2. Ethics, The, And Social Harm Essay
The researcher is acutely aware of himself or herself regarding sensitivity towards the respondent.
Furthermore, concerning some unforeseen or unexpected mistakes those need attention. Followings
are some of the required precautions to avoid some common ethics: psychological, financial and social
harm. Professional researchers always plan the research questions or the questionnaire to prevent any
harassment (Waller, 2011). The preparation of ethics is one of the prerequisites items before engaging

To Do List should include the importance of checking the prerequisites of these methods. To ensure
that NO HARM is potential, the following are imperatives (Waller, 2011):
i. The behavior is within the ethics acceptability provisional margin. ii. How research possibly affects
any participant, whether during a survey, in depth interview, the questionnaire or any similar iii.
Protect all members engaged in research such as the instructor, the assistants on the methods, if any,
and the researcher himself or herself. On this point, the form of ethics is essential before embarking on
research or study.
Other than these, the research will extensively use secondary data sources such as books, journals,

3. Trap Music Thesis
How many of us can say we enjoy hip hop music in some form or another? I know I can, in fact I
listen to it just about every day. Hip hop is not just music to many of us, it s a culture better yet a way
of life. Although hip hop is very influential especially in the African American community, not enough
people touch the negative effects it has on our youth. The new age of hip hop or Trap Music , as it is
commonly referred as, seems to be more vulgar and violent then the hip hop we all grew to love. Trap
music is a music genre that originated in the early 1990s in the Southern United States. It s widely
known for its aggressive lyrical content and sound. The instrumentals are propelled by 808 kick drums

4. Material And The Design Of Football Helmets Essay
Material Use in the Design of Football Helmets: Importance of helmets in concussion Prevention By:
Luc E. Desroches 5/7/15 Introduction American football has been around for over one hundred years,
and along with the sport has been the need to provide proper safety for the players. An assortment of
padding has been instituted in the game that protects against most blunt trauma including blows to the
shoulders, mid section, and legs. In an attempt to prevent fracture of the skull, helmets were designed.
However, studies have shown that helmets do little to nothing to prevent concussive damage to the
brain. A polycarbonate shell is used as the outer housing for regulation football helmets, but along
with this material, the materials used on the inside of the helmet are just as, if not more, important.
The purpose of this report is to analyze the materials used in current football helmet design and the
improvements being made in the field of materials science in order to combat the severe number of
concussions suffered by NFL players. Concussions There is a large amount of ambiguity when
diagnosing concussions. Since there is no definitive test that can be run on the brain while a person is
alive to determine if they have suffered a concussion, recording an accurate number of concussions is
difficult in the NFL or any sport for that matter. A concussion, in the simplest terms, is a jarring of the
brain that is caused by a blow to the head or body. Traditional thinking led

5. The Lottery Short Story Essay
Elements that reinforce the horror of the lottery
An astonishing ending of a story makes a story more memorable and interesting. It lingers in reader s
memory and starts to evoke multiple readings. Such story allows the author to better deliver his or her
values to the audience. In order to build a surprising ending, not only the plotline has to be interesting,
but also needs to use some smart tricks or techniques. In the short story, The Lottery written by Shirley
Jackson, the setting, tone, narrative strategy and irony effectively builds up the plot, inconspicuously
foreshadows and exaggerates the shock and horror of the ending, therefore, effectively reinforces the
themes of the story.
The story starts with the residents of a village gathering together on June 27th, 1948 for an annual
ritual ceremony, the lottery. Although the first half of the story seems celebratory and cheerful, it soon
becomes mysterious that nobody wants to win this lottery. The protagonist, Tessie Hutchinson who
arrives late protests that the event is not fair when her family is selected as the winner . Although it
seems weird, the readers still have no idea what to expect. Until the very last two paragraphs, the truth
is finally revealed. The winner will be stoned to death by all the residents in this town. Throughout the
story, the readers learn about the history of the lottery, people s opinion about the lottery and
procedure of the lottery. However, the final prize of the lottery is

6. The Atrocities Of The Holocaust
The atrocities of the Holocaust placed the German Jewish population in a quagmire of antisemitic
persecution, but it also spread beyond Germany to affect Jews throughout Europe. Poland was such a
country. The first nation invaded by Nazi Germany and the last to be liberated, the population of
Polish Jews was nearly eradicated. How were the Nazis able to accomplish such a feat in a nation
where antisemitism had not been as prevalent? Aside from forcibly introducing antisemitic policy into
Poland, the Nazis relied on fear and self interest to accomplish their goals. For the average Polish
Catholic in 1943, a decision had to be made on where they stood regarding the Jewish problem .
Should they sit idly by and do nothing, or perhaps even assist in the capture of the Jews? Or maybe
they could risk everything by hiding and otherwise aiding the Polish Jews. If I were such a Polish
Catholic citizen living in 1943 and the opportunity arose to help a Polish Jew, my conscience would
prevent me from doing any less. Deciding to aid the Polish Jews is not a decision to be taken lightly.
To aid any number of Jews would risk one s very life. So what would cause an individual to take such
a risk and assist the Jews faced with Nazi persecution? Whether I sympathize with the Jews religion or
not, I would recognize that what the Nazis are doing is atrocious. Only if I were as malicious as the
stereotypical Nazi would I think otherwise. I simply could not survive having done nothing

Alternatives: As previously mentioned, Gupta et al. believe current methods of conducting EIAs are
ineffective. Therefore, they propose an unconventional method for conducting EIAs for landfill siting:
a multivariable calculation of implicated factors using a fuzzy relation, or fuzzy clustering. This
involves the attribution of a weight to each qualitative factor, in order to accurately assess the
environmental impacts of landfills. This method distinguishes itself from the others because it
accounts for the uncertainty caused by the expert s subjectivity, and for the lifetime of the landfill. The
result of this method is a fuzzy relation between frequency of occurrence and the impact on

There is room for a lot of improvement in Quebec s waste management: currently, about half of
household waste is eliminated (MDDELCC, 10) which is not economically viable. To reach its
sustainability goal, the province drafted the Quebec policy for waste management 2011 2015. By the
end date, it aims to reduce household waste to 700kg/person and to increase the diversion rate of
paper, plastic, glass and metal scraps to 70%, and of organic waste to 60% (MDDELCC, 11). An
additional benefit of these propositions is the creation of hundreds of jobs (MDDELCC, 2011). The
plan, albeit optimistic, is still unclear about how to effectively implement waste recovery. In 2012, 6
years after the start of the City of Montreal s composting initiative, only 12% of organic waste was
being recovered (Bruemmer, 2014). Montreal plans on building two biomethanization plants (where
compost is converted into biogas), along with two composting facilities (Bruemmer, 2014). Four
proposed sites have been rejected due to public opposition while an existing one closed this summer.

8. Historical Inaccuracy in Braveheart
The idea that film is a medium in which a director can comment on the ills of society has been around
since the first motion picture was made. The problem with this fact is that directors and producers

interest through the striking of some common chord that the public feels vigorously about. The story

In the movie, Wallace is introduced to the audience as a common man with very humble beginnings
whose father was a farmer. He was in fact not the son of a common farmer but the son of a low level.
Wallace first acted in anger against the English when he was insulted by the son of an English
governor and proceeded to strike him dead and he began his military career. His military dream to free
Scotland started in May 1297 after the murder of Marion Braidfoot who is the historical basis for the
character Murron in Braveheart. Wallace won the battle of Stirling; he was kind of disappointed when
he remembered that he had to fight the English king. The English king brought his army north. The
English army had infantry and archers as well as over 3000 cavalry. The Scottish army was only half
the size and had almost no cavalry. The Scottish army lost, Wallace however went into hiding. The
film Braveheart makes the audience believe that Wallace went around killing his enemies in Scotland,
there is however no historical evidence for this belief. Politics were beginning to change due to the
manipulations of Edward I and even England s enemies wouldn t offer Wallace any help. After
traveling to France, germane and Rome he returns to Scotland after almost years abroad to find out he
was betrayed to the English by a Scottish noble named Sir John Menteith and was turned over to the
English for a trial. He was then taken to for trial and execution. The film Braveheart is

9. The Toxic Waste Dump By Mary Jane
Mary Jane Ramirez was assigned the task of boosting morale and improving work place results on the
third floor of her company, which was referred to as the toxic waste dump . During a chance meeting
with Lonnie from the world famous Pike Place Fish in Seattle Washington, which was in walking
distance from her work site, she began to believe that turning her department around for the better was
possible. Lonnie taught her about the 4 step system of the fish market. Mary Jane knew she wanted to
implement his ideas, and get her staff involved in the fish philosophy of: choose your attitude, play,
make their day, and be present. Mary Jane stepped out of her comfort zone and took a promotion with
her firm. Her boss, Bill, passed down that the upper management of the firm expected to see
improvements in the department that she now managed. The department lacked morale, did nothing to
build relationships with their internal customers, and was the joke of the whole firm, upper
management even referred to them as the toxic waste dump . Mary Jane revisited lecture material from
self help seminars she had attended in the past, studied inspirational quotes, and searched the inner
corners of herself to try and come up with a feasible solution to the duty set before her. It may have
been luck or possibly fate that guided her to the Pike Place Fish during her lunch hour where she was

10. Chivalry And The Codes Of Chivalry
The broad shouldered and muscular knight stood before his king, ready to take fealty. His sword
glistened from being wiped clean of battle. The knight was well known and honored throughout the
kingdom. These males made different vows to protect their country. There were ceremonies for these
affirmations. They had special clothing for battle and everyday living. One part of this was because of
the codes of chivalry. Chivalry has been around for centuries. Knights like those of the middle ages
had many responsibilities and made vows to ensure their commitment to the codes of chivalry.

These knights and their kin were also restricted from wearing cloaks (Mortimer). If the knights
obtained more than 400 marks of land then they had more privileges. The family could dress at their
will. Though they could not wear weasel or ermine fur (Mortimer). It s safe to say there are many
codes of chivalry and ways of living for these medieval knights. There were still numerous other little
and odd rules of these people. Even more rules applied when they took upon avowals.
Knights made several kinds of vows to their kingdom, country, and people of the city. However, they
would make these vows on behalf of their kings or lords. The men who took oaths were then called
fidelis, meaning faithful man in Latin (Biel). These pledges became common by the year 700. When a
knight took a feudal oath of lifelong loyalty to their king, it was called an oath of homage (Biel).
Consequent to these oaths, the knight owed his life to his leader until death. That doesn t mean he was
treated poorly. They were given gifts that many people would only dream of receiving. Knights that
took vows were offered gifts like armour, horses, fine clothing, a home at the castle, and produce from
the land. Prized knights were even offered land. These gifts were called benefices. It soon became
mandatory for knights to take their vows. Over a period of time, these oaths began to change.
During feudalism unexampled oaths took place. The feudalism time period took place between the
years 900 1500.

11. Flexible Budget Research
Introduction
A budget is considered as a standard to facilitate control work activities of the organization. Budgets
are planning tools prepared firstly to start the period being budgeted. Valuable information about the
performance contains of the difference between the actual results and the planning budgets. Therefore,
budgets are both planning tools and performance evaluation.
The most common important element in budget is some measure of anticipated output such as the

3. Determine the actual volume of output achieved. 4. Before a flexible budget can be produced,
managers must identify fixed costs and variable costs. Fixed costs are costs which will not increase or
decrease over a given range of activity. Variable costs are costs which will increase or decrease over a
given range of activity.
Management have identified that the following budgeted costs are fixed:
Direct labor = $8,400
Overheads = $53,000
Identifying the expected variable cost per unit produced and sold:

Now that managers are aware of the fixed costs and the variable costs per unit it is possible to flex the
original budget to produce a budget cost allowance for 1,000 units produced and sold. For the costs
which are wholly fixed or wholly variable the calculation of the budget cost allowance is fairly
straightforward. The remaining costs are semi variable, which means that they are partly fixed and
partly variable. Setting the flexible budget:

|Units of production | |1,000 |1,200 |

12. Comparison Of Greco Roman And Ancient Mexican Practices
While many funerary customs are unique to their separate cultures, some customs and themes can be
seen through both Greco Roman and Ancient Mexican practices. The most notable of these themes are
the ideals of ritual, honor, pottery, and feasting. These four themes can be seen to have heavy
influences in both Greco Roman as well as Aztec Mayan burial rites. The assessment of these themes
through different cultures necessitates first an evaluation of the basic funerary customs of each.
Roman Funerary Customs While the model of a Good Roman Death may have differed by person, the
constant remained that a death that was rapid and without suffering, and in the company of relatives,
was ideal. A Roman funeral began at the deathbed of the deceased with the last kiss, the closing of the
eyes, and the calling out of their name to confirm death. The role of preparing the body was taken over
by the woman of the house if a pollinctores, a male slave commissioned to lie out the body, was not
employed. There were many laws surrounding the proper and decent disposal of the deceased as
written in the Digest of Roman Law. Due to such laws, some worried about the legally mandated
financial burden would join a burial collegium, a club in which members would make contributions to
expense funerals.
Once prepared, the body would be moved to the atrium of the house and placed on a funeral couch or

13. Burning American Flag Persuasive Essay
Whether someone is watching the news or simply flipping through their social media pages, one thing
they will certainly see is protesting of some kind. Recently, the first thing that these protestors want to
do it set fire to the American flag. Why would they do this? Why would they burn a symbol of the
freedom they are using to demonstrate their frustrations? Burning the American flag is wrong not only
legally but also ethically and therefore should not be protected under freedom of speech. When asked
why, most protestors who want to burn the American flag respond with an answer such as it s our first
amendment right. Even though the U. S. Supreme court ruled that burning the American flag is
protected under the first amendment right to freedom of expression, the reality is that it is against the
law to desecrate the American flag. According to 18 U.S. Code § 700 Whoever knowingly mutilates,
defaces, physically defiles, burns, maintains on the floor or ground, or tramples upon any flag of the
United States shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both. This
clearly shows that the legislative branch saw that is was wrong to burn the American flag.
While the judicial branch said, in United States v. Eichman, the Supreme Court once again ruled that
burning the flag was an example of constitutionally protected free speech (Rothman) they made it
clear that no person can be legally charged under this code it doesn t change that fact

14. The Role Of The Greek Gods In The Iliad
What is meant to be will always find a way, this quote by the author Trisha Yearwood addresses the
matter of destiny and fate, which plays an extremely crucial role in Homer s respected poem, the Iliad.
The gods were a big part of the ancient Greeks lives, from influencing commoner s daily lives to the
king s most important decisions. The gods in ancient Greece, however, are not so much like the God/
gods we believe in today. No matter which religion you think of, the God(s) are always portrayed as
all loving and all loving, which is not the case with the Greek gods in the Iliad. Every Greek god seen
in the Iliad showed emotions of the mortals and were evidently biased, telling us that it was of great
importance that the people were in favor of the gods. Throughout the Iliad, we can see the role that the
gods play in the citizens daily lives, individual fate, and the fate of an entire kingdom. ... Show more

Graphically Representing Data
Within a School Setting
Christopher M. Lightfoot Abstract
This paper examines the ability to graphically display frequency distribution tables that are
represented within a school setting. There are three types of data sets that are interpreted within two
types of frequency distribution tables (see Table 1). The first type of data set that is mentioned is a
discrete nominal data set that is graphically displayed as a bar chart (see Figure 1), which displays the
reoccurrence of each category within the simple frequency table (see Table 2). The second data type
referenced is a discrete ordinal data set that was analyzed through a simple frequency table. The
simple frequency table allows for the conversion of the ordinal data into a pie chart (see Figure 2),
which measures the percentages within a four point Likert Scale (see Table 3). The final data source is
a continuous interval set, which was interpreted through a cumulative frequency table (see table 4).
The cumulative frequency table is graphically represented in Figure 3 as a combination of a histogram
(which measures the percentage of class intervals) and scatter points (to identify the cumulative
percentage between all of the class intervals).

There were two Italian artists in two different time periods but artistic styles paralleled one another,

Gian Lorenzo Bernini was a Baroque sculptor and created Apollo and Daphne (c. 1622 25) that

It s a mythological story of the God Apollo and his pursuit of Daphne but she, was an unwilling

Canova s Cupid and Psyche depicted the image of two lovers in an embrace. Although this is more in
line with the Rococo style, the emotion, and real love between a man and a woman displayed and

Audiences praised Bernini for his attention to detail, carving pieces to look life like. Apollo and
Daphne s expressive faces and bodies were original and Apollo s love for Daphne and his tenacity to
keep pursuing her even though he knew she didn t feel the same. Canova had the ability to capture a

area called Gironde, and were much more wealthy and honest as compared to the Jacobins. The
district of Gironde was made up of people of high intellect. The Girondins urged citizens to stop the

gap between the Girondins and the Jacobins, as the Jacobins were seen as the minority. The Girondins
saw themselves as strong enough to dissolve the Jacobins and may have gotten a little cocky as a
result. The minister of War, Pache switched from the Girondins to the Jacobins in 1972, and just a year

21. Themes Of The Book Echo, Great Ambition
All books have themes that teach the reader a lesson. The theme of the book Echo is great ambition.
Another book that has a great theme is Tuck Everlasting which has the theme of hope. I have read so
many books with many great themes. But one book that I read in my summer reading assignment is
Red Queen. This book s theme was so intriguing. Usually, books have themes like friendship, love,
and kindness. But the Red Queen had a very interesting theme. The theme of this book was trust and
betrayal.
Now before I launch into a wide ranged explanation of why it has a theme of trust and betrayal let me
explain the summary of the book to you. Now in this book Mare Barrow s world is divided by blood.

To be more specific I will quote a passage from the book Red Queen. What is it? Who else joined up?
They don t answer me, exchanging glances instead. A few names run through my head, servants and
kitchen boys who would support the cause. But the person who joins us is no servant. He s not even
Red. Maven.
I don t know whether to scream or run when I see my betrothed appear from the shadows. He s a
prince, he s Silver, he s the enemy, and yet, here he is, standing with one of the leaders of the Scarlet
Guard. His companion Holland, an aging Red servant with years of service behind him, seems to swell
with pride. She steps toward us, gun in hand, but she s just as nervous as he is. Still, her voice does not
shake. I want to hear it from your lips, little prince. Tell me what you told him, she says tipping her
head toward Holland. Maven sneers at little prince, his lips curving in distaste, but he doesn t snap at
her. I want to join the Guard, he says, his voice full of conviction. She moves quickly, cocking the
pistol and taking aim in the same motion. My heart seems to stop when she presses the barrel to his
forehead, but Maven doesn t flinch. Why? she hisses.
Because the world is wrong. What my father has done, what my brother will do, is wrong. He is a
prince and, worst of all, the queen s son. I didn t want to trust him for this very reason, for the secrets
he kept hidden. Or maybe this is what he

Should the U.S. build a National Missile Defense System?
What if free people could live secure in the knowledge that their security didn t depend upon the threat
of instant U.S. retaliation to deter an enemy attack?
Ronald Reagan; 1983
In his speech of March 23, 1983, President Reagan presented his vision of a future where a Nation s
security did not rest upon the threat of nuclear retaliation, but on the ability to protect and defend
against such attacks. The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) research program was designed to tell
whether, and how, advanced defense technologies could contribute to the feasibility of this vision.

It consists of a collection of sensor satellites that would obtain and track the missiles during their
trajectory path, giving the BMC2 the earliest trajectory estimate.
The third element is called the In flight Interceptor Communications System. This is the strategically

would be created. The next part, X band/Ground Based Radar, performs tracking, discrimination, and
kill assessments of incoming missiles, providing real time continuous tracking data to the BMC2. The
final part of the missile defense system is the Upgraded Early Warning Radar. These are phased array
surveillance radars, used to detect and track the ballistic missiles. By upgrading the software of
existing early warning radars, they would meet the missile defense requirements.
It has been said that the Missile Defense System is like shooting a bullet down with a bullet This leads
one to believe that it cannot be done. If you can imagine a gun firing a bullet out of it heading up into
the air, than someone else firing a gun into the air trying to hit the first bullet that just fired than you

26. Nuclear Fusion Vs Nuclear Radiation
Each atom of a particle element the majority of the time look and behave the same as any other atom
of the same element. When comparing two atoms of Carbon for example, they both contain the same
number of protons and electrons. In this case the both contain 6 protons. The equal number of protons
and neutrons in this atom creates stability in its nucleus. The two atoms of carbon also have the same
mass, approximately 12 amu, but like all things in nature there are exceptions. A different atom of
carbon can contain 8 neutrons in its nucleus for every 6 protons. When an atom of an element contains
more or less neutrons to protons an unstable environment is now created in the atom which is called a
radioactive isotope. The loss of a neutron in the nucleus of an atom emits energy which can also be
referred to as radiation. What makes these radioactive isotopes so different between stable atoms is the
energy that is released through the loss of the extra neutron in the atom in an attempt to stabilize. This
energy that is released in this everyday phenomenon has become quiet helpful as we find uses for it in
our everyday lives. Radiation has quickly become on the most influential aspects of modern medicine.

Socrates realized that studying an individual wouldn t help him learn the true meaning of justice. If he
really wanted to understand justice, it might be easier to try to observe it in a large group rather than a
single person. By observing what justice was in a community, there was a possibility that finding a
justice in a single person would become much easier. The three men then decided to create a

Certain professions allow some people to earn more money than others in a society. Those with more
wealth are able to by more luxuries and tend to become addicted to the luxurious lifestyle that they
have earned. The rich start to become greedy, and want to be able to maintain their own wealth
without doing much work, even if it means acting unjustly. Conversely, those who don t make as
much money may struggle to keep themselves out of poverty. It is more difficult to provide food and
shelter for themselves, which may lead to things like stealing and other unjust acts. This system of
wealth and poverty create large amounts of injustice in societies around the world, but eliminating
wealth and poverty won t make things any better. In order to completely eliminate wealth and poverty,
you would need to eliminate the idea of money. If no one can earn more or less than others, no one can
be wealthy or impoverished. But without money, injustice would be even more prominent than before.
In the beginning of Republic Glaucon argues the following: Indeed every man believes that injustice is
far more profitable to himself than justice ( Plato pg. 37). Each of us subconsciously tries to do what is
best for ourselves. We want to be able to survive in the world and before we can even think about
doing things for other people, we have to make sure that we are taken care of. If this city didn t have

Unrequited love is love that is not reciprocated. It is unlikely that the person being loved will ever
return the love even if a large amount of time has passed. In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens,
Pip falls in love with Estella the first time he meets her, but she does not love Pip back. Throughout
Pip s life, he thinks about how beautiful Estella is and how she was meant for him. The novel ends
with an original ending, where Pip finds out how Estella has remarried so he remains single, and a
revised ending, which suggests that Pip and Estella might have a relationship together. The original
ending is more fitting since it fits with the novel s expectation of the ending which is that Pip and
Estella should not possibly be in a romantic relationship, while the revised ending doesn t fit with the
expectations. The entire novel places the presumption that there will not be an amorous connection ...

Imagination is a defining characteristic of Anne from Anne of Green Gables . She is known for her

character trait; it is a tool that she uses to survive. Anne uses her imagination to create a world that she
can thrive in, even though it might not match reality. I argue that Anne uses her imagination as a tool
for survival throughout the text. Using Nodelman s claim that the text explores the merits of knowing

While there is not any real danger in Anne of Green Gables, Anne convinces herself that the Haunted
Woods pose a major threat. Anne refused to go into the woods and when Marilla asked her why Anne
thought it was haunted, Anne replied, Diana and I just imagined the wood was haunted (227). In this
case, there was not any actual danger but there could be in other cases, so it is good that Anne uses her
imagination to help her envision what she cannot see. Perhaps the most important and impactful use of
Anne s imagination is as a motivator. When the Queen s class is initially formed, Anne imagines
herself as a teacher, like Miss Stacy, and declares that she will take more interest than ever in [her]
studies now (337). It is significant that Anne became very interested in her studies because it was not
very typical of young girls to continue their education beyond what was explicitly required of them.
However, she imagined herself as a teacher and believed in her potential, even though she could not
physically see it. The rivalry between Anne and Gilbert also fuels Anne s desire to succeed. At first the
rivalry is one sided and something that was mostly made up by Anne s imagination. Nevertheless, it
still fueled her desire to out preform Gilbert. After the exams were over, Anne said she would rather
not pass than to get beat by Gilbert (362). Because Anne has convinced herself that failing to Gilbert
would be detrimental, she works harder to surpass him and ends up on top herself. At the Hotel
Concert, Anne imagines the crowd asking for an encore and later telling Matthew about it (372). She
eventually experiences a bit of stage fright but then sees Gilbert in the audience. Anne imagines
Gilbert laughing at her and thinks, he should never be able to laugh at her, never, never (376). She

30. Integration Of Technology And Strategy
Introduction
Integration of technology and strategy has become increasingly important for successful business
operations over the last decade. More competitors in a given market reduces the ability for consumers
to differentiate one product over a substitute product and sales are diluted for all market players.
Successful start ups that do develop a differentiated product and achieve success in their infancy,
struggle to sustain their product quality as they compete on a larger scale. However, if implemented
strategically, information technology (IT) can be a saving grace. Technology can relieve the stress of
the fierce competition through creation of an imitation resistant value chain that competitors cannot

wanted technology to completely take over human operated tasks, and allow humans to focus on the
solely human elements of business: customer interaction and customer satisfaction.
Mrs. Fields Information System, was incorporated into the business model, shortly after the first Mrs.
Fields stores were opened. It was in these early stages that the system began collecting and storing
data that would become invaluable over the next decade as the business growth skyrocketed.
Over the Mrs. Fields growth years, the Mrs. Field Information System was able to maintain product
quality throughout the rapid expansion and allow Mrs. Field to remain a non franchised company. As
the company grew, the system came to understand the success recipe based on the years of trial and
error data that it stored. The system could forecast sales volumes, screen new employees and be the
vehicle to maintain Debbi Fields quality expectations that had made Mrs. Fields successful in the first
place. By the time the competitors in the snack food industry became aware of Mrs. Fields
Information System success, it was already too late. They could not implement this type of system
without the back years of company and sales data that the system would need to serve them in this
way.

31. How Does Swimming Affect The Body
Competitive sports effect the body in positive and negative ways. Sports can be good for a persons
character and often result in life long friendships, and bonds. Sports join the world in an inseparable
bond, that is competition. Swimming is a beautiful sport that takes grace and endurance. Swimming
also builds lung endurance. But, the chlorine in the pools cause respiratory issues such as asthma. We
must start to fix this issue to restore health to swimmers. For most of my life I have competitively
swam and for the past three years I have lifeguarded, I am often in a chlorinated environment. I have
noticed that when competing and working I am more prone to having chest colds and breathing
trouble. To understand chlorines role in causing respiratory discomfort, we have to understand our
environment and how the water density affects the lungs. When people exercise they raise their heart
rate. When ones heart rate is rapid it is up to their lungs, and respiratory system to provide the blood
with oxygen. With competitive swimming a swimmers heart rate will rise and the swimmer will need
a to breathe, but swimming has a low oxygen intake compared to other sports. The water is 800 times
the density of the air. This shrinks the airway 2 millimeters, which constricts the chest, consequently
constricting breathe (Swimming and asthma). Let me introduce two words: hydrastic load, and
thoracic cavity. The hydrastic load is when a person is in a vertical position, submerged in water.

36. Health Geography Is A Branch Of Social Science
*Health geography approaches. Health geography is a branch of social science which investigates the
interaction between people and the environment. Health geography views health from an all inclusive
perspective combining society and space, and it intellectualises the role of place, location, and
geography within the realm of health, wellbeing, and disease. To put it simply, health geography
examines why space and place are central for health variation in the population. As a result,
approaches in health geography are varied, often drawing on different ways of conceptualizing space,
place, and health. As Cattrall and Elliott, (2009) state, it would be a mistake to believe that there is
only one correct approach, instead we should remain open minded and appreciate different
philosophical and epistemological approaches and viewpoints in health and how they contribute to the
enhancement of our understanding of a particular health issue. My answer will be based on Gatrell and
Elliott who discuss these approaches extensively.
The Positivist Approach Positivism applies to factual knowledge gained through the senses including
measurement. Oftentimes, positivism research relies on observable, quantifiable, generalizable data
collection later interpreted objectively. In a health context, positivist accounts seek to uncover causes
or aetiological factors; however, the best that can be established is often a strong association rather
than a direct cause. Positivist concerns

Palliative care seems to be a grey area of nursing. Nursing for many years has been thought of as a
healing process, aiding people to their healthiest place. Palliative care is also known as comfort care,

palliative care can begin at diagnosis, and at the same time as treatment. Hospice care begins after
treatment of the disease is stopped and when it is clear that the patient is not going to survive the

41. The Role Of Women s Video Games
When discussing the role of women in video games, it is important to establish what an acceptable
female character is. An acceptable female character has her own motivations that are not dependent on
a male character, is not overtly sexualized, and has a multi dimensional personality. A well written
female character has a storyline that is independent of other male characters and does not serve to
further male storylines. The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog, follows Joel as he leads Ellie, a
young girl, across a post apocalyptic world. Ellie, rather than existing as a tool to further Joel s man
pain, acts on her own inhibitions. Ellie also becomes a playable character at certain points and
Alexandra Neonakis, part of the team that created the game, states that these are some of the most
important plot points (JAMSTEW, 2015). The story itself focuses on the fact that she may contain the
cure to the infection that has riddled the United States, turning people into a zombie like state. While
some may see the relationship of Joel and Ellie as merely Joel using Ellie for his own purposes, it is
more of a mutual relationship. With the influence of Joel and other factors, Ellie goes on a journey
from a damsel in distress to a fully capable and complex character , states Neonakis (JAMSTEW,
2015). The game attempted to showcase a relationship between man and women where each needed
each other for support and to improve themselves. A women s sexuality can be an integral part

42. Social Stereotypes In The Boy And Barbie Doll
Stereotypes are often found in society and can encourage literature and art to agree or disagree with
these ideas. In The Boy and Barbie Doll the topic of gender roles displayed through imagery,
repetition, and simile, by highlighting the appearances and expectations of males and females. From
the moment the sex of a child is determined, people begin associating ideas and objects to that sex. If
it is a girl many will buy pink clothes and imagine her in a ballet class. If it is a boy they will buy blue
clothes and picture him as a football player. In both The Boy and Barbie Doll the authors address the
role and appearance of females through imagery, describing them in a way that fits the social
stereotype but pushes the comfort level.

43. Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Utilitarianism
Could one give a justification for making an innocent individual suffer just to preserve the happiness
of the greater good? In the story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula Le Guin, the life
of a young child is ignored and imprisoned in order to make others happy. However, the situation in
Omelas can be approached in one or two ways, including either the deontological view or the
utilitarianism view. The city of Omelas is portrayed to individuals as a welcoming place that is full of
festivals and happiness. However, this is not the case since a young child is forced into imprisonment.
Without the suffrage of the young child who is living in a basement under a beautiful building in
Omelas, where all the doors are locked, has no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Related to the city of Omelas, the ones that believe in utilitarianism would view Omelas as a good
society and see nothing wrong in the actions and results being made. Their belief is in the system that
happiness is the ultimate goal and the actions are not as important as the overall happiness of the
general public. There were no rules set that hindered what the citizens could do to make a majority of
them happy, so imprisoning the child was not a significant issue to them. So rather than making
everyone suffer a little, the child will suffer forever so the rest do not. While it in itself may be
horrible, they view it as a way which increases the utility of the people which makes the actions
morally worthy. Additionally, their perspective is that the people that leave Omelas due to not agreeing
with the situation is good as well. The reason for that is because they are making the overall happiness
level stay the same because the people that are unhappy are leaving the city all together. The
deontological view is better than the utilitarianism view because utilitarianism just worries about the
greater good enjoying happiness, no matter the circumstances that an individual suffers. While
deontology views the incident as that no one should suffer to make everyone happier, and everyone
should be able to enjoy happiness without suffrage. Because if one

44. Poverty Of South Carolina Is An Issue For All Citizens Essay
Poverty in South Carolina is an issue for all citizens. The issue is particularly acute if you are a citizen
living in poverty, but the issue is of critical importance to those citizens that must support those areas
stricken by persistent poverty. Unbeknownst to many South Carolinians is the persistent poverty
corridor in which certain counties struggle much more than others long I95. Allendale County stands
out even amongst its peers as a county that is struggling to address multigenerational poverty. This
paper deals with Allendale County poverty after offering insight into poverty in general within South
Carolina.
Persistent Poverty in South Carolina
Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined poverty
threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the 60s to
benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to account for
inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold levels annually.
Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a family has insufficient
resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the established poverty amount
is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. Income as defined by the federal rules can
include cash and cash welfare assistance, but excludes any in kind welfare assistance. There are
restrictions a few other

45. Post-Modernism In International Relations
Post Modernsism is a very important and essential theory that has been brought about to the study of
international relations. It falls under the category of post positivism, which is a rejection of positivism
in the sense that it dismisses the notion that international relations can be observed in an objective
manner. Other theories encompassed in the post positivism umbrella include constructivism, neo
marxism, critical theory, feminism, and post colonialism (Burchill 2013). Post Modernism also
brought about new perspectives to international relations, these include: arbitrary nature of modernity,
choice posing as truth, reality as a social construction, the rejection of positivism, the crisis of
modernity, loss of confidence in the authority of the grand narratives, its relation to language, and the
process of identity construction. Also, notably, Post Modernism may receive criticism from
constructivism and realism, but ultimately arguments for Post Modernism will make more logical
sense within the international relations arena. Lastly, Post Modernism is essential because of it s
unique views in ideas such as language, abstract views, etc., to better understand political activity
within the international relations community. First and foremost, Post Modernism has added some
very fresh and important factors to theorists in international relations. Post Modernism is more
specific than its predecessors because it critiques the Enlightenment project as whole, specifically

46. The Second Punic War Essay
he Second Punic War (218 201 B.C.) was born out the growing rivalry between the empires of Rome
and Carthage (Morey, 1901, p. 64). When the Carthaginian territory in Spain began to extend
northward, Rome became concerned that an attack was imminent. This concern prompted Rome to
seek a treaty with Carthage establishing a border along the Iberus river in norther Spain. Carthage
respected the treaty until the death of Hasdrubal. Afterward the son of Hamilcar Barca, named
Hannibal immediately broke the treaty by capturing the city of Saguntum. A Roman envoy was sent to
Carthage to demand the surrender of Hannibal. Carthage refused and the Second Punic War began
(Morey, 1901, p. 64).
Over the next seventeen years Rome fought off the invasion of Hannibal s army in Italy. Hannibal had
gained many allies in the Italian peninsula including the Apulians, the Samnites, the ... Show more

Carthage would withdraw from Spain entirely, as well as the islands between Italy and Africa. These
islands included Sicily, Corsica, and Sardinia. Masinissa, was recognized as the king of Numidia.
Masinissa had assisted Scipio when the Roman forces landed in Africa. His title had been disputed by
a Carthaginian ally named Syphax (Morey, 1901, p.70). The restoration of his royal title was
repayment for his allegiance to Rome. Carthage was not absorbed into the empire, nor reduced to a
province, rather it was considered a dependent state and was required to pay a tribute of 200 talents for
fifty years. Lastly, Carthage would require permission from Rome in order to wage war (Morey, 1901,
p. 71).
In addition to the peace agreement there were other outcomes of the Second Punic War. Syracuse was
added to the province of Sicily and the Spanish territory was divided into two new provinces, Hither
and Farther. Finally, the conflict had opened the door to hostility with Philip V of Macedonia (Morey,
1901, p.

47. Analytic Rubrics
There are advantages and disadvantages that exist for both holistic and analytic rubrics. Teachers use
holistic rubrics (e.g. the Holistic Oral Language Scoring Rubric and the Holistic Scoring Rubric for
Writing Assessment with ELL Students) to assess their students cognitive functions simultaneously
while analytic rubrics (e.g. the Student Oral Language Observation Matrix and the Analytic Scoring
Rubric for Writing) assess children s abilities separately and assign a different score to each learning
aptitude/dimension. Advantages of using holistic rubrics include the following: faster scoring process;
can be used a means of summative assessment at the end of project or a unit; emphasizes the positive
aspects of a student s work. The downside
