common metaphors; however, Hal speaks with various extended metaphors, biblical allusions, and
strategically places his use of verse and prose while Hotspur speaks with simpler metaphors, war
imagery, and mainly speaks in verse. Shakespeare emphasizes these speech patterns to demonstrate
Hal s ability to manipulate the world to his benefit and Hotspur s extremely volatile sensibility, and
thus, proves Hal to be more qualified to rule than Hotspur.
Hal and Hotspur share some of the same metaphors, most notably, their common use of debt as a
metaphor for honor and responsibility, which indicates how they both see these values in a mercantile
fashion. In Hal s first soliloquy, he says he will pay the debt I never promised (I.2.77), a reference to
his plan to act like a drunken thief, so when he becomes king, he will seem like a greater leader. Hal
saying he will pay the debt , or him being an effective king, displays how he thinks that he can easily
exchange his immature behavior for honor and that being a good king can instantly buy the favor of
the people. Also, the word debt implies that Hal believes that the king has an important obligation to
be honorable to the kingdom. Hotspur also uses the metaphor, saying King Henry IV Studies day and
night / To answer all the debt he owes to you / Even with the bloody payment of your deaths (I.3.184
186). Because Hotspur s father and uncle helped King Henry take the throne, Hotspur believes that the

can be exchanged like goods, and they view honor, like debt, as a responsibility that must be

The meerkat , otherwise known as the suricate, is a small, furry member of the Mongoose family
(Herpestidae) that can stand upright. The creatures have round, fluffy bellies with smaller, more
slender limbs. Their snouts are small and pointed, coming to a sharp tip at the animal s black nose. It
lives in the African Savanna grasslands in groups of twenty five to fifty. These groups are called mobs
or manors. The female meerkat gives birth to two to five pups at a time, which are born hairless and
unable to see. The life expectancy for these pups is about twelve to fourteen years. The creatures live
in close knit webs of intertwining tunnels located underground in the sandy, Savanna soil. The tunnels

The legal executions first started in California when it was under the Practices Act in 1851. Then in
February 14th 1872 it was put in the Penal Code. Capital punish in counties continued until an

court. The first state execution in California happens on March 3rd 1893 at San Quentin and the first
one in Folsom was on December 13th 1895. In the 1937 s the legislature decided that instead of

A Blended Future Technology in education is not a new concept, especially at the college level.
Universities are encouraged to offer online courses, or as freelance journalist Chrissie Long and many
other experts call them, MOOCs (massive online open courses), to reach out to more students and
provide them with a more convenient style of learning (455). While MOOCs certainly have their
strengths, how far should universities go? What is the future of online education? Should colleges of
the future only offer online courses, or should face to face classes still be the primary form of
education? Blended courses, though not without faults of their own, can combine the best elements of
Because the lectures are outside of class, there is more time for discussion and clarification. The
lectures in strictly face to face courses are presented in class, so there is not usually enough time for in
depth discussions. MOOCs are entirely online, so there is no meeting for discussion. Blended courses
do meet and have time for discussions, but there are some drawbacks as well. For example, if a
student has a question that he or she cannot find the answer to, the student will have to wait until the
next in class meeting or email the professor to get the answer. In face to face classes, the student could
ask the professor immediately, but a student in a blended course would still be able to eventually ask
the professor in person, which is an advantage over a MOOC. Even though face to face classes have
more access to professors, and MOOCs do not require the student to come to campus, blended courses
remain beneficial to students because they provide more time for discussions and clarification than

The creative response I have written is a modern parody adaption of act two, scene two and act three,
scene two. The theme I have focused on is the complexities of love and the motif of love out of
balance which is portrayed throughout the play. I have specifically chosen these scenes to focus on the
romantic entanglement between Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. In these scenes Puck uses a
magical love potion to create disturbance and chaos amongst these characters romances.
My creative response adapts act two and three scenes two by modernizing the play so that these
couples each live in their own house on the same street. I have designed the creative response so that
the only way these couples communicate with each other is through the use of letters. This will mean
that they never physical see each other during the adaption. I have also introduced a mailman that
represents Puck who acts as the mechanics of the play. Since all the characters never see each other in
the adaption, I was able to create disturbance and chaos in the romances by using Puck to make the
letters appear as if they were written by a different character. The difference between the original
Midsummers Night Dream and my adaption is that Puck places the love potion accidently in the
original, whereas in my adaption Puck, for whom is now the leading character, intentional gives the
letters to the wrong address and create confusion that satisfies his entertainment needs. My adaption is
