Terrorism After Ww2
Terrorism after World War Two took on the rise of Nationalistic and Endemic terrorism. Terrorist
campaigns were aimed at the security forces, and they also targeted audiences in the imperial
homelands (White, pg. 161, 2012). The British government was a major player in the cause of this I
believe from regions in Cyprus and Kenya. Occupation by the Brits gathered the rise of the original
ethnic groups within those regions to fight against this occupation. This resulted in an uncomfortable
conflict of interests with the NATO partners of the United Kingdom and Turkey, and it threatened the
stability of the alliance (White, pg. 162, 2012). France also invaded North Africa and some French
citizen moved to that region as a result of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
138, 2012). These long term separatists are different from the religious group as are the ethnic and
nationalistic groups. They usually have a clear mission. The Basque Nation and Liberty (ETA) fought
against Spain for a long time and just ended its fight in 2011. Ethnic terrorism is as its name states that
it s a fight between different ethnic groups within a region. Examples of these are the Kurdistan
Workers Party (PKK), and the Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA). They want to make a
statement of the identity, and be recognized as such. Unfortunately this can take on a violent nature
and become terrorism as it has in the past. Modern terrorism is associated with the 1916 Easter Black
Rising, the Black and Tan War of 1919 to 1921 (White, pg. 139, 2012). Sri Lanka has suffered
terrorism in the form of this type by groups of the Sinhalese, and the Tamils. Ireland had been
occupied by the British for an extremely long time and this has caused terrorism in Ireland. Irish
nationalists, long angered by the colonial rule of England, incorporated terrorist techniques into their
revolt against British rule, and their experiences evolved as weapons technology improved (White, pg.
139, 2012). Ethnic Terrorism in separatist movements ranges through many parts of the world.

Essay On Deepening Insolvency
Originally only a theory of damages, the term Deepening Insolvency refers to the wrongful
prolongation of a corporation s life beyond insolvency, thereby resulting in damage to the corporation
caused by increased debt, dissipation of assets, decreased reputation etc.
Insolvency is generally understood, from a balance sheet perspective, as a financial condition such
that the sum of the entity s debts is greater than the fair value of a company s assets. What deepening
insolvency cases have also focused on, however, is cash flow insolvency when a company incurs debt
that would be beyond its ability to pay in future years and low capital insolvency when a company
engages in a transaction or business that its capital base cannot support. When an insolvent company
and its creditors are harmed by a fraudulent act or negligence of ... Show more content on

In an article written by Sabin Willet, it was stated that a new loan, however onerous or ill advised, can
never deepen balance sheet insolvency. Every new loan involves an infusion of capital that sets off the
added debt so the insolvency remains the same, not deeper. Shareholders are not injured by deepening
insolvency; their injury is total upon the initial insolvency. The dead cannot get deader. Although a
corporation s creditors may be harmed by deepening insolvency, the creditors are not the corporation;
that they may suffer harm as a corporation s insolvency deepens does not mean that the corporation
does. If deepening insolvency were valid, a cause of action would also have to exist for diminished
solvency.
Not all cases agreed to the judgment of Lafferty case. In the judgment of In re Global Serv. Group
LLC , though the court recognized the loss faced by the company, it refused to see deepening
insolvency as an independent cause of action in tort. The court stated This may be bad banking, but it

The Crime Rate Of Atlanta Essay
Did you know that someone is murdered every 60 seconds in the united states?
Atlanta was recently ranked October 2012 as the sixth most dangerous city in the United States among
cities of more than 200,000 residents. According to Forbes the city has a violent crime rate of 1,433
per 100,000 and has experienced a violent crime rate rise of six percent in 2011 and is currently
increasing. Crime in Atlanta, Georgia is above the national median and has been a major problem for
the city since the middle 20th century. Atlanta has been known for high crime rates, particularly
property crime and homicides. Much of the city s crime, however, is centralized in most of its western
neighborhoods and scattered neighborhoods adjacent to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.
These include Grove Park, Center Hill, and Bankhead, some of the most crime infested neighborhoods
of Atlanta. This is alarming because Morehouse college is literally less then ten minutes from all of
these places. In just these three areas alone homicide is rated 20.5, forcible rape is rated 33.2, robbery
is rated 512.6, aggravated assault is rated 661.1, burglary is rated 1203.9, grand larceny theft is rated
3631.0, motor vehicle theft is rated 912.5 and arson is rated 16.5 calculating to an disgusting overall
rate of 5747.4.
Drug abuse and distribution among youth is also a big problem. The use of both alcohol and cigarettes

Louis Armstrong Contributions
Louis Armstrong s diversity and adaptability is widely recognized as one of the most influential aspect
in jazz music. Louis Armstrong s musical influence is still the fundamental base for modern jazz
today. Louis Armstrong is jazz. He represents what the music is all about. Wynton Marsalis perfectly
sums up his contributions. His diversity sets him apart from other jazz artists because he managed to
stay relevant throughout different musical eras like, the ENOJ era, The Swing Era, Blues etc., until the
end of his career. The accomplishments he has achieved throughout his life and the hardships he has
gone through has shaped his persona, contributing to how he will become as an artist. His instrumental
style, singing, career throughout musical eras, accomplishments, and etc., contribute to how adaptable
and diverse he is.
Background/Influences on Early Life
Louis Armstrong, a well known influential jazz artist. He was known differently to each person, but
universally, he was recognized for his talent with music. Behind all of his accomplishments, he is a
regular person just like any other. Born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he grew up
facing hardships at an early age.
Being raised in a part of New Orleans known as The Battlefield because of its faulty economic
situation is not ideal. In addition, his mother did not have a stable job and with his father long out of
the picture, life was hard for young Armstrong. In fifth grade, while being taken care of by his
maternal grandmother most of the time, he left school to work. He was employed by a Jewish family
who encouraged him to sing.(Biography.com)
In 1912, he was sent to Colored Waif s Home for Boys. There, he was educated on the cornet and
grew his love for music. He was released in 1914 and worked odd jobs and dreamed about a life filled
with music. His reputation grew as a blues player. Joe King Oliver (influential cornet player), began
acting as a mentor to the Armstrong. (Biography.com)
Multiple things happened to Armstrong in 1918, he married Daisy Parker and adopted Clarence, the
son of his cousin. His reputation also grew, and as a result, he replaced Oliver in Kid Ory s band, and
spent full time playing his cornet,

Applying The Thin Flexible Compression Column For...
This report provides a comprehensive design methodology for the thin flexible compression column
for implementation into a load bearing garment. The thin flexible compression column exists as part
of a larger load bearing system, which has military and civilian applications in load assist and injury
prevention. This system was designed to quasi actively assist in the load carriage for a soldier (body
armor and rucksack) without sacrificing safety, flexibility, or comfort. The column serves as the
connection between shoulder and waist, transferring load in compression.
The studies begin with the development of the initial concept, the continuous floating constraint
buckling column. This concept consists of a flexible composite column, under axial loading, buckling
to higher modes between rigid lateral constraints. The concept is proven by a comprehensive
experimental demonstration. A dynamic FEA model of that system is developed and studied.
Experimental response proved consistent with FEA results. The model accurately predicts buckling
forces, lateral reaction forces, stresses, strains, friction, modal shapes, and deflection. The geometric
variables of the continuous floating constraint were optimized using the FEA model, and final tests
were carried out. A second more flexible concept is devised using the lessons learned from the
continuous floating constraint design and FEA model. The results generated from the FEA model as
well as practical considerations

Texas Snowbells Research Paper
The Texas snowbell, also known as Styrax texana is a flower located in the Edwards Plateau of Texas.
They are found in Asia, North and South America, and the Mediterranean (Fish and Wildlife Service).
Three recognized species exist in the Edwards Plateau: texana, platanifolius, and stellatus (Fish and
Wildlife Service). S. platanifolius is found in the east and north of Texas, whereas S. stellatus is found
in the south. S. texana however, grows in the west. Through examination of its morphology, it can be
determined that the three species are closely related to one another. Their forms and structures are
similar, but they evolved and live under different conditions and habitat. The climate in the Edwards
Plateau is typically humid and semi arid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shade provides little protection for these plants against the hot and humid climate. Small insects
such as moths, caterpillars, and snails causes damages to the plants by biting and leaving holes in the
leaves. Stream bank erosion, deer, goat, and cattle browsing, flooding, and diseases causes Texas
snowbells to die off. Because of their small population size, Texas snowbells cannot reproduce (Fish
and Wildlife Service). Another challenge to their survival is the vegetation alteration caused by the
increasing number of livestock, fire suppression, and cultivation (Texas Parks and Wildlife). Livestock
are eating up the seeds produced by this flower. Grasses used to be tall, but became short because
insects and animals are eating them. Since grasses are short, Texas snowbell is more noticeable to
predators. Higher sedimentation loss and lower run offs is a result of the change in grass size,
destroying the cliffs where Texas snowbells grow (Fish and Wildlife Service). Their habitat is being
destroyed, reducing their numbers drastically. Temperatures in the Edwards Plateau are hot to the
plant, causing them to die because of heat (Fish and Wildlife

Body Piercings In American Culture
Over the past few decades, body piercings have become a popular form of body art and have been
accepted in the American culture. Society has learned to recognize body piercings as a form of self
expression; however, most employers are not allowing them to be shown in the workplace. Body
piercings serve as a function to stand out from the rest of society. Employees with piercings are
defending their right to express themselves in efforts to make body piercings permitted in the work
place. Even though piercings are becoming mainstream, they are stilled seen as unprofessional in an
office/work setting. Piercings have been a tradition for certain cultures for centuries and are viewed as
a necessary body modification. Egyptians were one of the first to practice body alterations followed
by African and Native American Tribes. Egyptians used piercings to show their wealth and to reveal

The purpose in constructing this report is to take a look and study the illegal steroid use in Major
League Baseball, and possible ways it can be exempt from the game forever. Use of performance

In 2003, David Boomer Wells claimed that up to 40% of major leaguers used steroids, and then in
2005, Jose Canseco addressed the media with stating that 80% of major leaguers had taken steroids,
and have credited the drug for their entire career (Gilman, 2013, p.2). So the facts are there, players
are using and abusing to cheat their way into the HOF (Hall of Fame). The one time strike is followed
without pay, because the player will not completely process the magnitude of what he did was wrong.
This solution would hold true to the integrity of the game and keep the playing field fair across the

Players that are breaking records and accomplishing tasks a normal man cannot amount to without the
use of performance enhanced drugs, should not be applauded for. Athletes who use and test positive
for steroids will be banished from baseball s record books and will be ineligible to enter the Hall of

record books, and if none of that is recorded then what would be the use of cheating. It would be as if
the player never participated or even played the game (Abramson, 2014, p.2). Mark Maguire, a front

Sharia Law is strictly governed by the teachings of the Quran and the Hadith. Sharia itself translates to
God s divine law. Examples of Sharia Law include but are not limited to: criminal, civil and family
rulings. Some of the primary criminal offenses included under Sharia Law are: theft, apostasy,
blasphemy, adultery, rape, sodomy, lesbianism, prostitution and consumption of alcohol. Civil cases
are usually limited to financial contracts, marriage, debt and financial support. Sharia courts not only

The Necessity Of Cell Phone
Cell phones , when many people hear these words, they think of a talking device, right? Well, they re
right to a certain degree, however, a cell phone is so much more than just that and they don t even
realize it. Instead of thinking of a phone as a type of device, people everywhere should realize what it
really is, a necessity. A necessity is something that people have to have in an everyday life. In today s
society, cell phones are used every single day, all around the world. They have became a very
important aspect in lives, and to make it throughout each day, citizens have to have a cell phone.
Phones are used for school, work, money, safety, and so much more. Cell phones make things quick
and they re convenient. A cell phone is definitely a have to have in life today. They are used for
essentially everything. It s remarkably more than just a phone, it s a protection, communication, and
an entertainment device all in one. The world is a scary place, for both a tennager and a parent. For a
parent, never knowing when an accident might happen or where their child is at causes a lot of stress,
and for a young teenager just being alone is intimidating enough. How are people supposed to stay
safe? Having a cell phone fixes those problems and fears. People don t have to be worried or scared

Race Day has finally arrived, or should I say Match Day , in this case. After several months of training

slow and steady, but that s OK. After all, 26.2 miles is a long way; no need to worry now. The goal is
to finish the last half stronger and faster than the first. The first third of my marathon corresponds to

Analyzing Maya Angelou s Poems

Comparative/Critical Essay Using Elements of Poetry Although she passed in late May of 2014, Maya
Angelou s poems will continue to live in the hearts of many. Ms. Angelou is considered to be one of
America s greatest poets because of her phenomenal work. One, however, really does not understand
the depths of her writings until they research Angelou and discover the extraordinary woman she
really was. Upon researching the life of Angelou, I learned that not only was she a writer but she was
also a dancer, singer, actress, composer, activist, and a mother (Contemporary Authors Online).
Even though Angelou had many accomplishments, she first had to overcome a difficult childhood of

Each poem has a dominant figurative language that the reader may pick up as they read the literatures.
According to Clark, authors frequently develop mental pictures through the use of symbolism (Clark).
In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, for example, one can automatically perceive that Angelou
utilized symbolism. Other than the birds representing the human race, both the sky and the fat worms
symbolize the endless opportunities freedom can bring. The bars of rage , clipped wings, and tied feet,
however, are all restraints of what keeps the second bird from discovering what the world has to offer.
Just as we cry out for help or attention when we feel trapped, the caged bird sings so that others can
hear it, far and wide. Moreover, in Still I Rise, she mainly included similes and metaphors in almost
every stanza. I am a black ocean, says Angelou. Throughout the whole poem, this is her most
influential line and it happens to be her thesis statement. An ocean is commonly acknowledged for its
immensity and powerful waves. In this metaphor, she is referring to her own strong and sassy
personality. This sets the tone for the whole poem, which enables the reader to sense the strength of
Angelou s persistent character. Lastly, when reading Phenomenal Woman , she employs hyperbole
when she describes how men react to her presence. Her inner beauty either makes the men stand or
fall down on their knees and it causes them to swarm around her like a hive of honeybees. This
emphasizes how much her inner mystery attracts those around her. Her inner mystery is another
example of a hyperbole, because of the fact that men and women wonder what makes her so alluring.
No one can seem to figure out that her physical attributes have nothing to do with it. Angelou s secret
is simple: Her inner mystery is her inner beauty. No one can comprehend this, even when she s
attempted to explain because it

Skin Fold Method Essay
Potential sources of measurement error can occur while using the skin fold method if the person that is
administrating the test has not had significant amount of practice. Taking skin fold measurements
requires specific training. Without training, it is complicated to obtain consistent accurate skin fold
measurements. To reduce error while using the skin fold method, it is important to have a good quality
skin fold caliper. Good quality calipers should deliver a specific amount of force and this can be
assured by the manufacturer of the caliper. he easiest skin fold site to measure was the abdominal area.

Certain areas of measurements was harder to take than other areas because of it s angle. It was harder
to take skin fold measurements on a participant who did not have much fat on their body. It was also
difficult to take measurements when the participant was in multiple layers of clothes. The potential
sources of error when measuring circumferences and skeletal diameters can occur if the administrator
does not properly measure the specific areas. Measuring too high or too low of a certain area can skew
accuracy. It is also important for the administrator to remember to stand on the right side of the
participant. Not accurately reading the measuring tape can result in error. For example, reading inches
instead of centimeters would cause error. For my skin fold measurements, body fat percentage was
between twenty five and thirty five percent. For BIA, my body fat percentage for sitting was twenty
two percent, standing with straight arms was twenty one percent, and standing with bent arms at
seventeen percent. The measurements may have been different since the SKF was taken by a person
and BIA through a machine. Although the results were not completely off, it was off by a few

Who Is Artemis In Greek Mythology
Greek mythology is filled with a variety of stories that draw in a diverse audience. These stories deal

Robert Mallet Stevens was granted the permission to design a villa for fashion designer Paul Poiret in
the 1920 s. Paul Poiret was considered to be a very dominant fashion designer at the time. The

But it was not until in 1934 when it was bought by Elvire Popesco. After the war architects were
changed, Paul Boyer was trusted to run the completion of the villa. Paul Boyer made a few
modifications to Robert Mallet Stevens original design. This meant that the building would no longer
have its original look. The style of the villa is mostly art deco, considering the time in which it was
constructed, it was a very dominant style at the time. Which lead the building to have this type of
design, which is also considered to be 1920 s cubism inspired. The change of architects during its time
of construction meant that a few modifications were made to the villa to give it the appearance of a
cruise liner, bringing the transatlantic steamers which were all the rage at the time to mind. However
Robert Mallet Stevens basic design was however preserved. The villa stands in 48,500 m² of parkland
in Mézy sur Seine, to the west of Paris, overlooking the Seine Valley. It is constructed in reinforced
concrete to a geometric style. The villa has 25 rooms on three levels, 800 m² of internal space, an

Textual Analysis Of Wings Of Desire, By Wim Wenders
Wings of Desire Wings of Desire is a German film by director Wim Wenders released in 1987. The
scene I want to focus on for the textual analysis is the scene in which the angel Cassiel attempts to
comfort a suicidal man, but his attempts at comfort fail when the man jumps off of a building, causing
Cassiel to descend into a spiral of grief and anger. The scene starts with a sound bridge between a shot
of birds in flight and a shot of a man sitting on the edge of a building. The sound of the birds mixes
with non diegetic music and the sound of the man s thoughts. The viewers can hear his thoughts,
which is symbolized by his non diegetic stream of consciousness monologue. The actor s mouth does
not move, but the viewers still hear his monologue, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then there are a few interlude shots of Peter Falk, before the montage, which is a maelstrom of
quickly paced short shots. The short, confusing shots serve to disorient the viewer and put them in the
same headspace as Cassiel, who is grieving, as well as to create symbolic meaning. In between the
handheld shots that progress through the city, there are shots of people that are vulnerable or hurt.
There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench, possibly an index pointing
at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying for his mother, and footage that seems to be
from during the war, intercutting with shots of a bird s wings. Bird s wings are symbolically
associated with angels, and these shots intercut with shots of war and destruction, linking the two
together, the angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer understands the shots in the
montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees all that pain and carries the
burden of comfort. Jump cuts are used as well throughout the montage, for example in the shot of the
women in the staircase, further increasing the sense of frantic confusion, and an example of poetic
rather than practical language, as the information is not delivered in a straightforward

Symbolism in Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan Boyle, is the story of a group of adolescents, searching for the one
situation that will proclaim them as bad boys and how their minds change. As the story begins, the
narrator gives the impression that he feels he and the others boys should have taken notice of some
obvious clues about themselves. These clues would have led them to the conclusion that they were far
from the bad guys they wished to be. However, the oblivious teenagers ignore these obvious signs and
continue in search of their goal.
In this story, Boyle uses many symbols to create the theme. The individual vehicles are each symbols

Analysis Of Pixar s New Man
The New Man as described by Ken Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden in Post Princess Models of
Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar explains the way in which men are portrayed in children s
films today and how that varies from older films. Contrasting this New Man are all the dangerous and
traditional men Michael S. Kimmel describes in Gender, Class and Terrorism because these men are
uber macho males as explained by Gillam and Wooden. Pixar s New Man definition has evolved from
the original definition of what it means to be male and have masculine qualities which escapes the
rhetoric of masculinity(a term coined by Kimmel) which if incorporated into modern society would
lessen negative events that happen in the world. When speaking of negative events that covers all
damaging behavior that comes from following what C.J. Pascoe explains in Dude, You re a Fag :
Adolescent Masculinity and the Fag Discourse . In Pascoe s work he describes the way in which men
treat each other to diminish each other s manhood.
When introduced to the world, Pixar s New Man would be empowered by equality and would not
demand power as well as leadership but would find strength in being a part of a team. Kimmel
explains that alpha males in current society continue to feel a seething resentment against women,
whom they perceive as stealing their rightful place at the head of the table (593). Gillam and Wooden

The Importance Of Equality In The Same Sex Community
On June 2015, same sex marriage was declared legal across the nation. The reason that #lovewins
became a movement was because for years same sex couples in many states were denied Marriage. (
Adam Liptak,2015) The purpose of this online social movement was to shed light on the need of

The same sex community is also known as the LGBT community stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and

There were many Past issues on homosexuals being treated unfair, for example, police harassment,

Learning A Second Language Education Essay
We live in a world surrounded by people of various cultures, countries, and ethnicities, who all speak
different languages. As a young child, I attended a Spanish immersion program through my pre school
and elementary school. I was absorbed into a new culture much different from my own. I grew up
learning words in Spanish before I knew them in English. I also developed unexpected friendships,
spending much of my childhood in Spanish speaking households. As a college student, I look back on
this time and greatly appreciate the skills and lessons I cultivated from learning a second language.
Second language education should be required in elementary schools. Learning a second language
leads children to become successful students with prosperous futures and connects people of different
cultures. Studies have shown that students who receive second language education do better on
standardized tests. A study conducted by P.W. Armstrong and J.D. Rogers in 1997 declared that third
grade students who received thirty minute lessons in Spanish three times a week, scored higher on the
Metropolitan Achievement Test in the subjects of math and language than their peers who did not
receive Spanish education (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Another study
that took place in 1981 by P.A. Eddy shows that students who have received second language learning,

Operations Of Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab
Operations of Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab
I. Overview History
Joe s Stone Crab was founded in Miami Beach in 1913. Joe Weiss and his wife, Jennie, moved to
Florida from the north in order to relieve his asthma. At this time, stone crabs were not viewed as
edible. There was a large number of them so an ichthyologist came to Weiss stating that they were safe
for human consumption. Weiss experimented with cooking the crab and discovered they were a
delicacy when served chilled with his special mustard sauce. By 1918, Joe and Jennie opened their
permanent restaurant in Miami Beach on Washington Ave that is still open to this day.
Meanwhile, in 1970 s Chicago, Richard Melman worked with a couple different partners and investors
to build a network of restaurants in the Chicagoland area called Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, or
commonly LEYE . By the mid 1980s, his network of restaurants employed about 2,000 people in the
Chicago area and annual revenues stood at about $40 million (Wilson). In 1999, Melman teamed up
with the second generation of Weisses to partner to create a location in Chicago, called Joe s Seafood,

In this essay I will begin by explaining the five major points of the placebo effect, such as the
understanding of placebo, the history, phenomenon, experiments and case studies. Placebos are used
in everyday life, from it being your doctor or even a commercial you ve seen on the tv. Do we really
need prescribed medication or do we just think we do?
UNDERSTANDING PLACEBO
(Goldacre, n.d.) The placebo effect is one of the most fascinating things in the whole of medicine. It s
not just about taking a pill, and your performance and your pain getting better. It s about our beliefs
and expectations. It s about the cultural meaning of a treatment . The placebo effect is one ... Show

In an experiment involving pain symptoms, a placebo is giving to control group A and the actual pain
pill is being giving to control group B. In every experiment involving placebo it uses either the single
blinded method or double blinded. In this experiment we are only using the single blinded method and
this is where only the experimenter knows which patient or control group is receiving a placebo. In
some experiments they use the double blinded method to make sure neither the patient or the control
group know that they are receiving a placebo. The reason they do the double blind method is because
when the patient asks the experimenter if she or he is receiving the placebo neither will actually

Roman Mythology Essay
Roman Mythology
The ancient Greek and ancient Roman religion was the belief in gods.
They had similar beliefs, but also vast differences. They came from each other and gave their people a
form of morality. It was composed of many meaningful gods and goddesses that all played a part in
the everyday life of the average
Roman and Greek person of that time. They believed in something called polytheism. It is the belief of
many gods; each given a personality, function, relationship to each other through family, and to be the
subject of many myths and legends that were to be told for many of years to come. They were to
become the basis for a religion that would last for hundreds of years and would yield thousands of
followers to believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was originally said to be the daughter of the giant
Palla, but was later said to have sprung from the forehead of Jupiter fully armed and grown. (Grolier)
That is said in both religions, but in the Greek religion she is the goddess of the city, handicrafts, and
agriculture. She is the inventor of the bridle, the trumpet, the flute, the pot, the rake, the plow, the
yoke, the ship, and the chariot. She represented reason, wisdom, and purity. Venus was the carrier of
four things in the Roman religion as: Venus
Felix; bringer of luck; Venus Victrix, bringer of victory; Venus Verticordia, protector of female
chastity; and Venus Libentina, patroness of sensual pleasure. (Grolier) In Greek mythology as
Aphrodite, she was the goddess of love, desire, and beauty. She is also said to have a magic girdle that
makes anyone she wishes to desire her. (www. hunt) Mercury was the messenger of the Roman gods.
He darted around quickly with his winged shoes and hat. He was also the god of merchants, science,
astronomy, thieves, travelers, vagabonds, and of cleverness. (Grolier) In Greek mythology he is also
the god of thieves and messenger of the gods. He guides the dead to the underworld and was the
inventor of the lyre, pipes, musical scale, astronomy, weights and measures, boxing, gymnastics, and
the carer of the olive trees. (www. hunt) Diana was at first a minor deity of the forest and woodland,

Essay about Arts and Recreation in Song Dynasty China
When studying the rich history of arts and recreation in the Song Dynasty, it is evident that there were
many newly pioneered practices that completely captivated the populous and became the epitome of
several long established genres. When one observes the progression of visual arts through the Song
Dynasty, landscape painting established itself as the most prevalent and important of the multitude of
forms in this genre. Close examination of entertainment reveals that the dramatic arts, with emphasis
on shadow puppeteering, became the most enjoyed form of amusement in the Song Dynasty. Finally,
nothing had become more delightful than the everyday life of a citizen, which never had a dull
moment. Chinese art and recreation came to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A landscape painter tended to be a recluse, an individualist, and a Daoist (Morton and Lewis 2005).
These artists thought of landscape painting as the grandest and most satisfying way to represent nature
as a whole, to feel a sense of communion with nature, and to know oneself to be part of an orderly
cosmos (Morton and Lewis 2005). Thus, one can see the implications of landscape painting lay not
just in its beauty and simplicity, but also in its spiritual connection with Nature, and thus had wide
appeal. The point of view in landscape painting was also of paramount importance. The Chinese
artists understood that Western artists took in scenes from five or six feet from the ground. Chinese
artists worked from a raised viewpoint, so that they are not bogged done by small details in the front
and get a better sense of the whole scene (Morton and Lewis 2005). Every part of the image that is
created has its own innate interest, and yet it all comes together and works well as a whole (Morton
and Lewis 2005). It is clear that landscape painting was a cherished and important art form in Song
Dynasty culture. Dramatic arts became an essential and esteemed form of entertainment during the
Song Dynasty. The Chinese theater ran the gamut of all possible kinds of play or composition. A
testament to the Song s work toward variety in entertainment the drama made quite a feature of short
farcical scenes, acrobatic turns and satirical

The Importance Of Winton s Trip To Czechoslovakia
In December of 1938, a friend of Winton s suggested that Winton should skip a planned ski trip, and
go to Czechoslovakia and see if he could help the Czechoslovakian Jews. So, in 1938, Winton took a
trip to Czechoslovakia. He set up shop in a hotel in Prague to organize a plan to rescue children from
Hitler s regime. Winton had no experience in this type of work because, previously back in the UK, he
was a stockbroker. Within a short period of time, he had over 100 children ready to be departed, but
the British government would not take him seriously. So, he stole some documents from an
established rescue organization, typed in a section for his rescue and placed himself as chairmen of
that branch. Through that little forgery, he was able to get the British government to slowly issue
travel documents to the children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All he needed was families to take the children. In a 60 Minutes interview, Winton explained he sent a
letter to the president of the United States, asking to look for families in America to take children and
have ads in American newspapers for the children. Sadly, the letter never made to Roosevelt, in fact, it
only made to an American embassy in London, where they wrote back American Government is
Unable to Help. Winton says it was horrible because if America would open their country to refugees
then they could have gotten a lot more children out of

Employee Theft Julio Duran Kaplan College McAllen Campus CJ 180 Rene Pineda: 8/11/15:
Employee Theft At some point in everyone s life, they are confronted with the eighth commandment:
Thou shall not steal. Mine came during high school. I had several friends who worked for various
businesses, one of them at a fast food restaurant. Every Friday at midnight, my other friends and I
would visit him with empty stomachs. We would pay for the cheapest item on the menu, a 49 cent
cookie, and he would give us all the food we wanted. We never gave a second of consideration to the
effect of our actions. My story is not uncommon, and it should create concern. Even though it is not

A code of conduct should also include the duty of an employee to report theft incidents or suspected
theft situations and that such reporting can be done so anonymously and confidentially, without any
retribution toward the reporting employee. Shoplifting Apprehension Policy: This policy should
include the company s steps on how to detect, handle and resolve a shoplifting situation. Within this
policy is most often found the Steps of Shoplifting Detection, how to handle a known shoplifting
situation and most importantly, what not to do (such as run after a shoplifter) when trying to resolve a
shoplifting situation. Retailers have lost millions of dollars due to wrongful apprehensions, injuries
and even deaths of employees, suspected shoplifters and bystanders Don t let the possible loss of
merchandise cost you greatly. Robbery Procedures: A robbery is a very unfortunate and sometimes
dangerous situation. The best way of handling a robbery is for an employee to understand how they
should act to get through the event without issue. Written policy and procedures on how to act or not
act, along with proper awareness can be the difference of a robbery becoming a very serious and

American History X Essay examples
American History X
American History X is clearly a film dealing with the social topic of racism. The interesting thing
about this film is the way in which the subject is presented. First of all, it is obvious that, though
racism is always a difficult subject to deal with, American History X presents it without any
reservations or dummying down. Second, the film s figurehead for racism, Derek Vinyard (Edward
Norton), is not an unintelligent redneck racist as films often portray them, but is in fact well spoken,
charismatic and bright, although he clearly holds ideals that are terribly wrong. Finally, the film shows
that it is not only the white, neo nazi racists who are fools for being involved in this, but all those who
hold hatred in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the young, black men were disgraced by the white male in a local game of basketball;
therefore, the black men go to do damage to the white males car, which in turn, leads to the white
male killing the young black men. It s a vicious circle with no end in sight.
The film also did a very good job in the way they tie racial issues in with the portrayal of Derek s
character as a strong and bold leader. The things that make Derek such a powerful and frightening
character is not the fact that he is racist, it is the fact that instead of choosing a somewhat regular,
backwoods, unintelligent racist as the films central character, Derek is well spoken and bright. It is
these qualities that allow him to recruit the youths of Venice Beach and form, with the help of his
mentor Cameron Alexander, the entire white supremacist culture permeating the area. Instead of just
telling them to hate black, Hispanic, and Asian people because they are of that race, he makes
speeches, telling them charismatically and passionately how these people are stealing their jobs,
causing Americans to suffer a poor standard of living. He tells them America needs to take care of
Americans before dealing with immigrants. And his speeches clearly incite this hatred in the young
people of that area and flare up their tempers, causing behavior, such as we see in the movie when
they destroy a grocery store because it was bought by a Korean immigrant who employs, 40 fuckin

The Negative Effects Of Illegal Immigration To The United...
The United States of America deals with a hand full of issues everyday, but one of the main issues that
the united states has been dealing with since around the eighteen hundreds to the present time. Illegal
Immigration is not anything to new to the United States. The United States often refers Illegal
Immigrants as illegal aliens (Gale, 2016) or undocumented workers. (Gale, 2016). Immigrants such as
Hispanics, Middle Easterners, etc. populate almost fifty two percent of the American population.
Although there are negative issues associated with Illegal Immigrants such as Jobs, and Medicaid

Society’s Greatest Tragedy Essay
In 415 B.C.E., the Greek playwright Euripides created The Trojan Women, a play that is arguably one
of the best studies of the horrific aspects of war ever written. In her analysis of the play, Professor
C.A.E. Luschnig maintains, [Euripides] has made the Trojan War stand for every war... For war is
society s great tragedy: victory is an illusion (8). While the negative elements of war portrayed by
Euripides can be found in all wars and even war s victors must suffer their defeats, there is an even
greater tragedy to society than war itself. War is but one result of the inherent evil nature of men and
women and that evil nature, not war, is society s greatest tragedy.
The Trojan women of the play were Hecuba, the wife of the late King of ... Show more content on

The Trojan Women begins with the gods discussing the punishment for the Greeks. Next, the Greek
herald, Talthybus, informs the dethroned Queen Hecuba of her fate and that of her daughter,
Kassandra. Hecuba grieves her lot, but her daughter has been gifted with the ability to see the future
and knows of the ultimate punishment of the Greek conquerors. Andromache arrives with her young
son, Astyanax, only to learn that she is to become a Greek concubine and that her son is to be killed to
prevent him from one day avenging his father s death and possibly rebuilding Troy. Next, Helen
arrives and learns that she has been awarded by the Greek army to her former husband, Melelaos, who
plans to have her killed. Helen attempts to defend herself, but finds no sympathy from either the
Greeks or the Trojans. The play ends with the burial of Astyanax, the Trojan women being dragged to
the Greek ships, and the final destruction of the city. Because of Kassandra s prophecies, the audience
knows that the Greek victors will, in the end, have no victory.
C.A.E. Luschnig is Professor of Classics at the University of Idaho and has written a number of
authoritative texts on the Greek classics (Curriculum Vitae). She maintains that Euripedes Trojan
Women has long been considered one of the greatest pieces of anti war propaganda ever written
(Luschnig 8). To properly evaluate her assertions that The Trojan Women s

What Really Happens in the End?
So in the end you can t even really regret your misfortunes because they led you somewhere, (Profile:
Alice Walker) explains author Alice Walker. The Color Purple tells the life story of Celie, who is from
the South. She writes letters to God in which she tells about her life from ages 14 to 44. In the letters
she does not complain to God; She simply needs to talk to someone she loves and trusts and someone
who she feels loves her. Henrik Ibsen conveys an example of an individual who is outcasted from
society in An Enemy of the People. Dr. Stockmann, deemed an enemy of the people, proved a point

owner and Walker s grandfather. Celie was unable to resist those who abuse her and remembering
Alphonso s warning, Better tell nobody but God. (Walker 1) Celie felt the only thing she can do is
remain silent and let others take advantage of her. Walker did not ignore the social forces that
eventually cause men to lash out in frustration and rage. Harpo say, I love you, Squeak. He kneel
down and try to put his arms round her waist. She stand up. My name is Mary Agnes, she say (Walker,

  • 2. Terrorism After Ww2 Terrorism after World War Two took on the rise of Nationalistic and Endemic terrorism. Terrorist campaigns were aimed at the security forces, and they also targeted audiences in the imperial homelands (White, pg. 161, 2012). The British government was a major player in the cause of this I believe from regions in Cyprus and Kenya. Occupation by the Brits gathered the rise of the original ethnic groups within those regions to fight against this occupation. This resulted in an uncomfortable conflict of interests with the NATO partners of the United Kingdom and Turkey, and it threatened the stability of the alliance (White, pg. 162, 2012). France also invaded North Africa and some French citizen moved to that region as a result of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 138, 2012). These long term separatists are different from the religious group as are the ethnic and nationalistic groups. They usually have a clear mission. The Basque Nation and Liberty (ETA) fought against Spain for a long time and just ended its fight in 2011. Ethnic terrorism is as its name states that it s a fight between different ethnic groups within a region. Examples of these are the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), and the Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA). They want to make a statement of the identity, and be recognized as such. Unfortunately this can take on a violent nature and become terrorism as it has in the past. Modern terrorism is associated with the 1916 Easter Black Rising, the Black and Tan War of 1919 to 1921 (White, pg. 139, 2012). Sri Lanka has suffered terrorism in the form of this type by groups of the Sinhalese, and the Tamils. Ireland had been occupied by the British for an extremely long time and this has caused terrorism in Ireland. Irish nationalists, long angered by the colonial rule of England, incorporated terrorist techniques into their revolt against British rule, and their experiences evolved as weapons technology improved (White, pg. 139, 2012). Ethnic Terrorism in separatist movements ranges through many parts of the world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Deepening Insolvency Originally only a theory of damages, the term Deepening Insolvency refers to the wrongful prolongation of a corporation s life beyond insolvency, thereby resulting in damage to the corporation caused by increased debt, dissipation of assets, decreased reputation etc. Insolvency is generally understood, from a balance sheet perspective, as a financial condition such that the sum of the entity s debts is greater than the fair value of a company s assets. What deepening insolvency cases have also focused on, however, is cash flow insolvency when a company incurs debt that would be beyond its ability to pay in future years and low capital insolvency when a company engages in a transaction or business that its capital base cannot support. When an insolvent company and its creditors are harmed by a fraudulent act or negligence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an article written by Sabin Willet, it was stated that a new loan, however onerous or ill advised, can never deepen balance sheet insolvency. Every new loan involves an infusion of capital that sets off the added debt so the insolvency remains the same, not deeper. Shareholders are not injured by deepening insolvency; their injury is total upon the initial insolvency. The dead cannot get deader. Although a corporation s creditors may be harmed by deepening insolvency, the creditors are not the corporation; that they may suffer harm as a corporation s insolvency deepens does not mean that the corporation does. If deepening insolvency were valid, a cause of action would also have to exist for diminished solvency. Not all cases agreed to the judgment of Lafferty case. In the judgment of In re Global Serv. Group LLC , though the court recognized the loss faced by the company, it refused to see deepening insolvency as an independent cause of action in tort. The court stated This may be bad banking, but it isn t a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Crime Rate Of Atlanta Essay Did you know that someone is murdered every 60 seconds in the united states? Atlanta was recently ranked October 2012 as the sixth most dangerous city in the United States among cities of more than 200,000 residents. According to Forbes the city has a violent crime rate of 1,433 per 100,000 and has experienced a violent crime rate rise of six percent in 2011 and is currently increasing. Crime in Atlanta, Georgia is above the national median and has been a major problem for the city since the middle 20th century. Atlanta has been known for high crime rates, particularly property crime and homicides. Much of the city s crime, however, is centralized in most of its western neighborhoods and scattered neighborhoods adjacent to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. These include Grove Park, Center Hill, and Bankhead, some of the most crime infested neighborhoods of Atlanta. This is alarming because Morehouse college is literally less then ten minutes from all of these places. In just these three areas alone homicide is rated 20.5, forcible rape is rated 33.2, robbery is rated 512.6, aggravated assault is rated 661.1, burglary is rated 1203.9, grand larceny theft is rated 3631.0, motor vehicle theft is rated 912.5 and arson is rated 16.5 calculating to an disgusting overall rate of 5747.4. • 9. Applying The Thin Flexible Compression Column For... This report provides a comprehensive design methodology for the thin flexible compression column for implementation into a load bearing garment. The thin flexible compression column exists as part of a larger load bearing system, which has military and civilian applications in load assist and injury prevention. This system was designed to quasi actively assist in the load carriage for a soldier (body armor and rucksack) without sacrificing safety, flexibility, or comfort. The column serves as the connection between shoulder and waist, transferring load in compression. The studies begin with the development of the initial concept, the continuous floating constraint buckling column. This concept consists of a flexible composite column, under axial loading, buckling to higher modes between rigid lateral constraints. The concept is proven by a comprehensive experimental demonstration. A dynamic FEA model of that system is developed and studied. Experimental response proved consistent with FEA results. The model accurately predicts buckling forces, lateral reaction forces, stresses, strains, friction, modal shapes, and deflection. The geometric variables of the continuous floating constraint were optimized using the FEA model, and final tests were carried out. A second more flexible concept is devised using the lessons learned from the continuous floating constraint design and FEA model. The results generated from the FEA model as well as practical considerations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Small insects such as moths, caterpillars, and snails causes damages to the plants by biting and leaving holes in the leaves. Stream bank erosion, deer, goat, and cattle browsing, flooding, and diseases causes Texas snowbells to die off. Because of their small population size, Texas snowbells cannot reproduce (Fish and Wildlife Service). Another challenge to their survival is the vegetation alteration caused by the increasing number of livestock, fire suppression, and cultivation (Texas Parks and Wildlife). Livestock are eating up the seeds produced by this flower. Grasses used to be tall, but became short because insects and animals are eating them. Since grasses are short, Texas snowbell is more noticeable to predators. Higher sedimentation loss and lower run offs is a result of the change in grass size, destroying the cliffs where Texas snowbells grow (Fish and Wildlife Service). Their habitat is being destroyed, reducing their numbers drastically. Temperatures in the Edwards Plateau are hot to the plant, causing them to die because of heat (Fish and Wildlife ... Each poem has a dominant figurative language that the reader may pick up as they read the literatures. According to Clark, authors frequently develop mental pictures through the use of symbolism (Clark). In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, for example, one can automatically perceive that Angelou utilized symbolism. Other than the birds representing the human race, both the sky and the fat worms symbolize the endless opportunities freedom can bring. The bars of rage , clipped wings, and tied feet, however, are all restraints of what keeps the second bird from discovering what the world has to offer. Just as we cry out for help or attention when we feel trapped, the caged bird sings so that others can hear it, far and wide. Moreover, in Still I Rise, she mainly included similes and metaphors in almost every stanza. I am a black ocean, says Angelou. Throughout the whole poem, this is her most influential line and it happens to be her thesis statement. An ocean is commonly acknowledged for its immensity and powerful waves. In this metaphor, she is referring to her own strong and sassy personality. This sets the tone for the whole poem, which enables the reader to sense the strength of Angelou s persistent character. Lastly, when reading Phenomenal Woman , she employs hyperbole when she describes how men react to her presence. Her inner beauty either makes the men stand or fall down on their knees and it causes them to swarm around her like a hive of honeybees. This emphasizes how much her inner mystery attracts those around her. Her inner mystery is another example of a hyperbole, because of the fact that men and women wonder what makes her so alluring. In between the handheld shots that progress through the city, there are shots of people that are vulnerable or hurt. There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench, possibly an index pointing at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying for his mother, and footage that seems to be from during the war, intercutting with shots of a bird s wings. Bird s wings are symbolically associated with angels, and these shots intercut with shots of war and destruction, linking the two together, the angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer understands the shots in the montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees all that pain and carries the burden of comfort. Imagine that you re in my shoes, with the knowledge that there is not a Quiznos in operation (that you know of) within 150 miles. Then you see it: the Quiznos sign. So what is the most important thing in a restaurant? You d think it would be food. In a talk given by Thomas Keller, a restaurant owner, about what excellent food does to a restaurant, Mr. Keller talks a lot about the quality of food, and a customers experience. The experience that one has in a restaurant is something that should be completely about the consumer. • 39. Learning A Second Language Education Essay We live in a world surrounded by people of various cultures, countries, and ethnicities, who all speak different languages. As a young child, I attended a Spanish immersion program through my pre school and elementary school. I was absorbed into a new culture much different from my own. I grew up learning words in Spanish before I knew them in English. I also developed unexpected friendships, spending much of my childhood in Spanish speaking households. As a college student, I look back on this time and greatly appreciate the skills and lessons I cultivated from learning a second language. Second language education should be required in elementary schools. Learning a second language leads children to become successful students with prosperous futures and connects people of different cultures. Studies have shown that students who receive second language education do better on standardized tests. A study conducted by P.W. Armstrong and J.D. Rogers in 1997 declared that third grade students who received thirty minute lessons in Spanish three times a week, scored higher on the Metropolitan Achievement Test in the subjects of math and language than their peers who did not receive Spanish education (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Another study that took place in 1981 by P.A. A landscape painter tended to be a recluse, an individualist, and a Daoist (Morton and Lewis 2005). These artists thought of landscape painting as the grandest and most satisfying way to represent nature as a whole, to feel a sense of communion with nature, and to know oneself to be part of an orderly cosmos (Morton and Lewis 2005). Thus, one can see the implications of landscape painting lay not just in its beauty and simplicity, but also in its spiritual connection with Nature, and thus had wide appeal. The point of view in landscape painting was also of paramount importance. The Chinese artists understood that Western artists took in scenes from five or six feet from the ground. Chinese artists worked from a raised viewpoint, so that they are not bogged done by small details in the front and get a better sense of the whole scene (Morton and Lewis 2005). Every part of the image that is created has its own innate interest, and yet it all comes together and works well as a whole (Morton and Lewis 2005). It is clear that landscape painting was a cherished and important art form in Song Dynasty culture. Dramatic arts became an essential and esteemed form of entertainment during the Song Dynasty. The Chinese theater ran the gamut of all possible kinds of play or composition.
