Part 2 Of Advanced Counselling Skills Essay
Advanced Counselling Skills
For this part of the assignment I am using examples from a 50 minute session recorded within the
learning environment. I play the role of the counsellor, and another student plays the role of the client.
In order for me to answer the learning outcomes, I have watched the DVD recording.
2.1 Open the session, explaining the working agreement including the following:
What is on offer?
Limitations
Time boundaries
Ethical boundaries in line with professional code
What is on offer?
At the beginning of the session I introduced myself by first name to the client before outlining the

During the session I communicated to the client by saying things such as mmm and yes I hear you .
Minimal encourager s were used to demonstrate that I was listening to the client, without disturbing
her flow too much. I nodded my head on a couple of occasions which again showed the client that she
still had my attention. There was a brief moment of silence which I managed by acknowledging that
the silence provided a space for the client to think about what she had just said. At this point my
attention was on the client and I felt I gave her respect by not interrupting her thinking time as I
waited for her to begin talking again.
Empathic listening.
To demonstrate my empathy for the client I verbalised that I sense that this is difficult for you . and
felt her distress as she became emotional telling her story. Carl Rogers ( 1980 ) felt very passionately
about empathic listening. He states: Empathic listening means entering the private perceptual world of
the other. It involves being sensitive moment by moment to the changing felt meanings which flow in
the other person and temporarily living the others life without making judgements . ( Rogers, 1980.
p.142 ). In being empathic towards the client during the session I also was able to reassure her,
particularly when during the session she questioned her own capabilities.
Effective questioning

He has gotten to know Will, physically and at a emotional standpoint. Nathan describes Will s
situation as, There have been times when I ve stayed over and he s woken up screaming because in his
dreams he s still walking and skiing...He can t bear it...I can t judge him for what he wants to do. It s
his choice. It should be his choice (704). Nathan is able to understand the agonizing pain Will has

The Discipline Of Environmental History
Found within various articles and books, the discipline of environmental history permeates the study
of nature and humans. By combining a multitude of studies and methodologies, authors explore the
aspects of the environment and nature along with human interaction to understand how they
commingle, affecting one another. In the following four books and one article, scholars from varying
backgrounds approach environmental history in an assortment of methods in order to prove their
thesis. Their methodologies shape their thought process and lead to the structure of these books.
Further investigation into this process reveals the authors intentions, enabling readers to understand
how methodology fuels the writing process, creating an argument, and producing valuable work.
A strong cooperation lies at the heart of Lisa M. Brady s article entitled, Has Environmental History
Lost Its Way? and sets the tone for many of the following books. She reveals that in order to study
environmental history training in the field is not a requirement. Rather, a conglomeration of
backgrounds can provide insight into the study. Additionally, her article takes a materialistic approach,
suggesting that straying too far from this idea will lead to the breakdown of this study. While this
seems to be the foundation of her article, her ultimate goal is a juxtaposition between the previous
approach and the idea that expanding the field is vital in creating a contemporary narrative. By

The Top Five Coffee Shops Essay
Any Top List is always subjective, in my opinion. There will probably be people in my town of
Johnson City, Tennessee, who will disagree with the top 3 coffee shops that I have chosen. However, I
think that these three independent coffee shops, which are all quite different, are exceptionally good.
Beasley s Southern Bistro Beasley s Southern Bistro, located at 2203 McKinley Road in Johnson City
(locals will remember the building as the old Klopman Mills), moved from its location on South Roan
Street. It also changed its style a bit. The old Beasley s was known for its home cooking, which it still
offers; however, they have also expanded the menu and added some unique sandwiches (including a
lobster sub) and, of course, various types of coffees. My husband and I were frequent visitors to the
Beasley s on South Roan and have followed them to their new place. I loved their regular coffee at the
old location. I adore their vanilla cappuccino at the new location. There is nothing better than Eggs
Benedict for breakfast and a large cup of cappuccino. You can order other flavors and lattes, as well.
In addition, when you first walk into the old Klopman Mills, you will notice that it is being turned into
a large building full of dozens of spaces for offices or small retail establishments. Also, in the large
entryway, Beasley s has set up comfy couches and chairs in front of a large stone fireplace where you
can enjoy your coffee if you choose to skip the wonderful

Outline Of The Implementation Plan
Implementation Plan According to CDC, each year estimated about 250,000 cases of central line
associated bloodstream infection on happens in United States. The average cost of treatment of this
CLABSIs are 25,000 dollar per episode. CLABSI is the third most common health care associated

infection. Nurses are the key health care personnel work with Central lines at the bedside. Nurses play
a key role in assessment and prevention and management of these lines to avoid infection. Nurses
working with lines must be educated on the importance of infection prevention and held to a high
standard on infection control. The most important step to avoid or decrease the central line associated
infection is to develop and implement the Central line bundle. Central bundle is considered as the
guidelines for central line insertion and maintenance. The guidelines consist of maximal barrier

Ballet Slippers Research Paper
Ballet Slippers Culture is the overview of how a group of people live, their beliefs and moral system,
and basic things such as how they dress. Culture is subjective, no two people see it the same way. I
may see Scottish culture as a group of people who wear kilts and play bagpipes, but someone else may
think it involves red hair and haggis. Culture is often made up of stereotypes, for example: someone
may believe that Canadian culture is igloos, pet polar bears, apologizing, and saying eh after every
word. In reality Canadian culture from the perspective of someone living in it includes: different
religions, holding the door for someone behind you, and wearing a tuque in winter. There are multiple
layers of culture, the blanket term; usually referring to the country or main region in which you live.
Culture can then be broken down into many sub categories such as: ... Show more content on

Ballet started in Italian Renaissance, but spread through Europe and made it s way into North

dance. Television shows such as So You Think You Can Dance , and America s Got Talent showcase

because of it s classical nature, but as boring or old fashioned it may seem it often is the basics for
most styles of dance. It is one of the most technically challenging, and ballerinas are some of the most

A current problem impacting the island of tonga is the destruction of coral reef. One solution to this
problem is to put guard towers to watch people or higher more DLNR (department of land and natural

This shows that if we do not take action and do something about it like hire more DLNR workers we
may as well kiss the reefs goodbye. According to coral reef: threats/ wwf the text states Roughly one
quarter of coral reefs worldwide are already considered damaged beyond repair, with another two
thirds under serious threat. This shows that hiring more DLNR is needed because they can watch to

Social Benefits Of Physical Education Essay
The social emotional, cognitive and physical benefits of physical activity
During childhood our body and mind changes very fast. I believe that nowadays parents focus more
on the brain developement of their children than their physical activity. When I was a little girl over 20
years ago we spent most of our time outside playing, running and enjoying fresh air and being in
movement. Physical activity of children can secure them health and well being in their adulthood as
well as teach them a lot of very importants aspects like social relations and behaviors in different
situations.
Now I see that a lot of children spend their time at home or at after school activities that don t involve
a lot of movement. According to Child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Types and contexts of activities are variable and change with age during childhood and adolescence.
Activities of children aged 6 to 9 years are largely anaerobic (as in non sustained activities or games
such as tag ), and they help the child learn basic and more specialized motor skills. As youth move
into the pubertal transition (about age 10 14 years, earlier in girls than in boys), these skills are
incorporated into a variety of individual and group activities and many organized sports. Mature
structure and function are approached or attained in late adolescence (age 15 18 years), so that
physical activity programs can be more structured.
Physical activity has not only physical benefits. It also has a very big impact on social emotional and
cognitive aspects of child s live. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention The
development of a physically active lifestyle is a goal for all children. Traditional team and competitive
sports may promote healthy activity for selected youth. Individual sports, noncompetitive sports,
lifetime sports, and recreational activities expand the opportunity for activity to everyone. The
opportunity to be active on a regular basis, as well as the enjoyment and competence gained from
activity, may increase the chances that a physically active lifestyle will be adopted.
Team sports for example not only provide physical activity for children. They also introduce them to
the meaning of teamwork and ability

How UK Inflation Indexed Gilts Are Priced
How UK inflation indexed gilts are priced? There are two methodologies are used in calculating cash
flows for inflation indexed gilts because gilts have two indexation lags depending on when they were
first launched. Eight month lag Linkers An eight month indexation lag is applied to the calculation for
the gilts which were first issued before 2005. The payments on these bonds use the inflation data eight
months previously. The adjusted rate of return is based on the nominal rate of return and the RPI
adjustment, where the nominal rate of return is fixed and the RPI adjustment varies. Two RPI figures
are required to calculate inflation adjustment: one is base RPI figure that concerns the first issue date
of the gilt; the other figure is the RPI applicable to the interest payment date. An example is given as
follows to illustrate how this methodology is applied. Example: 4⅛% inflation indexed gilts 2030,
which was first issued in June 1992 and the relative base RPI is 135.1 (the RPI for October 1991). In
order to gain the rate of interest paid in January 1998, the RPI figures for previous May and November
in 1998 are also required. The interest rate of return is as follows: 4.125/2×((RPI for May 1997)/(RPI
for Oct 1991)) =4.125/2×(156.9/135.1)=2.3953 For the redemption payment per £100 nominal of this
bond on maturity is calculated in similar way: 100×((RPI for Nov 2029)/(RPI for Oct 1991)) Three
month lag Linkers All the inflation indexed gilts issued from 2005

Homelessness In King Lear
Vagrancy Homelessness is just as big a problem today as it was when Shakespeare wrote King Lear.
Many people have an indifferent attitude towards the penniless, believing that it is their fault they are
in the situation in the first place. Shakespeare questions this notion. At the start of King Lear, Lear and
Gloucester are both unconcerned about the homeless and even subject their kin to a state of removal
from society. However, their attitudes change when they both experience wretchedness for themselves
and they develop empathy for the destitute. This empathy is not visible when Lear, outraged by
Cordelia s response to his question renounces her as his daughter. Lear says disgustedly I disclaim all

Rights of Man Essay
Rights of Man
The identity of a society is verified through the rights which are given to the citizens. The rights of
man have been at many different standards throughout time. Often being very one sided, and at times
striving for a median between the two sides. In Edmund Burke s essay Reflections on the Revolution
in France Burke states that a king is in one sense a servant but in everyday situations they are above
every individual. All persons under him owe him a legal agreement to serve his hopes. This essay will
demonstrate why Thomas Paine s essay The Rights of Man is more convincing than Edmund Burke s
through examination of a heredity government, the nature of rights and the uselessness of the
monarchy.

All individuals of the state should have say in selecting an individual to represent him and everyone
else.
Paine states that rights by nature cannot be granted. He supports this by saying that if rights are
granted then they can be revoked, and if they can be revoked then they can be considered privileges,
not rights. He claims that they should not be an agreement between the living and the dead, but the
sole benefit of the entire constituent of these two groups. This is a very good argument on Paine s
behalf. For if rights leaned to the deceased side then the living will be sold short on what they are
deserved. On the other hand, if it supported the other side, we would be excluding the necessary
component of tradition and example. Without the component of precedents and tradition, legitimacy
would be lost. The rights are constantly changing through time. Rights which are appropriate in one
decade do not necessarily mean it is applicable in the next. Mans morals and expectations of each
other change drastically through history. So how is it possible to accept a forever binding right? Rights
are often looked upon as rewards for abiding to the regulations set out by the higher party. In my mind
rights are not earned, but they are rather an extension of our social contract. Rights must be applicable
to all individuals.

The Use Of Gunpowder And Firearms Triggered The Decline Of...
Military speaking, it is often stated that the introducing of gunpowder and firearms triggered the
decline of chivalry. Richard Kaeuper, on the contrary, explains that this improved military technology
may be too abrupt, for who would not be reluctant to sign a specific, dated death warrant to mark the
end of [chivalry, which is] so persistent and so complex. 1 Moreover, it is not the first time that
knights had to adapt to new military techniques. For instance, during the Hundred Year War (1337
1453) that opposed the French and English kingdoms, French knights were slaughtered by English
crossbowmen during the battle of Agincourt in 1415. The French traditional model of the knight
fighting with his sword was no longer sufficient to win a battle. Even before that, the English took on
the chevauchée, a tactic based on raids to rampage the countryside and thus burn the villages and
crops to prevent troops food supplies and also demoralizing the population. In response to that, the
French used a similar technique of deployment of a small troop for precised raids. So, seeing knights
military contribution as something constant and unchanging is incorrect. Consequently, knights could
perfectly make use of gunpowder or still be valuable as leaders of troops, especially since Charny
already valued knights who are entrusted with the command of men at arms to lead them in combat as
captains, constables, and marshals or in other offices concerned with the direction of the

Nobody wanted to talk to you or congratulate you sometimes not even your family. So a lotta guys got
rid of their uniforms, threw em in the closet and went on with their lives. A lot of em are still trying to
get their lives together today (Sherr 22). Veterans were not thanked for their service and many are
looked down upon by their participation in the Vietnam War. This treatment had a huge impact of the
Vietnam veterans and their families. Pervis Crowe reflects upon this in Vietnam: Homecoming. If we
d come home in different circumstances than we did, my life wouldn t be the way it is now. Body: The
scenes in New York City of soldiers returning from World War II have been remembered for decades.
The huge parades, the confetti flying through the streets, and couples embracing were reflective of the
gratitude the country encompassed for soldiers returning from World War II (Crowe, Pervis et al.). The
country as a whole was very appreciative of the services of these soldiers. Laif Maseng, a World War
II veteran said that his return from World War II was not quite like the vibrant scenes in New York

Analysis Of The Last Man By Thomas Campbell Essay
The Encompassing of Solitude and the Manifesting of a Post Apocalyptic Prediction The Earth s
apparent boundary between tangible existence and conceptual objectives consequently ignites
curiosity throughout humanity, while the beckoning of man kind s search for reason throughout the
unexplained components of life, thus, has become inevitable. In contrasting demeanor, some
individual beings have lavished in the comfort that is granted to them through faith and religion. The
repression of one s inquisitive behavior reaps growth in acceptance of trivial mysteries regarding life.
Likely, human reactions to genuine solitude vary and are ultimately subjective in accordance to each
human s differing perception. Debuting during the Revolutionary era in literature, The Last Man by
Thomas Campbell embraced societal speculation, and provided interesting documentation that
regarded the termination of the human race. The narrator of Campbell s poem, who presumably lacks
the mortal conditions of the human species, garners a pessimistic outlook upon the forced separation
between he and all mortal beings. Opposing Campbell s dreary attitudes on the topic, Wordsworth
delivered a speaker within his poem titled I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud who insistently, and gleefully
observed and portrayed nature from an area of chosen detachment. Within these poems, Wordsworth
and Campbell centralized the concept of the complete isolation of man from all but the nature that
surrounds him. In

National Apology Case Study
A landmark event for Aboriginal People s struggle for rights is February 13, 2008, when in Federal
Parliament the then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd stood up to apologise to the Aboriginal People, for
Australia s past mistreatment on laws, policies and practices that effected the people of the stolen
generation (Welch, 2008 and National Sorry Day Committee, 2014). Aboriginal People have struggled
for rights since the British came to Australia but it was especially highlighted when the Aborigines Act
1905 came out. There were multiple things that lead to this landmark event, though the Bringing them
Home Report in 1997 was a huge step in helping the apology to come about (National Sorry Day
Committee, 2014). This essay will discuss in more depth what led to this event, what the goals of the
apology were, what the outcomes were and the ongoing impact has resulted.

Eminent Domain Purposes
1. When does a taking occur for eminent domain purposes? Refer to the Lucas case. Eminent domain
refers to the inherent power of the state to take or seize the private property of its individual citizens.
Property taken through eminent domain is mainly set aside for the development of public utilities or
assigned to a third party who is then supposed to use it for the general good of the public (Larson,
2004).
There are generally four types of takings employed by the state through eminent domain. These are:
a. Complete Taking This is where the state seizes an entire property in for public use. In the case of
Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council (1992), the plaintiff was entitled to compensation as a result
of the complete taking of his land. However the Supreme Court denied him any compensation stating
that the restriction imposed on the use of the land was in the interest of the general public due to the
intended use of the land. Therefore the Takings Clause does not apply in this case in spite of the
economic benefits lost incurred as a result of the complete taking of his property.
b. Partial Taking The state in this case takes a portion of a particular property mainly for the expansion
of the existing utilities. The owner of the property is liable for compensation in regard to the piece of
land seized and any resulting decline in the value of the remaining property.
c. Temporary Taking The government may require a piece of land to be used as a site when

establish that everyone is subjected to the law including the king. The text was written around the time

The Magna Carta stands as a start point for the freedom of speech, expression, and representation. The

Gibbons V. Ogden. Gibbons
Gibbons v. Ogden Gibbons v. Ogden was a landmark decision in which the United States Supreme
Court held that power to regulate interstate commerce. It was given to congress by the commerce
clause of the constitution. It was led by Chief Justice John Marshall. The debate in Gibbons concerned
contending cases of adversary steamship establishments. The condition of New York gave Aaron
Ogden a select permit to work steamboat ships between New Jersey and New York City on the
Hudson River. Thomas Gibbons, another steamboat administrator, ran two ships along the same
course. Ogden looked for an order against Gibbons in a New York state court, asserting that the state
had issued him elite rights to work the course. Accordingly, Gibbons guaranteed he had the privilege
to work on the course in accordance with a 1793 demonstration of Congress directing waterfront
business. The New York court found for Ogden and requested Gibbons to stop working his
steamships; on bid, the New York Supreme Court avowed the request. Gibbons spoke to the U.S.
Preeminent Court, which surveyed the case in 1824. John Marshall ruled for Gibbons, holding that
New York s selective award to Ogden disregarded the government authorizing demonstration of 1793.
In coming to its choice, the Court deciphered the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution
surprisingly. The proviso peruses that Congress should have energy to manage trade among the few
States. According to the Court, trade included articles in

Throgs Neck in the Movie Summer of Same Directed by Spike Lee
If you have ever heard or watched the movie Summer of Sam, an American crime movie directed by
Spike Lee in 1999 than you would know filming took place in a Bronx neighborhood called Throgs
Neck. In fact, I have recently discovered that filming took place right on my block. Located in the
Northwestern part of the Bronx, from what I have observed Throgs Neck is manly a one to two family
suburb area with the exception of some apartment buildings. Throgs Neck has many events throughout
the year, known for its parades such as the annual St. Patrick s Parade and the Veterans Day Parade,

arguing whether or not Throgs Neck has two GG s or one. The name Throgs Neck originally comes
from an English man named John Throckmorton who was able to stay as the Dutch had allowed him
to, in 1642. Ultimately, the American Indians drove out the Dutch. By the 19th century, land and
developers started to appear. Many landowner sold their properties to developers. Shortly after private
homes started to appear. An interesting fact about Throgs Neck is that it was once a summer resort that
would explain why as of today beach clubs are still open; many of them have been around for over 50
years now. A historical event in the neighborhood of Throgs Neck was in 1961 when the Throgs Neck
Bridge was finally completed. Few Throgs Neck homes, including three rental apartment buildings
and Throgs Neck Houses, one of the Bronx s first low income city projects, are more than seven
blocks from a bay, creek inlet, or river. Because the waterfront is so accessible, many families belong
to one or more small beach and fishing clubs along Shore Drive and Clarence Avenue (Dolan 1984).

Overall, many of them have said they weren t able to deal with the stress of life and college. This was
strange to hear due to the fact that these were people who I knew. People who I had seen excel in high

Deciding Between Olympics or Baseball for My Reasearch Paper
Deciding on a topic for my multi genre English project was harder than I had expected. Considering
how much information is available, different viewpoints of the issue and whether or not the subject
would be interesting enough made finalizing a topic difficult for me. I narrowed my choices down to
the Olympic Games or Major League Baseball, as I have a strong interest in sports, especially
baseball. While researching the Olympics, I was able to find plenty of information. When I first

From there, I simplified my searches into more narrow areas, such as the history of Major League
Baseball, steroids in the MLB and spring training for Major League Baseball. These subtopics gave
me fewer results, averaging in the 50 million range. With this many results for the narrowed topics,
taking different view points in each paper to the broader topic would be easy. Using the same database
as I did for the Olympics, EBSCO, I was able to find almost 26,000 results for Major League
Baseball. The subcategories resulted in fewer sources, around 1,000 each. Google Scholar also offered
a sufficient amount of sources, about 1 million for Major League Baseball in general, and around
40,000 for each narrowed search. Both the database results and Google Scholar results provided me
with more educated writings and information on Major League Baseball than that of Google. Again,
eBooks seemed to be the most logical answer to finding print sources on Major League Baseball. I
was able to find over 100 eBooks, on one site alone, with information regarding Major League
Baseball. The information I found on Major League Baseball was interesting and ample. Using the
sources I found while researching the topic would lead to a well written multi genre project. After
considering many topics for my multi genre English project, I was able to narrow it down to the

Ridesharing companies claims that with their programs such as Uberpool and Lyft Line, it can actually
be beneficial for the environment. As the name implies, Uberpool is a carpooling method based on
splitting fares with people going to the same place as you. It s environmentally efficient by having less
cars on the road because it reduces single rider fares, resulting in less harmfull emissions (Uber).
According to Amanda Eaken, a director of transportation and climate at the National Resource
Defense Council, 40 percent of emissions in California is from transportation. Additionally, along with
the main ideas from A Struggle to Govern the Commons, more emissions raise the atmospheric
concentrations of CO2, a known greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. So with this,
UberPool and Lyft Line may actually make an effect on helping the environment. However there are
limitations to this, it is not currently based by any research, just a theoretical hypothesis. Fortunately,
some scientific research is on the way. Eaken, along with Professor Susan Shaheen from UC Berkeley
s Transportation Sustainability Research Center, is creating a scientific study on the true

Summary Of All Summer In A Day
All Summer In A Day by Ray Bradbury is a short story about a girl named Margot and her experiences
on the planet Venus. Margot moved to Venus from Earth when she was 4 years old, old enough to
remember the sun. On Venus, the sun only comes out every 7 years for a couple hours, other than this,
it s always raining. The other children on this planet bullied Margot, they were mean to her because
she could remember the sun, and they didn t. One lesson the story suggests is that when you don t
think about your actions, it can lead to regret and guilt.
Throughout the story, the children were jealous of Margot and bullied her. Bradbury says, They surged
about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a
tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed and locked the door. They stood looking at the door and
saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. They heard her muffled cries. Then,
smiling, they turned and went out and back down the tunnel, just as the teacher arrived. This
paragraph illustrates how mean the children were to Margot and how they acted so quickly without
really thinking about what they were doing. When the children did this they acted out of jealousy and
hurt Margot, without even knowing it. This is a reason why you should always think before you say or
do something; sometimes we can get wrapped up in our own jealousy and hurt someone.
After the the children hurt Margot they felt terrible and guilty. In the story it states They stood as if
someone had driven them like so many stakes, into the floor. They looked at each other and then
looked away...They could not meet each other s glances. Their faces were solemn and pale. These
couple short sentences tell us how the children looked after they remembered Margot, by knowing
this, we know how they felt. Before, all of the children teamed up and shoved her in a closet, then the
sun came out and they had a great time playing outside together. After 2 hours the sun was gone again
and the children finally remember about Margot, when this happened each of them felt tremendously
guilty. This a a reason why you should always be kind to others, because no matter what you will hurt

opportunity seems to lie in consumers behavior. They only consider ice cream as an on the go snack.
Ice Fili should use all possible means to create a change in their way of consumption. It would be

families eat them at home. To achieve that Ice Fili will highlight its main asset: the fact that their ice

Classical Vs Operant Conditioning Essay
Exam 2
1. What is the difference between classical and operant conditioning? How might both play roles in
the life of an animal in a natural environment? The classical conditioning is when an animal learns the
relation between an event, that it has no control over, with a beneficial consequence. In operant
conditioning, the animal learns the association between an action, or situation that it has control over,
in order to produce a beneficial consequence, such as a reward. Both these two associative learning
behaviors can be relevant to the animal in the wild. In the classical conditioning, for example, if a
predator animal that learns how to associate the sunset with the appearance of prey has more chance to
survive. In the operant conditioning, an animal can learn how to gather a food resource by performing
a determinate behavior. For example, if the animal knock on a specific tree, the prey would appear.

The food aversion is normally caused by a very strong discomfort, bad taste, nausea, and vomiting.
The nervous system learns to correlate the discomfort feeling with the food ingested, and store it in the

because the nausea is right after eating the food, and it needs to happen only one time to be learned, so
the correlation is instantly and do not need repetition. This behavior can shape the diet of animals in

Green And Social Responsibility For Global Warming
Nowadays, people are becoming increasingly aware of environmental protection. Going green is a
term used to refer to a series of process aimed at embracing an environmental and ecologically
friendly lifestyle while at the same time adhering to legal and social norms aimed at practicing the
environments and natural resources. The adoption of gen strategies by governments and most industry
players is informed by the adverse effects of climate change that continue to increase the costs of
production while at the same time accelerating environmental degradation. Currently, the world has
put more emphasis on going green and embracing socially responsible approaches. The rising costs of
climate change and the debilitating effects of global warming have been the main reasons for the
vibrant state of going green and socially responsibility conventions in the world. Startling statics about
climate change have informed the need to embrace sustainable approaches in business and governance
as a way of mitigation. To justify the vibrant state of going green and social responsibility in the world
today, one has to revisit the grim statics associate with global warming (Stewart, 2014). Studies have
revealed that at least 45 percent of the world s population is adversely affected by climate change. The
effects of this global phenomenon are evenly distributed across all the continents of the world. From
Australia to Texas, droughts are systematically becoming common environmental phenomena.

PORTFOLIO ANALYSIS
INTRODUCTION Organizations market a mix of products or services or both. These constitute the
offering that is made through the strategic window. Central to the success or failure of a business is the
health of its product (or service) mix. A starting point is the product life cycle concept. This is a useful
conceptual framework within which to study how firms can vary their marketing strategies though of
course as we shall see in later chapters they do have to take other factors into account. There seems to
be little doubt, however, that at different stages in the product life cycle certain marketing strategies
seem to be more appropriate than others. The life cycle concept also points to the different ... Show

One problem that has been found in trying to make use of the product life cycle concept as a
management tool is that many products do not appear to perform in the market place as it suggests.
They seem to bypass some stages while getting stuck at other stages. Moreover, they may even come
into vogue again after a period of going out of fashion. These observations have brought about
criticisms of the product life cycle as a useful planning tool.
EXHIBIT 2.1 SWANSEA ENGINEERING DIFFICULTIES IN USING THE PRODUCT LIFE
CYCLE CONCEPT Swansea Engineering makes wire for industrial uses. Applications range from
wire for cables to carry high voltage electricity to wire for winding on small electric motors for
incorporation in both industrial and domestic products. The firm has tried to use the life cycle concept
to explain generic sales in the market and sales of its own products. Difficulties encountered include
the defining of product markets and the separation from natural growth and decline in the market and
the effects of recession. Indeed in recent years it has proved extremely difficult to assess exactly
where many products and markets are in relationship to their anticipated life cycles. Ironing out the
fluctuations caused by economic recessions and mini booms causes one of the major problems. In

Osteoporosis is a generalized, progressive diminution of bone tissue mass per unit volume, causing
skeletal weakness, even though the ratio of mineral to organic elements is unchanged in the remaining
morphologically normal bone. Histologically there is a reduction in cortical thickness and in the
number and size of the trabeculae of cancellous bone, normal width of the osteoid seams. Bone
reabsorption is increased, bone formation appears to be normal but be defective. The major clinical
manifestations of osteoporosis are bone fractures. The most common form of metabolic bone disease

Heroic Qualities Of Odysseus
Homer s epic poem The Odyssey begins by painting Odysseus as a brave and powerful leader and an
impulsive decision maker who over time becomes more intelligent; Homer develops these relatable
and heroic characteristics through detailed imagery and word choice as well as through symbols and
homeric similes which amplify the representation of Odysseus as a normal person as well as a heroic
figure. Odysseus s tendency to succumb to impulsive strokes of curiosity enables readers to relate with
his inner character. The protagonist gives into the natural human curiosity to find and fix one s
weakness. Circe tells him of the sirens who know the secrets of Odysseus s weakness, she also tells
him that listening to their knowledge is unwise and he along with his crew should close their ears.
However, in his impulsivity, Odysseus actually tells his crew to force him to listen while they cover
their ears. Odysseus also shows his impulses in regards to thirst for knowledge when he sends two
scouts to explore the land of the Lotus Eaters, knowing full well that their chance of return is unlikely.
This quest for knowledge could have been in a slower, but more logical and effective way. This shows
how Odysseus can easily succumb to less logical ideas if it is a question of his power or knowledge.
Another constant in his early story is his portrayal as a daring and fearless figure, often taking control
and triumphing over potential threats. Odysseus witnesses two of his shipmates be

The History Of Moby Dick
The History of Moby Dick
On October 8th, 1851, the book Moby Dick written by Herman Melville was published, which be later
be considered a Great American Epic. Melville before he was a writer took an a few odd occupations,
including a banker, a teacher, and a whaler for about 5 years. On his voyages he heard many tales, one
about a peculiar and catastrophic incident involving a certain whaling boat. Moby Dick based off of
this tale, telling a story of a young man called Ishmael signs up to work on the ship the Pequad . The
ship was captained by a strict, crazy man called Ahab, who would stop at nothing to kill Moby Dick,
the white whale. At first, Moby Dick was poorly received. At first people hated it, a considered it to be
one of Melville s worst books. It wasn t considered a Great American Epic until after Melville s death.
Today however, Moby Dick has been influential to other writers and literary topics, such as movies.
One popular movie, not based off of Moby Dick but it s true story, about Captain Pollard and his first
mate Owen Chase, The Heart of the Sea stands out among the others. The Heart of the Sea was
produced by Ron Howard, who says he wanted to create a Moby Dick movie, but instead told the
actual story the book was based off of. The Heart of the Sea , is about the true story of Moby Dick ,
about a whale that attacks Captain Pollard s ship the Essex , sinking it and leaving the crew members
stranded with three lifeboats, little food,

The Discovery Of Cells And The Cell Theory
The cell. The most basic form of life, and yet the most complex structure Mother Nature has to offer.
For hundreds of years, man has tried to crack its codes, to try and find what makes it tick; but it seems
that the deeper we go into the study of cells, the more questions appear too. The purpose of this entire
essay is to educate my readers on cells, our discovery of cells and the cell theory, where we believe
they first appeared, and how we have learned to manipulate cells to cure diseases like cancer. I will
also talk about how our knowledge of cells has changed our medicine and agriculture, and how ethnic
some of these changes are. But first, let us talk about the discovery of cells and the cell theory. Robert
Hooke, an english scientist, was the man who first discovered the cell in 1665, proof being a book he
released at that time called Micrographia. In this book, Hooke gave 60 observations of random objects
under a compound microscope with a magnification of 30x. Because of this, he was not able to see the
internal structures in the cell, like nuclei and vacuoles, and what he proclaimed to be cells were just
empty cell walls of plant tissues. He shared his observations with The English Royal Society, until
they started receiving letters from a scientist named Anton van Leeuwenhoek. The letters stated that
Anton made use of a microscope containing improved lenses that magnified objects up to 275x,
enough to identify the living parts of a cell. He kept on sending

Drowning Anna Mayfield Summary
I read the book Drowning Anna by Sue Mayfield this past week. I have to say, it s one of the best
books I ve ever read. The book has a really cool format. It constantly switches from the past, to the
present, and through journal entries made by Anna Goldsmith, a 16 year old girl who takes a drug
overdose. Her mom reads her journal while sitting next to her in her hospital bed, waiting for her to
come out of the coma she s currently in. There are a couple reasons Anna tried to kill herself, but
mainly one: Hayley Parkin. When Anna first moved to the new school, her and Hayley were best
friends. They were inseparable. Hayley s family was rich so every holiday they flew to some beach or
some private island and invited Anna half the time. They sat by ... Show more content on

As soon as Melanie heard what Anna had done, she felt terrible, they had just had a fight the day
before and was supposed to be shopping today, and having a sleepover. Anna and Tom rode the bus
together to the hospital. Anna s dad was a doctor at the hospital, so the whole family gathered in Anna
s room, and Melanie ran to Hayley s house to give her the letter. For the first time in forever, Melanie
almost felt bad for Hayley. Hayley read the letter thinking that she didn t mean to make Anna kill
herself, she meant for it to be one huge joke. Melanie left and ran back to the hospital. Back at the
hospital Anna went into V Fib, which is when your heart basically has a seizure starts shaking
uncontrollably, and doing nothing but shaking. They had to use defibrillators. At the end of the book,
the dad tells the family Anna is going to be all right. And that s the end of the book. I loved this book,

Ethics And The Separation Of Law And Morals
Law and morality work together to guide our behavior; while law does it by punishing us if we do
something wrong, morality does it through incentives. In their articles, both H.L.A Hart in Positivism
and the Separation of Law and Morals, and Lon Fuller s reply to professor Hart in Positivism and
Fidelity to Law, discuss the concept of law post world war II Germany and their re imagining of
natural law as put forth by Gustav Radbruch s theory. In this paper, I hope to show how both law and
morality is needed to create just rules, more specifically drawing from the grudge informer case
mentioned in Hart s article. First, I will explain the dilemma of the grudge informer case and the
contradicting theory laid down by Radbrunch s. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her defense was that she acted according to the law of that time and had not committed any crime.
Hart agrees with her defense, saying that we should now applaud ourselves for punishing her for her
immoral actions because she adhered to the laws of her time, and was at that time not doing anything
wrong. Contradicting his view is Radbrunch s, who argued that extreme injustice is no law, meaning
that a particular social standard can lose its legal validity when it is extremely unjust. Hart, a legal
positivist, believes that law is law, and argued against Radbrunch s theory in servings as a solution to
fix Germany s judicial system. He argued against his theory and wanted a separation of law and
morality because he thought that it would only cloak the true nature of the problems, and encourage a
romantic optimism, rather than addressing the dilemma that the courts had in deciding on convicting
Nazi criminals. Though Hart acknowledges that this case poses a difficult situation for the law, he
does propose his own solution to the problem. With his positivist approach to the law, saying that the
laws are the rules expected of us, and enforced at a particular time, he proposes that the grudge
informer should be punished through a different and new set of laws. These laws he deems
retrospective laws, would entail punishing acts such as revenge and duplicity. However, this dilemma
between choosing if the grudge informer was innocent

Depleted Uranium Research Paper
Overview
Depleted uranium, referred here as DU, is a by product of the naturally produced element uranium, a
member of the periodic table. Exposure to DU is commonly talked about by almost everyone in the
military spending time out of the wire, however, not limited to only those combat service members.
Uranium History and Beginning Risks
Before going straight in on the subject of DU, it would be appropriate to explain it s parent. Uranium
goes back many centuries. According to Briner (2010), Uranium assisted the Germans in the creation
of certain textiles and paint in the 1500s. Miners were needed to retrieve this element and over time
lung cancer set in the miners due to radioactive dust from uranium (p. 304). Later in time, the United
States took interest in uranium. According to Brugge Goble (2002), it was in 1948 the uranium mining
boom started exposing people to radiation dust leading to lung cancer, similar situation to Germany.
DU and the Idea
DU is the waste product of Uranium and serves many advantages to the military. According to Briner
(2010), The Gulf War in 1990 began the introduction of DU in munitions and armor. DU provided a
massive advantage over enemy armored vehicles and oppositely, DU armor protected US military
vehicles from enemy munitions (p. 304 305). However, the application of DU is ... Show more content

uranium (p. iii). Studies show the inhalation of DU is the most dangerous type of exposure. Intake via
food and water would be the next. It would be intersting to know that DU will not pass through skin
and infect the body (p. iv). While DU has risks, it also acts as a safety curtain. DU acts as a radiation

Putting An End Of Mass Criminalization
Putting an End to Mass Criminalization A police officer is a law enforcement official whose job is to
protect and serve the people, not to abuse their power. Due to the fact that the U.S is consisted of
many different races and ethnic groups, the ongoing conflict between police officers and citizens of
color is at a constant rise. Although policies today no longer directly target those of colors, the policies
applied by law enforcements in African Americans communities are discriminating. Officers
sometimes abuse the policies resulting in citizens viewing it as discrimination. By changing the way
laws and regulations that unfairly impact Black and Brown communities can improve the justice
system (Policy 5).Racial impact has changed the view of the government resulting in more inclusion
of people of color in the system. Policies that are not racially excluding anyone of color should be
used within police departments to evaluate the impact of different policing.
Many states use racial equity tools to make budget, policy, and program decisions. Changing the way
policies are will ensure racial equality in communities and end structural racism along with achieve
racial equity. By clarifying policies and putting them in place like the one in Seattle, where they ended
the use of criminal background checks in employment decisions because of the unfair impact it had on
men of different races, will help end mass criminalization (RSJI). From unnecessary searches,
chokeholds and even

I play the role of the counsellor, and another student plays the role of the client. In order for me to answer the learning outcomes, I have watched the DVD recording. 2.1 Open the session, explaining the working agreement including the following: What is on offer? Limitations Time boundaries Ethical boundaries in line with professional code What is on offer? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the session I communicated to the client by saying things such as mmm and yes I hear you . Minimal encourager s were used to demonstrate that I was listening to the client, without disturbing her flow too much. I nodded my head on a couple of occasions which again showed the client that she still had my attention. There was a brief moment of silence which I managed by acknowledging that the silence provided a space for the client to think about what she had just said. At this point my attention was on the client and I felt I gave her respect by not interrupting her thinking time as I waited for her to begin talking again. Empathic listening. To demonstrate my empathy for the client I verbalised that I sense that this is difficult for you . and felt her distress as she became emotional telling her story. Carl Rogers ( 1980 ) felt very passionately about empathic listening. He states: Empathic listening means entering the private perceptual world of the other. It involves being sensitive moment by moment to the changing felt meanings which flow in the other person and temporarily living the others life without making judgements . ( Rogers, 1980. p.142 ). In being empathic towards the client during the session I also was able to reassure her, particularly when during the session she questioned her own capabilities. • 4. The Discipline Of Environmental History Found within various articles and books, the discipline of environmental history permeates the study of nature and humans. By combining a multitude of studies and methodologies, authors explore the aspects of the environment and nature along with human interaction to understand how they commingle, affecting one another. In the following four books and one article, scholars from varying backgrounds approach environmental history in an assortment of methods in order to prove their thesis. Their methodologies shape their thought process and lead to the structure of these books. Further investigation into this process reveals the authors intentions, enabling readers to understand how methodology fuels the writing process, creating an argument, and producing valuable work. A strong cooperation lies at the heart of Lisa M. Brady s article entitled, Has Environmental History Lost Its Way? and sets the tone for many of the following books. She reveals that in order to study environmental history training in the field is not a requirement. Rather, a conglomeration of backgrounds can provide insight into the study. Additionally, her article takes a materialistic approach, suggesting that straying too far from this idea will lead to the breakdown of this study. While this seems to be the foundation of her article, her ultimate goal is a juxtaposition between the previous approach and the idea that expanding the field is vital in creating a contemporary narrative. • 5. The Top Five Coffee Shops Essay Any Top List is always subjective, in my opinion. There will probably be people in my town of Johnson City, Tennessee, who will disagree with the top 3 coffee shops that I have chosen. However, I think that these three independent coffee shops, which are all quite different, are exceptionally good. Beasley s Southern Bistro Beasley s Southern Bistro, located at 2203 McKinley Road in Johnson City (locals will remember the building as the old Klopman Mills), moved from its location on South Roan Street. It also changed its style a bit. The old Beasley s was known for its home cooking, which it still offers; however, they have also expanded the menu and added some unique sandwiches (including a lobster sub) and, of course, various types of coffees. My husband and I were frequent visitors to the Beasley s on South Roan and have followed them to their new place. I loved their regular coffee at the old location. I adore their vanilla cappuccino at the new location. There is nothing better than Eggs Benedict for breakfast and a large cup of cappuccino. You can order other flavors and lattes, as well. In addition, when you first walk into the old Klopman Mills, you will notice that it is being turned into a large building full of dozens of spaces for offices or small retail establishments. Also, in the large entryway, Beasley s has set up comfy couches and chairs in front of a large stone fireplace where you can enjoy your coffee if you choose to skip the wonderful ... • 7. Ballet Slippers Research Paper Ballet Slippers Culture is the overview of how a group of people live, their beliefs and moral system, and basic things such as how they dress. Culture is subjective, no two people see it the same way. I may see Scottish culture as a group of people who wear kilts and play bagpipes, but someone else may think it involves red hair and haggis. Culture is often made up of stereotypes, for example: someone may believe that Canadian culture is igloos, pet polar bears, apologizing, and saying eh after every word. In reality Canadian culture from the perspective of someone living in it includes: different religions, holding the door for someone behind you, and wearing a tuque in winter. I believe that nowadays parents focus more on the brain developement of their children than their physical activity. When I was a little girl over 20 years ago we spent most of our time outside playing, running and enjoying fresh air and being in movement. Physical activity of children can secure them health and well being in their adulthood as well as teach them a lot of very importants aspects like social relations and behaviors in different situations. Types and contexts of activities are variable and change with age during childhood and adolescence. Activities of children aged 6 to 9 years are largely anaerobic (as in non sustained activities or games such as tag ), and they help the child learn basic and more specialized motor skills. As youth move into the pubertal transition (about age 10 14 years, earlier in girls than in boys), these skills are incorporated into a variety of individual and group activities and many organized sports. Mature structure and function are approached or attained in late adolescence (age 15 18 years), so that physical activity programs can be more structured. Physical activity has not only physical benefits. It also has a very big impact on social emotional and cognitive aspects of child s live. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention The development of a physically active lifestyle is a goal for all children. Traditional team and competitive sports may promote healthy activity for selected youth. Individual sports, noncompetitive sports, lifetime sports, and recreational activities expand the opportunity for activity to everyone. • 11. How UK Inflation Indexed Gilts Are Priced How UK inflation indexed gilts are priced? There are two methodologies are used in calculating cash flows for inflation indexed gilts because gilts have two indexation lags depending on when they were first launched. Eight month lag Linkers An eight month indexation lag is applied to the calculation for the gilts which were first issued before 2005. The payments on these bonds use the inflation data eight months previously. The adjusted rate of return is based on the nominal rate of return and the RPI adjustment, where the nominal rate of return is fixed and the RPI adjustment varies. Two RPI figures are required to calculate inflation adjustment: one is base RPI figure that concerns the first issue date of the gilt; the other figure is the RPI applicable to the interest payment date. An example is given as follows to illustrate how this methodology is applied. Example: 4⅛% inflation indexed gilts 2030, which was first issued in June 1992 and the relative base RPI is 135.1 (the RPI for October 1991). In order to gain the rate of interest paid in January 1998, the RPI figures for previous May and November in 1998 are also required. The interest rate of return is as follows: 4.125/2×((RPI for May 1997)/(RPI for Oct 1991)) =4.125/2×(156.9/135.1)=2.3953 For the redemption payment per £100 nominal of this bond on maturity is calculated in similar way: 100×((RPI for Nov 2029)/(RPI for Oct 1991)) Three month lag Linkers All the inflation indexed gilts issued from 2005 ... Many people have an indifferent attitude towards the penniless, believing that it is their fault they are in the situation in the first place. Shakespeare questions this notion. At the start of King Lear, Lear and Gloucester are both unconcerned about the homeless and even subject their kin to a state of removal from society. However, their attitudes change when they both experience wretchedness for themselves and they develop empathy for the destitute. • 14. Rights of Man Essay Rights of Man The identity of a society is verified through the rights which are given to the citizens. The rights of man have been at many different standards throughout time. Often being very one sided, and at times striving for a median between the two sides. In Edmund Burke s essay Reflections on the Revolution in France Burke states that a king is in one sense a servant but in everyday situations they are above every individual. All persons under him owe him a legal agreement to serve his hopes. This essay will demonstrate why Thomas Paine s essay The Rights of Man is more convincing than Edmund Burke s through examination of a heredity government, the nature of rights and the uselessness of the monarchy. Edmund Burke s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All individuals of the state should have say in selecting an individual to represent him and everyone else. Paine states that rights by nature cannot be granted. He supports this by saying that if rights are granted then they can be revoked, and if they can be revoked then they can be considered privileges, not rights. He claims that they should not be an agreement between the living and the dead, but the sole benefit of the entire constituent of these two groups. This is a very good argument on Paine s behalf. For if rights leaned to the deceased side then the living will be sold short on what they are deserved. On the other hand, if it supported the other side, we would be excluding the necessary component of tradition and example. Without the component of precedents and tradition, legitimacy would be lost. The rights are constantly changing through time. Rights which are appropriate in one decade do not necessarily mean it is applicable in the next. Mans morals and expectations of each other change drastically through history. So how is it possible to accept a forever binding right? Rights are often looked upon as rewards for abiding to the regulations set out by the higher party. In my mind rights are not earned, but they are rather an extension of our social contract. Rights must be applicable to all individuals. Paine s looks down upon the monarchical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Use Of Gunpowder And Firearms Triggered The Decline Of... Military speaking, it is often stated that the introducing of gunpowder and firearms triggered the decline of chivalry. Richard Kaeuper, on the contrary, explains that this improved military technology may be too abrupt, for who would not be reluctant to sign a specific, dated death warrant to mark the end of [chivalry, which is] so persistent and so complex. 1 Moreover, it is not the first time that knights had to adapt to new military techniques. For instance, during the Hundred Year War (1337 1453) that opposed the French and English kingdoms, French knights were slaughtered by English crossbowmen during the battle of Agincourt in 1415. The French traditional model of the knight fighting with his sword was no longer sufficient to win a battle. Even before that, the English took on the chevauchée, a tactic based on raids to rampage the countryside and thus burn the villages and crops to prevent troops food supplies and also demoralizing the population. In response to that, the French used a similar technique of deployment of a small troop for precised raids. So, seeing knights military contribution as something constant and unchanging is incorrect. For 2.4 million who served in Vietnam, there was no official homecoming. In June of 2005, Branson, Missouri held Operation Welcome Home for Vietnam Veterans. The parade and events were planned to provide the celebration and recognition they did not receive 30 plus years earlier. (Vietnam: Homecoming) The veterans were able to see the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall and find the names of men they had known they had dies while serving. These veterans met with men they had formerly served with. Although this event was only a fraction of the welcome the soldiers truly deserved, many veterans were very appreciative of this. • 21. Analysis Of The Last Man By Thomas Campbell Essay The Encompassing of Solitude and the Manifesting of a Post Apocalyptic Prediction The Earth s apparent boundary between tangible existence and conceptual objectives consequently ignites curiosity throughout humanity, while the beckoning of man kind s search for reason throughout the unexplained components of life, thus, has become inevitable. In contrasting demeanor, some individual beings have lavished in the comfort that is granted to them through faith and religion. The repression of one s inquisitive behavior reaps growth in acceptance of trivial mysteries regarding life. Likely, human reactions to genuine solitude vary and are ultimately subjective in accordance to each human s differing perception. Debuting during the Revolutionary era in literature, The Last Man by Thomas Campbell embraced societal speculation, and provided interesting documentation that regarded the termination of the human race. The narrator of Campbell s poem, who presumably lacks the mortal conditions of the human species, garners a pessimistic outlook upon the forced separation between he and all mortal beings. Opposing Campbell s dreary attitudes on the topic, Wordsworth delivered a speaker within his poem titled I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud who insistently, and gleefully observed and portrayed nature from an area of chosen detachment. Within these poems, Wordsworth and Campbell centralized the concept of the complete isolation of man from all but the nature that surrounds him. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Eminent Domain Purposes 1. When does a taking occur for eminent domain purposes? Refer to the Lucas case. Eminent domain refers to the inherent power of the state to take or seize the private property of its individual citizens. Property taken through eminent domain is mainly set aside for the development of public utilities or assigned to a third party who is then supposed to use it for the general good of the public (Larson, 2004). There are generally four types of takings employed by the state through eminent domain. These are: a. Complete Taking This is where the state seizes an entire property in for public use. In the case of Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council (1992), the plaintiff was entitled to compensation as a result of the complete taking of his land. However the Supreme Court denied him any compensation stating that the restriction imposed on the use of the land was in the interest of the general public due to the intended use of the land. Therefore the Takings Clause does not apply in this case in spite of the economic benefits lost incurred as a result of the complete taking of his property. b. Partial Taking The state in this case takes a portion of a particular property mainly for the expansion of the existing utilities. The owner of the property is liable for compensation in regard to the piece of land seized and any resulting decline in the value of the remaining property. c. Temporary Taking The government may require a piece of land to be used as a site when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Gibbons V. Ogden. Gibbons Gibbons v. Ogden Gibbons v. Ogden was a landmark decision in which the United States Supreme Court held that power to regulate interstate commerce. It was given to congress by the commerce clause of the constitution. It was led by Chief Justice John Marshall. The debate in Gibbons concerned contending cases of adversary steamship establishments. The condition of New York gave Aaron Ogden a select permit to work steamboat ships between New Jersey and New York City on the Hudson River. Thomas Gibbons, another steamboat administrator, ran two ships along the same course. Ogden looked for an order against Gibbons in a New York state court, asserting that the state had issued him elite rights to work the course. Accordingly, Gibbons guaranteed he had the privilege to work on the course in accordance with a 1793 demonstration of Congress directing waterfront business. The New York court found for Ogden and requested Gibbons to stop working his steamships; on bid, the New York Supreme Court avowed the request. Gibbons spoke to the U.S. Preeminent Court, which surveyed the case in 1824. John Marshall ruled for Gibbons, holding that New York s selective award to Ogden disregarded the government authorizing demonstration of 1793. According to Amanda Eaken, a director of transportation and climate at the National Resource Defense Council, 40 percent of emissions in California is from transportation. • 32. Summary Of All Summer In A Day All Summer In A Day by Ray Bradbury is a short story about a girl named Margot and her experiences on the planet Venus. Margot moved to Venus from Earth when she was 4 years old, old enough to remember the sun. On Venus, the sun only comes out every 7 years for a couple hours, other than this, it s always raining. The other children on this planet bullied Margot, they were mean to her because she could remember the sun, and they didn t. One lesson the story suggests is that when you don t think about your actions, it can lead to regret and guilt. Throughout the story, the children were jealous of Margot and bullied her. Bradbury says, They surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed and locked the door. They stood looking at the door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. They heard her muffled cries. Then, smiling, they turned and went out and back down the tunnel, just as the teacher arrived. This paragraph illustrates how mean the children were to Margot and how they acted so quickly without really thinking about what they were doing. When the children did this they acted out of jealousy and hurt Margot, without even knowing it. This is a reason why you should always think before you say or do something; sometimes we can get wrapped up in our own jealousy and hurt someone. After the the children hurt Margot they felt terrible and guilty. In the story it states They stood as if someone had driven them like so many stakes, into the floor. They looked at each other and then looked away...They could not meet each other s glances. Their faces were solemn and pale. These couple short sentences tell us how the children looked after they remembered Margot, by knowing this, we know how they felt. Before, all of the children teamed up and shoved her in a closet, then the sun came out and they had a great time playing outside together. After 2 hours the sun was gone again and the children finally remember about Margot, when this happened each of them felt tremendously guilty. How might both play roles in the life of an animal in a natural environment? The classical conditioning is when an animal learns the relation between an event, that it has no control over, with a beneficial consequence. In operant conditioning, the animal learns the association between an action, or situation that it has control over, in order to produce a beneficial consequence, such as a reward. Both these two associative learning behaviors can be relevant to the animal in the wild. In the classical conditioning, for example, if a predator animal that learns how to associate the sunset with the appearance of prey has more chance to survive. • 37. Green And Social Responsibility For Global Warming Nowadays, people are becoming increasingly aware of environmental protection. Going green is a term used to refer to a series of process aimed at embracing an environmental and ecologically friendly lifestyle while at the same time adhering to legal and social norms aimed at practicing the environments and natural resources. The adoption of gen strategies by governments and most industry players is informed by the adverse effects of climate change that continue to increase the costs of production while at the same time accelerating environmental degradation. Currently, the world has put more emphasis on going green and embracing socially responsible approaches. The rising costs of climate change and the debilitating effects of global warming have been the main reasons for the vibrant state of going green and socially responsibility conventions in the world. Startling statics about climate change have informed the need to embrace sustainable approaches in business and governance as a way of mitigation. To justify the vibrant state of going green and social responsibility in the world today, one has to revisit the grim statics associate with global warming (Stewart, 2014). Studies have revealed that at least 45 percent of the world s population is adversely affected by climate change. The effects of this global phenomenon are evenly distributed across all the continents of the world. From Australia to Texas, droughts are systematically becoming common environmental phenomena. ... • 38. Portfolio Analysis chapter two PORTFOLIO ANALYSIS INTRODUCTION Organizations market a mix of products or services or both. These constitute the offering that is made through the strategic window. Central to the success or failure of a business is the health of its product (or service) mix. A starting point is the product life cycle concept. This is a useful conceptual framework within which to study how firms can vary their marketing strategies though of course as we shall see in later chapters they do have to take other factors into account. There seems to be little doubt, however, that at different stages in the product life cycle certain marketing strategies seem to be more appropriate than others. The life cycle concept also points to the different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One problem that has been found in trying to make use of the product life cycle concept as a management tool is that many products do not appear to perform in the market place as it suggests. They seem to bypass some stages while getting stuck at other stages. Moreover, they may even come into vogue again after a period of going out of fashion. These observations have brought about criticisms of the product life cycle as a useful planning tool. EXHIBIT 2.1 SWANSEA ENGINEERING DIFFICULTIES IN USING THE PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE CONCEPT Swansea Engineering makes wire for industrial uses. Applications range from wire for cables to carry high voltage electricity to wire for winding on small electric motors for incorporation in both industrial and domestic products. The firm has tried to use the life cycle concept to explain generic sales in the market and sales of its own products. Difficulties encountered include the defining of product markets and the separation from natural growth and decline in the market and the effects of recession. Indeed in recent years it has proved extremely difficult to assess exactly where many products and markets are in relationship to their anticipated life cycles. Ironing out the fluctuations caused by economic recessions and mini booms causes one of the major problems. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Lady Capulet Language Analysis The nurse s most prominent qualities are that she is more casual in her manner of speaking and makes very inappropriate comments throughout the scene. The nurse s informal manner is seen quite a few times during 1:3 (Act 1, Scene 3). Towards the beginning of the scene, she repeatedly addresses Juliet as Jules . This nickname tells the reader that the nurse and Juliet get along well and seem to be more like friends. Another significant moment when her way of speaking stands out is when the reader compares Lady Capulet s form of speaking to the nurse s way. Essentially, the nurse speaks quite freely with the Capulets due to her friendly relationship with them. This freedom of speech often leads to quite crude and odd comments from her (the nurse) ... • 41. Heroic Qualities Of Odysseus Homer s epic poem The Odyssey begins by painting Odysseus as a brave and powerful leader and an impulsive decision maker who over time becomes more intelligent; Homer develops these relatable and heroic characteristics through detailed imagery and word choice as well as through symbols and homeric similes which amplify the representation of Odysseus as a normal person as well as a heroic figure. Odysseus s tendency to succumb to impulsive strokes of curiosity enables readers to relate with his inner character. The protagonist gives into the natural human curiosity to find and fix one s weakness. Circe tells him of the sirens who know the secrets of Odysseus s weakness, she also tells him that listening to their knowledge is unwise and he along with his crew should close their ears. However, in his impulsivity, Odysseus actually tells his crew to force him to listen while they cover their ears. Odysseus also shows his impulses in regards to thirst for knowledge when he sends two scouts to explore the land of the Lotus Eaters, knowing full well that their chance of return is unlikely. This quest for knowledge could have been in a slower, but more logical and effective way. This shows how Odysseus can easily succumb to less logical ideas if it is a question of his power or knowledge. Another constant in his early story is his portrayal as a daring and fearless figure, often taking control and triumphing over potential threats. Odysseus witnesses two of his shipmates be ... • 42. The History Of Moby Dick The History of Moby Dick On October 8th, 1851, the book Moby Dick written by Herman Melville was published, which be later be considered a Great American Epic. Melville before he was a writer took an a few odd occupations, including a banker, a teacher, and a whaler for about 5 years. On his voyages he heard many tales, one about a peculiar and catastrophic incident involving a certain whaling boat. Moby Dick based off of this tale, telling a story of a young man called Ishmael signs up to work on the ship the Pequad . The ship was captained by a strict, crazy man called Ahab, who would stop at nothing to kill Moby Dick, the white whale. At first, Moby Dick was poorly received. At first people hated it, a considered it to be one of Melville s worst books. It wasn t considered a Great American Epic until after Melville s death. Today however, Moby Dick has been influential to other writers and literary topics, such as movies. One popular movie, not based off of Moby Dick but it s true story, about Captain Pollard and his first mate Owen Chase, The Heart of the Sea stands out among the others. The Heart of the Sea was produced by Ron Howard, who says he wanted to create a Moby Dick movie, but instead told the actual story the book was based off of. • 43. The Discovery Of Cells And The Cell Theory The cell. The most basic form of life, and yet the most complex structure Mother Nature has to offer. For hundreds of years, man has tried to crack its codes, to try and find what makes it tick; but it seems that the deeper we go into the study of cells, the more questions appear too. The purpose of this entire essay is to educate my readers on cells, our discovery of cells and the cell theory, where we believe they first appeared, and how we have learned to manipulate cells to cure diseases like cancer. I will also talk about how our knowledge of cells has changed our medicine and agriculture, and how ethnic some of these changes are. But first, let us talk about the discovery of cells and the cell theory. Robert Hooke, an english scientist, was the man who first discovered the cell in 1665, proof being a book he released at that time called Micrographia. In this book, Hooke gave 60 observations of random objects under a compound microscope with a magnification of 30x. Because of this, he was not able to see the internal structures in the cell, like nuclei and vacuoles, and what he proclaimed to be cells were just empty cell walls of plant tissues. He shared his observations with The English Royal Society, until they started receiving letters from a scientist named Anton van Leeuwenhoek. The letters stated that Anton made use of a microscope containing improved lenses that magnified objects up to 275x, enough to identify the living parts of a cell. He kept on sending ... Ethics And The Separation Of Law And Morals Law and morality work together to guide our behavior; while law does it by punishing us if we do something wrong, morality does it through incentives. Her defense was that she acted according to the law of that time and had not committed any crime. Hart agrees with her defense, saying that we should now applaud ourselves for punishing her for her immoral actions because she adhered to the laws of her time, and was at that time not doing anything wrong. Contradicting his view is Radbrunch s, who argued that extreme injustice is no law, meaning that a particular social standard can lose its legal validity when it is extremely unjust. Hart, a legal positivist, believes that law is law, and argued against Radbrunch s theory in servings as a solution to fix Germany s judicial system. He argued against his theory and wanted a separation of law and morality because he thought that it would only cloak the true nature of the problems, and encourage a romantic optimism, rather than addressing the dilemma that the courts had in deciding on convicting Nazi criminals. Though Hart acknowledges that this case poses a difficult situation for the law, he does propose his own solution to the problem. With his positivist approach to the law, saying that the laws are the rules expected of us, and enforced at a particular time, he proposes that the grudge informer should be punished through a different and new set of laws. These laws he deems retrospective laws, would entail punishing acts such as revenge and duplicity. However, this dilemma between choosing if the grudge informer was innocent ... Exposure to DU is commonly talked about by almost everyone in the military spending time out of the wire, however, not limited to only those combat service members. Uranium History and Beginning Risks Before going straight in on the subject of DU, it would be appropriate to explain it s parent. Uranium goes back many centuries. According to Briner (2010), Uranium assisted the Germans in the creation of certain textiles and paint in the 1500s. Miners were needed to retrieve this element and over time lung cancer set in the miners due to radioactive dust from uranium (p. 304). Later in time, the United States took interest in uranium. According to Brugge Goble (2002), it was in 1948 the uranium mining boom started exposing people to radiation dust leading to lung cancer, similar situation to Germany.
