The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
I. Introduction The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act ( FCPA ) is the first globally enforcing statute
making anti corruption effort in the world. It has been known for the broad enforcement coverage in
terms of the worldwide governing jurisdiction and anti gaming legislative approach leading to a long
time debates and discussions among practitioners and law commentators. This paper will focus on
improving one of the undefined and broadly interpreted terms instrumentality in the anti bribery
provisions of FCPA which essentially serves as the catch all legislative device to prevent gaming,
however, on the other hand, leaving problems in terms of ambiguity in interpretation. This paper will
first provide an overview of the FCPA. Second, this paper will explain the global enforcement impact
for the multi national businesses. Thirdly, this paper will discuss the importance and problems of the
term instrumentality applied in the anti bribery provisions of FCPA. Then, this paper will try to
identify the essence of instrumentality and its related problems through studying relevant cases.
Finally, this paper will offer solutions in order to solve the current problems related to instrumentality
interpretation and draw the conclusion. For the purpose of narrowing the focus of this paper, the
discussion and analysis will be mainly based on the anti bribery provisions of FCPA regulating the
issuers. II. Overview of FCPAA. Triggering Events of Enacting FCPA Back to 1970s,

The Growth of Japenese Anime
Anime was created by Japan, in the year 1917, which introduced a new, entertaining and exciting
commodity for the Japanese community to experience and witness. Japan had finally experienced its
very own cartoons, which would indulge the Japanese culture that every Japanese citizen is proud of
and admires. However, the early years of Anime wasn t its most successful, in fact it was by far its
worst. Anime could not keep up with the Western cartoons, to the extent that even the Japanese would
prefer Western cartoons over Anime. This proposed a tremendous problem for Anime industries, and
action needed to be taken for Anime to be on the map. The industry was facing competition from
legendary shows such as Batman, Superman, and Disney s very own Mickey Mouse. The hype and
passion around those Western shows was so extreme to the extent that no one can compete. But, if you
can t beat them, join them. Anime started incorporating those Western features into their very own
animations, the characteristics, the plot, the landscape, and the animation, basically everything that
helped, was taken and mixed within the old and unwanted Japanese Animations. This caused the
massive explosion of Anime popularity in the late 1960 s, as Anime no longer only represented a
culture that the Japanese already know, and the West aren t interested in, but has now introduced a
new era of ingenuity and brilliance. So what caused Anime to change over the years, and suddenly
blossom in the 1960 s? How

Impact Of The Dodge Plan
POST WAR JAPAN S ECONOMIC MIRACLE The Dodge Plan of 1948 In the year 1947, Cold War
unrest had started building up in Eastern Asia that prompted the United States of America to revise its
policies towards Japan in order to accelerate its economic recovery. The Dodge Plan conceived by
Joseph Dodge in 1948 was implemented as a solution to bring Japan back to its complete strength and
economic recovery. The Dodge Plan focused on resolving the serious problem of inflation and
establishing a more stable Japan through three policies. First being a balanced budget, followed by
suspension of new loans from the Reconstruction Finance Bank (this source of supply of money was
identified as the root cause of inflation), and lastly, reducing as well as completely eliminating
subsidies. The above mentioned policies were identified to aid in accelerating the Japanese economy.
Dodge s policies caused problems along the way in its implementation but it created a path for
recovery without the help of America. The Japanese were encouraged to economize and accumulate
capital through such a policy. The Korean War Boom The initial spell of the implementation of the
Dodge Plan caused Japan to enter into recession, which resulted in an increase in ... Show more

Combining imported technology with their domestic innovation was translated in the inception of the
Japanese low cost mass productions system. Technological improvements such as the one mentioned
above played a huge role in the country s economic growth, as improvement of technology in one
industry often influenced the growth of other industries. For instance, Japan s steel industry was
successful in improving the quality of steel used in manufacturing automobiles, due to the
technological process in the casing of parts; the automobile industry too benefited and hence could
reach a level where it could compete with its international

Death Penalty Too Harsh Punishment Essay
The death penalty is the only suitable punishment for murderers. The death penalty insures that
criminals know that if they kill they will be killed, and they are going to receive a harsh punishment.
Also it could be cheaper than sentencing a prisoner to life in prison. People feel that the death penalty
is too harsh of a punishment. Which that would be a harsh punishment but they took another human s
life. So they need to have a harsh punishment so people know they can not get away with murder. The
death penalty insures that a murderer won t kill again.

Social Service Agency At Greater Boston Legal Service
This tedtalk by Rebecca Onie was informative. The kind of organization that she mention in her
presentation was a social agency or social service agency at the housing unit at Greater Boston legal
Service that Rebecca was interning. According to Karen and Kirst Ashman (2011), Social services
may be institutional, that is, those provided by major public service systems that administer such
benefits as financial assistance, housing programs, health care, or education (Karen and Kirst Ashman,
2011, p.137). Here Rebecca got the chance to work low income families in Boston who came in with
housing issues but at the same time had other health issues too and this is when it is called personal
social service according to Karen and Kirst Ashman (2011). Personal social service is address more
individualized needs involving interpersonal relationships and people s ability to function within their
immediate environment (Karen and Kirst Ashman, 2011, p.137). Most of the time when this people
come in with their issue for example housing issue, they also have another issue which might be lack
of food and when people lack proper nutrition, they are bound to get sick or have other issues that is
wrong with them. The theory that it is based upon is Ecosystem Theories. According Karen and Kirst

Whenever you read a cancer booklet or website or whatever, they always list depression among the
side effects of cancer. But, in fact, depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect
of dying. (Green 3). Hazel Grace Lancaster frequently thinks about death and the side effects of dying.
Being the protagonist of the novel The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, readers get to witness Hazel

Background Going Into The 1970 S
Background going into the 1970 s
Starting in the 1960 s under the Johnson administration, the United States created two economic
burdens based off the Vietnam War and President Johnson s Great Society. President Johnson s
spending on the Vietnam War and the Great Society had boosted economic growth to 4.9%, and
inflation to an alarming 4.7%. Going into the next presidency in 1968, during the start of the Nixon
administration, President Nixon made a number of questionable decisions that led to the mass inflation
crisis of the 1970 s. Stagflation got its name during the 1973 1975 recession. There were six quarters
of shrinking Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while inflation tripled in 1973, rising from 3.4% to
9.6%. It remained between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because under wage controls workers could no longer get raises, giving them less money to
buy goods and services, which as a result decreases demand. Businesses couldn t lower prices to boost
demand. Neither could they raise prices, even though the cost of their imported materials rose due to
inflation and import taxes. Since they couldn t lower wages, they reduced hiring and therefore
demand. Wage price controls created a recession in November of 1973. Nixon eliminated them in
April 1974, but the damage took its toll. There were three consecutive quarters of negative GDP
growth: 1974 Q3 3.8% ( 3.8%), Q4 1.6% ( 1.6%), 1975 Q1 4.7%( 4.7%). Unemployment reached a
peak of 9% in May 1975, two months after the recession technically ended.

Changing off the Gold Standard
Nixon raised the price of gold during his presidency. This angered nations all who had signed the

the US dollar had an additional problem. As global trade grew, so too did the demand for U.S. dollar
reserves. For a time, the demand for US dollars was satisfied by an increasing

Controlling the Uncontrollable in 1984
Controlling the Uncontrollable in 1984 Jim Rohn once said It is the set of the sails, not the direction of
the wind that determines which way we will go . He was implying that you can get through anything
that is in your way and achieve what you set out to achieve. But this quote can relate to the system of
control in 1984 if you read it in the exact opposite way. Take the wind to be natural human instincts,
and with the ease it takes to literally change the direction of a sail, the party redirects those instincts to
serve a purpose and help them achieve their goal. Moreover, the government is aiming for complete
control but they realize that humans have tendencies that can t be completely destroyed. In order to

This was majorly successful for the party as children were constantly turning in thought criminals. It
was almost normal for people over thirty to be frightened of their own children. And with good reason,
for hardly a week passed in which The Times did not carry a paragraph describing how some
eavesdropping little sneak child hero was the phrase generally used had overheard some
compromising remark and denounced its parents to the Thought Police. The party took the rebellious
ways of children, which is something that cannot be completely eradicated, and twisted it in there
favor to achieve their ultimate goal. Another thing the party needed to keep in check if they wished to
have full control was the way human interact and feel about each other. Specifically emotional
connections between people. More often then not, sex is an act of love and therefore it was something
that the party needed to control. They only wanted people to have sex if they were attempting to
procreate thus expanding the people loyal to big brother. They also wished to remove all pleasure from
the lives of the people. So they turned sex into a daily task with no pleasure in it. [Winston s wife

Wiccan Rede Research Paper
In Wiccan communities, when the term rede is used, it is automatically assumed that they are
referencing the Wiccan Rede. However, the term rede truly means counsel or advice. The term was
first used around the 11th century in middle English. It is also note able to state that the Wiccan Rede
is not one of a kind, but also shares some similarities with the Norse Rede of Honour. For example,
the most famous line of the Wiccan Rede is the concluding line: These Eight words the Rede fulfill:
An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will , yet in the opening line of the Norse Rede of Honour it states: In
all that you do, consider its benefit or harm upon yourself, your children and your people. In modern
practice, the use of the word rede is most often times interpreted as the Wiccan rede, with many seeing
it as a mission statement of the belief system. As stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally, the Rede has never been just simple advice, but moral boundaries that govern the type of
rituals and magick I practice. Like I stated above, I believe that the energy sent out into the world will
come back to me, which is why I can connect personally to the concluding line of the Rede. Although,
since I am not a true Wiccan I find myself able to agree with some parts of the Rede and disagree with
other parts of it, such as the reference to the God figure, because in my craft I have yet to find and
worship a male patron deity. Misconceptions I had when it came to this term was that it was an
automatic reference to the Wiccan Rede, and that there were other redes out there other than the
Wiccan Rede. Another misconception I had was that all the lines of the Wiccan Rede were rules of the
craft, and not advice or guidelines to follow. When viewing the full length of the Rede, I
misinterpreted each stanza with literal meaning, letting it overwhelm me into thinking that I had to
follow all the lines to a

The Pros of Animal Testing Essay
Albert Sabin, the developer of the polio vaccine once said, Without animal research, polio would still
be claiming thousands of lives each year. Polio is a deadly disease caused by a virus that spreads from
person to person. This infectious disease renders the brain and spinal cord helpless while also ensuring
a permanent case of paralysis to the victim. According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, ...13,000 to 20,000 para lytic cases were reported annually, before the 18th century. After
the introduction of the polio vaccine, ...a total of 2,525 paralytic cases were reported, compared with

success of animal testing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Animal Welfare Act (AWA) requires research facilities to have a certified veterinarian, ...who
shall provide adequate veterinary care. The AWA also requires animals used in research to be
presented with appropriate housing, feeding, handling, sanitation, ventilation, and sheltering. The
regulations are promptly guarded by The Institutional Care and Use Committee. The Institutional Care
and Use Committee must ensure the appropriate handling and treatment of laboratory animals by
reviewing and inspecting every research study. If a research study is viewed as potentially harmful to
animals without reason then the Committee will close the study. The safety of test animals are
protected and monitored by federal agencies. The notion of animals being brutally kept in hostile
conditions can easily be swept away by the actions and protocols enacted by the U.S. government.
These actions and protocols are meant to ensure the humane treatment of test animals. Another point
of opposition directed towards animal testing is the belief that research on animals is irrelevant to the
beneficiary of people because animals are different from people, rendering experiments inaccurate and
useless. PETA has noted that the Food and Drug Association has accounted, ...92 percent of all drugs
that are shown to be safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trials, due to the inability of
working or its potential danger.

Aint No Mountain High Enough And Grenade Comparison
I will jump in front of a train for you! Phrases like this will melt a woman s heart. Musicians normally
express their feelings through lyrics, in various genres of music. One usually turns to another person
for emotional support, but others will direct themselves towards music. In the same way that music
can heal a soul, it is also capable of demonstrating others to show affection for whom they love. One
lesson taught throughout love songs is, love is unconditional affection with no limits or conditions.
Two songs that come to mind are Ain t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye, and Grenade by
Bruno Mars. Both of these songs talk about love, and passion, however one talks about a desire for
somebody, while the other expresses heartbreak.
Bruno Mars and Marvin Gaye express their love in grand ways. In similarity, they both have a
compassionate and sentimental vibe that speaks to a person emotionally. They both use big gestures to
show the one they love how they feel. Bruno Mars sings I would jump in front of a train for ya, you

The Badger
The American badger is found in regions of North America from southern Canada and down through
Mexico. They usually stick to open grassland ranges.
Badgers Diet Badgers are carnivorous animals eating mostly pocket gophers, prairie dogs, ground
squirrels, pika, woodrats and kangaroo rats. They usually do this by digging the prey out of the ground
in their dens or chasing them down.
Abiotic Effect
American badgers have an effect on the abiotic environment with their digging. They dig to build
dens, and catch prey. Any badger you see has more than likely dug a hole. Badger holes are pretty

Some of the animals in the badger s diet include woodrats, prairie dogs, kangaroo rats, pika, pocket
gophers, marmots, moles, ground squirrels, deer mice, and voles. The badger is also a huge consumer
of snakes. In South Dakota the badger is the most dominant predator of rattlesnakes, making the
badger very important to the ecosystem. They also prey on ground nesting birds like burrowing owls,
and bank swallow. Some of the smaller things the badger preys on would be insects such as bees, and
reptiles like lizards, and fish and skunks.
Mutualism:
The coyote and badger is a great example of mutualism. Coyotes normally don t hunt in packs or in
tight knit groups but is often found hunting with the badger. The best example would be hunting in
prairie dog fields. The coyote takes the prairie dogs on the ground while scaring other dogs into their
holes where the badger is. When the badger hunts underground catching it s prey it also scares dogs up
to the ground where the coyote is. So basically the badger and coyote work together to corner up the
prairie dogs and eat until they get their fill.

High School Dropout Crisis
There needs to be a more targeted approach to deal with the high school dropout crisis. Public health
professionals must get involved in making sure that all high school students graduate including
students at highest risk (National Association for Chronic Disease Directors [NACDD], 2011). This
speech will view some of the risk factors of high school dropouts for vulnerable populations and
discuss promising approaches for reducing high school dropout rates by targeting students health. My
thesis statement is dropping out of high school is a major economic and social problem. Public health
professionals should make improving high school completion rates a public health priority. I hope that
my audience will be convinced of the influence education has for health status, the importance of the
public health community in reducing the dropout rate, and bring attention to the role that the health
sector, specifically school based interventions can play in reducing the high school dropout rate. ...

Pros And Cons Of Stricter Gun Control
Guns are designed to kill. They have no other function (Bowman and Newton). Today, there is a major
debate whether or not guns should be legalized. Gun control is a firearm regulation which sets laws or
policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, or possession of firearms. The Second Amendment was
ratified in on December 15, 1791 that allowed people the right to bear arms, but many people disagree
with that and to express their opinions, both sides protest. Guns have a long history in the United
States. They were intentionally made for the advancement of military purposes. An example of what
guns are used for currently would be for hunting or self defense ( Gun Control ). Stricter gun control
laws should be enacted like because they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stricter gun control laws won t prevent those determined to die, but it will delay their situation to give
them more time to get help. If there were more gun control laws enacted, there would be lower gun
related death rates. The enactment of stricter gun control laws will not only cause fewer gun deaths but
also save money.
Pursuing this further, the enactment of stricter gun control laws saves money. Ann Parrish also
concludes how much money is spent on the consequence of guns;
It has been calculated that the United States spends one hundred billion dollars each year to prevent or
investigate gun violence or to treat its results. These costs include the expensive trauma centers in
hospital emergency rooms; bullet proof clothing for police, public officials, and others at risk;
elaborate security systems at airports, public buildings, schools and private homes; and increased taxes
and insurance costs for everyone. (Parrish).
The mass amount of money the U.S. wastes on the consequences of guns could instead be used for
greater purposes like research for Cancer. The outcome of guns is shown by Andrew Lisa in the
article, Here s How Much Gun Violence is Costing You a Year , Miller s research concludes gun
violence costs about $8.6 billion in direct, or out of pocket, expenses. This is more than just the costs
associated with transporting gunshot victims to hospitals and treating them; it also includes long term

Similarities Between Equations And Inequalities
In Algebra, we have been learning about Equations and Inequalities, and how you can solve them in
the same ways. Though, They re both very similar and both very different in their own ways, which
makes it difficult to find the differences.
But, There are also many similarities between them. The way that the two are similar is that you can
solve both problems the same way, for example:
If you had 2x + 2 = 10
You d solve it by subtracting 2 with 10, which would result in an 8.
2x + 2 = 10
2x = 8
After this, you d divide 2 with 2, and 2 with 8, which would give you a 4.
So the answer would be X = 4. So 4 would be the only answer.
2x + 2 = 10
2x = 8
X = 4
If you did this with an IneQuality, it would turn out the same, except if you divide ... Show more

Since its all numbers less than 4, we d have an open circle since it isn t equal to 4. And there s an
arrow pointing towards the left since its all numbers less than 4.
But, if it was all numbers greater than 4, it would be like this:
3 4 5
Despite the two having a couple differences and a couple similarities, both can be used in the world
around us, since, depending on the symbol you use, you d still get the same answer nonetheless.
However, there still are more differences between the two.
Even if you do the Math equation the same, the symbols can cause the answer to shift, and make it so
the two aren t the same.
For example:
If you used 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1 )
You d start by multiplying the 6 by 2, since the 6 is next to a parenthesis symbol, which would give
you 12, and you d multiply the 6 with 1, which would give you 6 in return.
12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1)
12x + 6 = 12x+6
tHEN, YOU D SUBTRACT 12 BY ITSELF, AND WITH THE OTHER 12, WHICH WOULD
MAKE THE ANSWER 6 = 6, MAKING IT AN INFINITE SOLUTION.
12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1)
12x + 6 = 12x+6
6 = 6

Analysis Of Merchant Of Venice And Frankenstein
Preconceptions
In both Merchant of Venice, by Shakespeare, and Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, identities, prejudices,
and judgements are constantly put to the test. Shylock and Portia, who originally identify strongly
with their Jewish ancestry are subject to prejudice and judgement, ultimately causing them to change
their concepts of identity to conform to society. Similarly, the Creature is judged for his physical
appearance, causing him to grow angry when he is exiled by society. Both novels seem to suggest that
bias plays a role in determining the relationship between people, even when they have never met
before. These characters are judged, eventually shaping the way they will identify by the end of the
novel, and largely forcing them to change the very way they act and appear. For this reason, in both
Merchant of Venice and Frankenstein, prejudice is used as a tool to stereotype and label people,
eventually causing them to conform and mold themselves to the norms set out for them by society.
Many people are often judged because they are different from the norms society has set for them,
causing them to often be stereotyped into categories. This is especially true in the context of both
novels. Shylock experiences prejudice because he identifies as Jewish, and is often discriminated
against, explaining how someone spat on him, saying, You call me misbeliever, cutthroat dog, And
spat upon my Jewish gabardine, And all for use of that which is mine own (1.3). He

Pericles Lion And The Sea-Onion Analysis
he Lion and the Sea Onion. Most self respecting artists would pick the former as the subject for a
monument and dismiss the latter. Yet, the man behind the moniker of Sea Onion cannot be so easily
dismissed. Pericles, the great Athenian statesman, was nicknamed
Schinocephalos
, or Sea Onion, by contemporary poets because of the large size of his head ( Pericles , History.com).
The Lion of Justice, in this case, refers to King Henry II of England ( King Henry II Biography ). On
the surface, both Henry II and Pericles appear to be equally great leaders who made lasting impact on
Western civilizations. Henry II established the English Common Law, which ensured the same laws
applied everywhere in the country (Hinds 60). He also laid the foundation for a unified Britain by
claiming Scotland and Ireland as parts of his realm (Morgan 143). Pericles united the Greek city states
into an empire known as the Delian League with Athens at its center ( Pericles , University Press Inc).
Under his leadership and patronage, arts, literature, and philosophy flourished, creating a cultural
legacy that shaped all areas of Western thinking. Pericles also led the restoration of the Acropolis and
the ambitious construction of the Parthenon (Nardo 10). But looking beyond their accomplishments,
these two historical figures differ greatly in their motivations and personal conducts. Arguably, two of
the most essential traits of a good leader are integrity and dedication to the common good. Using these
qualities as a metric for comparison, we will see that Henry II falls short while Pericles is clearly
deserving of a monument in his honor
.
Both Henry II and Pericles were highly driven and ambitious. But while Henry was fueled by the
desire to glorify himself and his reign, Pericles wished to glorify Athens and its people. Henry II
wanted to reclaim lands that were previously under his grandfather s rule. He used force and threats to
claim lordship over Wales, Scotland, and Ireland (Hinds 12). In his mind, it was his birthright. As a
general and statesman, Pericles also helped reclaim land (noticeably Delphi) for Athens ( Pericles ,
Bio). But rather than conquering neighboring poleis
, Pericles chose to focus on making Athens a city

This analysis will be limited to some certain main aspects because of the company s high complexity.
The outcomes will help to understand the strategic position of the organisation.
Inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing sales and services are primary activities
of the value chain and will therefore be discussed first. Supporting activities such as procurement,
technology development, human resource management and firm infrastructure refer to all of the
primary activities and will be discussed independently.
1.1 Primary Activities
Inbound logistics
A specific German characteristic of its supplier system is the so called Automotive Cluster. A cluster is
a concentration of institutions and companies in a particular branch of industry within a particular
area. Companies can highly benefit from this factor through sharing competences, short delivery times
and close co operations. These are major influences on BMW s inbound logistics, meaning that most
of its aspects, like storing and distributing, are outsourced to their suppliers.
Two major clusters of BMW are Leipzig and the so called Automobildreieck (automotive triangular)
which includes the cities Dingolfing/Landshut Regensburg Ingolstadt. According to a research of the
IWD (Cologne) about 20.7% of all social insurance registered employees work for the automotive

Population Control In Vonnegut
In 2BR02B, Vonnegut provides a fruitful, dark, and mind bending story. Vonnegut s story represents
the values of death and life when he says, [d]eath, barring accidents, was an adventure for volunteers
(Vonnegut). This reveals that there are those who consider death an adventure and not an end. His
story illustrates the toll of human nature on humanity, no matter the situation. In particular, Vonnegut
utilizes a story of population control to propel his ideas further. Furthermore, Vonnegut employs the
short story to describe the inconsistencies of population control. Ultimately Vonnegut s illustration
paints population control as a heartless act against humanity. However, Vonnegut s overexerts the idea
of population control being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symbolism between the Painter and the Mural is a salient contrast within Vonnegut s story. This
contrast is an intentional comparison used to highlight the ultimate behavior of humanity amongst a
form of population control as inhumane as gas chambers. The painter acts as symbolism of humanity s
rejection. The mural acts as the glorification of the control. The Painter gives off a careless attitude
and a slight rejection towards the population control in the story. In response to the orderly s
comments the painter scorns, You think I m proud of this daub? You think this is my idea of what life
really looks like (Vonnegut). This reveals the painter s attitude towards population control.
Furthermore, it solidifies the fact that the painter represents humanity s rejection. In direct relation, of
course, is the mural. The mural itself, is a representation of all the important people of the hospital
staff. Moreover, the mural acts as a glorification and acceptance of the population control. Together,
the painter is seen filling the faces of these people, simultaneously rejecting that the mural, [l]ooks just
like heaven or something (Vonnegut). What the contrast reveals in a deeper sense is humanity (the
painter) continuing to accept the inhumane population control (painting the mural) regardless of their
rejection. It worthy to note that the acceptance of population control varies from each human being.

The Effects Of Texting On Children s Children
In the era of technology, a large number of people text by mobile phone every day. Gradually, the
telephone has been adapted to the needs of society and people also are more dependent on the
telephone. In fact, the standing of telephone was already changed from a technological tool to a social

The Heros Journey In Shrek And The Hero s Journey
A movie is more than just a story. A movie sparks imagination. A movie displays the hero s journey.
Shrek, a movie known to most children as well as adults, is about an ogre who goes on an adventure.
The adventure is very remarkable in the world of fantasy and unquestionably demonstrates the
baseline of all stories, the hero s journey. Shrek undoubtedly shows the stages of a hero s journey
throughout the entire movie series as well as vital information needed for the person watching the film
to feel the passions that the main character feels during the duration of the movie. In the hero s
journey, the hero or main character goes through a series of events. The first stage of the hero s
journey is the ordinary world. In the movie Shrek, Shrek lives in a vacant swamp, living without a
relationship with the outside world. He enjoys the peacefulness of living by himself, until he is no
longer by himself. Lord Farquaad sends fairy tale creatures to exile on Shrek s swamp, ruining the
way Shrek lives his life at home. Shrek leaves to go to the Lord s castle. He is then told that to get his
precious swamp back, he needs to rescue Princess Fiona. This is Shrek s call to adventure. Shrek is a
willing hero. This is shown when Shrek states he would do anything to get his swamp back. He
willingly left as fast as he could, so he could return back to his old way of life. Shrek leaves his
ordinary world when he leaves his house, then goes to the Lord s castle. Shrek leaves the Lord s castle
sets his way out to the castle which encases Princess Fiona. Donkey, Shrek s mentor, helps Shrek
throughout his tests. Shrek s enemy is prevailed as soon as the movie starts. Shrek s rival would be
Lord Farquaad because he wishes to only marry the princess, so he can be a monarch. The earliest test
would be where Shrek goes against the Lord s men in a fight. This is where the Lord decided Shrek s
expedition. Without Donkey, Shrek would have never found the Lord s castle. Shrek proceeds to go
through another test. He must rescue Princess Fiona from the highest room in the tallest tower, without
dying from the dragon or the lava that encircles the fortress where Fiona is held hostage until someone
liberates her from her bedroom in the

Lion King Failure
The failure of being a King How should a King behave? There are some elements that will definitely
cause the failure of a King. Both the novel, Macbeth, and the film, Lion King, show the rise and fall of
the kings. Fall into the road of no return, fail to maintain power and not legitimate are the major
factors that caused their fall in reign.
The first similarity is the crowns of both Macbeth and Scar are not legitimate. Before they betray the
King, they are acquaintances to the King. One is a highly trusted, valuable general and another is a
relative of the King. Coincidentally, they are close to and trusted by the King. However, the
relationships between Macbeth and Duncan, Scar and Mufasa do not allow them to succeed to the
crown because the King s son should be the next in line for the throne. The chance to be a King is
almost within reach, but neither Macbeth nor Scar could be a King legally. Lured by the lust of power,
Macbeth and Scar murdered their King and expel the prince like broken line kites without any
restrictions. Although they get the power, their crown is illegal and unconvincing. The sons of ... Show

Hope In Elie Wiesel s Night
This section of the book proved to be one of the most suspenseful and thrilling parts of Nyiszli s

worried for the doctor because I knew the outlook of his future would be bleak. He would come home

With his home probably destroyed from the war, he would not have anything to come back to.
Survival was meaningless to him, but he still continued to push through the adversity. All in all, I
enjoyed the ending. I was not expecting him to be so happy at the end. In fact, I thought he would

I am actually quite shocked the Dr. Nyiszli survived after the fall of Auschwitz. despite the cold

Unfortunately, his friends would all perish after the madness of the crematoriums and the forced

The Problem Of Teen Violence
Teen violence has become a longstanding agent in the culture of the nation s youth. Every year,
approximately one million twelve to nineteen year olds are murdered or assaulted, many by their
peers, and teenagers are more than twice as likely as adults to become the victims of violence. From
schools (grammar and high school) being subdued by a fellow student on an angry rampage to figures
of the law flipping and dragging students in class. Something has to be done. Although the issue is far
too difficult for any one solution, teaching young people conflict resolution skills, nonviolent
techniques for resolving disputes seems to help. To reduce youth violence, conflict resolution skills
should be taught to all children before they reach junior high school. First and probably most
important, young people need to learn nonviolent way of dealing with conflict. In a dangerous society
where guns are readily available, many young teens feel they have no choice but to respond to an
insult or an argument with violence. If they have grown up seeing family members and neighbors
react to stress with verbal or physical violence, they may not know that other choices exist.
Behaviors like carrying a weapon or refusing to be the bigger person , gives young people the illusion
of control of a violent situation. What they urgently need is to learn real control. Many youth violence
prevention programs target teens themselves, giving them coping tactics to cope with their anger
issues or

One mans theory: A solution?
In 1990 John Martin an Oceanographer presented the idea that phytoplankton are responsible for
almost half of the photosynthesis that occurs on the earth.(Dopyra, 1996) Photosynthesis is an
important part of the carbon cycle, fixating carbon from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen as a
byproduct of this process. According to Martin s theory, growth is limited by the availability of iron
and if the oceans could be made more iron rich, the massive blooms of phytoplankton could fixate
massive amounts of carbon dioxide without harm to the environment.
Expectations ran high, and for over 10 years scientists raced to plan and execute experiments to see if
his theory would provide a solution for the damage that has been done to our planet through mankind
s industrialization efforts. Thousands of papers were submitted and published and experiments were
carried out to determine if seeding the ocean with iron was a simple solution to a complex problem.

The first large scale iron fertilization project was carried out in October 1993 and named Ironex I. The

Odysseus was able to save the lives of him and his crew by thinking of a way shut down one of
Polyphemus defenses. The way he does this is not obvious, and requires cleverness to think it up. This
plays into his image as a hero. Odysseus cleverness helps him get out of many situations, which but
only leads into more of his favorable qualities. One of those qualities being his great leadership and
his ability to guide his crew out of difficult situations. An example of Odysseus leadership in The Iliad
is when Odysseus comes up with the idea to attack troy with the trojan horse. The city of troy was
enclosed in walls, making it very difficult for Odysseus to attack them. They would need a great plan
in order for them to be able to attack. This is where Odysseus steps in. He comes up with the idea to
create the trojan horse, and put his men inside. The trojans then take this horse inside their city, and
believe that it is a gift from the spartans. The men inside the horse then come out during the night time
and kill everybody in the city, and return victorious. This example shows exemplary leadership by
Odysseus, because he comes up a brilliant plan to get inside the city, and then takes his army to
victory. If nobody had

Health, benefit, well being, progress, care, profit, thriving, all words that are synonyms to welfare.
Animal welfare has been an agricultural issue for several decades. Animal welfare refers to the
physical, emotional, and mental state an animal is in. There are several organization in the United
States along with other corporations around the world that have the same mission; to promote animal
welfare. This issue has a deep rooted history, various legislative acts being voted on and passed, as
well as many effects from these organizations, and legislative bills. Animal farms find their first start
in 7500 BC where goats and sheep were farmed for their resources such as wool, milk, and meat
(Early Farming). Even 7,000 years before Jesus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When these laws are passed, producers are burdened with rules and regulations that they must follow.
For example, it could be involving the slaughter, transportation, or shelter the livestock is housed in.
The law could require a certain amount of square footage or acreage per a selected number of
livestock. Next the middleman is affected. The middleman could be anyone from a grocery store
owner to an owner of a store that sells things that use animal products. Usually the laws require
farmers to use a more expensive route to caring for an animal thus the farmer has to raise his or her
prices when selling the animal or product. The grocery store owner then would have to pay more for
the animal products he is purchasing, but he would also be able to advertise depending on the product
that his products were organic, antibiotic free, or free of animal testing. This could both benefit or
drawback his business depending on the consumers in the area. The consumer is the final group to be
affected by animal welfare acts. There are both positive and negatives to the consumer side. The
positives to the consumer side is that they can take advantage of antibiotic free, organic, animal testing
free and other specialized products. If consumers are conscious of what they are putting in and on
their bodies they would appreciate the choices these laws allow them. The

Angela Carter
How does Carter present the experience of the girl in The Bloody Chamber? Carter has directed the
narrative mostly, although not completely, from the older woman in the text, speaking back on the past
(therefore past tense) as a first person narrative. There is interjections of dialogue throughout the text,
although it is mostly constructed as a written text, as if the older women is writing in a diary, but has
interjections of dialogue, possibly showing her memory traveling back and replaying moments. This is
shown via the narrator speaking as if she remembers them, and then refers to them, such as: And, ah!
His castle , And surrounded by so many mirrors! These interjections break up the text, and give it

The reference to Red Riding Hood with the line, All the better to see you implies the beastial ferosiaty
that the Marquis grows in the latter stages of the story. Biblical allusions are also present in the story,
with the unfading mark the Marquis creates upon the protagonist s head being described as the mark
of Cain (an evil mark) Other hints towards the climax of the bloody chamber appear in the mention of
Saint Cecilia ( an early Flemish primitive of Saint Cecilia at her celestial organ , although I looked at
the picture of Saint Cecilia with a faint dread; what had been the nature of her martyrdom? ), who is a
saint of the catholic church who was beheaded, with the red choker necklace implementing this: like
an extraordinary precious slit throat . There is use of a list of three that is heavily alluding to the
protagonists experiences throughout the story told, starting with her loss of virginity, then the incident
regards the keys the Marquis trusted her with, following by her betrayal of her husband: The
Initiation, The Key of Mysteries, The Secret of Pandora s Box . A recurring theme in all the tales of
the Carter anthology is transformation, and this topic is central to The Bloody Chamber. In the second
paragraph of the story, the first transformation of the girl ceasing to be her [mother s] child in

Griot Gender
In this paper I want to go in depth to share my understanding and perception of what I believe a griot
is, i am choosing to write about this because 1, I was captivated by the word, its meaning, its influence
in the story and 2 because I believe even till this day we still have areas where people still carry out
these functions and also because I was not satisfied with my digestion of this word when we talked
about it in our section groups due to limited time. Who is a griot? According to the book, Sundiata
griots were the counselors of kings, they conserved the institution of the kingdoms by memory work
alone and they also appear as one of the most important people of the society two things I want to talk
about 1. Gender 2. Position/power. As I read through the pages of Sundiata the information presented
to me were in a description of what the gender of a griot was and it turned out to my knowledge it was
a male. This drew me back to realizing how gender had played a huge role in our society up until
today because we still see some gender based jobs like the griot and there have been exponential pay
gaps in those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, although griots were used in the Mali Empire they are also people like the griots who are
used in other empires and kingdoms but with a different name. An example would be the dynasties
that we have touched on while we talked about the Nile Valley Civilization. I believe this is a time
when the job of a griot is probably more important than ever because according to class readings and
lectures they were different kings and rulers of dynasties at different times and eras and I believe that
is when the job of a griot comes into play because that is when they need to narrate the past to these
Rulers to better their experience and the future of the

Chimpanzees
Chimpanzees communicate through sounds, and gestures. These chimpanzees in the wild have
systems that variates and create local dialects. Chimpanzees are our closest ancestors since we share
about 99 percent of our genetic material with them. Chimpanzees have been trialed and it looks like
they are capable to have language similar to human beings. Moreover, research suggest that
chimpanzees in fact do communicate using human language such as American Sign Language (ASL).
ASL is a phonological system in which it organize the physical realization of speech (7). This great
discovery was noted by Allen and Beatrix when they explored Washoe, an infant common chimpanzee
(8). that was trained using gestural signs from ASL. Another way chimpanzees ... Show more content

White Privilege And Black Privilege
The term privilege is when a person has the right or confused with having the right to do something.
For example, for someone to advance their education is not a privilege perhaps it is a right. In some
cases during certain situation person can be granted the privilege. White privilege is a word greatly
used in social rights that advantage individuals to be acknowledged as white in Western countries, afar
what is frequently proficient by non white individuals in the same social, political, or economic
conditions (Rothenberg, 2016). However, when a certain race color is treated more superior than
another race is giving the advantage or benefit to have the opportunity to do anything they want
without anyone trying to stop them.
According to the authors, what practice(s) create white privilege is viewed in their own unique
perspective but, it all fits up under one category of a specific race having the advantage to have their
freedom to do what they like. Based on McIntosh view that whites in Western societies adore
recompenses that non whites do not practice, as an undistinguishable package of unjustified assets
(Rothenberg, 2016). White freedom represents together evident and not as much of evident submissive
rewards that white people may possibly not identify they require, which differentiates it from explicit
favoritism or preconception. In fact, they have been accepted as the better social status in addition to
freedom to move, buy, work, play, and speak freely. It

California s St. Francis Dam Collapse
Mr. Mulholland is an intelligent, sharp, and observant builder. he didn t seem to study much about
dams because the dam that he built was built on schist which water slides under. This man was known
throughout History for his confidence of how to build the dam. He seemed pretty gruff and impatient,
He seemed like he wanted to just get done with his work. Mulholland wanted to get it done because it
was a very long task, There are some answers to why Mulholland built the dam badly. One reason is
that it was probably too much on the dam. As the head of the department of power, Mr. Mulholland
faced a huge challenge which was to provide water for a rapidly grwoing city. People really need
water for getting clean. Mullholland thought he could help the people to get get water by building a
dam. He was mostly doing it for money. More water is always best for LA County because all
California has is sum most of the time, especially Southern California. Mr. Mulholland conceived a
daring plan to build the largest Dam in the world located in San Francisquito Canyon. As the designer
of the St. Francis Dam, Mr. Mulholland had to find a well structured place to build the Dam. He
needed to be very wise on where he built the dam. Mr. Mulholland also needed to be intelligent to
build the Dam. The Dam needed to be secure to prevent the heavy water to spill out. According to Mr.
Mulholland, the dam was built in San Francisquito Canyon off of San Francisquito Rd. The Dam

Society In Brave New World
Brave New World s fictional society [World State] is practically an extreme, yet logically developed
version of our world s economic values, where economic growth and prosperity is equated with the
success of a society. It has several comparisons to the realistic one we live in everyday. Huxley
describes this part of his vision as being a consumer society, which evidently was satire of the society
he was living in and the one that still exists today. In which people buy all they can and keep buying
useless consumer items: nice clothes, food, and drugs. People indulge in these items and become so
happy that they lose and choose not to care about their personal freedoms, which is why it is so easy
for the World State s citizens to be controlled. Religion is replaced by the reverence for technology.
This can be seen throughout the entirety of the book, since the World State s citizens substitute the
name Ford, or Henry Ford, one of the most greatest industrialists of the 20th century, where people in
our world would normally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

similar stage called withdrawal. Living would be frightening and unimaginable without drugs which is

  • 3. The Growth of Japenese Anime Anime was created by Japan, in the year 1917, which introduced a new, entertaining and exciting commodity for the Japanese community to experience and witness. Japan had finally experienced its very own cartoons, which would indulge the Japanese culture that every Japanese citizen is proud of and admires. However, the early years of Anime wasn t its most successful, in fact it was by far its worst. Anime could not keep up with the Western cartoons, to the extent that even the Japanese would prefer Western cartoons over Anime. This proposed a tremendous problem for Anime industries, and action needed to be taken for Anime to be on the map. The industry was facing competition from legendary shows such as Batman, Superman, and Disney s very own Mickey Mouse. The hype and passion around those Western shows was so extreme to the extent that no one can compete. But, if you can t beat them, join them. Anime started incorporating those Western features into their very own animations, the characteristics, the plot, the landscape, and the animation, basically everything that helped, was taken and mixed within the old and unwanted Japanese Animations. This caused the massive explosion of Anime popularity in the late 1960 s, as Anime no longer only represented a culture that the Japanese already know, and the West aren t interested in, but has now introduced a new era of ingenuity and brilliance. So what caused Anime to change over the years, and suddenly blossom in the 1960 s? How ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impact Of The Dodge Plan POST WAR JAPAN S ECONOMIC MIRACLE The Dodge Plan of 1948 In the year 1947, Cold War unrest had started building up in Eastern Asia that prompted the United States of America to revise its policies towards Japan in order to accelerate its economic recovery. The Dodge Plan conceived by Joseph Dodge in 1948 was implemented as a solution to bring Japan back to its complete strength and economic recovery. The Dodge Plan focused on resolving the serious problem of inflation and establishing a more stable Japan through three policies. First being a balanced budget, followed by suspension of new loans from the Reconstruction Finance Bank (this source of supply of money was identified as the root cause of inflation), and lastly, reducing as well as completely eliminating subsidies. The above mentioned policies were identified to aid in accelerating the Japanese economy. Dodge s policies caused problems along the way in its implementation but it created a path for recovery without the help of America. However, the term rede truly means counsel or advice. The term was first used around the 11th century in middle English. • 19. Analysis Of Merchant Of Venice And Frankenstein Preconceptions In both Merchant of Venice, by Shakespeare, and Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, identities, prejudices, and judgements are constantly put to the test. Shylock and Portia, who originally identify strongly with their Jewish ancestry are subject to prejudice and judgement, ultimately causing them to change their concepts of identity to conform to society. Similarly, the Creature is judged for his physical appearance, causing him to grow angry when he is exiled by society. Both novels seem to suggest that bias plays a role in determining the relationship between people, even when they have never met before. These characters are judged, eventually shaping the way they will identify by the end of the novel, and largely forcing them to change the very way they act and appear. For this reason, in both Merchant of Venice and Frankenstein, prejudice is used as a tool to stereotype and label people, eventually causing them to conform and mold themselves to the norms set out for them by society. Many people are often judged because they are different from the norms society has set for them, causing them to often be stereotyped into categories. This is especially true in the context of both novels. Yet, the man behind the moniker of Sea Onion cannot be so easily dismissed. Pericles, the great Athenian statesman, was nicknamed Schinocephalos , or Sea Onion, by contemporary poets because of the large size of his head ( Pericles , History.com). The Lion of Justice, in this case, refers to King Henry II of England ( King Henry II Biography ). On the surface, both Henry II and Pericles appear to be equally great leaders who made lasting impact on Western civilizations. Henry II established the English Common Law, which ensured the same laws applied everywhere in the country (Hinds 60). He also laid the foundation for a unified Britain by claiming Scotland and Ireland as parts of his realm (Morgan 143). Pericles united the Greek city states into an empire known as the Delian League with Athens at its center ( Pericles , University Press Inc). Under his leadership and patronage, arts, literature, and philosophy flourished, creating a cultural legacy that shaped all areas of Western thinking. Pericles also led the restoration of the Acropolis and the ambitious construction of the Parthenon (Nardo 10). But looking beyond their accomplishments, these two historical figures differ greatly in their motivations and personal conducts. Arguably, two of the most essential traits of a good leader are integrity and dedication to the common good. Using these qualities as a metric for comparison, we will see that Henry II falls short while Pericles is clearly deserving of a monument in his honor . Both Henry II and Pericles were highly driven and ambitious. But while Henry was fueled by the desire to glorify himself and his reign, Pericles wished to glorify Athens and its people. Henry II wanted to reclaim lands that were previously under his grandfather s rule. He used force and threats to claim lordship over Wales, Scotland, and Ireland (Hinds 12). This contrast is an intentional comparison used to highlight the ultimate behavior of humanity amongst a form of population control as inhumane as gas chambers. The painter acts as symbolism of humanity s rejection. The mural acts as the glorification of the control. The Painter gives off a careless attitude and a slight rejection towards the population control in the story. In response to the orderly s comments the painter scorns, You think I m proud of this daub? You think this is my idea of what life really looks like (Vonnegut). This reveals the painter s attitude towards population control. Furthermore, it solidifies the fact that the painter represents humanity s rejection. In direct relation, of course, is the mural. The mural itself, is a representation of all the important people of the hospital staff. Moreover, the mural acts as a glorification and acceptance of the population control. Together, the painter is seen filling the faces of these people, simultaneously rejecting that the mural, [l]ooks just like heaven or something (Vonnegut). Every year, approximately one million twelve to nineteen year olds are murdered or assaulted, many by their peers, and teenagers are more than twice as likely as adults to become the victims of violence. From schools (grammar and high school) being subdued by a fellow student on an angry rampage to figures of the law flipping and dragging students in class. Something has to be done. Although the issue is far too difficult for any one solution, teaching young people conflict resolution skills, nonviolent techniques for resolving disputes seems to help. To reduce youth violence, conflict resolution skills should be taught to all children before they reach junior high school. First and probably most important, young people need to learn nonviolent way of dealing with conflict. In a dangerous society where guns are readily available, many young teens feel they have no choice but to respond to an insult or an argument with violence. If they have grown up seeing family members and neighbors react to stress with verbal or physical violence, they may not know that other choices exist.
