Cholera In Haiti
Haiti is currently facing several major challenges, and as a third world country has been adversely
affected by them. An earthquake and a recent hurricane, as well as government corruption and
poverty, have further contributed to Haiti s situation. There is a lack of medical resources and
treatment, so disease spreads quickly and impacts all areas of the country. Haiti s choleraepidemic is
one of the most devastating crises it is currently battling. To begin with, although cholera broke out
only a few years ago, its impact has been widespread and debilitating. Cholera first broke out in
Haiti a few months after the catastrophic earthquake in 2010 when United Nationstroops from Nepal
dumped their human waste into Haiti s Artibonite River,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, potential solutions to cholera that are being tested are not successful in eliminating the
disease. Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors Without Borders, treated half of the cholera
victims when the sickness first hit in 2010. Another solution is to immediately treat those with
symptoms, because if symptoms are caught early on, and fluid and electrolyte amounts are
rebalanced, then the disease reverses. This is done by using an oral rehydration formula made
of a grain base and electrolytes. A patient takes sips of this until he becomes hydrated again.
Also, cholera is a bacterial disease, so antibiotics can aid in recovery ( Cholera ). Moreover, The
Water Project is providing financial support to restore wells so Haitians can have access to clean
water (Sentlinger). One proposed solution is to educate Haitians about the importance of sanitation
and hygiene as various relief organizations help repair damaged buildings and facilities destroyed
by the recent hurricane. Haiti began a vaccination campaign recently to attempt to vaccinate half of
the country s population. However, it is difficult to track where the doses of the vaccine go, and to
further complicate the situation, there is currently a worldwide shortage of the cholera vaccine.

International Monetary Fund
The IMF s primary purpose is to ensure the stability of the international monetary system the system
of exchange rates and international payments that enables countries (and their citizens) to transact
with one other. This system is essential for promoting sustainable economic growth, increasing
living standards, and reducing poverty. The Fund s mandate has recently been clarified and
updated to cover the full range of macroeconomic and financial sector issues that bear on global
stability. The IMF was established at the Bretton Woods conference in 1944 to provide short term
financial assistance to countries experiencing problems with their trade deficit or other Balance of

The IMF Board of Governors is composed of representatives of the 185 member countries. The
Executive Board has 24 members that usually represent a coalition of like minded countries in one
representative. Lending decisions are made with consensus in a simple majority vote. Structural
decisions require 60% majority where, G 5 countries collectively can nearly veto since they
currently have 38% vote. Fundamental structural decisions e.g. changes in voting power require
85% majority; US has enough voting power to veto ( gt;15%). Economic nationalists would say that
the IMF voting structure enables powerful countries to promote their own national interests.
Structuralists would say rich capitalist countries have the most voting power which is to the
detriment of the developing countries. Embedded liberals would say that the type of conditions
IMF imposes and the aid it provides helps troubled countries get back on track, stimulates their
economy and gets the trade balance in equilibrium. In December 1997 the IMF announced a $57
billion loan package to bail South Korea out of its financial crisis accompanied by strict conditions.
Some short term conditions were to reduce government spending, increase taxes and raise interest
rates. Longer term structural reforms were also mandated: liberalizing foreign investment policies,
opening domestic financial markets, implementing western lending standards, closing insolvent
banks, reforming labor laws and reducing import

Danakil Depression s Mirror And Seeing Mars Stare Back
New York Times publisher, Amy Yee in her article Gazing Into Danakil Depression s Mirror, and
Seeing Mars Stare Back suggests that places on Earth have the same characteristics as that of other
planets and moons in our solar system. She supports this by stating that the region has extreme
climates not too different to Mars climates. Yee s purpose is to portrait that places with extreme
environments on Earthcan help prepare us for the environments of other planets. She takes on a
scientific tone for people interested in the geography of other planets.
First of all, Amy supports that there are places on Earth that can compare to other planets by stating
that the climate of the Danakil Depression has extreme climates that are not very different

Impressionism By Mary Cassatt
Impressionism
Impressionism by definition is: a style or movement in painting originating in France
in the 1860s, characterized by a concern with depicting the visual impression of the
moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color. But I think that
impressionism gives off more of a feeling, and I think that it sets a mood. I think that
impressionist paintings all have a flow to them and they are very elegant and classy.
The impressionist era started in the 1860s, and ended in the 1880s. It developed in
Paris, and spread throughout Europe. At the time, paintings of still life s and landscapes
were not valued. So impressionist paintings brought about a very new change in the art
world. But in the early 1860s, more and more artists began to discover their interests in
impressionist paintings. These artists brought us the incredible pieces of impressionist
art we have today.
One of the artist s I would like to address is Mary Cassatt. She was born on May, 22,
1844 in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, United States. She was born into an upper
middle class family, that was well educated, and had a profound influence on her. Mary
traveled all over Europe as she grew up. She learned German and French and also had
her first art lessons while she was traveling abroad. It is most likely that her first
exposure to art was at the Paris World s Fair in 1855. Her family objected to her

Managing A Diverse Workforce Assists
Managing a diverse workforce assists in creating a vivacious and assorted business team with
opportunities and challenges for people of all aptitudes and experiences, besides host country
nationals. In addition, by managing a diverse workforce assists in the facilitation of change in a
country s normal operating business practices. According to Hofstede s dimensions of culturemodel,
one could better understand the challenges faced by multinational managers in regards to human
resource management, leadership style, motivational assumptions, decision making, organizational
design, and how culture can affect strategy implementation (Cullen Parboteeah, 2014, p. 52).
Furthermore, one can imagine how important manger actions and behavior are in educating future
business leaders on how important it is to have a global mindset ( Social, 2014). Lastly, although
some consider the challenges mentioned obstacles, one could also consider finding opportunities in
learning and progressing as a manager by being flexible and knowledgeable about different
business possibilities and styles.
Main Issues Classified as Opportunities and Challenges Global managers may face a multitude of
opportunities and challenges of managing a diverse workforce. Considering Hofstede s dimensions
of national culture, one could imagine anyone outside the considered norm would have issues.
Managers could overcome those issues if he or she was knowledgeable about power distance,

Genealogy Of Morals By Nietzsche
Section 14 in Essay 2 of Nietzsche s Genealogy of Morals , contains rich insight, mainly about
punishment. Punishment is suppose to be the way to awaken the feeling of guilt in someone that
has done some wrong. However, punishment does not succeed in instilling bad conscience, or the
sense of guilt, on the guilty person. When someone is punished, they do not receive a feelingof guilt
. It can lead to two opposite things; either they are are able to become stronger and tougher and take
the punishment, or they have their vitality destroyed and become dehumanized. Nietzsche suggests
that when the person who is guilty sees the person that he wronged cast these acts of punishment on
him out of pleasure, he is blinded by the awful things that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is also known as the creditor and debtor relationship and is thought to be the origin of
traditional justice. This passage as soon I read it really got me engaged. I felt like this was one
of the sections I was able to truly relate to, and apply to my own life. Immediately I began to
think about some of the stories my parents have shared about how my parents were punished
when they were children. Now back in the 1960 s when they were kids, it was okay for their
parents to smack them. It was just normal in society back then. They both agreed that, The
physical discipline they received did not make them feel guilty about what they did. Instead, it
made them scared to do it again. This goes along with what Nietzsche said. My parents stopped
talking back and fighting with their siblings because they were scared of how their parents
would punish them, they did not stop because they felt bad about it. Their vitality was broken
down. I completely agree with it too. When I was a child I got it way easier than my parents did.
When I got punished I was told to go in my room and not able to have any electronics. They would
always tell me, Think about what you did. This was a method of theirs that truly was effective. As
the time went by I would continuously think about how much trouble I caused my parents no

Frictional Force Lab
The labs was about sliding surfaces and frictional force. The measurements were in Newtons. There
was different sliding surface, table top, waxed paper, paper towel, fine paper and coarse sand paper.
You will have to measure with a spring scale. You will have wood blocks to slide over the five
surface. You will have to do it 3 4 times and average it. The main thing is learned is how the
sliding surfaces creates frictional force.
In 4.1 you will have 5 different surfaces, you will have to slide the block over each surface 4 times
the the spring scale reading newtons. After when you are all you will have to average the number
you got. Like for table top trail 1(.75) trail 2(.75) trail 3( 1) trail 4(,75) add them up and divide by
three 0.81(N). The average for waxed paper was 0.43(N), for paper towel 0.37(N), fine sand paper
1.56(N) and coarse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You will double the area and keep the weight safe, than triple the area and keep it the weight the
same. Last but not least when you four times the area and keeps the weight the same. When you
double the area and same weight what will happen to the friction. Same as triple and four times
the area and keep the weight the same. I said increase because I thought if you add more the
friction will add a tiny bit more. Every area of the block came out to be 2(N). So the friction stay
the same, the sliding friction does not depend on the area. Overall , we learned sliding surface and
frictional force. Also when you slide the blocks over different surfaces. The force can stay the
same, increase and or decrease the numbers. Took are measurement and meade two bargraphs, one
was in lab 4.1 how the forces increase or decrease. In graph 2 4.2, you had to graph the averages of
the overall forces. For example you will mark the depend and impend variable. Then graph the table
top and the coarse sand paper 1 block 2 block 3 block and 4

Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis
Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking
lot no car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those
with deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being
indifferent when they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with
deformities who struggle to be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in
Cathedral is more significant because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate
the way society looks at those with deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles
changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s and his own life. Carver establishes his use of
symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes that Robert and the wife would send
each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape and tell him about her life which
continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles of each other s lives (78).
This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories and feelings,
transcended the deformity itself and allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the narrator thinks about the different aspects of life Beulah missed out on with
Robert being blind and thinks what a pitiful life this woman must have led not being able to
physically see the person you love every day (79). This is ironic because Robert and Beulah knew
Robert never needed to physically look at his wife to be able to love and connect with her, all he
needed was to be with her because true love exists when people love each other for who they are,
imperfections and all. Carver s use of the narrator s statement immediately allows the reader to
pick up that it is ironic because you truly love someone for who they are as a person not by what
they are

There are many different programs that are established to keep individuals from initially using
drugs. Many of these prevention programs target juveniles. Most people first experiment drugs in
their adolescence years. Many prevention programs cover ranges of approaches and issues. These
ranges and approaches include the dissemination of factual information about drugs and their
consequences, the building of self esteem, taking responsibility for making choices, and learning
how to handle peer pressure. Many people believe that drug use is a cause or contributor to criminal
activity. Drug prevention and treatment programs may be effective at limiting or eliminating other

Community policing consist of following three key components: Community Partnerships,
Organizational Transformation, and Problem Solving. Community Partnership is the collaborative
partnerships between the law enforcement agency and the individuals and organizations they serve
to develop solutions to problems and enhance trust in police. Organizational Transformation is the
alignment of organizational management, structure, personnel, and information systems to support
community partnerships and proactive problem solving. Problem Solving is the process of
engaging in the proactive and systematic examination of identified problems to develop and
rigorously evaluate effective responses.
Community policing is has two main components the police and the community that identifies and
solves community problems. Community participants speak their concerns, contribute advice, and
take action to address these concerns. By creating a positive partnership we will need the energy,
creativity, understanding, and patience of all involved. Certain communities take longer time than
others to break down walls of apathy and mistrust so that important partnerships can be formed.
Community policing officers are able to pursue numerous paths toward achieving self regulated and
self defended neighborhoods. They have the chance of working jointly and equally with citizens.
This helps to define local problems, educating the community about the causes of crime and

Annexation Of The Philippines Essay
The bald red, white, and blue eagle of American Democracy is coming for you Phillipines, run

with the idea of democracy, and he wanted every country to have a little taste of American
freedom! After America s victory in the Spanish American War, George Dewey and his 11,000
American troops marched into manila and were unsure whether to liberate or occupy the filipino
people. Thinking the they were here to help, the Filipino rebels trusted the Americans, but were
soon betrayed as Dewey decided to occupy the land. The United Stateshad three choices to
determine what they wanted to do with the Philippines: Give it back to Spain, Give the filipino
people their freedom, or to annex the whole country itself. With much debate ranging from artists,
influential citizens, and government officials, the US ultimately decided it would annex! The
United States should not have annexed the Philippines but rather should have given them their

Hamhocks And Flakehead Case Summary
Hamhocks and Flakehead would be able to show that CBC and its reporter Dan Blather invaded
privacy by intrusion by looking at the elements of intrusion, the expectations of privacy, the areas
of concern, private places and posing. First off, the elements of intrusion state that one may be
liable for invasion of privacy if one intentionally intrudes. In this case, it can be determined that
Blather intruded on the workspace and privacy of Hamhocks and Flakehead because he was sent
there as part of his reporting job. Blather did follow the defined elements of intrusion, which also
include intruding upon the solitude or seclusion of another or his private affairs and concerns in a
way that would be a highly offensive to the reasonable person.... Show more content on

This section also states that since employees and patrons of businesses, such as Hamhocks and
Flakehead, have privacy rights, they can sue for intrusion. Areas of concern under intrusion
include surreptitious recording and photographing, which is exactly what Blathers did. While
Nirvana allows the use of hidden microphones, it prohibits the surreptitious photographing of
people in places where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy. As explained earlier, the
plaintiffs had a reasonable expectation of privacy since they were in a closed office space
talking to someone they believed to be a coworker, and Blathers was found to be photographing
the area. Lastly, looking at posing, it s easy to see that Blathers is at the wrong here. By posing as
an employee instead of a reporter, Blathers can face charges such as fraud along with intrusion.
Posing goes along with intrusion, and since the first amendment does not protect reporters who
break the law to gather news, Blathers would be found guilty of

The Next Phase Of Ending The Cold War Essay
The Next Phase in Ending the Cold War
The date is October 27, 1962, and it is a brisk fall day in Michigan. Normally, I could hear
children playing outside of my office window but not today. Today, all that I can hear is wind
passing through the city and the feeling of despair resonates throughout the populace. The
blockade went up two days ago and I want to believe that it will be enough to subdue the
U.S.S.R. forces but I am unsure if the blockade will hold. President Kennedy is entirely against
using first strike measures because he does not want to enter another unnecessary war, however
most citizens have lived in a state of panic and distress. The citizens believe that the strikes would
be bad, but they would end the restlessness that can be felt even in the smallest of children. The
biggest conversation politically is that President Kennedy is not fit to be president of the United
States of America, due to his age and the recent failure, The Bay of Pigs .
Conflict between Cuba, U.S.S.R, and the United States present two conclusions: These nations
begin a nuclear war with few to none survivors or these nations do not participate in a nuclear
war and everyone lives. I have been tasked with dealing with two scenarios: The first scenario is
if we decided to strike Cuba, what does the day after look like. The second scenario is that if we
wait and the United States is hit with a nuclear weapon from Cuba, what does October 28, 1962,
look like for an average American.

A Raisin Of The Sun
When I first read A Raisin in the Sun I thought it to be quite humorous and lighthearted. However
after reading it again for a second time I noticed that while it is humorous, it is also set in a time
where things were far from lighthearted for African Americans. This particular play was set in the
1950 s which was a very difficult time for the United States in regards to racerelations. I thoroughly
enjoyed this story not only because of the controversy within the family unit but also because at
the end of the play the family made do with what they had and cared for each other regardless of
mistakes made along the way. In my opinion the underlying message is that blood is thicker than
water, or in this case money. Set in the 1950 s, A Raisin in the Sun is about an African American
family, the Youngers, living in Chicago. The Youngers have received a check for $10,000 from the
late Mr. Youngers life insurance policy. Each family member has their own idea of what to do with
the money but the main character, mama, wants to buy a house because it was a dream that she
shared with her late husband. As you can imagine, this results in turmoil for the family. Mama s son
Walter wants to invest the money into a bar. Mama s daughter Beneatha wants to use the money to
cover her costly medical school tuition. The turmoil continues to grow when mama makes a down
payment on a house that just so happens to be in a predominantly white neighborhood. Shortly
afterwards, a man named Mr.

Returning to Montevideo, he formed the Italian legion. In the next year, still in Uruguay,
Garibaldi took leadership of a newly formed Italian legion at Montevideo, the first of the Red

engagement at the battle of St. Antonio in 1846, his fame reached all the way to Europe, and in
Italy a sword of honor was proudly given to him (Denis Mack Smith 1). Now Giuseppe Garibaldi
was in charge of the battle of Montevideo in 1847, but only for a short time. He later came to the
attention of Alexandre Dumas Pere. Garibaldi also greatly impressed other foreign observers as
an honest and capable man. When he was in South Africa, he did not get any skills off the tactic
of warfare called guerrilla warfare. Which he later used as his tactic to defeat French and Austrian
armies. These first achievements in the cause of freedom cast him into the person he was, an
individualist who all his life continued to act as if life were a unending battle for freedom (Denis
Mack Smith 1). He prepared to return to Italy upon receiving news of the incipient revolutionary
movement. In

Saint Thomas Aquinas was a great saint who was born in 1225, Roccasecca Italy and died on

Essay on My Personal Philosophy of Education
Philosophy of Education
Relating my reasons for becoming a teacher was not a very difficult task for me; to accomplish
this task I simply needed to reflect upon and describe some of my own personal experiences. I
relied basically upon my memories and thoughts about my own educational experiences. However,
describing my philosophy of education was much more difficult task for me to accomplish. First of
all, before I could properly describe my philosophy, I realized I needed a working definition of the
concept of philosophy. My search for this working definition of the term philosophy led to further
research which provided further insight into viewpoints of various well known philosophers; some
of whom we discussed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Down through the years as I played basketball, I had many different coaches and I can easily
describe these coaches by placing them within two broad categories.
In the first category were the true teacher/coaches and in the second were the true sports
enthusiast/coaches. The differences between these two categories of coaches were easy for me to
identify and, to now describe. The coaches who were true teacher/coaches sometimes were not
certified to teach professionally, but their personalities and styles of coaching were what identified
them to me as true teacher/coaches. The true teacher/coaches were not only interested in how well
I performed on the basketball court; they were interested in me as whole person. They strongly
emphasized the importance of academics and always encouraged me to do well academically, and
also to develop my other talents. These true teacher/coaches greatly influenced and will continue to
influence my decision to become a teacher. I will strive to model myself as a teacher after some of
these true teacher/coaches that I was fortunate enough to have.
Additionally, someday I also want to coach other young people in the skills needed in the game
of basketball and also in the skills needed for learning and living as my true teacher/coaches
coached me. In addition to encouraging me to do well in all areas, these coaches also emphasized
the importance of treating

How Acupuncture Affects The Body
The topic of acupuncture appears in the textbook, An Invitation to Health, Brief Edition: Build
Your Future, Eighth Edition , and is under the heading of Alternative Medical Systems in pages
447 and 448. The textbook describes the practice of acupuncture as part of ancient Chinese
medicine and is based on a belief or philosophy of energy that flows in the body. This flow of
energy directly effects the health of the individual and can be altered or corrected by the practice of
inserting thin, long needles on specific parts of the meridians on the body. The textbook then states
that it is not exactly sure how acupunctureaffects the body, but it is theorized to affect the nervous
system. In addition, the textbook covers alternative forms of acupuncture such as sham acupuncture
, where no needles puncture the skin and is said to be equally effective of lower back pain after

The Crucible Definition
Nowhere in Arthur Miller s masterpiece, The Crucible , is there a mention of any form of a
Crucible. Where did Arthur Miller come up with the title of his play? In fact he uses the title as a
metaphor for both definitions of the term. The title The Crucible can be interpreted as having
characteristics of both a crucible from chemistry and a crucible to describe hard tests and trials.
The easiest definition to explain is the physical, more literal form of a crucible. It is a piece of
laboratory equipment used to heat chemical compounds to high temperatures. A crucible can be
looked at as a small container filled with large, violent reactions; almost exactly like what happened
in the summer of 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. With all the residents of Salem jammed in that
tiny village, there were bound to be some red hot flares. If we were to compare the play to the
chemistry set up, the bunsen burner would be the same as Abigail Williams, the one who ignites
the situation; the tripod is comparable to the court system, the system that supports the situation;
the cover of the crucible is the same as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the tests to determine who is and who isn t a witch, the tests to determine one s standing with the

that the accused must undergo. As well as the inner most trials where a character s beliefs are put
to the test. The most notable character who experiences this trial is Reverend Hale; who, after the
first batch of hangings commence, escapes into the woods to strengthen his faith in the Lord and in
the faith of the court of Salem. Salem metaphorically became a crucible for every instance and

Voyeurism In The Gaze
Whether aware or unaware of The Gaze, it is a powerful institution in which the act of looking
becomes a source of relational power. The practice of fixed attention upon something that is
appealing to a viewer or that is the object of the image being viewed. The Gaze is a term made
known by Jacques Lacan, psychoanalyst and theorist. A legend to film theorists, Lacan provided an
understanding of the unconscious desire through the power of images. And how the act of passive
voyeurism merely makes one the subject of the gaze,in turn, making them the spectator. How the
spectator responds may vary but through the theory of interpellation, we can understand that the
object can also be an active player of The Gaze. Gendervisibly falls in to this theory as a major

Sexual objectification of women in fine art as well as other various media outlets has been termed

Essay On Pragmatics
1.1.Pragmatics
In order to provide the wider information on speech acts and political discourse, the short
definition of pragmatics needs to be presented, as the speech acts are deeply rooted in this
particular field of linguistics. The presented paper provides the explanation of the term based
mostly on the Yule s (1996) definition of it. Pragmaticsis field of study which very often is
connected with semantics and syntax. Pragmatics is a study that focuses on the meaning behind
the words that are produced by the speaker and received by the listener, whereas semantics
focuses mostly on the words and structures as such, and syntax focuses on relation between
different linguistic forms and its sequences (Yule 1996: 4). The term pragmatics was firstly
presented as a field of linguistics in the 1930s by Morris, Carnap, and Peirce, for whom (...)
pragmatics addressed the relation of signs to their users and interpreters (Horn and Ward 2006: xi).

The Effects Of Technology On Communication
One can never deny that society s cultural ideals have changed dramatically in the past decades.
This is, in part, due to the changes in technological advances. These devices almost a complete
necessity as of 2017, since, from personal experience, many professors require students to use
technology to complete assignments and to turn them in. The past 10 years have also allowed for
sociable machines, as Sherry Turkle, a Professor of Social Studies of Science and Technologyat
MIT, explains in her book Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age. Many
machines today can be programmed to communicate or even provide services that a human being
could do, only do so flawlessly. While these advantages can be seen as something that can only
benefit people, Turkle explains that the reality of this phenomenon must be taken into deeper
consideration when concerning how this affects people psychologically.
Turkle examination on the long lasting effects that technology can have on conversation begins
with the story of an experience she had conversing with a school who worried that their students
were beginning to lose empathy and find it difficult to connect or to make friends because they
were raised not knowing a life without advanced technology or social media. The excessive use of
technology created a sort of barrier that prevented people from joining into deep and important
conversations and from joining them without distraction. (Turkle 5) She goes beyond this

The Rocky Mountain Trail
However, as I led the group north in the direction of our unseen target the trail at times would
blend into the rocky terrain and become challenging to follow. Silhouetted against the grayish
sky to our immediate left were two rock strewn peaks that spiked into view through the thick air
above us. Stemming from the main trail a faint path snaked its way to an area between and below
the peaks and gradually faded into the rugged terrain. From previous expeditions on the Sauk, I
knew the summit trail would continue and circle north on a ridge around a rocky pinnacle directly
above the west face. For a brief moment I was nearly fooled into taking the path even though I felt
a scramble to the summit would be too soon. Feeling uncertain I continued ahead with no summit in
my sights. I made a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The voices I heard earlier in the day were a group of five with a couple of canines making their way
up the trail. After a few comments of the rain were exchanged, the group passed to continue their
ten or twelve minute journey to the top. Continuing the descent and rounding the south ridge to the
west side, a second group of three approached on the trail below. In passing, I offered that our time
from the top was approximately twenty minutes at minimum, meaning they at least had twenty to
thirty minutes to the summit. Minutes later the trail delivered us to the familiar rock wall
embedded in the mountain, and it sliced under the rock continuing on a long stretch to the second
switchback leading down. After making the estimated 325 degree turn a third group could be seen
below. The mountain, suddenly becoming crowded, felt as if traversing the switchbacks and
navigating the trail resembled playing chicken with oncoming trekkers. Who has the right of way,
and who will step aside and relinquish the trail

Animal Testing Persuasive Essay
Did you know that 100 million animals are killed annually due to animal testing ( The Truth about
Animals Used for Experimentation )? Vivisection is the practice of doing operations on live
animals for scientific research or medical advancements. It occurs all over the world including the
U.S. There are anti vivisectionists, those who doesn t believe in animal testing, and pro
vivisectionists, those who believe in animal testing (Coster 6). Animals should not used in medical
testing because it s inhumane, unnecessary, ineffective and costly.
Animals are treated immorally and inhumanely in testing facilities. Many pro vivisectionists claim
animals are treated respectfully but this is false. Experiments done on animals are violent, harmful
and sickening:
Experiments can involve: drowning, suffocating, starving, burning, blinding, destroying hearing,
damaging brains, severing limbs, crushing organs, inducing heart attacks, ulcers, and paralysis. (
The Truth about Animals Used for Experimentation )
Many of these procedures are considered mild , but these are very severe procedures which almost
always result in the death of the animal ( About Animal Testing ).
In 2013, an investigation took place in an United Kingdom laboratory. The findings were shocking.
Investigators found that tests were being done are very young puppies and kittens. The puppies
were removed from their mothers at only 4 weeks of age. They were tested and many died in tests.
Even though the mothers of the

There are also very basic applications on Google Play Store which provide some but not all of
the features I would include in my application (such as apps which can calculate fuel

effectiveness of UI which make them not practical or convenient for the use of the client. My

Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 Essay
Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 The period 1815 to 1870 was characterized by
radical change in the character of the British Empire, to the extent that, by the end of the period,
the empire consisted of two distinct parts: one made up of dependent colonies, experiencing direct
formal rule; and the other made up of self governing settlement colonies. This development
occurred as a result of a series of social, political and economic reforms. In order to judge whether
economic factors dominated imperial reform during this period, an assessment of the causes and
nature of reforms is necessary. However, while imperial reform was multicausal, great weight can
be given to the argument... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In turn, the abolitionist movement, consisting of humanitarian reformers, church missionaries etc
exerted political pressure on government ministers, creating a climate in government circles
which led directly to the passing of the abolition acts. Therefore, the first major imperial reform
of the 19th century, the abolition of slavery, was primarily motivated by social and political
factors, rather than merely economic ones. Nevertheless, underlying economic factors, such as
the cost of the slave system in regions experiencing economic decline, as well as the economic
advantages of industrialisation which caused the emergence of a new middle class with differing
views, may have contributed to the change. Political reforms of the period focus mainly on the
development of self government within the colonies of settlement. The granting of self
government was sparked by an armed rebellion in Canada in 1837 following the failure of the
British Governor to grant greater democracy, and the resulting emergence of an oppressed minority
of French settlers of Lower Canada. The Canadian rebellion was a catalyst for political reforms,
stemming from the 1839 Durham Report which reprimanded the British administration and called
for the uniting of Upper and Lower Canada to form a single

The Story Of The Donner Party Summary
Stewart, George R. Ordeal by Hunger: The Story of the Donner Party. Boston: Houghton Mifflin,
1960In the late summer of 1846 a group of pioneers started off on journey to California, later this
party would be known as the Donner Party, little did they know that this journey for a new life out
west would change life as they knew it forever. The book Ordeal by Hunger: The Story of the
Donner Partyby George R. Stewart gives an outsiders look to the trails and tribulations of the
Donner Parties journey. George Stewart was a novelist and professor who taught more than fifty
years at the University of California. George makes it very clear from the preface that he believes
that the story of the Donner Party is one of the most amazing stories that came out of the American
West and wanted to write this book to show the extreme conditions a human being can go through
and the extremes they ll take to get through it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which is very helpful to the reader because George does a great job at not only describing what
type of status quo each family is but also gives an insight to a bit of each characters personality.
In the book there are characters that seemed to fade into the background at the beginning but the
way George incorporates them tells the story of the Donner Party it can kind of shock you of
what role a person played in the survival of the group compared to the beginning of the book.
The fact this book is written as a nonfictional can come to quite a surprise to some readers. The
way the story is told with twists and turns of suspense and surprise makes it a page turner for any

Cortical Bone Fusion
Due to a powerful corrective force in the 3 dimensional plane and improvement the stability of
spinal fusion constructs[1 3], the pedicle screw has been trusted and applied by majority of the
orthopedic and neurosurgeons. But the diameter of the thoracic pedicle is small, the thoracic spinal
cord and large vessels are adjacent to the pedicle, so the screw misplacement in thoracic has the
potential for serious complications, such as spinal cord or nerve root injury, and the inferior vena

minimize these risks, multiple techniques and difference start points have been described for
placement of these implants, for example, the freehand technique[5 9], Funnel Technique[10], open

Plan of Action for Human Trafficking and Sexual Violence
Plan of Action to Combat Human Trafficking
Abstract
Human trafficking is a crime that without the proper direction will cost the human being the right
to have freedom. Every person has the right to choose and not fall into being victimized by
someone who is in the pursuit of indentured servitude. This billion dollar industry is aiding the
criminal acts such as drug trafficking and production, sexual assault, sexual rape (male or female),
and most of all abuse and neglect of all the victims involved. Most people want to believe that
human trafficking is non existent and only happens to victims who are participating in any illegal
enterprise. The ugly truth is that most people who have been trafficked did not know the
ramifications ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So everything needs to be evaluated to make sure they are not contributing to human trafficking and
/or the death of the victim. When it comes to the labored help (farmhands, nannies, etc.), there
should be a system in place that their living situations should be monitored. This can be
accomplished by being able to go to persons residence and/or job and have conversations with them
just to let them know that if something goes wrong they have help.
An estimated 2.5 million people are in forced labor (including sexual exploitation) at any given time
as a result of trafficking (International Labour Organization). According to the United Nations
compiled report, In 2006 there were only 5,808 prosecutions and 3,160 convictions throughout the
world (United States State Department, 2007). This means that out of all the people that were
being victimized, if you had 800 victims only one person was prosecuted. That number is
absurd! So why is that so many people are not prosecuted for these heinous acts of crimes against
a human? One reason is because when it comes to what is legal or nor changes depending on
what part of the world one is in. What may be illegal here in the United States may be legal in
other countries. In some countries, the law enforcement either condones or has a hand in human
trafficking. Corrupt police can become directly involved by helping create and shield a trafficking
scheme or by colluding with traffickers by alerting them to

Hallucinogenic Drug Addiction
Human life is mostly a collection of sensations and perceptions, the byproduct of our interactions
with our environment as we do the things necessary for survival. Much of our success in life
seems to depend on accurately perceiving the dangers and opportunities we are presented with. In
the modern age of information processing, we are more dependent than ever on the perceptive
capacity of our brains. By using hallucinogenic drugs, a person intentionally alters their brain s
ability to accurately perceive the stimuli it receives, producing an altered state of consciousness in
which they have experiences with little or no basis in reality. There are many documented risks and
side effects associated with the abuse of these drugs. (National Institute... Show more content on

Corruption In Oryx And Crake
The world is a terrifying place. This harsh reality has been hammered into the malleable minds of
children and all of societies. Due to the amount of misdeeds on Earth, ultimately the people who
possess the luxury to escape the vices of mankind will tend to be ignorant toward those problems
and instead focus on themselves. Because of the segregation, there will eventually going to be a
lack of regulation controlling those sins. In Mary Atwood s future dystopian novel, Oryx and
Crake, the author presents how corruption reigns supreme in one of the most controversial human
issues, human and sex trafficking. The amount of victims in this terrible multi billionaire syndicate

The recruiters notice the terrible living conditions in rural areas, and act as a beacon of hope
towards those civilians. As a basic summary for how they lure them in, the Deshpande and Nour
answer Sex traffickers may often approach families living in poverty and seek to purchase girls,
boys or young women with the promise of a better life in a richer nation. (2). This strongly
parallels with Atwood s depiction of this ethical dilemma. The way one of the recruiters, who
the readers eventually come to learn that his name is Uncle En, approaches Oryx s village in a
trusting manner. In the Oryx chapter, she recounts that He was the villagers bank, their insurance
policy, their kind rich uncle, their only charm against bad luck. And he had been needed more
and more often because the weather had become so strange and could no longer be
predicted...and the crops were suffering (118). The fashion of how he befriended Oryx s
shantytown seems to be of wholesome purity and kindness. Not only was he the villagers bank but
he was also the kind rich uncle . The villagers ultimately respected him because he provided them
hope for them to proper despite their social standing. It is like he is the hero that the village needs.
Yet, he understands that the town is gradually becoming more reliant on him because of the terrible
weather that is eradicating their source of income, the crops. Uncle En, like modern traffickers
today, take this as an initiative to gather in the children into their organization. They prey upon the
poor stricken people not in a belligerent way, they strategically interact with them in a innocuous yet
manipulative way. The way these employers act around their future employees strike a similar
connection with the world today. According to Standiford, Traffickers and/ or pimps commonly

The Papacy s Reign Over The Masses
The Papacy s Reign Over the Masses During the Middle Ages, the rise of the Church s influence
was made apparent through the many glaring acts of power that took place. Whether it be a
crusade on a far off land, or a local kingdom challenging the Papacy in ways such as electing their
own bishops, they were a force to be reckoned with. It was in their best interest to control as
many people as possible, working to gain power over the masses. The Papacy persuaded the
common people to fear and support them through expulsion of outsiders, actions in gods will, and
prosecution of the evil people within a society. Non Christians in the community were often
ostracized and persecuted for the benefit of those in power. During one of the Church s many
reformations, a solid social border was created between the Jewish and Muslim people and the
Christian community. It was decreed by Pope Innocent III that Jewsand Saracens of both sexes in
every Christian province...shall be marked off in the eyes of the public from other peoples through
the character of their dress (Sources, 58). Laws directed just at these select group of people by the
church showed an abundance of power on their part, preventing outsiders from mixing with the
Christians. These laws were developed by the Pope and his followers during the Fourth Lateran
Councils, which took place in order to strengthen the idea of Christendom, which is a term that
explains the times when the Church acts as the state. During

An Ethical Dilemma Of Tube Feeding
An Ethical Dilemma of Tube Feeding There are times that self determination has opposition with
the values and beliefs of health care providers. The five step ethical decision making model is in
place for patients that are unable to make their own health care decisions due to incompetency;
paternalism is not the method used anymore. In relation to health care, paternalism manifests
itself in the making of decisions on behalf of patients without their full consent or knowledge.
(Burkhardt Nathaniel, 2008). Value systems, which includes a patients and family morals, play a
factor in ethical decision making. Background Ann is seventy seven year old that was diagnosed

she and her husband Frank discussed their wishes should anything happen to them. Ann stated
she would not want to be hooked to a breathing machine if she had no chance of survival and no
papers were ever signed regarding this. Frank sincerely loved Ann, they were married for sixty

  • 2. Cholera In Haiti Haiti is currently facing several major challenges, and as a third world country has been adversely affected by them. An earthquake and a recent hurricane, as well as government corruption and poverty, have further contributed to Haiti s situation. There is a lack of medical resources and treatment, so disease spreads quickly and impacts all areas of the country. Haiti s choleraepidemic is one of the most devastating crises it is currently battling. To begin with, although cholera broke out only a few years ago, its impact has been widespread and debilitating. Cholera first broke out in Haiti a few months after the catastrophic earthquake in 2010 when United Nationstroops from Nepal dumped their human waste into Haiti s Artibonite River,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, potential solutions to cholera that are being tested are not successful in eliminating the disease. Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors Without Borders, treated half of the cholera victims when the sickness first hit in 2010. Another solution is to immediately treat those with symptoms, because if symptoms are caught early on, and fluid and electrolyte amounts are rebalanced, then the disease reverses. This is done by using an oral rehydration formula made of a grain base and electrolytes. A patient takes sips of this until he becomes hydrated again. Also, cholera is a bacterial disease, so antibiotics can aid in recovery ( Cholera ). Moreover, The Water Project is providing financial support to restore wells so Haitians can have access to clean water (Sentlinger). One proposed solution is to educate Haitians about the importance of sanitation and hygiene as various relief organizations help repair damaged buildings and facilities destroyed by the recent hurricane. Haiti began a vaccination campaign recently to attempt to vaccinate half of the country s population. However, it is difficult to track where the doses of the vaccine go, and to further complicate the situation, there is currently a worldwide shortage of the cholera vaccine. Typically two ... • 3. International Monetary Fund The IMF s primary purpose is to ensure the stability of the international monetary system the system of exchange rates and international payments that enables countries (and their citizens) to transact with one other. This system is essential for promoting sustainable economic growth, increasing living standards, and reducing poverty. The Fund s mandate has recently been clarified and updated to cover the full range of macroeconomic and financial sector issues that bear on global stability. The IMF was established at the Bretton Woods conference in 1944 to provide short term financial assistance to countries experiencing problems with their trade deficit or other Balance of Payments issues, so they could maintain stability in exchange... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The IMF Board of Governors is composed of representatives of the 185 member countries. The Executive Board has 24 members that usually represent a coalition of like minded countries in one representative. Lending decisions are made with consensus in a simple majority vote. Structural decisions require 60% majority where, G 5 countries collectively can nearly veto since they currently have 38% vote. Fundamental structural decisions e.g. changes in voting power require 85% majority; US has enough voting power to veto ( gt;15%). Economic nationalists would say that the IMF voting structure enables powerful countries to promote their own national interests. Structuralists would say rich capitalist countries have the most voting power which is to the detriment of the developing countries. Embedded liberals would say that the type of conditions IMF imposes and the aid it provides helps troubled countries get back on track, stimulates their economy and gets the trade balance in equilibrium. In December 1997 the IMF announced a $57 billion loan package to bail South Korea out of its financial crisis accompanied by strict conditions. Some short term conditions were to reduce government spending, increase taxes and raise interest rates. Longer term structural reforms were also mandated: liberalizing foreign investment policies, opening domestic financial markets, implementing western lending standards, closing insolvent banks, reforming labor laws and reducing import ... • 6. Impressionism By Mary Cassatt Impressionism Impressionism by definition is: a style or movement in painting originating in France in the 1860s, characterized by a concern with depicting the visual impression of the moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color. But I think that impressionism gives off more of a feeling, and I think that it sets a mood. I think that impressionist paintings all have a flow to them and they are very elegant and classy. The impressionist era started in the 1860s, and ended in the 1880s. It developed in Paris, and spread throughout Europe. At the time, paintings of still life s and landscapes were not valued. So impressionist paintings brought about a very new change in the art world. But in the early 1860s, more and more artists began to discover their interests in impressionist paintings. These artists brought us the incredible pieces of impressionist art we have today. One of the artist s I would like to address is Mary Cassatt. She was born on May, 22, 1844 in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, United States. She was born into an upper middle class family, that was well educated, and had a profound influence on her. Mary traveled all over Europe as she grew up. She learned German and French and also had her first art lessons while she was traveling abroad. It is most likely that her first exposure to art was at the Paris World s Fair in 1855. Her family objected to her becoming a professional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Genealogy Of Morals By Nietzsche Section 14 in Essay 2 of Nietzsche s Genealogy of Morals , contains rich insight, mainly about punishment. Punishment is suppose to be the way to awaken the feeling of guilt in someone that has done some wrong. However, punishment does not succeed in instilling bad conscience, or the sense of guilt, on the guilty person. When someone is punished, they do not receive a feelingof guilt . It can lead to two opposite things; either they are are able to become stronger and tougher and take the punishment, or they have their vitality destroyed and become dehumanized. Nietzsche suggests that when the person who is guilty sees the person that he wronged cast these acts of punishment on him out of pleasure, he is blinded by the awful things that... This passage as soon I read it really got me engaged. I felt like this was one of the sections I was able to truly relate to, and apply to my own life. Immediately I began to think about some of the stories my parents have shared about how my parents were punished when they were children. Now back in the 1960 s when they were kids, it was okay for their parents to smack them. It was just normal in society back then. They both agreed that, The physical discipline they received did not make them feel guilty about what they did. Instead, it made them scared to do it again. This goes along with what Nietzsche said. My parents stopped talking back and fighting with their siblings because they were scared of how their parents would punish them, they did not stop because they felt bad about it. Their vitality was broken down. I completely agree with it too. When I was a child I got it way easier than my parents did. When I got punished I was told to go in my room and not able to have any electronics. They would always tell me, Think about what you did. This was a method of theirs that truly was effective. You will have wood blocks to slide over the five surface. You will have to do it 3 4 times and average it. The main thing is learned is how the sliding surfaces creates frictional force. In 4.1 you will have 5 different surfaces, you will have to slide the block over each surface 4 times the the spring scale reading newtons. After when you are all you will have to average the number you got. Like for table top trail 1(.75) trail 2(.75) trail 3( 1) trail 4(,75) add them up and divide by three 0.81(N). The average for waxed paper was 0.43(N), for paper towel 0.37(N), fine sand paper 1.56(N) and coarse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I said increase because I thought if you add more the friction will add a tiny bit more. Every area of the block came out to be 2(N). So the friction stay the same, the sliding friction does not depend on the area. Overall , we learned sliding surface and frictional force. Also when you slide the blocks over different surfaces. The force can stay the same, increase and or decrease the numbers. Took are measurement and meade two bargraphs, one was in lab 4.1 how the forces increase or decrease. Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking lot no car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those with deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being indifferent when they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with deformities who struggle to be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in Cathedral is more significant because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate the way society looks at those with deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s and his own life. Carver establishes his use of symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes that Robert and the wife would send each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape and tell him about her life which continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles of each other s lives (78). This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories and feelings, transcended the deformity itself and allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, the narrator thinks about the different aspects of life Beulah missed out on with Robert being blind and thinks what a pitiful life this woman must have led not being able to physically see the person you love every day (79). Carver s use of the narrator s statement immediately allows the reader to pick up that it is ironic because you truly love someone for who they are as a person not by what they are ... Hamhocks And Flakehead Case Summary Hamhocks and Flakehead would be able to show that CBC and its reporter Dan Blather invaded privacy by intrusion by looking at the elements of intrusion, the expectations of privacy, the areas of concern, private places and posing. First off, the elements of intrusion state that one may be liable for invasion of privacy if one intentionally intrudes. In this case, it can be determined that Blather intruded on the workspace and privacy of Hamhocks and Flakehead because he was sent there as part of his reporting job. Blather did follow the defined elements of intrusion, which also include intruding upon the solitude or seclusion of another or his private affairs and concerns in a way that would be a highly offensive to the reasonable person.... As explained earlier, the plaintiffs had a reasonable expectation of privacy since they were in a closed office space talking to someone they believed to be a coworker, and Blathers was found to be photographing the area. Normally, I could hear children playing outside of my office window but not today. Today, all that I can hear is wind passing through the city and the feeling of despair resonates throughout the populace. The blockade went up two days ago and I want to believe that it will be enough to subdue the U.S.S.R. forces but I am unsure if the blockade will hold. President Kennedy is entirely against using first strike measures because he does not want to enter another unnecessary war, however most citizens have lived in a state of panic and distress. The citizens believe that the strikes would be bad, but they would end the restlessness that can be felt even in the smallest of children. The biggest conversation politically is that President Kennedy is not fit to be president of the United States of America, due to his age and the recent failure, The Bay of Pigs . Conflict between Cuba, U.S.S.R, and the United States present two conclusions: These nations begin a nuclear war with few to none survivors or these nations do not participate in a nuclear war and everyone lives. I have been tasked with dealing with two scenarios: The first scenario is if we decided to strike Cuba, what does the day after look like. The second scenario is that if we wait and the United States is hit with a nuclear weapon from Cuba, what does October 28, 1962, look like for an average American. I ... However after reading it again for a second time I noticed that while it is humorous, it is also set in a time where things were far from lighthearted for African Americans. This particular play was set in the 1950 s which was a very difficult time for the United States in regards to racerelations. I thoroughly enjoyed this story not only because of the controversy within the family unit but also because at the end of the play the family made do with what they had and cared for each other regardless of mistakes made along the way. In my opinion the underlying message is that blood is thicker than water, or in this case money. Set in the 1950 s, A Raisin in the Sun is about an African American family, the Youngers, living in Chicago. The Youngers have received a check for $10,000 from the late Mr. Youngers life insurance policy. In fact he uses the title as a metaphor for both definitions of the term. The title The Crucible can be interpreted as having characteristics of both a crucible from chemistry and a crucible to describe hard tests and trials. The easiest definition to explain is the physical, more literal form of a crucible. It is a piece of laboratory equipment used to heat chemical compounds to high temperatures. A crucible can be looked at as a small container filled with large, violent reactions; almost exactly like what happened in the summer of 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. With all the residents of Salem jammed in that tiny village, there were bound to be some red hot flares. Essay On Pragmatics 1.1.Pragmatics In order to provide the wider information on speech acts and political discourse, the short definition of pragmatics needs to be presented, as the speech acts are deeply rooted in this particular field of linguistics. The presented paper provides the explanation of the term based mostly on the Yule s (1996) definition of it. Pragmaticsis field of study which very often is connected with semantics and syntax. While these advantages can be seen as something that can only benefit people, Turkle explains that the reality of this phenomenon must be taken into deeper consideration when concerning how this affects people psychologically. Turkle examination on the long lasting effects that technology can have on conversation begins with the story of an experience she had conversing with a school who worried that their students were beginning to lose empathy and find it difficult to connect or to make friends because they were raised not knowing a life without advanced technology or social media. The excessive use of technology created a sort of barrier that prevented people from joining into deep and important conversations and from joining them without distraction. • 51. Hallucinogenic Drug Addiction Human life is mostly a collection of sensations and perceptions, the byproduct of our interactions with our environment as we do the things necessary for survival. Much of our success in life seems to depend on accurately perceiving the dangers and opportunities we are presented with. In the modern age of information processing, we are more dependent than ever on the perceptive capacity of our brains. By using hallucinogenic drugs, a person intentionally alters their brain s ability to accurately perceive the stimuli it receives, producing an altered state of consciousness in which they have experiences with little or no basis in reality. There are many documented risks and side effects associated with the abuse of these drugs. (National Institute... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2016). Psychedelic Research. The Papacy s Reign Over The Masses The Papacy s Reign Over the Masses During the Middle Ages, the rise of the Church s influence was made apparent through the many glaring acts of power that took place. Whether it be a crusade on a far off land, or a local kingdom challenging the Papacy in ways such as electing their own bishops, they were a force to be reckoned with. It was in their best interest to control as many people as possible, working to gain power over the masses. The Papacy persuaded the common people to fear and support them through expulsion of outsiders, actions in gods will, and prosecution of the evil people within a society. Non Christians in the community were often ostracized and persecuted for the benefit of those in power. During one of the Church s many reformations, a solid social border was created between the Jewish and Muslim people and the Christian community. It was decreed by Pope Innocent III that Jewsand Saracens of both sexes in every Christian province...shall be marked off in the eyes of the public from other peoples through the character of their dress (Sources, 58).
