The Theme of Hope in One Day in the Life of Ivan...
The Theme of Hope in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
In Alexander Solzhenitsyn s novel One Day in the Life of
Ivan Denisovich, the strong themes of hope and perseverance are
undercut by the realization that for Ivan there is little or no
purpose in life. This is not to say that the themes of hope and
perseverance do not exist in the novel. There are numerous
instances in the novel where Shukhov is filled with hope.
However, these moments of hope amidst the banal narrative of the
novel raise the interesting question: Are these moments of hope
pointless? The answer to this question may lie more in the
individual human nature of the reader than in Solzhenitsyn s

Much of the Soviet leadership despised
Solzhenitsyn because he instilled within the Soviet people much
of the same hope that is visible in Ivan Denisovich Shukhov.
Solzhenitsyn gave people hope:
Solzhenitsyn s literary mission, the process of giving
voice to the tens of millions of victims of Soviet
terror, went on secretly, even collectively. Much of
Gulag was based on the hundreds of letters and memoirs
that former prisoners mailed to Solzhenitsyn after One
Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich was published.
Andropov had an intuitive sense that this new work
could do as much, in its way, to undermine Soviet power
as all the nuclear arsenals in the West. (Remnick 118)
Solzhenitsyn uses the every day occurrences of Ivan Denisovich
Shukhov s life to accentuate this point about humanity.
Shukhov s day began with reveille. Shukhov never slept through
reveille but always got up at once. That gave him about an hour
and a half to himself before the morning roll call (Solzhenitsyn
1). This short amount of time at the beginning of the day was
precious because it was the only time during the day, except for
a few minutes in the evening, that the prisoners had to
themselves. This short amount of time provided hope for the
prisoners in a number of ways. It was a time when anyone who
knew what was what in the camps could always scrounge

Frank was a small kid and throughout his life would always have someone else fight his battles for
him. He was always a below average student and eventually dropped out of AJ Demarest High School
after only showing up for 47 days. His mother, who could make Frank do anything for her, convinced
him to go to business school which ended after 11 months. He knew from a young age that music
instead of school was his calling. Frank s interesting in performing music began at a very young age.
Growing up he would sing at his family functions or at his parents tavern to get some spare change.
When he was finally old enough to get a real job, he began trying to sing on radio shows before his
mother convinced a local singing group to take him on. Sinatra never learned how to read music, he
would just listen and learn everything by ear. This group would go on to win a contest which awarded
them a six month gig singing around the country and on the radio. This band s success landed Sinatra
a job as a singing waiter at The Rustic Cabin which was a popular dining spot. During his time here he
married his wife Nancy, who his mother did not approve of. This job got him a recording spot the
radio show The Dance Parade where he recorded his first song Our Love . This song caught

Factors Affecting The Life Expectancy Of Haiti
Main Factors Affecting the life Expectancy of Haiti
Over the years as the medical technologies advance, the expected length of the human life of many
countries has also increased. Along with the technologies, many countries also have better privileges
over others. Canada is one of the more fortunate countries, in which the citizens has many advantages
in their daily life, whereas Haiti is the opposite. According to online statistics, Haiti currently has an
average life expectancy of 64.14 years, whereas Canada s average life expectancy is at a much higher
age of 81.93 years. The drastic difference between the two countries is the result of many unresolved
issues in Haiti, such as poverty and lack of education, the lack and limited access to food and clean
water, as well as the remaining issues from the earthquake in 2010.
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. Most citizens lives in constant poverty as 60 percent
of the population lives with less than a dollar a day, causing an extremely high poverty rate of 77
percent. This issue will have likely caused many citizens to ignore the fact to remain healthy, since

Narrative Descriptive Personal Narrative
It was around 3:30 on a cold winter afternoon, and my brother and I pull up into the Highschool
parking lot. As he pulled up to the door of the school, I thanked him for the ride and he sped off to
return home. I opened up the doors of the school, and worked my way down the steps, to the wrestling
room to weigh in, and wait to leave. As upon entering, I was greeted by other wrestlers roaming the
hallways. As I entered, I threw my things down next to someone and sat down. With the butterflies in
my stomach starting to emerge, I was still content. The group of us sat in the large room joking
around, and talking. Then it was all stunned to a halt when my coach yelled at us to listen up. He

That is unit i realized that he would have to wrestle varsity to fill the weight class. Now I was a little
weary about the future. When Lucas came up to me and asked if I was wrestling anyone, I told him no
more to convince myself and stop my never ending worrying. After sitting in the locker room for
twenty minutes we went out into the big gym. On the bleachers, the group of us pulled out a big snack
and began eating away our hunger. Meanwhile my coach went over to meet with the Union grove
team to figure out matches. With only one person in my weight class, and he s wrestling varsity I had
little probability to wrestle. After we were done eating, the JV started to warm up. With a few stretches
and rough moves. We gathered to see if who was going to wrestle. With little chance of wrestling I
was astounded when My coach said I was wrestling. At that moment nervousness filled my body. My
coach explained to me that I was wrestling someone two weight classes above mine. Starting with the
lower weights, matches began. I was the eighth match out of nine matches. I sat down to try and
gather myself and think of how the match would go. Before I knew it, four matches had occurred
before me. At that point my coach told me to start walking around and warming up once again. I had
one of my teammates come over and stretch me out. Also like before the time had flown by, and my

African American Vernacular English Language Essay
African American Vernacular English African American Vernacular English can be described as an
assortment of American English that is mostly used by urban working class and mostly bi dialectical
middle class black Americans. The language is also commonly known as Black Vernacular English or
Black English. In some cases, particularly outside the academic community, it is referred to as
Ebonics given its distinctive features and similarities with other non standard English varieties. The
similarities with other varieties are evident when compared to various standard and non standard
English languages that are commonly used in the United States and the Caribbean. In the past few
years, African American Vernacular English has been the subject of various public debates and
attracted considerable attention among sociolinguists. This paper examines the development of this
language, its distinctive features, cultural context, and socio economic implications of the use of
African American Vernacular English.
Roots of African American Vernacular English The history and origin of African American Vernacular
English and other varieties associated with it has been an issue of increased controversy (Sidnell, n.d.).
However, the roots of this language were undoubtedly established in the rural South whereas its 20th
Century development as a socio cultural variety is strongly linked to its use in non Southern urban
regions. In essence, the emergence of urban Black English is a

the articles showed a positive association between caffeinated energy drink and strength. The
ingestion of caffeine 3 6mg per body weight proved to enhance the strength of players and improved
their performance. The athletes should not intake more than 6mg per body weight as it can lead to

Difference Between Progressive Movement And Populist Movement
Both the progressive and populist movements felt that the way the current industrial society was set up

into what kind of areas they took place in, and what specifically they were trying to change. The
populist movement started out as the Farmers Alliance in the 1870s, and began moving throughout the
south and west mostly in rural areas such as farms. They pursued many reforms in that times society
such as education funding, infrastructure, workplace reform and support of agriculture. One person

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using Refracting Telescopes
Refraction of light through different media
Light travels in waves through space in straight lines. In a vacuum the speed of light is 3x10⁸m/s,
when light travels through different substances called mediums, it will change speed depending on the
optical density. If light travels through a medium at a right angle, it s velocity will change but not the
direction. However if light enters the medium at an angle, it s direction and speed will change.
The index of refraction is the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the speed of light in the
medium: n = c / v n = the medium c = the speed of light in a vacuum v = speed of light in a medium
(The index of refraction does not use any units)
For example, the refractive index of air is 1 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Refracting telescopes are more reliable because they are permanently fixed which in turn makes the
images produced steadier and clearer
Disadvantages of Refracting telescopes
There are many disadvantages when using refracting telescopes. One of which is chromatic aberration.
Chromatic Aberration happens when light travel through the glass lens and the different colours that
make up white light refract at different angles. This causes the observer to see a rainbow around the
image they are viewing.
One way to counteract the effects of chromatic aberration is to use multiple compensating lenses.
Another way to avoid chromatic aberration is to use a long object focal length this is the distance
between the focus and the objective
Another disadvantage is the difficulty of making the lenses. The objective lens need to have no
imperfections and the shape of the lens is thicker in the center and thunder on the edges which are the
only support_ hoch manes the lens v ey fragile on the edges and are more susceptible to damage
the largest objective lens for a refracting telescope is only 1 meter in

Step 2: Measure Actual Performance. Supervisors collect data to measure actual performance to
determine variation from standard. Written data might include time cards, production tallies,
inspection reports, and sales tickets. Personal observation, statistical reports, oral reports and written
reports can be used to measure performance. Management by walking around, or observation of
employees working, provides unfiltered information, extensive coverage, and the ability to read
between the lines. While providing insight, this method might be misinterpreted by employees as
mistrust. Oral reports allow for fast and extensive feedback.
In Taj computers give supervisors direct access to real time, unaltered data, and information. On line
systems enable supervisors to identify problems as they occur. Database programs allow supervisors
to query, spend less time gathering facts, and be less dependent on other people. Supervisors have
access to information at their fingertips. Employees can supply progress reports through the use of
networks and electronic mail. Statistical reports are easy to visualize and effective at demonstrating
relationships. Written reports provide comprehensive feedback that can be easily filed and referenced.
Computers are important tools for measuring performance. In fact, many operating processes depend

What did meet with considerable success was the formation of local Volunteer Training Corps . We
have become very familiar with the BBC Television programme Dad s Army based on the exploits of
the Home Guard during the Second World War. What is not so well known is that almost a quarter of a
century earlier, there was a similar organisation formed during the 1914 1918 War.
These Volunteer Training Corps (VTCs) were formed all over Britain and consisted mainly of men
who were rather too old for military service and those who suffered from some trivial medical
disability. Rules were set in London by the Central Association of Volunteer Training Corps

The easier Chi flows through houses, the wealthier families would be. Also, 2 other fundamental
principles of Feng Shui encompass the harmony of Yin Yang and rule of 5 elements. Yin and Yang, on
one hand, represent 2 opposite but intertwined forces of nature: Feminine (passive energy) and
Masculine (active energy). A good Yin Yang application might include strong/bright colors in mixture
with calm/lighter ones in house painting, adding decoration items with soft features to abate the
intensity of Yang dominated rooms. On the other hand, 5 element rule concentrates on 5 key
components of life: Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth. The integration of these 5 elements in each
part of the house is encouraged but not compulsory, though it would create balance within it.
According to Carol Olmstead a professional Feng Shui practitioner, besides these 3 basic principles,
there are also 2 other rules: The Bagua and Continuity Connectedness, as we will discuss later in next

What Are The Effects Of The Stamp Act
In early spring of 1765, Prime Minister Grenville introduced the Stamp Act. As a direct tax on the
colonists, the Stamp Act stipulated that anyone who used or purchased anything printed on paper had
to buy a revenue stamp for it and these included items such as newspapers, legal documents, and
playing cards. In a sense, the Stamp Act affected every level of society; landowners, merchants,
printers, and sailors were all required to pay taxes for the printed papers they used. The Stamp Act was
not welcomed with open arms in the colonists because it raised constitutional issues that initiated the
first serious protests against British imperial policy. The colonists felt, compared to their counterparts
in Britain, the British Parliament wasn t treating them fairly. The British colonists in America felt
deprived of the rights they enjoyed as British subjects such as the right to representation. Per the
unwritten British Constitution, only representatives for whom British subjects voted could tax them .
Although the British Parliament imposed taxes and was the representative body of the colonists, the
colonists did not have actual or direct representation in it. Proponents of the Stamp Act in the British

Fast Food Nation By Eric Schlosser
Meat Packers or Criminals Slaughter houses started in urban areas close to the railroads and shipping
ports. Cattle and other livestock arrived by railroad. After the animals were slaughtered, they would be
shipped to meat counters around the country and overseas. In his book Fast Food Nation, Eric
Schlosser writes about the changes in the meatpacking industry. Among those changes, Schlosser
explains, Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) changed the entire meatpacking industry by turning the business of
slaughtering animals into an assembly line. Meatpacking no longer requires skilled workers because
each employee is only responsible for one small part of the whole; therefore, training an employee is
easy and inexpensive (153). The meat packing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The top four meatpacking businesses hold 20 percent of the nation s cattle in company owned feedlots
or cattle bought before hand, sometimes using secret pricing contracts (138). These farmers are doing
everything they can to make a living. This includes rotation practices that big companies would never
care about. Small business today is changing from a mentality of all success and forget about the
consequences; to a more earth friendly thought process that asks how the company can do business
longer. Schlosser writes, the small rancher today has more in common with environmentalist than they
do with huge cattle lots and meat packers (134). Small ranchers invest in the land and need to preserve
it to continue just making a living not a profit. Schlosser explains,
Hank was practicing a form of range management inspired by the grazing patterns of elk and buffalo
herds, animals who d lived for millennia on this short grass prairie. His ranch was divided into thirty
five separate pastures. His cattle spent ten or eleven days in one pasture, then were moved to the next,
allowing the native plants, the blue grama and buffalo grass, time to recover (134).

Insider s Theory Of Religion
Religion Explained has a bold title for a bold claim. Pascal Boyer believes he has solved why religion
is what it is, and why it came into existence. He faces challenges by leaving gaps in his argument.
Rituals and belief are left unexplainable, leaving room for the criticism of an insider v. outsider
situation. Yet, even with these gaps, he states that religion is simply a byproduct of mental inference

outsider issue is a problem that has come up in every session of this class. Smith could see that the
outsider could only get into half of his proposal for sure (tradition), and only study the acts of faith not
faith itself. In the WPR reenactment, there were constant battles between practitioners being outsiders
to other religions. A complete outsider, a scholar, was able to bring almost unanimous unity to the
parliament, but at the cost of watering down some of the faiths. In the real WPR, they came to the
consensus of no consensus where Richard Seager argues plurality develops in that conclusion. Boyer,
on the other hand, believes an outsider will find that quite a lot of what [people] do and think can be
observed outside if these groups. He then goes on to say that groups of people have many norms and
practices that are specific to that group. Religion can provide (and has provided) terms to create
groups, like he is referring to. How can one understand and observe what people, who practice the
religion, cannot explain? This is where he believes that by examining the brain, even an outsider can
see into a religious person s reason, and outsiders can come up with explanations of why that the

The Endless Cycle Of Recidivism
The Endless Cycle of Recidivism Recidivism is such a significant problem here in New Mexico.
Many tend to throw it off and label it just a prison problem. But in all reality and factuality it s a whole
lot more than that; it s a societal problem that affects our whole community, it affects our state as a
whole. Recidivism is the act of reoffending or falling back into criminal behavior after one has been
incarcerated and released. Recidivism tends to more common, than uncommon here in New Mexico.
Never Changing History
The revolving door of recidivism is extremely different than it was only just a few decades ago
though. Nowadays there are so much more offenders being arrested and released from prison than
there was in the past. Not to mention most of them nowadays have served significantly longer prison
terms than those offenders in the past, which in turn contributes to recidivism and the increasing rates
over the years. Very few and far in between ever really received the benefit of the vast rehab or even
pre release programs in the prisons, so in turn they end up right back where there started. They go in
without and education and they come out without an education; they go in with no social skills and
come out with no skills, they go in criminal and come out an even better criminal. How does that all
work?? Who knows but lock them up.

nurses, and other transplant patients alike. Both lung patients and kidney patients who were waiting,

as well as their families. How they felt watching their loved one get sick and there was nothing they
could do and I wanted to develop this further. I gained many ideas from the ex convict and stories
from transplant patients. All these were so inspiring; I had to combine them and thus, developed many
ideas. Jackson s character was the hardest because during the many interviews I got to know him on a
personal level and didn t want to use everything that was real, I needed my own, but what I thought of

The Crusades Effects Essay
There were several effects of the Crusades on the European continent. To summary, the European
continent was mainly affect by the in ideology in religion and king s power.
From the Crusader s point of view, Islam and Judaism should be replaces by Christianity totally even
with the help of violence. In this way, the Crusaders began their persecution against the Jews
throughout the European continent. When Jerusalem was finally caught, the Muslim and Jewish
people were killed in bulk. Later, the slaughter against Muslim and Jews was utilized as an excuse to
indict the Roman Catholic Church in the period of Protestant Reformation. As a result of this, many
people in the European began to lose faith in the Roman Catholic Church since it was no longer
regarded as a moral authority.[1] The violence carried out by the Christians was considered to be
brutal. With the increasing scale of influence of the membership within European continent, there was
also an increase in the loyalty to the church. Consequently, the religious tolerance got low, which
made the Jewish in European become an obvious target. The Jewish population was persecuted in the

A Report On Toyota s Production System
Abstract
Toyota today is one of the leading lean example in today s manufacturing market. Starting back in the
1930 s with the idea of Just in Time to cut down cost in waste from overstocked storage rooms to a
better efficient assembly lines who produced what was needed at a certain time. The Kanban system is
one of the most used methods that the Japanese found during the 1950 s during a trip to United States
in a super market.
Kanban Systems
Lean manufacturing originated long before Toyota and Ford, however the thought that it originated
with Toyota is flattering since they are the ones who perfected it. By creating the Toyota Production
System (TPS), Toyota found a better way to produce large quantities of product efficiently with
eliminating the waste factor and while cutting down cost. Taiichi Ohno a former Toyota vice president
promoted the idea of JIT (Just in Time) which means producing the necessary units in the necessary
quantities at the necessary time. (Monden) Which leads to Toyota s ultimate goal in the TPS is to
improve productivity for better return in investment. To have continuous flow in a production system
Toyota sought out to achieve the concept of JIT and autonomation . Since the TPS is what creates the
parts who monitors the JIT system? The kanban system which is an informational system that controls
quantities being produce in each process. As the discussion carries on throughout this paper about
Toyota and their use of the kanban system the topic

The Importance Of Conscription On Australia
During World War I, there were many wartime controls placed on Australia. The wartime controls I
will focus on in this essay are Conscription, the use of government propaganda, and Censorship. They
all had played an important part in Australia s army system and involvement in the war.
What is conscription? Conscription is where it is compulsory to enlist for state service, mainly
military service. This wartime control was enforced on every country who participated in World War I
except Australia, South Africa and India. Australia tried to pass a conscription law twice during World
War I, the first in 1916 and the second in 1917. Due to not having a conscription law, Australia would
face problems during the first world war. At the start of the war, many people had enlisted, so many
that some were forced to be turned away. However after everyone realised the horrors of the war,
enlistment would slowly decrease as the war went on.
Even though conscription wasn t a law, other ways and methods made men join the army. One method
was women shaming their male relatives who didn t join the army . This method was supported the
government and would make the men feel ashamed of themselves. Therefore, some of the men would
join the army despite not wanting to. Another way that made men join the army was the view of war
the men had. When the war had just started, men believed that the war would give them adventure and
excitement. This is why there was such high volumes of enlistment

critical to understanding why certain strategic policies are adopted. This paper will analyze the
social/cultural and political sources that affect the strategic culture of China and Iran.
The strategic culture of China is primarily influenced by social/cultural sources such as symbols,
myths and defining texts that have resulted in China s sense of superiority and pacifist history. Chinese
sense of cultural superiority is derived from its perception that their state coincided with the civilized
world and Confucianism is critical to enlightenment of the barbarians, evidenced by the 300 Chinese
institutes founded worldwide. Chinese leaders also believe that unlike western expansionist
philosophy, theirs is one of pacifism. This is because of their geographical position and belief that it is
the core of international systems and as long as other states understand their role, there is no need for
war. Chinese pacifism is more a mindset of their leaders than fact based on their 4000 year history of
internal strife, revolution, and external meddling of other countries. The Chinese believe that natural
order requires a strong and stable China, one united internally and free from external influences and
will use military force when needed. Consequently, most Chinese

The Day I Discovered My Future Job Essay
The Day I Discovered My Future Job May 5, 2015, was the day my whole life changed forever. It was
the day I finally figured out what I was meant to do. The patients, the atmosphere, and the people
touched my heart in ways I never knew possible. Just having the ability to work with them made me
feel as though I did the most important thing in the world. St. Jude impacted my life as a child and
choosing to volunteer at one of their events and give back was one of the smartest decisions I have
ever done. At that moment I knew my calling in life was to work with those kids and help them
receive the same opportunities I have had in life. The air was so fresh and the sky was perfect blue, not
a single cloud in the sky over the farm. As soon as we arrived the director of the event greeted me like
a friend and not just a volunteer. It was the most heartfelt welcome I have ever received from a
stranger. She informed me that I would not only be registered as a volunteer, but also as a patient. Just
hearing that information filled my heart with joy! It sent me over the moon knowing they honored my
disease and all that I went through on the journey my illness sent me through. They told me I didn t
fight that hard to beat my disease to not have recognition and praise for being a fighter. After walking
around the lot and seeing all the events, it was as if I were watching a video of myself going there as a
kid and participating at every booth. There was the stage; as a child I got

Essay about How Justified Were President Lincoln’s...
How Justified Were President Lincoln s Wartime Decisions?
In a time of war, it is necessary for the President to enforce limits on the power of individuals.
President Lincoln was entirely justified in limiting rights during the wartime situation to protect the
nation. It was also necessary for him to increase the size of the federal army in order for the North to
have any possibility of winning the war. Lincoln had to do all that he could to keep the Border States,
each of which the Union could not afford to lose. Setting limits on the rights of individuals was
unavoidable for President Lincoln, because Copperheads posed a significant threat to the Union.

C., would become enemy territory. If the line between the North and South shifted further north, the
Union would lose many people, jobs, and railroad lines. President Lincoln needed Kentucky because it
supplied much of the iron, gunpowder, and grain for the South. Slavery still existed in the Border
States, which could be used to lure the Confederate States back. Lincoln s priority was to preserve the
Union. Keeping Maryland, Missouri, Kentucky, Delaware, and West Virginia may have made it
possible.
It was entirely necessary for Lincoln to limit the rights of individuals. Northerners who sympathized
with the South, also called Copperheads , openly attacked President Lincoln and the draft in
newspapers, magazines, and their words. They often shipped goods to the South. Their actions may
have posed a threat to the Union and could have lead to the loss of Border States. To prevent this,
Lincoln arranged for supervised voting, and rightfully suspended Habeas Corpus and free speech.
Those who threatened the North by outwardly speaking against the Union could be jailed immediately.
In order to protect the nation, President Lincoln was entirely justified in suspending rights during the
wartime situation. The North would have had no chance of victory over the Confederacy s superior
military had Lincoln not supported our small, inexperienced army. It was also crucial that the
President kept the slave holding Border States to be able to lure the

Miss Havisham Quotes
Pip experiences mental violence when he meets Estella and Miss Havisham for the first time. They
were both very mean to him. Miss Havisham was mean to him (and other men), because her heart was
broken once. Her fiancé left her on her wedding day, and she was so heartbroken that she was
determined to never move beyond that. Her broken heart made her grow cruel , and bend on revenge
on all men. Her revenge came in the form of her adoptive daughter Estella. She trained Estella to be a
heartbreaker, so that she could get satisfaction from that. This can be noted in one of the first scenes of
the book, when Miss Havisham talks to Estella. With this boy! Why, he is a common labouring boy! I
thought I overheard Miss Havisham answer only it seemed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But yes, yes, she would call it so! (Great expectations,1992 ,p.261)Another thing that made her realize
the fact that she had done something bad was the way she saw Pip, she tells him this when they re
talking about Estella. Until you spoke to her the other day, and until I saw in you a looking glass that
showed me what I once felt myself, I did not know what I had done. What have I done! What have I
done! (Great expectations,1992 ,p.338)When Pip left, he got a feeling that something was wrong, so
he went back to check on Miss Havisham. She was on fire when he entered the room, shrieking in
panic and in pain. Pip helped her stamp out the fire, and let her go when the surgeon arrived. Miss
Havisham started repeating four sentences What have I done! When she first came, I meant to save her
from misery like mine. and then Take a pencil and write under my name, I forgive her! . (Great
expectations,1992 ,p.341).Miss Havisham doesn t die immediately after the fire, but she does die
eventually, so her life didn t have a happy ending even though Pip forgave her. Pip finds out that she
died, in a conversation he had with Joe: Is she dead Joe? Why you see, old chap, said Joe, in a tone of
remonstrance, and by way of getting at it by degrees, I wouldn t go so far as to say that, for that s a
deal to say: but she ain t Living, Joe? That s nigher where it is, said Joe; She ain t living. (Great

Discuss The Arguments For The Rights And Privileges Of...
In this essay, I will be arguing for the rights and privileges of minority groups. I believe that special
privileges do not give minorities excessive benefits, and that these privileges also do not infringe upon
the rights or lifestyles of the majority. I will prove this through the examination of several aspects of
society and nation, including equality, nation building, and identity. These three characteristics of
multiculturalism and society will help evidence the justification of minority rights in the face of
opposing liberal majority interests. To establish the need for minority rights, the concept of
multiculturalism must first be understood. Kymlicka describes multiculturalism as an umbrella term
for the claims of these ethnocultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For most people, identity is intimately tied into their cultural/religious backgrounds. When minorities
are denied recognition of their backgrounds for the sake of the majorities comfort, it denies minorities
their right to cultural or ethnic identities. Living in a society that has a mainstream culture contrary to
one s own lifestyle makes it difficult to embrace your own identity with pride, especially if that
society s government does not support your need for rights. As identity is so crucial in a person s good
life, it is unjust for a society to deny a person their right to celebrate the practices of their culture or
religion. Despite identity being considered a fairly basic right in modern society, it is also where most
of the issues surrounding minority rights occur. Giving a group of people the right to practice a
religion seems inherently just at first glance, however what happens if the groups beliefs conflict with
the liberal majority s concept of human rights? In instances where the beliefs of the minority directly
conflict with the goals of the state (to protect its citizens), I believe it is justifiable for the state to step
in on behalf of the child s wellbeing. These instances, despite being well known, are not as common as
one might think. It is easy to criminalize minorities for specific and rare instances of abuse, but overall
it is empirically provable that most minority groups only want special privileges in order to raise their
position in society to be equal. It is unusual for cases to be handled without precedents or established
systems, but in the case of multiculturalism I think that case to case examinations would be the most
effective way to police such crimes in minority groups. The fear that minorities may abuse any special
privileges they may be awarded does not justify the preemptive denial of

Little Rock Nine Dbq
The first few students to join a newly de segregated school was a group called the Little Rock Nine.
They were a group of Nine African American high school students who were admitted to the Little
Rock Central High School. While some welcomed the change many others didn t. For the first few
days of school, the path to the entrance was blocked by a blockade. The blockable became so large
that eventually, Governor Orval Fabus deployed the Arkansas National Guard to assist in stopping the
Little Rock Nine from entering. His motives became clear as the guard stood outside the entrances
with rifles. In response, President Dwight Eisenhower deployed the 101st Airborne Division of the
Army to escort the Black students into the school. Source 1 is ... Show more content on

eastern area had required educational segregation and other forms of segregation such as dining and
entertainment After the laws were passed over half of America had to change their laws in some ways.
Some did it as soon as possible, such as the northern states with little to no legislation about
segregation. Others weren t as fast, hoping to stall the law for as soon as possible as to not induce
mass change to things like social class and economy in a state that historically had segregation
implanted into the culture of the state. There is a small amount of bias shown in the source as enforced
segregation is highlighted in red. This either on purpose or subconsciously implies that segregation is
bad compared to non segregation which is marked in

allows you to stay on top of your current tasks and objectives. It is a very effective strategy because if

Measure personal performance: Measuring personal performance is my last strategy that can help
maximise time and performance. It can help time and performance by developing a criteria against
which your performance can be mapped or elevated. It is good to go by Key Performance Indicators
(KPI) which is a list of characteristics associated with effective or superior performance in a particular
job role. In other words telling employees what they are required to accomplish and how their success
is measured. This helps your job become easier which means you don t have to spend so much time on
your employees and you can work on your performance. Examples of KPIs would be a courier might

Forex Market Is A World Largest Market Essay
Ranjit Sah Comp I Research paper Mrs. Minor Forex Market Thesis: Forex market is a world largest
market. You can trade in forex from anywhere in the world. It s your world, trade it to make money
under less risk. Introduction: The remote trade showcase (forex, FX, or coin market) is a worldwide
decentralized market for the exchanging of monetary forms. This incorporates all parts of purchasing,
offering and trading monetary forms at present or decided costs. As far as volume of exchanging, it is
by a long shot the biggest market in the world. 1. The primary members in this market are the bigger
global banks. Money related bases on the world capacity as grapples of exchanging between an
extensive variety of numerous sorts of purchasers and merchants all day and all night, except for ends
of the week. The outside trade showcase does not decide the relative estimations of various monetary
forms, but rather sets the present market cost of the estimation of one coin as requested against
another. The outside trade showcase works through monetary foundations, and it works on a few
levels. Off camera banks swing to a littler number of monetary firms known as merchants , who are
effectively required in substantial amounts of remote trade exchanging. Most outside trade merchants
are banks, so this off camera market is some of the time called the interbank showcase , inspite of the
fact that a couple

  • 2. The Theme of Hope in One Day in the Life of Ivan... The Theme of Hope in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich In Alexander Solzhenitsyn s novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, the strong themes of hope and perseverance are undercut by the realization that for Ivan there is little or no purpose in life. This is not to say that the themes of hope and perseverance do not exist in the novel. There are numerous instances in the novel where Shukhov is filled with hope. However, these moments of hope amidst the banal narrative of the novel raise the interesting question: Are these moments of hope pointless? The answer to this question may lie more in the individual human nature of the reader than in Solzhenitsyn s literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Andropov had an intuitive sense that this new work could do as much, in its way, to undermine Soviet power as all the nuclear arsenals in the West. (Remnick 118) Solzhenitsyn uses the every day occurrences of Ivan Denisovich Shukhov s life to accentuate this point about humanity. Shukhov s day began with reveille. Shukhov never slept through reveille but always got up at once. That gave him about an hour and a half to himself before the morning roll call (Solzhenitsyn 1). This short amount of time at the beginning of the day was precious because it was the only time during the day, except for a few minutes in the evening, that the prisoners had to themselves. This short amount of time provided hope for the prisoners in a number of ways. It was a time when anyone who knew what was what in the camps could always scrounge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. What Are The Effects Of The Stamp Act In early spring of 1765, Prime Minister Grenville introduced the Stamp Act. As a direct tax on the colonists, the Stamp Act stipulated that anyone who used or purchased anything printed on paper had to buy a revenue stamp for it and these included items such as newspapers, legal documents, and playing cards. In a sense, the Stamp Act affected every level of society; landowners, merchants, printers, and sailors were all required to pay taxes for the printed papers they used. The Stamp Act was not welcomed with open arms in the colonists because it raised constitutional issues that initiated the first serious protests against British imperial policy. The colonists felt, compared to their counterparts in Britain, the British Parliament wasn t treating them fairly. The British colonists in America felt deprived of the rights they enjoyed as British subjects such as the right to representation. Among those changes, Schlosser explains, Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) changed the entire meatpacking industry by turning the business of slaughtering animals into an assembly line. Small business today is changing from a mentality of all success and forget about the consequences; to a more earth friendly thought process that asks how the company can do business longer. Schlosser writes, the small rancher today has more in common with environmentalist than they do with huge cattle lots and meat packers (134). Small ranchers invest in the land and need to preserve it to continue just making a living not a profit. But in all reality and factuality it s a whole lot more than that; it s a societal problem that affects our whole community, it affects our state as a whole. Recidivism is the act of reoffending or falling back into criminal behavior after one has been incarcerated and released. Recidivism tends to more common, than uncommon here in New Mexico. Never Changing History The revolving door of recidivism is extremely different than it was only just a few decades ago though. Nowadays there are so much more offenders being arrested and released from prison than there was in the past. Not to mention most of them nowadays have served significantly longer prison terms than those offenders in the past, which in turn contributes to recidivism and the increasing rates over the years. Very few and far in between ever really received the benefit of the vast rehab or even pre release programs in the prisons, so in turn they end up right back where there started. They go in without and education and they come out without an education; they go in with no social skills and come out with no skills, they go in criminal and come out an even better criminal. How does that all work?? Who knows but lock them up. Simple Statistics in New Mexico Most studies that I found reported that up to 2/3 of NM offenders will reoffend within three ... I got the idea for this story from someone who underwent both lung and live kidney donation. Initially the RAF played a role in my story, but I ended up cutting it most of it from the script. I did, however in preparation, interview a current worker and a retired to gain contrast within the years. I spoke to nurses, and other transplant patients alike. Both lung patients and kidney patients who were waiting, and those who d had their transplant and were fighting fit. The difference was compelling to see and I wanted to portray this in the script, and to try and promote the positives of organ donation. I was also lucky enough to interview a kidney transplant ... How they felt watching their loved one get sick and there was nothing they could do and I wanted to develop this further. I gained many ideas from the ex convict and stories from transplant patients. All these were so inspiring; I had to combine them and thus, developed many ideas. Jackson s character was the hardest because during the many interviews I got to know him on a personal level and didn t want to use everything that was real, I needed my own, but what I thought of doing, I later found out was part of his life. I had thought about making him the antagonist with a view to control Aimee after part of him was embedded in her body but in a last attempt I tried with him loving her and saving the day to which he fully redeems himself and deserves to be happy as does Aimee and her ... To summary, the European continent was mainly affect by the in ideology in religion and king s power. From the Crusader s point of view, Islam and Judaism should be replaces by Christianity totally even with the help of violence. In this way, the Crusaders began their persecution against the Jews throughout the European continent. When Jerusalem was finally caught, the Muslim and Jewish people were killed in bulk. Later, the slaughter against Muslim and Jews was utilized as an excuse to indict the Roman Catholic Church in the period of Protestant Reformation. As a result of this, many people in the European began to lose faith in the Roman Catholic Church since it was no longer regarded as a moral authority.[1] The violence carried out by the Christians was considered to be brutal. With the increasing scale of influence of the membership within European continent, there was also an increase in the loyalty to the church. Starting back in the 1930 s with the idea of Just in Time to cut down cost in waste from overstocked storage rooms to a better efficient assembly lines who produced what was needed at a certain time. The Kanban system is one of the most used methods that the Japanese found during the 1950 s during a trip to United States in a super market. Kanban Systems Lean manufacturing originated long before Toyota and Ford, however the thought that it originated with Toyota is flattering since they are the ones who perfected it. By creating the Toyota Production System (TPS), Toyota found a better way to produce large quantities of product efficiently with eliminating the waste factor and while cutting down cost. Taiichi Ohno a former Toyota vice president promoted the idea of JIT (Just in Time) which means producing the necessary units in the necessary quantities at the necessary time. • 22. The Importance Of Conscription On Australia During World War I, there were many wartime controls placed on Australia. The wartime controls I will focus on in this essay are Conscription, the use of government propaganda, and Censorship. They all had played an important part in Australia s army system and involvement in the war. What is conscription? Conscription is where it is compulsory to enlist for state service, mainly military service. This wartime control was enforced on every country who participated in World War I except Australia, South Africa and India. Australia tried to pass a conscription law twice during World War I, the first in 1916 and the second in 1917. Due to not having a conscription law, Australia would face problems during the first world war. At the start of the war, many people had enlisted, so many that some were forced to be turned away. However after everyone realised the horrors of the war, enlistment would slowly decrease as the war went on. Even though conscription wasn t a law, other ways and methods made men join the army. One method was women shaming their male relatives who didn t join the army . This method was supported the government and would make the men feel ashamed of themselves. Therefore, some of the men would join the army despite not wanting to. Another way that made men join the army was the view of war the men had. When the war had just started, men believed that the war would give them adventure and excitement. This is why there was such high volumes of enlistment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These perspective and responses are influenced by physical, political and social/cultural sources that are critical to understanding why certain strategic policies are adopted. This paper will analyze the social/cultural and political sources that affect the strategic culture of China and Iran. The strategic culture of China is primarily influenced by social/cultural sources such as symbols, myths and defining texts that have resulted in China s sense of superiority and pacifist history. Chinese sense of cultural superiority is derived from its perception that their state coincided with the civilized world and Confucianism is critical to enlightenment of the barbarians, evidenced by the 300 Chinese institutes founded worldwide. Chinese leaders also believe that unlike western expansionist philosophy, theirs is one of pacifism. This is because of their geographical position and belief that it is the core of international systems and as long as other states understand their role, there is no need for war. Chinese pacifism is more a mindset of their leaders than fact based on their 4000 year history of internal strife, revolution, and external meddling of other countries. The Chinese believe that natural order requires a strong and stable China, one united internally and free from external influences and will use military force when needed. Consequently, most Chinese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was the day I finally figured out what I was meant to do. The patients, the atmosphere, and the people touched my heart in ways I never knew possible. Just having the ability to work with them made me feel as though I did the most important thing in the world. St. Jude impacted my life as a child and choosing to volunteer at one of their events and give back was one of the smartest decisions I have ever done. At that moment I knew my calling in life was to work with those kids and help them receive the same opportunities I have had in life. The air was so fresh and the sky was perfect blue, not a single cloud in the sky over the farm. As soon as we arrived the director of the event greeted me like a friend and not just a volunteer. It was the most heartfelt welcome I have ever received from a stranger. She informed me that I would not only be registered as a volunteer, but also as a patient. Just hearing that information filled my heart with joy! It sent me over the moon knowing they honored my disease and all that I went through on the journey my illness sent me through. They told me I didn t fight that hard to beat my disease to not have recognition and praise for being a fighter. In a time of war, it is necessary for the President to enforce limits on the power of individuals. President Lincoln was entirely justified in limiting rights during the wartime situation to protect the nation. It was also necessary for him to increase the size of the federal army in order for the North to have any possibility of winning the war. Lincoln had to do all that he could to keep the Border States, each of which the Union could not afford to lose. If the line between the North and South shifted further north, the Union would lose many people, jobs, and railroad lines. President Lincoln needed Kentucky because it supplied much of the iron, gunpowder, and grain for the South. Slavery still existed in the Border States, which could be used to lure the Confederate States back. Lincoln s priority was to preserve the Union. Keeping Maryland, Missouri, Kentucky, Delaware, and West Virginia may have made it possible. It was entirely necessary for Lincoln to limit the rights of individuals. Northerners who sympathized with the South, also called Copperheads , openly attacked President Lincoln and the draft in newspapers, magazines, and their words. They often shipped goods to the South. Their actions may have posed a threat to the Union and could have lead to the loss of Border States. To prevent this, Lincoln arranged for supervised voting, and rightfully suspended Habeas Corpus and free speech. Those who threatened the North by outwardly speaking against the Union could be jailed immediately. In order to protect the nation, President Lincoln was entirely justified in suspending rights during the wartime situation. • 27. Discuss The Arguments For The Rights And Privileges Of... In this essay, I will be arguing for the rights and privileges of minority groups. I believe that special privileges do not give minorities excessive benefits, and that these privileges also do not infringe upon the rights or lifestyles of the majority. I will prove this through the examination of several aspects of society and nation, including equality, nation building, and identity. These three characteristics of multiculturalism and society will help evidence the justification of minority rights in the face of opposing liberal majority interests. To establish the need for minority rights, the concept of multiculturalism must first be understood. Kymlicka describes multiculturalism as an umbrella term for the claims of these ethnocultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For most people, identity is intimately tied into their cultural/religious backgrounds. When minorities are denied recognition of their backgrounds for the sake of the majorities comfort, it denies minorities their right to cultural or ethnic identities. Living in a society that has a mainstream culture contrary to one s own lifestyle makes it difficult to embrace your own identity with pride, especially if that society s government does not support your need for rights. As identity is so crucial in a person s good life, it is unjust for a society to deny a person their right to celebrate the practices of their culture or religion. Despite identity being considered a fairly basic right in modern society, it is also where most of the issues surrounding minority rights occur. Giving a group of people the right to practice a religion seems inherently just at first glance, however what happens if the groups beliefs conflict with the liberal majority s concept of human rights? In instances where the beliefs of the minority directly conflict with the goals of the state (to protect its citizens), I believe it is justifiable for the state to step in on behalf of the child s wellbeing. These instances, despite being well known, are not as common as one might think. It is easy to criminalize minorities for specific and rare instances of abuse, but overall it is empirically provable that most minority groups only want special privileges in order to raise their position in society to be equal. It is unusual for cases to be handled without precedents or established systems, but in the case of multiculturalism I think that case to case examinations would be the most effective way to police such crimes in minority groups. The fear that minorities may abuse any special privileges they may be awarded does not justify the preemptive denial of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
