ASBESTOS
ASBESTOS:
It is a silicate mineral with the
composition of silicate of calcium and
magnesium .
The main characteristics of Asbestos are as under:
1. It is commonly of white or whitish grey colour.
2. It has the typical fibrous form (in the form of
3. fibres).
4. Its fibres show a silky shine or luster.
5. The fibres are flexible and can be interwoven.
6. It is highly resistant to heat and is fire proof.
7. It is an excellent heat, sound and electric
insulator.
8. It has high resistance to corrosion.
9. It has a high melting point (12000
C to 15000
C).
It is widely used in several forms for
heat, sound and electrical insulation
works such as sheets, boards, pipes
and loose filling material, etc because
of above mentioned notable
characteristics.
It is also used for the making of
Asbestos Cements, fire proof ropes and
cloth.
Asbestos Products:
Following are the main products of Asbestos:
1. Asbestos Cement Sheets (A.C.Sheets),
2. Asbestos-Cement Pipes,
3. Asbestos Paints,
4. Asbestos Paper, etc.
Gypsum:
• Gypsum is the mineral with the composition of
hydrated calcium Chloride (CaSO4.2H2O). It is a soft
mineral with low density and good binding power. It
dehydrates on heating. Further on coming in
contact with water, it combines with it again. It is
extensively used as filler in paint, paper and rubber
industry. It is used as retarder in cement
manufacturing. It is also used for the manufacturing
of Plaster of Paris (Gypsum Plaster).
• Gypsum Plaster is used for decorative plaster of all
kinds.

  • #9 Unlike the satellites orbiting the earth and taking pictures of the surface, these GPS satellites provide location information to a GPS receiver anywhere on the globe. GPS systems are now available as an option in many cars - Cadillacs, BMWs and Mercedes - ONStar Navigation system, etc.
