Lacks And Henrietta Lacks
Imagine having no rights in life. Imagine one day you get sick, and you go to the hospital to get better,
but you get taken advantage of. How would all that make you feel? Henrietta Lacks was an African
American woman. During her time, women didn t have equal rights like men did, and African
Americans didn t have equal rights like white people did. Since Henrietta was an African American
woman she had it rough, there were times that everyday tasks were a struggle. In 1951 she was
diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer. She was treated at John Hopkins University, where doctors
didn t do all they could even if they said that was the case, and were Doctor George Gey took her cells
from her cervix without consent. I watched the Law and Order episode titled Immortal , I found it to
be extremely similar to a book I read titled The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
even though the show said in the beginning that this was not based on a true story. There were many
similarities that I spotted between Immortal and Henrietta Lacks. Some of the similarities were within
the storyline, others were in characters. Henrietta had six siblings and five kids. There are three of her
kids that I want to talk about specifically, Deborah, Zakariyya, and Elsie. Deborah s learning of
everything is the main point in the book but also having the readers learn what happened to Henrietta
and her family is extremely important. Deborah was Hennrietta and Day s 4th

W. E. B. Dubois Dark Princess
People, no matter their race or color, have always wanted to be successful, live comfortably, and
provide for their families. While the definitions for success and comfort have changed over time, a
constant truth is that hard work and sacrifice are required to reach these goals. Moving from an
individual to the societal or political level, for many races and nations, progress can measure success.
Ethnic groups want progress towards equality, while nations, particularly those in Asia, Africa, and the
Middle East, want progress towards economic and industrial progress towards leveling with the West;
they also wish for political respect and autonomy. Since the end of the colonial era, there has been a
massive struggle by previously colonized nations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examining W.E.B. Dubois novel Dark Princess, the characters of Sammy Scott and Sara Andrews
exemplify individualism completely. The honorable Sammy Scott was a leading black politician in
Chicago. Dubois described Sammy s beginnings: ...in 1910 by selling the right to gamble, keep houses
of prostitution, and commit petty theft, to certain men, white and black, who paid him in cash (Dubois,
pg. 82). Sammy is completely corrupt, wanting power and money for himself. He misses his
opportunity as a politician to help his district, make positive changes that could improve the lives of
the black people all around him. Instead he chooses to be a gangster, promoting gambling and
prostitution, and maintaining a criminal undertone in Chicago. Sara Andrews was equally calculating.
Dubois describes Sara on page 84 as having a good intellect without moral scruples and a clear idea of
the communal and social value of virginity, respectability, and good clothes . Dubois is saying she is
cunning, and in tune with what is expected in society. She knows what she needs to do to be
successful, and like Sammy, she wants all of the power for herself. Sammy and Sara both lived a dog
eat dog existence, and were willing to sacrifice others on their way to the top. It is important to note
that Dubois recognized individualism as a major obstacle for racial progress, and Sammy and Sara
demonstrated the issues stemming from individualism in Dark Princess. Unfortunately, others failed to
capitalize on Dubois foresight. Today there is an equal lack of cohesiveness amongst African
Americans, due to varying socioeconomic levels. At the time of civil rights, a black middle class was
able to forge ahead and have success. This professional level is still here today, but what also exists
today is the bottom of

Vending Machines in Schools

November 2, 2009 Obesity is a serious and growing problem among adolescents in the United States.
In 1999, 13% of children aged 6 to 11 years and 14% of adolescents aged 12 to 19 years in the United
States were overweight. This prevalence has nearly tripled for adolescents in the past 2 decades ( Fact
Sheet ). A key cause for concern is that overweight adolescents are at higher risk of medical conditions
such as hyperlipidemia, glucose intolerance, hypertension, and sleep apnea. Also, overweight
adolescents are more likely to be overweight as adults, and they are at higher risk of cardiovascular
disease and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, vending machines are available to adolescents throughout the day. The availability of
vending machines gives students a good alternative to the cafeteria. The cafeteria is usually crowded
and hence vending machines allow students to skip the lines and grab a quick bite. Also some students
may not be able to get to the cafeteria before it closes for various reasons; vending machines provide
them with the convenience. They also allow for students to grab a drink after vigorous exercise.
However, a problem with all this is that it may disrupt regularly scheduled meals. This in turn greatly
disturbs the natural biorhythms of the body. Because the body performs certain functions on a time
schedule, irregular eating habits disrupt the natural clock work of bodily processes ( Is Eating
Between Meals Healthy? ). As mentioned above, vending machines are loaded with junk food. Junk
food is known to increase blood sugar levels which can lead to behavior problems and impaired
learning ability in children. This is sometimes called the spike and crash syndrome. It is defined as the
rapid ups and downs of children s blood sugar levels when they eat too much sugar and overly
processed carbs, especially on an empty stomach (Lapine). The children start acting as if they ve had

Automatic Active phase selector
Abstract:
Phase absence is a very common and severe problem in any industry, home or office. Many times one
or two phases may not be live in three phase supply. Because of this, many times, some electrical
appliances will be on in one room and OFF in another room. This creates a big disturbance to our
routine work.
This project is designed to check the availability of any live phase, and the load will be connected to
the particular live phase only. Even a single phase is available, and then also, the load will be in ON
condition.
The aim of this project is to construct a single phasing monitor and prevention system using 8bit
microcontroller. Anti single phasing relays or single phasing preventer are required for critical loads

Analysis Of Augustine s The Confessions
Monnica With thirteen books making up the Confessions, it is hard to say what had played the most
important role in Augustine s life. Obviously, a crucial point in the story was Augustine s conversion
or return to Christianity. Readers see this as something Augustine was struggled with, from stealing
fruit to joining the Manicheans. Through all of his struggles about his faith, his mother Monnica was
devoted to his conversion. In this brief paper, I will discuss who Monnica was, how she played a role
in her son s conversion, and how she continues to influences others through the Confessions. Born in
331 CE, Monnica came from a Catholic family from Thagaste. When Monnica reached marriageable
age she was married to Patricius, a Roman Pagan. While Patricius had many faults, such as being hot
tempered and being unfaithful to his wife, Monnica always turned to God to show he husband mercy
(C. 9.9.19). From what we know, Monnica was mother to many children. We can account for at least
3, Augustine, a brother, and a sister. While the children grew up in a mixed religious household,
Monnica was persistent on her children receiving a Christian education. At one point during
Confessions, Augustine writes my tender little heart had drunk in that name, the name of my Savior
and your Son, with my mother s milk, and in my deepest heart I still held on to it (C. 3.4.8). Augustine
grew up knowing the God of his mother, that much is obvious when Augustine grew ill as a child.

James is a loving, solution oriented and a reflected person. The book is written by himself, like a
documentary. It s a period of a few years, containing the moment he met Bob to he got the opportunity
to write this book. James is dynamic, and changes a lot through the book in a good way, mostly
because of Bob. First of all, James is a very loving person, from the moment he met Bob he has taken
care of him. When they first met, Bob was hurt, and James didn t earn much by busking, but anyways
he paid for Bob s medical attention. After looking out for Bob for a while and seeking for his owner,

Bioterrorism
Bioterrorism is terrorism involving the intentional release or dissemination of biological agents. These
agents are bacteria, viruses, or toxins, and may be in a naturally occurring or a human modified form.
A bioterrorism attack is the deliberate release of viruses, bacteria, toxins or other harmful agents used
to cause illness or death in people, animals, or plants. These agents are typically found in nature, but it
is possible that they could be mutated or altered to increase their ability to cause disease, make them
resistant to current medicines, or to increase their ability to be spread into the environment. Biological
agents can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Already existing systems of good agricultural practice, good manufacturing practice and hazard
analysis and critical control point (HACCP) can be used. Government agencies, working with the
private sector, have regulatory and advisory responsibility in promoting safe food measures by
industry, including good agricultural and good manufacturing practices. Surveillance, preparedness,
and response elements specific to food safety, should be included in existing national emergency
response plans to achieve balance between threats to food safety and other threats. A new threat for the
food chain is the introduction of a chemical, biological, or radio nuclear agent into food during
production, processing, distribution or preparation of food. The responsibility to avoid this lies in the
hands of the food industry. Many foods, such as fish, meat, poultry, fruit and vegetables, are consumed
with minimal processing. Other, such as cereal products and cooking oils, undergo considerable 4
processing before reaching the consumer. Vulnerable to sabotage are the points where food changes
hands. The Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002, directs
the Secretary of Health and Human Services to take steps to protect the public from a threatened or

How Collective Bargaining Agreements Effect The Players...
Most people around the world enjoy sporting events. These events are considered great entertainment
options. So what does professional baseball, football, basketball, and most other companies around the
United States have in common? If you guessed Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA), Unions,
arbitration and strikes/work stoppages you are absolutely correct. In the coming paragraphs, labor
relations within the world of sports will be discussed from their unions to how collective bargaining
agreements effect both the players and the owners. What is a Collective Bargaining Agreement? CBA
is a written and signed document between a company and a labor organization specifying the terms
and conditions of employment for a specified period of time. The written agreement is then a contract
between the employer and the employees. Collective bargaining is a continuous process, beginning
with the negotiation of a contract through the entirety of the contract with almost daily interpretation
and administration of its provisions. Collective bargaining and unions have had a considerable effect
on fans through professional sports. Because of these contract negotiations, athletes in recent years
have benefited from an increasing share of ticket and television profits. Collective bargaining has
resulted in strikes and lockouts and has disrupted several seasons through cancellation of games or
even ending a season. The televising of sporting events has become the largest source of revenue

Slumdog Millionaire came out at the end of 2008, people instantly fell in love with it. In 2009 it was
nominated for ten Academy Awards and won eight, which was the most won by any film that year.
Everyone seemed to be very drawn to the feel good aspect of the movie where a poor kid like Jamal,
the main character of Boyle s film, can overcome the massive obstacles thrown in front of his path to
success and eventually come out with the girl, 100 million Rupees and the love of the nation where he

This sense of being better and more powerful than Eastern countries that is felt in England and the US,
leads us to expect social injustices like the ones shown in Slumdog Millionaire are a normal
occurrence those living in the third world. The fact that Jamal also escapes his fate of living a life of
poverty only gives a somewhat false sense of hope to people in this situation for the movies viewers
and helps to massage (Koehler, 454) their view on the harsh reality of a culture they barely know.
Miles also talks about how the movie plays on our false sense of cultural reality in India, she quotes
the Mumbai Mirror about how the term slumdog is not a term that is widely recognized in India. They
explain that, It appears to be a British Invention to describe a poor Dharavi kid in a derogatory way.
The use of this coined and somewhat derogatory term only helps in supporting the sense of western
dominance over the east by classifying Jamal and many people in similar socioeconomic situation as
slumdogs. The authors are both very much in agreement on their theory that one reason Slumdog
Millionaire was so popular was because of a combination of ignorance in the targeted westernized

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Survey
Disadvantages of using Surveys The significance of the data can become neglected if the researcher
focuses too much on the range of coverage to the exclusion of an adequate account of the implications
of those data for relevant issues, problems, or theories. The data that are produced are likely to lack
details or depth on the topic being investigated. Securing a high response rate to a survey can be hard
to control, particularly when it is carried out by post, but is also difficult when the survey is carried out
face to face or over the telephone. 4.1.4 Administrations of Surveys The final survey instrument was

population has its strengths and weaknesses which will be discussed below. When collecting from
participants there were difficulties everyone printed their copy and handed over. 6.1.3 Advantages of
Questionnaire A questionnaire is less expensive; it saves time and financial resources. However, if it is
administered collectively to the selected population under study becomes expensive method of data
collection, because if your respondents are not living in the same area as you, money will be spent for
transport and travelling from one place to another will be a waste of time that should have been spend
on doing something else. It offers anonymity as it does not require a face to face interaction between
an interviewer and a respondent. It is mostly relevant to some sensitive questions and it gives a better
opportunity to obtain accurate information.According to Wayne Stuart (2001) not all questionnaire can

Jurassic Park Ethical Issues
The fourth film in the Jurassic Park series was released the summer of 2015, 22 years after the first
movie, Jurassic Park, was released. Movie goers had long awaited a reprisal of the series and flocked
to the theaters. As of the end of the June, the newest movie in the franchise had already grossed nearly
$507 million in North America alone and had a worldwide total of well over a billion dollars.
The overall concept of the movie is a theme park where dinosaurs come to life. Of course, everything
possible goes wrong, as it will when you mess with mother nature. If you haven t yet seen the movie,
not only should you see it, but you can learn a lot about how to manage (and not manage) your blog

What you can learn from the movie is that there is a natural order to things. For example, if you go to
other blogger s sites and start posting that people should come visit your site, you are not going to get

Instead, remember that there is a process to interacting with other bloggers. You shouldn t comment

The Teacher Had Put On Board
Slightly and squeaky! The door to the classroom flew open as I burst into the room and sat in my
usual seat. This was the day I was going to learn how to do polynomial long division. Good morning.
The professor said, as she walked into the classroom. Almost every one of the students had at least a
pencil and notebook, copying notes that the teacher had put on the board. After writing the notes
down, I said to myself, let me try to do one of the problems that the teacher had put on board.
Surprisingly, I could not start the problem because I did not even understand the first step. Therefore, I
stopped and wait for the professor.
After the teacher did the first problem, but she did not do or put all the steps on the board, she skipped
some of it. She said you guys should have known how to do this stuff already. This is not an
elementary or grade school, so I am not going to do or write every little step. Without paying close

I had to change the way the problem was writing and to look at that first number of the guy that I was

The Art Of Budgeting During The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a time of hardship and sacrifice for many families across Canada. With
many unemployed married men out roaming across Canada, looking for any means of income, it was
up to housewives to make ends meet with what little they had. Were Canadian housewives the reason
why many families survived the 1930s? To answer this question I will look at how Canadian
housewives managed the family finances, influenced change in their communities and made sacrifices
to make sure their families could make it to the next month. In my essay I will first look at how many
Canadian women mastered the art of careful budgeting during the great depression. Much like the
character Rose Anna, from Gabrielle Roy s novel The Tin Flute, mothers all

Analysis Of Robert Frost s Birches
The most misinterpreted element in Robert Frost poetry is his use of nature in a symbolic way. Frost is
not describing the inner workings of nature as we see it all around us, but about exploring human
psychology. For example, Frost uses Homely farmers, rural scenes, landscapes, and the natural world
to epitomize a psychological struggle with an everyday experience that is often met with courage, will,
and purpose; contextually, using Frost s own life and personal psychology. Frost s attitude in his
poetry is honest, accepting, and stoical, nature is just used as a background. Frost usually begins his
poems by delineate an observation of something in nature, then moves on toward a connection with
some human concern or situation. He uses the natural world as symbolism in his poetry then suggests
bigger, deeper, more complex ideas. In Robert Frost s poetry he is not purely writing about nature,
rather he is using nature as a tool to compose ideas relating to human nature.
In Robert Frost s poem Birches he uses nature as imagery to convey his disdain for the pressures of
social life. Frost does not specify which social burden he is referring too, but we can piece together
parts of this poem and derive at his true meaning. The language Frost uses in Birches tell us there is a
burden such as, ... Often you must have seen them...Loaded with ice... Such heaps of broken glass to
sweep away... They are dragged to the withered bracken by the load, ...though once they are bowed...

The Whale Rider Hero Journey
The theory The ritual of a hero by Lord Raglan fits Paikea life exactly because it fits most of the
criteria of the theory. In the movie, The Whale Rider Paikea life follows four of the six stages talked
about. The stages include the situation of the hero birth are quite unusual and or traumatic. The father
unsuccessfully tries to do away with the infant hero. The child is raised by surrogate parents, but upon
maturing, he returns to the land of his father. The hero battles his father and is victorious. (Indick,

Smells Like Teen Spirit
Smells Like Teen Spirit is an analysis essay written by a Virginia Commonwealth University student,
Matt Compton. In his essay, Compton analyzes the lyrics of the song, Smells Like Teen Spirit
performed by Nirvana and written by Kurt Cobain. Smells Like Teen Spirit , released in 1991,
received many music awards. Although some could not interpret the song s meaning, it was exactly
what many youths needed to hear . By drawing attention to specific verses and changes in rhythm,
Compton applies that the song articulated the emotions of America s youth. Compton expresses that
Cobain had written and performed a song about his own confusion, and in the process he had
connected with young people all over the United States. Compton s main ... Show more content on

The more abundant of the two is ethos, seen in almost every paragraph. From the introduction where
he quotes Tom Moon to the conclusion where he quotes Michael Azerrad, Compton cites multiple
credible authorities to strengthen his points. He also includes his own experiences about how he,
himself, was one of the young adults who connected with the lyrics of the song. As for pathos,
Compton generally tries to connect with his audience by stating how the word contagious is used in
the lyrics. Because no one wants to be around that person, they will look at the person with disgust, as
if they have some highly contagious disease. Although sufficient in ethos and pathos, logos were not
used in Compton s essay. Since this is an analysis of a song, it does not affect the effect of the essay. I
do not think that Compton has adequately accomplished his purpose. Although he attempted to
provide the audience with bountiful information that Smells Like Teen Spirit conveys emotions that
relate to young adults, his essay contained an ethical fallacy of dogmatism. Even though he does
attempt to acknowledge the opposing views by saying, Cobain s lyrics do in fact carry a confused
message... , his attitude implied that Smells Like Teen Spirit does have meanings, but that some do not

Case Study Of Weald And Downland Open Air Museum
Weald and Downland open air museum is the place that provides ancient buildings and lifestyle of the

civil engineers is the grid shell. The Downland grid shell was built as a workshop for the museum and
let the workmen to fix their houses or to study their own projects. Grid shell was made by timber to
form in a triple sandglass shape without column and beam. The important fact about the Downland
grid shell is it is noted to be the first twice layered lumber grid shell in the UK.(Harris et al.,
2003)This would mean that grid shell must be unique and difficult to form the shape. In this essay I
will explain about material for building grid shell and construction steps with some engineer
knowledges. Grid shell is the structure that has a property like a shell shape. This would mean that
grid shell must obtain only compression force and the force is allowed to pass through the arch of the
grid shell. The benefit of geometric shape of grid shell is it provides stability to the structure.
Therefore grid shell can stand itself without any supports(Paoli, 2007). In order to accomplish the grid
shell client(museum) had to consult with architecture and engineering company. After that oak lath

Female Genitalia Mutilation ( Fgm )
Female Circumcision: Female Genitalia Mutilation As a nursing student in my first experience
working in a labor ward, I witnessed a lady birthing a baby with part of the birth canal scarred and
narrow due to her circumcision at puberty. To say that the birthing process was hard to watch is an
understatement. As the labor progressed with no sight of the baby coming out naturally, she was
offered a C section, which she vehemently turned down. She said, I don t want to be the joke of my
peers. I have to do it like others did it. Watching this, made me more curious and passionate to find the
origin of this practice and hopefully, educate the practitioners leading to its eradication. Some may
argue that the after effects of female genital mutilation (FGM) are not new. I hope that my research
into the origin of this practice will help the public health community understand how it can help these
women and eradicate this practice. For everything that has a beginning, most of the time, has an end.

The Catholic Church Should Accept That Gay Marriage
The Catholic Church should accept that gay marriage is morally acceptable and doesn t contradict
their beliefs. Gay marriage has been a topic of controversy ever since the 1970 s. May of 1970 to be
exact. Around This time two men named Richard John Jack Baker and James Michael McConnell in
Minnesota applied to Hennepin County District Court clerk Gerald Nelson for a marriage license.
They were denied because they both were men. This issue of two people of the same sex getting
married is still a topic of debate to a lot of people even after the U.S. Supreme court made gay
marriage legal in all 50 states in 20151. The Catholic Church teaches to treat homosexuals with
respect, compassion, and sensitivity. That every act of hate, violence, and persecution toward them is
condemned. The Church doesn t view homosexuals no poorly than they do everyone else but it is their
views on marriage that are in question. They believe that all sexual activity outside of marriage as a
sin and an immoral act. So, if we restrict marriage from homosexuals then if they are in a sexual
relationship with another they are in turn an immoral person. Therefore, the Catholic Church should
view gay marriage the same as heterosexual marriage, with reverence and sanctity. Marriage, also
known as the matrimonial covenant, is to establish a partnership between a man and a woman for the
entirety of their lives and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation

Standardized Configurations across the Network
DeVry University
NETW206: Introduction to Switching
Submitted to:
Professor:
Date: 0/0/00
In the last week, we just got an idea about the network configuration which we are going to implement
in the organization. As per the requirement, we have to implement 150 cameras in the network. So we
have to have huge bandwidth in our network to transfer the data from 150 cameras. By implementing
the technology called Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), we can save the bandwidth of our LAN.
VLAN means a group of devices on one or more logically segmented LANs (configured by use of
management software), enabling devices to communicate as if attached to the same physical medium,
when they are actually located on numerous different LAN segments. VLANs are based on logical
instead of physical connections and thus are tremendously flexible.
There are two types of VLANs.
1. End to End VLANs
2. Local VLANs
End to End VLANs
The term end to end VLAN refers to a single VLAN that is associated with switch ports that are
widely dispersed throughout an enterprise network on multiple switches. A Layer 2 switched campus
network carries traffic for this VLAN

Caroline comes from a family consisting of her mother, father, and younger brother who reside in
Smithfield, Rhode Island. Many of her family members have attended Mount Saint Charles, but that
wasn t the only reason for her decision to come to Mount.
Before attending Mount Saint Charles in seventh grade, Caroline attended Gallagher Middle School in
Smithfield, Rhode Island. Regarding academics, Caroline has been on the Excelsior honor role since
7th grade, maintaining a grade point average of 4.0 or higher. She has won awards: The Tracy

The Priest And The Great King By Lisbeth S. Fried
The Priest and the Great King by Lisbeth S. Fried faces the question as to how the Persians dealt with
the Jews after the absorption of Judea from the conquest of Babylon. The texts from Hebrew sources
suggested the Persian had a sense of reverence for the Jews which was unlike the others. Attempting
to use sources other than the Tanach is difficult as there is not much in the way of Persian sources
concerning the Jews and Judea but there is some.
The province of Judea was called Yehud under Persian rule, and may have been called such under
Babylonian rule. The primary source of Persian kindness to the Jews was found in the proclamation
made by Cyrus. While there is a Persian record of the decree, the actual language is different than how
it is shown in the Tanach. The Cyrus cylinder does not suggest Yehud was singled out as being freed
from slavery nor were they singled out as being permitted to rebuild temples which were destroyed
under Babylonian rule .
All of this opens the door for Frieds s main question, how did Yehud s government change from the
time of conquest under Babylon to the arrival of Alexander the Great. Was it due to some autonomy
given by the king or was it in spite of rules placed by the king, was this change unique; was there a
change at all? The physical damage was minimal, but the psychological damage caused by the
destruction of the temple and the exile of the priests, royal family, and other like individuals was
significant. After Babylon was

Society s Current Structure Of Masculinity
Society s current structure of masculinity is unforgiving in form. It cuts out other forms of masculinity,
it physically and mentally demanding, and its ill effects extend far beyond the men it infuses itself in.
Yet what would we do if we were given other options for masculinity, ones that allowed for unique
blends of attitudes and perceptions? Looking in to the lives of homeless men we can see the forced
strategies which create new masculine codes created for the adaption against patriarchal pressures.
They are made out of survival need to circumnavigate the painful mental and physical reality that is
only made worse by harsh masculine standards. Yet these new masculinities hold out a form of
hopefulness for society. They offer up new discussion to what it means to be a man, the potential for
change, and what we can expect from changes in male identity over time. Using what we learn from
the disadvantaged, we can hope to improve the lives of people, although the process will take time,
effort, and careful mediation. Timothy Nonn s Hitting Bottom: Homelessness, Poverty, and
Masculinity touches on the complicated issues homeless men face, especially in terms of adapting to
pressures of hegemonic masculinity. The mental and physical stress of homelessness for men stems
from a denial of identity due to the rigid construction of maleness. Homeless men lose their
connection to the same power other men come to expect, they lose their place in society, and because

An Example Of The Salt March
An example of a non violent movement is the Salt March led by Mahatma Gandhi. This march
happened in March 1930 in protest of the British rule. Thousands followed Gandhi for 240 miles to
the sea. Mahatma Gandhi thought that by breaking the British Salt Act, that Indians cannot collect or
sell salt, he could break the law without any violence. Because of the heavy taxes that the British
positioned on salt there was a mass civil disobedience and support for the salt march all around India.
Millions of civilians became involved and the British responded by arresting more than 60,000 of
them. Gandhi declared the Salt March as the theme for his new campaign, Satyagraha or Civil
Disobedience. Gandhi was released in 1931 and agreed to call of his campaign in exchange for a

This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first
impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen
behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the air.
The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city
are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the
rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering
unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are
taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is
previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera
focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being
injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found
effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried
and disappointed tone of voice. Luhrmann indicates the ongoing vendetta by showing the close up
pictures of the families on Newspaper with flames flickering in front of the headlines,

Characteristics Of The Millennial Generation
Review of Literature
Every generation has unique characteristics, attitudes, values, and beliefs which influence how they
view the world. Significant life events that occur at critical stages of development can also influence
and shape each generation. Homelanders, Digital Natives, iGeneration, Plurals, and Generation Z are
all names associated with the newest generation. Although there is some debate about when the
millennial generation ended and this new generation began, most researchers agree with a mid to late
1990 s start. For the purposes of this study, this generation will be referred to as Generation Z (Gen Z),
born between 1995 and 2012 (Stillman Stillman, 2017). Significant events that have shaped and
influenced this generation are terrorism, economic recession, racial unrest, global competition, and
social and ideological pluralism (Elmore, 2015) (White, 2017).
According to White (2017), Gen Z is growing up in what is considered the first truly post Christian
generation. In light of this new reality, the church must rethink its strategy in order to engage and
transform this generation. Adolescence is a time of discovering identity and questioning of one s
beliefs and values. Unfortunately, outdated social and religious traditions have left Gen Z with a
feeling of meaningless and have failed to provide purpose or a sense of belonging (Verma Maria,
2006). This study will measure the spiritual practices and generational characteristics of Gen Z and
then explore

Gary Ridgeway The Green River Killer
Gary Ridgeway, A.K.A, the Green River Killer, was one of the most notorious serial killers in U.S
history. Over the course of two years in the 1980s nearly 50 lives were taken in the Seattle and
Tacoma areas of Washington. This case was given this name because of the location of all of the
bodies. Most of the bodies were dumped either in or around the Green River located in Washington.
Upon discovery of these bodies, the king county sheriff department formed a task force to attempt to
solve these murders. One of the interesting things the task force did was interview Ted Bundy to gain
insight as to what the killer may be planning next. In 1982 and again in 2001, Gary Ridgeway, was
arrested on charges that related to prostitution. This brought

Finding Deep Meaning Of Film
Finding Deep Meaning in Film As was demonstrated in my analysis of Uys (1980) film, the
techniques used for biblical interpretation may be used not merely for biblical interpretation or as a
means to read literature as an example of the modern parable. These techniques may also be used to
the interpretation of film as a medium of communication. Rosenberg, Lucchesi, Boardman, Vinson,
Flynn, and Derrickson s (2005), The exorcism of Emily Rose, provides a wonderful platform for
examining these techniques as it is fraught with meaning, should the viewer take time to peel back the
layers of the onion. Rosenberg et al. (2005) tells the story of the death of Emily Rose and the Catholic
priest who is charged with the negligent homicide. On ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many theological themes that flow from the basic narrative if one takes time to consider
them. Beyond the question of the cause of Emily s death, one finds themes that relate to faith and
rational thought, the existence of God and demons, the relationship between faith and science,
suffering and faith, compassion and pain, and submission to a higher authority. While I will not take
the time to delve into each one of these themes independently, I will select a few that are the most
critical to this author. The first theme that becomes apparent is an overt attack on religion. Early on in
the film, we find a group of lawyers talking about who will prosecute the case. It is stated that, We
need a Christian on this, preferably a Catholic. Someone who knows this stuff inside and out, and who
the public will see as unbiased. We re going after a holy man here (Rosenberg et al, 2005). It was not
merely about identifying a prosecutor who was capable, but one who took attack the faith and
discredit the exorcism rite. The courtroom attacks on Father Moore continue in this vain claiming that
his views were based upon, archaic and irrational superstition (Rosenberg et al, 2005). The Christian
faith is depicted as the product of fiction; because it cannot be rationalized. A second theme that flows
from the film is the question of the existence of God and demons. Peter Chattaway (n.d.),

Refractive Eye Surgery Essay
Introduction
Light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and travels in waves. The electromagnetic
spectrum consists of many other forms of radiation including: radio waves, microwaves, infrared
waves, ultraviolet rays, x rays, and gamma rays (Sandner, 2009). Humans are only capable of
seeing the visible spectrum of light and some even have difficulties with that. However, with
technology taking a turn, many new inventions have come into existence that can help many
parts of the body, including the eyes. Optical devices/processes help us see farther and more
clearly than we can with unaided eyes (Sandner, 2009). One of these optical devices/processes is
laser vision correction. For most people with vision problems, this brand of surgery looks very
appealing to them, which can decrease or even eliminate dependency on glasses and contact
lenses (Sandner, 2009). However, there are also risks that come along with them, and those risks
can be very dangerous.
Background Research
Types of Refractive Eye Surgery
Laser vision correction consists of different types including, but not limited to: LASIK,
LASEK, PRK, and ALK. Each type of surgery is executed for different purposes such as near
sightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. According to MedicineNet.com (nd), all types of
refractive eye surgery involve the reshaping of the cornea or clearing the front part of the eye so
that light can travel through onto the retina properly focused.

Premarital Sex Reflection Paper
Before this class I thought about the topics we covered in a broad sense and probably not very often.
After taking this class I was forced to look deeper into each topic, and while I disagree with some
things, I am glad I will be able to hold a conversation about why I disagree. I am born and raised
Catholic so I know what view I am supposed to have on each topic, but I d catch myself feeling guilty
because my views were more often than not slightly different than the Church s teachings. I needed to
remind myself that it is okay I have a different opinion, as long as I accept the Church s opinion as
well. Of the topics we talked about, I found cohabitation as the most important/interesting and I found
contraception as the most controversial. In this paper I will focus on contraception in premarital sex
which can also be happening in cohabiting relationships, so it in a way all connects. I have been dating
my boyfriend Jarod for almost six and a half years now and he recently asked me where I was going to
live after I was done with college. He was not so subtly trying to ask me what my opinion would be on
us living together. My first thought was no I want to wait until I get married and I know that is what
my parents want as well, but as I thought about it, it really began to make sense why he would ask. It
is not cheap to live on your own, and while I would just continue living at my parents, his parents are
ready for him to move out. I told him maybe if we were engaged

  • 2. Lacks And Henrietta Lacks Imagine having no rights in life. Imagine one day you get sick, and you go to the hospital to get better, but you get taken advantage of. How would all that make you feel? Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman. During her time, women didn t have equal rights like men did, and African Americans didn t have equal rights like white people did. Since Henrietta was an African American woman she had it rough, there were times that everyday tasks were a struggle. In 1951 she was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer. She was treated at John Hopkins University, where doctors didn t do all they could even if they said that was the case, and were Doctor George Gey took her cells from her cervix without consent. I watched the Law and Order episode titled Immortal , I found it to be extremely similar to a book I read titled The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot even though the show said in the beginning that this was not based on a true story. There were many similarities that I spotted between Immortal and Henrietta Lacks. Some of the similarities were within the storyline, others were in characters. Henrietta had six siblings and five kids. There are three of her kids that I want to talk about specifically, Deborah, Zakariyya, and Elsie. Deborah s learning of everything is the main point in the book but also having the readers learn what happened to Henrietta and her family is extremely important. • 3. W. E. B. Dubois Dark Princess People, no matter their race or color, have always wanted to be successful, live comfortably, and provide for their families. While the definitions for success and comfort have changed over time, a constant truth is that hard work and sacrifice are required to reach these goals. Moving from an individual to the societal or political level, for many races and nations, progress can measure success. Ethnic groups want progress towards equality, while nations, particularly those in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, want progress towards economic and industrial progress towards leveling with the West; they also wish for political respect and autonomy. Since the end of the colonial era, there has been a massive struggle by previously colonized nations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examining W.E.B. Dubois novel Dark Princess, the characters of Sammy Scott and Sara Andrews exemplify individualism completely. The honorable Sammy Scott was a leading black politician in Chicago. Dubois described Sammy s beginnings: ...in 1910 by selling the right to gamble, keep houses of prostitution, and commit petty theft, to certain men, white and black, who paid him in cash (Dubois, pg. 82). Sammy is completely corrupt, wanting power and money for himself. He misses his opportunity as a politician to help his district, make positive changes that could improve the lives of the black people all around him. Instead he chooses to be a gangster, promoting gambling and prostitution, and maintaining a criminal undertone in Chicago. Sara Andrews was equally calculating. Dubois describes Sara on page 84 as having a good intellect without moral scruples and a clear idea of the communal and social value of virginity, respectability, and good clothes . Dubois is saying she is cunning, and in tune with what is expected in society. She knows what she needs to do to be successful, and like Sammy, she wants all of the power for herself. Sammy and Sara both lived a dog eat dog existence, and were willing to sacrifice others on their way to the top. It is important to note that Dubois recognized individualism as a major obstacle for racial progress, and Sammy and Sara demonstrated the issues stemming from individualism in Dark Princess. Unfortunately, others failed to capitalize on Dubois foresight. Today there is an equal lack of cohesiveness amongst African Americans, due to varying socioeconomic levels. At the time of civil rights, a black middle class was able to forge ahead and have success. This professional level is still here today, but what also exists today is the bottom of ... Abbas Abdulrazak MEL4601 Dr Wadsworth November 2, 2009 Obesity is a serious and growing problem among adolescents in the United States. In 1999, 13% of children aged 6 to 11 years and 14% of adolescents aged 12 to 19 years in the United States were overweight. This prevalence has nearly tripled for adolescents in the past 2 decades ( Fact Sheet ). Furthermore, vending machines are available to adolescents throughout the day. The availability of vending machines gives students a good alternative to the cafeteria. The cafeteria is usually crowded and hence vending machines allow students to skip the lines and grab a quick bite. Also some students may not be able to get to the cafeteria before it closes for various reasons; vending machines provide them with the convenience. They also allow for students to grab a drink after vigorous exercise. However, a problem with all this is that it may disrupt regularly scheduled meals. This in turn greatly disturbs the natural biorhythms of the body. Because the body performs certain functions on a time schedule, irregular eating habits disrupt the natural clock work of bodily processes ( Is Eating Between Meals Healthy? ). As mentioned above, vending machines are loaded with junk food. Junk food is known to increase blood sugar levels which can lead to behavior problems and impaired learning ability in children. This is sometimes called the spike and crash syndrome. It is defined as the rapid ups and downs of children s blood sugar levels when they eat too much sugar and overly processed carbs, especially on an empty stomach (Lapine). • 7. Analysis Of Augustine s The Confessions Monnica With thirteen books making up the Confessions, it is hard to say what had played the most important role in Augustine s life. Obviously, a crucial point in the story was Augustine s conversion or return to Christianity. Readers see this as something Augustine was struggled with, from stealing fruit to joining the Manicheans. Through all of his struggles about his faith, his mother Monnica was devoted to his conversion. In this brief paper, I will discuss who Monnica was, how she played a role in her son s conversion, and how she continues to influences others through the Confessions. Born in 331 CE, Monnica came from a Catholic family from Thagaste. When Monnica reached marriageable age she was married to Patricius, a Roman Pagan. While Patricius had many faults, such as being hot tempered and being unfaithful to his wife, Monnica always turned to God to show he husband mercy (C. 9.9.19). From what we know, Monnica was mother to many children. We can account for at least 3, Augustine, a brother, and a sister. While the children grew up in a mixed religious household, Monnica was persistent on her children receiving a Christian education. At one point during Confessions, Augustine writes my tender little heart had drunk in that name, the name of my Savior and your Son, with my mother s milk, and in my deepest heart I still held on to it (C. 3.4.8). If you guessed Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA), Unions, arbitration and strikes/work stoppages you are absolutely correct. In the coming paragraphs, labor relations within the world of sports will be discussed from their unions to how collective bargaining agreements effect both the players and the owners. What is a Collective Bargaining Agreement? CBA is a written and signed document between a company and a labor organization specifying the terms and conditions of employment for a specified period of time. The written agreement is then a contract between the employer and the employees. Collective bargaining is a continuous process, beginning with the negotiation of a contract through the entirety of the contract with almost daily interpretation and administration of its provisions. Collective bargaining and unions have had a considerable effect on fans through professional sports. • 23. Analysis Of Robert Frost s Birches The most misinterpreted element in Robert Frost poetry is his use of nature in a symbolic way. Frost is not describing the inner workings of nature as we see it all around us, but about exploring human psychology. For example, Frost uses Homely farmers, rural scenes, landscapes, and the natural world to epitomize a psychological struggle with an everyday experience that is often met with courage, will, and purpose; contextually, using Frost s own life and personal psychology. Frost s attitude in his poetry is honest, accepting, and stoical, nature is just used as a background. Frost usually begins his poems by delineate an observation of something in nature, then moves on toward a connection with some human concern or situation. He uses the natural world as symbolism in his poetry then suggests bigger, deeper, more complex ideas. In Robert Frost s poetry he is not purely writing about nature, rather he is using nature as a tool to compose ideas relating to human nature. In Robert Frost s poem Birches he uses nature as imagery to convey his disdain for the pressures of social life. In his essay, Compton analyzes the lyrics of the song, Smells Like Teen Spirit performed by Nirvana and written by Kurt Cobain. Smells Like Teen Spirit , released in 1991, received many music awards. Although some could not interpret the song s meaning, it was exactly what many youths needed to hear . By drawing attention to specific verses and changes in rhythm, Compton applies that the song articulated the emotions of America s youth. From the introduction where he quotes Tom Moon to the conclusion where he quotes Michael Azerrad, Compton cites multiple credible authorities to strengthen his points. He also includes his own experiences about how he, himself, was one of the young adults who connected with the lyrics of the song. As for pathos, Compton generally tries to connect with his audience by stating how the word contagious is used in the lyrics. Because no one wants to be around that person, they will look at the person with disgust, as if they have some highly contagious disease. Although sufficient in ethos and pathos, logos were not used in Compton s essay. Since this is an analysis of a song, it does not affect the effect of the essay. I do not think that Compton has adequately accomplished his purpose. Female Genitalia Mutilation ( Fgm ) Female Circumcision: Female Genitalia Mutilation As a nursing student in my first experience working in a labor ward, I witnessed a lady birthing a baby with part of the birth canal scarred and narrow due to her circumcision at puberty. To say that the birthing process was hard to watch is an understatement. As the labor progressed with no sight of the baby coming out naturally, she was offered a C section, which she vehemently turned down. She said, I don t want to be the joke of my peers. I have to do it like others did it. Watching this, made me more curious and passionate to find the origin of this practice and hopefully, educate the practitioners leading to its eradication. • 29. The Catholic Church Should Accept That Gay Marriage The Catholic Church should accept that gay marriage is morally acceptable and doesn t contradict their beliefs. Gay marriage has been a topic of controversy ever since the 1970 s. May of 1970 to be exact. Around This time two men named Richard John Jack Baker and James Michael McConnell in Minnesota applied to Hennepin County District Court clerk Gerald Nelson for a marriage license. They were denied because they both were men. This issue of two people of the same sex getting married is still a topic of debate to a lot of people even after the U.S. Supreme court made gay marriage legal in all 50 states in 20151. The Catholic Church teaches to treat homosexuals with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. That every act of hate, violence, and persecution toward them is condemned. The Church doesn t view homosexuals no poorly than they do everyone else but it is their views on marriage that are in question. They believe that all sexual activity outside of marriage as a sin and an immoral act. So, if we restrict marriage from homosexuals then if they are in a sexual relationship with another they are in turn an immoral person. Therefore, the Catholic Church should view gay marriage the same as heterosexual marriage, with reverence and sanctity. As per the requirement, we have to implement 150 cameras in the network. So we have to have huge bandwidth in our network to transfer the data from 150 cameras. By implementing the technology called Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), we can save the bandwidth of our LAN. VLAN means a group of devices on one or more logically segmented LANs (configured by use of management software), enabling devices to communicate as if attached to the same physical medium, when they are actually located on numerous different LAN segments. • 34. The Priest And The Great King By Lisbeth S. Fried The Priest and the Great King by Lisbeth S. Fried faces the question as to how the Persians dealt with the Jews after the absorption of Judea from the conquest of Babylon. The texts from Hebrew sources suggested the Persian had a sense of reverence for the Jews which was unlike the others. Attempting to use sources other than the Tanach is difficult as there is not much in the way of Persian sources concerning the Jews and Judea but there is some. The province of Judea was called Yehud under Persian rule, and may have been called such under Babylonian rule. The primary source of Persian kindness to the Jews was found in the proclamation made by Cyrus. While there is a Persian record of the decree, the actual language is different than how it is shown in the Tanach. The Cyrus cylinder does not suggest Yehud was singled out as being freed from slavery nor were they singled out as being permitted to rebuild temples which were destroyed under Babylonian rule . All of this opens the door for Frieds s main question, how did Yehud s government change from the time of conquest under Babylon to the arrival of Alexander the Great. Was it due to some autonomy given by the king or was it in spite of rules placed by the king, was this change unique; was there a change at all? The physical damage was minimal, but the psychological damage caused by the destruction of the temple and the exile of the priests, royal family, and other like individuals was significant. It cuts out other forms of masculinity, it physically and mentally demanding, and its ill effects extend far beyond the men it infuses itself in. Yet what would we do if we were given other options for masculinity, ones that allowed for unique blends of attitudes and perceptions? Looking in to the lives of homeless men we can see the forced strategies which create new masculine codes created for the adaption against patriarchal pressures. They are made out of survival need to circumnavigate the painful mental and physical reality that is only made worse by harsh masculine standards. Yet these new masculinities hold out a form of hopefulness for society. They offer up new discussion to what it means to be a man, the potential for change, and what we can expect from changes in male identity over time. Using what we learn from the disadvantaged, we can hope to improve the lives of people, although the process will take time, effort, and careful mediation. Timothy Nonn s Hitting Bottom: Homelessness, Poverty, and Masculinity touches on the complicated issues homeless men face, especially in terms of adapting to pressures of hegemonic masculinity. For the purposes of this study, this generation will be referred to as Generation Z (Gen Z), born between 1995 and 2012 (Stillman Stillman, 2017). Significant events that have shaped and influenced this generation are terrorism, economic recession, racial unrest, global competition, and social and ideological pluralism (Elmore, 2015) (White, 2017). We re going after a holy man here (Rosenberg et al, 2005). It was not merely about identifying a prosecutor who was capable, but one who took attack the faith and discredit the exorcism rite. The courtroom attacks on Father Moore continue in this vain claiming that his views were based upon, archaic and irrational superstition (Rosenberg et al, 2005). The Christian faith is depicted as the product of fiction; because it cannot be rationalized. A second theme that flows from the film is the question of the existence of God and demons. • 47. Refractive Eye Surgery Essay Introduction Light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and travels in waves. The electromagnetic spectrum consists of many other forms of radiation including: radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, ultraviolet rays, x rays, and gamma rays (Sandner, 2009). Humans are only capable of seeing the visible spectrum of light and some even have difficulties with that. However, with technology taking a turn, many new inventions have come into existence that can help many parts of the body, including the eyes. Optical devices/processes help us see farther and more clearly than we can with unaided eyes (Sandner, 2009). One of these optical devices/processes is laser vision correction. For most people with vision problems, this brand of surgery looks very appealing to them, which can decrease or even eliminate dependency on glasses and contact lenses (Sandner, 2009). However, there are also risks that come along with them, and those risks can be very dangerous. Background Research Types of Refractive Eye Surgery Laser vision correction consists of different types including, but not limited to: LASIK, LASEK, PRK, and ALK. Each type of surgery is executed for different purposes such as near sightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. According to MedicineNet.com (nd), all types of refractive eye surgery involve the reshaping of the cornea or clearing the front part of the eye so that light can travel through onto the retina properly focused.

  • 49. Premarital Sex Reflection Paper Before this class I thought about the topics we covered in a broad sense and probably not very often. After taking this class I was forced to look deeper into each topic, and while I disagree with some things, I am glad I will be able to hold a conversation about why I disagree. I am born and raised Catholic so I know what view I am supposed to have on each topic, but I d catch myself feeling guilty because my views were more often than not slightly different than the Church s teachings. I needed to remind myself that it is okay I have a different opinion, as long as I accept the Church s opinion as well. Of the topics we talked about, I found cohabitation as the most important/interesting and I found contraception as the most controversial. In this paper I will focus on contraception in premarital sex which can also be happening in cohabiting relationships, so it in a way all connects. I have been dating my boyfriend Jarod for almost six and a half years now and he recently asked me where I was going to live after I was done with college. He was not so subtly trying to ask me what my opinion would be on us living together. My first thought was no I want to wait until I get married and I know that is what my parents want as well, but as I thought about it, it really began to make sense why he would ask. It is not cheap to live on your own, and while I would just continue living at my parents, his parents are ready for him to move out. I told him maybe if we were engaged ...
