Scottie Pippen Research Paper
When thinking of basketball, what is it that we really think of? Just a ball, a basketball court,
and final scores? Do we take the time to think of players who made this sport really famous and
made a huge impact on it? Did you know that the very first NBA game Scottie Pippen ever saw
was the first NBA game he played in.
Scottie Maurice Pippen, who was also known as Pip was a phenomenal athlete who played the
forward position for the Chicago Bulls, the team whom he won 6 championship titles with. Pippen
was born on September 25, 1965 in Hamburg, Arkansas to Preston and Ethel Pippen. The youngest
child of 12 children, Scottie spent most of his childhood time playing Basketball and Football.

In addition, he has also worked as a special assistant coach for Los Angeles Lakers and former
team, Chicago Bulls. Along his career, Pippen s name began to appear on more than just sports
pages and magazines. In January of 1944 Scottie Pippen was arrested for possession of a
firearm, although the charges were later on dropped after the superstar intimated allegations of
racism on the arresting officers. He was also charged with domestic abuse on his fiance Yvette
Deleone and a paternity suit as well by model Sonya Roby that cited Scottie as the father of her
daughter, and costed the athlete $10,000 despite his denial of the charge. Even though Scottie
Pippens accomplishments have been somewhat overshadowed by great times and major
setbacks in his personal life, Pippen became one of the greatest power forwards in professional
basketball, his success inspired many people and goes on to show that a person is not defined by
where he/she comes from or how they were brought up. Scottie Pippen has continued to
distinguish himself and his authority among younger, much less experienced players from all over
the world. His multiple NBA records, Olympic medals, and other countless accolades will forever
speak for him. This goes on to prove that no matter what you go through in your early life, you can

The Identifying Factors in the Development of Aggression...
The Identifying Factors in the Development of Aggression and Violence in Youth Today
Tragic events like the shootings at Columbine High School capture public attention and concern,
but are not typical of youth violence. Most adolescent homicides are committed in inner cities and
outside of school. They most frequently involve an interpersonal dispute and a single victim. On
average, six or seven youths are murdered in this country each day. Most of these are inner city
minority youths. Such acts of violence are tragic and contribute to a climate of fear in schools and
communities.
Research findings are identifying factors in the development of aggressive and antisocial behavior
from early childhood to adolescence and into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Successful early adjustment at home increases the likelihood that children will overcome such
individual challenges and not become violent. However, exposure to violent or aggressive behavior
within a family or peer group may influence a child in that direction.
Types and Severity of Antisocial Behavior
The types and severity of antisocial behaviors exhibited by youths vary greatly and include lying,
bullying, truancy, starting fights, vandalism, theft, assault, rape, and homicide. As a rule, the older
the age of onset, the fewer the number of antisocial youths who will engage in seriously aggressive
and violent behavior. Longitudinal studies show that many children who engage in antisocial
behavior in childhood continue to do so at least through adolescence.
Longitudinal research has identified types of youth who progress to adolescent antisocial behavior,
multiple pathways through which it develops and persists, and the multiple factors that shape this
risk. This research has identified two types of life course trajectories: life course persistent, which
is viewed as a form of psycho
pathology, and adolescence limited, which is identified only in select social situations. The
distinction between these two types of individuals is very useful, both as a way of thinking about
developmental knowledge and as a tool for targeting the right interventions for antisocial youth.
Research in this area has generated evidence for this way of

My Love For Neurosurgery
My love for neurosurgery grew slowly over the past three years, like a tumor, until it finally took
over my aspirations. With a master s degree in psychology, I entered medical school thinking I
would specialize in psychiatry. However, the field of neurosurgery soon enraptured me. On top
of my underlying interest in the brain, I discovered a love for the operating room with all of its
intensity, acuity, and finesse as well as a passion for neurological processes and pathology. During
my clinical years of medical school, I tried hard to find specialties I could imagine myself doing

Essay on Gospel Music
Gospel Music
By 1945, nearly everyone in the African American community had heard gospel music (2). At this
time, gospel music was a sacred folk music with origins in field hollers, work songs, slave songs,
Baptist lining hymns, and Negro spirituals. These songs that influenced gospel music were adapted
and reworked into expressions of praise and thanks of the community. Although the harmonies were
similar to those of the blues or hymns in that they shared the same simplicity, the rhythm was much
different. The rhythms often times had the music with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of appeals. The lowest court is District court, most people experiencing court will be at this one.
This court deals with less serious crimes including traffic and boating violations, misdemeanors,
domestic violence, landlord disputes, and small claims. Circuit Court, which is the next lowest
court, generally handles more serious criminal cases, major civil cases, certain administrative
agencies, and domestic violence cases. The Court of special appeals, the intermediate appellate

In court, I observed an arraignment. An arraignment is an appearance in court to hear the charges
and to make a plea. Before they appeared at their arraignment they were supposed to go through the
steps of the criminal justice system. First, there was an investigation, an arrest, and booking. If the
suspect was a juvenile, they would go into the juvenile justice system. Next is the prosecution;
charging, initial appearance, preliminary hearing, and indictment or information. During charging,
the prosecution attorneys are the link between police and the court; they must decide if there is
reasonable cause to believe an offense was committed, they either are released or have an initial
appearance. At the initial appearance, they are brought before a judge, given a formal notice of
charges, advised of their rights, and given a chance to post bail. If not enough evidence has been
produced, the judge will dismiss the case and if there is enough evidence, they will move on to a

Relationship Between Equity And The Common Law
Equity has been described as a mysterious creature that lies distinctly alongside the common law. In
considering the statement, there is an almost linear reversal in which the remedies in equity procure
a type of right not necessarily available in the common law. This peculiar jurisdiction has created
consistent controversy especially in regards to the fusion of the common lawand equity. To
understand further, this essay will consider the relationship between equity and the common law.
The development of equity alongside the common law through its history and intention, and
application in case law will be imperative in the discussion of the statement. In conjunction with an
analysis of fusion, it will become apparent that equitable damages were enlivened, separate to, in
unfair circumstances where no rights/damages existed within the common law. In trying to tread
the murky waters of the distinction yet the procedural fusion of equity and common law, the
contention of this essay becomes apparent. Effectively, this essay aims to highlight that the history,
intention, application and fusion fallacies regarding equity, all which point to an assertion that
rights in equity are indeed the product of its remedies. Whether they are merely two streams of
jurisdiction, though they run in the same channel, run side by side and do not mingle their waters ,
is yet to be seen.

Agricultural Workers In The Minoan Social Hierarchy
Historians do not think that agricultural workers had a high position in the Minoan social hierarchy.
This is due to the fact that we do not have a lot of sources which depict agricultural workers. This
suggests that they were not seen as important. However, the Minoans knew that agriculture was
important. This is made evident by the fact that they placed votive offerings at sanctuaries that
depicted animals and plants. This suggests that they were concerned with breeding animal and
growing crops. Additionally, they redesigned the Minoan palaces during the Second Palace Period
so that they could hold more agricultural products. Furthermore, all of the palaces and towns were
built next to fertile plains. This suggests that the Minoans thought

Edward Estlin Cummings Essay example
Edward Estlin Cummings was an American poet the second most widely read poet in the United
States, after Robert Frost born in 1894. He was immensely popular, especially among younger
readers for his work; he experimented radically with form, punctuation, spelling and syntax. The
majority of his poems turn to the subjects of love, war, and sex, with such simplistic language,
abandoning traditional techniques to create new means of poetic expression.
Somewhere I have never travelled , is a very highly acclaimed poem. The narrator speaks of his
lover, and the power, which attaches him to her. The title, Somewhere I have never travelled , is
significant to the romantic theme of the poem. It is quite a complicated concept, and at first ... Show

Death and forever describes the speaker s feelings, like a sudden plunge in his heart because his
love is so deep, aching and yet so full of hope and wonder.
E.E. Cummings use of language is quite ambigious as this is only one of many possible
interpretations. His use of diction expresses the love in so gentle a way, yet with such powerful
and passionate meaning, effectively captivating the reader; it combines vivid images with intense
use of language. The entire poem is a metaphor; the narrator is comparing his lover s qualities, to
that of a rose, though it never directly mentions the word love , the essence of love is worded
beautifully.
There is constant imagery of nature; the flowers closing and opening, the seasons and elements
and references to the sense of touch, you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens .
This reminds us of the closeness of the lovers and emphasizes the spontaneity of the lovers, their
preference for intuition or feeling over thought. There is also repetitive use of the words close
and open , E.E. Cummings is expressing the power of a woman over the man who loves her. She
can open him as spring opens a rose, or close him as snow closes a flower; again, the use of
language conjure images of nature, suggesting the vitality of their love. The subject of the poem is

Hagar Leaving Abraham s House In Genesis
Hagar and Ishmael s story in Genesis is often understood in the light of Isaac being the rightful heir
to Abraham s inheritance and legacy through the abandonment and expulsion of Hagar and Ishmael.
At first glance, the story portrays Hagar as an outsider, an Egyptian servant, who is beneath Sarah,
the mistress; thus, this difference in position justifies Hagar and Ishmaels abandonment from
Abraham s house. A closer look at the story evokes the reader s sympathy for Hagar and Ishmael s
unfair treatment since Ishmael is the firstborn son. This subtle detail drawn between the lines
suggests that there an underlying message in this narrative. In this paper, I will discuss how the

In the first account, the text states that Sarah s inability to bear Abraham a child led her to take
matters into her own hands by giving her Egyptian maidservant, Hagar, to Abraham as a
concubine so that he can bear him a child through Hagar. After Hagar and Abraham cohabited,
she became pregnant, which caused Sarah to be disturbed by her status in Hagar s eyes. Sarah
complained to Abraham and he told her to deal with it as she thinks fit as Hagar is her
maidservant. This caused Sarah to treat Hagar harshly and resulted in Hagar fleeing from her
master s house to run from Sarah. An angel of YHWH found her near a spring on the road to Shur
and told her to return to her master s house and submit to the harsh treatment, while also instilling
(?) some blessings to her. This narrative ended with the birth of Ishmael when Abraham was eighty
six years old. The second text in Genesis 21 begins with the fulfillment of God s promise to Sarah
with the birth of Isaac when Abraham was a hundred years old. Sarah was delighted with Isaac s
birth and was laughing at the people who mocked her for her inability to bear Abraham a son.
During Isaac s feast, she saw Ishmael playing with Isaac, which saddened her and she demanded
that Hagar and Ishmael be cast out as she did not want Ishmael, the son of a slave, to share the
same inheritance as Isaac. Abraham was greatly distressed by Sarah s request, but God told him
to not worry and follow Sarah s demand for it is through Isaac that offspring shall be continued
for you (Gen. 21:12) and He will bless Ishmael by [making] a nation of him (21:13). The next
morning, with God s instructions, Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away and gave them some
bread and water. When Hagar ran out of water in the wilderness of Beersheba, an angel of God

A Research Study On The Frisian Language
For my research, I conducted an analysis of the Frisian language. Frisian is a part of the Proto Indo
European language family, specifically the Germanic branch in the Western Germanic tradition.
Frisian developed in the Western Germanic family and then it grew and changed from Old Frisian
into Modern Frisian. Frisian, unlike English, has no intervening steps between Old Frisian and
Modern Frisian: e.g. English developed from Old English, to Middle English, to Modern English.
According to classical sources, the Frisians traditionally inhabited the area between the Rhine or
Scheldt in the West and the Ems or Weser in the East. The province of FryslГ

West Frisian is the largest and most viable of the Frisian speech communities. The most striking
fact about West Frisian, as opposed to East and North Frisian, is its relative uniformity dialectally
speaking (Markey: 2011).
It is in the realm of phonology that West Frisian evinces the greatest evolution from that of Old
Frisian. The morphology, while further simplified in directions foreshadowed even in Classical
Old Frisian, is not radically changed. In the literature it is quite generally assumed that Old
Frisian is an SOV language, i.e. a language with a subject (S) complement (O) verb (V) order in
simplex sentence structure. In this observational statement, V refers to non finite verbs
essentially, since it is assumed that these forms are indicative of the basic position of verbs
(Studies in West Frisian Grammar: 2010). According to the same book, it was noted that a number
of cases of grammatical influence of Dutch on Frisian were discussed, especially regarding a
morphological example of this influence which is a change in the system of Frisian diminutive
formation. The syntax of the Frisian verbal complex differs in several ways from the Dutch one.
According to Besten and Edmondsen s paper from 1983, Frisian shares an interesting property with
other West Germanic languages in that main verbs are accompanied by auxiliary verbs and/or
modals occur in one cluster in sentence final

The Most Significant Moment In My Life
We all have that moment in life that changes us in some ways. I think back at events in my life,
as an example the births of my children that caused me to grow into a mother and the woman I
am today. However, there is a moment in my life, after my children, I was psychologically lost.
This moment changed my life forever! I was married for thirteen years with five children. During
these thirteen years, I would be the head of the house hold and ensured structure in the house. My
husband at the time, was an addict and in/out of prison. We attempt counseling and all types of
treatment. The last six years together, we were very involved in church. My faith in God grew
and I believed my husband could be delivered from this addition. I had to be the strong one in the
family, the rock, the foundation of our house to give the perception to people we were okay.
After trying everything possible, I realized, only he can be in recovery of addiction, I cannot
make him. I had to make the decision to break up my family for the safety of my children. After
my separation, I became angry. My faith was questionable, and I was angry at God. My family
was torn, we lived with a friend in a small room. My step children had to live with their mom
because I could not afford to keep them. I no longer felt strong, or had structure in my house. The
feeling of failure and the mourning of the loss of my family was overwhelming. I began to drink
alcohol every day. My daily routine would consist of going to work and as soon as I got out I
would stop and get a Smirnoff Black, go home, cook for the three kids, leave work out, drink
and go out, go home at two am. The next six months, I did not care about anything or anyone. I
allowed these feelings to consume me. In September 2013, the first week, I was driving drunk, I
swerved and ran my mirror in to the wall. The second week, I was drunk and could not leave the
parking lot of a club, until the following morning. The third week, I was driving drunk to a friend
s house, and I remember fighting with him at the door way, and he asked me to leave. The next

Teen Drug Abuse Essay
Teenagers often experiment with a variety of activities and substances. This experimentation can
lead to substance abuse and addiction. There s a lot of information that show that drug abuse is a
growing problem among teens. In addition to cocaine, Ecstasy and other club drugs, a recent
Monitoring the Future Study showed that the top six most abused drugs by teens are: marijuana
(31.5%), Vicodin (9.7%), amphetamines (8.1%), cough medicine (6.9%), sedatives and

Theories Of Atonement
Before answering the title question, two clarifications need to be made. Firstly, there is
difficulty when speaking of the atonement as there is seemingly no Dogma. This is an opinion
held by Robert Jenson who states, you can deny any offered construal of how the atonement
works, or all of them altogether, or even deny that any construal is possible, and be a perfectly
orthodox believer . Due to this, over the years theologians have formulated a myriad of types,
models and theories. Alister McGrath helpfully groups these into four themes (the cross as a
sacrifice, the cross as a victory, the cross and forgiveness, and the cross as a moral example). It is
by these four that we will divide the atonement and address the question. The task in... Show more

representation, etc. The aspect of this model that separates it from the others can be considered
a strength. The cross and forgiveness emphasises the desire for God to find a way to forgive, a
way to make things right, because of what God has done in Christ forgiveness is ready waiting
for every sinner that repents . This is a comparative strength, especially in the context of mission.
From an external perspective the cross as a sacrifice can be seen as a God who wants to justly kill
or seeks vengeance; the cross as a victory can be seen as a God who deceives or is not
omnipotent; The cross and forgiveness can be seen as a God who is reaching out to make things
right with us, his creation. In all things God works for the good , Used in mission this scripture
can provide a powerful inspiration for the potential transformational force of a God who seeks to

We Often Fall In Love With People And Think Long And Hard
We often fall in love with people and think long and hard about what it is that we really love
about them. Is it their smile? Personality? Laugh, maybe? The eyes? We can all agree that we all
have the same problem. That we can t exactly explain why we love the person. Well in this case,
sonnet XVII, Pablo Neruda loves his beloved from the inside, not the outside features. Pablo
Neruda was born in Chile and his sonnets are originally written in Spanish. He published the 100
LoveSonnets in 1959. He had an affair with his second wife with Matilde Urrutia. Later, they got
married in 1966, but they have been together since 1946. Apparently, Urrutia is the inspiration for
100 love Sonnets. So let s assume that the sonnets are about... Show more content on

Looking at the original Spanish version, we see the rhyme scheme. The octave lines end with the
words topacio, fuego, oscuras, alma, lleva, flores, cuerpo, and tierra. The rhyme scheme is aabc
cbac. The sestet lines end with the words dГіnde, orgullo, manera, eres, mГa, and sueГ±o. These
words give the sestet a rhyme scheme of bac bca. With this writing style, in this case, free verse,
Neruda is able to convey the message effectively. Through his words and style of writing, we can
get an idea of what kind of guy he is. In the first stanza, he describes what love is not. Neruda
says I don t love you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz, or arrow of carnations that propagate fire.
Here he uses nature to describe what love is not. But again, later we see that he uses plants to
declare his love. Moreover, the rose of salt is a reference to a type of rose that grows by the
ocean. A carnation usually symbolizes purity of love and affection and a topaz is a mineral that
comes in many colors. The first two lines indicate that his love for his partner is not the same as
the love one has for materialistic things or flowers. The line I love you as one loves dark things,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul. Neruda suggest what his emotional placement of love
is. It is deep in his soul and heart. He describes his love to dark things, but what does he mean by
that? It makes me think that there is something

The Exposition Of Jacob And Wilhelm Grimm s The Shroud
The Shroud is a very short story, only taking up one page. This short paragraph of a story still
conveys all the necessary elements of plot. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm s short story The Shroud
contains all elements of plot; these elements all add up to create an artistic story that entertains the
reader. The exposition of The Shroud is short, only one long sentence. This exposition is There
was once a mother who had a little boy of seven years old, who was so handsome and lovable that
no one could look at him without liking him, and she herself worshipped him above everything in
the world (Lines 1 3). This sentence is the exposition because it introduces both the characters, the
mother and the son. Also, the sentence introduces all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader is now fully invested in the story because they want to know why the son is
appearing in these places, even though the son is dead. This sentence intensifies the conflict and
furthers the plot along. The inciting incident and rising action in The Shroud help further the
story, and get the reader further invested in the story. In The Shroud the climax comes quickly,
and is surprising to the reader. The climax of the story is As, however, the mother would not stop
crying, it came one night... and stood on the bed at her feet, and said, Oh, mother, do stop
crying, or I shall never fall asleep in my coffin, for my shroud will not dry because of all thy
tears which fall upon it. (Lines 9 12). The son coming to the mother in the night and speaking to
her is surprising to the reader. This is the point of the story with the greatest emotion, as the
mother is sad that her child is dead, and the child is not able to rest because of the mothers
intense sadness. The climax leads to a change, and in The Shroud the son speaking to the mother
leads to the mother changing her actions, the mother cries no more so that her son can move on.
The climax of The Shroud is when the mother and son are both full of emotion, and these emotions
lead to a change. The falling action of The Shroud wraps up all the conflict in the story, the boy
coming back to speak to his mother, and in the falling

Behavior Modification Essay example
Behavior Modification Behavior Modification, a psychological theory of human behavior. It
evolved from the application of experimentally derived principles of learning to the modification of
problem behaviors. The theory is based on a psychological model of human behavior that rejects the
psychoanalytic or quasi disease model of mental illness. Approaches to behavior modification
assume that abnormal behavior is acquired and maintained in the same manner as normal behavior
and can be changed directly through the application of social learning principles. Assessment
procedures focus on describing how an individual behaves, thinks, and feels in specific situations.
Treatment methods are derived from the theories and findings of... Show more content on

This procedure, used to alleviate anxiety in adult patients, became one of the best known and most
widely used behavior modification techniques. Another key development in the evolution of
behavior modification was the work of Hans Eysenck and his colleagues in England in the 1950s.
Eysenck defined behavior modification as the application of modern learning theory to the
treatment of behavioral and emotional problems. He held that, in contrast to traditional
psychoanalytic procedures, the efficacy of behavior modification procedures could be verified
through experiments. The third major development in the evolution of behavior modification was
the publication in 1953 of B. F. Skinner s Science and Human Behavior. This work heralded a
philosophical shift from the search for inner causes of behavior to an emphasis on the
measurement and modification of observable behavior. A fundamental tenet of Skinner s radical
behaviorism is that the probability of a behavior is related directly to the nature of the
environmental consequences that follow performance of that behavior. From this basic tenet he
derived a set of procedures for modifying behavior by a method called operant conditioning.
Specifically, behavior is strengthened, or increased in frequency, when followed by either a
positive consequence (positive reinforcement) or removal of a negative consequence (negative
reinforcement). Behavior is weakened, or decreased

The Glass Palace By Amitav Ghosh
The Glass Palace
Amitav Ghosh explores different storytelling forms and complicates the picture of pre and
postcolonial South Asian identity in his fourth novel The Glass Palace1. His ambitious epic tells
the stories of a cast of characters, royal working clogs, and bourgeois Indians, Bengalis, and
Burmese as they grapple with their sense of place and self while violent historical events reshape
twentieth century Burma and India2 .
Amitav Ghosh s The Glass Palace is an evocation of the recent past of the glorious culture and
eventual of Burma along with the gradual erosion of its social structure as well as economic self
sufficiency. The novel cuts across three generations of Indians who make Burma their home and
leaves it under the onslaught of Japanese invasion. It is a curious fact that the past or the
prospects of the Burma never occupied the attention of the world, not because of its economic
deprivation or primitive mode of living, but due to its geographical obscurity. The policy of
Britain is nothing short of looting by forcing the king into exile and taking charge of the country.

Comparing Julius Caesar And Antony
Octavian and Antony No contemporaries could have possibly known for sure as to who the victor
would be from the conflict that arose between Gaius Julius Ceasar Octavianus, Octavian, and
Marcus Antonius, Antony. However, knowing what the ultimate outcome of the struggle was, one
may be able to look back into history and offer key reasons as to why Octavian was able to defeat
Antony. Ultimately, I believe there was not one key reason for Octavian victory. It was a
combination of Octavian s proximity to Rome, his favor with the citizens, and the elimination of his
opposition at home that all combined to allow his eventual triumph. Overlooking some smaller
details, it is first important to know that after Julius Ceasar s assassination that Octavian was named
his heir and returned to Italy to claim this inheritance. From here, he gathered military power and
allowed the senate to use him, in order to advance his political position, and he was sent to fight
against a rebellious Antony. At this point, Octavian did not try to decimate Antony s forces, instead
he proposed and ultimately formed the second triumvirate with Antony and Lepidus as the other
heads of the state (Wells 13). From here, the Roman territories were divided into areas of
governorship with Antony taking the east, Octavian the west, and Lepidus had the Africa territories
(Wells 17). This would turn out to be one of the main contributing factors in Octavian s ultimate
success; for it allowed him the opportunity

Diversity In Hollywood
Diversity and representation has been in an increased demand over the past few years. Even
children s TV producers and creators are taking notice by including LGBT and all sorts of ethnic
characters in their shows. However, it seems that Hollywood has yet to take note. For the
second year in a row, the Oscars have failed to bring diversity to this year s nominations. Many
expressed their frustration online, taking to Twitter using the hashtag, #OscarsSoWhite, and
saying they will be boycotting the event. Jada Pinkett Smith announced on social media that she
will not be attending the Oscars because of their lack of diversity. Later, Will Smith, who starred
in Concussion, says he stands by his wife. The Smith family is not the only group of celebrities
to be boycotting the Oscars. Celebrities such as Spike Lee, Tyrese Gibson, as well as Snoop Dogg

criminalisation, theory of delinquency and criminalisation, theory of political economy and

The first theme is labelling and deviant identity theory of criminalisation, one of the main
contributors to this theory was Howard Becker who in 1963 wrote the book Outsiders which

Sykes and Matza state that there is five contributory factors to the rationalisation process these are
denial of responsibility, denial of injury, denial of the victim, condemnation of the condemners,
and appeal to the higher loyalties. Denial of responsibility is when a delinquent will blame
another group for his criminal act such as his parents did not give them a good upbringing or his
school let him down, they look at themselves as the victim. Denial of injury is when they
rationalise there action because nobody was hurt, for example vandalism or shoplifting from a
large store chain who they believe can afford the lose. Denial of the victim is when they state that
the victim deserved it. Condemnation of the condemners they blame the other group for there
actions and try to deflect responsibility and appeal to higher loyalties they are fighting for the
ethical good. Chambliss and Snider state that capitalism is the main contributor to delinquency as
we strive to achieve personal wealth and gain an individual who does not achieve this feel justified
in delinquent behaviour.
Theory of political economy and criminalisation this looks at how capitalism can shape delinquent
and deviant behaviour. Chambliss argues :
The heart of the capitalist economic system is the protection of private property, which is, by
definition, the cornerstone upon which capitalist economies function. It is not surprising, then to

The Importance Of Wireless Systems
The wireless technology recorded the magnificent growth since its foundation as the result there
has been an surprise growth in the number of users using wireless all over the world during the
last decade. As the number of user increases, the system operators regularly deploy smaller cells
to increase the system capacity. As the cell size reduces, the crossing of cell boundary increases
which results, a higher handoff rate. Handoff process enables a cellular system to provide such a
facility by transferring an active call from one cell to another. Further, in addition to voice

Langston Hughes Silhouette
Many writers of the past and even today have attempted to openly talk of African American racial
biases, hatred and aggression issues. Langston Hughes was very successful in shinning the light in
this subject through his poem Silhouette which was written in 1949. Through his selective yet
literal choice of words Hughes created a powerful and haunting image of African Americaninjustice
and atrocities.
The original context of Silhouette was an indirectly stated and strong outcry that persuaded the
reader to openly view the injustice towards blacks, in this case the event of hanging a black man.
The poem was really powerful in part because of the hostile era during the early and late 1940s
where being near white women was forbidden and for which several African Americans especially
in the South were lynched or brutally punished. This aspect grabbed the essential audience and
created the perfect atmosphere to deliver his message through the poem, because all ... Show more

event in which Alan shot himself in despair after Blanche had discovered about his male lover.
Ever since then, Blanche has been on a downward spiral. The polka music also symbolizes the

Blanche s memory of romance is gone and all that is left is sadness. The polka music occurs

Human Flaws In The Book Of Genesis
Genesis, the first book of the Hebrew Torah, is for many people a book of innocent stories about
the Creation, and the noble Patriarchs that follow the will of God. However, Genesis has much
more to provide to humankind than stories; whether or not one takes Genesis as history, it does
give insight into the lives and customs of the primeval Jewish people. Fundamentally, the Book of
Genesisfocuses on the family. The Book follows the descendants of Adam through the Patriarchs,
offering a look into each family, and the dynamics surrounding them. Genesis, and much of the

the patriarchs valued heirs above all. Whether or not the people of that culture took the concept
of a one man one woman marriage as tradition, or something to be valued, it is clear that the
format of a marriage does not matter when heirs are at stake. Genesis states that Abram was 86
years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael, meaning Sarah gave Abraham to Hagar after a
monogamous marriage of many decades (16:16) Now, as Sarah obviously felt jealousy, the need
for an heir to Abraham s name bore greater weight than their relationship. As seen in the story of
Lot and his daughters, the need for an heir even drove some to commit incest, an act most likely
seen as indecent. The desire for sons is what partially prompted Leah and Rachel to fight. In
addition, the concept of the heir relates to the repeated use of generations and genealogy chapters in
the book, emphasizing Genesis focus on the

The Potential Growth Of Companies
Our purpose is to find the potential growth of companies in both the large cap and small mid cap
category of biotechnology industry.
Therefore, we selected two mature companies and two companies that are in development stage.
Our choices mainly base on the companies pipeline because biotechnology companies lives or dies
depending on their pipeline, level of expertise and network of partners/distributors they have. For
mature companies, we looked at their financial strength, the source of financing they have to fund
their research and development, as well as their products breadth in the pipeline. We prefer mature
companies with dominating market shares and are focusing on common diseases, cancer or heart
diseases. For that reason, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Like all works of art. the portrait is a system of signs; it is often an ideogram of public meanings
condensed into the image of a human face. Roman portrait sculpture from the Republic through the
late Empire the second century BCE. to the sixth CE constitutes what is surely the most remarkable
body of portrait art ever created. Its shifting montage of abstractions from human appearance and
character forms a language in which the history of a whole society can be read. Beginning in the
first century B.C., Roman artists invented a new kind of portraiture, as unlike that of the great
tradition of Greek... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The emphasis accorded these contingencies of physiognomy and the resolute refusal of any
concession to our or, so it would appear, antiquity s ideas of desirable physical appearance lead
one easily to the conclusion that those portraits are uncompromising attempts to transcribe into
plastic form the reality of what is seen, innocent of any idealization or programmatic bias. These
are the portraits of the conservative nobility (and of their middle class emulators) (luring the
death agonies of the Roman republic. There is no need to doubt that much of their character
refers to quite real qualities of their subjects. These are men in later life because the carefully
prescribed ladder of public office normally allowed those who followed it to attain only gradually
and after many years to such eminence as would allow the signal honor of a public statue. One may
well suppose that these hard bitten and rather unimaginative faces closely reflect the prevailing
temperament of the class and society to which they belong, and the twisted and

they found were amino acids. Oparin and Haldane felt that with the blend of gasses in the air and

Doctrine of Ultra Vires in Public Law
INTRODUCTION: In a welfare state a government undertakes many ventures for the benefit of
the people. This invariably means, powers have to be delegated to sub ordinate bodies for the
smooth functioning and administration of these bodies and ventures, as the Parliament cannot run
all these bodies on its own. As the state s involvement in public affairs increase, more and more
power is devolved and as a consequence the need to regulate and restrict this power too increases.
In doing so there is a delicate balance to be preserved. On one hand it has to be ensured that the
authorities and bodies do not exceed their powers and thus abuse them and on the other hand they
should have the powers which are reasonably required to make them effective... Show more content

Nevertheless, the Court also realizes that for the proper functioning of these public bodies,
powers that are reasonably within their purview for the attaining of the objectives of the
Parliament s intention in promulgating the statute should not be deprived to them by the
application of the Ultra Vires doctrine. This has been aptly pointed out by Keith Davis in
relation to Local Authorities as follows: If the application (of the doctrine of ultra vires) becomes
too lax Local Authorities will enjoy a greater power than the Parliament intended they should have
and if it was relaxed altogether their freedom of action would become absolute and their exercise
of power would be quite arbitrary.... If on the other hand the application becomes too strict, local
authorities will enjoy a narrower power than what the Parliament intended they should have; and
ultimately they would exercise no independent power at all. Then Local Government would be
transformed into Local Arm of Central Government administration, if it did not wither away
completely. To achieve the required balance, the Courts have developed certain rules which is
called by some authors as the Necessarily Incidentals Doctrine . NECESSARILY INCIDENTALS
DOCTRINE: The Interpretation Ordinance provides some guidelines of these rules. Section 4 of
the ordinance provides Where any enactment or written law, whether passed or made before or after

Market Segmentation
Segmentation Segmentation is essentially the identification of subsets of buyers within a market
who share similar needs and who demonstrate similar buyer behavior. The world is made up
from billions of buyers with their own sets of needs and behavior. Segmentation aims to match
groups of purchasers with the same set of needs and buyer behavior. Such a group is known as a
segment . Think of you r market as an orange, with a series of connected but distinctive segments,
each with their own profile. Of course you can segment by all sorts of variables. The diagram
above depicts how segmentation information is often represented as a pie chart diagram the
segments are often named and/ or numbered in some way. Segmentation is a form of... Show more

This briefing will explore each of these categories, hopefully bringing some measure of clarity to
this space. Personalisation This covers all situations in which the end user is given the capability to
customise or tailor the features provided, or how information is delivered to them. This covers
simple functionality such as: my links my documents choosing portal elements ( portlets )
Personalisation also includes richer functionality such as selecting news channels, or setting
preferences in HR and travel systems. Personalisation (as defined here) is the most commonly
implemented functionality, and is often the simplest to deploy. Doubts are raised, however, about
the degree to which users make use of this functionality, and simple personalisation can struggle to
demonstrate the benefits delivered to the organisation. Segmentation Instead of leaving it to end
users to configure interfaces, segmentation involves the organisation more actively tailoring what
is delivered to specific groups or roles. This may include: targeting the delivery of individual
documents providing tailored portals for specific groups segmenting the whole site by audience
There is a strong argument for benefits delivered by segmentation, particular as a way of
overcoming the information overload experienced by end users. The challenge is, and always will
be, the considerable resources that need to be devoted to

Exploring the Sharp Rise in Dual-Career Families Essay
Most everyone was raised in a family that had two working parents. Even now most married
adults are working couples. According to a survey, the percentage of dual income families has
increased sharply over the past 30 years. As more and more female enter the work force more
single family careers are turning into two career families. In this economy can a familyactually
afford not to have both adults working? Whether it s for money, wanting to seek a goal or just to
benefit your family, the dual career family has taken place of the single career family.
First lets define dual career family , according to the dictionary, the dual career family is one in
which both heads of the household pursue careers and at the same time ... Show more content on

An example would be who would be the bread winner of the family. A woman may be trying to
juggle her career and family. This may be very difficult trying to play wife mother role
(nurturance, emotionality, responsiveness) while balancing her career role. A man too may
struggle with his definition of masculine and feminine roles as it has been taught to him. He
may think that he is to be expected to be the head of the household, to be the one who earns the
money and has the power . For the most part men aren t taught to fill the role in child rearing or
homemaking. Even if he has had the skills he may see it as a waste of time and may hurt his
career. Other hand in a single career family there is no guess as to whose role is what. There is the
one that brings in the money, he or she is in the bread winners role and then there is the one that
stays home and takes care of things there. They know their roles in the household and there is no
question about it.
Another challenge of the two career family is that one person may take a back seat for the others
career and the result maybe a person not reaching their full potential career wise. Other the hand
the single career family doesn t have to worry about this, since there is one person with a career
that individual is able to keep going as far as his or her career will take them.
Another challenge is when most couple tries to share the load. When this

Site Visit: Shabbat Service On the evening of the sixteenth of September, I was able to experience
a fascinating affair of which was utterly unfamiliar to me beforehand. I found the Friday Shabbat
service at Temple Beit HaYam to be enlightening of the beliefs held by members of Reform
Judaism while also simply intriguing. The Temple is located in Stuart, Florida and was founded in
1978 (Temple Beit HaYam). The building, as well as its inhabitants, appeared welcoming and
inviting. As such, I was greeted several times before entering for the service. Not only did I leave
the Temple with a better understanding of Judaism,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This phrase translates to repairing the world (What is Reform). In support of this mission,
Reform Jews strive to bring peace, liberty, and amity to all people of the world through the
works of good and charitable deeds. In addition to carrying out good deeds, Reform Jews meet
weekly for the welcoming of Sabbath on Friday evenings in services. Sabbath is seen as an
everlasting sign of the covenant between the Jewish people and God. It is often viewed as a
point in which the Jewish people can discard of the cares or burden of the previous week and
welcome a peaceful state of rest (Fisher 285). These services are offered at 7:00P.M. on Friday
and 9:00A.M. on Saturday at Temple Beit HaYam. The Shabbat proceedings are lead by rabbis of
Reform Judaism. At Temple Beit HaYam, the services are administered and lead by Rabbi
Matthew Durbin. The congregation is committed to avodah , or worship through prayer and
observance, both while in and outside of the service (Temple Beit HaYam). As supplement to the
services, the Temple also offers educational services for both the youth and adult members of the
congregation. This educational program aims to teach Judaism as an active experience in the lives
of its students. The congregation also recognizes the importance of social unity and the value of
wholesome fun. The Reform denomination of Judaism remains to be seen in easy contrast to other
Jewish denominations for some of these

Urban Poverty In Planet Of Slums By Mike Davis
In the passage, Planet of Slums by Mike Davis, the author has a dystopic view on urbanization
and argues that urban poverty is increasing and has a negative impact on the world. His dystopic
vision can be written off as a society with undesirable traits such as poverty, oppression, and
overcrowding. Davis s vision on these people s lifestyle can be compared and contrasted with
Robert Neuwirth s view of this lifestyle in his passage, Shadow Cities and the film Sleep Dealer by
Alex Rivera.
The author Mike Davis has done countless research on the topic of urban poverty. In his studies he
collects and receives his information from other sources. Perhaps this is the reason why he has a
negative view on slums. This is illustrated in his piece Planet of Slums as he discusses the politics,
urban development, and methods within the slums population. According to Davis, slums and
urban poverty have and will continue to significantly increase. While doing so, the gap in
exclusion and inequality will grow. As a result, this will weaken urban elites in their work to utilize
cities as engines of growth. Slums and slum population are classified as those who are living below
the poverty lines, all while, being associated with overcrowding, having poor or informal housing,
inadequate access to safe water and sanitation, and insecurity of tenure. This is being recognized as
an international phenomenon. To emphasis this phenomenon, approximately half of the slum
population in most

  • 2. Scottie Pippen Research Paper When thinking of basketball, what is it that we really think of? Just a ball, a basketball court, and final scores? Do we take the time to think of players who made this sport really famous and made a huge impact on it? Did you know that the very first NBA game Scottie Pippen ever saw was the first NBA game he played in. Scottie Maurice Pippen, who was also known as Pip was a phenomenal athlete who played the forward position for the Chicago Bulls, the team whom he won 6 championship titles with. Pippen was born on September 25, 1965 in Hamburg, Arkansas to Preston and Ethel Pippen. The youngest child of 12 children, Scottie spent most of his childhood time playing Basketball and Football. Scottie Pippen was the type of child who always wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, he has also worked as a special assistant coach for Los Angeles Lakers and former team, Chicago Bulls. Along his career, Pippen s name began to appear on more than just sports pages and magazines. In January of 1944 Scottie Pippen was arrested for possession of a firearm, although the charges were later on dropped after the superstar intimated allegations of racism on the arresting officers. He was also charged with domestic abuse on his fiance Yvette Deleone and a paternity suit as well by model Sonya Roby that cited Scottie as the father of her daughter, and costed the athlete $10,000 despite his denial of the charge. Even though Scottie Pippens accomplishments have been somewhat overshadowed by great times and major setbacks in his personal life, Pippen became one of the greatest power forwards in professional basketball, his success inspired many people and goes on to show that a person is not defined by where he/she comes from or how they were brought up. Scottie Pippen has continued to distinguish himself and his authority among younger, much less experienced players from all over the world. His multiple NBA records, Olympic medals, and other countless accolades will forever speak for him. This goes on to prove that no matter what you go through in your early life, you can ... The Identifying Factors in the Development of Aggression and Violence in Youth Today Tragic events like the shootings at Columbine High School capture public attention and concern, but are not typical of youth violence. Most adolescent homicides are committed in inner cities and outside of school. They most frequently involve an interpersonal dispute and a single victim. On average, six or seven youths are murdered in this country each day. Most of these are inner city minority youths. Such acts of violence are tragic and contribute to a climate of fear in schools and communities. Research findings are identifying factors in the development of aggressive and antisocial behavior from early childhood to adolescence and into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Successful early adjustment at home increases the likelihood that children will overcome such individual challenges and not become violent. However, exposure to violent or aggressive behavior within a family or peer group may influence a child in that direction. Types and Severity of Antisocial Behavior The types and severity of antisocial behaviors exhibited by youths vary greatly and include lying, bullying, truancy, starting fights, vandalism, theft, assault, rape, and homicide. As a rule, the older the age of onset, the fewer the number of antisocial youths who will engage in seriously aggressive and violent behavior. Longitudinal studies show that many children who engage in antisocial behavior in childhood continue to do so at least through adolescence. Longitudinal research has identified types of youth who progress to adolescent antisocial behavior, multiple pathways through which it develops and persists, and the multiple factors that shape this risk. This research has identified two types of life course trajectories: life course persistent, which is viewed as a form of psycho pathology, and adolescence limited, which is identified only in select social situations. The distinction between these two types of individuals is very useful, both as a way of thinking about developmental knowledge and as a tool for targeting the right interventions for antisocial youth. Research in this area has generated evidence for this way of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Relationship Between Equity And The Common Law Equity has been described as a mysterious creature that lies distinctly alongside the common law. In considering the statement, there is an almost linear reversal in which the remedies in equity procure a type of right not necessarily available in the common law. This peculiar jurisdiction has created consistent controversy especially in regards to the fusion of the common lawand equity. To understand further, this essay will consider the relationship between equity and the common law. The development of equity alongside the common law through its history and intention, and application in case law will be imperative in the discussion of the statement. In conjunction with an analysis of fusion, it will become apparent that equitable damages were enlivened, separate to, in unfair circumstances where no rights/damages existed within the common law. In trying to tread the murky waters of the distinction yet the procedural fusion of equity and common law, the contention of this essay becomes apparent. Effectively, this essay aims to highlight that the history, intention, application and fusion fallacies regarding equity, all which point to an assertion that rights in equity are indeed the product of its remedies. Whether they are merely two streams of jurisdiction, though they run in the same channel, run side by side and do not mingle their waters , is yet to be seen. This is due to the fact that we do not have a lot of sources which depict agricultural workers. This suggests that they were not seen as important. However, the Minoans knew that agriculture was important. This is made evident by the fact that they placed votive offerings at sanctuaries that depicted animals and plants. This suggests that they were concerned with breeding animal and growing crops. Additionally, they redesigned the Minoan palaces during the Second Palace Period so that they could hold more agricultural products. He was immensely popular, especially among younger readers for his work; he experimented radically with form, punctuation, spelling and syntax. The majority of his poems turn to the subjects of love, war, and sex, with such simplistic language, abandoning traditional techniques to create new means of poetic expression. Death and forever describes the speaker s feelings, like a sudden plunge in his heart because his love is so deep, aching and yet so full of hope and wonder. E.E. Cummings use of language is quite ambigious as this is only one of many possible interpretations. His use of diction expresses the love in so gentle a way, yet with such powerful and passionate meaning, effectively captivating the reader; it combines vivid images with intense use of language. The entire poem is a metaphor; the narrator is comparing his lover s qualities, to that of a rose, though it never directly mentions the word love , the essence of love is worded beautifully. There is constant imagery of nature; the flowers closing and opening, the seasons and elements and references to the sense of touch, you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens . This reminds us of the closeness of the lovers and emphasizes the spontaneity of the lovers, their preference for intuition or feeling over thought. There is also repetitive use of the words close and open , E.E. Cummings is expressing the power of a woman over the man who loves her. She can open him as spring opens a rose, or close him as snow closes a flower; again, the use of language conjure images of nature, suggesting the vitality of their love. • 14. Hagar Leaving Abraham s House In Genesis Hagar and Ishmael s story in Genesis is often understood in the light of Isaac being the rightful heir to Abraham s inheritance and legacy through the abandonment and expulsion of Hagar and Ishmael. At first glance, the story portrays Hagar as an outsider, an Egyptian servant, who is beneath Sarah, the mistress; thus, this difference in position justifies Hagar and Ishmaels abandonment from Abraham s house. A closer look at the story evokes the reader s sympathy for Hagar and Ishmael s unfair treatment since Ishmael is the firstborn son. In the first account, the text states that Sarah s inability to bear Abraham a child led her to take matters into her own hands by giving her Egyptian maidservant, Hagar, to Abraham as a concubine so that he can bear him a child through Hagar. After Hagar and Abraham cohabited, she became pregnant, which caused Sarah to be disturbed by her status in Hagar s eyes. Sarah complained to Abraham and he told her to deal with it as she thinks fit as Hagar is her maidservant. This caused Sarah to treat Hagar harshly and resulted in Hagar fleeing from her master s house to run from Sarah. An angel of YHWH found her near a spring on the road to Shur and told her to return to her master s house and submit to the harsh treatment, while also instilling (?) some blessings to her. This narrative ended with the birth of Ishmael when Abraham was eighty six years old. The second text in Genesis 21 begins with the fulfillment of God s promise to Sarah with the birth of Isaac when Abraham was a hundred years old. Sarah was delighted with Isaac s birth and was laughing at the people who mocked her for her inability to bear Abraham a son. During Isaac s feast, she saw Ishmael playing with Isaac, which saddened her and she demanded that Hagar and Ishmael be cast out as she did not want Ishmael, the son of a slave, to share the same inheritance as Isaac. Abraham was greatly distressed by Sarah s request, but God told him to not worry and follow Sarah s demand for it is through Isaac that offspring shall be continued for you (Gen. 21:12) and He will bless Ishmael by [making] a nation of him (21:13). The next morning, with God s instructions, Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away and gave them some bread and water. • 15. A Research Study On The Frisian Language For my research, I conducted an analysis of the Frisian language. Frisian is a part of the Proto Indo European language family, specifically the Germanic branch in the Western Germanic tradition. Frisian developed in the Western Germanic family and then it grew and changed from Old Frisian into Modern Frisian. Frisian, unlike English, has no intervening steps between Old Frisian and Modern Frisian: e.g. English developed from Old English, to Middle English, to Modern English. According to classical sources, the Frisians traditionally inhabited the area between the Rhine or Scheldt in the West and the Ems or Weser in the East. West Frisian is the largest and most viable of the Frisian speech communities. The most striking fact about West Frisian, as opposed to East and North Frisian, is its relative uniformity dialectally speaking (Markey: 2011). It is in the realm of phonology that West Frisian evinces the greatest evolution from that of Old Frisian. The morphology, while further simplified in directions foreshadowed even in Classical Old Frisian, is not radically changed. In the literature it is quite generally assumed that Old Frisian is an SOV language, i.e. a language with a subject (S) complement (O) verb (V) order in simplex sentence structure. In this observational statement, V refers to non finite verbs essentially, since it is assumed that these forms are indicative of the basic position of verbs (Studies in West Frisian Grammar: 2010). According to the same book, it was noted that a number of cases of grammatical influence of Dutch on Frisian were discussed, especially regarding a morphological example of this influence which is a change in the system of Frisian diminutive formation. The syntax of the Frisian verbal complex differs in several ways from the Dutch one. According to Besten and Edmondsen s paper from 1983, Frisian shares an interesting property with other West Germanic languages in that main verbs are accompanied by auxiliary verbs and/or modals occur in one cluster in sentence final ... I think back at events in my life, as an example the births of my children that caused me to grow into a mother and the woman I am today. However, there is a moment in my life, after my children, I was psychologically lost. This moment changed my life forever! I was married for thirteen years with five children. During these thirteen years, I would be the head of the house hold and ensured structure in the house. My husband at the time, was an addict and in/out of prison. We attempt counseling and all types of treatment. The last six years together, we were very involved in church. My faith in God grew and I believed my husband could be delivered from this addition. I had to be the strong one in the family, the rock, the foundation of our house to give the perception to people we were okay. After trying everything possible, I realized, only he can be in recovery of addiction, I cannot make him. I had to make the decision to break up my family for the safety of my children. After my separation, I became angry. My faith was questionable, and I was angry at God. My family was torn, we lived with a friend in a small room. My step children had to live with their mom because I could not afford to keep them. I no longer felt strong, or had structure in my house. The feeling of failure and the mourning of the loss of my family was overwhelming. I began to drink alcohol every day. My daily routine would consist of going to work and as soon as I got out I would stop and get a Smirnoff Black, go home, cook for the three kids, leave work out, drink and go out, go home at two am. The next six months, I did not care about anything or anyone. I allowed these feelings to consume me. In September 2013, the first week, I was driving drunk, I swerved and ran my mirror in to the wall. The second week, I was drunk and could not leave the parking lot of a club, until the following morning. The third week, I was driving drunk to a friend s house, and I remember fighting with him at the door way, and he asked me to leave. This is an opinion held by Robert Jenson who states, you can deny any offered construal of how the atonement works, or all of them altogether, or even deny that any construal is possible, and be a perfectly orthodox believer . Due to this, over the years theologians have formulated a myriad of types, models and theories. Alister McGrath helpfully groups these into four themes (the cross as a sacrifice, the cross as a victory, the cross and forgiveness, and the cross as a moral example). It is by these four that we will divide the atonement and address the question. The task in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The confusing issue is that the atoning forgiveness is seemingly achieved in a way, barely different to the aforementioned models. This model certainly differentiates itself in some ways but ultimately it uses the same collection of phrases: satisfaction, substitution, representation, etc. The aspect of this model that separates it from the others can be considered a strength. The cross and forgiveness emphasises the desire for God to find a way to forgive, a way to make things right, because of what God has done in Christ forgiveness is ready waiting for every sinner that repents . This is a comparative strength, especially in the context of mission. From an external perspective the cross as a sacrifice can be seen as a God who wants to justly kill or seeks vengeance; the cross as a victory can be seen as a God who deceives or is not omnipotent; The cross and forgiveness can be seen as a God who is reaching out to make things right with us, his creation. A carnation usually symbolizes purity of love and affection and a topaz is a mineral that comes in many colors. The first two lines indicate that his love for his partner is not the same as the love one has for materialistic things or flowers. The line I love you as one loves dark things, secretly, between the shadow and the soul. Neruda suggest what his emotional placement of love is. It is deep in his soul and heart. Another key development in the evolution of behavior modification was the work of Hans Eysenck and his colleagues in England in the 1950s. Eysenck defined behavior modification as the application of modern learning theory to the treatment of behavioral and emotional problems. He held that, in contrast to traditional psychoanalytic procedures, the efficacy of behavior modification procedures could be verified through experiments. The third major development in the evolution of behavior modification was the publication in 1953 of B. F. Skinner s Science and Human Behavior. This work heralded a philosophical shift from the search for inner causes of behavior to an emphasis on the measurement and modification of observable behavior. A fundamental tenet of Skinner s radical behaviorism is that the probability of a behavior is related directly to the nature of the environmental consequences that follow performance of that behavior. From this basic tenet he derived a set of procedures for modifying behavior by a method called operant conditioning. Specifically, behavior is strengthened, or increased in frequency, when followed by either a positive consequence (positive reinforcement) or removal of a negative consequence (negative reinforcement). Comparing Julius Caesar And Antony Octavian and Antony No contemporaries could have possibly known for sure as to who the victor would be from the conflict that arose between Gaius Julius Ceasar Octavianus, Octavian, and Marcus Antonius, Antony. However, knowing what the ultimate outcome of the struggle was, one may be able to look back into history and offer key reasons as to why Octavian was able to defeat Antony. Ultimately, I believe there was not one key reason for Octavian victory. It was a combination of Octavian s proximity to Rome, his favor with the citizens, and the elimination of his opposition at home that all combined to allow his eventual triumph. Overlooking some smaller details, it is first important to know that after Julius Ceasar s assassination that Octavian was named his heir and returned to Italy to claim this inheritance. From here, he gathered military power and allowed the senate to use him, in order to advance his political position, and he was sent to fight against a rebellious Antony. At this point, Octavian did not try to decimate Antony s forces, instead he proposed and ultimately formed the second triumvirate with Antony and Lepidus as the other heads of the state (Wells 13). From here, the Roman territories were divided into areas of governorship with Antony taking the east, Octavian the west, and Lepidus had the Africa territories (Wells 17). The Importance Of Wireless Systems The wireless technology recorded the magnificent growth since its foundation as the result there has been an surprise growth in the number of users using wireless all over the world during the last decade. As the number of user increases, the system operators regularly deploy smaller cells to increase the system capacity. As the cell size reduces, the crossing of cell boundary increases which results, a higher handoff rate. Handoff process enables a cellular system to provide such a facility by transferring an active call from one cell to another. Further, in addition to voice communication the use of many other services such as multimedia, e mail and data services came into existence. Therefore to increase the capacity, the service area... • 38. Langston Hughes Silhouette Many writers of the past and even today have attempted to openly talk of African American racial biases, hatred and aggression issues. Langston Hughes was very successful in shinning the light in this subject through his poem Silhouette which was written in 1949. Through his selective yet literal choice of words Hughes created a powerful and haunting image of African Americaninjustice and atrocities. The original context of Silhouette was an indirectly stated and strong outcry that persuaded the reader to openly view the injustice towards blacks, in this case the event of hanging a black man. The poem was really powerful in part because of the hostile era during the early and late 1940s where being near white women was forbidden and for which several African Americans especially in the South were lynched or brutally punished. This aspect grabbed the essential audience and created the perfect atmosphere to deliver his message through the poem, because all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Human Flaws In The Book Of Genesis Genesis, the first book of the Hebrew Torah, is for many people a book of innocent stories about the Creation, and the noble Patriarchs that follow the will of God. However, Genesis has much more to provide to humankind than stories; whether or not one takes Genesis as history, it does give insight into the lives and customs of the primeval Jewish people. Fundamentally, the Book of Genesisfocuses on the family. The Book follows the descendants of Adam through the Patriarchs, offering a look into each family, and the dynamics surrounding them. Genesis, and much of the Torah, are unique in that it portrays the Lord s chosen not as upright and noble people, but people with deep, distinctly human flaws, flaws that many families today can relate... Whether or not the people of that culture took the concept of a one man one woman marriage as tradition, or something to be valued, it is clear that the format of a marriage does not matter when heirs are at stake. Genesis states that Abram was 86 years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael, meaning Sarah gave Abraham to Hagar after a monogamous marriage of many decades (16:16) Now, as Sarah obviously felt jealousy, the need for an heir to Abraham s name bore greater weight than their relationship. As seen in the story of Lot and his daughters, the need for an heir even drove some to commit incest, an act most likely seen as indecent. p Like all works of art. the portrait is a system of signs; it is often an ideogram of public meanings condensed into the image of a human face. Roman portrait sculpture from the Republic through the late Empire the second century BCE. to the sixth CE constitutes what is surely the most remarkable body of portrait art ever created. Its shifting montage of abstractions from human appearance and character forms a language in which the history of a whole society can be read. These are the portraits of the conservative nobility (and of their middle class emulators) (luring the death agonies of the Roman republic. • 44. Doctrine of Ultra Vires in Public Law INTRODUCTION: In a welfare state a government undertakes many ventures for the benefit of the people. This invariably means, powers have to be delegated to sub ordinate bodies for the smooth functioning and administration of these bodies and ventures, as the Parliament cannot run all these bodies on its own. As the state s involvement in public affairs increase, more and more power is devolved and as a consequence the need to regulate and restrict this power too increases. In doing so there is a delicate balance to be preserved. On one hand it has to be ensured that the authorities and bodies do not exceed their powers and thus abuse them and on the other hand they should have the powers which are reasonably required to make them effective... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, the Court also realizes that for the proper functioning of these public bodies, powers that are reasonably within their purview for the attaining of the objectives of the Parliament s intention in promulgating the statute should not be deprived to them by the application of the Ultra Vires doctrine. This has been aptly pointed out by Keith Davis in relation to Local Authorities as follows: If the application (of the doctrine of ultra vires) becomes too lax Local Authorities will enjoy a greater power than the Parliament intended they should have and if it was relaxed altogether their freedom of action would become absolute and their exercise of power would be quite arbitrary.... If on the other hand the application becomes too strict, local authorities will enjoy a narrower power than what the Parliament intended they should have; and ultimately they would exercise no independent power at all. Then Local Government would be transformed into Local Arm of Central Government administration, if it did not wither away completely. To achieve the required balance, the Courts have developed certain rules which is called by some authors as the Necessarily Incidentals Doctrine . Urban Poverty In Planet Of Slums By Mike Davis In the passage, Planet of Slums by Mike Davis, the author has a dystopic view on urbanization and argues that urban poverty is increasing and has a negative impact on the world. His dystopic vision can be written off as a society with undesirable traits such as poverty, oppression, and overcrowding. Davis s vision on these people s lifestyle can be compared and contrasted with Robert Neuwirth s view of this lifestyle in his passage, Shadow Cities and the film Sleep Dealer by Alex Rivera. The author Mike Davis has done countless research on the topic of urban poverty. In his studies he collects and receives his information from other sources. Perhaps this is the reason why he has a negative view on slums. This is illustrated in his piece Planet of Slums as he discusses the politics, urban development, and methods within the slums population. According to Davis, slums and urban poverty have and will continue to significantly increase. While doing so, the gap in exclusion and inequality will grow. As a result, this will weaken urban elites in their work to utilize cities as engines of growth. Slums and slum population are classified as those who are living below the poverty lines, all while, being associated with overcrowding, having poor or informal housing, inadequate access to safe water and sanitation, and insecurity of tenure.
