This document provides an overview of the heterocyclic compound pyrrole. Pyrrole is a five-membered heterocyclic compound containing one nitrogen atom. It plays an important role in living organisms as the structural feature of chlorophyll and heme contains four linked pyrrole rings. Pyrrole has weak acidic properties similar to acetylene. It can be synthesized through various methods including the reaction of acetylene and ammonia at high temperatures. Pyrrole undergoes characteristic reactions like oxidation, reduction, alkylation and acylation. It is involved in the synthesis of important drugs like Obatoclax which is used to treat various cancers.
