Why I Want To Be A Nurse Essay
Practical Nurse s Program Application Student s Name Institution Practical Nurse s Program
Application Why I chose Nursing as My Career In fact, there are several reasons why I chose nursing
as my profession. First and foremost is that I want to focus on changing people s lives (Nurse Journal,
2016). As a nurse, I would study the life s value when I would be seeing individuals struggling to
remain alive. Since I am fully aware that each life s breadth is a gift, I would, therefore, understand
this lesson further as I would be nursing various patients daily. I greatly respect human life, I possess
strong values and I am compassionate for empathy and suffering, factors that have further attracted me
to the nursing profession. Second, nursing profession allows continuous learning. As I like learning, I
would possess unlimited opportunities for advancing my medical knowledge. As such, I would
capable of choosing to work in various departments, train to become a medical assistant and as well
enter the nursing management where I would grow and mentor new nurses through sharing my
knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First and foremost, the nursing profession offers an opportunity to see the life s beginning. For
example, as a delivery and labour nurse, I would possess the pleasure of experiencing that as a daily
routine. The other motivating factor is abundant choices that suit my lifestyle. As such, nursing would
enable me to work at different times of the day, for example, during the nights, evenings, weekends,
and during the day. Moreover, nursing career allows traveling to and working in various places as the
nursing expertise is transferable. The other motivating factor is appreciation and remembrance of the
services offered. In this regard, patients normally remember certain quality services they were offered
by a nurse at one time in their history while the nurse does not even remember offering such a

Elton Mayo Human Relation Theory
When we think of manager everyone gets the same image in their head of such. Someone going
around giving orders and making sure employees do what they have been ordered to do. At one point
managers focused on the productivity and efficient division of labor and workers as an extension of
machinery also known as Scientific Management. But in the years after WW2, there was an almost
immediate change to this because of the introduction of The Human Relations Theory, also known as
the behavioral theory of management. This theory saw workers in a different light; they were now
seen as thinking beings with needs who liked to receive attention. Companies eventually saw that
attention motivated employees and even allowed them to get more out of themselves for the benefit of
the organization. The man known to have discovered the behavioral theory of management was Elton
Mayo. Elton Mayo (12/26/1880 09/07/1949) was a psychologist, industrial researcher, and
organizational theorist. He was educated at medical schools in Edinburgh and London but lost interest
in medicine at the University of Adelaide. In 1922 Mayo left the United States of America. There he
acquired a Rockefeller grant there enabling him to investigate the high turnover at the textile mill.
This work got the attention of the Harvard school of administration where he became a professor of
industrial research in 1929 this led to him conducting research into personal and social factors
determining work output at the

Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd Analysis
Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd was born on the 24th of April 1920 and was a leading Australian artist
through the late 20th century. Boyd s work ranges from impressionist renderings of Australian scene
to starkly expressionist figuration, and numerous artworks highlight both genres. His work features
humanitarian issues and many themes such as love, loss and shame. Boyd comes from an artistic
family. This had an affect on his artwork as both of his parents, Merric and Doris Boyd, were potters
and painters while his brothers were both artists, one a sculptor and the other a painter. This artistic
influence helped lead him into becoming an artist as he was exposed to art from a young age. His
humanitarian influences and social conscience came from writers such as Dostoyevsky and Kafka.
Boyd was exposed to these writers by Jewish immigrant artist Yosl Bergner who was his teacher at
Melbourne night classes, which Boyd started attending at age 14 after leaving school. After this time
his talent was nurtured by his grandfather who was a landscape artist. ... Show more content on

His work then moved into a distinct period of depictions of fanciful characters in urban settings after
moving to the inner city where he was influenced by his contact with European refugees. After this he
was conscripted where he did not enter active duty but did create expressionistic wartime artworks.
these artworks were considered powerful and painful images of the outcast as they pictured those not
fit for service and the crippled. An example of this is Cripple in smoke from factory chimney. This
artwork pictures a crippled person created out of the smoke from a nearby chimney. After the war

forms of art including pottery, ceramic painting and

Plum Point Park Essay
Issue Proposition Plum Point Park was once a place for sprouted overgrown weeds and rotting piers.
Through initiative and optimism, West Ghent Civic League proposed to transition the bleak plot of
land into a permanent park in the early 1990 s. 10 years and $1.5 million later, the park is now
considered an open natural refuge for local residents and home for various wildlife living along the
Elizabeth River. Granted Plum Point Park is an artificial park, there is still a lot of potentials that the
park can amount to. Due to the lack of green spaces and aesthetically appealing areas throughout the
park, the scenery can become very monotonous. In August of 2016, Global Shapers Norfolk (GSN)

America s Accountability to its Constitution and the...
Our constitution is built upon the ideas of freedom and decency. After all, it was written after hundreds
of years worth of tyranny both at home in England (at the time), and abroad. People were standing
against oppression leveled against them from thousands of miles away (for example, the Boston Tea
Party), and they were called traitors to the Crown. Today, if someone speaks out against the US and its
oppression, or chooses to fight back, we call him an insurgent or a terrorist. It s quite a twist. Our
country was built upon the values laid out in the constitution, and any individual working in the name
of the US is absolutely bound by these truths. There is nothing which permits a violation of this; no
reason can be which excuses such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trying to argue against that point would be somewhere on the order of arguing against gravity. The
pictures speak for themselves (Unauthored). And also consider this: the woman who took the
infamous Abu Ghraib photographs was ...convicted by a court martial, in May of 2005, of conspiracy
to maltreat prisoners, dereliction of duty, and maltreatment, and sentenced to six months in prison, a
reduction in rank, and a bad conduct discharge (Gourevitch). So the debate of whether or not Abu
Ghraib was torture seems moot. From there, it would seem absurd to argue in support of it anywhere,
in any country, for any reason. It is undeniable that what went on at Abu Ghraib was never a series of
isolated incidents, which were unbeknownst to the military leadership. It is Taguba s opinion that this
would not be possible (Hersh). Any person in the military is taught from day one to follow orders. The
woman in charge of the prison at the time was Janis Karpinski, an Army reserve brigadier general,
although she was not stationed there very long. It was the report written by Taguba which exposed the
...sadistic, blatant, and wanton criminal abuses, which occurred there (Hersh). It would seem quite
unreasonable that one could think that an Army General would embark upon a random course of such
insane violence, on such a wide scale. And if you look at the fact that similar activities occurred in
Guantanamo Bay and Afghanistan, it would certainly paint a

Subsequent to this comment, the applicant did request HP Kumar (HP Geotech) conduct a rockfall

(A copy of the report was provided to the County previously and it is attached to this letter for

This is a consequence of developing computer which carry on logically, reason rationally and can

AI and its components is displayed inside the image (Tecuci). With the creation of robots with
artificial intelligence, we are able to create robots which can work on task with greater efficiency than
human beings. Hence, the basic fear of robots replacing humans in the workforce rises as a potential
threat for losing jobs. But individual of society forget that Artificial intelligence will also create lots of
jobs as they will require humans to help maintain the condition of the bots and also to upgrade and fix
issue in the bots. Also, the bots will mostly take the jobs which are mainly labor infused. Therefore, if
we have bots performing the simple task of society it will require society to grow and become smarter
hence benefiting the society as a whole (Atkinon). Second, frequently individual of society worry that

the articles of confederation had no precedent to follow, and no other government to imitate; the
articles were fairly good. However, the Articles of Confederation could have been more effective than
they were. Effective does not necessarily mean that the government was strong. It does mean that the
government was able to provide the people with the kind of government they wanted and needed.
Also, ineffective does not necessarily mean weak. The Articles were deliberately written for a weak

They were not immediately ratified because there were land disputes and there had to be a unanimous
decision. Everybody hat wanted and claimed more land than they had. New Jersey, Maryland and
Delaware all had no claims. These states were the ones who initially refused to ratify the Articles; they
were not prepared to ratify a constitution which gave them no say in any matters. The larger states on
the other hand felt that they were underrepresented. They were hoping for more equality in size
(document E). Eventually, Maryland changed their minds about ratifying the constitution because they
ceded the land. Since the government could not tax, they were in major financial trouble. They began
to print continentals which were not backed by any commodities so they were worthless. The rest of
the world meanwhile was waiting to see how Britain would react; so they were afraid to get too
friendly with the colonists. The colonists though, knew that it was time to build up trade and trust with
other countries. Eventually, their financial plans fell through, so France and the Netherlands made
loans and were able to help keep the United States afloat. The Articles of Confederation confirmed the
weak decentralized system which was already in operation. The Articles did not make it clear that the
Congress was to be a real government. It was therefore, an uncertain central government. Many
people felt that the colonists should just try to set up a new confederation

Examples Of Sacrifice In The Poisonwood Bible
Sacrifice is one of the roots in life. To have one thing, another has to be sacrificed. Just like with life,
in order for one to live, another has to have a consequence. In Barbara Kingsolver s novel, The
Poisonwood Bible, Ruth May is the sacrificed soul to save the Price family. Because of her death,
Orleanna was able to finally snap out of her Nathan ruled trance. Orleanna was finally able to grab
Nathan by the horns and push back. Because of Ruth May, Orleanna was able to finally break Nathan
s hold on her and escape the torment. Because of Ruth May, the sacrifice, Orleanna is able to break
her inner feelings out to be the strong, young woman that she is painted to be. In the beginning of the

that even God has to admit the worth of freedom.[...] By then, I was lodged in the heart of darkness, so

Here, Orleanna realizes what type of predicament she is in. She realizes that Nathan is essentially
making her his slave. She begins to fear Nathan even though that is not what the Bible says about
marriage. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not
insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with
the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (English
Standard Version, 1 Corinthians 13:4 7) Nathan instead does the opposite. He is arrogant, rude,
irritable, resentful of their marriage, points out all of Orleanna s wrongdoings, and it can be inferred
that Nathan might hit his wife if she does something that he is not appreciative of

Widening Income Inequality
Inequality has increased within the most advanced and emerging markets and developing countries
(EMDCs), a phenomenon that has garnered considerable attention with President Obama calling
widening income inequality the defining challenge of our time. Irrespective of culture, religion and
ideology, inequality concerns and affects everyone. Inequality can serve as an indication of the
shortage of income mobility and opportunity―a reflection of the perpetual disadvantage for certain
sectors of society. Increasing inequality also has serious implications for macroeconomic stability and
economic growth, it can concentrate political and decision making power in the hands of a few. This
in turn results in the inefficient allocation of human resources, ... Show more content on

Inequality affects long term growth and cuts short the benefits such growth can bring about through
the multiplier effect. So, the need to reduce inequality is apparent. The more progressive the tax is, the
more effective it can be to reduce inequality. Progressivity could be strengthened by cutting back on
tax expenditures that benefit mostly top income groups (e.g. tax relief on mortgage interest). In
addition, removing other tax reliefs would increase equity and allow a growth enhancing cut in
marginal labour income tax rates. It would also decrease tax avoidance instruments available for high
income earners. Moreover, we have concluded that inheritance tax is deduced to be much more useful
in reducing inequality. Therefore, rising inequality warrants the imposition of higher income and
inheritance taxes on the rich, with more of an emphasis on higher inheritance

Robin Hood Outlaw
In mid 14th century Nottingham, under the rule of King Edward II, an outlaw named Robin Hood
emerged from Sherwood Forest with his entourage of outlaws he claimed his Merry Men. Robin Hood
and his Merry Men have gone down in history as the band of outlaws whom were said to have stolen
from the rich and given to the poor, not to mention ridding Nottingham of the malicious Sheriff. Many
historians have been questioning the amount of truth behind the story of Robin Hood and his Merry
Men that has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries, but no one knows for sure
what really happened. There are many theories referring to Robin Hood s existence, but one in
particular seems more plausible than the rest that the story of Robin Hood is the story of not just one
man and his entourage, but a collection of admirable people who helped change society for the greater
good.
Robin Hood was believed to be a heroic outlaw in the mid 14th century, who stole from the rich and
gave to the poor. But who s to say that Robin Hood was the only one who did this? What if Robin
Hood s figure was a summary of what the majority of outlaws of this time used to do and what gave
them their outlaw title? Robin Hood may indeed have been an outlaw, and in the eyes of the poor
people of Nottingham, a hero, but people aren t always what they first appear. Robin Hood and his
Merry Men may have been some of the first people to using lending schemes for their own personal

A Walnut Sized Organ
The prostate is a walnut sized organ that is located between behind the pelvic bone. It is distal to the
bladder and rests on the rectum. It helps urine flow out of the body; because of where the prostate is
located it can impair the flow of urine if the organ enlarges. It also secretes fluid that nourishes and
protects the sperm (WebMD). The prostate is located posterior to the pubic symphysis, inferior to the
bladder, and anterior to the rectum. It is covered with three layers of fascia which are the anterior,
lateral, and posterior aspects (Muruve). A normal prostate gland is said to be approximately 20g in
volume, 3.5 cm in length and 4cm wide and 2cm in depth. The prostate gland is divided into two main
parts: the central zone and the thick outer zone which is called the peripheral zone. There is also a
small portion of the gland that is called the transitional zone. The central zone is the area that
surrounds the ejaculatory ducts. About 1 5% of adenocarcinomas can be found in the prostate gland.
The peripheral zone covers that lateral aspects of the prostate. It contains 70% of glandular tissue
(Muruve). The transitional zone consists from the bladder neck to the membranous urethra. In this
zone benign prostatic hyperplasia occurs which leads to an obstruction of the bladder outlet. Prostate
cancer usually shows up in the transitional zone. Prostate cancer is where the cells in the prostate
gland start to grow uncontrollably.

Exploring Inferential Statistics and Their Discontents
What are degrees of freedom? The degrees of freedom (df) of an estimate is the number or function of
sample size of information on which the estimate is based and are free to vary relating to the sample
size (Jackson, 2012; Trochim Donnelly, 2008).
How are the calculated? The degrees of freedom for an estimate equals the number of values minus
the number of factors expected en route to the approximation in question. Therefore, the degrees of
freedom of an estimate of variance is equal to N 1, where N is the number of observations (Jackson,
2012). Given a single set of six numbers (N) the df = 6 1 = 5.

What are your options if your dependent variable scores are not normally distributed? Transformation
of data using a logarithm, square root, reciprocal, or some other function assists in normalizing the
data and correcting for heteroscedasiticy, nonlinearity, and outliers when one or more variables are not
normally distributed (Abrams, 1999; Bland Altman, 1996). The extent of the deviations from
normality determines the specific transformation used. A moderate difference in normality uses a
square root transformation, more substantially non normal uses a log transformation, and severely non
normal would use an inverse transformation (Abrams, 1999). The aim of data transformation allows
for changing the non normal distributed population data into more useful variable and is not
uncommon as the basic statistical summaries such as the sample mean, variance, z scores, histograms,
etc., are all transformed data and require the data follow a particular distribution (Bland Altman, 1996;
Trochim Donnelly, 2008).
Part II
What does p = .05 mean?
P = .05, or p value, is a probability measurement that the confidence of the research questions or null
hypothesis is correct and has a less than 5 percent observed outcome on a normal distribution curve

Teenage Drinking Essay
Teenage Drinking
According to Lang nine out of ten high school seniors have used alcohol, one out of twenty use it
daily, and one out of three will get drunk during any given weekend (back cover). Teenage drinking is
a very serious problem that is growing by the day in our country. I want to know what kids who drink
are getting themselves in to when they decide to start in high school or junior high. What types of
health and psychological problems will they be facing? What are the chances that they will become
addicted to alcohol, or to some other drug, for life? My father is an alcoholic and has been so for most,
if not all, of his life. He began drinking at about the age of twelve, while an altar boy for his

Drugs centers on alcohol as a first step in the addiction process for most children who become
alcoholics (Dupont). They all helped me answer my important questions and agreed on the
information they gave. I started out my search at the local library, looked through some books about
alcohol, and found several ranging from its uses and abuses to teenage drinking. I did not bother
looking in the encyclopedia because I figured that the people who wrote these books had already done
it for me. The first book I looked through was by Alan R. Lang (February 29, 2000); I skimmed
through the table of contents of the book and saw that it had a section devoted to the short term as well
as the long term effects of alcohol. So, in order to get a better understanding of this issue I turned to
the specified page and found that the effect of alcohol is directly related to ones BAC, or blood
alcohol concentration (Lang 39). This is what makes different kinds of people engage in a wide array
of behaviors, such as when two people drink the same amount of alcohol but the person who has more
body mass does not feel the effects of the alcohol. The other person, who has less body mass will get
drunk faster and is said to have less of a tolerance for alcohol .
In Volger s Teenagers and Alcohol, I found an excellent table outlining the

The Grimm Brothers Essay
The Grimm Brothers
Any good fairy tale may captivate a child s (or adult s) mind, but few could argue that, to be truly
enchanting, a tale needs great illustrations. Two of the most influential fairy tale tellers in history were
the German Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. Both very intelligent scholars, they knew how to
spin a tale in the most effective way possible. However, they had plenty of work just dealing with the
tales text, so in the area of illustration, they let their younger brother Ludwig take over, beginning with
the second edition of their fairy tales.
The fifth child of six in the Grimm family, Ludwig, who was always called Louis, did not necessarily
follow in the scholarly footsteps of his two older brothers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His landscapes included tranquil pastoral views from his home principality of Hesse Kassel and busy
urban scenes from cities like Berlin. He also pictured the interiors of buildings and gardens, often with
grand parties and important meetings shown in their midst. Showing an interest in nature, Ludwig
even made drawings of some varieties of plants and insects. He worked in many styles and media, too,
ranging from rough sketches to detailed engravings, from blurred watercolors to meticulous drawings.
One of Ludwig s greatest artistic gifts was his ability to give very real personalities to the faces of his
subjects by using various facial expressions and a masterful command of the different positions and
characteristics of the eyes. This ability, along with his interest in nature and his use of a myriad of
subjects, including all types of people and landscapes, lent itself well to the illustration of fairy tales.
The second edition of the first volume of the Grimms Fairy Tales marked Ludwig s first involvement
with fairy tales. Achim von Arnim, who lent money, editing and publishing services, and advice to the
Grimms, had only one criticism of the enormously successful first edition of Fairy Tales: it needed
illustrations. The logical choice to fill this void in the second edition was Ludwig, who made a series
of engravings to accompany the text published in 1819. Since that book was published, nearly every

Defining A Good Person In Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austen
The definition of being a good person is different to everyone. You won t be able to find an exact
definition that everyone will agree upon. Most definitions fall along the same lines as some may say a
good person is good because of the meaningful gestures they contribute in life, such as having a kind
heart, caring for others who don t even care about you, cherishing the little things, gently to children
and who will help out an elder. Others often say that it s a bit more complicated than that. Regardless,
there isn t an accurate response to this vague concept. With this said, how do we determine who is

the madrills survival, the pointed canines are used to pierce and tear at fruits or nuts meanwhile the

The Importance Of Trojans In The Trojan War
Virgil first depicts humans as unthoughtful through the ignorance of the Trojans. In Virgil s story,
during the Trojan War, the Greeks have a plan to hide their men inside of a giant wooden horse to get
inside the city of Troy. When this enormous gift shows up in Troy, few people are suspicious, and
most people want to accept the gift. The men of Troy receive many warnings, but still end up taking
the horse into the walls of their city. Laocoön, a Trojan priest, tries to assist the Trojans and tells them,
Men of Troy, what madness has come over you?/Can you believe the enemy had truly gone?/A gift
from the Danaans, and no ruse? (II. 59 61) This priest was the first to legitimately question the gift,
and even after hearing this warning from someone so wise, the Trojans decided to accept the gift into
their city. If the Trojans would have listened to the priest, they could have won the war and saved
many lives. Instead of thinking through why their enemy would give them such a present, the men
acted impulsively and completely misjudged the situation. Not only did the Trojans receive warnings
about the horse from their own friends, but the blindly trusted a man they knew nothing about. As the
Trojans were contemplating their decision, the Greeks sent a secret weapon to trick them. Sinon, a
sneaky Greek, showed up to the gates of Troy ready to convince the Trojans to accept the Greek s gift.

How Did Samuel De Champlain Affect The World
Ever wonder what marriages were like in the 1600s? Well it was legal to date someone that was 31
years younger and at the age of 12 and that is exactly what Samuel De Champlain did.
(https://apecsec.org/interesting facts about samuel de champlain/) When Champlain reached the age of
43 he married Helene Boullé when she was 12 years old on December 30, 1610. Champlain was born
in 1574 in Brouage, France and died in 1635 in Quebec City, France. Samuel De Champlain did many
things that have affected the way we think about the world today. One of these reasons is that he
mapped the Great Lakes. Another reason is that he mapped the Atlantic coast of America. The final
reason is that he established and governed New France and the City of Quebec.

without the establishment of New France and Quebec than a big part of North America would either
not be governed by any country or could be governed by a different country which would completely
change how North America is today. Another reason is that it is important to the location and way that
Quebec is today. Without Samuel De Champlain to govern and establish it, Quebec may have been in
a completely different place, very different based on who established it, and could potentially be
nonexistent. This is why the establishment and governing of New France and Quebec has contributed

The Crucifixion Was A Form Of Capital Punishment Essay
The song says, They are nailed to the cross, they are nailed, the cross, oh how much he was willing to
bear, with great anguish and loss, Jesus went to the cross and he carried my sins with him there. You
can believe that Jesus died and rose again, you might even believe that he was crucified and that he is
coming again for his church, but if you don t believe that you have to be crucified with him, then you
have a serious problem. My brothers and sisters, for a Christian, taking up your cross and following
God is not an option, its a requirement. I pray that you find encouragement to continue on your
journey in this section.
N If you do any kind of research history will tell you that the crucifixion was a form of capital
punishment where the victim is tied or nailed to a large wooden beam, I m sure in many cases, they
have been severely beaten and wounded before being left to hang for days until they eventually die
from exhaustion and asphyxiation. As cruel and painful as this sounds, the crucifixion is still being
used in some countries today as a death penalty. We know some information about being crucified, but
few understand how brutal and cruel it is.
To say that you are being crucified with Christ and not expect to go through any kind of suffering is
simply unheard of. Lets take a closer look at the crucifixion, I think it s important for us to realize
what happens during crucifixion so we can know what we are up against.

Adversarial vs. Inquisitorial Justice Systems
The objective of an adversarial system and an inquisitorial system is similar, but the path to justice is
very different. The terms adversarial and inquisitorial are used to describe types of justice systems in
which represent common law and civil law respectively. The adversarial system is a legal system
where two parties positions are represented before an unbiased judge or a jury who attempt to
determine the truth behind the case. In an inquisitorial system, a judge contributes to the preparation
of evidence along with how the different parties are to present their case at the trial. The judge plays
the role of finding the truth and all the evidence that either proves the innocence or guilt of the
accused. The adversarial system is clearly the more impartial and accurate way to determine the truth
within a case.
The adversarial system has many great aspects which makes it the desirable system. In an adversarial
system, the police and defence are responsible for gathering evidence, and an evaluation of that
evidence is done by an unbiased judge. Judges play a role like a referee at a sporting event and the
prosecutor and defence counsel are the athletes. They watch the game and blow the whistle when they
see unfair gameplay. Canada and the United States have an adversarial justice system. This depicts
how first world countries use an adversarial system over an inquisitorial system because they
recognize that it is superior in that it is a fairer justice system. In an

When one chooses to write on a matter that seems to have been laid to rest decades ago their burden
extensively lies not in trying to argue for their position, rather in showing the relevance of their

of women, specifically disabled women. A practice prominent in the 20th century, this paper examines
coerced sterilizations from a feminist care ethics perspective and ultimately concludes that
paternalistic arguments for this practice are in fact eugenic arguments, and thus renders coerced tubal

It wasn t until the French settled in the 17th century, however, did western influence start affecting the
country. When the French took over Senegal, they changed the main crops grown by the Senegalese to

for the most part fair, to mercantilism serving the French empire. The French also introduced more
patriarchal practices by taking the land from the women and having the men work it as indentured
workers, paying them for only a small fraction. This caused a major shift in economic dependence in
families and set Senegal on a very patriarchal path. Women no longer could own land and work it for

Underwater grasses, or Elodea, was observed as well. This wide variety of life is a good indicator of
the water s health.
The chemical characteristics observed and documented were pH, temperature, phosphate, nitrate,
turbidity, and dissolved oxygen. Each of these chemical levels were documented and found differently.
Most were found using a kit or a device. The numbers found, would tell us how polluted the stream
was and how much nutrients were in the water. Each chemical has a scale for telling what a good level
is and what a bad level is. If an excess amount of nutrients was found in the water, algae could be
formed. When algae is formed it blocks sunlight from shining into the water, which creates dead
zones. This is called eutrophication. A dead zone is an area where there is no life. This can cause
major problems like population issues and more. If the algae continues to grow in the river, the whole
body of water can die out, and people as well as other organisms are very dependent on the

A Life Worth Remembering
A Life Worth Remembering Significance can be defined as being worthy of attention, and in a world
filled to the brim with more than seven billion people, it can be difficult to decipher who is actually
worthy. There are many different qualities and aspects to look at, and there may be a lot of controversy
surrounding the topic, depending upon who is determining the significance; there is no questioning the
fact that individuals come with varying opinions and in response to this, it can be very challenging in
choosing who is worthy of attention. In addition, it also raises the question of what the qualities are
that signify importance to the world. In today s world, these qualities are very mixed and significance
comes in many differing categories. A specific category that comes into play is centered around
individuals who have made a difference in the world of music. Music carries a lot of weight due to the
gift it gives to the world; especially today, many people use music as an outlet, as something that
keeps them going, as something to make everything wrong, right again. There are many different
genres and with each genre comes specific names that hold significance. An exceptional example of
this would be a woman who made a name for herself in jazz music, a woman by the name of Ella

Roy Rogers Restaurants
What should Frank Martinez do about the salad bar issue?
Objectives
1. To introduce the Inputs ~ Process ~ Outputs model
2. To illustrate the tension between standardisation and innovation
Case Synopsis
Roy Rogers Restaurants is a fast food franchise business owned by Marriott Corporation. Roy Rogers
is pursuing a strategy of aggressive growth through the licensing of independent franchisees (ie.,
independent owners) to operate its restaurant outlets. The case describes the nature of the franchise
industry and provides statistics on the major franchise organisations.
The decision in the case focuses on a request by a large and powerful franchisee to eliminate the salad
bar in a downtown Roy Rogers location. This decision seems ... Show more content on

Although there is some monitoring of outputs through financial statements, the primary focus is on the
standardisation of inputs and processes.
Inputs: Roy Rogers controls carefully who can become a franchisee, and the case provides details of
the financial and managerial qualifications that are necessary to be accepted as a franchisee. Roy
Rogers also controls tightly the design and construction criteria for new restaurants.
Process: All processes are controlled very tightly through the franchise agreement. Key processes
relate to menu, cooking procedures, training, uniforms, signage, etc. The franchise agreement provides
information relating to the extent to which Roy Rogers exercises control over key inputs and
processes.
The benefits of standardisation, as well as the risks should be understood. A top down standardisation
of concept precludes the bottom up learning that is necessary to adapt to dynamic markets. Moreover,
it is the franchisees who are close to customers, markets, and employees who have the most intimate
information about changes in demographics, markets, and customer tastes that are most likely to affect
the future direction of the business. Yet, these people are precluded from innovating or customizing
the concept to experiment or take account of local and/or changing market conditions.
Long hours, highly standardised

Tax Secrets Your Financial Advisor
Tax Secrets Your Financial Advisor Forgot to Tell You
Tax Secrets Your Financial Advisor Forgot to Tell You
Financial advisors are so busy researching investments, keeping track of the market, meeting with
clients and preparing mountains of documents that they sometimes forget to advise you about tax
secrets that can save you money. Some financial advisors concentrate on specific types pf investments,
and they often receive commissions on the products that they sell. This practice isn t inherently bad or
good, and affluent taxpayers often receive advice from various experts. Simple things like secret tax
deductions and creative tax strategies often fall through the cracks.
That s a shame because we passionately believe that you should ... Show more content on

The Biggest Tax Secret
Advisors who work on commissions can t help but favor their own investment products, but these
might not be the best fit for your needs. If your tax advisor doesn t get to know your business and
financial goals, it s likely that he or she will miss certain business opportunities and tax deductions.
The tax code is complicated, so you can t count on a generic financial advisor, harried accountant or
basic tax preparer to know every deduction for which you qualify.
Every tax deduction is better than found money. If you find $100 on the street, you owe taxes on that
money. If your tax advisor saves you $100, then it s yours to spend. Consider the following situations
where an experienced tax advisor is crucial:
Transferring wealth and the family business without paying exorbitant inheritance taxes
Settling tax debt from previous years
Use pretax money to fund retirement plans
Converting nontaxable retirement plans to taxable or Roth plans to eliminate taxes on distributions
after retiring
Planning strategies for gifts, estates and trusts
Achieving philanthropic goals while providing tax advantages
Curating a personalized tax plan
Choosing the right business entity for tax advantages
Using insurance to build tax free wealth
Avoiding the alternative minimum tax
Separating businesses into passive and active entities
Getting a bigger depreciation deduction for your business vehicle

Positive Causes And Consequences Of The Russian Revolution
WESTERN CIVILIZATION

SUBJECT: THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION
What is a revolution?
A revolution is a complete radical and pervasive change in the structure of the economy and social
structure. And it is mainly due to poverty, starving society, technology, and communication.
Russian revolution:
The tsar Nicholas II ruled Russia. Russia entered the World War I, under the leader Nicholas II.
Russian involvement in the war compounded by problems and corruption and weak economy reduced
the desperate straits. The Russian citizens were threatened because of the shortage of fuel and bread.
The Russian revolution took place in 1917 and it is a two in one revolution. One took ... Show more

The Russian Revolution widely spread Karl Marx s economic idea of communism. As we know now,
communism has not worked out in history but in the 1900 s it was a very popular idea. The Russian
Revolution had many outcomes that were good and bad. The main positive effects are that the czarist
rule comes to an end and gives workers and peasants the right to interfere in the Russian society.
Moreover, after the revolution, Lenin created free education throughout Russia. Another positive
effect was that Lenin made the eight hour working day, which greatly improved working conditions.
On the other hand, there are some negative effects resulting from the Russian revolution for sure such
as the spread of communism around the world that was the reason for World War II. Another negative
effect was that 15 million people die after the Bolsheviks and anti Bolsheviks sweep Russia. After the
revolution, people s freedom was lost and people couldn t read, write, or say whatever they want.
People were also not allowed to celebrate religion as religious leaders were murdered and churches
were destroyed.

My Favorite Day Of The Week
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep
It s a familiar sound. The infuriating, noise I absolutely despise. My deafening morning alarm. I was
in la la land riding on a unicorn, eating aromatic and saccharine chocolate cookies. When suddenly my
deep restful sleep is interrupted. Immediately, I cover my ears with my pillow and inside of myself, I
cry a river of tears. It s a Monday morning, my absolute favourite day of the week. NOT! I hate it.
Mondays are the worst. Monday is the last on my list of most cherished day in the week. Mondays are
not for me. I am not for Mondays. Okay, maybe that was dramatic but I m making a point. To be
specific, it s 5:00 a.m. in a shiver winter s morning. My body is weak, and my eyes refuse to open. I m
in a state where my mind is awake, yet my body refuses to physically move and my eyes only want to
stay shut. My feet are literally paralysed because of the extremely cold temperature. It s so cold I feel
like my body will exceed its normal body temperature of 36 degrees Celsius. I may just catch
hypothermia. Okay, not another beyond dramatic pause. I seriously need to wear my uniform. Just a
few more minutes.
Just ten more minutes, I tell myself.
I lie in bed procrastinating and contemplating about anything and everything. Why do I live so far
from school? I should ve gone to sleep earlier! Ugh! I hate Mondays. My thoughts accelerate beyond
as the loud uproarious sound of my alarm rings once again, indicating it is now 5:30 am.
That s basically

Musical notes are a language that has evolved over thousands of years and the notation that we know
today, there are more than 300 years. Music notation is a representation of sound by symbols of a
simple notation for pitch, length and timing to more advanced features of expression, timbre, and even
special effects. This book will show you the basics of reading music, some more advanced methods
and how you can learn more about the subject.
This guide focuses on musical notations and symbols found on sheet music; note counts, accidentals,
time signatures, key signatures, breaks, codas, ornaments, and articulations, to mention a few. This
guide will also include pictures and simplified definitions to make it easier for you to understand.
Modern musical notation was derived from European Classical music and is still used by musicians
around the world.
In the middle of the 19th century, it was said that the monasteries in Europe began developing
notations for Gregorian chant using neumes* or the earliest musical notation. The roots of modern
musical notation symbols are originally from the Roman Catholic Church.
Neumes These were the earliest form of musical notation, used during the middle ages by Christians,
which are still being used for Gregorian chants and plainsongs (or plainchants) nowadays.

Paul Modrich And The Dna Mismatch Repair System Essay
Claire Wisener
Paul Modrich and the DNA Mismatch Repair System
On December 10, 2015, three profound individuals received the Nobel Prize in chemistry for their
work on DNA repair systems. Paul Modrich, Thomas Lindahl, and Aziz Sancar studied how the cell
repairs and protects the information held in its DNA; specifically, Paul Modrich focused on DNA
mismatch repair. Since DNA constantly replicates, damage and incorrect pairings are expected, but
enzymes watch over DNA as it replicates and repair any errors that occur. In the mismatch repair
system, enzymes find the mismatch in the copy of DNA, cut the incorrect section out, and replace it
with the correct sequence. Paul Modrich s study of the mismatch repair system has provided the
medical field with important information regarding cancer growth and the possibility of a cure. Paul
Modrich was born June 13, 1946. Growing up in the small town of Raton in northern New Mexico
caused Modrich to have an interest in science since childhood (HHMI). The large amount of
biodiversity surrounding him sparked his interest in biology and DNA, and his father, the biology
teacher at the local high school, encouraged Modrich to pursue his interests in DNA. After graduating
from Raton High School, Modrich went on to receive his bachelor s degree in biology at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968 and later went to Stanford University to get his PhD in
biochemistry in 1973 (Duke University School of Medicine). In the late 1970s,

  • 2. Why I Want To Be A Nurse Essay Practical Nurse s Program Application Student s Name Institution Practical Nurse s Program Application Why I chose Nursing as My Career In fact, there are several reasons why I chose nursing as my profession. First and foremost is that I want to focus on changing people s lives (Nurse Journal, 2016). As a nurse, I would study the life s value when I would be seeing individuals struggling to remain alive. Since I am fully aware that each life s breadth is a gift, I would, therefore, understand this lesson further as I would be nursing various patients daily. I greatly respect human life, I possess strong values and I am compassionate for empathy and suffering, factors that have further attracted me to the nursing profession. Second, nursing profession allows continuous learning. As I like learning, I would possess unlimited opportunities for advancing my medical knowledge. As such, I would capable of choosing to work in various departments, train to become a medical assistant and as well enter the nursing management where I would grow and mentor new nurses through sharing my knowledge ... For example, as a delivery and labour nurse, I would possess the pleasure of experiencing that as a daily routine. The other motivating factor is abundant choices that suit my lifestyle. As such, nursing would enable me to work at different times of the day, for example, during the nights, evenings, weekends, and during the day. Moreover, nursing career allows traveling to and working in various places as the nursing expertise is transferable. The other motivating factor is appreciation and remembrance of the services offered. In this regard, patients normally remember certain quality services they were offered by a nurse at one time in their history while the nurse does not even remember offering such a ... • 3. Elton Mayo Human Relation Theory When we think of manager everyone gets the same image in their head of such. Someone going around giving orders and making sure employees do what they have been ordered to do. At one point managers focused on the productivity and efficient division of labor and workers as an extension of machinery also known as Scientific Management. But in the years after WW2, there was an almost immediate change to this because of the introduction of The Human Relations Theory, also known as the behavioral theory of management. This theory saw workers in a different light; they were now seen as thinking beings with needs who liked to receive attention. Companies eventually saw that attention motivated employees and even allowed them to get more out of themselves for the benefit of the organization. The man known to have discovered the behavioral theory of management was Elton Mayo. Elton Mayo (12/26/1880 09/07/1949) was a psychologist, industrial researcher, and organizational theorist. He was educated at medical schools in Edinburgh and London but lost interest in medicine at the University of Adelaide. In 1922 Mayo left the United States of America. There he acquired a Rockefeller grant there enabling him to investigate the high turnover at the textile mill. This work got the attention of the Harvard school of administration where he became a professor of industrial research in 1929 this led to him conducting research into personal and social factors determining work output at the ... • 4. Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd Analysis Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd was born on the 24th of April 1920 and was a leading Australian artist through the late 20th century. Boyd s work ranges from impressionist renderings of Australian scene to starkly expressionist figuration, and numerous artworks highlight both genres. His work features humanitarian issues and many themes such as love, loss and shame. Boyd comes from an artistic family. This had an affect on his artwork as both of his parents, Merric and Doris Boyd, were potters and painters while his brothers were both artists, one a sculptor and the other a painter. This artistic influence helped lead him into becoming an artist as he was exposed to art from a young age. His humanitarian influences and social conscience came from writers such as Dostoyevsky and Kafka. Boyd was exposed to these writers by Jewish immigrant artist Yosl Bergner who was his teacher at Melbourne night classes, which Boyd started attending at age 14 after leaving school. After this time his talent was nurtured by his grandfather who was a landscape artist. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His work then moved into a distinct period of depictions of fanciful characters in urban settings after moving to the inner city where he was influenced by his contact with European refugees. After this he was conscripted where he did not enter active duty but did create expressionistic wartime artworks. these artworks were considered powerful and painful images of the outcast as they pictured those not fit for service and the crippled. An example of this is Cripple in smoke from factory chimney. This artwork pictures a crippled person created out of the smoke from a nearby chimney. After the war Boyd, together with John Perceval founded a workshop at Murrumbeena and started to create other forms of art including pottery, ceramic painting and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through initiative and optimism, West Ghent Civic League proposed to transition the bleak plot of land into a permanent park in the early 1990 s. 10 years and $1.5 million later, the park is now considered an open natural refuge for local residents and home for various wildlife living along the Elizabeth River. Granted Plum Point Park is an artificial park, there is still a lot of potentials that the park can amount to. Due to the lack of green spaces and aesthetically appealing areas throughout the park, the scenery can become very monotonous. After all, it was written after hundreds of years worth of tyranny both at home in England (at the time), and abroad. People were standing against oppression leveled against them from thousands of miles away (for example, the Boston Tea Party), and they were called traitors to the Crown. Today, if someone speaks out against the US and its oppression, or chooses to fight back, we call him an insurgent or a terrorist. It s quite a twist. So the debate of whether or not Abu Ghraib was torture seems moot. From there, it would seem absurd to argue in support of it anywhere, in any country, for any reason. It is undeniable that what went on at Abu Ghraib was never a series of isolated incidents, which were unbeknownst to the military leadership. It is Taguba s opinion that this would not be possible (Hersh). Any person in the military is taught from day one to follow orders. These states were the ones who initially refused to ratify the Articles; they were not prepared to ratify a constitution which gave them no say in any matters. The larger states on the other hand felt that they were underrepresented. They were hoping for more equality in size (document E). Eventually, Maryland changed their minds about ratifying the constitution because they ceded the land. Since the government could not tax, they were in major financial trouble. They began to print continentals which were not backed by any commodities so they were worthless. The rest of the world meanwhile was waiting to see how Britain would react; so they were afraid to get too friendly with the colonists. The colonists though, knew that it was time to build up trade and trust with other countries. Eventually, their financial plans fell through, so France and the Netherlands made loans and were able to help keep the United States afloat. Inequality can serve as an indication of the shortage of income mobility and opportunity―a reflection of the perpetual disadvantage for certain sectors of society. In addition, removing other tax reliefs would increase equity and allow a growth enhancing cut in marginal labour income tax rates. • 16. Robin Hood Outlaw In mid 14th century Nottingham, under the rule of King Edward II, an outlaw named Robin Hood emerged from Sherwood Forest with his entourage of outlaws he claimed his Merry Men. Robin Hood and his Merry Men have gone down in history as the band of outlaws whom were said to have stolen from the rich and given to the poor, not to mention ridding Nottingham of the malicious Sheriff. Many historians have been questioning the amount of truth behind the story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men that has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries, but no one knows for sure what really happened. There are many theories referring to Robin Hood s existence, but one in particular seems more plausible than the rest that the story of Robin Hood is the story of not just one man and his entourage, but a collection of admirable people who helped change society for the greater good. Robin Hood was believed to be a heroic outlaw in the mid 14th century, who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. But who s to say that Robin Hood was the only one who did this? What if Robin Hood s figure was a summary of what the majority of outlaws of this time used to do and what gave them their outlaw title? • 17. A Walnut Sized Organ The prostate is a walnut sized organ that is located between behind the pelvic bone. It is distal to the bladder and rests on the rectum. It helps urine flow out of the body; because of where the prostate is located it can impair the flow of urine if the organ enlarges. It also secretes fluid that nourishes and protects the sperm (WebMD). The prostate is located posterior to the pubic symphysis, inferior to the bladder, and anterior to the rectum. It is covered with three layers of fascia which are the anterior, lateral, and posterior aspects (Muruve). A normal prostate gland is said to be approximately 20g in volume, 3.5 cm in length and 4cm wide and 2cm in depth. The prostate gland is divided into two main parts: the central zone and the thick outer zone which is called the peripheral zone. There is also a small portion of the gland that is called the transitional zone. The central zone is the area that surrounds the ejaculatory ducts. About 1 5% of adenocarcinomas can be found in the prostate gland. The peripheral zone covers that lateral aspects of the prostate. It contains 70% of glandular tissue (Muruve). The transitional zone consists from the bladder neck to the membranous urethra. In this zone benign prostatic hyperplasia occurs which leads to an obstruction of the bladder outlet. Prostate cancer usually shows up in the transitional zone. Prostate cancer is where the cells in the prostate gland start to grow uncontrollably. Main Text: Most of the prostate ... • 19. Exploring Inferential Statistics and Their Discontents What are degrees of freedom? The degrees of freedom (df) of an estimate is the number or function of sample size of information on which the estimate is based and are free to vary relating to the sample size (Jackson, 2012; Trochim Donnelly, 2008). How are the calculated? The degrees of freedom for an estimate equals the number of values minus the number of factors expected en route to the approximation in question. Therefore, the degrees of freedom of an estimate of variance is equal to N 1, where N is the number of observations (Jackson, 2012). Given a single set of six numbers (N) the df = 6 1 = 5. What are your options if your dependent variable scores are not normally distributed? Transformation of data using a logarithm, square root, reciprocal, or some other function assists in normalizing the data and correcting for heteroscedasiticy, nonlinearity, and outliers when one or more variables are not normally distributed (Abrams, 1999; Bland Altman, 1996). The extent of the deviations from normality determines the specific transformation used. A moderate difference in normality uses a square root transformation, more substantially non normal uses a log transformation, and severely non normal would use an inverse transformation (Abrams, 1999). The aim of data transformation allows for changing the non normal distributed population data into more useful variable and is not uncommon as the basic statistical summaries such as the sample mean, variance, z scores, histograms, etc., are all transformed data and require the data follow a particular distribution (Bland Altman, 1996; Trochim Donnelly, 2008). Part II What does p = .05 mean? P = .05, or p value, is a probability measurement that the confidence of the research questions or null hypothesis is correct and has a less than 5 percent observed outcome on a normal distribution curve thus having statistically significant. Teenage Drinking Essay Teenage Drinking According to Lang nine out of ten high school seniors have used alcohol, one out of twenty use it daily, and one out of three will get drunk during any given weekend (back cover). I did not bother looking in the encyclopedia because I figured that the people who wrote these books had already done it for me. The first book I looked through was by Alan R. This is what makes different kinds of people engage in a wide array of behaviors, such as when two people drink the same amount of alcohol but the person who has more body mass does not feel the effects of the alcohol. Two of the most influential fairy tale tellers in history were the German Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. Both very intelligent scholars, they knew how to spin a tale in the most effective way possible. However, they had plenty of work just dealing with the tales text, so in the area of illustration, they let their younger brother Ludwig take over, beginning with the second edition of their fairy tales. He worked in many styles and media, too, ranging from rough sketches to detailed engravings, from blurred watercolors to meticulous drawings. One of Ludwig s greatest artistic gifts was his ability to give very real personalities to the faces of his subjects by using various facial expressions and a masterful command of the different positions and characteristics of the eyes. This ability, along with his interest in nature and his use of a myriad of subjects, including all types of people and landscapes, lent itself well to the illustration of fairy tales. The second edition of the first volume of the Grimms Fairy Tales marked Ludwig s first involvement with fairy tales. Achim von Arnim, who lent money, editing and publishing services, and advice to the Grimms, had only one criticism of the enormously successful first edition of Fairy Tales: it needed illustrations. The logical choice to fill this void in the second edition was Ludwig, who made a series of engravings to accompany the text published in 1819. Since that book was published, nearly every ... The terms adversarial and inquisitorial are used to describe types of justice systems in which represent common law and civil law respectively. The adversarial system is a legal system where two parties positions are represented before an unbiased judge or a jury who attempt to determine the truth behind the case. In an inquisitorial system, a judge contributes to the preparation of evidence along with how the different parties are to present their case at the trial. The judge plays the role of finding the truth and all the evidence that either proves the innocence or guilt of the accused. The adversarial system is clearly the more impartial and accurate way to determine the truth within a case. The adversarial system has many great aspects which makes it the desirable system. In an adversarial system, the police and defence are responsible for gathering evidence, and an evaluation of that evidence is done by an unbiased judge. Judges play a role like a referee at a sporting event and the prosecutor and defence counsel are the athletes. They watch the game and blow the whistle when they see unfair gameplay. The numbers found, would tell us how polluted the stream was and how much nutrients were in the water. Each chemical has a scale for telling what a good level is and what a bad level is. If an excess amount of nutrients was found in the water, algae could be formed. When algae is formed it blocks sunlight from shining into the water, which creates dead zones. This is called eutrophication. A dead zone is an area where there is no life. This can cause major problems like population issues and more. If the algae continues to grow in the river, the whole body of water can die out, and people as well as other organisms are very dependent on the Susquehanna. While on the river though, there was an absence of algae, so sunlight is able to get through the water, which is very good. Physical characteristics are important as well. While canoeing, many things were observed and notices. Tires were seen at the bottom of the river. This is most likely because of the highway that runs on both sides or the river, and over it on bridges too. Because of the highway, there is a high risk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roy Rogers also controls tightly the design and construction criteria for new restaurants. Process: All processes are controlled very tightly through the franchise agreement. Key processes relate to menu, cooking procedures, training, uniforms, signage, etc. The franchise agreement provides information relating to the extent to which Roy Rogers exercises control over key inputs and processes. The benefits of standardisation, as well as the risks should be understood. A top down standardisation of concept precludes the bottom up learning that is necessary to adapt to dynamic markets. Moreover, it is the franchisees who are close to customers, markets, and employees who have the most intimate information about changes in demographics, markets, and customer tastes that are most likely to affect the future direction of the business. • 49. Paul Modrich And The Dna Mismatch Repair System Essay Claire Wisener Paul Modrich and the DNA Mismatch Repair System On December 10, 2015, three profound individuals received the Nobel Prize in chemistry for their work on DNA repair systems. Paul Modrich, Thomas Lindahl, and Aziz Sancar studied how the cell repairs and protects the information held in its DNA; specifically, Paul Modrich focused on DNA mismatch repair. Since DNA constantly replicates, damage and incorrect pairings are expected, but enzymes watch over DNA as it replicates and repair any errors that occur. In the mismatch repair system, enzymes find the mismatch in the copy of DNA, cut the incorrect section out, and replace it with the correct sequence. Paul Modrich s study of the mismatch repair system has provided the medical field with important information regarding cancer growth and the possibility of a cure. Paul Modrich was born June 13, 1946. Growing up in the small town of Raton in northern New Mexico caused Modrich to have an interest in science since childhood (HHMI). The large amount of biodiversity surrounding him sparked his interest in biology and DNA, and his father, the biology teacher at the local high school, encouraged Modrich to pursue his interests in DNA. After graduating from Raton High School, Modrich went on to receive his bachelor s degree in biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968 and later went to Stanford University to get his PhD in biochemistry in 1973 (Duke University School of Medicine).
