Voter Turnout Sociology
The dependent variable in this study is voter turnout rates, expressed as a percentage of the eligible
population. Data was collected from two time periods; 1960 1970 and 1971 1980. The eligible voting
population was calculated for each country from data reported by the International Labour Office in
1977 and data reported by the United Nations in 1984. In his article Political Institutions and Voter
Turnout in the Industrial Democracies, Robert Jackman describes the correlation that exists between
political institutions and voter turnout. He conducted a study in which he examined political
institutions in 19 democracies and voter turnout rates in those nations. It was his belief that political
institutions directly correlate to voter turnout. Evidence from his study suggests that the structure of a
nation s political institution has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large gender gap exists in the sub Saharan Africa region when it comes to voting, there is a
statistically seven point gap that exists between men and women. In East Asian and Latin American
nations, the gender gap is less than a percentage point, it is not as statistically significant as the sub
Saharan region. Results indicate that age seems to have a greater impact on voting participation than
any other variable, the effect of age on voter turnout is consistent across all world regions. Turnout is
lowest among young people and it rises as one grows older. Just 59% of young adults vote in East
Asia vote, 63% of young adults vote in Latin America and 58% of young adults vote in Sub Saharan
African nations. Whereas, 89% of the older population in sub Saharan Africa vote and 88% of the
older population in Latin America vote. In short young people tend to shy away from voting. Bratton,

Death 24x A Second Stillness And The Moving Image Analysis
1. The Possessive Binge viewer In her book Death 24x a Second: Stillness and the Moving Image,
Laura Mulvey (2006) illustrates the sense of balance between stillness and movement, life and death
that follows film, placing the film star within a context of uncanny fusion between the human body
and the machine (p. 171). By examining new media viewing practices and their effects on the
spectators relationship to the cinematic body, Mulvey argues that the ability to control the flow of the
film by stopping, replaying it, etc., leads to a possessive spectatorship; a domination of the filmic form
and its stars, regardless of the gender, the motivation for which lies in the viewer s act of fetishizing
the cinematic object (p. 166). In a similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The television serial as a filmic object is being worshiped by the binge viewer through the binge
watching experience and therefore, the watching experience is being possessed and fetishized by the
spectator. Today s mode of possessive spectatorship as analyzed by Mulvey can be remediated in the
tradition of early cine eroticism. With this in mind, the very elements of momentum and stillness,
elusiveness and possession are incorporated into the filmic body itself. Furthermore, Johnathan E.
Schroeder (2002) suggests in his book Visual Consumption that the fetish relationship of object
worship, delusional belief in the power of the fetish, and substitution of human relations with fetish
relations are also invoked in the broader dimensions of consumer culture and its aggressive object
worship (p. 157). By being enabled to binge watch not only fragments of the filmic body, but to
consume it as a whole, the possessive binge viewer fetishizes the object, here the object being the
binge watching experience, because it creates different spectator television show relationship. This
different relationship is realized in what the possessive binge viewer sees as no longer traditional, but
rather exotic and erotic. And because he or she is in possession of the whole filmic body, rather than

Theme Of Enduring Appeal For King Lear
Shakespearian plays like King Lear have enduring appeal because of their universal and timeless
themes.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Support your answer with reference to
the text.
The universal nature of the themes explored in the works of William Shakespeare endow them with
lasting appeal. They feature ideas which are as relevant today as they were in Shakespeare s time, and
this is one of the many reasons why modern audiences are still drawn to plays like King Lear , where
ideas of corruption, power, social inequality and society s attitude toward the elderly take centre stage.
A timeless theme featured in the play is that of corruption within the justice system. Police brutality,
racial profiling and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the pursuit of power, Regan, Goneril and Edmund are corrupted and turn to violence and
manipulation to sate their greed and lust. Once they have achieved their goals, they lose what little
empathy they had left, allowing them to justify their treatment of both Lear and Gloucester. Regan and
Goneril employ glib and oily arts to gain their dowries, yet the unflinching devotion they express for
their father in the love test is nowhere to be seen when they humiliate and bully him until he is driven
mad. Edmund similarly manipulates his credulous father and noble brother in order to gain his brother
s inheritance for himself. The unflinching and violent desire for power shown by these characters is a
timeless theme, not just in literature but throughout history, giving the play its continuing appeal.
The gap between the rich and poor continues to widen. In the play, this inequality is revealed by Edgar
who describes the low farms and poor pelting villages that make up the country. This image of the
land is a stark contrast to how Lear saw his kingdom in the opening scene, which he describes as
plentiful, rich and fair . It is only when Lear is driven out into the storm that he too can acknowledge
the reality of life for the poor whose houseless heads are exposed to the elements. The theme

The Quarrel Between Poetry And Philosophy In Republic
The Quarrel Between Poetry and Philosophy in Republic
Abstract: Plato sternly expels poets and their poems when creating his ideal land in Republic. And
Starting from Plato, the quarrel between poetry and philosophy has been through almost the entire
history of western thoughts. By combing the viewpoints of Socrates, the protagonist of Plato s
Republic, this paper will analyze why classical philosophers side against traditional poets and discover
Plato s real purpose of such a deportation. The discussion of philosophy s homology with poetry will
also be included.

between poetry and philosophy never ends. Plato blamed poetry, while his disciple ... Show more

Foretold Narrative Style
Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a novel, that is written in a non linear
writing style. Non linear writing style is the exact opposite of chronological order. The way the story
is written affects our perception of the protagonists , Santiago s death. This novel is filled with
superstitions, religion and fate, all of these three key components seemed to lead to Santiago s death as
the novel and the story of his death developed. In order to fully understand what happened to Santiago
the day that he died, Garcia Marquez used diction, symbolism, and tone. Garcia Marquez was trying
to express the idea that superstition, fate, and religion are huge aspects of a person s life and you can t
escape the path that has already been mapped out for you. He conveys these thoughts throughout the
novel using Santiago Nasar s death as something that seemed almost inescapable as you read the
novel. Garcia Marquez used the idea of the supernatural in his novel. He did this by using symbolism.
When Garcia Marquez was young he had to go live with his grandparents because it was common at
the time in Colombian culture to leave your children wherever one could manage because of financial
situations. Garcia Marquez was told stories of his grandparents adventures of when they were young.
This is where Garcia Marquez had developed his style of writing as magical realism. A lot of the
superstitions in the book he got from living with his grandparents. His grandparents,

Canadian Identity Essay
So many different important facts have contributed to our Canadian identity. But, in my Paragraph I m
going to show some of the most important things that happened like the SS.St Louis, the Underground
railray, Harriet Tubman, and Chinese immigrants.First,I think that the SS. St Louis contributes to our
Canadian identity because it taught Canada to be welcoming and including. Before when Canada didn
t let people from the SS.ST louis come into Canada, they realized that they were wrong, so know in
our day we are more welcome and let immigrants move to Canada. If I was an immigrant and I needed
somewhere to live I would be so thankful that Canada is welcoming know and it s because of that.

Harriet showed Canada and the whole world that girls can do everything that boys can do and showed
Canada to give people a chance. Canada was the first country to stop slavery, I think it s mostly
because of Harriet. I think It s mostly because of her because it showed how hard they worked to be
free and maybe before they thought of them as items, but when they saw them suffer and how Harriet
worked and put others in front of her and she showed that Canada that slaves are not items they are
human beings. Also,I think that the underground railway contributed to Canada s identity because it
showed that slaves aren t an object and can find a way to escape how bad their lives were. The
underground railway also showed Canada to stop abusing people just because they don t look the
same and that you should try and help them to stop slavery around the world. It also showed that
slaves were people too and wanted to live free and not to be whipped and they should live in their own
houses and have their own properties and Canada was the first country to stop

Nature In The Good Earth
Nature is visible in the earth, rain, and harvests of Wang Lung s hometown in China, which is
represented in the title, The Good Earth. Pearl S. Buck s novel discusses the life of an agrarian
Chinese man, Wang Lung, and his deep connection to the Earth. As the plot unfolds, Wang Lung
slowly gained much wealth that originated from the land. The earth, or the soil, brought riches and a
higher class to Wang. This is what he had valued the most since the beginning of the novel. He wanted
to have a successful harvest and gain money from his crops, and therefore become a member of a
wealthy family similar to the House of Hwang he had been admiring in his town. The rain determined
how his crops grew in the soil. Wang Lung was dependent on the land ... Show more content on

In the first chapters of the novel, Wang Lung states that the soil provides all things necessary for him
to live. Pearl S. Buck demonstrated Wang Lung s need for the land too, by stating this earth which
formed their home and fed their bodies and made their god (Buck, 22). Shortly after, he got married to
O lan, a servant from the House of Hwang. After noticing the House of Hwang was selling their land,
as previously stated, he chose to intervene. Wang Lung bought a little piece of land from the Hwang
family with some silver he had stored by selling his harvest. His major dependence on the land came
when Wang Lung s family faces a terrible famine. The drought impeded water to get to the crops. All
his crops had withered, except the ones in the new piece of land he had bought from the House of
Hwang (Baw, 3). He felt determined to buy more land from the Hwang family, even if it meant the
children must all starve if the plants starve (Buck, 48). Wang Lung trusted that the land would save
him from the starvation the drought had brought him. What originally brought the drought was the
lack of water. The rain during this time of crisis was a symbol of the suffering his family had to go

A Report On The Cleveland Street Workhouse
Introduction Pathway, the homeless healthcare charity, is seeking for a property to carry out their
homeless people medical respite strategy. The Cleveland Street Workhouse, located the eastern side of
Cleveland Street, has become their potential target. However, they do not know whether this place
could satisfy their objectives. Therefore, this report is aim to provide a guidance and some suggestions
for the clients, to enable them carry out their strategy more easily. Land and property appraisal In this
case, the information about this property is not enough to support us making any decisions. For
example, THE CLEVELAND STREET WORKHOUSE Document 1(assignment sheet) has
mentioned It is generally of poor quality internally and will need significant refurbishment, bearing in
mind the listing of the front block . Information like this is too weak to support our strategy and we
need some more detailed information. Therefore, I think it is essential to make a Land and property
appraisal. This contains a well rounded check of the targeted land and property. Not only it lets us
know how much cost is needed to maintain the property at an acceptable standard, but also it helps us
to find out the opportunities for adaptation and rationalisation. In short, the Land and property
appraisal let us know what to do, in which place, at what time. Is it the fundamental activity to set up a
baseline assessment of the targeted land and property. Land and property appraisals could be

Drugs And Prescription Drug Abuse
To illustrate the magnitude of the research problem and provide a frame of reference, this section
begins with a brief overview of the increased use of pharmaceuticals and prescription drug abuse in
the US. The section continues with the relationship between illicit drugs and prescriptions, adolescents
abuse, personal and social factors; then concludes with the theoretical approach. The Social Ecological
Theory, will be applied in researching prescription drug abuse, possible influences and protective
factors in adolescents in relation to prescription drug abuse, to develop focused intervention strategies
and educational programs for this population, similar to other substances such as tobacco, alcohol, and
marijuana.
Pharmaceuticals
The utilization of prescription drugs has increased across all age groups in the US, with 50% of
Americans taking at least one prescription drug (Rice Unruh, 2016). This can be attributed to
physician induced demand, substitution of pharmaceuticals for other medical regimens,
commercialization of the products, increase in the aging population and drug insurance coverage, and
also the increase in chronic conditions. Lathan discusses the startling fact that the rate increase of
prescription drugs purchased was considerably higher in contrast to the US population growth 71%
and 9% respectively (Rice Unruh, 2016, p. 264).
The total spending on pharmaceuticals reported by CMS in 2014 was an astounding $263 billion (as

violating any laws, regulations, regulatory orders, or agreements with a regulatory agency, the penalty
is up to five thousand per day of violation. Tier 2 would include the violations that cause more than a
minimal loss to the victim or a financial gain to the violator. This tier has penalties up to $25,000 per
day of violation. The final tier, Tier 3, which includes violations that are knowingly committed that
also cause a considerable loss to the victim or a considerable gain to the violator. The penalties for this
tier can go up to $1,000,000 per day and can increase to $1,425,000 per day. ( Section 14.1

A Comparison Of Christianity And Christianity
We as homo sapiens refer to religion or beliefs as a way to cope with issues and a pathway to God.
Which is why their are numerous unique yet similar religions out there, such as; Judaism, Islam,
Hinduism, Buddhism and last but certainly not least Christianity. Each religion has quite the number
of followers, but Christianity has the most followers or believers. Christianity is practiced world wide
by 2.1 billion people, and are found most in the United States of America. They can also be found in
Indonesia, Central Asia or even in the Middle East.
The word Christian is actually Greek, which means followers of Christ. Christianity began with the
story of the Jesus of Nazareth. A prophet who is believed to be the son of God and his faithful
disciples 2000 years ago in Israel. It was during the Roman rule and Jesus Christ was a teacher. He
walked amongst the people and taught them about God and his new covenant, healed the sick and
tried to explain to them that sin would be the end of mankind. He caught the attention of plebeian
members, but rose suspicions amongst upper class people and the religion leaders. They saw him as
treacherous because he was making changes to already placed Roman laws. They warned the governor
of him but despite the warnings, the roman governor, Pontius Pilate saw nothing wrong with the man
and wanted to let him roam free and do as he pleased. Pontius was weak, in the end, he gave into peer
pressure and sentence Jesus Christ to death. Gave him

Research Paper On The Trinity
How does the belief in the Trinity (God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) affect Christian Worship,
Christian living, and Christian witness?
The Trinity is a doctrine that has and will continue to bring much controversy to the Christian faith.
Yet it is important to understand that a practical approach to this topic can be very important. Having a
full understanding of the Trinity is vital to the life of a Christian. The distinct, yet interwoven aspects
of God s character will affect every aspect of a believer s life.
It is important to begin by stating that there are many different doctrinal views of the Trinity. However
I believe that the doctrine of Trinity defines one God who is eternally existent as three distinct
Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These definitions express three crucial truths: (1) The Father,
Son, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a response to the realization of who we are as compared to who God is. When we do this however
it is important to understand that God has provided a model for us in our worship. Because he is in
community our worship should be done in a communal sense. We need to depend on one another to
help us comprehend the majesty and love of God and respond in true worship as a community (Eph.
3:14 21). (Beyond Opinion 246) It appears that while we are to worship the Son and the Holy Spirit,
we are to primarily focus our attention upon the Father because they give glory to the Father (John
16:14 15: 17:4 5). A great verse that brings this idea into focus is Ephesians 2:18: Now all of us can
come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.
Understanding this allows us to have a proper focus on how we are to Worship God. An incorrect
interpretation of scripture can lead to an overemphasis upon one of the members of the trinity which
can be dangerous to the spiritual development of a believer and

The Roots Of The Enlightenment
Between the years of 1685 1815 the focus of European thought had drastically shifted as a result of
what is known as the Age of Reason era, or more commonly known as the Enlightenment. The roots
of the enlightenment sprang about during the time of the Renaissance. Enlightenment thinkers such as
David Hume, Voltaire, and Jean Jacques Rousseau questioned the traditional ways of authority, and
looked to improve mankind with logical changes. The American Revolution, was partially due to
members of the enlightened sect, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. The Enlightment roots
started in the early 17th century where contributors sought to shed light on human intellect as well as
culture after what is known as the dark middle ages. The notion

The Pros And Cons Of Human Reasoning
Human reasoning can be broken down into two parts, deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning, in
this essay I will be focusing on the induction side of human reasoning and whether it is rational or not
to use in science. The basic idea of induction is that you learn from past experiences and apply the
information learned from that to your future decision making and knowledge. Swinburne defines an
inductive argument is an argument or inference comes from one or more premises to draw a
conclusion (Swinburne, 1974).An example of this is, as a child you touch a flame and learn that it
burns you ,so from this induce that all flames that you will encounter again will also burn you.
Induction is something we as humans use moment to moment in our everyday life. The problem of
induction is something that has been Widely debated over many years.
The idea that induction is unreasonable or irrational was first put forward by David Hume in the
seventeenth century. He was a sceptic about the idea of induction and noticed a problem with
inductive reasoning. This is that the premise cannot guarantee the conclusion. Hume wrote that
everything that we learn from experience we learnt through similarities found in natural object and we
induce effects similar to those found into our everyday life experiences. (Hume, 1902) when a new
object endowed with similar sensible qualities, is produced, we expect similar powers and forces, and
look for a like effect (Hume, 1902). Hume is not

Frank Stella s Inspiration Versus What You See Is What You See
Frank Stella is an Abstract Expressionist and Minimalist artist who is known for several elements of
his painting style such as his shaped canvases and his famous saying what you see is what you see. In
the mid 1960 s, Stella created a series of paintings, the Protractor Series, which are prominent for their
semi circle shaped canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella s popular motto, what you see is
what you see, Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous masterpiece.
Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer paint. Very commonly,
Stella s paintings were depicted on shaped canvases like his Protractor Series were painted on semi
circle shaped canvases. Stella had some more works, Irregular Polygons, that were composed on
shaped canvases as well, like the ones listed below.

Although Frank Stella is known for his abstract attitude and motto what you see is what you see, it can
be found that Stella did have an inspiration for his Protractor Series other than the mathematical tool.
When looking at these paintings, an element that can easily catch the eye is the variety of different
hues he chose and the intertwining pathways of color. Prior to creating this artwork, Frank Stella

Similar to the majority of living organisms, bacteria are able to adapt and change depending on their
environment. Contrary to other larger living organisms such as humans, bacteria are able to transform
and multiply at a more rapid pace, allowing these microorganisms to evolve and become resistant to
medications that are commonly used to treat them such as antibiotics. These altered bacteria are
oftentimes referred to as super bugs as they are unaffected by typical treatments involving the use of

Hamlet Metaatheatre Essay
Metatheatre is best defined as a play within a play, having the ability to either show the unlikeliness of
life in art, or prove the overall theatricality of life in art. This concept expresses the fine line between
illusions and realities within a play. It presents absurd and improbable actions that allow the audience
to realize the overall frame of the work. Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead makes use
of this literary technique as he takes two minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet and creates a
comedic play fusing together the plot of Hamlet with Stoppard s take on the experiences of
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Thus, he creates a the play of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
within the framework of Shakespeare s Hamlet. Stoppard is limited in what he can and cannot do with
his artistic choices and freedoms as a writer because he must ensure his plot and ideas fit within the
overall plot of Hamlet, clearly illustrating the idea of metatheatricality. Along with Stoppard s
inclusion of Hamlet, he further develops the characters of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, creating
more comedic and interesting characters who are constantly confused with their role in the play.

This case talks about Fair Trade USA which is one of the leading certifier of fair trade products in
North America. Fair Trade USA was founded by Paul Rice in 1998. From a non profit organization,
Fair Trade USA growth has been phenomenal. Initially after first year of its inception, it started
certifying one million pounds of coffee. Today it is certifying more than 1 billion pounds of coffee per
day.
Ft USA got into valuable partnerships with Starbucks, Pepsi co, Whole foods and others and received
55 % brand recognition amongst its consumers in USA. Though the growth looks tremendous, FT
USA currently certifies less than 6 % of all coffee consumed in the U.S. Rice has then thought how the
10 million dollar non profit should proceed over the next decade. So Ft USA oriented itself towards
the pursuit of deep and effective social impact with real market penetration that will better match its
existing widespread consumer brand recognition.
FT USA benefitted over seven million people in developing countries and helped rural families who
were in poverty. FT USA ensured that its label means ensured strict adherence to a rigorous set of
standards that serve to inform the customers that certified products are socially and environmentally
responsible.
As a social enterprise, FT USA early on had sought to reduce dependency on grants and donations by
first building a strong earned revenue stream, which came from its certification services and by

In 2013 Beyonce made the bold move to include an excerpt from a speech by Nigerian novelist
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her song ***Flawless, the speech ends with the definition of a
feminist. Feminist: a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
As the definition states a feminist is someone who strives for equality, not superiority, and is not just
limited to women. Above all feminist are people who continue their fight no matter who or what
stands in their way. Feminism as a concept dates back to the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries

The Macro Environment
The macro environment
Introduction
Marketing s role is to match the capabilities and resources within the organisation with market
opportunities external to the organisation. Understanding customer needs is central to achieving this
aim, but marketers must also be aware of factors that can cause customer needs to evolve. A change in
customer needs will impact upon the organisation s ability to serve its customers. This means that
marketers have to be knowledgeable about what is happening in the external environment, or macro
environment.
Beyond the organisations that immediately influence a company s operations lies the macro
environment. This consists of the larger social and international forces that affect the society within
which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nations have different levels of income:
Subsistence economies consume what they produce, so provide limited market opportunities.
Industrial economies offer rich markets with varied goods.
The operation of the economic environment is affected by government economic policy. In struggling
economies, consumer purchasing power is reduced. Consumers at different income levels spend their
money on different things. Economic variables affect these spending patterns.
Marketing
The economic problems faced by some countries have meant that some international marketers cannot
be paid in hard currency. To make sales, therefore, they have had to barter their products. An example
of this was the barter of Pepsi Cola for Russian vodka by the Pepsi company and the former Soviet
government.
Nature
This is important to marketers insofar as it is the source of many raw materials and fluctuation in
supply can affect the prices paid for purchases. Furthermore, the increasing cost of some raw materials
has meant that recycling of some materials, such as aluminium, has become economic.
There is increasing pressure from public opinion as to where raw materials are sourced from, and their
effect on the natural environment. Paper manufacturers have had to pay attention to sourcing pulp
from renewable forests, where trees are replanted to make up for those which have been felled. There
is also pressure on them not to use chemicals and bleaches in their

Positive And Negative Effects Of American Imperialism
In my point of view, the colonial period shifted the balance previously present throughout the world,
in which imperialism had less relevance in everyday lives. Before the colonial period, the natives
living in the Americas and the Caribbeans, mainly had internal fighting or conflicts between rival
tribes. While in Europe, the most tension occurred between major empires competing for trade, land,
recourses, and wealth. However, once the Europeans began colonizing America, both of the worlds
collided in a massive fight for sovereignty and wealth. This can be seen in each country s colonization
of America. In the French colonization, the colonist traded advanced weaponry to the Huron tribe for
fur and strong alliances. Consequently, the natives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the colonial period, portrayed a time in which a variety of people were severely abused and
many conflicts were provoked, there were also many positive sides towards the American
colonization. This positive side promoted societal growth and increased numerous countries` wealth
dramatically. For example, the English found an outlet to employ many of their low class peasants in
their Chesapeake colonization, and also found a way to produce large amounts of rice, tobacco, and
many more exports. In addition to obtaining expensive goods and recourses, American colonization
gave European empires the opportunity to expand their rule across oceans. However, In some
situations this reaped negative results, such as the British attempt to excessively control their colonies
by unconstitutionally issuing new taxes. One can even go as far to say that American colonization led
to the separation of the British empire. Thus, there were both positive and negative aspects towards
American colonization, but if all the senseless deaths were worth the society we have today, will be a
question debated for many

My AP Calculus Class
When I was growing up I always did well in my math classes in comparison to my other classes.
Students have said He only does well because he s Asian. ; others said He s just naturally smart

Historical Quotes In Educating Rita
Each country has its very own culture and history but Great Britain is one of these countries that have
a worldly admired and one of a kind heritage. Indeed, British literature, theatre, art or even schools are
very influential and respected across the world. A few of them are illustrated in the three documents
we are about to study. The first one is an extract from Two Lives (2005) by Vikram Seth which tells
the story of a boy arriving to his new school. The second document is the scene 6, Act 1, from a play
called « Educating Rita ». In this scene, the main character Rita just went to see a play McBeth and is

How to become a part of the Great British history ?
Great Britain has many world known, myths, authors and universities. For example, we can see in the
extract of Educating Rita, in which Rita just comes from the theatre where she saw MacBeth, to see

Adult Career Counseling in a New Age Essay
Adult Career Counseling in a New Age
The changing workplace a by now familiar litany of economic, demographic, organizational, and

Although career development is a continuous lifelong process, media and some scholars continue to

Compare And Contrast Hinduism And Monotheism
Introduction
Comparison between two different religions allows analysis of different aspects of the religions, as it
relates to the other. In this paper, there will be a stark comparison of both Judaism and Hinduism,
along with their fundamental beliefs and rituals. That will compare beliefs of God/ Gods, Goddesses
etc., prayer/worship and analyze of life and death both culturally and spiritually. Along with both
similarities and differences there will be the defining goal that ties all beliefs together and that is the
oneness with their God.
Judaism Judaism is a monotheistic religion and it beliefs are the complete opposite of ancient
polytheistic religion like that of Hinduism. Monotheism is the belief of one God. The religion started
with the ancient Israelites, who referred to their God as El. Their God was known by many names to
include, El Shaddai, El Elyon, El Olam and Most frequently Elohim and YHWH. Their God was
worshipped by burning animal sacrifices on an alter. Their God was not worshiped in a temple or
building until the time of Solomon (961 922 B.C.E.). It was not until the time of Moses and the great
Exodus of the chosen people of God, that their Law was given unto them on Mt. Sinai to Moses, the
prophet. YHWH communicated their law to the Israelites through Moses. Ten absolutes laws, the Ten

A New Science Of Genetic Engineering Essay
After years of work, Dr. Smith, has successfully edited the human genome. Shortly after, he began to
marvel at the possibilities he unlocked, but also begged the question of the possible consequences he
created from this achievement which would affect the impending future. He worried as to how the
public would react to his life work. The growing potential of gene editing is sweeping the US, filled
with both overwhelming hope as well as fear. This is a bridge which must be crossed to achieve trust
within the biomedical community. To ensure the people this can bring great change without the
unethical byproducts which could come with gene editing. Much of the American public is divided
with the relatively new science of genetic engineering due to concerning ethical issues, but would

Kauai Life In The 1800s
As the oldest island in Hawaii, Kauai has a wealth of history. Over the years, it has gone from ancient
battlefields to a modern economy. First inhabited around 200 to 600 AD, the original settlers most
likely reached Kauai from the Marquesas Islands nearly 2,000 miles away. Since these early
immigrants arrived, an estimated 1,000 of the 1,300 species on Kauai have gone extinct. Centuries
later, the Tahitians arrived and took over the island from the shorter Marquesans.
The Arrival of James Cook

natives was slowly destroyed.
Kauai Experiences an Economic Boom
As Westerners arrived, Kauai quickly became a leading sugar producer. In Koloa Town, a sugar mill
helped to drive this economic boom. Quickly, other entrepreneurs followed suit to create sugar
plantations. They brought in immigrants from across the world to boost the workforce. These new
immigrants gave rise to the unique blend of cultures that exist within Kauai today.
For a brief time period, sugar and pineapple production comprised a large part of the economy. As
these industries fell, tourism became increasingly popular. Ultimately, Kauai lost its constitutional
monarchy in 1893. A group of foreigners conspired to end the Kingdom of Hawaii because the
constitution that was being amended was not in their best interests. Following a revolution, Hawaii
became a United States territory in the 1900s. Later on, it joined the United States as a state in

Irony And The Paradoxes Of War By Wilfred Owen
Irony is an important literary device wherein what appears to be true is radically different from what
actually happens. Wilfred Owen has used this technique in many of his poems to effectively convey
the paradoxes of war. The use of irony isn t surprising as there was a stark difference between what the
soldiers were told about war and what actually happened during war and their experiences. Through
his irony in his poems, during the World War I, Owen expressed what so many people felt about the
war. As the war continued they realized that they were lied to and were misled by war propaganda, but

grows up. Unfortunately these boys are forced to become soldier even though they aren t old enough.
The first line, which starts with an imperative word, Let the boy try along this bayonet blade
delineates this. Even though it seems that they get an option to try , they don t really have one. As try
would indicate that they could check to see if it is their cup to tea, however when they are given the
bayonet blade and sent to war there is no trial. You either survive the war or you die and hence the
term try is ironic as the war is inevitably enforced upon them. The subtle tone and euphemistic
language, which portrays a suggestion, is used to show that the boy is given weapons and emphasis
the cynicism present. In like manner the opening of the second stanza, Lend him to stroke these blind,
blunt bullet leads , elucidates that the speakers continues to give commands and is ironic as no boy
that is lent to war ever comes back home. Therefore you aren t lending them and rather giving them up
to war. The alliteration present in this line, which is, blind blunt bullet , emphasis the viciousness of
the weapons through the harsh pronunciation of the letter b . This depicts the fact that it is impossible
to get away from the thirst of the weapons as the bullets just kill blindly and death is assured when
you join the war, hence mocking the use of the words Lend him as you aren t going to get him

Theme Of Surrealism In The Simpsons
The Simpsons
Hurricane Neddy
The Simpsons is an American situation comedy created by Matt Groening. The first episode of The
Simpsons aired December 17, 1989. An exciting 24 million people tune in to watch The Simpsons
each week. On April 19th, 1987 after the shorts of The Simpsons were shown on The Tracy Ullman
Shown they developed it into a half hour prime time show. The episode I will be focusing on is
Hurricane Neddy which focuses on the character Ned Flanders as his family goes through a rough
time with his house being destroyed. The Simpsons uses several methods such as surrealism,
characterisation and satire to engage the audience by adding humour and furthering the plot.
The creators of this show use many different elements such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns
on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying
about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in reference to what would
happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am
Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, why did the hurricane
destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow everything the bible says. This is
making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth,
this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will
grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in Ned Flanders flashback to when he was
young, when his parents couldn t control him, because they didn t believe in rules, they went to a
doctor and told him, we ve tried nothing and we re all out of ideas. The creators of the show are
making fun of the parents that don t discipline their kids.
In conclusion the creators of The Simpsons use many different methods such as satire, characterisation
and surrealism. Surrealism creates unrealistic elements that could not happen in real

Plebiscite In Australia
On September 10, 2017 more than 20,000 people including the Australian political leaders as well as
the Prime minister were protesting for the campaign for the same sex marriage in Sydney, Australia.
The Prime minister Malcolm Turnbull announced that the public was going to be able to vote. Either
they agree with the same sex marriage or if they re against. He gave them the chance to vote in a
Postal Plebiscite. There was a confusion on why the Australian government kept on consisting of
giving the Postal Plebiscite. A Plebiscite is simply a nationwide vote to get the public s feedback on
what they think.
Many of the voters were just simply teenagers. All teenagers were around their 16 s to 26. During the
protest there were many people

B. The purpose of this lab is to study Infrared Spectroscopy, which focuses on the study of the
electromagnetic spectrum. The area to be studied is the infrared region, which is made up of gamma,
X, and UV rays. We want to be able to identify spectra s to their complementary structures. The
background of this experiment particularly deals with the study of compound structure determination,
and traits. We must be aware of the functional groups that occur in the compounds in order to
correctly assess accurate results. Molecular vibrations affect the frequency of the stretch or bend, and
the frequency of the bond is determined by 3 types of bonds between atoms. Infrared absorptions are

This means our obvious choice for the unknown is diethyl ether because there are no double bonds
involved and no nitro compounds.
It was very easy to make an error because of the high possibility that we had overlapping frequencies,
or because two unknowns could be very similar. In order to avoid errors, it was necessary to make
sure the frequencies were read very carefully and the spectra bonds were correctly identified. If we
were to make an error in distinguishing an unknown, this would automatically cause us to have 2 or
more incorrect Unknowns being identified. The Unknowns must be assessed by the frequency chart
and bond identification.

Jonestown in Guyana Essay
Jonestown was a community built by Peoples Temple in Guyana that ended in tragedy with a death
toll of 918 people. Founded in 1956 by Jim Jones, the Peoples Temple accepted everyone into their
church and focused on helping people in need. Jones originally established the Peoples Temple in
Indianapolis, Indiana, but then moved it to Redwood Valley, California in 1966. Jones had a vision of
a communist community, one in which everyone lived together in harmony and worked for the
common good. (Rosenberg). In 1973, Jim Jones leased land in Guyana, South America for his dream
community. Peoples Temple soon after sent out people to clear the land for homes and install fences
for isolation.
Jonestown was named after their leader, the all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The water wasn t clean because of plumbing issues, and they had little food. People couldn t contact
their families without permission, and their letters were read through to make sure they weren t trying
to sabotage Jonestown. Sirens woke people in the dead of night for suicide drills where everyone had
to drink unknown liquids out of paper cups to show their loyalty. Jones had this as his backup, and
told people this would be their way out if someone invaded the compound. Jim Jones wasn t a
beautiful human being though; he had mood swings and lost his temper at simple things. Jones was
becoming more ill and taking drugs. Jones let his mistresses make his decisions at times, and it wasn t
organized like everyone thought. Wilson (a survivor) saw beatings of adults and children. They would
pair someone weaker with someone stronger and actually have boxing matches drawing blood, she
said. She said there was a green monster that would administer electric shocks to dissenters, You
would hear the screaming. (FBI). Leo Ryan was a representation of California that had an abundant
interest in Jonestown. He requested to go, and Jones warned him it would be dangerous. He got his
approval, and soon the word go out that he was going to be taking a trip to the compound. He took his
advisor, a NBC news crew, and family members of the residents at Jonestown who were concerned.
Jones welcomed them with

Cedar Sauna Research Paper
Growing up along the shores of Lake Superior meant that a traditional Finnish sauna was part your
life. In fact some homes did not have a shower or a tub in the home. Instead a Finnish sauna with its
cold water spicket or shower took their place. Most all saunas were built by the home owner using
local designs. A cedar sauna was the most common type that was constructed. However some were
also built using Eastern Hemlock. A Northern white cedar sauna was the most preferred construction.
For more than 300 years white cedar was used to line the cedar chests that people store their clothes
in. When the clothes were taken from the chest they had the great fresh cedar smell that we all
enjoyed. A cedar sauna also provides same great aroma as it was heated. Frequently the sauna stove
was fueled with white cedar kindling. A cedar fire will snap loudly and quickly give a hot fire heating
the cedar sauna in a matter of minutes even in the dead of winter. Once the cedar sauna was heated,
water was ladled on the stove rocks releasing moisture that further increased the cedar aroma. A white
cedar sauna had more benefits that just a great aroma. White cedar is softwood that is very easy to
work with but probably one of its best features is that it resists rot even in the wettest ... Show more

Floors were also frequently constructed with cedar boards that were spaced to allow the water to
naturally drain through them. A cedar floor is a lot warmer during the winter months as well. In some
locations that have poorly drained soils a drainage system must be built beneath the sauna to carry
excess water away. A good sauna must also have a good door that insulates and seals the heat inside.
Because cedar is a good insulator and is a very light weight wood it is ideal for constructing a sauna

The Problem Of Social Anxiety
Through perseverance, dedication, and patience, isolated people can immediately change transform
themselves to fearless people who have no difficulty whatsoever with communicating. This has been
proven throughout the ages and in my family as well. Whether you are the extreme loner at your
school, or a jobless person willing to sacrifice anything to receive a job, you can become intrepid
conquering your isolation issues. In my family, my mother used to be extremely shy among others
when she was in high school. She had a few friends, and, in addition to that, had some case of social
anxiety. Often ignored by others, she refused to give up. Throughout time, she improved immensely
and now has a multitudinous amount of friends. Also, she currently has no social anxiety due to her
conquering her fears of social rejection. My mother now owns a successful business as a result of this
beneficial change. You can always change no matter what. All you need to do is act efficiently and
face your fears. You can help face your fears by taking extracurricular activities such as band, choir,
academic teams, volunteering, etc. Even Albert Einstein played an instrument, the violin, while
conducting his research on the relationship between energy and mass. By having extracurricular
activities, you can easily communicate with others as extracurricular activities mostly require you to
communicate in order to help others.
Most of the time, people in extracurricular activities all target a

  • 2. Voter Turnout Sociology The dependent variable in this study is voter turnout rates, expressed as a percentage of the eligible population. Data was collected from two time periods; 1960 1970 and 1971 1980. The eligible voting population was calculated for each country from data reported by the International Labour Office in 1977 and data reported by the United Nations in 1984. In his article Political Institutions and Voter Turnout in the Industrial Democracies, Robert Jackman describes the correlation that exists between political institutions and voter turnout. He conducted a study in which he examined political institutions in 19 democracies and voter turnout rates in those nations. It was his belief that political institutions directly correlate to voter turnout. Evidence from his study suggests that the structure of a nation s political institution has ... Results indicate that age seems to have a greater impact on voting participation than any other variable, the effect of age on voter turnout is consistent across all world regions. Turnout is lowest among young people and it rises as one grows older. • 3. Death 24x A Second Stillness And The Moving Image Analysis 1. The Possessive Binge viewer In her book Death 24x a Second: Stillness and the Moving Image, Laura Mulvey (2006) illustrates the sense of balance between stillness and movement, life and death that follows film, placing the film star within a context of uncanny fusion between the human body and the machine (p. 171). By examining new media viewing practices and their effects on the spectators relationship to the cinematic body, Mulvey argues that the ability to control the flow of the film by stopping, replaying it, etc., leads to a possessive spectatorship; a domination of the filmic form and its stars, regardless of the gender, the motivation for which lies in the viewer s act of fetishizing the cinematic object (p. 166). In a similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The television serial as a filmic object is being worshiped by the binge viewer through the binge watching experience and therefore, the watching experience is being possessed and fetishized by the spectator. Today s mode of possessive spectatorship as analyzed by Mulvey can be remediated in the tradition of early cine eroticism. With this in mind, the very elements of momentum and stillness, elusiveness and possession are incorporated into the filmic body itself. Furthermore, Johnathan E. Schroeder (2002) suggests in his book Visual Consumption that the fetish relationship of object worship, delusional belief in the power of the fetish, and substitution of human relations with fetish relations are also invoked in the broader dimensions of consumer culture and its aggressive object worship (p. 157). By being enabled to binge watch not only fragments of the filmic body, but to consume it as a whole, the possessive binge viewer fetishizes the object, here the object being the binge watching experience, because it creates different spectator television show relationship. This different relationship is realized in what the possessive binge viewer sees as no longer traditional, but rather exotic and erotic. And because he or she is in possession of the whole filmic body, rather than just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Theme Of Enduring Appeal For King Lear Shakespearian plays like King Lear have enduring appeal because of their universal and timeless themes. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Support your answer with reference to the text. The universal nature of the themes explored in the works of William Shakespeare endow them with lasting appeal. They feature ideas which are as relevant today as they were in Shakespeare s time, and this is one of the many reasons why modern audiences are still drawn to plays like King Lear , where ideas of corruption, power, social inequality and society s attitude toward the elderly take centre stage. In the pursuit of power, Regan, Goneril and Edmund are corrupted and turn to violence and manipulation to sate their greed and lust. Once they have achieved their goals, they lose what little empathy they had left, allowing them to justify their treatment of both Lear and Gloucester. Regan and Goneril employ glib and oily arts to gain their dowries, yet the unflinching devotion they express for their father in the love test is nowhere to be seen when they humiliate and bully him until he is driven mad. Edmund similarly manipulates his credulous father and noble brother in order to gain his brother s inheritance for himself. The unflinching and violent desire for power shown by these characters is a timeless theme, not just in literature but throughout history, giving the play its continuing appeal. The gap between the rich and poor continues to widen. In the play, this inequality is revealed by Edgar who describes the low farms and poor pelting villages that make up the country. This image of the land is a stark contrast to how Lear saw his kingdom in the opening scene, which he describes as plentiful, rich and fair . It is only when Lear is driven out into the storm that he too can acknowledge the reality of life for the poor whose houseless heads are exposed to the elements. The theme ... • 6. Foretold Narrative Style Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a novel, that is written in a non linear writing style. Non linear writing style is the exact opposite of chronological order. The way the story is written affects our perception of the protagonists , Santiago s death. This novel is filled with superstitions, religion and fate, all of these three key components seemed to lead to Santiago s death as the novel and the story of his death developed. In order to fully understand what happened to Santiago the day that he died, Garcia Marquez used diction, symbolism, and tone. Garcia Marquez was trying to express the idea that superstition, fate, and religion are huge aspects of a person s life and you can t escape the path that has already been mapped out for you. He conveys these thoughts throughout the novel using Santiago Nasar s death as something that seemed almost inescapable as you read the novel. Garcia Marquez used the idea of the supernatural in his novel. He did this by using symbolism. When Garcia Marquez was young he had to go live with his grandparents because it was common at the time in Colombian culture to leave your children wherever one could manage because of financial situations. Therefore, this report is aim to provide a guidance and some suggestions for the clients, to enable them carry out their strategy more easily. (Beyond Opinion 246) It appears that while we are to worship the Son and the Holy Spirit, we are to primarily focus our attention upon the Father because they give glory to the Father (John 16:14 15: 17:4 5). A great verse that brings this idea into focus is Ephesians 2:18: Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us. • 17. The Pros And Cons Of Human Reasoning Human reasoning can be broken down into two parts, deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning, in this essay I will be focusing on the induction side of human reasoning and whether it is rational or not to use in science. The basic idea of induction is that you learn from past experiences and apply the information learned from that to your future decision making and knowledge. Swinburne defines an inductive argument is an argument or inference comes from one or more premises to draw a conclusion (Swinburne, 1974).An example of this is, as a child you touch a flame and learn that it burns you ,so from this induce that all flames that you will encounter again will also burn you. Induction is something we as humans use moment to moment in our everyday life. The problem of induction is something that has been Widely debated over many years. The idea that induction is unreasonable or irrational was first put forward by David Hume in the seventeenth century. He was a sceptic about the idea of induction and noticed a problem with inductive reasoning. This is that the premise cannot guarantee the conclusion. Hume wrote that everything that we learn from experience we learnt through similarities found in natural object and we induce effects similar to those found into our everyday life experiences. (Hume, 1902) when a new object endowed with similar sensible qualities, is produced, we expect similar powers and forces, and look for a like effect (Hume, 1902). Hume is not ... Hamlet Metaatheatre Essay Metatheatre is best defined as a play within a play, having the ability to either show the unlikeliness of life in art, or prove the overall theatricality of life in art. While in Europe, the most tension occurred between major empires competing for trade, land, recourses, and wealth. As try would indicate that they could check to see if it is their cup to tea, however when they are given the bayonet blade and sent to war there is no trial. You either survive the war or you die and hence the term try is ironic as the war is inevitably enforced upon them. The subtle tone and euphemistic language, which portrays a suggestion, is used to show that the boy is given weapons and emphasis the cynicism present. In like manner the opening of the second stanza, Lend him to stroke these blind, blunt bullet leads , elucidates that the speakers continues to give commands and is ironic as no boy that is lent to war ever comes back home. Therefore you aren t lending them and rather giving them up to war. The alliteration present in this line, which is, blind blunt bullet , emphasis the viciousness of the weapons through the harsh pronunciation of the letter b . This depicts the fact that it is impossible to get away from the thirst of the weapons as the bullets just kill blindly and death is assured when you join the war, hence mocking the use of the words Lend him as you aren t going to get him ... The creators of this show use many different elements such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in reference to what would happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, why did the hurricane destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow everything the bible says. This is making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth, this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in Ned Flanders flashback to when he was young, when his parents couldn t control him, because they didn t believe in rules, they went to a doctor and told him, we ve tried nothing and we re all out of ideas. The creators of the show are making fun of the parents that don t discipline their kids. In conclusion the creators of The Simpsons use many different methods such as satire, characterisation and surrealism. Surrealism creates unrealistic elements that could not happen in real ... • 43. Infrared Spectroscopy Infrared Spectroscopy Organic Chemistry Lab 301A B. The purpose of this lab is to study Infrared Spectroscopy, which focuses on the study of the electromagnetic spectrum. The area to be studied is the infrared region, which is made up of gamma, X, and UV rays. We want to be able to identify spectra s to their complementary structures. The background of this experiment particularly deals with the study of compound structure determination, and traits. We must be aware of the functional groups that occur in the compounds in order to correctly assess accurate results. Molecular vibrations affect the frequency of the stretch or bend, and the frequency of the bond is determined by 3 types of bonds between atoms. Infrared absorptions are ... It was very easy to make an error because of the high possibility that we had overlapping frequencies, or because two unknowns could be very similar. In order to avoid errors, it was necessary to make sure the frequencies were read very carefully and the spectra bonds were correctly identified. If we were to make an error in distinguishing an unknown, this would automatically cause us to have 2 or more incorrect Unknowns being identified. The Unknowns must be assessed by the frequency chart and bond identification. G. Experimental organic chemistry (Seymour, Raymond B.; Higgins, Jerry G.) William H. Sirens woke people in the dead of night for suicide drills where everyone had to drink unknown liquids out of paper cups to show their loyalty. Jones had this as his backup, and told people this would be their way out if someone invaded the compound. Jim Jones wasn t a beautiful human being though; he had mood swings and lost his temper at simple things. Jones was becoming more ill and taking drugs. Jones let his mistresses make his decisions at times, and it wasn t organized like everyone thought. Wilson (a survivor) saw beatings of adults and children. They would pair someone weaker with someone stronger and actually have boxing matches drawing blood, she said. She said there was a green monster that would administer electric shocks to dissenters, You would hear the screaming. (FBI). Leo Ryan was a representation of California that had an abundant interest in Jonestown. He requested to go, and Jones warned him it would be dangerous. He got his approval, and soon the word go out that he was going to be taking a trip to the compound. • 45. Cedar Sauna Research Paper Growing up along the shores of Lake Superior meant that a traditional Finnish sauna was part your life. In fact some homes did not have a shower or a tub in the home. Instead a Finnish sauna with its cold water spicket or shower took their place. Most all saunas were built by the home owner using local designs. A cedar sauna was the most common type that was constructed. However some were also built using Eastern Hemlock. A Northern white cedar sauna was the most preferred construction. For more than 300 years white cedar was used to line the cedar chests that people store their clothes in. When the clothes were taken from the chest they had the great fresh cedar smell that we all enjoyed. A cedar sauna also provides same great aroma as it was heated. Frequently the sauna stove was fueled with white cedar kindling. A cedar fire will snap loudly and quickly give a hot fire heating the cedar sauna in a matter of minutes even in the dead of winter. Once the cedar sauna was heated, water was ladled on the stove rocks releasing moisture that further increased the cedar aroma. A white cedar sauna had more benefits that just a great aroma. In my family, my mother used to be extremely shy among others when she was in high school. She had a few friends, and, in addition to that, had some case of social anxiety. Often ignored by others, she refused to give up. Throughout time, she improved immensely and now has a multitudinous amount of friends. Also, she currently has no social anxiety due to her conquering her fears of social rejection. My mother now owns a successful business as a result of this beneficial change. You can always change no matter what. All you need to do is act efficiently and face your fears. You can help face your fears by taking extracurricular activities such as band, choir, academic teams, volunteering, etc. Even Albert Einstein played an instrument, the violin, while conducting his research on the relationship between energy and mass. By having extracurricular activities, you can easily communicate with others as extracurricular activities mostly require you to communicate in order to help others.
