Inherent bias/political slants E.g. Fox news channel headed by Republican supporters often portray
Democrats in a negative light. Fox s anchorman compared the logo of the recent nuclear technology

Essay On The Nomination Process
Nonetheless, the difference in party alignment has clear implications for the nomination process.
During the nomination process, you are facing other members of your party to fight for the single
nomination for the general election. This means you have to fight over voters with quite similar
ideologies. This would exclude the extreme number of people from the other party, and perhaps
many people who are in the middle and cannot decide which way to lean yet. Due to this, candidates
must strategize their rhetoric and conduct to appeal to the most extreme members of the party.
Studies have shown that the people who vote in primary electionsare in general more highly
educated, and indicate more party activism/pride (Lecture Notes).
For as long as this process has seemed to get the job done, people this election cycle have been
curious if certain changes could be made to the nomination process that would allow for more
suitable candidates in the future, especially considering the displeasure of this current elections ...

The most important thing we can do as a nation is to be aware of what is happening, and why it is
happening, because a true democracy is an informed democracy. Fighting for our values and
beliefs is all we can really do, and we need to make sure we are expressing our opinions in a
respectful and constructive manner because this is the only way people will actually take the
time to listen to what you have to say. Is our system perfect? Perhaps not, but this is the system
we have been given and it is our prerogative to take advantage of it. If something or someone is
impeding our ability to speak our minds or is challenging our freedom, it is the people s
responsibility to gather together to fight for positive reform, in order to make our democracy as
flawless and efficient as

Paper On Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou was born on April 28, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri to Bailey and Vivian Johnson.
Her given name was Marguerite Ann Johnson, but she was nicknamed Maya by her older brother.
Over the course of her life, Angelou had many jobs ranging from a fry cook to a sex worker. She
broke through as both an author and poet with her publication of her autobiography, I Know Why
the Caged Bird Singsin 1969. (Wikipedia.com) From that point on, Maya Angelouwould become a
very prominent figure in American literature.
Maya s younger years were filled with pain and tragedy. When she was only three years old, her
parents separated, moving Maya and her brother into the home of their grandmother in Stamps,
Arkansas. While growing up in this area, Angelou became aware of the discrimination and racism
that was prevalent during this time in America. (Hyperlink.com) At the age of eight, Angelou was
reinstated into the care of her mother. It was during this time period that Maya was sexually
abused by her mother s boyfriend. Shortly after this incident occurred, Angelou became mute and
would not speak again for five years. This time period in Maya Angelou s life would ... Show more

Street Dreams And Hip Hop Barber Shops Summary
Brad Weiss s ethnographic research on popular culture, hanging out in barbershops and bus
stands, seamstress tables and video halls, was carried out in the northern Tanzanian city of
Arusha. In Street Dreams and Hip Hop Barber Shops Weiss does a great job observing the
everyday life of the people in Arusha. He explores how globalization and neoliberalism affect
the mindset of a community and shows the reader how gender role, media, and self fashioning
can play a big role in a person life. Weiss s fieldwork and observation is very accurate and
informative for the most part but looses the reader in some of the topics that he presents. Brad
Weiss does a great job in his chapter on gender and the role that it plays in the community of...

He explains to the reader that the young men and women of Arusha are social actors who try to
find a niche and struggle to participate in a world that is significant for them. I strongly agree
with Weiss s point and believe that every young person in any society are social actors who try to
fit in a world that they feel is right for them and use popular culture and globalization as a tool to
get there. Brad Weiss does a great job showing the reader that barbershops around Tanzaniaare
more than just a place for getting a haircut. He explains to the reader in great detail that the
people of Tanzania see barbershops as a place for obtaining news, catching up on the latest trends,
gossip, discovering new music, or just simply hanging out. Barbershops provide men with a
chance , an opportunity or a place during times of uncertainty. Weiss spends most of his time at
barbershops because it is a great place for studying popular culture and allows him to see what the
clients at these barber shops find interesting. There were some things that I found problematic in
Weiss s writing that can turn off some readers. Some parts of the book he tends to over analyze
and bore the reader with useless facts. I found myself

How Did Alexander Graham Bell Influence The Discovery Of...
Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray s inventions of the telephone Communication was vital

what Bell was saying. In the next test, Bell shortened the distance to 4 miles. The people

telephone would work for any distance. Bell s colleagues offered to sell the patent for $100,000.
The Western Union said it was nothing more than a toy and they would not pay that much.
Later, his partners said to Bell that he could sell his patent for about $25 million. Bell thought it
was too late and decided not to sell it and to keep his company. Bell began to show the world his
revolutionary design. One of the more famous demonstrations was from New York to Chicago in
1892. Queen Victoria showed excitement and said, Most extraordinary! The positive advice Bell

Traveling Through The Dark And Woodchucks Analysis
Exploring the interaction between animals and humans, the poems Traveling through the Dark and
Woodchucks both analyze this relationship with unique insightfulness. William Stafford, the author
of Traveling through the Dark, depicts an accidental encounter with a dead deer on the road, while
Maxine Kumin, the author of Woodchucks, invites the readers to witness a hateful holocaust
against woodchucks. Although focusing on similar topics with regard to human s reaction towards
the death of animals, Traveling through the Dark and Woodchucks display a solid contrast of their
use of syntax, distinguished by the complexity of their language, and the focus of their main
themes, which reveals the two author s different attitudes on men and the nature. To begin with,
Stafford applies relatively simple grammatical structures and sentence types, while in contrast
Kumin uses complex syntax as the major attribute of his poem. In Traveling through the Dark,
Stafford depicts a scenario involving a man encountering a dead animal in the darkness, as he
writes that Traveling through the dark I found a deer / dead on the edge of the Wilson River road,
a simple statement that directly contextualizes the scenario that the narrator discovered a dead deer
on the road (1 2). In specific, the sentences in the poem lack complicated layers of grammatical
structure, but instead their composition style is close to colloquial, evident by statements like I
found a deer and I dragged

Taylorism Theory Of Scientific Management
Many theorists have influenced and demonstrated certain ideas and concepts that influence the
social and psychological factors in an organisational management. Taylorism theory of scientific
management developed techniques for improving the efficiency of the work process. The scientific
management approach revolves around the idea of arranging for work to accomplish proficiency,
institutionalization, specialization, and improvement. With Taylor s scientific approach decisions
are based on science or exact measurements. Taylor s theory decreased its role dramatically in the
event of being questioned whether scientific managementwas efficient. The human relation school
of management thought developed due to the flaws in the assumptions of the Taylorism theory.
Taylorism was inclined towards efficiency, process and principle, however critiques felt human
behavior was neglected. Organisations should take initiative in helping employees adjust to
organisational life by nurturing cooperative systems between labour and management. Finally, this
essay will reveal the evolution from Taylor s scientific principles of management to Elton Mayo s
Human Relation School of Thought as employee well being and motivation has been given more
recognition over the course of time.
Fredrick Taylor made an observation of men at work which led him to develop what is known as
Taylorism management theory. He theorized that workers were inefficient because they tend to

Don Giovanni Mood
The title character of Mozart s Don Giovanni embodies a figure that holds few ethical values, is
wealthy, and endlessly seduces various women. With the use of his servant, Leporello, Don
Giovanni is able to evade women who would like to marry him, such as Donna Elvira. Due to his
treacherous actions, at the end of the opera, Don Giovanniis forced to decide between accepting his
fate in hell, or renouncing his former lifestyle by ceasing his pursuit of women. Despite the dark
ending, some scenes of the opera are playful, and are even charismatic at times. As the scenes shift
in mood, such as from ominous to charismatic, the music composed for these scenes shift as well.
Scene one in act II presents an interesting illustration of shifts in moods,... Show more content on

Interestingly, the melody that Don Giovanni uses to serenade Donna Elvira s maid with, is
similar to the melody he used to woo Donna Elvira at 1:16 in the trio. However, the mandolin he
used to serenade the maid with makes the piece more playful, in comparison to Donna Elvira s
song. By reusing the same melody, Don Giovanni can be seen as using the same tricks to seduce
women. It seems even more heartbreaking for Donna Elvira, because while she believes the
words sung by Don Giovanni are only meant for her, Don Giovanni uses them on her own maid.
The end of the scene reconfirms Don Giovanni s role as the trickster, and reconfirms Don Elvira s
role as a woman who was easily

Tyranny Of The Majority Analysis
As an illustration about Alexis description of the Tyranny of the Majority, first we need to
understand his suspicions of its ability to protect the minority. The fact that the majority agree with
slavery is proof that majority rule did not protect the minorities. Alexis also viewed people as
seeking their own personal goal, and if placed in a position of power over the majority there could
be a conflict of moralities. For example, those in the majority who have the financial and
educational advantage over those in the minority, can maintain this advantage over those in the
minority. One of the most objections Alexis had with America were, the few protections against
tyranny (Alexis de Tocqueville 74). Another opinion was about the aristocratic

Female Promiscuity And False-Analysis
While growing up with two brothers and one sister, we had wrestling matches between us at all
times. Showing aggressive behavior is typical amongst boys, and it is one of the most consistent
documented psychological differences between the sexes. A meta analysis was constructed
showing a moderate difference in boys having a higher rate of aggression than girls at a d=.55
(Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). We were not punished for wrestling each other, although as soon as my
parents saw my sister was involved, we were immediately scolded. It did not matter that she was
the second toughest out of us four. This installed a certain perspective and idea that we must protect
her and not put her in dangers way.

The women s role varied from working alongside men in the field, in house chores, and finishing
off her day caring for her own family and community back in the slave quarters (Abrams, 2012).
Men back in those times were mainly in the field, but also worked in specialized areas such as
carpenters, blacksmiths, and shoemakers (Abrams, 2012). Later, they returned to their quarters to
provide for their families by hunting and gathering animals and making household items for the
community.
African American views on gender today haven t changed drastically as women are still the main
caretaker of the family (Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). The most surprising fact was that since 1986
women have outnumbered the men in the workforce (Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). Although forty four
percent of families are headed by black women, it notes that fifty six percent of families must be
headed by men or men and women together (Hyde, Else Quist,

The Population of the Wild Hog is Exploding
Today in America there is a wild dangerous animal that is greatly expanding. It is being seen
more often in neighborhoods more than ever. The wild hog population is currently exploding.
These animals get up to 400 pounds with 6 in long razor sharp teeth. They also have a thick hide
and a armor like plating called a shield around their chest area. They are destroying Americas
agriculture industry as well as peoples property. By digging their snouts into the earth and
flipping it up to eat plant roots. This is called rooting. A group of hogs can root and destroy
several acres of crops or land in a single night. Wild hogs were first introduced to America by the
Spanish as a domestic animal used for meat. Over time these animals escaped and began free
ranging and breeding. They quickly became wild. In the 1930 s owners of ranches introduced
Russian boars to be shot in game preserves. These Russian boars grow much larger, are more
aggressive and have larger, sharper teeth. When they escaped, cross breeding occurred that
introduced the genes that gave America the hybrid feral swine they have today. These animals are
not only a threat to the economy but they are also a threat to people, other wildlife and the native

Characterism In Alius Grace
Niederhoff says, In Alias Grace, the spirit of Mary also supports Grace. We should not see the
ghostly presence inside Grace in exclusively negative terms: as a demon to be exorcised, a
disorder to be cured. We should also see it as a survival strategy. The person talking through Grace
s mouth during the hypnosis scene quite literally defends and protects Grace when she tells the
audience that Grace is not guilty of the murders because she knew nothing about them. This person
also enables Grace to insulate her mindagainst the memory of traumatic experiences, and provides
her with an outlet for her feelings of jealousy and rage, primarily against Nancy, that Grace more
or less represses in her own person. Moreover, the Mary inside Grace turns the tables on the male
victimizers with the help of her host s body. Grace can maintain her own sanity and identity only
at the cost of splitting in two, of relegating some of her memories and actions to a second person,
who turns out to be a murderer. This person, intruding ghost or self created alter, is alias Grace ;
she is the same woman as Grace Marks in the sense that she shares some of the experiences and
motives of the latter, and she is a different person in the sense that Grace Marks is not aware of her
(Niederhoff 79). I also agree with Niederhoff s viewpoint. The notion that Grace is possessed for
the purpose of protecting herself relates to Grace s wish of her mother to do so. As Grace recalls of

The Ecstasy of Reason Essay
In the Bacchae, Euripides questions the authority of god versus man and man s allegiance to the
gods. Pentheus is caught in a unique struggle of maintaining authority in his own kingdom and
keeping allegiance to his favored god Apollo. The appearance of Dionysus in Thebes raises a
conflict for Pentheus in that he can not accept the authority of a god other than the one he has
chosen to revere within his kingdom. Pentheus resists Dionysussupreme authority as a show of
solidarity with Apollo and the laws of reason versus Dionysus and the disruption of civil order.

The sex life of the female citizens should be regulated, bound to laws and customs and have no
contact with the filthy mysteries (ln 260) that Dionysus commands. The Bacchae represent a force
that Pentheus cannot control and this loss of control over his city is the ultimate unmanning of
Pentheus as a leader. The prospect of expressed female sexuality infuriates Pentheus who refers to
the spreading eroticism as obscene disorder (ln 232). Pentheus vows to destroy Dionysus, that
effeminate stranger, the man who infects our women with this strange disease and pollutes our

Pentheus sense of balance and order on both a civic and a personal level.

Assess the Extent to Which Short Term Factors Are Now More...
The electorate are those that are eligible to vote, and many factors can influence the way in which
the electorate do vote. Primacy, also known as long term, factors are those that have a long term
influence on the way in which somebody votes, for example the social class in which that person
belongs to. Recency also referred to as short term, factors are those which have a short term
influence and most prominently during the lead up to an election, an example of a recency factor is
the impact of mass media. In the last few decades many long term factors have become less
important due to partisan and social de alignment, whilst the short term factors have been ever

This occurred due to embourgeoisement, which was the tendency of the better off working class
people with aspirations to become more like the middle classes in their social outlook and voting
behaviour. This new type of class was classified by Crewe as the new working class of the new
estates and new service economy of the South. The voting behaviour had been changed, instead of
voting for Labour the new working class were more inclined to the tax cut, nationalisation and
union policies of the Conservatives. Also, demographic changes lead to inner cities emptying and
their electoral base eroded, whilst the South grew where it had a concentration of Conservative
voters. Therefore, the long term factors of social class and party identification have become less
important in shaping the voting behaviour, mainly as the working class was less aligned to
Labour. However, the general election results of 2005 suggest there is still a small link between
social class and voting as Labour had a clear majority against the Conservatives in some of the
inner cities, where the concentration of working class lie. There is great evidence to suggest that
short term factors have been very influential in the voting behaviour of the electorate today. To

The hope of this principle is to establish an environment of honesty and accountability by focusing

The eleventh rule refers to the need of private issuers to disclose any significant difference in
corporate governance practices compared to domestic companies listed under the New York Stock
Exchange (NYSE, 17). This requirement is not made to presume that any country s corporate
governance is better than another. The rule is in place to solely ensure investors are informed of

Rule twelve is concerned with CEOs certifying annually that their companies are not in violation of

considered a market where Apple faces fierce competition. We must mention Apple s step into the
mobile communications market with their revolutionary product, the iPhone. Apple faces many well
established competitors, but despite the appeal of their product, they cannot win over the whole
market because of its price, and because of the imitations other competitors make of the iPhone.
This essentially reduces Apple s chance to completely take over the mobile communications market.
What are the core competencies of this company and how are these used to competitive advantage?
Apple is unique in the sense that

The Original Position and the Veil of Ignorance
Political philosopher John Rawls believed that in order for society to function properly, there
needs to be a social contract, which defines justice as fairness . Rawls believed that the social
contract be created from an original position in which everyone decides on the rules for society
behind a veil of ignorance. In this essay, it will be argued that the veil of ignorance is an important
feature of the original position. First, the essay will describe what the veil of ignorance is.
Secondly, it will look at what Rawls means by the original position. Thirdly, it will look at why
the veil of ignorance is an important feature of the original position. Finally, the essay will present
a criticism to the veil of ignorance and the original... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, the goal of the original position is to find out a fair and equal way to achieve the
principles of justice.
Why is The Veil of Ignorance an Important Feature of The Original Position? The main goal of
the original position is to set up a impartial procedure so that any principle agreed to will be fair
and just (Rawls, 1971). In order to create principles that are fair and just, people must nullify the
effects of specific contingencies which put men at odds and tempt them to exploit social and
natural circumstances to their own advantage. (Rawls, 1971, 136) In order to do this effectively,
Rawls argues that the parties involved have to be situated behind a veil of ignorance (Rawls,
1971). Without being behind the veil of ignorance, and if a knowledge of particulars is allowed,
then the outcome is biased by arbitrary contingencies. (Rawls, 1971, 141) Therefore, the
restrictions on the particular knowledge in the original position are of fundamental importance
(Rawls, 1971). Without the original position, the parties involved would not be able to work out
any definite principles of justice (Rawls, 1971). The society who does not enact a social contract
from the original position would then have to be content with a vague understanding of justice and
therefore have very little substance to the agreement itself (Rawls, 1971). The veil of ignorance
makes it possible to have a unanimous choice of a particular conception of justice (Rawls,

The Importance Of Cultural Globalization
Cultural globalization supposes, not only empiric human contacts among civilizations (transporter
revolution), but also intellectual instruments of understanding among contact groups in a more or
less brutal manner. Let us call humanist sciences those intellectual instruments, having a wide
enough meaning: history, philology, linguistics, archeology, sociology, philosophy. Trying to create
a global culture, an important role is played by foreign languages. English is undoubtedly placed in
the top of hierarchy, being used both in Romania and in the whole world in all its types: written,
spoken, formal, informal as well as registers specialized for economy, law, technique, journalism etc.
It has become lingua franca by excellence and keeps on strengthening this domination through a
process of self consolidation. It also reached Romania as the main language of international
communication in the field of business, policy, administration, science and academic world, being
as well the dominant language of global publications and popular culture. The main language in the
field of computers is English, being the written language for Windows and Internet protocols. At
the same time, English is the language used in safety procedures, such as air traffic control. Over
two thirds of total scientists in the world write in English, three quarters of international
correspondence is written in English and 80% of information in recovery systems of world
electronic data is stocked in

Brain Psychology
If babies bodies grew at the same rapid pace as their brains, they would weigh 170 pounds by one
month of age. Once the baby is born learning starts immediately. Humans learn so many different
life skills between birth to eight years old, for instance their name, counting, reading, writing,
sitting, walking, running, talking, using the bathroom, the alphabet and different colors and shapes.
Adults do almost all these abilities without even noticing their doing them. It may not seem very
hard to learn the normal abilities but if the abilities weren t taught at a young age when the brain
absorbs everything it sees and learns people wouldn t be able to function. Children s brains

The Well-Known Story Of Narcissistic Myth
The etiology of what is known today as Narcissistic Personality Disorder can be traced back to a
time in which humans struggled to identify and define themselves in the world. The well known
story of narcissus, for whom the term Narcissism and Narcissistic Personality Disorder is named
after, first emerged around 8 A.D. The story goes into depth of how Narcissus, a Thespian, the
son of the nymph Leiriope, developed a tenacious pride in his own beauty. A roman poet named
Ovid tells the story of how Narcissus became fascinated and entranced by his own beautiful
appearance in a clear spring for hours at a time in his narrative Metamorphoses. In Robert Grave s
version of the story, The Greek Myths, he summarizes how Narcissus was pursued by heartlessly
rejected lovers of both sexes and turned all of them down because he favored himself more (1955).
Graves elaborated on how Narcissus rejected Echo, whom was a suitor. As professed to his mother
by a famous seer, Narcissus will live to a ripe old age provided that he never knows himself
(Graves, 1955). This well known Greek myth has become the perfect display of Narcissistic

Freud believed that narcissism, which he considered a normal and healthy part of human
development, was formed in the stage known as the original libidinal cathexis of the ego (Freud,
1914). In this stage, Freud makes note of the fact that younger children sometimes have to refocus
their libidinal drives because the child has a hard time differentiating between themselves and their
mother (Freud, 1914). During this hard time that the child has, the energy and drives that are
devoted to their care taker are known as libidinal drives and what is left in the child is seen as
narcissistic, as those drives are consumed within its

Relationship Between Vivian And Molly
In any genuine friendship there are the differences between the people that spark curiosity, yet,
it is similarities that draw two together to form a tight bond. This is evident in the friendship that
starts between Vivian and Molly. Vivian, from outward show, does not display the slightest
similarity with Molly. It is not until one examines the often tragic back stories of both that
striking parallels begin to be made clear. By the time all is uncovered, the likenesses shared
between Vivian and Molly far outweigh any disparities. In examining the relationship between
Vivian and Molly, a perfect balance is struck in Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. In
Orphan Train, Christina Baker Kline weaves a strong friendship between two characters, Vivian
and Molly, despite a lengthy list of differences. The most blatant contrast, and the root cause of
many other differences, is age and the separate eras both Vivian and Molly grow up in. In the
span of her life, Vivian Nielsen, a ninety one year old widow, experiences the Great Depression,
World War II, and a technology boom impossible to keep up with. On the other hand, Molly Ayer
is a sixteen year old tech savvy foster child who uses her Goth persona like armor against an
unsympathetic society (Kline 4). Another dissimilarity is ethnicity. Vivian is a first generation Irish
immigrant and in being a Penobscot Native American Indian, Molly is unable to be more different
than Vivian. While these differences seem apparent, the

Finding Truth And Finding Peace
This past week we read some very different articles in terms of what they were witnesses to. To
me a witness is someone who tells a story in hopes of finding truth and finding peace. A witness
mean someone who is willing to listen to people tell theirs stories and continue to tell those stories
when other people are no longer able to. While visiting the AfricaBurial Grounds going through the
different exhibits, I came across a quote that I believe describes in perfect detail what a witnessis. I
m for truth no matter who tells it, I m for justice no matter who it is for or against. I m a human
being first and foremost, and as such I m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity (Malcolm
X). I believe that a witness s job is to tell the truth regardless of whom that truth will affect. We as
people have the obligation to other human beings to be just and tell their stories, and fight for them
when they are not able to. While visit the African Burial Grounds I considered my self to be
witness what these people went through. Throughout the museum there were different stories that
depicted tremendous suffering. There was a particular picture that stood out to me and it was of
when African Americans were taken from Africa to be transported to the United States. The
picture showed African Americans being thrown over board because they were dead, sick, or
about to die. In that instance I considered my self a witness because learning about the slave trade

Does A Person s Socioeconomic Background Influence...
Does a Person s Socioeconomic Background Influence Altruistic Behavior? During the Middle
Ages, the majority of peasants in Feudal Europe were loyal and submissive to their nobles,
motivated by the values taught in their strong Catholic belief system. According to Chapter XVI:
The Life of the Peasants , the successes of many nobles and knights were due to the faithfulness of
their peasants, whom they had oppressed and wronged (Davis 46). Modern day altruismis also
influenced by socioeconomic status and religion, similar to how the religious members of the third

According to Judith Warner, a New York Times journalist who specializes in psychology, the
charitable giving deficit is due to the lack of empathy towards the hardships of the poor among their
rich counterparts (Warner 2). In light of this, it is important to determine how socioeconomic
background influences donation patterns in order to bridge the charitable giving gap. Altruistic
behaviors in their quintessential form are selflessly motivated prosocial actions; they influence
virtually all human interactions. In America, altruism is ostensibly embodied in the giving patterns
of wealthy philanthropists who have a history of creating endowments and donating assets to higher
education and other charitable programs. However, in reality, the lower and middle classes account
for most of the charitable giving in America. Furthermore, altruism is identified with prosocial
behavior, or actions that benefit society as a whole, in sociological interactions. Individuals who
come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more altruistic because their increased empathy
for human welfare and intrinsic self transcendent value systems motivate them to give more readily.
Sociological
In sociology, altruism characterizes virtually all human interactions. Whether it be marginal acts of
kindness or donations to local charities, altruism allows for society to function by helping those in
need. Individuals from lower social echelons endure

The length of five spaces in a scale is known as a perfect fifth (Shah 42). C major and A minor
start at the head of the circle (Shah 42). At the head of the circle going clockwise, notes rise at a
rate of fifths and do not stop until a limit of seven sharps is made (Shah 42). Going counter
clockwise, the notes go down at a rate for fourths until a limit of seven flats is met (Shah 42).
When the very end of the circle is reached, six flats and sharps will have overrun each other
(Shah 42). Also on the circle, one will begin at a certain pitch, skip twelve tones, and make it
back to the pitch they started with (Shah 43). Pitch is in relation to the wave s frequency

Thus, the theatre of Dionysus is regarded to be the birthplace of ancient drama. It is the
prototype of all of Greek theatres and it is the place that classical Greek plays have been first
presented to the audience. The first part of the theatre that has been built is the orchestra, namely
a 60 feet circular floor (Moretti 2000, 392 395). Afterwards, in the 5th century B. C. the theatre
served as the center of the plays contests and hence a wooden benches auditorium has been
constructed, whereas behind the orchestra a scene has been set. During the 4th century B. C.
wooden benches had been replaced by stone seats and the theatre could accommodate 17,000
spectators, whereas a stone scene has been constructed. In the period of the Roman Empire a
number of revisions took place (Travlos 1971, 537), but in the following years the theatre of
Dionysus fell into disuse and gradually it has been abandoned. In 1765 it has been rediscovered
and during the 19th century German archaeologists undertook a significant archaeological

Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi
While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in
youth psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became
interested in clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and
Behavior (YPB) laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college.
After learning the dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as
adolescent, social, developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal
relationships, personality, and mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my
experiences in undergraduate research. For example, I participated in my first independent research
experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research
Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted research in the clinical/community division of the
psychology department, and my research focused on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and
perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental health service impacted the magnitude
of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a wealth of information about
tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in the Statistical Package for
Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it catalyzed my progress as an
undergraduate researcher.
Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously

Code Of Conduct Of King Arthur And The Knights Of The...
They were not allowed to lay down arms and had to defend the defenseless. Along with seeking
wonders, they were not allowed to hurt anyone and had to refrain from attacking each other. They
had to fight for and give their lives for their country. They could not break faith and had to
practice religion with heroic effort. They had to be honest about their experience whether it be
honorable or disgraceful and they had to be hospitable to everyone by ability. The code of the
knights of the Round Tablewas known as Pentecostal oath and was used to swear in every Knight
every year at the time of Pentecost. The roundtable was also known as the order of chivalry in king
Arthurs court. After some time, every knight considered among the best and the bravest sought
admission to the most noble order of the Round Table. (Grosset ,Dunlap Maolry,King Arthur

is right and be honest. Because the Knight of the round table followed this code Camelot became

Global Warming And Its Effect On The Environment
On April 11, 2014, Cyclone Ita roared through Queensland, Australia leaving a trail of destruction
in its wake. One of the strongest Category 5 storms ever recorded, winds were recorded at over
110 miles per hour before landfall. While destruction in Queensland and the surrounding areas was
immense, the offshore damage to the Great Barrier Reef was catastrophic. Many places of the reef
were left with no living coral structures and entire portions of the ecosystem were erased from the
seabed (Zolfagharifard). Scientists explain that we can expect more intense storms such as Ita in the
future, explaining that warming is expected to make tropical cyclones (hurricanes) more intense

Cognitive Theories And Theories Of Psychology
INTRODUCTION There are many approaches that psychologists have developed in order to
understand certain behavior. The most common approaches in psychology are psychodynamic,
behavior, cognitive, humanistic, and biological approaches. The ultimate goal of each method is to
help individuals change unhealthy thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. However, these different
approaches use different techniques to form assumptions and explanations about abnormality. In
this essay, cognitive and psychodynamic are the two approaches that will be discussed. Even
though these two approaches have a few similarities, their differences are more obvious.
COGNITIVE APPROACH The cognitive theory approach explains that people s thoughts or beliefs
form certain behaviors and emotions. This theory was developed in the early 1960s, and it attempts
to describe the behavior of humans by studying thoughts and reasoning process (Beck 1995). The
automatic thoughts that we have about ourselves can affect emotions and self concept. Also, our
global assumptions about other people and the world can be either positive and helpful or negative
and destructive (Nolen Hoeksema 2014). The two founders of this view, Albert Ellis and Aaron
Beck, claimed the dysfunctional thinking that influences negative emotions and maladaptive
behavior is common to all psychological disturbances (Beck 1995). With cognitive therapy, the
therapist helps the patient identify and challenge their negative thoughts and dysfunctional

The Importance Of Ban Headscarves In Public Schools
Those in favor of the ban argue that bans are necessary to promote gender equality. Loenen points
out that, a major argument put forward to ban headscarves in public schools derives from the idea
that the headscarf is symbolic of the inferior position of women in Islam and that many girls and
women are pressured into wearing it . It is worthwhile to note here that the same argument was also
used by the ECtHR in Dahlab, where it held that the wearing of the headscarfwas hard to square
with, among others, the principle of gender equality . Furthering its view in Dahlab, in Sahin,
ECtHR held that the ban on the wearing of the Muslim headscarf at universities in Turkey served
the legitimate purpose, amongst others, of promoting gender equality. Vakulenko suggests that in
both these cases, the headscarf was attributed a highly abstract and essentialized meaning of a
religious item extremely detrimental to gender equality .
As far as the case law is concerned, another frequent argument raised in favor of the ban is that if
some women are allowed to wear the headscarf it would eventually impose a burden on the women
who choose not to wear it and, thus, they will be forced to wear it as well. In Karaduman , the
European Commission on Human Rights considered that the manifestations of a particular religion
without restrictions may constitute pressure on students who do not practice that religion or
those who adhere to another religion . In this case, a female Muslim applicant was refused a
qualification certificate (after successfully completing her course) because she refused to provide
an identity photograph without her headscarf. Weil writes that in schools where some girls are
wearing the headscarf, the Muslim girls who do not wear it are subject to strong pressure to do so
. He also reports that, in the increasing number of schools where girls wear the hijab, a strong
majority of Muslim girls who do not wear the headscarf called for the protection of the law and
asked the commission to ban all religious exterior signs . According to Weil, this pressure usually
comes from parents, extremist/fundamentalist groups and religious leaders. However, it is
important to keep in mind here that Weil himself admits

Athletes Deserve Their Money
The NCAA is an association for college athletes. As time has passed the NCAA has begun to
look and function like a business. This image has begun to create debates on whether college
athletes should be paid or not. The NCAA has generated a significant amount of money off of
the duties of college athletes. Therefore, since college athletes create a large sum of money for
the NCAA, it will only make sense that the college athletes receive money as well. College
athletes make plenty of money for the NCAA and they don t receive as much as they deserve.
Without the athletes, the NCAA would not be able to make TV deals nor generate any money at
all. The NCAA made $770 million in TV right deals alone off of the NCAA Basketball
Tournament, March Madness . How much of that money went to the athletes? None at all. The
NCAA makes money off the athletes in many other areas. John Brill, in his article Should College
Athletes be Paid? informs us that, The NCAA defies its own devotion to amateurism are the sale
of video game licenses, game merchandise, footage, etc. that provide direct profit for the
association. The NCAA is taking advantage of the gifted athletes for a couple years at time to
create a large amount of money that only benefits the NCAA and schools. Besides the NCAA using
the athletes to make money, the college athletes must put a lot of their time into the sport. It s not
fair for athletes to put their time into something that they will not be rewarded for. Student

The Theory of Reconsolidation
The Theory of Reconsolidation What is it and how can it impact on our lives?
Learning is a very important aspect of humans and creatures alike. Not only is it essential to the
survival and adaption into this world but it also defines who we are as individuals (Schiller et al,
2010; Tronson Taylor, 2007). Memories from past experiences shape the people that we are today.
A crucial element to learning is memory, without it we would not be able to retain information.
The process of memory is very distinct and consists of several different stages: acquisition of
memory, consolidation, retrieval and then either reconsolidation or extinction (Debiec Ledoux,
2004; Diergaarde, Schoffelmeer De Vries, 2008). As memory is such a critical aspect of learning,
it is no wonder that its distinct process has become the topic of much research in the
neurobiological universe (Hupbach et al, 2007; Nader Hardt, 2009).
After a new memory is learnt, it enters the process of encoding during which the memory is
labile and capable of disruption until it becomes stabilised over a period of time (Nader
Einarsson, 2010; Nader et al, 2000). This process is called consolidation and originally consisted
of the theory that once stabilised in the brain, it remains fixed (Suzuki et al, 2004). This theory has
been rebutted by the acceptance of reconsolidation, a theory that imposes the ideology that when

Puerto City Market History
Ponce City Market is a new development including retail, residential and commercial space that
repurposes the historic Sears Roebuck and Company building in the Old Fourth Ward district of
Atlanta.
The site has been in public use at least back to the 1860 s when it was a popular day trip for
Atlantans who wished to visit Ponce de Leon Springs for their reputed health benefits. The springs
on the site were named by Atlanta physician, Dr. Henry L. Wilson, for Juan Ponce de Leon, of
Fountain of Youth fame, and it is from these springs, rather than the Spanish explorer, that Ponce de
Leon Avenue takes its name. Over time additional attractions were built at the site to capitalize on
the popularity of the springs and in 1903 the construction of a true amusement park was begun.
Ponce de Leon Park remained a local attraction through the early 1920 s.
In 1924, the park now closed, Sears Roebuck and Company chose the site for their Southeastern
headquarters and began work on the current structure, completing the first phase in 1926. The
building is one of the largest in the South and is located on a sixteen acre site facing Ponce de
Leon Avenue. Sears closed their retail store on the site after more than fifty years but maintained
the building as a regional office until 1987.
Several years after Sears final departure, the City of Atlanta bought ... Show more content on

as well as shopping and other attractions. Additionally not all Ponce visitors drive to the site. There
is an entrance to the market on the Atlanta Beltline serving local joggers, walkers and bicyclists.
This entrance even features a bike valet service to secure these two wheeled vehicles during their

Type And Topology Of Lan
Type and topology of LAN
In the early beginnings of a Local Area Network consisted of mainframe computers and terminals.
Now networks consist of front ends which interface with the network, back ends take care of
requests by clients, clients are systems or applications that request services, Servers manage the
network and its resources, routers link the two or more networks together, and switches allow
multiple computers on a network interface to communicate. These are for small locations like an
office building.
A Hybrid topology can incorporate multiple topologies to give it other routes to travel. They can
use a central hub or switch using the unshielded twisted pair Ethernet cables for the Star topology.
They can have a backbone network using the Fiber Distributed Data Interface or FDDI.
They can also use the Wireless topology using access points as part of the hybrid topology. This
is a great feature for both employees and customers. The range is up to 100 meters and is fast
when needing to access applications. It uses the 2.4 and 5 GHz band. It is also cheap and cost
effective.
LAN cabling
The two types that can be use are the twisted pair and fiber optical cabling. There are two types
of twisted pair cables. They are shielded and unshielded Ethernet cables. They are copper wires
being twisted around to protect from emissions and noise. They are mainly used in an internal
network or office because it is cheaper and easier to install. They use an RJ45 connecter and

Marketing Principles Of A Successful Business
In a world where we re always wanting more, and what we have never seems to be enough. One
desires more, once basic needs are fulfilled. Human needs are basic requirements for maintaining
life, such as, air, food, water, shelter, and clothing. Wants are comforting and pleasurable. Wants
are the desires that are not essential to life, but makes life a little more enjoyable. Both are
unlimited and endless. The economy devotes business to satisfy one s wants, because ones basic
needs are fulfilled. Although, a person needs have been fulfilled one desires more. Needs, wants,
and demands are a part of marketingprinciples businesses use to obtain data. In order for businesses
to make a profit, consumers must spend. A successful business, pays attention to market research,
surveys, reviews, and feedback. In order to reinvent and improve the business to satisfy consumers
wants. From marketing strategies, racy advertising, colorful bright billboards, to repetitive
commercials. All intended to catch one s eye and desire it, desire the needto have it, and most
importantly buy it. US is the largest producer of goods and services in the world, leaving us
Americans as the leading consumer. Businesses thrive if we buy their products, and that is how the
economy flourishes. Consistently creating a demand through superficial items, that consumers
love. Why buy or drink plain filtered water when one can drink Evian water? Why buy regular,
plain toothpaste when one can have whitening

Proximal Convoluted Tubule Structure
Describe the structure and location of the proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henle, distal
convoluted tubule, collecting duct, and papillary duct. The proximal convoluted tubule measures
approximately 14 mm long and 60 Ојm in diameter. Simple cuboidal epithelium makes up its wall.
The cells rest on a basement membrane, which forms the outer surface of the tubule. The loops of
Henle are continuations of the proximal convoluted tubules. Each loop has two limbs: the
descending limb and the ascending limb. The first part of the descending limb is similar in structure
to the proximal convoluted tubules. The loops of Henle that extend into the medulla become very
thin near the end of the loop. The lumen in the thin part narrows, and an abrupt transition

Description Of The Coypu ( Myocastor Coypus )
INTRODUCTION: The Coypu (Myocastor coypus) is a large, robust, semi aquatic rat like
rodent and a casual observer may misidentify a Coypu as a beaver or a muskrat, especially when
it is swimming. However, this superficial resemblance ends when a more detailed study of the
animal is made (LeBlanc. 2005). The average size of the head and body is 52cm with the length
of the tail being an additional 37cm. The body is highly arched with a large almost triangular
head. The Incisors are large with an orange pigmented surface. The Coypu s pelage contains two
types of fur; soft dense under fur and long coarse guard hairs, varying in colour from yellowish
brown to reddish brown. The under fur is dark grey and is thicker on the abdomen (Gosling.
1981). The legs are short, with the hind feet being significantly longer than the forefeet, and
possess five digits; the first four are connected by webbing and the fifth is free. The forefeet
have four long, flexible digits with no webbing and a vestigial thumb. Because of their dexterous
forepaws, coypu can excavate soil to construct sometimes complex burrow systems within
riparian areas and handle very small food items (Woods et al. 1992; D Elia, 1999). The tail is
long and rounded with a scaly texture and scantily haired (D Elia. 1999). In addition to having
webbed hind feet, coypu have several other adaptations conducive to their semi aquatic lifestyle.
The eyes, ears, and nostrils of coypu are set high on their heads. Furthermore,

Anne Hutchinson And The Puritan Movement
Anne Hutchinson was a religious leader who was born in England in 1951. She was killed in
1643 in an Indian raid killing in the state of New York which wss in the colony of Mid Atlantic.
Anne Hutchinson fought for women s rights and she gave many girls and women hope that they
might have rights again as shown by this quote, From the early Christian era, female activism in
religious life gave some women high visibility, thus preserving their voices in the historical record.
The splintering of the Puritanmovement in seventeenth century England gave women broader
scope for leadership as lay preachers, visionaries, and petitioners. ( History.Com ). This quote

She was a leading figure in the fight for religious tolerance in Massachusetts. After being banished,
she fled to Rhode Island where she helped establish religious tolerance in that colony. ( E notes,
The scarlet letter ) This quote says that she moved to Rhode Island after she got banished and she
was doing the same thing in Rhode Island and showing other people her views and what she
believed in. Anne had meetings at her house every sunday with only ladies, so that she could share
with them how she felt and the way she thought that her theological beliefs could come true and
have women have rights. After Anne got banished from Massachusetts Bay Colony she came to
New York and she later got killed by six Indian men.
Hutchinson was not only famous for her religious beliefs and fighting for them but she was also
famous for the way John Winthrop portrayed her in his journals that he wrote. The way that John
Winthrop portrayed her in he diaries made it sound as if she was a legend and that is the way that
many people saw her after that, many people thought that she was invincible and that she could not
be stopped at what she believed in. This quote I found showed that many people respected her and
what she thought To 19th century America, she was a crusader for religious

  • 3. Essay On The Nomination Process Nonetheless, the difference in party alignment has clear implications for the nomination process. During the nomination process, you are facing other members of your party to fight for the single nomination for the general election. This means you have to fight over voters with quite similar ideologies. This would exclude the extreme number of people from the other party, and perhaps many people who are in the middle and cannot decide which way to lean yet. Due to this, candidates must strategize their rhetoric and conduct to appeal to the most extreme members of the party. Studies have shown that the people who vote in primary electionsare in general more highly educated, and indicate more party activism/pride (Lecture Notes). For as long as this process has seemed to get the job done, people this election cycle have been curious if certain changes could be made to the nomination process that would allow for more suitable candidates in the future, especially considering the displeasure of this current elections ... Street Dreams And Hip Hop Barber Shops Summary Brad Weiss s ethnographic research on popular culture, hanging out in barbershops and bus stands, seamstress tables and video halls, was carried out in the northern Tanzanian city of Arusha. In Street Dreams and Hip Hop Barber Shops Weiss does a great job observing the everyday life of the people in Arusha. He explores how globalization and neoliberalism affect the mindset of a community and shows the reader how gender role, media, and self fashioning can play a big role in a person life. Brad Weiss does a great job showing the reader that barbershops around Tanzaniaare more than just a place for getting a haircut. He explains to the reader in great detail that the people of Tanzania see barbershops as a place for obtaining news, catching up on the latest trends, gossip, discovering new music, or just simply hanging out. Barbershops provide men with a chance , an opportunity or a place during times of uncertainty. Weiss spends most of his time at barbershops because it is a great place for studying popular culture and allows him to see what the clients at these barber shops find interesting. • 8. Traveling Through The Dark And Woodchucks Analysis Exploring the interaction between animals and humans, the poems Traveling through the Dark and Woodchucks both analyze this relationship with unique insightfulness. William Stafford, the author of Traveling through the Dark, depicts an accidental encounter with a dead deer on the road, while Maxine Kumin, the author of Woodchucks, invites the readers to witness a hateful holocaust against woodchucks. Although focusing on similar topics with regard to human s reaction towards the death of animals, Traveling through the Dark and Woodchucks display a solid contrast of their use of syntax, distinguished by the complexity of their language, and the focus of their main themes, which reveals the two author s different attitudes on men and the nature. To begin with, Stafford applies relatively simple grammatical structures and sentence types, while in contrast Kumin uses complex syntax as the major attribute of his poem. In Traveling through the Dark, Stafford depicts a scenario involving a man encountering a dead animal in the darkness, as he writes that Traveling through the dark I found a deer / dead on the edge of the Wilson River road, a simple statement that directly contextualizes the scenario that the narrator discovered a dead deer on the road (1 2). In specific, the sentences in the poem lack complicated layers of grammatical structure, but instead their composition style is close to colloquial, evident by statements like I found a deer and I dragged ... Taylorism Theory Of Scientific Management Many theorists have influenced and demonstrated certain ideas and concepts that influence the social and psychological factors in an organisational management. Taylorism theory of scientific management developed techniques for improving the efficiency of the work process. The scientific management approach revolves around the idea of arranging for work to accomplish proficiency, institutionalization, specialization, and improvement. With Taylor s scientific approach decisions are based on science or exact measurements. Taylor s theory decreased its role dramatically in the event of being questioned whether scientific managementwas efficient. The human relation school of management thought developed due to the flaws in the assumptions of the Taylorism theory. Taylorism was inclined towards efficiency, process and principle, however critiques felt human behavior was neglected. Organisations should take initiative in helping employees adjust to organisational life by nurturing cooperative systems between labour and management. Finally, this essay will reveal the evolution from Taylor s scientific principles of management to Elton Mayo s Human Relation School of Thought as employee well being and motivation has been given more recognition over the course of time. We should not see the ghostly presence inside Grace in exclusively negative terms: as a demon to be exorcised, a disorder to be cured. We should also see it as a survival strategy. The person talking through Grace s mouth during the hypnosis scene quite literally defends and protects Grace when she tells the audience that Grace is not guilty of the murders because she knew nothing about them. This person also enables Grace to insulate her mindagainst the memory of traumatic experiences, and provides her with an outlet for her feelings of jealousy and rage, primarily against Nancy, that Grace more or less represses in her own person. Moreover, the Mary inside Grace turns the tables on the male victimizers with the help of her host s body. Grace can maintain her own sanity and identity only at the cost of splitting in two, of relegating some of her memories and actions to a second person, who turns out to be a murderer. This person, intruding ghost or self created alter, is alias Grace ; she is the same woman as Grace Marks in the sense that she shares some of the experiences and motives of the latter, and she is a different person in the sense that Grace Marks is not aware of her (Niederhoff 79). Because of the continuously expanding horizons of Apple, its list of competitors seems to grow more and more as the company moves forward. For example, other companies in the business of selling personal computers based on different operating systems have aggressively cut prices and lowered their product margins to gain or maintain market share. It is widely known that Apple s market share in the digital music industry is far more dominant compared to any other competitor in that market, hence that shouldn t even be considered a market where Apple faces fierce competition. We must mention Apple s step into the mobile communications market with their revolutionary product, the iPhone. • 23. The Original Position and the Veil of Ignorance Political philosopher John Rawls believed that in order for society to function properly, there needs to be a social contract, which defines justice as fairness . Rawls believed that the social contract be created from an original position in which everyone decides on the rules for society behind a veil of ignorance. In this essay, it will be argued that the veil of ignorance is an important feature of the original position. First, the essay will describe what the veil of ignorance is. Secondly, it will look at what Rawls means by the original position. Thirdly, it will look at why the veil of ignorance is an important feature of the original position. Overall, the goal of the original position is to find out a fair and equal way to achieve the principles of justice. Why is The Veil of Ignorance an Important Feature of The Original Position? The main goal of the original position is to set up a impartial procedure so that any principle agreed to will be fair and just (Rawls, 1971). In order to create principles that are fair and just, people must nullify the effects of specific contingencies which put men at odds and tempt them to exploit social and natural circumstances to their own advantage. (Rawls, 1971, 136) In order to do this effectively, Rawls argues that the parties involved have to be situated behind a veil of ignorance (Rawls, 1971). Without being behind the veil of ignorance, and if a knowledge of particulars is allowed, then the outcome is biased by arbitrary contingencies. (Rawls, 1971, 141) Therefore, the restrictions on the particular knowledge in the original position are of fundamental importance (Rawls, 1971). Without the original position, the parties involved would not be able to work out any definite principles of justice (Rawls, 1971). The society who does not enact a social contract from the original position would then have to be content with a vague understanding of justice and therefore have very little substance to the agreement itself (Rawls, 1971). The veil of ignorance makes it possible to have a unanimous choice of a particular conception of justice (Rawls, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Well-Known Story Of Narcissistic Myth The etiology of what is known today as Narcissistic Personality Disorder can be traced back to a time in which humans struggled to identify and define themselves in the world. The well known story of narcissus, for whom the term Narcissism and Narcissistic Personality Disorder is named after, first emerged around 8 A.D. The story goes into depth of how Narcissus, a Thespian, the son of the nymph Leiriope, developed a tenacious pride in his own beauty. A roman poet named Ovid tells the story of how Narcissus became fascinated and entranced by his own beautiful appearance in a clear spring for hours at a time in his narrative Metamorphoses. In Robert Grave s version of the story, The Greek Myths, he summarizes how Narcissus was pursued by heartlessly rejected lovers of both sexes and turned all of them down because he favored himself more (1955). Graves elaborated on how Narcissus rejected Echo, whom was a suitor. As professed to his mother by a famous seer, Narcissus will live to a ripe old age provided that he never knows himself (Graves, 1955). • 27. Relationship Between Vivian And Molly In any genuine friendship there are the differences between the people that spark curiosity, yet, it is similarities that draw two together to form a tight bond. This is evident in the friendship that starts between Vivian and Molly. Vivian, from outward show, does not display the slightest similarity with Molly. It is not until one examines the often tragic back stories of both that striking parallels begin to be made clear. By the time all is uncovered, the likenesses shared between Vivian and Molly far outweigh any disparities. In examining the relationship between Vivian and Molly, a perfect balance is struck in Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. In Orphan Train, Christina Baker Kline weaves a strong friendship between two characters, Vivian and Molly, despite a lengthy list of differences. The most blatant contrast, and the root cause of many other differences, is age and the separate eras both Vivian and Molly grow up in. In the span of her life, Vivian Nielsen, a ninety one year old widow, experiences the Great Depression, World War II, and a technology boom impossible to keep up with. On the other hand, Molly Ayer is a sixteen year old tech savvy foster child who uses her Goth persona like armor against an unsympathetic society (Kline 4). Another dissimilarity is ethnicity. Vivian is a first generation Irish immigrant and in being a Penobscot Native American Indian, Molly is unable to be more different than Vivian. While these differences seem apparent, the ... To me a witness is someone who tells a story in hopes of finding truth and finding peace. A witness mean someone who is willing to listen to people tell theirs stories and continue to tell those stories when other people are no longer able to. While visiting the AfricaBurial Grounds going through the different exhibits, I came across a quote that I believe describes in perfect detail what a witnessis. I m for truth no matter who tells it, I m for justice no matter who it is for or against. I m a human being first and foremost, and as such I m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity (Malcolm X). I believe that a witness s job is to tell the truth regardless of whom that truth will affect. We as people have the obligation to other human beings to be just and tell their stories, and fight for them when they are not able to. While visit the African Burial Grounds I considered my self to be witness what these people went through. Throughout the museum there were different stories that depicted tremendous suffering. There was a particular picture that stood out to me and it was of when African Americans were taken from Africa to be transported to the United States. According to Judith Warner, a New York Times journalist who specializes in psychology, the charitable giving deficit is due to the lack of empathy towards the hardships of the poor among their rich counterparts (Warner 2). In light of this, it is important to determine how socioeconomic background influences donation patterns in order to bridge the charitable giving gap. Altruistic behaviors in their quintessential form are selflessly motivated prosocial actions; they influence virtually all human interactions. In America, altruism is ostensibly embodied in the giving patterns of wealthy philanthropists who have a history of creating endowments and donating assets to higher education and other charitable programs. However, in reality, the lower and middle classes account for most of the charitable giving in America. Furthermore, altruism is identified with prosocial behavior, or actions that benefit society as a whole, in sociological interactions. Individuals who come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more altruistic because their increased empathy for human welfare and intrinsic self transcendent value systems motivate them to give more readily. • 37. Cognitive Theories And Theories Of Psychology INTRODUCTION There are many approaches that psychologists have developed in order to understand certain behavior. The most common approaches in psychology are psychodynamic, behavior, cognitive, humanistic, and biological approaches. The ultimate goal of each method is to help individuals change unhealthy thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. However, these different approaches use different techniques to form assumptions and explanations about abnormality. In this essay, cognitive and psychodynamic are the two approaches that will be discussed. Even though these two approaches have a few similarities, their differences are more obvious. COGNITIVE APPROACH The cognitive theory approach explains that people s thoughts or beliefs form certain behaviors and emotions. This theory was developed in the early 1960s, and it attempts to describe the behavior of humans by studying thoughts and reasoning process (Beck 1995). The automatic thoughts that we have about ourselves can affect emotions and self concept. Also, our global assumptions about other people and the world can be either positive and helpful or negative and destructive (Nolen Hoeksema 2014). • 38. The Importance Of Ban Headscarves In Public Schools Those in favor of the ban argue that bans are necessary to promote gender equality. Loenen points out that, a major argument put forward to ban headscarves in public schools derives from the idea that the headscarf is symbolic of the inferior position of women in Islam and that many girls and women are pressured into wearing it . It is worthwhile to note here that the same argument was also used by the ECtHR in Dahlab, where it held that the wearing of the headscarfwas hard to square with, among others, the principle of gender equality . Furthering its view in Dahlab, in Sahin, ECtHR held that the ban on the wearing of the Muslim headscarf at universities in Turkey served the legitimate purpose, amongst others, of promoting gender equality. Vakulenko suggests that in both these cases, the headscarf was attributed a highly abstract and essentialized meaning of a religious item extremely detrimental to gender equality . As far as the case law is concerned, another frequent argument raised in favor of the ban is that if some women are allowed to wear the headscarf it would eventually impose a burden on the women who choose not to wear it and, thus, they will be forced to wear it as well. In Karaduman , the European Commission on Human Rights considered that the manifestations of a particular religion without restrictions may constitute pressure on students who do not practice that religion or those who adhere to another religion . In this case, a female Muslim applicant was refused a qualification certificate (after successfully completing her course) because she refused to provide an identity photograph without her headscarf. Weil writes that in schools where some girls are wearing the headscarf, the Muslim girls who do not wear it are subject to strong pressure to do so . He also reports that, in the increasing number of schools where girls wear the hijab, a strong majority of Muslim girls who do not wear the headscarf called for the protection of the law and asked the commission to ban all religious exterior signs . According to Weil, this pressure usually comes from parents, extremist/fundamentalist groups and religious leaders. However, it is important to keep in mind here that Weil himself admits ... Therefore, since college athletes create a large sum of money for the NCAA, it will only make sense that the college athletes receive money as well. College athletes make plenty of money for the NCAA and they don t receive as much as they deserve. Without the athletes, the NCAA would not be able to make TV deals nor generate any money at all. • 41. The Theory of Reconsolidation The Theory of Reconsolidation What is it and how can it impact on our lives? Learning is a very important aspect of humans and creatures alike. Not only is it essential to the survival and adaption into this world but it also defines who we are as individuals (Schiller et al, 2010; Tronson Taylor, 2007). Memories from past experiences shape the people that we are today. A crucial element to learning is memory, without it we would not be able to retain information. The process of memory is very distinct and consists of several different stages: acquisition of memory, consolidation, retrieval and then either reconsolidation or extinction (Debiec Ledoux, 2004; Diergaarde, Schoffelmeer De Vries, 2008). As memory is such a critical aspect of learning, it is no wonder that its distinct process has become the topic of much research in the neurobiological universe (Hupbach et al, 2007; Nader Hardt, 2009). After a new memory is learnt, it enters the process of encoding during which the memory is labile and capable of disruption until it becomes stabilised over a period of time (Nader Einarsson, 2010; Nader et al, 2000). This process is called consolidation and originally consisted of the theory that once stabilised in the brain, it remains fixed (Suzuki et al, 2004). This theory has been rebutted by the acceptance of reconsolidation, a theory that imposes the ideology that when memories are retrieved, through similar experiences (Lee, 2009), they become labile until, ... • 42. Puerto City Market History Ponce City Market is a new development including retail, residential and commercial space that repurposes the historic Sears Roebuck and Company building in the Old Fourth Ward district of Atlanta. The site has been in public use at least back to the 1860 s when it was a popular day trip for Atlantans who wished to visit Ponce de Leon Springs for their reputed health benefits. The springs on the site were named by Atlanta physician, Dr. Henry L. Wilson, for Juan Ponce de Leon, of Fountain of Youth fame, and it is from these springs, rather than the Spanish explorer, that Ponce de Leon Avenue takes its name. Over time additional attractions were built at the site to capitalize on the popularity of the springs and in 1903 the construction of a true amusement park was begun. Ponce de Leon Park remained a local attraction through the early 1920 s. In 1924, the park now closed, Sears Roebuck and Company chose the site for their Southeastern headquarters and began work on the current structure, completing the first phase in 1926. The building is one of the largest in the South and is located on a sixteen acre site facing Ponce de Leon Avenue. Sears closed their retail store on the site after more than fifty years but maintained the building as a regional office until 1987. Several years after Sears final departure, the City of Atlanta bought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And there are many pedestrians. Now networks consist of front ends which interface with the network, back ends take care of requests by clients, clients are systems or applications that request services, Servers manage the network and its resources, routers link the two or more networks together, and switches allow multiple computers on a network interface to communicate. These are for small locations like an office building. A Hybrid topology can incorporate multiple topologies to give it other routes to travel. They can use a central hub or switch using the unshielded twisted pair Ethernet cables for the Star topology. They can have a backbone network using the Fiber Distributed Data Interface or FDDI. They can also use the Wireless topology using access points as part of the hybrid topology. This is a great feature for both employees and customers. The range is up to 100 meters and is fast when needing to access applications. It uses the 2.4 and 5 GHz band. It is also cheap and cost effective. LAN cabling The two types that can be use are the twisted pair and fiber optical cabling. There are two types of twisted pair cables. They are shielded and unshielded Ethernet cables. They are copper wires being twisted around to protect from emissions and noise. They are mainly used in an internal network or office because it is cheaper and easier to install. The proximal convoluted tubule measures approximately 14 mm long and 60 Ојm in diameter. Simple cuboidal epithelium makes up its wall. The cells rest on a basement membrane, which forms the outer surface of the tubule. The loops of Henle are continuations of the proximal convoluted tubules. • 47. Description Of The Coypu ( Myocastor Coypus ) INTRODUCTION: The Coypu (Myocastor coypus) is a large, robust, semi aquatic rat like rodent and a casual observer may misidentify a Coypu as a beaver or a muskrat, especially when it is swimming. However, this superficial resemblance ends when a more detailed study of the animal is made (LeBlanc. 2005). The average size of the head and body is 52cm with the length of the tail being an additional 37cm. The body is highly arched with a large almost triangular head. The Incisors are large with an orange pigmented surface. The Coypu s pelage contains two types of fur; soft dense under fur and long coarse guard hairs, varying in colour from yellowish brown to reddish brown. The under fur is dark grey and is thicker on the abdomen (Gosling. 1981). The legs are short, with the hind feet being significantly longer than the forefeet, and possess five digits; the first four are connected by webbing and the fifth is free. The forefeet have four long, flexible digits with no webbing and a vestigial thumb. Because of their dexterous forepaws, coypu can excavate soil to construct sometimes complex burrow systems within riparian areas and handle very small food items (Woods et al. 1992; D Elia, 1999). The tail is long and rounded with a scaly texture and scantily haired (D Elia. 1999). In addition to having webbed hind feet, coypu have several other adaptations conducive to their semi aquatic lifestyle. The eyes, ears, and nostrils of coypu are set high on their heads. Furthermore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
