Internal Medicine Internist Personal Statement
It was 2011 when the revolution burst out. I was studying for my pharmacology exam when I saw on
TV that people were getting injured and shot. There were a lot of field hospitals and volunteering
doctors that I knew. I wanted to go there and assist the injured, but I knew that my lack of medical
training would not allow me to do that. Since then I have been thinking of the best medical field to
help and be useful in the future. Internists are who people think of when they think of a doctor and
after having the opportunity to rotate through different specialties during my internship, I realized that
internal medicine exemplifies what I look upon to be, a compassionate, respected, and insightful
physician. When Internists go to work, they do not know what to ... Show more content on

It is the intellectual challenge every day and the opportunity to provide continuous care for the
patients that make internal medicine extremely appealing to me. I believe that with the knowledge that
internal medicine residency would provide me with; I could address the patient s emotional needs as
well as their medical needs. I have been inspired by my attending during my rotations. I rotated for
two months with him, during which I realized that in spite of the limited time he had, he always took
the time to explain and give support to his patients. He had to manage inpatients as well as ICU
patients simultaneously, but he always knew how to manage the patients and support their families in
addition to teaching us. All the patients respected him and knew they were in safe hands with him.
This was the doctor I would like to follow in footsteps, a doctor who is sensible, well informed and
skilled, thorough but efficient, and acting as a humane ally in a place where there is a lot of

Persuasive Essay On Confederate Monuments
The Civil War was a clouded era where judgement was ill evolved, however, it was a cultural turning
point in the history of our nation. Our nation hasn t always been the cultural mixing pot it is now, to
get to this point there were many things that had to be taken into consideration, and we need to keep
that in mind throughout history so we can be knowledgeable of how we got to where we are today. In
the past months, there has been a big spark in the debate of confederate monuments and if they should
be removed or be able to stay. I argue that confederate monuments should be preserved to be honest
about our nation s past.
What is a monument, and why are people still talking about a topic that took place over a century ago?
Well according to the Cambridge Academic Content Dictionary, monument means,
a statue, building, or other structure erected to commemorate a famous or notable person or event.
(Cambridge Academic Content Dictionary...) So, when we think about monuments sometimes we only
think of statues, but they are also buildings and they don t always honor just a person but sometimes
an event as a whole. Although some of the monuments may have been put up in vein, they all have a
story to tell about our history. Most confederate monuments were erected 50 years after the end of the
civil war, as veterans began to pass away. As the veterans of the war began to die, there was a renewed
push for reconciliation between North and South. (Davidson 2017) Also during the

Freud And A Midsummer Night s Dream
William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, takes the audience on a wild and confusing ride
through the human unconscious. From the play within the play, to fairies causing mayhem, what is to
be considered reality? The notion of falling asleep and dreaming is introduced over and over in the
play, and leaves the audience wondering, is any of this real? Throughout this paper, I will attempt to
explain the parallels between Shakespeare s work, A Midsummer Night s Dream, and the work of the
Austrian neurologist, Sigmund Freud, whose most popular work is that of dreams and dream
interpretations. The interpretation of dreams... is the royal road to a knowledge of the part the
unconscious plays in the mental life (Freud). Shakespeare is actually the inventor of what we refer to
as Freudian psychology, and we see this at work in A Midsummer Night s Dream, as well as his other
plays. Sigmund Freud was a neurologist who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humanity has searched for their significance and meanings, from the Old Testament dreams of
Pharaoh and of Jacob s dream of the ladder, to the ancient Egyptians and Greeks as being messages
from the gods. These vivid images that arise in the unconscious mind contain elements of our personal
identity, segments of our daily lives, as well as the bizarre. About three hundred years prior to Freud s
work on the subconscious, we see that Shakespeare, as evidenced in A Midsummer Night s Dream,
seemingly had a good grasp on the importance dreams played in our lives. The entire play seems like
one long dream, and this causes the audience to question the reality of the play. The sense of time also
lends to this notion, as it seems to be missing from the play. At times, just like dreams in real life, the
audience is dropped into the middle of the action without any direction as to what is happening, or the
events that led to where they

Working While Attending High School
I think that it is inconvenient for adolescent to work while attending high school. Although the really
is that many adolescents are obtaining part time employment while in high school. According
Santrock (2014) It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of adolescents are employed at some point during
high school (p.387). I do agree that there are some potentially positive influences. Some of the
advantageous that a working adolescent may experience are the development of autonomy, social
learning, and intergenerational harmony and contribute to the continuity between adolescence and
adulthood (Greenberger Steinberg, 1981. p.691). However, I believe that there are much more
disadvantages than advantageous. One of the disadvantages is that they may not have time for school,
family, and friends. An adolescent s first priority should be obtaining a higher education. When they
work they may place more emphasis on their employment instead of their education. Also, they may
become stressed out to fulfill their numerous commitments. They will have to effectively balance their

They are absent more and reported that they did not enjoy school as much. If an adolescent works long
hours it may affect them both physically and mentally (Larson, 2009, p.387). For instance, one reason
is they will have to balance their school obligations and work obligations. One research study found
that it was not just working, but the long hours that affected their grades (Greenberger Steinberg,
1986. p.691). This can cause a great deal of stress in their life. For instance, if an adolescent works at
McDonalds waiting on customers they may feel stress in ensuring that they meet the expected time
frames and to provide customers with a quick and accurate service. Exposure to job stress is related to
alcohol and marijuana use for both boys and girls (Greenberger Steinberg, 1986.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Never Cry Wolf
Mowat s rhetorical strategies In your own words how would you describe a wolf? Probably as a
vicious, bloodthirsty kill. Well in Farley Mowat s book he aims to change that view. The book Never
Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat was published in 1963. The book is the story of when he, Farley Mowat,
goes into the Northern Canadian Plains to study wolves. While he is there he discovers that wolves
aren t as savage and bloodthirsty as everyone seems to think. In his book he uses emotion, facts and
trust to persuade us that the wolves aren t bloodthirsty and savage as everyone seems to think.
Farley Mowat used emotion quite a lot in his book. The main way he used it was personification. An
example of this in the text is when he says I could not resist

The Effects Of Bilingualism On The Executive Function And...
Introduction By the emerge of globalization, being a bilingual is no longer a novelty experience any
more. It is quiet normal in nowadays that people encounter bilinguals in their daily bases. There is a
common sense that bilinguals should have certain abilities prior to monolinguals. Bialystok (2001)
suggested that the constant managing 2 competing languages enhance the executive function .
Moreover, her another study(Bialystok, 2004) indicated that bilingual participants also responded
more rapidly to conditions that placed greater demands on working memory. In all cases the bilingual
advantage was greater for older participants. These two findings imply that bilingualism have
beneficial effects on the executive function and working memory. Besides the excellent executive
function ability and the great capability of working memory, researchers also found out that bilinguals
have advantages on a particular working memory. The study of Luo et.al (2013) demonstrated that
bilinguals outperforms the monolingual participants in spatial working memory. It showed that
bilinguals are superior to monolinguals in some aspects, which can provide a exact picture how
bilingualism facilitates people so that it may motivate people to start acquiring a new language. For
my own curious, I want to know that if bilinguals advantage can persist across different experimental
designs. In addition, it should be interesting to test the correlation of different types of bilinguals and

Mobile computing is growing at an extremely rapid rate and you can see it everywhere you go. You
are probably doing it yourself multiple times a day and don t even realize it. Phones, laptops, tablets,
cloud storage and wireless networks that we use everyday are just a few elements of mobile
computing. A survey listed by Bowles states that 26% of smartphone users makes them feel like they
are being more productive than without them. (Bowles 2013) I can remember taking typing class in

everything I could do at my desk out and about. I was a deployment manager for the Air Force at the

able to do it without having to call the office and have someone else do it or try to make a mental note

The Age Determination Of Latent Prints
The amount of information that can be obtained through someone s hands is astounding. One can
determine the years of scarring from hard work, or the blisters from misuse. The most information can
be obtained at the very tips of fingers, and what they leave behind. Fingerprints supply great evidence
to help identify who was there, and possibly how many people were there. However, the problem
becomes that there are too many prints found at one scene. It is difficult to try and determine when
they were made based on physical appearance and common techniques. Nowadays, the age
determination of latent prints can be achieved with a new approach using the sweaty residue of latent
prints, and a small electrical charge. In 2011, a group from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In a laboratory setting, they set up multiple stations where they had placed two fingerprints from the
same people, at different times. The results of the experiment showed that after 14 days of being left
alone, the prints left behind on nonconductive surfaces showed significant electric decay. They were
then able to determine which print was placed earlier, and which later (Watson, Prance, Beardsmore
Rust, Prance, 2011). The scanner works on the residue left behind in the latent prints, which is mainly
the different forms of sweat. Sweat by itself is a combination of organic molecules, lipids, amino
acids, and inorganic free ions (Yamashita French, n.d.). These free ions act as an electrolyte solution,
and allow electrical currents to be passed through, and returned to the original source to complete the
current. By measuring where the current is completed, the scanner can construct a digital image of
what the print would look like. The scanner s released charge must be small enough to have a reaction
from the latent residue, but it cannot be too large as to have a reaction from the surface in question.
Although the scanner works in a laboratory setting, there are still many problems that need to be
addressed before it can be applied to the field. The first is that the testing surface needs to be
nonconductive. The main reason for a nonconductive surface is that the charge

The Role Of Fear In Markandaya s Nectar In A Sieve
In the story Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya, both hope and fear are present forces in the
story that affect the outcome of the situations they go through. Fear helps the family overcome famine,
monsoons, and death as time goes on. As situations get harder, the force of hope becomes no more.
Although hope is present in the story, fear is the more powerful force that keeps Rukmani and her
family alive throughout the story. Fear is a force that can make or break people. The fear could either
motivate you to higher heights or completely destroy you as a person. In this case fear helped
Rukmani and her family countless times. An example of this is when Rukmani and Nathan are talking
about the effects that the monsoons will have on them. It is a bad season , Nathan said somberly. The
rains have destroyed much of our work, there will be little eating done this year (40). Since the rain
destroyed most of the family s land, they have a fear of starvation and that they might not survive this
season. But, the fear that Nathan and the family had of death led to them taking action and to get back

constant companion of the peasant (78). Hope and fear are both present forces in their life, but
overtime as times got harder, fear had gotten a stronger hold on to their lives. This quote is saying that
in the family s life both fear and hope are intertwined in their lives and as more situations such as
monsoons, and famine occur fear takes over and hope is soon all, but

Albrecht Durer Self-Portrait Essay
Albrecht Durer SelfPortrait Artist and Humanist, Albrecht Durer is one of the most significant figures
in the history f European art outside Italy during the Renaissance (Gowing 195). Portraying the
questioning spirit of the Renaissance, Durer s conviction that he must examine and explore his own
situation through capturing the very essence of his role as artist and creator, is reflected in the Self
portrait in a Fur Collared Robe (Strieder 10).
With the portrait, Durer s highly self conscious approach to his status as an artist coveys his exalted
mission of art more clearly than in any other painting. He seems to be less concerned with himself as a

Symmetrically arranging his serious, handsome face and mass of shoulder length hair deliberately
invite comparison with the image of Christ. The idealized arrangement and strict symmetry of the face
is based on a construction made up of circle and a triangle, a formula used down to the Byzantine
period for images of the Redeemer. The frontal pose and symmetrical composition have recurred in
many images of Christ, particularly in the form of the vera icon, or true image (Strieder14).
No architectural setting appears within the plain, black background of the painting (Hutchison 67).
The darkened tone and limited but unified color scheme create a mood of sanctity (Hutchinson 68).
The contours of the face are molded by means of soft light and transparent shadows, almost in an

Positioning of dangerous product on the market and not recalling those dangers products are two of
the main examples of an unethical behavior in the field of product marketing. If such an unethical act
is conducted by a large and well known company which on top of everything produces cars, where
safety of the drivers and other people in the traffic is one of their main, if not the number one priority
then there is every reason for this case to leave a huge impact in the automobile world and consumers.
This case will be echoing for a long time and will be remembered for a long time. An example of a

There are eight categories regarding project failure and one of the biggest failure in the Ford Pinto
case is the quality failure. As I previously mentioned the car was developed and introduced to the
market only 25 months after they launched the project, the average time it takes is 43 months, Ford
Corporation decided to take a shortcut to save time, and did not test the rear end of the car. Even
though the engineers at Ford knew the problem with the gas tank, and that it cannot withstand a hit of
20mph they still released the car. Investing more time would allow them to come up with a solution or
find a different material that would prevent gas tanks from exploding, bursting in the flames, and
causing so many injuries. Quality is very underestimated these days, the main goal of big corporations
is to generate big amounts of revenues even if the product can be potentially lethal for the consumers.
The way to fix this problem is to implement stronger safety regulations and make company follow
them, those regulations should also be updated more frequently especially because there are new and
better innovations created practically every day nowadays. Another big project failure Ford
Corporation leaders made was to release the car besides the insufficient testing and being aware of the
flaws with the Pinto. The leaders of Ford consciously

Baroque Music
In researching musical eras that have greatly influenced music, there are two that have stood out. The
Baroque Era and Classical Era have generated artists that are well known. Both eras play an important
part of history with artists who have influenced artists of today. In this essay, there will be a discussion
on both types of music and differences of each. This discussion will also include a discussion on
artists of this era.
Baroque is a musical era that falls between two other important eras in music. These two eras of music
are the Renaissance Era and the Classical Era. This is roughly a period between the 1600s and 1750.
The era of Baroque music was one that showed spectacular progress of knowledge with scientific
discoveries, mathematical advances, and philosophical explorations (Thornburg, 2014). The music
from this era can still be recognized today. Music from the Baroque period is the earliest European
music which we still generally recognize, whether it is the theme from Masterpiece Theater, the
Hallelujah Chorus from Handel s Messiah, or any number of other pieces (Thornburg, 2014) . Most of
the Baroque music of that time was written on demand for specific occasions by those who thought of
themselves as craftsmen instead of artists. In listening to this style of music, there is a regular, ... Show

source and the height it was built above the flooding of the Nile. The mud brick buildings were
sensitive to water and damp conditions, so care had to be taken when considering the placement of a
house, town or city. When houses did crumble or fall apart, new houses were simply built upon the
ruins of the former house. This led to houses and towns being built on more elevated surfaces. These
hills are called tells. The permanent structures like temples and their surrounding enclosures are now
on a lower floor level this would be the original level as temples were not generally built or renewed
upon each other as the houses were. This method of building one house upon the other continued until
the building of the Aswan Dam in the late 1960 s, making excavations of the housing areas was
virtually impossible. This has left a scarcity of data for Egyptologists to study.
There are no more famous ancient sites within Egypt, or for that matter elsewhere in the world, than
the Great Pyramids at Giza. The pyramids of Giza have affected some tourists in beliefs and
personally/emotionally. They are, without question, the icon most associated with the Egypt. They
have been both the main destination for tourists, and a source of imaginative thought to the world for
over three thousand years. However, there are actually over 100 pyramids in Egypt, many of them are

Confucianism And Its Influence On Society
Confucianism can be regarded as a religion, a belief, a way of ruling and a basis for laying the ground
rules for the East Asian countries. Confucianism had gone through so many transformations and has
been affected by many religions and dynasties. Many dynasties have adapted the ways of
Confucianism, which state that there is a connection between humans and heaven. However, as time
progressed, religions such as Buddhism and Daoism also adapted the ways of Confucianism, but they
changed some of its ways, leading to new form of this learning. The Buddhists and the Daoists
changed and adapted their philosophies based on Confucian views towards the universe and the
society, as well as stripping their own belief from superstitions and myths. These lead to a new
learning of Confucianism, called the Neo Confucianism, referred to as Dao Xue (the Learning of the
Way) or Li Xue (the Learning of the Principle/Reason) (Yau 8).
Neo Confucianism was adopted into Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese schools. While it was
mentioned that it was mostly Buddhism that lead to new changes in Confucianism, other religions
played an important role in adapting and changing the method as well and were adopted by different
Asian countries. The Christian approach towards Neo Confucianism was mostly practiced around
Korea, China, And Vietnam; the Islamic adaptation was practiced in other parts of China as well as
Central Asia; and Neo Buddhism approach was practiced in parts of Japan and Chine. According

Cost Benefit Analysis
Cost benefit analysis is an economic evaluation whether to go ahead with the project depending on the
benefits attained from the invested amount on the project (cost). To perform this analysis, all the
inputs (cost) and outputs (benefits) should be measured in the same unit of measurement and at the
same time. Generally, the measurement unit is money (usually dollar). We need to measure these at the
same time because the dollar value changes time to time. While evaluating the cost benefit analysis we
need to take both the tangible and intangible costs in to consideration and classify the costs in one
time cost and recurring costs. So these onetime costs and recurring costs need to have relation with
time depending on the length of the project. Need to determine the fixed costs and variable costs in
both onetime cost and recurring cost. We need to have the relation between time and money as we
determine the costs, benefits and useful life of the project is determined on present day, to have a
successful cost benefit analysis. We need to maintain a record for all these costs.
The most commonly used Cost benefit analysis are:
1. Net Present Value (NPV): It uses cost of capital and discount rate to determine the present value of
the project.
2. Return of Investment (ROI): It is the ratio of net cash receipts of the project divided

Essay on The Benefits of Naps
What do people think of when they first hear the word nap? Everyday sayings such as snatching a nap,
being caught napping, snoozing, or stealing forty winks are all beneficial daily activities we need to
add to our busy life. If we do, we will be more awake and capable to reach our full potential as an
individual. People don t realize how important a nap can be. Although popular beliefs suggest that
naps are a waste of time, naps actually increase productivity by resting the brain. Nap Basics In order
to obtain the full benefits of the nap, there are certain rules that need to be followed. Following these
guidelines will ensure maximum effectiveness. One condition is that naps should be taken in the early

You will be able to accomplish more. (qtd. by Griffey 42) An afternoon nap helped him with his many
responsibilities. Leonardo da Vinci used naps so much that he didn t need to sleep at night. Every two
hours, he would take a fifteen minute nap. Many believe this contributed to his seemingly endless
supply of creativity (Griffey 10). Thomas Edison would take one to two naps per day, and once turned
a patron away because he was taking a nap (Griffey 73). Bill Clinton was known for taking naps
whenever he could (Griffey 52). These famous figures dispel the myth that taking naps means ones
lazy. They accomplished so much, yet knew their individual limitations. They gave full effort when
frequent occasions required, but they also refused to run too fast. We can learn from their examples,
and restore the nap to our everyday routine. The Need for Naps In today s busy world, fatigue in the
early afternoon is nearly normal. Many believe that this slump is caused by a heavy lunch. However,
in reality, this occurs because we were meant to have a mid afternoon nap (Jacobs). Those who take
twenty minutes to nap when this slump occurs receive special benefits because sleep during the day is
more restful than extra sleep in the morning (Scott). For everyone this can be a tough to do, especially
when you have something so beneficial. Society would do well to make room for naps. When you

Thank you for everyone for being both patient and attentive in this matter. Ladies and gentlemen,
there is an undoubtable difference between convicting someone for a crime they committed and
retribution. There is a difference between the innocence of a man and man made tales. And there is a
difference between what constitutes reasonable doubt and what amounts to just excuses by the
prosecution. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the prosecution, being methodical, is just trying to

Pros And Cons Of Prison Reform
Prison reform is the policy in which conditions in prisons are improved. Prisons have been a part of
our government since the Americas were first colonized. Conditions in the prisons were completely
different than they are now. For instance, our current prison system calls for regulations and check ups
on the facilities to make sure that they are habitable for prisoners. Many prisons are very costly to
keep up and running.Even though, there are some privately owned prisons but many are funded by the
U.S. s taxpaying citizens.Additionally, prisons make it hard to come back to society. Once you have
something on your record a lot of opportunities are thrown out the window.
In a TED talk presented by Michelle Alexander, she talks about how society is still segregated by the
Jim Crow laws even if it is not completely apparent. Specifically, Alexander talks about the issues
with our prison system and how it segregates our society even more. In addition to talking about the
segregation of our society she takes the time to talk about how convicted criminals have an extremely
difficult time transitioning back into society. She talks about the individual struggles that they go
through. Alexander states, The reality is that when you re released from prison, people who are
released from prison typically have little or no money at all. They need to find a place to sleep, but if
they try to get access to public housing, they find often that they re barred from public housing

Part four, T he Corner, of Truman Capote s novel I n Cold Blood, depicts the executions of Perry
Smith and Richard Hickock. The two were found guilty of murdering the entire Clutter family in cold
blood . In this part, Truman Capote goes into great detail to describe their six drawn out years on death

after the passage. This passage serves as closure to the reader, ending the life of one of the

problem still exists and there has been little improvement to show the measures are working. It could
be argued that repealing the don t ask don t tell policy has contributed significantly the sexual assault

The Historical And Theological Significance Of God s Grace...
American mythologist and writer Joseph Campbell can be quoted, Computers are like Old Testament
(gods), lots of rules and no mercy. Sadly enough, many people, even some Biblical scholars, hold to
this stereotype that the Old and New Testaments display different foundational characteristics of God:
law versus grace. As will be examined here, the stories of the OT are abundant in both God s grace
and His holiness, and the histories within these books are saturated with the theological themes of
covenant, kingship, grace, sacrifice, and prophetism. Each of the five subsections listed will first
answer the who, what, why, when, where, and how questions. After a thorough explanation of the
historical and theological significance of each theme, this exposition will address a crucial debate
concerning the theme, if such is applicable. We begin with the theme of covenant in this study of five
prominent OT themes. Covenant. The history and use of covenant is crucial to the development of the
OT plot. The idea of covenant within the Ancient Near East (ANE) was clearly pre Mosaic, probably
beginning within the Sumerian covenants in the 3rd millennium BC (Thompson ##). According to Old
Testament Theology: A Thematic Approach, a covenant can be generally defined as a solemn bond
established between two or more parties (usually on the basis of a promise or pledge) and involved a
firm commitment to the relationship established by the covenant and to its obligations (Routledge

The Selection And The 2005 Film Beowulf And Grendel
Society has come a long way since the Middle Ages culturally and intellectually and can be clearly
viewed throughout English literature. With this change comes a more abstract and evolved way of
thinking. With that said, there is a massive distinction between the concepts and characters of the
original text of the selection and the 2005 film Beowulf and Grendel. These differences include how
the creators of the selections from the two societies use certain aspects to attract the attention of the
audiences during their respected times in history and how the characters are portrayed in each works.
In the epic poem of Beowulf it is evident that the religion displayed throughout the text is Christianity
due to the number of biblical allusions presented throughout the text. For instance, Grendel was the
name of this grim demon...he had dwelt for a time in misery among the banished monsters, Cain s
clan, whom the creator had outlawed and condemned as outcasts. For the killing of Abel the Eternal
Lord had exacted a price: Cain got no good from committing that murder. (102 109) is an example of
a biblical allusion that demonstrates the distinction between good and evil and describes that the
character of Grendel is an evil creature. In addition to this, the poem explains that good and evil are
completely separate descriptions of people, or in this case creatures, in this world. You can not be both
good and evil. During this era, all evil things were to be destroyed. In the world

was the total population of people in the workforce. In Gatton the total population of people in the
work force was only 166 people whereas in Kingscliff the number of people in the work force was
2460 people. After I went over the information the clear choice was to invest in a franchise in
Kingscliff as it is a growing town with a high number of people in the work force. The choice to start
up a new franchise in Kingscliff was more profitable than starting one up in Gatton as the information
shows that you get more customers where people have more money. The last piece of criteria I used

Renaissance Time Capsule
As part of my introduction to humanities class, I was required to probe for a concealed time capsule
from both the Renaissance and the Baroque ages. Thereafter, I was required to identify at least two
examples of art, music, architecture, philosophy, and literature depicted during the periods. By doing
so, I expected to identify how these examples reflected world events and cultural blueprints of their
periods. The Renaissance refers to the cultural transformations witnessed in Europe between the
fourteen century and the sixteen century (Cheremeteff, 2000). The transformations originated in Italy
before spreading to the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another piece of art I would expect to unravel in the Renaissance time capsule is The Creation of
Man. Michelangelo created the art. The painting was done during the early 16th century (Cheremeteff,
2000). The painting depicts the creation of man by God as portrayed in the book of Genesis. The two
pieces of art reflect about the world events and cultural patterns of their time. As such, they had a
significant impact on the Christians of the time. To date, the two arts are considered the most imitated
religious paintings of all time.
With respect to the age of Baroque, I expect to unravel The Inspiration of Saint Mathew and Christ in
the House of Mary and Martha. Caravaggio produced The Inspiration of Saint Matthew in the early
17th century (Cheremeteff, 2000). Diego Velázquez produced the second art during the year 1618. The
two arts reflect a lot about the religious and cultural settings of the age of Baroque. For instance,
Velázquez s art reflects the classic Baroque Christian fusion of Martha and Mary Magdalene.
Music
Music refers to human activity characterized by prearranged and perceptible sounds. Although,
humans had practiced music for thousands of years it should be noted that during the two ages it took
a different direction (Friedell, 2008). In my quest to find classical music from the two time capsules, I
would expect to unravel musical sheets

Example Of Culture Jamming
This essay will unpack the ways in which hegemonic discourses are subverted to present
counterhegemonic discourses focusing on the Tokolos stencil on page two. It shall equally consider
the potential and limitations of such a practice in a South African context. Finally, this essay will argue
that culture jamming brings about liberal pluralism and leads to a critical pedagogy by encouraging
people to do reverse engineering and question the dominant ideologies set in place.
Culture jamming is a form of media activism where hegemonic discourses are disputed though the
subversion of media texts to create a new counterhegemonic meaning. According to Klein, it is the
practice of parodying advertisements and hijacking billboards in order to drastically alter their
messages (2001: 280). Another definition is, A form of media activism that subverts and reworks the
intended meaning of existing media texts or parodies major corporations, public figures, and their
media images (Stadler O Shaughnessy, 2005: 188).
Hegemony in this case means the success of the dominant classes in presenting their definition of
reality, their view of the world, in such a way that it is accepted by other classes as common sense .

Ottoman And Italian Charity And Charity
According to Skocpol and Somers, one of the major uses of comparative history is to make
observations about institutions and structures and how they develop in different nations. Now when
one thinks about points of comparison, they probably think about broad categories like religion, the
state, etc., these are all obvious categories for comparative history, a less obvious topic however, is
poor relief and charity. How to deal with the poor (in this case, orphans, those out of work, the sick,
etc.) is an almost universal problem that every state or polity in the early modern Mediterranean had to
address in some form or another. This makes poor relief and charity a prime candidate for comparison.
For example, take the Italian states and the Ottoman Empire. On the surface, you can find vast
differences between the two, Italian city states were Christian and were often individual cities that
were independent of each other; meanwhile the Ottoman Empire was a vast, Muslim state
compromising large amounts of territory. Despite these differences, one can find similarities in regards
to how charity and poor relief were handled.

company to lose money each time they have to train a new employee. This is a great situation to

Another may be training and development opportunities. The variables that we are looking for in this
study will in some way show how to increase employee retention. When dealing with employee
retention issues there may be more than one solution to fixing the issue. That is why it is important to
ask the right questions during an exit interview as well as in any other form of interview or survey.
Ethical Considerations
In the issue of poor employee retention research is definitely a good way to figure out what the issues
are and how to combat them. There are however, ethical matters that should be considered during the
research process. Making sure that employees confidentiality is kept during the process is very
important, also you want to make sure that race is not involved. It is also important to make sure that
the results do not interfere with the employees that are currently employed within the company. It is
important to keep the objectives clear, and to make sure that proper consent is given when necessary.
Making sure that ethical considerations are taken into account are very important during any business
research including finding out why there is poor employee retention.
Conclusion
In this paper Team C has discussed the issue of poor employee retention concluding in a high
employee turnover rate. This is an issue that can be common among some companies and that is a

Why Is The Bayeux Tapestry Reliable
Part A The Bayeux Tapestry as a historical source The Bayeux Tapestry is a primary source. The
Bayeux Tapestry is a primary source of history because it was created just after the Battle of Hasting,
which took place on the 14th of October 1066 A.D/C.E. The Bayeux Tapestry was created in the 11th
Century. The person who commissioned the Bayeux Tapestry was Bishop Odo. Bishop Odo was the
half brother of Duke William, who was the leader of the Normans. He created the Bayeux Tapestry in
honour of the victory for the Normans in the Battle of Hastings. The perspective that is not given in
the Bayeux Tapestry is the English perspective. The English perspective is not in the Bayeux Tapestry
because it wasn t the English who created the Bayeux Tapestry and it was in the Norman perspective.

The Pros And Cons Of Arbitrage
One of the fundamental mainstays of financial economics is arbitrage. An arbitrage is the
simultaneous purchase and sale of an asset to profit from a difference in the price. This is a form of
trade that produces profits through the exploitation of the price differences of identical financial
instruments on different markets in different forms (Reverre, 2011). Arbitrage is often referred to as
risk free due to the fact that speculations are done on market movements by participants. As an
alternative, betting is being done on the mispricing of a share/asset that has occurred between two
related markets (Aarheim and Johnsen, 2013). Arbitrage therefore exists as a result of market
inefficiencies. Randall (2006) also referred to Arbitrage as the ... Show more content on

With regards to the law of one price which depicted some relations with arbitrage, assets having the
same flow of cash should trade for the same price. In the case of different prices, there is the
possibility to earn almost riskless profit. Financial derivatives prices are grounded on a certain model,
and in the case of mismatch, there is the possibility to carry out the cash and carry arbitrage in trading
both the derivative and underlying asset in such a specific way that results to almost a riskless profit.
Záškodný (2007) noted that, in the event of mispriced assets, it does not essentially imply that there is
also a riskless profit to be earned. This he attributed this to the fact that prices of financial instruments
often move in so called no arbitrage zones. The said zones are price intervals in which the prices are
not necessarily in agreement with the model, but then again because of operation costs and other
obstacles, it is not possible to arbitrage the prices to counterpart the theoretical value. The more
advanced the operation costs, the larger is the no arbitrage zone. Therefore the strategies of arbitrage
can only be executed by the movement of price away from the zone, either by the means of upper
bound or lower bound. It is also note that as a result of globalization and competition, arbitrage is only
profitable when dealing with huge volumes of business transactions. Nevertheless this is said to result
in increases in risk, because at a single point of failure a lot of losses would occur. Demonstratively, if
Company ABC s stock trades at $4.00 per share on the Ghana stock exchange market (GSE) and the
same of $4.05 on the Nigeria stock exchange market (NSE), an arbitrageur would purchase the stock
for $4 on the Ghana stock exchange and sell it at the value of $5.05 on the Nigeria stock exchange
market which yields him/her the

When Moravians in Germany sent three missionaries to Suriname in 1765 to witness to the
Saramakas, two groups with unique and fundamentally different cultural, social, and religious beliefs

disappointed by the poor reception of the gospel; meanwhile, the Saramakas were plagued with inter

whom they maintained an unsteady peace. These circumstances, as well as the many ways in which

Moravians, though they came to witness to the blacks as fellow children of God, couldn t bridge the
cultural gap; one brother wrote, It is indescribable how uncomfortable it is for me...to lodge with the
negroes in their huts...they live in a very disagreeable manner, which stems from their heathenish
customs. The restrictions Moravians placed on the behavior of converts made them trade some of their
Saramaka customs for white customs, and discouraged many Saramaka from converting. As one
woman said, I still love the spectacles of the negroes. I love to dance and I cannot hear any story about
the Great God just now because if I were to convert, I wouldn t be able to dance any more (238).
The converts, who were initially mainly children, faced many temptations to backslide (98, 320). They
were often blamed for problems in the community. For instance, after Alabi and Skipio killed the
cayman, Alabi s sister became sick and the Saramakas divined that Alabi s conversion had angered his
dead father, Abini, who Alabi now needed to placate through ritual means. The Moravian s restrictions
on matters of personal style disappointed the children who asked permission to make a shriek of
mourning for Simeon s death, but were reprimanded for suggesting such uncivilized behavior (227).

Women and Maturity in Eschenbach s Parzival
Through the course of Wolfram von Eschenbach s epic romance Parzival, it becomes abundantly clear
that the main characters, Parzival and Gawan, must attain some level of maturity or growth before
they will be able to persevere in their personal quests. While their paths to maturity involve a great
deal of combat and contests of knightly skill, it is their encounters with noble women that truly
redefine their characters.
Parzival is undeniably a romance. It contains all the typical components of an early romance:
extravagant characters, remote and exotic places, highly exciting and heroic events, passionate love,
and mysterious or supernatural experiences. As a romance alone, indeed, ... Show more content on

Herzeloyde, having lost her beloved husband Gahmuret to knightly combat, shelters Parzival in an
attempt to prevent him from entering knighthood. This sheltering forms the core of Parzival s initial
innocence. His mother s attempts to hide knighthood from him results in his also knowing little to
nothing about society, proper social behavior, and the class structure he must conform to. Thus, while
Parzival s decision to enter the knighthood after meeting with several knights would seem to be the
key event in establishing the initial plot of the tale, his mother s sheltering is truly the underlying
theme for the first step in Parzival s growth.
The next woman Parzival encounters in his quest is the Lady Jechute. Whereas Herzeloyde provided
the forum for establishing Parzival s innocence, Jechute is clearly the forum for displaying his
innocence. Prior and during their encounter Parzival s garb and speech are largely representative of his
innocence: his poor clothing and plain language presents him as little more than an unlearned peasant.
When Parzival encounters Jechute alone in her tent, he misinterprets advice given to him by his
mother and rather violently wrestles with her before ultimately stealing her ring. In the course of their
encounter, albeit brief, we see that Parzival s innocence, in part, manifests itself in a literal

The Rescuer Schindler Research Paper
Schindler The Rescuer Schindler was a rescuer of the jews because he was not a fan of how they were
treated. When asked why he saved them he replied by saying I knew the people who worked for me.
When you know people, you have to behave towards them like human beings. Unlike the nazis and
Hitler, Oscar Schindler saw jews as normal human beings and did not use them and make them do
manual labor just to survive and not be killed. He did make them work just so the nazis did not come
in and just kill all of them or take them back to a concentration camp and abuse them. The condition
Oscar Schindler had was when he had the jews working for him that he didn t want them to make any
of the bullets functional and allow them to be fired and kill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Heroes evolve, they are not born. What he meant by this is that Schindler s plan at first was not to save
the jews, but he ended up saving between approximately eleven hundred and twelve hundred before
he ran because the nazis were going to come after him for saving them. At first Schindler went to the
Krakow concentration camp to make money, but since the jews were involved in that he just wanted
them for manual labor. But as time went on he started changing his ways and told them they would be
safe and fed them and even told them to make faulty bullets just so he could not be held responsible
for the death of other jews using his product.
With the question being why Schindler saved the jews he developed his ways and that s why he did it.
At first it was for money then it changed into a safe haven for the jews and he was saving them just
because they were people. With Schindler changing his ways and trying to save the jews and saving
the eleven hundred to twelve hundred jews Oscar Schindler was the only man as a christian that was
able to be buried in a jewish graveyard for what he did for them. They appreciated him and look up to
him still today and put stones on his grave to honor what he did and what he risked to save

What Is The Christian Faith In Elizabeth Johnson s Why...
The Christian faith is a well documented and common religion of the Western civilization. However,
because Christianity is so fluid and complex, it easier for Christians to be incorrectly interpreting
aspects of the bible. In the book Why Christian? by Douglas John Hall, and She Who Is by Elizabeth
Johnson, both examine some of the critical misunderstandings proving problematic within the
Christian faith, but in different lenses . The book Why Christian? addresses the Christian youth who
are in doubt of their faith because of inconsistencies engraved in rules set by the higher officials of the
Christian community. While She Who Is examines the Christian perspective from the
underrepresented woman s perspective. Both challenge the traditional Christian view, sparking
controversy and conversation, but expanding on the normal beliefs that the majority of Christian settle
with. Both their perspectives represent misinterpreted forms that can be organized and interpreted
through the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. In the context of scripture, Johnson states that the Bible is
hegemonically masculine. Johnson emphasizes the majority of Christian Bible names and images used
for God are masculine and patriarchal. For example, the bible mentions God as the Father , as Lord ,
the King . These names are gender specific and can affect the viewers ... Show more content on

Hall s uses a specific case of his personal account as a teen directly crying foul on minsterpertation of
the Bible for his audience. He mentions how as a confused teen, thinking Christianity was a shallow
business. He mentions his transition into adulthood and clarifying for answers between right and

The Civil War And The Reconstruction Period Essay
Introduction: American Industrialization emerged from the ruins of the Civil War and the ... of the
Reconstruction Period. Spurred by the new manufacturing technologies brought over from Great
Britain, and the rest of Europe, factories and mills began emerging across the American landscape,
slowly transforming the United States from an agrarian society to one increasingly industrialized and
urbanized. From 1860 1900, the nation of rural towns, local crafts, family farms, and regional
business, became dominated by sprawling cities, enormous commercial farms and powerful
corporations. By the turn of the twentieth century, the United States of America, had become a major
power base, with the birth of factories and mills, the burgeoning of cities, the continued westward
expansion, and the creation of the transcontinental railroad. However, just as America was welcomed
into her glory, the country was riddled with the evils of poverty, mass consumerism, labour disruption,
and increasing political, cultural, and environmental conflicts. Prior to 1860, America was a
geographically isolated society, however with the advent of the transcontinental railroad, America
became interconnected. In 1861, Congress authorized the joining of the Central Pacific and Union
Pacific railways. The Irish immigrants, and Southern African Americans of the Union Pacific railroad,
and the Chinese immigrants of the Union Pacific worked tirelessly for eight years, until on May, 10,
1869, the two

Iago Speech In Othello
Iago Speech Liam Gist
Is it such a crime to be an honest and good man? Imagine if you believed the wife of your closest
friend was cheating on him? Would you just let him go about his life whilst his wife was in bed with
another man? Well I ll tell you now, if that s what you would do, you re no friend. You might as well
be the man she was cheating with. What if your friend was going to commit suicide would you not do
everything you could to stop him? How about if your friend lost his job and you knew how he could
get it back, would you not help him? I m brought before the senate today, charged with doing nothing
but retaining as my title as Honest Iago and staying loyal to my comrades. So I ask you, do you really
believe I should be punished for being an honest man who simply cares for his friends when they are
in need?
Whilst in Venice, I learned that my dear friend Roderigo had fallen for Desdemona. When he
discovered she had married our noble General, Othello, he was filled with grief and was clearly
distraught after Desdemona confirmed she had married Othello. After the noble men had finished their
the meeting over the war in cypress, Rodrigo approached me. I could sense something wasn t right,
the tone of his voice, the expression upon his face, it was terrifying! Under pressure, I kept my
thoughts together and remained calm. Roderigo asked me what he should do. Confused, I told him to
go home and rest, for the trip to Cypress would be long and tiring. However in an emotional outburst,
he told me that he was going to go drown himself (1:3:301), I was taken by surprise, I acted quickly,
attempting to dispel any thought in his mind about this ridiculous idea. After a long period of
discussion, I persuaded him that he was being irrational and should go home and prepare for the trip to
Cypress instead. I had also replaced the idea of him drowning himself with the hope of winning
Desdemona s heart by putting money (1:3:330) towards his endeavours. If I were such an evil person
as these charges suggest I am, why would I support him in his time of need. What else would I get out
of this other than knowing I saved my dear friends life.
The trip to Cypress was terrifying, There was a massive

Compare The Rate Of Decomposition Of Hydrogen Peroxide Lab...
Background
The decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide can be expressed in this chemical equation:
2H2O2 (l) 2H2O (l) + O2 (g). This process is commonly found in organism as it is a byproduct of
metabolism. An accumulation of hydrogen peroxide is dangerous so as a result the body system
developed a way to speed up this decomposition. Commonly called a catalyst, which speeds up the
reaction. Catalysts may range from enzyme to inorganic catalysts. In this experiment this employ a
heterogeneous catalysis, in which the reactants are in different phase from each other. It is also
important to note that the catalyst is not consumed in the reaction even though they speed up the
reaction.

Economies Of World Powers Essay
Economies of World Powers
Before WWI The End of WWII A country without a strong economy will lack to make an impact on
the world stage for the foreseeable future. As a country, your power is as strong as the amount of
money you can generate, and share with the rest of the world. Think of the global economy as a group
of friends; Sam, Ben, and Günter, who are all wealthy in their own way. Let s say Günter and Ben
have resources that Sam wants, Sam will pay for it, which adds to Günter and Bens wealth. Now
having money, Günter and Sam buy resources that Sam has. All three then take the resources they
acquired, and the wealth they gained to develop new technologies and systems that each can use

This is where the problem starts. Throughout its history the U.S. has gone through crisis after crisis
from poor management, and the selective trust that the stock market offers. The market was
responsible for a financial panic in 1907 in which, The Knickerbocker Trust was unable to save itself
from failure, and the public started to fear that the banking and trust industries were experiencing
liquidity issues and the runs on banks began (US History for Kids 5). Once these liquidity issues
started it was in some people s minds that Teddy Roosevelt would break apart these powerful trusts.
For this reason, investors stopped funding the banks and took their money out of the banks. In turn
causing a trickle down effect that lead many non investing people to do the same. The Panic of 1907
lasted a little less than a month, but was enough to give U.S. citizens a scare. A few years later in 1913
the U.S. announced, the creation of the Fed and income tax (Domitrovic 1). The Panic made people
behave more cautiously with their money, which is a problem if people save too much, these taxes
made this cautious spending a problem. The federal and income taxes caused people to hoard their
money more than they had before these taxes were announced. Growth of the U.S. economy slowed
greatly

  • 2. Internal Medicine Internist Personal Statement It was 2011 when the revolution burst out. I was studying for my pharmacology exam when I saw on TV that people were getting injured and shot. There were a lot of field hospitals and volunteering doctors that I knew. I wanted to go there and assist the injured, but I knew that my lack of medical training would not allow me to do that. Since then I have been thinking of the best medical field to help and be useful in the future. Internists are who people think of when they think of a doctor and after having the opportunity to rotate through different specialties during my internship, I realized that internal medicine exemplifies what I look upon to be, a compassionate, respected, and insightful physician. I rotated for two months with him, during which I realized that in spite of the limited time he had, he always took the time to explain and give support to his patients. He had to manage inpatients as well as ICU patients simultaneously, but he always knew how to manage the patients and support their families in addition to teaching us. All the patients respected him and knew they were in safe hands with him. • 3. Persuasive Essay On Confederate Monuments The Civil War was a clouded era where judgement was ill evolved, however, it was a cultural turning point in the history of our nation. Our nation hasn t always been the cultural mixing pot it is now, to get to this point there were many things that had to be taken into consideration, and we need to keep that in mind throughout history so we can be knowledgeable of how we got to where we are today. In the past months, there has been a big spark in the debate of confederate monuments and if they should be removed or be able to stay. I argue that confederate monuments should be preserved to be honest about our nation s past. What is a monument, and why are people still talking about a topic that took place over a century ago? Well according to the Cambridge Academic Content Dictionary, monument means, a statue, building, or other structure erected to commemorate a famous or notable person or event. (Cambridge Academic Content Dictionary...) So, when we think about monuments sometimes we only think of statues, but they are also buildings and they don t always honor just a person but sometimes an event as a whole. Although some of the monuments may have been put up in vein, they all have a story to tell about our history. Most confederate monuments were erected 50 years after the end of the civil war, as veterans began to pass away. As the veterans of the war began to die, there was a renewed push for reconciliation between North and South. (Davidson 2017) Also during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Freud And A Midsummer Night s Dream William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, takes the audience on a wild and confusing ride through the human unconscious. From the play within the play, to fairies causing mayhem, what is to be considered reality? The notion of falling asleep and dreaming is introduced over and over in the play, and leaves the audience wondering, is any of this real? Throughout this paper, I will attempt to explain the parallels between Shakespeare s work, A Midsummer Night s Dream, and the work of the Austrian neurologist, Sigmund Freud, whose most popular work is that of dreams and dream interpretations. The interpretation of dreams... is the royal road to a knowledge of the part the unconscious plays in the mental life (Freud). Shakespeare is actually the inventor of what we refer to as Freudian psychology, and we see this at work in A Midsummer Night s Dream, as well as his other plays. Sigmund Freud was a neurologist who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humanity has searched for their significance and meanings, from the Old Testament dreams of Pharaoh and of Jacob s dream of the ladder, to the ancient Egyptians and Greeks as being messages from the gods. These vivid images that arise in the unconscious mind contain elements of our personal identity, segments of our daily lives, as well as the bizarre. About three hundred years prior to Freud s work on the subconscious, we see that Shakespeare, as evidenced in A Midsummer Night s Dream, seemingly had a good grasp on the importance dreams played in our lives. The entire play seems like one long dream, and this causes the audience to question the reality of the play. The sense of time also lends to this notion, as it seems to be missing from the play. At times, just like dreams in real life, the audience is dropped into the middle of the action without any direction as to what is happening, or the events that led to where they ... Although the really is that many adolescents are obtaining part time employment while in high school. According Santrock (2014) It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of adolescents are employed at some point during high school (p.387). I do agree that there are some potentially positive influences. Some of the advantageous that a working adolescent may experience are the development of autonomy, social learning, and intergenerational harmony and contribute to the continuity between adolescence and adulthood (Greenberger Steinberg, 1981. p.691). However, I believe that there are much more disadvantages than advantageous. One of the disadvantages is that they may not have time for school, family, and friends. An adolescent s first priority should be obtaining a higher education. When they work they may place more emphasis on their employment instead of their education. One research study found that it was not just working, but the long hours that affected their grades (Greenberger Steinberg, 1986. p.691). This can cause a great deal of stress in their life. It is quiet normal in nowadays that people encounter bilinguals in their daily bases. There is a common sense that bilinguals should have certain abilities prior to monolinguals. Bialystok (2001) suggested that the constant managing 2 competing languages enhance the executive function . Moreover, her another study(Bialystok, 2004) indicated that bilingual participants also responded more rapidly to conditions that placed greater demands on working memory. In all cases the bilingual advantage was greater for older participants. These two findings imply that bilingualism have beneficial effects on the executive function and working memory. Besides the excellent executive function ability and the great capability of working memory, researchers also found out that bilinguals have advantages on a particular working memory. The study of Luo et.al (2013) demonstrated that bilinguals outperforms the monolingual participants in spatial working memory. It showed that bilinguals are superior to monolinguals in some aspects, which can provide a exact picture how bilingualism facilitates people so that it may motivate people to start acquiring a new language. For my own curious, I want to know that if bilinguals advantage can persist across different experimental designs. • 13. The Age Determination Of Latent Prints The amount of information that can be obtained through someone s hands is astounding. One can determine the years of scarring from hard work, or the blisters from misuse. The most information can be obtained at the very tips of fingers, and what they leave behind. Fingerprints supply great evidence to help identify who was there, and possibly how many people were there. However, the problem becomes that there are too many prints found at one scene. It is difficult to try and determine when they were made based on physical appearance and common techniques. Nowadays, the age determination of latent prints can be achieved with a new approach using the sweaty residue of latent prints, and a small electrical charge. In 2011, a group from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a laboratory setting, they set up multiple stations where they had placed two fingerprints from the same people, at different times. The results of the experiment showed that after 14 days of being left alone, the prints left behind on nonconductive surfaces showed significant electric decay. They were then able to determine which print was placed earlier, and which later (Watson, Prance, Beardsmore Rust, Prance, 2011). The scanner works on the residue left behind in the latent prints, which is mainly the different forms of sweat. Sweat by itself is a combination of organic molecules, lipids, amino acids, and inorganic free ions (Yamashita French, n.d.). These free ions act as an electrolyte solution, and allow electrical currents to be passed through, and returned to the original source to complete the current. By measuring where the current is completed, the scanner can construct a digital image of what the print would look like. The scanner s released charge must be small enough to have a reaction from the latent residue, but it cannot be too large as to have a reaction from the surface in question. Although the scanner works in a laboratory setting, there are still many problems that need to be addressed before it can be applied to the field. The first is that the testing surface needs to be nonconductive. The main reason for a nonconductive surface is that the charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Portraying the questioning spirit of the Renaissance, Durer s conviction that he must examine and explore his own situation through capturing the very essence of his role as artist and creator, is reflected in the Self portrait in a Fur Collared Robe (Strieder 10). The idealized arrangement and strict symmetry of the face is based on a construction made up of circle and a triangle, a formula used down to the Byzantine period for images of the Redeemer. The frontal pose and symmetrical composition have recurred in many images of Christ, particularly in the form of the vera icon, or true image (Strieder14). No architectural setting appears within the plain, black background of the painting (Hutchison 67). The darkened tone and limited but unified color scheme create a mood of sanctity (Hutchinson 68). Even though the engineers at Ford knew the problem with the gas tank, and that it cannot withstand a hit of 20mph they still released the car. • 21. Water s Influence on Settements in Egypt The settlement of a town had to take two main considerations into mind, the accessibility to a water source and the height it was built above the flooding of the Nile. The mud brick buildings were sensitive to water and damp conditions, so care had to be taken when considering the placement of a house, town or city. When houses did crumble or fall apart, new houses were simply built upon the ruins of the former house. This led to houses and towns being built on more elevated surfaces. These hills are called tells. The permanent structures like temples and their surrounding enclosures are now on a lower floor level this would be the original level as temples were not generally built or renewed upon each other as the houses were. This method of building one house upon the other continued until the building of the Aswan Dam in the late 1960 s, making excavations of the housing areas was virtually impossible. This has left a scarcity of data for Egyptologists to study. There are no more famous ancient sites within Egypt, or for that matter elsewhere in the world, than the Great Pyramids at Giza. • 22. Confucianism And Its Influence On Society Confucianism can be regarded as a religion, a belief, a way of ruling and a basis for laying the ground rules for the East Asian countries. Confucianism had gone through so many transformations and has been affected by many religions and dynasties. Many dynasties have adapted the ways of Confucianism, which state that there is a connection between humans and heaven. However, as time progressed, religions such as Buddhism and Daoism also adapted the ways of Confucianism, but they changed some of its ways, leading to new form of this learning. The Buddhists and the Daoists changed and adapted their philosophies based on Confucian views towards the universe and the society, as well as stripping their own belief from superstitions and myths. These lead to a new learning of Confucianism, called the Neo Confucianism, referred to as Dao Xue (the Learning of the Way) or Li Xue (the Learning of the Principle/Reason) (Yau 8). Neo Confucianism was adopted into Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese schools. While it was mentioned that it was mostly Buddhism that lead to new changes in Confucianism, other religions played an important role in adapting and changing the method as well and were adopted by different Asian countries. The Christian approach towards Neo Confucianism was mostly practiced around Korea, China, And Vietnam; the Islamic adaptation was practiced in other parts of China as well as Central Asia; and Neo Buddhism approach was practiced in parts of Japan and Chine. • 23. Cost Benefits Of Cost Benefit Analysis Cost Benefit Analysis Raviteja Turaga Dr. Hammad Elbedour Analysis, Modelling and Design Date: 06/03/2016. Cost Benefit Analysis Cost benefit analysis is an economic evaluation whether to go ahead with the project depending on the benefits attained from the invested amount on the project (cost). To perform this analysis, all the inputs (cost) and outputs (benefits) should be measured in the same unit of measurement and at the same time. Generally, the measurement unit is money (usually dollar). We need to measure these at the same time because the dollar value changes time to time. While evaluating the cost benefit analysis we need to take both the tangible and intangible costs in to consideration and classify the costs in one time cost and recurring costs. So these onetime costs and recurring costs need to have relation with time depending on the length of the project. Need to determine the fixed costs and variable costs in both onetime cost and recurring cost. We need to have the relation between time and money as we determine the costs, benefits and useful life of the project is determined on present day, to have a successful cost benefit analysis. We need to maintain a record for all these costs. The most commonly used Cost benefit analysis are: 1. Net Present Value (NPV): It uses cost of capital and discount rate to determine the present value of the project. 2. Return of Investment (ROI): It is the ratio of net cash receipts of the project divided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyday sayings such as snatching a nap, being caught napping, snoozing, or stealing forty winks are all beneficial daily activities we need to add to our busy life. If we do, we will be more awake and capable to reach our full potential as an individual. People don t realize how important a nap can be. Although popular beliefs suggest that naps are a waste of time, naps actually increase productivity by resting the brain. Thomas Edison would take one to two naps per day, and once turned a patron away because he was taking a nap (Griffey 73). Bill Clinton was known for taking naps whenever he could (Griffey 52). These famous figures dispel the myth that taking naps means ones lazy. They accomplished so much, yet knew their individual limitations. They gave full effort when frequent occasions required, but they also refused to run too fast. We can learn from their examples, and restore the nap to our everyday routine. The Need for Naps In today s busy world, fatigue in the early afternoon is nearly normal. Many believe that this slump is caused by a heavy lunch. However, in reality, this occurs because we were meant to have a mid afternoon nap (Jacobs). Those who take twenty minutes to nap when this slump occurs receive special benefits because sleep during the day is more restful than extra sleep in the morning (Scott). • 26. Pros And Cons Of Prison Reform Prison reform is the policy in which conditions in prisons are improved. Prisons have been a part of our government since the Americas were first colonized. Conditions in the prisons were completely different than they are now. For instance, our current prison system calls for regulations and check ups on the facilities to make sure that they are habitable for prisoners. Many prisons are very costly to keep up and running.Even though, there are some privately owned prisons but many are funded by the U.S. s taxpaying citizens.Additionally, prisons make it hard to come back to society. In a TED talk presented by Michelle Alexander, she talks about how society is still segregated by the Jim Crow laws even if it is not completely apparent. Specifically, Alexander talks about the issues with our prison system and how it segregates our society even more. In addition to talking about the segregation of our society she takes the time to talk about how convicted criminals have an extremely difficult time transitioning back into society. She talks about the individual struggles that they go through. • 29. The Historical And Theological Significance Of God s Grace... American mythologist and writer Joseph Campbell can be quoted, Computers are like Old Testament (gods), lots of rules and no mercy. Sadly enough, many people, even some Biblical scholars, hold to this stereotype that the Old and New Testaments display different foundational characteristics of God: law versus grace. As will be examined here, the stories of the OT are abundant in both God s grace and His holiness, and the histories within these books are saturated with the theological themes of covenant, kingship, grace, sacrifice, and prophetism. Each of the five subsections listed will first answer the who, what, why, when, where, and how questions. After a thorough explanation of the historical and theological significance of each theme, this exposition will address a crucial debate concerning the theme, if such is applicable. We begin with the theme of covenant in this study of five prominent OT themes. Covenant. The history and use of covenant is crucial to the development of the OT plot. The idea of covenant within the Ancient Near East (ANE) was clearly pre Mosaic, probably beginning within the Sumerian covenants in the 3rd millennium BC (Thompson ##). According to Old Testament Theology: A Thematic Approach, a covenant can be generally defined as a solemn bond established between two or more parties (usually on the basis of a promise or pledge) and involved a firm commitment to the relationship established by the covenant and to its obligations (Routledge ... • 30. The Selection And The 2005 Film Beowulf And Grendel Society has come a long way since the Middle Ages culturally and intellectually and can be clearly viewed throughout English literature. With this change comes a more abstract and evolved way of thinking. With that said, there is a massive distinction between the concepts and characters of the original text of the selection and the 2005 film Beowulf and Grendel. These differences include how the creators of the selections from the two societies use certain aspects to attract the attention of the audiences during their respected times in history and how the characters are portrayed in each works. In the epic poem of Beowulf it is evident that the religion displayed throughout the text is Christianity due to the number of biblical allusions presented throughout the text. For instance, Grendel was the name of this grim demon...he had dwelt for a time in misery among the banished monsters, Cain s clan, whom the creator had outlawed and condemned as outcasts. For the killing of Abel the Eternal Lord had exacted a price: Cain got no good from committing that murder. (102 109) is an example of a biblical allusion that demonstrates the distinction between good and evil and describes that the character of Grendel is an evil creature. In addition to this, the poem explains that good and evil are completely separate descriptions of people, or in this case creatures, in this world. You can not be both good and evil. The painting was done during the early 16th century (Cheremeteff, 2000). The painting depicts the creation of man by God as portrayed in the book of Genesis. The two pieces of art reflect about the world events and cultural patterns of their time. As such, they had a significant impact on the Christians of the time. To date, the two arts are considered the most imitated religious paintings of all time. With respect to the age of Baroque, I expect to unravel The Inspiration of Saint Mathew and Christ in the House of Mary and Martha. Caravaggio produced The Inspiration of Saint Matthew in the early 17th century (Cheremeteff, 2000). Diego Velázquez produced the second art during the year 1618. The two arts reflect a lot about the religious and cultural settings of the age of Baroque. For instance, Velázquez s art reflects the classic Baroque Christian fusion of Martha and Mary Magdalene. Music Music refers to human activity characterized by prearranged and perceptible sounds. It is sometimes really hard to believe that the laptops, tablets, smartphones and touchpads that we use today are descendants of the supercomputer that once used to occupy the whole room. Ottoman And Italian Charity And Charity According to Skocpol and Somers, one of the major uses of comparative history is to make observations about institutions and structures and how they develop in different nations. Now when one thinks about points of comparison, they probably think about broad categories like religion, the state, etc., these are all obvious categories for comparative history, a less obvious topic however, is poor relief and charity. How to deal with the poor (in this case, orphans, those out of work, the sick, etc.) is an almost universal problem that every state or polity in the early modern Mediterranean had to address in some form or another. This makes poor relief and charity a prime candidate for comparison. For example, take the Italian states and the Ottoman Empire. On the surface, you can find vast differences between the two, Italian city states were Christian and were often individual cities that were independent of each other; meanwhile the Ottoman Empire was a vast, Muslim state compromising large amounts of territory. Despite these differences, one can find similarities in regards to how charity and poor relief were handled. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Pros And Cons Of Arbitrage One of the fundamental mainstays of financial economics is arbitrage. An arbitrage is the simultaneous purchase and sale of an asset to profit from a difference in the price. This is a form of trade that produces profits through the exploitation of the price differences of identical financial instruments on different markets in different forms (Reverre, 2011). Arbitrage is often referred to as risk free due to the fact that speculations are done on market movements by participants. As an alternative, betting is being done on the mispricing of a share/asset that has occurred between two related markets (Aarheim and Johnsen, 2013). Arbitrage therefore exists as a result of market inefficiencies. Randall (2006) also referred to Arbitrage as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With regards to the law of one price which depicted some relations with arbitrage, assets having the same flow of cash should trade for the same price. In the case of different prices, there is the possibility to earn almost riskless profit. Financial derivatives prices are grounded on a certain model, and in the case of mismatch, there is the possibility to carry out the cash and carry arbitrage in trading both the derivative and underlying asset in such a specific way that results to almost a riskless profit. Záškodný (2007) noted that, in the event of mispriced assets, it does not essentially imply that there is also a riskless profit to be earned. This he attributed this to the fact that prices of financial instruments often move in so called no arbitrage zones. The said zones are price intervals in which the prices are not necessarily in agreement with the model, but then again because of operation costs and other obstacles, it is not possible to arbitrage the prices to counterpart the theoretical value. The more advanced the operation costs, the larger is the no arbitrage zone. Therefore the strategies of arbitrage can only be executed by the movement of price away from the zone, either by the means of upper bound or lower bound. It is also note that as a result of globalization and competition, arbitrage is only profitable when dealing with huge volumes of business transactions. Nevertheless this is said to result in increases in risk, because at a single point of failure a lot of losses would occur. Demonstratively, if Company ABC s stock trades at $4.00 per share on the Ghana stock exchange market (GSE) and the same of $4.05 on the Nigeria stock exchange market (NSE), an arbitrageur would purchase the stock for $4 on the Ghana stock exchange and sell it at the value of $5.05 on the Nigeria stock exchange market which yields him/her the ... Thus, while Parzival s decision to enter the knighthood after meeting with several knights would seem to be the key event in establishing the initial plot of the tale, his mother s sheltering is truly the underlying theme for the first step in Parzival s growth. The next woman Parzival encounters in his quest is the Lady Jechute. Whereas Herzeloyde provided the forum for establishing Parzival s innocence, Jechute is clearly the forum for displaying his innocence. Prior and during their encounter Parzival s garb and speech are largely representative of his innocence: his poor clothing and plain language presents him as little more than an unlearned peasant. • 43. The Rescuer Schindler Research Paper Schindler The Rescuer Schindler was a rescuer of the jews because he was not a fan of how they were treated. When asked why he saved them he replied by saying I knew the people who worked for me. When you know people, you have to behave towards them like human beings. Unlike the nazis and Hitler, Oscar Schindler saw jews as normal human beings and did not use them and make them do manual labor just to survive and not be killed. He did make them work just so the nazis did not come in and just kill all of them or take them back to a concentration camp and abuse them. The condition Oscar Schindler had was when he had the jews working for him that he didn t want them to make any of the bullets functional and allow them to be fired and kill ... What he meant by this is that Schindler s plan at first was not to save the jews, but he ended up saving between approximately eleven hundred and twelve hundred before he ran because the nazis were going to come after him for saving them. At first Schindler went to the Krakow concentration camp to make money, but since the jews were involved in that he just wanted them for manual labor. But as time went on he started changing his ways and told them they would be safe and fed them and even told them to make faulty bullets just so he could not be held responsible for the death of other jews using his product. With the question being why Schindler saved the jews he developed his ways and that s why he did it. At first it was for money then it changed into a safe haven for the jews and he was saving them just because they were people. With Schindler changing his ways and trying to save the jews and saving the eleven hundred to twelve hundred jews Oscar Schindler was the only man as a christian that was able to be buried in a jewish graveyard for what he did for them. They appreciated him and look up to him still today and put stones on his grave to honor what he did and what he risked to save ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. What Is The Christian Faith In Elizabeth Johnson s Why... The Christian faith is a well documented and common religion of the Western civilization. However, because Christianity is so fluid and complex, it easier for Christians to be incorrectly interpreting aspects of the bible. In the book Why Christian? by Douglas John Hall, and She Who Is by Elizabeth Johnson, both examine some of the critical misunderstandings proving problematic within the Christian faith, but in different lenses . The book Why Christian? addresses the Christian youth who are in doubt of their faith because of inconsistencies engraved in rules set by the higher officials of the Christian community. While She Who Is examines the Christian perspective from the underrepresented woman s perspective. Both challenge the traditional Christian view, sparking controversy and conversation, but expanding on the normal beliefs that the majority of Christian settle with. Both their perspectives represent misinterpreted forms that can be organized and interpreted through the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. In the context of scripture, Johnson states that the Bible is hegemonically masculine. Johnson emphasizes the majority of Christian Bible names and images used for God are masculine and patriarchal. Spurred by the new manufacturing technologies brought over from Great Britain, and the rest of Europe, factories and mills began emerging across the American landscape, slowly transforming the United States from an agrarian society to one increasingly industrialized and urbanized. From 1860 1900, the nation of rural towns, local crafts, family farms, and regional business, became dominated by sprawling cities, enormous commercial farms and powerful corporations. By the turn of the twentieth century, the United States of America, had become a major power base, with the birth of factories and mills, the burgeoning of cities, the continued westward expansion, and the creation of the transcontinental railroad. However, just as America was welcomed into her glory, the country was riddled with the evils of poverty, mass consumerism, labour disruption, and increasing political, cultural, and environmental conflicts. Prior to 1860, America was a geographically isolated society, however with the advent of the transcontinental railroad, America became interconnected. In 1861, Congress authorized the joining of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railways. • 46. Iago Speech In Othello Iago Speech Liam Gist Is it such a crime to be an honest and good man? Imagine if you believed the wife of your closest friend was cheating on him? Would you just let him go about his life whilst his wife was in bed with another man? Well I ll tell you now, if that s what you would do, you re no friend. You might as well be the man she was cheating with. What if your friend was going to commit suicide would you not do everything you could to stop him? Whilst in Venice, I learned that my dear friend Roderigo had fallen for Desdemona. When he discovered she had married our noble General, Othello, he was filled with grief and was clearly distraught after Desdemona confirmed she had married Othello. After the noble men had finished their the meeting over the war in cypress, Rodrigo approached me. I could sense something wasn t right, the tone of his voice, the expression upon his face, it was terrifying! Under pressure, I kept my thoughts together and remained calm. Roderigo asked me what he should do. Confused, I told him to go home and rest, for the trip to Cypress would be long and tiring. However in an emotional outburst, he told me that he was going to go drown himself (1:3:301), I was taken by surprise, I acted quickly, attempting to dispel any thought in his mind about this ridiculous idea. After a long period of discussion, I persuaded him that he was being irrational and should go home and prepare for the trip to Cypress instead. I had also replaced the idea of him drowning himself with the hope of winning Desdemona s heart by putting money (1:3:330) towards his endeavours. If I were such an evil person as these charges suggest I am, why would I support him in his time of need. What else would I get out of this other than knowing I saved my dear friends life. This process is commonly found in organism as it is a byproduct of metabolism. An accumulation of hydrogen peroxide is dangerous so as a result the body system developed a way to speed up this decomposition. Commonly called a catalyst, which speeds up the reaction. Catalysts may range from enzyme to inorganic catalysts. In this experiment this employ a heterogeneous catalysis, in which the reactants are in different phase from each other. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where the problem starts. Throughout its history the U.S. has gone through crisis after crisis from poor management, and the selective trust that the stock market offers. The market was responsible for a financial panic in 1907 in which, The Knickerbocker Trust was unable to save itself from failure, and the public started to fear that the banking and trust industries were experiencing liquidity issues and the runs on banks began (US History for Kids 5). Once these liquidity issues started it was in some people s minds that Teddy Roosevelt would break apart these powerful trusts. For this reason, investors stopped funding the banks and took their money out of the banks. In turn causing a trickle down effect that lead many non investing people to do the same. The Panic of 1907 lasted a little less than a month, but was enough to give U.S. citizens a scare. A few years later in 1913 the U.S. announced, the creation of the Fed and income tax (Domitrovic 1). The Panic made people behave more cautiously with their money, which is a problem if people save too much, these taxes made this cautious spending a problem. The federal and income taxes caused people to hoard their money more than they had before these taxes were announced. Growth of the U.S. economy slowed greatly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
