault weapon is that it is the semi automatic firearm similar to the military
defense. In the semi automatic assault weapon, the trigger is pulled for every shot before the rifle
releases the shell to send the new round that prepares the gun for the second shot (Jacobs 681). The
military riflehas some slight differences from the semi automatic riflesince it has the mechanics,
which lets the fire bullets constantly up to the time that the clip finishes the ammo. After pulling
the trigger, the rifle will fire without ending. The US government has regulated the assault weapons
massively since 1934, yet it does not address it in legislation prohibition.
In contrary, it is inevitable that the US government may ban the assault weapons from the civilian
use based on the current situation (Fox Monica 125). This issue is very disappointing since the
current survey indicates that the Americans never favor the ban on the assault weapons despite the
fact that they support the strong laws on the gun control. The issue raised has raised a considerable
debate on whether the government should ban the assault weapon or not. Some people support the
idea while others oppose it.
The evidence to support this issue is that the initial point of view involves the logical standpoint of
possessing the assault weapon. The design of the assault weapon is to kill various things

Essay about Islam has Raised the Status of Women
The dowry, previously regarded as a bride price paid to the father, became a nuptial gift retained
by the wife as part of her personal property (Fanar). This quote sums up the transition of women
from being property to an individual person. Women used to be sold and purchased, but Islam
raised the status of the women within a society that never thought much of the female. In the past,
certain societies believed marriage was nothing more than a status symbol. Women were thought
of producing children and establishing a man s family tree. During pre Islamic Arabia, women had
no rights and were not considered equal members of society. They were given no respect, and

Islam grants woman equal rights to contract, to enterprise, to earn and possess independently.
Her life, her property, her honor are as sacred as those of man. If she commits any offense, her
penalty is no less or more than of man s in a similar case. If she is wronged or harmed, she gets
due compensations equal to what a man in her position would get (Qur an 2:178; 4:45, 92 93).
The Qur an states that women are given the right to participate in business and to own things
independently, which is a very important statement. This verse shows that women are
considered independent from a man, and are free to do as they please in an Islamic manner.
Furthermore, it goes on to states if a women makes any kind of mistake, its punishment will be
of equal measure to a man. When it comes to work, women are given a choice to work or not.
Also, if they decide to work, their money is for them to keep and they do not have to use it
toward financial expenses (Badawi). Islam changed the status of women in Arabia when it came
to owning land and working. Before Islam was preached in Arabia, women were not given a
choice who they were to marry; usually ending up being forced into a marriage. They were
basically sold off to a suitor, and their previous family identity was stripped away from them. They
became dependent on their husband, and given very little chances at freedom. However, Islam
aimed to change the injustice by allowing women to have a choice in

A Midsummer Night s Dream Real
Was this play really just a story of entertainment created by a figment of your imagination? Was

Circadian Rhythms
Increasing evidence suggests that there is highly regulated relationship between immune function,
sleep, and circadian rhythms. Understanding this complex relationship is clinically relevant because
desynchronization of circadian rhythms and disruptions in sleep are associated with higher
likelihood of disease. It has been demonstrated that there is a bidirectional flux of circadian
information between the immune and neuroendocrine system (Mavroudis, Scheff, Calvano,
Androulakis, 2012). The interactions between these two systems work in concert to optimize
immune responses that are vital in down regulating diseases. Outside factors, such as shift work,
chronic stress, and inherited diseases can disrupt these interactions. The entrainment... Show more

The Tempest Analysis
The Tempest aims to be a catalyst for the audience to understand the power of knowledge and
understanding. The play does this in many ways, but it most clearly seen when analyzing character
relationship and employed language. To examine this, it is best to look at two key passages:
Prospero s introduction to the island and the epilogue. The play opens with a tempest, and in the
next scene the audience is introduced to Prospero: who at this point is revealed to be the
orchestrator of such storm. Immediately the viewer can sense his power, and no quicker do
they find out the source of this power: knowledge. Prospero proclaims while explaining how
Miranda and he came to the island, I thus neglecting worldly ends, and all dedicated / To
closeness and the bettering of my mind (1.2.89 90). Prospero explicitly informs his daughter,
Miranda, that while he was Duke of Milan he was far more dedicated to knowledge than he was
being a ruler. Shortly after this, Prospero uses these key lines:
Knowing I loved my books, he furnished me
From mine own library with volumes that
I prize above my Dukedom. (1.2.166 168)
Again, this section is Prospero showcasing that he loved knowledge more than he loved being a
part of the ruling class. The importance of this is that Prospero is giving the audience insight into
how he gains his power, but what is this power used to do: to control the actions that are shaping
history. Winners write history is a phrase commonly heard in the twenty first

The Campaign Of The Star Wars Expanded Universe Billboard...
Greetings everyone!
Talk about a busy week so far for the Star Wars Expanded Universe Billboard Project! We are
thrilled to see so many of you Expanded Universe fans just finding us for the first time this week!
Great to have you all!
While I would love to stay on a positive note, as this campaign s administrator I feel obligated to
address some of the concerns and criticisms our campaign has received over the past three days.
Those being, that our efforts do not have the money nor the amount of people to cause the change
we are after to occur, that the money we raised should have all gone to charity and finally that we
need to get our house in order.
To address the first criticism, that the money we raised and the numbers ... Show more content on

Next, consider that this campaign was run entirely by fans who, until this week, most of you have
never even heard of. Let s face it, most of you still don t know much about any one of the people
behind this campaign. So consider that, at the time of the fundraiser, people knew even less. What
guarantee was there that we would do what we claimed we would do? I know several within the
Expanded Universe Movement at varying levels of involvement were openly asking why they
would trust a crowdfunding effort headed by random people from within the movement. After all,
crowdfunding has had a rocky history at times. While our team did its best to reassure people
that we would install a billboard in San Francisco, we were unable to give the certainty that more
well known individuals would have been capable of giving. Too, we had our hands tied on even
releasing the location of the billboard during the fundraiser because of various threats and potential
obstacles aimed at our efforts.
Finally consider that our community on the internet is not all encompassing of every Expanded
Universe fan in the world. Someone had to purchase enough books to give all those legends
stories best seller status! So considering that, even our maximum reach, in the ideal time with
everyone having money to give and everyone believing we would do as we said, it still only
represents a small

Race And Manifest Destiny Analysis
Reginald Horsman argues in Race and Manifest Destiny: The Origins of American Racial Anglo
Saxonism that the idea of racial inferiority gained it s full connotation during the beginning of the
18th century to the mid 19th century. I was then used as a justification for Indigenous genocide,
the theft of Mexican land, and slavery. I personally liked how he was able to draw from the
origins of this ideology in which he talked about how Anglo Saxonism wasn t always racially
motivated. According to Horsman, Anglo Saxonism had to do with mainly English heritage and
was implemented within politics and history. Eventually however it became a racially motivated
ideology that through the rise of what he calls scientific racialism which was heavily

What Are The Methods Used To Analyze The Results Of The...
Some of the methods used to analyze the results of the PREDIMED trial includes Cox
proportional hazard modeling to compute hazard ratios for each Mediterranean diet and the control
group outcomes.3 The hazard ratios for the primary endpoints were 0.70 (95% confidence interval
[CI]:0.53 0.91) for both Mediterranean with EVOO and 0.70 (95% CI:0.53 0.94) for the
Mediterranean dietwith mixed nuts, where a ratio that is 1 is interpreted an unlikely rate that the

The media article also seems to be misleading because it states that the diet helped those at risk for
heart disease even if they could not lose weight. To a person who has not read the PREDIMED trial
or does not have a good background in biology, this can be easily misinterpreted that it is okay to
be overweight. In fact, research shows that obesity is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.2,7
Therefore, people who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease should also give importance
to a good diet as well as a healthy lifestyle and weight management. Other risk factors should also
be eliminated in order to successfully improve cardiovascular health. The media article also
mentions the primary endpoints that were used in the trial. Kolata states that the researchers in the
PREDIMED trial did not look at risk factors such as cholesterol, hypertension, and weight.6 Even
though the researchers did not measure these risk factors at the primary endpoint, they did fill out
a baseline questionnaire prior to participant enrollment relating to these risk factors. The hazard
ratios were also adjusted for these risk factors twice.3 The media article also puts an emphasis on

Torque
Torque of a car is very important to its performance. Torque is the measure of how much force is
acting on an object and how that causes the object to rotate. (What is torque). Rotating the wheels
of a car is torque and that helps the car get up to speed faster. Many performance cars have very
fast 0 60 mph speeds, like the corvette, challenger and exotic cars like the Porsche, Bentley, Ashton
Martin etc. Everyone wants to know exactly what torque does; it is basically the amount of turning
power you have, basically like using a wrench. When looking at car specifications, the torque that is
shown is the maximum torque of the internal combustion engine.
The torque can tell a lot about how fast can actually accelerate. For example, if 500 newton
meters is the toque that the tires experience, the mass of a typical car is 1500 kg, and the
distance between the center of mass of the car and the wheels rotational axis is about 20 cm, the
moment of inertia I about 60 kg. Therefore the acceleration of the car is 4.25 m/s^2, meaning it
can go 0 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. (What does torque in a car do).
Car racing is a big part of torque; rotational motion in automobile racing is when the wheel turns
through revolutions throughout the race. The motor rotates in what is called as RPM. Each time a
tire rotates; the car moves the distance equal to the circumference of the tire. The distance a car

Newell Company Case Study
Newell Company was established in 1902 by Edgar A. Newell after he purchased a brass curtain
rods manufacturer. From brass curtain rods, Newell then became a manufacturer for both home and
hardware products (Montgomery, 2005). Over time, the organization developed a two pronged
approach to strategy. The two approaches included; following an established acquisition process
(Newellization) and progression over the company s multiple divisions. Newellization can be
described as the process the acquired company goes through in order to be faster and more efficient
while also incorporating the items into their current product line. Through the years, instead of

guaranteeing corporate progression over the company s multiple divisions.
Rubbermaid
By 1998, Newell was considering a merger with Rubbermaid Incorporated to form a new company,
Newell Rubbermaid Incorporated. The purchase was a tax free exchange of 0.7883 shares of
Newell stock for each share of Rubbermaid (Montgomery, 2005, p. 12). Prior to the acquisition of
Rubbermaid, Newell had three major product groupings: Hardware and Home Furnishings,
Office Products, and Housewares (Montgomery, 2005). Adding Rubbermaid to Newell s product
line would allow them the opportunity to sell a wide range of products which would now
include plastic products, ranging from housewares to toys. McDonough expected, Newell to be
able to apply its established process of acquiring, streamlining, and managing smaller companies
to this large one (Montgomery, 2005, p. 12). However, an unexpected change in the market
occurred on the day of the acquisition. Newell s closing price on Tuesday before the deal was
$49.063, valuing Rubbermaid s shares at 49% over its closing price of $25.875 (Montgomery,
2005). Immediately after the deal, Newell s shares fell to $43.875 while Rubbermaid s shares

Our company will have an added edge if we make the right move now and it will help us to
capture the wealthy market. This new show runs alongside The Big 5 and will focus on interior fit
out products. That means it will cover everything from bathrooms and kitchens, to the individual
products and materials that are necessary to create original interior designs and fit outs.
The other reasons for choosing The Big 5 Kuwait International Fair is that, the country has a large,
modern, exhibition facility readymade to host exhibitions of all sizes, as well as present conference
events. Kuwait s economy too has a significant influence. The country has the highest budget
surplus as a percentage of GDP of any Gulf state at 25 percent and this budget is earmarked for
spending on housing, infrastructure and healthcare. This creates huge opportunities for exhibitions
and conferences that address these subjects (Mellor, 2015).
But our experience is telling us there is a huge demand and enthusiasm from local businesses.

Sunni Shia Conflict Essay
Saudi Arabia and Iran
Saudi Arabia considers itself to be the Protector of Islam as they contain Mecca and Medina as
well as oversee the Hajj. The Sunnis are the dominate form of Islam in Saudi and its main branch
is called Wahhabism. It is a very strict form of Islam that is based on the literal interpretation of
the Qur an and allows for no other versions of Islam, like Shiism (StevenAU 2004). Iran has long
been defined as the central power of Shiism especially following the 1979 Islamic revolution. Both
nations are capable of polarizing the Middle East. The Saudis are allied with other Gulf monarchies,
Jordan, parts of Northern Africa, and Morocco under Sunni guidance. Iran is connected to Syria,

The Shia minorities in Saudi Arabia are seeking equal rights and representation within their
governments. In Saudi Arabia the oppressive tactics against the Shia takes the form of exclusion
from jobs, lack of Shia places of worship, and a ban on their holy days like Ashura. In some cases
the Wahhabi Sunni harass Shias making the pilgrimage to Mecca, which is a required act for all
able Muslims (Jaffar 2013). The Saudi Senior Ulema Council, the country s religious council, has
no Shia representation. This council passes laws that uphold only Sunni authority exacerbating
the sense of discrimination Shia feel. The schools teach both Shia and Sunni but the information
about the Shia is derogatory and in some cases they are labeled as rawafidh, or rejectionist,
which is a very insulting term to Muslims (Wehrey 2013). The Saudi monarchy has used anti Shia
tactics as a way to keep its Sunni clerics happy as well as shift blame for unpopular actions. These
terms and tactics are tied to lingering suspicions dating back to the Iranian Revolution of 1979.
That Iran is possibly seeking to cause such a revolt in Saudi Arabia and has agents contributing to
the protests occurring within Shia dominated regions (Wehrey 2013).
Sunnis living in Iran are also feeling the effects of discrimination. They have been prohibited from
celebrating Islamic holy days inside mosques in Tehran. Sunnis

The Iranian Revolution............................................................................ Establishing the Islamic Republic of Iran........................................................ Iran under the Ayatollahs......................................................................... Bibliography....................................................................................... Iran under the Pahlavi Monarchy For many centuries such as the early 1500 s, Iran has been an islamic state consisting of Shiites majority, ruled by the Qajar dynasty (1796 1925). However, in the early 1920 s during a time of instability in Iran, Reza Khan (1878 1944), an officer was able to overthrow the Qajar dynasty and crown himself as the shah in 1925. With it s next door neighbor Turkey already modernized, Reza had ambitions for Iran; he wanted to modernize Iran as well , that being he wanted to bring change within the nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reza shah was also able to lay out his plans which consisted of implementing infrastructure projects, building a railroad system, establishing a public education system, as well as developing huge industries and overall improving the health care system, and finally reforming the judiciary branch in Iran. With all these reforms at work, Reza shah was able to turn Iran into an industrialized nation; though by mid 1930 s many religious and intellectual elites were dissatisfied by the shah s dictatorial ways in Iran; thus foreshadowing the coming introduction of Ayatollah Khomeini against the modernized idealism of Reza shah. During World War II, Iran s oil resources alone played a factor in overthrowing the shah (Reza), which is analyzed by Mohammad Gholi Majd in his book, Great Britain and Reza Shah: The Plunder of Iran, 1921 1941 . With Great Britain being the majority holder of the Anglo Iranian Oil Company (AIOC), they feared the possibility of an alliance between both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Net Present Value Essay Investments are necessary for a business to grow. Although, this is true it much more valuable to know about the value and benefit of the investment. Selecting the best investment choice will ensure growth in the future and will generate value. The problem typically arises when trying to utilize capital budgeting skills in determining different tasks with the same risk. There are many ways to determine the correct return gained from investments. The (NPV) Net Present Valuehas proven to be the best method for organizations to use. NPV gives a direct image of what can be profited or loss when investing. This allows for the best decision to be made when selecting a project. Health Care Financial Management All important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on this method the future funds that can be potentially earned from the project have to be larger than the starting amount of investment. At minimum the price of investment has to be recouped from the project. In both situations there has to be a recoupment or the projects will be abandoned because there would be too much burden on the organization with no gain. Now, if the ROI is higher than the price of capital, only then can the choice be made. Assuming both ideas have large ROI s then the idea with the greatest is going to be chosen. This situation is known as hurdle rate (Damodar, 2017). PI or Profitability Index is the method that involves the profits earned from a project. Just like with NPV all predicted income is discounted to current rates utilizing the price of capital, usually the discounted rate. The way that choices are made under this method is that all tasks with a profitability index of higher than one with be chosen and anything under one will not be chosen. This is because it is assumed that the profitability index value of larger than one lets on that the projected cash flow will have a higher value than the starting investment. Both PI and NPV answers will reveal similar data so, it is not sensible to utilize this method to determine the project (Tarantino, 2006). Payer mix refers to cash mix or product mix. • 4. Middle Passage Dbq 1st Paragraph In discussions of the Atlantic Slave Trade, the term Middle Passage often arises. The Middle Passage was the stage of the triangular trade in which millions of Africans were shipped to the New World as part of the Atlantic Slave trade. The journey was one of the most horrific aspects of the morally deplorable system of slavery. Death was a constant threat as diseases, starvation, asphyxiation and severe depression rampantly claimed the lives of African and the ship s crew. Throughout this essay you will understand the tragic journey of the slaves and what hardships they had to go through. 2nd paragraph According to Document C, another reliable source, is an excerpt from the Slave Ship Doctor. Alexander Falconbridge, who served as a doctor on the slave ships claims that, Their food is served up to them in tubs, about the size of a small water bucket. They are placed around these tubs in companies of ten... If negroes refused to take sustenance, I have seen coals of fire, glowing hot, put on shovel, and placed so near their lips, as to scorch and burn them. This shows that when Falconbridge was treating the slaves he figured out the reasons as to what caused their injuries. In the Slave Ship Diagram in Document D, it portrays how the compartments in the boat were tightened up. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Summary Of Waiting For Superman The documentary Waiting for Superman was both informative and eye opening, as it provided insight into problems that exist within the public school system and demonstrated how difficult the education reform has been thus far. Specifically, the director David Guggenheim brought light to the literacy crisis within in the United States, investigated its many causes, and discussed changes that needed to be made in order to ensure greater academic success among children in America. While this documentary may cause great controversy among educators due to the exposure of poor test scores and unfit teachers, there were many great points that should be reflected on by teachers, Speech Language Pathologists, Literacy Specialists, and others professionals who play a role in the literacy of our youth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is the role of Speech Language Pathologists to support children who exhibit deficits in language and literacy to increase overall success. As a Speech Language Pathology graduate student watching the documentary, it was especially important to keep this role in mind as statistics over a span of many years have shown that literacy scores are poor/failing in many public schools within the United States of America. This means that many children are falling behind in literacy which is inhibiting overall academic success, which could then translate into difficulty functioning in society if remediation does not occur during the child s educational term. Hence, this documentary corresponds with Loyola s childhood literacy class and it reflects on how deficits related to literacy impacts the child s lifetime success and states the importance of intensive instruction and intervention to improve the literacy crisis within the United ... The story follows these expatriates as they journey from Paris to Pamplona for the Festival of San Fermin. The group indulges in wild nightlife, which includes drinking, dancing, and watching bullfights. This lifestyle takes the characters through the emotions of anger, fear, and regret. The lone female character of the group, Lady Brett Ashley, is an attractive, intelligent, and carefree divorcГ©e that the men in the circle constantly lust for. Her appeal to the men causes a great deal of sexual jealousy. The concept of sex is a devastating force that damages the group. Sex is able to destroy relationships, people internally, and the purpose of life for the characters. There are many relationships in The Sun Also Rises, each one having similar qualities to the others. Most of the relationships revolve around Lady Brett Ashley, who is very outspoken about her love life. She has had sexual relations with many men, and has even had affairs, but does not feel guilty about her lifestyle. The narrator of the story, Jake Barnes, is very attracted to Brett, and Brett has mutual feelings about Jake. However, Jake is impotent, because of a wound he received from serving in World War I. I won t do well on this paper or in this class, but forget it. School just doesn t seem important compared to anything else in my life. • 10. What Is The Influence Of Elizabeth Cady Stanton On Women s... As the daughter of an attorney who often expressed a strong preference for his sons, she made clear, early on, a desire to thrive in all intellectual and other male dominated realms. Following the devastating death of her last surviving brother, she declared that she would work hard to achieve all that her brother had accomplished and beyond. In spite of her efforts, however, her unremorseful father simply responded that he wished she was born a boy. This was the life of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Displeased with the prejudiced attitudes towards women and fueled by her passion for genderequality, she was determined to break free from confinement in order to pave the way for women of future generations. Dissatisfied with her limited roles, she took it upon herself to actively re engage in the temperance, abolitionist and most importantly, women s rights communities. While she still devoted a great amount of time and dedication towards her family, she worked to establish relationships with other like minded women. • 11. Pros And Cons Of Minimum Voting Age Imagine a world where the potential leaders of the nation were casual about Tax reforms, health care amendments and Day Care policies. Imagine that in this world the future leaders were more concerned with increasing Lady Gaga, BeyoncГ© and Drake performances or with casual matters like getting your parents to buy you an iPhone, Canadian Goose jackets, and Lululemon pants. A minimum votingage should be rejected because its view on competency raises irrational controversy among the voting population. People at 16 have difficulty with understanding complex long term consequences over short term and so they should not be allowed to vote. 16 year old are too immature to think about the consequences of their votes. They might be allowed to work, drive and make decisions about their future like if they want to go to university, but they are prone to undue influence from their parents, teachers and friends. People at 16 have not fully formed their ideas about their political ideology. Letting 16 year olds vote would make them susceptible to pressure from their parents to vote a certain way and this would give extra votes to people jeopardizing the country s democracy. People at 16 are thirsting for confirmation and they like to get rewarded for the accomplishments; parents would be inclined to buy gifts for their children if they vote a certain way and politics would become an even dirtier game. • 12. Self-Acquaintance And John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill For our second week of school, we learned about the different Puritan ideals and how they influenced our society today. In this essay, I will discuss one of those many ideals and provide evidence to defend that it is, indeed, a Puritanical ideal that can be found in many early colonial pieces of literature, such as Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house, July 10th, 1666 by Anne Bradstreet, and John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill, 1630. Loyalty to God, or faith, is a Puritanideal. Faith is a Puritan ideal as shown in many early colonial works. In Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, the speaker begins to question his faith before stating, Oh, cleanse me in a Saviour s blood,/Transform me by thy pow r,/And make me thy beloved abode,/And let me rove no more. Rick Perry Rick Perry In Section 1 of Article II of the United States Constitution, it is stated that the president is allowed to serve four years before the election process is once again re initiated. Accordingly, every four years, new presidential candidates pop up in hopes of becoming the next President of the United States. 2012 is such a year, and one of the candidates was Rick Perry. It is interesting to note that when Rick Perry first entered the political scene, becoming elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1984, his party affiliation was as a Democrat. It was only in 1989 that Rick Perry announced he was switching parties and became a Republican. In 1990, after serving six years (three terms) on the Texas Legislature, he ... Many of Rick Perry s decisions assert his support of the 10th amendment, but perhaps the most monumental indicator may be his book, Fed Up! in which he accuses the federal system of being a tyrannical government that takes too much power from the states and stresses repetitively that the states matter more. In his preface, he emphasizes, I believe that states are critical components of our federal system of government, that the Founders recognized their importance, and that empowering the states is the best way to ensure our God given right to live according to the dictates of our consciences. To sum it up, Rick Perry s core belief is that giving state governments the freedom to regulate their economy, business, health care, and education on their own without government intrusion is the only way to go. When it comes to domestic issues, in particular the economy, Rick Perry may have had some ideas worth listening to. There were many reasons why American citizens would have been very pleased with his economic plan and its policies: lower taxes, more jobs, a balanced budget, and a more responsible, capable government. • 14. Illusions Is An Exhibition At Casa Daros Illusions is an exhibition at Casa Daros, a gallery dedicated to Latin American contemporary art. The exhibition explores the idea of illusion and art as illusion (fig. 5), with a focus on artists such as Luis Camnitzer. The Illusions website explores this theme by creating illusions of space, depth and movement in a virtual space. The website itself functions as an illusion; although objects and images fly towards the viewer in a resemblance of the three dimensional, they are still only two dimensional images in two dimensional space. In comparison to The Curious Gardener, Illusions also uses parallax scrolling to enable the objects to fly towards and away from the viewer as they scroll through the website (fig. 6). This gives the user the ability to drive and control the illusions that they are seeing, becoming an active participator in the exhibition. This use of parallax motion and depth is being used to innovatively explore objects, ornaments, artworks and furniture, not only in cultural heritage but in a variety of institutions. A cutting edge example of how parallax scrolling can be used to display objects is Sony s Be Moved (fig. 7). It is a detailed and technical website that pushes the boundaries of animation and parallax motion as cameras, laptops and other forms of technical equipment come apart and are re built as the user scrolls, showing the intricacy and craftsmanship of the objects interiors. • 15. Plant Mitochondri Cytochrome Oxidase And The Cyanide... Plant mitochondria include two terminal oxidases: cytochrome oxidase and the cyanide insensitive alternative oxidase. Electron partitioning between the two pathways is regulated by the redox equilibrium of the ubiquinone pool and the activation state of the alternative oxidase. The alternative oxidase appears to exist as a dimer, which is active in the reduced, noncovalently linked form, and inactive when in the oxidized, covalently linked form. Reduction of the oxidase in detached tobacco mitochondria occurs upon oxidation of isocitrate or malate and may be mediated by matrix NAD(P)H. The energy of the reduced oxidase is influenced by certain other organic acids, notably pyruvate, which appear to interact directly with the enzyme. Pyruvate alters the interaction between the alternative oxidase and ubiquinol so that the oxidase becomes active at much lower levels of ubiquinol and competes with the cytochrome pathway for electrons. These will be further explored in this piece. Cyanide resistant respiration was found toward the beginning of the twentieth century as a singularity in thermogenic plants in the middle of anthesis and was later seen to be a regular highlight of plant respiration. The think of respiration impenetrable to cyanide is related with the closeness in the respiratory chain of an supplemental terminal oxidase alternative oxidase (AOX). The mammary glands, highly modified glands that are part of the integumentary system, provide milk for an infant after its birth. Skin stretches to accommodate a growing fetus in the uterus as well. In spite of that, it is only the first three books of the gospel that actually follows a certain order and appears similar; that is Mathew, Mark and Luke. Interestingly, the fourth book of the gospel gives the accounts of the gospel of Christ on a different manner. It is more of the spiritual effect of Christ s mission on earth as opposed to the normal narration of the events . There is a record of the fourth gospel of called John in the Christian bible and is among the conical gospels in the bible. People also call the book the Fourth Gospel because it is the last recorded gospel book. The book gives an eye witness experience to the miracles of Jesus during his lifetime, in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus (Michaels 2010). Shaping is primarily used to train animals because it reinforces behaviors that are out of the ordinary. By the same token, mathematics is foreign to humans it is not something that humans know how to do naturally. • 24. Maximal Oxygen Consumption And The Oxygen Maximal oxygen consumption or VO2 max refers to the single maximum oxygen consumption that an individual can utilize during graded intensity exercise. VO2 max can be assessed through properly administered submaximal oxygen consumption test which can include exercise test modes of treadmill, cycle ergometer or step test. In an individual, VO2 maxcan be determined by the cardiovascular system s ability to deliver oxygenated bloodto working muscles and then the muscle s ability to extract that oxygen from the blood and generate energy for work. Influencing factors can include genetics, decline of VO2 max with aging, and finally aerobic training can positively influence an individual s VO2 max and overall aerobic fitness. Individuals with high VO2 maxes often have greater overall aerobic fitness, which includes high efficiency, or running economy, better glycogen storage and is often an indicator of success when completing aerobic tasks of over 20 minutes. On the contrary, a low VO2 max can predict poor overall aerobic fitness which can include cardiovascular disease and problems with transporting oxygen to working muscles. My mother rushed me to the hospital where I was admitted and taken to the operating room for an emergency surgery. While in surgery, they discovered I had a surgical infection in my lower right quadrant. They ran my bowel and found a lump in my mesentery, but they could not biopsy it because it was too close to a major artery. After surgery, I was recovering well and looking forward to going home. On my third day post operation, I was difficult to rouse and eventually became unresponsive with my heart rate dropping to eight beats per minute. I was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit where I was given Last Rights by the hospital priest because they did not think I was going to make it through the night. I do not remember receiving the sacrament that night, but I do remember the second time. Things got a little better, but then I started hemorrhaging from my nose. That, combined with my blood loss from surgery, resulted in me needing a blood transfusion. I received Last Rights for a second time after the central line was placed. I remember the priest making a cross on my forehead and the palms of my hand. He prayed and blessed my soul so that if I were to die, I could go to Heaven. I remember feeling a sense of calm, but that could have been the narcotics. The idea of blessing someone before deathto ensure that they get to heaven is interesting to me. It almost seems as though you can live your life as sinfully as you want to but when the time comes, if you confess and repent, then all is forgiven. That is quite odd to me. Encircled by dreams which she does not desire; actions which impinge themselves into her life; feelings which only have an affect when it is too late for anyone to sympathize with you. This is the life of Linda Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman. Although a relatively minor character in light of the screenplay s title man, Willy Loman, Linda advances the plot of the story in a fashion which was wholly necessary. Being the spouse of Mr. Loman lead Linda to exposit much needed information throughout the play, and this leads to a characterization of the woman herself. She is Willy s one and only crutch in times where the man seems to become nothing more than a double amputee. Linda is the character Miller uses to complete his masterpiece, and as such, allows the reader to fully digest the story of a man who had the common dream of all Americans: the American Dream. Through it all, Linda stood up to the menial position she is placed within, and retains the courage of her convictions. The abridged definition of the assault weapon is that it is the semi automatic firearm similar to the military defense. The play opens with a tempest, and in the next scene the audience is introduced to Prospero: who at this point is revealed to be the orchestrator of such storm. • 50. Report On The Car Engines Car Engines Jonah Hornum Wilde Lake High School Jonah Hornum Torque Torque of a car is very important to its performance. Torque is the measure of how much force is acting on an object and how that causes the object to rotate. (What is torque). Rotating the wheels of a car is torque and that helps the car get up to speed faster. Many performance cars have very fast 0 60 mph speeds, like the corvette, challenger and exotic cars like the Porsche, Bentley, Ashton Martin etc. Everyone wants to know exactly what torque does; it is basically the amount of turning power you have, basically like using a wrench. When looking at car specifications, the torque that is shown is the maximum torque of the internal combustion engine. The torque can tell a lot about how fast can actually accelerate. For example, if 500 newton meters is the toque that the tires experience, the mass of a typical car is 1500 kg, and the distance between the center of mass of the car and the wheels rotational axis is about 20 cm, the moment of inertia I about 60 kg. Therefore the acceleration of the car is 4.25 m/s^2, meaning it can go 0 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. (What does torque in a car do). Car racing is a big part of torque; rotational motion in automobile racing is when the wheel turns through revolutions throughout the race. The motor rotates in what is called as RPM.
