A History of Roller Coasters Essay
Roller coasters are one of the most popular rides when you go to an amusement park with everybody
in your family. Why are they so scary for some people while for others it is just another adrenaline
rush? Roller Coasters are one of the most complicated rides to build and to actually ride. There are
some people who just have fun building something to have a quick adrenaline rush before going to
work. Roller coasters have some of the most interesting design and history; they have become one of
the world s famous rides at every amusement park. The first real roller coaster was built in 1878 on
Coney Island which was built by La Marcus Thompson. The roller coaster was made out of wood and
went down hill. To get to this roller coaster you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The roller coaster would go through some quick turns, some dips, and then the ride would be done.
Kids and parents would both have fun going on the ride together. The kiddie coaster was introduced
by Herb Schmeck. Most of the roller coaster wouldn t go any higher than forty feet up in the air. When
it came to the 1960 s amusement parks were fighting to see who had the best roller coasters. It had
turned into an arms race for amusement parks in the US. Over sixteen million dollars was used that
year to help create new parks and rides. Places like Six Flags had become very big, to the point where
they started to expand in 1963 which was huge. This meant they had three parks they were running in
the US. Wooden roller coasters also dominated the 60 s because they were brought to a whole new
level. They had become faster and you were able to create more effects with the railway. You were
able to drop a hundred feet down and go under another part of the track, without getting hurt. When it
came to the 1970 s nothing much happened except for what is known as the baby boom of amusement
parks. Amusement parks were popping up everywhere in the US. Six Flags had become an amusement
park chain for the country and other parks were popping up everywhere. The biggest part about this
boom was what type of roller coasters people were building. Steel roller coasters were popping up
everywhere in the country and they were nothing like anyone had seen before. They were faster than

St Wren Cathedral Essay
This research is going to address The Cathedral of Saint Paul building which has been in existence, in
various buildings since 1841. St. Paul s Cathedral, which was designed by the architect Sir
Christopher Wren, is one of the commonest iconic Anglican Cathedral buildings. It is the tallest
structure in London since its completion in 1710 till 1967 and it is the seat of the Bishop of London
and is devoted to Paul, the Apostle. It dates back to the original church on the site. Wren was inspired
by contemporary Renaissance trends in Italian architecture, and designed the cathedral in a restrained
Baroque style, attempting to combine the traditions of English medieval cathedrals with the classical
style of Inigo Jones and French buildings by Mansart. St. Paul s is unusual among cathedrals in that it
has a crypt which extends under the entire building rather than just under the eastern end. The most
important feature is the dome which is also among the highest in the world. To ensure the dome
appeared visually satisfying when viewed both externally and internally, Wren designed a double
shelled dome, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

selected to design what we know today as the fourth St. Paul s Cathedral. Due to the demand of
building a new Cathedral which is of modern in its building, perfect in its acoustics, in its sanitary,
ventilating, heating and other details, there was need for other designers. This was the first cathedral to
be built after the English Reformation in the sixteenth century, when Henry VIII removed the Church

John Lennon Accomplishments
John Lennon s life as a Beatle began when he was 20 years old, and even though the band may have
broken up, his love for music never died. Along with being a music lover, he was a large peace
activist. Not only him, but also his wife, Yoko Ono. Together they traveled the world, going to
different places and spreading their voices and opinions, trying to be heard, and trying to change the
way society looked at things. Throughout John Lennon s career, he and Ono dedicated a large portion
of their time to being anti war activists, as well as influencing this ideal on the youth. Overall, John
Lennon was a peace activist through his musical career and used his fame to draw attention to his
beliefs.
First off, Lennon had many successful pieces of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After him and his wife Yoko Ono were married, they took their two week honeymoon at the
presidential suite at the Hilton Amsterdam on March 25, 1969. Lennon referred to this protest as his
Bed In for Peace (Lifton). The press was invited into their hotel room for 12 hours each day to
observe, learn, and ask questions about Lennon and Ono s participation in the anti war peace
movement. Before the press had arrived, the press had completely different expectations than Lennon
and Ono. When the press had arrived, Lennon and Ono were dressed in their pajamas, prepared to talk
about their position on the on going Vietnam War. During these two weeks of protesting, was also the
time when Lennon and Ono recorded and released the song Give Peace a Chance, which, as said
before, became an important part of their activist careers. A lot of people might look at the idea of
sitting in bed for a week and letting your hair grow for peace remains undoubtedly silly, the couple
admitted the absurdity was part of the plan (Lifton). If this were any ordinary people, it would not
have had such an effect on the press, or society, but since John Lennon was previously a very well
known musician, he was able to use his fame to his advantage. This allowed him to lure in the
paparazzi to publicize the event. Lennon confronted unfair conditions unlike anyone else, due to his

Sexuality In Alice Walker s Everyday Use
Sexuality, as defined officially by the Oxford English Dictionary, is a capacity for one s sexual
feelings. Even as an official language dictionary term, this shrinks down the very broad term that is
sexuality; which cannot be discussed truly nor analysed fully without viewing gender and social
construction, especially in the ever diversifying 21st Century in which gender and sexuality have
become such a fluid construct. Alternatively, gender is defined as the traditional state of being male or
female by the English Dictionary. Yet again, the exact dedicated definitions of these terms do little to
nothing to comprehend the complex truth to the worldly understanding of them.
The similarity between sexuality and gender is the assumption that ... Show more content on

Not agreeing with the social norms can be critical to one s safety, wildly enough. The assumptions that
have been made of people of particular genders are likened loosely to that of ones made upon people
of varying sexualities. The history of exclusion and violence is a realistic seriousness that comes with
the territory of being queer or being of a questionable gender. This paper was written in 1944 and
remains relevant and important as of now. If one is of differing gender, allowances are rarely made. A
small example of many is the introduction of trans friendly bathrooms have begun showing in public
and while this supports the safety of a person of non conventional gender, it sparks outrage with the
next person who does not agree. A recently proposed Indiana law would make it a crime for a person
to enter a single sex public restroom that does not match the person s biological gender, defined in
terms of chromosomes and sex at birth. (Suk Gersen). Even this article author, who should remain
partial for the most part questions the law by putting emphasis upon the assumption of biological
gender, which is considered a construct by many, including Judith

Manipulation In Susan Beth Pfeffer s Ashes
Susan Beth Pfeffer s short story Ashes is about a girl named Ashes and her father. Ashes s father tries
to manipulate and convince her to steal $200 from her mother. He is being overly nice and butters her
up to make her steal the money. Ashes starts to contemplate if she should trust her father and take the
money. One lesson emerging from Ashes is that manipulation from someone you should be able to
trust can be harmful. One scene from Ashes uses short sentences to show manipulation from her
father. Her father says, You look radiant. , You get more and more beautiful. , You re one in a million. ,
and I wish I deserved you. This shows that he is buttering Ashes up to steal the money that he later
reveals he needs. He also says that with that money he would be set for life which will make Ashes
more tempted to take the money. In this next scene, Ashes is conversing with her father about the $200
dollars. Ashes offers to help get the $200 dollars. The line Dad smiled like I d offered him the key to
the mint. I love you so much, he said. You re ten thousand times better than I deserve, Ashes reveals
even further that her father is buttering her up to do something. The excerpt I had a thought , he ...

History According to the author Fissell, Brenner M., in the article Jury Nullification and the Rule of
Law, published in the Legal Theory journal, Brenner states that It is generally understood that
nullification takes place whenever jurors refuse to apply the law to a given set of facts, but there are
many different circumstances in which this might occur, and different motivations are at work in each.
More precision is necessary. Linder states that the word jury nullification is defined by the definition
nullification, which states that to nullify something is to render [it] of no value, use, or efficacy; to
reduce to nothing, to cancel out (Fissell). Jury nullification is much more common amongst criminal
cases, but one may experience such a thing with a civil case as well (Fissell). Jury Nullification deals
with an aspect of the publics overall acceptance on some aspects of the law (Fissell). The term
community morality is used to explain the overall influence of a smaller geographic entity on a larger
group (Fissell). In England, around 1670 is when there was the first jury nullification case between
William Penn and William Mead, states author Julian Heicklen from the article Jury Nullification. It
was not introduced to the United States until the 1700s, in the case of Zenger vs New York Governor
William Cosby (Heicklen). Which now brings us to the first case, John Zenger.
According to Linder, Doug with The University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law in the
article The Trial of John Peter Zenger: An Account, published in 2001, Linder states that No country
values free expression more highly than does the United States, and no case in American history
stands as a greater landmark on the road to protection for freedom of the press than the

I Swear If There s Ever Another War
My author lived in New York which influenced the setting of the story. The time period was around
the 1950s and everyone had very specific ways that they believed people should live their lives. The
main belief in the culture was that people should be focused on getting a good job and material
possessions (according to History of the 1950s). In the story Holden wants to live his life very
differently and when he tells his plans to Sally she starts to tell him how dumb the idea sounds
because it goes against the social norms she says We ll have oodles of time to do those things all those
things. I mean after you got to college and all, and if we should get married and all (J.D. Salinger
pg.133). Holden s idea was that He had about a hundred and eighty bucks in the bank. He could take it

Salinger was drafted into World War 2 a couple years before he finished writing this book. After the
war, Salinger had a nervous breakdown and was hospitalized (according to biography in context) . In
the book Salinger writes I swear if there s ever another war, they better just take out and stick me in
front of a firing squad. (Salinger pg. 141). The author writes very negatively about the war because of
all the stress it caused him. He also writes I m sort of glad they ve got the atomic bomb invented. If
there s ever another war, I m going to sit right the hell on top of it. (Salinger pg.141) which expresses
his dark feelings towards the war even more. Salinger was put in a mental hospital after the war and
that led him to write this in his book And how I got sick and all... A lot of people especially this
psychoanalyst guy they have here, keeps asking me if I m going to apply myself when I go back to
school. (Salinger pg.141). Holden hints at the fact that he was placed in a mental hospital although it
was for a different reason it is a very similar situation to what happened with

My Cultural Aspects Of My Identity
Imagine that you could split yourself in two in order to be in two different countries at the same time
so that you could experience each culture, taste their food, listen to their language and absorb every bit
of information that these two places offer. In my case, this is how my mind and my family gatherings
feel like. I was born and raised in Ecuador but I am also an American citizen. My family is half
Ecuadorian and half American; each has kept their native countries traditions alive within their lives
and homes. I grew up listening to different accents, learning two languages and experiencing the best,
the worst, and everything in between in both cultures. In the middle of this beautiful and confusing
environment I have realized that my dual cultural background has highly influenced my beliefs,
decisions, thoughts and actions. Being Ecuadorian American is an essential part of my identity.
When I was a child, I thought that every family was similar to mine. At that time, I didn´t notice the
cultural differences that surrounded me; and, I didn´t know the implications this would have later in
my life. In Elementary School, as I began to interact with children to whom I was not related, I
realized that while some families were similar to mine others behaved very differently because they
were entirely Ecuadorian. Although my individuality was already being shaped as a young girl, I could
not possibly know how or why. I began to clearly notice this as teenager when I

11SOR Multimodal Presentation
From its creation in the late 20th century the internet has become a part of our everyday lives. In
Catholicism, Confession is a very important ritual for the forgiveness of sins. Now that society is
evolving onto the online world, so are the rituals and practices of the Catholic Church. I believe an
online Confession app has the authenticity of an offline one, but lacks the effectiveness of the
sacrament as it was intended to be. In order to understand this opinion, you must recognise Smart s 7

These 7 features include the Doctrinal and Philosophical Dimension, Narrative or Mythological
Dimension, the Ethical and Legal Dimension, the Practical and Ritual Dimension, the Experiential and
Emotional Dimension, the Social and Institutional Dimension and the Material Dimension. These
dimensions collaborate with each other to form the basis on which a ritual lies. In the Catholic
sacrament of confession, these dimensions all play an important part which contributes to the outcome
of the ritual. The Doctrinal and Philosophical dimension describes the dimension which incorporates
the intellectual components of religions. The Narrative or Mythological dimension is the dimension
which makes up the stories of religions, for example the story of creation or dreamtime stories. The
Ethical and Legal dimension concerns what is good and bad, and what you must do if you do
something against the religion. The Practical and Ritual dimension is what the adherents of a religion
do as a part of the religion, such as prayer and ritual. The Experiential and Emotional dimension
focuses on the subjective and emotional side of the religion or what happens on the inside. The Social
and Institutional side of the religion is how people s interactions are planned within the religion. The
final dimension, Material, is the physical forms of the religion, such as a church or a statue. Although
these 7 dimensions aid the process of determining whether or not an action is a ritual, confession is

Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, one of the greatest short fiction writers in history. At the age of 20

According to the acting school stop website, Chekhov s views on the job of the actor was not to
imitate life, but rather to interpret it, to bring out its hidden meaning to the audience. For this, they
must be able to act with ease, bring form and beauty to their creative expressions, and see the big
picture so they can convey it in their performance, (Michael). This site goes on to discuss the things
that his Method consists of. Discussed first is the idea of allowing the body to be trained to be
receptive so that it can convey the inner life and emotions of a character to the audience. Chekhov
thought that method acting was very unhealthy for the actor and stunted creativity and inspiration for a
character. He instead wanted actors to get into the mindset of the character and learn to understand
why they do what they do through analysis. He encouraged students to go into the world and watch
real people interacting with each other and with the world around them to draw inspiration for
themselves. His method consists of a lot of inner analysis, meaning using your brain and your own
creativity and imagination to explore the characters reality. It also suggests that an actor should learn
to imagine their environment and its atmosphere/ conditions to better understand the physicalizations
of the character. For example, if its cold outside, or

Alexander The Great Reputation
The Great Historical Reputation Alexander the Great, also known as Alexander the third, was the king
of Macedonia a Greece kingdom. Alexander was also known by many to be a member of the Argead
dynasty. The Argead dynasty was a group house for only rulers. Many may believe Alexander earned
his legacy, respect and reputation after his father s reputation however that is not accurate. Alexander
earned his legacy by working hard and building his own name. He succeeded greatly, won wars and
extended the empire. His father Philip was the king of Macedonia as well. Phillip was actively
engaging in wars/ battles, made an expansionist policy and by doing other things benefiting the
Macedonian people. That is how Philip maintained his respect as a king. After reading the issue in

Feminism in Lysistrata
Name Institution Instructor Date of submission Feminism in Ancient Greek Culture from the
Perspective of Lysistrata Lysistrata is portrayed as a hero by Aristophanes and just as Antigone had
played a social role in politics, so is Lysistrata portrayed. Most ancient Greek writers were people who
had established themselves in the society. They were people of class, and when they wrote about
women, they mostly wrote about women from their own social class. Women were shown to
participate only in the domestic roles of childbearing and that saw many women confined to their
houses. They rarely ventured out of the proximity of their domestic dwellings, let alone participate in
manly politics. Lysistrata, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lysistrata has challenged male authority in a bold way. This is a complete turnaround from the place
in which Greek women were said to hold in their society. In this case, women stereotypes are proven
wrong as women are shown as the opposite of being submissive and flaccid, the opposite is true as
women are shown to be defiant. Women in Greece were never allowed to go out into the public and
public spaces were often referred to as the male s domain. Being out in the public was a privilege only
delegated to men in ancient Greece. The act of Lysistrata standing out in the open and urging women
to denounce their traditions and instead become active politically is in itself an act of defiance. This
saw women enter the realm of masculinity, which is the best display of feminism. Lysistrata showed
that a woman was worthy of venturing out in the public just as their men did. The public space no
longer belonged to the men, but to women as well. Lysistrata even goes as far as holding rallies and
performing ritualistic activities out in the open for all to see. Lysistrata formulates a plan in which,
women take the Treasury of the city of Athens as hostage. They barricade the gates and bar men from
entering the city. Lysistrata claimed that a lot of money is being used to fund the war, but without the
money, the men would eventually surrender to their demand to end the war. Women in ancient Greece

Willy Loman Death Of A Salesman Essay
The Two Willy Lomans in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
There are two Willy Lomans in The Death of a Salesman. There is the present broken, exhausted man
in his sixties, soon to end his life. And there is the more confident, vigorous Willy of some fifteen
years before, who appears in the flashbacks. One actor portrays both, readily shifting from one

At this point, however, relations are strained. Although Willy shies away from remembering so painful
an episode, he knows in his heart that the Boston affair left the boy bitterly disillusioned. Feeling some
sense of guilt, Willy fears that all of Biff s later difficulties may have been really attempts to get
revenge. Biff has failed, in other words, mainly to spite Willy. Although outwardly resenting such
alleged vindictiveness. Willy still wants to get back the old comradeship, even if he has to buy it

On the other hand, Willy also is emotionally involved with Biff because his son s success or failure is

adventurous challenge to head for Alaska. He would also outshine the sensible, plodding Charley and

Total War Research Paper
Total war is a government s mobilisation of all its resources to support the efforts of its own troops
and undermine those of its opponents. The British empire was in a state of total war after the euphoric
atmosphere of going to war to fight for King and Country had died down. This resulted in the Defence
of the Realm Act, known as DORA where all civilians were expected to contribute to the war effort. A
historians studying the impact of the war on the homefront, would find sources 12.10 and 12.14 of

government was to keep the soldiers at the front lines and how WWI ultimately altered the lives of
many civilians. Source 12.10 demonstrates total

The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card
The Origin and Continuation of the Greeting Card
The perfect words, the right sentiments, the ability to say exactly what we ourselves can t: just a few
ways greeting cards are defined. Greeting cards, the stars of today, started with a humble beginning.
The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged
messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the early Egyptians, who conveyed their
greetings on papyrus scrolls. By the early 1400s, handmade paper greeting cards were being
exchanged in Europe. The Germans are known to have printed New Year s greetings from woodcuts
as early as 1400, and handmade paper Valentines were being exchanged in various parts of Europe in

First in person, then via post, by 1822, homemade Christmas cards had become the bane of the U.S.
postal system. That year, the Superintendent of Mails in Washington, D.C., complained of the need to
hire sixteen extra mailmen. Fearful of future bottlenecks, he petitioned Congress to limit the exchange
of cards by post, concluding, I don t know what we ll do if it keeps on . (Panati) Of the original one
thousand cards printed for Henry Cole, twelve exist today in private collections.
Printed cards soon became the rage in England; then in Germany. But it required an additional thirty
years for Americans to take to the idea. In 1875, Boston lithographer Louis Prang, a native of
Germany, began publishing cards, and earned the title father of the American Christmas card. Prang s
high quality cards were costly, and they initially featured not images as the Madonna and Child, a
decorated tree, or even Santa Claus, but of colored floral arrangements of roses, daisies, gardenias,
geraniums, and apple blossoms. Americans took to Christmas cards, but unfortunately, not to Prang s;

The Drowned World, Comedy, And Elegy
Climate change and drastic effects go hand in hand when it comes to evaluating aspects of the
Anthropocene. Literary forms such as tragedy, comedy, and elegy play an influential role in the
discussion of these subjects, shaping the way they are interpreted and comprehended. In J.G. Ballard s
The Drowned World, the use of these literary forms frame the ideas of how climate change affects a
future Earth and what that means for humanity. Furthermore, this work manifests different emerging
trends of the Anthropocene such as terraforming, biotechnological de extinction, and cosmopolitanism
to portray an altered world. Tragedy exemplifies itself in many different forms throughout Ballard s
novel. This literary form is especially conveyed through the tragic role of Kerans and the undeserved
death of Bodkins. The question of whether Kerans takes the form of a tragic hero is a duality
presented by the actions he has performed. His heroic tendencies reveal themselves during his attempt
to refill the lagoon after it was drained by Strangman; however, his reasons for doing so were selfish,
and he fled the scene immediately after the act was completed. While the act itself displayed Keran s
noble intentions of wanting to return the lagoon to its natural pristine state of primal times, his fleeing
afterwards illustrates his true motives of heading South leaving the others to deal with the impact of
his actions. Likewise, Bodkin attempted to refill the lagoon at an earlier place in the

Hm Empire Research Paper
There are many theories imposing the possible conceptions regarding why the Khmer Empire
suddenly declined around 1431. The following report will discuss some of the major factors leading to
the collapse of the Khmer Empire. Architectural Miscalculations Evidence indicates that engineers
decided to change the course of the Siem Reap River by constructing a dam. The goal of the dam was
to direct river water toward a newly built reservoir. But the engineers miscalculated and built the dam
too shallow. The effect of this was that when monsoons arrived the dam turned into a massive
spillway. Water began flowing over the top of the dam into abandoned canals, causing catastrophic
damage to other parts of the system. Once the dam was fully breached ... Show more content on

Thais first appear in Khmer records as hired soldiers for the empire, and their numbers increased as
they began to establish themselves as settlers in the community. Eventually the Thai created their own
small kingdoms, the most important of them in the western side of the empire. As these kingdoms
grew in power, they initiated several attacks predominantly on the Empire s main territories. In order
to protect the empire, the Angkor had to direct portion of its manpower to secure strong armed forces,
which in turn, deprived itself from giving good maintenance to other important parts of the society.
The Thai eventually used a road built by Jayavarman VII to march from the Chaophaya River basin
through Phnomrung (in Burirum of modern Thailand) and then through Aranyapathet to attack the
weakened Angkor and finally defeated the extremely weakened empire in 1431. In conclusion,
scientists have not come to a final deduction on the reasoning behind the sudden collapse of the
Khmer Empire. Although, the evidence shown suggests that it was predominantly due to hydraulic
mishaps that affected many other aspects of the empire s prosperity (hygiene, defence, population,
trade)

Police brutality is a phenomenon that is occurring more and more frequently. Because of the current
police crisis happening in our country today, officers are becoming more violent and untrustworthy.
We the people have to have some sort of enforcement for society to work and without it, chaos could

The Classification Of Water Imagery Present Throughout...
Shakespeare is renowned for his vividly descriptive, original, and pioneering use of imagery in many
of his plays, but their effect on the audience s understanding of his plays is most obvious in the
tragedies, particularly in Macbeth. Images in Shakespeare s works are used, according to Shakespeare
critic G. Wilson Knight, to craft a play s atmosphere or the permeating tone or mood of a play (3).
However, this attitude between images and atmosphere creates an environment where different
definitions of images contribute to different interpretations of the subjective atmosphere that is born
out of each individual reader s perception of the play. Because of this discrepancy, a strict definition of
the term image should be observed. The term image will refer to physical objects or actions that are
used by Shakespeare to clarify broad themes and character insights throughout the play. Specifically,
the classification of water imagery present throughout Macbeth will be discussed broadly to include
descriptions of rain, water, and the act of cleansing with water, whether or not they are real or
imagined by the characters. Shakespeare uses all of these images to create an atmosphere that
highlights Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s guilt and their subsequent desire to purify their tainted
moralities. In addition to this, Macbeth will be interpreted through the lens of correcting chaos into
order. This righting of natural order is brought forth by the rainstorms of the witches to

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five Book Report
Kurt Vonnegut s novel, Slaughterhouse Five, both captured and played an important part in history.
Largely regarded as an anti war novel, Slaughterhouse Five was written as Vonnegut s response to
war. A large part of what makes the novel so impactful is the firsthand experience of the author,
having fought in and lived through WWII. The book was written in the middle of the Vietnam War, at
the peak of American involvement, making tensions high as many began to question whether or not it
was right to get involved at all. Upon the release of Slaughterhouse Five, many people for the first
time realized the true effects of war, and for some, it reiterated their anti war stance. Many regard then
novel as Vonnegut s best work, possibly due to his refusal to hold anything back, for his desire to
acknowledge the truth of war. A war veteran, Kurt Vonnegut wrote Slaughterhouse Five as a response
to the horrors he was subjected to as a soldier in WWII. Many authors are hesitant to dwell on
depressing subject matters, but it was clearly very important to Vonnegut that people were not jaded
by the media in regards to the violence and brutality he and millions of other soldiers experienced
firsthand. It is possible that Vonnegut wanted people to question the point of warfare, and ... Show

question whether or not any of it was necessary, or would make any difference at all. Others, however,

The Importance Of Employee Empowerment In Human Resource...
Employee empowerment has been a major topic that is discussed thoroughly by human resource
management teams in a lot of different companies. By definition, employee empowerment is simply
giving employees responsibility and authority to make decisions regarding all aspects of product
development or customer service, (Noe, 2016, p. 38). Companies are torn between the pros and cons
of really trusting employees to give them the authority to draw their own conclusions. This is an
important topic in HR because if this idea is done correctly, it can really improve the organizations
overall performance and this in turn will make the company more profitable. An aspect as to why
employee empowerment can help a company or employee is because the employee is held more
accountable for their actions and the outcomes of the events that take place. Either good or bad, they
will feel more connected to the work they are doing and will most certainly make them have a sense of
pride in the job they do (Noe, 2016). Empowering employees can be a way to increase innovation all
throughout companies. All employees should be able to share their ideas on how to make the
organization more efficient, safer, and operate better overall. If management listens to their employees
and implements the ideas they think will work, then this will make employees feel important and more
engaged in the workplace (Noe, 2016). Once employees feel like they have a sense of belonging to the
company, they will be more

The company has been following an acquisitive strategy by taking over hospital companies and not for

This is because there is a lack of growth opportunities through acquisition and construction of new
hospitals. HCA is expected to mature and become a cash cow by about 1987. At this stage, it is
expected to incur limited capital expenditure. Instead, the company can be milked continuously from
its existing operations and is expected to generate cash in excess of the amount required to maintain
the business. Likely impact of proposed changes to prospective reimbursement One of the significant
impacts of proposed changes to prospective reimbursement is that hospitals will be paid based on
expected fixed rates rather than actually incurred costs. Hospitals will no longer be paid using cost
plus basis (costs plus a certain percentage of profits based on costs). As a result of fixed rate payments
to hospitals, there will be more incentive for hospitals to reduce costs and improve efficiency in order
to maximise profits. The prospective reimbursement program will also result in hospitals not being
able to recoup full amount of allowable interest expense. Instead, they can only recoup the interest tax
shield portion of the interest expense. Investors

Anointing of the Sick Sacrament Paper
Sacramental graces
The Catholic Church sees the effects of the sacrament as follows: As the sacrament of Marriage gives
grace for the married state, the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick gives grace for the state into which
people enter through sickness. Through the sacrament a gift of the Holy Spirit is given, that renews
confidence and faith in God and strengthens against temptations to discouragement, despair and
anguish at the thought of death and the struggle of death; it prevents the believer from losing Christian
hope in God s justice, truth and salvation. Because one of the effects of the sacrament is to absolve the

Several sick persons may be anointed within the rite, especially if the celebration takes place in a
church or hospital. The celebration may also take place during a Catholic Mass.
[edit]Relationship with the Last Rites
Anointing of the Sick is closely associated with, and often administered during the rituals known as
the Last Rites. However, the term Last Rites is not equivalent to Anointing of the Sick , since it refers
also to two other distinct rites: Sacrament of Penance and Eucharist, the last of which is known as
Viaticum (Latin: provision for the journey ) when administered to the dying. The normal order of
administration of the rites is: first Penance (if the dying person is physically unable to confess,
absolution is given conditionally on the existence of contrition), then Anointing, then Viaticum.
Of the Last Rites, only a priest or bishop can administer the Sacraments of Penance and Anointing of
the Sick. In the absence of a priest these sacraments cannot be administered, but a lay person may give
a dying person Holy Communion, which in this case is Viaticum, the Last Sacrament of the Christian .

  • 3. A History of Roller Coasters Essay Roller coasters are one of the most popular rides when you go to an amusement park with everybody in your family. Why are they so scary for some people while for others it is just another adrenaline rush? Roller Coasters are one of the most complicated rides to build and to actually ride. There are some people who just have fun building something to have a quick adrenaline rush before going to work. Roller coasters have some of the most interesting design and history; they have become one of the world s famous rides at every amusement park. Kids and parents would both have fun going on the ride together. The kiddie coaster was introduced by Herb Schmeck. Most of the roller coaster wouldn t go any higher than forty feet up in the air. When it came to the 1960 s amusement parks were fighting to see who had the best roller coasters. It had turned into an arms race for amusement parks in the US. Over sixteen million dollars was used that year to help create new parks and rides. Places like Six Flags had become very big, to the point where they started to expand in 1963 which was huge. This meant they had three parks they were running in the US. Wooden roller coasters also dominated the 60 s because they were brought to a whole new level. When it came to the 1970 s nothing much happened except for what is known as the baby boom of amusement parks. Amusement parks were popping up everywhere in the US. St. Paul s Cathedral, which was designed by the architect Sir Christopher Wren, is one of the commonest iconic Anglican Cathedral buildings. It is the tallest structure in London since its completion in 1710 till 1967 and it is the seat of the Bishop of London and is devoted to Paul, the Apostle. It dates back to the original church on the site. Wren was inspired by contemporary Renaissance trends in Italian architecture, and designed the cathedral in a restrained Baroque style, attempting to combine the traditions of English medieval cathedrals with the classical style of Inigo Jones and French buildings by Mansart. St. Paul s is unusual among cathedrals in that it has a crypt which extends under the entire building rather than just under the eastern end. Along with being a music lover, he was a large peace activist. Not only him, but also his wife, Yoko Ono. Together they traveled the world, going to different places and spreading their voices and opinions, trying to be heard, and trying to change the way society looked at things. Throughout John Lennon s career, he and Ono dedicated a large portion of their time to being anti war activists, as well as influencing this ideal on the youth. Lennon referred to this protest as his Bed In for Peace (Lifton). The press was invited into their hotel room for 12 hours each day to observe, learn, and ask questions about Lennon and Ono s participation in the anti war peace movement. Before the press had arrived, the press had completely different expectations than Lennon and Ono. When the press had arrived, Lennon and Ono were dressed in their pajamas, prepared to talk about their position on the on going Vietnam War. During these two weeks of protesting, was also the time when Lennon and Ono recorded and released the song Give Peace a Chance, which, as said before, became an important part of their activist careers. A lot of people might look at the idea of sitting in bed for a week and letting your hair grow for peace remains undoubtedly silly, the couple admitted the absurdity was part of the plan (Lifton). If this were any ordinary people, it would not have had such an effect on the press, or society, but since John Lennon was previously a very well known musician, he was able to use his fame to his advantage. This allowed him to lure in the paparazzi to publicize the event. Lennon confronted unfair conditions unlike anyone else, due to his fame from being a member of the ... • 6. Sexuality In Alice Walker s Everyday Use Sexuality, as defined officially by the Oxford English Dictionary, is a capacity for one s sexual feelings. Even as an official language dictionary term, this shrinks down the very broad term that is sexuality; which cannot be discussed truly nor analysed fully without viewing gender and social construction, especially in the ever diversifying 21st Century in which gender and sexuality have become such a fluid construct. Alternatively, gender is defined as the traditional state of being male or female by the English Dictionary. Yet again, the exact dedicated definitions of these terms do little to nothing to comprehend the complex truth to the worldly understanding of them. The similarity between sexuality and gender is the assumption that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not agreeing with the social norms can be critical to one s safety, wildly enough. A small example of many is the introduction of trans friendly bathrooms have begun showing in public and while this supports the safety of a person of non conventional gender, it sparks outrage with the next person who does not agree. Ashes s father tries to manipulate and convince her to steal $200 from her mother. He is being overly nice and butters her up to make her steal the money. Ashes starts to contemplate if she should trust her father and take the money. One lesson emerging from Ashes is that manipulation from someone you should be able to trust can be harmful. One scene from Ashes uses short sentences to show manipulation from her father. Her father says, You look radiant. , You get more and more beautiful. , You re one in a million. , and I wish I deserved you. This shows that he is buttering Ashes up to steal the money that he later reveals he needs. He also says that with that money he would be set for life which will make Ashes more tempted to take the money. In this next scene, Ashes is conversing with her father about the $200 dollars. Ashes offers to help get the $200 dollars. The line Dad smiled like I d offered him the key to the mint. I love you so much, he said. History According to the author Fissell, Brenner M., in the article Jury Nullification and the Rule of Law, published in the Legal Theory journal, Brenner states that It is generally understood that nullification takes place whenever jurors refuse to apply the law to a given set of facts, but there are many different circumstances in which this might occur, and different motivations are at work in each. More precision is necessary. Linder states that the word jury nullification is defined by the definition nullification, which states that to nullify something is to render [it] of no value, use, or efficacy; to reduce to nothing, to cancel out (Fissell). Jury nullification is much more common amongst criminal cases, but one may experience such a thing with a civil case as well (Fissell). Jury Nullification deals with an aspect of the publics overall acceptance on some aspects of the law (Fissell). The term community morality is used to explain the overall influence of a smaller geographic entity on a larger group (Fissell). In England, around 1670 is when there was the first jury nullification case between William Penn and William Mead, states author Julian Heicklen from the article Jury Nullification. It was not introduced to the United States until the 1700s, in the case of Zenger vs New York Governor William Cosby (Heicklen). Which now brings us to the first case, John Zenger. According to Linder, Doug with The University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law in the article The Trial of John Peter Zenger: An Account, published in 2001, Linder states that No country values free expression more highly than does the United States, and no case in American history stands as a greater landmark on the road to protection for freedom of the press than the ... My Cultural Aspects Of My Identity Imagine that you could split yourself in two in order to be in two different countries at the same time so that you could experience each culture, taste their food, listen to their language and absorb every bit of information that these two places offer. Women in Greece were never allowed to go out into the public and public spaces were often referred to as the male s domain. Being out in the public was a privilege only delegated to men in ancient Greece. The act of Lysistrata standing out in the open and urging women to denounce their traditions and instead become active politically is in itself an act of defiance. This saw women enter the realm of masculinity, which is the best display of feminism. Lysistrata showed that a woman was worthy of venturing out in the public just as their men did. The public space no longer belonged to the men, but to women as well. Lysistrata even goes as far as holding rallies and performing ritualistic activities out in the open for all to see. Literary forms such as tragedy, comedy, and elegy play an influential role in the discussion of these subjects, shaping the way they are interpreted and comprehended. In J.G. Ballard s The Drowned World, the use of these literary forms frame the ideas of how climate change affects a future Earth and what that means for humanity. Furthermore, this work manifests different emerging trends of the Anthropocene such as terraforming, biotechnological de extinction, and cosmopolitanism to portray an altered world. Tragedy exemplifies itself in many different forms throughout Ballard s novel. This literary form is especially conveyed through the tragic role of Kerans and the undeserved death of Bodkins. The question of whether Kerans takes the form of a tragic hero is a duality presented by the actions he has performed. His heroic tendencies reveal themselves during his attempt to refill the lagoon after it was drained by Strangman; however, his reasons for doing so were selfish, and he fled the scene immediately after the act was completed. While the act itself displayed Keran s noble intentions of wanting to return the lagoon to its natural pristine state of primal times, his fleeing afterwards illustrates his true motives of heading South leaving the others to deal with the impact of his actions. The goal of the dam was to direct river water toward a newly built reservoir. But the engineers miscalculated and built the dam too shallow. Because of the current police crisis happening in our country today, officers are becoming more violent and untrustworthy. We the people have to have some sort of enforcement for society to work and without it, chaos could ensue. • 28. The Classification Of Water Imagery Present Throughout... Shakespeare is renowned for his vividly descriptive, original, and pioneering use of imagery in many of his plays, but their effect on the audience s understanding of his plays is most obvious in the tragedies, particularly in Macbeth. Images in Shakespeare s works are used, according to Shakespeare critic G. Wilson Knight, to craft a play s atmosphere or the permeating tone or mood of a play (3). However, this attitude between images and atmosphere creates an environment where different definitions of images contribute to different interpretations of the subjective atmosphere that is born out of each individual reader s perception of the play. Because of this discrepancy, a strict definition of the term image should be observed. The term image will refer to physical objects or actions that are used by Shakespeare to clarify broad themes and character insights throughout the play. Specifically, the classification of water imagery present throughout Macbeth will be discussed broadly to include descriptions of rain, water, and the act of cleansing with water, whether or not they are real or imagined by the characters. Shakespeare uses all of these images to create an atmosphere that highlights Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s guilt and their subsequent desire to purify their tainted moralities. In addition to this, Macbeth will be interpreted through the lens of correcting chaos into order. This righting of natural order is brought forth by the rainstorms of the witches to ... • 30. Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five Book Report Kurt Vonnegut s novel, Slaughterhouse Five, both captured and played an important part in history. Largely regarded as an anti war novel, Slaughterhouse Five was written as Vonnegut s response to war. A large part of what makes the novel so impactful is the firsthand experience of the author, having fought in and lived through WWII. The book was written in the middle of the Vietnam War, at the peak of American involvement, making tensions high as many began to question whether or not it was right to get involved at all. Upon the release of Slaughterhouse Five, many people for the first time realized the true effects of war, and for some, it reiterated their anti war stance. Many regard then novel as Vonnegut s best work, possibly due to his refusal to hold anything back, for his desire to acknowledge the truth of war. A war veteran, Kurt Vonnegut wrote Slaughterhouse Five as a response to the horrors he was subjected to as a soldier in WWII. Many authors are hesitant to dwell on depressing subject matters, but it was clearly very important to Vonnegut that people were not jaded by the media in regards to the violence and brutality he and millions of other soldiers experienced firsthand. It is possible that Vonnegut wanted people to question the point of warfare, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 31. Wheeling Symphony Orchestra I recently attended the opening night of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Wheeling. The experience of seeing a live orchestra for the first time was very unique and pleasant to me. The feel and atmosphere was much different from what you would experience at a country or hip hop concert. The venue was very quiet and respectful, no one was talking or playing around on their cell phones. Whereas my prior concert experiences had consisted of musicians aiming to be as loud and energetic as possible to invoke excitement in the audience, the orchestra put out a different feel for the audience. The orchestra aimed to invoke and emotional and appreciative response from the audience. The orchestra opened with Rossini s La Gazza Ladra Overture. I think I enjoyed this piece the most because I was able to focus on the cellist and really see just how much passion she had through the way she played each line. Following a short intermission, the whole orchestra was present for Shostakovich s Fifth Symphony. This symphony was very long compared to the music I am accustomed to. The orchestra took breaks every once in awhile for a few short seconds which I did not expect. The symphony had a little bit of everything in terms of music and instrumentation. Some parts were sad, some dramatic, and some energetic. At times, it almost felt to me as if the music was telling a story. The ending was incredible; it was fast paced and full of ... • 33. The Importance Of Employee Empowerment In Human Resource... Employee empowerment has been a major topic that is discussed thoroughly by human resource management teams in a lot of different companies. By definition, employee empowerment is simply giving employees responsibility and authority to make decisions regarding all aspects of product development or customer service, (Noe, 2016, p. 38). Companies are torn between the pros and cons of really trusting employees to give them the authority to draw their own conclusions. This is an important topic in HR because if this idea is done correctly, it can really improve the organizations overall performance and this in turn will make the company more profitable. An aspect as to why employee empowerment can help a company or employee is because the employee is held more accountable for their actions and the outcomes of the events that take place. Either good or bad, they will feel more connected to the work they are doing and will most certainly make them have a sense of pride in the job they do (Noe, 2016). Empowering employees can be a way to increase innovation all throughout companies. All employees should be able to share their ideas on how to make the organization more efficient, safer, and operate better overall. If management listens to their employees and implements the ideas they think will work, then this will make employees feel important and more engaged in the workplace (Noe, 2016). Once employees feel like they have a sense of belonging to the company, they will be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The company has been following an acquisitive strategy by taking over hospital companies and not for profit hospitals. The firm is also considering expanding into new health service areas like home health care and outpatient surgery. The company is at a crossroads with regard to its financial goals; HCA currently faces the likelihood of adverse changes to the Medicare/Medicaid policy which could strain the company s profitability along with a substantial increase in financial leverage risks coupled with an increase in required expenditure to reap the effect of prospective operating synergies like economies of scale and scope from the ... HCA is expected to mature and become a cash cow by about 1987. At this stage, it is expected to incur limited capital expenditure. Instead, the company can be milked continuously from its existing operations and is expected to generate cash in excess of the amount required to maintain the business. Likely impact of proposed changes to prospective reimbursement One of the significant impacts of proposed changes to prospective reimbursement is that hospitals will be paid based on expected fixed rates rather than actually incurred costs. Hospitals will no longer be paid using cost plus basis (costs plus a certain percentage of profits based on costs). As a result of fixed rate payments to hospitals, there will be more incentive for hospitals to reduce costs and improve efficiency in order to maximise profits. The prospective reimbursement program will also result in hospitals not being able to recoup full amount of allowable interest expense. Instead, they can only recoup the interest tax shield portion of the interest expense. Investors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anointing of the Sick Sacrament Paper Sacramental graces The Catholic Church sees the effects of the sacrament as follows: As the sacrament of Marriage gives grace for the married state, the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick gives grace for the state into which people enter through sickness. Through the sacrament a gift of the Holy Spirit is given, that renews confidence and faith in God and strengthens against temptations to discouragement, despair and anguish at the thought of death and the struggle of death; it prevents the believer from losing Christian hope in God s justice, truth and salvation. The celebration may also take place during a Catholic Mass. [edit]Relationship with the Last Rites Anointing of the Sick is closely associated with, and often administered during the rituals known as the Last Rites. However, the term Last Rites is not equivalent to Anointing of the Sick , since it refers also to two other distinct rites: Sacrament of Penance and Eucharist, the last of which is known as Viaticum (Latin: provision for the journey ) when administered to the dying. The normal order of administration of the rites is: first Penance (if the dying person is physically unable to confess, absolution is given conditionally on the existence of contrition), then Anointing, then Viaticum. Of the Last Rites, only a priest or bishop can administer the Sacraments of Penance and Anointing of the Sick. In the absence of a priest these sacraments cannot be administered, but a lay person may give a dying person Holy Communion, which in this case is Viaticum, the Last Sacrament of the Christian . Each room functions as a chapter of a pilgrimage. When one travels through various countries and time periods, one inevitably ends up in a gallery built in the imitation of a chapel, and subsequently the Gothic room. In this paper, I will examine the Gothic room s theme in relation to the placement of its objects. I will also evaluate the room s strengths and challenges in serving the public, and how the conventions employed in this room contribute to the general accessibility of the museum. Since, in her will, Mrs. Gardner rejected any alteration to the museum s walls, visitors can only rely on a limited amount of information cards when encountering an artwork, due to a lack of labels. It is for that reason that academics who visit the museum to do research might find the scarcity of information challenging. This process turns the museum visit into a treasure hunt of trying to locate a specific object listed on the sheet to learn more about it.
