Occupy London Stock Exchange and the European Convention...
On the 15th and 16th day of October 2011, some protestors, led by Tammy Samende and having
George Barda and Daniel Ashman, among others, pitched a protest camp in St Paul s Churchyard. The
protesters set up between 150 and 200 tents in the churchyard, with some tents serving as
accommodation for the protestors. Other tents were allocated different activities including setting up
temporary first aid centres, a learning centre, named Tent City University, and a children s place. The
tents occupied nearly the entire compound of the church, with the protestors extending their activities
to the city s highway.
The land occupied by these protestors was subdivided into three areas, area 1, area2 and area 3. Of
these three areas, area 3 was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stipulated in section 2 of article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights, authorities can
intervene for the sake of protecting other human rights. The same is categorically stated in article 10,
which allows for intervention by legal officers for the sake of protecting human rights.
These articles shows develop a paradox in that the demonstrators were acting within the constitution,
while still breaching other parts of the constitution. By holding demonstrations in the cathedral and
across the city s highway, they were exercising their constitutional right. However, by doing the same,
they were breaching the constitution because they did not have licences to occupy the land, and they
also breached the right of other citizens to exercise their freedom of worship.
The demonstrators also breached the right of city dwellers to use public utilities like the highway and
the cathedral, which was visited by many people from the country and beyond. The demonstration and
pitching of tents in public places therefore breached article 9, and 10 as they made it hard for other
individuals to occupy public places and a place of worship.
The other statute that was breached is the Local Government Act of 1972. Under this Act, the City of
London Corporation reserves the right to local authority. This means that the protestors were meant to
notify them before occupying regions within the city. The City of

Google s Uses For Creating And Linking Your Content
When it comes to backlinks, they can propel your website to the top of the Google pile, or they can
sink your website to the depths of the unknown. After creating your website and spending time as well
as effort to build your site, you don t want to be sunk by bad backlinking practices. You want to stay
on the good side of Google. To do that, you ll need to practice white hat strategies for creating and
linking your content.
Link Building of the Past
The days of creating thousands of terrible, non related links from spammy sites is over. As little as a
few years ago, Google would count the number of links to see who had the most authoritative site.
Now, Google s algorithm is more complex, and it s smarter. It will check to see if the content is being
shared by others. It will check the quality of the content being created too.
The old spammy link building process can actually incur penalties with Google that can actually hurt
your search engine optimization.
Creating Shareable, Linkable Content
Where old strategies would allow you to create any kind of content, which would often be riddled
with typos and bad information, Google now wants you to create meaningful, detailed and accurate
content that s focused on the reader.
You need to do more than create posts and pages of information for your website. The content should
be planned in advance. It s helpful to create a content strategy on a spreadsheet to really keep track of
the content you d like to add.

Advantages Of Political Dynasty In The Philippines
An Argumentative Essay About a Phillipine or Local Issue
Topic: Political Dynasty
Despite not being an economically rich state, Philippines is known for having people who deeply
value their family members. Family oriented Filipinos give importance to even to their most distant
relatives as long as they have the same blood running through their veins. In this practice also,
Filipinos tend to seek advices from the elders of the family before making a huge decision. Thus,
decisions are made not by one for himself but by a group for the entirety of the family. (Agoncillo,
2012, p.6)
There is the saying that goes blood is thicker than water. This old saying can be implied to anything,
moreover when it is already concerning politics and elections. ... Show more content on

This statement did not just come from us but from the research and survey we have conducted.
Political dynasty has already been long present in the political structure of the Philippines. It can be
manifested when a family member runs, and most often than not, wins the election and his position is
soon succeeded by one of his family members as well. This cycle goes on and on and the scope of the
family s territory becomes wider and wider every election for the members can run on different places.
This is often practiced by rich and influential families; families who have been political since their
forefathers and have followed the tradition as well.
Political dynasties started to emerge just after the Philippine Revolution happened. It was also when
the First Republic of the Philippines was established. The Philippine Revolution was the fight between
the people of the Philippines and the Spanish colonizers. According to the book The Making of a
Filipino which is written by Renato Constantino, political dynasty was believed to be first recorded
way back in the pre Magellanic period where the rulers where the datu, raja, and maharlika. They
passed on their title to their male

Puerto Rican Beauty Standards Essay
As of recently, the media has been flooded with positive interpretations of beauty standards all over
the world. According to various sources, beauty ideals, in women especially, are socially constructed
in order to judge a person s value based on physical attractiveness; therefore, it is highly encouraged
that people pay attention to their looks and take care of themselves, in order for others to create a
positive first impression of one s character. It is no secret that beauty standards vary from one culture
to the next and it is difficult to establish a universal principle of what is considered beautiful. Many
countries ideals contrast one another and, as a result, allow for stereotypes to emerge. This is the case

It is not uncommon that you ll hear Puerto Ricans refer to themselves as the mutts of the Spanish
community, this is because of the island s history. Soon after Christopher Columbus discovered the
island in 1493, it became known as the rich port for the Spanish or Puerto Rico, due to the fact that it
produced mass amounts of cattle, sugar cane, tobacco, and coffee, especially considering the island s
size. Such prosperity and wealth opened the door for the slave trade to enter the colony, and as a result
Puerto Rican bloodlines and cultures evolved not only from the Spanish, but also from Africans, and
indigenous Taíno and Carib people ( Puerto Rico History and Heritage ). In addition, over the
centuries many failed attempts where made by the French, Dutch, and English to conquer the island
which even further changed the bloodlines. Of course, as history has it, at the end of the Spanish
American war in 1898, the Treaty of Paris declared the the Spanish would surrender Puerto Rico to the
United States, therefore infiltrating American culture and beauty ideals.
One of the most charming statements ever made about Puerto Rican diversity goes as follows:
Their skins were like a rainbow of toasted wood...Some skins were very fair, as fair as his, but they
betrayed another something against the bone. Their

Summary Of Disco Rice And Other Trash Talk
In the article Disco Rice, and Other Trash Talk written by Ian Urbina, the sanitation workers
developed their own slang. Many people who work as garbage men cannot understand one persons
language, or way of speaking. Using slang as a language is easier for all of the workers to
communicate as a group. In addition to making it easier to communicate there are also several other
reasons why New York workers use slang terms. First of all, the garbage men are working in the hot
summer. In paragraph four it says It makes disgusting items not so disgusting. Using other words like
mongo and Disco rice is looking at the trash in a different way. They would no longer have to picture
loads of debris. using different words can also be a distraction

Overview of Intellectual Property
The term intellectual property refers to the innovations of the human mind. Intellectual property rights
protect the interests of these innovators by giving them property rights attached to those ideas. The
term intellectual property rights stands for these legal rights that authors, inventors, and other creators

Views on intellectual property vary from the belief that that intellectual property should be protected,
to the view that ideas should be completely unrestricted and free to use. Thomas Jefferson believed
that ideas had the right to be shared, saying:
If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the action
of the thinking power called an idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps
it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the possession of everyone, and the
receiver cannot dispossess himself of it. Its peculiar character, too, is that no one possesses the less,
because every other possesses the whole of it. He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction
himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening
me. That ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual
instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently
designed by nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their
density in any point, and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being,
incapable of confinement or exclusive appropriation. Inventions then

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Owning Exotic Animals
Jenny wants a puppy, but her parents are reluctant to take the plunge. They remind her of the
responsibilities that go along with pet ownership, responsibilities that she will have to follow no
matter what; it ll grow up from the cute puppy it is now to a gnarly old dog. Jenny says she doesn t
mind and soon Fido is welcomed into the family fold. In no time at all the parents love Fido just as
much as Jenny does, and Fido loves them all back. But what if Jenny tried to persuade her parents to
buy her a fuzzy lion cub she saw advertised, or a baby chimpanzee? If they had any sense, Jenny s
parents would tell her No way and stick to their guns. While the idea of owning an exotic animal as a
pet can at first seem exciting and daring, it is important to stop and consider the many disadvantages
that can come about while owning an exotic animal as a pet. The two articles provided convey why
private citizens should not be allowed to keep dangerous (exotic) animals as pets, owning an exotic
animal as a pet can put the owner and those around them in danger, there are many responsibilities
that come with owning an exotic animal as a pet that allot of people don t think about before buying
one, and privately owning an exotic animal puts the animal s health and wellbeing at risk. If someone
were to plan on buying an exotic animal as a pet they should consider the following.

Essay on hannibal
From the middle of the 3rd century to the middle of the 2nd century BC, Carthage was engaged in a
series of wars with Rome (Dorey, P 57). These wars, known as the Punic Wars, ended in the complete
defeat of Carthage by Rome. The most prominent figure of the Punic wars was General Hannibal of
Pheonician Carthage. During these wars, it s likely that the colonizing expeditions of the
Carthaginians were supported by many emigrants from the Phoenician homeland. Hannibal was the
son of the great Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca. According to Polybius and Livy, the main Latin

Finally on the 15th day, after a journey of five months from Cartagena, with 20,000 infantry, 6,000
cavalry, and only a few of the original 38 elephants, Hannibal descended into Italy, having surmounted
the difficulties of climate and terrain, the guerrilla tactics of inaccessible tribes, and the major
difficulty of commanding a body of men diverse in race and language under conditions to which they
were ill fitted (wsu.edu). Hannibal s forces were now totally inadequate to match the army of Scipio,
who had rushed to the Po River to protect the recently founded Roman colonies of Placentia (modern
Piacenza) and Cremona. The first action between the two armies took place on the plains west of the
Ticino River, and Hannibal s Numidian cavalry prevailed. Scipio was severely wounded, and the
Romans withdrew to Placentia. After manoeuvres failed to lead to a second engagement, the combined
armies of Sempronius Longus and Scipio met Hannibal on the left bank of the Trebia River south of
Placentia and were soundly defeated (December 218). This victory brought both Gauls and Ligurians
to Hannibal s side, and his army was considerably augmented by Celtic recruits. After a severe winter
(in which he contracted an eye infection), he was able to advance in the spring of 217 as far as the
Arno River (wsu.edu). Although two Roman armies were now in the field against him, he was able to

Intake Form Critique
Intake Form Critique
GW Associates Counseling and Hypotherapy (2016) is an organization that offers individual, family,
and couples counseling therapy. The agency also provides hypnotherapy as a therapeutic modality.
The organization uses A holistic approach to individual and family therapy (Weisser, 2016) and is
operated by a licensed social worker in Denton, Maryland. The agency uses a seven page
multidimensional intake form that must be completed by the client or client s guardian.
Does it ask all of the necessary questions to determine the client s presenting problem?
The intake form asks the client to explain their presenting problem. The presenting problem is
important because it suggests areas to be explored in assessment (Hepworth, ... Show more content on

For example, the pages with the long list of past psychiatric medications could be removed. That
section is redundant as the form already asks the client to list their medications. If that section was
removed, it would not impact the information or leave any void concern. Also, the open ended
question at the end that asks if the client wanted to share anything else could be shortened.
Overall, the intake form has some very key components. However, there are a few questions that
could be added to obtain clarity and a more comprehensive overview of the client s presenting
problem and background. The presenting problem and the exploration that follows usually identify
key individuals, groups, or organizations that are participants in the client s difficulties (Hepworth,
Rooney, Rooney, Strom Gottfried, 2013, p. 201). Specific information about the frequency, location,
reaction, and duration of the presenting problem should be added to the intake

Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy
Does the high cost of the JLTV preclude it from replacing the HMMWV, as outlined in the 2010 U.S.
Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy?
In September 2011, the Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee voted to cancel the Army and
Marine Corps Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) in their version of the fiscal year 2012 defense bill
(Munoz, 2011). This measure could have completely shut down efforts to replace a thirty year old fleet
of Humvees, loyal but potentially outmoded tactical wheeled vehicles. The Army s Modernized
Expanded Capacity Vehicle program has been a project set to replace the High Mobility, Multi
Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) family in the works for years. The project, however, continues to be
stymied by budgetary constraints. Per vehicle costs for the JLTV begin at $250,000 and are likely to
climb, as Lockheed Martin secured a preliminary contract for engineering, design, and development.
The high cost of the JLTV does preclude it from completely replacing the HMMWV, and yet cost does
not preclude the JLTV from supplementing the Army s fleet. A middle ground solution is the best
method of maximizing initial investments, while also banking on the robustness of national security.
The primary argument against adopting the JLTV as a full replacement for the HMMWV is that the
HMMWV remains viable, and that resources have already been diverted towards adapting and
upgrading the fleet. A considerable amount of money has already been spent on upgrading the existing

Distracted Driving Research Paper
With new technology being introduced on almost a daily basis, it needs to be decided what ways are
safe to use that technology. Advanced technology has created an abundance of things that can be used
while driving. The most popular technology used while driving is the cell phone. Although it was
invented in the 1970s, the cell phone did not gain momentum until the 2000s. Even during its first
days, the effect of a cell phone distraction was already in the spotlight (Brown, Tickner Simmonds,

was not harming society. Driving is a complex cognitive task. Since its use boomed in the 21st

two age groups, novice and young adults (p. 65). All participants reported regular use of cell phones

or having a cell phone conversation while driving (p. 65). During the simulated driving condition,
there was an abundance of driving errors including; fluctuations in speed, lane deviance and lane

driving performance in a negative way, between both of these conditions texting while driving was
found to be the most detrimental (p. 67). Furthermore, these researchers concluded that age and
experience made no difference when it came to accuracy of driving (p. 68). People often believe that
due to their experience with texting and driving, it will have no negative effects on their driving.
However, this study demonstrates otherwise. Experience with texting and driving provides no asset

Similarities Between Macbeth And Banquo
A homograph is a word that is spelled the same but can be pronounced differently or have different
meanings. Different pronunciations of the word are used based on the context of the sentence it is in.
This same idea is also true of people. Two people can have the exact same experiences, yet react to it
in completely different ways. Characters in literature often reflect this same phenomenon, foil
characters with identical aspects who react differently to circumstance. In Shakespeare s tragic play
Macbeth, Banquo serves as a foil character to Macbeth emphasizing Macbeth s unchecked ambition, a
fatal flaw, that leads to his ultimate moral decline. At the beginning of the story, Shakespeare
establishes the foil between Macbeth and Banquo to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By encouraging Macbeth not to fear his prophecy, Shakespeare establishes that his foil Banquo also
has a sense of ambition. Unlike Macbeth, however, Banquo has the ability to control his ambition.
These opening scenes establish a foil between Banquo and Macbeth in order to show their shared
positive characteristics prior to Macbeth s moral decline. After Macbeth and Banquo receive
prophecies, the foil characters start to diverge as Banquo s takes the moral path of goodness while
Macbeth takes the immoral path towards his ultimate decline. Banquo and Macbeth have the
opportunity to pursue the same path, but because of his unchecked ambition, Macbeth deviates from
Banquo s path of good morals. Immediately after the witches tell their prophecies, Banquo s mindset
is wary and rational. He warns Macbeth that, oftentimes, to win us to our harm, / the instruments of
darkness tell us truths... (1.3.125 126). Banquo is not obsessed with the prophecies and the idea that
one day his ancestors will be kings. On the other hand, Macbeth speculates, Two truths are told, / as
happy prologues to the swelling act / of the imperial theme. (1.3.130 132) Because two of the three
prophecies have come true, Macbeth is blinded by his ambition and seems to fantasize about the idea
of being king. These contrasting reactions show that Macbeth takes a

From the economic review for January 2012 has a graph that shows the output of the three major
economic sectors: manufacturing, construction and services. The graph shows the recession in 2008 to
2011 and how it recovers.
The graph shows that the manufacturing was a lot higher more higher in Q1 in 2008 compared to the
start of 2009. This shows that businesses were not manufacturing a lot of products and the way in
which the manufacturing decreased within a year. This also reflects the manufacturing that Nissan UK
did from 2008 to 2009 by making it go low because there wasn t a huge demand for products. This
also shows that the recession had just begun and was getting a lot worse in 2009. This must have had
an impact on Nissan by making their employees lose their jobs because there was less labour activity.
In Q3 of 2009, the graph shows that there was progress being made in the economy by showing

The Myth Of The White Hare Of Inaba Is The Oldest...
Compiled nearly 1300 years ago, the Kojiki is the oldest surviving collection of Japanese myths,
which serve as the backbone for Shinto practices. Thirteen centuries later, those very same myths live

The White Hare of Inaba is reincarnated through a few modern day games. It tells the story of a
cunning rabbit who crosses the sea by tricking wani (translated as crocodiles by B. H. Chamberlain,
but it can also be rendered as sharks) into lying in a row. The hare reveals the nature of his trickery,
and the last crocodile enacts revenge by ripping off all of the hare s fur. Eighty gods, all brothers,
stumble upon the hare, but they respond to the rabbit s plea for help by giving dishonest advice that
only causes the white hare more pain. The eighty first brother, named Ōkuninushi, then finds the hare
and gives proper aid to restore the rabbit s hide. In return, the white hare of Inaba prophesizes that
Ōkuninushi will marry Princess Yakami of Inaba, whom the eighty one brothers sought to court. As
can be seen through examples from Cardfight!! Vanguard and the Touhou series, the myth can be
taken, reshaped, and used in a variety of ways without completely losing the original context.
Before beginning, it is worth nothing that there are two versions of The White Hare of Inaba myth

Differences Of Abrahamic Religions
Throughout the duration of human history, one question has been omnipresent in the minds of
philosophers and common folk alike: Does god exist? While dozens of religions have been established
with unique and varying elaborations on this question, the three principal Abrahamic religions stand
out for their massive accumulations of devoted followers. And though the fundamentals of the
Abrahamic religions are inherently different, they all share similar ideology on the afterlife.
Furthermore, these three religions homogeneously stress the importance of prayer as a means to
achieve fulfillment. And although there are many parallel ideas and practices, these religions also host
an abundance of differences. Namely, the difference in the interpretation of the Old and New
Testaments. Moreover, Abrahamic religions even draw differences in their dietary restrictions. One of
the more interesting points of concurrence in the three major Abrahamic religions is the belief in an
afterlife. Though conditions of the afterlife in Abrahamic religions vary, Islam, Christianity, and
Judaism all emphasize the importance of staying in god s grace in order to ascend to a variation of
heaven after the physical body dies here on Earth. In these regions worshippers are promised post
mortal nirvana after death in exchange for their servitude in life. Conversely, in Christianity and Islam,
if a follower veers from the righteous path they are likely to wind up in hell. Hell being of course, the

Rolex Essay
Rolex, the esteemed timepiece manufacturer, known globally as a statement of success, quality, and
prestige, is regarded in the watch market as part of the highest tier of timepieces. The Swiss watch
company was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother in law William Davis in London,
with the vision of making quality timepieces more popular. They chose Rolex as the name because
they believed that the sound a watch made while being wound sounded like the word while also being
short enough to fit on any size watch. In 1914, Kew Observatory awarded a Rolex watch a Class A

Rolex was the only company not to take losses, as it used this time period to further its reputation for
quality and performance. In 1926, Wilsdorf developed and patented the first truly water resistant
watch, the Oyster. The watch was strapped to the wrist of Mercedes Gleitze as she made her
pioneering 15 hour swim across the English Channel. Rolex capitalized on the event by using it in
advertisements, and by building displays in jewelers windows that featured a watch submerged in a
small tank of water. Eventually, Rolex brand had gained such prestige that British Royal Air Force
pilots brought them to replace the inferior watches that were normally issued. Pilots captured during
the war frequently had their wares confiscated, but when pilots wrote to the company describing their
experiences, Rolex would replace the watches at no cost. This led American servicemen learned of
Rolex while stationed in Europe, thus helping to open the lucrative U.S. market to the company. By

Conservation banking was modeled after the U.S. wetland...
Conservation banking was modeled after the U.S. wetland mitigation banking system and the two
programs share many similarities. However, unlike the wetland mitigation system, conservation
offsets do not have a stated no net loss goal, but instead have a species recovery goal. Both
conservation and wetlands mitigation banks are privately or publicly owned lands which are protected
and managed for its ecological value. By doing this, the bank sponsor generates habitat or wetland or
stream credits to sell to developers or transportation departments who need to offset their impacts and
comply with the legal requirements for the permitting of development or roadway projects. Both types
of banks offer benefits to both the landowner that owns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plus studies have shown that on site mitigation often failed to produce compensatory wetland resource
values (Ruhl et al., 2005). Wetland mitigation seeks to replace functions that are damaged or lost at the
impact site by creating, restoring, or enhancing wetlands nearby, generally in the same watershed or
eco region. When wetland mitigation banks are not available, the alternative is on site or off site
mitigation performed by the permit applicant. These project specific mitigation sites led to small,
isolated wetlands being restored that provided minimal ecological uplift to the watershed. Wetland
mitigation banking can be used to combine the smaller wetland restorations sites into larger restored
habitats that can better replace the lost functions from the impacts. Regulatory agencies express a
preference for wetland credits generated from restoration, creation, or enhancement instead of
preservation. This is in line with the no net loss policy, which seeks to maintain the wetland acreage or
even increase the acreage in the United States.
Conservation banking took the idea of wetland banking and transformed it into threatened and
endangered species conservation with a few alterations. The primary objective of wetland mitigation is
to meet the no net loss goal by replacing the acreage and function of the wetland areas that will be
impacted by a proposed project. The goal of

The Origin Of Smart City Movement
As the world experiences rapid advancement, the continuing population growth and urbanization are
inevitable. More population are now live in urban areas than the rural areas.
54 % of the world s population are residing in urban areas in 2014. It forecast increase to 66 percent or
an addition of 2.5 billion people in 2050 (United Nation, 2014). With this continuing of urbanization,
the cities indicate a suffer on its fundamental functionalities to services citizens as a liveable place
(Borja, 2007; Toppeta, 2010). This rapid transition raises the need in integrated policies to improve
lives (United Nation, 2014). This gives birth of the new urban development concept leveraging new
innovation introduced in the cities (Nam and Pardo, 2011).
The origin of Smart City movement is dated back since late 1990 s (Bollier, 1998). The term has been
adopted and advocated by many technologies services companies such as IBM (2009) and Cisco
(2005). It was a promotion of the integration of information systems into urban infrastructure and
services (Harrison and Donnelly, 2011).
This is a result of globalization and diffusion of technologies; cities growth process has been
influenced greatly by these two factors. Information communication technology (ICT) is now playing
an important role in governance and management of the cities in various sectors e.g. government
services, transport and traffic management, energy, health care, water, innovative urban agriculture
and waste management

Tone generator=A tone generator, also known as a signal generator, can be described in at least two
contexts: electronic audio acoustics and equipment testing and setup, or informational signals,
commonly associated with a telephone system. In each case, electrically generated audio pulses are
sent to specific components. In the case of audio equipment testing, frequency response and sound
evaluation are noted, and the acoustic properties of a studio or hall may be determined. With a

The Rehabilitation Of Stroke Patients
Brain Plasticity: How is This Evidenced from the Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients?
The essay will look at brain plasticity in the context of brain injury, specifically that which occurs
during a stroke and discuss how it is possible for regions of the brain to reconstruct to serve new
functions, which were previously allocated to other regions in the brain. The effectiveness of the
rehabilitation methods which use the idea of brain plasticity to help stroke patients regain previously
lost functions, will also be considered.
Brain plasticity is the ability of the brain to change and develop throughout life or with training. This
occurs when the neurons make new connections and the brain reorganises. There are 3 main situations
in which the brain changes: the beginning of life to organise itself, when you have brain injury, to
compensate for damage caused, and then throughout adulthood as we learn new skills.
Genetics only cause the brain to develop to a certain point, the rest of the brains development depends
on life experiences. The brain is known as being plastic , it can mould to what is happening in our
environment, be that drugs, hormones, relationships or diet. The developing brain is more sensitive to
change than the older brain, and the same experience can have different effects on the brain at
different ages.
The brain is capable of reallocating brain functions to different areas and forming new connections
between neurons. The two different types of plasticity

Ideal Of The American Ideal
The American Ideal
If approval replaced dedication as creativity s fuel, this world
Would be barren, empty, decidedly less lovely. Jen Hatmaker In his will, newspaper publisher Joseph
Pulitzer specified that a $1,000 prize be awarded each year for the American novel; published during
the year which shall best present the whole atmosphere of American life, and the highest standards of
American manners and manhood (6). However, in 1917, the president of Columbia University and
Pulitzer advisory board leader Nichols Murray Butler changed the wording of the criteria to read the
wholesome atmosphere of American life (7); and by so doing, limited the scope of what literature was
deemed acceptable for consideration of the honor. Subsequently, in 1921, the Pulitzer Prize for fiction
was awarded to a novel about New York high society during the 1870s and controversy soon followed.
In a June 22, 1921 article in The New Republic, one of the judges that year, literary scholar Robert
Morse Lovett, wrote that the winner, Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, had not been the jury s
choice (6). The panel of judges, which included Lovett as well as a literature professor and a novelist,
had instead selected Sinclair Lewis s Main Street, a novel Lovett described using the words of his
fellow juror Stuart Pratt Sherman, as having communicated more life to the reading public than any
other novel I can recall... (6). The judges decision to award the p0rize to Lewis was overturned by the

Analyzing Jarmusch s Dead Man

The transitions to different scenes is accomplished through fading out to black and then black in

incessantly inconspicuous and indescribable. Notably, the comparison of a character to the famous
poet seems like bizarre choice but later it proves the suitability by conglomerating the movie.

Protective Environment And A Nurturing Environment

1. Explain the difference between a protective environment and a nurturing environment.
A protective environment is an environment where a child is protected from violence and abuse, they

their parents, teachers, and other adults in their community to protect them from potential threats. A
nurturing environment, however, includes a protective environment but goes further to make sure the
physical and emotional needs are taken care of. The child trusts that their family will take care of

Running Backs In College Football
Wisconsin s first game of the season will feature two of the premier running backs in all of college
football. Leonard Fournette from LSU is a 2016 Heisman favorite and is coming off a superb
sophomore season. On the others side, Corey Clement from Wisconsin is looking to rebound from an

While this first primetime game of 2016 will feature two great running backs, there are other rushers
who are worth watching and hard to tackle. Even though college football has moved to a spread
approach and teams are throwing more than ever, some running backs can still significantly affect the

the actions of the groups and individuals who influence the actions that the state are considered as

Human Trafficking And Its Effects On Human Rights
Human trafficking is an assault on human rights and a violation of one s dignity by means of forced
labor, sex trafficking, bonded labor, and/or domestic servitude. It remains to be both a local and global
issue, occurring in nearly every country, and its networks are vast and formidable to investigate
(Jesionka 2012). Despite government, activist groups and other organization s methods of
intervention, human trafficking is still a major concern with more individuals enslaved now than ever
before. Traffickers are able to coerce, deceive, threaten, and obtain complete control over their
victims. Many of whom are poor, illegal immigrants in search of a job to help support and provide for
their families. In their poverty and desperation, they willingly fall victim to the trade and end up
abused, overworked, underpaid, and most often unable to return home.
Throughout this class we have examined multiple different countries in which human trafficking still
remains an unsolved issue. Such as, Afghanistan s opium brides, Bangladesh s factory workers,
Thailand s child prostitutes, agricultural slaves in the United States, and baby trafficking in China.
How do so many individuals end up trafficked? Why does this still remain such a large problem in the

I Have A Dream Speech Analysis
54 years ago, Martin Luther King Jr delivered his famous I have a dream speech , which along with
Lincoln s Gettysburg address are examples of the best oratory works. The two speeches were critical
to the growth and development of America. They come from two men from different backgrounds and
different times but with one common goal, equality for all.
Standing on the same spot as Lincoln did five score years ago, King preached similar themes of
justice, equality and freedom. Lincolns speech was a eulogy to those who died in the battle of
Gettysburg, at the time America was at civil war. Lincoln spoke to a crowd of thousands to inspire
them to keep fighting the war. In comparison to King, who stood before a crowd of over 200,000
people at the Lincoln memorial and shared his dream of a new future for black Americans. The
context of each address has a profound impact upon their purpose and qualities. One distinct quality of
Lincolns speech is that it is structured in chronological order, with each of the three separate
paragraphs encompassing the past, present and future. This is a device used by Lincoln to build up his
audience s attention to the speeches climatic end. This can be compared to Kings structural approach,

culture media as the selective pressure. Only cell with strong expression potential can overcome this
condition. The cells survived this selection then proceeded to the second selection, where methionine
sulphoxamine (MSX) was added into the media. MSX is a specific inhibitor of GS that stop normal
GS function. Therefore, only cells whose plasmid contains both the gene of interest and a copy the
glutamine synthetase (GS) gene can survive this condition. Due to the presence of GS gene in their
plasmid, the glutamine synthesis was not halted in these survived high expresser cells. These cells
were hence selected for cell line production.
b) The specific productivity (qp) in mammalian cell bioreactor mean the amount of cells made per unit
time per volume. To increase bioreactor productivity, the value of qp need to be maximised. To
achieve a high specific productivity, a cell line with higher efficiency is needed. A well designed and
well developed cell line requires: 1). A strong promoter strength so that genes can express effectively;
2) amplification of the system to give a reasonable system scale to exploit the production potential of
the cell factory.

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome is a condition that is rarely recognized by medical
professionals. At the moment, no cure has been found for this condition only medication to control the
symptoms. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome is an autonomic dysfunction that presents with
symptoms of orthostatic intolerance, such as fatigue, dizziness, headaches, nausea, palpitations,
presyncope and syncope, which are generally relieved by lying down (Busmer 16).Postural
Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome has remarkable effect on a person s life, the symptoms or
limitations of daily activity can vary from something mild to something severe. This condition can

They also must withdraw blood to check for any condition. Inappropriate sinus tachycardia is a
condition that is presented with similar symptoms of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome
(Busmer 19). It may be difficult for medical professionals to differentiate these two conditions. Some
techniques have been prone to minimize the risk of falls which consist of avoiding standing for long
periods of times and if possible to keep moving. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome is a life
changing condition, often affecting healthy, young, fit and active people. It affects every aspect of
their lives and consequently their physiological wellbeing (Busmer 20). Some things that could
happen because of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome are deconditioning because of poor
tolerance of exercise. People who are diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome need
to go through a support of any kind such as practically and emotional. Some things are made to raise
awareness through healthcare professionals. Research is also needed to understand Postural

External Estimates of the Number of Abortions Pooled and by Individual Year
The counts of the total number of abortions for the study period years come from published
information from the Guttmacher Institute s census of abortion providers (Finer and Henshaw 2003;
Jones and Kavanaugh 2011). Following prior research, I used the CDC s age distribution for each year
to calculate the expected number of abortions that occurred in the age distribution of Add Health for
each year, except in the years when an age distribution was collected by the Guttmacher Institute s
survey of abortion patients (Kost and Jones 2007; Fu et al. 1998). Because the CDC data is provided
in ages ranges (under 15; 15 19; 20 24; 25 29; 30 34; 35 39; 40+), the Add Health data was restricted
to best match these ranges (see Appendix 2 for further details).
The overall quality analyses (years 1994 through 2007) could potentially include pregnancies between
the ages of 10 (the youngest individuals in Wave 1 in 1994) and 32 (the oldest individuals in Wave 4
in 2008). Though it should be noted that pregnancies under the age of 13 would be somewhat
improbable considering the median age of menarche in the U.S. is 12.43 ... Show more content on

For example, in 2005 women in the Add Health sample would be between 21 and 30. Women 30 and
over were excluded from the analyses and the comparison group was aged matched based upon the
CDC estimates for women aged 20 24 and 25 29. Spline and linear interpolated age estimates from the
Guttmacher Institute s survey of abortion patients were compared with the estimates used to test the
robustness of these analyses, and no significant differences were found when comparing the 95%
confidence intervals (see Appendix 3A and Appendix 3B). Overall, these external estimates were
treated as known population counts, despite the fact that some unquantified error does

Essay about Comparison of Flood Stories
Comparison of Flood Stories There have been numerous flood stories identified from ancient sources
throughout the world. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but also share
differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood accounts.
Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man.
The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who asked
God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible,
God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was upon
it because of man s wickedness. In Gilgamesh the flood comes to Utnapishtim in a ... Show more

The Bible states that Noah took only his family members and two of each animal. In the Epic of
Gilgamesh it is said that Utnapishtim took not only family members but others as well including
craftsmen and a pilot for the boat. Utnapishtim also took some of every species of animal with him
because he was told to do so in his dream.
The source of the waters and the duration of the excursions were not the same. The Bible states that it
rained for forty days and forty nights with the water coming from heavy rain and ground water. It also
says that after Noah landed on a mountain it took a long time for the Earth to dry up. During this time
Noah sent out a raven and three doves until the last of the three doves did not return and then he knew
the land was dry. In Gilgamesh the rain only lasted for six days and six nights and after stopping on
the mountain the land did not take as long to dry up. Utnapishtim also sent out birds to see if the water
was still standing but he sent out a dove, a swallow, and a raven. When the raven did not return
Utnapishtim knew the Earth was clean. Both Noah and Utnapishtim made sacrifices at the end of the
flood and both were blessed but in different ways. Noah was told his family was blessed and to go out
and multiply while Utnapishtim was made a god and given eternal life.
It is believed that the flood story in the Bible occurred first although it was recorded at a later time by

Epinephrine Experiment
In the lab, we investigated what effects an injection of epinephrine would have on a cockroach s
running speed and righting response. The righting response occurs when the cockroach is placed on it
s back; the cockroach will right itself to return to it s feet. Epinephrine is a hormone that is involved in
the fight or flight response. Epinephrine is also a catecholamine. When the body feels threatened,
epinephrine is released, allowing the body to have energy to respond to this threat. One effect that the
release of epinephrine has on the body is an increased heart rate. The increase in heart rate allows the
tissues to have an adequate supply of blood. The data we collected in the investigation is showcased in
the chart below. Righting Response Running ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Malaria Mosquitoes Can Transmit Malaria
Malaria is spread to people by the female Anopheles mosquito. Only Anopheles mosquitoes can
transmit malaria. These mosquitos must have been infected through previous blood taken from an
infected person. When a mosquito bites an infected person, a small amount of blood is taken and
contains microscopic malaria parasites. (CDC, 2015) When the mosquito takes its next blood meal
from another person a week later, the parasites will be injected. The malaria parasite is found in red
blood cells of an infected person. It can be transmitted through an organ transplant, blood transfusion,
or shared use of needles or syringes contaminated with blood. Malaria can also be transmitted from a
mother to her unborn infant before or during delivery. This is known as congenital malaria. Malaria is
not contagious in any way. It cannot be spread from person to person like a cold, and cannot be
sexually transmitted. (CDC, 2015)
While the mosquito is feeding, the parasite is injected with the saliva of the mosquito. The parasite
first undergoes a round of merogony in the liver followed by multiple rounds of merogony in the
erythrocytes (CDC, 2015). Which means that an asexual process has begun that will increase the
number of infected cells by multiple cell divisions. The life cycle will contain other parasites that are
characterized by sexual replication and also the formation of the invasive stages. (Wiser, 2011) The
cycle begins with the liver Stage. The human infection begins when the

Customer Service At The United States
Sidney Simmons
Mrs. Wiest
English 132
January 1, 2015
Customer service There s customer service In the United States that s good and there s customer
services that s bad. If the customer service is bad it doesn t necessarily mean it s the employees fault;
it s more than likely the customers fault. If they have someone screaming at them for hours on end it
wears them out and makes them snap. Customers only have to deal with someone being mean for the
time they are at the drive thru, where as the worker has to sit through hours of screaming and
complaining from other customers. One example of bad customers service would be this lady going
off on a employee and started cussing him out and it turned out it was a mistake and the lady turned ...

The book refers to what they call the three D s as the three secrets to raving fans; Decide what you
want, Discover what the customer wants, Deliver the idea plus one percent. When establishing Raving
Fans you will understand the needs of the customers, do what it takes to get more customers, and go a
little above and beyond to keep those important customers. In order for a business to succeed and gain
profit in there, they must obtain and keep customers. Without customers, a company is obviously not
going to succeed which results in being a failure. The first step is to convert first time visitors into a
returning customer. Secondly, a company has to find a way to keep these customers as loyal
customers. These steps are considered customer service. There are many new aspects of customer
service now that so many businesses have gone to the internet. To convert first time visitors into
returning customers is a very vital step to business. Visitors may return for a number of reasons but it
is up to there marketing skills to improve these chances and turn them into customers and over all
loyal customers. Outstanding customer service is key to customers. So to convert visitors into
customers a great place to begin would be to display ultimate customer service to someone who is not
yet a customer. A company has to always remember that the customer is actually their boss. All

Mapp V. Ohio Court Case
Mapp V Ohio Court Case
Summary
The event took place in Cleveland, Ohio, when Dollree Mapp s house was entered by police officers,
who weren t carrying any official search warrants. The police believed she was sheltering a suspected
bomber; no evidence or bodies were found, but police discovered a chest containing explicit pictures
stored within her basement these pictures violated state law. With this discovery, the police arrested
Mapp due to the vulgar images they obtained. Once arrested, Dollree claimed that her fourth
amendment of rights had been violated by the police, and ultimately brought her case to the supreme
court. The supreme court came to the decision that illegally seized evidence shall not be authorized for
use in criminal prosecutions in federal courts and later broadened this ruling to state courts.
Decision
The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects citizens against unlawful searches and
seizures a warrant with reasonable justification to lead a search is required, in this case protecting
Mapp from further conviction (since the police entered without any search warrant). Her case, which
was brought to the US supreme court, ended 5/3 in her favour. The Court proclaimed that all evidence
obtained by searches and seizures in violation of the Constitution is, by [the Fourth ... Show more

Ohio court case impacted the American population because it enforced the rule that police officers are
not authorized to use illegally obtained evidence (breaking the fourth amendment) in court, by
applying the exclusionary rule. The fourth Amendment says that government authorities can t conduct
direct searches or seizures without warrants to support their search. Be that as it may, the amendment
does not explain what happens in the event that they may conduct an unlawful search. Mapps case
caused the exclusionary rule to come about, which says that the proof found in such searches cannot
be used in evidence against a defendant in

  • 2. Occupy London Stock Exchange and the European Convention... On the 15th and 16th day of October 2011, some protestors, led by Tammy Samende and having George Barda and Daniel Ashman, among others, pitched a protest camp in St Paul s Churchyard. The protesters set up between 150 and 200 tents in the churchyard, with some tents serving as accommodation for the protestors. Other tents were allocated different activities including setting up temporary first aid centres, a learning centre, named Tent City University, and a children s place. The tents occupied nearly the entire compound of the church, with the protestors extending their activities to the city s highway. The land occupied by these protestors was subdivided into three areas, area 1, area2 and area 3. Of these three areas, area 3 was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stipulated in section 2 of article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights, authorities can intervene for the sake of protecting other human rights. The same is categorically stated in article 10, which allows for intervention by legal officers for the sake of protecting human rights. These articles shows develop a paradox in that the demonstrators were acting within the constitution, while still breaching other parts of the constitution. By holding demonstrations in the cathedral and across the city s highway, they were exercising their constitutional right. However, by doing the same, they were breaching the constitution because they did not have licences to occupy the land, and they also breached the right of other citizens to exercise their freedom of worship. The demonstrators also breached the right of city dwellers to use public utilities like the highway and the cathedral, which was visited by many people from the country and beyond. The demonstration and pitching of tents in public places therefore breached article 9, and 10 as they made it hard for other individuals to occupy public places and a place of worship. The other statute that was breached is the Local Government Act of 1972. Under this Act, the City of London Corporation reserves the right to local authority. This means that the protestors were meant to notify them before occupying regions within the city. The City of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Google s Uses For Creating And Linking Your Content When it comes to backlinks, they can propel your website to the top of the Google pile, or they can sink your website to the depths of the unknown. After creating your website and spending time as well as effort to build your site, you don t want to be sunk by bad backlinking practices. You want to stay on the good side of Google. To do that, you ll need to practice white hat strategies for creating and linking your content. Link Building of the Past The days of creating thousands of terrible, non related links from spammy sites is over. As little as a few years ago, Google would count the number of links to see who had the most authoritative site. Now, Google s algorithm is more complex, and it s smarter. It will check to see if the content is being shared by others. It will check the quality of the content being created too. The old spammy link building process can actually incur penalties with Google that can actually hurt your search engine optimization. Creating Shareable, Linkable Content Where old strategies would allow you to create any kind of content, which would often be riddled with typos and bad information, Google now wants you to create meaningful, detailed and accurate content that s focused on the reader. You need to do more than create posts and pages of information for your website. The content should be planned in advance. It s helpful to create a content strategy on a spreadsheet to really keep track of the content you d like to add. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Advantages Of Political Dynasty In The Philippines An Argumentative Essay About a Phillipine or Local Issue Topic: Political Dynasty Despite not being an economically rich state, Philippines is known for having people who deeply value their family members. Family oriented Filipinos give importance to even to their most distant relatives as long as they have the same blood running through their veins. In this practice also, Filipinos tend to seek advices from the elders of the family before making a huge decision. Thus, decisions are made not by one for himself but by a group for the entirety of the family. (Agoncillo, 2012, p.6) There is the saying that goes blood is thicker than water. This old saying can be implied to anything, moreover when it is already concerning politics and elections. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This statement did not just come from us but from the research and survey we have conducted. Political dynasty has already been long present in the political structure of the Philippines. It can be manifested when a family member runs, and most often than not, wins the election and his position is soon succeeded by one of his family members as well. This cycle goes on and on and the scope of the family s territory becomes wider and wider every election for the members can run on different places. This is often practiced by rich and influential families; families who have been political since their forefathers and have followed the tradition as well. Political dynasties started to emerge just after the Philippine Revolution happened. It was also when the First Republic of the Philippines was established. The Philippine Revolution was the fight between the people of the Philippines and the Spanish colonizers. According to the book The Making of a Filipino which is written by Renato Constantino, political dynasty was believed to be first recorded way back in the pre Magellanic period where the rulers where the datu, raja, and maharlika. • 5. Puerto Rican Beauty Standards Essay As of recently, the media has been flooded with positive interpretations of beauty standards all over the world. According to various sources, beauty ideals, in women especially, are socially constructed in order to judge a person s value based on physical attractiveness; therefore, it is highly encouraged that people pay attention to their looks and take care of themselves, in order for others to create a positive first impression of one s character. It is no secret that beauty standards vary from one culture to the next and it is difficult to establish a universal principle of what is considered beautiful. Many countries ideals contrast one another and, as a result, allow for stereotypes to emerge. This is the case between American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not uncommon that you ll hear Puerto Ricans refer to themselves as the mutts of the Spanish community, this is because of the island s history. Soon after Christopher Columbus discovered the island in 1493, it became known as the rich port for the Spanish or Puerto Rico, due to the fact that it produced mass amounts of cattle, sugar cane, tobacco, and coffee, especially considering the island s size. Such prosperity and wealth opened the door for the slave trade to enter the colony, and as a result Puerto Rican bloodlines and cultures evolved not only from the Spanish, but also from Africans, and indigenous Taíno and Carib people ( Puerto Rico History and Heritage ). In addition, over the centuries many failed attempts where made by the French, Dutch, and English to conquer the island which even further changed the bloodlines. Of course, as history has it, at the end of the Spanish American war in 1898, the Treaty of Paris declared the the Spanish would surrender Puerto Rico to the United States, therefore infiltrating American culture and beauty ideals. One of the most charming statements ever made about Puerto Rican diversity goes as follows: Their skins were like a rainbow of toasted wood...Some skins were very fair, as fair as his, but they betrayed another something against the bone. Many people who work as garbage men cannot understand one persons language, or way of speaking. Using slang as a language is easier for all of the workers to communicate as a group. In addition to making it easier to communicate there are also several other reasons why New York workers use slang terms. First of all, the garbage men are working in the hot summer. Views on intellectual property vary from the belief that that intellectual property should be protected, to the view that ideas should be completely unrestricted and free to use. Thomas Jefferson believed that ideas had the right to be shared, saying: If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the possession of everyone, and the receiver cannot dispossess himself of it. Its peculiar character, too, is that no one possesses the less, because every other possesses the whole of it. He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. That ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently designed by nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their density in any point, and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being, incapable of confinement or exclusive appropriation. They remind her of the responsibilities that go along with pet ownership, responsibilities that she will have to follow no matter what; it ll grow up from the cute puppy it is now to a gnarly old dog. Jenny says she doesn t mind and soon Fido is welcomed into the family fold. In no time at all the parents love Fido just as much as Jenny does, and Fido loves them all back. But what if Jenny tried to persuade her parents to buy her a fuzzy lion cub she saw advertised, or a baby chimpanzee? If they had any sense, Jenny s parents would tell her No way and stick to their guns. While the idea of owning an exotic animal as a pet can at first seem exciting and daring, it is important to stop and consider the many disadvantages that can come about while owning an exotic animal as a pet. The two articles provided convey why private citizens should not be allowed to keep dangerous (exotic) animals as pets, owning an exotic animal as a pet can put the owner and those around them in danger, there are many responsibilities that come with owning an exotic animal as a pet that allot of people don t think about before buying one, and privately owning an exotic animal puts the animal s health and wellbeing at risk. • 9. Essay on hannibal From the middle of the 3rd century to the middle of the 2nd century BC, Carthage was engaged in a series of wars with Rome (Dorey, P 57). These wars, known as the Punic Wars, ended in the complete defeat of Carthage by Rome. The most prominent figure of the Punic wars was General Hannibal of Pheonician Carthage. During these wars, it s likely that the colonizing expeditions of the Carthaginians were supported by many emigrants from the Phoenician homeland. Hannibal was the son of the great Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca. Finally on the 15th day, after a journey of five months from Cartagena, with 20,000 infantry, 6,000 cavalry, and only a few of the original 38 elephants, Hannibal descended into Italy, having surmounted the difficulties of climate and terrain, the guerrilla tactics of inaccessible tribes, and the major difficulty of commanding a body of men diverse in race and language under conditions to which they were ill fitted (wsu.edu). Hannibal s forces were now totally inadequate to match the army of Scipio, who had rushed to the Po River to protect the recently founded Roman colonies of Placentia (modern Piacenza) and Cremona. The first action between the two armies took place on the plains west of the Ticino River, and Hannibal s Numidian cavalry prevailed. Scipio was severely wounded, and the Romans withdrew to Placentia. After manoeuvres failed to lead to a second engagement, the combined armies of Sempronius Longus and Scipio met Hannibal on the left bank of the Trebia River south of Placentia and were soundly defeated (December 218). This victory brought both Gauls and Ligurians to Hannibal s side, and his army was considerably augmented by Celtic recruits. After a severe winter (in which he contracted an eye infection), he was able to advance in the spring of 217 as far as the Arno River (wsu.edu). The agency also provides hypnotherapy as a therapeutic modality. • 11. Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy Does the high cost of the JLTV preclude it from replacing the HMMWV, as outlined in the 2010 U.S. Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy? In September 2011, the Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee voted to cancel the Army and Marine Corps Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) in their version of the fiscal year 2012 defense bill (Munoz, 2011). This measure could have completely shut down efforts to replace a thirty year old fleet of Humvees, loyal but potentially outmoded tactical wheeled vehicles. The Army s Modernized Expanded Capacity Vehicle program has been a project set to replace the High Mobility, Multi Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) family in the works for years. The project, however, continues to be stymied by budgetary constraints. Per vehicle costs for the JLTV begin at $250,000 and are likely to climb, as Lockheed Martin secured a preliminary contract for engineering, design, and development. The high cost of the JLTV does preclude it from completely replacing the HMMWV, and yet cost does not preclude the JLTV from supplementing the Army s fleet. A middle ground solution is the best method of maximizing initial investments, while also banking on the robustness of national security. The primary argument against adopting the JLTV as a full replacement for the HMMWV is that the HMMWV remains viable, and that resources have already been diverted towards adapting and upgrading the fleet. A considerable amount of money has already been spent on upgrading the existing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advanced technology has created an abundance of things that can be used while driving. The most popular technology used while driving is the cell phone. Although it was invented in the 1970s, the cell phone did not gain momentum until the 2000s. Even during its first days, the effect of a cell phone distraction was already in the spotlight (Brown, Tickner Simmonds, 1969). During the simulated driving condition, there was an abundance of driving errors including; fluctuations in speed, lane deviance and lane change safety (p. 67). Both conditions of cell phone conversation and texting significantly affected driving performance in a negative way, between both of these conditions texting while driving was found to be the most detrimental (p. 67). Furthermore, these researchers concluded that age and experience made no difference when it came to accuracy of driving (p. 68). • 13. Similarities Between Macbeth And Banquo A homograph is a word that is spelled the same but can be pronounced differently or have different meanings. Different pronunciations of the word are used based on the context of the sentence it is in. This same idea is also true of people. Two people can have the exact same experiences, yet react to it in completely different ways. Characters in literature often reflect this same phenomenon, foil characters with identical aspects who react differently to circumstance. By encouraging Macbeth not to fear his prophecy, Shakespeare establishes that his foil Banquo also has a sense of ambition. Unlike Macbeth, however, Banquo has the ability to control his ambition. After Macbeth and Banquo receive prophecies, the foil characters start to diverge as Banquo s takes the moral path of goodness while Macbeth takes the immoral path towards his ultimate decline. Banquo and Macbeth have the opportunity to pursue the same path, but because of his unchecked ambition, Macbeth deviates from Banquo s path of good morals. Immediately after the witches tell their prophecies, Banquo s mindset is wary and rational. He warns Macbeth that, oftentimes, to win us to our harm, / the instruments of darkness tell us truths... • 16. The Myth Of The White Hare Of Inaba Is The Oldest... Compiled nearly 1300 years ago, the Kojiki is the oldest surviving collection of Japanese myths, which serve as the backbone for Shinto practices. Thirteen centuries later, those very same myths live on, sometimes in forms which could not even exist until about a decade ago. In particular, the myth of The White Hare of Inaba is reincarnated through a few modern day games. It tells the story of a cunning rabbit who crosses the sea by tricking wani (translated as crocodiles by B. H. Chamberlain, but it can also be rendered as sharks) into lying in a row. The hare reveals the nature of his trickery, and the last crocodile enacts revenge by ripping off all of the hare s fur. Eighty gods, all brothers, stumble upon the hare, but they respond to the rabbit s plea for help by giving dishonest advice that only causes the white hare more pain. The eighty first brother, named Ōkuninushi, then finds the hare and gives proper aid to restore the rabbit s hide. In return, the white hare of Inaba prophesizes that Ōkuninushi will marry Princess Yakami of Inaba, whom the eighty one brothers sought to court. As can be seen through examples from Cardfight!! Vanguard and the Touhou series, the myth can be taken, reshaped, and used in a variety of ways without completely losing the original context. • 18. Differences Of Abrahamic Religions Throughout the duration of human history, one question has been omnipresent in the minds of philosophers and common folk alike: Does god exist? While dozens of religions have been established with unique and varying elaborations on this question, the three principal Abrahamic religions stand out for their massive accumulations of devoted followers. And though the fundamentals of the Abrahamic religions are inherently different, they all share similar ideology on the afterlife. Furthermore, these three religions homogeneously stress the importance of prayer as a means to achieve fulfillment. And although there are many parallel ideas and practices, these religions also host an abundance of differences. Namely, the difference in the interpretation of the Old and New Testaments. Moreover, Abrahamic religions even draw differences in their dietary restrictions. One of the more interesting points of concurrence in the three major Abrahamic religions is the belief in an afterlife. Though conditions of the afterlife in Abrahamic religions vary, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all emphasize the importance of staying in god s grace in order to ascend to a variation of heaven after the physical body dies here on Earth. In these regions worshippers are promised post mortal nirvana after death in exchange for their servitude in life. Conversely, in Christianity and Islam, if a follower veers from the righteous path they are likely to wind up in hell. Hell being of course, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rolex Essay Rolex, the esteemed timepiece manufacturer, known globally as a statement of success, quality, and prestige, is regarded in the watch market as part of the highest tier of timepieces. The Swiss watch company was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother in law William Davis in London, with the vision of making quality timepieces more popular. They chose Rolex as the name because they believed that the sound a watch made while being wound sounded like the word while also being short enough to fit on any size watch. In 1914, Kew Observatory awarded a Rolex watch a Class A precision certificate, a distinction normally granted exclusively to marine chronometers. In 1926, Wilsdorf developed and patented the first truly water resistant watch, the Oyster. Rolex capitalized on the event by using it in advertisements, and by building displays in jewelers windows that featured a watch submerged in a small tank of water. Eventually, Rolex brand had gained such prestige that British Royal Air Force pilots brought them to replace the inferior watches that were normally issued. Pilots captured during the war frequently had their wares confiscated, but when pilots wrote to the company describing their experiences, Rolex would replace the watches at no cost. This led American servicemen learned of Rolex while stationed in Europe, thus helping to open the lucrative U.S. market to the company. By using these unique marketing opportunities to their advantage, Rolex raised brand awareness and furthered its reputation as a major player in the watch market. In the post war era the company set its sights on further expanding the brand and Rolex continued to build its high performance reputation. However, unlike the wetland mitigation system, conservation offsets do not have a stated no net loss goal, but instead have a species recovery goal. Both conservation and wetlands mitigation banks are privately or publicly owned lands which are protected and managed for its ecological value. Plus studies have shown that on site mitigation often failed to produce compensatory wetland resource values (Ruhl et al., 2005). Wetland mitigation seeks to replace functions that are damaged or lost at the impact site by creating, restoring, or enhancing wetlands nearby, generally in the same watershed or eco region. When wetland mitigation banks are not available, the alternative is on site or off site mitigation performed by the permit applicant. These project specific mitigation sites led to small, isolated wetlands being restored that provided minimal ecological uplift to the watershed. Wetland mitigation banking can be used to combine the smaller wetland restorations sites into larger restored habitats that can better replace the lost functions from the impacts. Regulatory agencies express a preference for wetland credits generated from restoration, creation, or enhancement instead of preservation. This is in line with the no net loss policy, which seeks to maintain the wetland acreage or even increase the acreage in the United States. Conservation banking took the idea of wetland banking and transformed it into threatened and endangered species conservation with a few alterations. The primary objective of wetland mitigation is to meet the no net loss goal by replacing the acreage and function of the wetland areas that will be impacted by a proposed project. The goal of ... The essay will look at brain plasticity in the context of brain injury, specifically that which occurs during a stroke and discuss how it is possible for regions of the brain to reconstruct to serve new functions, which were previously allocated to other regions in the brain. The effectiveness of the rehabilitation methods which use the idea of brain plasticity to help stroke patients regain previously lost functions, will also be considered. Brain plasticity is the ability of the brain to change and develop throughout life or with training. This occurs when the neurons make new connections and the brain reorganises. There are 3 main situations in which the brain changes: the beginning of life to organise itself, when you have brain injury, to compensate for damage caused, and then throughout adulthood as we learn new skills. Genetics only cause the brain to develop to a certain point, the rest of the brains development depends on life experiences. The brain is known as being plastic , it can mould to what is happening in our environment, be that drugs, hormones, relationships or diet. The developing brain is more sensitive to change than the older brain, and the same experience can have different effects on the brain at different ages. • 39. John Taylor Howling Wolf Analysis While these artists renditions of the Treaty Signing at Medicine Lodge Creek contain the same content, John Taylor and Howling Wolf s show very different views. I believe that the difference in views arose due to the fact that these two men had different cultural backgrounds from one another. John Taylor was a hired journalist while Howling Wolf was Native American. John Taylor s sketch has a very natural feel while Howling Wolf s is abstract. John Taylor s illustration is more natural and realistic than representational because he was focusing on what he saw at the treaty signing, but his beliefs may have caused him to make the Native Americans look stern and no nonsense by creating micro facial expressions. • 40. Human Trafficking And Its Effects On Human Rights Human trafficking is an assault on human rights and a violation of one s dignity by means of forced labor, sex trafficking, bonded labor, and/or domestic servitude. It remains to be both a local and global issue, occurring in nearly every country, and its networks are vast and formidable to investigate (Jesionka 2012). Despite government, activist groups and other organization s methods of intervention, human trafficking is still a major concern with more individuals enslaved now than ever before. Traffickers are able to coerce, deceive, threaten, and obtain complete control over their victims. Many of whom are poor, illegal immigrants in search of a job to help support and provide for their families. In their poverty and desperation, they willingly fall victim to the trade and end up abused, overworked, underpaid, and most often unable to return home. Throughout this class we have examined multiple different countries in which human trafficking still remains an unsolved issue. Such as, Afghanistan s opium brides, Bangladesh s factory workers, Thailand s child prostitutes, agricultural slaves in the United States, and baby trafficking in China. How do so many individuals end up trafficked? Why does this still remain such a large problem in the 21st century? Is it something that is forever ingrained in our society? I chose to explore these couple of questions and more in hopes of answering the last one. Maybe slavery is part of our culture and something that will never be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. I Have A Dream Speech Analysis 54 years ago, Martin Luther King Jr delivered his famous I have a dream speech , which along with Lincoln s Gettysburg address are examples of the best oratory works. The two speeches were critical to the growth and development of America. They come from two men from different backgrounds and different times but with one common goal, equality for all. Standing on the same spot as Lincoln did five score years ago, King preached similar themes of justice, equality and freedom. Lincolns speech was a eulogy to those who died in the battle of Gettysburg, at the time America was at civil war. Lincoln spoke to a crowd of thousands to inspire them to keep fighting the war. In comparison to King, who stood before a crowd of over 200,000 people at the Lincoln memorial and shared his dream of a new future for black Americans. The context of each address has a profound impact upon their purpose and qualities. One distinct quality of Lincolns speech is that it is structured in chronological order, with each of the three separate paragraphs encompassing the past, present and future. This is a device used by Lincoln to build up his audience s attention to the speeches climatic end. This can be compared to Kings structural approach, where he uses a ladder technique to construct his points in order of ascending importance. Once again ending strongly with the line: Free at last! Free at last! Thank God almighty we are free at last! Both methods of structure of the speeches assist in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. A Note On Gs Expression System a) GS expression system is used to select high express cells, where glutamine synthetase (GS) is used as a selectable marker. Normal functioned cell produce use glutamate and ammonium to produce glutamine, with the presence of glutamine synthetase. To select, firstly, glutamine was eliminated from culture media as the selective pressure. Only cell with strong expression potential can overcome this condition. The cells survived this selection then proceeded to the second selection, where methionine sulphoxamine (MSX) was added into the media. MSX is a specific inhibitor of GS that stop normal GS function. Therefore, only cells whose plasmid contains both the gene of interest and a copy the glutamine synthetase (GS) gene can survive this condition. Due to the presence of GS gene in their plasmid, the glutamine synthesis was not halted in these survived high expresser cells. These cells were hence selected for cell line production. b) The specific productivity (qp) in mammalian cell bioreactor mean the amount of cells made per unit time per volume. To increase bioreactor productivity, the value of qp need to be maximised. To achieve a high specific productivity, a cell line with higher efficiency is needed. A well designed and well developed cell line requires: 1). A strong promoter strength so that genes can express effectively; 2) amplification of the system to give a reasonable system scale to exploit the production potential of the cell factory. • 44. External Estimates Measures from External Estimates External Estimates of the Number of Abortions Pooled and by Individual Year The counts of the total number of abortions for the study period years come from published information from the Guttmacher Institute s census of abortion providers (Finer and Henshaw 2003; Jones and Kavanaugh 2011). Following prior research, I used the CDC s age distribution for each year to calculate the expected number of abortions that occurred in the age distribution of Add Health for each year, except in the years when an age distribution was collected by the Guttmacher Institute s survey of abortion patients (Kost and Jones 2007; Fu et al. 1998). Because the CDC data is provided in ages ranges (under 15; 15 19; 20 24; 25 29; 30 34; 35 39; 40+), the Add Health data was restricted to best match these ranges (see Appendix 2 for further details). The overall quality analyses (years 1994 through 2007) could potentially include pregnancies between the ages of 10 (the youngest individuals in Wave 1 in 1994) and 32 (the oldest individuals in Wave 4 in 2008). Though it should be noted that pregnancies under the age of 13 would be somewhat improbable considering the median age of menarche in the U.S. is 12.43 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spline and linear interpolated age estimates from the Guttmacher Institute s survey of abortion patients were compared with the estimates used to test the robustness of these analyses, and no significant differences were found when comparing the 95% confidence intervals (see Appendix 3A and Appendix 3B). • 45. Essay about Comparison of Flood Stories Comparison of Flood Stories There have been numerous flood stories identified from ancient sources throughout the world. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but also share differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood accounts. Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man. The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who asked God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible, God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was upon it because of man s wickedness. The Bible states that it rained for forty days and forty nights with the water coming from heavy rain and ground water. It also says that after Noah landed on a mountain it took a long time for the Earth to dry up. During this time Noah sent out a raven and three doves until the last of the three doves did not return and then he knew the land was dry. In Gilgamesh the rain only lasted for six days and six nights and after stopping on the mountain the land did not take as long to dry up. Utnapishtim also sent out birds to see if the water was still standing but he sent out a dove, a swallow, and a raven. When the raven did not return Utnapishtim knew the Earth was clean. Both Noah and Utnapishtim made sacrifices at the end of the flood and both were blessed but in different ways. • 47. Malaria Mosquitoes Can Transmit Malaria Malaria is spread to people by the female Anopheles mosquito. Only Anopheles mosquitoes can transmit malaria. These mosquitos must have been infected through previous blood taken from an infected person. When a mosquito bites an infected person, a small amount of blood is taken and contains microscopic malaria parasites. (CDC, 2015) When the mosquito takes its next blood meal from another person a week later, the parasites will be injected. The malaria parasite is found in red blood cells of an infected person. It can be transmitted through an organ transplant, blood transfusion, or shared use of needles or syringes contaminated with blood. Malaria can also be transmitted from a mother to her unborn infant before or during delivery. This is known as congenital malaria. Malaria is not contagious in any way. It cannot be spread from person to person like a cold, and cannot be sexually transmitted. (CDC, 2015) While the mosquito is feeding, the parasite is injected with the saliva of the mosquito. The parasite first undergoes a round of merogony in the liver followed by multiple rounds of merogony in the erythrocytes (CDC, 2015). Which means that an asexual process has begun that will increase the number of infected cells by multiple cell divisions. The life cycle will contain other parasites that are characterized by sexual replication and also the formation of the invasive stages. (Wiser, 2011) The cycle begins with the liver Stage. If they have someone screaming at them for hours on end it wears them out and makes them snap. Customers only have to deal with someone being mean for the time they are at the drive thru, where as the worker has to sit through hours of screaming and complaining from other customers. Ohio Court Case Mapp V Ohio Court Case Summary The event took place in Cleveland, Ohio, when Dollree Mapp s house was entered by police officers, who weren t carrying any official search warrants. The police believed she was sheltering a suspected bomber; no evidence or bodies were found, but police discovered a chest containing explicit pictures stored within her basement these pictures violated state law. With this discovery, the police arrested Mapp due to the vulgar images they obtained. Once arrested, Dollree claimed that her fourth amendment of rights had been violated by the police, and ultimately brought her case to the supreme court. The supreme court came to the decision that illegally seized evidence shall not be authorized for use in criminal prosecutions in federal courts and later broadened this ruling to state courts. Decision The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects citizens against unlawful searches and seizures a warrant with reasonable justification to lead a search is required, in this case protecting Mapp from further conviction (since the police entered without any search warrant).
