Rachel By Angelina Weld Grimke Analysis
Angelina Weld Grimké s, Rachel, portrays an African American family s experience and development
over the course of several years during the segregation era. Act one begins in a domestic setting,
introducing the main character, Rachel Loving. Rachel is eighteen, living with her mother, Mrs.
Loving, and brother, Tom. Notably, the Loving household is presented as a cheerful and affectionate
place, full of laughter and lightheartedness. In a like manner, Rachel emerges as warm and cheerful,
yet overall naive; never once questioning the absence of her father and brother, who passed ten years
earlier. Initially, Rachel is lively and passionate, bearing a deep infatuation for motherhood and
constantly proclaiming her dream to raise a child. Nevertheless,

Gold Price Is A Good Indicator Essay
Introduction
Gold has been controversial in recent years due to the sharp increase in gold price. Global Economic
Crisis in the year 2008 brought about uncertainty in the global economy. Jewelry, healthcare, and
industrial applications involve the use of gold. Investment in gold by governments, institutions,
private persons and households is another use of gold. Gold became insurance in economic
uncertainty. In uncertain and fragile macroeconomic conditions, we can get protection from inflation
through gold. Gold price is a good indicator to evaluate the health of the economy. Gold price
becomes high in the unhealthy economy because the investors start assembling gold to protect them
from inflation. Drop in gold price means the economy is healthy, as investors switch from gold to
other more profitable investments like bonds, stocks, real estate, etc. To understand the economy,
therefore, it is vital to understand the fluctuations in gold prices.
It is used as a tool in diversifying portfolios, hedging and risk mitigation. The risk in financial market
could be reduced by investing in gold, as it is a safe haven (Le and Chang, 2011). The price of gold is
directly affected by the perceptions about the economy. Gold as an economic indicator is questioned
by some researchers, but it is still recognized as inflation and exchange rate hedge. Gold is considered
as a safe asset in turmoil, investors like to invest in it
Governments give high value to gold. Due to this reason,

Impact Of The African Slave Trade
The impact on the African slave trade during 16th centuries to 19th centuries was huge. The economy
of those countries which allowed African slave trade grew bigger and bigger. For instance, America, a
huge land that had nothing before the trade, started to gain some profit out of farming and increased
hugely on population. They used a big amount of African slaves to farm and work. And this created
the economy better in America. Also Europeans, which were only one million people brought up 5.5
million African slaves (men, women, children) to the Western Hemisphere. 80 % out of 5.5 million
slaves were enslaved as a field worker (sugar). With all of those slaves working in the West
Hemisphere, Europeans gained huge profits and were able to ... Show more content on

The first thing that needs to be established is just how many slaves were brought to the Americas. This
has proven to be quite difficult at best. There have been many scholars debate just this subject alone.
As you will see, many well known scholars have problems justifying their own estimations or guesses.
A quick study of Philip D. Curtin s work: From Guesses to Calculations: Shows his writings are a
compilation of bits n pieces of information from previously thought of unimportant publishing s. His
sole purpose was to try to determine a more accurate account of the number of people brought over
from what parts of Africa and to what final location. He goes on to make it clear his findings should
not be construed as being accurate or to be relied upon with any degree of certainty: but rather an
accuracy range of about 20% approximations.
It should also be understood that some estimates would not even reach that standard of accuracy. They
are given as the most probable figures at the present state of knowledge. These considerations have
made it convenient to round out most quantities to the nearest one hundred, including data taken from
other authors...
Slavery has taken place throughout the world since before ancient times, and the act of trading slaves
was a common act throughout the world for centuries. Slavery previously existed in certain parts of

Where Am I Wearing Summary
When I first heard the title Where am I Wearing, I wasn t too excited about reading it. I thought it
would be another boring school book that I was required to study. However, after reading a few
chapters, I became intrigued and started to enjoy reading it. Kelsey Timmerman isn t just another
activist who is trying to convince you to stop buying clothes from big companies who use sweat shops
and chid laborers. He is giving you a perspective into the lives of those who work in these factories
and how they function in their everyday lives. It was interesting to hear the different encounters that
he had with these people. Timmerman presents us with the ongoing concern of are sweatshops and
globalization good for the people who live in these countries or do they do more harm then good?
Timmerman sets up visits to factories in countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, and the United
States. As an american consumer, Timmerman is on a mission. He chooses his favorite articles of
clothing and goes to see who and under what conditions they were made. Along with inspecting the
factories, he goes to hang out with the individuals and the families who work in the factories. He is not
just interested in the factories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I realized that these questions don t just apply to our clothes. I started asking myself where am I
eating, watching, sleeping and practically everything else that I use or do in a day. Timmerman is very
emotional and passionate which makes his writing so awe inspiring and fascinating. He brings up
many important issues in the book but paces them well. Instead of just bringing up a point and telling
us how he feels about it, he tells us the issue and then lets it soak in our minds for a while, while
telling of his experiences before he tells us his opinions. He addressed the issues from a different
perspective. One that someone who hadn t actually

Explain The Economic Logic Underpinning Mahan’S Theory
Explain the Economic Logic Underpinning Mahan s Theory of Sea Power
Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan published The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660 1783 in
1890, in which he attempted to analyze the role of sea control throughout history. Mahan, a naval
officer, used his sea experience to create a theory about naval history that is unlike any other history
work. Upon examination of Theodore Momsen s History of the Roman Empire, which included the
history of the Second Punic War, Mahan emphasized the significant role that sea communications
played in Rome s victory. Additionally, he describes the relevance of different maritime campaigns in
various battles that took place during the French and American revolutions. Mahan evaluates ... Show

Mahan devotes most of his introduction to the history of sea power. He starts by discussing how the
manner in which a war is fought changes as navies have evolved from galleys to steam ships as well
as the advancement of weapons, but that the principles behind maritime war remain the same. In effort
to illustrate the importance of sea power throughout history, Mahan details the impact that sea power
had on the second Punic War. The control of the water by the Romans forced Hannibal to depart on
the devastating venture through the Gaul. Instead of explaining the actual conflict at hand, Mahan
explores the strategy that would have been necessary to defeat Rome. The Carthaginians would have
needed to invade the Roman Empire in Italy either by sea or by transport through the Gaul. Rome had
control over any strategic location available to the Carthaginians during the war and this was all made
possible by the sea. Analyzing this war specifically through the actions of the Roman Navy proves that
the history of sea power is crucial in understanding the history of the world. Mahan asserts his belief
in the importance of learning from history by stating, The battles of the past succeeded or failed
according as they were fought in conformity with the principles of war; and the seaman who carefully
studies the causes of success or failure will not only detect and gradually assimilate these principles,
but will also inquire increased

Reflection Analysis
In 2017, it seems engagement in controversial discourse is the ultimate taboo. In fear of offending
others, youth avoid discussions of religion, political opinions, and economic problems altogether. Or,
in contrast, discussions of these topics turn hostile and have to be extinguished in the classroom. The
result of this problem is that many young people do not know what they truly think about
controversial topics, and a generation of apathetic thinkers that never go beyond the mainstream media
for their opinions is produced. A society without individual core beliefs and values cannot function as
a democratic republic. I think it is important for our society to be able to discuss controversial topics
because I think that, like Christ, we should meet others where they are. Every day, I see people
dismiss an idea simply because it does not fall in line with their particular political party or because
the idea conflicts with the sentiments of the popular media. Instead, if we hear out the challenging
opinions of others, we can unravel ideologies of our own. I also see people who avoid the news or
political disputes at all costs because they do not want to feel the debaters contention. I too dodged the
nightly news and the following dinner table deliberations until I attended Volunteer Girls State in June
2017. At Volunteer Girls State, I learned how to be civically engaged in my community and how to be
an effective leader. Throughout the week, I participated as a Senator,

Teenage Stereotypes
Lazy, Disrespectful, Selfish, Technology Crazed. These are just a few of the words that come to mind
when the typical adult describes the everyday teenager. To some, these descriptions are taken as a
given fact and lack recognition of the issue this poses to the individuals on the receiving end of such.
This is the exact issue present in discrimination and stereotyping. For years, a specific group of
individuals has been reduced to the negative connotations presented against them by every other group
that lacks such quality such as their race, gender, appearance, age ...etc. Every instance applicable
contains the common ground in which the other groups fail to recognize the harm in their superficial
classifications of one another due to narrow minded tendencies. This is the basis to every single form
of discrimination. An incredibly oppressed group who is by far, no stranger to these circumstances are
teens who continuously receive the hostility of adults for simply belonging to their age group. Present
day teenagers have come to be placed in an inaccurate box that classifies them as a selfish, immature
group by adults due several factors, the most prominent being the media and the form it introduces
teens to the average adult. The constant incorrect portrayal of teens in movies, t.v. and other platforms
has caused adult audiences to believe these classifications and thus, cause several issues to be inflicted
upon teens in several areas of their lives that calls for

A amp;P Essay
It is very common for teenagers to wish to gain some freedom by earning a small income. This is
often achieved through employment at fast food chains, markets, restaurants, and shops. As a result of
the amount of time consumed by these occupations, much of a teenager s life tends to focus on the
people and events that are central to these places of employment. Sammy, the main character in John
Updike s story A amp;P, is a superb representation of the teen employee. p
Updike places his character in a typical setting and allows the readers to view the events of the story

After working for approximately three years in a bicycle shop where this characteristic can be easily
observed, I have found that customers will continue on their decided path of examining merchandise
and comparing prices, without regard for any added stimuli. During the busier seasons, it seems
especially true that one could, as stated by Sammy, set off dynamite . . . and the people would by and
large keep reaching and checking (Updike 371). This characteristic alienates the employee from
customers: in most cases, they are held to the belief that finding the lowest priced, lowest quality item
is necessary; they expect the employee to understandingly ring up six pairs of checkered spandex
cycling shorts that have been laying harmlessly dormant in the bargain bin since the 1980 s. Sammy
identifies this idea also by stating, what do these bums do with all that pineapple juice? (Updike 371).

The effort some customers place into catching an employee s mistake could easily establish customers

Two Moods In My Book Trailer
Written Justification Paper Mood There are two moods in my book trailer. One of the moods is more
of a sad mood. The mood is sad because Oakley loses her brother to cancer at the beginning of the
book. She has a hard time dealing with the loss of her brother because they were so close. There is
also another sad part in my book trailer, this is when Oakley finds out that her parents are getting a
divorce. The second mood of my book trailer is more happy and uplifting. The happy and uplifting
mood is because Oakley goes out and learns how to surf, does fun things with Carson, and her aunt
takes her out the boat to see the animals in the ocean. Oakley eventually learns to be okay with Lucas
s death and she then becomes a lot happier and then falls in love with Carson. Two Themes The first
theme in my book trailer is, Losing someone close to you can be hard. As humans, we all struggle
when we lose someone or something we love. It takes us awhile to move on but each and every day it
ends up being a little better. Oakley went through this in my book she lost her brother which was also
her best friend. For Oakley, it took her a long time to move on and be happy again. The second theme
in my book trailer is, The love for your family helps you. When you go through hard times your ...

pictures of a guitar, a camera, and a journal. The guitar and the camera represent two of her hobbies

are pictures of surfboards, a bicycle, and a lifesaver. The surfboards represent Carson liking to surf
and the bicycle is there to represent when Oakley and he went on bikes rides. The lifesaver is there
because he rescued Oakley from the strong waves. For Aunt Jo there are marine animals because she

Croatia Transition
In May 1990, the first multi party elections were held in Croatia and were won by the Croat nationalist
party of Franjo Tudjman. The Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, was therefore the first regime given
control of the newly independent Croatia. Under Tudjman s administration, ethnic war caused Croatia
to take a large step back and instead of focusing on further democratizing the country; Tudjman was
forced to pivot his attention to the Homeland War efforts. The Serb population of Croatia began to
rebel in 1990, and according to Croatian lecturer Pero Maldini, they began blocking the roads and
later expelling the Croatian and other non Serb population before turning to direct violence. This Serb
rebellion was initiated by the Greater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It set the tone for future policies and regimes needed to push the country further towards
democratization. By 1992, Tudjman was forced to form the Croat army in an effort to defend the state
from aggression. The Croat army was successful in fighting some of the aggression along with the
help from UN peacekeeping forces. In May and August 1995, the military operations Flash and Storm
helped liberate the most occupied areas in the state. These operations marked the Croatian victory of
its aggressors and the official end to the war. Operation Oluja or more commonly known as Storm was
the last major battle of the Croatian War of Independence and Marcus Tanner claims, Operation Oluja
marked the apotheosis of Tudjman s presidency. It was as if all his energy and concentration had been
fixed on the goal of securing Croatia s independence over all the territory it had been accorded by the
post Second World War arrangement in Yugoslavia. Here we can observe that Tudjman s main goal at
the time was to make Croatia a truly independent state and this was his way of further democratizing
the country. However, Tudjman s efforts weren t really beneficial for aiding democracy according to
Pero Maldini, The length of the war, its vast material destruction and the suffering of numerous
citizens had substantially slowed down, and in some cases even completely impeded democratization
processes. The

Guadalupe Hidalgo
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed in 1948, ended the Mexican American War. The treaty
doubled the size of the United States and halved the size of Mexico, as it stated that Mexico give the
United States Texas and accept the Rio Grande as Texas s boundary, as well as sell New Mexico and
Upper California to the United States for fifteen million dollars. Conditions of the treaty included that
any Mexicans currently living in the territories that were now owned by the United States could
become U.S. citizens and gave the U.S. power to deal with any problematic Native Americans on the
U.S. side of the border. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo sparked many lasting controversies and

became US citizens. These new American citizens became the victims of large scale racial prejudice.
With the war just ending, feelings of hatred were prominent and tension between Mexico and America

The Two Witnesses of Revelation
Who are the witnesses of Revelation 11? What is there importance? There are multiple theories on
who these witness are. One of the most popular theories is that it will be Elijah and Enoch because
they were taken away by God before their death.(2 Kings 2:11; Genesis 5:24; Hebrews 11:5) Others
believe that it will be Moses, who turned water to blood and sent other plagues on Egypt, and Elijah
because he stopped the rain in Israel for 3 1/2 years. (Exodus 7 12; 1 Kings 17:1) Another theory
believes that the two witnesses are the two houses of Israel. Finally, another theory is that these two
witnesses will be completely new. All of these have different twists and use scripture to back them up.
However, almost everyone believes their importance in the end times because it is pretty clearly stated
in the Bible. (Revelation 11: 1 14) First, let us look at the theory that the Moses and Elijah are the two
witnesses. The most common reason to believe Moses and Elijah are the two witnesses are because
the miracles they will perform are similar to the judgments inflicted in the Old Testament by Moses
and Elijah for the purpose of stimulating repentance. Elijah called down fire from heaven (2 Kings
1:10, 12) and pronounced a three and one half year drought on the land (1 Kings 17:1; James 5:17) the
same length as the drought brought by the two witnesses (Rev. 11:6). Moses turned the waters of the
Nile into blood (Ex. 7:17 21) and announced the other plagues on Egypt recorded in

The Success Of A College Student
President Obama was once quoted saying, By the end of this decade two in three job openings will
require some higher education. Two in three. And yet, we still live in a country where too many
Americans are priced out of the education they need. which is a pretty depressing statement to hear
from our commander in chief regarding the future of the people. America is known for being the land
of opportunity where typically the favored goal of the people is acquiring wealth for a better lifestyle
and future. Growing up as a kid I was always told by my teachers and parents that higher education
after high school is extremely necessary; this same expectation goes for the whole country as there is
clearly emphasis on getting a college degree in order to be successful. Although college may not be
for everyone, there are those who would really like to gain acceptance to an institution, but cannot
because they do not have the money to do so. The rise in cost to be a college student has become too
expensive for a country that encourages, and emphasizes higher education. Tuition and fees, loans,
and extra expenses become a big price to pay for wanting to play the proper role in society as a
student looking for a better future. Today s college students have to deal with a huge financial decision
at a very young age that leads to frustration and confusion which is caused by the inflating prices of
college tuition. As decades have passed, it is clear that the cost of college

The Effect Of Heat Engines On Energy Essay
An engine is a device, which transforms one form of energy into another form. While transforming
energy from one form to another, the efficiency of conversion plays an important role. Normally, most
of the engines convert thermal energy into mechanical work and therefore they are called heat engines
. Heat engine is a device that transforms the chemical energy of a fuel into thermal energy and utilizes
this thermal energy to perform useful work. Thus, thermal energy is converted to mechanical energy in
a heat engine. Fuel economy of engines is greatly improved from the past and probably continued to
be improved, increased in number of automobiles alone dictate that there will be a great demand for
fuel in the near future. Alternative fuel technology, availability, and use must and will become more
common in the coming decades. However, the use of an alternative fuel decreases the break thermal
efficiency of engines, due to lower calorific values compared to normal petrol fuel. Also due to the
high cost of petroleum products, some countries are developing and trying to use alternative fuels for
vehicles. Internal combustion engines are established as the main power source for the automobile
vehicles. At present emission norms become strict for any IC engine. The main pollutants in SI engine
are CO, UBHC, NOx, etc. from which CO and UBHC are the most harmful component. Since
emissions are byproducts of the combustion process, the main body of petrol engine research is to

very sophisticated, mature clothing. She tends to keep it interesting with prints, ruffles, and a more

with chunky heels, leather jackets, and statement jewelry. Line matched Spencer s style with her
personality very well by giving her a preppy and conservative look with blazers, blouses, and
cardigans. The girly girl out of the bunch could almost always be identified as Hanna due to her
abundance of feminine, bright, and glamorous fashion. Unlike any of the other girls, Emily wore a
sportier look. She was often dressed in t shirts, jeans, and sneakers. The day to day clothing on Pretty
Little Liars was always on point, but the most extravagant clothing was worn for big events. Some of
these events included prom, Halloween, balls, and fashion shows for charity. Line outdid herself by
putting the characters in upscale dresses, accessories, and shoes. The fashion in Pretty Little Liars
gave the show a special element that kept teenage girls engaged.

11. Leave the slide to air dry.
B. Examination:
1. Place the slide under microscope on low powered lens. 2. Move the slide using the apparatus until
the sample can be seen as a blur under the microscope.
3. Focus the lens to ensure that there is a sample directly under the lens. 4.
Move to higher powered lens, repeat step 3. 5. Move to higher powered lens, repeat step 3 6. Move
microscope aside and add Oil immersion, leave for a few seconds and re examine the slide.
Note Shape and colour and any other observations.
Results and Observations:
It was evident by visual examination that the alcohol was de colouring or a least partially de colouring
the bacteria. The sample appeared a dark pink or close to violet by the naked eye; a microscope was
needed to ensure results. Under the low powered microscope shades of pink were noted. Under the
medium power, the shades were more clear but no shape could be made out. Under the high powered
microscope clumps of pink rod (bacilli) shaped bacteria cells could be observed. Under Oil Immersion
and high powered lens the cells could seen more spaced out and thus a clearer indication of the pink
colour, bacilli shape and spores could be made out in the individual cells.
Conclusion:
The Shape was noted as Bacilli (Rod like) shaped cells; a gram variable shape, distinct in either Gram
Negative or Gram positive bacteria. The final colour of the cells were stained pink by

The Passage Of Time Has Resulted On National And...
The passage of time has resulted in numerous political parties around the world that deliberate on
national and international policy. These parties prioritize certain issues over others resulting in the
multitude of party platforms such as Green, Conservative, Liberal Democrat, etc. that are seen in
governments. Some of these parties are tactically suited to maintaining their original stance with
issues that have come up over time. For example, the green parties which have gained relevance
concurrently with environmental issues seem to maintain a fairly steady political stance. Other parties,
however, have long histories of voting and precedence in government that have sustained over
centuries such as conservative and liberal parties. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hypothesis is that of national location. The philosophy behind this political positioning suggests
that in an issue such as European integration there will be more variation seen in countries that have
more diverse social and economic factors involved in policy making. The article suggests that with
this hypothesis that issues will be decided on by parties potentially depending on what is in the best
interest at tat time based on the national feeling that is present in their respective countries. This
hypothesis is certainly well founded in the idea of European integration as if national interests are
largely in favor of integration it stands to follow that parties and policy would likewise be in favor.
Still, the next hypothesis that is given, the median supporter, also makes sense for parties and shifting
stances. In this parties would generally change their stances just enough to create the most potential to

American Dream In The American Dream
People who believe in the American Dream believe that those who come to America and work hard in
what they aspire to be can earn a better life for themselves. Its beliefs like these that give the biggest
disillusionment for people that want to come to America for a better future for their family or for
themselves. The American Dream can be both moving and inspiring, but it is also problematic, leading
to the possibility of failure and disappointments. The Buddha in the Attic, by Julie Otsuka, exemplifies
this belief with a story about Japanese women that come to America for a better life. It illustrates that
the American dream is a failed dream for those who immigrate to America. The novel The Buddha in
the Attic by Julie Otsuka, follows the lives of a group of young women as picture brides as they travel
by boat to America waiting to meet their future husbands and hoping for the American dream. They
work hard beside their husbands to make a place for themselves and possibly create a family. After the
bombing of Pearl Harbor, however, the American dream turns into a nightmare as the Japanese are
forced to leave behind the things for which they have worked so hard and are sent to interment camps.
The book is composed of eight different sections of the group of women. Each section outlines the
major highlights of the women s lives following their journey through America that eventually meet to
deception. The theme of novel portrays broken dreams and is illustrated through out each section of
the novel. In the beginning, it was explained that the group of Japanese women were immi grating to
America traveling with high hopes and anxiously waiting to meet their soon to be husbands. With no
idea who they were about to marry, the group of women had only pictures of the men that kept the
empty idea of who they were about to spend the rest of their lives with and potentially start a new
family. They show off these pictures to the other women on the boat before they do anything else. The
pictures represented the hopes that the women had for their lives in America. Unfortunately, after
landing, the men turned out to be not what the women were expecting, some being kind and the rest
being violent and cruel to the

College Campus Research Paper
College campuses are like giant mixing pots: overflowing, full of people from different backgrounds,
of different race, ethnicities, religions, etc., yet these people, each with such a unique upbringing, are
all collectively craving the same particular thing. They all are relying on a source that isn t physically
there, isn t able to be felt, touched, or even visualized. Even all across the globe, wherever you might
be, whatever situation you might be in, everyone is either connected to the internet, or striving to
become connected, at that very moment. The internet has become something so natural in all of our
lives, that without it it s like you ve lost a limb. It has become more a part of our lives than even our
own family: say you haven t spoken with your family in a couple of hours, no big deal; say you

Perplexing Economic Welfare
In providing economic security, the United States is failing compared to the democracies of European
countries. The United States has the most inefficient welfare system in the Western world (Patterson,
2013). In the United States, it is hard for people to qualify for assistance in a public assistance
program, as the eligibility criteria can be perplexing. Many programs are complicated and have no
sliding eligibility scale. For instance, a person who makes $495 in monthly income could be eligible
to receive a specific benefit, where another person making $500 in income a month could be ineligible
(Patterson, 2013). There are many instances where people who are considered poor to society try to

Fatigue, Excessive Vomiting, Headaches, Depression,...
Fatigue, excessive vomiting, headaches, depression, irritability, infertility, and death; these are all
symptoms and repercussions associated with HIV/AIDS. For such a long time, HIV/AIDS has been
called a gay disease. Even though the gay community was and is one the most affected populations, is
stating HIV/AIDS is a gay disease honestly rational or is it simply a way for individuals who do not
agree with same sex lifestyles to villainize and blame the very people they despise? The first article

One of the ways Salyer used ethos in a very effective way to argue his claim was when he said, They
are not all gay. African American and Hispanic women together represent less than one fourth of all
U.S. women, but account for more than three fourths (76%) of AIDS cases among women in this
country (CDC Update, 6/98), (Para. 3). This use of the CDC, the Center for Disease Control, as a
source is very strong and credible because it is the sole purpose of the CDC to disclose information
regarding diseases and viruses in the United States. He was also attempting to make the point that not
all HIV cases are composed entirely of gay men. The article continues to use other, equally as strong
sources, such as: the New York Times, UNAIDS, and Dr. Sharon Hillier of the University of
Pittsburgh.
The latter article titled AIDS Is A Gay Disease uses ethos very poorly in comparison to its opposition.
The only really viable time Benkof uses ethos effectively is when he uses information cited as
belonging to Matt Foreman who is the Executive Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task
Force. The mere mention of Matt Foreman came when Benkof said,
When gay leader Matt Foreman called AIDS a gay disease in 2008, narrow minded groups seized the
opportunity to renew their tired argument that homosexuality is a dangerous lifestyle (an odd analysis
given the rarity of HIV transmission through lesbian sex). But

And will there be rabbits, George? Yeah, Lennie. There ll be rabbits.
There is a certain curse attached to the most familiar lines in literature. Because we know them so

In John Steinbeck s novel Of Mice and Men, made into an enduringly popular movie, the lines about
the rabbits have became emblems for the whole relationship between George and Lennie the quiet

thought I could believe the line about the rabbits one more time, but this movie made me do it, as
Lennie asks about the farm they ll own one day, and George says, yes, it will be just as they ve

Explain the role of discretion in the criminal justice system.
As a society we believe that offenders should be held accountable for their actions but also treated
fairly in the criminal investigation, trial process and sentencing. As a result of this, the power of
discretion, that is the ability to choose from a range of options, is granted to some authorities ensure
some flexibility for decision making within the system, enabling a more holistic outcome for all
parties involved. The issues that explore and reflect the role of discretion within our criminal justice

Meanwhile, Don Weatherburn as director of BOCSCAR expressed his concern as he stated; it is naïve
to imagine that a young offender, after years of involvement in crime, will suddenly become law
abiding . As a result, police discretion is a very important aspect of prosecuting juvenile crime, as it is
clear that in some cases going to court should be the outcome for young offenders. However the role
of discretion for police lies in being able to decide which cases and which circumstances warrant the
result of court, as opposed to the multiple alternative forms of punishment that police have the power
to enforce.
A controversial aspect of the criminal justice system is the Crown s use of discretion when it decides
to make charge negotiations. This means that the crown offers the accused a lesser charge should they
plead guilty to it. In doing so, the crown benefits from the assured conviction (maintaining peace and
security by an efficient means) and the accused benefits from a lesser sentence. However by
employing powers of discretion in this case and making a deal with offenders, is seems to be at the
expense of victims as there if insufficient retribution. The case of Nannette May (2009) epitomises the
concern of victims, as May was not given a chance to give evidence against her attacker due to his

spotlight on parts of the females that would typically not be considered sexual shoulders. It has been
said over and over again that the way these girls are dressing is a cause for a distraction for the male
students (Zhou, 2015, para.11). In a way schools are allowing students to continue this behavior for
their future, making judgements on females based on what they are wearing. This is where rape
culture comes into play. Dress codes serve to normalize rape culture, as women are pushed to feel
ashamed of their body and what they show, as innocence as it may seem. Sarah Gordon, a Girl Up
Teen advisor, says rape culture, a building block of the patriarchy, says that men have the license to do
almost anything they want, that women are temptresses, and that if a woman is a victim to a man s

the belief that women and girls are sexual objects and should be defined by that. Putting less stress on
what a woman is wearing will allow stronger, happier women.

It is their job to build a strong foundation in order for their children to have a successful and
meaningful life. This foundation needs to be built starting at a young age, and needs to be kept
throughout the child s life. Morals are probably the most import part in an individual s life. Morals
define whats right and whats wrong and good from bad. Crime is often times associated with a lack of
morality. Juvenile develop as a result of broken homes, low self esteem and a lack of parental love,
When this part of the foundation is missing, a person can become corrupt. The parents really need to
focus in on teaching their children morals, because it will shape the character of the individual and
help him to become a better person. These morals will help guide the child throughout their lifetime.
The crime rate would be considerably lower in the world if this crucial piece of the foundation is
properly assembled. Parents can also influence the religious beliefs of the child. This is also another
very important thing for a child to understand and learn. Religion may give the child someone or
something to pray to when in a time of need. It also will give the child a sense of hope and faith.
Without hope and faith, the child may find himself to be lost and confused, and religion will hopefully
shed light on the right path and help to make better life decisions. Good Parents should guide children

from when he was working for them as a buyer back in the early nineties, helping them to rebuild their
shares as they had fallen to around ten pence. Simon has also been on the board since 1997 helping to
plan of the company putting it together.
How Simon has managed to take over from David Jones and how has he kept the business running
successfully.
Simon Wolfson was appointed the role Chief Executive Officer in 2001, the role was passed down
from David Jones who was the previous Chief Executive Officer from 1988. It mentions in a report
from the Telegraph (20th May 2001) it helped even more that Jones spotted his talents early on and
promoted him into ever more senior, precarious positions. If Wolfson s promotion had been blind
nepotism, the whole company would have suffered the consequences by now. Instead it has flourished.
The quote mentions the fact that if Simon didn t take over the business it may not have flourished

Survival In Auschwitz Research Paper
Arguably the Holocaust affected many innocent people who had no explainable reasons for why a
devastating succession had pointed them out. Germans had no consideration of how much suffering
was occurring they were basically beasts with no lack of remorse. Survival In Auschwitz, a memoir by
Primo Levi, who has also personally lived the tremendous revolution of the attack towards Jewish
people, he writes about the disasters occurring during this occasion, the way dehumanization had
taken people s identity, and a plan to cope with the situation. A disastrous journey took place around
1943. A vast of Jewish people were captured by the Germans and with absolutely no knowledge they
were being taken to a place of no hope. Behind

Sociological Perspectives Of Functionalism, Conflict...
Explain the three major sociological perspectives of functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic
interactionism. Identify which perspectives use a macro level or a micro level of analysis. Apply each
perspective to socialization.
Functionalism Macro Level This means that each person has a specific function and that each society
works together to achieve what is best. For example, my 2 boys attend a public school. The school is
funded by taxes I pay as well as neighbors who do not have any children attending school. Schooling
helps teach and socialize my children and will enable them to continue their education years later.
Conflict Theory Macro level This is built off of resources, status, and power that are not evenly

We decide how our peers come to a conclusion about us. For example, why do people I am intelligent
or why do people think that I am uneducated?
We take what people say about us to heart. Which in turn makes us question ourselves. For example, I
must be intelligent if others think so or I must be dumb if others think that I am uneducated.
Goofman s dramaturgical model of interaction is similar to Cooley s looking glass self in that we are
judged daily by our peers, that we care what others think of us and we try to modify ourselves so that
we are able to give a good impression and not a bad one. Impression management is 1 aspect of his
model. We try to give off a good impression to our peers. Basically, we are trying to show them our
best side. They are also similar as they both involve emotions
Goofmans dramaturgical model of interaction is different from Colleys looking glass self due to
Goffmans front and back stage. The front stage is where we are able to control what someone may see.
Whereas the back stage is where we are able to let our guard down. Cooley s concept is based on self
image where front stage and back stage is based on how we control that self image.
Identify and define the seven basic elements of nonmaterial culture.
Gestures are a way of communicating with others using our body. For example, we use our hands to
wave, which is another way of saying hello.
Language is the primary way of communicating with one

The Military And Institutions Of Higher Education
Background
Throughout most of the wartime eras of the United States, there has been a symbiotic relation between
the military and institutions of higher education. This relationship was precipitated by the Morrill Act
of 1862, which provided grants of public land to states to establish institutions of higher learning to be
operated in conjunction with state and federal governments (Renne, 1960). One particular focus of the
land grant institutions was to focus on the teaching of military tactics. Considered an afterthought
stipulation to the Morrill Act Legislation (Abrams, 1989, p. 16), this stipulation that required land
grant institutions to offer military training as part of the curriculum would become pivotal in building
the foundation for relationship between the military and institutes of higher education.
The military training provision of the Morrill Act was perhaps undergirded by the nation s
commitment to the notion of the citizen soldier versus the need for a standing army. Congressman
Justin Morrill, the author of the legislation, thought it best to give young men the experience of being
soldiers in colleges run by civilians versus the United States possibly creating a large professional
military establishment (Abrams, 1989). In addition to citizen soldiers, the Morrill Act was aimed at
educating the children of the working class and farmers (Renne, 1960).
World War II would begin to solidify the connection between universities and the military as it was

Call And Response Of The Black Church
Call and Response in the Black Church Roll, Jordan, Roll , Nobody Knows the Trouble I ve Had , Go
Down, Moses , and Wade in the Water are the titles of only a handful of what were called Negro
Spirituals , which originated during the reign of slavery in the United States (Frey). Such spirituals
used call and response, a method of communication that was popular with slaves who brought African
traditions to America, and gave way to the gospel music and unique form of preaching characteristic
to the Black Church. The history of the Black Church, which began during the slave era, demonstrates
the way that African Americans found refuge in Christianity, where the church became the center for
African American communities (Baer). Born out of struggle and oppression, the Black Church not
only became the focus for the religious practices of African American communities, but also worked
to re member the community through rituals such as that of call and response, a core element of the
Black Church which served as a powerful tool for the African American community in the fight for the
exercise of true freedom in America.
Since its formation, the Black Church worked as a center of resistance for the African American
community towards a white dominant society (Baer). In the midst of slavery within the United States,
African slaves were able to find sanctuary through religion, primarily using call and response through
spirituals while working the fields in an effort to inspire

Tracking Pba Schedule
INTRODUCTORY SUMMARY
In the past two years, our company has consistently missed the release dates for our PBA (printed
board assembly) products. These missed releases have resulted in fines to the company, and extreme
customer dissatisfaction. We have had to reduce our workforce considerably over the past year, and in
the process, we have lost experienced employee talent. Middle management has accepted the
challenge to develop a PBA Design to Release Spreadsheet. This spreadsheet process will assist our
Research and Development organization in achieving the company s goal to honor its contractual
obligations to customers. Since budget cuts are in place, the spreadsheet will be developed based on
existing resources and work force. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once each group has agreed upon their responsibilities, the Team Lead will present the list to the Core
Team. In the past, when this kind of information has been collected, the biggest concern expressed
from all of the groups is the limited amount of time they have to complete their job efficiently. Their
main concern is limited personnel and resources. This spreadsheet tracking process will present a
work culture challenge in the way our teams approach their tasks.
CORE TEAM REVIEWS EACH GROUP S DEFINITION OF DUTIES
After each group has completed their list of tasks and timelines, the Core Team reviews the combined
results. The Core Team s goal is to evaluate the lists, and incorporate them into the final spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet will define the fundamental duties and timelines to complete for each group. The
ultimate goal is to get the product to the customer within eight months.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The logical approach is to start to perform the design work in parallel across groups, when practical.
This practice of concurrent engineering is commonly used by understaffed, schedule driven
companies. Using this method, each group can be working on their portion of the design, without
having to wait for the previous group to complete their portion. When the schedule of the PBA release
has been established, an excel spreadsheet is generated with each participant s responsibilities and
timelines.

Sandra Cisneros Women Hollering Creek
. These stories normally consisted of common people, and tended to be pessimistic and were amoral.
Fate characteristically played a role how the events of the story occurred, but of the best ways to
characterize a naturalist work is to look at the role of desires. Throughout the Naturalism movement
people s desires were dictated what they did. Although many other movements followed Naturalism,
authors continue to use attributes of it, especially desires, in their stories including from 1945 to the
present day. Since the late 1940s, literature has had to compete with television as another form of
popular entertainment, and this effects the desires of people. Once televisions started being introduced
in American households, people idolized the lifestyles that shows depicted. This transformed their

Her longing to have a romantic relationship like her beloved telenovelas was not met when she found
herself in an unsatisfying abusive relationship. Cisneros included this in her story to show how
televisions have distorted people s view of what life should be like that was previously discussed. In
Women Hollering Creek if Cleófilas had not been so influenced by the telenovelas, it may have taken
longer for her to realize how horrible her situation was. At the beginning of the story her father knew
that one day she would dream of returning to her family People s desires do not always go unmet, but
sometimes it might be better if they did. Sometimes people get so obsessed about getting what they
want, that they do not realize how harmful it could be for them. Although there are times when desires
are not harmful, when they become an obsession they can overtake someone s life and lead them
down a path that is best untaken. In Bernard Malamud s Magical Barrel Leo had many desires that
became obsessions that did more harm than

Persuasive Essay On Police Violence
The protest started with Colin Kaepernick sitting down during the National Anthem for police
brutality so just because he did something small for justice means he should be unemployed and lose
millions of dollars. So now most of the NFL players kneel during the national anthem. When Trump
saw this he said the the players should be fired or the people that go there should walk out. When the
NFL heard about this lot were outraged, all of the teams lock arms and stand close together some also
kneels. Two teams stayed in their locker rooms when the National Anthem was sung. A National
Anthem singer for a Titans game kneeled during the whole song she sung, as well a local singer for
the Lions and Falcons game but for the most of the song he stood until the ending he knelt and held up
a fist as he sang the last word of the song. This whole controversy is just messed up. Politics should
not get into sports period and just stay worried about bigger things like North Korea. So why should
he worry about the NFL. Politics should never be into sports because they are all private organizations
so he should be telling them what to do. But why do people want to boycott the NFL, They aren t
disrespecting the song at all they just want to make a statement just equal justice and if people can t
see that then why get mad over something as little as that just because they won t stand for the song.
So just look at the big picture and understand why their doing this and not just on that

Autism Spectrum Disorder Essay
Even with a substantial amount of research on the complex concept of Autism Spectrum Disorder
(ASD), much remains unknown when it comes to the root of this disorder. Study after study have
shown that there are multiple brain regions of the ASD brain that act differently when compared to
typically developing (TD) individuals. One area of the brain that researchers have shown an interest in
is the fusiform gyrus. The fusiform gyrus is a section of the brain that is located between the
parahippocampal gyrus and the lingual gyrus medially and the inferior temporal gyrus laterally on the
basal temporal and occipital cortex ( ). The reason why this area is critical to understanding the ASD
brain is its functions in color processing, word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of ASD facial recognition, experimenters use fMRI to look at the FFA levels of activation
to compare to the TD control groups.
A common methodology for exploring the concept of face emotion recognition in individuals with
ASD is the comparing of brain activation in response to human faces compared to nonhuman faces or
objects. A key aspect of social cognition is being able to look at someone s face and interprete how
that individual is feeling. This is something that has been continuously found to be lacking in
individuals with ASD. Multiple studies have been conducted using human emotions, the faces of
animals, and inanimate objects such as houses. Whyte (2016) used animal faces an human faces to
measure activity in the high functioning autism (HFA) brain compared to the TD brain. The fMRI scan
results exhibited overall hypoactivation in the HFA individuals when compared to the TD control
individuals. Another interesting discovery that has been found consistently is the the FHA/ASD
individuals displayed higher activation in the facial functioning areas when viewing animals than
human faces. When compared to the TD participants, the HFA individuals did not have any difference
in the morphology of the brain structures under observation (Whyte, Behrmann, Minshew, Garcia,
Scherf, 2016) The fact that a difference in activation was found without any difference in the

The Basic Types Of Tissue
Tissue
In humans, there are four basic types of tissue:
1. Connective tissue
2. Muscle tissue
3. Nervous tissue
4. Epithelial tissue
Epithelial tissue subtypes
The epithelial tissue covers inner and outer layer/surface of the body, e.g. the stomach, or blood lines,
vessels and the lung.
The epithelium consists of closely packed, flattened cells that make up the inside/ outside lining of
body areas. Epithelial tissues that cover/line surfaces are classified by cell shape and by the number of
cell layers, the image on the left is the subtypes of epithelial tissue;
Squamous flattened cells, fried egg shape in appearance. The nucleus is flattened and centrally
located. Because of their thin membrane and large surface area, it allows passage of small molecules
e.g. air diffusion in the lungs. The function of simple squamous tissue is absorption excretion of gases
lungs. And the function of stratified squamous is protection due to its many layers and is located in the
outer layer of skin, oral cavity lining, esophagus, vaginal anal canal.
Cuboidal cubed or squarish shaped, has a single nucleus located in the middle. The simple cuboidal
tissue can be found in the lines of kidney tubules and glands it s function is absorption, secretion and
protection. The stratified cuboidal tissue is found in the lines ducts of sweat glands, it s job is to
secrete water ions.

The Success Of Steve Jobs
Over the course of 7 years, over 500 million iPhones have been sold worldwide. 122 million Macs
have been sold throughout 28 years, and up until September 2012, 350 million iPods have been sold.
The numbers are immense and still growing, and there are reasons that explain them. To sustain a
company, one that has sold well over 1 billion self produced units (and counting) (up until today), for
about 21 years total, takes much prudence, determination, and most importantly, leadership. Steve
Jobs, co founder of Apple, Inc., had all three of those traits, and they were always used for the better in
his company. Jobs got the company back up on its feet after rough stock market shares and low sales
caused by competing companies, and led it to success with increasingly innovative products that
rapidly sold nationally at first, then soon internationally. The new ideas that computers such as the
Macintosh put forward into the computer world has set the standard for computers up until the current
day. Steve Jobs innovation and leadership led the company of Apple to create renowned and life
changing products that essentially made the lives of their users easier and changed the world of
technology forever.
Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco and was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs,
a young couple graduated from the University of Wisconsin. As a child, Jobs loved working with his
hands and enjoyed de and reconstructing things, especially electronics. He learned the

  • 2. Rachel By Angelina Weld Grimke Analysis Angelina Weld Grimké s, Rachel, portrays an African American family s experience and development over the course of several years during the segregation era. Act one begins in a domestic setting, introducing the main character, Rachel Loving. Rachel is eighteen, living with her mother, Mrs. Loving, and brother, Tom. Notably, the Loving household is presented as a cheerful and affectionate place, full of laughter and lightheartedness. In a like manner, Rachel emerges as warm and cheerful, yet overall naive; never once questioning the absence of her father and brother, who passed ten years earlier. Initially, Rachel is lively and passionate, bearing a deep infatuation for motherhood and constantly proclaiming her dream to raise a child. Nevertheless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gold Price Is A Good Indicator Essay Introduction Gold has been controversial in recent years due to the sharp increase in gold price. Global Economic Crisis in the year 2008 brought about uncertainty in the global economy. Jewelry, healthcare, and industrial applications involve the use of gold. Investment in gold by governments, institutions, private persons and households is another use of gold. Gold became insurance in economic uncertainty. In uncertain and fragile macroeconomic conditions, we can get protection from inflation through gold. Gold price is a good indicator to evaluate the health of the economy. Gold price becomes high in the unhealthy economy because the investors start assembling gold to protect them from inflation. Drop in gold price means the economy is healthy, as investors switch from gold to other more profitable investments like bonds, stocks, real estate, etc. To understand the economy, therefore, it is vital to understand the fluctuations in gold prices. It is used as a tool in diversifying portfolios, hedging and risk mitigation. The risk in financial market could be reduced by investing in gold, as it is a safe haven (Le and Chang, 2011). The price of gold is directly affected by the perceptions about the economy. Gold as an economic indicator is questioned by some researchers, but it is still recognized as inflation and exchange rate hedge. Gold is considered as a safe asset in turmoil, investors like to invest in it Governments give high value to gold. Due to this reason, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Impact Of The African Slave Trade The impact on the African slave trade during 16th centuries to 19th centuries was huge. The economy of those countries which allowed African slave trade grew bigger and bigger. For instance, America, a huge land that had nothing before the trade, started to gain some profit out of farming and increased hugely on population. They used a big amount of African slaves to farm and work. And this created the economy better in America. Also Europeans, which were only one million people brought up 5.5 million African slaves (men, women, children) to the Western Hemisphere. 80 % out of 5.5 million slaves were enslaved as a field worker (sugar). With all of those slaves working in the West Hemisphere, Europeans gained huge profits and were able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first thing that needs to be established is just how many slaves were brought to the Americas. This has proven to be quite difficult at best. There have been many scholars debate just this subject alone. As you will see, many well known scholars have problems justifying their own estimations or guesses. A quick study of Philip D. Curtin s work: From Guesses to Calculations: Shows his writings are a compilation of bits n pieces of information from previously thought of unimportant publishing s. His sole purpose was to try to determine a more accurate account of the number of people brought over from what parts of Africa and to what final location. He goes on to make it clear his findings should not be construed as being accurate or to be relied upon with any degree of certainty: but rather an accuracy range of about 20% approximations. It should also be understood that some estimates would not even reach that standard of accuracy. They are given as the most probable figures at the present state of knowledge. These considerations have made it convenient to round out most quantities to the nearest one hundred, including data taken from other authors... Slavery has taken place throughout the world since before ancient times, and the act of trading slaves was a common act throughout the world for centuries. Slavery previously existed in certain parts of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I thought it would be another boring school book that I was required to study. However, after reading a few chapters, I became intrigued and started to enjoy reading it. Kelsey Timmerman isn t just another activist who is trying to convince you to stop buying clothes from big companies who use sweat shops and chid laborers. He is giving you a perspective into the lives of those who work in these factories and how they function in their everyday lives. It was interesting to hear the different encounters that he had with these people. Timmerman presents us with the ongoing concern of are sweatshops and globalization good for the people who live in these countries or do they do more harm then good? Timmerman sets up visits to factories in countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, and the United States. As an american consumer, Timmerman is on a mission. He chooses his favorite articles of clothing and goes to see who and under what conditions they were made. Along with inspecting the factories, he goes to hang out with the individuals and the families who work in the factories. He is not just interested in the factories ... I started asking myself where am I eating, watching, sleeping and practically everything else that I use or do in a day. Timmerman is very emotional and passionate which makes his writing so awe inspiring and fascinating. He brings up many important issues in the book but paces them well. Instead of just bringing up a point and telling us how he feels about it, he tells us the issue and then lets it soak in our minds for a while, while telling of his experiences before he tells us his opinions. He addressed the issues from a different perspective. One that someone who hadn t actually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Explain The Economic Logic Underpinning Mahan’S Theory Explain the Economic Logic Underpinning Mahan s Theory of Sea Power Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan published The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660 1783 in 1890, in which he attempted to analyze the role of sea control throughout history. Mahan, a naval officer, used his sea experience to create a theory about naval history that is unlike any other history work. Upon examination of Theodore Momsen s History of the Roman Empire, which included the history of the Second Punic War, Mahan emphasized the significant role that sea communications played in Rome s victory. Additionally, he describes the relevance of different maritime campaigns in various battles that took place during the French and American revolutions. Mahan evaluates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mahan devotes most of his introduction to the history of sea power. He starts by discussing how the manner in which a war is fought changes as navies have evolved from galleys to steam ships as well as the advancement of weapons, but that the principles behind maritime war remain the same. In effort to illustrate the importance of sea power throughout history, Mahan details the impact that sea power had on the second Punic War. The control of the water by the Romans forced Hannibal to depart on the devastating venture through the Gaul. Instead of explaining the actual conflict at hand, Mahan explores the strategy that would have been necessary to defeat Rome. The Carthaginians would have needed to invade the Roman Empire in Italy either by sea or by transport through the Gaul. Rome had control over any strategic location available to the Carthaginians during the war and this was all made possible by the sea. Analyzing this war specifically through the actions of the Roman Navy proves that the history of sea power is crucial in understanding the history of the world. Mahan asserts his belief in the importance of learning from history by stating, The battles of the past succeeded or failed according as they were fought in conformity with the principles of war; and the seaman who carefully studies the causes of success or failure will not only detect and gradually assimilate these principles, but will also inquire increased ... • 7. Reflection Analysis In 2017, it seems engagement in controversial discourse is the ultimate taboo. In fear of offending others, youth avoid discussions of religion, political opinions, and economic problems altogether. Or, in contrast, discussions of these topics turn hostile and have to be extinguished in the classroom. The result of this problem is that many young people do not know what they truly think about controversial topics, and a generation of apathetic thinkers that never go beyond the mainstream media for their opinions is produced. A society without individual core beliefs and values cannot function as a democratic republic. I think it is important for our society to be able to discuss controversial topics because I think that, like Christ, we should meet others where they are. Every day, I see people dismiss an idea simply because it does not fall in line with their particular political party or because the idea conflicts with the sentiments of the popular media. Instead, if we hear out the challenging opinions of others, we can unravel ideologies of our own. I also see people who avoid the news or political disputes at all costs because they do not want to feel the debaters contention. I too dodged the nightly news and the following dinner table deliberations until I attended Volunteer Girls State in June 2017. At Volunteer Girls State, I learned how to be civically engaged in my community and how to be an effective leader. Throughout the week, I participated as a Senator, ... • 8. Teenage Stereotypes Lazy, Disrespectful, Selfish, Technology Crazed. These are just a few of the words that come to mind when the typical adult describes the everyday teenager. To some, these descriptions are taken as a given fact and lack recognition of the issue this poses to the individuals on the receiving end of such. This is the exact issue present in discrimination and stereotyping. For years, a specific group of individuals has been reduced to the negative connotations presented against them by every other group that lacks such quality such as their race, gender, appearance, age ...etc. Every instance applicable contains the common ground in which the other groups fail to recognize the harm in their superficial classifications of one another due to narrow minded tendencies. This is the basis to every single form of discrimination. An incredibly oppressed group who is by far, no stranger to these circumstances are teens who continuously receive the hostility of adults for simply belonging to their age group. Present day teenagers have come to be placed in an inaccurate box that classifies them as a selfish, immature group by adults due several factors, the most prominent being the media and the form it introduces teens to the average adult. The constant incorrect portrayal of teens in movies, t.v. and other platforms has caused adult audiences to believe these classifications and thus, cause several issues to be inflicted upon teens in several areas of their lives that calls for ... • 9. A amp;P Essay It is very common for teenagers to wish to gain some freedom by earning a small income. This is often achieved through employment at fast food chains, markets, restaurants, and shops. As a result of the amount of time consumed by these occupations, much of a teenager s life tends to focus on the people and events that are central to these places of employment. Sammy, the main character in John Updike s story A amp;P, is a superb representation of the teen employee. p Updike places his character in a typical setting and allows the readers to view the events of the story from the perspective of a teen. By doing this, he makes it simple for readers to relate with Sammy and his experiences. In reflection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After working for approximately three years in a bicycle shop where this characteristic can be easily observed, I have found that customers will continue on their decided path of examining merchandise and comparing prices, without regard for any added stimuli. During the busier seasons, it seems especially true that one could, as stated by Sammy, set off dynamite . . . and the people would by and large keep reaching and checking (Updike 371). This characteristic alienates the employee from customers: in most cases, they are held to the belief that finding the lowest priced, lowest quality item is necessary; they expect the employee to understandingly ring up six pairs of checkered spandex cycling shorts that have been laying harmlessly dormant in the bargain bin since the 1980 s. Sammy identifies this idea also by stating, what do these bums do with all that pineapple juice? (Updike 371). p The effort some customers place into catching an employee s mistake could easily establish customers as the most abhorrent aspect of a teen s job experience in its self. The number of customers that possess this fine quality seems to be related to a function that increases with respect to age; it appears that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Two Moods In My Book Trailer Written Justification Paper Mood There are two moods in my book trailer. One of the moods is more of a sad mood. The mood is sad because Oakley loses her brother to cancer at the beginning of the book. She has a hard time dealing with the loss of her brother because they were so close. There is also another sad part in my book trailer, this is when Oakley finds out that her parents are getting a divorce. The second mood of my book trailer is more happy and uplifting. The happy and uplifting mood is because Oakley goes out and learns how to surf, does fun things with Carson, and her aunt takes her out the boat to see the animals in the ocean. Oakley eventually learns to be okay with Lucas s death and she then becomes a lot happier and then falls in love with Carson. Two Themes The first theme in my book trailer is, Losing someone close to you can be hard. As humans, we all struggle when we lose someone or something we love. It takes us awhile to move on but each and every day it ends up being a little better. Oakley went through this in my book she lost her brother which was also her best friend. The Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, was therefore the first regime given control of the newly independent Croatia. Under Tudjman s administration, ethnic war caused Croatia to take a large step back and instead of focusing on further democratizing the country; Tudjman was forced to pivot his attention to the Homeland War efforts. In May and August 1995, the military operations Flash and Storm helped liberate the most occupied areas in the state. These operations marked the Croatian victory of its aggressors and the official end to the war. Operation Oluja or more commonly known as Storm was the last major battle of the Croatian War of Independence and Marcus Tanner claims, Operation Oluja marked the apotheosis of Tudjman s presidency. It was as if all his energy and concentration had been fixed on the goal of securing Croatia s independence over all the territory it had been accorded by the post Second World War arrangement in Yugoslavia. Here we can observe that Tudjman s main goal at the time was to make Croatia a truly independent state and this was his way of further democratizing the country. However, Tudjman s efforts weren t really beneficial for aiding democracy according to Pero Maldini, The length of the war, its vast material destruction and the suffering of numerous citizens had substantially slowed down, and in some cases even completely impeded democratization processes. The treaty doubled the size of the United States and halved the size of Mexico, as it stated that Mexico give the United States Texas and accept the Rio Grande as Texas s boundary, as well as sell New Mexico and Upper California to the United States for fifteen million dollars. Conditions of the treaty included that any Mexicans currently living in the territories that were now owned by the United States could become U.S. citizens and gave the U.S. power to deal with any problematic Native Americans on the U.S. side of the border. • 14. The Two Witnesses of Revelation Who are the witnesses of Revelation 11? What is there importance? There are multiple theories on who these witness are. One of the most popular theories is that it will be Elijah and Enoch because they were taken away by God before their death.(2 Kings 2:11; Genesis 5:24; Hebrews 11:5) Others believe that it will be Moses, who turned water to blood and sent other plagues on Egypt, and Elijah because he stopped the rain in Israel for 3 1/2 years. (Exodus 7 12; 1 Kings 17:1) Another theory believes that the two witnesses are the two houses of Israel. Finally, another theory is that these two witnesses will be completely new. All of these have different twists and use scripture to back them up. However, almost everyone believes their importance in the end times because it is pretty clearly stated in the Bible. (Revelation 11: 1 14) First, let us look at the theory that the Moses and Elijah are the two witnesses. The most common reason to believe Moses and Elijah are the two witnesses are because the miracles they will perform are similar to the judgments inflicted in the Old Testament by Moses and Elijah for the purpose of stimulating repentance. Elijah called down fire from heaven (2 Kings 1:10, 12) and pronounced a three and one half year drought on the land (1 Kings 17:1; James 5:17) the same length as the drought brought by the two witnesses (Rev. 11:6). • 15. The Success Of A College Student President Obama was once quoted saying, By the end of this decade two in three job openings will require some higher education. Two in three. And yet, we still live in a country where too many Americans are priced out of the education they need. which is a pretty depressing statement to hear from our commander in chief regarding the future of the people. America is known for being the land of opportunity where typically the favored goal of the people is acquiring wealth for a better lifestyle and future. Growing up as a kid I was always told by my teachers and parents that higher education after high school is extremely necessary; this same expectation goes for the whole country as there is clearly emphasis on getting a college degree in order to be successful. Although college may not be for everyone, there are those who would really like to gain acceptance to an institution, but cannot because they do not have the money to do so. The rise in cost to be a college student has become too expensive for a country that encourages, and emphasizes higher education. Tuition and fees, loans, and extra expenses become a big price to pay for wanting to play the proper role in society as a student looking for a better future. Today s college students have to deal with a huge financial decision at a very young age that leads to frustration and confusion which is caused by the inflating prices of college tuition. As decades have passed, it is clear that the cost of college ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Effect Of Heat Engines On Energy Essay An engine is a device, which transforms one form of energy into another form. While transforming energy from one form to another, the efficiency of conversion plays an important role. Normally, most of the engines convert thermal energy into mechanical work and therefore they are called heat engines . Heat engine is a device that transforms the chemical energy of a fuel into thermal energy and utilizes this thermal energy to perform useful work. Thus, thermal energy is converted to mechanical energy in a heat engine. Fuel economy of engines is greatly improved from the past and probably continued to be improved, increased in number of automobiles alone dictate that there will be a great demand for fuel in the near future. Alternative fuel technology, availability, and use must and will become more common in the coming decades. However, the use of an alternative fuel decreases the break thermal efficiency of engines, due to lower calorific values compared to normal petrol fuel. American Dream In The American Dream People who believe in the American Dream believe that those who come to America and work hard in what they aspire to be can earn a better life for themselves. Its beliefs like these that give the biggest disillusionment for people that want to come to America for a better future for their family or for themselves. The American Dream can be both moving and inspiring, but it is also problematic, leading to the possibility of failure and disappointments. The Buddha in the Attic, by Julie Otsuka, exemplifies this belief with a story about Japanese women that come to America for a better life. It illustrates that the American dream is a failed dream for those who immigrate to America. The novel The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka, follows the lives of a group of young women as picture brides as they travel by boat to America waiting to meet their future husbands and hoping for the American dream. They work hard beside their husbands to make a place for themselves and possibly create a family. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, however, the American dream turns into a nightmare as the Japanese are forced to leave behind the things for which they have worked so hard and are sent to interment camps. The book is composed of eight different sections of the group of women. Each section outlines the major highlights of the women s lives following their journey through America that eventually meet to deception. The theme of novel portrays broken dreams and is illustrated through out each section of the novel. In the beginning, it was explained that the group of Japanese women were immi grating to America traveling with high hopes and anxiously waiting to meet their soon to be husbands. With no idea who they were about to marry, the group of women had only pictures of the men that kept the empty idea of who they were about to spend the rest of their lives with and potentially start a new family. As a result, police discretion is a very important aspect of prosecuting juvenile crime, as it is clear that in some cases going to court should be the outcome for young offenders. However the role of discretion for police lies in being able to decide which cases and which circumstances warrant the result of court, as opposed to the multiple alternative forms of punishment that police have the power to enforce. A controversial aspect of the criminal justice system is the Crown s use of discretion when it decides to make charge negotiations. This means that the crown offers the accused a lesser charge should they plead guilty to it. In doing so, the crown benefits from the assured conviction (maintaining peace and security by an efficient means) and the accused benefits from a lesser sentence. We decide how our peers come to a conclusion about us. For example, why do people I am intelligent or why do people think that I am uneducated? We take what people say about us to heart. Which in turn makes us question ourselves. For example, I must be intelligent if others think so or I must be dumb if others think that I am uneducated. Goofman s dramaturgical model of interaction is similar to Cooley s looking glass self in that we are judged daily by our peers, that we care what others think of us and we try to modify ourselves so that we are able to give a good impression and not a bad one. • 45. The Military And Institutions Of Higher Education Background Throughout most of the wartime eras of the United States, there has been a symbiotic relation between the military and institutions of higher education. This relationship was precipitated by the Morrill Act of 1862, which provided grants of public land to states to establish institutions of higher learning to be operated in conjunction with state and federal governments (Renne, 1960). One particular focus of the land grant institutions was to focus on the teaching of military tactics. Considered an afterthought stipulation to the Morrill Act Legislation (Abrams, 1989, p. 16), this stipulation that required land grant institutions to offer military training as part of the curriculum would become pivotal in building the foundation for relationship between the military and institutes of higher education. The military training provision of the Morrill Act was perhaps undergirded by the nation s commitment to the notion of the citizen soldier versus the need for a standing army. Congressman Justin Morrill, the author of the legislation, thought it best to give young men the experience of being soldiers in colleges run by civilians versus the United States possibly creating a large professional military establishment (Abrams, 1989). In addition to citizen soldiers, the Morrill Act was aimed at educating the children of the working class and farmers (Renne, 1960). Such spirituals used call and response, a method of communication that was popular with slaves who brought African traditions to America, and gave way to the gospel music and unique form of preaching characteristic to the Black Church. The history of the Black Church, which began during the slave era, demonstrates the way that African Americans found refuge in Christianity, where the church became the center for African American communities (Baer). Born out of struggle and oppression, the Black Church not only became the focus for the religious practices of African American communities, but also worked to re member the community through rituals such as that of call and response, a core element of the Black Church which served as a powerful tool for the African American community in the fight for the exercise of true freedom in America. Since its formation, the Black Church worked as a center of resistance for the African American community towards a white dominant society (Baer). Once each group has agreed upon their responsibilities, the Team Lead will present the list to the Core Team. In the past, when this kind of information has been collected, the biggest concern expressed from all of the groups is the limited amount of time they have to complete their job efficiently. Their main concern is limited personnel and resources. This spreadsheet tracking process will present a work culture challenge in the way our teams approach their tasks. CORE TEAM REVIEWS EACH GROUP S DEFINITION OF DUTIES After each group has completed their list of tasks and timelines, the Core Team reviews the combined results. The Core Team s goal is to evaluate the lists, and incorporate them into the final spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will define the fundamental duties and timelines to complete for each group. The ultimate goal is to get the product to the customer within eight months. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The logical approach is to start to perform the design work in parallel across groups, when practical. This practice of concurrent engineering is commonly used by understaffed, schedule driven companies. Using this method, each group can be working on their portion of the design, without having to wait for the previous group to complete their portion. In the case of ASD facial recognition, experimenters use fMRI to look at the FFA levels of activation to compare to the TD control groups. A common methodology for exploring the concept of face emotion recognition in individuals with ASD is the comparing of brain activation in response to human faces compared to nonhuman faces or objects. A key aspect of social cognition is being able to look at someone s face and interprete how that individual is feeling. This is something that has been continuously found to be lacking in individuals with ASD. Multiple studies have been conducted using human emotions, the faces of animals, and inanimate objects such as houses. Whyte (2016) used animal faces an human faces to measure activity in the high functioning autism (HFA) brain compared to the TD brain. The fMRI scan results exhibited overall hypoactivation in the HFA individuals when compared to the TD control individuals. Another interesting discovery that has been found consistently is the the FHA/ASD individuals displayed higher activation in the facial functioning areas when viewing animals than human faces. When compared to the TD participants, the HFA individuals did not have any difference in the morphology of the brain structures under observation (Whyte, Behrmann, Minshew, Garcia, Scherf, 2016) The fact that a difference in activation was found without any difference in the ... Epithelial tissue Epithelial tissue subtypes The epithelial tissue covers inner and outer layer/surface of the body, e.g. the stomach, or blood lines, vessels and the lung. The epithelium consists of closely packed, flattened cells that make up the inside/ outside lining of body areas. Epithelial tissues that cover/line surfaces are classified by cell shape and by the number of cell layers, the image on the left is the subtypes of epithelial tissue; Squamous flattened cells, fried egg shape in appearance. The nucleus is flattened and centrally located. Because of their thin membrane and large surface area, it allows passage of small molecules e.g. air diffusion in the lungs. The function of simple squamous tissue is absorption excretion of gases lungs. And the function of stratified squamous is protection due to its many layers and is located in the outer layer of skin, oral cavity lining, esophagus, vaginal anal canal. Cuboidal cubed or squarish shaped, has a single nucleus located in the middle.
