Analyzing the competitor s performance in the Australian market is essential before expanding its
stores in the Australian market. The two main competitive advantages for Cadbury chocolates is its
wide distribution channel and strong brand equity and customer loyalty. After establishing the retail

Reconstruction And Post Reconstruction Essay
Throughout Reconstruction and post Reconstruction eras, education has been a staple of many
political campaigns, and the downfall of others. Society thrives on education. In the aftermath of
the Civil War, freed slaves scrambled to get representatives into the government, so that public
schools for black folk might be established. All was well during the reconstruction era, but post
Reconstruction saw a heavy decline in black congressional representation, and a corresponding
decrease in support for African Americaneducation. Reconstruction helped to establish institutes of
public education in the south for both races, but, in the end, provided more help to whites than
blacks.
Prior to the civil war, Education in the south was limited to private tutors and church classes. Only

Although the Freedman s Bureau was short lived(1865 1870), it achieved much for southern
blacks. The establishment was led by Oliver Otis Howard, a former civil war general who lost an
arm in the battle of Fair Oaks, considered by some to be second only to Lincoln in the esteem of
former slaves. The Freedman s Bureau spend over $5 million supporting the impoverished, both
black and white, throughout the south. Howard also helped establish a rigorous black university in
washington D.C.
After reconstruction, people in the south clung to the notion of public education, especially African
Americans. The antics of the Klu Klux Klan had driven black people away from voting, and so as a
result, less and less Black congressional representatives remained in power. Southern states began
encroaching on African American rights as the Black Codes were enacted. In South Carolina,
Black schools received only half of the funding that white schools received, while in North
Carolina, Black schools received as little as one tenth of the funding that white schools

The Economy And Government Of Italy
Introduction Italy is located in south central Europe and makes up approximately 0.84% of the
world s population. The Mediterranean Sea and the Alps surround Italy, along with the Fertile
Po Valley. The country is known to have a Mediterranean climate (Countries and Their Cultures).
The main language is Italian; however, German and in some parts French is spoken as well.
Rome has been the capital since 1871 and is where the Catholic Church is centered (Countries
and Their Cultures and Italy ). Overall, this report will outline the economy and government of
Italy, as well as the education system, the culture and class, and their business practices. The
conclusion will outline whether Italy would be a successful place to bring a business. Economy
The economy has grown a fair amount over the years. Once being strictly agricultural, it has
changed to become a more industrial economy. The country s industrial economy was ranked as
the world s seventh largest market economy ( Economy ). The country belongs to a couple
global unions such as, The European Union and the Group of Eight, ( Economy ). Even though
the country does have a lot of land, most of it is not useable for farming. Because there is little
land for farming, they do not have a lot of natural resources. Low amounts of iron, coal, and oil are
found there. The low amounts will not supply the country forever, but there is a large amount of
natural gas found in the Po Valley. The country is low on energy,

Preventing The Pregnant Adolescent Prevent Her Baby From...
This paper will look at the various ways to help the pregnant adolescent prevent her baby from being
born with low birth weight. The nurses role in teaching the adolescent mom to be, the different
implications of safety, communication, education, challenges, interventions, and nursing care as
they pertain to her pregnancyand the risks she and her baby face. The causes that put the
adolescent at risk for these complications will also be reviewed. Lastly, patient education and
methods of teaching by the nurse to the adolescent of these risk factors will be discussed.
What is low birth weight? Why is it an issue? What are the risk factors for babies born with low
birth weight? According to Pillitteri (2014), low birth weight is a baby born weight under 2500
grams (p. 708). Babies that are considered to be LBW can be preterm or full term.
Ryan et al. (2011), reported that:
LBW can arise from two conditions: preterm birth ( 37 weeks gestation) or intrauterine growth
restriction. Fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality are strongly related to LBW. During
development, children who were born with a LBW may experience stunted growth, cognitive
problems, and chronic diseases in later life. A multitude of determinants influence gestational age
and growth of the fetus, which in turn cause LBW. These include socio economic, behavioral, and
physiological determinants such as nutrition, poverty, and gestational weight gain. (p. 588).
According to Chen et al. (2009),

God merely inhabiting the body of Christ. Along with argument for the existence of God. Aquinas

external fellowship with God. Many religious statements, including those about God, are neither
tautological nor empirically verifiable. Philosophy of religion draws on all of the major areas of
philosophy as well as other relevant fields, including theology, history, sociology, psychology, and
the natural sciences. Aquinas had five point on Natural Laws: пЃ¶God designed natural law so that
humans participate in God s eternal law. пЃ¶Good is to be done and pursued, and evil is to be

The Theory Of Consumer Behaviour
One of the biggest theories within the field of consumer behaviour is the theory that people buy for
status that products bring them; often buying products not for that they do by instead the
connotations behind the product (Solomon and Rabolt (DATE), with Cave (2001) stating that
products have a symbolic purpose, giving the consumer a sense of identity, with consumers
believing that the purxhase will allow themselves to be perceived differently by other people.
Survey results showed that a substantial amount of people had made purchases from luxury brand
with 51% of respondents having made purchases from Chanel, and 43% from Yves Saint Laurent.
As well as this many had made purchases outside of the realm of cosmetics with only 20% stating
that they had not made any luxury purchases. Dubois and Paternault (DATE) state that only a
minority of consumers buy luxury names that they do not know, this was reflected when asked
what luxury cosmetics brands were participants aware off; the most popular being Chanel, Yves
Saint Laurent and Dior with the three same brands ranking at the top three for the most cosmetics
purchases. Distinctive logos and packaging make it more likely that consumers will be cued by a
sight of a product (Cave, 2001, p.37). When queried about the hypothsis that consumer enjoy the
environment of a product more than the product itself, interviewees gave similar responses;

The Prosecutors Firearm Identification Testimony
The prosecutors firearm identification testimony for the case was poorly executed which allowed
Waite to reexamine the bullets from the case and what he found was the rifling markings did not
match up with the bullets that were test fired from Steielow s gun. They determined that Stielow
was not guilty due to the conclusion that his firearmwas not used in the crime. Following this case
Waite was inspired to develop a systematic process for documenting ballisticsinformation to avoid
making mistakes in later cases. After this Waite began to travel to different firearm manufacturers
to document the process of creating the firearms to study the different characteristics in each. As
firearm production began to become more advance and higher quality in the assembly process it
opened more ways for investigators to attack firearm crimes. The range of evidence that can be
recovered from a firearm involved case can be as small as a bulletfragment that holds the rifling
markings from the firearm to the firearm itself. The firearm itself is a highly anticipated form of
evidence that investigators will search for because of the information it can possess. The firearm
itself can hold many different forms of evidence such as the firearm serial number. In 1968 the
United States passed the Gun Control Act, which obligates that all guns manufactured or imported
to the USA must obtain a serial number ( Gun Control Act | ATF , 2016). If the firearm possesses a
serial number it will allow

Dual Engineering And Integrated Product Development
Question #1) Concurrent engineering (also known as simultaneous engineering and integrated
product development (IDP)) was originally defined in 1988 by the Institute for Defense Analysis
(IDA) in its report The Role of Concurrent Engineering in Weapons System Acquisition (Stark,
1998). This practice is opposite to consecutive engineering, where various components of a business
(such as marketing, manufacturing, and design) are siloed with one another. Consecutive
engineering leads to a throw it over the wall mentality, as one business component such as
marketing performs the tasks required for its division and then would send it down the line to
design. This fragmented business structure leads to quality issues in the product development,
which results in greater cost and slower development (Stark, 1998). In addition, a company can
expect with consecutive engineering to have many engineering changes occur, issues with
production, and lower product competiveness. These engineering changes can negatively affect the
cost of the product, as a change that occurs much farther down the process will have higher scrap
and rework associated with changes that occurred earlier in the product conception. Figure 1:
Concurrent Engineering Overview (Information Systems Planning Corporation) In stark contrast,
as evidenced in a simplistic viewpoint from Figure 1, concurrent engineering brings together these
various departments in product development, and utilizes multidisciplinary

movements. But also, one of the most devastating events in the modern history, WWI. However,
for one to look at what Arts and Crafts movement have brought to the world of art, and compare it
to Bauhaus, would not believe how similar the ideas of both men were. As a result of the industrial
revolution, Morris wrote about unifying artists and producers, in hope to fight what he described as
vulgarity (Gorman, 37). On the other hand, Gropius talked about the need for unifying artists with
industry, in order to bring back art which became isolated in the salons

Obstfeld and Rogoff (1995) in The Mirage of fixed exchange rate attack the fixed exchange rate.
They encourage policy authorities to avoid relying for their credibility on an asset price
(exchange rate) which is dynamic by the people s expectations. In the next section, we will detail
the advantages and disadvantages of floating and fixed exchange rate regimes. The possible
exchange rate regimes are on a flexibility continuum of exchange rate regimes which Frankel
(1999) describes in nine categories from the most rigid (the currency union) to the least (the clean
float):
1.The Currency Union: two or more countries share the same currency. If a country abandons its
own currency and circulates the anchor currency, it is called the Dollarization. It is not only
applied to usage of the US dollar, but generally to the use of any foreign currency as the national
currency. For example Ecuador, El Salvador and Panama are in a currency union with the US
dollar. It is the firmest fixed exchange rate regime.
2.The Currency Board: in contrast to a currency union, the country has its own currency at a fixed
rate of exchange. It maintains unlimited convertibility between its currency and the anchor
currency. In a currency board, the central bank must have enough foreign currency reserves to
response to the people s will to exchange their local currency and to be able to back each unit of
the domestic currency. Similar to a currency union, in a currency board, the

Case Analysis Of Worldcom
Worldcom s senior management used fraudulent accounting methods to hide the company s
decreasing earnings by recording expenses as capital expenditures and inflating the entity s
revenue from 1999 to 2002. In total, Worldcom s estimated asset inflation was $11 billion. The
company filed for bankruptcy on July 21, 2002.
The WorldCom fraudresulted in a $9 billion restatement, which is the largest in history.
WorldCom s fraudulent reporting totaled over $11 billion over a period of 5 years (Rockness,
p.39) It started initially by using reserves to absorb expenses. When the reserves ran out, a
variety of fraudulent accounting activities were used to enhance the company s revenue and
decrease expenses. This was referred to as a straight forward capitalization of expenses because
there were no complex accounting rules broken (Rockness, p. 39). WorldCom s company culture
was an issue as promotions were only given to those who were willing to cheat their ways to the
top (with faulty promises, twisting reality, or stealing credit. WorldCom manipulated employees by
promoting the greatest common good for workers, shareholders, community, raising fears of losing
their jobs if they did not comply with the management s requests to falsify records (Rockness, p.

Franklin D. Roosevelt, Congress, and the New Deal
Prompt: Even though people consider him one of the most powerful executives in US
governmental history, FDR had to deal with the other branches of government just like other
presidents. How did he disagree with Congress early on in the New Deal? How did he disagree
with them late in the New Deal?
The founders certainly crafted much of the current form and function (as well as the way it was in
the 1930 s and 1940 s) with the idea that no single person or body would have too much power in
the government. Having a legislative body that must pass the laws, a President who can push an
agenda but not on his own and a judicial body that makes sure that laws pass constitutional
muster is essential to prevent unethical (or even tyrannical) events to occur. Certainly, FDR was
no tyrant. Like most Presidents, he didn t have a large swath of Congress that was eager to do
his legislative bidding like President Barack Obama enjoyed from 2007 to 2010 when he and his
fellow Democrats controlled the House, Senate and the Presidency, the latter of those four years
being when the Affordable Care Act was passed. FDR certainly was dealt a blow when the
opposing party won thirteen governorships, doubled their strength in the House and gained eight
new seats in the Senate in 1938 . That seismic shift basically but the kibosh on the New Deal s
two major shifts. the first of which happened in 1933 34 and the latter happening in 1935 38 .

The purpose of this essay is to look at the Marketing Communications Mix, clearly define the
meaning of each type and show how Coca Cola, one of the biggest brands on the global market,
utilises each method.
Belch, E. and Belch A. describe Integrated Marketing Communications as a concept of marketing
communications planning that recognizes the added value of a comprehensive plan that evaluates
the strategic roles of a variety of communication disciplines and combines these disciplines to
provide clarity, consistency and maximum communications impact .
The disciples in the marketing communications include:

Consumer oriented:
Targeted on the ultimate users of a product (coupons, sampling, premiums, rebates, contests, POP
materials)
Trade oriented:
Targeted towards trade intermediaries such as retailers, wholesalers, distributors (promotion

The Coke show sales promotion is currently running and part of the Coke side of life website has
been created for this promotion. This promotion encourages consumers to send in videos of what
they see as the essence of Coca cola to be judged by professional movie producers. Coca cola has
made use of the internet for short promotions such as the World Cup in 2006 and this new
campaign the Coca cola Show.
Sales Promotions Use:
Introduce New Products
Get existing customers to buy more
Attract new customers
Combat competition
Maintain sales in off season
Increase retail inventories
Tie in advertising personal selling
Enhance personal selling efforts
Coca Cola uses the pull strategy in their promotion. They promote to the consumers to create the
want for their product which in turn creates a demand on the retailers and then back to them. In
supermarkets and convenience stores Coca Cola has their own fridges which contain only their
products.

Disadvantages Of Chain Drive Mechanism
2.1 Definition of chain drive mechanism
The basic rule of chain drive mechanism is to transmit power one shaft to another shaft at certain
center distance with the help of sprockets and chain links.
Chain drives maintain a positive speed ratio between driver and driven sprockets. The driver and
driven sprockets will rotate in the same direction on typical chain drives.
2.2 Definition of lever drive
Mechanism
The basic rule of the lever is a rigid bar resting on a pivot, used to move a heavy or firmly fixed

sections, the Northern part which is the main part, and a smaller peninsula that is an extension to
the Southern part. Their climates are rainy and warm since they are in the Monsoon climate zone.
During May it is expected to be rainy, and sunny with a high of 89 degrees and a low of 77
degrees. Thailand is filled with big, beautiful mountains that in the North and South form the
Himalayas According to Map Fight Thailand is two times the size of Michigan.
The majority of people in Thailand are Thai which means the have a religious freedom. According

The Battle Of Lexington And Concord
By the rude bridge that arched the flood, their flag to April s breeze unfurled, here once the
embattled farmers stood, and fired the shot heard round the world... primary source Ralph Waldo
Emerson s poem Concord Hymn was written about the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Although
this poem is not a good answer on who shot first during this battle, it does open the idea about the
battle itself and makes you think who shot first. I believe that the Americans shot first at this Battle.
What happened at the Battle of Lexington and Concord? Though it has been called a battle, it was
more of a skirmish. It happened on April 19th the year 1775 in Middlesex Country, province of
Massachusetts Bay during the American Revolution. The British were marching to Concord
because of the arms depot of the Americans. The Americans were out numbered, out gunned, and
not as well trained at the British soldiers. On the side of the road there were 40 to 100
speculators of this event. When the British arrived one of the officers rode forward waving his
sword and called out to the militia to disperse and go home, as well as telling them Lay down your
arms, you damned rebels! But the Americans did not lay down their arms so the British commander
Major John Pitcairn told his men to hold fire as did the Americans leader, Captain John Parker,
who was a veteran from the French and Indian War (1754 1763). But, a shot was fired from an
unknown source. By the end of the fight eight militia men lay

The Effects Of Internet On Children And Young People
Practitioners have a responsibility towards children and young people to make them aware of the
dangers which they may face in the outside world. In school, this awareness has historically been
around issues such as road safety, stranger danger and how to treat and respond to others. As well
as being an additional resource, the emergence of the Internethas opened up a wide range of
additional threats to children. As many children now have access to a computer in their own homes
it is important for all children to become familiar with them and be able to use them with ease. E
mail and the Internet are becoming increasingly common methods of communication and this can

Although there are now steps being taken in the UK to help protect children and young people such
as Internet filters, these usually have to be requested by parents/carers. If a child is registered as
the use then they will not be able to access material that is rated as 18+.
E safety issues include potential dangerous contacts and commercial activities that children can fall
victims to. According to statistics, half of the young people questioned say they have given out
personal information (full names, ages, email address, phone numbers, hobbies or names of their
school) to somebody they met on the Internet. These children can easily be misled by a potential
child groomer who poses as another child of their age from the same area, gaining their trust and
getting close to them. They can become victims without realising as they wrongly believe that they
are chatting to other children because they cannot see who they are chatting to in the online chat
rooms that they use. The intentions of the person masquerading as a child may vary from
downloading personal photos to as far as child trafficking but in any case they pose a great threat to
children.
Statistics also show that only five per cent of parents think their children have given out personal
information on the Internet, showing the

Company Culture Influences Behavior Within A Company
Businesses do not exist in a vacuum. It is hard to even imagine one that is completely isolated from
external input. In fact, they are constantly subjected to influence from both the outside and the
inside. In open systems, a relationship exists between a business and its surroundings in which
awareness of that constant input and output is vital. In order for a startup companylike Everyday
Indulgence to move forward strategically and become successfully established, its leadership must
identify and consider both internal and external environments.

Using the example of dessert delivery service, Everyday Indulgence, setting the tone within the
startup business is especially important early on, when there are only a few employees. A wide
variety of tasks will be shouldered by a small team of people and there is bound to be a significant
learning curve. Hiring individuals with values that are aligned with the company s is a good start
and continuous training with an ever present owner/manager will further develop employee
confidence and expertise. Mentoring and training employees leads to a desirable output in the form
of both product and service, while poorly trained staff produce the opposite. Communication,
written, verbal, and in the form of daily staff meetings will foster an atmosphere of teamwork,
support, and comradery, whereas lack of communication on such a small team will lead to
disorganization and a disconnected feeling among team members. The success or failure of startup
companies like Everyday Indulgence is greatly impacted by its internal environment.
Also a powerful influence on a company, the external environment, including both the general and
task/competitive environments, refers to all outside forces that affect said organization. Some
general environmental factors are the following: laws, economy,

Proteins play a critical role in normal human function and are made up of a sequence of amino
acids that have to be precise, to allow for proper folding to a functional three dimensional structure

mutation or allele combinations can cause a change in the protein(s) coded, resulting in a diseased

/ young people with
SLCN
Introduction.
Speech, language and communication play a vital role in our lives. Without being able to talk to,
and understand other people we can t do things alike: Almost everything we do involves speech,
language and or communication
Children develop communication skills from birth. They rely on speech, language and
communication to be able to learn at school and play with their friends. They need these skills to
reach their full potential. Children begin to understand words before they can say them. They then
learn how to say these words and how to put them together to make sentences. Some develop
quickly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These words and concepts are vital for making sense of new information or ideas that they are
finding out about. Children and young people s interactions at school with adults and their peers
are crucial in supporting their learning.
Research has shown that in areas of social disadvantage, at least 50% of children have delayed
language. (Locke, A., Ginsborg, J., and Peers, I. 2002) however, it s important to note that children
and young people from all areas and backgrounds can have delayed language.
Clinical Pragmatics reflects an emerging awareness that some communication difficulties could not
be attributed to purely linguistic problems. For a long time before that, practicing speech and
language therapists had worked with children and adults whose primary difficulties seemed to lie
with the understanding and/or production of connected discourse. ( Relevance Theory and
Communication Disorders Eeva Leinonen and Nuala Ryder, 2008.)
Communication is the basis of our lives and we would in this day and age, be handicapped without
it. Everyday we are communicating with each other in some way or another, be it by using words,
actions or even expressions in conveying a message. Communication refers to the exchange of
thoughts and ideas with the intention of conveying information. The purpose of communication is
to convey one s beliefs, ideas, thoughts, or needs with clarity so as to reach a consensus or a
mutually acceptable

increasing water security. 15 Water security means having access to sufficient, safe, clean and

from both physical and economic water scarcity. One solution to tackle water insecurity is through
large scale water projects for example the Three Gorges project in China, the South North transfer

American West Art

Anxiety is an aroused emotional state distinguished by feelings of apprehension and bodily
tension present when no real danger is present ( Measuring stress and anxiety, 2011). Although
used synonymously in everyday life, they are not the same. Psychologists view stress as a larger

According to statistics, Blacks have a disproportionate representation in the prison system.
Some say that Blacks and Latinos and more likely to be charged for a crime because of their race
(Blumstein p.39). Incarceration rates between Blacks and Whites are disproportionate, with a
ratio of seven blacks to one white. This is a profound example of racial discrimination
(Gabbidon, and Greene). Most say that the main cause of wrongful conviction is corruption in
the justice system. The Justice System may convict an innocent of a crime just so someone is
held liable for said crime, and in order for them to move on to the next case. We have all heard or
read, whether on the news or in the paper, about criminal cases where individuals are convicted of

Symptoms Of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
There are many diseases all around the world that affect our loved ones. One in particular that is
common among many hospitals is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, also known as ARDS.
Originally it was called Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome but realized that was not accurate
because it not only affects adults but children also. ARDS is defined as the acute onset of
respiratory failure, bilateral infiltrates on chest radiograph, hypoxemia as defined by a PaO2
/FiO2 ratio ≤200 mmHg, and no evidence of left atrial hypertension or a pulmonary capillary
pressure (Fanelli et al., 2013) It can also include cyanosis, tachypnea, dyspnea, reduced
respiratory compliance and an arterial blood gas showing respiratory alkalosis with evidence of
hypoxemia. Out of the many pulmonary disorders out there, ARDS is one of the most difficult
diseases to manage and has a high mortality rate that comes with it. For this condition to occur,
many things have to take place in the body. First the pulmonary capillaries and alveoli epithelial
tissues become inflamed. This results in absorbency of these layers of tissues which then leads to
plasma, which is abundant in protein, to escape out of the capillaries and into the alveolar space.
After the trauma to the alveolar lining occurs, this allows fluid into the alveoli, which then results
in pulmonary edema. During this whole process damage to two different types of cells is being
done. Type I and II of the alveolar epithelial cells. Type II

hijacked four planes and planned on crashing them into American landmarks. Two of the four
planes crashed into the World Trade Center, one plane crashed into the the Pentagon, the last
plane did not make it to intended landmark but, instead crashed into a field. The terrorist attack
on September 11th could not have necessarily have been prevented but, could not has been as
severe. Certain things like lack of government communication, not very thorough background
checks on middle eastern immigrants, lack of proper preparation for possible terrorist attacks
impacted the severity of the situation. On the day of the attack and months prior the government
did not communicate effectively, so it cause the attack to be much worse. Prior to the event
police had been invigilating possible acts of terrorism that could lead to Zacarias Moussaoui,
with all of his information on his computer. Police applied for a search warrant to search through
Moussaoui s computer and were denied, eventually he was accused of being involved in the attack
on September 11th and being in affiliation with Osama Bin Laden. On the day of Al Qaeda s
attack important details were not passed on to the needed government agency. When the first plane
crashed into Tower 1 of the World Trade Center everyone thought that a small commuter plane a
lost control and crashed. When the first Twin Tower was hit police, fire, and

Essay on The Divine Secrets Of The Ya Ya Sisterhood
Rebecca Wells paints a picture of the various roles that women often must encounter in their lives:
mother, daughter, friend. As said by Charlotte Observer quot; She [Wells] speaks eloquently to
what it means to be a mother, a daughter, a wife and somehow, at last, a person. quot; Wells uses a
captivating style to create a simple plot, memorable symbolism and a reoccurring theme of
friendship. The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood
teaches about the importance of giving and
receiving loveand finding joy in everyday life.
The simplistic plot of the novel and the overall theme of love allows the author to span the lives of
the main characters. The reader sees the span of the life of two of the main characters, Sidda and
her mother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, the love between Connor and Sidda wins over the other tragedies in Sidda s life. An
important development in the plot that proves that love can conquer all appears when Vivi s
mother sends her away against her own will to a decollate boarding school away from her
friends and family. While away, Vivi stops eating and becomes very depressed, but her friends
continue to write to her and look for a way to bring her home. In the end their love wins out and
they are able to convince one of their parents(Genevieve) to rescue her and bring her home.
QUOTE Love, even in the smallest form, can sustain through tragedy and triumph the bonds of
the ya ya s : Vivi, Necie, Caro and Teensy. The story line allows the character to triumph over
tragedy and rejoice in love, simple stories no matter how impossible they feel it is at the time.
Through the course of the novel, Wells uses the strong symbol of the alligator to represent
hurtful, dangerous and painful things in the world. Vivi talks to Sidda as a young child warning
her about the importance of doing as she was told in order to avoid the dangerous things in life.
quot;Even I can t save you from all the alligators in the world...so don t push your luck
quot;(Wells 32). As Sidda gets older and becomes stronger, her mother tries to tell her that now, as
you are getting older, you will take risks. You will get into trouble as part of the growing
experience, and I will be there to

Pediatric Nutrition Personal Statement Essay
Personal Statement
I discovered dietetics my senior year of high school when my mother became sick to where she
could barely leave the house. Physicians and specialists could not explain what was happening,
until one integrative medicine physician suggested food allergies. She was finally diagnosed with
an allergy to casein, and Celiac s disease. Her diet underwent major changes, and as I helped her
adjust, I recognized the powerful relationship between food and health. Having first hand experience
with the stress of changing an entire lifestyle, I understand how nutrition affects not only a patient
but their entire family. I would like to work as a pediatric dietitian to support children and their
families, that are just as scared as my family was five years ago. The Clinical Pediatric Nutrition
concentration offered by the Duke University Hospital dietetic internship offers the unique
opportunity to focus specifically on my career goals while working towards becoming a Registered

simply knelt down to say hello to the boy and asked him about the stuffed elephant he was holding.
To everyone s surprise, he threw the toy at me and said I want nice lady to have it. The mother and
dietitian were both shocked because he had never spoken to the clinical team before. I was able to
make a difference by breaking the communication barrier limiting this patient s treatment by
treating him like any other patient. Communication and equitable treatment are important for

Western Civilization and Happiness and Justice
How can Western Civilization avert decline and promote happiness and justice? In a world of
political and celebrity scandals from the raunchy to the greedy, our culture is full of corruption
and an obsession with fame. Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Sylvia Plath s The Colossus both
explore the West s moral blindness and our paralysis of feeling and thought in the twentieth century.
Western civilization is becoming a wildfire fueled by tragic ignorance, societal norms and
corruption. This must be exposed in order for any cultural epiphany to occur.
Judge Brack is the definition of the colossus in Hedda Gabler. He is someone people trust and build
up to be an honorable and insightful leader, but in the end he is a vulgar and immoral individual
full of Dionysian corruption, and lacking any apollonian qualities. Brack throws frequent stag
parties that eventually evolve into wild nights of debauchery. He and the men he invite drink
and participate in orgies. While at night he is an unrefined sexual animal, during the day he is
the definition of justice and trust. During his interactions with Hedda he reveals his deep
misogynistic beliefs and his sense of power over her. Instead of letting her display her power
through her pistols, he treats her like a child telling her that we ll have no more of that kind of
fun today, (249). He knows that she feels trapped in the cultural norm of marriage, but he enjoys
poking at her and making her feel weak as a woman. He is allowed to go

The Collapse of the Domino --- Chinese Real Estate
With the outbreak of the U.S. financial crisis in 2008, the whole world s financial situation is
not good, but except one, which is China. However, many people find out that China is walking
on the old U.S. economic way, which means China will have economic crisis either. So right now,
all the eyes from all the countries are watching at China s economy, because if Chinese economic
collapse, there are no more people buy Japanese animations and European luxuries. And after the
economic crisis, China will recovery U.S. Treasury bonds, but American unable to pay, then the
whole world economy is facing collapse; we can call that butterfly effect. So right now, in this
context, the same conditions, and the same nature of the Chinese economy grows up, any black
swan events are likely to be the fuse of Chinese financial crisis, and even the world economic crisis
fuse. For example, the author of Chinese Citizens Have Their Eyes on Bubble, C. Cindy Fan
mentions that the fuse of Chinese economic crisis is real estate. Right now, Chinese people put all
their savings into real estate, which led to the housing bubble, but because of consumer demand,
the government is unable to stop it. (Fan) I agree with Fan s idea, which is Chinese economy will
collapse because of Chinese real estate bubble.
Consequently, whether China will have the financial crisis, the focus should be on the how big is
the China s real estate bubble, and when will it burst. As for how big is the China s real

Polyethylene Terephthalate Vs. PLA
PET(Polyethylene Terephthalate) vs PLA(Polylactide), which one is better or worse than the
other? Both of these polymer is used in the world today. PET is perhaps the more famous one
because of its cheap prices and many uses. 30 % of the global demand for PET happens to be
plastic bottles. PLA the other type of polymer is just now gaining momentum being used as a
bottle in the market today. It is derived from renewable resources (corn) that we can regrow a lot
easier than the polymer that we harvest from trees. In my opinion I think there are a few more
pros for PET then there are for PLA. We use some sort of PET merchandise every day.
Polyethylene Terephthalate is a strong, lightweight plastic resin and form of polyester that
closely resembles glass in clarity .... PET is commonly used in food packaging due to its strong
barrier properties against water vapor... PET is also shatter resistant, slightly flexible and easy to
recycle (Alpha). As stated above we use PET in everything that you can think of. If you have a

They are made by Fermenting corn to produce lactic acid, which is then polymerized to make
polylactic acid (Hitachi). It can be made into almost anything that PET can be made into. It also
does it with about 68 percent less fossil fuel resources. Making it one of the few green material.
PLA also shares a lot of the same characteristics as PET. One that only PLA has is that it is bio
degradable. The con of PLA is that it is not recyclable everywhere. There are only a few places
that are capable of breaking down the polymer. One would think that it can just degrade
anywhere; however, they require special chemicals to allow it to break down. So you cannot just
throw it out in your yard and expect it to be gone within weeks or months. Being bio degradable
still makes it better for the environment then PET. Especially if both the PET and PLA are not

Melisande gave her such a wide smile that another wave of gratification spread through Morgana s
chest. She straightened her shoulders and glanced at Merlin. He was looking at her with
admiration and she hastily turned back to Melisande before he saw how pleased Morgana was by
his appreciative gaze.
I m sorry to have intruded, my lady. The young woman lifted the green silk of her mended skirt
and executed a proper curtsey.
That s all right, Melisande. Morgana gave her a cool nod. I apologize our lesson today will be

Yes. The spark of pride that always warmed her when she surveyed her flowergarden was

He looked around again at the stiffening plants. Then he crouched down, laid one hand on a patch
of bare earth, and spoke a spell similar to the one she had used.
Her eyes widened as every rose bush burst into blooms of all colours more colours than they had

competed with lilacs in all shades from white to dark purple.

The Collective Rather Than The Individual Hero
Joanna Russ argues that science fiction is didactic and that it focuses on the collective rather than
the individual hero while, Samuel R. Delany argues that science fiction is a distortion of the
present. However, they both argue that science fiction must be learned, interpreted, and critiqued
differently than other literary texts because it has its own unique conventions.
Joanna Russ s argument that science fiction in didactic and that it focuses on the collective rather
than the hero is in a plethora of works from Delany to H.G Wells. When specifically focusing on
the idea that science fiction is didactic one can look at Einstein Intersection which, like most of
Delany s novels, teaches us about racial/ethnic differences but, within this novel one could even
go as far as to say that it teaches us about the cruel treatment of prisoners and the mentally insane.
This is evident throughout the book when Delany describes the treatment of these nonfunctionals
who are kaged under lower living conditions. The argument that science fiction is didactic is also
seen in H.G. Well s The Star, which teaches us that human skepticism and arrogance will
inevitably be our doom. In the story we are introduced to a mathematician who knows exactly
what will happen when the comet gets to Earth, He looked at it as one might look into the eyes of
a brave enemy. You may kill me, he said after silence. But I can hold you and all of the universe for
that matter in the grip of this little

Initial Counseling Session
The Initial Counseling Session When a client attends therapy there are various elements to this
process. All of them are required in order for the client to gain the most out of this experience. In
doing so, this kind of song and dance is created and maintained by the client and therapist. The
nature of this dance is imperative to the clients condition and most often their life, so the therapist
must decide which concepts are appropriate for the issues the client presented with for treatment.
How do we decide what the first and the last move will be? It all begins with an initial counseling
session, the client and therapist get to know each other and learn what is necessary in order for
therapyto be beneficial and effective. What is the initial counseling session? According to Corey

Reflection Paper About Stress
For this week s essay I had the ability to learn about stress and the different categories that people
can fall into. People who experience stress more are categorized as type A people why people who
are less prone to these stresses are categorized as type B people. After talking the quiz I learned that
I scored a 267. This places me in the low type A range. This was little bit of a surprise to me
because I don t consider myself to be an over stressed person. I then thought about what causes me
stressand possible ways of being able to change my life style to help lessen the stress I experience.
In this essay I am going to share about what some of my major stresses are, how I reduce stress and
finally I will share a time when I was more of a type A person than a type B person.
When it comes to what stresses me in life it is the normal things at many college students
experience. I often find myself worrying about my grades and if I am doing well in school. One
major thing that I often find myself stressing over is if I am on track to graduate in a decent
amount of time. I understand that college is not something that can be finished over night but I
always want to make sure that I am moving at a decent pace to ensure that I wont be here for
ever. To help reduce this stress I often check my degree audit report to ensure I am on track.
Another way I cope with this concern is by making sure I talk with my advisors when it comes
time to make my schedule for the next semester. I

The Effects Of Obesity On The United States
An epidemic is happening in the United States of America; obesity is on the rise. The United
States is currently is second in the world s most obese countries with more than two thirds of
adults being overweight ( Overweight and Obesity Statistics ). Countermeasures to promote a
healthier living style are on the rise, also. For instance, Michelle Obama s Let s Move program
promotes eating healthy food and increasing exercise. The NFL promotes sixty minutes of play
for children each day to promote healthier living and establishing an active lifestyle. However,
the one area of healthy living promotion is lacking and that is food information. The United
States must change their source of food information; the food label must be changed. Currently
the food label is inaccurate, loose in regulations, and hard to read. By changing the food label to
an easier, clearer, and more accessible source of information, then the American public will have
easier access to information. Furthermore, the American public will have an easier time
choosing healthier options towards food. First off, in order to revise the food label, we need to
understand how it is supposed to work. The food label was develop, and is currently regulated by
the Food and Drug Administration since 1993 (Rosso Grossman, Food Labels ). The food label is
currently has four requirements. The first is the principal display panel. This is in the front of the

Granpa Chook In Bryce Courtenay s The Power Of One
In Bryce Courtenay s The Power of One, The killing of Granpa Chook was a traumatic moment
for Peekay. His only friend at school symbolized companionship and comfort, and Peekay cared
deeply for him. It was amongst the low points of his horrifying boarding school experience, and
the events surrounding the chicken s death displayed the cruelty of the world to Peekay. Most
importantly, however, it revealed the extreme loyalty and bravery of the future welterweight
champion. Granpa Chook may have been a mere chicken to the uninitiated, but was important to
Peekay. Granpa Chook seemed to be the only friendly face to him, even if it was poultry. This was

Before the makeshift firing squad shot Granpa Chook, Peekay was seized by panic. Kill me!

Comparison Of Nonviolent Uprising And The Mau Uprising
Max Johnson PLSC 315 11/4/14
Outline: Comparison of the Resistance against British Rule in India and Kenya
My two cases for comparison are the Indian Independence movement led by Mahatma Gandhi
against British rule, and the Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya, also against rule by the British
Commonwealth. The two uprisings occurred in the mid 1900s, with the Indian Independence
movement taking place before and during World War II, and the Mau Mau uprising occurring after
the war. The predominantly nonviolent Indian Independence Movement resulted in success and
Indian self rule, whereas the violent uprising in Kenya failed in its immediate goal of the removal
of British authorities. The principal actors in both movements were citizens subjected to
suppressive policies enacted by British rule, as well as economic exploitation and social
degradation. Gandhi led the people of India through nonviolent movements aimed at dispelling the
British government, whereas the Kikuyu group in Kenya had little to no center of authority. The
two cases offer a useful comparison of the overall effectiveness of violent and nonviolent conflicts.

failure, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 4. Reconstruction And Post Reconstruction Essay Throughout Reconstruction and post Reconstruction eras, education has been a staple of many political campaigns, and the downfall of others. Society thrives on education. In the aftermath of the Civil War, freed slaves scrambled to get representatives into the government, so that public schools for black folk might be established. All was well during the reconstruction era, but post Reconstruction saw a heavy decline in black congressional representation, and a corresponding decrease in support for African Americaneducation. Reconstruction helped to establish institutes of public education in the south for both races, but, in the end, provided more help to whites than blacks. The Freedman s Bureau spend over $5 million supporting the impoverished, both black and white, throughout the south. Howard also helped establish a rigorous black university in washington D.C. After reconstruction, people in the south clung to the notion of public education, especially African Americans. The antics of the Klu Klux Klan had driven black people away from voting, and so as a result, less and less Black congressional representatives remained in power. Southern states began encroaching on African American rights as the Black Codes were enacted. In South Carolina, Black schools received only half of the funding that white schools received, while in North Carolina, Black schools received as little as one tenth of the funding that white schools ... • 9. The Prosecutors Firearm Identification Testimony The prosecutors firearm identification testimony for the case was poorly executed which allowed Waite to reexamine the bullets from the case and what he found was the rifling markings did not match up with the bullets that were test fired from Steielow s gun. They determined that Stielow was not guilty due to the conclusion that his firearmwas not used in the crime. Following this case Waite was inspired to develop a systematic process for documenting ballisticsinformation to avoid making mistakes in later cases. After this Waite began to travel to different firearm manufacturers to document the process of creating the firearms to study the different characteristics in each. As firearm production began to become more advance and higher quality in the assembly process it opened more ways for investigators to attack firearm crimes. The range of evidence that can be recovered from a firearm involved case can be as small as a bulletfragment that holds the rifling markings from the firearm to the firearm itself. The firearm itself is a highly anticipated form of evidence that investigators will search for because of the information it can possess. The firearm itself can hold many different forms of evidence such as the firearm serial number. • 11. Dual Engineering And Integrated Product Development Question #1) Concurrent engineering (also known as simultaneous engineering and integrated product development (IDP)) was originally defined in 1988 by the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) in its report The Role of Concurrent Engineering in Weapons System Acquisition (Stark, 1998). This practice is opposite to consecutive engineering, where various components of a business (such as marketing, manufacturing, and design) are siloed with one another. Consecutive engineering leads to a throw it over the wall mentality, as one business component such as marketing performs the tasks required for its division and then would send it down the line to design. This fragmented business structure leads to quality issues in the product development, which results in greater cost and slower development (Stark, 1998). In addition, a company can expect with consecutive engineering to have many engineering changes occur, issues with production, and lower product competiveness. These engineering changes can negatively affect the cost of the product, as a change that occurs much farther down the process will have higher scrap and rework associated with changes that occurred earlier in the product conception. Figure 1: Concurrent Engineering Overview (Information Systems Planning Corporation) In stark contrast, as evidenced in a simplistic viewpoint from Figure 1, concurrent engineering brings together these various departments in product development, and utilizes multidisciplinary ... The possible exchange rate regimes are on a flexibility continuum of exchange rate regimes which Frankel (1999) describes in nine categories from the most rigid (the currency union) to the least (the clean float): 1.The Currency Union: two or more countries share the same currency. If a country abandons its own currency and circulates the anchor currency, it is called the Dollarization. It is not only applied to usage of the US dollar, but generally to the use of any foreign currency as the national currency. For example Ecuador, El Salvador and Panama are in a currency union with the US dollar. It is the firmest fixed exchange rate regime. 2.The Currency Board: in contrast to a currency union, the country has its own currency at a fixed rate of exchange. It maintains unlimited convertibility between its currency and the anchor currency. In a currency board, the central bank must have enough foreign currency reserves to response to the people s will to exchange their local currency and to be able to back each unit of the domestic currency. • 14. Case Analysis Of Worldcom Worldcom s senior management used fraudulent accounting methods to hide the company s decreasing earnings by recording expenses as capital expenditures and inflating the entity s revenue from 1999 to 2002. In total, Worldcom s estimated asset inflation was $11 billion. The company filed for bankruptcy on July 21, 2002. The WorldCom fraudresulted in a $9 billion restatement, which is the largest in history. WorldCom s fraudulent reporting totaled over $11 billion over a period of 5 years (Rockness, p.39) It started initially by using reserves to absorb expenses. When the reserves ran out, a variety of fraudulent accounting activities were used to enhance the company s revenue and decrease expenses. This was referred to as a straight forward capitalization of expenses because there were no complex accounting rules broken (Rockness, p. 39). WorldCom s company culture was an issue as promotions were only given to those who were willing to cheat their ways to the top (with faulty promises, twisting reality, or stealing credit. WorldCom manipulated employees by promoting the greatest common good for workers, shareholders, community, raising fears of losing their jobs if they did not comply with the management s requests to falsify records (Rockness, p. 39). • 16. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Congress, and the New Deal Prompt: Even though people consider him one of the most powerful executives in US governmental history, FDR had to deal with the other branches of government just like other presidents. How did he disagree with Congress early on in the New Deal? How did he disagree with them late in the New Deal? The founders certainly crafted much of the current form and function (as well as the way it was in the 1930 s and 1940 s) with the idea that no single person or body would have too much power in the government. Having a legislative body that must pass the laws, a President who can push an agenda but not on his own and a judicial body that makes sure that laws pass constitutional muster is essential to prevent unethical (or even tyrannical) events to occur. Certainly, FDR was no tyrant. Like most Presidents, he didn t have a large swath of Congress that was eager to do his legislative bidding like President Barack Obama enjoyed from 2007 to 2010 when he and his fellow Democrats controlled the House, Senate and the Presidency, the latter of those four years being when the Affordable Care Act was passed. FDR certainly was dealt a blow when the opposing party won thirteen governorships, doubled their strength in the House and gained eight new seats in the Senate in 1938 . It happened on April 19th the year 1775 in Middlesex Country, province of Massachusetts Bay during the American Revolution. The British were marching to Concord because of the arms depot of the Americans. The Americans were out numbered, out gunned, and not as well trained at the British soldiers. On the side of the road there were 40 to 100 speculators of this event. When the British arrived one of the officers rode forward waving his sword and called out to the militia to disperse and go home, as well as telling them Lay down your arms, you damned rebels! But the Americans did not lay down their arms so the British commander Major John Pitcairn told his men to hold fire as did the Americans leader, Captain John Parker, who was a veteran from the French and Indian War (1754 1763). The economy of Uzbekistan is struggling to fix this problem as their economy heavily depends of cash crops which are not being produced due to the lack of water and irrigation of cotton fields. An additional problem for Uzbekistan is that their headwaters are controlled by other countries. This problem is exacerbated by the part of the world they re in and any change could easily trigger conflict from neighbouring countries. To conclude, although large water management schemes due in some cases increase water security for the intended target destination, there are many other factors which need to be considered deeply to evaluate whether the economic costs as well as the environmental and social costs are worth sacrificing for what the project will ... One in particular that is common among many hospitals is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, also known as ARDS. Originally it was called Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome but realized that was not accurate because it not only affects adults but children also. ARDS is defined as the acute onset of respiratory failure, bilateral infiltrates on chest radiograph, hypoxemia as defined by a PaO2 /FiO2 ratio ≤200 mmHg, and no evidence of left atrial hypertension or a pulmonary capillary pressure (Fanelli et al., 2013) It can also include cyanosis, tachypnea, dyspnea, reduced respiratory compliance and an arterial blood gas showing respiratory alkalosis with evidence of hypoxemia. Out of the many pulmonary disorders out there, ARDS is one of the most difficult diseases to manage and has a high mortality rate that comes with it. For this condition to occur, many things have to take place in the body. First the pulmonary capillaries and alveoli epithelial tissues become inflamed. This results in absorbency of these layers of tissues which then leads to plasma, which is abundant in protein, to escape out of the capillaries and into the alveolar space. After the trauma to the alveolar lining occurs, this allows fluid into the alveoli, which then results in pulmonary edema. During this whole process damage to two different types of cells is being done. Type I and II of the alveolar epithelial cells. Type II ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His only friend at school symbolized companionship and comfort, and Peekay cared deeply for him. It was amongst the low points of his horrifying boarding school experience, and the events surrounding the chicken s death displayed the cruelty of the world to Peekay. Most importantly, however, it revealed the extreme loyalty and bravery of the future welterweight champion. Granpa Chook may have been a mere chicken to the uninitiated, but was important to Peekay. Granpa Chook seemed to be the only friendly face to him, even if it was poultry. This was desperately needed for the young Rooinek, who endured the Judge and his council of war, [who]... The leader of this particular branch of the Nazi party was far from pleased, and ordered his Stormtroopers to execute their prisoner for such an egregious offence. Before the makeshift firing squad shot Granpa Chook, Peekay was seized by panic. Kill me! [he] begged Please kill me. But don t kill Granpa Chook! (Page 49) and was hit in the stomach by a shot from the Judge in response. After a salvo of slingshot fire, Granpa Chook, the best damn chicken in the world, was dead (Page 49.) Peekay s appreciation and high regard for his friend are demonstrated by the epithet given. It surely was gutting for Peekay to see his best friend killed right next to him, and for the first time, he realized the ultimate level of cruelty: murder of a defenseless individual. Moreover, his willingness to sacrifice himself for others appears first here but is not a one time occurrence. It was a recurring reminder of his bravery and loyalty. Within a couple of years, his bravery is exhibited again. His friend Professor von Vollentseen is disobeying orders of British Soldiers who have come to arrest him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. Comparison Of Nonviolent Uprising And The Mau Uprising Max Johnson PLSC 315 11/4/14 Outline: Comparison of the Resistance against British Rule in India and Kenya My two cases for comparison are the Indian Independence movement led by Mahatma Gandhi against British rule, and the Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya, also against rule by the British Commonwealth. The two uprisings occurred in the mid 1900s, with the Indian Independence movement taking place before and during World War II, and the Mau Mau uprising occurring after the war. The predominantly nonviolent Indian Independence Movement resulted in success and Indian self rule, whereas the violent uprising in Kenya failed in its immediate goal of the removal of British authorities. The principal actors in both movements were citizens subjected to suppressive policies enacted by British rule, as well as economic exploitation and social degradation. Gandhi led the people of India through nonviolent movements aimed at dispelling the British government, whereas the Kikuyu group in Kenya had little to no center of authority. The two cases offer a useful comparison of the overall effectiveness of violent and nonviolent conflicts. The type of uprising (violent of nonviolent) is a key factor in determining a movement s success or failure, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Britain, as a global superpower, was able to relatively easily contain the Mau Mau uprising once it got wind of the violence inflicted upon its people. The incident in Kenya helps prove the notion that violence will almost always be met with violence. For policymakers, an assessment of the two instances of resistance allows an insight into the effects of colonial rule on colonized countries, both during colonization and after ...
