Comparing Tyram-James Rumble Fish And The Outsiders
Things are rough all over. S.E Hinton quoted in her book The Outsiders . Rumble Fish and The
Outsiders are both very similar books. Although there are many differences. Some major differences
between the main characters, Rusty James and Ponyboy, are love, strength, and confidence.
In both books, Rusty James and Ponyboy look up to and love their brothers greatly, but they reveal
their love separately. Rusty James expresses his love by trying to act just like his brother, Motorcycle
Boy. In other words, he acts cool, tough, and tries to be a leader. Ponyboy and his brothers bond is so
great that Ponyboy doesn t need to show much more love unlike Rusty James and Motorcycle Boy.
Even though both main characters are 14 and built for their

By definition, serial is a story or play appearing in regular installments on television or radio or in a
periodical. (Merriam Webster) Serial, is a podcast that raises a lot of questions, mostly unanswered
ones. Serial exposes the holes in not only our justice system but also, our basic human rights. We, as
humans, have specific rights that are suppose to be protected by the law however, that is not the case
for Adnan Syed. Before justice can be sought for Adnan Syed, viewers, lawyers and even prosecutors
need to understand what human rights is. As people, we tend to forget the rights we have especially
when confronted by the justice system. Human rights doesn t have a complex definition, it is fairly
simple. Human rights is the rights you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

taught to look at all the evidence presented to us before making a judgmental call and that is not what
the State of Maryland did. They use unjustifiable evidences and statements that just don t seem to add

Abstract
Causes of dyslexia or reading disabilities have been hotly debated by researchers and educators.
Knowledge regarding the causes of reading disabilities is important as they define the strategies that
will used to help students with dyslexia learn. Dyslexia is caused by differences in the information
processing patterns of learning disability students. Language and phonological skills have been found
to be the main cause of reading problems. This paper presents a critique and summarizes a paper
dealing with phonological skills and how they affect the ability to read. Besides this the paper will

Therefore, an educator needs to know the areas to focus that will produce the best results and help the
student learn. Results from various studies have shown that besides intelligence the ability to
sequence, analyze, and remember sounds are the biggest contributors to reading achievement (Smith,
2003). In view of these finding it is important to isolate the fields within this area that will have the
greatest impact and help direct the learning strategies. A study along these lines was conducted by
Melby Lervåg, Lyster, amp; Hulme. Melby Lervåg, Lyster, amp; Hulme (2012) conducted a meta
analytic study to study the relationship between phonological skills and student s reading abilities.
Under phonological skills mainly three factors were considered. They are verbal short term memory,
phonemic awareness, and rime awareness. The authors compared children with dyslexia with the same
age and reading level control group of children to measure the affect and strength of correlation
between verbal short memory, rime awareness and phonemic awareness on a child s word reading
abilities.
Summary
Various researchers have found that there is a relationship between phonemic awareness, rime
awareness and verbal short term memory. Melby Lervåg, Lyster, amp; Hulme (2012) wanted to take
their studies a step further and establish the strength of the relation between the three variables

Hormone Replacement Therapy Essay
Hormone Replacement Therapy in Transgendering the FTM Transsexual
Gender may well be the most defining factor in the spectrum of elements that comprise the human
persona. In fact gender is so basic to our identity, most people mistakenly assume that our sense of
being male or female is defined with absolute certainty by our anatomical sex. Contrary to popular
belief, our sense of gender and anatomical sex are two distinct elements; each developing at different
times in different parts of the body. While my research is limited to hormone replacement therapy
involved in masculinizing a biological female, it should be noted that the psychiatric, psychological,
and medical factors that contribute to cases of gender dysforia are major ... Show more content on

Overview of Hormone Replacement Therapy for the FTM Transexual
Fundamental to sex reassignment treatment of transsexuals is the acquisition of the sex characteristics
of the other sex to the fullest extent possible. With the exception of the internal and external genitalia,
sex characteristics are contingent of the biological effects of the respective sex steroids. Hormonal
reassignment has therefore two aims: 1) to eliminate, in so far as possible, the hormonally induced
secondary sex characteristics of the natal sex and 2) to induce those of the new sex.
Biologic females treated with testosterone experience the following permanent changes: a deepening
of the voice, clitoral enlargement, mild breast atrophy, increased facial and body hair and male pattern
baldness. Reversible changes include increased upper body strength, weight gain, increased social and
sexual interest and arousability, and decreased hip mass.
Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT)
Hormones are long range chemical messengers of the body, manufactured and controlled by the
endocrine system. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). This signals
the anterior pituitary gland to synthesize and release luteinizing hormone (LH). To a lesser degree,
GnRH also triggers the synthesis and release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Subsequently, LH
and FSH signal the gonads (ovaries in females, testes in males) to synthesize and release hormones
that cause

Lithium Research Paper
Lithium is the third element on the periodic table and is known as the lightest metal, and is half as
dense as water. It is a part of the Alkali metals, meaning it is in the first group on the periodic table.
Lithium is normally not found in nature, due to the fact that it has a very unstable nucleus. The name
Lithium is derived from the Greek word lithos, which means stone . This name was likely given to
Lithium due to the fact that it was discovered in the mineral petalite (LiAl(Si2O5)2) by Johann August
Arfvedson in 1817. It was later isolated through the form of electrolysis of lithium oxide by William
Thomas Brande. Lithium is made of two stable isotopes, with Lithium 6 containing 3 neutrons and
accounting 7.59% of the natural abundance of lithium, and Lithium 7 containing 4 neutrons and
accounting for 92.41% of lithium s natural abundance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One typically thinks of batteries when they think of lithium, as they are heavily involved in the
process of making rechargeable, storage, and dry batteries. Lithium alloys can also be formed when
combined with elements such as copper, aluminium, cadmium, and manganese in order to help create
light parts for aircraft. It is also added to glass in order to make it lighter and stronger as well. Lithium
is also used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, and because of this, has become the inspiration for
two songs, both named Lithium, by the bands Nirvana and Evanescence. When mixed with hydroxide,
Lithium hydroxide is used to absorb the carbon dioxide found in space vehicles. Because it produces a

Biography of a Runaway Slave
Miguel Barnet s Biography of a Runaway Slave: Testimonial Literature as History
Few documentary sources exist from the Caribbean islands and the Latin American mainland written
by Africans or their descendants that describe their life under enslavement. In Brazil, two mulatto
abolitionists wrote sketchy descriptions of their personal experiences, and one autobiography of a
black man was published before emancipation. In contrast, several thousand slave narratives and eight
full length autobiographies were published in the United States before the outbreak of the Civil War
(1860 1865) (Conrad, p. xix). In Cuba, one slave narrative appeared in the nineteenth century. Penned

Black women and men from various African nations resided on the sugar plantations, including
Musungo Congos, Mandingos, Gangas, Lucumis and Carabalis. Montejo comments on the games
played by Africans, sugar refining in small mills, taverns that sold supplies to the slaves, and religious
practices. He rejects the myth that Africans committed suicide by hanging or drowning themselves,
but argues instead that they flew back to their homeland with a religious object (known as a prenda)
tied to their waist. Slaves loved music, particularly the use of the drum. Montejo laments that the
white man s music had no drum at all. Tasteless (Barnet 1994, p. 33). Montejo depicts the Africans
with whom he lived as people of great physical beauty, compassion, and sensuality. He also presents
clear evidence of the brutal treatment inflicted on these African slaves by masters and overseers.
Planters often locked their slaves in stocks for two or three months for minor offenses, and whipping
was common. The barracoon [slave quarters] was bare dirt, empty, and lonely (Barnet 1994, p. 24).
Slaves rose at 4:30 a.m. and then worked from 6:00 a.m. until sunset cutting sugar cane and working
in the mill.
In a chapter entitled Life in the Woods, Montejo talked about his decision to escape. After throwing a
rock that hit the head of the overseer, he ran from the fields into nearby

What is a federal bureaucracy? According to American Government: Roots and Reform federal
bureaucracy is defined as the thousands of federal government agencies and institutions that
implement and administer federal laws and programs. When the bureaucracy was first created it
contained only three small departments; State, Treasury, and War. Over time the Executive branch and
bureaucracy have grown significantly, now employing over three million people. This began with
people getting fed up with the dismal living situations of the early 20th century. They began looking to

A Short Note On Emphysema, The Irreversible Enlargement Of...
Emphysema
Megan Kehn
Delta College
April 15, 2015
Pathophysiology Emphysema is the irreversible enlargement of the acini that includes the destruction
of the walls of the alveoli without apparent fibrosis (Huether McCance, 2012). The alveolar septa is
destroyed which then amplifies the amount of air in the acinus. Inhalation of pulmonary irritants such
as cigarette smoke and certain environmental pollutants is thought to lead to the hindering of the
endogenous antiproteases and stimulate inflammation with the increased activity of the proteases.
With This results in the destruction of the aveoli and decline in the elastic recoil of the bronchi. When
alveoli are damaged it leads to a decrease in the surface area available ... Show more content on

There are numerous factors that increase the possibility of developing COPD, including occupational
and environmental exposure to chemicals, dusts, and pollutants, alpha1 antitrypsin deficiency and
cigarette smoking. When cigarette smoke is inhaled the particles enter the lungs and create an
inflammatory response. In response to the inflammation, macrophages and neutrophils penetrate into
the lung and release cytokines, chemokines and elastases which destroy the lung parenchyma.
Objective manifestations of emphysema include barrel chest, accessory muscle use, diminished breath
sounds, and wheezing on auscultation. Subjective manifestations consist of patient complaints of
wheezing, persistent cough, anorexia, dyspnea, weight loss, chest tightness and fatigue. Dyspnea is a
progressive manifestation that begins with exertion and eventually leads to dyspnea at rest (Lewis,

The Rational Choice Theory Of Cesare Beccaria
The topic I have chosen to write this research paper over is the rational choice theory. The rational
choice theory started with the work of Cesare Beccaria in the late eighteenth century. From that point
forward, the theory has been developed and opened up to incorporate different viewpoints, like
discouragement and routine activity theory. The rational choice theory is a monetary rule that
expresses that people dependably settle on reasonable and legitimate choices. These choices furnish
individuals with the best advantage or fulfillment, given the decisions accessible and are likewise in
their most elevated self interest.
Rational choice theory accepts that all individuals attempt to effectively expand their preference in any
circumstance and in this way reliably attempt to minimize their misfortunes. The hypothesis depends
on the possibility that all people construct their choices in light of sound figuring s, act with
discernment when picking, and intend to increment either delight or benefit. Rational choice theory
likewise stipulates that all unpredictable social wonders are driven by individual human activities.
Accordingly, if a business analyst needs to clarify social change or the activities of social
organizations, he needs to take a look at the balanced choices of the people that make up the entirety.
The rational choice theory permits inclinations to be spoken to as genuine esteemed utility capacities.
Monetary basic leadership then turns into an issue of

Good evening to everyone and thanks President Rob for giving me the opportunity to have this last

Being an exchange student means that you discover new ways of living, and because you are hosted
by different families, that way changes every time: it could be a difference in what you eat, in what
you do and in what you gain knowledge of; it could be the language that they use in the house, or in
how many kids they have. Being an exchange student means also that you get to know many others

People are selling their Foods Stamps through various methods like taking people to the store and
buying food. Individuals are making packaged deals to outsmart the system. For example, Food
Stamps are generally more than actual money because it is government funded. So therefore, non

Animal Experimentation And The Animal Welfare Act
Miriam Rothschild once said, None of my teachers, lecturers, or professors... ever suggested that one
should respect the lives of animals in the laboratory or that they, and not the experiments, however
fascinating and instructive, were worthy of greater consideration (1986, p. 50). 95% of animals used in
experiments are not protected by the federal Animal Welfare Act. This law excludes animals such as
birds, mice, and rats that are bred primarily for research purposes. The Animal Welfare Act regulates
the housing and transportation of animals, but no rule or regulation exists that restricts the actual
research or experimentation of these animals. Animal experimentation has heavily contributed to the
advancement of the medical field, but precautions need to be taken to ensure the safety of these
animals.
The majority of the population is not aware of what actually goes on during animal research and
experimentation. A lot of the times animal experimentation can be painful, brutal and unnecessary.
One example would be at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1984 a small group snuck into the section of
the University where head trauma was being researched. It was no ordinary research, baboons were
the main subjects in many of their studies and experiments. This group was part of the Animal

The LORD tells Hosea to love his wife again so he buys her back from a slave market and tells her she
must live with and be faithful to him. The LORD is extremely distressed by Israel s lack of love and
acknowledgment of His existence. He describes how they have reverted to lying, cheating , stealing,
murder, etc. and further fail to follow his word. The priests during this time are not to be let off lightly.
God tells how the priests have not spread His message, but rather they ve fed off the Israelites sins.
God tells how he s going to punish the people of Israel, for their sins, and the priests, for their lack of
concern. He closes by saying he will go to his place and not recognize the peoples of Israel until they
earnestly seek him out.
In chapter 11 God capsulizes Israel s sins and his judgment against the people. He describes how he
chose the Israelites as His people and how he delivered them from slavery in Egypt. During this
dissertation he has a change of heart and decides he will not destroy the nation Israel even if they turn
from Him. He decides he will force Israel to repent by less destructive means.

against God and how the

Created and established as one of the most superior facets within the United States criminal justice
system, the Federal Bureau of Prisons is an agency that derives from the United States Department of
Justice. Originating from the federal law enforcement agency sector, this system is accountable for a
vast array of administrative duties pertaining to, but not limited to, commissioning the aspects of the
federal prison system. Erected in 1930, the Bureau of Prisons was invoked as a means of mandating a
feasible endeavor to conducting regulations and governing all federal penal correctional institutions.
As the rapid evolution stemming from its formation excelled at an alarming rate, the agency that
comprised of 11 operated facilities quickly evolved to 114 prisons in addition to 6 regional offices,

weaknesses, opportunities, and threats has without a doubt summoned a more keen sensibility towards
this monstrosity of dynamics that has embedded itself into the very core of the United States

Mr Hyde Duality
Both the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde support the duality of human
personality. However, Stevenson argues that one has no choice but to follow their evil desires, where
as Wilde argues that society and influence cause people to follow their desires. Corruption of man
exists in both novels, in The Picture of Dorian Gray society makes one corrupt, but in Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde society controls evil desires that may otherwise take over one s personality. The duality of
humans has been explored by many, and both novels agree that one has both evil and good desires.
Furthermore, the novels also support the importance of appearance as a critical part of maintaining
ones good side. Human nature can be both good and evil as Jekyll would say man is not one but two .
Jekyll and Hyde show this duality by each taking one side of Dr.Jekyll s personality. In The Picture of

Prometheus starts with a create but ends with a monster. The creature suffers an extraordinary amount
in an amazingly short timespan. It is essentially the not funny version of Candide. Initially, I felt
extreme pity for the creature. His only family left him (i.e., Victor Frankenstein) and he had little
knowledge of his world. Even after murdering, I still pitied the creature. Victor, in my opinion, was
the real killer and was guilty of negligence that lead to someone dying. Shelley s novel prompted the
most logical arguments out of the books we read. Is the creature guilty? And as I have already said, I
did not think he was. But as the novel unfolded, I found myself feeling extremely sorry for the
monster while simultaneously slowly realizing his guilt in the situation, which makes him a monster.
When Victor meets his creation on the mountain is when my opinion started to shift, but when the
monster plans revenge on Victor and executes his wife. No amount of ignorance and lack of self
control excuses a being from first degree murder, which is willful, deliberate, and premeditated. This
self awareness of a reader s own opinion of the monster can measure one s morality and is the true
horror of the novel. Yes, all the events that happen the monster are horrific in their own right. But,

3.1 PESTEL Analysis The PESTEL analysis can be used to analysis the market environment in which
HTC operates in, they include: Political Factors and Legal Factors * Due to the high tech nature of the
industry, products from various companies are heavily patented and since similar technology is used
between manufacturers, infringement of these patents can lead to very costly lawsuits against the
company. * In 2008 as well 2010, lawsuits were filed against HTC by companies such as Apple and
IPCom claiming that HTC infringed upon their patents and demanded compensation such as to
prevent the company from exporting their products into certain countries (Datamonitor, 2011). *
Possible infringement of intellectual property in the future which if proven would result in large
compensation in money as well as damaging the brand image. Economic Factors * Since the company
operates on the global scale and since most of their revenue comes from international markets, HTC
would be positively or negative affected by fluctuation in the exchange rates. * Due to high operating
expenses overseas, such as high cost of labour and taxation, HTC s operating margins have dropped
from 19.9% in 2008 to 15.8% in 2010. However, these margins are considered low when compared to
their competitors (Datamonitor, 2011). Social Factors * According to several report, the demand of

Everyone s A Critic By Neil Gaiman
Everyone s a critic. We critique everything we see. We critique people s outfits, their sense of style,
and even how they write. Imagine putting stories or novels out there for everyone to see. Well millions
of writers get critiqued everyday on their writing especially Neil Gaiman. Neil Gaiman s stories How
To Talk to Girls at parties , Cinnamon , and Stardust all share one thing in common that a feminist
critique would point out: the poor portrayal of woman. A feminist critique would point out the unfair
bias or lack of equality. In all three of these pieces the woman are shown in different light as men.
Neil Gaiman s short story How to meet girls at parties shows how Victor s attitude towards girls was
very disrespectful and demeaning. Before entering the party Victor had his eyes set on one thing.
Girls. Girls! Girls! Girls! He grinned with white teeth. He walked in and found exactly what he s
looking for, a beautiful girl. However throughout the story Vic would look at Stella as property rather
than an equal. He was standing with his arm around Stella, protectively, waving at me. By placing his
arm around Stella, he is trying to show the other boys at the party that Stella is strictly his also, by
showing her public displays of affection when he kisses her in front of everyone. But, Enn had a very
different experience at the party. Enn runs across a very strange girl, Wain s Wain. When the two
exchanged names Wain s Wain mentions that the name belongs to

The Problem Of Ineffective Leadership
CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM Ineffective Leadership: Leaders who participate in dishonest practices
regularly make an environment of recompense inside of the association that is helpful for deviant
worker conduct that parallels that of the pioneer (Trevino and Brown, 2005). Employees will watch
the moral judgment of their CEO or overseeing chief and are frequently liable to mirror, regardless of
the possibility that such impersonation constitutes acting unscrupulously. Generally, regardless of
whether a pioneer is compensated for his or her conduct will likewise help focus the probability of
representative impersonation. A few powers make despicable comments, verbally ill use, exclude, and
put down their subordinates. Exploration and media reports recommend that turning into a casualty of
leaders coldhearted treatment is a negative ordeal for workers, impeding to their prosperity and the
proficiency of the association. Abuse by leaders has been alluded to in a few ways, including
interpersonal shamefulness, oppressive supervision social undermining, oppression, and tormenting
(Hoel Cooper, 2001). Albeit every conceptualization has unpretentious contrasts, they all include
workers observations that some of their principal mental needs are hindered by a power figure.
Abused workers react contrarily to pioneer abuse and are more prone to take part in freak conduct,
damaging standards of thoughtful behavior and of productive creation (Bennett Robinson, 2000).

Abstract
This paper is about the problems the military is having on the fairness of military awards and the bias
towards junior officers and junior soldiers not getting the higher awards. First, should military awards
be based on rank or merit because hard work and merit is the reason for the award? Even though rank
may play a small factor, should military awards be based on rank or merit because hard work and

As Senior NCO?s we need to come up with ways to help fix the awards process to make it fair and
based on merit not rank or position.
According to ?AR 600 8 22 / 25 June 2015 para 3 1 c: The decision to award an individual a
decoration and the decision as to which award is appropriate are both subjective decisions made by the
commander having award approval authority. Awards for meritorious achievement or service will not
be based upon the grade of the intended recipient. Rather, the award should reflect both the
individual?s level of responsibility and his or her manner of performance. The degree to which an
individual?s achievement or service enhanced the readiness or effectiveness of his or her organization
will be the leading factor?.
I think the AR 600 8 22 is very clear on the guidance for awards and we need to change the way
awards are written and ensure the commander knows and understands the process.
My Personal Frustration with the Awards Process
As a Sergeant Major I have sat on numerous military awards boards and have written many
recommendations for awards for my soldiers and military personnel in my units. I was deployed to

Summary Of The Journey By Primo Levi
Primo Levi was a Jewish writer and Holocaust survivor from the concentration Auschwitz. Primo Levi
talks about in his book called Survival in Auschwitz about what it means to survive. There are many
quotes that stand out in his book and have strong importance to them. The first quote that stands out in
Primo Levi s book is in chapter one, The Journey . In this chapter, Primo Levi is describing his arrival.
An important quote from this chapter is when Primo Levi says They walked in squads, in rows of
three, with an odd, embarrassed step, head dangling in front, arms rigid. On their heads they wore
comic berets and were all dressed in long striped overcoats, which even by night and from a distance
looked filthy and in rags. They walked in a large circle around us, never drawing near, and in silence
began to busy themselves with our luggage and to climb in and out of the empty wagons (Levi 20).
Primo Levi is describing his arrival at Auschwitz. The importance of this quote is of the picture Primo
Levi puts in the reader s mind. Primo Levi does a great job describing in emotional detail of what his
arrival was like. In the next paragraph, Primo Levi says We looked at each other without a word. It
was all incomprehensible and mad. But one thing we had understood. This was the metamorphosis
that awaited us. Tomorrow we would be like them (Levi 21). This quote stands out because it shows
the realization Primo Levi had while watching the poor, lifeless Auschwitz prisoners work. By
watching the prisoners, Primo Levi had fully acknowledged that this is the life that awaits him the
next day. This is important for Primo Levi because by understanding what the future holds for him in
Auschwitz, he can better prepare himself for survival in Auschwitz. Primo Levi has a couple quotes in
chapter two, On the Bottom, that stand out and have significant importance to them. In Chapter two,
Primo Levi talks about the numbers being tattooed on his arm and what it means to him. Primo Levi
says I have learnt that I am Haftling. My number is 174517; we have been baptized, we will carry the
tattoo on our left arm until we die (Levi 27). This quote had many importances to it. First, Levi says
how they have just been

Essay about Evaluating the Main Theories of Counseling
This essay will attempt to highlight and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the three main
theories of counselling within the module covered this term. The three approaches in discussion are
psychodynamics, cognitive behavioural and humanistic.
The psychodynamic theory originated from Sigmund Freud, a medical doctor and philosopher (1856
1939) founded in the 1900s. Freud developed his ideas whilst working as a psychiatrist in Vienna,
collecting information from his patients such as feelings, thoughts and early childhood experiences.
The psychodynamic theory focuses on the unconscious mind. Freud s credence is that different mental
forces operate in the mind. The unconscious mind can be described as being like an iceberg. The ...

The Id is the unconscious state of mind; it is responsible for our voluptuous and immediate
satisfaction. It is our basic drives such as life instincts (Eros) and death instincts (Thantos); it is also
responsible for our libido (sexual instinct).
The Ego is the conscious state, the rational mind which organises our thoughts and makes sense of
them. This develops during the first two years of life.
The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right
and wrong.
Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other. It
involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to behave
leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue.
The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to
reduce anxiety and stress. Some defence mechanisms include; repression, displacement, projection,
denial and intellectualisation.
Techniques used by Psychodynamic therapists consist of; dream therapy (making sense of dreams and
interpretation into reasons behind them), hypnosis and free association.
While most psychodynamic theories did not rely on experimental research the methods and theories of
psychodynamic thinking contributed to experimental psychology.
Psychodynamic Therapy was the first therapy used in attempting to explain mental illness and has had

The Congo And King Leopold
Africa was a very large continent back then and everyone was spread apart. Also, everyone worked for
their selves and didn t have to be told what to do. No one was expecting hardships or forced labor until
the British and many other countries came into play. The British were not happy until they found the
Free State of the Congo. They were led to investigate by a man named Roger Casement.
In the first reading, The Congo and King Leopold, the group of people that lived in the Congo were
known as the Congolese and were later well known in this reading. King Leopold did not feel happy
with just owning Belgium so he went off to the Congo. Meanwhile, Casement s report caused debates
and in the reading it states, Millions of Africans were being killed or dismembered while harvesting
rubber from the forest of Central Africa . . . for cheap rubber and to satisfy King Leopold s quest for
wealth. The causes and effects were seriously deadly because Leopold enslaved Africans that he
owned when he took over Africa. Having said that, once the Industrial Revolution gained more
momentum Europeans wanted to find land and build their new and safer lives in Africa. The author
states .. people there realized that if they wanted to surpass neighboring countries economically, they
would need access to more raw materials to fuel their factories and more people to purchase the
products those factories made. Europeans that didn t want to stay came over to Africa and took their
land. They

Holden s Depression and Self-Doubt in Salinger s Catcher...
As Eugene McNamara stated in his essay Holden Caulfield as Novelist , Holden, of J.D. Salinger s
novel Catcher in the Rye, had met with long strand of betrayals since he left Pencey Prep. These
disappointments led him through the adult world with increasing feelings of depression and self doubt,
leading, finally to his mental breakdown. Holden s first betrayal was that of his memory and
innocence by an egotistical peer. At Pencey Prep, he roomed with a student named Stradlater; the
epitome of a teenage jock. Stradlater was openly very vain; as Holden stated as he watched Stradlater
gaze at himself in the mirror, he was madly in love with himself. He thought he was the handsomest
guy in the Western Hemisphere (27). Because of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now here was Stradlater who could not even remember her proper name! It was a great show of
disrespect for Holden s memory of this bubbly, kind girl; it was a betrayal of his innocent heart and
childhood memories. Holden s disappointingly cold experience with sex and prostitution after he
leaves Stradlater and Pencey Prep is a betrayal of his childish dreams of greatness and celebrity. As he
enters the elevator of a New York City hotel, the elevator boy asks him if he wants a good time.
Holden agrees, as he is starting to feel pretty sexy and all (92), being his first official chance to live up
to his dreams of sexiness and manliness. His mind even starts to wander to his grand fantasy of
Caulfield and His Magic Violin (93) in which he is the most adored man in all the world. He never,
however, lives up to any of these egotistical illusions. His disappointment comes knocking at the door
in the form of a young girl named Sunny. The minute she undresses, Holden feels odd and
uncomfortable. He know[s] that you re supposed to feel pretty sexy when somebody gets up and pulls
their dress over their head (95), but he just felt embarrassed for her. His ego and dreams come
crashing down, as his night is not of good times and achievement, but of a too young girl who is as
nervous as he. It was quite depressing for him to realize that the adult world was made up not of the
movie like dreams he had entertained for so long, but of timid, depressing reality.

Technology’s Detrimental Effect on Society Essay

Technology is made because the society always wants to find more efficient methods of doing certain

He also recognizes that character traits within a person can influence behavior, but does not believe
traits alone can explain behavior and learning. Instead, Bandura expanded upon these theories and
developed the concept of reciprocal determinism, which posits that the person, their environment, and
behavior all influence one another. Bandura argued that personal factors affect behavior, which alters
the environment, and that environment is not only a cause of behavior, but also an effect of behavior,
and these all operate as interlocking determinants of each other (Bandura, 1978, p. 346). Therefore, if
we are going to attempt to understand human behavior, all of these factors and their mutual influences
must be recognized. (Cloninger, 2007, p.353). Self Regulation. Bandura s theory is essentially an
agentic perspective, which views people as self organizing, proactive, and self regulating, as opposed
to being reactive organisms shaped solely by environmental forces. His theory posits that human
beings have a considerable amount of control over their own behavior, though they may exhibit
variations on how effectively they exert it. Bandura believed that individuals can be, essentially, self
directed, at least to the extent that they are able to make goals and then track and evaluate their own
progress.

Essay On First Amendment Rights
First Amendment rights are like an antique; they have been around for a while, and people will
treasure them for years to come. Americans have valued First Amendment rights since the constitution
was written, and still do to this day. As well as valuing them, Americans are also willing to fight for
their rights; whether it is by going to court, picketing, or protesting. As a result of this willingness to
fight, we have seen many court cases and protests about First Amendment rights, and will likely
continue to see these for a long time.

Many recent court cases have emerged involving people fighting for these rights, including some
controversial ones. For example, the ruling of the Snyder v. Phelps case has been debated over by
many, and most agree with the dissenting opinion of the court. Snyder v. Phelps questioned whether
members of the Westboro Baptist Church were allowed to hold up rude and offensive signs near a
fallen soldier s funeral. The court ruled that while it was offensive, the Westboro Baptist Church were
allowed to picket the funeral because it was a subject of general interest and of value and concern to
the public (casebriefsummary.org). The family of the soldier was upset with this ruling, because they
felt it was unfair. However, the First Amendment protects acts that may be considered offensive.
Similarly, there was another recent case that had to do with picketing and protesting. This case was
called Matter of Waller v New York, which involved the protesters of the Occupy Wall Street
Movement. However, this case, like the Hazelwood case, is an example of First Amendment rights
being limited. The court ruled that the protesters were not protected under the First Amendment in this
case, because they could be compromising the health and safety of those in Zuccotti Park. Another
recent mention of First Amendment rights came from President Barack

Honest In Shakespeare s Othello
Honest in love is one of the most important themes in Othello. Othello s love to Desdemona has a lot
of challenges that he has to defeat to be with her Othello finds love in his marriage but needs more
time to build trust, but his opponent works too fast for him to take that time. The immediate attraction
between the couple works on passion and Desdemona builds on that passion as she feels for Othello.
Although iago jealousy he was capable of manipulating, brain washing, and untruthfully all others
characters to satisfy his need for revenge against Othello.
From the very beginning of the story Iago manipulates Roderigo by saying that Desdemona likes him
and Desdemona may run away from Othello and go with him. He makes Barbantio angry by telling
him about their elopement then lying about the consummation of their relationship that Othello and
Desdemona have. He then leaves Roderigo to take responsibility for his Iago s actions. For the time
being, he goes off to advice Othello that Roderigo is accountable for telling Barbantio about the
relationship and saying awful things about Othello. Iago once ... Show more content on

Cassio still comes to Iago for advice after Iagos betray and gets him fired. He still credits him enough
to ask for advice on how to get his job back, the very job that Iago is accountable for causing him to

well (paragraphs 2.3, line 320). Iago is very convincing he even manages to brainwash his wife into
dishonesty. He puts in Emily s participation into his plan to make Othello suspicious of Cassio and
Desdemona s relationship. He also continues to convince Emily to steal the handkerchief Othello gave
to Desdemona. When Desdemona dropped the handkerchief, Emily gave it to

Olmec Culture Research Paper
The Olmec culture is one of the oldest cultures in Mesoamerica. The Olmecs were known as one of
the oldest cultures, as well as, the mother culture of mesoamerican cultures and were estimated to be
around from 1000 to 500 BC. The name Olmec comes from the Mexica cultures that came after. It was
not the name that the people of this culture named themselves, the name they called themselves has
been lost through history. The Olmec culture was the culture that produced rubber, and had great
workmanship in which they were able to create jade masks, celts, ornaments and tools using different
materials such as gold. This culture was able to develop and stay alive througout the ages for so long
due to the fertility of their land which came from their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Olmec mask is not the size of a present day human face, but rather much smaller, and could be
compared to the size of the palm of an adults hand. The color is a deep green with a tint of grey, which
has come from the aging of the stone. While there is evidence of cremation in the mesoamerican
cultures, the color of this mask proves that the mask was not on the body during the cremation
process, but rather after the ashes were put into the body bundle. In order to create these masks, the
olmecs would carve the faces into the rock that would be used as the mask. To create the mouth, eyes
and other deep incised areas, they used a technique in which they would attach a string to two pieces
of wood and move in a saw like motion in order to heat and shape the stone. There is no negative
space evident in the masks such as no holes for the eyes, nose, or mouth, only in the earlobes for
attachment to the corpse bundle. When analyzing the iconography of the Olmec mask, the viewer
must question the symbolic meaning and the use of conventionalized imagery. Although the symbolic
meaning was not explicitly stated in any of the ancient codecies or texts, it is assumed that the mask
was a way to give the deciesed a face for what could be the afterlife, or simply to identify the bundle.
On the other hand, the repeated use of certain aspects in the mask such as the closed, squinting

The Invention Of The Ipod Essay
Assessment 1 Part 1
1. Invention is the process of creating something new meaning or for the first time. When applied to
any organisation, it can either be designing a new product, a new service or even a new process.
Innovation is the process of creating new value using advance knowledge produced as a result of
invention.
An example in differentiating between Invention and Innovation is given below.
Back in the year 2001, the first iPod was released; it was not actually an inventive product. In fact
MP3 players /Walkman were already been around for a few years. The first MP3 Players /Walkman
were put on the market in the year 1998. Nevertheless the iPod was the first to be really an innovation.
It was the very first to allow a thriving transition of new ideas into tangible societal impact . The
combination of elements such as its visual design, its ease of use and the most significant was the
iTunes software that allowed the user to manage and purchase music online.
With the example mentioned above, MP3 Players/Walkman was the invention and iPod was the
innovation.
In comparison to invention and innovation, I would consider Innovation to be more important than
invention. To serve new markets, innovation creates new products and services which enable an
organisation to expand its range of beneficiaries or market base. On the other hand, it may lead to
product and service enhancement, such as improved quality or service flexibility. An example that can
illustrate this is

Carbon-14 Dating
The key principle behind radiocarbon 14 dating is plants and animals exchange carbon with their
surroundings and thus contain the same ratio of carbon 12 to carbon 14 once an organism dies it no
longer exchanges carbon with its surroundings. The carbon 14 will slowly decay at a known rate
decreasing the ratio of carbon 12 to carbon 14. Since the decay rate and original ratio of carbon 12 to
carbon 14 is known we can determine how old a sample is by the amount of carbon 14 remaining.
There are two ways to measure the carbon 12 to carbon 14 ratio. The first being beta counting. Beta
counting was the first method used to measure carbon 14 levels in a sample. Two different type of beta
counting were primarily used. The first of those being liquid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Snap Map Analysis
Introduction Snapchat defines Snap Map as a feature where you and your friends can share your
locations with one another, and take a peek into the lives of others around you. While this feature is
extremely convenient to let all of your friends know of your whereabouts, what if it isn t just your
friends who have access to your exact location? What about medical devices such as pacemakers that
can indirectly provide medical examiners the intensity of activities you were performing at a specific
time? Can this information ever be forcibly used against you? In the case of pacemakers, it was for
one patient, Ross Compton, who was accused of arson because of statistical evidence on his
pacemaker that contradicted his testimony (Wootson). With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, in Fitbits, users are easily able to access their health data, such as number of steps taken,
number of calories burned, etc. In comparison, for pacemakers, patients are often not allowed to
access their data at all, thereby restricting access of personal data to just medical professionals and
data collectors. When considering that the user in question cannot access their own private data,
regulations are imperative in preventing such data from reaching the wrong hands. In this field,
medical devices use encryption to deter hackers or other unwanted visitors from accessing sensitive
data (Eramo), but as seen from Mark Gasson, it is not guaranteed to work. By infecting an RFID chip
in his hand with a virus, Gasson determined that the virus located in his hand was able to infect
external systems (Cellan Jones). Although medical devices proclaim to be secure, the risk of a virus
from another piece of technology infecting these devices is high, with extremely serious
consequences. It is imperative to continue pressing for answers regarding the secureness of medical
devices and push for more knowledge regarding third party servers that may use medical data for
reasons other than

Lao Tzu Thoughts From The Tao-Te Ching Summary
A Non Government Mariah Parvizi 7/16/2015 In Thoughts from the Tao te Ching, Lao Tzu illustrates
the optimal way in which a ruler should lead their country in conformity with the Tao. Lao Tzu points
out that a nation s government should put in place the slightest governance in the lives of its people,
because the good in people will come naturally when the people disregard their efforts to seek these
ethics. Finally, Lao Tzu also encourages that a leader be modest and tolerant by truly taking interest in
the civilians needs and concentrating on his home land instead of seeking issues with other worldly
places. If applied, Lao Tzu s image of a government that does not overuse it s power is only
reasonable to an degree. He refer to the labelling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea has been referred to as the wishful thinking fallacy. In addition to being a mental favoritism
and a poor method to making decisions, wishful thinking is commonly held to be paradox in an
argument when it is expected that because someone wishes something to be true or false, it is actually
true or false. People cannot be this compliant in their journey through life, people crave desires for
motivation to actively reach for goals. Two kinds of motivation defined in psychology are extrinsic
and intrinsic reinforcers. Extrinsic provides external rewards through other people or objects, while
intrinsic rewards are intangible and commonly contribute a feeling of achievement in simply finishing
the act. Lao Tzu primarily brings attention to losing extrinsic wants, such as power, possessions and
other s endorsement. Nonetheless, Loa Tzu also partially encourages disregarding intrinsic desires for
self enhancement, for example in this statement: when the body s intelligence declines, cleverness and
knowledge step forth . Here he conveys that when people abandon their want to become more
intelligent and stop striving to understand and learn, consequently they will naturally become smarter.
Deserting all these wants and personal pursuits to improve at the same time of

In fact gender is so basic to our identity, most people mistakenly assume that our sense of being male or female is defined with absolute certainty by our anatomical sex. Contrary to popular belief, our sense of gender and anatomical sex are two distinct elements; each developing at different times in different parts of the body. While my research is limited to hormone replacement therapy involved in masculinizing a biological female, it should be noted that the psychiatric, psychological, and medical factors that contribute to cases of gender dysforia are major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overview of Hormone Replacement Therapy for the FTM Transexual Fundamental to sex reassignment treatment of transsexuals is the acquisition of the sex characteristics of the other sex to the fullest extent possible. With the exception of the internal and external genitalia, sex characteristics are contingent of the biological effects of the respective sex steroids. Hormonal reassignment has therefore two aims: 1) to eliminate, in so far as possible, the hormonally induced secondary sex characteristics of the natal sex and 2) to induce those of the new sex. Biologic females treated with testosterone experience the following permanent changes: a deepening of the voice, clitoral enlargement, mild breast atrophy, increased facial and body hair and male pattern baldness. Reversible changes include increased upper body strength, weight gain, increased social and sexual interest and arousability, and decreased hip mass. Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT) Hormones are long range chemical messengers of the body, manufactured and controlled by the endocrine system. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). This signals the anterior pituitary gland to synthesize and release luteinizing hormone (LH). To a lesser degree, GnRH also triggers the synthesis and release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Subsequently, LH and FSH signal the gonads (ovaries in females, testes in males) to synthesize and release hormones that cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a part of the Alkali metals, meaning it is in the first group on the periodic table. Lithium is normally not found in nature, due to the fact that it has a very unstable nucleus. The name Lithium is derived from the Greek word lithos, which means stone . This name was likely given to Lithium due to the fact that it was discovered in the mineral petalite (LiAl(Si2O5)2) by Johann August Arfvedson in 1817. It was later isolated through the form of electrolysis of lithium oxide by William Thomas Brande. He rejects the myth that Africans committed suicide by hanging or drowning themselves, but argues instead that they flew back to their homeland with a religious object (known as a prenda) tied to their waist. Slaves loved music, particularly the use of the drum. Montejo laments that the white man s music had no drum at all. Tasteless (Barnet 1994, p. 33). • 10. The Rational Choice Theory Of Cesare Beccaria The topic I have chosen to write this research paper over is the rational choice theory. The rational choice theory started with the work of Cesare Beccaria in the late eighteenth century. From that point forward, the theory has been developed and opened up to incorporate different viewpoints, like discouragement and routine activity theory. The rational choice theory is a monetary rule that expresses that people dependably settle on reasonable and legitimate choices. These choices furnish individuals with the best advantage or fulfillment, given the decisions accessible and are likewise in their most elevated self interest. Rational choice theory accepts that all individuals attempt to effectively expand their preference in any circumstance and in this way reliably attempt to minimize their misfortunes. The hypothesis depends on the possibility that all people construct their choices in light of sound figuring s, act with discernment when picking, and intend to increment either delight or benefit. Rational choice theory likewise stipulates that all unpredictable social wonders are driven by individual human activities. Accordingly, if a business analyst needs to clarify social change or the activities of social organizations, he needs to take a look at the balanced choices of the people that make up the entirety. The rational choice theory permits inclinations to be spoken to as genuine esteemed utility capacities. Monetary basic leadership then turns into an issue of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This law excludes animals such as birds, mice, and rats that are bred primarily for research purposes. The Animal Welfare Act regulates the housing and transportation of animals, but no rule or regulation exists that restricts the actual research or experimentation of these animals. The last full novel we read, Frankenstein, or, The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley, touches on human aggression much more directly than Candide or The Overcoat. Frankenstein, or, The Modern Prometheus starts with a create but ends with a monster. The creature suffers an extraordinary amount in an amazingly short timespan. It is essentially the not funny version of Candide. Initially, I felt extreme pity for the creature. His only family left him (i.e., Victor Frankenstein) and he had little knowledge of his world. Even after murdering, I still pitied the creature. Victor, in my opinion, was the real killer and was guilty of negligence that lead to someone dying. Shelley s novel prompted the most logical arguments out of the books we read. Is the creature guilty? And as I have already said, I did not think he was. But as the novel unfolded, I found myself feeling extremely sorry for the monster while simultaneously slowly realizing his guilt in the situation, which makes him a monster. When Victor meets his creation on the mountain is when my opinion started to shift, but when the monster plans revenge on Victor and executes his wife. No amount of ignorance and lack of self control excuses a being from first degree murder, which is willful, deliberate, and premeditated. Neil Gaiman s stories How To Talk to Girls at parties , Cinnamon , and Stardust all share one thing in common that a feminist critique would point out: the poor portrayal of woman. The Problem Of Ineffective Leadership CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM Ineffective Leadership: Leaders who participate in dishonest practices regularly make an environment of recompense inside of the association that is helpful for deviant worker conduct that parallels that of the pioneer (Trevino and Brown, 2005). Abuse by leaders has been alluded to in a few ways, including interpersonal shamefulness, oppressive supervision social undermining, oppression, and tormenting (Hoel Cooper, 2001). • 28. Summary Of The Journey By Primo Levi Primo Levi was a Jewish writer and Holocaust survivor from the concentration Auschwitz. Primo Levi talks about in his book called Survival in Auschwitz about what it means to survive. There are many quotes that stand out in his book and have strong importance to them. The first quote that stands out in Primo Levi s book is in chapter one, The Journey . In this chapter, Primo Levi is describing his arrival. An important quote from this chapter is when Primo Levi says They walked in squads, in rows of three, with an odd, embarrassed step, head dangling in front, arms rigid. On their heads they wore comic berets and were all dressed in long striped overcoats, which even by night and from a distance looked filthy and in rags. They walked in a large circle around us, never drawing near, and in silence began to busy themselves with our luggage and to climb in and out of the empty wagons (Levi 20). Primo Levi is describing his arrival at Auschwitz. The importance of this quote is of the picture Primo Levi puts in the reader s mind. Primo Levi does a great job describing in emotional detail of what his arrival was like. In the next paragraph, Primo Levi says We looked at each other without a word. It was all incomprehensible and mad. But one thing we had understood. This was the metamorphosis that awaited us. Tomorrow we would be like them (Levi 21). This quote stands out because it shows the realization Primo Levi had while watching the poor, lifeless Auschwitz prisoners work. By watching the prisoners, Primo Levi had fully acknowledged that this is the life that awaits him the next day. This is important for Primo Levi because by understanding what the future holds for him in Auschwitz, he can better prepare himself for survival in Auschwitz. Primo Levi has a couple quotes in chapter two, On the Bottom, that stand out and have significant importance to them. In Chapter two, Primo Levi talks about the numbers being tattooed on his arm and what it means to him. Primo Levi says I have learnt that I am Haftling. My number is 174517; we have been baptized, we will carry the tattoo on our left arm until we die (Levi 27). This quote had many importances to it. First, Levi says how they have just been ... Essay about Evaluating the Main Theories of Counseling This essay will attempt to highlight and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the three main theories of counselling within the module covered this term. The three approaches in discussion are psychodynamics, cognitive behavioural and humanistic. The psychodynamic theory originated from Sigmund Freud, a medical doctor and philosopher (1856 1939) founded in the 1900s. Freud developed his ideas whilst working as a psychiatrist in Vienna, collecting information from his patients such as feelings, thoughts and early childhood experiences. The psychodynamic theory focuses on the unconscious mind. Freud s credence is that different mental forces operate in the mind. The unconscious mind can be described as being like an iceberg. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Id is the unconscious state of mind; it is responsible for our voluptuous and immediate satisfaction. It is our basic drives such as life instincts (Eros) and death instincts (Thantos); it is also responsible for our libido (sexual instinct). The Ego is the conscious state, the rational mind which organises our thoughts and makes sense of them. This develops during the first two years of life. The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right and wrong. Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other. It involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to behave leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue. The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to reduce anxiety and stress. Some defence mechanisms include; repression, displacement, projection, denial and intellectualisation. Techniques used by Psychodynamic therapists consist of; dream therapy (making sense of dreams and interpretation into reasons behind them), hypnosis and free association. As he enters the elevator of a New York City hotel, the elevator boy asks him if he wants a good time. The minute she undresses, Holden feels odd and uncomfortable. He know[s] that you re supposed to feel pretty sexy when somebody gets up and pulls their dress over their head (95), but he just felt embarrassed for her. Instead, Bandura expanded upon these theories and developed the concept of reciprocal determinism, which posits that the person, their environment, and behavior all influence one another. Bandura argued that personal factors affect behavior, which alters the environment, and that environment is not only a cause of behavior, but also an effect of behavior, and these all operate as interlocking determinants of each other (Bandura, 1978, p. 346). Therefore, if we are going to attempt to understand human behavior, all of these factors and their mutual influences must be recognized. (Cloninger, 2007, p.353). Self Regulation. Bandura s theory is essentially an agentic perspective, which views people as self organizing, proactive, and self regulating, as opposed to being reactive organisms shaped solely by environmental forces. His theory posits that human beings have a considerable amount of control over their own behavior, though they may exhibit variations on how effectively they exert it. The Olmec mask is not the size of a present day human face, but rather much smaller, and could be compared to the size of the palm of an adults hand. The color is a deep green with a tint of grey, which has come from the aging of the stone. While there is evidence of cremation in the mesoamerican cultures, the color of this mask proves that the mask was not on the body during the cremation process, but rather after the ashes were put into the body bundle. In order to create these masks, the olmecs would carve the faces into the rock that would be used as the mask. To create the mouth, eyes and other deep incised areas, they used a technique in which they would attach a string to two pieces of wood and move in a saw like motion in order to heat and shape the stone. There is no negative space evident in the masks such as no holes for the eyes, nose, or mouth, only in the earlobes for attachment to the corpse bundle. When analyzing the iconography of the Olmec mask, the viewer must question the symbolic meaning and the use of conventionalized imagery. Although the symbolic meaning was not explicitly stated in any of the ancient codecies or texts, it is assumed that the mask was a way to give the deciesed a face for what could be the afterlife, or simply to identify the bundle. • 44. The Invention Of The Ipod Essay Assessment 1 Part 1 1. Invention is the process of creating something new meaning or for the first time. When applied to any organisation, it can either be designing a new product, a new service or even a new process. Innovation is the process of creating new value using advance knowledge produced as a result of invention. An example in differentiating between Invention and Innovation is given below. Back in the year 2001, the first iPod was released; it was not actually an inventive product. In fact MP3 players /Walkman were already been around for a few years. The first MP3 Players /Walkman were put on the market in the year 1998. Nevertheless the iPod was the first to be really an innovation. It was the very first to allow a thriving transition of new ideas into tangible societal impact . The combination of elements such as its visual design, its ease of use and the most significant was the iTunes software that allowed the user to manage and purchase music online. With the example mentioned above, MP3 Players/Walkman was the invention and iPod was the innovation. In comparison to invention and innovation, I would consider Innovation to be more important than invention. To serve new markets, innovation creates new products and services which enable an organisation to expand its range of beneficiaries or market base. On the other hand, it may lead to product and service enhancement, such as improved quality or service flexibility. An example that can illustrate this is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carbon-14 Dating The key principle behind radiocarbon 14 dating is plants and animals exchange carbon with their surroundings and thus contain the same ratio of carbon 12 to carbon 14 once an organism dies it no longer exchanges carbon with its surroundings. The carbon 14 will slowly decay at a known rate decreasing the ratio of carbon 12 to carbon 14. Since the decay rate and original ratio of carbon 12 to carbon 14 is known we can determine how old a sample is by the amount of carbon 14 remaining. There are two ways to measure the carbon 12 to carbon 14 ratio. The first being beta counting. Beta counting was the first method used to measure carbon 14 levels in a sample. Two different type of beta counting were primarily used. The first of those being liquid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Snap Map Analysis Introduction Snapchat defines Snap Map as a feature where you and your friends can share your locations with one another, and take a peek into the lives of others around you. While this feature is extremely convenient to let all of your friends know of your whereabouts, what if it isn t just your friends who have access to your exact location? What about medical devices such as pacemakers that can indirectly provide medical examiners the intensity of activities you were performing at a specific time? Can this information ever be forcibly used against you? In the case of pacemakers, it was for one patient, Ross Compton, who was accused of arson because of statistical evidence on his pacemaker that contradicted his testimony (Wootson). With ... For example, in Fitbits, users are easily able to access their health data, such as number of steps taken, number of calories burned, etc. In comparison, for pacemakers, patients are often not allowed to access their data at all, thereby restricting access of personal data to just medical professionals and data collectors. When considering that the user in question cannot access their own private data, regulations are imperative in preventing such data from reaching the wrong hands. In this field, medical devices use encryption to deter hackers or other unwanted visitors from accessing sensitive data (Eramo), but as seen from Mark Gasson, it is not guaranteed to work. By infecting an RFID chip in his hand with a virus, Gasson determined that the virus located in his hand was able to infect external systems (Cellan Jones). Although medical devices proclaim to be secure, the risk of a virus from another piece of technology infecting these devices is high, with extremely serious consequences. It is imperative to continue pressing for answers regarding the secureness of medical devices and push for more knowledge regarding third party servers that may use medical data for reasons other than ... Lao Tzu Thoughts From The Tao-Te Ching Summary A Non Government Mariah Parvizi 7/16/2015 In Thoughts from the Tao te Ching, Lao Tzu illustrates the optimal way in which a ruler should lead their country in conformity with the Tao. Lao Tzu points out that a nation s government should put in place the slightest governance in the lives of its people, because the good in people will come naturally when the people disregard their efforts to seek these ethics. Finally, Lao Tzu also encourages that a leader be modest and tolerant by truly taking interest in the civilians needs and concentrating on his home land instead of seeking issues with other worldly places. If applied, Lao Tzu s image of a government that does not overuse it s power is only reasonable to an degree. He refer to the labelling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea has been referred to as the wishful thinking fallacy. In addition to being a mental favoritism and a poor method to making decisions, wishful thinking is commonly held to be paradox in an argument when it is expected that because someone wishes something to be true or false, it is actually true or false. People cannot be this compliant in their journey through life, people crave desires for motivation to actively reach for goals. Two kinds of motivation defined in psychology are extrinsic and intrinsic reinforcers. Extrinsic provides external rewards through other people or objects, while intrinsic rewards are intangible and commonly contribute a feeling of achievement in simply finishing the act. Lao Tzu primarily brings attention to losing extrinsic wants, such as power, possessions and other s endorsement. Nonetheless, Loa Tzu also partially encourages disregarding intrinsic desires for self enhancement, for example in this statement: when the body s intelligence declines, cleverness and knowledge step forth . Here he conveys that when people abandon their want to become more intelligent and stop striving to understand and learn, consequently they will naturally become smarter. Deserting all these wants and personal pursuits to improve at the same time of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
