18th Street Gang Case Study
This paper will discuss organized crime and use the case of a youth gang called the 18th Street Gang,
the largest youth gang in the Western Hemisphere, to answer the question: Why do youth join gangs?
The members of the 18th Street Gang have so much power that they were able to control the entire
transportation system in El Salvador (Markham 2015). Members open fired at passengers and drivers,
torched down busses and killed people who were riding in pickup trucks as an alternative way to get
to and from work (Markham 2015).
So what factors lead up this sort of group violence and how are members recruited? This paper will
discuss three factors that contribute to youth joining gangs. Firstly, association with delinquent peers
is a great predictor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies show that there is a link between parent child bonds and if there is a strong bond between
parents and their child that child is less inclined to engage in delinquent behaviour (Young, Fitzgibbon
and Silverstone 2014). To support this argument, a study done by Young, Fitzgibbon and Silverstone
(2014) examined levels and trends of delinquency in different types of families such as extended
families, single parent families and the size of the family. Results showed that those who came from
extended families are more likely to join a youth gang versus those who came from smaller families
(Young, Fitzgibbon and Silverstone 2014). Moreover, delinquency rates of those who came from non
traditional homes is 10 15% higher than those from traditional homes (Young, Fitzgibbon and
Silverstone 2014). This shows that in larger families and in families where there is a single parent, the
child is less supervised and therefore, there is a lack of attachment and bonds between family
members. Therefore, youth under these conditions are more likely to join a youth

Susan G. Coleman Biography
In today s society, the accomplishment of women is overseen while those of males are acknowledge
and set as an example for others. However, in the case of Nancy Brinker, she did not only set an
example, she set a new standard for other women to follow. Nancy Brinker is the founder of Susan G.
Coleman. Susan G. Coleman is the biggest nonprofit organization in regards to breast cancer research.
This organization has been regarded as an outstanding organization because of the courage and
leadership of its founder Nancy Brinker. While the development of the Susan G. Coleman

The previous mindset was contributed by the high unemployment during the Depression, most people
were against women working because they saw it as women taking jobs from unemployed men
(Women). They became the majority bread winners while the man fought in the war. It is important to
note, the patriotism of those women in the 1940 s to begin working was the stepping stone for other
women to be able work. Like how the advocates of women s right to vote, the working women in the
1940 s was also pioneers in helping women reach positions of power and to be respected. Companies
saw women s needs and desires on the job as secondary to men s, so they were not taken seriously or
given much attention. In addition, employers denied women positions of power excluding them from
the decision making process of the company (Women). Women later came into power and developed
new business and organizations separate from their male counterpart. The 1940 s was a time of
women independence without the males and the mindset of those women has transgressed over

Africa By Kofi Awoonor Analysis
Modern World Literature: Africa Ghana s history is a metaphor for what occurred in the immediate
aftermath of independence in Africa, is a quote by Kofi Awoonor, Ghana s leading literary figure and
one of Africa s most acclaimed authors. Three of his poems illustrate the hardships and trials that the
Africans faced after their claim of independence from Britain. As said by Awoonor himself, ...high
hopes were crushed by the greed, corruption, and lust for power... . The author uses multiple literary
devices as a way to emphasize the adversities they faced. Kofi Awoonor symbolizes the downfall of
Ghana after independence through the use of theme, mood, and symbolism in his Three Poems. The
first literary device Awoonor uses is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next literary device is mood. Song of War holds a very intense and demanding voice to the text. It
is full of declaratives and it uses strong diction about war and their military. In the text, they refer to
those who do not want to serve as cowards and claim that they shall lose their calabashes when we
come... . Another example is, When we start, the ground shall shake... which is meant to stress their
amount of soldiers and bring fear to their opponents. The Sea Eats the Land at Home contains the
mood of pity and despair. The poem greatly highlights the devastation of the people from the loss of
their land and property. It can be detected in the poem how the mothers are mostly the one in
desolation for the fear of her kids. An example that backs up said statement is, With her two children
shivering from the cold, her hands on her breast, weeping mournfully. The mood contributes to the
distress of the Africans from not only loss of land, but loss of hope. At the Gates holds the mood of
faith and reliance. The narrator does not know where he is, but he remains dependent of God and
knows that he will be alright as long as he knows he is doing it for Him. He states in the poem, I will
drink this calabash for it is god s gift to me... . Another example is ...give me an offering that I will
give to God and he will be happy. The mood helps readers view the emotion and purpose distributed
throughout the story, and symbolism is another

Sex Crime Research Paper
Sex crimes are defined as crimes that involve illegal or coerced sexual activity. Rape, sodomy, sexual
battery and any attempts to commit these types or similar types of crimes are considered to be
offenses. Sexual crimes can be an element of other criminal activities such as stalking and domestic
violence. While sex laws greatly vary across different jurisdictions and times, laws regulating sexual
activity often have different intentions. These laws can be intended to protect participants or to forbid
a socially, morally or religiously distasteful activity. One who commits a sex crime is known as a sex
offender. While there are a wide range of sex crimes including incest, sodomy and public indecency, I

This means that if one does not wish to speak to a medical or law enforcement personnel, they are not

Sexual assault victim advocates are required to go through Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor
Training (SAACT). This training helps to teach advocates about advocacy and counseling and the
realities and impact of sexual assault, procedures to follow in common situations, techniques to
support recovery and compassion fatigue and self care. This is a two day curriculum that focuses more
on crisis situations rather than for long term counseling.
A victim also has the ability to report a sexual assault to identify the suspect to help determine patterns
of sexual crimes in the community but not to prosecute. However, when a victim decides to report to
the crime to the local law enforcement agency and to press charges, there are various steps that need to
be followed. This includes an initial law enforcement officer s interview, medical examination,
investigator s interview, prosecutor s interview and court procedures. Services such as these are

Mongolia and its Stand on The Atomic Bomb, Disarment and...
Mongolia was once the largest empire that mankind had ever known. Mongolia is located in central
Asia between Siberia on the north and China on the south. The term Mongol came from the tribe of
Genghis Khan, who instaured the biggest empire ever known to mankind. Mongolia had to choose
between China and Russia, two powers that share borders with it. The Mongolian government chooses
to adopt the communist ideology of Russia. During the 1960s, tension between Russia and china grew,
with the soviet attempting to conduct preemptive nuclear strike at Chinese nuclear plants. In 1992,
Mongolian President Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat announced that his country would seek to become a one

The author of Mongolia s Nuclear Weapon Free Status: Concept and Practice by T Enkhsaikhan,
points out that article 4 of the two treaties signed with Russia and China stressed the importance of
keeping Mongolia a zone free of nuclear weapons and military influences of its neighbors. The author
mentions how Mongolia was a fervent supporter of disarmament in the article. Mongolia is part of the
G28 Group, a coalition of nonnuclear developing states, which call nuclear weapons states to
dismantle their total arsenals within a period of time. Another important remark is how the author
mentions that Mongolia was one of the first to sign and ratify the NPT and the seventh country to
ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The main reason why Mongolia is supporting the
disarmament is mostly due to the tension that exists between China and Russia, two neighboring
countries with nuclear weapons. By freeing its soil from nuclear armament, no countries should
deploy nuclear weapons in its territories. By officially declaring Mongolia NWFZ, Mongolia has a
better chance to transform its territory on a front war if Russia and China had to go war. III.

The Creative Curriculum Program Is An Effective Learning...
The Creative Curriculum program is an effective learning style that assists preschool children ranging
from ages 3 to 5 years old. Founded by a former preschool teacher, Diane Trister Dodge, this early
childhood education program with a comprehensive curriculum is structured to be directed by the
teacher, but initiated by the children. The philosophy of the Creative Curriculum is to allow the
children to learn at their best efforts in an environment that is safe and open for exploration. Child
centers that use this curriculum allow the children to develop and learn through planned programming,
select materials, and guided learning. The goal is to enhance their physical, cognitive, language,
social, and emotional development through hands on learning activities. The sole principle of the
curriculum program is to identify the learning styles of the children, and strengthen them through
learning activities that spark their interests. This is to help the children become enthusiastic learners.
The content areas covered within the Creative Curriculum are: literacy, math, science, social studies,
the arts, and technology. Educators of the curriculum are well qualified and are trained to possess the
ability to provide positive classroom management, build analytical skills and relationship skills. The
role of the teacher is to guide the learning process. With a student to teacher ratio of 7:1,the teachers
are there to observe and evaluate the progress of the children. The

Poverty Epidemic Within American Society
It is an undeniable fact there exists a growing poverty epidemic within American society that needs to
be addressed. According to a 2012 report by the Cato Institute the United States government spends
nearly one trillion dollars every year to combat severe financial need through a total of 126 separate
welfare programs. While this value by itself seems significantly large, perhaps to an even excessive
extent, in reality it had little effect on the American poverty level, never al allowing it to drop below
10.5%. Even with these massive government expenditures aimed at elevating quality of life, for many
households an escape from their low income bracket is still vastly unattainable. Current statistics show
that more than 40% of individuals born into the bottom quintile will remain there, failing to escape
into a life of financial stability. Despite immense funding, in its existing state of organization, the
system of aid currently offered by the American government to lower income household fails to
effectively alleviate the living conditions of the impoverished due to its negligence towards payday
loans and the other intangible costs of poverty, its temporary and ineffective solutions to fight hunger,
and most significantly, its insufficient reliance on an unreliable and inconsistent enforcement from
state jurisdictions. For many low income families, the set benefits offered by the government do not
provide a feasible escape from poverty, because they fail to

The Internment Of Japanese Americans
Shortly after the first bombs were dropped on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941, the American
people s fear of the Japanese grew dramatically, especially for those Japanese living in America.
Almost every Japanese American was seen as a threat to the country. On February 19th, 1942,
Executive Order 9066 was issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, authorizing the relocation of
Japanese Americans to camps further inland. Over 175,000 Japanese Americans were affected in some
way by the order, even though more than 70,000 of them were born in the United States and were
American citizens. The common perspective of the American people was shown through their use of

Out of all ten internment camps in America, Manzanar is the most well known. The harshness of this
camp lead to constant news stories and televised programs displaying events that occurred there such
as shootings, strikes, and a constant feeling of uneasiness and unrest throughout the community. There
was no such thing as privacy in Manzanar; a luxury taken for granted in today s society was unknown
to those who had to survive in Manzanar. All men and women shared toilets as well as showers and
lived in barracks with 200 400 other people in them. Each room had about four people and was
furnished with nothing but an oil stove, light bulb, cots, blankets, and mattresses filled with straw. The
living conditions were inhumane, with no privacy shacks that were so poorly constructed they could
barely hold together. Because it was located in the desert, Manzanar was hot during the day and
freezing at night. In order to receive food, prisoners had to wait in long lines in front of the mess hall
and were constantly sick from eating spoiled food. Workers in Manzanar were paid little to nothing
per month depending on their skill set and jobs in the camp. Professional workers were paid about $19

Fredrick Douglass Argumentative Analysis
Lastly, on the subject of discrimination are the viewpoints that come from Fredrick Douglass author of
the essay Reconstruction (1866). Unfortunately, Douglass was an individual that endured the abuse of
slavery, until managing to flee (Van Camp, 2014). It was through Douglass s experiences of slavery
and beyond, that lead him down a journey to seek fairness for all, including slaves and the rights of
women (Van Camp, 2014). Although the Civil War had ended and slavery was supposed to be
eliminated, Douglass moved forward by writing the essay, Reconstruction (Van Camp, 2014). It is a
piece of literature that seemed to illuminate Douglass s views on the possibility that although the Civil
War ended and slavery was no longer acceptable, there was still reason to believe that the country ...

The government was making all decisions for the country and the people within it; without the
opportunity for the citizens voice to be heard it left all vulnerable and subject to only what the
government wanted without any consideration for what was best for the people (Nichols, 2013). It is
of the opinion that Douglass had a vision that is still warranted in today s democracy and that is,
citizens have the right to be heard and it is a country that is ran based on the premise of the American
citizens. With that being said, there is however potential complications that may arise from this
reasoning or vision. One is the possibility of self serving practices, acting upon what is best for an
individual without thinking about what is ethical. Another potential complication is the potential for
the government just find loop holes or question the integrity of the American citizens. For instance,
this could be demonstrated by investigating the accuracy of elections without justification and only for

Malcolm X born on May 19,1925 in Omaha, Nebraska and Martin Luther King born on January

movement. Malcolm X was well known for using violence when their is the need to use violence since
at the time whites were very aggressive towards blacks, as a result black sometimes need to use
violence to defend themselves. Martin Luther king was well known for not using violence at all since
he strongly believed that nonviolent protesting was the best way to fight violence. During the civil
rights era Martin Luther king wrote A Letter from a birmingham jail and Malcolm X Gave his speech

The Four Types Of Organic Molecules
An organic molecule is a molecule that must have Carbon and Hydrogen. They are important because
they act as a backbone for all living matter. Without Carbon and Hydrogen, life would not exist. A
monomer is one subunit or building block of a larger molecule. The four types of organic molecules
are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
Carbohydrates have two functions which is, provides short term energy and structure in some
organisms. They have an atomic makeup of Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen, with a 2:1 ratio of
Hydrogen to Oxygen. The monomer is a monosaccharide which contains a single sugar. A couple
examples of this would be glucose, fructose, and deoxyribose which is found in DNA. Yet, foods with
this monomer in it would be mostly fruits, candy, and soda. Carbohydrates also have a polysaccharide
which is a polymer made of many monosaccharides strung together. Some examples of these are
starch, glycogen, cellulose, and chitin. A starch is storage from glucose in plants(potatoes, pasta,
waffles, and toast). Glycogen is storage from glucose in animals. Cellous is structure in plants (cell
wall). Chitin is structure in animals (exoskeleton). Proteins have two main functions as well, but
which is, build a cell or body structure and control all cell and body functions. Examples of cell or
body structure is hair, muscle, bone, tendons, and skin. Examples of proteins controlling cell and body
functions are motion, support, metabolism, transport, defence, and

Vocal Range Essay

Lowering your vocal range will increase your flexibility.
Thinkstock/Comstock/Getty Images
Extending the low range of your singing voice will improve your tone production and ability to hit
high notes. By extending your range, the vocal cords expand and become more flexible. This makes it
possible to extend your reach both high and low. Care should be taken to avoid extending the range
too quickly. Daily practice is the key to slowly developing your voice to hit the low notes when
singing.
Piano Exercise
Sing a note that is in the lower part of your comfortable range. This note should come easily. Once
you have found it, locate the same pitch on the piano. Then sing on whole notes a major scale
descending into your low range. Go as low as possible without straining your voice. This exercise will

Tsunami And Natural Disasters
Natural disasters happen all the time around the world; some are more devastating than others.
Tsunamis tear apart cities like they are paper. There are tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, and all sorts
of other disasters but per square foot tsunamis are the most powerful. Tsunami s are known to be very
fast waves, but speeds on average can be around five hundred miles per hour or eight hundred and five
kilometers per hour. Tsunami s will not only be powerful, but they will tear and demolish anything in
their way. Tsunami s have been around for a very long time. Eight thousand years ago in Sicily, a

The total economic cost could reach up to $35 billion, from a bank estimate and making it the costliest

According to the reconstruction agency more than 2,500 people are still reported missing. After the
tsunami scientist drilled into the subduction zone after the earthquake. They then discovered that there
was a thin slippery clay layer lying at the fault. The researchers think that this is what clearly allowed
the two plates to slide in incredible distance, some 164 feet or 50 m starting the enormous earthquake
and tsunami. Less than an hour after the earthquake first of many tsunami waves hit Japan s coastline.
Heights were measured up to 128 feet and traveled inland as far as 6 miles. The tsunami flooded for an
estimated area of approximately 217 square miles in Japan. There have been many major s tsunamis,
but nothing to this caliber and to realize it has only happened six years ago. Underwater bomb testing

Climate Change And Ocean Temperature
The real life application that comes out from this experiment relates to the climate change and the
ocean temperature. Ocean holds great capacity of carbon dioxide. When the temperature in the
environment boosts due to global warming, the ability for the ocean to hold carbon dioxide directly
determines the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. Since carbon dioxide itself
allows to absorb great quantity of infrared radiation, so glaciers, ice caps and snow on the top of the
mountain will melt due to greenhouse effect. Progressively in level of water negatively affect the
human life because countries like Jordan, Israel, and Syria which are all 200 400 metres below the sea
level might encounter flooding and results in death in the society.
Solubility is the ability for solid, liquid or gaseous to dissolve in another solid, liquid or gaseous. The
solubility of a substance mainly depends on the temperature, pressure, and the pH of the solution. It is
measured based on the saturation concentration. Therefore, by adding one addition amount of solute
may cause the solution to form precipitation on the excess amount of solute. In pressure, the higher the
pressure, the higher the solubility. This is because the pressure applied would push the solute into the
solvent, so that there is more solute trap inside the solvent. Since the pressure is applied, so the solute
would not escape. However, in temperature, the solubility decreases, as temperature increases. This is

Faith and Politics Essay
Faith and Politics
Nowadays, more so than ever before, religion plays a significant role in American presidential
elections. As citizens, our job is to examine that role and decide how it will affect our vote. The
Bush/Gore campaign has been very much influenced by religion. Joseph Lieberman, Gore s running
mate and the first Orthodox Jew to run for vice president on a major party ticket, has been extremely
vocal about his faith. Both George W. Bush and Al Gore, a Methodist and Baptist, respectively, have
also referred to their religious beliefs during this presidential campaign ( Anti Defamation League

And now we think Senator Lieberman crossed it (Pellegrini). The ADL is concerned partly because of
the possibility that Lieberman s comments will rouse anti Semitism in the American public. The Pew
Research Poll found that of those bothered by the merging of religion and politics, 49 percent
supported Lieberman and 30 percent did not. The statistics were virtually the same among those who
reported they were not concerned with politicians discussing religion. These results show that, so far,
there doesn t appear to be any hostility against Lieberman. Examining the bigger picture, the poll
found that about three quarters of the American public have a positive view of Jews (Lester). This
means that while the public isn t annoyed because he s Jewish and referring to his faith; but perhaps
his references to his faith may be negatively pinned to his being Jewish changing our perception of
Jews. The Anti Defamation League is also concerned with the (not so popular) principle of separation
of church and state. We do not think that religion belongs in the political campaign and political arena,
Foxman declared to The New York Times. There s nothing wrong with somebody professing their
faith and going to church or synagogue, but this is almost hawking it (Pellegrini). In response to

Although this project included a variety of assessment methods, there were some potential limitations.
First, there were no ongoing preference assessments before conducting the reinforcement assessment

disabilities could change not over time, even within the course of one day. In addition, these
individuals also demonstrated habituations and novelty effects which may influence the validity of

Third, the reinforcement assessment results showed that the participant might have a difficulty on
understanding the task. Additional research can be done to include a thinning schedule in the
reinforcement assessment. Specifically, experimenter can conduct a rich reinforcement schedule (such

Feminism In African Feminism
According to Naomi Nkealah who considers diverse streams of African feminisms as something
which strive to create a new, liberal, productive and self reliant African woman within the
heterogeneous cultures of Africa. Feminisms in Africa, ultimately, aim at modifying culture as it
affects women in different societies. Thus taking the multifarious nature of African experience into
consideration, African Feminisms explore the possibilities of embracing the magnitude of their
collective experiences. Assorted patterns of feminisms, that deviate from the conceptual equations of
(western) feminism and construed after indigenous models emerged in African backdrop such as
Womanism, Stiwanism, Nego feminism, Motherism, Femalism and Snail sense feminism. Being
indigenous blueprints these variegated modes were attempts to demarcate African female at the centre
of entire contentions and to explore in the cultural chronicles for material to initiate further
elaboration. For Adichie the label feminist is not something derogatory but an umbrella where every
woman should find shelter in. Adichie s pronouncements are completely against the preconceived
notions on gender are not meaningful but (universally) arbitrary. In We All Shall Be Feminists she
says: But that is not what this conversation is about. Gender and class are different. Poor men still
have the privileges of being men, even if they do not have the privileges of being wealthy. I learned a

Dynagogue Observation
While I was there I was able to take a tour of the whole building. Once you walked in the front door
you where greeted by beautiful stained glass windows. To the left there is a door that lead to the
synagogue itself. Upon walking in I loved an aisle lined with rows of chairs. The aisle let to an alter
where the rabbi would stand during service. At the very center is the ark which houses one of the
synagogue s Torah s. I later then found out that they keep a traditional sheep skin torah. Also up on the
alter is a tradition menorah. I was told that the menorah was actually one of the items donated from
another synagogue that had been shut down. Going through the back door I entered the common
family center. This is the area where the hold

The Baptism Debate
Often held as a rite of passage and entrance into the Christian church, baptism is much more than just
symbolic ritual. Baptism was commanded by Jesus Christ in the Great Commission recounted in the
book of Matthew. Even though we are simplistically called to be obedient by being baptized the
Christian church has long debated the aspects of this ordinance. Denominations are divided on the
basic meaning, types and modes of baptism even two thousand years after the founding of the
Christian church. Just as the other ordinance, the Lord s Supper, congregations find themselves at odd
with tradition, biblical interpretation and even individual understanding. However, the simple message
of this awe inspiring act can be explained out of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thereafter, infant baptism became the norm. (Hammett, 2005, pg 269) Three arguments are often used
in support of infant baptism. The early church used the idea of household baptisms mentioned in the
book of Acts to support that entire families were baptized for the acceptance of faith by the parents of
the household. Other historians point to the Gospel encounter of children being brought to Jesus for
blessing and for Him to pray over the children. The last support can be found in the need of an act of
covenant being established as it once was in the Old Testament. In the time of Abraham young boys
were circumcised as a sign of the convent. In the New Testament infant baptism was used as that sign.
(Hammett, 2005 pg 269 270). Each of these were steeped further in tradition than biblical basis. The
New Testament points more specifically to believers baptism rather than infant baptism. As stated
earlier, baptism is a symbolic act of obedience representing a choice of salvation through Jesus Christ.
It is unreasonable to think that an infant would be able to make such a choice by itself. The parallel of
Abraham s covenant is also misapplied. Hammett points out, As circumcision was applied to Abraham
s physical seed under the old covenant, so baptism is to be applied to Abraham s spiritual seed under
the new covenant. But the spiritual seed of Abraham are thus of faith, which means that believers
should be baptized, which, they would

The Role Of Title Ix Essay
Sports have been a large part of society throughout history. They have brought out happiness, joy, hard
work, determination, and teamwork in the individuals that have participated in them. However, there
have been negatives involved with sports throughout history also, including gender roles, which are
defined as the public image of being a particular gender that a person presents to others. These roles
have been created by society and passed down from generation to generation, informing one another
of false beliefs that say that one gender, usually males, are better than females. In sports, these often
say that women have significantly lower performance levels, show less drive and that women see
competition as unnecessary. In reviewing the initial beliefs and problems before Title IX, the role of
Title IX, the problems still existing today, and the modern movement, it is seen that progress has been
made, but also that there is also more to do. Gender roles are developed in the overall spectrum
throughout society. This is often developed by children and guided by society by through approval and
disapproval of certain actions. This includes actions such as society telling boys that playing with
dolls is girly (CH. 10.). Society develops these roles, and people that break them are often seen as
different and outsiders. These also develop in the society of sport, where values have been
traditionally associated with males. As men often did studies with sports, there was

Collegiate Seminar Essay
At Saint Mary s College, the Collegiate Seminar program is a uniquely designed program for students
to serve the College s goals for a liberal education [as it] strives to put students in possession of their
powers to think clearly, critically, and collaboratively, and articulate their ideas effectively powers that
will serve them for the rest of their lives. (SMC Seminar 104 Course Reader) As a requirement for
graduation, all students regardless of what discipline they are in must complete four courses of
seminar. A quite interesting kind of class as it integrates students from different kinds of discipline,
thus, attracting different kinds of perspectives, creating stimulating conversations about varying
topics. Unlike traditional teacher centered teaching, the Seminar program invites students to
interrogate texts and examine questions that are raised by both the text and the students through
stimulating discussions. Additionally, these discussions are meant to create an environment in which
the student and the seminar leader engage together in the pursuit of understanding. (stmarys

Psychoanalytic Perspective Deals With Personality And...
Psychoanalytic perspective deals with personality and behavior that are caused by unconscious
motives and conflicts. Sigmund Freud has introduced this, and showed that he researched neurological
disorders dealing with psychological causes. Freud, in his research, discussed different regions of the
human s mind, one of which is the unconscious region contains thoughts, wishes, feelings, and
memories of which are unaware; some are stored in temporarily in a preconscious area from which we
can retrieve them into conscious awareness. He came to a conclusion that we are being influenced by
these troublesome feelings even though we are not consciously aware of them. ID is the part of the
mind that tries to satisfy basic drives that operate on the pleasure principle. The ego is the largely
conscious executive part of the mind that mediates among the id, superego, and reality guiding
behavior to try to satisfy desires in realistic ways. The superego is the part of the mind that represents
ideals, morals, and the conscience. The concept of personality development is based on the concept of
perfection of oneself and ones reaction in order to acquire a well developed personality. What I have
learned from taking this class is that personality has different approaches and the main approaches that
I have learned are the trait approach, psychoanalytic, behavioral, and humanistic approaches. I have
learned from this class that our personality can change over time and our personality is

Reflection On Volunteering At Ruth Fyfe Elementary School
For my community service project I will be volunteering at Ruth Fyfe Elementary School. After
contacting the school s administration I was assigned to 3 different classes. My first challenge was to
work with 3rd graders, in my first assigned class, and help them with their multiplication. I also had to
help two other different 4th grade classes. I had to be extremely outgoing for students to listen. I was a
personal tutor for mere minutes because there were many students to give my attention to. Ruth Fyfe
is an elementary on W Bonanza Rd, pretty much on the other side of town. In my assigned 3rd grade
class I didn t exactly participate with every student equally. I felt a bit biased towards some of the
students because some students cared more than others. I loved how some students were mentally
engaged. I talked to all of the kids, however, I mainly helped those who actually showed effort even if
they were incorrect. The 4th grade class was slightly more advanced but not too much of a difference
in regards to maturity. I was assigned two 4th grade classes for a total of 4 hours (2 hours each). The
4th graders were more literate, however they still struggled. I tried my best to help them with their
reading, but I can only help to an extent because I have a problem with reading fast as well. In

Research has backed up the fact that parental involvement in schools immensely increases student
performance. When I went to volunteer, I was a role model. The teachers had used me as an example
of a successful student who made his way into college. These children are young and it s good for
them to be exposed to successful people. Successful meaning the person has made it to college. In the
4th grade class, college was a huge focal point (well while I was there anyways). Students can use me
as a template for success. Overall, schools would see an increase in student productivity and

Children Of Dune Analysis
Children of Dune
Is it wise to save somebody, but harm them in the process. Frank Herbert s Children of Dune explores
this idea. Leto, the boy who will soon be emperor, has a vision of the future in which he believes that
he can save humanity from destruction, but would harm them in the process. He intends to lead
humanity along a Golden Path , but will have readers questioning if he will do more harm than good.
Despite the fact that Leto s intentions are good, he is actually evil.
Leto begins his path to ruling the universe by destroying the changing ecology of Arrakis, the main
planet in the empire. The ecology is being changed so that the planet will be more livable, because it is
brutal desert planet. Tomorrow I ll raid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To do this he believes that he must become a tyrant. And I beheld another beast coming up out of the
sand; and he had two horns like a lamb, but his mouth was fanged and fiery as the dragon and his
body shimmered and burned with great heat while it did hiss like the serpent revised Bible (Herbert).
This passage from the revised Bible of Dune is a foreshadowing to Leto rising up as the emperor,
because is is an almost exact description of a sandworm. The natives of the planet worship the
sandworms as a physical representation of God, and Leto makes himself partially sandworm in the
book. Leto does another act of evil by proclaiming himself to be a god. Leto knows that he will be a
brutal ruler, and that it will be hard for humanity to survive. Leto told his father, Paul Your jihad will
be a summer picnic on Caladan by comparison (Herbert). Pauls jihad was a successful attempt to
make his rule absolute, but it caused the death of 61 billion people. Leto understands what his rule will
do, but he will continue anyways. Leto knows he will be a tyrant, and shows that he is evil by
continuing anyways.
Despite being the protagonist of the novel, Leto is really a villain. He believes that by being a tyrant,
he can benefit all of humanity. To him, the billions of deaths, the disruption of a planet s
transformation, and him wanting to be a god show that he is inherently evil. He believes that he can
save humanity by oppressing and harming them. Leto is the true villain of Children of

Nigeria is as often as possible implied as the Mammoth of Africa , inferable from its inconceivable
people and economy. With around 184 million occupants, Nigeria is the most jammed country in
Africa and the seventh most swarmed country on the planet. Nigeria has one of the greatest masses of

  • 2. 18th Street Gang Case Study This paper will discuss organized crime and use the case of a youth gang called the 18th Street Gang, the largest youth gang in the Western Hemisphere, to answer the question: Why do youth join gangs? The members of the 18th Street Gang have so much power that they were able to control the entire transportation system in El Salvador (Markham 2015). Members open fired at passengers and drivers, torched down busses and killed people who were riding in pickup trucks as an alternative way to get to and from work (Markham 2015). So what factors lead up this sort of group violence and how are members recruited? This paper will discuss three factors that contribute to youth joining gangs. Firstly, association with delinquent peers is a great predictor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies show that there is a link between parent child bonds and if there is a strong bond between parents and their child that child is less inclined to engage in delinquent behaviour (Young, Fitzgibbon and Silverstone 2014). To support this argument, a study done by Young, Fitzgibbon and Silverstone (2014) examined levels and trends of delinquency in different types of families such as extended families, single parent families and the size of the family. Results showed that those who came from extended families are more likely to join a youth gang versus those who came from smaller families (Young, Fitzgibbon and Silverstone 2014). Moreover, delinquency rates of those who came from non traditional homes is 10 15% higher than those from traditional homes (Young, Fitzgibbon and Silverstone 2014). This shows that in larger families and in families where there is a single parent, the child is less supervised and therefore, there is a lack of attachment and bonds between family members. Therefore, youth under these conditions are more likely to join a youth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The previous mindset was contributed by the high unemployment during the Depression, most people were against women working because they saw it as women taking jobs from unemployed men (Women). They became the majority bread winners while the man fought in the war. Like how the advocates of women s right to vote, the working women in the 1940 s was also pioneers in helping women reach positions of power and to be respected. Companies saw women s needs and desires on the job as secondary to men s, so they were not taken seriously or given much attention. • 4. Africa By Kofi Awoonor Analysis Modern World Literature: Africa Ghana s history is a metaphor for what occurred in the immediate aftermath of independence in Africa, is a quote by Kofi Awoonor, Ghana s leading literary figure and one of Africa s most acclaimed authors. Three of his poems illustrate the hardships and trials that the Africans faced after their claim of independence from Britain. As said by Awoonor himself, ...high hopes were crushed by the greed, corruption, and lust for power... . The author uses multiple literary devices as a way to emphasize the adversities they faced. Kofi Awoonor symbolizes the downfall of Ghana after independence through the use of theme, mood, and symbolism in his Three Poems. The first literary device Awoonor uses is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next literary device is mood. Song of War holds a very intense and demanding voice to the text. It is full of declaratives and it uses strong diction about war and their military. In the text, they refer to those who do not want to serve as cowards and claim that they shall lose their calabashes when we come... . Another example is, When we start, the ground shall shake... which is meant to stress their amount of soldiers and bring fear to their opponents. The Sea Eats the Land at Home contains the mood of pity and despair. The poem greatly highlights the devastation of the people from the loss of their land and property. It can be detected in the poem how the mothers are mostly the one in desolation for the fear of her kids. An example that backs up said statement is, With her two children shivering from the cold, her hands on her breast, weeping mournfully. The mood contributes to the distress of the Africans from not only loss of land, but loss of hope. At the Gates holds the mood of faith and reliance. The narrator does not know where he is, but he remains dependent of God and knows that he will be alright as long as he knows he is doing it for Him. He states in the poem, I will drink this calabash for it is god s gift to me... . Another example is ...give me an offering that I will give to God and he will be happy. Rape, sodomy, sexual battery and any attempts to commit these types or similar types of crimes are considered to be offenses. Sexual crimes can be an element of other criminal activities such as stalking and domestic violence. While sex laws greatly vary across different jurisdictions and times, laws regulating sexual activity often have different intentions. These laws can be intended to protect participants or to forbid a socially, morally or religiously distasteful activity. One who commits a sex crime is known as a sex offender. However, the victim can also confidentially talk to a sexual assault victim advocate. Sexual assault victim advocates are required to go through Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor Training (SAACT). This training helps to teach advocates about advocacy and counseling and the realities and impact of sexual assault, procedures to follow in common situations, techniques to support recovery and compassion fatigue and self care. This is a two day curriculum that focuses more on crisis situations rather than for long term counseling. A victim also has the ability to report a sexual assault to identify the suspect to help determine patterns of sexual crimes in the community but not to prosecute. However, when a victim decides to report to the crime to the local law enforcement agency and to press charges, there are various steps that need to be followed. • 6. Mongolia and its Stand on The Atomic Bomb, Disarment and... Mongolia was once the largest empire that mankind had ever known. Mongolia is located in central Asia between Siberia on the north and China on the south. The term Mongol came from the tribe of Genghis Khan, who instaured the biggest empire ever known to mankind. Mongolia had to choose between China and Russia, two powers that share borders with it. The Mongolian government chooses to adopt the communist ideology of Russia. During the 1960s, tension between Russia and china grew, with the soviet attempting to conduct preemptive nuclear strike at Chinese nuclear plants. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author of Mongolia s Nuclear Weapon Free Status: Concept and Practice by T Enkhsaikhan, points out that article 4 of the two treaties signed with Russia and China stressed the importance of keeping Mongolia a zone free of nuclear weapons and military influences of its neighbors. The author mentions how Mongolia was a fervent supporter of disarmament in the article. Mongolia is part of the G28 Group, a coalition of nonnuclear developing states, which call nuclear weapons states to dismantle their total arsenals within a period of time. Another important remark is how the author mentions that Mongolia was one of the first to sign and ratify the NPT and the seventh country to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The main reason why Mongolia is supporting the disarmament is mostly due to the tension that exists between China and Russia, two neighboring countries with nuclear weapons. By freeing its soil from nuclear armament, no countries should deploy nuclear weapons in its territories. By officially declaring Mongolia NWFZ, Mongolia has a better chance to transform its territory on a front war if Russia and China had to go war. III. Prevention of an Arms Race in Outer Space The Non Aligned Movement is concerned with the militarization of the space. • 7. The Creative Curriculum Program Is An Effective Learning... The Creative Curriculum program is an effective learning style that assists preschool children ranging from ages 3 to 5 years old. Founded by a former preschool teacher, Diane Trister Dodge, this early childhood education program with a comprehensive curriculum is structured to be directed by the teacher, but initiated by the children. The philosophy of the Creative Curriculum is to allow the children to learn at their best efforts in an environment that is safe and open for exploration. Child centers that use this curriculum allow the children to develop and learn through planned programming, select materials, and guided learning. The goal is to enhance their physical, cognitive, language, social, and emotional development through hands on learning activities. The sole principle of the curriculum program is to identify the learning styles of the children, and strengthen them through learning activities that spark their interests. This is to help the children become enthusiastic learners. The content areas covered within the Creative Curriculum are: literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. Educators of the curriculum are well qualified and are trained to possess the ability to provide positive classroom management, build analytical skills and relationship skills. The role of the teacher is to guide the learning process. With a student to teacher ratio of 7:1,the teachers are there to observe and evaluate the progress of the children. The ... • 8. Poverty Epidemic Within American Society It is an undeniable fact there exists a growing poverty epidemic within American society that needs to be addressed. According to a 2012 report by the Cato Institute the United States government spends nearly one trillion dollars every year to combat severe financial need through a total of 126 separate welfare programs. While this value by itself seems significantly large, perhaps to an even excessive extent, in reality it had little effect on the American poverty level, never al allowing it to drop below 10.5%. Even with these massive government expenditures aimed at elevating quality of life, for many households an escape from their low income bracket is still vastly unattainable. Current statistics show that more than 40% of individuals born into the bottom quintile will remain there, failing to escape into a life of financial stability. Despite immense funding, in its existing state of organization, the system of aid currently offered by the American government to lower income household fails to effectively alleviate the living conditions of the impoverished due to its negligence towards payday loans and the other intangible costs of poverty, its temporary and ineffective solutions to fight hunger, and most significantly, its insufficient reliance on an unreliable and inconsistent enforcement from state jurisdictions. For many low income families, the set benefits offered by the government do not provide a feasible escape from poverty, because they fail to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All men and women shared toilets as well as showers and lived in barracks with 200 400 other people in them. Each room had about four people and was furnished with nothing but an oil stove, light bulb, cots, blankets, and mattresses filled with straw. The living conditions were inhumane, with no privacy shacks that were so poorly constructed they could barely hold together. Because it was located in the desert, Manzanar was hot during the day and freezing at night. In order to receive food, prisoners had to wait in long lines in front of the mess hall and were constantly sick from eating spoiled food. Unfortunately, Douglass was an individual that endured the abuse of slavery, until managing to flee (Van Camp, 2014). It was through Douglass s experiences of slavery and beyond, that lead him down a journey to seek fairness for all, including slaves and the rights of women (Van Camp, 2014). Although the Civil War had ended and slavery was supposed to be eliminated, Douglass moved forward by writing the essay, Reconstruction (Van Camp, 2014). The government was making all decisions for the country and the people within it; without the opportunity for the citizens voice to be heard it left all vulnerable and subject to only what the government wanted without any consideration for what was best for the people (Nichols, 2013). It is of the opinion that Douglass had a vision that is still warranted in today s democracy and that is, citizens have the right to be heard and it is a country that is ran based on the premise of the American citizens. With that being said, there is however potential complications that may arise from this reasoning or vision. One is the possibility of self serving practices, acting upon what is best for an individual without thinking about what is ethical. Another potential complication is the potential for the government just find loop holes or question the integrity of the American citizens. • 12. The Four Types Of Organic Molecules An organic molecule is a molecule that must have Carbon and Hydrogen. They are important because they act as a backbone for all living matter. Without Carbon and Hydrogen, life would not exist. A monomer is one subunit or building block of a larger molecule. The four types of organic molecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Carbohydrates have two functions which is, provides short term energy and structure in some organisms. They have an atomic makeup of Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen, with a 2:1 ratio of Hydrogen to Oxygen. The monomer is a monosaccharide which contains a single sugar. A couple examples of this would be glucose, fructose, and deoxyribose which is found in DNA. Yet, foods with this monomer in it would be mostly fruits, candy, and soda. Carbohydrates also have a polysaccharide which is a polymer made of many monosaccharides strung together. Some examples of these are starch, glycogen, cellulose, and chitin. A starch is storage from glucose in plants(potatoes, pasta, waffles, and toast). Glycogen is storage from glucose in animals. Cellous is structure in plants (cell wall). Chitin is structure in animals (exoskeleton). Proteins have two main functions as well, but which is, build a cell or body structure and control all cell and body functions. • 18. Climate Change And Ocean Temperature The real life application that comes out from this experiment relates to the climate change and the ocean temperature. Ocean holds great capacity of carbon dioxide. When the temperature in the environment boosts due to global warming, the ability for the ocean to hold carbon dioxide directly determines the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. Since carbon dioxide itself allows to absorb great quantity of infrared radiation, so glaciers, ice caps and snow on the top of the mountain will melt due to greenhouse effect. Progressively in level of water negatively affect the human life because countries like Jordan, Israel, and Syria which are all 200 400 metres below the sea level might encounter flooding and results in death in the society. Solubility is the ability for solid, liquid or gaseous to dissolve in another solid, liquid or gaseous. The solubility of a substance mainly depends on the temperature, pressure, and the pH of the solution. It is measured based on the saturation concentration. Therefore, by adding one addition amount of solute may cause the solution to form precipitation on the excess amount of solute. In pressure, the higher the pressure, the higher the solubility. This is because the pressure applied would push the solute into the solvent, so that there is more solute trap inside the solvent. Since the pressure is applied, so the solute would not escape. However, in temperature, the solubility decreases, as temperature increases. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As citizens, our job is to examine that role and decide how it will affect our vote. The Bush/Gore campaign has been very much influenced by religion. Joseph Lieberman, Gore s running mate and the first Orthodox Jew to run for vice president on a major party ticket, has been extremely vocal about his faith. Both George W. The ADL is concerned partly because of the possibility that Lieberman s comments will rouse anti Semitism in the American public. The Pew Research Poll found that of those bothered by the merging of religion and politics, 49 percent supported Lieberman and 30 percent did not. The statistics were virtually the same among those who reported they were not concerned with politicians discussing religion. These results show that, so far, there doesn t appear to be any hostility against Lieberman. Examining the bigger picture, the poll found that about three quarters of the American public have a positive view of Jews (Lester). This means that while the public isn t annoyed because he s Jewish and referring to his faith; but perhaps his references to his faith may be negatively pinned to his being Jewish changing our perception of Jews. The Anti Defamation League is also concerned with the (not so popular) principle of separation of church and state. In addition, these individuals also demonstrated habituations and novelty effects which may influence the validity of further reinforcing testing or assessments (Logan et al., 2001). • 23. Feminism In African Feminism According to Naomi Nkealah who considers diverse streams of African feminisms as something which strive to create a new, liberal, productive and self reliant African woman within the heterogeneous cultures of Africa. Feminisms in Africa, ultimately, aim at modifying culture as it affects women in different societies. Thus taking the multifarious nature of African experience into consideration, African Feminisms explore the possibilities of embracing the magnitude of their collective experiences. Baptism was commanded by Jesus Christ in the Great Commission recounted in the book of Matthew. Even though we are simplistically called to be obedient by being baptized the Christian church has long debated the aspects of this ordinance. Denominations are divided on the basic meaning, types and modes of baptism even two thousand years after the founding of the Christian church. (Hammett, 2005, pg 269) Three arguments are often used in support of infant baptism. The early church used the idea of household baptisms mentioned in the book of Acts to support that entire families were baptized for the acceptance of faith by the parents of the household. Other historians point to the Gospel encounter of children being brought to Jesus for blessing and for Him to pray over the children. The last support can be found in the need of an act of covenant being established as it once was in the Old Testament. In the time of Abraham young boys were circumcised as a sign of the convent. In the New Testament infant baptism was used as that sign. (Hammett, 2005 pg 269 270). Each of these were steeped further in tradition than biblical basis. The New Testament points more specifically to believers baptism rather than infant baptism. As stated earlier, baptism is a symbolic act of obedience representing a choice of salvation through Jesus Christ. It is unreasonable to think that an infant would be able to make such a choice by itself. The parallel of Abraham s covenant is also misapplied. Hammett points out, As circumcision was applied to Abraham s physical seed under the old covenant, so baptism is to be applied to Abraham s spiritual seed under the new covenant. They have brought out happiness, joy, hard work, determination, and teamwork in the individuals that have participated in them. However, there have been negatives involved with sports throughout history also, including gender roles, which are defined as the public image of being a particular gender that a person presents to others. These roles have been created by society and passed down from generation to generation, informing one another of false beliefs that say that one gender, usually males, are better than females. In sports, these often say that women have significantly lower performance levels, show less drive and that women see competition as unnecessary. In reviewing the initial beliefs and problems before Title IX, the role of Title IX, the problems still existing today, and the modern movement, it is seen that progress has been made, but also that there is also more to do. Gender roles are developed in the overall spectrum throughout society. This is often developed by children and guided by society by through approval and disapproval of certain actions. This includes actions such as society telling boys that playing with dolls is girly (CH. 10.). Society develops these roles, and people that break them are often seen as different and outsiders. Sigmund Freud has introduced this, and showed that he researched neurological disorders dealing with psychological causes. Freud, in his research, discussed different regions of the human s mind, one of which is the unconscious region contains thoughts, wishes, feelings, and memories of which are unaware; some are stored in temporarily in a preconscious area from which we can retrieve them into conscious awareness. He came to a conclusion that we are being influenced by these troublesome feelings even though we are not consciously aware of them. ID is the part of the mind that tries to satisfy basic drives that operate on the pleasure principle. The ego is the largely conscious executive part of the mind that mediates among the id, superego, and reality guiding behavior to try to satisfy desires in realistic ways.
