Cross Sectional Study Of STEC Shedding In Cow Herds
Venegas Vargas et al. (2016) conducted a cross sectional study of STEC shedding in dairy and beef
cattle herds in Michigan. STEC was found to be more prevalent in beef cattle (21%) versus dairy
cattle (13%). Factors significantly associated with STEC shedding in dairy cattle included when
maximum average temperatures exceeded 28.9C 1 5 days prior to sampling; animals in their first
lactation; and animals less than 30 days in lactation. The authors suggested that possible control
strategies could be considered for animals in their first lactation and/or within the first 30 days of
lactation. Daily cleaning of cattle feeders reduced risk of STEC shedding compared with feeders
cleaned less frequently. There is a poor understanding of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

coli classes was highly skewed toward NLNS (non LEE non STEC E. coli; negative for all 4 tested E.
coli virulence factors), in 85 95% of milk samples. The authors did not find a correlation between
seasonal effects and presence of virulence factors. Lambertini (Lambertini, Karns et al. 2015) noted
the challenges associated with direct cultural identification of pathogenic E. coli due to the wide
diversity of E. coli subtypes in manure and feces. Aside from O157:H7, isolating STEC strains is
confounded by lack of metabolic differences that can be utilized for their discrimination. The isolation
of O157:H7 from manure and fecal samples requires labor intensive extraction with immunomagnetic
beads and use of expensive chromogenic agars. By using qPCR to detect four virulence factor genes
associated with enteropathogenic E. coli, the authors were able to conduct direct semi quantitative
comparison of the relative abundance of virulence factors within the E. coli community associated
with the analyzed sample. The authors cautioned that this cannot predict with certainty the presence of
a specific pathogenic serotype but implies its possible presence. Virulence factor patterns consistent
with E. coli O157:H7 were not detected in any milk samples, and only 0 2% of milk filter samples,
confirming that even when STEC and EHEC are present in cow feces, appropriate sanitary practices
effectively lower the risk of milk contamination. This study indicated that well water

Cryptanalysis In World War II
Thesis: The application of Cryptanalysis in World War II was imperative to both Allied intelligence
efforts and success of Allied Powers during the Battle of the Atlantic.
Citation: Rielage, Dale C. 2002. Indirectly in Operational Signals . Naval History16, no. 6: 31. History
Reference Center, EBSCOhost (accessed November 16, 2016).
Annotation: Rielage argues that due to Ultra intelligence finally being used to allow for an offensive
front in the Atlantic in regards to U boats, much success was had. He backs up this statement citing
Admiral Karl Donitz, who stated that the U boat losses which were thirteen percent before the use of
Ultra for an offensive front in the Atlantic quickly rose to thirty to fifty percent. He also acknowledges

Deutsch reveals that both sides suffered failures and had successes and each had to face difficulties
with cryptanalysis. He explains that the German navy s Heimisch or Hydra, codenamed Dolphin by
Bletchley Park, broken from 1942 onwards, and Triton, codenamed Shark, broken periodically and
sometimes for protracted periods of time, were both harder to crack in comparison to the Enigma
cipher, and therefore were only as useful as the frequency to which they were broken. I will use this
source to further correlate cryptanalysis during the Battle of the Atlantic and the success the allies
encountered due to this. This source gives a great explanation as to what the capture of German code

Examples Of Government Intervention
In today s world, government intervention still divides the nation. We mainly witness this division
during politics, with democrats and republicans. Government intervention increased immensely after
the Great Depression. This is because of the fact that before the Great Depression, investors were
freely using their money buying and spending, without any regulations, leading to the stock market
crash. During the recession process, in order to land the economy back to a stable path, presidents and
other officials intervened to speed the process up. While some people believe that government
intervention should not be allowed, others believe that government intervention is beneficial to the
nation because it is able to put regulations among those who affect the economy. Government
interventions have allowed many helpful programs for Americans such as welfare, trade programs,
and tariff limitations. It also has placed a fairness on the economy, allowing an equivalence of prices
for the products that we buy and use on a daily basis. Some different types of government intervention
include subsidies, tax breaks, and inflation. During 1990 2002, government intervention became a
giant part of the marketplace in the United States. An example of this is during Bill Clinton s short
term presidency. Clinton enacted plans that helped increase the economy s growth. Another example
of this is during George W. Bush Jr s presidency term. His main goal of helping the economy as well

Bilbo Baggins Quotes
Bilbo Baggins Is A Hero A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and
endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. This quote by Christopher Reeves is a great description of
Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo is just an ordinary hobbit. There is not anything exciting about his life. He lives
in a quiet house, in a quiet town, with quiet people. Bilbo is a plain and simple individual. Throughout
the book, however, Bilbo is faced with difficulties that he never dreamed would confront him. Instead
of cowering away, Bilbo shows that he has the strength to prevail against his greatest enemies. This
strength that Bilbo finds, along with other traits, are why I believe the he is a hero. These are a few of
the characteristics that define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was loyal to the dwarves throughout their journey. Bilbo did not leave them, even when he had the
opportunities and the rights to go back home. For instance, after he escaped the goblin s cave, the
dwarves did not know where he went. Bilbo could have easily slipped away, but instead, he searched
for them. He could have traveled home, Bilbo missed his home very much, but he thought about how
the dwarves have been trying to return home for many, many years. Bilbo thought about his friends
feelings, not just his own. He was willing to help them even when it meant danger for himself. Bilbo
shows courage in the face of danger. He did not turn back when he faced the trolls, spiders, goblins, or
even Smaug. Bilbo had never encountered any dangerous monsters before this adventure. Still, he
defied them all, and many times alone. He had to rely only on himself. Luckily, Bilbo was also very
clever. He was able to have Gollum show him the way out of the Goblin cave while avoiding him
instantaneously. Also, when the dwarves were imprisoned by the wood elves, Bilbo created a plan that
lead to their escape. If it were not for his masterful ideas, then the dwarves may have rotted in prison.
In the Misty Mountains, he was able to talk to Smaug and still live to tell the tale. Though, Bilbo did
not start off as a hero. It was throughout his adventure that he became

Sexist vs Misanthrope
Executive Summary The following journal will express how ethics theories take place into people
personalities and thoughts. It focuses in a social dilemma about a misanthrope and a sexiest living
their normal lives, and how they are influenced by their judgments in the decision making process.
First of all, Harold, as a misanthrope person dislike people in general, no mattering gender, age, race,
social preferences, etc. He does not treat people differently, therefore he does not discriminate. In a
business environment, he would hire any person for a specific vacancy if the candidate meets the
needed qualifications. Also, Harold recognizes his misanthropy problem and he is constant with his
thoughts. On the other hand, Lou Bishop is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is the one who subtracts less amount of happiness from the world. He gives everyone the same
opportunity in the professional environment; in contrast with Lou who would not do so, because of his
belief that women are inferior than men, and should not be involved with business at all and stay at

Lowering Eligibility Requirements For Students Athletes
Lowering eligibility requirements can be defined as what can be done to maintain eligibility and not
necessarily just maintaining the required GPA. The whole purpose is to take into account the quality of
education the student athletes are receiving. The greatest concern when discussing eligibility
requirements is based on all the topics of changing grades, encouraging the enrollment of easy classes,
and even the admission process. An article was written about keeping the colleges accountable in
terms of making sure the student athletes are getting the best education they can. The chronicle
received a statement from a Big Ten academic advisor stating, you jump, online, finish in a week and
a half, get your grade posted, and you re bowl eligible (Carey, 27). The same article stated that these
online (Carey). The importance of that statement is to bring emphasis that in order to maintain
eligibility you just have to have a certain number of hours and GPA. There are no requirements of the
quality of those hours and grades. How in the world are those student athletes going to benefit from
that circumstance in the long run. The article states that the problem persists because of the term credit
hour , defined as a unit of academic time that does little to measure student learning (Carey). The
article showed significance in emphasizing how student athletes take easy courses just to maintain
certain hours and GPA regardless of the quality of class or education. What is

Gender, Masculinity, And The Hegemonic View Of Masculinity
Intro
Masc for masc (masculine looking for masculine) and straight acting (not being seen as a stereotype
and being able to be excepted by heterosexual men) are terms used by Gay men to classify the type of
man they are looking for in a partner; actively rejecting and devaluing femininity and upholding the
hegemonic view of masculinity. Therefor I am researching the how do gay and straight Latinos
construct their masculinity? Straight men deem anything feminine as less than, thus gay men are
ousted. This ousting of gay men is a byproduct of heterosexism in which a men only date women and
vice versa, thus gay men are seen as effeminate for the sole reason of dating other men. In an attempt
to reclaim their lost masculinity gay men are rejecting effeminate men in an attempt to be seen as one
of the good gays . The traits of reclaiming what gay Latinos feel is lost is strongly tied to femiphobia,
internalized homophobia, and toxic masculinity. Gay men want to be seen as normal and just one of
the guys at the cost of their fellow gay men s humanity and manhood. They want to be seen as the
good gay which I define as a gay man that wants to be removed from the stereotype and behaves and
present as straight I want to investigate how gay Latinos specifically construct their masculinity and if
they are contracting it based on their straight counterparts. It is important to distinguish how important
masculinity is to Latin men specifically gay Latinos and see if a

Stereotypes In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
In the non fiction novel In Cold Blood, Truman Capote mediates the story of the murders of the
Clutter family using the third person narrative. Through his lens, which contains his own prejudices
and sympathies towards the characters, the readers are guided to see things from certain perspectives.
His focused language and complex characterisation consequently have a significant influence on the
reader s opinion of the characters as the story progresses, particularly the two murderers: Perry Smith
and Dick Hickock. Despite them both being criminals, Capote was able to meet them in person for
interviews, conducted without the use of notes or tape recording, allowing him to form bonds and his
own opinions of them.
Capote s connection and stronger sympathies to Perry are evident in the novel and due to the fact that
they both came from tough backgrounds; were struggling with their sexuality in a society with
widespread gay oppression, and had been treated like outsiders to society. This could be a source of
influence of Capote s kinder depiction of Perry. Dick on the contrary, is described by literary critic

Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Having a new perspective with new ideas can change a person. This is true and can be applied to many
different people and events, including a character in Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart. In the
novel missionaries come to a tribe, Umuofia, and convert some of their people. However, a convert by
the name of Enoch creates tension and unrest between the tribe and the missionaries. If this character
were to be more cosmopolitan, one who is familiar and accepts other cultures and ideas, and followed
ideas presented in Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism his actions would have been vastly
different. When one applies Appiah s cosmopolitan ideas, in Cosmopolitanism to the character of
Enoch in Achebe s Things Fall Apart, the character of Enoch changes to become an individual of more
respect, which in turn would prevent the unrest between the missionaries and the Umuofia people in
Things Fall Apart. Things Fall Apart exhibits many instances in which cosmopolitan ideas such as
diversity in a society, can apply. One of these instances is when people of Umuofia leave the tribe to
become Christians and join the missionaries, particularly Enoch. Enoch lived in Umuofia and
followed their culture, but when the missionaries arrived he was one of the few who quickly followed
the word of Christ. In Cosmopolitanism Appiah claims, If we want to preserve a wide range of human
conditions because it allows free people the best chance to make their own lives, there is no place for

During the 1950s,the European steel market, steel production and import unrelentingly augmented.
This created surplus provisions on the promotion of the Six. Due to this, there was deterioration of the
market together with its selling value. This drop continued as a result of antagonism from inexpensive
introductions from eastern nations. Therefore, the European steel industry was actually positioned at a
drawback for the reason that its cost prices were higher than those of its contestants (Steel Industry

The Time Of The Butterflies And The Happenings Of Women Essay
Women have always been the strong ones of the world. The men are always seeking from women a
little pillow to put their heads down on. They are always longing for the mother who held them as
infants These words by author Coco Chanel perfectly depict the central theme of the film In the Time
of the Butterflies and the happenings of women in the Dominican Republic during the twentieth
century. Throughout the history of the Dominican Republic in the 1900 s women were seen inferior to

Essay about Improving Israel-Palestinian Communication
The Israel Palestinian conflict is a part of the greater Arab Israeli long running conflict in the
Middle East. The main point of this conflict is the existence of the state of Israel and its relations with
Arab states and with the Palestinian population in the area. Since the establishment of Israel, the
Palestinians and the Jews have been fighting over the land for several years. Both believe that they
have greater claim than the other. Even though, these two races share a variety of customs, beliefs and
practices, there are enough differences that make these two clash. Even the similarities between these
two have been the source of conflict for thousands of years.

between these two sides. There was also numerous Israeli Palestinian dialogue events conducted each

creating cultural harmony and mutual understanding between these two reducing prejudice and
hostility. According to Ellias, the reason behind continuous failure of the dialogues between Israeli
Jewish and Palestinian could be the differences in their cultural norms and values and their speech
codes emerged from their history. An Arab speaker who is engaging in his speech code called
musayara is polite, indirect, courteous, and nonconfrontive to the other member of a conversation,
whereas the speech code of Jewish is found sharp contrasting to that of Arabs. The communication
code of Jewish is termed as dugri which means straight talk. Jews who is engaging in his speech code
dugri employ a direct, pragmatic and assertive style. Since, speech codes are culturally distinctive and
the meaning and significance of messages lies on codes, it is very important for those who engaged in
the dialogues to understand and predict each other during any intercultural communication or

Bonnie and Clyde is a kind of a realistic, drama, comedy, tragic, gangster movie, which was produced
by Warner Bros and directed by Arthur Penn. This movie was released in 1967 and it was based on
real life events. Bonnie and Clyde were two criminals who were traveling around central United
States, robbing banks in the hope of becoming rich and famous. Before they began being partners in a
crime, Bonnie was a hot, blonde waitress who worked in a café and did not like her job because boys
who came to the café usually wanted to take advantage of her. On the other hand, Clyde was a young,
handsome, small town thief who was robbing small stores and gas stations for a living. They both

Discussion It is firstly important to note that our gaze dynamics are consistent with random walk
processes. These movements are constant with what could be expected from long tailed Lévy
distributions. Our results showed strong evidence for Lévy flights during both aesthetics rating and
shape tasks. This makes sense, even in the presence of potentially larger inter individual differences.
Since participants would find the tasks engaging, and would elicit more exploration. Interestingly our
free viewing tasks trended towards H values that were less than 0.5. This indicates gaze dynamics that
were sub diffusive or anti persistent, movements. These types of movements are more commonly
found during fixation the need to keep the gaze ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is, as the task at hand changes, so must the way in which our eyes engage with it. This further
supports the previously proposed fixational exploration continuum model suggested by Otero Millan.
We see consistent changes of scale invariance in gaze dynamics in multiples tasks, which is consistent
with the model. However, with the changes in the Hurst component, it would be interesting to explore
whether the gaze dynamics changes due to task also lie on such a spectrum. Even with the differences
in the H values we observed, only the lower ends of both sub diffusive and super diffusive scales were
seen values were only just above or below 0.5. Presumably, ranges of values exist far from this point
which were not seen in this study. It could be that the low levels of content in our fractal images,
whilst giving us control over our images, could illicit only weak exploration from the human visual

complexity, static and dynamic stimuli, and attentional/task demands. The aim of this study was to
further the investigation of eye movements. Which is why images were simplified to black and white
fractal images with tightly controlled spatial complexity. The conditions in this trial, whilst abstract,
allowed us to observe the human visual system as it engages with stimuli. Free viewing and judgement

College And College Education
Today people disagree about whether going to college and getting a college degree is worth all of the
hassle. To some entering the workforce out of high school is better than going to college to get the
education required to do a job. The difference is in how someone was raised and what he or she
believes. This is also shown in what kind of career that someone wants to do and the education
required to do that job. Statistics show that people with an associates degree make one hundred twenty
seven dollars more in median weekly earnings than someone with a high school diploma
(Unemployment). Some argue that going to college is not required to get a good well paying job.
There is truth to this argument in the form of the trades. These include jobs like construction, tile
masons, and plumbers. Jobs such as these provide services for people that they typically can not do on
their own. The contrary is also true. People can get a well paying job by going to college as well.
Some careers from here are a graphic designer, an attorney, or a doctor. These jobs pay well, but the
amount of years required to attain the certification to work in these professions is more than if you
were to go to a trade school and learn a trade. Another discouraging factor is the cost of a college
education compared to a trade school. Trade schools can be several thousands of dollars but come
nowhere close to the price of going to a university or smaller college for several years. Another
drawback is

The Code Of Hammurabi s Law
Humanities brings students a very important understanding that there is a big difference between
understanding history and understanding culture. In history we learn about certain events, wars,
treaties, plagues, etc. With humanities, we can come to understand the culture behind the history, how
people behaved in a certain time period, what they believed in, what they created. This gives us a
deeper understanding into how history was shaped, and the more we learn about other cultures the
more we can respect each other as human beings.
From the beginning of the text, in chapter one I was amazed by the how advanced some were in their
day to day lives. The Hammurabi s law was as advanced as modern culture in many aspects. Women
were largely independent, they could own property and do many things women in America couldn t do
till the 60s. Although men could have more than one wife women still had rights . Within the Code of
Hammurabi were wages, divorce, medical service fees, commerce, and land/property. This concept
drew me into the text quickly. When we imagine an old world we tend to see everyone as
Neanderthals, chapter one begins to make us think otherwise with the Egyptians. Their ability to build
the pyramids alone is enough to boggle some of the greatest minds. Their ability to use such extensive

Building Trust And Credibility Is Important
Introduction
Trust can be defined as believing that someone or somewhat is reliable, nice, honest, effectual, etc. A
department or business cannot be much stable without having trust. Trust can be of many types, like
having trust on the employees, trust on the distributors and trust on the other stakeholders. Building
trust or being credible is a basic accomplishment. This is based on main 4 cores. These are integrity,
intent, capabilities and results. Similarly, for the Federal Police Agency it s a necessity. Federal Police
Agency is thought to not to be trusted. Many people think that Police Agencies are corrupt and
distrustful. That is somehow true. So the federal Police Agency must lead with trust. It is obvious that
it has to follow the 4 cores of credibility. Building trust is however easier said than done (Myers, et.al,
2015). They have to work hard definitely. In this paper ways to build trust and credibility is
mentioned.
1. Integrity:
The first core of being credible is to opt the way of integrity. Integrity is the value of being sincere and
having strong ethical principles; ethical uprightness. It is usually a personal alternative to sustain
oneself to consistent honorable and ethical averages. Subsequently, it s really important obviously. The
Federal Police Agency needs to hold integrity. They have to opt the way which can lead to integrity
and following by the trust building.
Integrity is significant for Police Agents because they are selected, appointed,

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Analysis
The injury I chose to write about in this week s forum is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain. You
will commonly see an ACL sprain in athletes associated with contact sports that require them come to
an abrupt stop and pivot.
The knee joint is a hinge joint that connects the femur to tibia. The anterior muscles of the quadriceps
and the posterior muscles of the hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint (Prentice Bobo Benson,
2014). The ACL consists of long rope like bands that fasten bones together to keep the knee stable.
The ACL is one of four ligaments that stabilize the knee, and it is one of the most injured ligament in
the knee. The medial and collateral ligaments run along the outside of the knee and prevent the knee
from shifting side to side, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are located inside the knee
and prevent the knee from shifting forward and backward (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). All these
muscles and ligaments work together to keep our knee stabilized ... Show more content on

The ACL runs through the narrow femoral notch as it attaches the femur and tibia. The femoral notch
is the space in the knee created by the femoral condyles (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). The femoral
condyles make contact with the tibial plateau of the knee. The narrow femoral notch will decrease
with every step through normal daily activities. When the leg is hyperextended while simultaneously
pivoting space is lost and the ACL gets pinched between bones (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014).
Depending on the amount of space in the narrow femoral notch and how much forced placed on the
ACL will depend on the severity of the injury (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). ACL injuries fall in to
one of three categories. Depending on the grade of the sprain depends on what type of treatment is
needed, and how long it takes the injury to heal. Knee sprains can last up to12 months to

A Raisin In The Sun Mood Analysis
The A Raisin in the Sun scene described between Walter and Travis yields insights into Walter s
nature: Walter desires purely that which is best for his son, which in turn fulfils his primary purpose of
living a successful and proud life vicariously through Travis. Walter initially fills his son with high
hopes when he says, ...Just tell me where you want to go to school and you ll go. Just tell me what you
want to be and you ll be it. (A Rasin in the Sun, Hansbury yada yada yada) That Walter desires his son
too have the best education the world can offer sets his tone and narrative; he wants nothing but the
best for his son. This dialogue immediately succeeds his musings and description of the future, in
which he colors himself a rich man, one who could provide all that his son could ever ... Show more

It is through this sequence that he instills the belief that whatever his son becomes, will be a direct
result of Walter s own actions and forethought. Walter has grandiose ideas for what he can build Travis
up to. He believes, with the intoxicating anticipation of wealth, that he can create a superior life for
Travis, almost independently, with no exterior aid. When Travis relays his desire to become a bus
driver to Walter, Walter quickly responds with, ...Man, that ain t nothing to be...It aint big enough.
Walter cannot bear the idea of allowing his son to even entertain the thought of a career as low as bus
driving, when he feels he can give him so much more in the form of wealth and success. This raises an
interesting question, why would he feel so repulsed by a ten year old wanting to be like him? A simple
explanation: he has a deep, insatiable desire to take pride in his son, and he would consider himself a
failure if son becomes anything less than successful. He feels vicariously whatever success or failure

Surface Chemistry of Silica
In order to gain strong insight into the surface chemistry of silica we have perform a thorough
literature search. Our goal is to identify the pioneer research performed on silica and silica supported
catalyst. Particular interest lies in silica water cobalt and silica alcohol cobalt systems. This study is
both on macro and micro level so that a complete theoretical base can be established. From this
theoretical knowledge, key areas to look upon will be identified and a design of experiments will be
established. The goal is to develop a both efficient and effective product (catalyst) using a novel
methodology developed from past research.

It is also possible that this monolayer will already be present on gel even before it contacts an aqueous
solution. On the other hand, alcohol due to its vertical orientation can lead to random distribution of
vertical stacks on isolated silanol groups. The gaps between these stacks present ideal location of
solute anchorage on silica. In case of esterification (resulting from small amount of water in alcohol)
we believe that small size of ethoxy group will permit solute to find some anchorage points on silica.
Silica Solute Interaction (Aqueous system)
In case of dilute aqueous solution, classical models explain the interaction of solute ions with the silica
surface [ ]. As per Nernest equation work is done to transport ion from infinite distance to a point
close to surface. A diffuse double layer within close proximity to surface keeps ions in motion due to
thermal phonons. A proportion of these ions based on their size then enter stern layer , a compact
immobilized layer near the surface.
Healy, James and Cooper [ ] did some pioneer work on the state of precipitated cobalt ions and their
possible interaction to silica surface. At low pH around 6 or below and low concentration, the active
specie is Co2+ swarming in diffuse double layer. Above 6.5 but well below precipitation the salt
dissolving near the surface if able to form the anchorage to the surface, the interaction may take
following form.
At pH around precipitation

The Importance Of National Honor Society
The first idea I believe National Honor Society should participate in is hosting a Memorial Day
celebration for the families in our community that have lost loved ones due to serving our country. I
think this would be amazing because it would give the people in our community a sense that they are
not alone and introduce them to people that they can lean on. At this event, we could have food/treats
and potentially an open microphone where people would be able to share the story of their loved
one(s). This could then become a yearly event that people look forward to because it would be a
celebration of life. I realize this could turn into a huge event because there are many people that could
possibly attend but we could keep that under control

How Do Volcanoes Affect People
As you read these words, twenty volcanoes are erupting. Twenty of these petite, or mammoth like
beast that unearth magma are going off as you read these words! How are these erupting volcanoes
affecting the people and environment around it? Well to begin, volcanoes have provided us with rich
soils that allow the people of the area to grow crops, also allowing other plants to naturally grow nice
and vigorous. Another stirring question is How do volcanoes affect people?
Going into more detail, volcanoes have provided us with rich soil! When a volcano erupts, in the
process it gargles out rock and ash. This rock and ash the volcano spits out is filled with rich minerals,
but right away these minerals are not useful for plants. Depending on

Film Form
Week 2 Film: The Wizard of Oz
FORM: is the sum of all parts of the film, unified and given shape by patterns such as repetition and
variation, story lines and character traits.
Film is not the product of a random collection of technical devices, but rather, it is a system
THE CONCEPT OF FORM IN A FILM
Artworks involve us by engaging our senses, feelings and mind in a process.
The artwork cues the spectator to perform a specific activity.
 Example: A poem s words may guide us to imagine a scene, to notice a break in rhythm or to expect
a rhyme
Like all artworks, film is not simply a random batch of elements, film has a form.
Film form is the overall system of relations that we can perceive among the elements in the ... Show

I.e. A characters sly expression may prepare us for the later revelation of their villainous side
A tragic event might be undercut by lighthearted music
 Emotional response felt by the spectator
Just as formal Conventions can make us suspend our normal sense of real life experience; form may
lead us to override our everyday emotional responses.
 People who we Despise in life may become spellbinding as characters
 Wizard of Oz: We might find the land of Oz much more appealing than Kansas, but because the
films form leads us to sympathize with Dorothy in her desire to go home, we feel satisfied when she
finally returns home to Kansas.
Expectation spurs emotion
 To have an expectation about what will happen is to incest some emotion in the situation.
Delayed fulfillment of an emotion (suspense), may produce anxiety or sympathy
Gratified expectations may create a feeling of relief
Form and Meaning
When we watch films, we re looking to attribute a deeper significance or meaning to the artwork as a
whole.
As spectators we develop meaning based upon the juxtaposition of images and sounds in the film, and
the way we perceive them is shaped by our own cultural social experiences.

illness. While some chronic illnesses can be cured in a few weeks or months many last a lifetime.
Chronic illnesses typically have a significant impact on clients, like treatments, coping, and dealing
with possible side effects. When the chronic illness progresses to death then the illness would be life
altering. According to webmd.com Multiple Sclerosis or MS is a disease that affects the brain and

What causes MS is unknown; Scientists believe there are several factors that cause MS including
immunologic, environmental, infectious, and genetic. MS is 2 to 3 times more common in women
than men. MS is not inherited but genetics plays an important role in who gets the disease. While most
people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, young children and teenagers may develop this
life altering illness. MS is more common in northern latitudes that are further from the equator and
less common in areas closer to the equator however, known in all parts of the world. MS occurs in
most ethnic groups, including African Americans, Asians, and Hispanics/Latinos, but are more
common in Caucasians of the northern European ancestry ( What is Multiple Sclerosis ). According to
Margret Vickers the Sociologists have been concerned about the inequality of patients that have a
chronic to life altering disease especially at work. A person with a disability is categorized as being
other, different, and outside the norm, faces obstacles of trying to fit in to the working environment.
Furthermore, employees who don t possess the physical, emotional or cognitive attributes that others
present maybe stigmatized or discredited. The workplace remains difficult for people with a life
altering illness to negotiate and be secure furthermore employment has actually decreased worldwide.

real, not just in the game of thrones. They were bigger than our everyday wolves. You can say they
that they were different from our modern day wolves in many aspects, such as that they had a stronger
bite and were more muscular. They no longer exist anymore due to extinction, a lot of there fossils
were found in Canada and California. This is the main reason that we became to know of their
existence. You may be wondering why they went extinct or why you have never heard of them.

Only when this social bond is weakened is crime likely to occur. He contended that this social bond
has four elements; Attachment, commitment, involvement and beliefs (Fuller 2006). In the attachment,
when children respect their parents, appreciate all that they do for them, they are less likely to be
involved in criminal activity. However, when they do not have the proper guidance, lack of concern
for their outside activities, they tend to stray, and seek out those who show concern for them. Often it
becomes a role model, a close friend, someone to which they seek approval from. This becomes their
attachment bond. In gangs, this often leads to the higher authority, a person to which they look up too,
to whom they want to become. The level of commitment involves how far one will go to prove
themselves. One is committed to a gang, to which they consider all members family. People who have
money, property, and good reputations are committed to the social system that allowed them the
opportunities for that success (Fuller 2006). In a gang, being a member of a respected gang, means
that they too will have respect by those outside of the gang, and will often be in fear of your presence.
As in the MS 13, individuals who are quite familiar with this particular gang know that it is a matter of
survival of their own existence to cross a gang member; therefore, the ordinary citizen will be wise to

Most of the kids either ate a lunch they brought from home or they purchased a bag of doritos from
the vendor that was between the 2 cafeteria rooms. Some students didn t eat lunch at all. The students
who ate the school lunch had to wait in a long, slow moving line which deterred many from eating it.
The kids separated into their friend groups which for the most part had moderate diversity with the
exception of one or two groups who remained predominantly their own respective race. One thing that
remained consistent between all of the lunches is that the cafeteria was always filled with students.
For this research, I asked one of my friends, Hannah, who still a student there to skype me in so I
could observe. We started to skype at the end of her class and I watched as her and other students
herded into the lunch building. She described what she witnessed as I paid close attention to the

to claim their spot in the cafeteria or hallway. Once all the spots are claimed in the cafeteria and on the

A Study On Cooperation And Cultural Priming Tested
I. Summary of Study The Rosanna Wong and Ying Hong study on cooperation and cultural priming
tested whether recognized symbols of American and Chinese culture could influence frame switching

contexts or are both cultural behaviors simultaneously used across all situations regardless of the
context. Wong and Hong reviewed over 10 other studies of previous research to get an accurate
understanding of the effects of culture priming on cultural specific behavior. As a result, the review of
the previous research has lead them to two separate hypotheses. One, bi cultural participants would be

American symbolism, and neutral geometric drawings. All hundred and seventy one participants are

Prisoner Dilemma that focuses on cooperation or separation of individuals. Three dependent variables

cooperation from each game of partners. Lastly, the motivation to maximize cooperation benefits.
IV. Procedure The participants were culturally primed randomly by presenting seven slides of either
Chinese or American culture symbols such as, a Chinese dragon or American flag (Wong Hong,

the participants knew the symbols and what ideas they represented culturally. The participants in the

This is to be expected, as self reporting measures proceed from subjective data gathering modality.
This places the validity and reliability of the instrument (and the results) at risk for misinterpretation,
and caution should be exercised in the examination and analysis of the sum data. There are numerous
methods by which to assure validity and reliability in the administration and interpretation of
assessment instruments. The constructs and framing of reliability and validity are disengaged into
types, rendering scrutiny more accurate and duplicable. With respect to personality assessment
inventories, types of validity would translate into an extension of types of reliability, the two most
principal of which would be parallel forms reliability (Frazier, Naugle, Haggerty, 2006), and inter rater
reliability (Ingenhoven Abraham, 2010). It is largely accepted that the phenomenon of faking
responses is a factor in the self reporting assessment administration, and can even be attributed to
inadvertent (accidental) impulsive (spur of the moment) categorical responding on the part of the
participant, Persons may either consciously or unconsciously provide inaccurate responses to
instrument inquiries through faking of responses to said inquiries (Groth Marnat, 2003, p. 65). Inter
rater reliability involves the judgment of multiple professional interpreters of the instrument and the
results (Ingenhoven Abraham, p. 237), which can be useful in that more than one professional can
diversify the evaluation of the assessment, advancing a general consensus, to the exclusion of
discursive interpretation. Parallel forms reliability requires that the assessment inquiries (questions) be
randomly displaced (moved around) from test to test (assessment form) (Frazier, Naugle, Haggerty,

  • 2. Cross Sectional Study Of STEC Shedding In Cow Herds Venegas Vargas et al. (2016) conducted a cross sectional study of STEC shedding in dairy and beef cattle herds in Michigan. STEC was found to be more prevalent in beef cattle (21%) versus dairy cattle (13%). Factors significantly associated with STEC shedding in dairy cattle included when maximum average temperatures exceeded 28.9C 1 5 days prior to sampling; animals in their first lactation; and animals less than 30 days in lactation. The authors suggested that possible control strategies could be considered for animals in their first lactation and/or within the first 30 days of lactation. Daily cleaning of cattle feeders reduced risk of STEC shedding compared with feeders cleaned less frequently. There is a poor understanding of the ... The authors did not find a correlation between seasonal effects and presence of virulence factors. Lambertini (Lambertini, Karns et al. 2015) noted the challenges associated with direct cultural identification of pathogenic E. coli due to the wide diversity of E. coli subtypes in manure and feces. Aside from O157:H7, isolating STEC strains is confounded by lack of metabolic differences that can be utilized for their discrimination. The isolation of O157:H7 from manure and fecal samples requires labor intensive extraction with immunomagnetic beads and use of expensive chromogenic agars. By using qPCR to detect four virulence factor genes associated with enteropathogenic E. coli, the authors were able to conduct direct semi quantitative comparison of the relative abundance of virulence factors within the E. coli community associated with the analyzed sample. The authors cautioned that this cannot predict with certainty the presence of a specific pathogenic serotype but implies its possible presence. Virulence factor patterns consistent with E. coli O157:H7 were not detected in any milk samples, and only 0 2% of milk filter samples, confirming that even when STEC and EHEC are present in cow feces, appropriate sanitary practices effectively lower the risk of milk contamination. • 3. Cryptanalysis In World War II Thesis: The application of Cryptanalysis in World War II was imperative to both Allied intelligence efforts and success of Allied Powers during the Battle of the Atlantic. Citation: Rielage, Dale C. 2002. Indirectly in Operational Signals . Naval History16, no. 6: 31. History Reference Center, EBSCOhost (accessed November 16, 2016). Annotation: Rielage argues that due to Ultra intelligence finally being used to allow for an offensive front in the Atlantic in regards to U boats, much success was had. He backs up this statement citing Admiral Karl Donitz, who stated that the U boat losses which were thirteen percent before the use of Ultra for an offensive front in the Atlantic quickly rose to thirty to fifty percent. • 4. Examples Of Government Intervention In today s world, government intervention still divides the nation. We mainly witness this division during politics, with democrats and republicans. Government intervention increased immensely after the Great Depression. This is because of the fact that before the Great Depression, investors were freely using their money buying and spending, without any regulations, leading to the stock market crash. During the recession process, in order to land the economy back to a stable path, presidents and other officials intervened to speed the process up. While some people believe that government intervention should not be allowed, others believe that government intervention is beneficial to the nation because it is able to put regulations among those who affect the economy. Government interventions have allowed many helpful programs for Americans such as welfare, trade programs, and tariff limitations. It also has placed a fairness on the economy, allowing an equivalence of prices for the products that we buy and use on a daily basis. Some different types of government intervention include subsidies, tax breaks, and inflation. During 1990 2002, government intervention became a giant part of the marketplace in the United States. An example of this is during Bill Clinton s short term presidency. Clinton enacted plans that helped increase the economy s growth. Another example of this is during George W. Bush Jr s presidency term. His main goal of helping the economy as well as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Bilbo Baggins Quotes Bilbo Baggins Is A Hero A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. This quote by Christopher Reeves is a great description of Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo is just an ordinary hobbit. There is not anything exciting about his life. He lives in a quiet house, in a quiet town, with quiet people. Bilbo is a plain and simple individual. Throughout the book, however, Bilbo is faced with difficulties that he never dreamed would confront him. Instead of cowering away, Bilbo shows that he has the strength to prevail against his greatest enemies. This strength that Bilbo finds, along with other traits, are why I believe the he is a hero. Bilbo did not leave them, even when he had the opportunities and the rights to go back home. For instance, after he escaped the goblin s cave, the dwarves did not know where he went. Bilbo could have easily slipped away, but instead, he searched for them. He could have traveled home, Bilbo missed his home very much, but he thought about how the dwarves have been trying to return home for many, many years. Bilbo thought about his friends feelings, not just his own. He was willing to help them even when it meant danger for himself. Bilbo shows courage in the face of danger. He did not turn back when he faced the trolls, spiders, goblins, or even Smaug. Bilbo had never encountered any dangerous monsters before this adventure. Still, he defied them all, and many times alone. He had to rely only on himself. Luckily, Bilbo was also very clever. He was able to have Gollum show him the way out of the Goblin cave while avoiding him instantaneously. Also, when the dwarves were imprisoned by the wood elves, Bilbo created a plan that lead to their escape. If it were not for his masterful ideas, then the dwarves may have rotted in prison. In the Misty Mountains, he was able to talk to Smaug and still live to tell the tale. Though, Bilbo did not start off as a hero. It was throughout his adventure that he became ... First of all, Harold, as a misanthrope person dislike people in general, no mattering gender, age, race, social preferences, etc. He does not treat people differently, therefore he does not discriminate. • 8. Lowering Eligibility Requirements For Students Athletes Lowering eligibility requirements can be defined as what can be done to maintain eligibility and not necessarily just maintaining the required GPA. The whole purpose is to take into account the quality of education the student athletes are receiving. The greatest concern when discussing eligibility requirements is based on all the topics of changing grades, encouraging the enrollment of easy classes, and even the admission process. An article was written about keeping the colleges accountable in terms of making sure the student athletes are getting the best education they can. The chronicle received a statement from a Big Ten academic advisor stating, you jump, online, finish in a week and a half, get your grade posted, and you re bowl eligible (Carey, 27). The same article stated that these online (Carey). The importance of that statement is to bring emphasis that in order to maintain eligibility you just have to have a certain number of hours and GPA. There are no requirements of the quality of those hours and grades. How in the world are those student athletes going to benefit from that circumstance in the long run. The article states that the problem persists because of the term credit hour , defined as a unit of academic time that does little to measure student learning (Carey). Therefor I am researching the how do gay and straight Latinos construct their masculinity? Straight men deem anything feminine as less than, thus gay men are ousted. This ousting of gay men is a byproduct of heterosexism in which a men only date women and vice versa, thus gay men are seen as effeminate for the sole reason of dating other men. In an attempt to reclaim their lost masculinity gay men are rejecting effeminate men in an attempt to be seen as one of the good gays . • 10. Stereotypes In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood In the non fiction novel In Cold Blood, Truman Capote mediates the story of the murders of the Clutter family using the third person narrative. Through his lens, which contains his own prejudices and sympathies towards the characters, the readers are guided to see things from certain perspectives. His focused language and complex characterisation consequently have a significant influence on the reader s opinion of the characters as the story progresses, particularly the two murderers: Perry Smith and Dick Hickock. Despite them both being criminals, Capote was able to meet them in person for interviews, conducted without the use of notes or tape recording, allowing him to form bonds and his own opinions of them. Capote s connection and stronger sympathies to Perry are evident in the novel and due to the fact that they both came from tough backgrounds; were struggling with their sexuality in a society with widespread gay oppression, and had been treated like outsiders to society. • 11. Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe Having a new perspective with new ideas can change a person. This is true and can be applied to many different people and events, including a character in Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart. In the novel missionaries come to a tribe, Umuofia, and convert some of their people. However, a convert by the name of Enoch creates tension and unrest between the tribe and the missionaries. If this character were to be more cosmopolitan, one who is familiar and accepts other cultures and ideas, and followed ideas presented in Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism his actions would have been vastly different. When one applies Appiah s cosmopolitan ideas, in Cosmopolitanism to the character of Enoch in Achebe s Things Fall Apart, the character of Enoch changes to become an individual of more respect, which in turn would prevent the unrest between the missionaries and the Umuofia people in Things Fall Apart. Things Fall Apart exhibits many instances in which cosmopolitan ideas such as diversity in a society, can apply. One of these instances is when people of Umuofia leave the tribe to become Christians and join the missionaries, particularly Enoch. Enoch lived in Umuofia and followed their culture, but when the missionaries arrived he was one of the few who quickly followed the word of Christ. In Cosmopolitanism Appiah claims, If we want to preserve a wide range of human conditions because it allows free people the best chance to make their own lives, there is no place for the ... An Arab speaker who is engaging in his speech code called musayara is polite, indirect, courteous, and nonconfrontive to the other member of a conversation, whereas the speech code of Jewish is found sharp contrasting to that of Arabs. The communication code of Jewish is termed as dugri which means straight talk. Jews who is engaging in his speech code dugri employ a direct, pragmatic and assertive style. Since, speech codes are culturally distinctive and the meaning and significance of messages lies on codes, it is very important for those who engaged in the dialogues to understand and predict each other during any intercultural communication or dialogue. • 16. Bonnie And Clyde Essay Introduction Bonnie and Clyde is a kind of a realistic, drama, comedy, tragic, gangster movie, which was produced by Warner Bros and directed by Arthur Penn. This movie was released in 1967 and it was based on real life events. Bonnie and Clyde were two criminals who were traveling around central United States, robbing banks in the hope of becoming rich and famous. Before they began being partners in a crime, Bonnie was a hot, blonde waitress who worked in a café and did not like her job because boys who came to the café usually wanted to take advantage of her. On the other hand, Clyde was a young, handsome, small town thief who was robbing small stores and gas stations for a living. They both lived in hope to change their old, boring lives. They ... • 18. Devy Essay Discussion It is firstly important to note that our gaze dynamics are consistent with random walk processes. These movements are constant with what could be expected from long tailed Lévy distributions. Our results showed strong evidence for Lévy flights during both aesthetics rating and shape tasks. This makes sense, even in the presence of potentially larger inter individual differences. Since participants would find the tasks engaging, and would elicit more exploration. Interestingly our free viewing tasks trended towards H values that were less than 0.5. This indicates gaze dynamics that were sub diffusive or anti persistent, movements. That is, as the task at hand changes, so must the way in which our eyes engage with it. This further supports the previously proposed fixational exploration continuum model suggested by Otero Millan. We see consistent changes of scale invariance in gaze dynamics in multiples tasks, which is consistent with the model. However, with the changes in the Hurst component, it would be interesting to explore whether the gaze dynamics changes due to task also lie on such a spectrum. Even with the differences in the H values we observed, only the lower ends of both sub diffusive and super diffusive scales were seen values were only just above or below 0.5. Presumably, ranges of values exist far from this point which were not seen in this study. Real world scenarios can contain a multitude of complexity. With different levels of spatial complexity, static and dynamic stimuli, and attentional/task demands. The aim of this study was to further the investigation of eye movements. Which is why images were simplified to black and white fractal images with tightly controlled spatial complexity. • 19. College And College Education Today people disagree about whether going to college and getting a college degree is worth all of the hassle. To some entering the workforce out of high school is better than going to college to get the education required to do a job. The difference is in how someone was raised and what he or she believes. This is also shown in what kind of career that someone wants to do and the education required to do that job. Statistics show that people with an associates degree make one hundred twenty seven dollars more in median weekly earnings than someone with a high school diploma (Unemployment). Some argue that going to college is not required to get a good well paying job. There is truth to this argument in the form of the trades. These include jobs like construction, tile masons, and plumbers. Jobs such as these provide services for people that they typically can not do on their own. The contrary is also true. People can get a well paying job by going to college as well. Some careers from here are a graphic designer, an attorney, or a doctor. These jobs pay well, but the amount of years required to attain the certification to work in these professions is more than if you were to go to a trade school and learn a trade. Another discouraging factor is the cost of a college education compared to a trade school. Trade schools can be several thousands of dollars but come nowhere close to the price of going to a university or smaller college for several years. Another drawback is ... • 20. The Code Of Hammurabi s Law Humanities brings students a very important understanding that there is a big difference between understanding history and understanding culture. In history we learn about certain events, wars, treaties, plagues, etc. With humanities, we can come to understand the culture behind the history, how people behaved in a certain time period, what they believed in, what they created. This gives us a deeper understanding into how history was shaped, and the more we learn about other cultures the more we can respect each other as human beings. From the beginning of the text, in chapter one I was amazed by the how advanced some were in their day to day lives. The Hammurabi s law was as advanced as modern culture in many aspects. Women were largely independent, they could own property and do many things women in America couldn t do till the 60s. Although men could have more than one wife women still had rights . Within the Code of Hammurabi were wages, divorce, medical service fees, commerce, and land/property. This concept drew me into the text quickly. Building Trust And Credibility Is Important Introduction Trust can be defined as believing that someone or somewhat is reliable, nice, honest, effectual, etc. A department or business cannot be much stable without having trust. Trust can be of many types, like having trust on the employees, trust on the distributors and trust on the other stakeholders. Building trust or being credible is a basic accomplishment. This is based on main 4 cores. These are integrity, intent, capabilities and results. Similarly, for the Federal Police Agency it s a necessity. Federal Police Agency is thought to not to be trusted. Many people think that Police Agencies are corrupt and distrustful. That is somehow true. So the federal Police Agency must lead with trust. It is obvious that it has to follow the 4 cores of credibility. Building trust is however easier said than done (Myers, et.al, 2015). They have to work hard definitely. In this paper ways to build trust and credibility is mentioned. 1. Integrity: The first core of being credible is to opt the way of integrity. Integrity is the value of being sincere and having strong ethical principles; ethical uprightness. It is usually a personal alternative to sustain oneself to consistent honorable and ethical averages. Subsequently, it s really important obviously. The Federal Police Agency needs to hold integrity. • 22. Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Analysis The injury I chose to write about in this week s forum is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain. You will commonly see an ACL sprain in athletes associated with contact sports that require them come to an abrupt stop and pivot. The knee joint is a hinge joint that connects the femur to tibia. The anterior muscles of the quadriceps and the posterior muscles of the hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). The ACL consists of long rope like bands that fasten bones together to keep the knee stable. The ACL is one of four ligaments that stabilize the knee, and it is one of the most injured ligament in the knee. The medial and collateral ligaments run along the outside of the knee and prevent the knee from shifting side to side, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are located inside the knee and prevent the knee from shifting forward and backward (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). All these muscles and ligaments work together to keep our knee stabilized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ACL runs through the narrow femoral notch as it attaches the femur and tibia. The femoral notch is the space in the knee created by the femoral condyles (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). When the leg is hyperextended while simultaneously pivoting space is lost and the ACL gets pinched between bones (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). Depending on the amount of space in the narrow femoral notch and how much forced placed on the ACL will depend on the severity of the injury (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). ACL injuries fall in to one of three categories. Depending on the grade of the sprain depends on what type of treatment is needed, and how long it takes the injury to heal. Walter cannot bear the idea of allowing his son to even entertain the thought of a career as low as bus driving, when he feels he can give him so much more in the form of wealth and success. This raises an interesting question, why would he feel so repulsed by a ten year old wanting to be like him? On the other hand, alcohol due to its vertical orientation can lead to random distribution of vertical stacks on isolated silanol groups. In case of esterification (resulting from small amount of water in alcohol) we believe that small size of ethoxy group will permit solute to find some anchorage points on silica. Silica Solute Interaction (Aqueous system) In case of dilute aqueous solution, classical models explain the interaction of solute ions with the silica surface [ ]. However, when they do not have the proper guidance, lack of concern for their outside activities, they tend to stray, and seek out those who show concern for them.
